- 0:40Speaker 4: Are you?
- 0:41Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 0:42Speaker 5: And the touchdown of that night, my god, was an
- 0:44Speaker 5: incredible catch by Garrett Wilson.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Would be nice if you know the Patriots had a
- 0:49Speaker 4: player that can make that Garrett Wilson catch.
- 0:51Speaker 5: Wow, he spins. It's like in a different place, dark
- 0:54Speaker 5: place it.
- 0:55Speaker 6: On Tuesdays is it's dark dark.
- 0:57Speaker 1: He did do the vanilla nut tap, there's no doubt.
- 0:59Speaker 1: But but he did do. But I think he was
- 1:03Speaker 1: like kind of kidding around with.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Him, because he was if you did that in this
- 1:06Speaker 3: office right now, joking around or not.
- 1:09Speaker 5: Problem only if Paul went to that someone did that
- 1:12Speaker 5: to me, I wouldn't be going to.
- 1:13Speaker 4: H we want to start talking about football game?
- 1:17Speaker 5: Ready to do that yet? So you just hold on.

- 1:29Speaker 1: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 1:33Speaker 1: at ji Letts Stadium, getting ready for the Dallas Cowboys.
- 1:37Speaker 1: How about them Cowboys?
- 1:38Speaker 5: Huh?
- 1:39Speaker 6: Not so great last weekend?
- 1:40Speaker 1: Actually, yeah, that's so great. But according to Bill, they're
- 1:43Speaker 1: pretty great.
- 1:44Speaker 6: Yeah, he gave ran down the whole roster, he started
- 1:46Speaker 6: Max Man losing last week.
- 1:48Speaker 8: I think it's all bad for us too.
- 1:50Speaker 1: He thinks, Well, we were talking about that.
- 1:54Speaker 5: That's that's I don't think a lot of people think
- 1:56Speaker 5: that's two games in.
- 1:57Speaker 8: A row like that, especially I mean cars.
- 2:00Speaker 5: I think they're looking ahead in San Francisco next week. Yeah,
- 2:05Speaker 5: it's telling you there's a chance trap game.
- 2:09Speaker 6: I'm not saying, but I'm saying, I don't know you.
- 2:13Speaker 6: Have you felt any I mean feel like Evan and
- 2:15Speaker 6: I actually I don't speak for Evan might speak, but
- 2:17Speaker 6: I'm feeling he's still dark.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Opposite I feel like we're.
- 2:22Speaker 4: Both feeling we've turned the page.
- 2:24Speaker 6: Yeah, both of us are feeling a little Patriots positivity
- 2:26Speaker 6: about this game. And why is.
- 2:28Speaker 4: That I'm taking I'm taking the Patriots. I like the
- 2:31Speaker 4: Patriots in this game.
- 2:32Speaker 6: I think I like what they're kind of putting. I
- 2:34Speaker 6: don't know, I just kind of feel good right now. So,
- 2:36Speaker 6: I you know, I know people complain sometimes Tuesday show
- 2:39Speaker 6: is too negative Wednesday. I'm just gonna be a cock
- 2:40Speaker 6: eyed optimist. I'm not sure. I just I was looking
- 2:42Speaker 6: at it today, you know, going through it, and I'm like,
- 2:44Speaker 6: I think there's gonna be a tight game. I think
- 2:46Speaker 6: they might be able to pull it out. I can't
- 2:49Speaker 6: point to something specific of why I've kind of feeling
- 2:51Speaker 6: because we have to shoot the show on Monday and
- 2:53Speaker 6: we have to make our picks, like, and you haven't
- 2:54Speaker 6: even gotten over the Jets game yet, so you know,
- 2:56Speaker 6: initially I was kind of like, yeah, probably Cowboys, but
- 2:59Speaker 6: I don't know, feeling.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Kind of possible. Well, I mean, at least we know
- 3:01Speaker 1: the weather won't be a factor, right.
- 3:04Speaker 6: That's half the battle, right, Yeah.
- 3:06Speaker 5: So the Cowboys offense will be able to.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Offer offensive line for the Patriots as healthy as as
- 3:12Speaker 1: it's been, right.
- 3:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean we'll see, I mean, I well, yeah,
- 3:17Speaker 6: I hope, so we'll see if Low's still out there.
- 3:20Speaker 6: But I don't know. I'm kind of curious about a Strange. Yeah,
- 3:22Speaker 6: I'm kind of curious about col Stane.
