- 0:20Speaker 2: Welcome Alex whoever ordered four chairs for the studio?
- 0:23Speaker 3: I took that as oh, okay, they're threatened.
- 0:25Speaker 4: Fun and hard to write about just from a leg
- 0:27Speaker 4: because he had blood clots, Like how do you describe it?
- 0:30Speaker 5: Every day in blo observation. So it was like, you know,
- 0:32Speaker 5: Christian bomber parents. The blood clocks not the same as ankle.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Paul and I want to tune into some good old
- 0:37Speaker 2: fashioned rivers have tide level arguments, not a bunch of boomers.
- 0:41Speaker 4: I am not a boomer, God damn it, nor am I?
- 0:44Speaker 3: What's cackase, Mike, Alex?
- 0:47Speaker 4: It goes the way of a clock.
- 0:49Speaker 3: I haven't never I used my phone, boomer.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I look at my phone.
- 1:00Speaker 4: I did.
- 1:01Speaker 6: I did for a long time.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Somebody was it the horn?
- 1:08Speaker 2: The Horner fertility? All right, we gotta hurry. This is

- 1:19Speaker 2: All right, Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday, and
- 1:24Speaker 2: a victory Tuesday at that. We are here for the
- 1:28Speaker 2: next two hours. On Patriots Unfiltered. It's Deuce, it's Evan,
- 1:31Speaker 2: it's Paul, it's Fred, It's Matt and the Booth. We're
- 1:34Speaker 2: coming to you live from Gillette Stadium. And boy, what
- 1:39Speaker 2: a week. Huh. I am so psyched.
- 1:42Speaker 5: This is me handing Fred his flowers.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Well, now listen, listen. You know you nailed it.
- 1:49Speaker 6: Why are you doing that?
- 1:50Speaker 2: Well, you know what nailed it? On Patriots dot com.
- 1:52Speaker 2: We didn't Madden SIM before the game. Do you know
- 1:55Speaker 2: what the score was after that sim?
- 1:57Speaker 6: Sixteen to ten?
- 1:58Speaker 2: Seventeen to ten, Patriots win one point one. That was
- 2:03Speaker 2: pretty good. We're gonna do that again this week. I
- 2:07Speaker 2: can't wait to find out how close they get this week.
- 2:10Speaker 5: But I'm being serious. Fred had one of his premonitions
- 2:20Speaker 5: where he felt like not only a lot of people
- 2:23Speaker 5: thought the game could be close, and I would put
- 2:25Speaker 5: myself in that category. I thought the Bengals would pull
- 2:28Speaker 5: away late. Yeah, but you didn't think the game would
- 2:31Speaker 5: be close. You thought the Patriots would win it. And
- 2:33Speaker 5: I didn't really see a lot of people pick picking yet.
- 2:36Speaker 2: But you know, listen, it was an upset you know who. Yeah,
- 2:42Speaker 2: And but if you thought there was a way for
- 2:44Speaker 2: the Patriots to win this game, this was exactly the blueprint.
- 2:48Speaker 2: This was exactly the blueprint. Run the ball, play good defense,
- 2:52Speaker 2: don't make a lot of mistakes, don't turn the ball over.
- 2:55Speaker 2: That's exactly what hope the other team does. And that's
- 2:59Speaker 2: the exactly what happened if they were gonna win this game.
- 3:03Speaker 2: But listen, I am so proud of them. And I
- 3:06Speaker 2: know Paul always last when I say that, why are
- 3:08Speaker 2: you proud? But but I really am. I mean, like,
- 3:13Speaker 2: you know, a lot of things could have gone bad
- 3:16Speaker 2: based on last year and what we saw so far
- 3:19Speaker 2: in summer, and they were able to play, you know,
- 3:23Speaker 2: not a completely perfect game, but pretty close, pretty close.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Like when they had to make the stop at the end,
- 3:30Speaker 2: they did. When they had to keep possession at the
- 3:32Speaker 2: end they did. They had clutch play. I mean, how
- 3:36Speaker 2: big a play was that that punch out of Burrow
- 3:41Speaker 2: not Burrow but at the.
- 3:42Speaker 3: End Tanner Hudson, Tanner Hudson.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Close to the goal line. To me, that was the game.
- 3:46Speaker 2: That was that was the turning point of the game.
- 3:49Speaker 6: That was a big turning point.
- 3:50Speaker 5: But I think it was pretty close to perfect that
- 3:54Speaker 5: very few penalties, no turnovers, I mean they flirted with them,
- 3:58Speaker 5: but no turnovers, ran the ball really well, played exceptional
- 4:03Speaker 5: defense really for the full sixty minutes.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I mean what they did to Burrow with the different
- 4:08Speaker 2: looks and everything and moving key On White around the line.
- 4:12Speaker 2: You know, Burrow is an elite quarterback in this league,
- 4:15Speaker 2: and he looked flustered. Yep, And he did look flustered.
- 4:19Speaker 2: And I give credit to you know, Covington and the
- 4:22Speaker 2: defensive coaches and the players for making that happen.
- 4:26Speaker 5: For those guys, I thought they did did a great
- 4:28Speaker 5: job of I think confusing Burrow a little bit and
- 4:31Speaker 5: frustrating Jamar Chase.
- 4:34Speaker 2: You know, so how they won this game. It's a
- 4:37Speaker 2: tough way to live. You know, they're gonna mat They're
- 4:41Speaker 2: gonna meet other teams.
- 4:42Speaker 6: More of a Wednesday.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Yeah, Listen, They're gonna meet other teams that are gonna
- 4:46Speaker 2: probably put up more of a fight. But listen, what
- 4:50Speaker 2: a way to start the season for this this regime. Yeah.
- 4:54Speaker 4: On the postgame show, I was trying to figure out
- 4:57Speaker 4: biggest win since when and I came up with twenty
- 5:00Speaker 4: twenty two against the Lions when they shut out the Lions.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Good Lions team, but really since then, I mean it
- 5:06Speaker 4: was even when.
- 5:07Speaker 3: You win game probably yeah, a good win.
- 5:09Speaker 4: Well it's twenty twenty one, yeah, twenty twenty two.
- 5:12Speaker 5: I mean, Paul, you had one what was the one
- 5:14Speaker 5: end of twenty twenty two. Well, I just said, like
- 5:18Speaker 5: the Buffalo game last year, the buffet was because of
- 5:21Speaker 5: the way mac Jones had never really come from behind.
- 5:23Speaker 5: But even then I was better because they were two
- 5:26Speaker 5: and five. Yeah, like, I know, you too thought there
- 5:29Speaker 5: was a path, but most people at two and five
- 5:31Speaker 5: had already sort of resigned themselves to the sea, so
- 5:34Speaker 5: there wasn't as much excitement at that win as this
- 5:37Speaker 5: one has elicited.
- 5:39Speaker 6: Yeah, and with good reason.
- 5:40Speaker 2: That was.
- 5:42Speaker 6: Fred.
- 5:42Speaker 5: I don't know, you listened to the post game show
- 5:44Speaker 5: all the time, right, We basically had an hour and
- 5:47Speaker 5: forty five minutes of the good list.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Yeah, you know what was on.
- 5:50Speaker 5: My bad list? And this is the only thing that
- 5:54Speaker 5: made it. What's that Dell Pettis jumping off side on
- 5:57Speaker 5: the opening kick. Yeah, for the illegal formation.
- 5:59Speaker 3: The only thing that made it.
- 6:00Speaker 6: The only thing that was on my bad list.
- 6:02Speaker 4: I'm surprised we got to the red zone later.
- 6:04Speaker 5: I didn't have extremely objective, I know, but I know
- 6:08Speaker 5: when when they take it and they go out there again,
- 6:11Speaker 5: I understand. It wasn't like the coaches are going to
- 6:14Speaker 5: watch the film and they only like chooks the corps
- 6:16Speaker 5: for sure, a little bit like I know that there
- 6:18Speaker 5: were mistakes, but for sixty minutes, they played the game
- 6:22Speaker 5: the way they wanted to play it and made Cincinnati
- 6:25Speaker 5: look awfully bad.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the fans that were booing.
- 6:29Speaker 6: What am I gonna what am I gonna nitpick on?
- 6:31Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, there's there's things for sure, And we'll
- 6:35Speaker 5: talk about him as the as our hour and fifty
- 6:37Speaker 5: five goes by.
- 6:38Speaker 4: But I have a list.
- 6:39Speaker 6: Well, I'll let the prince of pessimism take over the.
- 6:43Speaker 4: Well, let's give Ramondre some love, though too not to
- 6:45Speaker 4: be in that role for change, I'm happy, okay. I
- 6:47Speaker 4: mean Ramondre Stevenson was just outstanding. I mean, you know,
- 6:51Speaker 4: to be able to because I remember Top paul I
- 6:53Speaker 4: had mentioned like the stat where the Browns had run
- 6:55Speaker 4: the ball a lot, and you know, I think pointed
- 6:57Speaker 4: out like sometimes that's just a function of how the
- 6:59Speaker 4: game goes, they still ran in thirty nine times and
- 7:02Speaker 4: they were they ran the ball to win at the end.
- 7:04Speaker 4: I mean, it didn't, you know, come down to them
- 7:06Speaker 4: having to make you know, they did. Jacoby did make
- 7:08Speaker 4: a couple of throws down there in the fourth quarter,
- 7:09Speaker 4: but you know, really it was Remandre that stealed the game.
- 7:12Speaker 5: And just Y, you know, this was you a thing
- 7:14Speaker 5: for sixty minutes. They ran it early, they ran in
- 7:17Speaker 5: the middle, and then they ran.
- 7:20Speaker 2: And they knew they were going to have to run
- 7:22Speaker 2: the Bengals and they still were able to do it.
- 7:24Speaker 2: But we talked about like who on this team is
- 7:27Speaker 2: like a star? Who's this? Who's this on this team
- 7:29Speaker 2: can like make plays? Who could be a playmaker? And
- 7:33Speaker 2: you saw in Stevenson get hit more more than probably
- 7:38Speaker 2: fifty percent of the time. First contact was at or
- 7:41Speaker 2: behind the line of scrimmage and no one guy was
- 7:43Speaker 2: going to bring him down. And that's a big deal.
- 7:51Speaker 2: But they need this team and every team, but this
- 7:54Speaker 2: team needs those types of players, guys who can make plays.
- 7:59Speaker 2: We didn't know owing to the season who they would be.
- 8:02Speaker 2: We got a little linkling that Remandra is one of
- 8:05Speaker 2: those guys.
- 8:06Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean and I think, yeah, I think he
- 8:07Speaker 4: knew he was good. I just I think that's ideal
- 8:10Speaker 4: Ramandra Stevenson game where he's well balanced, he's kind of
- 8:13Speaker 4: the bell cow back, and he's healthy and he's running well.
- 8:16Speaker 4: And you know, I was just a little surprised, and
- 8:18Speaker 4: maybe Antonio Gibson was hurt, but just there was big
- 8:21Speaker 4: drop off.
- 8:21Speaker 7: You know.
- 8:22Speaker 4: I felt like when they went to Gibson, it was
- 8:23Speaker 4: you know, I think the numbers that.
- 8:25Speaker 5: Gave so much credit to Stevenson because I just felt
- 8:27Speaker 5: like the other guy ran it.
- 8:28Speaker 4: It wasn't the same.
- 8:30Speaker 5: And I mean, I am curious to get to your
- 8:33Speaker 5: your negatives because I really didn't find a lot of them.
- 8:38Speaker 5: But with Stevenson, I think we knew like that he
- 8:42Speaker 5: could do that. Like Mike said, what I learned a
- 8:44Speaker 5: little bit is preset mobility. Wise, I don't think he
- 8:49Speaker 5: I didn't think he really had any mobility, and I
- 8:51Speaker 5: thought his ability to get out of the pocket and
- 8:53Speaker 5: avoid sacks was a huge part of the first half.
- 8:55Speaker 2: It was true there were a couple of times where
- 8:57Speaker 2: he was dead to right.
- 8:58Speaker 5: I didn't know he had that that kind of ability
- 9:00Speaker 5: to consistently avoid sacks and move the chains, and I
- 9:04Speaker 5: think that was a big part of the eighty yard
- 9:06Speaker 5: touchdown driving.
- 9:07Speaker 6: It was a big part of the field goal drive
- 9:08Speaker 6: at the end of the half.
- 9:09Speaker 2: And you know, before we get to Evans' list.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Waiting the.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Defense, I just thought, there's speed to the ball. You
- 9:18Speaker 2: know how they got downhill because there was a moment
- 9:21Speaker 2: there where you saw Burrows starting to heat up. You know,
- 9:24Speaker 2: second half they started quick drop, quick pass. He started
- 9:28Speaker 2: to find a little bit of a rhythm.
- 9:30Speaker 5: But even had five straight drives where they looked like themselves,
- 9:35Speaker 5: but they only scored on two of them.
- 9:36Speaker 2: But even so, you know, even with those quick passes
- 9:39Speaker 2: that they were completing, there wasn't a lot of yards
- 9:41Speaker 2: after catch. You know, Chase started to get open a
- 9:45Speaker 2: little bit, but they were always around the ball, always
- 9:48Speaker 2: going downhill. The tackling was I think I had a
- 9:53Speaker 2: really good game obviously, you know key on White spin.
- 9:58Speaker 5: By it was really you know, so the fourth down
- 10:01Speaker 5: play by Jonathan Jones, Yeah, so like good stuff.
- 10:06Speaker 2: We were and again, this is one game, so we
- 10:08Speaker 2: have to couch it that way. But I was worried about,
- 10:12Speaker 2: you know, the carryover from last year to this year
- 10:14Speaker 2: with the defense you're losing Bill Belichick, You're losing Steve Belichick.
- 10:18Speaker 2: That's a loss. Would they be able to keep up
- 10:20Speaker 2: that toughness and that mentality and so far.
- 10:26Speaker 5: They did the versatility like I wasn't like what they
- 10:29Speaker 5: and again, you know, I'm let's get to Evan because
- 10:33Speaker 5: the quarters the quarter stuff, like you know, and Mike
- 10:36Speaker 5: and I talked about this a lot in the post game.
- 10:38Speaker 5: With with the zones, I think it really did kind
- 10:40Speaker 5: of it forced well it shouldn't have forced him, but
- 10:44Speaker 5: it caused Burrow to consistently just check it down like
- 10:49Speaker 5: he's not gonna I'm not gonna get it downfield, so
- 10:51Speaker 5: I'm not even gonna try. I think he tried one
- 10:52Speaker 5: ball downfield the whole game, and I thought that played
- 10:56Speaker 5: right into the Patriots hands. Defensively. I give DeMarcus Covington
- 11:00Speaker 5: a lot of credit for that. Now, they always say
- 11:03Speaker 5: those guys got to go out between the lines and execute,
- 11:05Speaker 5: and they did at a very highlight. What did you say,
- 11:07Speaker 5: having three miss tackles the whole game. Yeahah, so we
- 11:10Speaker 5: talked about that. We had to call it. I kind
- 11:12Speaker 5: of disagreed with how good the tackling was because I
- 11:16Speaker 5: thought that the Patriots were really on point.
- 11:19Speaker 6: Now a lot of them it was just because they
- 11:20Speaker 6: were in the right position.
- 11:21Speaker 5: So they're hitting guys with their back to the to
- 11:24Speaker 5: the contact right as they're catching the ball.
- 11:27Speaker 6: Bang they're wrapped up.
- 11:28Speaker 5: Yeah, you know Marcus Jones, as a guy's cutting across
- 11:30Speaker 5: the field with a guy on them, it's coming in
- 11:32Speaker 5: and taking the guy's legs out. Just numbers layers of
- 11:36Speaker 5: guys in position to make plays.
- 11:38Speaker 4: And it's so easy to draw the line from that
- 11:40Speaker 4: to the camp that Jirameo put on in his first
- 11:42Speaker 4: training camp. And I think, you know, that's the biggest
- 11:44Speaker 4: thing for me. I said on the pregame InPost game show,
- 11:46Speaker 4: you know, when you can get a win at this
- 11:47Speaker 4: stage of a rebuild, it's just it's worth so much
- 11:50Speaker 4: because you get more players to buy in. They say, geez,
- 11:53Speaker 4: you know that camp was tough. We were run a
- 11:54Speaker 4: lot of hills, but you know what it paid off
- 11:56Speaker 4: here in sincey we won a game because of it,
- 11:58Speaker 4: I'm going to listen to what this coach is selling
- 12:00Speaker 4: even more now. And they just played with a chip
- 12:02Speaker 4: on their shoulder and I feel like, you know, old
- 12:04Speaker 4: Patriots teams kind of played with a fake chip on
- 12:05Speaker 4: their shoulder, like nobody believes in us, even though we
- 12:07Speaker 4: were fourteen to two last year. This one, this is
- 12:10Speaker 4: a team no one believes in us, and they really
- 12:11Speaker 4: played like it.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, we forget that when Gerard was
- 12:17Speaker 2: a player, he was a film junkie. They used to
- 12:20Speaker 2: call him Mini Bill, like you know, it was all
- 12:23Speaker 2: about the preparation and studying tendencies and all that stuff,
- 12:27Speaker 2: and you wonder, Okay, how is he going to be
- 12:29Speaker 2: a coach? Is he going to get them prepared like
- 12:32Speaker 2: Bill used to get them prepared. The jury is still out, obviously,
- 12:35Speaker 2: but I heard a couple of players say a lot
- 12:38Speaker 2: of the things we talked about we would see, we saw,
- 12:41Speaker 2: so there was indications that, you know, they were well prepared.
- 12:46Speaker 4: So listen, yeah, all three phases.
- 12:49Speaker 2: I mean, season could end today, I'd be I mean,
- 12:51Speaker 2: let's let's go. Yeah, and the Jets lost. We'll get
- 12:54Speaker 2: into the rest of the league later. But great weekend,
- 12:57Speaker 2: great weekend.
- 12:58Speaker 4: And just the special teams too, like everybody was contributing.
- 13:01Speaker 4: I mean it was good punts by Bearinger. I mean,
- 13:04Speaker 4: you've got Captain Joe Cardona forcing a turnover like that's
- 13:07Speaker 4: never happened before. Schooler getting down the field, you know,
- 13:11Speaker 4: just a number of plays. It was just such a
- 13:13Speaker 4: complimentary game. And you know, I think the hard part,
- 13:15Speaker 4: which kind of we're hinting at, is just that it's
- 13:18Speaker 4: again it's everything was perfect. So, yeah, you were able
- 13:20Speaker 4: to squeak out a sixteen to ten win with everything
- 13:23Speaker 4: going perfect, and you're gonna have to win.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Well, it wasn't you know. Listen, I want to steal
- 13:28Speaker 2: your thunder. Well, we'll get to The offense still has issues.
- 13:31Speaker 2: I mean, they ran the ball great.
- 13:33Speaker 4: The offense has issues.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Yeah, the offense still I mean, you know, they scored
- 13:36Speaker 2: sixteen points. Let's not forget. You know, that's not gonna
- 13:39Speaker 2: do it every week. So but in is week one,
- 13:42Speaker 2: and I'm assuming that I'm hoping that it gets a
- 13:45Speaker 2: little better week by week as Polk gets his legs
- 13:49Speaker 2: under him. Baker didn't play for whatever reason, and we
- 13:54Speaker 2: see improvement in the in the offense, but it does
- 13:57Speaker 2: need to improve. They're not gonna be able to win
- 13:59Speaker 2: every week the way they won last week.
- 14:02Speaker 3: All Right, I'll hand out three gold stars on the
- 14:04Speaker 3: positive side, right, Okay, because I don't know, don't you know,
- 14:10Speaker 3: all right, gold Star number one goes to de Marcus Covington.
