- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: As much as I wanted to hit VP, it shouldn't have happened the moment before it happened.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: It should not have.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, there were things that had to go through their frustrations.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: There was some popping off I had to do that had I been in the leadership position.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: They probably would have been fucked.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's not crazy.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: Back to the point, I had to go through some of those challenges where the spotlight wasn't as big to prove me for
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when the eyes are on me, and again, I don't suggest that the platform is as large as it's going to be.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: I did not say it's not large.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's big.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's big.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's big.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: Big big.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: I like that.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: A platform.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: But, if it happened any other way, it might not have been stated, might have went to my, I doubt it, but I don't know, maybe, I don't know.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that they're going to my head and maybe I'll start over thinking, but it's
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: being receiving the big reward after the habit of the staffers.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's a kind of billet.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: If you get rewarded before the habit of the established that that becomes a burden to try to figure out, nail the barometer or the bar is high.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: and your performance in the next eight.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: So that that gap doesn't work in your favor and that becomes a very stressful place to be in and trying to perform the something that you have no business performing to.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: No clue about it.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: And we live.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to the Disney show where we have meaningful conversations to help young men and boys know today What we wish we knew then.

- 2:18[SPEAKER_02]: We're starting to get there.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_02]: Trends like California and Florida they're here now.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_02]: So we we're getting Florida weather and California smart.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'll tell you notice that Houston need to take all the day with the back.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I want there the 24 hours.

- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: I can't live up there get too cold and too hot.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: What's that?
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: And troubles me.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, he smokes this.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_02]: No, that's the next.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_02]: You.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_02]: We don't jump right in this old thing today, man.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_02]: Like, share and subscribe.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: That way.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: Also, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: I should know this by now, because I should know.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: Love Kisa J Studios is where her books are.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: House of L. K. J. is where the product, the home products and the jewelry and all that stuff is.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: That's all for the sake of what you were just doing.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: House of L. K. J.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: If you're listening to this, it's in the show notes.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: If you're watching it just flash across the screen and provided that I quarter into edit.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if not mine, you've been this is down below.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's down below.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: Not she
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: She, something's happening with her, man.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: She got a spark where she'd be all nighters with it.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she'd be all nighters with it.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: And the lab, she, uh, I think the the latest thing that she's doing is the odoring.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's a good morning.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's a good listen.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: This, this, this aluminum.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, all of that free.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: I, I think aluminum is a pair of business.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: Other things, I'm like, I know aluminum free is a, is a deal.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but hers is a, is a natural solution.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: And she, she,
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: She made drugs for a limit.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's all right, it's all right, it's all right.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: I guess the legal, don't, yeah, it's sponsored to, yeah.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: So, the skills of transfer.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: But she, she on her chemistry, I love it, the land.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_02]: Because I'm all good wide open because a lot of the naturals went to the big box.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_02]: And so now, you know what that mean?
- 4:32[SPEAKER_02]: They're changing the formula to fit what they have going on at the agenda.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, cross that bridge when we get there.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_02]: There.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, today,
- 4:41[SPEAKER_02]: I'd like to see how this hits you because, who knows what his goals?
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: Dear son, not all doors are created equal.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: Not all doors are created equal, is there?
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: Um, not all doors lead to something desirable?
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: Um, open the saying.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm taking a little more force to know this.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: Some dough is shouldn't be for us.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: Think about the locks on the doors.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know, some, some doors have very simple locks.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: Some have very complicated locks.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I met with.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I met so far.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: We see.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_02]: I spoke with a gentleman and he gave me an interesting perspective on something that happened in his life and it was, he worked and worked and worked and tried and tried to get this opportunity to take off in his favor.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_02]: It was an industry.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_02]: He was trying to get into the old field industry, but from a chemical plant standpoint.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_02]: And it never would take off form.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: He tried and talked and no, no, no, kept the nine kicking him out, kicking his application out.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_02]: So he saw working at this adjacent company that kind of provided services.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_02]: Well, in that adjacent company, still pursuing what he was trying to do, it opened up a whole another laying form.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_02]: And so now he's in show business, and it took off.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_02]: I think on the comedy side, he used to do a little music, but now he's on the comedy side a little bit.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: Not to put you on the spot, but can you walk?
