- 0:02Justin Alan Hayes: Welcome to this episode of the Voices for Voices TV show and podcast.
- 0:06Justin Alan Hayes: I am your host, founder and executive director of Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes.
- 0:12Justin Alan Hayes: Thank you for joining us If you can give us a thumbs up.
- 0:16Justin Alan Hayes: If you subscribe, follow, share all that good stuff that's free also will help us to reach our goal of trying to reach 3 billion people over the course of my lifetime and beyond, and we don't know if we'll get there, but we have a huge goal and without your love and support, we wouldn't be this far down the journey with us.
- 0:42Justin Alan Hayes: So we are going to pick up our conversation with Scott, otherwise known as EdgiScript his username You've probably heard of him Spiritman and we're going to pick up our part two of the conversation, where Scott was talking about an individual who is now near and dear to his keep up to date with you and all that fun stuff.
- 1:16Justin Alan Hayes: So, Scott, go ahead and pick it up as you'd like.
- 1:36Scott Edgiscript: Oh, thank you.
- 1:37Scott Edgiscript: Yeah, and I just wanted to say real quick, when the last one just kind of cut off like that, I started laughing when we were disconnected because I was like you see, god, I'm so glad we just proved.
- 1:57Scott Edgiscript: I don't know what I'm doing.
- 2:01Justin Alan Hayes: So yeah.
- 2:02Scott Edgiscript: So no, but I really I'm.
- 2:08Scott Edgiscript: I'm actually appreciative of those moments.
- 2:11Scott Edgiscript: Right now in my life I've come to a place where I've said, you know, thank you God for making me look less so anything that happens, you lift you, glorify yourself.
- 2:22Scott Edgiscript: That's one of my prayers throughout the later part of my life is glorify yourself, don't lift me up.
- 2:43Scott Edgiscript: I don't need to be lifted up.
- 2:43Scott Edgiscript: I'm very happy to explain to anybody how I am incompetent and I can't do this, but but anyway, where where was it?
- 2:47Scott Edgiscript: Yes, I was talking about Dragon's Tower, and she's an amazing, amazing person who's just been such an inspiration in my life too.
- 2:52Scott Edgiscript: But but where I was going with that too was just to say just, I was thanking God.
- 3:02Scott Edgiscript: In that you've given me, you know, if nothing else happens, if I don't see any other fruit, this was enough.
- 3:11Scott Edgiscript: You know, I've touched someone's life deeply and I just thank God for that.
- 3:17Scott Edgiscript: So anyway, that was kind of going around with that.
- 3:21Scott Edgiscript: Sometimes it's hard to see why God has put us in the place he has.
- 3:26Scott Edgiscript: It was kind of where I was going with that.
- 3:28Scott Edgiscript: I don't know when else should we go.
- 3:32Justin Alan Hayes: Yeah, I mean it's really detailed.
- 3:36Justin Alan Hayes: On that.
- 3:36Justin Alan Hayes: I find myself a lot the old adage, you know, plant a seed, it'll, it'll grow eventually.
- 3:46Justin Alan Hayes: I have a hard time, after I plant the seed, to take a step back.
- 3:51Justin Alan Hayes: I'm I'm always trying to like, watch it, watch it, watch it, and then and then sometimes be a lot of times, be disappointed and I go well, why isn't it growing?
- 4:03Justin Alan Hayes: I did this thing with put this seed and uh, and and I think that's a that's a hard thing for a lot of people is is to have that, that patience, especially with how digitized everything's come with their phones and, uh, how connected we are.
- 4:21Justin Alan Hayes: Like, oh well, I did this thing, I did this project, so it should automatically bear the fruit.
- 4:28Justin Alan Hayes: And and then we get into, uh, you know, comparing ourselves to others that may have been doing things longer than us.
- 4:35Justin Alan Hayes: Uh, and yeah, I do that all all the time.
- 4:41Justin Alan Hayes: But uh, you know, look at, you know things my parents have and what they've done, and it's like, well, it's taken so many years for them to be where they're at.
- 4:52Justin Alan Hayes: So I can't really compare myself as well as another organization that has been around for 100 years and we've been around for five to say, oh well, why aren't these things happening?
- 5:05Justin Alan Hayes: And I find myself in those ruts and so I definitely follow what you're talking about.
- 5:20Justin Alan Hayes: It's not for me, it's for God, and at the end of the day, once we're gone, it's going to me.
- 5:25Justin Alan Hayes: You know, it's for, it's for God, and uh, and at the end of the day, once, once we're gone, um, it's going to be those good deeds as people that we've touched that are going to really take our legacy.
