- 0:57Speaker 3: Let's do it. Let's rock out another show.
- 1:00Speaker 1: There's another good one. We've been having some some good
- 1:03Speaker 1: shows lately. I like the way that we've been, you know,
- 1:06Speaker 1: picking up on some things we've been putting down on
- 1:08Speaker 1: paper and which kind of talks about our show tonight.
- 1:14Speaker 1: So that's good. Give some people a chance to tap in,
- 1:19Speaker 1: tap in, tap in, come in. You are welcome. The
- 1:22Speaker 1: welcome that is out. I want you to come on
- 1:25Speaker 1: into the business table, see what we got to talk
- 1:28Speaker 1: about tonight. I'm gonna go ahead and move into what
- 1:33Speaker 1: we're talking about tonight. The patient procrastinator m hm m
- 1:40Speaker 1: hm mum hm hm. So yes, this is very good.
- 1:44Speaker 1: This is why I want to kind of give a
- 1:46Speaker 1: minute make sure that all those who wanted to tap
- 1:50Speaker 1: in and see what I wanted to kind of cover,
- 1:54Speaker 1: see what we had up our sleeves wanted to talk about.
- 1:59Speaker 1: But yeah, this is a good one. This is a
- 2:01Speaker 1: real good one. Jesse and I did a lot of
- 2:04Speaker 1: research inside and outside to kind of bring this together.
- 2:10Speaker 1: We did a lot of, like I said, researching and
- 2:13Speaker 1: dialoguing with each other to understand, you know, each other's
- 2:16Speaker 1: point of view as well as thinking outside the box
- 2:19Speaker 1: from other different point of views. So very proud of
- 2:23Speaker 1: this one, right, But like I said, we're gonna go
- 2:27Speaker 1: ahead and dive in again. Welcome to another episode of
- 2:29Speaker 1: Bad to Business. Today, we are going to be talking
- 2:31Speaker 1: about the patient procrastinator. And the title says it all,
- 2:36Speaker 1: but there's so much more you know under a title,
- 2:39Speaker 1: and this one is no different. Tonight's episode, we're gonna
- 2:43Speaker 1: be talking about how to identify the patient procrastinator? Is
- 2:47Speaker 1: it you or the company you keep? Because both positions
- 2:49Speaker 1: are kind of dangerous, so you want to make sure
- 2:52Speaker 1: you know who is who in your circle. We'll be
- 2:56Speaker 1: talking about the three p's of procrastination, perfection, procrastination which
- 3:02Speaker 1: can also be switched out with people pleasing. We'll get
- 3:05Speaker 1: into that, and finally, paralysis, and Jesse and I will
- 3:11Speaker 1: be giving some tips on how to get back on
- 3:14Speaker 1: track after you've been get back on your feet, after
- 3:16Speaker 1: you've been sitting a little too long. So definitely want
- 3:20Speaker 1: to get into that and get this stuff rolling because
- 3:23Speaker 1: we got some facts to say. Thank you for joining in,
- 3:26Speaker 1: Thank you for joining in. The door is still open,
- 3:28Speaker 1: the welcome matter is still out. Come on and join in.
- 3:31Speaker 1: But like I said, we definitely want to get in
- 3:33Speaker 1: and tap into some things. We don't want to procrastinate
- 3:36Speaker 1: any longer on this right.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Definitely, definitely.
- 3:43Speaker 3: And sometimes, I mean, you want it so perfect and
- 3:47Speaker 3: it's so overwhelming that you got so much going on
- 3:50Speaker 3: that it sometimes leads to that procrastination. I read somewhere
- 3:54Speaker 3: that perfection is achieved not when there's nothing more to add,
- 4:00Speaker 3: but when there's nothing left to take away, and you've
- 4:02Speaker 3: got to be okay sometimes with.
- 4:06Speaker 1: That. And that's really hard to kind of fit that
- 4:10Speaker 1: in the way you say perfection is, you know, when
- 4:14Speaker 1: you don't do anything else.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, most perfection is trying to do so much
- 4:20Speaker 2: more with it.
- 4:21Speaker 3: So mm hmm. And I mean, and let's go into
- 4:25Speaker 3: what what procrastination means. I mean, it's really the act
- 4:28Speaker 3: of delaying or avoiding a task you intend to do,
- 4:32Speaker 3: even when you know the delay could lead to negative consequences.
- 4:36Speaker 3: You know so, And I also have seen and read.
- 4:39Speaker 3: I mean, I took a psychology class back in college.
- 4:42Speaker 3: But psychologists call it self self regulation failure. And that's
- 4:47Speaker 3: when your short term emotions hijack your long term goals
- 4:51Speaker 3: and you're painfully aware of what's happening as it happens
- 4:54Speaker 3: to you.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Yeah, you still know how to stop it.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's what we want to dive in today
- 5:05Speaker 1: about recognizing it and stopping it, right, that's the main goal.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I mean, to be honest, all of
- 5:12Speaker 3: it can lead to different health hazards. I mean, it
- 5:15Speaker 3: can mess with your mental health. You know, it can
- 5:18Speaker 3: lead to anxiety, depression, It can lead to stress sometimes,
- 5:23Speaker 3: you know, it just depends. It can definitely take a
- 5:27Speaker 3: toll on your body. And speaking from me personally, who like,
- 5:31Speaker 3: I'm not the person to stress.
- 5:33Speaker 2: So when I stress out herself, Okay, I don't know.
- 5:38Speaker 1: If I'm seeing Prey, i'd tell you she handles it.
- 5:42Speaker 1: She handles stress pretty well.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I mean, I price because it affects me, like it
- 5:49Speaker 2: really really affects me.
- 5:50Speaker 3: My body hurts, my mind, you know, is just running
- 5:54Speaker 3: at a million miles and then I've been there.
