- 0:48[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to Daily Influence.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_02]: Today I'm excited to introduce Parker Wilcox, founder of Lifeguard Protection.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_02]: Parker runs a health and life insurance agency built on trust, relationships, and a true belief in helping others grow first.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_02]: His approach reflects what we talk about throughout the I&T series books, positive responsible influence, rooted in service, collaboration, and integrity.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_02]: Parker, welcome to Daily Influence.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for having me, Greg, appreciate it.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_02]: Parker, let's start by grounding our listeners in your story.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_02]: Could you share a bit about your background in what led you to where you are today?
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: It was 2020 and the world, you know, ended basically.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I was
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: looking for a new industry, looking the company I was with at the time was a marketing company.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like a lot of companies during COVID had a large amount of layoffs and they had to make cuts and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: And so I went to work for an insurance agency that the specifies and in P and C property and casualty.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: So that's home and auto insurance.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: got license and started to sell home and auto insurance.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I learned a ton about the insurance industry was super, the financial services in general are very interesting to me.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: But with some time in that agency, I realized property and casualty home auto and commercial,
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: business insurance wasn't necessarily the niche I wanted.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: And so I left to start my own agency.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: And that was for health and life insurance specifically.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: So different license, different, you know, different processes, but same financial services and I got into and insurance that way with my agency.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for sharing that.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: You know, one of the things we emphasize in the IN team is how individual actions can have a ripple effect.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_02]: Can you tell us about a moment or experience where you've felt you made a positive impact on someone's life and how that moment influenced the way you show up today?
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: I have a lot of friends in these, you know, these other services and these financial services.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: I try to
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: keep my niche as specific as possible.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: And my niche right now with health insurance, is blue collar trades, general contractor, service-based businesses, people that work with their hands.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: And this is industry agnostic, so anyone can use these principles, whether you're insurance or not.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: But one thing I do is after my busy season, which is open enrollment,
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: So, after midway through January, I go through all these new clients, these new, new people that I have their insurance for and I ask some questions, I say, hey, I help you with your health insurance.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: But there's a lot of other aspects that you need help with.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: You need help with maybe your estate planning, maybe your home insurance, your car insurance, your life insurance, maybe you need help with your financial planning.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: And other things, and so I asked one client, her name is Gala, and I asked her, hey, how can I help you with, you know, she was a new move to Utah, she had recently moved there, and so I asked, you know, how's your home?
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: Do you need any help with your home?
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: I know a lot of people in blue college rates, and she said, actually that's perfect.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: I need a lot of help with, I'm knocking on a wall, I'm doing some different changes to my home.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: So I immediately contacted her with a contractor that I'm friends with, they were able to put together a really good bid and I basically bottom line is I really enjoyed being a sort of super connector and helping people connect to other industries or people that help them and not just my own services.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_02]: being a giver and helping others is central to how you do your business and you know, how has leading with service, putting clients and referral partners first, helped you build trust and create positive responsible influence in your business and community.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: It is so important to give first.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: I've been not currently involved but in the past involved with B&I, which is a networking referral kind of based networking group in company.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: And they have a really good mantra, which is it's the giver's gain.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: And if you give, you're gonna gain eventually.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: And that really is a super good and true principle
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: If I approach people with referrals in hand, with different connections in hand, I help contractors connect with general contractors, landscaping plumbers and electricians help with home builders or whatever, not kind of saying, just for any sample.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: People can see that, and they really, really appreciate being connected with and connected to others, rather than just me saying, hey, I'm great at health insurance.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: Can I have your clients or can I have you as a client?
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: Please, please, please, please, please, please.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: you know, and people really can tell if you're interested in being pushy or salesy, or if you're interested in actually building a relationship or friendship and connecting them.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I, in Team Series, we talk about growth not being a solo journey.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, how do you intentionally support other small businesses through your networking collaboration?
- 6:26[SPEAKER_02]: And how is that team oriented mindset contributed to your own growth?
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: I almost never ever lead with myself or why I'm, why I'm good at what I do.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: Just no one, no one, at least from the outset is interested at why you're the best at what you do, because everyone is going to say, I'm the best realtor on the best mortgage lender on the best, whatever, but that's not interesting.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: You have to lead with value, exchange, you have to lead with,
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: what you can give, what you can contribute.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, it's the, you know, the eye and team thing.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: I love that because, well, there's no eye and team.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: I guess that's the mantra, but yeah, I like to lead with, what can I offer you?
