- 0:00Speaker 1: I feel like this podcast is going to be rough
- 0:02Speaker 1: on me. It's one more thing. I'm strong and getty
- 0:05Speaker 1: one more thing at least two making fun of me
- 0:13Speaker 1: moments in the podcast today. But before we get to that,
- 0:17Speaker 1: saw this story. So, Voyager one, do you remember the
- 0:20Speaker 1: Voyager one mission? Is before you were even born? By
- 0:24Speaker 1: a lot, Katie. Voyager one got sent up in the
- 0:28Speaker 1: seventies and has been traveling way, way, way, flipping out
- 0:32Speaker 1: into space for a very long time. What stopped communicating
- 0:36Speaker 1: with us about five months ago, and we thought, well,
- 0:38Speaker 1: that's it, it's done. I mean, it wasn't expected to
- 0:41Speaker 1: the last something I said, It wasn't expected to last forever.
- 0:44Speaker 1: And then all of a sudden, yesterday they got they
- 0:47Speaker 1: started communicating again, and it started getting text and stuff
- 0:50Speaker 1: like that, and I wondered if it just responded, uh, yeah,
- 0:53Speaker 1: I must have not got your texts, or I was
- 0:56Speaker 1: busy here I got a new phone or something more,
- 1:00Speaker 1: something weird.
- 1:01Speaker 2: If you don't know why I'm not transmitting, I'm not
- 1:05Speaker 2: going to tell you.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Voyager one goes back. I've been I've just been really
- 1:09Speaker 1: busy lately. Sorry about that or something. I don't know.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Somebody at NASA called tech support, and I said, did
- 1:14Speaker 3: you try turning it off and turning it back on?
- 1:17Speaker 1: That's something That thing is still out there after forty
- 1:20Speaker 1: seven years. I think it is traveling through space just
- 1:23Speaker 1: as far away as anything has ever been, and it's
- 1:26Speaker 1: still communicating wild Now to the uh mocking me we
- 1:32Speaker 1: got this is about the way I grill and the
- 1:35Speaker 1: pictures I've tweeted out and Katie's complain about my grilling
- 1:40Speaker 1: re IQ differences, which we were talking about differences different
- 1:43Speaker 1: kinds of intelligence earlier in the show. Somebody texted Jack
- 1:47Speaker 1: seems to be brilliant at history, but then he puts
- 1:49Speaker 1: his grilling utensils on the ground. So yes, there are
- 1:52Speaker 1: different kinds of intelligence.
- 1:54Speaker 4: That's a great point.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Yes, the contrast shocking.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I do I put the spatula on the ground.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Well not just that, but then we brought when we
- 2:04Speaker 3: pointed it out to you said well where else where?
- 2:05Speaker 4: Should I put them? Anywhere else? Jack?
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yes, even on a paper towel on the ground, although
- 2:13Speaker 2: that's just partial credit. Did get this note from Dan
- 2:17Speaker 2: in North Carolina. I'm with you, Jack. I have zero
- 2:19Speaker 2: interest in grilling, and am convinced that half the men
- 2:22Speaker 2: that claim to be interested are latent junior high schooler's
- 2:25Speaker 2: desperate to fit in. So, like the brave, masked intellectual
- 2:28Speaker 2: walking your parade route, I say f you to those
- 2:31Speaker 2: who bows.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't mean, I don't think there's got to
- 2:36Speaker 1: be a flaw. And other people that liked grill, I
- 2:39Speaker 1: just I just don't enjoy it, and I have no
- 2:41Speaker 1: interest in learning to be better at it.
- 2:43Speaker 2: And then Dan spends a tale worth telling as an aside.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I have a relative by marriage, of course, that fancies
- 2:49Speaker 2: himself a master griller. So the propane grill was too bourgeois,
- 2:54Speaker 2: so he purchased the same charcoal grill you have, except
- 2:57Speaker 2: apparently he couldn't figure out how to install the less
- 3:00Speaker 2: so he just put it on top of a deck railing.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Then he lit the fire in there, burned a hole
- 3:07Speaker 2: almost completely through a plywood table, and emblazoned the leaves
- 3:11Speaker 2: around the car port, which led to a fire department visit.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Emblazoned he in quotes like that reporter, bet his steaks
- 3:18Speaker 2: are great, though. Yeah, the grillest and the anti grillist
- 3:23Speaker 2: is that the newest fault line, the dividing line in
- 3:25Speaker 2: American society.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Yeah, so I'm giving up on that manly skill, but
- 3:29Speaker 1: hoping I make for it and other manly areas, like
- 3:32Speaker 1: if you couldn't put the legs on that grill, you
- 3:34Speaker 1: really have no ability to fix or work on anything.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Holy crap. They're like, yeah, two screws in a wing nut. Yes, Katie,
- 3:43Speaker 1: your man card is at risk.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Oh yes, I just think that if you if you
- 3:47Speaker 3: had a different grill, it might change your experience a
- 3:50Speaker 3: little bit.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:53Speaker 3: It can't be comfortable being down in that position grilling
- 3:55Speaker 3: at all.
