Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, everyone, Welcome to the Inside the Birds pregame show.
- 0:13Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Mosher with Adam Kaplan from Inside the Birds.
- 0:16Speaker 1: And for every pregame show, we bring in the man
- 0:19Speaker 1: who watches more NFL tape than you can actually imagine,
- 0:22Speaker 1: and he breaks down the tape of both the Eagles
- 0:25Speaker 1: and their opponents, and that is Greg Cosel and fellas.
- 0:28Speaker 1: We have a pretty interesting Week five matchup here between
- 0:31Speaker 1: an undefeated Eagles team at home four and Oher at
- 0:35Speaker 1: the Link welcoming a Broncos team that is two and two,
- 0:39Speaker 1: but they've lost both of their games to two very
- 0:42Speaker 1: good teams and by a total of four points. That's
- 0:46Speaker 1: a one point loss to the Colts and a three
- 0:48Speaker 1: point loss to the Chargers in Week three before they
- 0:52Speaker 1: stomped on the Cincinnati Bengals last week by twenty five points.
- 0:56Speaker 2: We got a very very.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Interesting matchup, and I think it's safe to frame it.
- 1:01Speaker 1: We'll get into the injuries, and we'll get into the
- 1:03Speaker 1: styles and the offense versus defense. Adam, I think it's
- 1:07Speaker 1: it's safe to frame this as a game where you
- 1:10Speaker 1: have an Eagles team that's really trying to get right
- 1:12Speaker 1: in certain areas and a Broncos team that may have
- 1:15Speaker 1: just got right last week and wants to put behind
- 1:18Speaker 1: some really close losses.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, man, kick, they could easily be four. And oh,
- 1:24Speaker 3: you remember what happened with the Colts game. Yep, on
- 1:27Speaker 3: the leverage play, so they lost that. And you know
- 1:30Speaker 3: the other game they blow it in the fourth quarter
- 1:32Speaker 3: to Justin Herbert brought them back with the Chargers. So yeah,
- 1:35Speaker 3: they could be four.
- 1:35Speaker 4: No, they made the.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Playoffs that stunned me last year. I was not saying that,
- 1:39Speaker 3: but Champagn's obviously a very good coach, and they got
- 1:43Speaker 3: things turned around, and the evance shows up, and we'll
- 1:45Speaker 3: get into man coverage and all that. They do this
- 1:48Speaker 3: to me. By the way, on Sunday, the game time
- 1:51Speaker 3: temperatures could be very warm. We're not having to worry
- 1:53Speaker 3: about weather. It's a fun matchup. I'm looking forward to
- 1:55Speaker 3: this one, Greig.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Both teams, both teams inconsistent offense, but carried so far
- 2:02Speaker 1: by what they are defensively.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Agreed, Yes, and we can talk about that for sure.
- 2:07Speaker 4: I mean, the first of all, the Broncos last year
- 2:10Speaker 4: led the NFL in sacks and right now, not counting
- 2:13Speaker 4: of course, last night's game. I don't check those stats,
- 2:15Speaker 4: but they lead the NFL in sacks after four weeks
- 2:18Speaker 4: as well, So I mean they're pretty good.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Absolutely, And for those who are really analytically driven, the
- 2:27Speaker 1: Broncos if you don't just look at sacks and hurries,
- 2:29Speaker 1: but even win rate and things like that, the Broncos
- 2:31Speaker 1: are not only very talented, but deep, with lots of
- 2:35Speaker 1: good pass rushers and of course a very good secondary.
- 2:37Speaker 1: So this will be a very interesting test for an
- 2:40Speaker 1: Eagles offense that is still trying to find itself and
- 2:43Speaker 1: has been very sporadic adam. As we get to the injuries,
- 2:46Speaker 1: there is no question that the end of the week
- 2:49Speaker 1: for the Eagles was a lot better than earlier in
- 2:52Speaker 1: the week. But also, unlike last week, the Broncos are
- 2:55Speaker 1: a very very healthy team as well.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Yeah, the Broncos historically, but one of the healthiest teams
- 3:01Speaker 3: going back a number of years. But yes, the Eagles
- 3:04Speaker 3: got good news because Van Dallascott when he got added
- 3:06Speaker 3: to the jury report on Wednesday. Again, I'm with that
- 3:08Speaker 3: knee again, but he's going to play. Jalen Carter is
- 3:11Speaker 3: something to watch in this game. Is he going to
- 3:13Speaker 3: come in and out with a shoulder issue, which which
- 3:16Speaker 3: you know, we put it out when he's drafted. He
- 3:18Speaker 3: had a shoulder issue at Georgia and this keeps recurring
- 3:21Speaker 3: with him. So yeah, it's something to watch. And this
- 3:25Speaker 3: is why, barring Young, who we didn't know a lot
- 3:26Speaker 3: about and Greg gave us a tape write down when
- 3:28Speaker 3: Eagles claimed off waivers, he's playing. I mean he remember
- 3:31Speaker 3: they traded Thomas Booker, so he's that first guy off
- 3:34Speaker 3: the bench right right.
- 3:35Speaker 1: The big injury story that we'll have to wait is
- 3:38Speaker 1: for now is Nikobe Dean. He was not He was
- 3:41Speaker 1: ruled out for this game. He is in the twenty
- 3:45Speaker 1: one day practice window. And next week will become sort
- 3:47Speaker 1: of interesting for him too, because as a Thursday night game,
- 3:50Speaker 1: you don't have any actual practices. You have walked through,
- 3:54Speaker 1: jog through practices, so we won't be able to see
- 3:57Speaker 1: Nikobe Dean won't be able to really test himself in
- 4:00Speaker 1: a real practice environment until probably the week after. That
- 4:04Speaker 1: doesn't mean he won't be action for next week, but
- 4:06Speaker 1: I almost see it as an unlikely scenario.
- 4:08Speaker 2: We just have to see what the coaches want to
- 4:10Speaker 2: do in that case.
- 4:10Speaker 4: That's going to be a fascinating situation to watch. As
- 4:14Speaker 4: we discussed last week when the Patreon group about what
- 4:18Speaker 4: happens when the Kobe Dean when he's truly ready to
- 4:21Speaker 4: play right right.
- 4:24Speaker 1: The Broncos injury report, I believe, came out and do
- 4:27Speaker 1: you have any there's no one that is out correct
- 4:30Speaker 1: of real.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Yeah, they're pretty clean. They're pretty clean. And uh, that's
- 4:35Speaker 3: part in part of being a good football team. It's
- 4:37Speaker 3: like having guys at the end of the year. Yeah,
- 4:39Speaker 3: if you look at the twenty two season, remember how
- 4:41Speaker 3: healthy the Eagles were. I think all twenty two starters
- 4:44Speaker 3: were in a lineup. I remember that Chiefs in twenty two.
- 4:47Speaker 3: That's part of it. And you know, but I'll say
- 4:50Speaker 3: one thing, because fans get sometimes upset, why do you
- 4:53Speaker 3: give the other team respect? Well, let's we're not taking
- 4:57Speaker 3: a side here. This Broncos roster Greg's good.
- 5:01Speaker 4: I guess it is pretty good. Yeah, we'll talk about
- 5:04Speaker 4: their defense in particular, but they're pretty good across the board.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Well, let's not waste any time. Let's get into it.
- 5:10Speaker 1: And I want to start off with this Eagles offense
- 5:13Speaker 1: against a Broncos defense. Greg that ranks eighth overall as
- 5:17Speaker 1: far as total yards. I believe even they're scoring defense,
- 5:21Speaker 1: they haven't even higher ranked fifth overall.
- 5:24Speaker 2: They rushed the passer.