- 5:33Justin Alan Hayes: Um, cause, we even think of presidents and supposed important people, and now, with the Pope passing and there's, there's only so many people that get kind of remembered.
- 5:49Justin Alan Hayes: So if we're in it for you know all the glory and the fame for ourselves, uh, it doesn't matter.
- 5:55Justin Alan Hayes: We're not going to be remembered like we.
- 5:58Justin Alan Hayes: We think we are and I think that's a hard thing to handle, yeah, the.
- 6:03Scott Edgiscript: The history books in heaven, I believe, are much different than the history books on earth.
- 6:07Scott Edgiscript: And that's one of the things.
- 6:10Scott Edgiscript: And your show is about mental health and you have a focus on mental health, and I think that's one of the most important things, for proper mental health is to realize just how worthless you are and how much worth God has placed on you.
- 6:29Scott Edgiscript: You can do nothing on your own To take a deep breath.
- 6:34Scott Edgiscript: That breath itself was gracious from God.
- 6:37Scott Edgiscript: You don't deserve it.
- 6:39Scott Edgiscript: You didn't earn it.
- 6:40Scott Edgiscript: You did nothing to make it happen.
- 6:43Scott Edgiscript: You didn't put this earth in place.
- 6:44Scott Edgiscript: You didn't create the atmosphere.
- 6:47Scott Edgiscript: You didn't build your own lungs.
- 6:49Scott Edgiscript: You didn't do anything.
- 6:51Scott Edgiscript: God gave it to you because God said you're worth it.
- 6:59Scott Edgiscript: Few years.
- 7:00Scott Edgiscript: And one of the things that, uh, one of the things that jumped out at me was that we, we, we don't see the creation of man right off the bat.
- 7:14Scott Edgiscript: We see, you know he builds everything else up to that point and it was all for man.
- 7:16Scott Edgiscript: He was building the house he was building, uh, and there there's a.
- 7:21Scott Edgiscript: There's a lot to this I won't get into here.
- 7:24Scott Edgiscript: Take three days, but he was building a house for his bride.
- 7:29Scott Edgiscript: It's one of the pictures that we should see in that and did.
- 7:38Scott Edgiscript: One of the things that hit me is man did nothing to deserve any of it.
- 7:43Scott Edgiscript: He didn't even exist.
- 7:45Scott Edgiscript: How could he have done anything to have said God, I deserve what you're giving me when, when he wasn't even in the picture?
- 7:54Scott Edgiscript: You know God?
- 7:56Scott Edgiscript: God formed the mountains, formed the seas, uh, created the plants, made the animals.
- 8:01Scott Edgiscript: He was setting it up for his beloved, and his beloved didn't even exist yet there's nothing man could have possibly done.
- 8:11Scott Edgiscript: That's a picture of grace.
- 8:14Scott Edgiscript: That's a picture of undeserved, unmerited favor.
- 8:18Scott Edgiscript: God said Justin, I love you and I'm going to give everything for you, long before you were ever a thought on this planet, long before you existed as a human being.
- 8:39Scott Edgiscript: And that's what I try.
- 8:41Scott Edgiscript: That's what I try my hardest, and I fail, like everyone else, but I try my hardest to focus everything I do on God.
- 8:51Scott Edgiscript: What makes you happy?
- 8:54Scott Edgiscript: Because this life is but a vapor.
- 8:57Scott Edgiscript: It's going to be gone.
- 8:58Scott Edgiscript: I don't care if you live to be a thousand.
- 9:11Scott Edgiscript: This life, in comparison to eternity, is gone.
- 9:12Scott Edgiscript: So it's like to me, I relate it to, it's like sitting down and playing monopoly.
- 9:13Scott Edgiscript: Yeah, you want to win, you want to do good.
- 9:15Scott Edgiscript: It is this fun game and all that, but at the end of the day, the board gets put away and you keep going with your life.
- 9:21Scott Edgiscript: That game was just a half hour hour, whatever it takes to, however long it takes to play, and whether you won or lost is irrelevant to you now living your life, and that's this life that we're in here.
- 9:35Scott Edgiscript: I relate it to a game we're we're playing this game for, for what's going to happen after this game.
- 9:46Scott Edgiscript: This, the board game, closes.
- 9:47Scott Edgiscript: We box it up, we put it away and now we step into eternity.
- 9:52Scott Edgiscript: Uh, now, now that life is what matters, uh, uh, everything that happens here is, uh, the only thing that matters is God.
