- 1:18All right, guys, without any further ado, let's
- 1:20get into the show.
- 1:22All right.
- 1:22This is Inspirations for Your Life.
- 1:25How people lock in a new direction, series
- 1:27five, show 17, and it is episode number
- 1:32seven, guys.
- 1:33Yes.
- 1:34This ends the master topic of the week.
- 1:36We start a brand new one tomorrow.
- 1:38This episode of Inspirations for Your Life with
- 1:40myself, John C.
- 1:42Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 1:46podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, passionate
- 1:50lifelong learner, and now a published author exploring
- 1:54how people stop drifting and lock in a
- 1:57real lasting direction in life.
- 1:59This is not about motivation, guys.
- 2:02This is about transformation that actually sticks.
- 2:06And I know those are things that a
- 2:08lot of people don't really equate with the
- 2:10two, but they do connect with each other.
- 2:12Because you see, real world change is not
- 2:14created in a single moment or a second.
- 2:17It's built through structure, repetition, and identity over
- 2:20time.
- 2:21And most people, well, they miss the boat
- 2:24on that.
- 2:25They think change is only emotional, but change
- 2:27is more than emotion.
- 2:29It's a structure.
- 2:30Let's break it down together, okay?
- 2:32Let's start with the core shift.
- 2:34Most people drift through life because, well, they
- 2:37rely on impulses instead of a design or
- 2:40a plan.
- 2:41They react instead of decide.
- 2:43And we've talked about the importance this week
- 2:45about being proactive rather than reactive.
- 2:48They repeat instead of evolving, oh, that's what
- 2:52they do.
- 2:52But when someone begins to understand how direction
- 2:55is actually built and orchestrated, everything magically changes.
- 3:00Because you see, direction is not found, guys.
- 3:03Direction is created.
- 3:05And I think when you understand that, you'll
- 3:09appreciate this.
- 3:12That once it's created, it must be reinforced.
- 3:15And I think that's something, again, that a
- 3:17lot of people in life, they tend to
- 3:20miss that whole concept.
- 3:23And again, that's something that a lot of
- 3:26people wish they knew the truth to.
- 3:29But then again, they actually don't.
- 3:33So that's a big, big, that's a really
- 3:37big problem, guys.
- 3:38A really, really big problem that I hope
- 3:41a lot of people will actually choose to
- 3:44understand.
- 3:45But it is important to know why this
- 3:49works this way.
- 3:50Because change does not happen, as I said,
- 3:53overnight, guys.
- 3:54It does not happen overnight.
- 3:55So how change actually locks in.
- 3:58Let's talk about that.
- 3:59How change locks in.
- 4:01So decisions create direction.
- 4:05Every ship begins with a conscious choice.
- 4:08That's right.
- 4:09A conscious choice.
- 4:12A conscious choice to either be doing something
- 4:15or to not be doing something.
- 4:18That is really the awareness and understanding that
- 4:20I want you guys to realize today.
- 4:23Is that that understanding, that little bit of
- 4:26a moment where you're like, wait a minute.
- 4:28Maybe I should be doing this differently.
- 4:29Maybe I should be saying something differently.
- 4:31Maybe I should be feeling different.
- 4:33Maybe I should be thinking different.
- 4:35That's what actually moves the needle.
- 4:37And we talked about the needle before.
- 4:38So on old meters, the needle basically would
- 4:41move with any type of volts or electricity.
- 4:44So when we say moves the needle, we
- 4:45mean what's going to cause it to move
- 4:48forward.
- 4:48And so moving the needle is just an
- 4:51old terminology to show that something is changing,
- 4:55even though it might be very slight.
- 4:57So ladies and gentlemen, commitments change.
- 5:02You see, without commitment, change collapses.
- 5:08Change collapses.
- 5:10I think that's another one that a lot
- 5:11of people wish they knew, but they don't
- 5:14always know.
- 5:15And they're like, I wish I knew that.