- 5:26Speaker 1: As you mentioned, extraordinarily. Well, they've laid the NFL in
- 5:29Speaker 1: sacks last year. And what I find interesting, by the way,
- 5:32Speaker 1: right this as through four weeks, they are second in
- 5:36Speaker 1: the NFL in sacks per past attempt. What I find
- 5:38Speaker 1: interesting about them, Greg, is that if you pull common
- 5:42Speaker 1: NFL fans and show them pictures of the Broncos' best
- 5:46Speaker 1: pass rushers, I bet.
- 5:48Speaker 2: You a lot of them couldn't identify them. For whatever reason.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Nick Bonito and Jonathan Cooper Joe just don't get the
- 5:53Speaker 1: same headlines and recognition as Miles Garrett or Micah Parsons.
- 5:59Speaker 4: No, and again, whatever this means, people can take this
- 6:02Speaker 4: stat for what it's worth. But right now, Nick Benito
- 6:05Speaker 4: was second in the NFL and passed thrush win rate.
- 6:09Speaker 4: But you know it's funny. I did Benito coming out
- 6:13Speaker 4: of Oklahoma, and I don't know what he weighs now.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Sometimes guys gained a few pounds here and there, but
- 6:18Speaker 4: he probably weighed about two forty five. And I really
- 6:21Speaker 4: liked his tape a lot because you can you see
- 6:23Speaker 4: what he is in the NFL. To me, that's what
- 6:25Speaker 4: he looked like in college, you know, And the only
- 6:27Speaker 4: concern that I had was the speed to power, which
- 6:30Speaker 4: he has shown. But this is a really intriguing defense
- 6:34Speaker 4: because vance Joseph tends to be very opponent specific. You know,
- 6:39Speaker 4: for instance, when they played the Colts earlier in the season,
- 6:43Speaker 4: he just blitzed and played man a ridiculous amount of both.
- 6:47Speaker 4: He doesn't do that every game. So you don't know
- 6:51Speaker 4: how he's going to see playing the Eagles, particularly this
- 6:56Speaker 4: version of the Eagles, when they're not really at this
- 7:00Speaker 4: moment in time. They're not running them all particularly well,
- 7:02Speaker 4: and they're not throwing it particularly well. So I don't
- 7:05Speaker 4: know how he sees playing this version of the Eagles.
- 7:07Speaker 4: But what are the things they do really well? Guys,
- 7:10Speaker 4: Because don't forget, it's not just Nick Benito and Jonathan Cooper.
- 7:14Speaker 4: John Franklin Myers is a very good player. Zach Allen
- 7:17Speaker 4: is a really good player. They like to put five
- 7:20Speaker 4: six guys on the front because what they do with
- 7:22Speaker 4: their pass rush very often is what we call they
- 7:25Speaker 4: gap you out, meaning they create one all ones and
- 7:29Speaker 4: it's you know, people tend to look at just edge rushers.
- 7:33Speaker 4: People might think, oh, Cooper won't have a big game.
- 7:35Speaker 4: He lines up on the left side of the defense.
- 7:37Speaker 4: He's lined up on the left side of the defense
- 7:38Speaker 4: on every snap but one, two four games. Benito's lined
- 7:42Speaker 4: up on the right side of their defense on every
- 7:44Speaker 4: snap but seven to four games, so they don't really
- 7:46Speaker 4: switch sides. So people might say, Okay, Cooper against Lane Johnson.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Johnson will handle him. You know, Benito, he's going to
- 7:53Speaker 4: go against my alatta. But inside is where they do
- 7:57Speaker 4: a lot of things, and they've got guys who can
- 8:00Speaker 4: win one on one, and they've got some really good
- 8:02Speaker 4: stunt concepts inside that can be problematic. So it's not
- 8:06Speaker 4: just the edge guys by any stretch of the imagination. Here.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Speaking of that, Greg, there's a guy I wanted to
- 8:11Speaker 3: bring up. That's number ninety nine, Zach Allen, who not
- 8:14Speaker 3: only a good player at him yet not a lot
- 8:16Speaker 3: of people talk about him. Out of Boston College, he
- 8:18Speaker 3: became a very underrated star for the Cardinals side a
- 8:21Speaker 3: really big free agent deal yep a few years ago.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Give us an idea of what he does for the defense.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Well, first of all, he can win one on one
- 8:29Speaker 4: in the as a pass rusher, but he's a really
- 8:32Speaker 4: good run defender as well. I mean, and he can
- 8:34Speaker 4: line up in multiple positions inside along your defensive front,
- 8:38Speaker 4: depending on how vance Josaph wants to align it. But
- 8:41Speaker 4: he's just he's long. He's probably two eighty five. I mean,
- 8:45Speaker 4: he's not one of those little guys. He's a big,
- 8:48Speaker 4: big guy and he uses his length really really well.
- 8:51Speaker 4: He's he's just one of those guys at him that
- 8:54Speaker 4: you know, because he doesn't get fifteen sacks. You know,
- 8:57Speaker 4: people probably don't know that much about him unless you
- 8:59Speaker 4: follow the closely. But as a complete defensive tackle, he's
- 9:04Speaker 4: probably top five in the league. You know. Again, there's
- 9:09Speaker 4: probably guys who you think of is better pass rushers
- 9:12Speaker 4: just pure pass rushers, but he's a really complete player.
- 9:16Speaker 4: And don't fall asleep on John Franklin Myers either. Now
- 9:19Speaker 4: he's the quicker of the two in just in terms
- 9:21Speaker 4: of you know, natural juice, and he's another guy you
- 9:24Speaker 4: can line him up anywhere. But he's tough inside as well.
- 9:28Speaker 4: So this is this is not an easy group to
- 9:30Speaker 4: play against.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's also a deep group. Greg when
- 9:33Speaker 1: you talk about you know, watch some tape and I saw, hey,
- 9:36Speaker 1: Jonah ellis on the edges there, he's causing some havoc.
- 9:40Speaker 1: DeAndre Tieman gets in there, you mentioned or Adam did
- 9:43Speaker 1: earlier in the week a couple of there. They have
- 9:45Speaker 1: a saveon Jones and who comes in and does something.
- 9:48Speaker 4: He's looking from Lsu who's a big kid as well. Yeah,
- 9:52Speaker 4: you know what's funny, I did? I did Alis coming out.
- 9:55Speaker 4: I believe he's Utah. He's, you know, one of the Alice.
- 9:58Speaker 4: He's been better than I thought. I'll be the first
- 10:00Speaker 4: to admit it. I mean, I didn't think he was
- 10:01Speaker 4: a bad prospect, but to me, he's played with a
- 10:04Speaker 4: lot more quickness and juice in the NFL in his
- 10:07Speaker 4: year and a half or a year and four games
- 10:09Speaker 4: than he did in college. So he's turned out better
- 10:12Speaker 4: than I thought he'd be. And he's he he has
- 10:16Speaker 4: a lot of good snaps and he's he's a good
- 10:17Speaker 4: pass rusher as well. So and our old friend Alex Singleton.
- 10:22Speaker 4: He never comes off the field. How does it? You know? Greg?
- 10:25Speaker 3: The word I got from people close the situation was,
- 10:28Speaker 3: you know he under Schwartz. You know, the live backers
- 10:31Speaker 3: play a little bit further back. He might have been
- 10:33Speaker 3: laid to the ball. But you just talk about he
- 10:36Speaker 3: plays every snap. He gets paid a lot of money,
- 10:38Speaker 3: by the way, he got a huge free agent contract.
- 10:40Speaker 3: A lot of tackles. Tackles are misleading. It's not a
- 10:42Speaker 3: great stat How does that takee look like to you? How
- 10:45Speaker 3: does he play?
