- 0:01Speaker 1: Gospel Reflection for the 20th day of October in the
- 0:03Speaker 1: year of our Lord, 2026. Today's reading is from Luke
- 0:08Speaker 1: chapter 12, verses 35 through 38. Let your loins be
- 0:13Speaker 1: girt and lamps burning in your hands. And you yourselves,
- 0:18Speaker 1: like to men who wait for their Lord, when he
- 0:20Speaker 1: shall return from the wedding, that when he cometh and knocketh,
- 0:24Speaker 1: they may open to him immediately. Blessed are those servants
- 0:28Speaker 1: whom It should go without saying that none of us
- 0:31Speaker 1: knows when death's going to come. But most of us
- 0:32Speaker 1: don't live that way. Human nature is such that we
- 0:54Speaker 1: live in anticipation of living another day, assuming it will
- 0:57Speaker 1: be much like the one before. If we're wise, we
- 1:00Speaker 1: work and we save for a time when we may
- 1:03Speaker 1: not be able. Many, however, are not so wise, simply
- 1:07Speaker 1: living for the day. Beyond our future material needs, the
- 1:11Speaker 1: Bible constantly urges that we should pray and fast, do
- 1:17Speaker 1: charitable works, and avoid sin. that we may be spiritually
- 1:23Speaker 1: prepared for the time of our death. We will be
- 1:27Speaker 1: judged by our works and our faith. Yes, we will
- 1:30Speaker 1: be judged by our works and our faith. Protestants teach
- 1:33Speaker 1: that we're justified by faith alone and not our works,
- 1:36Speaker 1: and they often cite Romans 4, 22-25. Brothers and sisters,
- 1:41Speaker 1: Abraham did not doubt God's promise in unbelief. Rather, he
- 1:46Speaker 1: was empowered by faith and gave glory to God and
- 1:48Speaker 1: was fully convinced that what God had promised he was
- 1:51Speaker 1: able to do, also able to do. That is why
- 1:55Speaker 1: it was credited to him as righteousness, but it was
- 1:58Speaker 1: not for him alone that it was written, but it
- 2:01Speaker 1: was credited to him. It was also for us to
- 2:04Speaker 1: whom it will be credited, who believe in the one
- 2:07Speaker 1: who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was
- 2:11Speaker 1: handed over for our transgressions and was raised for our justification. Well,
- 2:17Speaker 1: while it's true that That belief and faith are inexorably linked.
- 2:22Speaker 1: It was Abraham's deed, his deeds, I should say, in
- 2:26Speaker 1: obeying God that were the fruits of his belief. That
- 2:30Speaker 1: was evidence of his faith. Without those deeds, his faith
- 2:35Speaker 1: would not be credited unto him as righteousness. He would
- 2:38Speaker 1: have been disobedient. You know, Jesus said, if you love me,
- 2:41Speaker 1: you will keep my commandments. Protestants say, no, I've got
- 2:45Speaker 1: faith alone. I'm justified. No, you actually have to keep
- 2:50Speaker 1: his commandments. And the book of James tells us that
- 2:56Speaker 1: faith without works is dead. And Martin Luther really hated
- 3:01Speaker 1: the book of James. He wanted it stripped from the
- 3:04Speaker 1: Bible in his own words. He said he wanted to
- 3:07Speaker 1: throw Jimmy into the fire. So, yeah, indeed, Martin Luther
- 3:14Speaker 1: boasted of changing the very words of Christ. to faith alone.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Jesus said, by faith and also by works. Martin Luther
- 3:21Speaker 1: changed it to by faith alone, and then said, if
- 3:25Speaker 1: your papist accuses me of changing the words of Christ,
- 3:29Speaker 1: and I'm not quoting this verbatim, you can look it up.
- 3:32Speaker 1: He said, the papist is an ass, and I'm the
- 3:35Speaker 1: greatest theologian ever. I mean, he said, you know, you
- 3:39Speaker 1: may tell him that Dr. Luther changed those words. He
- 3:44Speaker 1: admitted it fully. 99% of Protestants do not know that
- 3:48Speaker 1: their Bible has been changed, changed to fit a false doctrine.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Faith alone has never been a valid Christian doctrine. Justification
- 3:57Speaker 1: is a grace, okay? Grace is a gift that is
- 4:02Speaker 1: given out of benevolence. It's not earned, okay? So justification
- 4:09Speaker 1: is a gift given to those who have both faith
- 4:11Speaker 1: in Jesus and who are obedient to his commands. So
- 4:15Speaker 1: your Protestant will say, but that means you have to
- 4:17Speaker 1: have works. Yes, to be obedient, you do have to
- 4:23Speaker 1: do works of mercy and other works. Prayer is a work.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Our Lord commands us to love him and our neighbor
- 4:30Speaker 1: and to obey the church he founded. He said, if
- 4:32Speaker 1: a man will not listen to the church, let him
- 4:34Speaker 1: be unto you, as a publican or a heathen, if
- 4:38Speaker 1: I remember correctly. It depends on what translation you're quoting from.