- 3:23Speaker 4: That's true that I don't really know if that's a problem.
- 3:27Speaker 5: So he's still in a dark place.
- 3:28Speaker 4: I get And sometimes I just said I'm taking the
- 3:31Speaker 4: Patriots this week, but I with the offensive line.
- 3:34Speaker 5: In terms of health, I don't, you know, I don't
- 3:35Speaker 5: know how much of Cole Strange not finishing last game
- 3:38Speaker 5: was health related, perform health relateable.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Wait till the report comes out.
- 3:44Speaker 6: Yeah, we'll see who's out there.
- 3:45Speaker 5: And I know Bill loves to give us all that information.
- 3:47Speaker 6: With Godshaw too, he's.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Big.
- 3:50Speaker 4: That's the big key to me. If Godshaw is not
- 3:53Speaker 4: going to play in this game, then my my pick
- 3:55Speaker 4: might change. But I don't.
- 3:59Speaker 5: I most guys go. If Joe Burrow plays, I like
- 4:02Speaker 5: the Bengals. If he doesn't, I'm not sure. Well, I
- 4:07Speaker 5: mean that's.
- 4:09Speaker 4: It's a huge it's a huge fat She's real. This
- 4:15Speaker 4: week has been insufferable, just across the board, getting him
- 4:20Speaker 4: so mad, so yes, I can't win this week.
- 4:27Speaker 1: I can't.
- 4:28Speaker 4: I'm over it.
- 4:29Speaker 5: But you didn't even like the way he's been playing.
- 4:32Speaker 4: Yeah, but they got nothing else. They got no other
- 4:34Speaker 4: but nobody else to put on the nose besides in
- 4:37Speaker 4: a game like this, like obviously, if you're in a
- 4:39Speaker 4: game where they're gonna throw it forty five times in
- 4:41Speaker 4: bar more and you know, those guys can play the
- 4:43Speaker 4: nose position. But the reason why I like the Patriots,
- 4:47Speaker 4: Mike was saying that it's because of the I think
- 4:49Speaker 4: it's because of the Cowboys. Yeah, they have publicly proclaimed
- 4:53Speaker 4: that they want to run the ball offensively and they
- 4:56Speaker 4: want want to quote rest my defense. That that's what
- 5:02Speaker 4: Mike McCarthy said in the offseason that they fired Kellen
- 5:04Speaker 4: Moore because Kellen Moore wants to light up the scoreboard
- 5:08Speaker 4: because points are bad. But I want to run the
- 5:10Speaker 4: ball and rest my defense. So in this game, you
- 5:14Speaker 4: have two teams at rank in the top five and
- 5:17Speaker 4: plays per game. They both run seventy plus plays per game.
- 5:21Speaker 4: The Cowboys only had eight possessions last week against the Cardinals,
- 5:25Speaker 4: and they won time of possession. They only had eight
- 5:28Speaker 4: possessions because everybody was running the ball. So I think
- 5:30Speaker 4: the Patriots get into a game with Dallas that's twenty seventeen,
- 5:34Speaker 4: seventeen fourteen and a slug fest, an old school slug fest.
- 5:39Speaker 4: So why can't the Patriots win that game?
- 5:41Speaker 1: Why? Why does why does McCarthy want to do that? Like?
- 5:45Speaker 1: Why couldn't turn bet?
- 5:47Speaker 4: I couldn't tell you. It is so the Patriots need
- 5:51Speaker 4: to play that way because of their personnel, right, they
- 5:54Speaker 4: need to lean on their defense, they need to control
- 5:56Speaker 4: the ball on offense, and they need to run the
- 5:59Speaker 4: football like that's how the Patriots need to win football games.
- 6:02Speaker 4: Dallas has Dak Prescott with the star studded offensive line
- 6:07Speaker 4: with Ceedee Lamb on the outside, and they've decided to
- 6:10Speaker 4: put him under center and hand the ball off. It
- 6:12Speaker 4: blows my mind, It really does blow my mind.
- 6:15Speaker 5: That's McCarthy is a run first coach. That's what he
- 6:19Speaker 5: wants to play.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Yeah, and that to me, if I'm the Patriots, I
- 6:23Speaker 4: put my base defense out on the field, I say
- 6:26Speaker 4: run the football and let's play seventeen fourteen, and I'll
- 6:30Speaker 4: take my chances because if Dallas comes out and spreads
- 6:32Speaker 4: the field and lets Dak cook, the Patriots aren't going
- 6:34Speaker 4: to score with them. But if they play the type
- 6:37Speaker 4: of way that they've been playing the first three weeks
- 6:38Speaker 4: of the season, I don't see why they can't win
- 6:41Speaker 4: a game that's low scoring. That's that's how they win.
