- 0:16Speaker 1: Excited to visit right now with a South Dakota filmmaker
- 0:20Speaker 1: and we are going to talk about a really cool
- 0:23Speaker 1: documentary that's a faith based documentary that she's put together.
- 0:26Speaker 1: It's called Joy in the Heartland, Life Changing road Trips
- 0:30Speaker 1: through God's Healing Fields of South Dakota. I've got Lynette Kelly.
- 0:34Speaker 1: First of all, Lynnette, thank you for your time and
- 0:36Speaker 1: thank you for reaching out to tell me about this. Now.
- 0:39Speaker 1: How many films have you done? Is this something that
- 0:41Speaker 1: you've done in the past as well?
- 0:43Speaker 2: No, this is my very first attempt at doing a film,
- 0:47Speaker 2: and I'm really excited and very proud of it.
- 0:49Speaker 1: And what I've seen online it looks really really cool
- 0:52Speaker 1: and I'm excited to see the entire thing. We'll get
- 0:55Speaker 1: a chance to see that here in a couple of weeks.
- 0:57Speaker 1: There's like the world premiere is the thirteenth of August
- 0:59Speaker 1: is that right.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yes, it'll be open to the world on the thirteenth
- 1:03Speaker 2: of August, and it'll be through my website.
- 1:06Speaker 1: And how exciting is that for you to just kind
- 1:09Speaker 1: of go, okay, hey, pretty soon anybody anywhere in the
- 1:12Speaker 1: world can click on and watch this documentary. That's got
- 1:15Speaker 1: to be pretty exciting stuff.
- 1:16Speaker 2: It is exciting and a little overwhelming at this point,
- 1:20Speaker 2: but I'm so excited for everyone to see it. And
- 1:24Speaker 2: that's the purpose that I'm doing this is because my
- 1:28Speaker 2: drive to the country was a six month drive and
- 1:32Speaker 2: four thousand miles, sixteen hundred photographs, and when I finished
- 1:37Speaker 2: the drive, it was just gratitude everywhere. I mean, my
- 1:41Speaker 2: friend who is my driver, and myself just fulfilled with gratitude,
- 1:45Speaker 2: and we wanted to discover a way to share it
- 1:48Speaker 2: with the world. So this is my opportunity.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I love that now you're a retired nurse, you're an author,
- 1:53Speaker 1: and you're a photographer, and now you're a filmmaker. How
- 1:57Speaker 1: cool is it to wear that hat.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I think it's really exciting. I can't tell you yet.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I'm just still walking through the stages of it, but
- 2:07Speaker 2: I think today I see the public watching it and
- 2:10Speaker 2: enjoying it. It'll bring tears, I know it will.
- 2:14Speaker 1: And this film takes viewers on an uplifting tour across
- 2:17Speaker 1: fifty one unique communities in southeastern South Dakota, capturing local
- 2:21Speaker 1: history and landmarks and resilience through the lens of quiet faith,
- 2:26Speaker 1: which again i'm reading right from your press release. You
- 2:28Speaker 1: made these words sound so beautiful, so I'm like, I'm
- 2:31Speaker 1: going to use them just the way you have them.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I'm excited to see this because I can tell just
- 2:35Speaker 1: from the press release that you know what you're doing.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Here, well hopefully. So. I had some helpers with me.
- 2:42Speaker 2: This wasn't alone project. I had someone who helped me.
- 2:46Speaker 2: We went This is actually from my book. My book
- 2:50Speaker 2: was launched in twenty twenty two, and first of all,
- 2:55Speaker 2: I went out and I was doing some public speaking
- 2:58Speaker 2: and going to various places. Is then the feedback I
- 3:01Speaker 2: was getting was so many people were unable to take
- 3:04Speaker 2: my trails and get out, and so I thought, well,
- 3:07Speaker 2: how am I going to reach those individuals? And that's
- 3:10Speaker 2: kind of where the book came the movie came from.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Then at that point, well, if they can't get out
- 3:15Speaker 2: and experience the joy that I discovered, then I'll bring
- 3:19Speaker 2: them to Joy.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I love that, and again, Joy in the Heartland. That's
- 3:23Speaker 1: the name of the book. That's also the name of
- 3:25Speaker 1: the new documentary, and that's the name of the website,
- 3:28Speaker 1: Joyintheheartland dot com. So if people want to find you,
- 3:32Speaker 1: that's a good way to find you. And are you
- 3:35Speaker 1: from South Dakota? Is that why this is from South Dakota.
