- 0:02Well, welcome in to another exciting episode of the scene.
- 0:04I'm your host, Bubba Starts, and with me today is singer songwriter Lazarus.
- 0:08Welcome to the show, brother.
- 0:09Hello, Bubba.
- 0:10Thank you for having me.
- 0:12It's it's my pleasure, man.
- 0:13Well, I mean, we know that you've risen from the dead.
- 0:16No.
- 0:16I'm just Why don't you go ahead why don't you go ahead and tell people a little bit about who
- 0:22you are and what it is you do, and, we'll get into, you know, what what the present and then
- 0:27the future hold.
- 0:29Yeah.
- 0:30I'm a singer and songwriter, going by Lazarus, was formerly going by I'm Lazarus and kinda
- 0:37going through a little bit of a brand change right now.
- 0:38That's why you may see conflicting things on the Internet.
- 0:41But, also, I'm multi instrumentalists, and I do a few other things.
- 0:46Like, I have a Ramones tribute band, and I do some backing musician work for certain
- 0:50musicians at times, which might be something we get into today.
- 0:53But, yeah, overall, just a singer songwriter at heart.
- 0:57That's awesome.
- 0:57And where are you from, Las?
- 0:59Minneapolis, Minnesota, Saint Paul, Minnesota, born and raised.
- 1:02I kinda bounced around the Twin Cities my whole life.
- 1:05Yeah.
- 1:05That's great.
- 1:06And we've definitely been expanding our, you know, our our influence into that area.
- 1:12Some good friends up there with the North Star original review.
- 1:15Yeah.
- 1:15I've been seeing that.
- 1:16Yeah.
- 1:16Yeah.
- 1:17Well and those guys are doing a great thing, and we're happy to really overlap.
- 1:21Shout out to AJ Stone there.
- 1:22Yeah.
- 1:23Yeah.
- 1:23Yeah.
- 1:24Always, man.
- 1:24Always.
- 1:25I've been very fortunate.
- 1:26So I live in South Dakota, and, we don't really I mean, Sioux Falls is a metro area.
- 1:31I'm about 90 outside of Sioux Falls, but it's nothing like the cities are.
- 1:35Right?
- 1:35So it's been nice for me to grow with a couple different communities.
- 1:39I'm also a member of the Midwest Country Music Organization.
- 1:42And it's so important in this age of the independent artists to have those communities.
- 1:48So you've been bouncing around.
- 1:49You've been in the cities for a long time.
- 1:51I'm gonna assume that you're fairly well connected with a community of artists and stuff
- 1:56up there as well then?
- 1:58Oh, yeah.
- 1:58Definitely.
- 1:59I mean, all throughout the years, there's been different kinda communities and groups that
- 2:03have come and gone.
- 2:04And, and right now, like you mentioned, like, North Star original review is kinda one of the
- 2:09big ones that's really putting on a lot of local music right now and a lot of new music,
- 2:13new artists, and and really helping to grow a community of of artists that weren't otherwise
- 2:18playing together now now getting to play together.
- 2:21And a lot of it has to do with the format of the shows.
- 2:23There'll be six, seven artists or bands on per showcase or per show.
- 2:28Well, and that's a huge thing because knowing as someone who's performing that day that at
- 2:32the very minimum, you're gonna play for those people, right Yeah.
- 2:36Regardless of whether crowd.
- 2:37And you're here to meet and mingle with with other artists, and that's going to advance your
- 2:41career.
- 2:42So I think that one thing that can kinda get lost with those type of shows is the the
- 2:47personal friendships that you're actually making with other artists as well as, you know,
- 2:52playing your music for a few new fans and and, you know, listeners that might be out there as
- 2:56well.
- 2:57Right.
- 2:59No.
- 2:59Exactly.
- 2:59I mean, you said it.
- 3:00And especially if you're maybe coming from out of town to play, which there have been, we've
- 3:05had a few out of town people come in to do a North Star show, and it's been pretty, you
- 3:09know, they've been pretty excited about it and happy with the results.
- 3:12Well, and that's gonna be me in April, buddy.
- 3:14So looking forward to coming out and
- 3:16I'll be there.
- 3:17Awesome, man.
- 3:18Yeah.
- 3:18Well and and that's kinda just the start.
- 3:20We all just met each other within the last six months.
