- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermind, set coach, creative strategist, and also
- 0:09happen to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. I'm recording this right before
- 0:30I'm about to jump rope. And the reason that we're doing
- 0:33that today is because I had, I was coaching yesterday and I had
- 0:37an encounter with a client and we were talking about how she
- 0:42has this thing that she's heard before about, you know, you have
- 0:45to improve every single day, make an improvement every single
- 0:48day. You've got to do these things
- 0:50every single day. And she was so stressed out
- 0:52about this improve 1% every single day.
- 0:57And I asked her, I said, did you know?
- 0:59Did you listen to the podcast? I know you listened.
- 1:01Did you hear me talk about jumping ropes?
- 1:04She said yes. I said, well, I want you to know
- 1:06something. I have not improved from the
- 1:09time I started and I've been doing it every day.
- 1:12And am I doing it every day? Yes.
- 1:14Have I seen improvement 1% every single day?
- 1:17Hell no. I'm still like, I can do it, but
- 1:21I am not at the point where I could tell you I'm improving.
- 1:24I'm at I'm at like point over just stagnating, but I'm not
- 1:27giving up. And so we got into this very
- 1:30deep conversation about this improvement of 1% every single
- 1:34day. And I understand the theory of
- 1:36it because it's supposed to say, hey, it doesn't have to be a
- 1:38lot, you don't have to be 100%. But this is so important to
- 1:43hear. So I decided to tell you all
- 1:46today about this because the theory is great.
- 1:49OK, The theory is great. There's no discounting theory.
- 1:52If you improve just a little bit every single day, you're going
- 1:55to get to where you want to go. But what happens when you're not
- 1:57improving? What do you do when you're not
- 1:58improving? Do you give up?
- 1:59Do you walk away? Do you beat yourself up?
- 2:01Do you say, you know, oh, this sucks because that's the voices
- 2:06that are going on on the bus in your head.
- 2:07Everybody's having a conversation and they're all
- 2:10judgment is right up front. And saying that's clearly wasn't
- 2:131%. That's probably not even a point
- 2:15of a percent. And we all have that.
- 2:18We all have that crap going on in our head.
- 2:22So what do you do? Do you ignore it?
- 2:25Do you work through it? Do you work with it?
- 2:28I mean, how do you approach it? So my theory on this is you're
- 2:34going to expect, I expect not to be great.
- 2:37When I took this on, I said I expect that I am not going to be
- 2:41great at this close to right away.
- 2:44I'm if this is going to take time because I have not been
- 2:47doing this my whole life. I couldn't do it as a kid.
- 2:50Why do I now think as a grown woman it's going to become easy?
- 2:53It's not. So I expected that to be the
- 2:57case. I took it on.
- 2:58I didn't expect that I would give up.
- 3:00I won't because I made a decision way ahead of time that
- 3:04this was important to me and that I was not going to give up.
- 3:07And that's really the key. I don't need the percentage of
- 3:10growth to make me see that I want to keep going because I
- 3:15made the decision to keep going and I know I will hit a tipping
- 3:19point because that's what happens.
- 3:21You hit a tipping point and all of a sudden it clicks and we've
- 3:25all heard it. It's like, oh, I couldn't do it.
- 3:27I couldn't do it, I couldn't do it and then BAM, I could do it.
- 3:29We, we usually feel that way about certain things like when
- 3:32we're growing up, like math, OK, you can't get it.
- 3:35All of a sudden you don't get multiplication, you don't get
- 3:37division, you don't get algebra. And then all of a sudden it like
- 3:41all one day you just walk in and you sit down and it all of a
- 3:44sudden seems to fall into place. That's that tipping point.
- 3:49So I really subscribe more to the tipping point theory than
- 3:53something else. But you have to have that
- 3:55emotional wherewithal to say, Hey, you know what, I'm going to
- 3:59go to this next place and it's not going to be great in the
- 4:02beginning. I expect it.
- 4:03And when I expect it, then it's, you know, it's not that you're
- 4:07attracting it because she asked me that.
- 4:09She's like, well then aren't I attracting it if I expect it?
- 4:12And I'm like, no, because you're going into it saying I expect
- 4:14myself to be going in there with enthusiasm, even though it may
- 4:20not go as exactly as I planned, I'm still going to stay
- 4:24enthusiastic because I know that's part of the curve.
- 4:27That's part of the learning curve.
- 4:28You are going to fail. I don't.
- 4:30I'm not attracting it to myself because I know I'm going to hit
- 4:32the tipping point and it's all going to click.
- 4:34So what I'm expecting is, yeah, there's going to be bumps in the
- 4:39road because there are. That's just the truth.
- 4:42That's how you learn. And you're not attracting it.
- 4:45If you stay every single day for the rest of your head and just
- 4:49keep going, oh, this sucks, this sucks, this sucks, this sucks.
- 4:52Then you can start moving into the attraction zone, but not
- 4:54when you're having it like this. This comes from a different
- 4:57place because there's excitement, there's force behind
- 5:02that feeling, and that's how you approach it.
- 5:05So I'm going to jump rope and I know today I will most likely
- 5:11finish the the whole 15 minute segment and I will have blips
- 5:16throughout it where it's hitting me.
- 5:17I'm tripping because that's the reality.
- 5:20My feet are still not coordinated with my hands and my
- 5:23brain with it. But guess what?
- 5:25I'm doing it and is it kicking my ass?
- 5:28Oh, it's kicking my ass. But guess what?
- 5:30I laugh about it and I'm like, OK, part of the process.
- 5:33I'm not going to be as great as him yet, but guess what?
- 5:37I'm working through it. And that's the thing.
- 5:40So put aside the 1% if you're following that and just say I
- 5:45embrace the, the, the messiness of getting there because it's
- 5:49part of the process and it's so good to be messy sometimes.
- 5:54All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 5:56see you tomorrow. Bye.
