- 0:11This is plausibly Live, the official podcast of The Dave
- 0:14Bowman Show. Thomas Paine wasn't what you'd
- 0:19call a religious man, but he couldn't escape the language of
- 0:23faith in the American crisis. He wrote of Providence, the hand
- 0:27of God guiding history, and he believed that God favored the
- 0:30cause of liberty over tyranny. He saw divine justice not in
- 0:34miracles but in moments, a sudden fog that saved the army,
- 0:38a storm that protected Washington's retreat.
- 0:40He called these signs of Providence, the quiet proof that
- 0:43heaven stands with those who fight for what's right.
- 0:46As a chassis. I see it a little differently,
- 0:49but I understand him. Paine's Providence is what we
- 0:52call hashcacha pratis, Divine supervision.
- 0:55The belief that nothing happens by accident.
- 0:58Every hardship, every victory, every candle burning in the dark
- 1:03has purpose. Faith and divine justice isn't
- 1:05passive, it's trust that God works through those who act with
- 1:09courage and righteousness. Paine believed it, and so do I.