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: He did he walk how it happened?
- 6:49[SPEAKER_02]: Because that's a, that's the departure left and then joking and playing on the job, being himself, being himself.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_02]: Gotcha.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_02]: Not trying to present a certain way for the job, and then more.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_02]: This other job was a little more laid back.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_02]: So he was able to joke and be himself.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_02]: And so many people fell in love with what he was doing.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_02]: They kept saying, man, you're funny.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_02]: You should pursue this.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_02]: You could be a comedian.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: And he said they said it so much it started to resonate with him.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: And now he's a more social media side than he does shows.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_02]: I saw him mentioned, however,
- 7:26[SPEAKER_02]: He said he attributes the success he's having now for that door being closed because he lives in South Louisiana and so down there the culture is if you can get on with one of the chemical plants or if you're a truck driver and you find a certain load or route or hauling sugarcane certain parts of the year as lucrative that's it like I made it this so that was his goal
- 7:56[SPEAKER_02]: have good standard of living, you know what I mean?
- 8:00[SPEAKER_02]: So now he says his lifestyle has exceeded what he possibly would have done thanks to that door being closed and so the message I pulled out of that was a lot of times we get so frustrated and aggravated that I'm trying this thing and it didn't just take
- 8:25[SPEAKER_02]: hindsight, if you keep doing what you're supposed to do, keep shipping away, working it.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_02]: Because again, that's not always the goal.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I tell my son, just get your feet moving.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_02]: That's not necessarily what you're supposed to do.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_02]: Go get something started.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_02]: And the doors will begin to create the path if you pay an attention.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: When I graduated college, I quit the job that I was working with, that I was working at.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think my last day was two days before graduation.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: In my mind, it was time to make a shift.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: It was the bad taste of my mouth.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: That was the story about me and my postwork in the same place and they laid him off.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: He had been there 23 years, told me to have a nice day and pretty much on the random.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: So I wanted out of that.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I started applying for jobs.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, I had some, some graduation money.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: So I was, I was cool.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: My bills weren't super crazy.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't married or, um, Keeshan, I were, well, getting serious, but we hadn't created any, any bills or a lifestyle together that I was concerned about.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: It only took about six weeks, but it seemed like forever.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: Application application application, and I get a call for this job at the shipyard at the time.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was Northagram shit building, but they built a carries in the self of the natives on the East Coast, one of the like, they might be the only ship building that does it now.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, they do a past Google or a grab and up north.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: But at that time, that was like the largest employer in the hand-throw area, if not one of the largest.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I get a call for this job.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: I go interview,
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: Everything's looking up.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: The, um, the recruit is calling me, giving me feedbacks, everything he knows looking good.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: Basically said more than she should say.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: My opinion.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: Ultimately, I didn't get that job and I was crushed.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm, like, spirit gone.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: Probably we can have later, I get a call from another department and the shipyard, which was the sourcing department, which is by the, which ultimately became my career.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: So I get a call for a position I did in the platform for whatever reason, maybe that person gave my resume to somebody else.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: I go for that interview.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: And...