- 3:56Speaker 4: No, it's not comfortable in that position doing anything.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Right. How much did you spend for that grill?
- 4:01Speaker 5: Jack?
- 4:02Speaker 1: I honestly think it was on sale. I think it
- 4:05Speaker 1: was eight dollars Because it was on sale. It was
- 4:07Speaker 1: like they had two left. Should you spend dollar? Grill
- 4:12Speaker 1: guy now he's lying.
- 4:13Speaker 4: He stole it from the guy that lives in front
- 4:15Speaker 4: of the radio station.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Right, lives in his beaten down RV.
- 4:19Speaker 2: It's the mini Weber right that sits like a foot
- 4:22Speaker 2: off the ground. The top of it's a foot of
- 4:25Speaker 2: maybe a foot and a half.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Yeah. I think it's designed to take with your camping
- 4:28Speaker 1: or something. It's not designed tailgate the grill you have
- 4:32Speaker 1: in your backyard, right, Yeah, it's kind of funny when
- 4:36Speaker 1: I've been looking for a house and some of these houses,
- 4:38Speaker 1: you know, they got the built in grill with the
- 4:42Speaker 1: refrigerator and the just all hed in a fan above it,
- 4:45Speaker 1: and all these differents. I think, I think this is
- 4:46Speaker 1: slightly different than what I hearent have. Hanson says he
- 4:49Speaker 1: knows a place you could buy by she used grills.
- 4:51Speaker 1: There you go, So I should do one with legs.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Would be handy if I didn't have to bend over. Anyway,
- 4:55Speaker 1: that's probably enough of that. This was from The Daily
- 5:00Speaker 1: Show last night. Once a week, the old host of
- 5:02Speaker 1: The Daily Show, John Stewart is on there. Pretty funny.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Well, he's actually funny, which is in contrast with the
- 5:08Speaker 2: other hosts. It certainly Trevor Noah.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Wow, this features a word I knew, I never said
- 5:15Speaker 1: and never will say. And other people think this sort
- 5:18Speaker 1: of humor is funny, and so we didn't air it
- 5:20Speaker 1: on the air. But I realize other people find this humorous.
- 5:22Speaker 1: As I was explaining, though the media has systematically failed
- 5:26Speaker 1: to contest Sean.
- 5:28Speaker 5: Please, you're killing me, my poor sweet naive older than
- 5:32Speaker 5: I remember, John, we need this messy bull spectacle. Every
- 5:38Speaker 5: other news story is a massive bummer. This Trump trial
- 5:42Speaker 5: is like an open window and a greyhound bus full
- 5:44Speaker 5: of farts. Why are you trying to close the window, John,
- 5:48Speaker 5: Why are you trying to make.
- 5:49Speaker 4: A smell farts? I'm not trying to make a smell.
- 5:53Speaker 4: You're not trying to make.
- 5:58Speaker 1: And Hans, our executive producer, thought that was funny. I
- 6:01Speaker 1: don't like that word. I don't say that word to me.
- 6:03Speaker 1: That is the F word, and so.
- 6:06Speaker 4: I will never understand that.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I don't understand it myself, but I'm appalled by that word.
- 6:12Speaker 1: And I do not find there any humor in the topic.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Okay, all right, capt'n cuckoo whatever, I'm interested in the
- 6:19Speaker 2: angle of h We need this story. It's a breath
- 6:23Speaker 2: of fresh air.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I mean, it's a Is.
- 6:26Speaker 2: That just lefty insanity? Or I find it troubling.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Focusing on what time he arrived, what his hair looked like,
- 6:35Speaker 1: did he fall asleep? Just something that's just that as
- 6:38Speaker 1: opposed to super heavy duty, wore abortion, et cetera. I
- 6:44Speaker 1: guess yeah.
- 6:46Speaker 2: The weaponizing of the justice system against political candidates is
- 6:49Speaker 2: light fair.
- 6:50Speaker 1: It's hilarious.
- 6:51Speaker 2: I think I could stay awake.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I thought it was pretty funny that that young correspondent
- 6:56Speaker 1: said older than I remember John Stewart. She probably was
- 7:01Speaker 1: watching him in like junior high and really into it.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Now she's on the Daily Show. He's a sixties.