- 10:45Speaker 4: Yeah, But but it becomes more than tackles, because if they're
- 10:47Speaker 4: not going to take him off the field at that
- 10:49Speaker 4: means they think that in every package, and he plays
- 10:52Speaker 4: in every package, he doesn't come off the field, that
- 10:54Speaker 4: he is not a liability. I mean that is more
- 10:57Speaker 4: than not that he's not a liability. He's a really
- 10:59Speaker 4: good player. He's incredibly active. I mean, you know tackles. Look,
- 11:05Speaker 4: we know that tackles for a linebacker. You have to
- 11:07Speaker 4: look at the plays. But he is a very very
- 11:10Speaker 4: active player. He's got good size, he's got good length.
- 11:14Speaker 4: He's a plus athlete, not a super athlete, but he's
- 11:17Speaker 4: a plus athlete. He's just a good player. And you know,
- 11:22Speaker 4: and the other kid who plays stranad he's been there
- 11:25Speaker 4: for a couple of years. He's a long, athletic kid.
- 11:28Speaker 4: I mean, not again, we're not talking about a top
- 11:31Speaker 4: five linebacker in the league. But this kid's like six
- 11:33Speaker 4: three two forty. You know, they've got a lot of
- 11:36Speaker 4: length and a lot of plus athletes.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Yeah, he's just aod ah.
- 11:42Speaker 2: I've been waiting for.
- 11:43Speaker 1: That one oh day, right right, right right, So Greg,
- 11:46Speaker 1: I would think that, I mean, I believe I would
- 11:49Speaker 1: imagine every offensive coach or coordinator would tell you the
- 11:52Speaker 1: goal every week is to be ahead of the sticks
- 11:56Speaker 1: and to be on script. I would think when you're
- 12:00Speaker 1: playing this Broncos pass rush and defense, which also will
- 12:03Speaker 1: get to the secondary in a second, it is ultra
- 12:06Speaker 1: important for an Eagles offensive line that is sort of
- 12:08Speaker 1: struggling right now in a run game, that's trying to
- 12:11Speaker 1: find itself, just to be ahead of the sticks to
- 12:15Speaker 1: begin with, and then if you can, then maybe you
- 12:18Speaker 1: can get some of your no huddle going. But I
- 12:20Speaker 1: would think that primary objective is to get positive plays
- 12:24Speaker 1: as much an early as.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Possible, of course, and that's always the objective, but you know,
- 12:29Speaker 4: still they're still a running team. For instance, through four games,
- 12:32Speaker 4: Saquon Barkley has the most first down carries in the NFL.
- 12:36Speaker 4: He's carried the ball fifty times on first down, but
- 12:38Speaker 4: he's averaging three point one yards per rush, which is
- 12:41Speaker 4: not good enough. Now we've discussed the reasons why we
- 12:44Speaker 4: don't need to get into all that. Again, we've done that.
- 12:46Speaker 4: We're trying to look ahead. Now that's not going to
- 12:49Speaker 4: be good enough. Now again, this could be a game
- 12:53Speaker 4: where you see them get Hurts more involved in the
- 12:56Speaker 4: design run game, because you have a lot of juice
- 13:00Speaker 4: off the edge and a lot of reactive juice. You know,
- 13:03Speaker 4: these guys fire, you know, so Benito's a very quick athlete,
- 13:07Speaker 4: Cooper's a quick athlete. Jonas Alice joanah Alis is a
- 13:10Speaker 4: very reactive player. You know, he sees it and goes.
- 13:13Speaker 4: So maybe one way to help the run game is
- 13:16Speaker 4: to bring in some more zone read concepts and you know,
- 13:20Speaker 4: things where you try to use their speed and their
- 13:22Speaker 4: reactive ability against them. Again, I don't know if they'll
- 13:25Speaker 4: do that. It was just a thought I had and
- 13:27Speaker 4: thinking about this game.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I was just gonna say, I thought, just watching tape
- 13:33Speaker 1: on them, Greg and because they go up against Mahomes
- 13:36Speaker 1: and Herbert and this year they had to face Daniel Jones,
- 13:38Speaker 1: and I watched a lot of their third down snaps
- 13:41Speaker 1: that the Broncos are pretty disciplined in how they watch
- 13:45Speaker 1: these quarterbacks and then they'll stunt over them across the
- 13:49Speaker 1: middle while the edges.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Come wid Yeah.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, So I think that's going to pose a
- 13:55Speaker 1: challenge for Herz, who likes to then take advantage when
- 13:58Speaker 1: those rushers get north to get but they're gonna it.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Seems like their goal is to try to keep guys
- 14:02Speaker 1: like him from doing that and still collapsing the pocket
- 14:06Speaker 1: around him.
- 14:07Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think most teams think that way. It's
- 14:10Speaker 4: how you can execute it. But but yeah, this is
- 14:14Speaker 4: a tough defense to play against. I mean, they've got length,
- 14:16Speaker 4: they've got speed, they're good players. And we haven't even
- 14:19Speaker 4: spoken about the back end too, which is pretty good.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Oh, we're getting there, so let's let's let's get there.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Let's go. But we'll get to certain in a minute.
- 14:28Speaker 3: But a guy that I like for the draft and
- 14:30Speaker 3: some teams, Greg told me Riley Moss. You know what,
- 14:32Speaker 3: he's high hipped, he's got to play safe. You're not
- 14:35Speaker 3: sure if he's going to make it as a corner. Well,
- 14:37Speaker 3: you've seen his tape. How's how's Riley Moss been playing
- 14:40Speaker 3: out of Iowa at corner?
- 14:41Speaker 4: Well, first of all. I thought he was a corner
- 14:43Speaker 4: coming out of college and met Bowen and I had
- 14:45Speaker 4: numerous conversations about him because he's obviously very close to
- 14:48Speaker 4: the Iowa program and I thought, given his size, his speed,
- 14:52Speaker 4: his length, that he could play corner in this league.
- 14:54Speaker 4: And obviously he can. He's the starting corner on a
- 14:56Speaker 4: good defense. So their corners are really good. You know.
- 15:00Speaker 4: The question is will Certan, who more often than not
- 15:04Speaker 4: does line up over quality receivers. I mean, for instance,
- 15:08Speaker 4: he lined up over Clinton Johnston pretty much every snap,
- 15:11Speaker 4: So will he line up over aj I would think yes,
- 15:15Speaker 4: But again we don't know the answer to that, but
- 15:17Speaker 4: I would think yes. The other interesting thing about their
- 15:20Speaker 4: defense on the back end is Jday Baron has not
- 15:22Speaker 4: been able to beat at Jawan McMillan is the slot
- 15:24Speaker 4: corner Jaday barn plays in their dying. He does not
- 15:27Speaker 4: play in their nickel, so Jaquan Millan has fended him
- 15:30Speaker 4: off up to this point in time. And McMillan's actually
- 15:33Speaker 4: a pretty good slot. He's been their starter for a
- 15:35Speaker 4: couple of years and he's been a really good slot
- 15:38Speaker 4: and their safety position. I remember when he was with
- 15:42Speaker 4: Miami maybe two three years ago, and Vicnoe will know
- 15:46Speaker 4: him very well. Brandon Jones is a very good football player,
- 15:50Speaker 4: and you know, and he's just one of those guys. Again,
- 15:54Speaker 4: not a lot of people know about him. He's a
- 15:56Speaker 4: really good player. And they signed Hufanga from the Niners
- 16:00Speaker 4: and he's a physical, tough kid. I mean, they're really
- 16:03Speaker 4: good on the back end. They're really good on the
- 16:05Speaker 4: back it's just a it's a good defense. Yeah.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Vince Joseph is surprising to me, well not surprising, but
- 16:11Speaker 1: he's one of the few guys I guess who has
- 16:13Speaker 1: elite pass rush and very elite you know, corner but
- 16:17Speaker 1: still blitzes at a thirty percent or more rate, which normally,
- 16:22Speaker 1: if you think you've got guys who can cover and
- 16:24Speaker 1: guys who can rush, you don't have to. You know,
- 16:26Speaker 1: Vic could never do that because there's a phil he
- 16:28Speaker 1: needs to. But it just seems like that's Vin. Well,
- 16:31Speaker 1: we know that that's Vince Joseph's identity and what he likes.