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't certain about anything.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: I saw some people in there, you know, and the people I ultimately got the job, and they became on co-workers.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: But as crushes, I was about not getting that first job.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: The second job paid about 15 grand more, and put me on the path to where I ultimately got into senior leadership.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: Then the person that I probably would have been working for was still part of it.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: The first job was expediting, all part of supply chain.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: I ended up buying actually issuing contracts and purchase orders for the stuff.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: The expedites were so annoying, yeah.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: I would have never been successful.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I used to show up to work in the expedite.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: One of them would be standing at my desk because he took his job so serious.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: And that was the expectation.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: Right, right, right.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: God, no.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I've been out of there.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's what I'm going to work for me.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: But it put me on the path and even,
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: even the things that I did that I didn't care for in that path or before.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: Before I became a buyer to shipyard, I was a Pike Fitter at the shipyard, the manual labor.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: I went on from the Pike Fitting to do design work, designing spaces in the ships.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: I came back as a buyer buying Pike vows and fittings that I was actually
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: had handled both episodes with all men on the standard level of understanding and then that kind of led to me actually understanding um federal acquisition regulations was governed that industry and I had a great boss that I didn't appreciate then yeah because she was on me yeah this lady told me I need to the smile coach
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like how you last, but if you think my demeanor's strong now, I had no wins.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: No, she's like, she's like, you do good work in, but you're not going to get in the way because nobody want to, like, you off-putting.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's real.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: See literally a sign.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: Another gentleman, a young black gentleman is African guy.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: They had a demeanor, and his appearance was everything.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: And she was like, this is your mentor.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I didn't understand it.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I had to go back and think her later in life.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_02]: So the pros do, man.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'm, you know what I'm laughing.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_02]: They'd be like, wait.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're okay.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_02]: You don't know you.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_02]: You don't know you.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_02]: The first few five.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_02]: Good.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_02]: If you don't know you, hey, that's all you.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_02]: No, we're going to be go get the norm.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_02]: To pick it back on something, you see it.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_02]: The steps in the phases.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_02]: You started here.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_02]: You went to the next phase and the level of understanding that you're gaining in each phase.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_02]: it helped you in these later positions.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of times we get caught up in today.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_02]: And we're so focused on trying to get from where I am today to get where I'm going tomorrow that we're not absorbing the lesson or the experience of what we end right now.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: like a lot of things look real bad in the moment, but the things that you're exposed to because things aren't so great or so perfect.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_02]: Those are the tools that you're supposed to be dropping in your bag.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_02]: You're there for a reason.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's like a warehouse.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_02]: Different phases of life is like different sections of a warehouse.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_02]: If I entered the warehouse on the east and I exit on the west and all I did was walk through that warehouse.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's highly likely I'm probably going to get walked back to that warehouse again because what's going to happen is I'm going to face a challenge and it's going to need a tool that is stored in the warehouse.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_02]: But as I'm walking through the warehouse, if I'm looking at the shelves and I'm like,
- 14:45[SPEAKER_02]: and put that in my bag, man.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_02]: I said, that's a screwdriver, I've needed a screwdriver before.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I see everybody that's standing right here, they keep reaching news and
- 14:56[SPEAKER_02]: I'll give me one, I don't know what it's for, but however, if everybody else is using that and it seems useful, they're gonna get it and learn what I need that for.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_02]: If you take that approach as you're walking through the sections of the warehouse of life and you're picking and grabbing and bringing along lessons like, okay, stay there for a while.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_02]: And if you're there,
- 15:19[SPEAKER_02]: I got to make the best of this.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: So I might need to learn how to be a meal work station and put me a little cushion to stand on or something.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_02]: Because I'm a learn how to make this better and make this work for me.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: I'm here and now they move you to the next session and it's a little better than this, but it has its quirks.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_02]: By the time you work your way out of there, the things that you had to adapt to in a just to phase by phase,
- 15:45[SPEAKER_02]: Man, you're a weapon, you're dangerous because of the level of understanding of how things work.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_02]: Like you wouldn't, you'd be surprised how many people that are perhaps you graduate a particular degree or something like that and now.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_02]: Or even someone placed you there because of your affiliation.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: And guess what you're now have to do.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_02]: You're above 10 departments.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_02]: But you have to go to East Department and say, what does this mean?
- 16:15[SPEAKER_02]: Why are you all doing this?
