- 0:02You'll be proud of me. I did something very Australian the last few days. Did
- 0:06you? Well, I played two up. Oh, yes. It was Anzac Day. Yes.
- 0:12Welcome to Multiple Nerdgasm with your
- 0:16hosts Matt, Luke, and Dan. Multiple
- 0:21Nerdgasm, your guide to all things
- 0:27nerdy. Antic day yesterday here. So today's
- 0:33Saturday. So yes, happy day. I've never played it before.
- 0:38Okay. And I knew the basic idea behind it, but now I understand the rules. I
- 0:44know that I have, but I was just thinking now I don't remember how it
- 0:48works at all. Like I remember the basics of it. Like there's three coins on a
- 0:52ruler essentially. Yeah. And then you bet with people in the crowd. And if two
- 0:57or more turn up heads, heads wins. If two or more tails, then tails wins. But
- 1:02I do know the reason why it's only sort of legal for one day a year. Yeah. So
- 1:06for non-Australian listeners, this is a like you can just gamble in the streets
- 1:10doing this game one day every year. It's it's [ __ ] illegal any other time.
- 1:15Yes. Because the government you can't tax it. Like there's no way to make
- 1:19money off it. But also it can lead to a lot of fights because there is a lot of
- 1:23the honor system in this. But it's so Australian that you're allowed to do it
- 1:27on Ant. Yeah. Cuz if your heads if you're betting heads and people are
- 1:32betting like $50 hundreds of dollars for this and they're betting against someone
- 1:37whose tails they just hand the money to the person whose tails and the person
- 1:40whose tails holds that money in their hand, right? And then spin comes and
- 1:44it's just the honest support. No, it's heads you get it back or tails I keep
- 1:48it. Yeah. Right. And there were times where like I could have people just
- 1:51handed me money. I had it in my hand cuz I was tail. You could just run off. Bug it off
- 1:56cuz Yeah. But that was actually quite a bit of fun. I'm going to actually try and do it
- 2:02a bit more next year. Yes. Only one day the price of it gone up.
- 2:09The How come the price of random street gambling have gone up? Well, I don't
- 2:12know. I remember like I've done it before in the past and I've seen people
- 2:15and people used to like save up their $5 notes to get ready for it. Now it's now
- 2:21it's hundos. Yeah. Bets was starting at 50. [ __ ] hell. All right. Where'd you
- 2:26do it? Like RSL club or something? I know. At a pub. Just a pub. Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:30Okay. I could have walked down to the RSL or one of the other three pubs on
- 2:34the street that had it. Yeah. Yeah. It's so funny that that's a thing. I forget
- 2:40that. I forget that's like a weird annoy. It is very strange. Like it's
- 2:44just it's just a thing they do in Australia where legalize this one
- 2:49specific type of gambling on one day every year. Next year I'm going to try
- 2:53and spin the coins cuz I actually understand how that works now. Okay. So
- 2:57when you go into the center to spin, you're actually putting money down. And
- 3:02the idea is that you're saying you're going to spin heads three times in a
- 3:05row. And the second you spin tails, you're out. Yeah. So what will happen is
- 3:09you put say 50 down. someone else has to put 50 against you and then the next
- 3:14time around you just have that same 50 in. So you get heads the first time they
- 3:18then put a 100 in the next time and then you put nothing more in and then on the
- 3:23third one someone's got to put 200 in. Right. And then you just if you get head
- 3:27three times in a row it's all yours. Okay. I don't want to do that once because
- 3:33that seems a cheaper way to play. And to to be clear that's not what Anzac
- 3:38Day is about technically. No, Australian New Zealand Army Corps. Yes. It's like
- 3:44memorialize soldiers who died at war at war. Yeah. For I think it was like
- 3:48originally for World War I, I believe. Right.
- 3:53The Great War. The Great War. Great War. The Great War that was going to end all
- 3:57wars before we got a sequel. Yeah. And they renamed the Great War to World War
- 4:02I. Yeah. Because, you know, Yes. World
- 4:06War I episode one. Yeah. Uh, New Kaiser and that's where George Lucas got the
- 4:11idea from. That's right. Just go back and rename stuff. That's where George
- 4:15Lucas got the idea for World War II. Yeah. So, yeah. Cool. That was my weekend or
- 4:22my day off yesterday. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Long weekend, I assume. We got two long
- 4:27weekends in a row. We don't get as many long weekends here. We don't love
- 4:31holidays as much as Australia does over here. Especially religious holidays.
- 4:35We've talked about this. Yeah. Like you'll get like you get like one
- 4:38religious holiday and that's just Christmas day, isn't it? Right. Yeah.
- 4:42Exactly. And um because in a Easter for listeners who aren't in Australia or
- 4:47maybe this is British thing as well. That's probably where we get it from.
- 4:50But like in Australia, Easter is like a 4-day weekend. Friday and Monday off. We
- 4:56get Good Friday, Easter Monday. Like it's Yeah. The whole thing. Nothing.
- 5:00Nothing. Which it's so it doesn't make much sense to me because it's I forget
- 5:04every year. Can't start. When's Easter? Oh, [ __ ] yeah. Oh, wait. No, I mean, but
- 5:09the thing is you celebrate Easter over there. Yeah, of course. Like, it's a big
- 5:14thing. Yeah. Yeah. Especially Yeah. Yeah. It's still a big thing. It's not a
- 5:19big big thing. The big holidays here are uh Independence Day, July 4th. That's
- 5:25the big holiday, I would say. Like, that's the one everyone's like, "Fuck
- 5:28yeah, we're awesome." America. Yeah, that's a that's a good time. Yeah. Um
- 5:34and uh I guess Christmas um you got don't you? We like we have
- 5:40all those and like um there's a there's a holiday just here in Rhode Island.
- 5:46It's the only state that still celebrates uh victory over Japan day.
- 5:52Uh all the other states were like nah Rhode Island's keeping that strong.
- 5:57It's not a holiday, not like a day off, but it's No, it's sort of weird. Like,
- 6:00you even have like an Easter egg hunt at the White House type of thing. Like,
- 6:04it's Easter. Yeah. That's the other thing, too, is the traditions here is
- 6:07different, right? You get presents at Easter here. What? Um Yeah. Right. So,
- 6:12they don't We don't chocolate eggs not really a thing, right? The eggs You
- 6:16actually paint real eggs, don't you? Yeah. Or they're little plastic eggs
- 6:20with stuff in them. And it could be candy or little toys or whatever. And
- 6:26that's what you hide around. You don't hide chocolate eggs like in Australia.
- 6:28In Australia, all the eggs are chocolate. Listen. Yeah. Basically all
- 6:32of the eggs. Uh and you get [ __ ] big ones. Like big chocolate eggs. Don't
- 6:37have those here. Um Yeah. And so and you get a basket is
- 6:42the main thing you get from the Easter Bunny. And the basket will have like
- 6:46candy and eggs and stuff like that, but like toys and things. Okay. It's like
- 6:51it's like Christmas, too. So, are you doing that or Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Yep.
- 6:57We're obliged to legally obliged to do that for LRA. So Yep. Yeah. Well, it' be
- 7:01sort of weird not to when she'd go to school and that's Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I we
- 7:06like, you know, I would mix in I mean, right now she doesn't give a [ __ ] But I
- 7:10will mix in some Australian stuff. Like I tried to get um some Cadbury eggs, but
- 7:15I couldn't get them. So I have to Let me know next year. I'll get you some. Yeah.
- 7:18Cheers. I was Yeah, I have to plan better for that. And a big chocolate
- 7:22bunny. You need a big chocolate bunny. You get little chocolate bunnies. You
- 7:24can get lint ones that Oh, no. You don't want fancy. You want the terrible
- 7:28chocolate. I know, but they don't have them here. You can only get the fancy
- 7:32ones. And I think the only reason they even exist is cuz they're like foreign
- 7:35and in, you know, like they I think you just they're like European ones. So,
- 7:39yeah. No, no, you need the terrible chocolate ones.
