- 0:00Eric: This podcast was created by fans or fans and is not affiliated with or sponsored by Hallmark or the Hallmark channel.
- 0:09Eric: This is Eric, this is Sydney and this is Hallmark and Scrooge and more.
- 0:22Eric: Hello Sydney.
- 0:26Syndey: Hey Eric, how's it going?
- 0:29Eric: It's going okay.
- 0:29Eric: So we our listeners are probably going what the heck's going on, because we took a week off, but we are back.
- 0:39Syndey: We needed it.
- 0:40Eric: Yeah, yeah, both Sydney's and my life are a little hectic right now, so we kept trying to schedule, schedule and our schedules just didn't align and so, for the first time since we launched, we did miss a week.
- 0:54Eric: So hopefully people are not mad at us I haven't feeling they're not, but If you were just more mad at us that mystery one-on-ones canceled, then we've missed an episode.
- 1:07Syndey: Or maybe they're mad because it's so hot.
- 1:09Syndey: How hot is it?
- 1:10Syndey: How hot is it where you are?
- 1:13Eric: Well, we did have every day in July, with the exception of 31st over 110 degrees.
- 1:20Syndey: Oh my gosh, are you kidding me?
- 1:22Syndey: Yeah, I just looked at the program.
- 1:24Eric: I looked at the fact like the 31st Didn't do it, that it was just sort of the weather's way of saying like you know, screw you, we're not going to give you an entire month of one oh or one 10.
- 1:36Eric: We're going to have that one day where it's not.
- 1:40Eric: And it's funny because it was one oh eight and I don't want to say it felt cool out but it didn't feel like oppressive or oh my gosh, I was like all right, I've been.
- 1:53Eric: My whole sense of heat has been altered.
- 2:00Syndey: I bet that's crazy.
- 2:02Eric: It is, it is I hope it gets cooler.
- 2:06Eric: And it's toasty year.
- 2:07Eric: It's not this toasty, but it's still toasty.
- 2:09Eric: Your way, right.
- 2:11Syndey: No, yeah, it's not that toasty, but it is.
- 2:14Syndey: Yeah, it's pretty warm and we had the monsoonal moisture come up from Mexico, so I was actually.
- 2:24Syndey: I thought we were going to get a little bit of thunder and lightning, but we didn't get any.
- 2:28Syndey: We only got clouds.
- 2:31Eric: We had a huge lightning, thunder storm, but no rain, oh, the other day.
- 2:38Syndey: So that's unusual.
- 2:39Syndey: I guess that happens.
- 2:43Eric: I mean, it's not a lot of rain, it's just a little bit of a storm.
- 2:48Eric: There were parts like had rain, little bit of rain elsewhere, but it wasn't much, even at the parts that did so.
- 2:54Eric: Speaking of hot, we're going to talk and see if, to catch a spy, the one off Hallmark mystery Was hot or not.
- 3:06Eric: So we will.
- 3:10Eric: We will see.
- 3:10Eric: The one that we're going to talk about To catch a spy is the movie we are talking about, which, according to Hallmark, is when the newly renovated hotel optima in Malta has a grand opening.
- 3:21Eric: Chloe and her team from destination traveler magazine head over to cover the travel scene in Malta and sees someone fall to their death Right past her hotel window.
- 3:35Eric: Whoa, and then turned it that one.
- 3:39Eric: I don't know who that.
- 3:41Syndey: Wait a minute.
- 3:41Syndey: Where did, where did you get that synopsis?
- 3:44Eric: Because I pulled a synopsis from the about section and it's much smaller than the smaller, but that was from my MDV, so you're like the one straight from Hallmark.
- 3:54Syndey: Yeah.
- 3:56Eric: So I kind of extra use the part.
- 3:57Syndey: It says a travel writer witnesses a murder at a hotel in Malta and becomes ensnared in a web of Intrigue and espionage as she tries to find the killer before the killer finds her.
- 4:11Eric: Well, that's way.
- 4:11Eric: It is short, but it's way better than this one, which is like it is concise someone falls across her window.
- 4:17Eric: It doesn't even say that there's a murder.
- 4:21Eric: This is, someone's balls were past their window.
- 4:23Eric: Yeah, all right, we let.
- 4:25Eric: I guess maybe I should go to Hallmark and Know on and read the Hallmark ones.
- 4:30Syndey: But well, it's hit or miss.
- 4:33Eric: Yeah, all right, it was written by Rick Garmin, directed by Jeff Beasley, not familiar with either of those two.
- 4:41Eric: Had.
- 4:42Eric: Is it Natalie?
- 4:44Eric: Nat h?
