- 0:03Speaker 1: It's the Happy Families podcast.

- 0:09Speaker 2: wants answers.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Now it's the school Holidays Doctor Justin Coilson here with Kylie,
- 0:14Speaker 1: my wife, mum to our six kids and podcast podcast
- 0:18Speaker 1: host co host Extraordinary. I'll get it out eventually. Hey, honey,
- 0:23Speaker 1: I had an insights as I was thinking about what
- 0:25Speaker 1: we could put it into our podcast feed for today. I'll,
- 0:27Speaker 1: by the way, for those of you who are new
- 0:28Speaker 1: to the podcast, normally we talk for somewhere around ten
- 0:31Speaker 1: or fifteen minutes about making families happier during the school holidays.
- 0:35Speaker 1: We're spending time with our family, trying to get some
- 0:37Speaker 1: quality time in and so we're keeping this short and
- 0:39Speaker 1: sweet and hoping that it helps to make your family
- 0:41Speaker 1: thrive and be happier during the holidays as well. And
- 0:44Speaker 1: I had this idea. I think that it's useful to
- 0:48Speaker 1: remind everybody to just lighten up in the parenting game
- 0:51Speaker 1: every now and again. Do you know what I mean, Like,
- 0:53Speaker 1: just be totally chill. If the kids say, hey, can
- 0:55Speaker 1: I do this, be like sure, Just just say yes. More,
- 0:59Speaker 1: be more relaxed about things, don't worry about it. Like
- 1:01Speaker 1: the other day, one of the kids asked for a
- 1:02Speaker 1: limp ball. I've got a stash of limp balls. I
- 1:05Speaker 1: have them for work purposes.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Oh, I don't think this particular box has been used
- 1:10Speaker 2: for work at all.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Don't tell the tax man. I might have claimed that
- 1:14Speaker 1: box of lint chocolates as a grocery item for work
- 1:17Speaker 1: for my presentations, but it didn't quite make it to
- 1:19Speaker 1: the presentation. That was only one box. I swear it
- 1:24Speaker 1: was only the one box of lint chocolates. But we
- 1:26Speaker 1: had some limp balls and one of the kids said, Hey,
- 1:29Speaker 1: can I have a chocolate please, Dad, and so badly
- 1:32Speaker 1: I want to say no, they're mine, and then I thought,
- 1:35Speaker 1: oh gosh, just lighten up, so I said, sure, go
- 1:37Speaker 1: for your life. Have two? Oh did you now? And
- 1:40Speaker 1: Annie she had breakfast? Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was like
- 1:43Speaker 1: mid morning. But Annie looked at me and she was
- 1:45Speaker 1: like really, I'm like, yeah, go for your life. And
- 1:47Speaker 1: she was just like it made her day just to
- 1:51Speaker 1: lighten up and say sure thing, kiddo, enjoy.
- 1:55Speaker 2: A couple of months ago, we watched a movie called Yesterday,
- 1:58Speaker 2: Yes Day, and the kids just loved it. The kids
- 2:02Speaker 2: in the movie made up a rule that had to
- 2:07Speaker 2: say yes to whatever they did. And what was really
- 2:10Speaker 2: cool about the movie, it was actually a very fun movie,
- 2:14Speaker 2: was that the kids weren't you know, they weren't going
- 2:17Speaker 2: We're going on this massive expensive holiday, or you know,
- 2:20Speaker 2: we've got to spend all of this money. It all
- 2:22Speaker 2: came down to just spending time with mom and dad
- 2:24Speaker 2: and having a ball, and they did some pretty crazy things.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Obviously it's Hollywood, but it was just it was so
- 2:29Speaker 2: much fun watching the kids kind of just be able
- 2:32Speaker 2: to do things that they wouldn't normally do, and the
- 2:35Speaker 2: parents loved it.
- 2:36Speaker 1: They actually loved it. I kind of feel like this
- 2:38Speaker 1: is a great message for the school holidays. So our
- 2:40Speaker 1: challenge for you today is watch Yesterday. It was lots
- 2:44Speaker 1: of fun. Okay, what's the movie? Yes, but maybe practice
- 2:47Speaker 1: saying yes, lighten up, be a little bit more chill
- 2:50Speaker 1: with the kids and see what happens.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I think we're having dessert for dinner tonight.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Dessert for dinner? Can we have dinner for dessert? I
- 2:58Speaker 1: feel like I need something sustaining. We'll talk about that. Yes, yes, okay, yes,
- 3:04Speaker 1: that's fine, and then I'll go and have some dinner
- 3:07Speaker 1: as well. The Happy Families podcast is produced by Justin