- 10:06Scott Edgiscript: How am I pleasing you?
- 10:07Scott Edgiscript: How did I make you happy?
- 10:10Scott Edgiscript: How did I make you smile with what I did?
- 10:13Scott Edgiscript: Because then, for the rest of eternity, we're going to reap that reward.
- 10:19Scott Edgiscript: And I don't know, I guess I'll I'll stop with that thought.
- 10:25Scott Edgiscript: What you got, anything?
- 10:28Justin Alan Hayes: no, no, thanks for going into depth, because I, I mean, I, I, uh, I love to learn and and to kind of be refreshed, and and I like your analogy, the board game, where, yep, you're playing your own ball and then the game ends at a certain point and it goes in back into the box and, well, you know, life kind of continues and even when you know we have loved ones, that that passed, uh, really wrote the the same, the same thing, go through grieving and go through grieving at different levels, but at some point it's like, okay, well, the ceremony is going to be over, the burial or whatever instructions that are being done, the calling hours and all that.
- 11:26Justin Alan Hayes: Then there's going to be a point where, okay, well, that part's done, and so then it's really up to us to keep them alive in our minds and our spirits.
- 11:41Justin Alan Hayes: And that part is really hard even just to think about.
- 11:47Justin Alan Hayes: Like, oh, my gosh, like, well, that's gonna be me someday, and then people are just gonna, they're just gonna go get a hold of their lives like oh my gosh, like I thought.
- 11:56Justin Alan Hayes: I thought I was, you know, the important person and that and it's like well you know it, uh, my, my cousin, he, he said best we were, uh, we were together a long time and and he said he's like I've been to graceland, and he said you know what's missing?
- 12:14Justin Alan Hayes: And I said so I don't know.
- 12:16Justin Alan Hayes: And he goes well, all of these things are there, but all this isn't there.
- 12:21Justin Alan Hayes: So you can accumulate whatever we want house, car, boat, what have.
- 12:28Justin Alan Hayes: You can't take it with you.
- 12:31Justin Alan Hayes: And I think that just a good reminder and it really kind of just brings that perspective down to where it is.
- 12:41Justin Alan Hayes: I'm guilty of having an ego and you know time yeah, time to time and and I do okay.
- 12:51Justin Alan Hayes: Well, when you get, when you kind of get brought back down to the earth and back down to life and uh, like, wow, like what, what's actually going to happen?
- 13:01Justin Alan Hayes: And then to your, your point and you know point and the purpose, and why are we here?
- 13:06Justin Alan Hayes: And we're here for a reason and many reasons, and some we know, some we won't find out and others will.
- 13:19Scott Edgiscript: Yeah, I want to share.
- 13:20Scott Edgiscript: There's a friend of mine who's a missionary I want to share.
- 13:30Scott Edgiscript: There's a friend of mine who's a missionary and he is a missionary to Mexico and he's a Mexican citizen, came across illegally years ago and he and he jokes about how he would.
- 13:37Scott Edgiscript: He was living in LA and the the the agents would come once a week and they would say, yep, you're not supposed to be here, come back, and they deport him.
- 13:47Scott Edgiscript: And by that afternoon he was back because he knew how to get back in.
- 13:51Scott Edgiscript: And you know they would, they would deport him out and he would just be right back.
- 13:55Scott Edgiscript: And it was just a cyclical thing.
- 13:57Scott Edgiscript: They just kept doing their job, deporting him.
- 13:59Scott Edgiscript: He just kept coming right back and he said that one time, coming right back, and he said that one time.
- 14:10Scott Edgiscript: So he moved to Iowa, which is where he moved to Iowa and he's working a factory job and this little Jewish guy wants to keep telling about Jesus and he and he's sick of it, he doesn't want anything to do with it and he keeps telling this guy, get away from me.
- 14:30Scott Edgiscript: Oh, I'm sorry, you cool, yeah, yeah, my daughter.
- 14:49Justin Alan Hayes: She's trying to like whisper, like whisper, and I'm trying to yeah, everything, everything's good.
- 14:54Justin Alan Hayes: No, that's totally cool, yeah anyway, yeah we just had a former uh neighbor where we used live, and she brought an Easter basket for her.
- 15:07Scott Edgiscript: And my wife's in the basement.
- 15:08Justin Alan Hayes: I'm up here and she's like she's got to go to the dentist.
- 15:12Justin Alan Hayes: She's in her car.
- 15:13Justin Alan Hayes: I was like, well, give her a hug, say thanks.