- 5:17And, you know, don't beat yourself in the
- 5:19head because you don't know that.
- 5:21I think the fact that you're here now
- 5:23and you want to make this change is
- 5:24really one of the biggest and greatest things
- 5:27that you can actually do in your life.
- 5:29So give yourself a pat on the back
- 5:31for coming today and watching the show.
- 5:36So consistency, guys, locks progress.
- 5:42Repetition will build the stability.
- 5:47Repetition will build the stability.
- 5:49And again, I know these are just crazy
- 5:52things, but they're truth.
- 5:53Consistency locks you in, it hones you in,
- 5:55and the repetition makes you stable, makes you
- 5:58reliable.
- 6:00I think that's an important thing to note.
- 6:04You know, what does that mean for people?
- 6:06I think for a lot of people, it
- 6:08means, well, it means different things.
- 6:11So habits, ladies and gentlemen, they reinforce identity.
- 6:16What you repeat defines who you become.
- 6:20Let me say that again, what you repeat
- 6:23defines who you become.
- 6:31What you repeat defines who you become.
- 6:35So identity drives behavior.
- 6:38We probably know that.
- 6:39But self-perception shapes action.
- 6:42Our self-perception, which you might say, well,
- 6:45gee, John, that doesn't mean much.
- 6:47But yeah, your perceptions actually cause you to
- 6:53take or not take specific actions in life.
- 6:57I think that's a very important thing, okay?
- 7:01And ladies and gentlemen, behavior creates results.
- 7:07Behavior creates the results, but actions determine the
- 7:11outcomes.
- 7:12So behavior creates the results, but action determines
- 7:15the outcomes.
- 7:20That's another very interesting one that I think
- 7:22a lot of us don't think about is,
- 7:24you know, everybody wants to rush and do
- 7:25something because, you know, the Joneses are doing
- 7:27it.
- 7:28But is this in alignment with who I
- 7:31am right now?
- 7:32Or am I just trying to do something
- 7:34for another crazy reason?
- 7:36I mean, that's really what it comes down
- 7:38to, okay?
- 7:40I know some of you are saying to
- 7:44me, John, you know, this doesn't make a
- 7:46lot of sense.
- 7:47But really, it does make sense.
- 7:50It makes a lot of sense.
- 7:52So much sense that you could understand one
- 7:55thing.
- 7:58And what you can understand is that this
- 8:02can make a very big change in your
- 8:05life, okay?
- 8:08It can make a very, very big change
- 8:11in your life.
- 8:12And if this makes a very, very big
- 8:14change in your life, then, and only then,
- 8:17guys, can you actually move this forward?
- 8:24And you might say to me, John, I
- 8:26don't really know how to move anything forward
- 8:29because nothing seems to, like, click with me.
- 8:35All right, I get that.
- 8:36But I think the best way to understand
- 8:46this is to think about where you are
- 8:50right now in your life, not where you
- 8:53were yesterday, not where you're going to be
- 8:55tomorrow or next week, but think about where
- 8:57you are in your life right now at
- 9:00this very moment.
- 9:02Because ladies and gentlemen, results build the proof,
- 9:06okay?
- 9:06Results build the proof, but proof strengthens confidence.
- 9:13Result builds the proof, but proof strengthens the
- 9:18confidence.
- 9:19And that's another one of those ones where
- 9:21people are like, oh, gee, I wish I
- 9:22knew what was going on, right?
- 9:24I wish I knew about that.
- 9:27And I think for whatever reason, sometimes things
- 9:31don't click for us because maybe we're expecting
- 9:35things at the wrong time or on our
- 9:38timeline, but not on other people's timelines.
- 9:47So that's a thing to definitely, you know,
- 9:55understand.
- 9:56Let's move forward with this.
- 10:00Our belief, ladies and gentlemen, sustains momentum.
- 10:05Our belief sustains momentum.
- 10:10And so when we say our belief sustains
- 10:14momentum, we have to understand that our mindset
- 10:16will always fuel the persistence.
