- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter twenty eight. The investigative judgment I beheld, says the
- 0:06Speaker 1: prophet Daniel, till thrones were placed, and one that was
- 0:09Speaker 1: ancient of days did sit. His raiment was white as snow,
- 0:13Speaker 1: and the hair of his head like pure wool. His
- 0:15Speaker 1: throne was fiery flames, and the wheels thereof burning fire.
- 0:20Speaker 1: A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten
- 0:28Speaker 1: thousand stood before him. The judgment was set, and the
- 0:32Speaker 1: books were opened. Thus was presented to the prophet's vision,
- 0:37Speaker 1: the great and solemn day, when the characters and the
- 0:39Speaker 1: lives of men should pass in review before the judge
- 0:42Speaker 1: of all the earth, and to every man should be
- 0:45Speaker 1: rendered according to his works. The Ancient of days is God,
- 0:49Speaker 1: the Father, says the Psalmist. Before the mountains were brought forth,
- 0:55Speaker 1: or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world,
- 0:57Speaker 1: even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God. It is he,
- 1:03Speaker 1: the source of all being and the fountain of all law,
- 1:06Speaker 1: that is to preside in the judgment, and holy angels
- 1:11Speaker 1: as ministers and witnesses in number ten thousand times ten
- 1:14Speaker 1: thousand and thousands of thousands attend this great tribunal, and behold,
- 1:21Speaker 1: one like the Son of Man, came with the clouds
- 1:23Speaker 1: of heaven and came to the Ancient of Days, and
- 1:26Speaker 1: they brought him near before him, and there was given
- 1:29Speaker 1: him dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all people,
- 1:33Speaker 1: nations and languages should serve him. His dominion is an
- 1:37Speaker 1: everlasting dominion which shall not pass away. The coming of
- 1:41Speaker 1: Christ here described is not his second coming to the earth.
- 1:46Speaker 1: He comes to the Ancient of Days in heaven to
- 1:48Speaker 1: receive dominion and glory and a kingdom which will be
- 1:51Speaker 1: given him at the close of his work as a mediator.
- 1:55Speaker 1: It is this coming, and not his second advent to
- 1:58Speaker 1: the earth, that was foretold in prophet to take place
- 2:01Speaker 1: at the termination of the twenty three hundred days in
- 2:03Speaker 1: eighteen forty four, attended by heavenly angels, our Great High
- 2:08Speaker 1: Priest enters the Holy of Holies, and there appears in
- 2:11Speaker 1: the presence of God to engage in the last acts
- 2:14Speaker 1: of his ministration in behalf of man, to perform the
- 2:17Speaker 1: work of investigative judgment, and to make an atonement for
- 2:21Speaker 1: all who are shown to be entitled to its benefits.
- 2:25Speaker 1: In the typical service, only those who had come before
- 2:27Speaker 1: God with confession and repentance, and whose sins, through the
- 2:31Speaker 1: blood of the sin offering, were transferred to the sanctuary,
- 2:34Speaker 1: had a part in the service of the Day of Atonement.