- 7:43Yeah. Yes. I was trying to get um what was I trying to get? I found there is an
- 7:49Australian like lolly thing website that will get stuff. It's [ __ ] expensive
- 7:54though. Yeah. Yeah. And it's a sh It's also because if
- 7:58you're going to do an order from there, you're going to sort of bit a bit of
- 8:00weight. So it's also the shipping also becomes expensive as well. Yeah. Cuz if
- 8:04I'm going to get it, I'm going to get a bunch of stuff
- 8:07like party mix and stuff. I can buy a few pounds of runs and yes, I'll get
- 8:11that and then I'll get something else. And then I looked at the shipping and I
- 8:14went, "Oh, a few pounds of runs is expensive to ship." Yes. Which sucks.
- 8:19I'll do it one day. I'll do it for my birthday next year. I'll have to do like
- 8:23a like a treats swap or something. Yes. Cuz I'm sure there's stuff here that you
- 8:28want. And I I reckon we meet in Hawaii one year. We do a treat swap there.
- 8:32That'd be [ __ ] good. Yeah. Yeah. Just two suitcases. One is just full of
- 8:38No. Well, you don't want chocolate from here. You want um No, you want It's It's
- 8:42also It's to do with like the sugar and also the heat, isn't it? Well, I believe
- 8:47there's a reason there was there's enzyme. [ __ ] what is it? Either they
- 8:51put it they leave it in or they take it out. There's some enzyme in the
- 8:54chocolate and it's the uh Hang on. Let me check. Which is why our chocolate
- 8:59tastes better even though I don't like chocolate. Yeah. Chocolate
- 9:05enzyme America. It's Yeah, there's something different about it. Yeah.
- 9:10Protein. Come on. American chocolate tastes weird. What do we got here? What
- 9:14do we got here? due to a substance called butyric acid that is often added
- 9:18they add it to American chocolate for some reason. So you could
- 9:23just not add it and have good chocolate I guess so. Yeah. And it's just Here we
- 9:28go. Why do they add it to chocolate here and not anywhere else? Uh it's a cheaper
- 9:32method of manufacturing chocolate. It's milk preser. It's literally a cheap product and
- 9:38Hershey's puts it in the chocolate and that's become what
- 9:42people that's the taste of chocolate here. So, and I think it's kind of gross. I
- 9:48mean, I've gotten used to it, I suppose, cuz I don't notice it so much, but Yeah.
- 9:52Yeah. But then I get um Yeah, if you get like real stuff. Yeah. There's like a
- 9:57place called Ocean State Job Lot up the road and they have like like wholesale
- 10:01stuff and you can get like you know Milka like the the probably like a Austrian or German
- 10:08chocolate and I've bought one of those there and been like oh my god it tastes
- 10:13so [ __ ] good cuz it doesn't chocolate's meant to be. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And if I get some
- 10:19Cadbury and just cuz it's like why it's the taste of chocolate that I know like
- 10:25I grew up with. It's I'm sure if I grew up here I'd feel differently about it. I
- 10:29don't know. I've heard that even Americans say that they prefer
- 10:34definitely there are Americans who prefer it. Yeah. I just don't know if
- 10:37everybody would. I just need runs and
- 10:41candy corn. A candy corn. Okay. I don't Well, it's the same thing with runs. I
- 10:46just eat so much of it, it makes me sick. And the same with candy corn. And
- 10:49I can't stop eating either of them. Candy corn is [ __ ] weird. All right.
- 10:52I mean, that's easy. That's like a dollar for a giant bag of it cuz it's
- 10:56literally just sugar formed into it. $10
- 11:00for like 150 g or something. Really? Yeah.
- 11:05Okay. It's not fair. Oh, should we let people know that um Dan's not here? They
- 11:11may have figured that out. Maybe they thought maybe he was just had he just
- 11:14has nothing to say about any of this. Yep. No, no, he's not here. He's uh he's
- 11:20on vacation, I assume. He's on the other side of Australia, I believe. Yeah. He
- 11:26wanted to get as far away from you as possible without leaving the country.
- 11:30Mhm. And that's how that's how you do it. Yeah. Oh, I have to tell you
- 11:34something sucked about Anzac Day here. Go on. Just in New South Wales,
- 11:39supermarkets and bottle shops were not open at all. Oh, at all on that day.
- 11:44Okay. Yeah. Every other state they opened at like 12:01 and then at New
- 11:48South Wales brought in something last year and it was just I only found out on
- 11:51the day and I had no food in the house and I was going to go shopping that day.
- 11:54Huh. And it was just a little annoying. Just completely shut. Yep. Like so I had
- 12:01to go thing that's different here and maybe times have changed. I think I
- 12:05would have trouble switching back to this, but when we were growing up in
- 12:09particular, tell me this is different now. I don't think it was that different
- 12:13when I left. Shops in Australia are open from 8 or
- 12:199:00 a.m. to 5 or 6:00 p.m. Yeah. Except Thursdays when it's late night shopping
- 12:24and they're open till 9 or 10. Is that still the case? Each state does have a a
- 12:28different late night shopping night. Most of them it's Thursday. In CRA, it's
- 12:31Friday nights late night shopping. But yeah, it's the same. sort of like it's
- 12:34only 9 to 5 but 5:30 cuz here man shops
- 12:40are just open from like 6:00 a.m. to [ __ ] midnight. Like I know like
- 12:46shopping centers like Wworth and stuff they'll be open till like 11 and stuff
- 12:49but yeah just a normal retail they're like pretty much 9 to 5. No I'm I was
- 12:55just thinking I I I'm used to that now. Like I could just go if it's [ __ ] 10
- 13:00p.m. and I want to go buy pants, I'll just go to Nordstrom and they're open
- 13:04like depending on the day. 24-hour Kmarts, I think. But yeah, that's about
- 13:08it. Yeah. Yeah, cuz that's right cuz Kmart and Broadway was the place you'd
- 13:12go if it was late at night and you needed to get something. Yeah. And it
- 13:16might be different in this It might be different in Sydney. They might stay
- 13:19open later, but I just wondered if they changed it. But yeah. Yeah. I know in
- 13:23CRA where there's no one here, so they be crazy for them to stay open. and
- 13:28serve no one. Yeah. I was just thinking late night shopping, that's not a thing here cuz
- 13:32that's just every day. It's just every day is late night. Yeah. And then like
- 13:36even when it's a holiday stuff's open. Yeah. Like Yeah. No, bank holiday. They
- 13:41have bank holidays. But it's just weird here. It was just uh Yeah. Normally they
- 13:46used to open late, which was always fine. Yeah. She She's not opening at
- 13:51all. That's weird. I was I had beer, so I was happy, but I still went to the pub
- 13:56for lunch and dinner and just stayed
- 13:57there. But yeah, I had to eat. Yeah.
- 14:03So, I had uh I wouldn't say excitement, some disappointment the other night. Switched
- 14:09two pre-orders when happened the other night here in the United States at
- 14:14midnight the other night. Okay. On the 24th 4th. Yeah. Midnight like the olden
- 14:20days except on the internet. Like the old days was more fun. I remember we we
- 14:24used to go to EB Games at midnight for the launch of things. Yeah. But it was
- 14:27to receive the game, not to pre-order it. That's right. Yeah. I remember the
- 14:32pre-orders they went on the Wii launch. Yeah. They were like
- 14:36um here if you're doing a pre-order and it it's a time thing, it'll be like
- 14:4010:00 in the morning or something like it when everyone's on. Yeah. Right. No,
- 14:44see that's saying back in the day it was fun like the Wii watched and we all went
- 14:48to um well I went to [ __ ] what's the shopping center near Dan? Um
- 14:54it's a big shopping center in Right. Yeah, I know. I was first in line at the
- 14:58Sydney EB like the Sydney City. Yeah. Yeah. Right. That's right. You went to
- 15:02the city and I also went to a couple of Halo launches and they were like super
- 15:07fun. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's good stuff. And uh you'd line up outside EB Games
- 15:12and they would, you know, let people in the roll the door one at a time. Yeah.