- 5:56Speaker 2: It's messed up.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I remember I had an old boss told me one time,
- 6:01Speaker 1: and she was a boss that I saw take on
- 6:04Speaker 1: a lot of stuff. And I remember pulling her aside
- 6:07Speaker 1: one time, like, how do you manage not only the job,
- 6:10Speaker 1: but because you're a manager and you got to manage
- 6:12Speaker 1: other people, how do you, you know, do all that?
- 6:17Speaker 1: And she said, you know, to be honest, I got
- 6:19Speaker 1: a healthcare while you're talking about that, tell me what
- 6:23Speaker 1: it was. But for her to tell me that she
- 6:26Speaker 1: had a health scare that cost her to kind of
- 6:29Speaker 1: take things a little bit better, yeah, so yeah, and
- 6:35Speaker 1: talking about how health can can affect it, so I
- 6:38Speaker 1: get there.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Yeah, And then procrastination, Like with her, it could have
- 6:42Speaker 3: been one of those things where she's so busy working,
- 6:44Speaker 3: managing and doing everything and work that the procrastination on
- 6:48Speaker 3: her health meant she missed daily checkups that could have
- 6:50Speaker 3: caught whatever it was that might have been went wrong.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Treatment is not there because you hell, you haven't gone
- 6:58Speaker 3: to the doctor, so you don't know what it is
- 7:00Speaker 3: that can make it better. And you know, sometimes even
- 7:03Speaker 3: like the simplest thing like lack of exercise, sleep, good
- 7:08Speaker 3: eating habits, all that can.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Affect everything that you do. It can affect your work,
- 7:13Speaker 2: your performance.
- 7:14Speaker 3: And like with her, like you said, she had a
- 7:17Speaker 3: health scare which turned out to probably take her out
- 7:19Speaker 3: of work for.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Way longer then maybe she had anticipated.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Maybe if she had just went to the doctor on
- 7:25Speaker 3: a regular basis, you know, yeah, I mean advice.
- 7:34Speaker 1: When she went. When I was talking to her, that
- 7:37Speaker 1: might have been a little bit of it too. It's
- 7:38Speaker 1: not just handling stress well, but how did you get
- 7:41Speaker 1: to that point of handling your stress well? Great?
- 7:46Speaker 3: I mean, like you said, can it can jeopardize her
- 7:49Speaker 3: overall well being. It takes time off of work, time
- 7:52Speaker 3: away from your family, your you sacrifice your rest trying
- 7:56Speaker 3: to cut corners, prenching time. You can't do any of
- 8:00Speaker 3: that if you're sick and mess up, so you can't
- 8:04Speaker 3: procrastinating on things that.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Matter, you know what I mean. And I know it's hard,
- 8:09Speaker 2: but you can't.
- 8:12Speaker 1: That's true. And you did say crunching time.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Get into that.
- 8:18Speaker 1: You know, when I talk about crunch time, sometimes crunch
- 8:22Speaker 1: time is the best sign. And that's coming from somebody
- 8:25Speaker 1: who feels like they are the one of the most
- 8:29Speaker 1: perfect patient procrastinators there are, you know, and I'm gonna
- 8:33Speaker 1: tell you, you know, and when I say perfect, perfect
- 8:37Speaker 1: patient procrastinator, you know, let me define myself. You know.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Even when I say that, I mean it's a little
- 8:43Speaker 1: bit different. There is a strategy to you know, sometimes
- 8:47Speaker 1: there is a strategy to procrastination. But let's go ahead
- 8:54Speaker 1: and define somebody that you may know or yourself. And
- 8:57Speaker 1: if the shoe fits, either gonna wear it or you're
- 8:59Speaker 1: gonna take it off. Okay, but let's define somebody that
- 9:04Speaker 1: may be that perfect. I'm not even gonna give anybody
- 9:09Speaker 1: else that title. Okay, I claimed it, won't do it.
- 9:12Speaker 1: But let's let's see how we define that patient procrastinator.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Is it you or anybody else? Someone who waits for
- 9:20Speaker 1: the perfect ideas or opportunity before even making the first step?
- 9:26Speaker 1: Now one of those there's a word in it that
- 9:31Speaker 1: probably should not be relant relevant to any of us.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sorry, relevant, but not really. I'm gonna
- 9:40Speaker 1: say able to be applied. And the key word in
- 9:43Speaker 1: there is perfect.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, where.
- 9:48Speaker 1: We're waiting for the perfect idea or the perfect opportunity
- 9:51Speaker 1: before we even make And we've heard jokes memes about
- 9:58Speaker 1: waiting number guy, wait on the perfect this wait. There
- 10:03Speaker 1: is no perfect unfortunately, and I will say, even to
- 10:07Speaker 1: some procrastinators, perfect probably never comes because there's always a
- 10:13Speaker 1: better time, right, There's always something that could be better
- 10:18Speaker 1: about even when the moment comes. Right. So, even with
- 10:25Speaker 1: that being said, someone who, like I said, who feels
- 10:28Speaker 1: like there's more to do, someone who overthinks or over
- 10:33Speaker 1: researches ultimately wasting time and not doing anything with that time. So,
- 10:40Speaker 1: like I just said, we you know, wait on that
- 10:43Speaker 1: perfect time and then when we I guess when it
- 10:46Speaker 1: does come, because sometimes you could put you know, a
- 10:48Speaker 1: label on it when this happens, or I'm gonna put
- 10:50Speaker 1: a date on it January first. I'm gonna do a
- 10:54Speaker 1: whole lot of stuff.
- 10:55Speaker 2: We won't even talk about it.
- 10:59Speaker 1: I can't ever again and just be again and and again. Okay,
- 11:05Speaker 1: but start in January first. I'm not gonna do that.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So we try to, you know, put something on there.