- 4:45Eric: Alie that Natalie, or is?
- 4:47Syndey: it, not a lady.
- 4:48Syndey: Yes, I think that's Natalie just Natalie.
- 4:51Eric: Okay, she spells it fancy.
- 4:52Eric: So Natalie Kelly is Chloe day, the, the Travelerator who has someone fall to their death outside her window.
- 5:01Eric: Colin Donald is Aaron Maxwell, who is FBI agent, and then Patty Mirren is in this one as one of the co-workers for Chloe and I just call her out because I'll talk about her later.
- 5:16Eric: And then there's a whole slew of other Characters who I'm guessing a lot of them, so I haven't seen him before.
- 5:22Eric: I think a lot of them are those like local what do you call?
- 5:26Eric: Some from Malta, maltese, a malteen?
- 5:28Eric: I?
- 5:29Syndey: is that maltees?
- 5:30Syndey: I think there's a maltees poodle.
- 5:32Eric: Oh, maltees talking.
- 5:33Eric: Yeah, yeah, okay, maltese, but is that someone?
- 5:36Eric: Is that somebody or that's just something?
- 5:39Syndey: I think it's of maltees descent.
- 5:42Eric: Okay, well, they're.
- 5:43Eric: Maltees actor Guild, I think, filled up the rest of the, the the cast here, so there you go.
- 5:54Eric: I didn't recognize anyone, though, from the dancing detective, and as I was watching this, I kept looking for dancing detective.
- 6:01Eric: I Saw a couple things that were similar, and I was trying to figure out if the hotel was the same or not.
- 6:09Syndey: Yeah, I couldn't figure that out either.
- 6:11Eric: But they had.
- 6:12Eric: They had like the same balcony scene where they overlook everything.
- 6:16Eric: But I rewound it and I found a picture and it didn't match the Like the iron, the wrought iron, this.
- 6:26Eric: So I just think it was maybe the.
- 6:29Eric: The architecture is very similar there, but yeah.
- 6:32Eric: Okay, well, do we have a cocktail for today?
- 6:38Syndey: You know what?
- 6:38Syndey: We're gonna keep it simple and sweet and we are going with the eyes by a mimosa.
- 6:45Syndey: Nice that is what Chloe day was I'm enjoying with her travel buddies.
- 6:52Syndey: She enjoyed brunch and For a mimosa I mean, I think everyone knows how to make one but I think the fresh orange juice really matters.
- 7:03Syndey: You know, get spring for the fresh orange juice or just make it yourself.
- 7:07Syndey: It's really not that hard.
- 7:09Syndey: But you'll want to have three cups of friend the fresh orange juice on hand and a bottle of chilled champagne and then you'll pour it.
- 7:20Syndey: This is how I do it, but you know you might want to do it differently.
- 7:23Syndey: I do half of the champagne flute with the with champagne and then the other half with the fresh orange juice.
- 7:31Syndey: But some people like to fill it you know, two-thirds of the way with champagne and just put a splash.
- 7:38Eric: And I totally remind me last time I went to brunch with one of my friends, she ordered her mimosa and I forget what she ordered it and I'm like what the heck's that?
- 7:46Eric: And it essentially was that it's like basically Tons of champagne, very little orange juice, and I forget what the phrase, how, what she called it.
- 7:54Eric: Yeah was After.
- 7:57Eric: I have to figure that out Easy on the orange juice.
- 8:01Eric: Yes, I want to say dang, when I make my wife my must, I have to up the champagne game, because I think I'm like the opposite.
- 8:08Eric: I'm about like two-thirds orange juice, one-third champagne.
- 8:12Eric: So I got to at least go half and half, huh.
- 8:17Syndey: I'd use into it, though, because maybe she's not ready for all that champagne.
- 8:21Eric: I'm glad she doesn't listen to the.
- 8:22Eric: She's a pro, she can handle it.
- 8:26Eric: But I'm glad she doesn't listen to the podcaster.
- 8:28Eric: She'll get mad at me for.
- 8:29Eric: Cheating her out on her champagne all these years.
- 8:35Syndey: Eric.
- 8:36Eric: All right, well, I make up for it and making a very strong Bloody Mary.
- 8:40Syndey: So yeah, that's what we're talking about.
- 8:44Eric: There we go.
- 8:44Eric: All right, sounds good, it's very fresh and that, yes, there they were definitely the brunch crew.
- 8:51Eric: So the mimosas per?
- 8:53Eric: Yeah, all right, so let's get into it.
- 8:58Eric: What do you, what did you like about to catch a spy?