- 14:14Speaker 3: I really felt like, you look at that last drive
- 14:17Speaker 3: for the Bengals, Burrow is seeing ghosts, like he had
- 14:21Speaker 3: no idea where to go with the ball. They took
- 14:23Speaker 3: away the middle of the field. It seemed pretty obvious
- 14:25Speaker 3: to me he doesn't want to drive the ball outside
- 14:27Speaker 3: the numbers. Maybe it's the wrist injury or something still
- 14:30Speaker 3: in his head about that, and he doesn't want to
- 14:33Speaker 3: drive it out there. So they were closing the middle
- 14:34Speaker 3: of the field and he was you know whenever you
- 14:37Speaker 3: see a quarterback like in his stance and then all
- 14:39Speaker 3: of a sudden his feet just start to like kind
- 14:42Speaker 3: of go happy underneath them, like where am I going right?
- 14:46Speaker 3: And that's what they had him doing late in that game.
- 14:48Speaker 3: And the disguising on the back end was a big
- 14:51Speaker 3: part of it. And you see these interchangeable safeties Peppers
- 14:54Speaker 3: and Dugger. They can both do a little bit of everything,
- 14:57Speaker 3: so now you don't always have to him mccordy in
- 15:00Speaker 3: the deep middle and hung on the tight end, and
- 15:02Speaker 3: now you can really disguise it that. I thought they
- 15:05Speaker 3: were fantastic defensively. Hash to the Football uh, well structured.
- 15:10Speaker 3: There was hardly any coverage bus I think there was
- 15:13Speaker 3: one on the backside of a play that I counted
- 15:16Speaker 3: the entire game. Just extremely impressive defensively obviously Remandre just
- 15:21Speaker 3: unreal and total yeah, total beast mode ten for Smiths
- 15:26Speaker 3: tackles in that game one hundred and eighteen. After contact,
- 15:31Speaker 3: I mean he was just.
- 15:33Speaker 4: Like, yeah, so many little like just a little like
- 15:36Speaker 4: turn his body and shift and I mean you're talking
- 15:38Speaker 4: about Paul.
- 15:39Speaker 2: He just looked lighter and more.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Yeah, he likes to almost like slalom where like he's
- 15:45Speaker 3: just kind of like bouncing back and forth with those
- 15:47Speaker 3: jump cuts and uh. He he was excellent. And uh,
- 15:50Speaker 3: I'll give Jacobe Brisset credit for managing the game. I
- 15:53Speaker 3: thought that there was a lot of pressure on the
- 15:55Speaker 3: quarterback and uh he did a good job of not
- 15:58Speaker 3: allowing it to become atastrophic. And you know, Drod Mayo
- 16:02Speaker 3: talks a lot about keeping the plane from you know,
- 16:04Speaker 3: pulling the nose up of the plane. It felt like
- 16:06Speaker 3: Jacoby Brissett did that quite a bit in this game,
- 16:09Speaker 3: where other quarterbacks Mac Jones might have just you know,
- 16:13Speaker 3: completely cratered under the pressure. Jacoby at least kept his
- 16:16Speaker 3: head about him and it didn't have any catastrophican.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Question for you on the pressure, yeah, because we went
- 16:22Speaker 2: into the game saying, you know, if we're the other
- 16:24Speaker 2: team's defensive coordinator, whether it's Drake may or Jacoby Brissett,
- 16:28Speaker 2: we're gonna test that we're gonna put pressure on him.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Was I know that the stats say that he had
- 16:33Speaker 2: at least fifty percent pressure Yeah, on every you know
- 16:36Speaker 2: over the get course of the game. Was that pressure
- 16:39Speaker 2: just generated with four man or were there blitzes? How
- 16:43Speaker 2: often did they blitz.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Yeah, so they ran a lot of creepers, which are
- 16:46Speaker 3: four man pressures, but they are not bringing the four
- 16:49Speaker 3: you're expecting them to bring. Right, So you have four
- 16:52Speaker 3: guys up on the line of scrimmage. They usually were
- 16:54Speaker 3: dropping Hubbard or a defensive end he drops into coverage,
- 16:58Speaker 3: and then a linebacker blitzes up the middle, or safety
- 17:01Speaker 3: blitzes or something along those lines. So the Patriots allowed
- 17:04Speaker 3: four unblocked pressures or free runners to the quarterback. That's
- 17:08Speaker 3: that's for too many. Like you have to make sure,
- 17:10Speaker 3: especially in the A and the B gaps, you have
- 17:12Speaker 3: to have that protect.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Communication is still a little bit of an issue on
- 17:16Speaker 2: the line.
- 17:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:17Speaker 3: I mean, look, you have a rookie at right guard,
- 17:19Speaker 3: you have a guy up from the practice squad at
- 17:21Speaker 3: left guard. So when I was watching the film back,
- 17:24Speaker 3: you know, there were a couple of times where they
- 17:26Speaker 3: allowed somebody through the right a gap over you know,
- 17:30Speaker 3: Robinson and Andrews, and I'm thinking to myself, well, David
- 17:32Speaker 3: Andrews is probably right, Like whatever he's doing is probably right.
- 17:37Speaker 3: So I don't I hate to pin at all on
- 17:39Speaker 3: the rookie, but there was at least two or three
- 17:42Speaker 3: times where I felt like Leaden Robinson was helping to
- 17:45Speaker 3: anuenu almost not blocking anybody, and then they were letting
- 17:49Speaker 3: somebody free up the middle. There was one in particular
- 17:51Speaker 3: they had Pop Douglas on like a little pick wheel
- 17:54Speaker 3: that would have been a huge play, and they just
- 17:56Speaker 3: let somebody right through the middle of the line of
- 17:58Speaker 3: scrimmage unblocked. And you just can't have those.
- 18:01Speaker 2: I wanted.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Can I give some flowers to kem White, because I
- 18:03Speaker 4: know I was a little critical of him this summer
- 18:04Speaker 4: but people you about it too. No, No, and I
- 18:07Speaker 4: appreciate that. I appreciate that, But I mean I would
- 18:09Speaker 4: just say to that point too, is like there's so
- 18:11Speaker 4: much going on during training camp that like, if I
- 18:14Speaker 4: haven't seen something, I'm not going to just jump on
- 18:16Speaker 4: the train because other people were tweeting it. I'm just
- 18:18Speaker 4: going to tell you I haven't seen it yet. And
- 18:19Speaker 4: it's not because I had anything against Kem White, but
- 18:22Speaker 4: I just thought he was, you know, really really violent
- 18:24Speaker 4: inside and I like that. I think that's what they
- 18:26Speaker 4: need without bar more. He came from a few different angles.
- 18:29Speaker 4: I thought the rush was, as Evan said, just coordinated,
- 18:32Speaker 4: you know, the stunts that they were doing, those kind
- 18:34Speaker 4: of things. It was everybody was staying in the right spot.
- 18:36Speaker 4: And you know, I think the last one he kind of,
- 18:38Speaker 4: you know, was just holding this guy up and Burrow
- 18:40Speaker 4: kind of ran right.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Into Trent Brown.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Oh, just hands gone.
- 18:45Speaker 5: So one of the three set because he was involved
- 18:48Speaker 5: in all three sacks, and one of them was unbelievably impressive.
- 18:51Speaker 4: The other two the guard one.
- 18:53Speaker 5: I know Mike has taking a lot of heat for it,
- 18:56Speaker 5: but like, okay, yeah, like it had a good game.
- 18:59Speaker 5: I would take the heat if you said no, he
- 19:02Speaker 5: didn't have a good game, Like that's just being stubborn, right,
- 19:05Speaker 5: But like what Mike saw before. That is different than
- 19:08Speaker 5: what other people have seen.
- 19:09Speaker 4: So yeah, let's.
- 19:11Speaker 6: See what happens going forward. On Sunday, he was really good, just.
- 19:14Speaker 4: Without Judahn and Barmore. You need a guy who makes
- 19:17Speaker 4: a difference up front, and you know he's different than
- 19:19Speaker 4: those two players, and he'll be used in a different way,
- 19:22Speaker 4: but he's effective. And I just like that he's playing
- 19:25Speaker 4: up to his face if that makes sense, Like he's
- 19:26Speaker 4: playing like he looks right now, like he's playing mean
- 19:29Speaker 4: and angry and you know, I mean, and it goes
- 19:31Speaker 4: back to the summer when he goes against guards all
- 19:34Speaker 4: of a sudden, it's a huge missmatch. I mean, you know,
- 19:36Speaker 4: the Brown play was kind of unique to me with
- 19:38Speaker 4: him because you haven't seen a lot of that. Like
- 19:40Speaker 4: it's usually just him put his head down, try to
- 19:42Speaker 4: run my through guys, but he no, you're not gonna
- 19:46Speaker 4: do it. But you know, it showed a little bit
- 19:47Speaker 4: of growing savvy from him. And he's a critical player
- 19:51Speaker 4: if they're going to continue to post a child with
- 19:53Speaker 4: Cincinnati in that.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Game, And did you know, did you see White's fit
- 19:57Speaker 2: after the game?
- 19:58Speaker 4: I did?
- 19:58Speaker 2: He looked.
- 19:59Speaker 4: I mean it always bringing it in the game.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Man.
- 20:01Speaker 4: After the game. I don't know.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Yeah, in the lock chains, well, you know, when he
- 20:04Speaker 3: came to the post.
- 20:05Speaker 4: He's always got he's always got cool being unhipped, he
- 20:10Speaker 4: marches to his own drummer. I appreciate it, Yeah, I did.
- 20:13Speaker 3: I did like the sack on Trent Brown because of
- 20:15Speaker 3: the exact reason you said, that's some skill, you know,
- 20:17Speaker 3: double swipe move, And it wasn't just a bull rush
- 20:21Speaker 3: where he's just kind of putting his head down and
- 20:23Speaker 3: running through the.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Brown just bent over because no, not again.
- 20:28Speaker 3: And it was from the edge too, from stand up,
- 20:30Speaker 3: from where he says he needs to so that all
- 20:33Speaker 3: summer long, he's been working on those types of moves.
- 20:36Speaker 4: That was a week one that play.
- 20:38Speaker 5: Can I ask you, as you're going to segue into
- 20:41Speaker 5: your to your reasons, why all the things you think
- 20:45Speaker 5: are good really as good as you think that When
- 20:49Speaker 5: Cincinnati did finally get their offens in gear late in
- 20:52Speaker 5: the first half into the second half, they kind of
- 20:55Speaker 5: started to run.
- 20:55Speaker 2: The ball a little bit.
- 20:56Speaker 5: Did you see guys liked key On y in a
- 21:00Speaker 5: quality maybe getting targeted in the run game at all.
- 21:03Speaker 3: A little bit, And Bentley honestly was at the point
- 21:05Speaker 3: of attack at the big sixteen yarder that they had
- 21:08Speaker 3: from Zack Moss. But I think the big thing was
- 21:10Speaker 3: is that they were playing those two deep safeties and
- 21:13Speaker 3: they were just daring the Bengals to run the ball,
- 21:15Speaker 3: like if you want to take the game out of
- 21:17Speaker 3: Burrows hands, and like, go right ahead and run the
- 21:19Speaker 3: ball with Zack Moss, and it was a Chase Brown
- 21:22Speaker 3: right as their backup. You know, we'll live with that.
- 21:24Speaker 3: And eventually the Bengals finally succumbed and said, okay, well
- 21:27Speaker 3: we'll run it. They ran a couple of them off
- 21:29Speaker 3: our pos too, which seemed to take some of the
- 21:31Speaker 3: numbers out of the box for the Patriots. But the
- 21:34Speaker 3: biggest thing was, yeah, those those interior guys weren't getting
- 21:36Speaker 3: off blocks a little bit.
- 21:38Speaker 5: The reason I brought it up was because Mike and
- 21:39Speaker 5: I Will you know, we watch, you know obviously on TV,
- 21:42Speaker 5: and Charles Davis, I think was the color commentator with
- 21:45Speaker 5: Iron Eagle.
- 21:46Speaker 4: Yeah, and he.
- 21:48Speaker 5: Had mentioned for the first time of the game it
- 21:50Speaker 5: was like the third quarter touchdown drive. For the first time,
- 21:54Speaker 5: he felt like Cincinnati had gained control of the line
- 21:56Speaker 5: of scrimmage. The Patriots had thorough control of the line
- 22:00Speaker 5: from the outset and then he had said, finally, Cincinnati
- 22:04Speaker 5: is is pushed back. That's why I wanted to see
- 22:07Speaker 5: how you you know, if you were seeing it the
- 22:08Speaker 5: same way. And yep, because they are a little smaller,
- 22:12Speaker 5: you know, like a quality is not one of those
- 22:14Speaker 5: three hundred and twenty pound run stuffers.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Yeah. You know, what did you think about the whole
- 22:18Speaker 2: conditioning thing that the Patriots you know, were just in
- 22:22Speaker 2: better shape at the end of the game. Do you
- 22:24Speaker 2: think that's more.
- 22:25Speaker 4: Just that I mean they made the plays at the end.
- 22:27Speaker 4: I don't. I mean I struggled to like connect it
- 22:29Speaker 4: directly to and because Romander still had some bursts at
- 22:31Speaker 4: the you know, like hard to say that, but who
- 22:33Speaker 4: made the plays at the end? The Patriots did on
- 22:35Speaker 4: both sides of the ball.
- 22:36Speaker 5: So played before the game started, the Patriots they dominated
- 22:39Speaker 5: for sixty minutes. Yeah, they all played Cincinnati for sixty
- 22:42Speaker 5: four minutes.
- 22:42Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 22:43Speaker 2: I put it less conditioning than they just played better.
- 22:46Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I think that was more how I
- 22:48Speaker 4: looked at it, like if it had been a long
- 22:49Speaker 4: game and you know, you just felt like, man, these
- 22:51Speaker 4: teams both seemed tired. But like once I would say,
- 22:54Speaker 4: like in the Sunday night game, I watched Detroit in
- 22:56Speaker 4: the in the Rams, I'm sorry, the ROMs, you and
- 23:00Speaker 4: David Montgomery just completely took the overtime drive over and
- 23:03Speaker 4: went right down the field.
- 23:04Speaker 5: I don't think it's because the Rams were out of shape.
- 23:07Speaker 5: I just think that their offensive line sort of took
- 23:09Speaker 5: over when the game was on the line, and they
- 23:11Speaker 5: ran the ball very well. I just think it happens.
- 23:13Speaker 5: I think both sides in a Week one overtime game, both.
- 23:16Speaker 4: Sides are probably and at that point.
- 23:19Speaker 2: If you remember the beginning of this game, the Patriots game,
- 23:22Speaker 2: the defense had to be out in the field for
- 23:25Speaker 2: quite a bit to begin because the offense was going yeah.
- 23:29Speaker 5: And Cincinnati's defense no, Patriots, I don't think went three
- 23:34Speaker 5: and our much at all.
- 23:35Speaker 4: And to start the game that the sin defense had
- 23:38Speaker 4: more was on the field more early on. So they yeah,
- 23:41Speaker 4: just because of that, That's what I'm saying.
- 23:42Speaker 2: No, No, but I thought our defense the second.
- 23:44Speaker 4: Drive of the game was an eighty yard drive for US. Yeah,
- 23:47Speaker 4: it was.
- 23:48Speaker 5: They went like, I don't know how, like thirteen fourteen
- 23:51Speaker 5: plays eighty yards.
- 23:52Speaker 7: No.
- 23:52Speaker 2: I just I just remember thinking, oh, our defense needs
- 23:54Speaker 2: a little bit of that.
- 23:55Speaker 5: Hold on, you know what, let me send that if
- 23:58Speaker 5: we had a different setup, I'd be more.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Oh god jeezy. I remember thinking and on the blog
- 24:08Speaker 2: people say, you know, our defense needs a little bit
- 24:11Speaker 2: of a breather.
- 24:12Speaker 5: I don't know why you would ever say that. The
- 24:13Speaker 5: first three drives for Cincinnati with three and oh that
- 24:16Speaker 5: I remember.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Specifically, Yeah, but I believe I love when the glasses
- 24:21Speaker 3: go on. That's when you know it's please holds please.
- 24:24Speaker 5: So the yeah, three and ol for Cincinnati. Then the
- 24:27Speaker 5: Patriots get a first down on the first two plays,
- 24:32Speaker 5: and then they then they ended up having to punt,
- 24:36Speaker 5: and then Cincinnati goes three and out again, and then
- 24:39Speaker 5: the Patriots go on a fourteen play eighty yard drive
- 24:44Speaker 5: that took seven minutes and twenty seconds off off the
- 24:46Speaker 5: clot to take a seven or nothing lead. Like it
- 24:49Speaker 5: was like they were in The Patriots were in control
- 24:52Speaker 5: of the game really for sixty minutes. Now, you know,
- 24:57Speaker 5: the the thing that's that's tough to try to like
- 25:00Speaker 5: interpret something moving forward is what might keep saying it's
- 25:04Speaker 5: such a narrow path to victory that I felt they
- 25:09Speaker 5: were in complete control of the way the game was played,
- 25:12Speaker 5: and yet with three minutes left in the game, the
- 25:13Speaker 5: other team has the ball down six with a chance
- 25:16Speaker 5: to win.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Right, and it's Joe Burrow.
- 25:18Speaker 5: You're thoroughly in control of the game, and the other
- 25:20Speaker 5: team has the ball with a chance to win. Now,
- 25:23Speaker 5: Patriots closed like champs. They forced a three and out,
- 25:26Speaker 5: and then they end up in victory formation because they
- 25:28Speaker 5: were able to get two first downs with ramondre Stevenson.
- 25:31Speaker 4: Right, don't you think, Paul, that's exactly your argument for
- 25:33Speaker 4: running the ball of you can dominate.
- 25:36Speaker 5: I thought they I thought they all played Cincinnati from
- 25:38Speaker 5: start to finish and yet had sixteen points and we're
- 25:41Speaker 5: in a dogfight.
- 25:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:43Speaker 3: I think that was the difference between this because we've
- 25:45Speaker 3: seen them win sixteen to ten games for the last
- 25:48Speaker 3: three or four years, like it's not abnormal. But in
- 25:51Speaker 3: this game, they started out so well. They outgained Cincinnati
- 25:55Speaker 3: in the first choart I think is like one.
- 25:56Speaker 6: Twenty seventeen to seventeen. Yeah, I was gonna say.
- 25:58Speaker 3: One twenty to twenty. You know that that kind of
- 26:00Speaker 3: range sounds right, and then they were up ten nothing
- 26:03Speaker 3: at halftime. It hasn't we haven't seen that at time.
- 26:06Speaker 3: We've seen a lot of you know, last year in
- 26:08Speaker 3: Week one, they're down what eighteen to nothing, like right
- 26:10Speaker 3: off off this jump and coming from behind the whole
- 26:13Speaker 3: game like that part of it was refreshing, But if
- 26:17Speaker 3: we want to get to the grievances, at the end
- 26:20Speaker 3: of the day, they threw for one hundred and twenty
- 26:23Speaker 3: one yards and they scored sixteen points. And that formula
- 26:29Speaker 3: is just not going to work most week.
- 26:31Speaker 2: But isn't it almost kind of like the perfect scenario.
- 26:36Speaker 2: You win games, but it's not because you're throwing the
- 26:39Speaker 2: ball all over the yard. So that, Okay, when Drake
- 26:42Speaker 2: May comes in, it's gonna look that much better.
- 26:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I hope. So I just I think the biggest
- 26:47Speaker 3: thing is to.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Me because he is coming in. Yes, he's coming in.
- 26:51Speaker 3: And maybe you know, one of the biggest gripes I
- 26:54Speaker 3: had with Jacoby from this game was just he does
- 26:57Speaker 3: not want to test a tight window down the field,
- 27:00Speaker 3: like if it's if it's NFL open, but it's not
- 27:04Speaker 3: wide open, he's not throwing it. Yeah, And so there
- 27:07Speaker 3: was numerous times on this tape where he had open
- 27:11Speaker 3: receivers downfield and he's checking the ball.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Well, even when they took that shot. I think it
- 27:15Speaker 2: was early in the third quarter. He just threw the
- 27:18Speaker 2: ball too long.