- 11:10Speaker 1: And another thing about you know, doing that and not
- 11:14Speaker 1: following through is that you get there and then it's
- 11:21Speaker 1: still not the perfect time. Like I said, something's wrong
- 11:24Speaker 1: with it. Something happens, you realize, and especially when you
- 11:28Speaker 1: set a date or goal a little further out right, Ye,
- 11:32Speaker 1: something is gonna happen. I mean, distractions are supposed to happen.
- 11:36Speaker 1: The adversary is real, but your focus should be really
- 11:39Speaker 1: you know, so you know overthinking. I am a little
- 11:45Speaker 1: guilty of that myself, because every time I can think
- 11:49Speaker 1: of an idea and I'm like, oh, that's great, I'm
- 11:51Speaker 1: gonna try that. Sometimes I call you like hey, what
- 11:53Speaker 1: you think about this? And you're like, oh, that's good,
- 11:56Speaker 1: and then I, being unadjusted, I have adjusted it about
- 12:00Speaker 1: five times since you've seen it, like did you post it?
- 12:03Speaker 1: Did you say something about it? Or like no, I'm
- 12:06Speaker 1: still doing some things. I'm I'm gonna so moving even
- 12:13Speaker 1: into that. And the next thing is someone who is
- 12:18Speaker 1: too comfortable with rescheduling or canceling appointments, like it's okay
- 12:23Speaker 1: to avoid the tasks at hand that you need to do.
- 12:27Speaker 1: That's why I was saying, like, uh, now this happened,
- 12:29Speaker 1: not happened. You know. First of all, I'm feeling attacked, okay,
- 12:33Speaker 1: because I think I just said something about myself when
- 12:37Speaker 1: I said defining the patient procrastinator. I think I probably
- 12:42Speaker 1: made a reason for everything, and that's okay, because part
- 12:46Speaker 1: of this was defining who wears that shoe. And like
- 12:50Speaker 1: I said, if the shoe fits weird, I'm finna take
- 12:52Speaker 1: my shoes off, I'm finna take my socks off. I
- 12:57Speaker 1: need to bare foot for a while, find a floodstone
- 13:00Speaker 1: for a minute, because apparently I need to get back
- 13:02Speaker 1: to my roots. Okay, but yeah, so the defining that person.
- 13:11Speaker 1: So that's three ways of defining who's wearing that shoe,
- 13:15Speaker 1: and you know who's wearing it comfortably. And again, you
- 13:19Speaker 1: gotta be careful of those people who are comfortable with
- 13:22Speaker 1: pushing things back and not getting to task and avoiding things.
- 13:27Speaker 1: And speaking of avoiding things, let's talk the difference between
- 13:30Speaker 1: taking general rest to something and actually avoiding for some things. Right.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I read somewhere that the procrastination habit is mostly emotional.
- 13:43Speaker 1: When a task feels too boring or overwhelming or likely
- 13:48Speaker 1: to go bad, we tend to avoid it. That avoidance
- 13:51Speaker 1: gives us short term relief, which feels good in the moment.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yeah, but not forever, no, because I.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Mean, we all know what you put off today, We'll
- 14:04Speaker 1: show up tomorrow. Right, But even talking the temporary, the
- 14:11Speaker 1: short term temporary relief of it, I feel so attacked,
- 14:17Speaker 1: but yet so understood. I'm about to tell you what
- 14:23Speaker 1: let me tell you. You know, the short term relief
- 14:28Speaker 1: may come from and this is gonna sound weird, but
- 14:34Speaker 1: kind of like you did accomplish something like maybe you
- 14:39Speaker 1: accomplished putting it off. What got sounds crazy, I know,
- 14:45Speaker 1: I don't like. So. I had a boss one time
- 14:48Speaker 1: that was saying that, you know, you can't continuously put
- 14:52Speaker 1: things off. Right, if you got to put something off
- 14:55Speaker 1: today till tomorrow, cool, but when you get to tomorrow,
- 14:58Speaker 1: it can't go to the next day. I mean, you
- 15:00Speaker 1: may be able to put something off the next day
- 15:03Speaker 1: until the next day, but don't carry things two days over.
- 15:08Speaker 1: So you know. But like I said, so, if you,
- 15:12Speaker 1: I guess, push that to the next day, your short
- 15:14Speaker 1: term relief kind of feels like, Okay, that's what I
- 15:17Speaker 1: did with that, right, That's that's get it or don't. Okay,
- 15:24Speaker 1: I'm telling you that's like. But again, let's talk the
- 15:30Speaker 1: difference between just giving some general rest to something versus
- 15:35Speaker 1: just avoiding something, avoiding the task that needs to be done. Ultimately, right,
- 15:39Speaker 1: So let's talk being burnt out from doing something productive
- 15:47Speaker 1: versus burnt out from doing absolutely nothing productive. Of course,
- 15:54Speaker 1: your goal is rated. You want to rate the goal.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Yeah, something you.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Want to set a goal, continue to be a bigger
- 16:01Speaker 1: goal in your life, right, so you never want to
- 16:08Speaker 1: lower your standards or do anything different like that. But
- 16:13Speaker 1: but the difference between being yes, I'm I'm tired. I
- 16:18Speaker 1: you know, I did this and I did that, and
- 16:20Speaker 1: I'm burnt out and now I kind of you know,
- 16:23Speaker 1: I need to just give this a rest versus girl,
- 16:28Speaker 1: I've been having all my ideas running through my mind
- 16:31Speaker 1: all day. You know, my feet are tired from me
- 16:38Speaker 1: running through my mind all day. I mean, right, So
- 16:45Speaker 1: that's a little bit different. Be be a little more
- 16:47Speaker 1: productive before you say life, that's that's all I'm saying.
- 16:51Speaker 1: What would have you done lately for yourself? What have
- 16:56Speaker 1: you done for you lately? You know, my old schools
- 16:59Speaker 1: to get it. But yeah, well, what do you think
- 17:03Speaker 1: about the difference between resting and and and avoidance?
