- 0:19Speaker 1: Hey, welcome back to Music's Lost History, the Artist Edition.
- 0:22Speaker 1: This is a new generation country star. In fact, one
- 0:25Speaker 1: music critic clearly states, is this artist moving too incredibly fast?
- 0:29Speaker 1: One minute she's jamming out in a small southern town,
- 0:32Speaker 1: and then it feels like an overnight sensation was given birth. Well,
- 0:36Speaker 1: this is far, far, far away from an instant walk
- 0:39Speaker 1: with fame. Exposed to country music at a very early age,
- 0:44Speaker 1: her kinfolk said, hey, look, you got to do rock,
- 0:47Speaker 1: folk and alternative music. And so that's exactly what she
- 0:50Speaker 1: did during those early days in small clubs and public events.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Things really got serious when her grandfather decided, I'm going
- 0:59Speaker 1: to plant this guitar in your arms. And right then
- 1:02Speaker 1: and there, a songwriter's dream began. By 2019, she was
- 1:07Speaker 1: in Nashville, Tennessee, doing what three quarters of the residents
- 1:11Speaker 1: are doing, trying to land that recording deal or a
- 1:16Speaker 1: songwriting deal. Coming up next, when you moved to Nashville,
- 1:36Speaker 1: music success doesn't always show up, but when she landed,
- 1:41Speaker 1: suddenly records were being broken. Darryl Collins is back. Hey,
- 2:08Speaker 1: thanks for coming back to Music's Lost History, the Artist Edition.
- 2:12Speaker 1: When you move to Nashville, music success doesn't automatically show
- 2:17Speaker 1: up at your front door. This songwriter spent night and
- 2:20Speaker 1: day grinding with the world of writing circles while saying
- 2:25Speaker 1: yes to anybody who would just crank up her sounds.
- 2:28Speaker 1: It was TikTok in 2021 that brought her to a
- 2:32Speaker 1: global connection. That song's success put a pin in her
- 2:36Speaker 1: hand to sign a recording deal with Sony Music. And
- 2:39Speaker 1: then here it came, that EP, Excuse the Mess. Guess what?
- 2:44Speaker 1: It led her to the Grand Ole Opry. Sure, she's
- 2:48Speaker 1: been doing tunes like Hungover and You Look Like You
- 2:51Speaker 1: Love Me, but it was in 2026, seven years after
- 2:55Speaker 1: moving to Nashville, that she became the only woman to
- 2:59Speaker 1: reach the number one spot on Billboard's Hot 100 list
- 3:02Speaker 1: and the country airplay. Plus, that connection with Miranda Lambert
- 3:06Speaker 1: has helped things out in a huge way. She's earned
- 3:10Speaker 1: nine Grammy nominations. Why? Well, because Ella Langley has brought
- 3:17Speaker 1: grit to mainstream country music. The artist we're talking about
- 3:24Speaker 1: is Ella Langley. I'm Errol, and that's Music's Lost History.