- 27:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, he look, he is what he is. He's
- 27:23Speaker 3: a veteran game manager quarterback who deserves, like I said
- 27:28Speaker 3: at the beginning, a lot of credit for mitigating the
- 27:30Speaker 3: pressure and dealing with the circumstances and all those things.
- 27:33Speaker 3: But there was at least three or four times in
- 27:36Speaker 3: twenty five dropacks where I'm thinking to myself, like, just
- 27:40Speaker 3: rip it, man, like, just throw the ball, and he
- 27:42Speaker 3: just doesn't want to throw it. You know, they set
- 27:44Speaker 3: up a play action shot they checked it down to
- 27:47Speaker 3: Remandre and Austin Hooper on the wheel. Is just he's open,
- 27:51Speaker 3: like and you just want to see him just kind
- 27:53Speaker 3: of throw the ball into that window, and he just
- 27:55Speaker 3: doesn't want to do it. I thought he had Hunter
- 27:57Speaker 3: Henry multiple times in the red zone for touchdown and
- 28:00Speaker 3: just couldn't either didn't get the ball there or didn't
- 28:03Speaker 3: want to force it into a tighter window. It really
- 28:06Speaker 3: seems to show itself in the red zone where the
- 28:08Speaker 3: space is compacted that he just doesn't necessarily have that
- 28:12Speaker 3: in him. You have a forty eight percent pressure rate,
- 28:14Speaker 3: highest in the NFL in Week one, that's not sustainable.
- 28:18Speaker 3: And the lack of play action plays were a big
- 28:20Speaker 3: problem too. In this game, you only have twenty six
- 28:23Speaker 3: yards off of five play action attempts, despite the fact
- 28:26Speaker 3: that you ran for one seventy Like you should be
- 28:28Speaker 3: able to sequence those two things together and get some
- 28:31Speaker 3: more explosives out of the play action game. So the
- 28:33Speaker 3: passing game in general is not good enough by any
- 28:37Speaker 3: stretch of the imagination, like that's going to lose most games.
- 28:39Speaker 6: So just curious.
- 28:40Speaker 5: Obviously, the offense wasn't great, So most of the things
- 28:44Speaker 5: you just mentioned were all related to the offense per set,
- 28:47Speaker 5: the game plan. Yeah, anything else on the other side,
- 28:51Speaker 5: hold that was you'll get your chance. We're airing the grievances.
- 28:54Speaker 5: This is the air the grievances.
- 28:57Speaker 6: I didn't know.
- 28:58Speaker 3: I don't have too many nitpicks defense. I I really
- 29:02Speaker 3: you know, we didn't talk about Gonzales yet. I thought
- 29:04Speaker 3: some of the man covery reps he had against Chase
- 29:06Speaker 3: were just ridiculous good.
- 29:08Speaker 5: I'll take this as the opportunity to sort of reiterate
- 29:12Speaker 5: that I thought they played a lot of his own I
- 29:16Speaker 5: thought that Gonzales was really good and not necessarily quote
- 29:21Speaker 5: unquote locking down one guy the whole game. No, so
- 29:25Speaker 5: that and that, and like I had the misfortune of
- 29:28Speaker 5: saying that in the post game, and I said something like,
- 29:30Speaker 5: it's not like Chase ended up with three catches for
- 29:33Speaker 5: fourteen yards or something with Gonzales covering him on every play, Right,
- 29:37Speaker 5: that's locking the guy down.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Yep.
- 29:40Speaker 5: How many players did you have him covering him?
- 29:41Speaker 9: Man?
- 29:42Speaker 3: He had a man to man only seven, but they had.
- 29:45Speaker 4: Twenty seven seven times in the game.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Yep. But okay, so yeah.
- 29:50Speaker 5: Again, this is not an indictment on Gonzales. Just don't
- 29:53Speaker 5: tell me he did something that he didn't do.
- 29:54Speaker 2: No, no, but he didn't lock him down all game.
- 29:57Speaker 2: But there were.
- 29:58Speaker 5: Asked to like, right, that's this is my that's the point
- 30:01Speaker 5: I was trying to make. And evidently I'm now I'm the.
- 30:06Speaker 2: But I think the future is bright for Gonzales. And
- 30:09Speaker 2: you look at some of the plays where he was
- 30:10Speaker 2: one on one with Chase where the ball didn't go
- 30:13Speaker 2: to Chase, and you ever see like those little fish
- 30:16Speaker 2: that move like as a group, he looked like he
- 30:20Speaker 2: was attached to Chase's I mean it was like the
- 30:23Speaker 2: way they moved together. It was almost like.
- 30:26Speaker 4: A dance, and so I can't see that on TV.
- 30:29Speaker 2: No, you saw it in the overhead and you know,
- 30:32Speaker 2: and that type of fluidity you know, in a corner
- 30:36Speaker 2: is rare. It's rare, and that's what separates the great
- 30:40Speaker 2: ones from the good ones. And you saw that.
- 30:42Speaker 5: What else does locking up a guy? Man the man
- 30:45Speaker 5: every play?
- 30:46Speaker 2: Okay, and that will come. I agree that will come.
- 30:50Speaker 6: But a lot of people think it already came.
- 30:52Speaker 2: It didn't come this game.
- 30:53Speaker 4: No, no, no, I'm not.
- 30:54Speaker 5: Talking about this game that it came. That's what he is. Yeah,
- 30:57Speaker 5: he's played five games, right right, like, that's all. But
- 31:01Speaker 5: I thought he was fine in the game. I have
- 31:02Speaker 5: no issues. I didn't have a single issue with even
- 31:05Speaker 5: the penalty he got. I had no problem with the penalty.
- 31:08Speaker 5: It wasn't egregious. Sometimes they let that go, sometimes they
- 31:11Speaker 5: call it.
- 31:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I had no problem with at all.
- 31:14Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure that he has the physical ability to
- 31:17Speaker 2: be that lockdown guy. Will he have it up here?
- 31:21Speaker 6: That's what he wants to be, to be determined, he'd
- 31:24Speaker 6: better be.
- 31:24Speaker 2: I mean, you drafted him in the first round, right.
- 31:26Speaker 3: I think I think he's there.
- 31:28Speaker 6: He I think that's what he wants.
- 31:29Speaker 2: He's got the ability. He's got the ability.
- 31:32Speaker 3: I think he's already in that fit category. Like if
- 31:35Speaker 3: I was the Patriots coaching staff and they basically did
- 31:38Speaker 3: I mean, he lined up against Chase twenty times, some
- 31:40Speaker 3: of it was zone. It ended up being zoned, but
- 31:43Speaker 3: they only threw the ball twenty well twenty Higgins.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Was in the game. Would he have had to do
- 31:48Speaker 2: it more.
- 31:49Speaker 3: Or maybe he's on Higgins.
- 31:50Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 31:51Speaker 3: I mean, if I'm Covington and Mayo, I go to
- 31:54Speaker 3: him every single Tuesday night and I say, you have
- 31:57Speaker 3: number fourteen this week, see you Sunday. Like he is,
- 32:03Speaker 3: he's that good.
- 32:04Speaker 5: I thought he was really good in the game. I
- 32:06Speaker 5: you know, I think he did exactly what they asked
- 32:08Speaker 5: him to do. And I think they wisely played a
- 32:11Speaker 5: lot of zone. I think it was like sixty percent yep,
- 32:14Speaker 5: which I think is a little I mean, you have
- 32:16Speaker 5: the numbers and this stuff. It seems seemed a little
- 32:18Speaker 5: bit more than they normally do to me.
- 32:20Speaker 3: Not quite as much as they did in twenty two
- 32:22Speaker 3: against the Bengals, But they didn't have the corners they
- 32:24Speaker 3: have now. You know, they had Bryant Miles Bryant, Marcus Jones,
- 32:28Speaker 3: and Jonathan Jones that game. So now when you throw
- 32:30Speaker 3: Gonzo in there, you feel a little bit comfortable.
- 32:33Speaker 4: God loved.
- 32:34Speaker 5: I mean, how can you quibble with a game plan
- 32:36Speaker 5: that made Joe Burrow look so average? I know, you know,
- 32:40Speaker 5: like I love the game plan.
- 32:42Speaker 4: I just.
- 32:44Speaker 5: I just don't understand what you guys thought. There was
- 32:46Speaker 5: no t Higgins. They had something.
- 32:49Speaker 4: Named yas.
- 32:52Speaker 5: Hyoshi vas Yoshias right playing a key role who actually
- 32:57Speaker 5: made a terrific catch, but otherwise it was invisible. And
- 33:00Speaker 5: Jamar Chase having not done anything all summer, like I
- 33:03Speaker 5: don't know how like if anyone expected him to do.
- 33:05Speaker 5: I think he exceeded my expectations six for sixty two.
- 33:09Speaker 4: And had hard runs after catching.
- 33:10Speaker 5: And I'm not like surprised that some of his catches
- 33:13Speaker 5: weren't on Gonzales, Like they played zone so sometimes like
- 33:17Speaker 5: and I think the biggest play for him was that
- 33:19Speaker 5: twenty eight yard that was definitely but right in the
- 33:22Speaker 5: middle of like four guys, Like that was a definite
- 33:24Speaker 5: zone that was not Gonzales's fault down And I didn't
- 33:27Speaker 5: say it was Gonzalez's fault in the post game.
- 33:29Speaker 4: At the end of the back of everything. They had
- 33:31Speaker 4: Joe Burrow and I'm a big boy.
- 33:33Speaker 2: They had an elite quarterback and they made that elite
- 33:36Speaker 2: quarterback you know, see ghosts and they so hats off
- 33:42Speaker 2: to the defense. I'm proud of you.
- 33:44Speaker 6: Yeah the very first that's condescending.
- 33:49Speaker 5: Who am I I'm proud.
- 33:52Speaker 4: I'm proud of you.
- 33:53Speaker 2: I'm there. You know, I've seen a lot of defenses.
- 33:56Speaker 4: Yeah, you have. You know, I would just say a
- 33:59Speaker 4: couple grets that are caused for concern with me. It's
- 34:02Speaker 4: just low pressure rate from the defense. I mean that
- 34:04Speaker 4: number is seventeen percent, and then just rushing four was eleven.
- 34:07Speaker 4: So a team that's gonna have to get by with manufacturing.
- 34:11Speaker 4: And I thought a lot of what they did was
- 34:13Speaker 4: early on and they set the tone. And everyone wants
- 34:15Speaker 4: to talk about ke On White Sacks that came like
- 34:17Speaker 4: what all on like the first what four or five possessions, So,
- 34:20Speaker 4: I mean I had one one at the end, but
- 34:22Speaker 4: you know, it just it wasn't consistent enough for me.
- 34:24Speaker 4: Didn't see a lot out of Uce. I mean, he
- 34:25Speaker 4: played like six seven snaps he seems so I just
- 34:28Speaker 4: you know, it looks great there, but something going on,
- 34:30Speaker 4: there's gonna be some other time to play, so little.
- 34:33Speaker 3: Continues to be something weird with Yeah, he had three
- 34:36Speaker 3: hurries in this game. One of them one of the
- 34:38Speaker 3: sacks was him coming off the edge of forcing right
- 34:40Speaker 3: under Trump Brown to step up. But this was one
- 34:44Speaker 3: of my bigger questions with Covington and this whole new
- 34:46Speaker 3: regime on defense was just you know, how aggressive would
- 34:49Speaker 3: they be? This was a coverage game plan, Like they
- 34:52Speaker 3: did not want to take the numbers out of the
- 34:54Speaker 3: back end to rush the passer at all.
- 34:56Speaker 4: Really.
- 34:57Speaker 3: Uh, they had a few of those like you know,
- 34:59Speaker 3: schemed pressures, whatever you want to call them, but they
- 35:02Speaker 3: rush forth the entire game. And when you do that,
- 35:05Speaker 3: like I know, they don't have a great you know
- 35:07Speaker 3: jets like defensive line that's gonna put up a forty
- 35:10Speaker 3: percent pressure a when they rush four guys. But they
- 35:13Speaker 3: covered so well that it didn't necessarily end up mattering.
- 35:16Speaker 4: So that's what stood out to me was I felt
- 35:18Speaker 4: like a lot of the impact on Burrow was, like
- 35:21Speaker 4: Evan said earlier, where it's not there, you know, And
- 35:24Speaker 4: I think it wasn't the press where it was just not.
- 35:26Speaker 6: They got pressure early, and I think that got Borrow short.
- 35:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I think.
- 35:31Speaker 2: I'll be interested to hear from everybody, you know, later
- 35:34Speaker 2: in the week when we start talking about the Seahawks,
- 35:37Speaker 2: how you think the defense might change their approach. I
- 35:40Speaker 2: don't want to get into it now, but like, will it.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Do you think that they might have different looks for
- 35:45Speaker 2: the Seahawks than they do for Joe Burrow.
- 35:47Speaker 5: Let me know what Kenneth Walker's status is.
- 35:50Speaker 4: Okay, that'll be the big thing for me.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they played so much Cover two in
- 35:54Speaker 3: this game, like that was their number one.
- 35:55Speaker 5: You're not gonna be able to dare Seattle to run
- 35:57Speaker 5: if Kenneth Walker's playing.
- 35:58Speaker 3: Yeah, that that's the big thing. And you know the
- 36:01Speaker 3: the Bengals, they're a shotgun team, They're a three receiver team.
- 36:04Speaker 3: They like to spread the field. They have Burrow. They
- 36:06Speaker 3: just say you go out there and do your thing.
- 36:09Speaker 3: And the Patriots just played.
- 36:11Speaker 6: The more I'm thinking of it like that, it's exactly right.
- 36:14Speaker 5: And Zach Taylor still didn't do anything different despite the
- 36:16Speaker 5: fact that there were three receiver.
- 36:18Speaker 6: Team and we're missing two of them. Yeah, Like, and
- 36:20Speaker 6: he just did the same.
- 36:21Speaker 4: Well, that's what we do.
- 36:22Speaker 5: Like you're supposed to be one of the tight pants guys.
- 36:25Speaker 3: Right, He's not it now, he's not invited to the.
- 36:28Speaker 5: But you're supposed to be one of the innovative, like creative.
- 36:31Speaker 5: I hear you offense guys, and you just said, well,
- 36:34Speaker 5: I don't have I don't have t Higgins at all,
- 36:36Speaker 5: And I can't really expect Jamar Chase to be Jamar Chase.
- 36:40Speaker 5: But I'm just gonna run the same same game plan
- 36:42Speaker 5: that I normally would.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Yeah, like I had those Yeah, Zach Taylor every time
- 36:46Speaker 3: I watched the Bengals offense. I think it's one of
- 36:49Speaker 3: the most rudimentary offenses in the NFL.
- 36:51Speaker 6: I think DeMarcus Covington would agree with.
- 36:53Speaker 3: And so you have you have Burrow, Chase and Higgins,
- 36:56Speaker 3: and then you had Tyler Boyd for a while too,
- 36:58Speaker 3: is also a really good player. It's like, Yeah, if
- 37:01Speaker 3: you just go out there and you spread the field
- 37:02Speaker 3: and let those guys go one on one, somebody is
- 37:04Speaker 3: probably gonna win hero out and you're gonna be able
- 37:06Speaker 3: to move the ball. Their scheme is extremely simple, and
- 37:10Speaker 3: I I it jocks me that that they win as
- 37:13Speaker 3: much as they do. It's it's off of talent honestly
- 37:15Speaker 3: on that the Bengals.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Oh, that's right, f them.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Do you have any do anything in the press box
- 37:21Speaker 4: saying that for a long time?
- 37:23Speaker 2: And I mean.
- 37:23Speaker 4: It, do you do anything up in the nineteen year?
- 37:26Speaker 2: I know, I started to take my shirt off and
- 37:28Speaker 2: three security guards accosted me and told me to leave
- 37:32Speaker 2: my shirt on it.
- 37:33Speaker 4: So you can't tell me what to do.
- 37:36Speaker 2: And by the way, their halftime food was dog food,
- 37:38Speaker 2: so you know Skyline in every way, in every way.
- 37:43Speaker 4: You didn't get a halftime hot dog. At the way.
- 37:46Speaker 2: They were, they were like these little mini things. They're
- 37:49Speaker 2: they were like the size are they lizzies? What's that
- 37:58Speaker 2: hot dog?
- 37:59Speaker 4: A glizzy?
- 38:00Speaker 3: It's just another name for it.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Who gave you that name? I've never heard that.
- 38:03Speaker 3: From social media?
- 38:04Speaker 5: I'll bet you Meani the Connor was calling him that
- 38:06Speaker 5: when he was like still in high school.
- 38:07Speaker 4: I've never heard the term before.
- 38:09Speaker 2: I've never heard it before.
- 38:10Speaker 4: You've never heard the term very popular name, Mike, is
- 38:13Speaker 4: it dog?
- 38:14Speaker 5: I'm just you want to know when you really, like,
- 38:17Speaker 5: when Paul knows something that.
- 38:18Speaker 2: You don't, so like that's so instead of ordering a
- 38:21Speaker 2: hot dog, they would say, give me a glizzy.
- 38:23Speaker 4: No, you just know whoa whoa whoa Matisa's glassy all
- 38:28Speaker 4: the time.
- 38:29Speaker 3: It's just like get some glizzies, you know something like that.
- 38:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I don't what does it mean?
- 38:35Speaker 2: Like, what's it?
- 38:36Speaker 3: It's literally just a hot dogs.
- 38:37Speaker 5: So people have looked it up and it's really nothing
- 38:40Speaker 5: definitive about it.
- 38:40Speaker 4: I've heard people talk about him on I've heard him
- 38:42Speaker 4: talk about in the radio.
- 38:43Speaker 6: My kids have called him that.
- 38:45Speaker 4: Since they were like really little.
- 38:46Speaker 5: Really really, that's what I mean kids these days, that's
- 38:50Speaker 5: what you kids do. It's been a minute something to
- 38:54Speaker 5: do every day.
- 38:55Speaker 2: I guess.
- 38:55Speaker 5: I mean I I missed your fit thing. I actually
- 38:58Speaker 5: took your key on white fit thing literally because of him.
- 39:01Speaker 4: I thought there was a chance.
- 39:06Speaker 2: All right, So later on we'll talk about other games
- 39:10Speaker 2: in the NFL, but let's hear what our listeners have
- 39:13Speaker 2: to say. It is no longer the other hotline. It's
- 39:16Speaker 2: now the TPX hotline going forward. So that's eight the
- 39:22Speaker 2: numbers the same, eight, five, five, pass five hundred. But
- 39:25Speaker 2: let's go to the TPX hotline and see what you
- 39:27Speaker 2: have to say. We'll start with Cameron in North Carolina.
- 39:30Speaker 2: What's up, Cam?
- 39:33Speaker 10: Hey, guys, this one's for you. I think I'm the
- 39:37Speaker 10: one that you're referring to about the Gonzo oh, and
- 39:43Speaker 10: I just it might've been my fault for not articulating
- 39:46Speaker 10: my question well enough. But I think that maybe you
- 39:49Speaker 10: misunderstood what I was saying is I was asking if
- 39:53Speaker 10: you knew what team and what defense they were running,
- 39:56Speaker 10: because based off the TV, it showed a couple of
- 39:59Speaker 10: clips here and there Gonzo on Jamar Kate and it
- 40:03Speaker 10: looked like he was on a pit. So that's the
- 40:05Speaker 10: why I was asking, was he on the clant or
- 40:09Speaker 10: were they running his.
- 40:10Speaker 6: Own So I'm in the same boat as you, Cameron,
- 40:15Speaker 6: What's that?