- 10:19So our belief gets us going, right?
- 10:22It gets the engine started.
- 10:24But it's actually our mindset that fuels.
- 10:28It's kind of like, you know, when we
- 10:29turn on the car, the spark plug, the
- 10:34alternator, that gets the car going, that gets
- 10:38the momentum of the engine started.
- 10:40But the mindset, the juice that keeps the
- 10:43car going is our fuel, right?
- 10:47And I think if we know what our
- 10:49fuel is, then we can actually make positive
- 10:54change in our lives.
- 10:56I'm not saying that that's going to be
- 10:58easy.
- 10:58And sometimes getting the fuel might be harder
- 11:00than figuring out what fuel you need.
- 11:02But once you know what fuel you need,
- 11:04then you need to go get it.
- 11:06You need to go get it.
- 11:09That's an important thing, guys.
- 11:13You have to go get it.
- 11:17And so momentum compounds, guys, the growth.
- 11:26Small wins multiply over time.
- 11:31Small wins, guys, they multiply over time.
- 11:35So momentum compounds the growth.
- 11:40But the small wins keep us excited to
- 11:44keep going.
- 11:44Because when we see the results are multiplied,
- 11:47when we see that it's amped up, that,
- 11:49hey, wow, this is like amazing, we want
- 11:52to just become all involved.
- 11:57And so a part of it is emotional,
- 11:59guys.
- 12:00Another part is not emotional.
- 12:02I think that's a very important thing for
- 12:06us to understand is that when we're making
- 12:10decisions in life, right, we can't make them
- 12:13on emotion.
- 12:14We have to make them on the truth.
- 12:18We have to make them on facts.
- 12:21We have to make them on facts.
- 12:24That's important.
- 12:27Discipline, guys, stabilizes the outcomes.
- 12:33This one stabilizes the outcomes.
- 12:35And it also prevents the collapse of systems.
- 12:43It prevents the collapse of systems.
- 12:47And again, this is something that you're hearing,
- 12:49but words don't mean anything directly.
- 12:54It stabilizes outcomes, right?
- 12:56We stay disciplined.
- 12:57And the structure that we have prevents the
- 13:00collapse.
- 13:00Let's see if I can give that to
- 13:01you a little better way.
- 13:02So you're playing football, you're playing baseball.
- 13:05The discipline in practicing every day will stabilize
- 13:09our outcome so we can become a better
- 13:12player.
- 13:12But it is the structure of those days,
- 13:19those times that make it work.
- 13:22There was somebody that had this very interesting
- 13:24shirt on a few days ago at school.
- 13:26And it said something I've never seen before,
- 13:28but it's a very interesting phrase.
- 13:29And it says, don't let the fear of
- 13:34striking out keep you from playing the game.
- 13:40Think about that again for a moment.
- 13:42Don't let the fear of striking out prevent
- 13:44you from playing the game.
- 13:45So let's say that another way.
- 13:47Don't let the fear of being unsuccessful prevent
- 13:56you from trying to be successful.
- 13:57Don't let the fear of taking a risk
- 14:00prevent you from taking some risks.
- 14:04Does that make sense?
- 14:07And so these are things we don't just
- 14:09see as words.
- 14:11But these are important parts of our life
- 14:14that we can reflect on.
- 14:17Parts of our life we can reflect on.
- 14:21So we know about progress and we know
- 14:24about discipline.
- 14:24And when we know these things are viable,
- 14:26we know that we can have a very
- 14:28interesting life.
- 14:32We know that.
- 14:34We know that.
- 14:38So keep execution alive and structure prevents the
- 14:43relapse.
- 14:52So our structure prevents the relapse.
- 14:55And then we can order in that way
- 14:58to protect the noise.
- 15:00Because I think sometimes we don't do what
- 15:02we want to do.
- 15:03You know why?
- 15:06Because we're too stuck on the noise around
- 15:09us.