- 2:38Speaker 1: So in the great Day of final Atonement and investigative judgment,
- 2:42Speaker 1: the only cases considered are those of the professed people
- 2:45Speaker 1: of God. The judgment of the wicked is a distinct
- 2:48Speaker 1: and separate work, and takes place at a later period.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Judgment must begin at the house of God. And if
- 2:55Speaker 1: at first begin at us, what shall the end be
- 2:57Speaker 1: of them that obey not the Gospel? The books of
- 3:01Speaker 1: record in Heaven, in which the names and the deeds
- 3:03Speaker 1: of men are registered, are to determine the decisions of
- 3:06Speaker 1: the judgment, says the prophet Daniel. The judgment was set
- 3:11Speaker 1: and the books were opened. The Revelator, describing the same scene,
- 3:16Speaker 1: adds another book was opened, which is the Book of Life,
- 3:19Speaker 1: and the dead were judged out of those things which
- 3:22Speaker 1: are written in the books, according to their works. The
- 3:25Speaker 1: Book of Life contains the names of all who have
- 3:28Speaker 1: ever entered the service of God. Jesus bade his disciples rejoice,
- 3:33Speaker 1: because your names are written in heaven. Paul speaks of
- 3:37Speaker 1: his faithful fellow workers whose names are in the Book
- 3:39Speaker 1: of Life. Daniel, looking down to a time of trouble
- 3:43Speaker 1: such as never was, declares that God's people shall be
- 3:46Speaker 1: delivered every one that shall be found written in the book,
- 3:50Speaker 1: and the revelator says that those only shall enter the
- 3:53Speaker 1: City of God whose names are written in the Lamb's
- 3:55Speaker 1: Book of Life. A book of remembrance is written before God,
- 4:00Speaker 1: in which are recorded the good deeds of them that
- 4:02Speaker 1: feared the Lord and that thought upon his name. Their
- 4:06Speaker 1: words of faith, their acts of love are registered in heaven.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Nehemiah refers to this when he says, remember me, o,
- 4:14Speaker 1: my God, and wipe not out my good deeds that
- 4:16Speaker 1: I have done for the house of my God. In
- 4:19Speaker 1: the Book of God's Remembrance, every deed of righteousness is
- 4:22Speaker 1: immortalized there, every temptation resisted, every evil overcome, every word
- 4:29Speaker 1: of tender pity expressed is faithfully chronicled, and every act
- 4:33Speaker 1: of sacrifice, every suffering and sorrow endured for Christ's sake
- 4:37Speaker 1: is recorded. Says the Psalmist, Thou tellest my wanderings, put
- 4:43Speaker 1: thou my tears into thy bottle. Are they not in
- 4:45Speaker 1: thy book? There is a record also of the sins
- 4:49Speaker 1: of men. For God shall bring every work into judgment,
- 4:52Speaker 1: with every secret thing, whether it be good or whether
- 4:55Speaker 1: it be evil, Every idle word that men shall speak,
- 4:59Speaker 1: they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment,
- 5:03Speaker 1: said the Savior. By thy words thou shalt be justified,
- 5:06Speaker 1: and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. The secret
- 5:10Speaker 1: purposes and motives appear in the unerring register. For God
- 5:14Speaker 1: will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and
- 5:17Speaker 1: will make manifest the counsels of the hearts. Behold, it
- 5:21Speaker 1: is written before me your iniquities and the iniquities of
- 5:24Speaker 1: your father's together saith the Lord. Every man's work passes
- 5:29Speaker 1: in review before God and is registered for faithfulness or unfaithfulness. Opposite.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Each name in the books of Heaven is entered with
- 5:37Speaker 1: terrible exactness, every wrong word, every selfish act, every unfulfilled duty,
- 5:43Speaker 1: and every secret sin, with every artful dissembling, heaven sent
- 5:48Speaker 1: warnings or reproofs, neglected wasted moments, unimproved opportunities, the influence
- 5:54Speaker 1: exerted for good or for evil, with its far reaching results,
- 5:57Speaker 1: all are chronicled by the recording Angel. The law of
- 6:01Speaker 1: God is the standard by which the characters and the
- 6:04Speaker 1: lives of men will be tested in the judgment, says
- 6:08Speaker 1: the wise man. Fear God and keep his commandments, for
- 6:11Speaker 1: this is the whole duty of man. For God shall
- 6:14Speaker 1: bring every work into judgment. The apostle James admonishes his brethren,
- 6:19Speaker 1: so speak ye, and so do as they that shall
- 6:22Speaker 1: be judged by the law of liberty. Those who, in
- 6:25Speaker 1: the judgment are accounted worthy will have a part in
- 6:28Speaker 1: the resurrection of the just. Jesus said, they which shall
- 6:33Speaker 1: be accounted worthy to obtain that world and the resurrection
- 6:36Speaker 1: from the dead, are equal unto the angels, and are
- 6:39Speaker 1: the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
- 6:43Speaker 1: And again he declares that they that have done good
- 6:46Speaker 1: shall come forth unto the resurrection of life. The righteous
- 6:50Speaker 1: dead will not be raised until after the judgment, at
- 6:52Speaker 1: which they are accounted worthy of the resurrection of life.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Hence they will not be present in person at the tribunal.