- 40:16Speaker 4: I said?
- 40:16Speaker 5: I'm in the same boat as you because Mike and
- 40:17Speaker 5: I are watching it off a TV. So when we're saying,
- 40:20Speaker 5: like we see him involved in tackles that resulted in
- 40:23Speaker 5: first downs, I can't tell you, well, that was a
- 40:26Speaker 5: man a man rep or that was his own rep
- 40:28Speaker 5: and he just happened to be the guy that came
- 40:29Speaker 5: over made the tackle. I felt like from watching, and
- 40:32Speaker 5: I think we said this on Sunday Mike, that there
- 40:36Speaker 5: was a lot of GTFB going on. I thought it
- 40:39Speaker 5: was kind of an old school keep everything in front
- 40:42Speaker 5: make him go the long way. I think Evan's point
- 40:45Speaker 5: about maybe Burrow not trusting outside the numbers as much
- 40:48Speaker 5: might have had something to do with it. You see
- 40:50Speaker 5: him doing a lot of this on the sideline. Maybe
- 40:52Speaker 5: he didn't trust his arm to actually take advantage of
- 40:56Speaker 5: some of the holes. I think they kind of put
- 40:59Speaker 5: everything in one of them. But Cameron, to your point,
- 41:02Speaker 5: I don't really know exactly I'm gonna trust Evans' view.
- 41:06Speaker 5: He had seven snaps that and mad he covered man
- 41:10Speaker 5: to man out of what thirty two dropbacks? Yeah, or
- 41:13Speaker 5: Joe Burrow he was on chase, I don't know how
- 41:16Speaker 5: many passes he was lined up on the field Chase
- 41:19Speaker 5: on twenty routes.
- 41:20Speaker 3: Seven of them were straight man to man. Forty five
- 41:23Speaker 3: percent of them were pressed though, and uh a lot
- 41:26Speaker 3: of it. You know they're they're cover three. I mean
- 41:28Speaker 3: you're really man to man on the outside when you
- 41:30Speaker 3: play cover three. So even though it's a zone technically,
- 41:34Speaker 3: I mean, you have you have the deep thirds like
- 41:36Speaker 3: you for saying that as well, you're one on one
- 41:38Speaker 3: like it's it's the same thing.
- 41:40Speaker 6: I just can't gets man within your zwn and Cam.
- 41:42Speaker 5: I would say that we we we We actually all
- 41:44Speaker 5: agree it's a typical PF de well PU, I call
- 41:48Speaker 5: a PFW in progress.
- 41:49Speaker 4: Still I can't stop doing that.
- 41:50Speaker 2: It was a good name.
- 41:51Speaker 6: It's a typical PU. Yes, that's why some of us
- 41:54Speaker 6: didn't want to change it.
- 41:55Speaker 2: We don't do the newspaper anymore, Paul.
- 41:58Speaker 4: But we all agree.
- 41:59Speaker 5: It was like a man, you know me, I don't
- 42:01Speaker 5: change well apparently, but I do think there was a
- 42:05Speaker 5: lot of agreement, even though we got to we got
- 42:08Speaker 5: to the Gonzales discussion from different viewpoints and and and points.
- 42:13Speaker 5: I felt like everybody thought the same thing that he
- 42:16Speaker 5: played well.
- 42:16Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, I think everybody.
- 42:19Speaker 5: I haven't really seen anybody that said, you know what,
- 42:21Speaker 5: he didn't play very well in that game. I didn't
- 42:23Speaker 5: hear anyone, So it's only one guy, not even Matt
- 42:25Speaker 5: Smith play well.
- 42:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean the way he came up three catches
- 42:28Speaker 3: for fifteen yards our new hosts.
- 42:29Speaker 5: Yeah, sneaky negative, really sneaky negative.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Yeah, he's always been that sneak.
- 42:35Speaker 4: I don't think you're sneaking about it.
- 42:37Speaker 5: He's a you know, we had a great time. Mike
- 42:39Speaker 5: and I were like, finally it was like the middle
- 42:40Speaker 5: of the fourth corner. We're like, seriously, it's not nineteen
- 42:43Speaker 5: ninety one anymore.
- 42:45Speaker 4: I looked at me at one point, I'm like, it's
- 42:46Speaker 4: a roller coaster with you.
- 42:48Speaker 5: The last twenty five years even happened.
- 42:50Speaker 2: He's always waiting for the other shoot. Oh always, He's
- 42:53Speaker 2: very he's a he watches the scared.
- 42:55Speaker 4: No he has Oh yeah, he has very much.
- 42:57Speaker 5: Oh watches I like that fourteen thirteen that you know
- 43:00Speaker 5: they're gonna lose fourteen thirteen field goals sixty, They're gonna
- 43:03Speaker 5: lose seventeen sixty.
- 43:05Speaker 3: It's like my dad, he's the same way. Speaking of
- 43:08Speaker 3: nineteen ninety one, the Patriots had a drop back for
- 43:11Speaker 3: Jacoby Brissett, a seven step drop from under center without
- 43:15Speaker 3: play action. I have not seen that since nineteen ninety one.
- 43:18Speaker 4: I was shocked.
- 43:19Speaker 3: I was like, what is going.
- 43:20Speaker 5: On any of the Sunday Night game A little bit? Yeah,
- 43:24Speaker 5: So Stafford throws a pick in the end zone the
- 43:27Speaker 5: end of the half. There was like twelve seconds left
- 43:29Speaker 5: in the half, and that meat head had Jared Goff
- 43:33Speaker 5: drought back like one of those five to seven step drops,
- 43:37Speaker 5: get blindsided by Jared Verse and somehow.
- 43:40Speaker 4: Hold onto the ball.
- 43:41Speaker 5: Like they came a whisker away from something that would
- 43:44Speaker 5: have been talked about for the entire season, like if
- 43:47Speaker 5: he gets stripsacked and the Rams end up getting points
- 43:50Speaker 5: on a play like that? Like what an unbelievably boneheaded play. Now,
- 43:55Speaker 5: evidently Jamison Williams was wide open or had single coverage
- 43:59Speaker 5: on the side.
- 44:00Speaker 4: Who cares risk reward?
- 44:02Speaker 3: I'm not a I'm not a big fan of seven
- 44:04Speaker 3: step drops from under center, A lot of steps like
- 44:06Speaker 3: if you're if you remember what, if you're gonna play
- 44:09Speaker 3: an action off of it, then I'm a little bit
- 44:11Speaker 3: more on board. But no, there's no offense in the
- 44:15Speaker 3: NFL anymore that does seven step drop for Why why
- 44:17Speaker 3: did they do it? Were they trying to head to No,
- 44:19Speaker 3: they weren't even trying to do that. They just ran
- 44:21Speaker 3: like a hooper, ran like over the ball.
- 44:24Speaker 4: It was very odd.
- 44:26Speaker 2: Let's go to Susan and Tennessee. Hey Susan, Hey guys,
- 44:31Speaker 2: long time listener.
- 44:33Speaker 9: And I've been to a few Bengals games. Actually, you know,
- 44:37Speaker 9: I've seen everybody they've had except for Joe Burrow play
- 44:41Speaker 9: and I went to LUSU so I want to see
- 44:42Speaker 9: Joe's home. That's the game Sunday, and the one thing
- 44:45Speaker 9: I couldn't believe is how well the Patriots wrapped up tackles.
- 44:50Speaker 9: I've been watching a long time, and I thought it's
- 44:52Speaker 9: been several years since we've seen such wrapping up on
- 44:56Speaker 9: the tackles. I mean, I'm not a football guy like Evan,
- 44:59Speaker 9: but I've got eight sons that watched a lot of balls. Wow,
- 45:02Speaker 9: I have not seen that in a long time. And
- 45:04Speaker 9: I wanted to give kudos to stop in those guys
- 45:08Speaker 9: after any kind of movement, And also thought the Bengals
- 45:10Speaker 9: were sorely missing Joe Mixon. And also I want you
- 45:13Speaker 9: guys to talk about how Tom Brady did because I'm
- 45:15Speaker 9: a fan girl.
- 45:15Speaker 4: Take it off there, come back, come back on.
- 45:19Speaker 2: We talked about the very last We all agree that
- 45:22Speaker 2: the tackling was sure, yeah, you know they it was.
- 45:26Speaker 5: Jonathan Jones play on the fourth down.
- 45:28Speaker 4: It was ridiculous.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Yeah, he comes seventeen yards on that place.
- 45:32Speaker 4: Yeah, like just when you froze it, where they were
- 45:34Speaker 4: when he caught the ball and where Jones was.
- 45:36Speaker 5: How many times do you see, you know, during an
- 45:38Speaker 5: NFL week when you're just watching the games, he plays
- 45:42Speaker 5: like that and a guy shoots a gap or he
- 45:45Speaker 5: fights through you know, it's a quick play, fights through
- 45:48Speaker 5: the wash. He gets there, but it's so hard to
- 45:50Speaker 5: get the guy on, Like the initial contact is there,
- 45:52Speaker 5: he doesn't get the help, and a guy ends up
- 45:54Speaker 5: scuirting through and getting the first down. Like I've seen
- 45:58Speaker 5: a million plays like John Nathan Jones getting there, but
- 46:01Speaker 5: to get him on the ground, yeah, quick, just right there, veteran.
- 46:05Speaker 3: He's one of those guys that I just wish and
- 46:08Speaker 3: I will continue to fight the good fight for you,
- 46:09Speaker 3: Jonathan Jones, Like the national recognition should be much higher
- 46:13Speaker 3: for him, Like he's been a legitimately great corner for
- 46:17Speaker 3: like four or five years.
- 46:18Speaker 2: He just doesn't get the stats like a lot of
- 46:20Speaker 2: you know.
- 46:20Speaker 3: Yeah, but he's inside outside, he plays a little safety.
- 46:23Speaker 3: He tackles well, he's fast, like he can cover. He's
- 46:26Speaker 3: the best guy at covering Tyree Kill in the league,
- 46:28Speaker 3: Like nobody covers him better than than Jonathan Dons Police Jones.
- 46:33Speaker 4: And also he's elite at answering press conference questions just
- 46:37Speaker 4: quick bang, like two sentences direct to the point out.
- 46:40Speaker 3: They have a couple of guys like that on defense,
- 46:42Speaker 3: who you know, I think Tova is starting to get
- 46:44Speaker 3: a little bit more pub you know him uh t
- 46:47Speaker 3: vay Uh. Just these lunch pale guys that are just
- 46:51Speaker 3: such solid, fundamentally sound football players, but they just wrong
- 46:55Speaker 3: middle Yeah, good good defenders.
- 46:59Speaker 2: All right, my foods here? Paul still on.
- 47:02Speaker 4: Seven minutes again to say something negatives.

- 49:27Speaker 13: Only, Bob soci Wick Scott Zolach, It's great to have
- 49:31Speaker 13: you with us. It's a hera for this new England
- 49:34Speaker 13: Patriots franchise takes a head high staff. He drops back
- 49:38Speaker 13: of the format run. Pressure coming falls at them when
- 49:40Speaker 13: the ball comes loose. As Pearl goes down, they have
- 49:43Speaker 13: to penetrate Keyon White and the second year defensive lineman
- 49:46Speaker 13: out of Georgia Tech, forcing Pearl to step up. He
- 49:49Speaker 13: lost in the hand, although the Bengals recovered while absorbing
- 49:52Speaker 13: a loss of three.
- 49:53Speaker 14: That's excellent pressure here coming down with the back of
- 49:56Speaker 14: the pocket. That's what you gotta do. Pop one of these.
- 49:58Speaker 4: Out on Pearls.
- 49:59Speaker 13: The Bengals crowd the line. His percent bulls weight gives
- 50:02Speaker 13: to Stevenson. Hop Life go runs past an arm tacko hang,
- 50:04Speaker 13: winning right to the thirty five forty on a stiff
- 50:06Speaker 13: arm and Roen Modre continues the stiff arm gribbing out
- 50:09Speaker 13: of mounds. Eventually as he sent Gino Stone, the safety
- 50:13Speaker 13: for Cincinnati, to the turf with a stiff left hand.
- 50:16Speaker 14: It's the Lake counter to the right side. Good patience,
- 50:19Speaker 14: excellent patience by Romandre Stevenson here to not rush this.
- 50:23Speaker 4: He rushes this.
- 50:24Speaker 14: I think he's dead for two yards in the backfield,
- 50:26Speaker 14: but he slides out that backside to.
- 50:28Speaker 2: The right for fourteen yard right.
- 50:30Speaker 13: Patriots moved with a third and goal to go just
- 50:32Speaker 13: outside and three ahead. He said, three tight ends are in.
- 50:35Speaker 13: He takes the hand up, he runs it through the
- 50:37Speaker 13: right side. He's into the end zone. Touchdown Patriots.
- 50:42Speaker 14: Phenomenal try eighty yards right down the field. Impeccable drive
- 50:47Speaker 14: by Jacobe Present. Excellent decision making with the throws and
- 50:51Speaker 14: then with the feet. I thought Jacoby was bigger with
- 50:54Speaker 14: his feet than the throws. And of course coming off
- 50:57Speaker 14: the ball going big there. Kate Wallas in the game
- 51:00Speaker 14: back off, but Darry Lowe and he again run that
- 51:02Speaker 14: counter between the tackles.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Armandre takes it in.
- 51:07Speaker 13: That's a big ball snap by Kris from the right
- 51:10Speaker 13: hash of the thirty seven Chase motions left.
- 51:12Speaker 2: Girls looking that way.
- 51:13Speaker 13: Watcher and Ukle Hoopy sacked and key On White was
- 51:16Speaker 13: here at the quarterbacks beat with the first pan to
- 51:18Speaker 13: the quarterback, but he had plenty of company.
- 51:21Speaker 14: Keyo White got up under Trent Brown's pad level on
- 51:25Speaker 14: that right side. It just took him and just absolutely
- 51:28Speaker 14: throw him into the backfield.
- 51:29Speaker 2: Claps the pocket onto.
- 51:31Speaker 14: Joe Burrow again, no first stay out to Patriots off
- 51:35Speaker 14: on three again defensively, that's a big shot dead snap.
- 51:39Speaker 13: Curl stands in lone the throw back corner of wife
- 51:41Speaker 13: for guess that he leaps, comes down in the frock
- 51:43Speaker 13: pie line. He made the catch touchdown.
- 51:46Speaker 3: Cincinnati Hall of Crow.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Call the throw covers us there.
- 51:52Speaker 14: After reviewing the play early in his incomplete path.
- 51:56Speaker 13: Turn officially a third down and eleven with Chase is
- 52:00Speaker 13: to split to the left, rotates the snap, drafts back
- 52:03Speaker 13: five man rush.
- 52:04Speaker 14: Thrown in the narrow and it's dropped on the top's
- 52:07Speaker 14: scooped up out of Hey Jones running down the right side.
- 52:09Speaker 13: Ten to fifteen.
- 52:10Speaker 14: Marcus Jones spun out of bounds on big lines.
- 52:13Speaker 13: And the completion to Tanner Hudson, who was seemingly on
- 52:16Speaker 13: his way to a score for Cincinnati is the ball
- 52:18Speaker 13: was not breathing.
- 52:19Speaker 9: Big play.
- 52:20Speaker 4: We've seen that time and time again. Play's not always
- 52:23Speaker 4: dead at the goal line.
- 52:24Speaker 14: We've been there in Pittsburgh before with the tight end.
- 52:27Speaker 14: Paul comes out that Juju Smith, the fletching plays aren't
- 52:30Speaker 14: dead near the goal line. This is great hustled by
- 52:33Speaker 14: Dugger to get the ball up.
- 52:36Speaker 13: Kyle Dugger from behind, came down with a Ryan hand
- 52:39Speaker 13: and want to play. Slap the ball away from Tanner, Hudson,
- 52:43Speaker 13: Jacoby lifta throws back in the pocket. He's under pressures.
- 52:48Speaker 13: It's going to be hinterceptube hard and complay.
- 52:52Speaker 4: My god.
- 52:54Speaker 13: There was a defender there along with Hunter, Henry. I
- 52:57Speaker 13: thought a tightly underthrown ball. It appeared alas to be
- 53:01Speaker 13: an interception. Henry eventually came away with the football. I
- 53:04Speaker 13: say it is an incomplete pass.
- 53:06Speaker 14: No SATs, no holy calls, no interceptions. He didn't get
- 53:10Speaker 14: all this into it. No, it's off the back foot
- 53:13Speaker 14: throwing up for grabs.
- 53:14Speaker 6: Sort of bets his worst.
- 53:15Speaker 4: Decision of the day.
- 53:16Speaker 13: The right footed kit who was a high climbing kick,
- 53:19Speaker 13: back pedaling all the way to the ten yard line
- 53:21Speaker 13: under it to run with the stunner stuff across the
- 53:24Speaker 13: fifteen of the twelve. The ball is used Don slimming
- 53:26Speaker 13: out of for the Patriots as Jolin Hawkins hop on
- 53:29Speaker 13: the forrest on.
- 53:30Speaker 2: A punt return Hamberden.
- 53:32Speaker 13: He flares at right flat. Catcher's made and running to
- 53:35Speaker 13: the right yo soa wah is brought down close to
- 53:37Speaker 13: the first down line. Again he's short. He's shackle in
- 53:40Speaker 13: the open field for the Patriots. New England with a
- 53:43Speaker 13: stop that Jonathan Jones, the veteran defensive bat for the Patriots,
- 53:48Speaker 13: letting a celebration.
- 53:49Speaker 14: That's all.
- 53:50Speaker 13: That's an excellent play with Yossi Vash making the catch
- 53:53Speaker 13: in the flat him out of a pistol barrel, takes
- 53:55Speaker 13: the snap of gifted Moss, runs it through the right
- 53:58Speaker 13: side and skip but he dives into the zone, falling
- 54:01Speaker 13: forward for a touchdown. Cincinnati.
- 54:03Speaker 4: It's a good draft for the Bengals.
- 54:06Speaker 13: He takes the staff on thirty ten. He's back in
- 54:08Speaker 13: the pocket, hits holding now he backs up and flips
- 54:10Speaker 13: it underneath catch by Moss. It's a round and it
- 54:12Speaker 13: brought down at the fifteen yard line. Pay three got
- 54:15Speaker 13: a hurried to the football.
- 54:17Speaker 4: They got a kid.
- 54:17Speaker 13: Dugger along with Gonzales from Bentley there with attack over
- 54:22Speaker 13: log of peppers all way from over, long way from
- 54:25Speaker 13: over two thirty eight.
- 54:26Speaker 14: You've got the two minute warning and you still have
- 54:28Speaker 14: all three timeouts.
- 54:29Speaker 4: If for Cincinnati they have to kick here turns.
- 54:32Speaker 13: And gives it to Stevens and give him a moderate.
- 54:34Speaker 13: To give him a moderate, starts right, that's it back
- 54:37Speaker 13: and he's gonna nearly step away from ext but he
- 54:39Speaker 13: picks up a first down on the lesser he gets
- 54:42Speaker 13: to the Cincinnati forty four.
- 54:43Speaker 14: Put them in a bubble rap. See you next Sunday
- 54:46Speaker 14: with Seattle at home. The Orange Sea is dumping out
- 54:51Speaker 14: who they.
- 54:54Speaker 9: Thy Tilker.
- 55:00Speaker 2: For Patriots unfiltered it is Paul Evan Duce, myself, Matt Nabooth.
- 55:05Speaker 2: We're talking about the Patriots, and you know, just a
- 55:08Speaker 2: great start to the twenty twenty four.
- 55:10Speaker 4: So I'm sure you could ask for a whole lot
- 55:12Speaker 4: more than that.
- 55:12Speaker 3: You can't, obviously, maybe some passing yard No, like I
- 55:15Speaker 3: was gonna.