- 16:19[SPEAKER_02]: Depending on how that person is made, they may feel empowered.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: Man, I get to show the supervisor what's going on.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_02]: Or offended.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_02]: I've been doing this for 30 years.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_02]: And I just put a guy over me to instruct me
- 16:38[SPEAKER_02]: about a thing that I've been doing for 30 years.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_02]: If I've been doing it for 30, and he's seeking information from me, should I not be in his position and he should be here so that he can seek from me and then do and learn.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_02]: I've done the things that entitles me or gives me the right, but that I don't necessarily wanna use the word entitlement because that's tricky.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_02]: So now I've done the things to prove perhaps.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_02]: Or maybe I didn't, because we talked about that.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_02]: There's some, are you going through the motions?
- 17:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's why I was gonna go there if you didn't get there.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: So even if it's not about ambition, it's so important to know and understand which actually don't, right?
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: And referencing that first ball of manager in my career, the career that sustained me,
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: Barbara Neville or Barbara Dixon.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: She went when it's her maiden name.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: Neville is her maiden name because she's actually related to Erin Neville.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: She's from Louisiana somewhere.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: God of God.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm wearing that.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: That's the South Louisiana.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I forgot exactly where she's from.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: But one thing that she did when she challenged me is, um,
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: So, in purchasing, government contract you had was called a war, like your authority to sign or commit funds to sign a purchase order.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a process of getting, you're tipping the information, they'll see your work, you'll get maybe 10,000 in escalation.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: Ultimately, in my career, I had unlimited.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_00]: But with her, I had to take some packages to her to approve.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: because of the authority issue.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: I went in there one time and I presented the package.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: And she called me back in there.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: And she said, why is this right?
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: Because that's the way I was showing the doers.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: She said, no, why is it right?
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: Though, I didn't have an answer.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: I never not had an answer since then.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: It ended in that field.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_00]: Never not had an answer.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: or an approach, right, that may have needed to be, you know, tell it a bit or adjust it a bit a bit, but it taught me the importance of actually understanding my function because in many organizations, your personality can outpace your expertise and you land in that situation like you're talking about.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: So for all of the
- 19:12[SPEAKER_00]: the disdain that I had along the way while I saw other people.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I felt like I wouldn't get an opportunity.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: My approach was always to understand the business.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: I get that I'm responsible for my piece of it, but this requirement is coming from here and it's coming from there.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: We get requirements from everybody.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's an opportunity to understand what everybody does.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, man, why, you know, I noticed that you send this
- 19:38[SPEAKER_00]: You know, with this is there's always a rush on this to like I often do you know that you're going to need this thing right man we we need it every year man, but we just it like none of us really really do this and they always just make it work like well we could do a lot like I started having those relationships so when I got to a place where I was in the seat of you at the head of an organization.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody could actually question.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: They can not like me in that position, but nobody that was really nothing to question like, okay, the mechanics of this thing he got, the relationship like he solved problems for us for the last 10 years.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to argue that in that's the point that
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I said, like, I know you're going to drop the fraud, you know, you do this or whatever you pushed or if you're taking orders like what what kind of software is this is powered like these times like get curious about the why of all of it versus focusing on day to day to day to day and expect in time and grade to get you promotions like one thing that I told people that actually worked for me, I was like the raises never the goal.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_00]: The deraise rarely changes like the annual increase like rarely changed like the fact that y'all are getting fours of fives And you got five percent instead of three percent like to me.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: That's not the win That's not the win for me right the win for me as you're lead it is win My position isn't question Well, my goal because these people got the they got to come up and this how I approach my you know my whole career is looking that my leader said What makes sense for you?
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I'm asking him or her like with like what is your next is your next step up out?
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's a step.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not trying to push you out, but Right, you could be better suited for something.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: How can I get you there?
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: How can I get you there?