- 7:00Speaker 1: When their records are examined and their case is decided.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Jesus will appear as their advocate to plead in their
- 7:06Speaker 1: behalf before God. If any man sin, we have an
- 7:10Speaker 1: advocate with the Father Jesus Christ the Righteous. For Christ
- 7:14Speaker 1: is not entered into the holy places made with hands,
- 7:17Speaker 1: which are the figures of the True, but into Heaven itself,
- 7:21Speaker 1: now to appear in the presence of God for us.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Wherefore He is able also to save them to the
- 7:27Speaker 1: uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing he ever
- 7:30Speaker 1: liveth to make intercession for them. As the books of
- 7:34Speaker 1: record are opened in the Judgment, the lives of all
- 7:36Speaker 1: who have believed on Jesus come in review before God.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Beginning with those who first lived upon the earth. Our
- 7:43Speaker 1: advocate presents the cases of each successive generation and closes
- 7:47Speaker 1: with the living. Every name is mentioned every case closely investigated.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Names are accepted, names rejected. While any have sins remaining
- 7:59Speaker 1: upon the books of record, unrepented of an unforgiven, their
- 8:02Speaker 1: names will be blotted out of the Book of Life,
- 8:04Speaker 1: and the record of their good deeds will be erased
- 8:06Speaker 1: from the book of God's remembrance. The Lord declared to Moses,
- 8:11Speaker 1: whosoever hath sinned against me him, will I blot out
- 8:14Speaker 1: of my book, And says the prophet is Ekiel. When
- 8:18Speaker 1: the righteous turneth away from his righteousness and committeth iniquity,
- 8:22Speaker 1: all his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned.
- 8:26Speaker 1: All who have truly repented of sin and by faith
- 8:29Speaker 1: claimed the blood of Christ as their atoning sacrifice, have
- 8:33Speaker 1: had pardon entered against their names in the books of Heaven.
- 8:36Speaker 1: As they have become partakers of the righteousness of Christ,
- 8:39Speaker 1: and their characters are found to be in harmony with
- 8:42Speaker 1: the law of God, their sins will be blotted out,
- 8:45Speaker 1: and they themselves will be accounted worthy of eternal life.
- 8:49Speaker 1: The Lord declares by the prophet Isaiah. I even I
- 8:53Speaker 1: am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake,
- 8:56Speaker 1: and will not remember thy sins. At Jesus, he that
- 9:01Speaker 1: overcometh the same shall be clothed in white raiment. And
- 9:04Speaker 1: I will not blot out his name out of the
- 9:06Speaker 1: book of Life. But I will confess his name before
- 9:09Speaker 1: my Father and before his angels. Whosoever therefore shall confess
- 9:14Speaker 1: me before men him, will I confess also before my Father,
- 9:18Speaker 1: which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before
- 9:21Speaker 1: men him, will I also deny before my Father, which
- 9:25Speaker 1: is in heaven. The deepest interest manifested among men in
- 9:29Speaker 1: the decisions of earthly tribunals, but faintly represents the interest
- 9:33Speaker 1: evinced in the heavenly courts. When the names entered in
- 9:36Speaker 1: the Book of Life come up in review before the
- 9:38Speaker 1: Judge of all the Earth, the divine intercessor presents the
- 9:42Speaker 1: plea that all who have overcome through faith in His
- 9:45Speaker 1: blood be forgiven their transgressions, that they be restored to
- 9:49Speaker 1: their even home and crowned as joint heirs with himself
- 9:52Speaker 1: to the first Dominion. Satan, in his efforts to deceive
- 9:56Speaker 1: and tempt our race, had thought to frustrate the divine
- 9:59Speaker 1: plan in man's creation. But Christ now asks that this
- 10:02Speaker 1: plan be carried into effect as if man had never fallen.