- 16:33Speaker 4: He's done that. But you know, it's funny because like
- 16:36Speaker 4: I said, there have been games, I mean when they
- 16:38Speaker 4: played the Colts, they blitzed something like seventy percent of
- 16:41Speaker 4: the snatch. I mean it was crazy. But they haven't
- 16:43Speaker 4: done that obviously every game. They're not going to do
- 16:46Speaker 4: that every game. But he will bring it, you know,
- 16:50Speaker 4: and he obviously feels comfortable with his corners on the
- 16:53Speaker 4: back end. I mean certain is top one or top two,
- 16:57Speaker 4: you know, whatever your point of view is, Moss is
- 16:59Speaker 4: he'll give up some plays. Moss, but he's a quality
- 17:01Speaker 4: NFL corner. And you know the other thing he's pretty
- 17:05Speaker 4: good at is uh And more and more teams do this.
- 17:08Speaker 4: I see it all the time. I think it's becoming
- 17:10Speaker 4: just the way teams play defense is a late coverage
- 17:12Speaker 4: rotation a lot of because what a lot of teams
- 17:15Speaker 4: like to do because it impacts your protection, is they
- 17:18Speaker 4: line up with six or seven guys on the ball
- 17:21Speaker 4: and you've got to account for them and your protection
- 17:23Speaker 4: because you can't guess. So then what happens is they
- 17:26Speaker 4: drop people out and you get a lot of late
- 17:27Speaker 4: coverage rotation and they make the quarterback have to decipher
- 17:31Speaker 4: that on his drop.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Right, Greg, here's the question I have. We're speaking so
- 17:35Speaker 3: globally about this defense. How do you beat them? Oh?
- 17:38Speaker 4: I mean, look, you know, no defense is not beatable.
- 17:41Speaker 4: I mean, if you can control their pass rush, you know,
- 17:43Speaker 4: which you can. I mean the Eagles theoretically do have
- 17:47Speaker 4: a good old line. It hasn't been up to the
- 17:49Speaker 4: same standard as the last two three years. Riley Moss.
- 17:53Speaker 4: Teams do go after and there have been times when
- 17:55Speaker 4: they've beaten him the last year or so. So you know, look,
- 17:59Speaker 4: I don't want to make it sound like you know,
- 18:01Speaker 4: nothing is one hundred percent in this league, as you know.
- 18:04Speaker 4: I mean, teams have bad games. It's just the way
- 18:07Speaker 4: it goes because they got to attack. They got to attack, yeah,
- 18:10Speaker 4: but you got to protect. And it's just it's got
- 18:12Speaker 4: good players at all three levels. I mean, they're a
- 18:14Speaker 4: good defense.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:15Speaker 1: I Mean, one thing that's sort of glaringly evident about
- 18:18Speaker 1: how to move the ball against the Bronco so far
- 18:20Speaker 1: is that Jonathan Taylor, who's an excellent running back at
- 18:23Speaker 1: one hundred and sixty five rushing yards against them. And
- 18:27Speaker 1: I think if you combine what Hampton did with Najie
- 18:30Speaker 1: Harris before he got hurt, they were running the ball
- 18:32Speaker 1: fairly well too.
- 18:32Speaker 2: They ran for overall hundred yards.
- 18:34Speaker 1: So if there's going to be a week that the
- 18:37Speaker 1: Eagles need to get Saquon Barkley going, it would imaginably
- 18:41Speaker 1: be this week.
- 18:42Speaker 2: This game.
- 18:43Speaker 4: I mean, I think they want to get him going,
- 18:45Speaker 4: no matter who they're playing against, because that's sort of
- 18:47Speaker 4: foundational to who they are. We discussed, of course last week,
- 18:51Speaker 4: that it's just so odd, you know, what their offensive
- 18:55Speaker 4: situation is right now. And of course people can will
- 18:58Speaker 4: always say, well, it doesn't matter there four and oh
- 19:00Speaker 4: and that's all that matters. Sure, and you know you'd
- 19:03Speaker 4: rather be four and oh than one in three given
- 19:04Speaker 4: the way your your offense is playing. But no one's
- 19:07Speaker 4: happy about the way their offense is playing. I mean,
- 19:10Speaker 4: come on, let's be realistic here. You know you can't
- 19:12Speaker 4: just dismiss it because they're four and oh and act
- 19:15Speaker 4: like it's all's wonderful, you know, in in Eagleville, because
- 19:18Speaker 4: it's not right.
- 19:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna go out on the limb guys and say
- 19:21Speaker 1: that I don't think one hundred and thirty eight passing
- 19:23Speaker 1: yards is going to cut it in this game unless
- 19:26Speaker 1: they get a huge monster runs crazy.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Right, let me ask you one question, Jday Baron right now,
- 19:32Speaker 3: I know some teams, Hey, he's small, I know he's
- 19:35Speaker 3: a good player. Is he a nickel or is he
- 19:37Speaker 3: a corner?
- 19:38Speaker 4: He's a nick?
- 19:39Speaker 3: How did you see him? Greg because a nickel? Oh?
- 19:42Speaker 4: Wow, I saw him as a nick. Now he played
- 19:44Speaker 4: nickel two years ago at Texas, and his last year
- 19:46Speaker 4: at Texas they brought him he played mostly outside. I
- 19:50Speaker 4: saw him as a nickel, and I think he'll still
- 19:52Speaker 4: be a very good player. I liked you, Dave Baron
- 19:54Speaker 4: a lot. But McMillan, you know, he's one of those small,
- 19:57Speaker 4: feisty guys. And clearly you know, look, we're not at practice,
- 20:01Speaker 4: we're not in the meetings. Maybe there's some week where
- 20:04Speaker 4: all of a sudden it changes and Barron is this
- 20:06Speaker 4: is the slot corner. Maybe it's this week. We don't
- 20:08Speaker 4: know the answer to that. But up until now, which
- 20:11Speaker 4: is all we have on tape, is McMillan is the
- 20:13Speaker 4: slot corner and barn plays in the dime.
- 20:16Speaker 2: All right, good stuff.
- 20:17Speaker 1: As we transition to the other sides, I will say
- 20:20Speaker 1: I'll leave it with this. I think that under the
- 20:21Speaker 1: spotlight this week, Jurgens, Dickerson and Barkley in past protection,
- 20:27Speaker 1: if you know they've we've talked about them, they've been
- 20:30Speaker 1: a little shoddy, all three at times in pass pro
- 20:34Speaker 1: and it sounds like the way the Broncos want to
- 20:36Speaker 1: play defense and line up multiple guys over them and
- 20:38Speaker 1: maybe for some five out situations or some situations where
- 20:42Speaker 1: you're blocking somebody who's not coming. I think it's gonna
- 20:45Speaker 1: be really important for the O line and the running
- 20:47Speaker 1: backs to be in communication and pick up the correct
- 20:50Speaker 1: rushers when they're coming.
- 20:51Speaker 4: Well, and they're also look, they're gonna they watch tape,
- 20:54Speaker 4: so you know what they're going to know that sometimes
- 20:56Speaker 4: Barkley has issues in past pro YEA, and they're gonna
- 20:59Speaker 4: make him have to protect. You can do that. You
- 21:01Speaker 4: can always set up your rush because coaches understand how
- 21:05Speaker 4: teams protect. You know this is this is not a newsflash.
- 21:09Speaker 4: Coaches understand that, so you can always make the back
- 21:12Speaker 4: have to protect.