- 15:16Well, anyway, so this happened on the internet and um my experience was I
- 15:20wasn't sure if I was even going to get one, but I was like, well, let's have a
- 15:24look. Yeah. So, I stayed up and I had the Walmart app open. Yeah. Looking at
- 15:31the Switch, too, and it just said not available yet. Yeah. and you refresh
- 15:34every now and again, right? At midnight, I refresh and the app crashes. And I was
- 15:40like, "Oh, fuck." So, I reopen the app
- 15:44and instantly it says, uh, you know those things where it's like prove
- 15:49you're not a robot and you have to like hold the button, not like a recapture,
- 15:52but you got to hold the button or whatever. And it just kept doing that
- 15:55over and over and over again. And I was like, "Oh, God's sake." So, I I'm like,
- 15:58"Okay." So, I opened the website instead of the app. And uh the website mostly
- 16:04functions, but as soon as you try and go to a switch two page, same thing happens
- 16:08and it shits the bed. So I was like, well that's not working, is it? And then
- 16:13it was like it was it was like now I have to have one. Like you know what I
- 16:19mean? Like it went from like it went from let's just have a look to now like
- 16:25I have to have one. So, I went to um the Best Buy website
- 16:31and that also they were just not available on there and I I found out
- 16:35later they [ __ ] up the timing or something, but anyway, it doesn't
- 16:38matter. Couldn't I would probably wouldn't have got one anyway. Um and
- 16:42then I went to GameStop, same thing. Couldn't couldn't get the page to load
- 16:46or anything like that. So, then I went to target.com. Y um and they had them
- 16:51and I got one had one in my cart trying to check out literally [ __ ]
- 16:57trying to check out. I've got my credit card in there and I'm just [ __ ]
- 16:59submitting the order over and over and over again and every time it's like
- 17:02something has gone wrong and I'm trying everything. I'm trying like just putting
- 17:05my card in hitting submit trying um Apple Pay on my phone like just the open
- 17:10Apple Pay just [ __ ] pay on there and it would open up the Apple Pay screen
- 17:13and I'd be like yes let's go and then it would say no something went wrong. That
- 17:18went on for maybe 10 minutes and I was like, "Ah, [ __ ] it. I'm going to bed."
- 17:22Yeah. Um, and I'm glad I did because as per uh the article we've got in here and
- 17:29other articles, apparently that continued for hours for people because
- 17:33it's not it's you're not really competing against the other people.
- 17:36You're competing against the scammers and their bots. And even if their bots
- 17:40aren't working because of like the whole the button thing, they're still just
- 17:43hammering the site. And even if you managed to place an order, all of the
- 17:49retailers cancelled a bunch of them anyway because they sold more than they
- 17:54actually had. So it was it's basically it was a [ __ ] disaster. And if you
- 17:58got one, congratulations. Do you want me to pre-order you one now? No, no, no,
- 18:03no. Okay, cuz I can do it right now from JB Hi-Fi. I could do it right now.
- 18:07Really? I can check Hit check out button right now. All right, let me try this.
- 18:12Let me go to walmart.com. Uh, yeah. Actually, I've ga take it out
- 18:16of my cart because I have purchased stuff by accident before. Accident.
- 18:23All right. Pre-order. All right. Switch to Mario with Mario Kart. That's Mario. Yeah.
- 18:29Pre-order. Remove. Remove. Remove. Okay. Now, when I click pre-order, it doesn't
- 18:34say anything on the product page, but on when I click it, it says, "We're sorry.
- 18:37This item is demand, and we can't add it to your cart right now." M. So, I think
- 18:42maybe they still haven't even figured out if they have enough. So, anyway, I
- 18:46did not I did not pre-order a Switch, too. Not for lack of trying, but I was
- 18:50not able to. I'll probably end up doing the same thing I did with the original
- 18:54Switch. I'll just wander in the day of and go, if they've got one, I'll get
- 18:57one, and if they don't, I don't care. And then not play it. Yeah. So, there's
- 19:03still the the Nintendo pre-orders haven't happened yet. They happen later.
- 19:07I don't know why. Uh, but there's so the the process for that was you could if
- 19:11you go to the Nintendo website and you're logged in, if you have
- 19:16a Switch online account with a certain number of hours of play time over the
- 19:22last few months, then you can click a button or I guess maybe you can click
- 19:26the button anyway and then they'll just check all that stuff later. But then
- 19:30anyway, if you meet this criteria, they will send you an email when their
- 19:34pre-orders go up. Yep. And you'll be given the opportunity to pre-order. So,
- 19:37they're kind of controlling it that way. So, that's still going to happen. And I
- 19:40have registered for that. Yeah, that that should be good cuz that's you're
- 19:43not going to be competing against um scalpers there. Yeah, because they'd
- 19:46have to have met the criteria. Yeah. And they'll meet on one account and not
- 19:50they're not going to be able to meet on multiple. So, scalpers are everything
- 19:53now. I know. They're already on eBay for like 700 bucks. The [ __ ] are they?
- 19:58They're not selling the not selling units, selling the pre-order itself.
- 20:02Yep. Which is [ __ ] annoying. And eBay's eBay don't care. They just get
- 20:06money out of it. Yeah. Yep.
- 20:10Yeah. So anyway, yeah, switched to pre-orders like and then uh I felt less
- 20:16bad about it cuz even like the Verge had an article and like staff members and
- 20:20people like uh like uh like Jeff Keley I think said he couldn't get one and I was
- 20:25like well if these people couldn't get one I'm glad I went to bed. I'm
- 20:28surprised he's not someone who goes here's your give me one. Yeah. Yeah. like cuz
- 20:34he's Yeah, he's one of the people who should just be getting a free one. We
- 20:38should be one of the ones getting a free one. The way I talk about Switch all the
- 20:43time. That thing I never play. Maybe it'll be at PAX and I'll ask for
- 20:47Actually, I don't know if Nintendo's even going to be there. We'll see. Oh,
- 20:49yeah. I'm not going to be here. Oh, not next week. The week after.
- 20:54The week after. Okay. This time to discuss that. But yeah, uh there was
- 20:58also I saw this week people laughing about the fact that there had been a lot
- 21:04of backlash about the price uh in particular the price of the games and
- 21:09there were a lot of people saying no one's going to buy this. Nintendo has
- 21:13[ __ ] dropped the ball or whatever. Turns out they're wrong. They are buying
- 21:17it and they've bought all of them and it's it's going quite well. like they're
- 21:21just the really the first ones to really be upping their prices. That's been
- 21:26coming for a very long time. Yeah. Cuz I heard uh on a tech podcast I listened
- 21:31to, they were talking about it and like I hadn't considered this, but like if
- 21:36you look at the price of games over time compared to like inflation. Well,
- 21:42they've never been cheaper than they are right now. This is the cheapest games
- 21:46have been if you compensate for inflation thing. And it's kind of it's
- 21:50it's actually quite strange that they not more expensive already. So
- 21:55yeah, I think we might just have to when I grew up like playing getting a Sega
- 21:59Mega Drive game that was $100, right? To buy a brand new game today is $100. Like
- 22:05it's that's 30 years where it didn't really It's not like they're getting
- 22:10cheaper to make. They keep Yeah. So I think we can expect this
- 22:16to become normal. Yeah, I think going to be 80 or $80 is the price here that
- 22:21everyone's [ __ ] crying about. I'm really interested to see how much um
- 22:25Grand Theft Auto 6 is going to be. Yeah, right. They can kind of sell it for
- 22:30whatever they want. Yeah. Like within reason. Within reason. I reckon that's
- 22:35going to I think that'll be more expensive than 80. Yeah. Right. Yep.
- 22:40Hyundai. Yep. With how how well everyone's waiting for that game, they
- 22:46can Yeah. They can Yeah. She said, "Chudge whatever they want. People are
- 22:49going to buy it." I'll tell promise you this now, Rockstar. You can price that
- 22:53thing at whatever you like. I'm not going to buy it anyway. So, you can make
- 22:57it $10. I'm not going to buy it. I don't care. Oh, actually, that's not true. If
- 23:01it's $10, I might buy it cuz I'd be like, it would trigger that thing in my
- 23:04brain where I was like, I got to get this before they put the price up. I'm
- 23:08not particularly interested in it. Please don't price it high cuz I am
- 23:12going to buy it. Yeah, cuz I'm actually in the middle of playing Grand Theft
- 23:15Auto 5 yet again and I'm going to play it again. Hang on. Is this because there
- 23:22are achievements or you actually enjoy this game? I enjoy that game. And
- 23:26because there are achievements back, I'm actually looking forward to playing
- 23:29through it again. And they've just it's just come back to Game Pass again and
- 23:34there's two versions of it on PC. Okay. Yeah. Cuz for those who don't
- 23:39know, Luke doesn't play games for enjoyment. plays them to get
- 23:41achievements, which is where my enjoyment comes from. I was going to say
- 23:44he derives enjoyment exclusively from acquiring achievements in games, which
- 23:49is sad, but I'm going back to playing a game that was before I really got into
- 23:54Yes. Um, achievements. I would like to talk about this. So, what have you been
- 23:59playing? I've been playing Oblivion. Okay. Just the old Xbox 360 version. No,
- 24:04I've been playing the remastered version. Uhhuh. This game is
- 24:08pretty. Yeah. Yeah. I've seen some I've played I I got to the character creation
- 24:15screen and then I was like I was like I'm going to only play this.