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: All the things you just spoke on is an awakening.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_02]: There are the sometimes the last step that some people are missing is that awakening that you had.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: Not only did you have it, you started to share it with others to awaken them.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_02]: Had an incident pop off, not an incident.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_02]: That's drastic.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_02]: Or the boxing, my dad bought my son's a punching bag.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't want to hang it out my ceiling.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_02]: So I bought a rack, a stand for it.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_02]: my son home from college, I ran, put that together for your boy, come back the next day he got it all broken out, parts laid out and he says, hey, this is not the instruction manual for this.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: So what you mean, so I looked at it sure enough, wrong instruction manual, I said, all right, I was out of town actually.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: I said, hey, when I get in, I'm gonna check it, so I came in, I walk in there, it's late, he's in bed.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_02]: And then I look at the instruction manual.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_02]: I immediately see what the problem is.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_02]: So I Google on the internet pull up the actual instruction manual for what we have.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_02]: And I shot it torn.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't say a word.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_02]: The next morning, I called them down.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, man, come talk to me.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_02]: I saw it as a teaching moment.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_02]: In the past, I was speaking on what we spoke on the last episode
- 23:20[SPEAKER_02]: uh... we we've groomed our children to be a certain way so used if an issue pop off create a solution college even colleges and about learning said information so much as it's about learning to solve or find the answer to a situation
- 23:42[SPEAKER_02]: If you learn how to solve a problem, or learn how to get the results or the desired results, then no matter how the results or the desire for those different results change, you're equipped to come up with, say, a result.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_02]: But if I learn how to get to eight, if you're no longer seeking eight, you're now looking for 16,
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't learn that they didn't teach me how to solve for X.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_02]: They taught me how to solve for eight.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_02]: So now, I altered that with him and said, hey, go take a picture of the box and take a picture of the manual and come back and talk to me.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_02]: So he did and he came back and said, what am I looking for?
- 24:29[SPEAKER_02]: If you contact the manufacturer, the first thing they're gonna ask you is an identifier.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, but he'll find the identifiers.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_02]: So he looked at the box and said, the model number.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: So he looked at the manual and he laughed.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_02]: He said, yeah, this doesn't match.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_02]: I said, do you see what I did?
- 24:50[SPEAKER_02]: He was like, yeah, you want to know the internet.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_02]: Punching the model number and kicked out the manual.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_02]: I said, shouldn't have done that part, but just to show you,
- 24:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not so concerned about you putting this together as I am that an issue presented itself.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_02]: This is how you approach it.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_02]: This is how you self-serve.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_02]: Don't just go call the people.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like, hey, men are finna sending this back.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: You would have said this perfectly good working thing back because they sent you the wrong manual on instructions.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_02]: And now you're delay, but what you need, you have everything you need right here is just need a new set of instructions if you will.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_02]: And then you didn't have to reach out to them because it's readily available because you have a computer in your back pocket at all times.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_02]: All the time.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_02]: Like, let's catch in on that.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was a little frustrated the other day.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: Um, To have to pick my son up.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: So not really frustrated, but.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_00]: The way that the day went, we're eating being in, um, and can't, yeah, he couldn't take the car, right?
- 26:06[SPEAKER_00]: Cause I had to pick up a two.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: He has been a school that I had to pick up a two.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_00]: So it was, it was more about I got used to not taking him to school.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, now I'm back on it.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm back on it and it's raining.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, it probably wouldn't have been a good thing for him to be driving.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_00]: in this because the whole time coming home, he's paying the most attention to me that I've ever seen him in the car.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_00]: like my demeanor when I'm doing like with it like if it looks like what am I doing and he's like, how did you like it, you son, one thing if you if you drive it through water keep going through the water like if you can if your wheels are turning right keep going don't don't stop right if you can't get through don't try to get through but right first thing and if people were stopping against all the knowledge that and I was like man this is a this is a teachable moment for me to demonstrate.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like just basic life skills and I had to be like, I got to be mindful of with my mind goes in moments in front of them, right?