- 4:43Speaker 1: He said, if you love me, you will keep my commandments. So,
- 4:47Speaker 1: I mean, prayer's a work, reading the Bible's a work,
- 4:50Speaker 1: attending Mass is a work, and we are commanded to
- 4:54Speaker 1: perform works of mercy. We are supposed to be charitable.
- 4:58Speaker 1: We are commanded to forgive. Forgiveness is a work. Belief
- 5:04Speaker 1: is a work. One does not just have faith without
- 5:09Speaker 1: making a commitment of the will. That commitment of the
- 5:12Speaker 1: will in itself is a work. So we are also
- 5:16Speaker 1: commanded by Jesus to take part in the sacraments that
- 5:20Speaker 1: he instituted. He said we have to be baptized to
- 5:23Speaker 1: be saved. Baptism is a work. He said you must
- 5:28Speaker 1: eat my body and drink my blood. Or you have
- 5:30Speaker 1: no life in you. forsake not the gathering of yourselves
- 5:34Speaker 1: together on the Sabbath day. These are all works. He
- 5:39Speaker 1: said to his apostles, those whose sins you forgive, they
- 5:42Speaker 1: are forgiven. Those whose sins you retain, they are retained.
- 5:46Speaker 1: It is both a work to confess your sins to
- 5:49Speaker 1: a priest, as Jesus commanded, and it is a work
- 5:53Speaker 1: for the priest to forgive your sins. He said what
- 5:55Speaker 1: is bound on earth will be bound in heaven, and
- 5:57Speaker 1: what is loosed on earth will be loosed in heaven
- 6:01Speaker 1: by God. the people to whom, the actual individuals, real
- 6:05Speaker 1: living men, to whom he gave that authority, the keys
- 6:08Speaker 1: of the kingdom. There is no Christianity that has any
- 6:13Speaker 1: validity to it whatsoever without works, which are obedience. And
- 6:20Speaker 1: where does obedience to God come from? It comes from
- 6:23Speaker 1: love of God. He said, if you love me, you
- 6:26Speaker 1: will keep my commandments. If we are not obedient, it's
- 6:28Speaker 1: because we don't love God more than we love sin
- 6:32Speaker 1: or our own pride. And the original pride, the original sin,
- 6:37Speaker 1: is that of the first Protestant, Satan. Satan said, I
- 6:41Speaker 1: would rather rule in hell than serve in heaven. And
- 6:45Speaker 1: he rebelled against God. Satan is the original Protestant. Satan
- 6:49Speaker 1: is the prototype of Martin Luther and King Henry VIII
- 6:52Speaker 1: and all that came after him. And no matter how
- 6:55Speaker 1: good and filled with faith a Protestant may be, They're
- 7:01Speaker 1: still disobeying the commandments of God who said, you have
- 7:05Speaker 1: to receive the Eucharist because you can't receive the Eucharist
- 7:09Speaker 1: in a Protestant church. Only a Catholic priest has the
- 7:13Speaker 1: ability to bind and loose and turn bread and wine
- 7:16Speaker 1: into the body and blood of Christ. I'm sorry, that's
- 7:20Speaker 1: just the way it is. Jesus never said, go out
- 7:25Speaker 1: and found 50,000 different denominations. And there are 50,000, according
- 7:29Speaker 1: to Grok, I just looked it up, or It may
- 7:31Speaker 1: have been the other one, the Google one. At current count,
- 7:36Speaker 1: there are more than 50,000 Protestant denominations, each of which
- 7:40Speaker 1: disagree with each other, and all of whom reject the
- 7:43Speaker 1: Catholic Church. Jesus said upon, he said to Peter, Peter,
- 7:49Speaker 1: your name's no longer Simon Barjona. Your name is Peter.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Or Cephas, actually, in his Aramaic that he actually spoke,
- 7:58Speaker 1: which was a much more clear language. It meant specifically,
- 8:02Speaker 1: you are the rock. And upon this rock, I found
- 8:05Speaker 1: my church. He never said, pick up a Bible and
- 8:08Speaker 1: go find your own church and change my words to
- 8:11Speaker 1: fit whatever false teaching you want to believe, which is
- 8:17Speaker 1: what Martin Luther said. And then at the end of
- 8:19Speaker 1: Martin Luther's life, he complained that people were just making
- 8:23Speaker 1: up churches as they went. He said, people were just...