- 10:06Speaker 1: He asks for his people not only pardon and justification,
- 10:10Speaker 1: full and complete, but a share in his glory and
- 10:12Speaker 1: a seat upon his throne. While Jesus is pleading for
- 10:16Speaker 1: the subjects of his grace, Satan accuses them before God
- 10:20Speaker 1: as transgressors. The great deceiver has sought to lead them
- 10:24Speaker 1: into skepticism, to cause them to lose confidence in God,
- 10:28Speaker 1: to separate themselves from his love, and to break his law.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Now he points to the record of their lives to
- 10:35Speaker 1: the defects of character, the unlikeness to Christ, which has
- 10:38Speaker 1: dishonored their redeemer, to all the sins that He has
- 10:41Speaker 1: tempted them to commit, and because of these he claims
- 10:44Speaker 1: them as his subjects. Jesus does not excuse their sins,
- 10:49Speaker 1: but shows their penitence and faith, and claiming for them forgiveness.
- 10:53Speaker 1: He lifts his wounded hands before the Father and the
- 10:55Speaker 1: Holy angels, saying, I know them by name, I have
- 10:59Speaker 1: graven them on the palm of my hands. The sacrifices
- 11:03Speaker 1: of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a
- 11:05Speaker 1: contrite heart. O God, thou wilt not despise. And to
- 11:10Speaker 1: the accuser of his people, he declares, the Lord rebuke thee,
- 11:13Speaker 1: O Satan, even the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem, rebuke thee.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Is not this a brand plucked out of the fire.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Christ will clothe his faithful ones with his own righteousness,
- 11:24Speaker 1: that he may present them to his Father a glorious church,
- 11:28Speaker 1: not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing. Their
- 11:32Speaker 1: names stand enrolled in the Book of Life, and concerning
- 11:35Speaker 1: them it is written, they shall walk with me in
- 11:37Speaker 1: white where they are worthy. Thus will be realized the
- 11:41Speaker 1: complete fulfillment of the New Covenant. Promise, I will forgive
- 11:45Speaker 1: their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more
- 11:49Speaker 1: in those days, And in that time, saith the Lord,
- 11:52Speaker 1: the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there
- 11:54Speaker 1: shall be none, and the sins of Judah, and they
- 11:57Speaker 1: shall not be found. And that day shall the branch
- 12:01Speaker 1: of the Lord be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit
- 12:04Speaker 1: of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them
- 12:06Speaker 1: that are escaped to Israel. And it shall come to
- 12:09Speaker 1: pass that he that is left in Zion and he
- 12:12Speaker 1: that remaineth in Jerusalem shall be called holy, even every
- 12:16Speaker 1: one that is written among the living in Jerusalem. The
- 12:20Speaker 1: work of the investigative judgment and the blotting out of
- 12:22Speaker 1: sins is to be accomplished before the second Advent of
- 12:25Speaker 1: the Lord, since the dead are to be judged out
- 12:28Speaker 1: of the things written in the books, it is impossible
- 12:31Speaker 1: that the sins of men should be blotted out until
- 12:34Speaker 1: after the judgment at which their cases are to be investigated.
- 12:38Speaker 1: But the apostle Peter distinctly states that the sins of
- 12:41Speaker 1: believers will be blotted out when the times of refreshing
- 12:45Speaker 1: shall come from the presence of the Lord, and he
- 12:47Speaker 1: shall send Jesus Christ. When the investigative judgment closes, Christ
- 12:52Speaker 1: will come, and his reward will be with him to
- 12:55Speaker 1: give to every man, as his work shall be. In
- 12:59Speaker 1: the typical service. The High Priest, having made the atonement
- 13:02Speaker 1: for Israel, came forth and blessed the congregation. So Christ,
- 13:07Speaker 1: at the close of his work as mediator, will appear
- 13:09Speaker 1: without sin, unto salvation, to bless his waiting people with
- 13:13Speaker 1: eternal life. As the priest, in removing the sins from
- 13:17Speaker 1: the sanctuary, confessed them upon the head of the scapegoat,
- 13:21Speaker 1: so Christ will place all these sins upon Satan, the
- 13:24Speaker 1: originator and instigator of sin. The scapegoat, bearing the sins
- 13:29Speaker 1: of Israel, was sent away unto a land not inhabited.