- 9:01Syndey: Well, first off, I have to say that I feel like Natalie Kelly kind of looks like a home.
- 9:08Syndey: I felt like Colin Donald kind of looked like a knockoff of now matter.
- 9:14Syndey: I feel like they kind of looked like these people and all the time like gosh, they look like, they look like the.
- 9:25Syndey: You know, that's all I could think about for the first couple of scenes is Just kind of look like the same people.
- 9:31Syndey: Hey, is that what you like?
- 9:33Syndey: Like, I don't know, I just have to say that's what I thought.
- 9:43Syndey: Hey, hey.
- 9:44Syndey: What did you like about this?
- 9:46Syndey: They look like knockoffs.
- 9:47Syndey: They did.
- 9:50Eric: They did.
- 9:50Eric: Hey wait, did you catch, by the way, the beginning of it?
- 9:53Eric: When Nellie Kelly comes in and Chloe comes into her work and like oh, I just got back from Iceland, yeah, okay, so you're not getting the little.
- 10:06Syndey: Easter egg, there Are you.
- 10:07Eric: Colin Donald had just filmed or just released Was a love on Iceland which he was from there, and then this is like the next gig for him a couple of months later Out this came.
- 10:20Eric: Well, that's cute.
- 10:20Eric: Now, whether or not that was purposeful or not, I don't know.
- 10:28Eric: I thought it was.
- 10:29Eric: I thought it was what was intentional, just because I mean, come on, Iceland, kind of a weird coincidence, so.
- 10:34Eric: But I was so hot for a while.
- 10:36Eric: So back to these marginal things that you liked about the movie.
- 10:41Eric: Okay, well, something that's not marginal is bifurcated.
- 10:46Syndey: The movie, Okay, well, something that's not marginal is by far my favorite thing was the scenery.
- 10:56Syndey: I thought that it was really beautiful.
- 10:59Syndey: I would almost argue that the setting, like the film, like Filming the different parts of Malta and the hotel, was almost as beautiful or more beautiful than dancing detective.
- 11:10Syndey: I feel like they used better scenery, like the city of Malta.
- 11:17Syndey: There was a lot of different scenes.
- 11:19Syndey: There was beautiful Like Fortresses by the sea.
- 11:24Syndey: There was there was just like more like that terrace area with the lights and the churches, and I just thought they had a lot more of that Really beautiful scenery.
- 11:32Syndey: Yeah, and I I think that's a great thing the photographer and the digital content, guy and girl, but they were really they, they were kind of added that goofy element that I liked.
- 11:55Syndey: The girl was.
- 11:57Eric: Patty.
- 11:57Eric: Okay, so I don't remember what her.
- 12:00Eric: I could just quickly tell you who her character was.
- 12:04Syndey: She was.
- 12:05Eric: Sarah web, okay, and then Patrick was the computer hacker Guy.
- 12:11Eric: So yeah, so that was it was Sarah, and Patrick were her, her buddies.
- 12:17Syndey: Yeah, and I um they, I thought they were really great.
- 12:20Syndey: I enjoyed the scooter chase, which I feel like in Malta they must love scooter chases because that was, and they must be really good at it because they seem really good at it.
- 12:32Eric: It's funny because I noticed that I was like wait a minute, I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get out of the way.
- 12:40Syndey: But I was like, oh, I'm going to get out of the way.
- 12:42Syndey: Yeah, this just happened in dancing detective.
- 12:44Syndey: So yeah, it must be a Malta thing.
- 12:46Syndey: But what about the people who live there?
- 12:48Syndey: They're like, oh gosh, another scooter chase.
- 12:49Syndey: They're filming in the neighborhood.
- 12:51Syndey: Better get out of the way.
- 12:51Syndey: But and then I liked.
- 12:52Syndey: I liked the killer, the cipher.
- 12:56Eric: The villain in the end.
- 12:57Eric: I enjoyed that.
- 13:01Syndey: I liked the character.
- 13:03Syndey: I liked both.
- 13:05Syndey: I would say I think that the Build up to it was interesting and I also thought the person who it was Was interesting.
- 13:17Syndey: What about you?
- 13:18Syndey: Where are you at?
- 13:20Eric: I think you and I must have been sitting next to each other having a couple of the Malta Malta mimosas Together, because I have a mind I thought the side characters were fantastic.
- 13:35Eric: I thought they were funny.
- 13:36Eric: I did not have that the leads were knockoffs, but I'll get into that a little bit about those guys in the next section.
- 13:43Eric: But I just thought the side characters, they just did a really good job, especially like, obviously, patty is, you know, hallmark and a trained actor from over here who we see in things and then you know, sometimes, and we talked about In the dancing detective Even, you get these side characters from the local.