- 3:23And and for you guys, it's been such a comeback.
- 3:26Like, Minneapolis, especially, but the whole state of Minnesota had a much different
- 3:31experience during 2019, '20 '20, '20 '20 '1 than we in South Dakota did.
- 3:36Like, we never really shut down.
- 3:38There was a period where it was up, but everything kinda went very moved very quickly.
- 3:42Right?
- 3:42Where Yeah.
- 3:43Oh, where and and speaking, and I'm not familiar with, you know, your personal
- 3:47experience, but what I've heard from all of my friends that were Minneapolis is that that time
- 3:51really sucked for y'all.
- 3:53You were locked in.
- 3:54Nobody was going anywhere.
- 3:55There was no music.
- 3:56There was nothing.
- 3:57So, really, what you're experiencing now is the reemergence of what was a thriving music scene
- 4:03there for I mean, since the eighties.
- 4:06Right?
- 4:07I mean, Prince built built a lot of this scene.
- 4:09Right?
- 4:09I mean, the scene was there, and Prince kind of, you know, launched from there and really
- 4:12gave it a lot of credence.
- 4:14But Minnesota, Minneapolis, especially, has always been known for a thriving music scene.
- 4:20And then to have that kind of taken away from not just the musician communities, but from the
- 4:25communities as a whole for years.
- 4:29Right?
- 4:30Like, it really did a number on you guys.
- 4:32A lot of venues I'm sure are closed that were opened five years ago.
- 4:36A lot of these, you know, the smaller places that you wouldn't you know, it's not a first
- 4:40half.
- 4:41Right?
- 4:41But it's it's supporting these artists that are in the beginning, a place like the Sherwood
- 4:45Lounge where I've been fortunate enough to play.
- 4:48A place like the Midway Saloon, we're very grateful to still have something like that.
- 4:53It's such a different experience, and it's been fun for me because I get to kind of be a part
- 5:01of that.
- 5:02Right?
- 5:03Where if it was all still established and was the kind of behemoth that it was, it would be
- 5:07much harder for a guy like me coming from well out of town.
- 5:11Right?
- 5:11I'm five, six hours away.
- 5:13Right.
- 5:13But to feel to feel at this point, especially, like, well, I am part of that scene.
- 5:18I may be a very small part of it.
- 5:20Right?
- 5:21But I've been accepted into it as an artist, as a podcaster and broadcaster of, you know, and a
- 5:27supporter of that.
- 5:27So, yeah, man, it's just, it's really, really awesome to see everybody coming back to see
- 5:32everybody coming back out, to see live music thriving again, and and
- 5:36Act from the dead, you should say.
- 5:39Yeah.
- 5:40In a lot of ways, Lazarus.
- 5:42Like, dude, no doubt.
- 5:44No doubt.
- 5:44I mean, it was dead for, what, two or three years, essentially.
- 5:47It was very strange.
- 5:48Yeah.
- 5:49It was a very strange time.
- 5:51And one good thing that I do remember specifically, and I think a lot of Minneapolis
- 5:55Musicians would remember this, and I don't know if this happened everywhere else, but we had a
- 5:59a really big live streaming community pop off right around that time.
- 6:04So actually a local musician musician, Smokin' Joe Scarpolino.
- 6:09I believe I said that right.
- 6:10Shout
- 6:10out to Smokin' Joe.
- 6:12Yeah.
- 6:12He he actually and he just played a North Star show not too long ago too.
- 6:16So he's kind of involved in the whole community.
- 6:18But I believe he was the one who started this, like, a Facebook group page where it was just
- 6:22like, hey.
- 6:23Here's a place to just broadcast your livestreams to maybe other people, other
- 6:27musicians, and we all kinda join in.
- 6:29Man, it really went off.
- 6:30It was like every single day musicians were finding like, we're doing different live
- 6:34streams, different combinations.
- 6:35And then it it kinda became about who could do the most creative live streams and, like, who
- 6:40could do the best high quality live streams.
- 6:41And as far as, like, like, live concert performances, like, from your house or from
- 6:46your garage or living room or whatever.
- 6:49So that was a interesting thing that came of that.
- 6:51And and it really kinda went away too, which is also pretty interesting.
- 6:54Like, not many people, like, really do that anymore where they just hop on and, like, hey.
- 6:58It's Friday night.