- 13:32Speaker 1: So Satan, bearing the guilt of all the sins which
- 13:35Speaker 1: he has caused God's people to commit, will be for
- 13:38Speaker 1: a thousand years confined to the earth, which will then
- 13:41Speaker 1: be desolate without inhabitant, and he will at last suffer
- 13:44Speaker 1: the full penalty of sin in the fires that shall
- 13:47Speaker 1: destroy all the wicked. Thus the great plan of Redemption
- 13:51Speaker 1: will reach its accomplishment in the final eradication of sin,
- 13:54Speaker 1: and the deliverance of all who have been willing to
- 13:57Speaker 1: renounce evil at the time appoints for the judgment. The
- 14:01Speaker 1: close of the twenty three hundred days in eighteen forty
- 14:03Speaker 1: four began the work of investigation and blotting out of sins.
- 14:09Speaker 1: All who have ever taken upon themselves the name of
- 14:11Speaker 1: Christ must pass its searching scrutiny. Both the living and
- 14:16Speaker 1: the dead are to be judged out of those things
- 14:18Speaker 1: which were written in the books according to their works.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Sins that have not been repented of and forsaken will
- 14:24Speaker 1: not be pardoned and blotted out of the books of record,
- 14:27Speaker 1: but will stand to witness against the sinner in the
- 14:29Speaker 1: day of God. He may have committed his evil deeds
- 14:33Speaker 1: in the light of day or in the darkness of night,
- 14:36Speaker 1: but they were open and manifest before him with whom
- 14:38Speaker 1: we have to do. Angels of God witnessed each sin
- 14:43Speaker 1: and registered it in the honouring records. Sin may be concealed, denied,
- 14:48Speaker 1: covered up from father, mother, wife, children, and associates. No
- 14:53Speaker 1: one but the guilty actors may cherish the least suspicion
- 14:56Speaker 1: of the wrong, but it is laid bare before the
- 14:58Speaker 1: intelligences of heaven the darkness of the darkest night. The
- 15:03Speaker 1: secrecy of all deceptive arts is not sufficient to veil
- 15:07Speaker 1: one thought from the knowledge of the eternal God has
- 15:10Speaker 1: an exact record of every unjust account and every unfair dealing.
- 15:15Speaker 1: He is not deceived by appearances of piety. He makes
- 15:19Speaker 1: no mistakes in his estimation of character. Men may be
- 15:23Speaker 1: deceived by those who are corrupt in heart, but God
- 15:26Speaker 1: pierces all disguises and reads the inner life. How solemn
- 15:31Speaker 1: is the thought? Day after day passing into eternity bears
- 15:36Speaker 1: its burden of records for the books of Heaven. Words,
- 15:39Speaker 1: once spoken, deeds once done, can never be recalled. Angels
- 15:44Speaker 1: have registered both the good and the evil. The mightiest
- 15:48Speaker 1: conqueror upon the earth cannot call back the record of
- 15:50Speaker 1: even a single day. Our acts, our words, even our
- 15:55Speaker 1: most secret motives, all have their weight in deciding our destiny,
- 15:59Speaker 1: for real or woe. Though they may be forgotten by us,
- 16:03Speaker 1: they will bear their testimony to justify or to condemn.
- 16:07Speaker 1: As the features of the countenance are reproduced with honoring
- 16:10Speaker 1: accuracy on the polished plate of the artist, So the
- 16:13Speaker 1: character is faithfully delineated in the books above. Yet, how
- 16:18Speaker 1: little solicitude is felt concerning that record which is to
- 16:21Speaker 1: meet the gaze of heavenly beings. Could the veil which
- 16:25Speaker 1: separates the visible from the invisible world be swept back,
- 16:28Speaker 1: and the children of men behold an angel recording every
- 16:31Speaker 1: word and deed which they must meet again in the judgment.