- 14:04Eric: You don't always necessarily always have the, you know, the highest Talented.
- 14:10Eric: Yeah, I thought that they were really good here even, like you know, the hotel people and some of the sides, like you said, cipher the, the one that I will say though the hotel, or Nahoo, she, the ambassador.
- 14:21Eric: She was a little cardboardy, but whatever, we'll move on from her.
- 14:24Eric: But then I had Malta as well as one of the things I really liked.
- 14:28Eric: And exactly like you said I thought they did a great job of just portraying how absolutely beautiful it is.
- 14:34Eric: If you watch this movie and don't want to go over there, you know, after seeing it I don't know what's wrong with you, because it just looks so stunning everywhere.
- 14:42Eric: Yeah, you know you look.
- 14:45Eric: And then I just I liked the concept of the movie.
- 14:50Eric: I thought it had like the, just the overall, what they were trying to do.
- 14:56Eric: I really liked it and I thought it was.
- 14:58Eric: You know, I will get into a little more of the critiquing of how they did it, but I thought it was inherently like a good story With having this, you know other space, who gets killed by this, you know this international assassin, and then the hotel and the clues and the tunnels and, yeah, you know just all the, all the things that you know came together and that's.
- 15:23Eric: I thought it was a really good Outline for a mystery, yeah, which lead us into the next one of what maybe Didn't you like as much about this particular one?
- 15:39Syndey: Yeah, so I really there were sometimes where I struggled with the acting.
- 15:53Syndey: I specifically our main female lead.
- 15:57Syndey: I like she was so overly emotional and dramatic in some of these instances and her character was also like very hard to like in some of these instances that I was, I have to say, like kind of halfway through like I wanted to turn the movie off, like I really didn't like her that much, like I don't know how to.
- 16:26Syndey: It's just she, she would get on the function.
- 16:30Syndey: Oh hi, yo, you know Where's Elias.
- 16:35Syndey: It's like this guy.
- 16:38Syndey: You like hung out with him in college and then he's like your bff from another mother, like I long lost love.
- 16:48Syndey: I mean the hugs in the beginning were kind of weird.
- 16:52Syndey: Like the whole the dynamic between her and her ex slash editor boss, which is also like an HR nightmare waiting to happen, was so weird.
- 17:07Eric: Like I also thought it was like totally unnecessary.
- 17:11Syndey: There was one point where they were that she was talking with that FBI detective and all of a sudden he's like oh, you guys have a past and it was so like random, like no guy would ever automatically assume that your boss was your ex.
- 17:26Syndey: It was just a weird.
- 17:30Eric: And then, very like, the other two were Patrick and Sarah were in it a lot, but he wasn't really in it and there was like no conflict with him being real.
- 17:39Eric: I mean, I guess there was a slight thing Like say it was totally unnecessary it was just well.
- 17:48Syndey: it just felt like all the characters were kind of forced in this strange way, like it didn't.
- 17:57Syndey: Even the ambassador at the at the embassy, like she seemed kind of off, like everything seemed like budget this was budget hallmark in Malta like what are you doing?
- 18:12Syndey: Get some better actors there, or something.
- 18:14Syndey: I didn't have a problem with, I should say, I didn't have a problem with Colin so much, but I think she just stole too much of my brain with her antics and strange behaviors that I couldn't really look past it.
- 18:35Eric: So I'll just say I had cast like my thing.
- 18:38Eric: I didn't like at the casting.
- 18:39Eric: I agree with you and for me I think she like she's really cute and yeah, she just wasn't a sleuther by any means to me and I think it was just a terrible role for her.
- 18:53Eric: I just didn't buy her at all in it and, like you're saying, she just kind of had a little almost like Valley girl, ask you know thing to her personality and I just I agree with you I just wasn't enjoying her as the lead in it.
- 19:15Eric: I also, though I also didn't think he was a great FBI.
- 19:19Eric: I was thinking like Patty Muran, who you know the sidekick there, yeah, they should elevated her to be the main one and found a Malta person to be Sarah Webb, whatever.
- 19:31Eric: And then I thought, like Ryan Peevee would have bet Pavey, whatever would have been great, like he's an FBI dude.
- 19:38Eric: I just didn't think Colin just seemed like yeah, I'm here because my dad's the head of the FBI and you know I get to hang out Malta because I don't really do much.
- 19:50Eric: And you know he just didn't exude like exude any confidence, like wow, you're a competent FBI guy.
- 19:59Eric: So I just thought the casting of it was not great.