- 24:21I can tell cuz the even just the music I I I realized I think I played Oblivion
- 24:27more than I played Skyrim to be honest. I played Oblivion a [ __ ] lot back in
- 24:33the day. like, "Yeah, I'm remembering this game now cuz I remember I went
- 24:37through I closed all the Oblivion Gates and just I'm remembering it all now and
- 24:42I'm going, I love this game." I finished this game at least twice, which is not
- 24:46common for me to even finish a game at all. So, like, yeah, as soon as it
- 24:50loaded up and the music started, I was like, "Oh, this is I'm going to be I'm
- 24:56being taken back to and they've even kept bought 360 to play it." They've
- 25:02even kept some of the mistakes in there. Like there's some voice acting mistakes
- 25:05in there. They're still in there. There's a voice actress goes, "Hold on,
- 25:09let me take that line again." And that's still in there. So, it's just they've
- 25:12just updated the graphics. That's funny. Well, they have done I did see in the
- 25:17Well, they said this in the thing, they did re-record voices for nonhuman races
- 25:22because it used to be that um they because of the disc space. This
- 25:28is what they said in the in the little launch video thing that um they didn't
- 25:31have disc space to have completely different voices for all the you know
- 25:36like the kajit and the uh what are the reptile ar what are they called? I can't
- 25:41remember at the moment starts with a I can't remember the lizard. The lizards
- 25:45lizards green kids. Um and the orcs yeah um anyway so but apparently they've got
- 25:52new voices for for those because huge install. Yeah, it's likeund and
- 25:57something gig, right? Yeah. Which I was expecting. Normally with like these
- 26:01games like remaster, they still been quite small, but this is I'm actually
- 26:06excited for them doing Fallout 3, but we'll get to that later. Yeah. Yeah.
- 26:12Yeah. I saw something float up about that. But yeah, so the other interesting
- 26:16thing for me about this is that Oblivion remaster is Unreal Engine 5. So, it's
- 26:22the new Unreal Engine, but it's got the old engine behind the scenes as the
- 26:27puppet master apparently. I don't know how exactly they did this, but I think
- 26:30that's really interesting that the old game is still there. It's still there.
- 26:34That's sort of running everything and
- 26:36handling it and then Unreal with a Yeah.
- 26:41Cool. But no, I do I was not expecting it to be this look this good. It just
- 26:47looks like a new game. Like, yeah. And I think I'm really enjoying this because
- 26:52like Sh's come out quite a few times and we've all played it a few times. Yes.
- 26:56Yes. This is a bit like that, but it's I don't quite remember the story. I don't
- 27:00quite remember the quest. So, it's completely new again. Yeah. It's not
- 27:05like in Skyrim where I start a new game of that and I I'm going to go to right
- 27:09run and here I don't remember any of the names of the cities or anything. Yeah.
- 27:13Right. But I'm already joined the major's guild and the fighters guild.
- 27:17I'm gonna have to That's the thing is as soon as I started I was like I got to
- 27:21the character creation and I was like I'm gonna have to wait because I'm going
- 27:25to abandon every other game. Yeah. If I start this and then maybe I should just
- 27:28do it anyway. It doesn't really matter. I just I was like no no no I kind of
- 27:32want to spend a bit more time in Death Straining which I have done. Oh yes.
- 27:34It's gotten a bit slowed down. Definitely. It does. And that's why you
- 27:39need to be careful with trying to deliver everything. That's I'm going to
- 27:43get [ __ ] bored. Yes. But then when you do progress, you get like the
- 27:47motorbike and I think you get a car. Like it does speed up a little bit. But
- 27:50yeah, I just got a quest where I was like, it said to me, uh, you sure you
- 27:56want to deliver this on foot? It's pretty heavy. And I was like, oh, that
- 27:59might be a hint to not take that yet. Yeah, maybe I can use that bike outside,
- 28:04but I know there's a bike outside the building that I can't use yet. So, I was
- 28:07like, "Oh, okay." Yep. Yep. You want to get the bike and then Yeah. I I do want
- 28:12to go back to that game as well, though. But this is just Oblivion's just so much
- 28:15easier. Yeah, I'm probably going to end up just playing Oblivion.
- 28:20But yeah, cuz I need to become ahead of the fighter skill, the major skill, the
- 28:23thieves guild, the assassin's guild. I need to take over all Grey Wolf. Gray
- 28:26Fox. I mean, gray fox. Grey Wolf. Gray Fox. And then the uh the Brotherhood.
- 28:32Yep. Dark Brotherhood. Dark Brotherhood. I need to do them all again.
- 28:37No, just such a great game. And yeah, and and I'm sure you've
- 28:43seen like Yeah, evidently the same company that did this remaster because
- 28:47this isn't Bethesda Direct. No, they worked with some Virtuos I think or
- 28:53somewhere some company in Paris and evidently they're doing the same thing for Fallout 3.
- 29:00Okay. That's confirmed. I saw there was something about it.
- 29:05It sounds like it was confirmed as much as this was okay. before it dropped.
- 29:10That's the other thing, too, is that that like had this not leaked the week
- 29:16before, this would have just like come out of nowhere. Yep. Cuz and it
- 29:20obviously like all the marketing stuff, they were thinking it was going to come
- 29:23out of nowhere because they did the the video that I watched was this long thing
- 29:26about the tech and all that kind of stuff like I said. Uh and then at the
- 29:30end they were like, "Oh, by the way, it's available now." Now, I was like,
- 29:34"What?" And that's what I that's I honestly think that's what they were
- 29:37aiming for. This was one of their big and you can play it now like they did
- 29:41with Fallout Shelter and how I think they seemed like this. The only reason
- 29:46it didn't happen is cuz the studio that did it put up that gallery on their
- 29:50website early by mistake and someone saw it and it's like ah that's a shame. It
- 29:55is. Stop. Why is my alarm going off? Cuz
- 29:59it's time to wake up and do the podcast. But Fallout 3, I'm pretty sure cuz if
- 30:04they do Fallout 3 and it looks this good. Yeah. Yeah, I'll replay that for sure.
- 30:11Because if they do New Vegas, even better. Oh. Uh, see the only
- 30:17thing is I don't think they do New Vegas. Why? Not really Bethesda. Yeah.
- 30:21Yeah, you're right. Yeah. Oh, yeah. So, so I like I said, I
- 30:26didn't get very far. I just got to character creation there. I I saw in the
- 30:29video that like leveling and some other things are different. How How are you
- 30:34finding that? I you didn't notice. I I thought this was the same where you had
- 30:39to sleep to level up and you're doing the maybe that stuff's the same, but
- 30:44they did they just said they've made some changes, some quality of life
- 30:47changes to leveling and stuff. Okay. I know I'm doing a lot of jumping around
- 30:52at the moment. Okay. So, is it a requirement to leveling to your
- 30:57acrobatics? Yes. So, you got to get your acrobatics up. The only way to do that
- 31:01is really to jump. So you're just jumping everywhere to build that up. And
- 31:04then once that levels up, yeah, you've got your experience bar which goes up
- 31:08when you level up different things. And then you can then sleep and then
- 31:13increase your strength and stuff and Mhm. But yeah, so yeah, at the moment
- 31:18jumping and sneaking everywhere and I've already gone straight to the bow.
- 31:23Ah, don't Okay, I'm I'm going to try not to do that. I I I I already I've I've
- 31:28already strengthened my skill far too much up in the bow and I can't actually
- 31:31attack with anything else at the moment. I'm going to try not to maybe I'll just
- 31:35try and not use a bow at all because that's Oh, that's why you I always do is
- 31:39just end up shooting them with a bow from a distance. Yeah. And even now at
- 31:43the moment, it's actually easier for it's better for me to shoot them with a
- 31:45bow close up because my Oh, that's all
- 31:49we're face. Yes. Over and over. All right.