- 21:14Speaker 1: I saw a really interesting rep where that Joseph had
- 21:17Speaker 1: six guys at the line and he rushed maybe seven,
- 21:20Speaker 1: he rushed six, but Benito wasn't one, and he decked
- 21:23Speaker 1: the running back. You know, he kind of almost chipped
- 21:26Speaker 1: the running back right, throw him off off the range.
- 21:29Speaker 1: And that's exactly where the QB wanted to go because
- 21:30Speaker 1: he had everybody coming at him. So definitely, look as
- 21:34Speaker 1: we talk to the listeners and viewers here, definitely look
- 21:36Speaker 1: for some interesting things on defense that you may not
- 21:39Speaker 1: typically or ordinarily see from week to week.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Bye, let's transition.
- 21:43Speaker 1: We'll talk about the Eagles defense against this Broncos offense.
- 21:47Speaker 4: One final point. Sure, I think when you play Jalen
- 21:50Speaker 4: Hurts and teams study this. They study how quarterbacks who
- 21:53Speaker 4: like to scramble, how they scramble. You know, where do
- 21:57Speaker 4: they go? Some guys run up the middle. Lamar to
- 22:00Speaker 4: run up the middle. You know, they study that because
- 22:03Speaker 4: what teams often do is they know they can make
- 22:06Speaker 4: the quarterback move, but they want to then be in
- 22:09Speaker 4: position knowing how he likes to move. Mm hm, you
- 22:13Speaker 4: follow what I'm saying, absolutely, yeah, because you don't want
- 22:16Speaker 4: to just make a move and then he runs for
- 22:17Speaker 4: twenty yards. So now, again it doesn't always work because
- 22:20Speaker 4: quarterbacks then move are usually good at it. But you
- 22:23Speaker 4: want to be in a position that if you make
- 22:25Speaker 4: him move, you then are in a position to respond
- 22:28Speaker 4: to how he moves.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Excellent, All right, let's get into the other sides of
- 22:32Speaker 1: the ball. First, we're gonna hear a word from our
- 22:33Speaker 1: great sponsors. Hey, you know that one guy in the
- 22:36Speaker 1: group chat. Who hit a five leg parlay Week one
- 22:39Speaker 1: and he wouldn't shut up about it for the rest
- 22:41Speaker 1: of the season. Sounds like Kaplin, right, yeah, yeah, it.
- 22:44Speaker 5: Could be him, It could be you, and we would
- 22:48Speaker 5: all want to be you. My bookie makes it stupid

- 25:05Speaker 1: and support the show. All Right, this Eagles defense against
- 25:08Speaker 1: a Broncos offense that much like the Eagles offense. It's
- 25:12Speaker 1: been a little inconsistent this year. Let's start with bo Nicks,
- 25:16Speaker 1: your two of the system here. What do you see
- 25:19Speaker 1: on tape from both this year?
- 25:20Speaker 4: I think he's struggled a lot early and he's gradually
- 25:24Speaker 4: getting better. I thought that early in the season, first
- 25:27Speaker 4: two games in particular, I thought he was hesitant in
- 25:30Speaker 4: the pocket when the picture was cloudy. I thought at
- 25:33Speaker 4: times he had almost panic reactions to pressure. There were
- 25:37Speaker 4: times I almost thought he invented pressure, breaking down when
- 25:39Speaker 4: there were nobodies around him, that he had happy feet,
- 25:42Speaker 4: and he missed a lot of you know what we
- 25:44Speaker 4: would call layup throws. He started to get better week three,
- 25:48Speaker 4: and then I thought this week he was the best
- 25:50Speaker 4: he's been up to this point. But early in those
- 25:53Speaker 4: first two games, to use Adam's favorite phrase, he was
- 25:57Speaker 4: a tough watch. But he's got shirt. Yeah, he's literally
- 26:01Speaker 4: gotten better.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Let me ask his question, Greg so This is another guy.
- 26:04Speaker 3: We talked about Riley Moss. The perception come out of
- 26:06Speaker 3: Iowa and he's beaten the perceptions. Bonix is another guy. Actually,
- 26:11Speaker 3: even it was stronger that there was. There's not a
- 26:13Speaker 3: lot of love for him. The scouting community talk about
- 26:15Speaker 3: guys who actually scouted him on the road, you know,
- 26:18Speaker 3: they bring up what happened at another was at Auburn.
- 26:21Speaker 4: When he left Auburn after three years, he was probably
- 26:24Speaker 4: a non draftable player.
- 26:25Speaker 3: That's my point, and I think that was probably part
- 26:27Speaker 3: of it. But a lot of guys had him again
- 26:31Speaker 3: third round. Sean Payton, who had a lot of say
- 26:34Speaker 3: in it, loved him. That was this guy for the draft.
- 26:37Speaker 3: Let's look at his college tape versus his protape BONEX,
- 26:40Speaker 3: what are your thoughts there?
- 26:42Speaker 4: Well, I will tell you this. His two years at
- 26:45Speaker 4: Oregon were very very good. I mean, and his last
- 26:48Speaker 4: year in particular. And this is his second year in
- 26:50Speaker 4: the league, right, So he was in the twenty twenty
- 26:52Speaker 4: fourth draft, correct, yep. So just to refresh, you know,
- 26:56Speaker 4: because you know, this is what I do. Here's what
- 26:59Speaker 4: I on bon Knicks my last and of course I do.
- 27:04Speaker 4: I try to do all the top quarterbacks before I
- 27:06Speaker 4: even get to the combine, and you know, at the
- 27:08Speaker 4: end of February, because obviously I do radio shows there
- 27:11Speaker 4: and all I get asked about is the quarterbacks. So
- 27:14Speaker 4: the last lion I type in his transition, You guys,
- 27:18Speaker 4: now I do this, I do strength the weaknesses in
- 27:20Speaker 4: a transition. My last line was I could see a
- 27:23Speaker 4: coach like Sean Payton believing that Nicks could run his
- 27:26Speaker 4: offense effectively with the timing and earthm element, that it's
- 27:29Speaker 4: foundational and the fact that power arm strength is not
- 27:32Speaker 4: a prerequisite. And by the way, he's showing a better
- 27:34Speaker 4: arm than I even thought. But I really thought that
- 27:37Speaker 4: he would fit a Sean Payton offense. And as I said,
- 27:40Speaker 4: I wrote that in February before the combat, I didn't
- 27:42Speaker 4: know Sean Payton was going to draft them, but you know,
- 27:45Speaker 4: and I got a chance to talk to Bo Nicks
- 27:47Speaker 4: leading up to the draft, and he did something that
- 27:50Speaker 4: is rarely ever done by college quarterbacks the day these days.
- 27:53Speaker 4: He controlled and called the protections. And I guarantee that
- 27:57Speaker 4: that really endeared him to Sean Peyton, because you know,
- 28:01Speaker 4: college quarterbacks don't deal with protections. There's a lot of
- 28:04Speaker 4: NFL quarterbacks now that don't deal with protections. That's all.
- 28:07Speaker 4: That's a different conversation for another time. But but Nix
- 28:12Speaker 4: was incredibly intelligent and incredibly aware, and you know, and
- 28:16Speaker 4: he's a coach's son. You know, he gets it, you know,
- 28:20Speaker 4: and and he you know, ultimately, what do coaches want?
- 28:24Speaker 4: They want an executor and a distributor. They love a
- 28:26Speaker 4: guy to have some mobility, which Nicks clearly has. So
- 28:30Speaker 4: he fits what pretty much every coach would want. You know.
- 28:34Speaker 4: The question about and more Adam was probably maybe people
- 28:37Speaker 4: didn't think he was gifted enough. I tell you what
- 28:39Speaker 4: I thought last year as a rookie. He made some
- 28:42Speaker 4: throws because arm strength is not throwing a post. Arm
- 28:45Speaker 4: strength is throwing a deep dig, you know, between people.
- 28:49Speaker 4: And he threw a couple of balls last year where
- 28:51Speaker 4: I just went, Wow, his arm is better than I thought.