- 55:15Speaker 5: Say, obviously, you know, we would have loved to have
- 55:17Speaker 5: seen them score like thirty eight points.
- 55:19Speaker 4: They don't have that in them.
- 55:20Speaker 2: But the thing is, they don't.
- 55:21Speaker 6: Have that personnel.
- 55:22Speaker 2: They made it look easy, correct, and it's easy to drink.
- 55:26Speaker 2: It's easy to enjoy. Bud Light, the official beer sponsor
- 55:29Speaker 2: of the New England Patriots.
- 55:32Speaker 6: And how you make those reads look Paul?
- 55:34Speaker 2: Are you looking for something to do before a kickoff?
- 55:37Speaker 5: This is always looking for something new to do before kickoffs?
- 55:39Speaker 2: Then why not get your living room game ready by
- 55:41Speaker 2: playing Bob's Discount Furniture Dare to Compare challenge.
- 55:45Speaker 4: I never thought of it.
- 55:46Speaker 2: When you're Dare to Compare Bob's Renegade Motion Sofa with
- 55:49Speaker 2: the competition, you get customizable, modular design, Bobble pedic power,
- 55:54Speaker 2: reclining seats, charging ports in plenty of storage for hundreds
- 55:58Speaker 2: less than other brands. Now that's a winning play. So
- 56:01Speaker 2: stop in and see how much you can save when
- 56:03Speaker 2: you Dare to Compare with Bob's Discount Furniture, the official
- 56:06Speaker 2: furniture store of the New England Patriots. I I just
- 56:10Speaker 2: picture Paul on yeah, on the Renegade Motion Sofa and
- 56:15Speaker 2: it kind of goes berserk. It's like this watching the
- 56:17Speaker 2: game and he Diepepsi's all over the place, is like, oh.
- 56:27Speaker 4: Poor guy, I thought. I don't like when people make
- 56:28Speaker 4: from of my paw. I was just gonna say, can
- 56:30Speaker 4: we talk about a CORP four getting pulled that quick?
- 56:32Speaker 4: Did he get did he? This is? This is terrible.
- 56:34Speaker 4: You're getting out of their Vadarian Low is still hurt.
- 56:37Speaker 4: Get in there, Verdarian Low and hang on tight because
- 56:39Speaker 4: we can't afford to put a core four in and
- 56:41Speaker 4: left tackle. I mean, is this is that experiment over
- 56:43Speaker 4: you think.
- 56:44Speaker 3: He let up three pressures in six pass bocking snaps
- 56:48Speaker 3: and then was pulled from the game. It was their
- 56:50Speaker 3: left tackle situation wasn't competitive throughout the entire game. Uh,
- 56:54Speaker 3: you know, Trey Hendrickson just had his way with whoever
- 56:57Speaker 3: was over there. I thought it was interesting that they
- 57:00Speaker 3: didn't really leave the tight end over there chip or
- 57:04Speaker 3: do anything to help them out either on some of
- 57:06Speaker 3: those plays. But that I think is part of the
- 57:09Speaker 3: reason why I'm like a little bit more pessimistic than
- 57:11Speaker 3: than maybe the panel here is just because they don't
- 57:14Speaker 3: have a left tackle, like they know that that was
- 57:16Speaker 3: not good enough in any stretch of the imagination. And
- 57:20Speaker 3: every week there's gonna be an edge rusher that they're
- 57:22Speaker 3: gonna go up against that can do that. You know,
- 57:24Speaker 3: this week it's Boie Mafi. You had nine pressures last
- 57:26Speaker 3: week against the Broncos, and then you know week forwards
- 57:30Speaker 3: you got Nick Bosa and the Jets have you know,
- 57:32Speaker 3: all their dudes, Like it's just gonna keep coming and
- 57:34Speaker 3: coming and coming, and that that's a real concern for
- 57:38Speaker 3: this team.
- 57:38Speaker 5: So I would say, as we move forward in the
- 57:42Speaker 5: show here, like if we're talking about down the road, yeah,
- 57:47Speaker 5: then there's some concerns, yes, because the offensive performance isn't
- 57:50Speaker 5: gonna be good enough.
- 57:51Speaker 4: To get it done most weeks.
- 57:53Speaker 5: But I'm just talking about what they did on Sunday,
- 57:58Speaker 5: and I'm you know, not taking it to the fred
- 58:00Speaker 5: level where I'm proud of them. But I think the
- 58:04Speaker 5: first game of the year, I made this comment. I
- 58:06Speaker 5: was talking to my buddy Mike Greece earlier. Right, there's
- 58:10Speaker 5: no such thing as perfect, right, You're always trying to
- 58:13Speaker 5: be perfect. But I don't recall a single practice that
- 58:17Speaker 5: they had that few amount of mistakes that I saw
- 58:20Speaker 5: on Sunday with the lights on in the first game
- 58:22Speaker 5: of the Mao era. Like again, I know they made
- 58:26Speaker 5: a lot of mistakes that probably didn't show up to me.
- 58:29Speaker 6: Evn't just said in six pass reps.
- 58:32Speaker 5: A corps four got beaten three times. Like, so those
- 58:34Speaker 5: are mistakes, right, Yeah, but I watched every practice, every
- 58:39Speaker 5: training camp practice, and there was a litany of mistakes
- 58:42Speaker 5: every day. They didn't have a lot of those that
- 58:45Speaker 5: were just like glaring for you to see, Like, what
- 58:48Speaker 5: do they have five penalties in the game? Two of
- 58:51Speaker 5: those at least on defense?
- 58:53Speaker 3: They had no.
- 58:53Speaker 2: Egregious twelve men on the field or you know, those
- 58:58Speaker 2: coaching penalties a lot of you know, they had.
- 59:02Speaker 5: I think they had one pre snat. I think they
- 59:03Speaker 5: have one fat pre snap.
- 59:05Speaker 2: No one was lined up in the backfield, although I'm
- 59:08Speaker 2: watching these other games and the reps are inconsistent with
- 59:11Speaker 2: that because I see guys lined up far at least
- 59:14Speaker 2: as much as uh, you know, in that last preseason game.
- 59:18Speaker 2: And so I don't know what they're judging this on.
- 59:20Speaker 5: Well so far, what I've seen is it's the hockeyley crew,
- 59:23Speaker 5: because they had the hockeyley crew for Washington and then
- 59:26Speaker 5: they had the opener and and they called it just
- 59:28Speaker 5: like they did in the Washington game.
- 59:30Speaker 2: Yeah, the league has to step in and do something
- 59:33Speaker 2: about that. I think it's just not right. You can't
- 59:36Speaker 2: have one squad calling it that way.
- 59:39Speaker 5: So I know you guys want to talk a little
- 59:40Speaker 5: bit about some of the other games too, Like we
- 59:42Speaker 5: got a chance to see those two kickoff games, you know, the.
- 59:44Speaker 6: Thursday and Friday.
- 59:46Speaker 5: Yeah, and I was really worried for what you were
- 59:48Speaker 5: talking about, just the amount of flags. And by the way,
- 59:52Speaker 5: Brazil not ready to host a game. But that's that's
- 59:55Speaker 5: just the field conditions alone. They're just like playing on
- 59:57Speaker 5: a skating rink. But the the amount of flags, I
- 1:00:01Speaker 5: was like, this is not It's not gonna be one
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: of those years where they're gonna come out and they're
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: gonna throw every flag for like four or five weeks
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: and then try to force everybody to conform. But then
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: it wasn't like that on Sunday, thank god. Yeah, Like
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: the Thursday and Friday games were especially the Friday game
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: was way too many penalties.
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: So that it was interesting. There were a couple blatant
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: hip drops and the one in Buffalo game too that
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: Josh Allen was apoplectic about. That They don't they don't
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: seem to be point of emphasizing that one like that
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: one just seems to be well.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: I also just don't feel like That's such a tough
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: one to officiate to me because you have to like
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: really know totally.
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: But those ones though were like I like, I totally
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: agreed like that coming in, but like these ones were
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: that's it right there. It's so clear as day. You know,
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: it's got what it's like, wrap them up, drop the
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: hips and you know, go into the legs. But I
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: don't know, it's just it's how they're.
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: Gonna callboy Josh protecting himself as as always.
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: So maybe if we about this like these are these
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: are some douce thoughts, some pretty hurt is Josh Allen
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: gonna have to take this whole thing onto himself again
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: because that's seems like the direction it's coming. Pointing.
- 1:01:03Speaker 6: They didn't let him the other day.
- 1:01:04Speaker 5: I mean, Joe Brady just said, you know, you throw
- 1:01:06Speaker 5: the ball when I tell you you have like twenty passes,
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: attempted more passes.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: Yeah, window closing in Buffalo, Well they won.
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: He scored four touchs. I mean he almost broke his
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: hand though, and like I mean, you know, it's like, yeah,
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: sustainable maybe like going on to the yeah, like hurtling over.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: No, he's had help this this season. It's going to
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: be all on his shoulders.
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: He's going to get hurt, just like it was n
- 1:01:29Speaker 5: you're predicting an injury, yes, okay, that's so much like
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: the Jets downfall will be because of an injury.
- 1:01:34Speaker 6: Sure, So that's two teams we're hoping.
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: They get hurt.
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: I don't know the Jets to meet Aaron Rodgers is on,
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: is on washed watch for me. That's like last night.
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: I was a little concern there, like he can still there,
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: he can still feather it.
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: Oh, he still kept the arm.
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: I don't know if he's got the drive. I don't
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: know if he can't the old driver.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: And I don't think he's too excited about extending plays,
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:01:57Speaker 5: Oh, I don't think he has the ability to do
- 1:01:59Speaker 5: that like you did. I mean, he's coming off of
- 1:02:01Speaker 5: torn achilles. That's not a significant injury.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: It's a little old to me.
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: It just it just looks like he's got Garret Wilson
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: and Briestall. I mean, I'm sure, like I respect what
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: they have.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: But so you attacked.
- 1:02:11Speaker 6: You got to get Mike Williams involved.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: You attacked a head as what's what is New Orleans defensive?
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: Coiners said back then, Greg Williams. Greg Williams to the head.
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: Oh, I wouldn't do that.
- 1:02:20Speaker 5: I like the new Jets uniforms better than those other
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: ones they just got off of. But them Rogers and
- 1:02:27Speaker 5: Wilson got these long sleeves.
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: It looks like clearly down here again.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: Garrett Wilson looked like what is this? He looked at
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: you like he had like Taekwon. Thornton was confused.
- 1:02:39Speaker 5: He was seventeen, right, he changed his number. Wilson went
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: to five five, he was seventeen.
- 1:02:44Speaker 7: No.
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: I was confused by that at first two and like
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: the team was on there fire line, like what's going on?
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: But I watched the I was telling Mike, I watched
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: the first drive and I had I told you I
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: had Garrett Wilson last year on my team, and four
- 1:02:55Speaker 5: plays into the season, I was like, that's what I
- 1:02:57Speaker 5: was thinking, right, It was like Garrett Wilson, Garrett Wilson,
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: San Francisco much said, picked it right back, going to
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: make someone else beat us?
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: Yeah, So Baltimore Kansas City, good game, two good teams.
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: They're gonna see each other again. Probably.
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: I mean, Mahomes is awesome. It's just that's it. But
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: I just I would say the same thing about Lamar
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: that I would say on Josh Allen. It's like, all
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: of a sudden, I just I got to do it
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: all myself. Guys. You know he's just throwing to what's
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: his face from Boston College.
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: I still don't see him operating traditionally enough. Like I
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: think he's great. I think Lamar Jackson is really great,
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: but so many of those runs just scrambles where he's
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: not finding someone, and he almost I mean it almost worked.
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: I mean he kept the team in the game. He
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: was great in the game, but then at the end
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: he missed a couple open guys. What do you guys
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: feel the big storyline that was what the two guys
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: throw for over three hundred yards this week?
- 1:03:55Speaker 4: Was that what the final number was? It was something
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: like that.
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: Yeah, it was really low.
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: One of them was my guy, and the league is
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: better with Baker Mayfield.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: Yeah, he did have a good game.
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: The passing in general, I should say, you know, as
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: much as I picked on the Patriots passing game, the
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: passing games in general across the league were pretty poor
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: league wide, and some of it has to relate to
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: the fact that these guys don't do anything anymore in
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: the summer, you know, and there's no preseason reps anymore
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: for these guys, and like the passing game is all timing.
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: What was funny is we had Jeff Hobson on in
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: the pregame from Cincinnati Bengals dot Com, and he said
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: that Burrow actually did play in the preseason, which is rare,
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: Like he hasn't done anything in the po he's been hurt. Yeah,
- 1:04:39Speaker 5: but now I think it was the first game and
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: then they went they went one series, They went right
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: down the field like an eighty yard drive for a touchdown,
- 1:04:46Speaker 5: and everything looked great. But he looked like he hadn't
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: played at all. And a lot of these other guys
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: that didn't get many reps. I mean, obviously Rogers didn't
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: get any. He comes out first, drive right down the
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: field and then did nothing the rest of the game.
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: I mean, do you think we'll get to a place where,
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: like we go down to two preseason games and the
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: starters play, like, maybe not the whole game, but both games.
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: Would want to see my starts on the field.
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: But then they're gonna have to be You're gonna have
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: to be okay, with them being off for a couple
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: of weeks.
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: You know, yeah, I mean the Patriots.
- 1:05:18Speaker 6: So let me just say this one.
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: This game kind of because of how they handled Okay.
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: But you just spent the previous hour saying how bad
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: the offense was.
- 1:05:25Speaker 5: The passing game? Yeah, sure, like they played. The offense
- 1:05:29Speaker 5: was bad. The offense is, you know, coming out of
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: the gate slow.
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: The running numbers were huge across the league. Yeah right.
- 1:05:35Speaker 5: I mean I think I saw a stat today that
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: it was like the highest average rushing total per team
- 1:05:41Speaker 5: and like over over a decade.
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: Or something like that. So does that change Detroit? Detroit
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: ran it right down.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: I think teams are daring other teams to run.
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: I agreed.
- 1:05:52Speaker 6: I think that's what it is.
- 1:05:53Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: I think you're seeing so many of these two high
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: safety shells, you know, Fangio style defenses where you're too
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: high and you're rotating in and out of it after
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: the snap, and they just don't have the numbers in
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: the box and they're just saying run the ball, like
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: you're if you're going to run the ball, even if
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: you run it well, like the Patriots said, you're still
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: only going to score sixteen points. So at the end
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: of the day, We're still going to be in the
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: game even if you run it well.
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: And I think that might be something where your whole
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: starter is playing in the preseason comes into play because
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: now it's physical. You're getting worn down, you're missing tackles,
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: you know, and maybe some of those rushing totals are
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: getting inflated because guys aren't ready to deal with that physicality.
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: Definitely didn't seem like the Bengals defenses period.
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: Yeah, fifty three guys to a man.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: The rise up the Atlanta Falcons will be delayed at
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: least a week.
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: Oh yeah, one tough one.
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: So they did not play well.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: Arizona played pretty well in that game. I mean a
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: lot of people said they got dominant sleep on the Cardinals,
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: but they're gonna be able to score some points this year.
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: That some of the Marvin Harrison junior tape.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: Was, oh yes, yeah, people are down.
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: Not good.
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: Tough to see. They get Miami come back and beat Jacksonville.
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: I thought Jacksonville they was it seventeen nothing. They started
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: the game in fourteen nothing. Yeah, then Miami came back.
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: Flow was down seventeen I think no, Chicago was down
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: seventeen nothing.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: CJ. Stroud looking good. Joe think last year was a fluke,
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: you know, so he's gonna be good.
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: What I'm a blanket on the receiver's name, Nico Collins.
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: Another monster game from him, and then Tank Dell's back too,
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: and they look like. That's the thing that stood out
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: to me. And I mean I kind of said a
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: tongue in cheek after the Baltimore and Kansas City game,
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: but it was like, man, these teams just have so
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: many options with speed across the roster, and it's if
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: it's not that guy, it's this guy. And that I
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: think is just what the Patriots are trying to build
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: towards that.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: In the Kansas City game too, I mean that.
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: That guy jeezs shot out of a cannon.
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: Yeah, so I have a take that might be a
- 1:08:01Speaker 5: little different. And you talked about that Houston game. I'm
- 1:08:05Speaker 5: a little higher on the Colts than some people. I
- 1:08:08Speaker 5: think they showed why I feel like that. I think
- 1:08:11Speaker 5: that division is underrated. The AC self has a bad
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: team in Tennessee. I think the other three teams are
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: pretty good now. I don't know if there's a super
- 1:08:18Speaker 5: Bowl team in the division as a matter of fact,
- 1:08:20Speaker 5: I would say it's probably not. But I think Houston,
- 1:08:22Speaker 5: Indy and Jacksonville are pretty good.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: It's gonna be tough outs for every game they play.
- 1:08:26Speaker 5: Throw by Richardson was just I think was off balance,
- 1:08:31Speaker 5: Like just did you see it? What'd you think of it?
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: Of their throw?
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: Ridiculous?
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: Did you think it was fluky?
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: No?
- 1:08:39Speaker 5: I thought it was one of the greatest throws I've
- 1:08:42Speaker 5: ever seen.
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: Off his back foot sixty three yards and it's crazy.
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: I was told by somebody that it was a Hail
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: Mary and lucky fluke, a lucky fluke, And I'm like,
- 1:08:55Speaker 5: I guess I just that's what made it so amazing.
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: That's what it looked like. Maybe, but it wasn't.
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: But he hit the guy like he wasn't just throwing
- 1:09:03Speaker 5: that to anywhere, Like he like bought time and looked
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: downfield and.
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: Sought that guy.
- 1:09:08Speaker 6: It was Alc Peterce, your.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: Guy, one of my guys.
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: If he if he gets any sort of consistency to
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: his game, because his game it was just something on
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: nine like he's just got these splash plays like that
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: thro that are crazy. But then the rest of it,
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: it's just reminds me of Josh Allen a little bit
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: early on.
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: The Panthers are as advertised, probably they're probably the worst
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: team in the league at least or the Giants stable
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: on the hot seat.
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: Going to say it's either them.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: Dable is being questioned. I could tell from what I
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: saw those off season hard knocks he's not happy with
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: his situation.
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: Well, I was gonna say, Joe Shane, I'm like, I
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: started seeing people like, I don't know about this, Joe Shank,
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: I'm like, I could have told you. I want to say,
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: hard knocks, Like he just doesn't seem like they got
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: everybody pull in the same direction.
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: Yea, or just like he doesn't seem like locked in.
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: Joe Shane, like.
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: He's going to be a lot of finger pointing coming.
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: We'll just sign another running back and then one has
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: three touchdowns.
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: Huh.
- 1:10:08Speaker 5: Bill Belichick the next head coach of the Giants, he
- 1:10:10Speaker 5: could be.
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: I mean, any of these teams like that think they're close.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: Although Daniel Jones, I don't see how close full rebuild.
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: I like, if Buffalo lost this game last week and
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: they continue to lose, I could see Buffalo putting, you know,
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: ra A on the hot seat and I could see
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: them wanting Belichick building a new stadium. They need the marketing.
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: It's a short term fix. You're close with Josh Allen.
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: I thought I thought the window was closed.
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: No, but if Belichick comes, you open it up again.
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: But so they're not close. What so they're not close?
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: They are close, But as long as you have Josh Allen,
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: we're closed. But the windows closing because they're going to
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: put it all on him. They got nothing else and
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: they're not going to do it this.
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: Year the windows.
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: So the coach shouldn't go anywhere because they don't have
- 1:11:00Speaker 5: any ability to do games.
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: But they're going to be putting it all.
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: They would bring in bill for the marketing.
- 1:11:05Speaker 5: You can't the window can't be closed and the coaches
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: on the hot seat. You can't have both of those.
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: I think mcdermot's on the hot talking about personally, I
- 1:11:13Speaker 5: think the windows wide open, and if the coach doesn't
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: win games, he might.