- 31:56Oh man. Yeah. Get on it. Let's do this. I will. And uh some other news related
- 32:01this week. Uh I think people were curious and probably the makers of this
- 32:06mod were concerned. There's a a mod called Sky Oblivion, which is a a remake
- 32:11of Oblivion being made in the Skyrim engine. Yes. And that's been ongoing for
- 32:17a very long time. And people and the developers worried, are they going to
- 32:20shut us down now? M and Bethesda have come out and said, "No, it's fine. Fine.
- 32:26You're not going to compete with what we just released, so go for it." And yeah,
- 32:29what you're doing is largely pointless now, but uh please proceed. Yeah. Yes.
- 32:34Because I don't know. This looks better than Skyrim to me at the moment. Yeah.
- 32:39And absolutely, from what I've seen. Yeah. I think um
- 32:46Yeah. Cuz it's like it's Unreal Engine 5. It's like and they're using all the
- 32:50new features of the engine. It's just like another another level. Yeah. So
- 32:54like yeah, go make it and that and it's good experience for you. You might
- 33:00get a job out of it, but yeah, play this. Doing mod stuff's good for that.
- 33:05If you want to go well if you want to go become a drone and get worn to a husk.
- 33:12Yes. During crunch, that's a good way to do it. I'm I'm just
- 33:17messing. It's not always like that. I'm sure it depends where you are. I think
- 33:21yeah, there's always going to be crunch. That's I'm going to assume if you work
- 33:25at Bethesda that probably happens, but maybe it's worth it for you. No, but I
- 33:29think what we what sort of I think we spoke about last week like Bethesda's
- 33:34maybe lost that um stay back and work on your own type
- 33:39of stuff to just stay back and work on this. Like they've lost that bit of
- 33:42independence that I think they used to have. Sure. Yeah. I think crunch is one of
- 33:48those probably the most unfortunate thing about the game industry because
- 33:52it's one of those things where it's like the film industry I imag well from what
- 33:57I've seen in the film industry is that you've got people there's a never-
- 34:00ending line of people who love the thing the game or the film or whatever and
- 34:05they want to do it. Yep. And so you could just treat them like [ __ ] and just
- 34:10grind them up and then spit them out the other side and then there's always a
- 34:14thousand more kids who want to work for [ __ ] all work 16our days for [ __ ] all. I
- 34:20sort of also get it because while you're making the game, you're not making any
- 34:25money off of that, right? It's just all cost. You don't make the game until it's
- 34:29out. So you do want to get it out as quickly as possible. So that's where
- 34:32it's a we're setting this date, get it done. Yeah. Yeah. And it's hard because
- 34:36I, you know, I work in software. It is hard because in theory, especially with
- 34:41something as complicated as a game like, you know, like a Skyrim or Oblivion or a
- 34:45Starfield or whatever, there will always be bugs. Yes. Always. So, in theory, you
- 34:52could just sit on it forever and never release it if you were like aiming for
- 34:56it to just be like bug free. Well, I love like at the beginning of this game,
- 35:00it basically goes, "Hey, here's a story line. you can go or you can go any
- 35:05direction you want. It actually just says that at the start. And yeah,
- 35:09there's a point in Oblivion where if you don't do any of the main quest, then you
- 35:15can go out in the world and everything's fine, but if you trigger like I think
- 35:19maybe if you close that first gate, if you get that far, then they start
- 35:23opening up everywhere. Yeah. And you kind of have to finish the main quest to
- 35:27stop that from happening anymore. Yeah. So, yeah, I actually unfortunately just did that.
- 35:33Well, that's all right. Just go close them all. I like closing them all. Yeah,
- 35:37it's my thing. But that's why I sort of like I kind of like what Rockstar has
- 35:41sort of done with Grand Theft Auto 6. It's coming.
- 35:46Yeah, you'll get it. You'll get it. Calm down. We're not telling you a date
- 35:50because we don't know what the date is yet. But I guarantee they're still doing Crunch.
- 35:56Yeah. Yeah. At certain point, but this is the Yeah. Like with Cyber Punk, it's
- 36:01like maybe you should have just not said, but it's hard.
- 36:06Cyberpunk, keep going back. They could have fixed that all that problem so
- 36:10easily. I know. Just Sorry, PlayStation 3 and Xbox One. Stop coming to it. Yeah,
- 36:17you guys are out. That's what they should have done. That destroyed it for
- 36:20them cuz remember we played it on the Series X, didn't we? Mhm. Also, yeah.
- 36:26And we Yeah, we had no issues. Couple of bugs. I had one bug. I had to do a hard
- 36:30restart and that was it. And Yeah. Right. I never did. Played through it,
- 36:34finished it, loved it. Yeah. Yep. I mean, the version that was out at launch
- 36:40compared to what it is now. Yeah. With the Especially with the expansion is
- 36:44like I I wish it was at launch what it is now. Yes. Because it's hard to I'm
- 36:50not going to play through the whole thing again. No. But I do wish that it
- 36:53had all the I think if they had have gotten rid of those other consoles, it
- 36:57could have been closer to what it is now. Yeah. Because they would have spent
- 37:00the time on on implementing all this stuff. An unplayable game. Yeah. Yeah.
- 37:05Cuz the the changes they made over time were like [ __ ] It's so good now. It's
- 37:10such a good game. It's just so hard to go back and just replay it. Yeah. I
- 37:14can't do the whole Especially when I completed everything 100%. I don't have
- 37:18time. Yes, I'm playing um Breath of the
- 37:22Wild again from scr from the start with LRA. I so wanted to play that game.
- 37:29Yeah, well, you can have a switch. Somewhere in somewhere in that house of
- 37:32yours is a Switch. I know it. The weapons just annoy me in that game.
- 37:39No, you're not allowed to do that because what game is it? There's a game
- 37:43that you like, a recentish game that you enjoy that also has weapon. Oh, no. I'm
- 37:49fine with weapon degradation. I'm Oblivion has it. Yeah. Okay. But the
- 37:56problem with what I found with Breath of the Wild is I need to have like three or
- 37:59four weapons to go into one battle. Oh, okay. Like it was you had to switch so
- 38:06often. Okay. Trying to think what what's the game I'm thinking of. Oh, and it was uh a
- 38:12vowed, I think. Um that's No, they
- 38:16didn't degrade, did they? No. There was the upskilling you had to do
- 38:21and you had to got to certain point where you had to focus on it a lot. I'm
- 38:23thinking of something. There was something I was I I don't know. I've got
- 38:27no problem degradation. That's fine. That happens. I'm doing that at the
- 38:31moment. I' got my repair hammer and I go and fix my stuff. But okay, you can't
- 38:36fix stuff in No, it's just Breath of the Wild. this is going to break and then
- 38:40you need to get a new one. And it does happen quite quickly. You're right.
- 38:43Yeah, depending on what what it is. Yeah, when you get the Master Sword, it
- 38:46doesn't though. I think I think you got to recharge that. But also, but it still
- 38:51lasts a lot longer, but I I'm not going to struggle to get that far. I just I can't.
- 38:58Well, anyway, we're we're playing it. She thinks it's fun. She mentioned just
- 39:00randomly in the car the other day we're driving and she goes, "That was so funny
- 39:05when those goblins were having a dance party and then you threw a rock on them."
- 39:10Like you there be cold blood cuz they were I was like, "Yeah, that was funny."
- 39:16Yeah. So, does she play or is she just watching at this stage? She's just
- 39:21watching, which is ideal for me. Yeah. That means I just get to play games and
- 39:25she watches and she's like, "Come on, let's go play that game." And I'm like,
- 39:27"Okay, sure. Um, she will take she will have a go and like and she's pretty
- 39:33good. Like she's good with a controller like better than I would have been at
- 39:36her age. Well, if we didn't have games like that. Now, are you teaching her to
- 39:39play inverted? Yes. Excellent. Yes. Not teaching her. I'm just That's how the
- 39:45controller is. So, she she's going to be learning it whether she wants to or not.