- 20:03Eric: And then I had the kind of I agree with you, like the writing it just it just wasn't quite right.
- 20:10Syndey: Right.
- 20:11Eric: Like you know, I said earlier, I thought the structure was there.
- 20:13Eric: So I think probably like when they went in to pitch the movie, they're like the hallmark is like this is awesome, go for it.
- 20:20Eric: And then when they wrote it it just didn't quite match everything.
- 20:27Eric: And you know you're talking about liars Like he just was there and then he was dead, like I thought they should have and this is probably why you were frustrated with it.
- 20:36Eric: Before they killed him they should have had a little more than a hug in the you know off in the like the lobby of his dad hotel.
- 20:45Eric: And then he's like okay, like oh, he's off, he left.
- 20:49Eric: Why would he leave?
- 20:50Eric: And he was saying stay for this opening.
- 20:52Eric: And then also, why is the putting the FBI up at the optima, like this hotels?
- 20:59Eric: He's making this thing about the soft opening and you know we're not really open yet, we're still figuring things out and yet apparently they're open for business.
- 21:08Eric: So it just was some weird things and the mystery and they were just all of a sudden, you know, and we know it's hallmark and so sometimes you make leaps of faith, but it just, it was just didn't quite to me.
- 21:22Eric: Yeah it just was a kind of a distraction the dialogue and the flow.
- 21:27Eric: It's like when I talked to her on our and you were saying how the writing has to match the physical dynamics of what people do and it just didn't seem like it did.
- 21:39Eric: He would have had a heyday with this one, I'm sure, if we, if we had him on and said, hey, let's watch together and critique it, it would have been fun.
- 21:50Syndey: Honestly I couldn't.
- 21:50Syndey: It made you, made me think of I could not stand how she constantly tried to talk and hypotheticals, like trying to be kind of coy and flirty, like well, hypothetically, what if I were to find a piece of evidence?
- 22:07Syndey: And you know, and she did that like almost every conversation she had with him for a while and I was, I was so so burned out on her hypothetical flirt that I could not stand it, so annoying.
- 22:24Eric: She's from vampire dios.
- 22:25Eric: Do you ever watch that?
- 22:27Syndey: I did watch it and I don't remember her from it.
- 22:30Syndey: She must have been on it for like two seconds.
- 22:33Eric: She was civil and 11 episodes.
- 22:36Syndey: By civil.
- 22:38Eric: She was also in dynasty.
- 22:41Syndey: Oh, that reboot.
- 22:42Eric: She was in Unreal.
- 22:43Eric: That's the one with our friend Brennan.
- 22:47Eric: You know who he is right, Brennan Elliott.
- 22:52Syndey: But I'm trying to figure out if she was in any other Hallmark movies.
- 23:00Eric: I don't think she's in any other Hallmark movies Doesn't surprise me.
- 23:04Eric: But, like I said, she just seemed much more of a rom-com to me then.
- 23:11Syndey: I think she'd be exhausting and anything she's in.
- 23:15Eric: I could.
- 23:17Eric: I'll be a little bit more benefit of the doubt, but I could see I probably could be there as well Because, like I said, she's very attractive and I was annoyed by her.
- 23:28Eric: So you know, I would say that probably shows you how annoying she can be.
- 23:33Eric: Okay, the quality of the mystery.
- 23:39Syndey: So yeah, I definitely think they set up the mystery really well in the beginning.
- 23:45Syndey: It definitely wasn't like your normal Hallmark mystery with the espionage and, you know, going to a government embassy and and like the foreign aspect of it and so like the missing body, like there it is, there it isn't.
- 24:07Syndey: I thought that was cool.
- 24:10Syndey: The interesting twist of the undercover French agent and like that I didn't really know who the killer was and I just I kind of was intrigued by the like elements of the mystery.
- 24:26Syndey: But again, I felt like there was a lot of filler that wasn't necessary.
- 24:30Syndey: I felt like I was distracted by Chloe too much and I just didn't.
- 24:38Syndey: I felt like the mystery itself was great, like you said, but or the foundation of it was great, but the execution not so much.
- 24:52Eric: But I have nothing to add.
- 24:54Eric: That's a pretty much exactly what my notes were in.
- 24:57Eric: Like you, I also.
- 24:58Eric: I didn't know who the killer was and that was.
- 24:59Eric: That was a surprise which I like, I liked.
- 25:02Eric: Yeah, so that way it was good.
- 25:05Eric: I just wish it was better, better written, better directed.
- 25:09Eric: So yeah the body.