- 15:16Justin Alan Hayes: She's like no, no, she's already gone.
- 15:21Scott Edgiscript: Anyway, sorry, I didn't mean to cut you, no, that's okay, uh, but, uh, hey, once again, proof, it's not about us, um, but this guy, he said he kept, he kept, this guy kept witnessing to my friend.
- 15:35Scott Edgiscript: Finally, he says you tell me about jesus one more time, I'm gonna beat the living snot out of you.
- 15:40Scott Edgiscript: And he kept going.
- 15:42Scott Edgiscript: So this guy with a few of his friends meet him after work outside and they beat him up and he essentially doesn't see him again, leaves that job, goes somewhere else and about a year later he accepts Jesus as a savior and he said and that guy was one of the reasons as a savior.
- 16:07Scott Edgiscript: And he said and that guy was one of the reasons.
- 16:09Scott Edgiscript: Because he said that, uh, that guy, uh, was willing to be beaten up for this.
- 16:17Scott Edgiscript: And he said, uh, uh, that guy just wouldn't give up.
- 16:18Scott Edgiscript: And he said that that just kept eating at him and and he and he, he was like it.
- 16:21Scott Edgiscript: It must really mean something, this must be real, if he was willing to go through that for me, uh, for this.
- 16:29Scott Edgiscript: And.
- 16:30Scott Edgiscript: But the thing about the thing I always remember about that story that that makes an impact to me is that guy that he said he was one of the reasons.
- 16:40Scott Edgiscript: I, I don't believe he knows you know what happened.
- 16:45Scott Edgiscript: So, and that that's why I say it's important to understand.
- 16:49Scott Edgiscript: I'm here, I have to obey God when God says go, he knows what he's doing.
- 16:56Scott Edgiscript: You might never see the results, that's okay, you don't have to.
- 17:02Scott Edgiscript: You just got to trust him that he knows what's going on.
- 17:08Scott Edgiscript: So that guy never saw the results of this guy not only turning his life to Christ, but now he's a missionary and he's reaching hundreds, thousands of other people and he's touching lives and he's reaching out to hurting souls that need him.
- 17:24Scott Edgiscript: And this one guy might be going.
- 17:27Scott Edgiscript: God, you know what's happening.
- 17:30Scott Edgiscript: Why am I doing this?
- 17:31Scott Edgiscript: I'm not seeing anything.
- 17:38Justin Alan Hayes: Wow, when you're in your creative space, is that, is that time that you, uh, you set aside, or is it moments that come up and you're like okay, I gotta stop what I'm doing and I gotta get this down?
- 17:57Scott Edgiscript: I'm just, I'm just curious on how that and I know it's probably like- yeah, a lot of different things well, for me it's um, I there there is a small percentage, I'd say about 20 is just.
- 18:12Scott Edgiscript: I should work on this, just focus, just sit down, make it happen, uh.
- 18:17Scott Edgiscript: But I don't like to do that.
- 18:19Scott Edgiscript: As much as possible, I, I want it to be just flowing and it has to come out of me, uh.
- 18:24Scott Edgiscript: But there is a certain amount of discipline where you say, look, just set everything else aside and focus.
- 18:31Scott Edgiscript: But usually what I try to do is, when I come up with an inspiration for something, when something hits me, write it down, write it down at that moment.
- 18:41Scott Edgiscript: And usually I can't write it down.
- 18:43Scott Edgiscript: I don't have a pen or paper.
- 18:44Scott Edgiscript: So I will, I'll grab my phone, I'll pull up my email and I will email myself, and I will, and I will text hey, this is my idea, and so I send that email to myself, so I don't forget it.
- 18:57Scott Edgiscript: And then, when?
- 19:01Scott Edgiscript: Then what?
- 19:02Scott Edgiscript: What's going on is?
- 19:04Scott Edgiscript: I'm working, I'm doing other stuff and I'm constantly thinking, oh, that I got to get in on that, I get, I get hungry for it.
- 19:10Scott Edgiscript: So then my first free moment, it's like when I jump in.
- 19:15Scott Edgiscript: The juices have been flowing and and I just start writing and I start creating, because it's already been working in my mind for a long time Now.
- 19:26Scott Edgiscript: When that?
- 19:27Scott Edgiscript: When does that inspiration come?
- 19:28Scott Edgiscript: I don't know.
- 19:29Scott Edgiscript: You know it just happens Sometimes.
- 19:32Scott Edgiscript: It doesn't come.