- 28:53Speaker 2: It was interesting.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Let's talk about the offensive line.
- 28:58Speaker 4: Then.
- 28:58Speaker 1: This Broncos offensive li like touted as being pretty good.
- 29:01Speaker 4: Do you see it?
- 29:02Speaker 1: Yeah, the same way I think.
- 29:04Speaker 4: I think mcglinchy is a weak spot in terms of
- 29:07Speaker 4: one on one pass pro But again they don't necessarily
- 29:10Speaker 4: do a ton of that. But you know, if you
- 29:12Speaker 4: get them at third and nine or third and twelve,
- 29:14Speaker 4: they'll they'll do that because Sean Payton wants to get
- 29:17Speaker 4: five out. So you know, I've always thought, even going
- 29:21Speaker 4: back to a San Francisco days, and even though he
- 29:24Speaker 4: was a top ten pick, that that mcglinchy was in
- 29:28Speaker 4: one on one pass pro. I think he's can be
- 29:30Speaker 4: a liability.
- 29:32Speaker 1: So he'll see he'll he'll see let's see the left
- 29:35Speaker 1: defensive end edge of the Eagles, so.
- 29:37Speaker 4: He'll probably see j Zadarius Smith.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Although I thought Smith has mostly been lining up over
- 29:44Speaker 1: on the right side over left tackle.
- 29:46Speaker 4: He lined up at left defensive left age a number
- 29:50Speaker 4: of times last week.
- 29:51Speaker 3: I know that right now it's going to bring out
- 29:57Speaker 3: in terms of their their running game. You just brought
- 30:00Speaker 3: up the offensive line, which is important, by the way.
- 30:03Speaker 4: Yeah. JK.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Dobbins is what a great story acl Achilles Levi chargers
- 30:09Speaker 3: and rushing last year. How's it worked out for him?
- 30:11Speaker 3: At RJ. Harvey So far from your TAM's done.
- 30:13Speaker 4: I think Dobbins is looking good. He's I think he's
- 30:17Speaker 4: a patient runner. I think he's got really good vision.
- 30:20Speaker 4: I think he does a great job of reading what
- 30:22Speaker 4: I call gap fluidity because the gaps changed when the
- 30:25Speaker 4: ball snapped. I think he has a really good sense
- 30:27Speaker 4: of defensive flow. He's kind of a pace and tempo runner.
- 30:30Speaker 4: Keep in mind, also, guys, that they've played the most
- 30:33Speaker 4: snaps with six offensive linemen of any team in the
- 30:36Speaker 4: league through four weeks, so they're willing to line up
- 30:39Speaker 4: and run the football with big people.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Harvey didn't.
- 30:44Speaker 1: I think he's sort of been integrated into the offense
- 30:47Speaker 1: more over the last week or two, right.
- 30:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it was tough to tell because last
- 30:51Speaker 4: week they got ahead, you know, late in the game,
- 30:52Speaker 4: and I'm sure at that point they're going to give
- 30:54Speaker 4: Harvey more carries. But Harvey is an interesting guy too.
- 30:57Speaker 4: Harvey's got some serious juice now, yeah, really quick. So
- 31:01Speaker 4: I don't know, you know, if the game is close
- 31:04Speaker 4: and kind of a normal game, I can't tell you
- 31:06Speaker 4: how much they'll use both guys. I would say Dobbins
- 31:09Speaker 4: is clearly their their number one back, but you know,
- 31:14Speaker 4: they may play Harvey a lot. I don't know the
- 31:16Speaker 4: answer to that. But he's Harvey is. He's a fascinating guy.
- 31:20Speaker 4: I really liked his tape a lot.
- 31:23Speaker 3: And Jeff always remember Sean Payton, his big balance guy.
- 31:25Speaker 3: He will run the football. Yeah, he's a really good
- 31:28Speaker 3: play caller, design and all that, but he's committed to
- 31:30Speaker 3: running the football. That's been sort of what his foundation
- 31:32Speaker 3: has been, quite frankly to a certain extent.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Yeah, seems committed to giving a lot of different guys
- 31:37Speaker 1: a lot of carries. I mean, this year, finally it's
- 31:39Speaker 1: down to Dobbins and now Harvey. But my gosh, has
- 31:42Speaker 1: he gone through running backs over the last.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Number Javonte Williams. He saw that he was never right
- 31:47Speaker 3: with the knee injury, right, he went for it. He
- 31:50Speaker 3: kept rotating gospel estimate by.
- 31:53Speaker 1: I mean, I mean everybody, he's just throwing guy, and
- 31:55Speaker 1: each week it would be a different leading rusher. So
- 31:58Speaker 1: I don't know, it's looking for something that wasn't there.
- 32:00Speaker 1: But now he's got some. You know, Dobbins, your hope
- 32:02Speaker 1: stays healthy. It seems like a nice thunder and lightning combo.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Dobbins can hitch you and Harvey can catch the ball.
- 32:09Speaker 4: And where the one other thing? Just to make a point.
- 32:11Speaker 4: Every once in a while, they line up in what
- 32:13Speaker 4: we call oh one personnel, meaning they have one tight
- 32:15Speaker 4: end and four wide receivers. They scored a touchdown on
- 32:18Speaker 4: it last week to Courtland Sutton or the end of
- 32:20Speaker 4: the first half if you saw the game Monday night,
- 32:23Speaker 4: you know they hit him on the steam ball, you know,
- 32:26Speaker 4: so that you know Seawn's always willing to do those
- 32:28Speaker 4: kinds of things. You know, you have to be aware,
- 32:31Speaker 4: you know. Look, that's what coaches, defensive coaches look at.
- 32:34Speaker 4: They're aware of these things, you know, and then you
- 32:36Speaker 4: have to if you have to have a plan, like
- 32:38Speaker 4: when they when they threw that touchdown to Sutton on
- 32:40Speaker 4: you know, at the end of the first half against
- 32:41Speaker 4: Cincinnati had of oh one personnel, they were in an
- 32:44Speaker 4: empty set, you know, I mean, you have to understand
- 32:47Speaker 4: what you're going to get from different personnel packages.
- 32:49Speaker 1: That's a great point because and and why you can
- 32:52Speaker 1: maybe expect to see that against the Eagles, who have
- 32:54Speaker 1: all sorts of depth issues. Right now, a corner if
- 32:56Speaker 1: you go, oh one personnel and Vic says, well, I
- 32:59Speaker 1: got a match that with Dime. Now you're talking about
- 33:01Speaker 1: getting Mac McWilliams and another defensive back on the field,
- 33:05Speaker 1: and I don't know who.
- 33:06Speaker 4: Or or if you put that out there early in
- 33:09Speaker 4: the game. Jeff and he doesn't match it with Dime,
- 33:12Speaker 4: then you're pretty much certain you're gonna get zoned because
- 33:15Speaker 4: there's you're not gonna match up, you know, and unless
- 33:17Speaker 4: you feel Johanan Campbell can line up and play a
- 33:19Speaker 4: wide out, I mean, you know you don't want if
- 33:21Speaker 4: you're gonna find out. The point is you're gonna find out.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it could be Jeff, honestly on your point.
- 33:30Speaker 3: We'll get to the issue with Ringo and George Jackson
- 33:34Speaker 3: a second, but this is something not just this game
- 33:37Speaker 3: going forward before the trade deadline comes, they're gonna have
- 33:41Speaker 3: to make a decision because with Bennett's injury another four Oh,
- 33:45Speaker 3: but you got you gotta be proactive.
- 33:47Speaker 4: This this is Jackson. Is he good to go this week?
- 33:49Speaker 3: Yeah, he's cleared. Yeah, he's good to go.
- 33:51Speaker 4: He'll he'll be this daughter. Well.