- 25:11Eric: Oh, the one thing, like you're saying and this bugged me, and I know it's Hallmark we can't let it bother us, but it did, whereas if someone's falling out of the roof or another roof out of their thing and they land on those, you know, stone patio.
- 25:26Syndey: Like.
- 25:27Eric: I don't think you can clean that up to be no evidence in a matter of minutes, because you would have like body gunk all over the place, like that was like oops disappeared, like it seems like you would have.
- 25:43Eric: Yeah, whatever, we don't let Hallmark, we don't let our reality Bug us too much.
- 25:50Eric: But maybe, I guess, because the overall movie had being a little bit annoying, things like that.
- 25:55Eric: Then we're, I know, let them slide in.
- 25:58Eric: You know another movie, in this one, they, they.
- 26:01Eric: I couldn't let it go so yeah okay, the body count, just the one guy falling by Chloe's window, right.
- 26:08Syndey: No body count.
- 26:10Syndey: Oh no, the beginning.
- 26:11Eric: Yeah, the beginning, which that actually was the best part of the movie act.
- 26:14Eric: I, as I'm thinking about it when he's walking down the thing and he's, you know it's real sinister.
- 26:20Eric: It's great filming.
- 26:22Syndey: Oh no, there's three.
- 26:25Eric: Wait, who's the third?
- 26:27Syndey: So there's the French agent in the beginning, there's Elias and there's Peter, the head guy at the front desk.
- 26:37Eric: How do I completely forget that he got killed?
- 26:39Syndey: Yeah, he was.
- 26:40Syndey: When she is down in the basement she looks over and there he is in a wheelbarrow and she goes.
- 26:45Syndey: Oh my God, peter, well, I forgot the first guy.
- 26:50Eric: So which that was like the best, like I thought it when that first came out.
- 26:55Eric: It was funny because I saw, I saw this, I don't know, probably when it first came out, and then I haven't seen it again since.
- 27:01Eric: You know, we decided to watch it and the beginning I was just like, oh, this is so good, this is so good, and then it's went downhill.
- 27:10Eric: Yeah, three, a body count of three, that's yeah, that's high.
- 27:16Syndey: That is high All right, that's being an Osh man.
- 27:19Syndey: It's deadly.
- 27:20Eric: Of course you and I each remembered two, but we get three.
- 27:26Eric: Yeah, we get three.
- 27:28Eric: Okay, so you did not like Chloe's acting.
- 27:34Syndey: Yeah.
- 27:34Eric: But how about her style?
- 27:38Syndey: I thought the style was really good.
- 27:41Syndey: I thought she was dressed really well.
- 27:43Syndey: I thought actually every character was dressed well.
- 27:46Syndey: I will say I didn't think that her team like I liked those two people on the team like I liked Patty and I liked the guy Patrick who I can't remember, but he they both had great style.
- 28:01Syndey: I loved Patty's look when she first got there the scarf tied on the backpack, always really nice, that's like a maroon leather jacket look.
- 28:10Syndey: And then Chloe's looks were all like kind of your classic staples basic white t-shirt, jeans, trench coat.
- 28:20Syndey: I mean she looked very nice and of course the FBI suits flawless.
- 28:27Syndey: Even the older lady who was playing the embassy ambassador.
- 28:33Syndey: Yes, the ambassador.
- 28:34Syndey: She looked like you would imagine An older lady who's an ambassador to look.
- 28:44Syndey: I thought everyone actually was styled perfectly for their characters.
- 28:52Eric: In which it's impressive if you think about it, because when we talked to Nicole and she was talking about going over there to you know film when you go overseas, she said this like really hard because you're trying to find things locally and be a little tougher.
- 29:08Eric: But I agree with you and for Chloe, yeah, being maybe a little annoying, in this movie she is just like has that perfect body for looking great, clothes like all those outfits she was just seen after seen, just great.
- 29:28Eric: There's the one where she's wearing, I mean, it's just a striped shirt and jeans and that hat, but knocked out of the park.
- 29:35Eric: So I thought that was good.
- 29:38Eric: And though I will say I thought that our little FBI agent guy Aaron, his suit, so I just I don't know, maybe I guess that's what he's supposed to wear.
- 29:49Eric: I just found it kind of, you know, looked like he went to men's warehouse or something, so what.
- 29:56Eric: He didn't impress me much, but the rest of the characters.
- 30:01Syndey: He didn't impress me much.
- 30:04Eric: Exactly, exactly, okay, and then we talk about other clothes, but then we do also talk about decor and everything else, and so that brings Malta in here as well, and like I said earlier.
- 30:19Eric: Malta was just fantastic.
- 30:22Eric: The hotels, cool, the all the scenery where the other places they went, everything from.
