Transcript
- 0:00All right, y'all. Apparently we have gone over and run out of time,
- 0:07but we figured this might be something that we would run into,
- 0:11especially on topics as deep as they are today.
- 0:16And we really wanted to touch on the 250 thing and get a lot of things off of
- 0:21our chest. So this is a pseudo part two.
- 0:26And this is going to be short, but it's only going to consist of the closing
- 0:32monologue and our outro.
- 0:35So with that being said, KG, the floor is yours.
- 0:39All right. So based on everything we talked about today, this closing monologue
- 0:44is nothing to do with what we just talked. Okay, cool.
- 0:49So I'm saying this with confidence in some of the things that I'm about to say
- 0:54as a light-skinned black man who understands that at some points throughout
- 0:58history, I had more opportunity.
- 1:01I would have had more opportunities than a dark-skinned black man.
- 1:06With that being said, the Celtics shipping Jalen Brown out of Philly for Paul
- 1:12George is a blockbuster on paper.
- 1:15If you understand the history of Boston, it's just business as usual.
- 1:21I don't have a horse in this race, but as a light-skinned man myself,
- 1:25let's just call a spade a spade.
- 1:28Boston did the most Boston thing ever. They looked at two superstars and chose
- 1:32the lighter skin, more easily packaged, corporate marketable player in Jason Tatum.
- 1:38They put all their faith in a guy who, let's be honest, if we're being real,
- 1:43hasn't been a bit better than Jalen his entire career.
- 1:47Statistics show that. Lest we forget, Tatum was down for the majority of the
- 1:52year with a torn Achilles.
- 1:53Who put the city on his back? Jalen Brown. He carried,
- 1:58them to a 56-win season, finished sixth in MVP voting, and poured his soul into
- 2:03that franchise for 10 years, including bringing them banner number 18 as the
- 2:08finals MVP. Let me say that again.
- 2:11He was the finals MVP.
- 2:14Jalen's crime in Boston was never his game.
- 2:17Instead, he's highly intelligent, fiercely independent, and completely outspoken.
- 2:23He doesn't play the safe, packaged media game. He talks directly to the people on his own streams.
- 2:29He challenges the status quo and refuses to be a sanitized product.
- 2:34History tells us that when a dominant, intelligent black athlete refuses to
- 2:38stay in the box the front office builds for him, they get labeled difficult,
- 2:43or too smart for their own good.
- 2:46Boston packed him up because they couldn't control the narrative.
- 2:50They chose a comfortable brand over the man who actually won them their last ring.
- 2:54Philly, you just inherited a hungry, disrespected champion. Boston,
- 3:00you just proved once again who you are.
- 3:03Didn't they do the same thing to Bill Russell? Mm-hmm. Even though he won them,
- 3:07what, seven championships? Eleven.
- 3:10Eleven championships? Two or three as a coach, if I'm not mistaken.
- 3:14And they treated him shady because of the color of his skin?
- 3:20I know some people listening to this going, man, come on, y'all reach.
- 3:23OK, that's fine. You can feel that way based on what I just said.
- 3:27But if you look up the history of that franchise, even Red Arbac had his flaws like crazy.
- 3:33You shipped Jalen Brown away. Well, the whole Lakers Boston rivalry in the 80s,
- 3:41had nothing to do with basketball.
- 3:44It had everything to do with a predominantly white Boston.
- 3:49Celtics team and their two star players being Larry Bird and Kevin McHale versus
- 3:55the Lakers, who were predominantly black team and their two star players being the Muslim,
- 4:03Kareem Abdul-Jabbar,
- 4:06and Magic Johnson.
- 4:07And the young outspoken black kid that didn't take shit from nobody.
- 4:11He smiled a lot, but people forget Magic did not take shit from nobody.
- 4:16Clearly, there was a racial component to the Boston-LA rivalry.
- 4:22They even tried to make Larry Bird, which by the way, for those who don't know.
- 4:26He said he didn't give a shit about none of that.
- 4:27Larry Bird is my second favorite player of all time. Always has been, always will be.
- 4:32He didn't want the whole Isaiah Thomas thing. Right. Well, they got him and
- 4:35Isaiah sitting next to each other talking about it. Larry Bird's like,
- 4:38yo, I ain't got no problem with this dude. When we playing basketball. Right.
- 4:43Magic Johnson ate at Larry Bird's parents' house, a mother's house.
- 4:48Right. You know what I mean? Right.
- 4:50Right. That was society. Yes. Projecting their racial biases onto sports,
- 4:57which is exactly what they're doing with Caitlin Clark.
- 5:01Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. And you know what? I'm glad you brought that up
- 5:05because for those that are listening, yes, we live in Indianapolis.
- 5:09We've been fever fans. We've talked about the fever for years.
- 5:12Tameka Kitchens, one of the greatest. My two favorite WNBA players,
- 5:16I know yours are probably different.
- 5:17Tameka Kitchens is up there. Maya Moore.
- 5:21But if we go back and look at some of the great athletes of the past.
- 5:24Cynthia Cooper, by the way, is Maya. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 5:26Cynthia Cooper was that man.
- 5:28But it's the same thing. Larry Bird didn't speak up because he didn't give a shit.
- 5:34Caitlyn Clark just said something like two days ago.
- 5:39I don't expect her. I don't also old girl that put her fist in her throat.
- 5:43Is it Thompson? Alyssa Thompson? Yeah, Alyssa Thompson.
- 5:46Now, first and foremost, you were wrong.
- 5:50You were. You were wrong. However. To get death threats. To get death threats.
- 5:55Yeah, she pissed me off. So I put my fist in her throat. I don't like her.
- 5:59And guess what she ain't supposed to like that she don't play on her team right.
- 6:05She ain't supposed to lie. Right. But yeah, putting a fist in the throat.
- 6:08Yeah, I'd have probably got to start swinging. You'd have just got to beat me
- 6:11up. She got suspended, though. Yeah, she got suspended.
- 6:13But death threats. Death threats.
- 6:16Right. Like, this is a lady who probably still goes out, runs her own errands,
- 6:20out and about with the community, and now she got to look over her shoulder.
- 6:23Right. It's crazy. But you know what's even crazier?
- 6:27The fact that we just kind of shrugged our shoulders. You know why?
- 6:30Because those death threats are coming from people that live within 20 miles
- 6:33of where we're sitting right now.
- 6:35Facts. Facts, bro.
- 6:38Facts. We know how some. And I understand the fever is not going to come out
- 6:42and say, well, Central Indiana has a history of being racist.
- 6:45But they do. But they do. Yeah. But they do.
- 6:49Klan capital of the world. Right. Wasn't surprising to me at all to see those
- 6:53people giving her those death threats. Yep.