- 19:33Scott Edgiscript: It doesn't come.
- 19:34Scott Edgiscript: And you're like, you know, I'm honest, maybe with Spirit man you're like I really told him I'd get him the next comic.
- 19:40Scott Edgiscript: I told the artist, paul, I'll get him the next comic and I got to get this done.
- 19:44Scott Edgiscript: You know, and you'll sit and you'll focus and you'll and and you'll work on it.
- 19:48Scott Edgiscript: And for me personally, the most difficult thing about writing is the blank page to start with.
- 19:55Scott Edgiscript: It's it's oh my goodness, it's crazy difficult.
- 20:00Scott Edgiscript: Oh my goodness, it's crazy difficult.
- 20:03Scott Edgiscript: I might have a few ideas about how it goes, but I don't know how to start and get there to that point, or what have you?
- 20:10Scott Edgiscript: Once, it's like once I start writing it the, the damn breaks.
- 20:18Scott Edgiscript: It's like what?
- 20:18Scott Edgiscript: Sometimes I will write something that sounds dumb, just to get something on the page, or I'll write a skeletal version of it.
- 20:27Scott Edgiscript: I won't write in depth, I'll just.
- 20:29Scott Edgiscript: I'll just write how are you doing?
- 20:34Scott Edgiscript: I'm fine, I need to get this done.
- 20:37Scott Edgiscript: Ok, then let's do it.
- 20:39Scott Edgiscript: And you know, a very bare bones version that does not sound good at all, but I'm getting the general plot or the general idea of what's happening out.
- 20:47Scott Edgiscript: And then when I go back and reread it, it's like now my mind is not focused on creating something, it's following along with that and now things start to flow.
- 20:59Scott Edgiscript: At that point, now I start to speak more naturally.
- 21:01Scott Edgiscript: Now I'm'm.
- 21:02Scott Edgiscript: You know, I wouldn't say it like that, I'd say it like this, and and now it starts to become flesh and not just a skeleton.
- 21:11Justin Alan Hayes: That's how I work, so uh, an individual who, uh, I guess what might be, things or topics that an individual as they're growing up might reveal to them or to their teachers or family, that writing, creating might be a way that they want to go and they want to at least try out.
- 21:41Justin Alan Hayes: Do you have any, maybe insight?
- 21:43Justin Alan Hayes: And I know it's probably there's no one one size fits all, but just kind of overall yeah, no, you're definitely right with that.
- 21:51Scott Edgiscript: That one size does you know?
- 21:53Scott Edgiscript: Definitely that does not fit all uh.
- 21:55Scott Edgiscript: Some advice I would give to people who are thinking about it is uh one, uh.
- 22:01Scott Edgiscript: Treat it like you will never make a dime.
- 22:04Scott Edgiscript: Treat it like you will never see any money from this at all.
- 22:08Scott Edgiscript: Just assume right now you will never have a career in this.
- 22:13Scott Edgiscript: You will never make any money whatsoever.
- 22:16Scott Edgiscript: Do you still want to do it?
- 22:18Scott Edgiscript: And if the answer is yes, then go for it, because then it's a passion growing within you.
- 22:25Scott Edgiscript: Now I'm not saying that certain people can't have good careers and make lots of money in things they don't really love.
- 22:32Scott Edgiscript: I mean, I have many jobs that I've had in my life I've been very good at and I'm professional and I care and I do the best for my employer, but I have never had one job that I've said.
- 22:53Scott Edgiscript: This is the job is why I'm here.
- 22:54Scott Edgiscript: The money is why I'm here.
- 22:56Scott Edgiscript: I need to make a living.
- 22:57Scott Edgiscript: I need to pay the bills.
- 22:59Scott Edgiscript: I've longed for a job.
- 23:01Scott Edgiscript: You don't have to pay me, I just want to be here.
- 23:03Scott Edgiscript: I've never had one, so I'm not worried about making money off of this.
- 23:10Scott Edgiscript: I mean, I would love to make money off of this.
- 23:12Scott Edgiscript: If my novel sold a million copies, you know if, if spirit man, if it took off, became a major motion picture or something like that, I wouldn't complain.
- 23:24Scott Edgiscript: But I'm not looking for that.
- 23:26Scott Edgiscript: I love to do this, whether I make a single dime on it ever.
- 23:31Scott Edgiscript: And quite frankly, paul and I for Spirit man we put a lot more money into it than we've seen back.
- 23:37Scott Edgiscript: We give away the comic as much as possible because we see it as more of a ministry than a money-making venture.