- 17:08Speaker 3: I mean, well, you also have to take a second.
- 17:11Speaker 3: You got to step back and apply action of resolution
- 17:15Speaker 3: versus no thought to a resolution. You gotta you gotta sure,
- 17:20Speaker 3: you're applying some type of action. Like even from our
- 17:23Speaker 3: last show with with with clarity comes action.
- 17:29Speaker 1: So when you.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Sit there, you take a step back, you.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Take a look and survey everything that's going on. You
- 17:39Speaker 3: can come up with something versus you just rush into
- 17:43Speaker 3: it and you haven't really caught as much of it
- 17:45Speaker 3: through as you could.
- 17:47Speaker 1: And I actually I love that. Excuse me, I've been
- 17:51Speaker 1: able to kind of apply that to some things in
- 17:53Speaker 1: my life with that clarity comes with action. You know,
- 17:57Speaker 1: it's not necessarily caushing into it, but it's making a
- 18:00Speaker 1: first step. There's been some other things going on in
- 18:03Speaker 1: my life where I've been a little confused, but remembering
- 18:07Speaker 1: with clarity comes action. So shout out to Melissa mone
- 18:11Speaker 1: for that. Yeah, I gotta higher brand. But taking even
- 18:18Speaker 1: a first step to something being like okay, so now
- 18:21Speaker 1: I know what comes next versus I didn't know.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Nothing at all and you just went I like that.
- 18:30Speaker 1: With clarity cosaction. I like that. And even with that,
- 18:37Speaker 1: there is a when we talk about general rest versus avoidance.
- 18:44Speaker 1: So sometimes you just have to kind of you know,
- 18:47Speaker 1: the old and new saying give it to God, kind
- 18:52Speaker 1: of like just having the faith over for your kind
- 18:53Speaker 1: of aspect of it where you can kind of just
- 18:56Speaker 1: go with the flow with things, see how things are
- 18:59Speaker 1: gonna pan out, versus you literally spending wasted energy trying
- 19:05Speaker 1: to go around something. You know. So that's what we
- 19:10Speaker 1: mean by the rest of something, trusting in something, still
- 19:15Speaker 1: actioning something. But you know, I'm kind of seeing where
- 19:21Speaker 1: that goes. How that is, so that fake over fear
- 19:25Speaker 1: is a good factor of resting versus avoidance.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. It's true.
- 19:37Speaker 3: And I mean and I've read an article actually probably
- 19:40Speaker 3: I don't even remember how long ago it was, but
- 19:42Speaker 3: it was like in psychology today, and it actually talked
- 19:46Speaker 3: about the three piece of procrastination, like what we're talking about,
- 19:50Speaker 3: the perfection, pleasing or which is also sometimes place with
- 19:55Speaker 3: the procrastination, and paralysis. Each of those continuous it leads
- 20:00Speaker 3: to the nets, which leave you feeling stuck, unaccomplished, like
- 20:06Speaker 3: you you feel like you haven't done anything because all
- 20:09Speaker 3: of these things have started to take effect and each
- 20:11Speaker 3: one leads to the next one. This is where the
- 20:15Speaker 3: need to please others ties into the failure or the
- 20:20Speaker 3: fear of failure, and it creates that avoidance that we
- 20:23Speaker 3: were just talking about.
- 20:27Speaker 1: You.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Like, even with the first perfectionism, the fear of not
- 20:31Speaker 3: doing something perfect, it's usually geared by or it leads to.
- 20:37Speaker 2: People pleasing.
- 20:41Speaker 1: That's true. That's true because who are you trying to
- 20:44Speaker 1: make it perfect for?
- 20:46Speaker 2: Mm hmmm, right, it's almost down.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Like you're scared to fail for somebody else? Yep, who
- 20:54Speaker 1: are you doing it for? And that typically can cause
- 20:58Speaker 1: being overwhelmed. And if you think about it, like right now,
- 21:02Speaker 1: the way content creation is the way as quickly as
- 21:08Speaker 1: a video a TikTok can be made. Trying to people
- 21:12Speaker 1: please can be very overwhelmed. Depending on how many followers
- 21:16Speaker 1: followers you have, right, Uh, let's just say you've got
- 21:19Speaker 1: a million followers with a million different personalities. Now we
- 21:22Speaker 1: can just go ahead and break it down to a
- 21:24Speaker 1: science and say, you know, a third thinks this and
- 21:26Speaker 1: a third thinks this. You can ration it out if
- 21:29Speaker 1: you want to. But even then, a third of a million,
- 21:33Speaker 1: you know that that's a lot of people pleasing. That's
- 21:37Speaker 1: a lot of ways to pull yourself in different ways
- 21:39Speaker 1: and and not be yourself. And one of the things
- 21:45Speaker 1: that does lead to procrastinating is not being yourself. Now
- 21:53Speaker 1: we're people pleasing and trying to do what everybody needs
- 21:56Speaker 1: us to do. And now we are procrastinating because we
- 22:02Speaker 1: don't have the perfect thing for everybody, or you're trying
- 22:05Speaker 1: to do the perfect.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Thing for everybody, right, yeah, and now we're.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Back to procrastinating, which you know causes the inaction. Now
- 22:16Speaker 1: you're overwhelmed. What do I do? I gotta do this,
- 22:18Speaker 1: and I gotta do this. I told you that there's
- 22:23Speaker 1: sometimes that I think about so many things I have
- 22:25Speaker 1: to do that I'm tired. Like I said, my feet
- 22:29Speaker 1: have been running through my mind.
- 22:31Speaker 3: All day, right, which leads you to paralysis, because now
- 22:36Speaker 3: you've stud the whole perfect idea, and that's where that
- 22:41Speaker 3: toxic cycle begins.