- 6:59I'm gonna livestream.
- 7:01Well, we're all busy playing in the bars again.
- 7:03Right.
- 7:04Yeah.
- 7:04I suppose so.
- 7:05That's that's true.
- 7:06Well and it was great for what it was.
- 7:09It was nice that we had the ability to go online and to build up these communities,
- 7:14communities that are still serving us.
- 7:16Right?
- 7:17I mean, some of these Facebook groups are still alive today, and maybe the live streaming has
- 7:20taken a little bit of a backseat, but the community is still there.
- 7:24And and I think a lot of probably the North Star Original Review gang, you know, were part
- 7:29of that community as well.
- 7:31I know I didn't really tap in and play a lot, but was part of that.
- 7:34I I was never, really taken off the gig the gig wheel.
- 7:39So we we didn't we didn't need to.
- 7:41Right?
- 7:42We didn't need to as much to dip into that.
- 7:44But I think that I mean, you have companies like NUGGS TV.
- 7:49You have live streaming services that are out there broadcasting larger scale concerts.
- 7:54I think a a evolution of what the scene projects is and teaming up with Northstar and,
- 8:00you know, Corey and AJ is to start figuring out how we can broadcast this to the livestream,
- 8:07right, whether it's, you know, through our website or through some other things or, you
- 8:11know, social media or YouTube page, whatever that is, I think where we're going is how do we
- 8:16now broadcast this these events, right, these weekly events?
- 8:20How do we start broadcasting these, not posthumously, but live in the moment, and doing
- 8:26that as well?
- 8:26I have recorded our songwriter showcase.
- 8:29We did one at the Midway Saloon back in December, and, you know, we recorded
- 8:33everything.
- 8:34Broadcast quality looks great.
- 8:35Right?
- 8:36So now we're just kinda going through the funding portion of it.
- 8:38How do we bring this to fruition?
- 8:40What what is it?
- 8:41Is it a, you know, a YouTube series?
- 8:44Because and that's that's kind of the next phase.
- 8:47Right?
- 8:47I'm trying to build a business, right, and to bring these artists and all of these people
- 8:53that work in music but necessarily don't do the business side of it.
- 8:58Well, how do we figure out sponsorships?
- 8:59How do we figure out some of these other things that make this world go around that places
- 9:05like, you know, MTV and these other things that were around when we were kids?
- 9:10How do we bring that back but our own thing?
- 9:12And what I've said about the scene projects especially is that, like, I wanna be Rolling
- 9:15Stone, MTV, VA.
- 9:17I wanna be all of that kind of bundled into one one thing.
- 9:21And, yeah, we'll see if we're able to bring that to fruition as this or if it's another
- 9:25project, but I think that's where we're going.
- 9:28And it seems very evident that it's it's not only needed, but it's wanted as well.
- 9:34Yeah.
- 9:34And maybe podcasts and interviews are all kinda wrapped up into it.
- 9:38And, there's a new local zine that just started around here called the tumbling rock, you know,
- 9:43like Rolling Stone, tumbling rock.
- 9:44But they're, you know, they're doing the local music scene as solid, and they're printing out,
- 9:48like, really high quality, like, write ups and graphics and, like you know, they only do,
- 9:53like, maybe a hundred or 200 copies right now, but it's pretty cool.
- 9:56And, like, everyone who sees one or gets one or gets involved is always really impressed by it.
- 10:00So maybe things like that too.
- 10:02And
- 10:03Yeah.
- 10:03And when you start going to print, the only thing is money.
- 10:06Right?
- 10:06It costs money.
- 10:07Right.
- 10:07It's easy for me to run the online zine.
- 10:09We do blog posts and reviews and q and a's on our website, and that's I had always had that
- 10:13dream of the, of the, you know, the print version of that.
- 10:18Because when I was coming up, you know, early odds, right, there was a magazine like that in
- 10:24every town.
- 10:25Right?
- 10:25Some Minneapolis probably had four of them.
- 10:28Right?
- 10:28Yeah.
- 10:28We and there are two for sure.
- 10:30There were two big ones, coming up that yeah.
- 10:32It was it was awesome, but there neither of them are around anymore.
- 10:35And, yeah, that's it's really, kind of a gap or a, you know, just sort of a void in the scene
- 10:40right now.
- 10:41But it's also I can see how it's due to the technology changing.