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: It was like saying, it wasn't necessarily a big deal, but just managing my frustrations when it could be teachable moments.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: Throw back to last episode of, and I'm working on it, people.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_00]: People in full record.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_00]: When people are brought into my house, I do say hello.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: I do.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_00]: I do.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: To me, there's a graduation process to my conversation.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm gonna get to that early.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna get to that early.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_02]: Lisa, you know, I'll lay it because you're there.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_02]: I just watch and read and I be like, ooh, it's been a go bad, but to your point about the weather, the sometimes about the door, the door closing, it could be several steps back and we don't realize what's going on in the moment.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_02]: So metaphorically speaking, the door closing was, hey,
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: You can't get the vehicle and be out on your own, but then it opened up.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_02]: There's other door of opportunity for the teacher moment.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_02]: Because if he got caught in the rain, you probably wouldn't be getting a phone call or something like, hey, whatever, God forbid, I only want to speak it.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_02]: But looking into mindset, shifting a bit with the doors,
- 28:50[SPEAKER_01]: financial door.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_02]: My son, my oldest boy that's home from college, he's actively seeking a job right now.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: Gotta get this bread.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_00]: Gotta get this bread.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I heard him say he was
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: First off, that's a lie.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's a lie.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: Secondly, teachable moment.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_02]: Sun, you're not broke.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_02]: Like, don't, don't, don't ever say that.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_02]: You may not have any money.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_02]: at your disposal right now.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_02]: You're not broken to your broken.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_02]: Broken to me means I'm broken.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_02]: The fight is out of me.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_02]: The win is knocked out of me.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_02]: I don't have any drive left.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_02]: I don't have determination.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not seeking to do anything different.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not trying to change what I'm doing.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not altering.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_02]: I have no motion.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's more than fun as a few.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_02]: There's the unfinished, I just sat on this stump and I'm just going to sit here and waste away.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_02]: That's broken.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_02]: You need to be rebuilt, repaired at that point because you're broken, you're not dead.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_02]: So you're fixable.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's fixable.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_02]: Don't ever, because this is a men's mental health month as well.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_02]: So I want to take that as an opportunity to kind of speak on that as well.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_02]: the way to the world is on our shoulders, that's fine or it's not fine, but it's absolutely okay if it's not fine.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's okay to sit down, take a breather, take a breath, talk, seat counseling, seek advice, pastor, brother, friend, sister, mom, aunt, niece, nephew.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_02]: We always feel like if I do talk, they have to have a title.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_02]: I know people that have drawn out conversations with their plants, pits, dogs, get it out.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_02]: Talk to yourself, talk, get it out.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes even saying it and releasing it into the atmosphere is more therapeutic than you would believe.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_02]: So because of that,
- 31:17[SPEAKER_02]: don't beat yourself up just because something didn't go your way.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_02]: This goes back to the title of the episode about closed doors.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes the biggest driver for us feeling down or being not saved up is a closed door.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_02]: The door closes and we're furious.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_02]: We're infuriated.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_02]: We feel defeated.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_02]: We feel like man, not another problem.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: I can't take another setback right now.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_02]: True, that could be true, but it's only as true as we allow it, though, and as easier said than done, because now it's true, because now I don't have this food on my table.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_02]: So yes, that's a tangible reality.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_02]: However, I'm here to do something about it, though.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_02]: Don't ever rob yourself of the opportunity or the blessing of, I'm here to do something about it.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_02]: Especially if you're healthy, you're breathing, you have your limbs, you have your right state of mind because that's a prevalent thing now about people losing their memories, their thoughts, their thought processes, they can't focus.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_02]: Just
- 32:25[SPEAKER_02]: Went shot pool with my dad and my baby brother last week and you know the situation I'm dealing with my dad.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_02]: I'm I'm transparent about it earlier stages of dementia And so we try to keep him active and doing things that stimulates my So we're shooting pool and I every single time it was his shot.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_02]: We had to tell him what balls he had like you're this you're this patience
- 32:52[SPEAKER_02]: exercise in patients, all of these things contribute to the state of your mental health.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_02]: Not being in patient, not being in a hurry or rush to do something or frustrated or I have a goal, it's a goal.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_02]: Be careful, put in hard, stop dates on goals.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_02]: That could be a parameter to check back in with yourself and the progress of your goal.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying having an open-ended goal and not hold yourself accountable to a standard, but don't throw the goal away because you missed a times now.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: Another thing is maybe be open to
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: the unexpected doors along the way.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like with the show, um, the show, the show has morphed into what it is and it'll continue to evolve.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_00]: So it was always intended to be some version of this, but it didn't necessarily work financially immediately.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's just nail starting to bear fruit.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_00]: But because I was committed to the excellence of it and that's subjective because, you know, I look back at things now and I'm better at some things.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but in the moment, some people felt that those things were great, right?