- 22:43Speaker 2: It starts right back there.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, I mean and you say toxic cycle. You
- 22:50Speaker 1: say toxic cycle no, because, like you said, paralysis, because
- 22:54Speaker 1: now I'm here going wait where do I start again?
- 22:59Speaker 1: That's sometime on my content creation days and I tell you,
- 23:04Speaker 1: like you'll call me and say, hey, you know where
- 23:08Speaker 1: you with this and that? And I'm like, I'm thinking, okay,
- 23:12Speaker 1: all right, well be thinking. I high let you a
- 23:14Speaker 1: little bit later, and you know, I catch up with
- 23:16Speaker 1: my day and do other things and then try to
- 23:18Speaker 1: come back to that, like, hey, where you are? Where
- 23:21Speaker 1: are you with that? This is what I've done blah
- 23:23Speaker 1: blah blah. And I'm like, oh, I've done this, Okay,
- 23:24Speaker 1: where are we that with this other thing I was
- 23:28Speaker 1: thinking over? And you know, even with this, it's a
- 23:39Speaker 1: like I said, it can be a toxic cycle. But
- 23:42Speaker 1: there are some hidden benefits of waiting, not procrastinating. Not
- 23:48Speaker 1: to be confused with procrastinating. Okay, I'm just trying to
- 23:50Speaker 1: make it sound better, but there are some benefits to
- 23:55Speaker 1: the hold up. Okay, you know me, I will play
- 23:58Speaker 1: that word dictionary with me and everybody else. It can
- 24:03Speaker 1: help you avoid making hasty decisions, decisions right when you
- 24:07Speaker 1: let a decision kind of simmer for a minute.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:11Speaker 1: You know, if here anything like me, you ain't gonna
- 24:12Speaker 1: discuss it with everybody. So sometimes you need to pray
- 24:15Speaker 1: about it, think about it, kind of see how things
- 24:17Speaker 1: pan out. Also, sometimes it builds character with patience and resilience.
- 24:25Speaker 1: You kind of got to wait on some things.
- 24:27Speaker 2: You sometimes you gotta.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Wait on how some things pan out, and you want
- 24:31Speaker 1: to make sure that you're making the right decisions. Some
- 24:34Speaker 1: things you kind of look at and like I need
- 24:36Speaker 1: to wait to see what's gonna happen with.
- 24:38Speaker 2: This with that no, no, and I get that, I
- 24:41Speaker 2: get that, And you know, I think you had.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Said something about that's where discernment comes in a lot
- 24:48Speaker 1: of times too. You need to know when to give
- 24:51Speaker 1: your energy and when not to. So that does play
- 24:53Speaker 1: a big part.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Yeah, does obedience.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Yes, huge, another show, this show, another show, all the
- 25:01Speaker 1: shows obedience. And you know, also, one of the things
- 25:08Speaker 1: about waiting, not necessarily procrastinating, but just kind of patiently
- 25:15Speaker 1: procrastinating on some things, is that it helps you appreciate
- 25:19Speaker 1: some things even more when you wait on some things.
- 25:24Speaker 1: I am going into some new ventures and I'm gonna
- 25:27Speaker 1: talk about it right now. But there's some things that
- 25:28Speaker 1: I'm trying out, you know, just gonna kind of try out.
- 25:32Speaker 1: And they're some things you have to kind of piece together, right,
- 25:39Speaker 1: you gotta put together. Yeah, And so, like we were saying,
- 25:43Speaker 1: sometimes you have to sit back and look at some things.
- 25:45Speaker 1: And that's what's going on with this. I have to
- 25:48Speaker 1: patiently wait on putting some things and tapping back to
- 25:53Speaker 1: giving some general rest to something versus just avoiding something
- 25:57Speaker 1: right now. On some things I have to give some
- 25:59Speaker 1: general rest. But I can say that probably because I
- 26:03Speaker 1: avoided some things before have led me to why I
- 26:06Speaker 1: got to take a seat. And that's another thing. Don't
- 26:08Speaker 1: miss that that that window jas and I've talked about
- 26:11Speaker 1: that window too. Yeah, you know, you don't want to
- 26:15Speaker 1: miss that that opportunity because then you're on a hustle
- 26:18Speaker 1: and bustle trying to catch up to the next opportunity. Yeah.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Yeah, And I can understand that. I can understand that.
- 26:26Speaker 3: And I mean by patiently waiting, you can it can
- 26:32Speaker 3: reduce the stress and the anxiety if you let it.
- 26:34Speaker 3: So learning to resist that temptation and the immediate rewards
- 26:39Speaker 3: to focus on the long term success, that can give
- 26:42Speaker 3: you a different type of gratification. So I mean sometimes
- 26:46Speaker 3: it's okay, I mean, what are your thoughts on that?
- 26:50Speaker 1: Uh, definitely a different type of gratification. I I'm gonna
- 26:58Speaker 1: just say this that whole Okay, this is what I
- 27:02Speaker 1: did with this. I took this and I placed it
- 27:04Speaker 1: to tomorrow. I mean, now, if you are somebody who
- 27:11Speaker 1: can stick by if I placed it to tomorrow, that
- 27:13Speaker 1: has to get done tomorrow. You know that's good. Some things, again,
- 27:18Speaker 1: you have to wait till tomorrow to get that done.
- 27:22Speaker 2: But then are you going to do it?