- 10:44We're, you know, increasingly in a paperless world.
- 10:47So I I get that.
- 10:48But there's just like like vinyl, you know, people still have nostalgia for this stuff.
- 10:52So I think people still like seeing a physical hard copy magazine.
- 10:55They can you know, just like the same way people like to buy physical media sometimes.
- 11:00Right.
- 11:00We want a visceral world.
- 11:02Right?
- 11:02Like and I think especially people who go out to live music or, you know, live musicians, you
- 11:07know, having a cover on that, right, where it you know, even if it's only 200 copies still
- 11:11feels pretty fucking cool.
- 11:13Right?
- 11:13Like, you know, be it on the local news even though I can call because they're so hurting
- 11:18for content and get on there anytime I want to, you know, even though it's kind of it's
- 11:23relatively easy for me to do now because I've established that relationship.
- 11:27It's still really cool getting to go in there.
- 11:29Right?
- 11:30It's still really cool seeing yourself on the screen and getting to put that out there.
- 11:33So, yeah, I I I hope that they're coming back.
- 11:36Right?
- 11:37And the financial side of it, the business side of that and that's, I guess, why I've put it on
- 11:41myself to kind of learn some of these models.
- 11:44Right?
- 11:45The there's there's education out there available.
- 11:48There's information available.
- 11:49It's just having people that are motivated enough by making it about everyone else and not
- 11:55necessarily about the money of it or about any of that or the cache or the celebrity of it.
- 12:00Right?
- 12:01But just that it needs to be done.
- 12:03And that was always the heart of the scene projects as a podcast was, you know, I went on
- 12:08and had I did a few of podcasts of my friends and was like, well, I have everything to do
- 12:12this at home.
- 12:13Why aren't I doing it?
- 12:14And I
- 12:15couldn't come up with a
- 12:16good answer.
- 12:17Right?
- 12:17So it was like, well, anything that you say now is an excuse then.
- 12:21So start getting on camera, start getting behind a microphone, which I've done my whole
- 12:26life, and just start having conversations.
- 12:28And and now look where it's grown to.
- 12:30Right?
- 12:31I'm getting to talk to Lazarus, and this is not possible without turning things around a little
- 12:36bit and saying, hey.
- 12:37What can I do to serve my community?
- 12:41And my community is artists, man, creative people like you and like AJ and especially, you
- 12:47know, people like that are doing it, right, the the North Star, that I wanna feed you as much
- 12:53as I can.
- 12:53Right?
- 12:54I wanna feed you, and I wanna feed off of you as well.
- 12:57So, yeah, I really love being tapped into the music scene in Minneapolis, and really good to
- 13:01see it coming back.
- 13:03It's it's been a long time.
- 13:04Yeah.
- 13:05Another guy I wanna thank too from North Star is, you mentioned him earlier, Corey Carlson.
- 13:09He's really the guy that actually introduced us, or he was the one that, that told me to
- 13:13reach out.
- 13:14And and then I reached out a while ago and, you know, like, thanks for getting me in kinda
- 13:18quick here.
- 13:19You know, I know you just got back to me recently, we were able to set something up
- 13:22quickly.
- 13:22So, yeah, it's good to finally connect now.
- 13:25Yeah.
- 13:26Well and and we're gonna keep on connecting because you are, you know, with a brand with a
- 13:30brand revamp.
- 13:32That means that you probably got some new music coming.
- 13:34You got things happening.
- 13:35So let's let's talk about your music, man.
- 13:37I mean Yeah.
- 13:39As everyone, I you don't need to pigeonhole yourself into a genre for me, but tell us a
- 13:44little bit of, you know, what your music is like and and what you got coming down the
- 13:48pipeline.
- 13:49Oh, yeah.
- 13:49It's it's actually getting easier to you know, it's hard at first to describe yourself, but
- 13:53it's getting easier because, it's very Beatles esque and specifically the Paul McCartney
- 13:58Beatles escorts, the poppy upbeat sort of jaunty ditties.
- 14:06You know?
- 14:07Just real fun stuff and and also a lot of, like, ragtime influences, for those who don't
- 14:14know that it like, that's like the entertainer on piano.
- 14:23Think Charlie Chaplin.
- 14:25Shit like that.
- 14:26Yeah.