- 15:09So structure will prevent any relapse.
- 15:11And order will protect the direction.
- 15:14So we have some structure, right, to practice,
- 15:18to do something.
- 15:20And we keep following that structure.
- 15:22We are going to get better, whether we
- 15:24know it or not.
- 15:28Focus, ladies and gentlemen, removes distraction.
- 15:31That shouldn't be new.
- 15:33But focus removes distraction.
- 15:34And clarity, what does clarity do?
- 15:38Clarity does something pretty unique.
- 15:40Clarity eliminates the noise.
- 15:42And we just talked about how important it
- 15:43is to get rid of the noise.
- 15:47So clarity is important.
- 15:51Focus removes the distraction that we might currently
- 15:53have.
- 15:54Maybe we're studying.
- 15:55And maybe it's our phone.
- 15:56So we need to silence it or turn
- 15:57it off, right?
- 16:01Maybe it's our, let's say, compulsion that we
- 16:06want to go check email.
- 16:07That's not related to what we're doing.
- 16:10And those are all distractions.
- 16:14You know, some people might decide they have
- 16:15their pen.
- 16:16So they're going to keep clicking it.
- 16:18Because they just like to play.
- 16:20But that's a distraction, right?
- 16:24That's a distraction.
- 16:27Focus will always remove the distraction.
- 16:29So if we stay focused, clarity will eliminate
- 16:33the noise that we're trying to get rid
- 16:38of.
- 16:39Repetition, ladies and gentlemen, will build mastery.
- 16:44Consistency will develop the skill.
- 16:46Let me say that again.
- 16:50Repetition will always build mastery.
- 16:54Consistency will truly hone you in to develop
- 16:57the skill.
- 17:00Oh, I don't want to do that again.
- 17:00I've done it so many times.
- 17:03Repetition is a teacher.
- 17:06Repetition gets us to see things differently than
- 17:09the way we first saw them.
- 17:15So repetition builds mastery.
- 17:17And consistency will develop the skill.
- 17:21It will develop the skill and the depth
- 17:26behind it.
- 17:27Now, mastery, guys, will build confidence.
- 17:31Sure it will.
- 17:32But it is the competence that reinforces the
- 17:36execution.
- 17:39Wow.
- 17:39So mastery will always build confidence, right?
- 17:44But competence reinforces the execution.
- 17:48And guess what?
- 17:48We're in this endless positive loop where we
- 17:51keep doing more, more, more, more, more.
- 17:53And we keep getting better.
- 17:57The more I believe in myself, I can
- 18:02do.
- 18:02The more I can do, the more I
- 18:04believe in myself.
- 18:04Let's take that from a wealth foundation, okay?
- 18:08The more I have gratitude in myself, the
- 18:11more I expect money to come.
- 18:13The more I expect money to come, the
- 18:15more gratitude I have in myself.
- 18:16And that could be a whole loop, guys.
- 18:19It just goes back and forth and back
- 18:20and forth.
- 18:21And I think that's a very, very important
- 18:24thing.
- 18:25Very important thing.
- 18:31I think when we start to notice these,
- 18:35okay, life changes for us.
- 18:44Confidence, ladies and gentlemen, strengthens the action as
- 18:47well.
- 18:48Our confidence will strengthen the action, which is
- 18:50strengthening the task, which is strengthening the method,
- 18:53the procedure.
- 18:55But it's the belief that improves following through.
- 19:05The belief that improves following through.
- 19:10So confidence will always strengthen the action that
- 19:13we'll get better at something.
- 19:15We'll be more skilled, right?
- 19:18But the belief always improves the follow through,
- 19:26right?
- 19:27The sustainability.
- 19:28That brings it to my next point.
- 19:31Action will always sustain a direction.
- 19:34Action always sustains a direction.
- 19:36Movement, on the other hand, keeps the alignment
- 19:41intact.
- 19:42So action sustains the direction.
- 19:45Movement keeps alignment intact.