- 23:46Scott Edgiscript: But that's the number one rule I tell people is does it come from here or does it come from here?
- 23:53Scott Edgiscript: Because if it comes from here, then you're going to love it and you're going to.
- 23:58Scott Edgiscript: You're going to.
- 23:58Scott Edgiscript: You is going to come out onto the page who you are and your passion and that is going to make the final project so much more believable and real and exciting and emotional and just absorbing.
- 24:13Scott Edgiscript: If you, if this is the only thing going on the page, it can be entertaining.
- 24:18Scott Edgiscript: I mean, how many?
- 24:20Scott Edgiscript: How many movies have we seen in our lives that we came out of and we went?
- 24:23Scott Edgiscript: Yeah, I had a good two hours.
- 24:25Scott Edgiscript: That was.
- 24:25Scott Edgiscript: That was a fun time, never going to remember it again.
- 24:28Scott Edgiscript: But yeah, I, I paid my ticket and I enjoyed myself.
- 24:32Scott Edgiscript: Versus how many movies or shows you just, you just repeat and they, they sucked you in and they just absorbed you and I am never going to forget that moment and it changed me as a person.
- 24:44Scott Edgiscript: That's the difference between writing from here or writing from here.
- 24:51Justin Alan Hayes: And I think the reverb a little bit back to that play that you were in and going into that last scene, slip bow have all these thoughts.
- 25:09Justin Alan Hayes: You were doing it because it was in your heart and not just in their head.
- 25:18Justin Alan Hayes: It made that those comments at the end where her voice was crackling made that all more like okay, yeah, this is what I love to do and if I have an opportunity to be paid to do this type of work, I'd love it.
- 25:38Justin Alan Hayes: But the feeling and the chills and uh, just like, oh my gosh, like I'm, we really did affect people and it we're not always, uh, we didn't have to focus on, you know, the the negative things and all those can be be worked on, um, but just just the mere fact that it was entertainment, but it was.
- 26:02Justin Alan Hayes: It gripped them from like an emotional standpoint, not just a money standpoint.
- 26:08Scott Edgiscript: Yeah, yeah, and in no way am I trying to hint that if anyone makes money off of this it's corrupt and wrong.
- 26:15Scott Edgiscript: No, of course not.
- 26:16Scott Edgiscript: No, absolutely.
- 26:17Scott Edgiscript: A worker is worth his wages.
- 26:19Scott Edgiscript: I'm not saying that at all.
- 26:21Scott Edgiscript: I'm just saying if you are, if you are truly passionate about this, about your writing, then it's just going to make the product.
- 26:36Scott Edgiscript: Not only is it going to make the product better, in my opinion, but it's going to be something you enjoy doing.
- 26:44Scott Edgiscript: If it's coming from here and you're doing it for a buck, then you're going to hate it after a while.
- 26:51Scott Edgiscript: It's gonna it.
- 26:52Scott Edgiscript: It it's just a job, it's not a passion and, as we all know, in any job we've ever had, there come annoyances, there come.
- 27:00Scott Edgiscript: Oh, I wish I could find a better career.
- 27:02Scott Edgiscript: I wish I could find.
- 27:03Scott Edgiscript: Uh, if it's coming from within you, you'll never have that because it's it's, it's who you are, it's what you want to be doing.
- 27:11Scott Edgiscript: Yeah, that's the best advice I can give anybody.
- 27:15Scott Edgiscript: I mean, there's a lot of little technical things that you know, everyone should to you know, for one thing, a little simple thing learn how to spell, please.
- 27:25Scott Edgiscript: But but little things like that, you know.
- 27:30Scott Edgiscript: But yeah, yeah, it's just, it's just got to be within you yeah, no, I'm the.
- 27:36Justin Alan Hayes: I'm the same way it, being 40, 43, uh years old the first I was in the first part of my life.
- 27:45Justin Alan Hayes: Looking at my, my family and the, the, uh, the, my dad, dad and grandpa in their 70s is kind of when they end up passing on first half doing things based off of my mind and want a better title, want a better salary.
- 28:16Justin Alan Hayes: I mean, obviously everybody wants to be paid, uh, a good wage and and now with voices for voices and and the things that we're doing now it's more of the.
- 28:28Justin Alan Hayes: It's kind of like to your point, like put a lot more money in it than um than that way that we've gotten out.
- 28:36Justin Alan Hayes: But I'm pulled in by the, the heartstrings, versus, yeah, the the mind and making the buck.