- 3:38Speaker 2: I grew up in Pipestone, Minnesota, and I came down
- 3:42Speaker 2: to Sioux Falls to take my nurses training. So I
- 3:44Speaker 2: started out actually as a nurse right here in Zeus Falls.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I love that, and again, I think this is really neat.
- 3:50Speaker 1: The fifty one communities are all not too far from
- 3:54Speaker 1: Sioux Falls. So if somebody is listening in Sioux Falls
- 3:56Speaker 1: and they have a chance to read the book and
- 3:58Speaker 1: they say, hey, I want to get out and it out,
- 4:00Speaker 1: they can do that. Or if they're maybe watching this
- 4:02Speaker 1: film and they fall in love with some of the places,
- 4:05Speaker 1: they can get out and see them. It wouldn't be
- 4:06Speaker 1: hard for them to get out and check all of
- 4:08Speaker 1: this out.
- 4:08Speaker 2: What it no And what I did was I took
- 4:11Speaker 2: this entire radius around Too Falls, which takes in all
- 4:15Speaker 2: fifty one communities, and I mapped it out, so each
- 4:19Speaker 2: trail is a trail that has, you know, makes it
- 4:22Speaker 2: a little easier and accessible for people to take the
- 4:25Speaker 2: day trip, and then the next trail another day trip
- 4:28Speaker 2: and interesting things along the way. And then when I
- 4:31Speaker 2: was finished, like I mentioned, I was so filled with
- 4:35Speaker 2: gratitude and joy and it was really an exciting journey.
- 4:40Speaker 2: So I felt compelled and I went out and I
- 4:43Speaker 2: found the keeper of the heart for each one of
- 4:45Speaker 2: these fifty one towns.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Nice.
- 4:47Speaker 2: So I painted up straight, painted fifty one hearts bright red,
- 4:51Speaker 2: and I did cold calls over the telephone, just strangers.
- 4:56Speaker 2: I asked if they would be the keeper of my heart,
- 4:59Speaker 2: and I try, no one hung up on me.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I love it.
- 5:03Speaker 2: I ended up with fifty one people that were willing
- 5:07Speaker 2: to put the heart somewhere in their community. So when
- 5:09Speaker 2: you go on these trips or you go on the film,
- 5:13Speaker 2: you can watch from the comfort of your front room
- 5:16Speaker 2: and you can still search for the hunt the hearts
- 5:19Speaker 2: as you go on this journey.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And that's the fifty one Hearts Initiative. Is that what
- 5:23Speaker 1: that's called the fifty one Hearts Initiative?
- 5:25Speaker 2: Yeah, uh huh.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I love that that's really neat. Well. I think this
- 5:28Speaker 1: whole thing is just so much fun. I appreciate you
- 5:31Speaker 1: taking some time to chat with us about it, and
- 5:33Speaker 1: thank you for doing this. If people want to learn more,
- 5:36Speaker 1: I encourage them to go to the website joyintheheartland dot com.
- 5:40Speaker 1: And again, this will begin on the thirteenth of August.
- 5:43Speaker 1: That's won't be able to actually see the full thing right.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Correct, And you can just go to my website and
- 5:48Speaker 2: you can download or stream it or whatever they call it,
- 5:52Speaker 2: I guess nice from the comfort of your home or
- 5:55Speaker 2: whatever device you have.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Again, it's going to be here before you know. At
- 5:58Speaker 1: August thirteenth is the big day between now, and I
- 6:01Speaker 1: encourage you to go check out the book that's available
- 6:03Speaker 1: right now. And again, all of this can be found
- 6:05Speaker 1: at joyintheheartland dot com. Lynette, thank you for your time.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I appreciate it.
- 6:09Speaker 2: I have one note to add, oh yeah, what's up?
- 6:13Speaker 2: Because this is not an in depth, deep, deep study
- 6:16Speaker 2: of each community because I had to keep it within
- 6:19Speaker 2: a realm of time, so the movie became two hours,
- 6:24Speaker 2: even though I kept it very minimal and made sure
- 6:27Speaker 2: every community in this radius was included. So it's still
- 6:30Speaker 2: a two hour long documentary.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I love that well. I am excited to see it
- 6:34Speaker 1: on the thirteenth of August, which will be here before
- 6:37Speaker 1: you know it. You'll be able to watch it as well.
- 6:39Speaker 1: The website again, Joyintheheartland dot com
- 6:43Speaker 2: Now