- 14:26And so it's like so my stuff is kinda niche and specific like that, but also, you know, I'm
- 14:31just a songwriter across the board and, like, that that's just, like, kind of, like, a lot of
- 14:36my stuff tends to fall into because I like the real bouncy things.
- 14:39But I'm also yeah.
- 14:41I'm like, I have a lot of love for just pop music in general.
- 14:44Really any music that that catches my ear.
- 14:47I mean, it can be anything.
- 14:48And as far as new music, yeah, I mean, I'm currently working with Bryn Arnes of Flip who
- 14:54around Minnesota, you know, they're pretty well known here in in the metro and even some some
- 14:58ways across the country too.
- 15:00They had a little bit of a radio hit in the nineties, early '2 thousands.
- 15:05Anyway, we're recording constantly every day.
- 15:09We're writing and recording, not every day, but we as much as we can get together.
- 15:14And I've put out, I think, three songs with him in the last four months.
- 15:18Did a Christmas song in December, and we we're only releasing, like, alternate versions of my
- 15:26songs right now or just kinda b side stuff because we're recording some a side material
- 15:31with the hopes of doing something a little more with it.
- 15:33But I released three b sides in the last four months.
- 15:36And and then just just a few days ago, like, two or three days ago, I I took a real risk and
- 15:42I redid the Mickey Mouse theme song,
- 15:45the m s e k e y m o u s e.
- 15:48For anyone who's familiar with that, go ahead and head on over to well, you have to actually,
- 15:53it's it's not available everywhere.
- 15:55It's only on the Rocksteady Records either Bandcamp.
- 15:59But, yeah, it's really the only place you can get it right now, actually, because I'm we're
- 16:02I'm not going to Spotify with a bunch of this stuff, especially that one, because I'll get my
- 16:06ass sued into oblivion, I assume.
- 16:09And then and if it's not if that's not bad enough, the last line of the song, I
- 16:13specifically kinda take a jab at Kanye West.
- 16:15So I'm really just doubling down on the hate for this one, you know, like, as far as going
- 16:21after big entities.
- 16:23But
- 16:23Sometimes that's how you make it though, Laz.
- 16:25You gotta swing big, man.
- 16:27Punch out style.
- 16:28I redid it into l a z a r u s.
- 16:32Lazarus Lazarus Lazarus Lazarus Lazarus.
- 16:35You know?
- 16:35Nice.
- 16:36And go to the go to the Rock Steady Records Bandcamp.
- 16:39Just search Rock Steady Records.
- 16:41That's, like, currently the the record label I'm releasing stuff under.
- 16:45And you can get the song on Bandcamp, and that's really the only way right now.
- 16:49Because, you know, Spotify streaming, it's like, what does that actually do for artists?
- 16:52You know, if you, know Less
- 16:54and less by the day, lads.
- 16:56Less and less by the day.
- 16:58You can spare $34.
- 16:59You know?
- 17:00The track is yours on on Spotify ban or on fuck.
- 17:04Bandcamp.
- 17:04You see how programmed I am to say Spotify.
- 17:06Yeah.
- 17:06Hey, man.
- 17:07They they they know what they're doing.
- 17:09Right?
- 17:09And They copy those sons of bitches.
- 17:11Yeah.
- 17:11Well and we've been running into it now with the podcast world a little bit.
- 17:15Our songwriter showcase episodes, obviously, we're playing our music.
- 17:18Right?
- 17:19But, you know, the Spotify AI is just tagging and being like, oh, that's already over here,
- 17:23and we should be getting a penny for that song, and podcasts aren't for music.
- 17:27And I was like, look.
- 17:29It's not right.
- 17:29I'll put it on YouTube.
- 17:30YouTube's not hassling us.
- 17:32It's a
- 17:32live well, and it's live performances of people's songs.
- 17:36So we don't know the legalities.
- 17:38I know the the artists themselves aren't trying to sue us.
- 17:40Right?
- 17:41They were all in there.
- 17:41So if it's a matter of we just gotta sign, you know, dot some i's and cross some t's, then so
- 17:46be it.
- 17:46But, yeah, Spotify is, while, you know, our podcast is available there, and I'm, very, very
- 17:53happy to have that.
- 17:54I mean, monetarily, they're not doing anything for us.
- 17:57I got music in Spotify too, but I'm never pushing it really, you know, on Spotify.