- 27:23Speaker 1: So you definitely want to follow up on that. So
- 27:26Speaker 1: I get that. So we've tapped into a little bit
- 27:29Speaker 1: of what procrastination is and how to identify it and
- 27:34Speaker 1: stuff like that, and how sometimes patiently procrastinating can be beneficial, right,
- 27:41Speaker 1: it can kind of work in your benefit as far
- 27:43Speaker 1: as your decision making. But now we need to turn
- 27:48Speaker 1: that patience slash procrastination because we now we need to
- 27:53Speaker 1: turn it into action. We don't want to, you know,
- 27:56Speaker 1: delay gratification too much because sometimes you do deserve that.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Sometimes you do deserve it, and you're holding yourself back,
- 28:05Speaker 1: especially if you've pushed other people up and helped other
- 28:08Speaker 1: people get it, Why isn't it your turn? So make
- 28:12Speaker 1: sure that you're learning that. But now what So now
- 28:15Speaker 1: we want to learn how to stop procrastinating and you
- 28:20Speaker 1: got to do a bit by bit. But it has
- 28:23Speaker 1: shown it has been shown to kind of boost your
- 28:26Speaker 1: motivation and boost your self trust, your mood overall. Because
- 28:30Speaker 1: now we're taking the steps. Like I said, you take
- 28:32Speaker 1: that first step and now you're like, okay, now what's next.
- 28:36Speaker 1: You feel a little more confident that you can keep stepping,
- 28:39Speaker 1: just like a baby who takes baby steps. Yeah, you
- 28:41Speaker 1: gotta take that first step. Even if you want to
- 28:44Speaker 1: take off running at some point, you will never run
- 28:47Speaker 1: if you don't step.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:52Speaker 1: So some of the things that you can do to
- 28:54Speaker 1: turn this patience into action, turn this procrastination. Let's go
- 28:58Speaker 1: ahead and say what it is into action. Is one
- 29:01Speaker 1: of the things that I know that is personal to
- 29:04Speaker 1: me is you got to get up and show up. Yeah,
- 29:08Speaker 1: real cut, clean, show up. If you follow the podcast,
- 29:13Speaker 1: one of my first shows was when I said I
- 29:16Speaker 1: was talking to God about some different things going on
- 29:18Speaker 1: in my life, losing my dad being one of them
- 29:21Speaker 1: earlier this year, and when I asked him, now, what
- 29:23Speaker 1: am I supposed to do? And he said show up?
- 29:27Speaker 1: And again I'm like, show up for who? Because I'm
- 29:31Speaker 1: trying to do some stuff for me while I'm looking
- 29:33Speaker 1: for you. Who am I showing up for? Like I said,
- 29:36Speaker 1: God is real clean cut, show up. So I've been
- 29:41Speaker 1: showing up wherever I can do whatever I can however
- 29:43Speaker 1: I can. Sometimes I need to take that step for
- 29:47Speaker 1: me and not just be running a marathon for other people.
- 29:50Speaker 1: But that's another show. And you know, you gotta take
- 29:55Speaker 1: that position, whatever the time comes, like I said, whenever
- 29:58Speaker 1: it is, whatever you gotta do. Sometimes the greatest thing
- 30:01Speaker 1: and the most important thing you can do is just
- 30:03Speaker 1: taking that first step to showing up.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Yeah, so we definitely want to do that.
- 30:09Speaker 1: For ourselves and other people.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Support your supporters, right yep, yep in the least yep yep.
- 30:18Speaker 3: I mean, and even also do other like small things
- 30:21Speaker 3: to to once you've shown up, you can create find
- 30:27Speaker 3: a simple routine that helps get you moving moving, Like
- 30:30Speaker 3: you said, you're getting out there, You're going places, meeting
- 30:33Speaker 3: new people. You know, you're we've both started working out.
- 30:37Speaker 3: We've challenged each other to you know, do different sets,
- 30:40Speaker 3: and you know, even though we're in different states, we're
- 30:44Speaker 3: challenging each other to work out and do better each day.
- 30:48Speaker 3: So those little things, you know, and of course make
- 30:53Speaker 3: some create some self imposed deadlines, give yourself some time
- 30:57Speaker 3: limits to do some stuff. I know you and I
- 31:00Speaker 3: I've talked about, you know, creating schedules and following it
- 31:04Speaker 3: like we both have been on a recommend you know,
- 31:07Speaker 3: and it does help when you follow that routine, when
- 31:11Speaker 3: you have a written down or even if you have
- 31:13Speaker 3: like a digital journal or hey, jem and I keep
- 31:16Speaker 3: this or paid Google or whoever, keep this in my
- 31:21Speaker 3: calendar so that I know that at this time I
- 31:23Speaker 3: need to do this or whatever I'm doing. So all
- 31:26Speaker 3: those things help to get you out of that patiently
- 31:30Speaker 3: procrastinating stage.
- 31:32Speaker 1: I know.
- 31:32Speaker 3: For me, like you said, you just got to get
- 31:35Speaker 3: up and show up, like even if you don't feel
- 31:37Speaker 3: like doing it. Like I know, there's been so many
- 31:41Speaker 3: mornings where it's like, oh my god, it's four forty five,
- 31:44Speaker 3: I don't feel like working out today. But once I
- 31:47Speaker 3: work out and get it done, I feel so much
- 31:49Speaker 3: better my day. Right, I can think better, you know,
- 31:54Speaker 3: I follow I'm following between I hate it getting up,
- 31:58Speaker 3: getting in the cold and freezing, but once you get
- 32:01Speaker 3: it done, it's done and you're good for the rest
- 32:03Speaker 3: of the day. Like those little things to make things
- 32:07Speaker 3: better in your life. So you got to take those step.
- 32:11Speaker 1: And one of the things that you just said is
- 32:13Speaker 1: that I don't feel like going, but then I feel better.
- 32:17Speaker 1: And we talk a lot about feelings, right, we don't
- 32:19Speaker 1: let our feelings get in the way of our purpose.