- 16:34Speaker 1: How many words that are daily uttered would remain unspoken?
- 16:38Speaker 1: How many deeds would remain undone in the judgment? The
- 16:42Speaker 1: use made of every talent will be scrutinized. How have
- 16:46Speaker 1: we employed the capital lent us of heaven? Will the
- 16:49Speaker 1: Lord at his coming receive his own with usury? Have
- 16:53Speaker 1: we improved the powers entrusted us in hand and heart
- 16:56Speaker 1: and brain to the glory of God and the blessing
- 16:59Speaker 1: of the world. How have we used our time, our pen,
- 17:03Speaker 1: our voice, our money, our influence? What have we done
- 17:07Speaker 1: for Christ in the person of the poor, the afflicted,
- 17:10Speaker 1: the orphan, or the widow? God has made us the
- 17:13Speaker 1: depositories of His Holy Word? What have we done with
- 17:16Speaker 1: the light and truth given us to make men wise
- 17:18Speaker 1: into salvation? No value is attached to a mere profession
- 17:23Speaker 1: of faith in Christ. Only the love which is shown
- 17:26Speaker 1: by works as counted genuine. Yet It is love alone, which,
- 17:30Speaker 1: in the sight of Heaven, makes any act of value.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Whatever is done from love, however small it may appear
- 17:37Speaker 1: in the estimation of men, is accepted and rewarded of God.
- 17:42Speaker 1: The hidden selfishness of men stands revealed in the books
- 17:45Speaker 1: of Heaven. There is the record of unfulfilled duties to
- 17:49Speaker 1: their fellow men, of forgetfulness of the Saviour's claims. There
- 17:53Speaker 1: they will see how often were given to Satan, the time, thought,
- 17:57Speaker 1: and strength that belonged to Christ sad as the record
- 18:01Speaker 1: which angels bear to Heaven. Intelligent beings professed followers of
- 18:05Speaker 1: Christ are absorbed in the acquirement of worldly possessions or
- 18:09Speaker 1: the enjoyment of earthly pleasures. Money, time, and strength are
- 18:13Speaker 1: sacrificed for display and self indulgence. But few are the
- 18:17Speaker 1: moments devoted to prayer, to the searching of the scriptures,
- 18:21Speaker 1: to humiliation of soul and confession of sin. Satan invents
- 18:26Speaker 1: unnumbered schemes to occupy our minds that they may not
- 18:30Speaker 1: dwell upon the very work with which we ought to
- 18:32Speaker 1: be best acquainted. The arc deceiver hates the great truths
- 18:36Speaker 1: that bring to view an atoning sacrifice and an all
- 18:39Speaker 1: powerful mediator. He knows that with him everything depends on
- 18:43Speaker 1: his diverting minds from Jesus and his Truth. Those who
- 18:47Speaker 1: would share the benefits of the Saviour's mediation should permit
- 18:50Speaker 1: nothing to interfere with their duty to perfect holiness in
- 18:53Speaker 1: the fear of God. The precious hours, instead of being
- 18:58Speaker 1: given to pleasure, to display or to gain seeking, should
- 19:01Speaker 1: be devoted to an earnest, prayerful study of the Word
- 19:04Speaker 1: of Truth. The subject of the sanctuary and the investigative
- 19:08Speaker 1: judgment should be clearly understood by the people of God.