- 34:27[SPEAKER_00]: And doing what I now know as my purpose, open up doors to, hey, who should just
- 34:37[SPEAKER_00]: I do, and it, I honestly sailed over my hand for me.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_00]: I, for me, it was just a compliment.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_00]: Right, right, right, yeah, you had that guy, that's my work, man.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_00]: And it was like, well, do you do that?
- 34:51[SPEAKER_02]: As a matter of fact, I do, certainly.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: I certainly saw, so it created, it created other opportunities that provided income when my initial focus was for this to be everything.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_00]: Also, in shooting for other people, I got better at shooting for the show.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like it all worked together.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_00]: Now there's a catalog of, you know, saying this and that that, it created so many opportunities that weren't actually in focus that allow
- 35:27[SPEAKER_00]: release some of the pressure to allow me to actually focus on what I wanted to do.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_00]: Or what the original goal was.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not that it's where it needs to be now, but we see the activity.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, activity.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_00]: And guys, whoever you're going to pay to tell you,
- 35:45[SPEAKER_00]: to be consistent, that's the whole message.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_01]: I can't even try to step on nobody's.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_00]: No, by the way, I'm saying they're courses, you know what I'm saying?
- 35:55[SPEAKER_00]: But for 397, I'll teach you this.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_00]: And ultimately, they're going to tell you to be consistent.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, and consistency does a whole lot of things, but they get something to be inconsistent.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I know for some, it happens earlier, but
- 36:08[SPEAKER_00]: I just as in my corporate career as much as I wanted to hit VP now, it shouldn't have happened a moment before it happened.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_00]: It should not have like there were things that had to go through their frustrations.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_00]: There was some poppin off I had to do that had I been in the leadership position that probably would have had.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: I probably would have been fucked.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like it's not crazy people.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: People think everything happens the way they wanted to happen.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_00]: And when it doesn't, supply chain is a roll block.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: So meetings with executive start off with, supply chain dropped ball.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_00]: Never mind that you came up with a requirement that has a 12 week lead time.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: You needed it last week.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, you won't give me the requirement tomorrow.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_00]: You haven't even given it to me.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_00]: But you go like so, I fell into the trap of responding to people that had the liberty of saying stuff like that because the positions they were in, like these were people that were manager programs in La Bury and hate like,
- 37:17[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody's firing them for popping off of the mouth, right?
- 37:20[SPEAKER_00]: I can't just drop another person, right?