- 8:27Speaker 1: making stuff up. And he was even disgusted with the
- 8:30Speaker 1: fruits of his own work. I don't know. Sources from
- 8:36Speaker 1: the time, well, he admitted to being, oh gosh, he
- 8:42Speaker 1: admitted to being a murderer. He admitted to being an alcoholic.
- 8:45Speaker 1: He admitted to being manic depressive. He admitted to openly
- 8:50Speaker 1: disobeying Jesus, who told him not to found his own church,
- 8:54Speaker 1: but to be obedient to the Catholic Church, he said
- 8:57Speaker 1: Jesus appeared to him and said, why do you seek
- 9:00Speaker 1: my keys? They remain with Peter. His tongue is my
- 9:04Speaker 1: key and his mouth is my key case. They will
- 9:07Speaker 1: not be given to you. Martin Luther said, basically, he
- 9:12Speaker 1: was influenced by Satan. He openly admitted that. Now, historians
- 9:17Speaker 1: at the time say he committed suicide. Now they say, well, no,
- 9:21Speaker 1: those were just Catholics who wanted to disparage the founder
- 9:25Speaker 1: of Protestantism. I have no idea. I do know he
- 9:29Speaker 1: accused Jesus of adultery. Yeah, he said Martin Luther, the
- 9:33Speaker 1: founder of Protestantism, accused Jesus of adultery and said that
- 9:37Speaker 1: he would trust his wife and his students more than God.
- 9:41Speaker 1: He would trust in the opinions of his wife and
- 9:44Speaker 1: his students more than the words of Christ. Not a
- 9:47Speaker 1: good man. Not a good man at all. Pray for
- 9:52Speaker 1: the repose of his soul, but he was an antichrist.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Just as much so as you know, the beast out
- 9:59Speaker 1: of the book of Revelations. So anyway, we are commanded
- 10:04Speaker 1: that we take part in the sacraments that our Lord
- 10:07Speaker 1: instituted and obey the priests that he put in that
- 10:11Speaker 1: role through apostolic succession. And to be charitable and pray
- 10:17Speaker 1: for people and pray for the unity of all Christians
- 10:19Speaker 1: without a doubt. Obedience is a work through which we
- 10:24Speaker 1: become righteous and receive the abundance of grace. Remember, the
- 10:30Speaker 1: angel said to Mary, Hail, full of grace. And how
- 10:33Speaker 1: did she respond? Let it be done unto me according
- 10:37Speaker 1: to your word. It was the obedience of Abraham. It
- 10:41Speaker 1: was the obedience of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Um, Christ
- 10:45Speaker 1: in his human form, obedient unto death, as the Bible says,
- 10:50Speaker 1: that is the source of our grace, our salvation, our redemption.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Without obedience, we are of the devil. We are not
- 11:02Speaker 1: of God. And to be obedient is to be Catholic. Remember,
- 11:07Speaker 1: Jesus prayed that all Christians be one, one in faith, doctrine,
- 11:12Speaker 1: all members of the same church. No divisions. The apostles
- 11:16Speaker 1: throughout the New Testament absolutely condemned every schism, every division,
- 11:23Speaker 1: every time, I mean, several times they said, people are
- 11:27Speaker 1: proposing a new church, a new belief. They are to
- 11:30Speaker 1: be rejected. If a man will not listen to the church,
- 11:34Speaker 1: let him be unto you as a heathen. A Protestant
- 11:37Speaker 1: will say, what church? The Catholic has to answer, the
- 11:41Speaker 1: church Jesus Christ founded and guaranteed against all error, and
- 11:47Speaker 1: said it would stand until he comes again on the
- 11:49Speaker 1: last day. The one church that has stood for 2,000
- 11:53Speaker 1: years plus, and will continue to stand until the end
- 11:56Speaker 1: of time. Y'all have a great one, and I will
- 12:00Speaker 1: talk to you tomorrow.