- 28:45Justin Alan Hayes: And uh, I mean people ask me all the time I was like, yeah, like 10 years ago I've never dreamed that I would be at the pendulum, you know, went so much the other way but that hits the hit to your point that you know if you do something you like to do and you would do for no money, then that's something to be a good, good thing to at least to explore and and see.
- 29:17Justin Alan Hayes: Now, when you um because you mentioned you prior to, prior to the internet, we got about eight minutes left.
- 29:25Justin Alan Hayes: This isn't a plan.
- 29:26Justin Alan Hayes: Um, thank you for that.
- 29:30Justin Alan Hayes: I should have said that last time it popped up.
- 29:37Justin Alan Hayes: As far as the submission process, you mentioned that prior to internet, you had to face-to-face, you had to share to see if there was an interest in it.
- 29:48Justin Alan Hayes: How does that process, or has it changed?
- 29:52Justin Alan Hayes: You know somebody has a work that they put together and they say, okay, now what do I do?
- 29:59Justin Alan Hayes: And not that somebody is going to be interested, but at least to test the waters.
- 30:05Scott Edgiscript: You know what?
- 30:05Scott Edgiscript: I'll be honest with you, I'm the last person to ask that question to.
- 30:09Scott Edgiscript: I have been so blessed.
- 30:11Scott Edgiscript: Paul does 90 of everything.
- 30:14Scott Edgiscript: Uh, he's online, he knows.
- 30:17Scott Edgiscript: I mean, I mean I went to my first comic convention, my first comic con with him with this comic he set everything up.
- 30:25Scott Edgiscript: I have been so blessed that, um, I don't know anything about that.
- 30:30Scott Edgiscript: I just write and I say Paul, here's my script and he's got it.
- 30:35Scott Edgiscript: He sets up the website.
- 30:37Scott Edgiscript: He set up our website.
- 30:38Scott Edgiscript: Spiritmancomicscom is all him.
- 30:42Justin Alan Hayes: It's awesome by the way.
- 30:43Justin Alan Hayes: Check it out.
- 30:45Scott Edgiscript: Oh, thank you, and it's free.
- 30:48Scott Edgiscript: It's free online for anyone who wants to check it out, uh, uh, but all he does, the artwork he does, he does all of that himself.
- 30:58Scott Edgiscript: And right now I'm kind of in a I I'm very intimidated by all of that.
- 31:02Scott Edgiscript: And it's not that I'm unintelligent, I just, you know, I've got other duties, I've got other things going on, I have other other scripts.
- 31:09Scott Edgiscript: When I have free time I just want to write.
- 31:10Scott Edgiscript: I don't want to dig into, well, how do I do this and how do I do whatever?
- 31:15Scott Edgiscript: So when I started looking to get my novel published, I went the traditional route.
- 31:21Scott Edgiscript: I went to publishers and I got some positive feedback.
- 31:26Scott Edgiscript: You know, hey, a lot of interest in this, but unfortunately we can only publish 1% of what we get.
- 31:33Scott Edgiscript: You didn't quite make the cut, all that kind of thing.
- 31:35Scott Edgiscript: But I, other than that, I don't know.
- 31:39Scott Edgiscript: A lot of people have told me you can, you have this option, you have this option.
- 31:42Scott Edgiscript: You have this option.
- 31:43Scott Edgiscript: You can self-publish, you can do this.
- 31:45Scott Edgiscript: I have no idea.
- 31:46Scott Edgiscript: I have no idea if I have first clue as to how to do that.
- 31:51Scott Edgiscript: And and again, I bring that around to.
- 31:56Scott Edgiscript: If anything good comes from this.
- 31:58Scott Edgiscript: It ain't coming from me, you know.
- 32:01Scott Edgiscript: It's coming from God, because I'm, I'm, I'm a brilliant idiot is what I am, you know.
- 32:06Scott Edgiscript: So I'm sorry.
- 32:08Scott Edgiscript: That's a lousy answer to your question.
- 32:10Scott Edgiscript: What do people do?
- 32:11Justin Alan Hayes: No.
- 32:12Scott Edgiscript: All I did was say I want to write, and God basically threw so many things in my lap that I am just so blessed with and I just I give him all the credit for all of that.
- 32:26Justin Alan Hayes: And I think that's a good lesson, that some people innately are able to do that and all the intricacies.
- 32:38Justin Alan Hayes: But then if we don't know somebody or we don't have that knowledge ourselves, the best thing kind of if the car needs to take the mechanic and you would go to the specials you find people and reach out to your network to see who's out there who's trustworthy, and then it's okay to ask for help.