- 37:23[SPEAKER_00]: And then after this.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_00]: So I, back to the point, I had to go through some of those challenges where the spotlight wasn't as big to prove me for, you know, when the eyes are on me.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_00]: And again, I don't suggest that the platform is
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: as large as it's going to be.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_00]: I did not say it's not large.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's big.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_00]: Big platform, big big big big.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_00]: I like that platform, but if it happened in the other way, it might not, it might not have been the state.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_00]: It might have went to my, I doubt it, but I don't know, maybe, I don't know.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that it got into my head and maybe I started overthinking, but it's something to being receiving the big reward after the habit of established.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's a kind of billet.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_00]: If you get rewarded before the habit of established that that becomes a burden to try to figure out because now the barometer or the bar is high.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_00]: in your performance in the next day.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_00]: So that gap doesn't work in your favor, and that becomes a very stressful place to be here and trying to perform the something that you have no business performing to.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_02]: No clue about it at all.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_02]: I have no idea what it takes to obtain it, maintain it, progress it, move it forward, nothing.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_02]: And I've seen it all throughout overnight weight loss.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_02]: you be back.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_02]: It happens because the discipline and the consistency that it takes to achieve these outcomes were not learned or implemented.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_02]: Therefore, if I just give it to you, because you don't know what it takes to get it, you certainly perhaps don't know what it takes to maintain
- 39:20[SPEAKER_02]: they tell you all the time and a person that hits the lottery and you go from nothing to everything they return to nothing.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't realize.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't realize.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I don't know how to get there.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_02]: So what am I going to do with this?
- 39:35[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know the first thing about it.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_02]: Now if you invest in yourself and teach learn classes, what's so busy getting caught up on the
- 39:48[SPEAKER_02]: trying to compensate for not having it prior to now.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_02]: In there, another gem that you dropped was the openness to other doors opening while you're on this path.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes we can get so caught up in fight of flight that the fight mode, you're swatting away actual blessings.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_02]: Opportunity comes, but because I've been burned by so many others, by the time that true opportunity comes, I'm not even evaluating it anymore.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_02]: You can apply that in the market.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_02]: You'll watch something watch something study, do your due diligence and then make a move, investment market, and it works out or doesn't, and then it doesn't.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_02]: And now you're questioning yourself, and it's not you at all.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_02]: Keep doing what you're supposed to be doing and what you know to do and focus and pay attention.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_02]: and just be consistent.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing's gonna be a hundred percent, but if you had least to create it my brother, Wallace, that good boy Wallace Fisher would should be coming up.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_02]: I gotta talk to you about that.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_02]: But 80, 6% or better, you can't beat that.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_02]: Consistency is key.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_02]: Here, 86% success rate is mind blowing.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_02]: But obtainable.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_00]: Think of the other thing to be careful of, especially with uh, with our younger dogs.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_00]: It, well, our children period is, is, uh, the weight loss thing struck an error with me, because on my weight loss journey, yeah, by the time people notice you're so already into the habit of it, that it's not that it doesn't matter that they said it, but it's
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: But you know the work, the work doesn't necessarily always show publicly with us, also.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_00]: So I was going with it is that some one of the challenges of social media is that it kind of promotes early or M, M proper celebration of a thing.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_00]: Agreed, because you presented a certain way.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: presenting a certain way, got you a response.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_00]: But presenting a certain way isn't actually leading you through any door of success.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_00]: What's the ultimate place that you want to be?
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: This.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: So again, giving things their due time,
- 42:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a very valuable lesson in all phases.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_00]: I can't think of a phase in life where I wanted something faster.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't come fast.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then after I got it, I still wish that I got it faster.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_00]: Agreed like on the deep level don't understand enough.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah on the deep level like if you Found how that all is today and you need a quote.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not talking about no luck or happiness dance When it turns of actually Being the most prepared you can be for a thing that requires that level of preparation.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_00]: I've never
- 43:14[SPEAKER_00]: frustrated before sure.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but once you get to high, it's like, man, I, you know, I, I, I shouldn't have had that, the humility to be able to tell yourself.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_02]: because recognize it, but, but acknowledge it, yeah, man, I would have missed this.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, oh, yeah, if I would have got this when I first wanted it, yeah, there's that listen, there's there, there's investments I wanted to take advantage of, but I couldn't get my hands on the capital quicker enough, missed it, crashed out.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_02]: didn't work out or when the capital presented a much better opportunity was on the table that if I jumped on the first opportunity, I wouldn't have been able to grab or take advantage of this opportunity.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_02]: The same is true what you were saying about celebration too soon and in
- 44:16[SPEAKER_00]: Man, that the podcast that the podcast and took off.