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: What you say, but I think both can be true.
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: How it's not his fault that they lost all their players? Well,
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: I mean it is what it is, that's not the GM.
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: But they can also look why why haven't why haven't
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: we wanted to date.
- 1:11:34Speaker 5: Well, that's on him. But right now, if you if
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: you think the windows closed, it's not on the coach.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: Well, I think I think I think that if they don't.
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: I think that you if they don't do it done.
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: There, Like I think that Bill could be in play
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: because of their situation. They're close and you know they've
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: got Josh Allen and they're building a new stadium.
- 1:11:54Speaker 5: They're not close according to you. You think the window
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: is closed.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: The window was closed. They're not going to do it,
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: but they should be, Like, they should be close. That's
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: the point. They should be closed.
- 1:12:03Speaker 5: But the rest but they let a lot of personnel
- 1:12:06Speaker 5: go in the off season because they're resetting. It's a
- 1:12:09Speaker 5: little bit of a two thousand and nine ten Patriots.
- 1:12:13Speaker 5: They could be over and Buffalo. You can keep pretending
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: it it ain't.
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: They could be resetting with Bill Belichick all they're.
- 1:12:20Speaker 6: Doing right now.
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: I would not want that.
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: If I was a Bill Well, I would sign up
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: for like Bill Belichick doing a p S a halo
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: for like PSLs and like trying to sell seats in
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: the stadium and like, Hi, I'm Bill Belichick and a
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: new head coach of the Bell.
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: He doesn't have to do that. Those fans would go crazy.
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: If you don't want to go you don't think that,
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: you don't think so.
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: No, there's no party scene because I think that's kind
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: of like starting again. I wouldn't want to do that.
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: I wouldn't want to defensive minded coach with Josh Allen.
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: No way, Well you have a dator bring back tables.
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: Oh there you go, bring the band.
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: Back tables oc Bill Coke.
- 1:12:56Speaker 5: I'm not saying I'm just saying I kind of like
- 1:12:58Speaker 5: that a little bit more than you.
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: Yeah, kind of like it. My good job?
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: Is he changing his name to the washed Watson because
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: he's washed?
- 1:13:07Speaker 6: So there's another allegation against him.
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's four years old.
- 1:13:12Speaker 5: But still Cleveland's going to get there out yeah, yep, yeah, Cleveland's.
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: Going to get there right. This is what's going to happen.
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: I read the secret probation.
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: If it's as bad as people have explained it to me,
- 1:13:24Speaker 5: he's going to be out lf. This is going to
- 1:13:26Speaker 5: be something else that wasn't disclosed to them.
- 1:13:29Speaker 7: Ye.
- 1:13:29Speaker 6: And my guess is that that they got contract.
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: I thought there were times the other day like, first
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: of all, I don't care who was playing quarterback against
- 1:13:37Speaker 5: Dallas on Sunday.
- 1:13:39Speaker 4: Dallas was dominant defensively, part lines, especially.
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: Tom Brady circle Michael Parsons in the broadcast quite a few.
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: That's an easy one.
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: Every time he did, he'd make a play.
- 1:13:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I just wish that he would actually tell me
- 1:13:53Speaker 5: something that was happening about about We'll get to that,
- 1:13:57Speaker 5: But yeah, I thought, I don't think Watson looked good
- 1:14:01Speaker 5: in the game by any means, but I didn't necessarily
- 1:14:04Speaker 5: look at it. If he wasn't been, if he hasn't
- 1:14:06Speaker 5: been so thoroughly average since he went to Cleveland, I
- 1:14:08Speaker 5: don't I wouldn't be overly concerned. But I'm very concerned
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: if I'm a Browns fan, because it looks the same.
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: Yeah, but he got killed the other day.
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: There's some there's some whispers about that whole situation that
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: Kevin Stefanski is just not very pleased with the fact
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: that he has to hitch his wagon to Sean Watson.
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: And they felt offensively that they were better with the
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: other quarterbacks that they have been playing with, you know,
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: Perssette Joe.
- 1:14:33Speaker 5: Flacco's system is not conducive to watson skill. Yeah, and
- 1:14:37Speaker 5: then that when Alex van Pelt got fired. Yeah, and
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: I would say it now, if they're going to try
- 1:14:41Speaker 5: to run that system, that's not getting the most out
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: of him. Now you take away the tackles the other day.
- 1:14:47Speaker 6: That like both of them didn't play right.
- 1:14:49Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what happens when you play a good defensive
- 1:14:51Speaker 5: front and you have that's all backups up front.
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and it was great to see the Jets lose.
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: It was just great. But now they're they're they're different.
- 1:15:02Speaker 5: I mean, you know, Iraq playing all right, McCaffrey out though,
- 1:15:07Speaker 5: But I just I can't believe Brock pretty like, I
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: like he's a pretty good quote watch him, I hate
- 1:15:11Speaker 5: watching him and like.
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: He just makes plays.
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: But still on that stand on Brock pretty he's not
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: a good quarterback, I would say he's not good. He's
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: mid very average.
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: He's a good quarterback.
- 1:15:23Speaker 4: That's another turn that based off of throw that he makes.
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: The guys just streaking through a wide open zone and
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: he you know, and I honestly like, I honestly think
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: Paul could play first, Kyle Shanahan and tro for two fifty.
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: I think you're underrating Brock.
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: Do they run the thirty two he's good at what
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: he does. I don't think he does anything to elevate
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: that offense. I think he's a fact. I think he
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: reads the field well, and I think he's accurate. But
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: in terms of like actually making a play, I don't
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: think he does a single thing.
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: That helps that often.
- 1:15:51Speaker 5: I would say he's a little better than Evan makes
- 1:15:53Speaker 5: him out to be, but not a ton I wouldn't.
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: I'm not putting anything.
- 1:15:58Speaker 6: I don't compel to argue.
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: If I was a forty nine, if I was a
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: forty nine Er fan, I'd be very happy that brock
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: Proty is my quarterback.
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: If you were a forty nine Er fan, you would
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: want them to pay him fifty million dollars a year.
- 1:16:09Speaker 5: If you were a forty nine Ers fan, you would
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: say to myself, if I had my homes, I would.
- 1:16:12Speaker 4: I would have won for in a row.
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: Yeah right, all right, right over there, Let's get back
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: to our listeners on the TPX hotline. Oh that's a
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: that's a haunted mind.
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: Get that fix.
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: Seth is in Seattle. What's up, Seth? Are you jumping
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: out of a plane?
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: You're went boweling right now?
- 1:16:34Speaker 15: Not driving here?
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: I can think, Okay, better, Yes, much better.
- 1:16:39Speaker 15: Gotcha. I just had a kind of a good question.
- 1:16:42Speaker 16: I don't think, and I think you guys would agree
- 1:16:44Speaker 16: with me, that the way we won this week is
- 1:16:46Speaker 16: detainable throughout the year. But if it is, do you
- 1:16:51Speaker 16: think that man has the stones?
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: We lost you? You said, do you think that odd
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: mail has the stones? But we don't know what to do?
- 1:17:03Speaker 6: What something about Brissette?
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: We lost you?
- 1:17:06Speaker 6: Brissette was the last word I heard.
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: All Right, Yeah, thank you, Matt.
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: Sorry, Seth. Either call back or maybe you can even
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: email to the front of the line if you can
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: email us at web radio at pages dot com. Let's
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: go to Todd, North Carolina. What's up Todd?
- 1:17:21Speaker 17: Hey, guys, I just want to Paul. I know he
- 1:17:23Speaker 17: likes to bust my balls, but he did a really
- 1:17:25Speaker 17: nice thing for us in the post game. He basically
- 1:17:27Speaker 17: reminded us that we can enjoy these wings. We don't
- 1:17:30Speaker 17: have to say, oh my god, look they didn't they
- 1:17:32Speaker 17: weren't good enough this, They weren't good enough that I'd
- 1:17:33Speaker 17: just enjoy it.
- 1:17:35Speaker 8: I think we've forgotten that.
- 1:17:36Speaker 17: I think we've ben boiled a lot and we just
- 1:17:39Speaker 17: don't remember to enjoy anythings. I just wanted to shout
- 1:17:41Speaker 17: out Paul. That was the reason for call thanks guys.
- 1:17:43Speaker 9: Rachel.
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: Was that your your big message after the game, let's
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: enjoy this?
- 1:17:49Speaker 6: And I didn't hear most of what he said.
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: I can't.
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: I didn't understand he said.
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: He said, like we've forgotten how to just enjoy games
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: because we were spoiled. But now I think he said
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: that after the game, you led that chant like let's
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: just enjoy this and not worry about next week? Is
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: was that your message to the fans, Mike, I don't know.
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: I don't remember. I don't remember you going to like
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: camera one, and you know I didn't do it. I
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: definitely didn't do fred. I think that's a free game.
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: I did a fred.
- 1:18:14Speaker 5: I asked for my one, okay, and I dressed addressed
- 1:18:17Speaker 5: the camera.
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: It's okay. He broke the wall.
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: I would just say that my postgame show. And I
- 1:18:23Speaker 5: was laughing with Mike as we were walking to the
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: parking lot. I was like, I literally didn't have one
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: negative thing to say, and I didn't have to like
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: stretch it to avoid like I was really impressed and
- 1:18:34Speaker 5: I understand everything long term, like the way I think
- 1:18:38Speaker 5: Todd said sustainable something like that. I totally agree with
- 1:18:40Speaker 5: all of that, but on Sunday, maybe I just found
- 1:18:44Speaker 5: it such a surprise that they played so efficiently and
- 1:18:48Speaker 5: effectively that I was overlooking, you know, you know the
- 1:18:53Speaker 5: warts that are obviously there. They only had sixteen points, and.
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: Yeah, one.
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: Preseason was it was not good.
- 1:19:01Speaker 5: And I even had and I have to be honest,
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: like I even had some reservations defensively.
- 1:19:07Speaker 6: And they were you know.
- 1:19:10Speaker 5: That doesn't mean I thought they had a bad defense.
- 1:19:12Speaker 5: Which that was another comment that we got over the weekend, Like,
- 1:19:15Speaker 5: and it wasn't directed to me. It was like the
- 1:19:17Speaker 5: media in general, because you know, all the media for
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: the most part picked Cincinnati in this game. So that
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: means that what we saw in training camp was wrong, right,
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: because the media doesn't know what they're watching. This is
- 1:19:29Speaker 5: what those guys told us. There was a lot of
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: that yesterday, a lot of blind yeah you know, but
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: blaring blimbing because I picked the Bengals to win, Yeah
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: I did. But the whole like notion that all the
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: media that watched training camp practices doesn't know what they
- 1:19:46Speaker 5: were talking about. They were wrong because they played I
- 1:19:49Speaker 5: think at a level that they never ever showed it once,
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: not one time before maybe, but before Sunday. They never
- 1:19:57Speaker 5: looked like that for not even like half hour in
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: training camp practice any of the preseason games.
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: Certainly not the joint practice, the.
- 1:20:05Speaker 6: Joint practice met against Boys.
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: Well, I think it's tough to tell you know about
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: the Patriots defense because the offense has such a long
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: way to go. That is the defense just dominating a
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: bad offense in practice or his defense actually no.
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: One's tackling defense.
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: The defense was so good in the game on Sunday.
- 1:20:22Speaker 5: I didn't expect it to be that good. Now, in retrospect,
- 1:20:25Speaker 5: maybe I underestimated the personnel losses. I didn't think it
- 1:20:29Speaker 5: would be that big of a deal because I thought
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: Zach Taylor might actually try to move the ball in
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: a different way.
- 1:20:35Speaker 6: He didn't.
- 1:20:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I think the Patriots game plan Covington like, this
- 1:20:40Speaker 5: is the way he talked was the last Thursday we
- 1:20:42Speaker 5: talked to him. Yeah, he talked a big game and
- 1:20:44Speaker 5: he brought it, He backed it up. He was very confident.
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: He came across to me as being very confident in
- 1:20:50Speaker 5: what they were doing, and that absolutely came through with
- 1:20:55Speaker 5: their game plan and their execution.
- 1:20:57Speaker 6: On Sunday they were dominant.
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: I do wonder how much to you know, this is
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: one thing I want to keep in mind about this. Uh,
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: their coaching staff on the offensive side of the ball
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: had a ton of familiarity with this Bengals team from
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: being in Cleveland. And I do wonder how much of
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: that was a VP going into Covington's office and being like,
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: these are the three things that they're going to try
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: to do right.
- 1:21:16Speaker 5: It's funny if that happened, a v P had a
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: bigger impact on the defense than.
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I excited.
- 1:21:25Speaker 6: That's that's plausible.
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, and I I think it's possible that that
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: is what happened. But I had concerns about the defense
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: because of the players that they lost, you know, Judaan
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: and bar Moore. But I I really didn't think that
- 1:21:40Speaker 3: losing Bill was going to be that big of a
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: deal on the defensive.
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: Side of the ball. I did and in one week
- 1:21:46Speaker 4: maybe somebody else can.
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: I just think the biggest thing was that both these guys,
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: Covington and Mayo have been learning from Bill for how
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: long now, And I think that sometimes a younger and
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: fresher set of on something can can actually make it better.
- 1:22:02Speaker 4: I'll tell you.
- 1:22:03Speaker 5: One thing I was worried about in that regard, though,
- 1:22:05Speaker 5: was that how many times they kept telling us this
- 1:22:07Speaker 5: is new, we're doing it different.
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: Just do it.
- 1:22:11Speaker 5: They did something that Bill would have done. That's the
- 1:22:13Speaker 5: way that Bill would have done that. That's like, this
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: is funny, We're going to get to this properly?
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: Is doing it right? You know, you don't argue with success.
- 1:22:22Speaker 5: The one i'd be very curious to see, and unfortunately
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: Pat McAfee didn't. Didn't agree with us what Bill thought,
- 1:22:31Speaker 5: what Bill's impressions were of the game, you know, And
- 1:22:33Speaker 5: you know, Pat McAfee didn't ask any questions to Bill.
- 1:22:37Speaker 5: I wonder how, I wonder why, so I I just
- 1:22:41Speaker 5: would you know what Bill. My gut feeling is Bill
- 1:22:44Speaker 5: would have been like, well, yeah, that's that's kind of
- 1:22:46Speaker 5: what we all know. That's that's why we drafted Kyle Dugger.
- 1:22:49Speaker 5: And you know, that's why I brought in Gabrill Peppers,
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: you know, and you know those guys, the versatility they
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: have back there. Jonathan Joseph perfect, But I drafted I'm
- 1:22:58Speaker 5: really proud of the first. Yeah, like I think that
- 1:23:01Speaker 5: that's I think he looks at a game like that,
- 1:23:03Speaker 5: and he's like, yeah.
- 1:23:04Speaker 6: I did that, Yeah, all those guys.
- 1:23:06Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean Lombardi already went on a tirade about
- 1:23:08Speaker 5: two weeks ago about well they just all they did
- 1:23:10Speaker 5: was retain all of the guys that were there.
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean he's right though, like they I'm not
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: saying he said that, but like this game plan was
- 1:23:17Speaker 3: basically what they did in twenty two, except they just
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: had Gonzales to when they wanted to man up against Chase,
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: they had a guy that was better suited for that.
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: But the rest of the buttons that they pressed were
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: the same as the twenty twenty two match.
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: My question is why why couldn't you get your team
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: to do that anymore? Then, Like, why couldn't you get
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: your team to play a special team's performance like they did?
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: Answer special team that's coperate thing.
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: But yeah, the team.
- 1:23:38Speaker 5: Well, I would say, like a couple of things that
- 1:23:40Speaker 5: are you know, say, we're you know, we're getting into
- 1:23:42Speaker 5: the second half of the show.
- 1:23:43Speaker 6: So like I think we gave them their flowers.
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, so you said he had nothing negative.
- 1:23:49Speaker 5: I don't have anything negative to say about the team.
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: This is about the reaction to the game that suddenly
- 1:23:53Speaker 5: now okay, you know, it's like, well, they just played harder,
- 1:23:58Speaker 5: Like did they not play hard against Philadelphia coming out
- 1:24:00Speaker 5: of the gates last year? Of course when they had
- 1:24:02Speaker 5: the ball at the end of the game with a
- 1:24:03Speaker 5: chance to win, despite.
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: They just played harder than they did last year.
- 1:24:06Speaker 6: Yeah, they didn't. They laid down for Bill.
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: That's ridiculous.
- 1:24:09Speaker 5: They laid down for Bill and they're playing for Mayo.
- 1:24:11Speaker 5: They weren't running through walls form like I thought they
- 1:24:13Speaker 5: played really hard yesterday, I mean Sunday, and I thought
- 1:24:17Speaker 5: to start the year. Last year, I thought they put
- 1:24:20Speaker 5: a really good effort against Philadelphia. They just were sloppy
- 1:24:23Speaker 5: and turned the ball over and gave Philadelphia too many
- 1:24:26Speaker 5: points for them to dig out of that hole. But
- 1:24:28Speaker 5: I never felt like they stopped rowing the boat. I'm
- 1:24:31Speaker 5: talking about in the Oprah, I'm not talking about for
- 1:24:33Speaker 5: the season, you know. And a lot of people credited
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: Bill with keeping them playing hard despite the record being
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: what it was. They won two of their games down
- 1:24:42Speaker 5: the stretch. I would argue with that a little bit.
- 1:24:45Speaker 5: But against Philadelphia, I thought they played with a with
- 1:24:49Speaker 5: a passion and you know, with a purpose, And suddenly
- 1:24:54Speaker 5: now they're playing harder for this guy than they did
- 1:24:56Speaker 5: that guy. Peppers had nothing believable. But what did he
- 1:25:01Speaker 5: say about Belichick? Like he went on and on and
- 1:25:04Speaker 5: on about playing for him.
- 1:25:06Speaker 4: I don't know about the effort part of it, but
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: it's just the proof is in the pudding. And like
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: I feel like Bill should have looked at this game
- 1:25:11Speaker 4: and been like, why couldn't I get this out of
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: this team? Like it's not that different of a team.
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: Why couldn't Why did?
- 1:25:16Speaker 5: This is where it get But this is where it
- 1:25:18Speaker 5: gets back to it, like the fine line why because
- 1:25:22Speaker 5: last year it was one of those things where it's snowballed.
- 1:25:25Speaker 5: The pass in the end zone would have been picked,
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: not dropped. The fumble that Stevenson had would have been
- 1:25:29Speaker 5: recovered by the Bengals not the Patriots. Like that's the
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: fine line. Everything they did would have been the same,
- 1:25:36Speaker 5: and they could have lost. They've had a hard time
- 1:25:38Speaker 5: winning that game recently with Bill. I think they're zero
- 1:25:41Speaker 5: to five the previous five games. If they didn't score
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: twenty points or something like that, I saw it sounds right.
- 1:25:48Speaker 3: I just feel like they they they did play that
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: game though, like twenty twenty two was all that game.
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: They just lost them?
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: Yeah, are they In twenty twenty two they won eight
- 1:25:57Speaker 3: games playing that like that way?
- 1:26:00Speaker 5: This is my I guess, this is what I'm pushing
- 1:26:02Speaker 5: back at. And listen, it was time for Bill to go.
- 1:26:04Speaker 5: There was nobody that had less interesting retaining Bill than
- 1:26:08Speaker 5: me by the end. But that's how they wanted to
- 1:26:11Speaker 5: win all the games. That's why I didn't want him
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: here anymore. I don't think you can win consistently seventeen thirteen.
- 1:26:18Speaker 5: That's what Bill wants to do. And they had a
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: lot of games that played just the way that game
- 1:26:24Speaker 5: it did on Sunday only they lost. Yeah, ten to seven, sure,
- 1:26:28Speaker 5: ten to six, six, nothing like. There's a million games
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: just like that.