- 19:47So action, I'm gonna practice every day to
- 19:49become a better golfer, okay?
- 19:53The movement of me practicing to become a
- 19:56better golfer will keep my alignment intact and
- 19:59therefore I will become a better golfer.
- 20:07Direction becomes identity.
- 20:09And behavior defines the self-concept.
- 20:13So our direction becomes who we are.
- 20:18Which, by the way, are linked to our
- 20:19core values, how we're wired, okay?
- 20:26The direction becomes identity.
- 20:27Behavior defines the self-concept.
- 20:33It defines the self-concept, which again is
- 20:36made up by our perceptions and how we
- 20:38are wired.
- 20:42Identity drives success.
- 20:46The identity drives success.
- 20:47Who you believe you are shapes the outcomes.
- 20:53So your identity will always drive success, but
- 20:56who you believe you are will shape the
- 20:58outcomes of that.
- 21:03Repetition locks transformation.
- 21:07Permanent repetition locks transformation.
- 21:11You get in that loop, you keep doing
- 21:12this over and over and over and over
- 21:13and over again, right?
- 21:16Question for you.
- 21:17Why most people fail to change is probably
- 21:20what you want to know.
- 21:22Here's the reason.
- 21:23Most people do not change is not because
- 21:26they lack the knowledge.
- 21:28Most people are incredibly smart.
- 21:30It's because they lack the structure necessary.
- 21:33The people that don't become good athletes are
- 21:37not because they don't have the athletic skill
- 21:38or the smarts to do it.
- 21:40It's because they lack the structure of the
- 21:42program, which is why they go to a
- 21:43trainer.
- 21:46They start strong, right?
- 21:49They start very strong.
- 21:51You feel they're never going to be, let's
- 21:54say, messed with.
- 21:56But then how the blue they stop.
- 21:58It's like the people on New Year's Eve,
- 22:01they say, oh, I'm going to go to
- 22:02the gym every single day.
- 22:05Great, but I'm going to wait until the
- 22:10second.
- 22:10Fine, but I'm going to go every single
- 22:12day.
- 22:12And they go every single day for one
- 22:14week, for two weeks, for three weeks, or
- 22:15maybe by the end of the month, they're
- 22:16like, you know what?
- 22:17I'm kind of busy today.
- 22:18I'm not going to go today.
- 22:20And then once they break that pattern, they
- 22:25stop going to the gym.
- 22:27Then they slowly drift.
- 22:31And it just seems like this isn't working
- 22:33for them anymore.
- 22:34That's what it seems like.
- 22:35They try again.
- 22:37And then guess what happens?
- 22:40They reset.
- 22:41And the cycle repeats.
- 22:43Oh, I'm not meant to go to the
- 22:44gym.
- 22:45I never do.
- 22:46Because you don't stay structured.
- 22:51But repetition, ladies and gentlemen, without structure does
- 22:55not create progress.
- 22:56Let me say that again.
- 22:57Repetition without a structure does not create a
- 23:00progress.
- 23:08So if you have a structure, but you
- 23:10don't have repetition, you don't get progress.
- 23:13If you don't have structure, no repetition, you
- 23:19don't get progress.
- 23:19If you have repetition and no structure, you
- 23:22don't get a progress.
- 23:22So no repetition with structure, no progress.
- 23:27No structure with repetition, also no progress.
- 23:32You know, it's a lot of work.
- 23:34It's not something you do in five minutes.
- 23:36So a lot of people don't want to
- 23:38put the extra effort in.
- 23:40What does it do?
- 23:41It creates a sense of frustration in their
- 23:43mind.
- 23:44And they start to feel a little bit
- 23:46uncomfortable.
- 23:48So they don't want to be uncomfortable.
- 23:49So they stop.
- 23:52And I said to you guys that success
- 23:54doesn't lie where it's comfortable.
- 23:56It starts where it's uncomfortable.
- 23:58Not painful, but just uncomfortable.