- 39:49Cuz if you're taking it over, this is how you get That's how I taught my niece
- 39:51and nephew as well. Yeah. Like cuz I'm taking over my controller. I'm not
- 39:55switching it over. This is And I can't play the other way. I can't either. It's
- 40:00It's instant change for me. As soon as I load up a game, if I push up and it
- 40:03looks up, I'm like, "No, that's the one feature I wish we lost when they moved
- 40:09on from the Xbox 360. You could set that on by default for all games." I
- 40:14remember. But now we're really becoming the minority,
- 40:17you know? Strange though, and it's it's because of like flight sims for sure.
- 40:22But I can't can't not do it. It's from playing too much X-Wing versus TIE
- 40:28Fighter. I can burn into my muscle memory on PC. I can now if I'm playing with mouse.
- 40:34I'm not actually good with a mouse anymore because I haven't played a game
- 40:38like that in ages. I'm in between and so yeah, but controller. No. Yeah, it's got
- 40:45to be inverted. Yep. Otherwise, I just like end up looking the wrong
- 40:51direction. Like I've had some games that I've played that you can't invert. I
- 40:56just Well, I'm uninstalling that cuz I can't play it. It'll hurt my brain too
- 41:00much. Yeah. I mean, it depends. I If it's first person, yeah, it has to be.
- 41:07Otherwise, I'm not going to be able to play. Oh, yeah. First person. Third
- 41:09person, that's what I'm talking about. If it's other games, like a puzzle game
- 41:12or something, I can normally I'm trying to think. Third person, maybe I
- 41:17could wrap my head around it, but I don't know. I'd have to try. I might be
- 41:22wrong about that. For some reason, I feel like maybe I could do it if it was
- 41:25third person because it's different. But Oh, that's Zelda.
- 41:29It's definitely inverted. I had to invert it. Okay, never mind. Never mind.
- 41:33Yep. Yeah. Okay. We can't retrain our brains. We're too old. Yeah. Way too
- 41:39old. Yeah. Unfortunately, you're Oh, yeah. Happy birthday. By No, thank you.
- 41:42Yes. Yeah. Sorry. I'm 44.
- 41:48Yeah. Sure. And you're 45? Yeah. That'll
- 41:51be math works. Don't remind me. We did. Did we talk about this on the
- 41:56show? I got I saw a thing the other day and I was like, "No [ __ ] way." It's
- 41:59the 20th she's 20th anniversary of Revenge of the Sith. Mhm. Yes. I saw
- 42:03that as well. How the [ __ ] did that happen? I remember Midnight Screening
- 42:08going to see that. And I was an adult when that came out. How was it 20 years
- 42:13then? Yeah. Not like just an adult like I'm 18 or anything. Like an adult adult
- 42:18full-time job living at a home. Hell, I was married. Yeah. No, I was I was not
- 42:25married, but I was like I took my little my little brother. It wasn't my little
- 42:29brother anymore. It was just my brother. Yeah.
- 42:33Yeah. So strange. But I was thinking
- 42:36like remember the the gap between when
- 42:41so Return of the Jedi to Phantom Menace
- 42:44was what 15 years and uh I wasn't No,
- 42:49not even 13 years. No, no, it would have been 83 to 99. Okay. So, yeah. Okay. So,
- 42:5516 years. Yeah. And and so the gap from from us waiting for more Star Wars would
- 43:01be less than that, right? We didn't see, you know, we weren't that aware of it
- 43:05until we would have been a bit older, but that felt like forever when they
- 43:08were like, "There's new Star Wars." And it was like, "Oh my god, it's actually
- 43:11not that long, is it?" No, apparently not cuz it's been 20 years since
- 43:15Revenge. I mean, I know there's been Star Wars since then, but I almost don't
- 43:18count them in a way. Yeah. Like they were different because we already Yeah.
- 43:24But just that that because the Phantom Menace coming out was like a big deal.
- 43:30Yes. in a way that the sequels and stuff weren't as big a deal. They weren't a
- 43:35big deal. No, the prequels I remember there were people lining up. I used to
- 43:38watch a site called countdown.com. There were people just lined up to buy tickets
- 43:42like months before and because we were we were always told there's not we're
- 43:46not getting any more Star Wars. Star Wars is finished. There's three of them.
- 43:48That's it. It's done forever. And then suddenly it was like, "No, you're
- 43:51getting more." Yep. And it felt like we waited so long and finally, but it
- 43:55wasn't that long. It was like 10 years max. It really was for us. But for some
- 43:59reason it does seem longer. Yeah, it feels like we waited an infinite amount
- 44:04of time and then but but yeah, it's been been way longer since Revenge of the
- 44:10Sith. And I will say like Revenge of the Sith, I sort of like that was getting
- 44:14close back to what Star Wars was, I think. Yeah, it's definitely the best of
- 44:18the the prequels. I on a rewatch I was I'm like, h yeah, it's not very good,
- 44:22but it's not very good, but it's best of them all. like there's a lot of fighting
- 44:27and it's fast-paced again. Yeah. Yeah. I think the
- 44:33um my my my controversial Star Wars opinion is that the Anakin Obi-Wan fight
- 44:38is rid is stupid and it's too much. There's bits of it that are really good
- 44:43and then it's just like [ __ ] off. Let's wrap it up. It's just too much.
- 44:48Exactly. So, it's too much.
- 44:52And then when she dies of being sad. Oh, don't remind me. Yeah, that's it, too.
- 44:59And then the the the worst part is that it could be ambiguous, except there's
- 45:03literally a [ __ ] robot there that goes, "There's nothing wrong with her,
- 45:06mate. She just doesn't want to live anymore." It's like, "No, cut that line
- 45:10out. Come on, leave it ambiguous at least." Like, she just gave birth to two
- 45:14children and she's just um checking out.
- 45:18Stupid. Yeah. Yeah. But anyway, no, we just don't think about it. Have you
- 45:24started watching Andor yet? Cuz I think that is out. Is it? I didn't know it was
- 45:28out. I think it is. Andor or it is very very very close.
- 45:35It is out. First three episodes are out. Is it
- 45:41right? I remember they were releasing April 22nd. Yeah, it is. Okay. Okay. I
- 45:46need to be I'll be watching that for next week then. I've been watching Black
- 45:49Mirror. Um the latest season of Black Mirror. They've just done another Star
- 45:53Trek one, haven't they? Yeah, the USS Mallister. Yep. Yeah. I never watched
- 45:59Black Mirror. I think there's really I've seen like one or two episodes and I
- 46:03think it's I might just go and watch the V the episodes. Sure. The the key Yeah.
- 46:09ones you should watch. Um watch Bander Snatch. That was good. That was like a
- 46:13little movie that they did. The choose your own adventure movie. Okay. That's
- 46:16really good. I watched the one where it's the guys that are
- 46:21playing the virtual reality and then just end up Yeah. ruin each other and
- 46:25then the girlfriends are just sort of just go they they got to have their boys
- 46:30died. That's a [ __ ] funny episode. And uh yeah, some of them are so so
- 46:36good. This season is good. It's [ __ ] dark though. Uh there was
- 46:40like the first episode of this season. I guess I won't spoil anything, but it's
- 46:44just it's very it's very dark, very depressing, but also it's kind of
- 46:49like it's it's close enough to like you could see that that might happen. And
- 46:55it's Yeah, it's I was reading something that I think they're sort of maybe
- 46:59getting to the end of it that they're sort of starting to run out of I don't
- 47:02know, man. This season makes me think maybe not because there was like I said,
- 47:06there's been a couple there there's one episode that I thought was really
- 47:09boring. Um, and I I think I did doze off in it a bit. Uh, and I've heard people
- 47:16are really mixed on it, but all the others have been really good. Like, uh,
- 47:19yeah, it might have just I read that I read saw an article. It might have been
- 47:23then that episode just come out. Oh, I could do I could do slight spoilers, I
- 47:26suppose, right? Cuz you don't Okay. Okay. I don't care about spoilers.