- 18:01No.
- 18:02Well and and why why would you?
- 18:04You know what I mean?
- 18:05And especially as more and more comes out about it, not to turn this into a whole Spotify
- 18:09bashing session, but Oh.
- 18:11But, you know, they're they're benefiting from us bringing all of our people to their thing
- 18:17because we want you to listen to our song, and then they're feeding the artists that are, you
- 18:22know, United Artists, right, or whatever up to the top of that feed, and then those people are
- 18:26getting paid for the listener that you brought in.
- 18:28Why?
- 18:29Why why would I continue to drive people to your platform when you're doing almost next to
- 18:35nothing?
- 18:35Sounds like a nine to five job.
- 18:37Like, that's just making the boss money.
- 18:40Well and and that's the, you know, that's the model, and it's just it's getting worse and
- 18:44worse as they're getting more greedy.
- 18:46And, well, we used to make this.
- 18:48And, you know, I think it's gonna lead to some other apps and some other technology coming out
- 18:52that is artist centric and does have that.
- 18:55And maybe that thing's out there now.
- 18:57I we just haven't really you know, it hasn't been pushed up to the, you know, the the top of
- 19:01the cultural Mhmm.
- 19:03You know, the hive mind, if you will, yet.
- 19:06But I think that with everything that we're doing in podcasts like this and everything
- 19:11that's going on up there, like, that that's probably the next wave.
- 19:14Right?
- 19:14By the end of this year, we might know a little bit more about, you know, some of these
- 19:18companies that are out there because artists and a guy like Ari Hurstan, who's been at the
- 19:24top of the scene.
- 19:25I know he's a Midwest guy.
- 19:26He's gonna be a speaker at our, at our awards show, the Midwest Country Music Awards Show
- 19:30weekend.
- 19:32But, you know, he's been railing against this from day one.
- 19:35Oh, is that the guy with the hair?
- 19:36Yeah.
- 19:37He got a he's got curly fry.
- 19:38Yeah, man.
- 19:39Great guy.
- 19:40Gives out a ton of free content.
- 19:41I've worked with him in the past.
- 19:43Oh, yeah.
- 19:43God.
- 19:43It's been, like, fifteen years now.
- 19:46But it was, you know, something that he's been railing against, and you listen to that and
- 19:51you're just like, why would I even waste any time or money trying to do that?
- 19:55And one thing that he expresses is email addresses.
- 19:58You should be getting your people's email addresses.
- 20:00You should be selling your music direct to fan, and that's something another company like
- 20:05Indiepreneur is always pushing direct to fan marketing and running that.
- 20:09And I hope that, you know, this podcast and the conversations that I have, drive more people to
- 20:15use these things.
- 20:17Right?
- 20:17There there's a lot of money on the table out there.
- 20:20Build an audience.
- 20:21Start your own podcast.
- 20:22That's one thing I'm gonna tell everybody listening.
- 20:24Like, if you're an artist, you should have your own thing.
- 20:28It's not hard.
- 20:29It's literally a Zoom call.
- 20:30Right?
- 20:31Like, isn't hard.
- 20:33Yeah.
- 20:34But getting it moving, and that's really the focus of what we are doing as not as a podcast
- 20:40network is getting people off the sidelines.
- 20:42Right?
- 20:42And we're talking to business owners and different things like that as well, but it's
- 20:46really to try and to build a business platform so that we can assist and empower creators.
- 20:53Right?
- 20:53So we can come in at a lot lower price point and say, hey.
- 20:56This is how you're gonna get this little thing going for you, and then just keep doing it.
- 21:00And keep doing it, and it's gonna show dividends.
- 21:02Right?
- 21:02There's gonna be a return on your investment of your time.
- 21:05But, yeah, man.
- 21:07A more a more profitable return on that investment of your time to, like, you know, as
- 21:13opposed to, like, your Spotify model.
- 21:14You know?
- 21:15Yeah.
- 21:16You're not I mean, you could invest tens of thousands of dollars into Spotify promotions
- 21:20and not see anything.
- 21:22Yeah.
- 21:22Not see anything.
- 21:23So don't waste your money on Spotify promotions.
- 21:27Yeah.
- 21:28We will teach you.
- 21:28Follow a guy.
- 21:29Definitely go check out Ari Hurston's, the new music business.