- 19:12Speaker 1: All need a knowledge for themselves of the position and
- 19:15Speaker 1: work of their Great High Priest. Otherwise it will be
- 19:19Speaker 1: impossible for them to exercise the faith which is essential
- 19:22Speaker 1: at this time, or to occupy the position which God
- 19:25Speaker 1: designs them to fill. Every individual has a soul to
- 19:29Speaker 1: save or to lose. Each has a case pending at
- 19:32Speaker 1: the bar of God. Each must meet the Great Judge
- 19:35Speaker 1: face to face. How important then, that every mind contemplate
- 19:40Speaker 1: often this solemn scene, when the judgment shall sit and
- 19:43Speaker 1: the books shall be opened. When with Daniel, every individual
- 19:47Speaker 1: must stand in his lot at the end of the days,
- 19:50Speaker 1: All who have received the light upon these subjects are
- 19:53Speaker 1: to bear testimony of the great truths which God has
- 19:56Speaker 1: committed to them. The Sanctuary in heaven is the very
- 20:00Speaker 1: center of Christ's work in behalf of men. It concerns
- 20:04Speaker 1: every soul living upon the earth. It opens to view
- 20:07Speaker 1: the plan of redemption, bringing us down to the very
- 20:10Speaker 1: close of time, and revealing the triumphant issue of the
- 20:13Speaker 1: contest between righteousness and sin. It is of the utmost
- 20:18Speaker 1: importance that all should thoroughly investigate these subjects, and be
- 20:22Speaker 1: able to give an answer to every one that asketh
- 20:24Speaker 1: them a reason of the hope that is in them.
- 20:27Speaker 1: The intercession of Christ in man's behalf in the sanctuary
- 20:31Speaker 1: above is as essential to the plan of salvation as
- 20:34Speaker 1: was his death upon the cross. By his death he
- 20:37Speaker 1: began that work which after his resurrection he ascended to
- 20:41Speaker 1: complete in heaven. We must, by faith enter within the veil,
- 20:45Speaker 1: whither the forerunner is for us. Entered there the light
- 20:49Speaker 1: from the cross of Cavalry is reflected. There we may
- 20:52Speaker 1: gain a clearer insight into the mysteries of redemption. The
- 20:56Speaker 1: salvation of man is accomplished at an infinite expense to
- 20:59Speaker 1: heap them. The sacrifice made is equal to the broadest
- 21:03Speaker 1: demands of the broken law of God. Jesus has opened
- 21:06Speaker 1: the way to the Father's throne, and through his mediation,
- 21:10Speaker 1: the sincere desire of all who come to him in
- 21:12Speaker 1: faith may be presented before God. He that covereth his
- 21:17Speaker 1: sins shall not prosper, but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them
- 21:21Speaker 1: shall have mercy. If those who hide and excuse their
- 21:25Speaker 1: faults could see how Satan exalts over them, how he
- 21:29Speaker 1: taunts Christ and Holy Angels with their course, they would
- 21:32Speaker 1: make haste to confess their sins and to put them away.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Through defects in the character, Satan works to gain control
- 21:40Speaker 1: of the whole mind, and he knows that if these
- 21:42Speaker 1: defects are cherished, he will succeed. Therefore, he is constantly
- 21:47Speaker 1: seeking to deceive the followers of Christ with his fatal sophistry,
- 21:50Speaker 1: that it is impossible for them to overcome. But Jesus
- 21:54Speaker 1: pleads in their behalf, his wounded hands, his bruised body,
- 21:58Speaker 1: and he declares to all who would follow him, my
- 22:00Speaker 1: grace is sufficient for thee. Take my yoke upon you
- 22:04Speaker 1: and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly
- 22:07Speaker 1: in heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
- 22:11Speaker 1: For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Let none then regard their defects as incurable. God will
- 22:18Speaker 1: give faith and grace to overcome them. We are now
- 22:21Speaker 1: living in the great day of Atonement. In the typical service,
- 22:26Speaker 1: while the High Priest was making the Atonement for Israel,
- 22:29Speaker 1: all were required to afflict their souls by repentance of
- 22:32Speaker 1: sin and humiliation before the Lord, lest they be cut
- 22:36Speaker 1: off from among the people. In like manner, all who
- 22:40Speaker 1: would have their names retained in the Book of Life should, now,
- 22:43Speaker 1: in the few remaining days of their probation, afflict their
- 22:46Speaker 1: souls before God by sorrow for sin and true repentance.
