- 1:03Hey, thanks. For tuning.

- 1:15Find. Us on the web at MB radio dot
- 1:18US. Welcome to Love letters from
- 1:21God. Welcome to Love Letters from
- 2:13God. We have been looking for quite a
- 2:16while now at Psalm 23 and picking up different ideas that
- 2:23have been brought out from that particular Psalm.
- 2:27We've come down to a statement that David makes.
- 2:31Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my
- 2:38life. He's talking about what is
- 2:44following him as a result of his own activities and situations.
- 2:52One thing to remember in your own life is that a singing
- 2:59stream makes no sound without the rocks over which it flows.
- 3:10Let me mention that again. A singing stream makes no sound
- 3:19without the rocks over which it flows.
- 3:25So this statement that David makes here in Psalms 23 is it's
- 3:31another one of those Jolter statements in the 23rd Psalm.
- 3:37Every home in every community, every veteran that's listening
- 3:46to this broadcast right now has felt hurts in their lives and
- 3:55has also had hopes in their lives.
- 4:01And David is making this particular statement as a
- 4:06certainty. It's definite and not just some
- 4:13passing thought. I want to read from two
- 4:18different Psalms today, and then we're going to make a few
- 4:22comments when we're through reading the second one.
- 4:26The first Psalm that I want to read from is Psalm 13.
- 4:32So if you have your Bibles handy or what not, join with me as we
- 4:37look at this Psalm, Psalm 13. How long, O Lord, will you
- 4:47forget me forever? How long will you hide your face
- 4:54from me? How long must I take counsel in
- 5:01my soul, and have sorrow in my heart all the day?
- 5:09How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?
- 5:17Consider and answer me, O Lord my God, light up my eyes, lest I
- 5:24sleep the sleep of death, lest my enemy say I have prevailed
- 5:31over him, lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.
- 5:39But I have instead I have trusted in your steadfast love.
- 5:48My heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
- 5:53I will sing to the Lord because He has dealt bountifully with
- 6:00me. Now that was Psalm #13 Jump over
- 6:06to Psalm #22 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
- 6:23Why are you so far from saving me from the words of my
- 6:28groaning? Oh my God, I cry by day, but you
- 6:34do not answer and by night, and I find no rest.
- 6:41Yet You are holy, enthralled on the praises of Israel.
- 6:49And you, our fathers, trusted, and they trusted, and you
- 6:52delivered them to you. They cried and were rescued.
- 6:59In you they trusted and were not put to shame.
- 7:04But I'm a worm, and not a man scorned by mankind and despised
- 7:12by the people. All who see me mock me.
- 7:17They make mouths at me, and they wag their heads.
- 7:23He trusts in the Lord. Let him deliver him.
- 7:27Let him rescue him, or he delights in him.
- 7:32Yet You are he who took me from the womb.
- 7:38You made me trust you at my mother's breast.
- 7:43On you was I cast. From my birth and from my
- 7:48mother's womb You have been my God.
- 7:54Be not far from me, for trouble is near, and there is none to
- 8:00help. Many bowls encompass me.
- 8:05Strong bowls of basin surround me.
- 8:10They open wide, their mouths at me like a ravening and roaring
- 8:16lion. I am poured out like water and
- 8:21all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax.
- 8:29It is melted within my breast. My strength is dried up like a
- 8:36potsherd. My tongue sticks to my jaws.
- 8:41You lay me in the dust of death, for dogs encompass me.
- 8:50A company of evil doers encircles me.
- 8:53They have pierced my hands and my feet.
- 8:57I can count all my bones. They stare and they gloat over
- 9:02me. They divide my garments among
- 9:06them, and for my clothing they call lots.
- 9:11But you, O Lord, do not be far off.
- 9:17Oh, you my help. Come quickly to my aid.
- 9:20Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power
- 9:26of the dog. Save me from the mouth of the
- 9:30lion. You have rescued me from the
- 9:33horns of the wild oxen. I will tell your name to my
- 9:39brothers in the midst of the congregation.
- 9:43I will praise you, you who fear the Lord, praise him, and you,
- 9:49all you offspring of Jacob, glorify him, and stand in awe of
- 9:56him, all you offspring of Israel.
- 9:59For he has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the
- 10:04afflicted. He has not hidden his face from
- 10:07him, and he is heard when he cried to him.
- 10:15From you comes my praise in the great congregation.
- 10:21My vows will perform before those who fear him.
- 10:27The afflicted shall eat and shall be satisfied.
- 10:31Those who seek him shall praise my Lord.
- 10:35May your hearts live forever. All the ends of the earth shall
- 10:41remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the
- 10:46nations shall worship before you, for kingship belongs to the
- 10:52Lord, and he rules over the nations.
- 10:58All the prosperous of the earth eat and worship.
- 11:03Before him shall bow all who go down to the dust, even the one
- 11:10who could not keep himself alive.
- 11:14Posterity shall serve him. It should be told of the Lord to
- 11:20the coming generation. They shall come and proclaim His
- 11:25righteousness to a people yet unborn, until He has done it.
- 11:32Such as the reading of Psalm 22. But you can see in both of these
- 11:37Psalms, David was kind of on a downer.
- 11:42You know, this is the same guy that wrote the Lord is my
- 11:46shepherd. I shall not want.
- 11:50David knew turmoil, he knew emotion, he knew danger and he
- 12:00knew distress. Scriptures bring out as you read
- 12:05in the history in the Bible of David's life, he found himself
- 12:10hiding more than once. His own son Absalom tried to
- 12:16overthrow him, his daughter was raped by her brother, one of the
- 12:25brothers killed another one of the brothers, his key adviser
- 12:31betrayed him, and three of his sons die Bathsheba's baby, Amnon
- 12:41and Absalom. So let me ask you yourself, is
- 12:49your glass half empty or half full?
- 12:55How does it taste? Life itself?
- 13:01Problems can bring on a lot of trouble.
- 13:06Problems can become like a wicked thief if we'll let them
- 13:09do so. But our joy, the joy that you
- 13:15and I have, and if you notice in those Psalms, they both end with
- 13:21glory to the Lord, and the Lord is really the one who wins.
- 13:27Our joy begins in anticipation of our future.
- 13:33Think of your own trail. My grandfather used to tell me
- 13:38if you want to follow somebody, look at the trail they leave
- 13:43behind them. Do I leave behind peace in the
- 13:48lives of people or turmoil? Do I leave behind forgiveness or
- 13:58bitterness? Do I leave behind contentment or
- 14:05conflict? Do I leave behind flowers of joy
- 14:12or frustration? Do I leave behind love or
- 14:19rancor? You know our shepherd, the
- 14:25shepherd that David's talking about in Psalm 23.
- 14:30He wants us to pass the same back to Him that He gives to us.
- 14:38And again, remember, Remember again, that a singing stream
- 14:46makes no sound without the rocks over which it flows.
- 14:53Shall we pray, Father in Heaven, help us through these troubles
- 15:00in life? We all have them, and we know
- 15:05that you're there to help us get through them.
- 15:08We know that you very much want to bring goodness and mercy into
- 15:19our lives, and we pray that you will help us as we read your
- 15:24love letter to see that when we think we have lots of problems,
- 15:29let's note that all other people have too, and you got them
- 15:34through the problems. You'll help us also with ours.
- 15:39We're so thankful for your Son who came to make all of this
- 15:44possible, and we pray this in his name.
- 15:48Amen. And that's it for today.
