- 0:00This is Randy Homan with the Becker's Healthcare Podcast.
- 0:03I'm thrilled today to be joined by Marilyn Sand.
- 0:05She's a pediatric dentist at her own practice, Naples Pediatric Dentistry,
- 0:10as well as the founder and CEO of Good Checkup Corporation. Marilyn,
- 0:14will you please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your background.
- 0:18Hi Randy. I'm so excited to be here today. I really appreciate the opportunity.
- 0:24Uh, a little bit about myself is that yes,
- 0:26I am a pediatric dentist by training and I have 20 plus
- 0:31years of clinical experience and also private practice ownership.
- 0:36So I am well versed in all phases of pediatric dentistry and I've always
- 0:41been really excited about innovating in our space. Earlier,
- 0:46um,
- 0:46on in my career I had boosting success with
- 0:51a product that I designed and patented and then brought to market
- 0:56with young innovations called the Zubi Pro Angles.
- 1:00And the intent was to bring more pediatric focus
- 1:05to the dental industry to show that children are individuals,
- 1:09pediatric patients are not just many adults and we need to bring the fund to
- 1:14dentistry.
- 1:14I've been a strong advocate of prevention and I have
- 1:20over the covid d brought something to market that I'm hoping is going
- 1:25to be the next evolution for dentistry and that is to strengthen and empower
- 1:30our patient dentist relationship and elevate our profession through
- 1:34having meaningful conversations. It's a bit lengthy, but that's about me.
- 1:40Definitely about, So interesting. Thank you for sharing.
- 1:43So what are your top priorities today?
- 1:46My top priorities today would say are to continue
- 1:51to move dentistry into the future realm,
- 1:56giving dentists the opportunity to immediately take advantage of
- 2:01cloud-based records systems and to provide
- 2:06excellence in care by providing access to care to patients
- 2:12anywhere.
- 2:13My real priority is to put your office in your hand and
- 2:18see what you can do because patients really appreciate being able to speak with
- 2:23their providers and to be able to onboard them virtually is really
- 2:28the new age and what is in demand.
- 2:31So I'd like to give dentists that opportunity immediately.
- 2:36Definitely, I think it's a great priority.
- 2:39How do you anticipate your role and teams will evolve over the next 18 months?
- 2:46I believe that in the dental profession, as in my practice,
- 2:51our role as dentist is going to evolve
- 2:56in the way of being more of the knowledge provider
- 3:01to be able to establish rapport with patients through acting as
- 3:06the quarterback to care the person that can
- 3:11educate a patient,
- 3:12to empower a patient to improve their healthcare
- 3:17through conversations.
- 3:20And those conversations are most likely going to be taking place more and more
- 3:25virtually so that patients can then be triaged
- 3:30properly and referred properly and just really schedules
- 3:35to become much more efficient.
- 3:37And they're going to be people that are probably new team members that we
- 3:42haven't even envisioned yet providing actual physical care. But again,
- 3:47the goal is to be able to increase our access to
- 3:51care from a patient standpoint and as dentists to be able to increase patient's
- 3:56ability to communicate with us as professionals.
- 4:02Mm-hmm. definitely.
- 4:04And then our last question is what are you most excited about right now and what
- 4:08makes you nervous?
- 4:10I think they're kind of the same thing,
- 4:12is what I'm most excited about is getting good check up into the hands of
- 4:18dentists and the feedback that we're going to receive
- 4:23is something that not,
- 4:25not that it makes me nervous and that did I think it out right? Because a,
- 4:29a lot of this,
- 4:30I know it really was my vision as a dental practitioner and
- 4:34also as a parent.
- 4:36This is our version right now as pediatric on the app store,
- 4:40in the play store.
- 4:41And what I'm excited slash nervous about is seeing what
- 4:46dentists will do with the tools that we give them.
- 4:49So to be able to give them the technology that will allow
- 4:54them to quickly onboard new patients,
- 4:58be able to triage new patients to be able to e-prescribe,
- 5:01but also to get paid for their time,
- 5:04for their valuable advice and care that they provide in a way
- 5:09that can expand their reach through social media and through
- 5:13word of mouth. I, I'm excited about it. I'm excited to see, and also,
- 5:18uh,
- 5:19just nervous to make sure that really I'm able to put all of the
- 5:23features that are desired and excited to hear what new features
- 5:28might be desired with this tool to be able to
- 5:33empower dentists.
- 5:36Definitely. I think, I know I like with anticipation,
- 5:41excitement and nervous go hand in hand,
- 5:43so I totally understand how that's both exciting but nerve wracking.
- 5:47Yes, yes. So I'm,
- 5:50I'm very interested in having a dentist's beta
- 5:54test. We're offering a free three month trial that includes our
- 5:59e-prescribe and again,
- 6:02having your office in your hand means you can have a tele dentistry visit
- 6:06where you onboard a new patient, you're not caught off guard.
- 6:10You'll be able to, uh,
- 6:13indicate what your desired consultation fee is.
- 6:17You will be also able to customize how much time you spend with a patient.
- 6:22You are able to, um, offer your schedule as you wish.
- 6:27And after your visit is completed,
- 6:30you've had a virtual visit that's video and chat.
- 6:33You can send an e-prescription immediately dictate your
- 6:38notes and uh, send that information to another,
- 6:43uh, dentist if you so wish or to your office staff to be able to schedule that
- 6:47patient accordingly.
- 6:49That sounds great. So Marilyn, it was a pleasure speaking with you today.
- 6:53I really enjoyed it and I look forward to connecting with you again soon.
- 6:57Thank you so much, Andy. Again, I,
- 6:59I appreciate the opportunity and I look forward to our next conversation.
- 7:04Definitely.