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: Bill in DC wants to know about the fumble about
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: with Burrow, whether or not it should have been a fumble,
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: and we were talking before the.
- 1:26:42Speaker 4: FRED you had something on.
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: Well, no, I my career. I think the rule is
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: that when a player gives himself up, even whether he
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: slides feet first or head first, that as the moment
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: he's touched, regardless of where, even if it's you know,
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: the ball itself, that he down right.
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: Well, I think the question would be does touching the ball?
- 1:27:04Speaker 5: You know, there's that constitute being done.
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: This ball part of the human right, and I.
- 1:27:08Speaker 5: Think it is he was his knee was down when
- 1:27:12Speaker 5: Bentley knocked the ball out. Therefore it's not a fumble.
- 1:27:16Speaker 5: Now if he dives head first and just loses the
- 1:27:19Speaker 5: ball on his own, I think that is a fumble.
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: Of course it is.
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: Yeah, he's not contacted him.
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: You yep. Jared in Vermont. I like the spot for
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: the Patriots against the Seahawks. We've got a good chance
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: of being two and oh, and teams that start two
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: and oh historically make the playoffs about seventy five percent
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: of the time. Just saying let's go.
- 1:27:39Speaker 3: I know we're not doing Seahawks today necessarily, but I
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: just I'm not finger wagging anybody, but they're West Coast team.
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: They usually play in that four o'clock when I don't
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: feel like a lot of people around here like watch
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: the Seahawks religiously. I don't know if that's going out
- 1:27:56Speaker 3: on a limb by saying that, because like Seattle was
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: basically a playoff team last year that missed out on,
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: you know, the playoffs by a couple of bounces. Here
- 1:28:06Speaker 3: or there. Yeah, and then the year before they were
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: in the playoffs, and I don't know, like that Seahawks team,
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: I think is a little bit better. I get that
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: they're traveling west, you know, west to east and all
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: that kind of stuff. But I went and sleep on
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: the Seahawks.
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: You stack them up, I mean, they got they got
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: talent all over them.
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:28:22Speaker 5: So, yeah, they lack talent at the most important spot,
- 1:28:28Speaker 5: and that's to me what holds them back. But the
- 1:28:31Speaker 5: one o'clock thing, to me, it's the same as like, well,
- 1:28:35Speaker 5: the Jets are gonna Jets it. Well, why well, you know,
- 1:28:38Speaker 5: Anon Rodgers all get hurt. Okay, maybe he will, maybe
- 1:28:41Speaker 5: he will, and that'll derail the season relying on the
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: other team coming in the one o'clock window on the
- 1:28:48Speaker 5: East Coast. But that's why we're gonna win, Okay. I
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: wish we had something else like football.
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: By the way, if somebody told me this morning, the
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: Seahawks and the forty nine ers have some of the
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: best records going to the East Coast because both teams
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: always come a day early.
- 1:29:04Speaker 18: So.
- 1:29:06Speaker 5: Come on Thursday Friday, because virtually all teams come on
- 1:29:09Speaker 5: Friday from the West Coast.
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: I don't know, that's what That's what I was told.
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: Pete Carroll always had his team come in early and
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: they had a really a decent record going to the.
- 1:29:18Speaker 6: I don't have the numbers on it. It doesn't seem to.
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: Me to be as big a deal as it used
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: to be. Probably things like that.
- 1:29:25Speaker 3: There's a big betting angle back in the day, right
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: that the West Coast team coming east. But they have
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: a Their defensive scheme with McDonald now is aggressive. They
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: fly to the ball just like the Patriots do offensively,
- 1:29:37Speaker 3: they have weapons, Like, that's not a team that oh
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: it's a good spot. I don't really think it's a
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: great spot.
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: Can I get back to the Okay, hold on Seth?
- 1:29:48Speaker 5: So it is like, yeah, hold on, let's go to Seth.
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: All right, cpx houtline. Seth is back? What's up?
- 1:29:57Speaker 15: So sorry about that?
- 1:30:00Speaker 8: Us off.
- 1:30:01Speaker 15: If we are you know, mid season, week nine, week
- 1:30:03Speaker 15: ten or whatever, and we're you know, six two, seven
- 1:30:07Speaker 15: to two, eight to two, whatever, do you think that
- 1:30:11Speaker 15: Gerd Mayo has the backbone to fit in his like
- 1:30:18Speaker 15: fate you season?
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean if it's yeah, if there if there's
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: six and two and they're winning games, you know, thirteen
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: to ten, I think he would.
- 1:30:27Speaker 5: I don't if there's six and two, he ain't taken percent.
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: It's a hard move, hard move to make.
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: But again, like, if the offense looks like it did
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: yes on Sunday, how much better will it look with
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: this first round pick?
- 1:30:40Speaker 5: Well, how much worse could it look if he turns
- 1:30:42Speaker 5: the ball over? Well, but that's like's not going to
- 1:30:45Speaker 5: be putting him in because you.
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: Think you I know, but you're putting him in because
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: you think he's ready. So instead of scoring thirteen points,
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: maybe he does have some turnovers, but you're scoring twenty eight.
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: You know, well, I mean, if you're a new defense
- 1:30:56Speaker 4: is still good?
- 1:30:57Speaker 6: I mean, I hope you're right. I don't think you.
- 1:31:00Speaker 5: I don't think there's anyway At eight and two he's
- 1:31:02Speaker 5: making a quarterback chance. And then what happens if you
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: go two and five with men missed the players?
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: Well, yeah, you know, but that's the gamble.
- 1:31:11Speaker 4: I just.
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: It worries me a little bit that this is their
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: their formula. And I know Paul talks about this a lot.
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: I agree with him one hundred percent. The formula is
- 1:31:25Speaker 3: he's coming out and telling the whole world. He says,
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: I don't give an f if I tell you that
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: we're going to run the ball, we're running the ball. Okay,
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: that that's fine. But if you're going to run the ball,
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: then you want to be like one of these teams
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: like the forty nine Ers that creates explosive plays off
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: the running game, right, you know that's that's that's how
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: the teams that run the ball a lot win the Lions,
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: the forty nine ers, teams like that. He's also, you know,
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: it seems like they're pretty content with the game that
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: Jacoby Brissett played on Sunday. Didn't turn the ball over,
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: manage the situation, manage the spot, manage the game great,
- 1:31:58Speaker 3: Like how many games can you Realistically, I'm thrilled at
- 1:32:02Speaker 3: they won on Sunday, But for me, I you know,
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: I was there after the game playing ride home all that.
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: We're onto Seattle now right like and you turn on
- 1:32:10Speaker 3: the tape with the Seahawks. They scored twenty six points
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: against the Broncos last week, bo Nicks had the lowest
- 1:32:18Speaker 3: total EPA in the league. He threw two picks. Was
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: kind of terrible in the game.
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: It was really bad. I watched a good pustion of
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: that game.
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: And and now you have these other teams coming in here,
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: and it's just that's gonna be your plan. As We're
- 1:32:31Speaker 3: gonna run the piss out of the ball, we're not
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: gonna turn it over, we're not gonna beat ourselves, we're
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: gonna play good defense, and we're gonna win sixty.
- 1:32:37Speaker 5: I think they could They could win that that way
- 1:32:39Speaker 5: again in this game, unless Seattle does something in the
- 1:32:43Speaker 5: passing game that they haven't really seemed willing to do.
- 1:32:46Speaker 6: That's why I think Kenneth Walker is huge in this game.
- 1:32:50Speaker 2: Kyle and pembroke right saying, if the Patriots are five
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: hundred at the trade deadline and the T Higgins situation
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: doesn't get better in Cincy, would you make a move
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: for him or or are we still waiting on the
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: offseason to.
- 1:33:02Speaker 6: Not unless I can get a contract with them now, No, don'kay.
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: With the draft with receivers, I just it's just it
- 1:33:10Speaker 4: gets confirmed every year that people come out. It's you know, low,
- 1:33:14Speaker 4: first round, second round, speed game changing kind of guys.
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: And I just look at Kansas City and they don't
- 1:33:21Speaker 4: They might never have to pay a wide receiver again.
- 1:33:22Speaker 4: As long as they got Patrick Mahomes, just keep doing
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: what you're doing, cycle them through every year, get a
- 1:33:27Speaker 4: new one, work them into the system, and then when
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: that guy wants to get paid, goodbye.
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:33:32Speaker 5: I mean, I think the Kelsey part of it is
- 1:33:34Speaker 5: is I would really like I think if if Worthy
- 1:33:37Speaker 5: is you know, obviously it's one game, but if Worthy
- 1:33:40Speaker 5: is good, BB and Rice is good, I would get
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: those both of those guys signed.
- 1:33:47Speaker 4: I wouldn't even I wouldn't screw around. I don't.
- 1:33:50Speaker 6: I don't think you could just get anybody to do it.
- 1:33:53Speaker 4: I wouldn't.
- 1:33:54Speaker 5: I wouldn't roll the dice. That's what Pittsburgh would do.
- 1:33:57Speaker 5: Pittsburgh would just let the guys go and just keep
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: trying to fix it.
- 1:34:01Speaker 4: That way. I just feel like the quarterback's the guy,
- 1:34:03Speaker 4: and if you've got the quarterback, how sky make sure
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: you got him?
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: He was terrible.
- 1:34:07Speaker 4: But it doesn't matter like they're.
- 1:34:09Speaker 5: Like they've tried like that. It's not every guy they've
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: drafted high. Those guys were high draft picks, second round guys,
- 1:34:16Speaker 5: and they didn't work.
- 1:34:17Speaker 6: This didn't matter, did it matter for the the thing?
- 1:34:21Speaker 5: Well, when those guys were second round picks, they still
- 1:34:23Speaker 5: had Tyreek Hill, That's why it didn't matter. But they
- 1:34:26Speaker 5: wanted these guys specifically, they wanted Hardman to replace tyreek Hill.
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: It didn't work like Rashid Rice is good. That's why
- 1:34:35Speaker 5: it's working.
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: You're a guy, is my guy?
- 1:34:37Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: And Jolly from Connecticut longtime listener, first time email are
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: super surprised and happy to see the win. On Sunday,
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: I saw a stat that over one hundred of Remandre's
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: yards came after contact, and I know that Evan wrote
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: about it a bit. How did you guys think the
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: old line performed, specifically Leyden Robinson.
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: So I'm glad that we brought this up because Paul
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: and I were talking about this a little bit earlier today.
- 1:35:03Speaker 3: The yards after contact numbers to me in this game.
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: And I'm not taking anything away from Hermandre. I mean
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: I gave him a you know, my gold star, right,
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: He's terrific in the game. They were a little deceiving
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: in this game because any little bit of contact is
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: considered yards after contact. Like if he's going through the
- 1:35:24Speaker 3: hole and a defensive lineman sticks his hand down and
- 1:35:27Speaker 3: on the way by, he like slaps him on the
- 1:35:29Speaker 3: way by. Now all of a sudden, he's gaining yards
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: after contact from that point on. That is what I
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: saw a lot of was arm tackles or guys just
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: like kind of reaching out and tapping him or something
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: like that. And you know, he runs with great contact,
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: balance and great power. It's two hundred and twenty seven pounds,
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: Like he's not gonna get brought down by an arm tackle.
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: Like you're gonna have to come and run your feet
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: through to get him down. So those plays, to me,
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: are the numbers are a little bit deceiving. Like I
- 1:35:58Speaker 3: think they blocked pretty well.
- 1:35:59Speaker 5: I thought early the game there were a couple of
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: runs by Stevenson that I saw some holes. Now I
- 1:36:04Speaker 5: didn't think they were great throughout the game, and I
- 1:36:07Speaker 5: thought a lot of what he got to ice the
- 1:36:09Speaker 5: game was on his own. But I agree with Evan,
- 1:36:11Speaker 5: I just not every time a guy makes contact with
- 1:36:15Speaker 5: the ball carrier, should that be yards after contact? Right,
- 1:36:18Speaker 5: Like I don't think there were a lot of realistic
- 1:36:21Speaker 5: tackles that were missed, you know what I mean. Like,
- 1:36:24Speaker 5: I think at the end of the game, when it's
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: the first time, the first first play, they got five yards,
- 1:36:30Speaker 5: then second and five and they run a run blitz
- 1:36:34Speaker 5: with I think it was Hilton, your guy, Mike Hilton.
- 1:36:36Speaker 6: You said, didn't you say?
- 1:36:37Speaker 5: Like he just looked like he knew he wasn't gonna
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: make the place ned lights, that's dead to rights, that's
- 1:36:44Speaker 5: yards after contact, that tackle needs to be.
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: There was one play at midfield I thought he was
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: Stevenson was stopped after three yards. He ended up getting seven,
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: but they were like seven well earned.
- 1:36:55Speaker 5: Yards and it was a lot of that. I mean,
- 1:36:58Speaker 5: I know the numbers one eighteen, kind of agree with Evan.
- 1:37:01Speaker 5: I didn't feel like the line was that bad. Now
- 1:37:04Speaker 5: pass protection, it's a different story.
- 1:37:06Speaker 3: They were running a lot of duo with double teams
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: on the inside, and Remondre is just kind of reading
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: the second level and wherever the linebackers go, he's gonna go.
- 1:37:16Speaker 4: At the end of the game.
- 1:37:17Speaker 6: Yes, that post game, I should say, at the end
- 1:37:19Speaker 6: of the game. Post game.
- 1:37:23Speaker 5: I thought it was interesting that he made that that
- 1:37:26Speaker 5: comment about reminder.
- 1:37:29Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, they they they're outside zone. Is still not
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: very good.
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: I think that's really his skill set or the line
- 1:37:38Speaker 5: skill set either.
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: Uh. And then they started running duo or gap as
- 1:37:42Speaker 3: as they would call it, and that's it's just man
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: on man like double teams and just blow guys off
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: the ball.
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: Uh yeah, football hat on hat, football iron sharpens.
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: And the big thing is with those is like if
- 1:37:56Speaker 3: you if the line is resetting, like if you're moving
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage, that's the offensive line doing its job,
- 1:38:04Speaker 3: and then Remandre has got to do the rest, right, Like,
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: if they're getting the guys to three yards down the field,
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: then it's up to Remondre to turn that three yards
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: into seven, eight, nine, ten yards. And he was doing
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: that to his credit, but the line got him going,
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: like he's he's getting downhill and then he becomes a
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: lot harder to tackle.
- 1:38:21Speaker 2: We're firing off.
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: It kind of cracked me up last night watching the
- 1:38:24Speaker 4: San Francisco game and they were, you know, giving Mike
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: Shanahan Kyle Shanahan their flowers for all of the undrafted
- 1:38:30Speaker 4: and low rated running backs that had success in their system,
- 1:38:34Speaker 4: in this wily system, and it's it just was kind
- 1:38:36Speaker 4: of ironic to me that you've got a player like
- 1:38:38Speaker 4: Rimandre who is definitely very talented, but he can't run
- 1:38:43Speaker 4: outside zone. But meanwhile they're like, well, we can find
- 1:38:45Speaker 4: any undrafted rookie to go play for Mike Shanahan and
- 1:38:47Speaker 4: Mike Anderson or you know, Orlandis Gary or any of
- 1:38:50Speaker 4: these guys can just walk in and have a thousand yards.
- 1:38:52Speaker 4: I mean, I guess, I guess what the answer is
- 1:38:54Speaker 4: I'm talking. I realized it is that once you have
- 1:38:56Speaker 4: the place with the offensive line, then it maybe matters
- 1:38:58Speaker 4: a whole lot less how good those guys actually are,
- 1:39:01Speaker 4: if they're the right type of guys who can just bang.
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: U guy for the forty nine ers last night? What
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: was his name?
- 1:39:06Speaker 6: Yeah, Matt, listen to what he just said.
- 1:39:09Speaker 4: I didn't know what his name, but he's pretty good
- 1:39:11Speaker 4: at his job. He's got a new hat thought.
- 1:39:17Speaker 2: So, I mean, come on.
- 1:39:18Speaker 5: My favorite one was so I saw a clip online.
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: There's one of those football coaches and Twitter. I forget
- 1:39:24Speaker 5: his name, but he's like, more teams should run uh,
- 1:39:29Speaker 5: more teams should use full backs, you know, and they
- 1:39:31Speaker 5: show like you Check catching a you know, a wheel
- 1:39:34Speaker 5: and uh and Lombardi jumps in and be under center.
- 1:39:37Speaker 5: Like yeah, if I had Kyle us Chick too, I
- 1:39:39Speaker 5: would run a lot of two back stuff.
- 1:39:42Speaker 6: Kyle us Check is an excellent football player, like not.
- 1:39:45Speaker 5: Everybody has a full bell like that play doesn't look
- 1:39:48Speaker 5: the same if Yaka Johnson is running the wheel route,
- 1:39:50Speaker 5: I'm sorry it won't.
- 1:39:51Speaker 4: It's such a unique player it's hard to comp.
- 1:39:53Speaker 3: Can we have Jahim Bell do it? Because I'm in
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: on that john.
- 1:39:56Speaker 6: If he has that kind of skill set.
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: Sure, Yeah, I'm in on Brendan and Philly writes in
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: I'm of two minds about the game on Sunday two.
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: The downside is that I feel we might have peaked.
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: We look like the less talent that's the Boston We
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: look like the less talented team, at least on offense,
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: and I don't imagine seeing much improvement offensively as the
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: season progresses. Plus, we have now decreased our chances of
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: earning a super high draft pick and getting Will Campbell,
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: who would surely resolve at least some of the issues
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: on offense. That said, I would rather be a bad
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: team that plays hard, plays together, and has a sense
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: of who they are than a bad team that beats
- 1:40:35Speaker 2: themselves and makes stupid decisions. For as much as we've
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: moved on, this looked like a stereotypical Belichick coach team
- 1:40:42Speaker 2: where everyone was on the same page. In limited mistakes.
- 1:40:46Speaker 2: Even our offense, which as I mentioned above didn't really
- 1:40:49Speaker 2: impress me, clearly has a plan and knows how to
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: go about it. I got to respect that. Though it's
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: only one game. I'm encouraged for the future of this
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: team under Mayo.
- 1:41:00Speaker 3: Encouraging part offensively just to be glass half full because
- 1:41:03Speaker 3: I've been a little empty on the offense. Is that
- 1:41:06Speaker 3: if you put a quarterback in there, Drake may who
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: is a little bit more dynamic as a thrower in
- 1:41:12Speaker 3: an athlete, then the passing game, the opportunities that I
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: saw in the film in the passing game, now maybe
- 1:41:19Speaker 3: you're making more of those, the most of those opportunities
- 1:41:22Speaker 3: a little bit more often, like Jacobe's is doing his
- 1:41:25Speaker 3: job and did exactly what they asked him of him
- 1:41:27Speaker 3: on Sunday, And that next step is going to obviously
- 1:41:30Speaker 3: getting Drake in there, and you hope that maybe he
- 1:41:32Speaker 3: can take the offense. You know, I thought Jalen Polk
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: got open a decent amount in this game. I didn't
- 1:41:37Speaker 3: get the ball like. There's little things like that that
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: maybe a more dynamic quarterback comes in down the road
- 1:41:42Speaker 3: and livens it up a little bit.
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: He was the one like I feel like, you know, May,
- 1:41:46Speaker 4: especially with Baker, May just seemed totally willing to chuck
- 1:41:48Speaker 4: the ball down to him a little bit. But I
- 1:41:50Speaker 4: feel like he played a lot more with Polk, and
- 1:41:52Speaker 4: I didn't really remember as much of Brissette playing with
- 1:41:55Speaker 4: Polk a little bit towards the end when he started
- 1:41:56Speaker 4: to get in. But part of me just wondered if
- 1:41:59Speaker 4: Set really have a comfort level yet with Polk yet
- 1:42:02Speaker 4: or I mean, I don't know something that May had.