- 7:07Speaker 2: How it is if you see somebody then see him
- 7:09Speaker 2: five years later, it's like, oh God, I had.
- 7:12Speaker 1: One of those. The other day. I ran into somebody,
- 7:15Speaker 1: thought did did I have I aged the same amount
- 7:17Speaker 1: since the last time I saw you? Is you have?
- 7:20Speaker 1: That can't possibly be true?
- 7:23Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 7:24Speaker 1: Well, okay, I think I'm pretty sure. I didn't take
- 7:28Speaker 1: a lot of physics, but I'm pretty sure time moves
- 7:30Speaker 1: the same rate for all of us, right.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Unless one finds one's self in a black hole? Yes,
- 7:35Speaker 2: that is my understanding.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Of So if I run into somebody and they've aged
- 7:38Speaker 1: a certain amount of what lead me to believe that
- 7:40Speaker 1: I've aged the same amount too? I just haven't recognized him?
- 7:44Speaker 4: I correct, there, sure see yourself every day.
- 7:47Speaker 1: This probably doesn't happen to you, does a Katie? You're
- 7:48Speaker 1: too young for that.
- 7:49Speaker 4: No, but it has. I've seen some people from high school.
- 7:53Speaker 4: I'm like, ooh, you're aging, dreamer.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Can you tell him?
- 7:58Speaker 3: That no face probably does. I am the master of
- 8:03Speaker 3: saying it with my facial expressions.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Unfortunately, all right, people do age at different rates, though,
- 8:07Speaker 1: I mean, there's the biggest swing is fifteen years. They
- 8:10Speaker 1: say in what age you look once you get older,
- 8:15Speaker 1: depending on genetics and lifestyle. So it's not completely true
- 8:18Speaker 1: that we aged the same amount.
- 8:20Speaker 2: And I'm realizing the ultimate do you want to look
- 8:23Speaker 2: good now or later? Is sun exposure?
- 8:26Speaker 1: Oh wow. I have a female friend who, uh, all
- 8:29Speaker 1: her friends say, why do you look so young? And
- 8:32Speaker 1: it's all because she did not tan when she was
- 8:34Speaker 1: younger like they all did, and she does look she's
- 8:37Speaker 1: fifteen years younger than her contemporaries at least. Wow. So
- 8:41Speaker 1: it is tough. Do you want to be pale person
- 8:43Speaker 1: at the pool when you're twenty two or do you
- 8:47Speaker 1: want to be looks forty at age fifty person when
- 8:50Speaker 1: you're older.
- 8:50Speaker 4: That's a tough call, leather face.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I definitely find myself as I am rapidly aging.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Among you got your tans too much, young woman, Then
- 9:03Speaker 2: you got your tens too much forty year old woman,
- 9:07Speaker 2: and you're starting to see the signs of what might
- 9:10Speaker 2: be described as a Catcher's mitt like dermis, and then
- 9:16Speaker 2: you have your sixty plus tanned too much woman and
- 9:21Speaker 2: man nim birds have come home.
- 9:23Speaker 4: To rooms right about about a hey about.
- 9:25Speaker 1: A Yeah, that's a heck of a price to pay
- 9:27Speaker 1: to be good in tan when you were twenty five.
- 9:29Speaker 1: It really is.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Yeah, And again I don't I don't mean to be cruel.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I don't measure people by their looks. But there's no
- 9:37Speaker 2: better term than leathery. I remember we had a salesperson
- 9:40Speaker 2: referred to as tan guy.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Well he was he was, Yeah, he was super tan.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Yeah he was tan or was it actual tank? It was?
- 9:48Speaker 1: I know it was real tan because we went to
- 9:50Speaker 1: a company. Remember there was a company barbecue once and
- 9:54Speaker 1: he did the really odd thing at this company barbecue
- 9:56Speaker 1: everybody stand out where he took off his shirt and
- 10:00Speaker 1: sat in a lawn chair with everybody around at the
- 10:02Speaker 1: company barbecue so he could get more sons. So I guess,
- 10:05Speaker 1: I guess he was tame guy.
- 10:08Speaker 2: All right, Yeah, work function, Yeah, but hey, sun's out,
- 10:11Speaker 2: guns out and teats nip apparently moves out exactly.
- 10:18Speaker 1: That was in really good shape.
- 10:19Speaker 2: But yeah, he was not gonna waste a single opportunity
- 10:23Speaker 2: to get more UV raising. Yeah, he's gonna look a
- 10:29Speaker 2: hundred by the time he's sixty.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Well, I guess that's it.