- 30:27Eric: You know this is a location decor, whatever you want to call.
- 30:30Syndey: It was all just fantastic to yeah, like those scenes in the lobby.
- 30:35Syndey: When she initially is searching for someone, she runs across the lobby to get someone at the front desk and they do it again when she finally gets the FBI agent with her to like that's a beautiful lobby, beautiful.
- 30:53Eric: Okay, all right, so we're reading now steam meter.
- 30:58Eric: Yeah really weird how steamy were Aaron and Chloe for you.
- 31:07Syndey: I give it a five.
- 31:09Syndey: I give it a five.
- 31:12Syndey: I gave it a five because I felt like there was a little bit of underlying steam maybe, but also there was some steam with our ex too, because he was like oh, I care about you, I don't want you.
- 31:28Eric: Wow, okay, I gave it a two.
- 31:33Eric: Okay, I think you have like I don't know.
- 31:37Eric: In the ending they had a nice hug yeah it was like they might as well fist-bumped each other.
- 31:45Eric: There was no like I don't know about that I didn't feel any of it, so I gave it a two.
- 31:51Eric: All right, the story.
- 31:55Syndey: The story, I gave it a five.
- 31:57Eric: Okay, I gave it a four.
- 32:01Eric: Okay, you know, I just like say just the little unevenness in there and some of the things just brought it down for me.
- 32:11Eric: So, yeah, five I, five.
- 32:13Eric: I consider, hey, this is a decent thing, you know somewhere in the middle, but I so?
- 32:20Eric: I wanted a little below average.
- 32:21Eric: All right, how about the mystery?
- 32:23Syndey: Mystery.
- 32:24Syndey: I gave a six because I felt like it was intriguing but not executed.
- 32:29Eric: Well All right, I gave it a five, so look, just like you, I was one better than the the story for the same exact reason.
- 32:39Eric: All right, the acting.
- 32:44Syndey: I gave the acting a two, and that is for those two characters.
- 32:51Eric: So it's funny, I gave it a five.
- 32:53Eric: But that's the reason why I gave it a five was, I thought, everybody outside the two leads I found actually pretty good.
- 33:01Eric: Yeah, well, I didn't like the ambassador, the ambassador and the two leads yeah they, oh the villain was good too.
- 33:08Eric: There right so.
- 33:09Syndey: I forgot you know what, and I I really liked how they did the little.
- 33:13Syndey: At the end they're like bye, chloe.
- 33:18Eric: Like I guess I am.
- 33:20Eric: We're talking about the, the French agent.
- 33:24Eric: So, yes, I find like the, the, who is the guy who is in the wheelbarrow, paul.
- 33:31Syndey: Oh, peter, peter, paul and Mary.
- 33:36Eric: Isn't?
- 33:36Eric: Oh?
- 33:36Eric: No, yeah, peter, I think Patrick now too many peas.
- 33:39Eric: Yeah, like Peter, like I thought he was good.
- 33:42Eric: Yeah, the hotel manager, whatever her name was, with yeah no, so I found all them good, so that's why I gave it the five for everybody else cumulatively brought it up to okay.
- 33:56Eric: Okay, all right now.
- 33:58Eric: Style.
- 34:02Syndey: Style.
- 34:02Syndey: I gave an eight because I felt like they look good and I felt like that was a beautiful place.
- 34:08Eric: I gave it a nine because, like I said, that was, that was the.
- 34:11Eric: The, the costumer and the location scout are the ones who should get all the credit for this movie.
- 34:20Syndey: Yes, all right.
- 34:22Eric: what do you add up to?
- 34:23Eric: 26 and I add up to a 25.
- 34:28Eric: So I'd have to say I think this is our lowest rigged.
- 34:32Syndey: I might be yeah.
- 34:35Eric: Like I guess the way I would sum it up is I would say it's worth watching once.
- 34:43Eric: Just severe sleuthing.
- 34:47Eric: You want to, whatever, but I wouldn't go out of your way like it's, if it's on, okay, give it a watch.
- 34:56Eric: But I wouldn't say, hey, I'm going to go to my home work now and, you know, hunt it down or any of that.
- 35:02Eric: That's where I would put it.
- 35:05Syndey: You know, it wasn't one where I thought I hope that they make another.
- 35:12Eric: Yeah.
- 35:13Syndey: I didn't think that.
- 35:16Eric: And that's kind of sad.
- 35:17Eric: My daughter watched it with me and she lost interest probably about a half hour in, and all she said to me was this one's not as good as other ones.
- 35:30Syndey: Yeah.