- 33:06Justin Alan Hayes: I think that that's something that.
- 33:09Justin Alan Hayes: I know I've been, I can do everything myself and I can power through it, and well, that may be the case, but it comes at a cost of mental energy, physical energy, depending on what it is, and and so it's okay to ask for as for help and yeah and and paul right now is looking into, uh, what we can do to try to make spirit man a monthly comic.
- 33:33Scott Edgiscript: It's been a slow process because I write the script, I hand it to him.
- 33:36Scott Edgiscript: He does everything else so he's we've got, we've gotten.
- 33:41Scott Edgiscript: He's trying to finish inking and coloring what we have right now put together, kind of a pack, and if we can get some interest, if he can get it out there, maybe we can hire someone else to to be involved, maybe we can start putting it on shelves.
- 33:56Scott Edgiscript: He's looking into that right now and but from my part I'm kind of like you know what?
- 34:01Scott Edgiscript: I trust you.
- 34:03Scott Edgiscript: It's just, I hand it off, I'll, if I can help, let me know.
- 34:07Scott Edgiscript: It's not that I'm lazy, it's not that you know I don't know what I'm doing.
- 34:12Scott Edgiscript: You know I really don't, so you know?
- 34:17Justin Alan Hayes: yeah, I think that that really dovetails into our last couple minutes.
- 34:21Justin Alan Hayes: So how can, how can people learn about you, the work you do, spirit man?
- 34:25Justin Alan Hayes: Um, not all those, you know, those personal plugs with the work that you do Absolutely wwwspiritmancomicscom.
- 34:37Scott Edgiscript: Why do we even say the www anymore?
- 34:39Justin Alan Hayes: I do that.
- 34:42Scott Edgiscript: But spiritmancomicscom, if you want to check it out, absolutely free for anyone, a print copy if you would like it.
- 34:48Scott Edgiscript: There's a way on there you can order one.
- 34:51Scott Edgiscript: It does cost because we have to, we, it costs for us to print it, but we basically make zero on it.
- 34:58Scott Edgiscript: Uh, we basically give it to you at cost.
- 35:00Scott Edgiscript: Um, I, I have a presence.
- 35:03Scott Edgiscript: If you're on reddit, uh, you can look up edgy script, edgi script, check out my stuff again.
- 35:09Scott Edgiscript: They're they're just me having fun, uh, but if you want to read that, you can, and maybe one day my novel will be published, but I have no idea oh well, thank you for setting aside, you know time to to talk with us and chat and share thank you so much you're.
- 35:29Justin Alan Hayes: I definitely value your opinion and what you do and want to get as much clean material into everybody's hands, especially children as we're growing up.
- 35:44Justin Alan Hayes: There's lots of choices and to have the background and how you approach things are very very helpful conventions.
- 35:54Scott Edgiscript: We've had a couple comments.
- 35:56Scott Edgiscript: People walk up and look and goes oh my goodness, your women have clothes on.
- 35:59Justin Alan Hayes: Yeah, yeah right, yeah, yeah, and that's a that's, that's a big thing, because the little things they add up in the mind and uh, great, well, do we miss?
- 36:10Justin Alan Hayes: Did I miss anything else you wanted to share?
- 36:14Scott Edgiscript: No, just thank you so much.
- 36:16Scott Edgiscript: I really appreciate it.
- 36:18Scott Edgiscript: If you ever want to contact me.
- 36:19Scott Edgiscript: If you need me again, give me a buzz.
- 36:22Justin Alan Hayes: Absolutely Great.
- 36:23Justin Alan Hayes: We want to thank our.
- 36:24Justin Alan Hayes: I was able to do it the last episode because we ran right up against time, which is actually good that we were able to max that out.
- 36:31Justin Alan Hayes: That's what we like to do.
- 36:32Justin Alan Hayes: We want to thank again our listeners, our viewers.
- 36:35Justin Alan Hayes: We're well over 200 episodes.
- 36:40Justin Alan Hayes: Check us out.
- 36:40Justin Alan Hayes: We're everywhere from video, youtube Rumble, and then all the audio platforms, and then all the audio platforms, and we just are grateful about the opportunity to share the work and individuals like yourself and keep doing what you're doing.
- 36:59Justin Alan Hayes: And, yeah, we'll definitely be reaching out here in the near future as we all progress, in whatever manner that is, we'll go Great.
- 37:13Justin Alan Hayes: So until next time, please be a voice for you or somebody in need.