- 32:21Speaker 1: So it's okay to feel it's not okay to stay
- 32:25Speaker 1: there and let it get in away your purpose. Yes, so,
- 32:29Speaker 1: and that's a big part of procrastination. Sometimes you don't
- 32:32Speaker 1: know that it is getting in a way of your
- 32:34Speaker 1: purpose because you don't know your purpose. The point is
- 32:37Speaker 1: get out there what I think Jessie and I have
- 32:39Speaker 1: talked about it before, and I've said it in the
- 32:41Speaker 1: podcast before too, where God has said that he wants
- 32:46Speaker 1: me to be a bridge, not a bitch. I want
- 32:50Speaker 1: when people see you and meet you and they know
- 32:51Speaker 1: who you are, I want them to know that you
- 32:54Speaker 1: are somebody who can lead them to something, not somebody
- 32:56Speaker 1: who's just gonna sit on some stuff. And now, even
- 32:59Speaker 1: on the flip side to that, I can probably lead
- 33:03Speaker 1: a herd to watter yep, and then I'd be thirsty.
- 33:09Speaker 1: And then I don't drink, if you get what I'm saying.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Yeah, because I feel like, no, no, no, y'all could drink.
- 33:17Speaker 1: I'll be okay. I'm gonna wait till the next stop, patient, patient,
- 33:22Speaker 1: I can wait till the next stop. I just want
- 33:23Speaker 1: to make sure everybody all right. Cool, but definitely, and
- 33:30Speaker 1: the self imposed deadline. I like that. I like that
- 33:33Speaker 1: because one of the things that I use that for
- 33:35Speaker 1: myself laundry, laundry.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Off off top laundry.
- 33:41Speaker 1: I I'm not gonna say I dread it because that
- 33:44Speaker 1: just sounds like I don't like to do housework, but
- 33:46Speaker 1: I do. Laundry is my least favorite, right, so I
- 33:52Speaker 1: do do a self imposed deadline, like I'll see what
- 33:55Speaker 1: time it is or whatever, and go all right, let
- 33:57Speaker 1: me see if you can do this. Talk to myself, right,
- 33:59Speaker 1: let me see it. You can just knock this out
- 34:01Speaker 1: real quick, in like fifteen minutes, Like it doesn't take
- 34:04Speaker 1: all day to do nothing. No nothing. You can only
- 34:08Speaker 1: do a load at a time unless you don't went
- 34:10Speaker 1: to the washhouse. And then I get it. And then
- 34:12Speaker 1: those are the ones that are excused by me. I
- 34:14Speaker 1: get it. Okay, you go to the washhouse, you got
- 34:17Speaker 1: like you just gonna do it for the week. I'm
- 34:21Speaker 1: gonna tell you, don't leave that laundry, Matt without folding
- 34:23Speaker 1: that laundry. Dude, you take that laundry home, you're gonna
- 34:30Speaker 1: be picking drink it out, wrinkled clothes. I was just
- 34:32Speaker 1: come on, like you might get that first week out
- 34:35Speaker 1: with don't leave that laundry, Matt. And I understand why
- 34:38Speaker 1: my mom did that with me and my brothers and
- 34:40Speaker 1: my sisters. Like when I drop y'all off, by the
- 34:43Speaker 1: time I pick it up, pick y'all up, the laundry
- 34:45Speaker 1: should be folded.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Yep. I just want to put it away when I
- 34:49Speaker 2: get home.
- 34:49Speaker 1: You know why, because that takes away from the time
- 34:51Speaker 1: we need to be doing at home. So the time
- 34:53Speaker 1: that my mom allotted or we allot ourselves to do
- 34:57Speaker 1: laundry is for that so that we can move on
- 35:00Speaker 1: to something else. Doesn't delay the process, right, all right, Sorry,
- 35:04Speaker 1: we don't want to get all into that, but that
- 35:06Speaker 1: was really good. So, like I said, we've talked about
- 35:10Speaker 1: what procrastination is. We talked about defining it. We've talked
- 35:13Speaker 1: about knowing who's wearing the shoe right, We've talked about
- 35:17Speaker 1: some benefits that can be from procrastinating or just patiently procrastinating.
- 35:24Speaker 1: And we've talked about how to kind of get some
- 35:26Speaker 1: things into action, some of the things that you can
- 35:28Speaker 1: do to kind of get moving. Always always and first, first,
- 35:33Speaker 1: and always take the step. I don't care what it is.
- 35:39Speaker 1: And man, this hit me so hard this evening. Y'all
- 35:43Speaker 1: will have to excuse me because I'm gonna take all
- 35:46Speaker 1: of this advice and all of this stuff myself, and
- 35:51Speaker 1: so you might see a different meat because I have
- 35:54Speaker 1: been letting some of my flings and in the way
- 35:56Speaker 1: of my purposes. I have been told to do some
- 35:59Speaker 1: things and feel a little freeer with who I am
- 36:01Speaker 1: and what I do. And I've been patiently waiting for
- 36:05Speaker 1: that perfect moment. Bless trust me. Me and God we
- 36:08Speaker 1: talk a lot, you know. I mean, he don't talk
- 36:11Speaker 1: much because he said he said what he said, I
- 36:13Speaker 1: am who I am, and I said, I am said
- 36:17Speaker 1: what I told you to do? Yeah.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Done.
- 36:21Speaker 1: That's where I'm at. So at this point, he's getting
- 36:24Speaker 1: a little tougher the love. The love is getting tougher,
- 36:28Speaker 1: and it's time to just do what you called to do.
- 36:31Speaker 1: You covered and called to do what you need to do.