- 47:30As we everyone knows the rules for a movie, you get a week. No, for a movie
- 47:36two weeks. For a TV show, you get one week. Okay, if you really want to watch
- 47:40something, you should be able to watch it in that time frame. So, the first
- 47:44episode is about this couple who they're married and they um they do the same
- 47:50thing on their anniversary of a year. And anyway, she um has like a a brain
- 47:54aneurysm or something like that and they say, "Oh, you know, like she um she may
- 47:58never wake up." But then this woman comes in, she's like, "I'm from this new
- 48:01company. We have this thing. we put um we can replace the part of her brain
- 48:06that's not functioning with like this um with this system and it's cloud-based
- 48:12and so um we offload the the processing to the cloud and then blah blah and it's
- 48:18like you know it's like a little bit like yeah okay sure whatever but then so
- 48:21then don't look too closely at this yeah yeah but then it's like okay and and
- 48:25then eventually he's like well I don't have a choice do I otherwise she's gone
- 48:28basically so they're okay so they agree to do Um and then so she but she's got to they
- 48:35said the only um downside is that she will have to sleep for longer during the
- 48:40night because we have to um like you can't use up all the server time. So
- 48:45it's like so there's like a period where she's going to have to be offline or
- 48:48whatever and it's like okay but then anyway so the it actually does kind of
- 48:52make sense. The premise of it is as they go along this so then they get the thing
- 48:56and then they're like oh yeah but you have to pay for the subscription and uh
- 49:00and then they're like okay it's like like $300 a month or something like that
- 49:04and then in a certain point um she's like he's like she's sleeping more and
- 49:09they're like oh yeah you want to upgrade to the plus if you want her to be awake
- 49:12more often or whatever and and then she just starts doing
- 49:16ads in the middle of conversations and stuff and then and then they're like oh
- 49:20yeah you're going to have to upgrade. It's It's really fun, but it gets it
- 49:23gets really dark though because Yeah. And it's uh It's It's good. It's just
- 49:30Yeah. I think I might just It's like on the edge of that like you could see
- 49:33them. You could see that happening.
- 49:36Yeah. Just that scummy [ __ ] like
- 49:41Yes. Everything comes back to money. Look, I might just try and find a list
- 49:45of like what which Black Mirror episode should I watch and just go and watch
- 49:48them. Oh, yeah. So, it only works in uh in within reception area, but then they
- 49:54upgrade the system, but then they're like, "Oh, yeah, you have to pay extra
- 49:56for the for the travel plan where you can like leave your hometown otherwise
- 50:01they leave and she just goes." Yeah, it's
- 50:06funny even though that was really good. Yeah. Okay.
- 50:11Depressing as [ __ ] No, it's weird because I do know I've quite like Black
- 50:16Mirror. I just don't watch it for some reason.
- 50:19Yeah. No, recommend it. And uh the other good one was Paul
- 50:24Gamati's in one where it's it's was
- 50:27called uh eulogy I think where
- 50:32uh it was a really good episode where it was about like an ex-girlfriend of his
- 50:36has died and he gets a call and it's um a service that the the daughter of the
- 50:42woman has organized and they send you a little device and you put it on and look
- 50:47at photos of the person and remember things. Okay. records them for the for
- 50:53the funeral. And uh anyway, it's it's there's quite a lot to it. The story is
- 50:56complicated. It's good. Like he's it's basically him remembering what happened
- 51:01between the two of them and realizing that maybe he was a [ __ ] and like and
- 51:05whereas he has always blamed her or whatever. It's really good. But also the
- 51:08technology aspect of it is just like oh so interesting.
- 51:12It's good. Good episode. I like Yeah. Cuz that's the whole thing Black Bear is
- 51:16that whole sort of connection with technology and where it can lead and
- 51:20where Yeah. Yeah. And it's Yeah. Sometimes it's like really dark and
- 51:23sometimes it's really funny. And Yeah. Like the one with um this is an older
- 51:27one with what's her name? Ron Howard's daughter. Bryce Dallas Howard where it's
- 51:31like you have like like a social score like the you know like the Chinese
- 51:35social score thing y and that and then yeah like that one's very funny too
- 51:40where but like again funny but like you go oh that could happen. That type of
- 51:46stuff is sort of already happening. That's what I mean. Yeah. And then like
- 51:49yeah, you make a mistake and your score drops and then you can't get a job and
- 51:53you're like yeah the price of your groceries goes up based on your your
- 51:57ratio of your score and stuff. Sort of um the awful with that as well when they
- 52:02go to a planet it's all about your ratings and Yeah. Right. Yep. So if you
- 52:08do something you like people go Yep. you upvote you, they'll downvote you. And if
- 52:11you go down too low, people will treat
- 52:14you like crap. And Yeah. There you go. But yeah, and that's we
- 52:20are sort of at that stage. Well, look at um I'm going to bring up that's how I
- 52:24judge people. How many friends you got on uh on X? Well, it's not even that.
- 52:29Like look at Neil Gaiman at the moment. Like he's been down and
- 52:36now he must cancelled. [ __ ] we don't have any. Yes, I
- 52:42brought him up. I know. Yeah, I know. What are you doing? I don't have any
- 52:46news about him this week. Dan's not here. He probably has news. Yes, I'm
- 52:51sure. We'll take advantage of the fact that Dan's not here. We'll take
- 52:54advantage of Dan. Yes, next week when he's next week. When he's here, I'm sure
- 52:59he'll have Neil Gaming News for us. Even though I think we should stop talking
- 53:03about it, but what do I know? Um, I mentioned last week or the week before
- 53:09that I wanted to play an online game with you guys again because we don't
- 53:13doing that. I suggested I floated Conan and I don't know if you floated on the
- 53:16podcast or if it was later you suggested Minecraft. I suggested Minecraft.
- 53:21So we have a Minecraft. We do. I I haven't seen my invite yet cuz I need to
- 53:25install it and I will. Okay. I was going to say of what you I've sent you guys an
- 53:29invite and every time I log on there I'm like still just [ __ ] me in here any
- 53:34other buildings or anything. Oh like resource wise. Resource wise let me know
- 53:38what you're looking for. I will go start decided I'm going to start a strip mine.
- 53:44Okay. Is that as sexy as it sounds? Yes. Cool. Just next to the house there's
- 53:49going to be a strip mine. It's just naked Luke mining everywhere.
- 53:54There is a canyon next to our Okay. camp. So, I might just start on the
- 53:59other side of the canyon. Okay. Yep. All right. Well, yeah, I sent you an invite.
- 54:04It's a just a um they have two plans that is
- 54:09uh one is you and two people and I was
- 54:12like oh that's perfect unless we want to
- 54:16extend the offer to patrons at some point. We'll see. I I don't want to do
- 54:22that yet. I'm I'm I'm just floating the idea. If that would interest you, let us
- 54:25know. Yeah. Yeah. But it's also possible we will lose interest in this within in
- 54:30about 5 minutes. Yeah. So, I don't want to actually make that official until we
- 54:34determine if you let us know how interested you are, that might sway us a
- 54:38little bit. Exly. That's why I'm bringing it up is that if that's
- 54:40something you're interested in, if that would entice you, let us know and maybe
- 54:45I can upgrade and get some more. I'm going to play I'm going to stay up
- 54:48tonight playing a blooming, but tomorrow I'm going to play Minecraft. Okay, cool.
- 54:54Well, that's the good thing about it is that you can just potter around a little
- 54:57bit and you don't have to commit to it. It's so different though. That's the
- 55:01other thing. So when you ask me what do I what when you say what what you want
- 55:05resource wise I don't know because there's stuff in there that so I played
- 55:11it we've talked about this before I played it when it was in beta that was
- 55:14quite simple and I played tons and tons and tons of it and that's what I was
- 55:19used to and then they over time they introduced things like they didn't even
- 55:22have hunger or anything like that when I originally played it. You ate food that
- 55:26restored your hearts and that's just how it worked. Yeah, but now you have like a
- 55:29hunger and then now there's magic. Your hunger affects you also. You're
- 55:33sprinting and then Yeah. And then like a a [ __ ] traveling trades uh you know
- 55:39trader, a merchant showed up in our thing. There was a merchant in our
- 55:44little camp when I started it the other day. Okay. And so that that's new. And
- 55:49like so anyway, there's just it's it's very different. Farming is a big thing
- 55:55now. I I've been I've seen some mods though that are insane. But I just hope
- 55:59we get leaf. There's like dead leaves on the ground that you can pick up and do
- 56:04stuff with now. It's just all this new stuff that I'm like I don't know. I
- 56:06don't know what that's for yet. So So anyway, that's why I don't know the
- 56:11answer to that. I have to figure it out as a team. Well, that's fine. I'll just
- 56:15start my ship mine. I'll create some chests and just put [ __ ] in. Yeah, I
- 56:18assume we want I would have said iron. I go iron, diamond. Yeah, iron diamond
- 56:24gold and obsidian if you can get it. All right, that's like what I think based on
- 56:31when when we were originally playing it, that's what there was to get. So I think
- 56:36that's you got to stick with the basics. That that would still be useful, would it not?
