- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Training Camp Cast.
- 0:07Speaker 2: The Patriots Training Camp Cast is your source for all
- 0:09Speaker 2: the news from Patriots training Camp.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Oh, I do still watch the news. Practice is over,
- 0:14Speaker 1: but the writers of Patriots dot com have you covered?
- 0:17Speaker 1: What did I miss yesterday? Now here to review.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Today's practice the writers of Patriots dot com.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Yes Day one is in the books, Miked so and
- 0:25Speaker 3: Paul Perillo.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Here high above.
- 0:28Speaker 3: The fields behind Jillette Stadium and a beautiful Wednesday after
- 0:33Speaker 3: Wednesday morning, I should say here in Foxborough, Patriots in
- 0:37Speaker 3: shorts and helmets, Mike, some really good signs early on
- 0:41Speaker 3: in terms of attendance, and I know that sounds routine,
- 0:44Speaker 3: but uh not a lot of guys missing here, just
- 0:48Speaker 3: two players I believe on on PUP with Cody Davis
- 0:51Speaker 3: and Michael Owenu.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Otherwise, we at least saw, if I'm not mistake, Calvin
- 0:56Speaker 1: Anderson too.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Is Calvin Anderson on NFI also that you are correct,
- 1:00Speaker 3: But we saw guys that we haven't really seen at all,
- 1:03Speaker 3: including like Juju Smith Schuster as an example, Trent Brown
- 1:07Speaker 3: out there taking part regular.
- 1:09Speaker 1: In his spot at left tackle.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Just let's open up our first training camp podcast of
- 1:15Speaker 3: the season.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Mike with your opening thoughts.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yeah, Lawrence guy as well, back out of course, great
- 1:20Speaker 2: to be out here. The stands are packed. It's a
- 1:23Speaker 2: beautiful day. As you know, Foxborough means means friendship. But
- 1:29Speaker 2: but a good start, you know, I think you know
- 1:31Speaker 2: overall did of course is there want to do red
- 1:34Speaker 2: zone drills and I think there were three different sets
- 1:37Speaker 2: of you know, three reps for all the quarterbacks. So
- 1:39Speaker 2: you know, a couple of touchdowns to Hunter Henry was
- 1:42Speaker 2: nice time. Montgomery really active, four touchdowns total. We talked
- 1:46Speaker 2: about him early in our live show Paul as as
- 1:49Speaker 2: a player who's just always been extremely involved when we
- 1:51Speaker 2: see practice. That was again the case today. But also
- 1:54Speaker 2: some nice plays by by the defense. Kyle dugger coming
- 1:57Speaker 2: up with an interception there in the in the end
- 1:58Speaker 2: zone was nice.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, and I think that you saw some
- 2:01Speaker 3: plays on both sides of the ball. I thought the
- 2:03Speaker 3: defense was a little better, but they should be based
- 2:05Speaker 3: on where the plays were taking places, really deep in
- 2:08Speaker 3: the red zone four yard line, eight yard line and
- 2:11Speaker 3: in no real threat of the run.
- 2:13Speaker 1: You made reference to Kyle Duggar's.
- 2:15Speaker 3: First play the first live rep quote unquote live they're
- 2:19Speaker 3: not in pads. But the first eleven on eleven rep
- 2:22Speaker 3: he undercut. I think Mikeasicki made a nice interception. But
- 2:26Speaker 3: time Montgomery, as you said, was very active. Several touchdowns
- 2:30Speaker 3: from all the different quarterbacks too. I think he caught
- 2:32Speaker 3: one from each of the three quarterbacks. I thought mac
- 2:35Speaker 3: Jones looked better. You know, as the plays sort of developed,
- 2:38Speaker 3: they would go three and then Zappi would take three,
- 2:41Speaker 3: mix Suld they would take three.
- 2:42Speaker 1: They did another set, they did the same kind of thing.
- 2:45Speaker 3: So that was probably the highlight of the day in
- 2:47Speaker 3: terms of what we got to watch Otherwise, sort of
- 2:49Speaker 3: a lot of walkthroughs, conditioning kind of stuff, a lot
- 2:54Speaker 3: of drills. But I think, like I said, the main
- 2:57Speaker 3: takeaway for me was just you know, we're looking out
- 3:00Speaker 3: here at eighty seven players that we got a chance
- 3:03Speaker 3: to see one guy we should probably note that didn't
- 3:05Speaker 3: look like he did a whole lot today. Was Matthew Judah.
- 3:08Speaker 3: You think you saw him a little bit on the Yeah,
- 3:11Speaker 3: looks like.