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: What do you need?
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: Where who can I introduce you to to help you grow your business?
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: And that, you know, when people say there's no I in team, we say the I in team is the individual lower case I the individual human and uppercase I the group of humans coming together to make that individual team, whatever that may be and, you know, growth comes from reflection and learning along the way, if you could go back and offer advice to your younger self, what would you share and how might that insight help others who are early in their journey today.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever, I would say whatever marketing, you know, tool I'm trying to use, what be the social media ads or asking business owners out to lunch or whatever, it would be that it would be lead with the value, lead with the giving, because people are gonna appreciate that and remember that so much.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's a little bit like, and everyone kind of knows this, everyone talks about this.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's a little bit like, you know, when you receive a hand,
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: from a client or from a business owner or from, you know, people say that all the time, you've got to leave handwritten notes, leave handwritten notes or mail them out or whatever.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone talks about it, nobody does it.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: But when you actually receive one, you go, wow, and you remember, it's the small things, right?
- 8:33[SPEAKER_01]: And so I, yeah, I would say to my younger self, forget,
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: trying to preach at why you're getting what you do, no one cares on why you're getting what you do, you have to lead with giving, you have to lead with value and helping people first rather than just say, and the best why you do business with me.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_02]: Insurance is an industry built on trust and long-term relationships.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_02]: How do you ensure that your influence remains ethical responsible and
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: I love that question because it is something I'm trying to focus on and something that I do focus on.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: I have no interest in short-term wins, short-term one-time commissions.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: The way I get paid is actually on a monthly residual basis, and so it's within my interest to also have clients.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: that like where they're at with their insurance, they have to enjoy it, they have to think it's a good fit for them.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: And if it's not a good fit for them, it's within my interest to switch them to something.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: Or even to drop them and help them get insurance with maybe a new job or whatever it is.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm interested in the long term gains.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm never into, it doesn't help me,
- 9:58[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for sharing the Parker.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: As we begin to wrap up, I want to bring this back to our listeners.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_02]: What message or words of encouragement?
- 10:05[SPEAKER_02]: Would you like to share with those who aspire to make a positive difference, whether in business, leadership or everyday life?
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I have a very specific piece of advice and it's actually a book recommendation.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: There's a book by this guy named James, I believe it's James Allen, is written, I think in like the 1800s, it's called As a Man Thinketh.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a specific chapter, chapter two, and the whole book is how you really are in charge of your destinance, and as a man thinketh, so he is basically.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: And chapter two talks on the effect of
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: And circumstance can be a, you know, it can be random from one man to another, but you have, you can't directly influence your circumstances, but you can directly influence your thoughts and your thoughts will eventually.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: have an effect on your circumstances.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like a, you know, like a garden.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: If you're, if you're effectively planting seeds that are geared towards good outcomes and good circumstances, eventually your garden will bloom.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you know, this isn't groundbreaking stuff is stuff we already know, but truly that would be my advice.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: Read the book.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great book.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's a really, really short book.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: And it reads very quickly, but it's full of trueisms, furl, you know, a really good stuff to kind of let us know that we really are in charge of our lives.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a small daily consistency on outreach.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, if you're trying to grow your business,
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know, whatever it is, cold calls marketing will small little baby steps and you will be shocked how fast you will accelerate your growth and your scaling and your, you know, your business or the circumstances in your life.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_02]: That's great.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for sharing that Parker and the examples that you said, you know, through service and collaboration and responsible influence, your stories are great reminder that while we focus on helping other succeed growth follows and a meaningful way, if our listeners want to get in touch with you, what is the best way to do so.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: I would say reach out on social media.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: You can find me at lifeguard.protection on Instagram.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: From there, you can find contact information and send me messages and questions.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: I am more than happy.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: It actually way more interested in answering questions and giving education first, finding if you're a good fit and I can help people out that way.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: And then if you're not a good fit, point in the right direction.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_02]: Great.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Parker, thank you for sharing that.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_02]: We'll put that information in the show notes.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_02]: And thank you for joining us today and sharing your stories and advice.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: Great, I really appreciate it.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much.

- 13:06[SPEAKER_02]: I hope today's conversation brought you insight and inspiration.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_02]: If it's spoke to you, share it with someone who could use a little positivity today.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_02]: Remember, small actions create big impact.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_02]: Keep showing up, leading, and growing one day at a time.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_02]: Until next time, stay inspired and keep having a positive responsible influence.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_02]: Bye-bye.