- 1:42:04Speaker 4: It just seemed like May was willing to throw it
- 1:42:06Speaker 4: up to Baker. He had that trust, he wanted to
- 1:42:08Speaker 4: establish that trust with him. Yeah, Bood he didn't play
- 1:42:11Speaker 4: at all either, which I thought it was a little
- 1:42:12Speaker 4: bit interesting. Just didn't get a snap.
- 1:42:14Speaker 3: Yeah, there was one play from the high red zone
- 1:42:16Speaker 3: Jalen Polk just like dust this guy off the line
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: of scrimmage and you've been open for a touchdown. But
- 1:42:21Speaker 3: you know, usually in the in the progression, in that read,
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: it's like you have to really love that matchup pre
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: snap and like start with your eyes there pre snap
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: to go there with the football. Like those are the
- 1:42:31Speaker 3: types of one on ones that Drake tends to gravitate.
- 1:42:33Speaker 3: Towards maybe a little bit more than Jacoby. You know,
- 1:42:35Speaker 3: Jacoby starts with his eyes in the middle of the
- 1:42:37Speaker 3: field and is kind of going through the progression. I
- 1:42:40Speaker 3: could see Drake starting on Polk there and being like,
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: I'm just gonna take the shot here if he wins
- 1:42:47Speaker 3: off the line of scrimmage like he did. But I
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: thought Polk won on some routes, you know, maybe four
- 1:42:51Speaker 3: or five times that the ball just didn't find him,
- 1:42:53Speaker 3: which is encouraging.
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: David Maine. I'm tuning in late, so forgive me if
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: it's already been brought up. Watching the game on TV,
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: I noticed a couple of times, during a time out
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: or after an offensive drive, Jacobe would be talking to
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: Mayo and a VP on the sidelines. I never saw
- 1:43:08Speaker 2: Drake around. Milton was there, but no Drake. Would you
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: think may would be in there trying to hear everything?
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: At first I thought I was crazy, But this was
- 1:43:16Speaker 2: brought up on another Patriots podcast.
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: What are your thoughts. I know, I didn't see it.
- 1:43:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't really see it, but I mean, I mean, yeah,
- 1:43:25Speaker 5: it might be a little bit surprising to me if
- 1:43:27Speaker 5: if he wasn't in those conversations.
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: But at the same time, I think they'll he's part
- 1:43:31Speaker 4: of all the definitely had the piece in. They showed
- 1:43:33Speaker 4: here and he's here and what's going on. So that's
- 1:43:37Speaker 4: the important thing is because he's even said it, hearing
- 1:43:40Speaker 4: the play call, getting it out, getting it out in
- 1:43:43Speaker 4: a way that everyone can understand it, and not you know,
- 1:43:46Speaker 4: machine gunning it like he like he said he had
- 1:43:47Speaker 4: been doing so.
- 1:43:49Speaker 6: But my point is he may have heard it.
- 1:43:51Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, maybe he would physically being there, he may
- 1:43:54Speaker 5: have been listening to the whole things.
- 1:43:55Speaker 3: I would just say, I wouldn't look too much into
- 1:43:58Speaker 3: all that kind of stuff, like who.
- 1:44:00Speaker 5: It's not like it's Brady Garoppolo.
- 1:44:01Speaker 3: Yeah, like is he on the huddles?
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: Is he not?
- 1:44:04Speaker 3: Like just it doesn't.
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: Matter David and Madrid. Any news on. So does it
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: seem like he'll be available against the Seahawks. We don't know.
- 1:44:13Speaker 3: See tomorrow, you see tomorrow. I thought Michael Jordan survived
- 1:44:18Speaker 3: the game, and I'm might not trying to be mean
- 1:44:20Speaker 3: with that, like.
- 1:44:21Speaker 5: I for lett right, No, no, Levertte. I was a
- 1:44:25Speaker 5: little surprised at that. I thought there'd be more of
- 1:44:26Speaker 5: a rotation.
- 1:44:27Speaker 3: Yeah, no, no, you know, look backup guard up from
- 1:44:30Speaker 3: the practice squad and it wasn't a complete disaster.
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: I'll take it.
- 1:44:35Speaker 3: You know, he's not a very strong guy, like he
- 1:44:39Speaker 3: doesn't have a ton of anchor to him, but he
- 1:44:41Speaker 3: didn't look completely out of place. So you know, Leyden Robinson,
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: I know we had an emailer about him earlier he left.
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: He left let a lot of pressure through on his
- 1:44:52Speaker 3: side of the line, but I finished well in the
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: run game.
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: I also wanted to ask if you guys believe Jahem
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: Bell or Javon Baker will play in week two. I'm
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: really excited for Bell and feel like he'll be a
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: huge impact for us in yards after catch and having
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: a better passing game with Baker. Was he not playing
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: because of discipline? A lot of people asked that question.
- 1:45:11Speaker 5: I think that might have had something to do with it,
- 1:45:13Speaker 5: But I mean, Boo Justin didn't even play, so I
- 1:45:16Speaker 5: mean I would. I think he'll be a healthy scratch
- 1:45:19Speaker 5: until they have too many injured guys.
- 1:45:21Speaker 3: Yep, Yeah, I don't think that it was much of discipline.
- 1:45:26Speaker 5: No, I think it could have been you know what
- 1:45:27Speaker 5: I'm saying, like it might have put it over the top. Yeah,
- 1:45:30Speaker 5: but I think he was going to be an active anyway.
- 1:45:31Speaker 5: But they may have said, oh, and you're not playing
- 1:45:33Speaker 5: on Sunday.
- 1:45:34Speaker 4: Yeah, do you know what I mean? Yeah?
- 1:45:35Speaker 3: I just I mean just watching the guy play in
- 1:45:38Speaker 3: the towards the end of the camp in the preseason, he
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: just wasn't effective.
- 1:45:41Speaker 5: I mean, and Mike just said it like you had
- 1:45:43Speaker 5: another receiver active who.
- 1:45:45Speaker 4: Didn't play and the cut Rager. I mean, nobody would
- 1:45:47Speaker 4: argue that Booty and Riger weren't better than Baker this summer.
- 1:45:50Speaker 2: Yeah, Dan writes in he says, Paul Dan, I wholeheartedly
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: disagree that winning low scoring games is not good enough.
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: They are not going to win seventeen games like this.
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: Who says they need to? They lost five one score
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: games last year where the opponents scored twenty one points
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: or less. Up that number to twenty five and its
- 1:46:10Speaker 2: seven games. They won their first game of the season
- 1:46:13Speaker 2: in the exact fashion you said will not work, and
- 1:46:16Speaker 2: you still say it won't work. If they win the
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: turnover battle in the low scoring games and make the
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: field goals. This goes from a four win team to
- 1:46:24Speaker 2: a nine win team overnight. No chance if the offense
- 1:46:28Speaker 2: could put up two to three scores. Most weeks and
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: twenty six points on two special weeks. That's an eleven
- 1:46:34Speaker 2: win team, a potential playoff berth if they scored eleven
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: a successful season in my opinion, love the shows, no
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: hard feelings, just disagree with you.
- 1:46:43Speaker 4: Take.
- 1:46:44Speaker 5: I didn't say anything about the game Sunday, so you're
- 1:46:46Speaker 5: putting words in my mouth. I didn't say it wasn't
- 1:46:48Speaker 5: good enough Sunday. I said you can't win every week
- 1:46:51Speaker 5: doing that. You're not winning nine, ten, eleven games doing that.
- 1:46:54Speaker 5: You're not no one does. You're not holding every team
- 1:46:58Speaker 5: to under you know, fifteen points, You're not.
- 1:47:03Speaker 4: You're not never turning them all over. You're not gonna
- 1:47:05Speaker 4: have zero turnovers every single week.
- 1:47:06Speaker 5: I mean, I can get negative if we want to.
- 1:47:09Speaker 5: The other team will have players next time they play.
- 1:47:12Speaker 5: Like two thirds of the offense didn't play. You shut
- 1:47:16Speaker 5: them down with the quarterback ineffective without his two best weapons.
- 1:47:21Speaker 5: If that happens every week, then maybe you can shut
- 1:47:23Speaker 5: them all down. But I don't think you can win
- 1:47:25Speaker 5: scoring sixteen points. I don't think you can win eleven
- 1:47:29Speaker 5: games doing that. I think you'd be hard pressed to
- 1:47:31Speaker 5: win six or seven doing that.
- 1:47:33Speaker 3: I feel like the twenty twenty two Patriots maxed out
- 1:47:36Speaker 3: how many wins you can play you can get?
- 1:47:38Speaker 6: And what was the comments denominator that year.
- 1:47:40Speaker 3: I don't know where we're going with.
- 1:47:42Speaker 5: What did the other teams score when they played those games?
- 1:47:44Speaker 4: And why? Because the quarterbacks?
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm playing. Yeah, let's go back to the TPX hotline.
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: It's gonna take a while to get used to that,
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: but so far, I haven't screwed up. Brandon is an Oregon.
- 1:47:58Speaker 2: What's up, Brandon Bronz.
- 1:48:02Speaker 18: That's how we're doing.
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:48:03Speaker 18: It's been a while. I think it was probably like
- 1:48:06Speaker 18: week nine, week ten, somewhere mid season of twenty twenty two.
- 1:48:09Speaker 18: I think the last time I called in.
- 1:48:11Speaker 2: I remember that call. You were, Oh, that's Paul's role.
- 1:48:15Speaker 2: You don't remember when Brandon called in twenty twenty two, Paul,
- 1:48:18Speaker 2: and I don't remember calling.
- 1:48:20Speaker 18: Okay, Well, anyway, this last Sunday is pretty weird. It's
- 1:48:23Speaker 18: a little emotional. It's the first Sunday my whole life.
- 1:48:27Speaker 18: I was born in ninety five, so the first one
- 1:48:29Speaker 18: was out Bill on the sideline. Also the first one
- 1:48:33Speaker 18: I got to watch with my son. You and my
- 1:48:35Speaker 18: wife had a first kid in the off season, so
- 1:48:37Speaker 18: oh emotional for a ton of reasons, but uh it was.
- 1:48:42Speaker 8: It was weird.
- 1:48:43Speaker 18: But I guess I'm all in as I could be
- 1:48:45Speaker 18: on this new era of Pat's football and guess a
- 1:48:49Speaker 18: little more excited than I was after after this last Sunday.
- 1:48:53Speaker 18: So shout out to Mayo and the new staff. Anyways,
- 1:48:57Speaker 18: the main reason I want to call though, is Stephen.
- 1:49:00Speaker 18: Then he's probably gonna be the future guy. But if
- 1:49:01Speaker 18: there's one other guy you guys had to pick to
- 1:49:04Speaker 18: merge in this offense, whether it be Thornton or you know,
- 1:49:07Speaker 18: Tomrio having a good season again like you did last year,
- 1:49:10Speaker 18: Just who do you guys think will be the kind
- 1:49:12Speaker 18: of the second guy on offense besides that Stevenson that
- 1:49:15Speaker 18: gets some production.
- 1:49:16Speaker 2: For us, thanks Brandon.
- 1:49:18Speaker 4: Henry Hunter Henry would be my pick.
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: Hunter Henry, not Pop. No.
- 1:49:24Speaker 5: I think he'll be the probably the leading receiver. I
- 1:49:27Speaker 5: think he'll catch the most passes when the season's over.
- 1:49:29Speaker 2: I think Polk's gonna catch more passes in Pop. I
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: think Pop might have more yards or yards.
- 1:49:35Speaker 6: Per pretty much guarantee that.
- 1:49:37Speaker 2: Yeah, But I think Polk will be the leading wide
- 1:49:41Speaker 2: receiver in terms of catches.
- 1:49:43Speaker 3: I saw some frustration from Polk just some of his
- 1:49:47Speaker 3: reactions after the plays because he was over yeah, and
- 1:49:51Speaker 3: he's just like, you know, last third down it was
- 1:49:54Speaker 3: a high throw to Pop Douglas. He's backside dig just
- 1:49:58Speaker 3: wide open.
- 1:49:59Speaker 4: He just you know, it's it's in the back of
- 1:50:01Speaker 4: his mind, like.
- 1:50:03Speaker 2: Right, and and and guess what that's also in the
- 1:50:06Speaker 2: back of the coach's mind when they go over the film, like, wow,
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: there's a guy getting open. Jacoby's not turning the ball over,
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: but he's not willing to.
- 1:50:15Speaker 5: Just really like Drake May is going to play any
- 1:50:17Speaker 5: any minute now, I say, yeah, that being Rappaport thing
- 1:50:21Speaker 5: on Sunday morning. I don't care what we leave completely
- 1:50:24Speaker 5: eliminated my whole by week six, not going to be
- 1:50:27Speaker 5: playing for several weeks.
- 1:50:28Speaker 4: So what that's three five? Did you listen to the
- 1:50:34Speaker 4: pre game? No, we got a whole thing on it.
- 1:50:37Speaker 2: Several less three.
- 1:50:38Speaker 5: It's like a few two, several or three or more.
- 1:50:42Speaker 4: That's what I said.
- 1:50:43Speaker 2: But I'll make a prediction. I was wrong on my
- 1:50:47Speaker 2: that he'll start week one, but if he's not in
- 1:50:50Speaker 2: by week six, I'll be shocked.
- 1:50:51Speaker 5: I think there's a better chance doesn't play at all
- 1:50:53Speaker 5: than being in by week six unless Presette gets hurt.
- 1:50:56Speaker 3: Okay, I just would say with Polk, you hope that
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: also go back in the film and realize maybe we
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: should start the progression on Jalen. Polk could not end
- 1:51:05Speaker 3: the progression on Jalen, you know, or hey, Jacobi, like
- 1:51:09Speaker 3: it looks like he's he's winning on some of these routes.
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: It's maybe look his direction a little bit more. How
- 1:51:13Speaker 3: much of it had to do with the pressure, like
- 1:51:16Speaker 3: in terms of him not being able to get through
- 1:51:18Speaker 3: the progression.
- 1:51:18Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, maybe a little bit.
- 1:51:20Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe a little bit. I just don't think that
- 1:51:23Speaker 3: there were a lot of instances where Jalen Polk was
- 1:51:26Speaker 3: the initial in the initial read.
- 1:51:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean you're probably right about that.
- 1:51:29Speaker 5: I just felt like the wide receivers really couldn't get
- 1:51:32Speaker 5: involved in this game because I don't think Psett ever
- 1:51:34Speaker 5: was able to get comfortable, like no, on very many
- 1:51:38Speaker 5: passes at all.
- 1:51:38Speaker 3: Yeah, there was definitely one throw to uh one played
- 1:51:42Speaker 3: to Taekwon got behind the defense once, yeah, and airmailed it.
- 1:51:46Speaker 4: No, No, the ball.
- 1:51:48Speaker 6: He wasn't open on the one ball they threw down
- 1:51:51Speaker 6: the field.
- 1:51:51Speaker 2: I thought he had a step.
- 1:51:52Speaker 6: They had double coverage on him on that play.
- 1:51:54Speaker 3: Yeah, and the guy that had single coverage that one
- 1:51:56Speaker 3: on the other side, Jalen jen Polk.
- 1:51:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:51:59Speaker 3: So but Taekwon did run get behind the defense on
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: one play and the corner kind of trip trying to
- 1:52:04Speaker 3: catch up to him too, so he was like wide
- 1:52:06Speaker 3: open and on that play the pressure came and took
- 1:52:10Speaker 3: off the playoff the.
- 1:52:12Speaker 5: The two the two catches that wouldn't had in this
- 1:52:15Speaker 5: game were Patriots place. They were normal NFL plays. They
- 1:52:20Speaker 5: aren't anything fluky.
- 1:52:21Speaker 3: The one off play action the seventeen yard a is
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: that was that's the a VP offense, like that's what
- 1:52:27Speaker 3: it should look like. Run run play action like that.
- 1:52:29Speaker 4: That was good.
- 1:52:30Speaker 2: Patty's an aguam. What's up Patty guys? He hey, Patty,
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: definitely a good win.
- 1:52:39Speaker 8: I want to give Remindre his props, and I know
- 1:52:42Speaker 8: we're not supposed to be looking forward today, but I
- 1:52:45Speaker 8: wanted to bring up a couple of points and end
- 1:52:47Speaker 8: with a question. So, just based on last year statistics,
- 1:52:51Speaker 8: we're again we're going to be playing one of the
- 1:52:53Speaker 8: worst rushing defenses in the league this year. So I'm
- 1:52:57Speaker 8: looking looking forward and seeing some sort of a similar
- 1:53:01Speaker 8: game plan against the Seahawks.
- 1:53:02Speaker 7: But and the grand scheme of things when we do
- 1:53:06Speaker 7: have to play the Jets and the Niners and some
- 1:53:08Speaker 7: of these better running defenses and just overall defensive do
- 1:53:11Speaker 7: you think ABP gets in Jacoby Brissett's here and says, hey, look,
- 1:53:15Speaker 7: you know the game plan. You're gonna have to we're
- 1:53:17Speaker 7: gonna scheme it up, and we're gonna have to take
- 1:53:19Speaker 7: some shots down the field, and you're gonna have to
- 1:53:21Speaker 7: push the ball down the field. You know, if if
- 1:53:24Speaker 7: it looks if it starts to look ugly, if then
- 1:53:26Speaker 7: when they do that, you think that sort of accelerates
- 1:53:30Speaker 7: Drake by getting in there.
- 1:53:31Speaker 8: Yeah, work Drake may in today's that's the question, and I'll.
- 1:53:35Speaker 2: Take it off there, guys, all right, thanks.
- 1:53:36Speaker 3: I think it's a fair point that, you know, I've
- 1:53:39Speaker 3: been kind of critical of Brissette not pushing the ball
- 1:53:41Speaker 3: down the field more. When you're playing with the lead
- 1:53:44Speaker 3: on the road and what you're doing is working and
- 1:53:47Speaker 3: you're you're controlling the game, you know, maybe there's a
- 1:53:50Speaker 3: little risk reward there that goes through his head. And
- 1:53:53Speaker 3: in the game Mike Patty said, where he has to
- 1:53:55Speaker 3: push it a little bit more like maybe we do
- 1:53:57Speaker 3: see him doing I don't know if he has anything.
- 1:53:58Speaker 7: To do it.
- 1:53:59Speaker 5: I do think if it's if they do try to
- 1:54:01Speaker 5: do that and it fails, I think Freddy scenario could
- 1:54:03Speaker 5: could unfold. Like if they show that they only have
- 1:54:06Speaker 5: one way of playing with Brissette and they have to
- 1:54:09Speaker 5: try to find another way to play.
- 1:54:10Speaker 2: Offense, assuming he's ready, assuming yeah, it's.
- 1:54:13Speaker 5: Right, I think then the US scenario could unfold Week
- 1:54:15Speaker 5: six or whatever. But I just I just feel like
- 1:54:19Speaker 5: this is what they want to do. And uh, you
- 1:54:23Speaker 5: guys know you know how much I don't like running
- 1:54:25Speaker 5: the ball. When he the second half, I basically said
- 1:54:29Speaker 5: I wouldn't throw again unless they fall behind. As long
- 1:54:31Speaker 5: as they have the lead, I would just run it
- 1:54:33Speaker 5: every play, And I know they didn't do that. They
- 1:54:35Speaker 5: threw a couple of passes, but my feeling was as
- 1:54:39Speaker 5: long as it's quote unquote working in terms of we're
- 1:54:42Speaker 5: not turning it over, we're making the Bengals have to
- 1:54:45Speaker 5: make plays to come back, I didn't see any need
- 1:54:49Speaker 5: to to, you know, unnecessarily put the ball at risk.
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: We haven't mentioned Joey Sly.
- 1:54:56Speaker 4: James, which actually I'm gonna cut a litt early because
- 1:54:58Speaker 4: I'm gonna go listen to our new special Teams coordinator.