- 22:51Speaker 1: There must be deep, faithful searching of heart. The light
- 22:54Speaker 1: frivolous spirit indulged by so many professed Christians must be
- 22:58Speaker 1: put away. There is earnest warfare before all who would
- 23:02Speaker 1: subdue the evil tendencies that strive for the mastery. The
- 23:06Speaker 1: work of preparation is an individual work. We are not
- 23:09Speaker 1: saved in groups. The purity and devotion of one will
- 23:13Speaker 1: not offset the want of these qualities in another. Though
- 23:17Speaker 1: all nations are to pass in judgment before God. Yet
- 23:20Speaker 1: he will examine the case of each individual with as
- 23:23Speaker 1: close and searching scrutiny as if there were not another
- 23:26Speaker 1: being upon the earth. Every one must be tested and
- 23:30Speaker 1: found without spot or wrinkle, or any such thing. Solemn
- 23:34Speaker 1: are the scenes connected with the closing work of the atonement.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Momentous are the interests involved therein. The judgment is now
- 23:42Speaker 1: passing in the sanctuary above. For many years this work
- 23:46Speaker 1: has been in progress. Soon none know how soon it
- 23:50Speaker 1: will pass to the cases of the living. In the
- 23:53Speaker 1: awful presence of God, our lives are to come up
- 23:56Speaker 1: and review at this time, Above all others, it hooves
- 24:00Speaker 1: every soul to heed the Saviour's admonition, watch and pray,
- 24:04Speaker 1: for ye know not when the time is. If therefore
- 24:07Speaker 1: thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as
- 24:10Speaker 1: a thief, And thou shalt not know what hour I
- 24:12Speaker 1: will come upon thee. When the work of the investigative
- 24:16Speaker 1: judgment closes, the destiny of all will have been decided
- 24:20Speaker 1: for life or death. Probation is ended a short time
- 24:24Speaker 1: before the appearing of the Lord and the clouds of heaven.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Christ in the Revelation, looking forward to that time, declares
- 24:31Speaker 1: he that is unjust, let him be unjust still. And
- 24:34Speaker 1: he which is filthy, let him be filthy still. And
- 24:38Speaker 1: he that is righteous, let him be righteous still. And
- 24:41Speaker 1: he that is holy, let him be holy still. And behold,
- 24:45Speaker 1: I come quickly, and my reward is with me to
- 24:48Speaker 1: give every man according as his work shall be. The
- 24:52Speaker 1: righteous and the wicked will still be living upon the
- 24:54Speaker 1: earth in their mortal state. Men will be planting and building,
- 24:58Speaker 1: eating and drinking, all on co conscious that the final,
- 25:01Speaker 1: irrevocable decision has been pronounced in the sanctuary above. Before
- 25:06Speaker 1: the flood, after Noah entered the ark, God shut him
- 25:09Speaker 1: in and shut the ungodly out. But for seven days
- 25:12Speaker 1: the people, knowing not that their doom was fixed, continued
- 25:15Speaker 1: their careless, pleasure loving life, and mocked the warnings of
- 25:18Speaker 1: impending judgment. So says the Savior. Shall also the coming
- 25:23Speaker 1: of the Son of Man be silently unnoticed, as the
- 25:27Speaker 1: midnight thief will come, the decisive hour which marks the
- 25:31Speaker 1: fixing of every man's destiny, the final withdrawal of Mercy's
- 25:35Speaker 1: offer to guilty men. Watch you therefore must coming suddenly
- 25:39Speaker 1: he finds you sleeping. Perilous is the condition of those
- 25:43Speaker 1: who growing weary of their watch, turned to the attractions
- 25:47Speaker 1: of the world. While the man of business is absorbed
- 25:51Speaker 1: in the pursuit of gain, while the pleasure lover is
- 25:53Speaker 1: seeking indulgence, while the daughter of fashion is arranging her adornments.
- 25:58Speaker 1: It may be in that hour the judge of all
- 26:00Speaker 1: the earth will pronounce the sentence Thou art weighed in
- 26:03Speaker 1: the balances, and art found wanting. End of Chapter twenty eight.