- 23:59The break point moment, old habits will fade.
- 24:05When new repetition is strong enough, new standards
- 24:09will rise to the top.
- 24:12And the expectations will begin to shift expectations.
- 24:16And they will increase performance.
- 24:20Baseline resets.
- 24:22And the results now become predictable.
- 24:28They become predictable.
- 24:31But all the times there has to be
- 24:32a slight falling for this to take place.
- 24:35So systems replace randomness.
- 24:39Stability replaces chaos.
- 24:41So systems replace randomness.
- 24:43Stability replaces chaos.
- 24:45Another way of saying that is we need
- 24:47structure.
- 24:47We need repetition.
- 24:48That's all we're doing, guys.
- 24:49We're saying that in a different way.
- 24:53We're saying that in a completely different way.
- 24:57That's important, guys.
- 24:59Really important.
- 25:03So uncertainty control replaces the drift.
- 25:08Intention replaces reaction.
- 25:12Clarity replaces confusion.
- 25:14And focus replaces that noise.
- 25:17Growth becomes normal.
- 25:19Progress becomes, well, default behavior.
- 25:21And direction stays intentional.
- 25:23Nothing is accidental anymore.
- 25:25You become what you build.
- 25:27You see, ladies and gentlemen, your identity is
- 25:30formed through the execution of what you do
- 25:32and don't do.
- 25:33Now, here's the kicker.
- 25:35The real truth most people will always miss.
- 25:40You do not rise to your goals.
- 25:44Nope.
- 25:45You fall to your systems.
- 25:49What does that mean?
- 25:51Your life is not shaped by what you
- 25:53want.
- 25:54It is shaped by what you repeat.
- 25:57And you see, repetition is stronger than intention.
- 26:02This can be physically.
- 26:03This can be mentally.
- 26:05What you repeat, you get.
- 26:10What you want, you don't.
- 26:14That's interesting.
- 26:16So every time, ladies and gentlemen, this is
- 26:19true.
- 26:19How people actually lock into a life, a
- 26:23new life, when people finally change permanently, it
- 26:26is not because they become more motivated.
- 26:28Nope.
- 26:29It's because they became more structured.
- 26:32They stopped negotiating with themselves.
- 26:34They stopped restarting.
- 26:37They stopped waiting for perfect timing, because there
- 26:40never will be a perfect time.
- 26:41Instead, they built rhythm.
- 26:44They built consistency.
- 26:46They built identity through repetition.
- 26:48Remember, we need repetition and we need structure.
- 26:51Can't have success without either.
- 26:53And that is when everything just will start
- 26:55to shift.
- 26:57The final transformation, guys, and point is this.
- 27:00Real change happens when action becomes consistent and
- 27:05consistency becomes your identity.
- 27:08Your identity becomes automatic, atomic, and the behavior
- 27:12becomes your direction, and you lock in.
- 27:15And this is when, ladies and gentlemen, life
- 27:16stops being random.
- 27:18It starts being intentional.
- 27:21Hope that makes sense to everyone.
- 27:23This week, we're covering things pretty amazing, and
- 27:27we're wrapping this up.
- 27:28But it's more about inspiration.
- 27:29It's about awareness.
- 27:31It's about turning into structure, and structure turning
- 27:34into identity.
- 27:35Because once your actions become consistent, your direction
- 27:39becomes permanent.
- 27:42And once your direction becomes permanent, your life
- 27:45becomes intentional.
- 27:50Live an intentional life, and you'll feel like
- 27:53you're a new person.
- 27:55Ladies and gentlemen, you can catch the full
- 27:56episodes of my shows and all my great
- 27:58content at BelieveMeAchieved.com.
- 28:00Because clarity is not enough.
- 28:02Execution is what locks everything in.
- 28:05What are you waiting for?
- 28:06Start being consistent and have structure, and your
- 28:10goals will become a reality.
- 28:12Have a great one, everyone.