- 3:11Speaker 2: He was doing some some either conditioning rehab, but now
- 3:14Speaker 2: it was not participating when they when they did do
- 3:16Speaker 2: the team drills. So some of the BEG watched for
- 3:19Speaker 2: but I mean, he's out here, and obviously it's a
- 3:20Speaker 2: long training camp, so I don't think it's anything to
- 3:23Speaker 2: be too concerned with. I mean, we didn't really see
- 3:25Speaker 2: Trump Brown or OTAs and he was back out there
- 3:27Speaker 2: at the left tackle spot today. So that's like you said, Paul,
- 3:30Speaker 2: I think that the good thing is, look, we got started.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Are we going to overreact to how good or bad
- 3:35Speaker 2: the offensive defense is after you know, one practice with
- 3:37Speaker 2: you know, maybe a handful of maybe nine to ten
- 3:39Speaker 2: reps of you know, quasi competitive stuff. No, but you know,
- 3:43Speaker 2: I think that there are certainly some positive elements. And
- 3:46Speaker 2: as we said, what's better than getting out here having
- 3:48Speaker 2: the full team participate, you know, having all those bodies
- 3:51Speaker 2: just to start, it's it's a good sign, not something
- 3:54Speaker 2: hey we're waiting to see.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Let's get guys back.
- 3:56Speaker 2: He can start getting everybody on the same page immediately.
- 3:59Speaker 2: So you know, for me, I was just excited to
- 4:00Speaker 2: see Juju Smith Schuster out here, to see him how
- 4:03Speaker 2: they're working him in, Mikeasicki the two big main new
- 4:06Speaker 2: pieces on offense for Bill O'Brien to play with a
- 4:09Speaker 2: little bit.
- 4:09Speaker 1: So starting to get a glimpse of what's coming. Together there.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I would agree with you. And he came as advertised.
- 4:14Speaker 3: You know, he's an energy guy. He and a very
- 4:17Speaker 3: similar personality, it looked like to Kendrick Bourne. Those guys
- 4:20Speaker 3: were bouncing around all day. I think there was some
- 4:23Speaker 3: enthusiasm on the part of the players to be out here.
- 4:26Speaker 3: We talked during our show during the broadcast about how
- 4:29Speaker 3: a couple of players have been tweeting out last night
- 4:32Speaker 3: and this morning, but you know, just sort of eager
- 4:34Speaker 3: to get going.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I think we saw that. I think it was a
- 4:36Speaker 1: good start.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Didn't look at anybody like, you know, suffered any kind
- 4:40Speaker 3: of injuries or anything like that. Those are always a concern,
- 4:43Speaker 3: especially at this time of year. And I think the
- 4:46Speaker 3: first signs of you know, the we got a chance
- 4:48Speaker 3: to watch Bill O'Brien sort of set up the offense
- 4:51Speaker 3: a little bit and you know, we're not trying to
- 4:53Speaker 3: come off as like we know all these things that
- 4:55Speaker 3: they're doing, but it looked like there was more of
- 4:57Speaker 3: a design. I know Evan talked about it a little
- 4:59Speaker 3: bit during the podcast of the sequence of the things
- 5:02Speaker 3: that they're sort of working on are definitely designed to
- 5:06Speaker 3: progress to other things. So those are the things we'll
- 5:09Speaker 3: be keeping an eye on as camp unfolds.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a good sign.
- 5:11Speaker 2: I mean, it's a it look its gonna be a
- 5:13Speaker 2: lot of fun as we start to get in the
- 5:14Speaker 2: competitive stuff. But like you said, they're laying the foundation here,
- 5:17Speaker 2: and I mean football is back, or practice football is back,
- 5:20Speaker 2: I know, every you know, it's like there's football games
- 5:22Speaker 2: and then practices and then real games. So there's a
- 5:24Speaker 2: lot going on, but just good to get started and
- 5:27Speaker 2: you know, I think they're laying some positive work here
- 5:29Speaker 2: and we'll see what they progressed to tomorrow.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Yeah, they were at it for about ninety minutes or so.
- 5:33Speaker 3: They finished with some conditioning runs you know, off the
- 5:37Speaker 3: goal line, some some suicide, some back and forth runs.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Now they look like they're just sort of recapping the
- 5:44Speaker 3: practice with some really low tempo walkthrough. Kind of looks
- 5:48Speaker 3: again still in the red zone. As we're now really
- 5:51Speaker 3: accustomed to a couple of things, you know, just notable
- 5:54Speaker 3: things that they did.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Some work on the punt punt team both fields.
- 5:58Speaker 3: I looked like Marcus Jones to Mario Douglas and Miles
- 6:01Speaker 3: Bryant were handling some of those punts and really beyond that,
- 6:06Speaker 3: it wasn't a tremendous amount to.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Chronicle here and say, hey, let's give Nick focus shot. Yeah,
- 6:11Speaker 1: Nick Folk wrapped up practice with a bunch of field.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Goals ranging from twenty eight to forty eight yards, and
- 6:16Speaker 3: I think he made them all.
- 6:17Speaker 2: He looks the same old Nick Folk, just the model
- 6:20Speaker 2: of consistency. We'll see when Chad Ryland gets into the
- 6:23Speaker 2: mix and gets his chance and see if you can
- 6:24Speaker 2: match it.
- 6:25Speaker 3: All right, So that's going to put a rap on
- 6:27Speaker 3: our first training camp podcast of the season. We'll be
- 6:29Speaker 3: back every day after practice. Mike or So and Paul
- 6:33Speaker 3: Perola will be here to give you our thoughts on
- 6:36Speaker 3: each day. So we'll talk to you tomorrow