- 36:34Speaker 1: So uh, before we bring this to a close, there
- 36:38Speaker 1: is a lot of approach to procrastination. You can inject
- 36:41Speaker 1: a little bit of humor into your day when you're
- 36:44Speaker 1: struggling with some procrastination, because humor reminds us of our
- 36:49Speaker 1: common humanity that we will procrastinate. We will have some
- 36:55Speaker 1: fears and securities and stuff like that. Right, how normal
- 36:58Speaker 1: it is to procrastinate. But it will will pass. It
- 37:01Speaker 1: will pass if that's what you wanted to do. So
- 37:07Speaker 1: I found a couple of quotes that I thought was
- 37:09Speaker 1: kind of funny, and then we'll go ahead and wrap
- 37:11Speaker 1: this up. I just want you guys to kind of
- 37:12Speaker 1: think of some things. And you know, as funny as
- 37:14Speaker 1: these quotes may seem, they are real, you know, and
- 37:19Speaker 1: I do approve these messages. So tomorrow is often the
- 37:25Speaker 1: busiest day of the week. Tomorrow is often the busiest
- 37:31Speaker 1: day a week. I keep putting it off and then
- 37:32Speaker 1: now I can't get to that. I got too much
- 37:34Speaker 1: to do today when it's but it's tomorrow, and that's
- 37:39Speaker 1: when you're supposed to do that. The sooner I fall behind,
- 37:44Speaker 1: the more time I have to catch up. Okay, okay.
- 37:56Speaker 1: One of my favorites, because I talk about crunch time
- 37:58Speaker 1: a lot, here's one of my favorites. I do my
- 38:01Speaker 1: work at the same time each day, at the last minute.
- 38:06Speaker 1: I'm sure my procrastination is I told you perfect, And
- 38:11Speaker 1: there's no such thing as perfect, right, perfect patient, patient procrastinator,
- 38:17Speaker 1: because my procrastination is structured, thank you very much. When
- 38:20Speaker 1: I put it off, I make sure I put it
- 38:22Speaker 1: off at a certain time that I can put it
- 38:24Speaker 1: off again. Just kidding, just kidding, don't use that, Yeah,
- 38:31Speaker 1: cal that I really wanted to share though. Procrastination taught
- 38:36Speaker 1: me how to do thirty minutes of work in eight hours,
- 38:39Speaker 1: and eight hours of work in thirty minutes. When you
- 38:46Speaker 1: say make it makes sense, I'm gonna say it again
- 38:48Speaker 1: just in case you don't catch it, and then you're
- 38:50Speaker 1: gonna have to catch it at the replay. Procrastination has
- 38:54Speaker 1: taught me to do thirty minutes of work in eight hours,
- 39:00Speaker 1: and eight hours of working thirty minutes crunch time.
- 39:05Speaker 2: And this is one that.
- 39:07Speaker 1: This is one that somebody wanted me to throw in,
- 39:10Speaker 1: and I'm cool with this one. This was kind of cool.
- 39:13Speaker 1: If you wait until the last minute, then it'll only
- 39:16Speaker 1: take a minute to do I should have threw that
- 39:20Speaker 1: in in the benefits of waiting, because I mean the
- 39:23Speaker 1: last minute, then I could do it real quick. Right.
- 39:26Speaker 2: Where'd you get this? Like a kid's joke book?
- 39:32Speaker 1: This works for some, it doesn't work for all. Hey,
- 39:35Speaker 1: if you're either gonna wear it and be comfortable with it,
- 39:39Speaker 1: or you're gonna take it off, Okay, And that's what
- 39:41Speaker 1: the spot the show was really coming about. I will
- 39:45Speaker 1: pull some follow up things because I still got some
- 39:47Speaker 1: more jokes for you folks at bars, So I still
- 39:52Speaker 1: want to follow up on this because again, like I
- 39:55Speaker 1: told you stop that is but no, it's like I said,
- 40:04Speaker 1: this really hit hard for me. And you know, Jazz
- 40:07Speaker 1: and I have had this thing where threes have come
- 40:09Speaker 1: up in our lives, and we joked about it years
- 40:12Speaker 1: ago when we were talking about taking a trip and
- 40:14Speaker 1: it was three months away and we were like, Okay,
- 40:17Speaker 1: we got three months, but we know that three months
- 40:19Speaker 1: can turn into three weeks, that can turn into three
- 40:21Speaker 1: days and then three hours before we have to board
- 40:23Speaker 1: the plane. So we we're just joking around in that
- 40:26Speaker 1: and ironically it's really not a joke because now we
- 40:30Speaker 1: both have things going on in our lives. What this
- 40:32Speaker 1: is now probably like four years later, right, and and
- 40:37Speaker 1: the threes are coming up. We're you know, went from
- 40:40Speaker 1: three months, the three weeks, the three days, and I'm
- 40:44Speaker 1: really talking to Jazzy's on the three day mission, and
- 40:47Speaker 1: I hope we get to follow up with her to
- 40:49Speaker 1: make sure that her journey was wonderful and safe and
- 40:53Speaker 1: that that three days really came to fruition like we
- 40:56Speaker 1: prayed and manifested. So luck on your journey. We're not
- 41:00Speaker 1: you know, do that yet, but I hope to have
- 41:03Speaker 1: you back on the next show. If not, I know
- 41:05Speaker 1: it's because you are working things out.
- 41:07Speaker 2: So we will just look on that.
- 41:10Speaker 1: And I want to thank everybody for joining Shining and
- 41:13Speaker 1: Jazzy with today on the Patient Procrastinator. I hope you
- 41:17Speaker 1: learned some things. Reach on, teach many. If you didn't
- 41:20Speaker 1: really catch some things, remember to play that back. I
- 41:23Speaker 1: will be playing the replay so you can catch that
- 41:25Speaker 1: and catch me in Jazzy and again, I salute you,
- 41:28Speaker 1: Jazzy and everything that you're gonna do. Take these three
- 41:30Speaker 1: days and take off. Okay, everybody, continue to follow us again.
- 41:37Speaker 1: I'll be posting the replay in some ways to follow
- 41:39Speaker 1: us and join us next time on Bad to Business.
- 41:42Speaker 3: I am Shining.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Love y'all have a good weekend.