- 35:30Eric: So you know, that's for the, I would say the purely impartial viewer who don't, you know, unlike us, who kind of have to review them and everything, who just looked at it's like, yeah, not very good moving on, yep.
- 35:44Eric: So all right, well, let's us move on to and the as usual.
- 35:53Eric: Hope you enjoyed it.
- 35:55Eric: If you do, please tell a friend, give us a review, any of that stuff, or you know.
- 36:00Eric: However you like to engage, just let us know what you think.
- 36:04Syndey: Yes, you can check us out over on Instagram at Hallmark Mysteries and more, where we post more fun mystery content like did you know?
- 36:17Syndey: And trivia, and would you rather?
- 36:23Eric: and sleuthers style, only to have all of them be answered, travis.
- 36:30Syndey: Oh my gosh.
- 36:31Eric: Who would you?
- 36:32Eric: Who would you like?
- 36:33Eric: Hannah Swenson, de Mary Norman or Mike Travis?
- 36:40Syndey: Here you go, man.
- 36:41Eric: But all right, hey, we're also on threads, oh my gosh.
- 36:49Eric: I can't keep up with this when I remember to send it over there, which isn't very often.
- 36:55Eric: Jeez, I don't know.
- 36:58Eric: I mean, we're only on Instagram and YouTube, I guess.
- 37:01Eric: So if you don't want to, do it if you want to see how excited we are on our faces talking about this movie, you can always watch on YouTube versus the podcast, so you can do both.
- 37:14Syndey: Yeah.
- 37:15Eric: So all right.
- 37:16Eric: Well, one of the things that's coming up is Sydney has a whole bunch of exciting things going on right now, and so I'll be doing a couple of the episodes with some guests or maybe solo, because she's got to take a little bit of a break to deal with some very exciting things like getting a house and all of that.
- 37:39Syndey: August is crazy.
- 37:40Eric: Yes, yes, hopefully tomorrow, or no, yeah, tomorrow the strike hopefully will end.
- 37:51Eric: Oh, we have some new movies coming out in September, including Mystery Island with our friend John Christian Plummer, so that's pretty exciting.
- 38:02Syndey: I am very excited.
- 38:04Eric: He told us about that on our podcast and it's now coming to fruition.
- 38:08Syndey: so Well, who's the guy?
- 38:10Syndey: Who's the guy who owns the island?
- 38:15Eric: Wow, I don't know who it is the woman's from, from Agents of Shield, oh.
- 38:22Syndey: I think I know that.
- 38:24Eric: I don't watch it, but let's just see the she Emily Priestly.
- 38:30Eric: She looks really sleuthery.
- 38:32Eric: I looked her up.
- 38:34Eric: Oh no, that's her character's name.
- 38:35Eric: Elizabeth Headstridge is what her real name is.
- 38:39Eric: Did you watch?
- 38:41Eric: Did you watch how to Get Away with Murder?
- 38:47Syndey: Not like in passing, not really.
- 38:50Eric: There was the one guy who was like her little the main woman's, like hatchet guy.
- 38:57Eric: I think his name was Frank or something like that.
- 38:59Eric: My wife watched the show all the time.
- 39:01Eric: I didn't really watch, I was kind of like you, but he's the.
- 39:03Eric: He's the detective in it who his name is Charlie Weber.
- 39:07Eric: I don't know who owns the island.
- 39:10Eric: Those were the only names that that they released.
- 39:13Eric: So yeah.
- 39:18Eric: London police psychiatrist Dr Emily Priestly needs to take a relaxing break from her stressful job, so her will be invited to mystery island.
- 39:30Eric: Yeah, so maybe we'll get a little London accent there.
- 39:32Eric: Yeah so, like I said when I, when I googled her, she looks very sleuthy, so I'm excited.
- 39:41Syndey: Okay, cool.
- 39:42Eric: All right.
- 39:42Eric: Well, with all that being said, sydney will still be around, still doing the stuff, but just may not be on every every podcast for the next couple weeks.
- 39:53Syndey: So we will miss you.
- 39:54Syndey: I'll be around.
- 39:57Eric: Yeah, all right.
- 39:59Eric: Well, on that note, that's the second time we're saying on this, or was it the third?
- 40:03Eric: We got a lot of us.
- 40:05Eric: Wow, it was karaoke night on uh Mark, mysteries and more.
- 40:09Syndey: I'm gonna have to not drink a mimosa on this side, hi.
- 40:15Eric: I'm a mimosa, okay.
- 40:17Eric: With that being said, sydney, have a wonderful night and we will talk soon.
- 40:23Eric: Okay, good night.