- 33:53Speaker 3: But but the question is is it good enough? That's
- 33:56Speaker 3: why I'm bringing up it's not been good enough. Jackson
- 33:59Speaker 3: has not played it particularly Hi level on bringa. Okay,
- 34:01Speaker 3: he didn't throw out them much off off when he
- 34:04Speaker 3: wasn't in cut, when he wasn't had the ball wasn't
- 34:07Speaker 3: thrown and he looked fine. But you know what this
- 34:09Speaker 3: team's got there. We're gonna get into it right now, Jeff.
- 34:11Speaker 3: They're really deep at receiver. Prey Frankin run, Mims could run.
- 34:15Speaker 4: I bet.
- 34:15Speaker 3: I always love Sutton, Curt Sutton's a great player, I mean,
- 34:19Speaker 3: really good player. Pat Bryant was one of my favorite
- 34:21Speaker 3: series for the draft. I won't play a ton, but
- 34:23Speaker 3: he's got size. Jeff, this thing is no joking around.
- 34:26Speaker 4: Pick. You know, there are some weeks he's played in,
- 34:28Speaker 4: some weeks he hasn't. I really like the kid coming
- 34:31Speaker 4: out from Illinois. Really good receiver, just off the speed,
- 34:34Speaker 4: you know, but a really good receiver, you know. You know,
- 34:37Speaker 4: Franklin is a speed guy, not you know, not a
- 34:39Speaker 4: big guy. I mean, we'll see, I mean, you know.
- 34:42Speaker 4: And Marvin Mims is kind of the wild card, although
- 34:44Speaker 4: he's lined up amazingly enough this year, much more on
- 34:47Speaker 4: the outside than in the slot, which would surprise me
- 34:50Speaker 4: when I you know, do watching their tape for four
- 34:53Speaker 4: games because he but he is kind of the movement guy.
- 34:56Speaker 4: So again, he's a guy that will use in motion
- 34:58Speaker 4: a lot.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Yeah you know, I think this situation once again begs
- 35:02Speaker 1: for vict to match up Quinnon Mitchell against Courtland Sutton,
- 35:05Speaker 1: who is clearly I would say head and shoulders above
- 35:08Speaker 1: the red.
- 35:08Speaker 4: I mean he's predominantly predominantly their boundary acts now, not
- 35:12Speaker 4: one hundred percent of the time, so doesn't play that way. Hey,
- 35:15Speaker 4: there are times he puts Sutton in the inside slot
- 35:18Speaker 4: in trips and he uses him almost the way he
- 35:20Speaker 4: used Marcus Colston with the Saints. You know, big body
- 35:23Speaker 4: working the middle of the field. But he is their
- 35:25Speaker 4: their predominant boundary ax. So it would not surprise me
- 35:28Speaker 4: at all if Quinyon Mitchell matches him.
- 35:31Speaker 3: Jeff, And don't forget about Evan Ingram, who could run.
- 35:33Speaker 3: I know against a lot, he could run. There's a
- 35:36Speaker 3: reason why they brought him in. So this is challenging, man,
- 35:39Speaker 3: This is this is gonna be fascining to see what
- 35:41Speaker 3: Peyton does.
- 35:42Speaker 4: You got to get pressure on Nicks because he does
- 35:45Speaker 4: have that tendency, like I said, to get a little
- 35:47Speaker 4: frenetic at times, and you got to make him feel
- 35:50Speaker 4: that there's going to be pressure.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Where do you see the advantage for the Eagles in
- 35:55Speaker 1: the trenches here, Greg, would it be overright tackle McGlinchey
- 35:58Speaker 1: with either Zadar a Smith or somebody else or inside.
- 36:03Speaker 4: More, the right guard is Quinn Miners, and that's where
- 36:08Speaker 4: Carter will line up, you know, ninety five percent of
- 36:10Speaker 4: the time, you know, so you'd like to be able
- 36:13Speaker 4: to win there. You know, I think their O line
- 36:17Speaker 4: is solid, you know, it's it's it's a good group,
- 36:22Speaker 4: you know. I think the center and the right guard
- 36:24Speaker 4: and well basically inside is probably where you I think
- 36:27Speaker 4: you and I mentioned McGlinchey. Are they beatable yet? It's
- 36:31Speaker 4: a it's a solid group, but they're not unbeatable. Bowles
- 36:35Speaker 4: is a good player, you know, he usually doesn't give
- 36:37Speaker 4: up much in pass pro.
- 36:40Speaker 2: It's a good match.
- 36:40Speaker 1: It's a good clash of personnel, of talent, of styles.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Would you say, because I know that you said that
- 36:47Speaker 1: Knicks a little shaky beginning, but in general, are they
- 36:51Speaker 1: a take what the defense gives type of offense? Are
- 36:54Speaker 1: they patient enough to work it down the field against
- 36:56Speaker 1: Vick's usual zone defense or do you see him do
- 37:01Speaker 1: you see Nick sort of try to force it?
- 37:03Speaker 4: No, he's not necessarily a force down the field guy. No,
- 37:06Speaker 4: his issue is not that. His issue is he gets
- 37:08Speaker 4: a little for netic. But the other thing to keep
- 37:10Speaker 4: in mind is he can run for first downs he's
- 37:12Speaker 4: a much better athlete than you know, a lot of
- 37:14Speaker 4: people even thought when he came out, and he you know,
- 37:17Speaker 4: that's the thing. He can run for first downs and
- 37:19Speaker 4: you know, we know how much that matters when quarterbacks
- 37:22Speaker 4: can do that, particularly on third down.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Jeff, it's interesting he's had some high volume pass games
- 37:28Speaker 3: or games, but yet very little like first game against Tennessee.
- 37:31Speaker 3: I know it's game one forty tenths, but only one
- 37:34Speaker 3: seventy six. It's really odd. Yeah, on sometimes he sometimes
- 37:38Speaker 3: he's just going to take what's underneath him and just
- 37:40Speaker 3: get rid of the football. But this is, this is, Jeff,
- 37:43Speaker 3: this is I know that Denver's two and two, we're
- 37:44Speaker 3: not We could argue whether they should be two and two,
- 37:48Speaker 3: three and one or four. No, but this is a
- 37:50Speaker 3: talented team that is probably better than the record.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Well, and I also see these teams as very similar
- 37:55Speaker 1: and where they're built, with their strengths, what they do.
- 37:59Speaker 1: I would say that Eagles probrobably when they're at their best,
- 38:01Speaker 1: they're a little more explosive offensively because they have great
- 38:04Speaker 1: receivers compared to the Broncos have one very good receiver,
- 38:07Speaker 1: but the quarterback for the Broncos can hurt you. As
- 38:10Speaker 1: Greg just mentioned, he can get out of pressure and
- 38:12Speaker 1: run and scramble in the greens.
- 38:15Speaker 4: Even though the Broncos even Sutton, even though Sutton would
- 38:18Speaker 4: probably be considered clearly the most consistent receiver, both Franklin
- 38:22Speaker 4: and Mims can run. Yeah, that's where you got to
- 38:25Speaker 4: be a little careful because you know, you know, we
- 38:27Speaker 4: talk about a Dori Jackson. I mean, you gotta be
- 38:29Speaker 4: you gotta be a little careful here. You know, they
- 38:31Speaker 4: might not be high volume targets, but they can run.
- 38:35Speaker 3: Remember Mims was like supposedly need the lead deep for
- 38:38Speaker 3: a coming out of Oklahoma. And remember Franklin played with
- 38:41Speaker 3: bow knicks at Argon. So this is this is interesting, Mata.