- 21:33I do believe I read a bunch of his stuff over the years.
- 21:35Yeah.
- 21:35Books are great, man.
- 21:36I just get this inform I mean, these are the people that I went to.
- 21:40Right?
- 21:40And this is how, you know, people look to us in our community and look to me, especially, you
- 21:45know, like, how do I do this?
- 21:46How do I do this?
- 21:47It's like, man, I learned all this mostly from other people's experiences, not necessarily
- 21:52from my own.
- 21:53And then I've seen success from them in my own experience.
- 21:57So, yeah, we just keep building.
- 21:59I mean, our email list isn't huge, but we got 500 people on there that, you know, now I use
- 22:03the podcast as a reason to talk to them every day.
- 22:06I have daily podcast episodes coming out, so now I'm able to reach out
- 22:08to them.
- 22:09And my my songs are at the front and the back of our podcast.
- 22:13Right?
- 22:13And I think these are just things that, you know, most artists don't think of.
- 22:17Right?
- 22:18Is that you people are being introduced to you and your music through this other thing.
- 22:23And it's okay that you're just talking, and it's okay that maybe you're just talking about
- 22:27your dog.
- 22:28Right?
- 22:28Like, maybe you're just talking about your dog who's asleep at your feet.
- 22:31You got a bulldog or what?
- 22:32I can hear him snoring a little bit.
- 22:34I got two oh, okay.
- 22:35I was gonna ask if you could hear that.
- 22:36I'm so sorry.
- 22:37I didn't know.
- 22:37Oh, I got two pit bulls sleeping at my feet here.
- 22:40One of them sauntered off just a little bit, but the other one see, because the sun is
- 22:43coming in right now.
- 22:44It's like my favorite time of day is when the sun is hitting the floor right
- 22:47here.
- 22:47I love it.
- 22:48Yeah.
- 22:48Especially if you're apartment living or a small place.
- 22:50Right?
- 22:51You got that one spot that my cat sits in the same places, brother.
- 22:54And that's what's beautiful about getting to have these conversations, and especially for me
- 22:59who I'm so far away from anyone.
- 23:01My town is a thousand people.
- 23:03I'm ninety minutes from a town that has over 15,000 people, and then I'm five hours from
- 23:08anything that has over, you know, over 200,000 people.
- 23:12Right?
- 23:13So seconds away on a Zoom call.
- 23:15Exactly.
- 23:16And it's totally opened up my world to all of these different artists, and it's kinda
- 23:20starting with the Midwest and Minneapolis, but this thing's just gonna keep growing.
- 23:24And we're not even a year in.
- 23:25We're not even a year into doing this.
- 23:28So, yeah, encourage everyone.
- 23:30Get on a Zoom call.
- 23:31Start talking to your friends.
- 23:32Put that stuff on your YouTube channel.
- 23:34Don't be afraid of the word podcast.
- 23:37Don't think too hard about it.
- 23:39Just start having conversations with your friends and talking music, and and things can
- 23:43grow from there.
- 23:45But Right.
- 23:45It's a great it's the vessel.
- 23:47It is how it's done these days.
- 23:48So, yeah, with I'll get off my soapbox now.
- 23:51Laz
- 23:52I know.
- 23:52I mean, I'm on I'm right on that soapbox with you.
- 23:56Lazarus, why don't you go ahead and share, where everybody can find you, and I'll let you
- 24:00get out of here.
- 24:01Sure.
- 24:02Yeah.
- 24:02Like I as I mentioned, I was I'm rebranding, from I'm Lazarus, the letters I, the letters m.
- 24:08I'm Lazarus or I am Lazarus, however you wanna say that, because that was my cheeky joke.
- 24:13Because back in the day, you didn't DM somebody, you IM'd them an instant message.
- 24:18So the joke made sense then.
- 24:20But it's become too convoluted.
- 24:22Anyways, the point is I'm just going by Lazarus now, but you can still find all my music and
- 24:27all my social media at I'm I'm Lazarus music.
- 24:35I'm Lazarus music anywhere on the Internet.
- 24:38So that's me.
- 24:39Thank you.
- 24:40Awesome, brother.
- 24:41No.
- 24:41I I appreciate you.
- 24:42And, Lazarus, thanks for being part of the scene.
- 24:45Thank you.
- 24:45Thank you for having me.