- 56:40Yeah. And it's named Tortuga. Tuga
- 56:45because I named it Tortuga. Mhm. Because I thought that would be funny. And then
- 56:51I don't know if it did this on purpose because I said that called it Tortuga,
- 56:56but there are [ __ ] turtles everywhere. And Tortuga means turtle in Spanish. So
- 57:03awesome. I like I said, could be a coincidence, but that's a bit weird.
- 57:08That's a bit weird. Yeah. But I I am actually kind of happy we went Minecraft
- 57:13over Conan because why is it? Because the issues we
- 57:18had with Conan last time. the issues we had. I only needed one more achievement
- 57:22in Conan. Oh, yeah. Jumping someone's head. Yep. And all I did would not I got
- 57:28to a point where I just knew where all cuz that was just you needed iron for
- 57:32that. Yes. And it was I knew where iron was. I just run get the iron and come
- 57:36back. It's But there's more to Conan than that you guys. Okay. Not for you.
- 57:42Yeah. I um Yeah, cuz I was remembering to So if anyone doesn't know, we talked
- 57:48about doing Con and Exiles. We did have a Conan XL server for a long time, but
- 57:53there's an the the problem with it on the Xbox in particular is
- 57:59that I think what like a patch came out and they and they just reset the world.
- 58:04Reset the world. And then I emailed them and I said, "What the fuck?" And they
- 58:06were like, "Oh yeah, it's not compatible with the new patch version, so that's
- 58:10that." And I was like, "Wait, so this could just happen at any time? Like,
- 58:14[ __ ] that." And that's what we're paying for. No, we lost everything, which I think
- 58:20Minecraft has got that sorted. I would hope so. It's Microsoft running
- 58:25it now. Yeah. So, yeah, that was through GPortal. And I
- 58:29mean, not their fault, I suppose, but still frustrating. I may actually build
- 58:35cuz I may build stuff to get us all achievements. Okay, do it. like the stuff about like
- 58:41jumping off slime for 60 m or something or Okay, so anyway, the world is
- 58:47multiple realms chasm I think it's called and uh and I named the map or
- 58:53whatever they asked me the names for things I put Tortuga as the name for the
- 58:57the world. Excellent. I will be there tomorrow. Very good. Yeah, you see my
- 59:03little hvel. There's only a hole at the moment. Creeper blew a hole in the side
- 59:07of it. had to fix that. Yeah. Do you want me to put a fence around?
- 59:13Keep them out. Yeah, I do. Set off some lighting. Yeah. Okay. Yep. Yeah. Yeah.
- 59:17Yeah. Yep. Do what you want, mate. It's, you know. Yeah. Whatever you think. I'm
- 59:22not going to have a house. I'm not going to get too attached to uh to anything in
- 59:26there because it's just, you know, just for fun. Yes. And I think you got a week
- 59:32coming off soon. I do. And there's a lot we could do in that week. That's true.
- 59:38Yeah, it's got PAX is at the tail end of it, but uh that's fine. Yeah, I got uh
- 59:44I'm jealous you got to pack. You should be. Have you Have they been
- 59:50announcing what's going to be there yet or? Yeah, it does seem still smaller
- 59:54than uh ye oldie days, but you know, like I think like Devolver's got a booth
- 59:57and uh Behemoth is going to be there. I didn't see Nintendo. I looked cuz I was
- 1:00:02hoping Switch to, but they usually are there. So I I don't know what they
- 1:00:06normally do make an appearance. It's sort of Sony and Microsoft that are
- 1:00:10Yeah. No Sony, no Microsoft. Um yeah, but a lot of the uh Oh, what's the
- 1:00:15what's the Tiny Build? Tiny Build. They'll they've got stuff there. So
- 1:00:19yeah, it'll be it'll be good. I like a lot of I prefer it when it's sort of
- 1:00:23like the big three there. You see more of the I'm actually when I get a package
- 1:00:28of straight, it's all the indie stuff that I really love. The My absolute
- 1:00:32favorite was when Yes. the big names were at PAX and also Bethesda was next
- 1:00:37door in the comedy club and we could get invites into the Bethesda thing where
- 1:00:43they would have like the themed cocktails and stuff and like that was
- 1:00:47those are like my top tier. That would have been amazing. PAX [ __ ] memories
- 1:00:51was just going to get shitfaced with all the people from Bethesda and then going
- 1:00:55back into packs. That was Well, yeah. That's cuz I remember few years ago I
- 1:01:00went to one and then last year I run into a few people there and they
- 1:01:03remember me from the time I just stayed in the club. The comedy club. I stayed in the club
- 1:01:09cuz I had like more they had like sessions set up like people come in this
- 1:01:12time this time. I just stayed. Yeah. Right. And just started talking to them
- 1:01:16all while setting up for the next one and they don't remember me last year and
- 1:01:21hopefully I'll remember them this year and Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's a shame. I don't
- 1:01:27think Bethesda's doing that anymore. That's That was at Laugh Boston, which
- 1:01:30is right next to the convention. No. Yeah, Bethesda's more got a bigger
- 1:01:34footprint at Pax Dolls, I think. Yeah. I
- 1:01:38think it's similar to Microsoft and Sony where they've realized, oh, we don't
- 1:01:43really need to do that. Yeah. And also, it's always what I found weird is
- 1:01:47because I there'll be a huge line for a game that's already out and I'm why are
- 1:01:53you lining up for this or Yeah. Other top tier memories of like
- 1:01:59when we first started going to PAX, they were good, too, cuz there was stuff like
- 1:02:02I remember the very first PAX I went to had Colonial Marines, which obviously
- 1:02:06that didn't work out, but we did go in and do the demo with Randy Pitchford
- 1:02:11like just in in a in a little room with him and like those were the days. And
- 1:02:14then also at was it Pax Oz where CD Project showed us Witcher
- 1:02:193 back in the day and it was literally it was just a team from CD Project. Yes.
- 1:02:25Just showing you the game like it doesn't just doesn't happen like that
- 1:02:28now. It's too big. It's got like it's [ __ ] enormous. But yeah, just like
- 1:02:33Oh, and Vampire that vampire game too. again. Again, just those kind of
- 1:02:37sessions, those memories are like that that was that was I'm so looking forward
- 1:02:41to this year cuz Dan is coming for the whole thing. Yeah. Yeah. This year. So,
- 1:02:47cuz I think this is if you're going to PAX go and hassle him. Yeah. Go
- 1:02:51Pax, come hassle me. Yeah. And we'll go Pax Prime again one day.
- 1:02:58Yes. Yes. Yeah, we should do that. Yep. But look, if you want to come hassle us
- 1:03:01some more now, you should head over to the after party. We have to head over
- 1:03:04there now cuz I I do have to uh go do something after this. And uh we want to
- 1:03:09make sure we give you a nice Yeah. nice after party. We want to get rip you off,
- 1:03:13Trump trained you. We want to give you as much time. So for those people the
- 1:03:17after party, go to patreon.com/multiple nerdgasm. Sign up for uh for as little
- 1:03:22as uh for free. You can sign up and get all the updates. For $1 a month, you get
- 1:03:25the show early and uh and get uh some additional content. And for $5 a month,
- 1:03:30you get the afterparty. If you sign up, you get all the back catalog of after
- 1:03:34parties of which there are many, many, many, many, many. Cuz we're not going to
- 1:03:37rip you off like other people. No, you'll have access to everything and you
- 1:03:41can just pay for a month and then [ __ ] pay a month, download everything,
- 1:03:43unsubscribe. Yeah. Whatever you want. Um, yeah. So, it's it's more show. We're
- 1:03:50going to talk about some more stuff. We've got some uh some some Well, we've
- 1:03:53got a geek of the week of the week. Everybody probably knows who that's
- 1:03:57going to be. This is a tough one, though. But we'll uh geek of the week is when
- 1:04:04somebody dies and Luke gets to decide if they're geek worthy of geek of the week.
- 1:04:10So uh we'll see you there. Bye. Bye. But I'm not going anywhere. No, no. Saying
- 1:04:16goodbye to the ones who the cheap skates. That's all for this week. Thank