- 38:44Speaker 3: We're giving a lot of platitudes here for the Denver
- 38:46Speaker 3: because they have a lot of talent. But Jeff, you're
- 38:49Speaker 3: alluding to it. If the Eagles Shoul could just put
- 38:50Speaker 3: it together some of some consistency, this could be a
- 38:55Speaker 3: very interesting matchup because Jeff, Greg just talked about it
- 38:58Speaker 3: like the Broncos have a beatable offensive line. I mean,
- 39:00Speaker 3: it's it's fine. Yeah, there's some matchups that the Egos
- 39:03Speaker 3: are going to win. They just have to exploit them.
- 39:05Speaker 4: And if you get Nick's uncomfortable, Jeff, you know, he'll
- 39:08Speaker 4: throw some picks too, if you get them uncomfortable. I
- 39:10Speaker 4: mean that's you know, I don't want to make it
- 39:12Speaker 4: seem just like we talk about their defense like, oh
- 39:14Speaker 4: my god, this team's you know, they're they're shooting for
- 39:15Speaker 4: the Super Bowl.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Yeah, of course not.
- 39:18Speaker 2: But they may not. They may be the third best
- 39:19Speaker 2: team in their division when all there is.
- 39:21Speaker 4: Solid roster with good players. I mean, you know that's
- 39:24Speaker 4: what they are.

- 41:44Speaker 1: Adam will start with you.
- 41:46Speaker 4: Who's winning?
- 41:46Speaker 2: Got MVP?
- 41:48Speaker 4: All right?
- 41:48Speaker 3: I have it as a very tight game. I've got
- 41:50Speaker 3: the Broncos seventeen the Eagles twenty. You love how I
- 41:55Speaker 3: do that? I see the Eagles winning it at home.
- 41:59Speaker 3: I don't see them lose some way somehow, you know,
- 42:02Speaker 3: special teams. Jake Elliott's been phenomenal. Braid man, it's been phenomenal.
- 42:06Speaker 3: I know we talk. We don't talk a lot about that.
- 42:08Speaker 3: Who's going to be my MVP? Greg gave me a
- 42:11Speaker 3: little bit of a hint. I may I thought about
- 42:13Speaker 3: it a little bit. Maybe the interior of their defensive
- 42:17Speaker 3: line could I don't know shocked the world, but I
- 42:20Speaker 3: know Jalen Carter's dealing with something. But I'm gonna pick
- 42:23Speaker 3: number ninety a guy that is blossomed. That's Jordan Davis.
- 42:27Speaker 3: It's not a guy we would ever think of. He's
- 42:30Speaker 3: coming on, He's for the most part part not playing
- 42:33Speaker 3: high up. He's getting better leverage. There's something about Jordan
- 42:36Speaker 3: Davis that you got to feel good about because, well,
- 42:39Speaker 3: he's maturing. You know, I'm gonna give it to him.
- 42:42Speaker 3: Let's see what happens. And of course it's not a big
- 42:43Speaker 3: sack guy. People, So he didn't have a suck. How
- 42:45Speaker 3: could you say that he has had a sack. But
- 42:48Speaker 3: I get it. But it's everything else that he's doing.
- 42:51Speaker 1: All right, good stuff, Greg, I bring it to you.
- 42:53Speaker 4: I think I'm gonna go Eagles three, Broncos two, with
- 42:56Speaker 4: Duran getting the safe ron A.
- 42:59Speaker 2: They're gonna play the music.
- 43:04Speaker 4: This game is a really hard one because you know,
- 43:08Speaker 4: I think we all feel that there could be any
- 43:10Speaker 4: game at any time where Barkley breaks out, you know,
- 43:13Speaker 4: and even where Hurts throws for you know, not three
- 43:16Speaker 4: fifty because they don't play like that, but two fifty,
- 43:19Speaker 4: and I you know, this is maybe not the defense.
- 43:22Speaker 4: You think that that's gonna happen, of course, Barkley. Could
- 43:25Speaker 4: you know, you can break a long run against any
- 43:27Speaker 4: even the best defense. You can hit a seam and
- 43:29Speaker 4: break a long run.
- 43:30Speaker 3: Jathan Taylor got him badly in Week two though, Yeah, you.
- 43:33Speaker 4: Know, and he had a long run in that game.
- 43:35Speaker 4: I think he had a sixty plus yard run in
- 43:36Speaker 4: that game, if memory sus me correctly, right, you know.
- 43:41Speaker 4: I just again, I try not to be well there
- 43:43Speaker 4: at home, so they're going to win. But I do
- 43:45Speaker 4: think that that matters, particularly in Philly. And you know,
- 43:51Speaker 4: I'm kind of with Adham. I mean, I don't see
- 43:53Speaker 4: this as being a high scoring affair. I was almost
- 43:57Speaker 4: going to pick a very similar score, you know.
- 44:00Speaker 3: So.
- 44:01Speaker 4: I'll just change it a little. I'll go nineteen sixteen,
- 44:04Speaker 4: and I'm going to pick the Eagles, you know, I
- 44:06Speaker 4: just I just there's something about playing at home. You know,
- 44:10Speaker 4: that just matters in Philly. Yeah, you know, But but
- 44:14Speaker 4: I don't know. Offensively, I'm just waiting, and maybe I'll
- 44:17Speaker 4: be waiting for five more weeks. I don't know.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Well, the score like that, I would think your player
- 44:22Speaker 1: of the game might be on defense.
- 44:24Speaker 4: Yeah, you know this is gonna be I guess one
- 44:29Speaker 4: of you guys picked him before, but I believe it
- 44:31Speaker 4: or not, I'm gonna pick queny On Mitchell. I'm just
- 44:36Speaker 4: I think he's playing at such a high level and
- 44:38Speaker 4: I think he's going to match up to Sutton. And
- 44:41Speaker 4: you know, I'm not saying Sutton's gonna have no catches,
- 44:43Speaker 4: but you know he is their main guy. So I'm
- 44:46Speaker 4: gonna pick queny On Mitchell.
- 44:48Speaker 1: All right, we are all This is maybe the first
- 44:50Speaker 1: time in the history of the Inside the Birds pre
- 44:52Speaker 1: game show all three of us are picking a defensive
- 44:55Speaker 1: player to be the game MVP. I don't really like
- 44:59Speaker 1: the vibe from the Eagles offense and with aj Brown
- 45:01Speaker 1: stuff all week, and I think they're walking into a
- 45:04Speaker 1: little bit of a defensive buzzsaw against this Broncos team
- 45:07Speaker 1: that I think will have a very good plan for
- 45:09Speaker 1: how to keep jailing in the pocket and limit a
- 45:12Speaker 1: lot of those backbreaking runs. He even had one last
- 45:14Speaker 1: week for twenty eight yards. So when that happens and
- 45:18Speaker 1: he doesn't get that run element, the Eagles can be
- 45:21Speaker 1: in trouble. And I don't think that they're a worse
- 45:23Speaker 1: team than the Broncos, but it's any given Sunday and
- 45:25Speaker 1: how you match up that weekend. And I think the
- 45:28Speaker 1: Broncos are going to win twenty six to sixteen. And
- 45:31Speaker 1: I think Nick Bonito is going to be as he
- 45:33Speaker 1: lines up over Jordan Mylotta, the player of the game.
- 45:37Speaker 2: I think he's going to cause a lot of havoc opponent.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Oh wow, you're taking the opponent guy, Okay.
- 45:43Speaker 2: Yep, Well, I'm picking the Broncos to win, so.
- 45:46Speaker 3: I'm you're picking the guy from the other team.
- 45:48Speaker 4: Wow. And probably should have picked the field goal kick
- 45:50Speaker 4: or picking a nineteen sixteen score, because yeah, get four
- 45:54Speaker 4: field goals.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Yeah, on like a seventy two yarder because everybody's making
- 45:57Speaker 1: field goals right right, right right, all right? Great stuff.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Love it. That's about as good of a thorough breakdown
- 46:03Speaker 1: as you can ever get on the Eagles versus the Broncos.
- 46:05Speaker 1: And now it's them to them to play the game.