- 6:44Speaker 5: Well, I certainly would agree if it's low scoring, that's
- 6:46Speaker 5: the Patriots sweet spot.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Like some probably somewhere under that twenty four is really
- 6:53Speaker 4: the number.
- 6:54Speaker 5: Preferably, if the Patriots score first and have the lead throughout,
- 6:58Speaker 5: then I feel good.
- 6:59Speaker 4: But if the Patriots can get to twenty to twenty
- 7:02Speaker 4: four points and all like, not even joking, Yeah, in
- 7:05Speaker 4: all sincerity, Dallas is not going to purposely throw to
- 7:10Speaker 4: score in this game. That's not how they want to
- 7:12Speaker 4: play football.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Do you think they like?
- 7:15Speaker 6: I mean, I think Jonathan Jones hopefully will play, But
- 7:17Speaker 6: if he didn't play, I mean, might that be could
- 7:19Speaker 6: they could they potentially just switch it up and say, look,
- 7:21Speaker 6: they've got no cornerback depth, let's just try to spread
- 7:23Speaker 6: them out and try it. I mean, you know, could they?
- 7:24Speaker 4: That would be giving McCarthy a lot of credit that
- 7:26Speaker 4: I'm not willing.
- 7:27Speaker 5: To give them.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I think dan Quinn's a great defensive coach.
- 7:33Speaker 4: I think they have a really good defense. I think
- 7:35Speaker 4: there are ways that you can expose it, like the
- 7:36Speaker 4: Cardinals did last week. I watching their film with Mike
- 7:41Speaker 4: McCarthy is depressing because as a DAK fan, like as
- 7:44Speaker 4: somebody that's a dack Jerry Jones.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Okay with all of this, I.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Mean, they're winning, so you know, I would say yes,
- 7:51Speaker 4: because they're they're winning. Uh you know, but the bottom
- 7:54Speaker 4: line is is that they run a very very rudimentary offense.
- 8:00Speaker 4: It's it's very simple.
- 8:02Speaker 5: Did you do much work on their defense?
- 8:05Speaker 4: Oh yeah?
- 8:06Speaker 5: So I saw a couple of the big plays just
- 8:09Speaker 5: watching highlights and Mike and I are always peeking at
- 8:11Speaker 5: red zone when we're doing post game. I saw like
- 8:15Speaker 5: a sort not a trick play, but it's like an
- 8:18Speaker 5: end a round of Rondel Moore that went for big yard.
- 8:20Speaker 5: Did they run it conventionally and just submashed them or
- 8:23Speaker 5: did they hit a couple of big plays with and
- 8:27Speaker 5: got it, you know, got spell? Like did James Connor
- 8:30Speaker 5: kill them between the tackles twenty five times?
- 8:32Speaker 4: No, he read it. He read it fourteen times, but
- 8:35Speaker 4: he killed them.
- 8:36Speaker 5: Okay, Like because because I saw it like Moore had
- 8:38Speaker 5: like a'd be like a fifty yards.
- 8:40Speaker 6: They had really big two really yeah, and one of
- 8:43Speaker 6: them was.
- 8:43Speaker 5: So this is kind of like to me what the
- 8:45Speaker 5: Chargers did to the Dolphins in Week one.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Similar. So there was one zone read where Josh Dobbs
- 8:51Speaker 4: kept the ball and ran for about fifty yards, so
- 8:53Speaker 4: that you can take that out at the playbook, right,
- 8:55Speaker 4: like that's not happening. But a lot of what you
- 8:58Speaker 4: saw from the run game with the car, the traditional
- 9:00Speaker 4: run game, not talking about quarterback designs or whatever, is
- 9:03Speaker 4: that a lot of the Cowboys like to be aggressive.
- 9:07Speaker 4: They're slanting front, they want to shoot gaps, they want
- 9:10Speaker 4: to get in the backfield, and so they just used
- 9:12Speaker 4: misdirection and they ran at Micaeh Parsons.
- 9:15Speaker 5: So they had runs of twenty six, forty four, and
- 9:18Speaker 5: forty five yards. Excuse it, I mean Connor had his
- 9:21Speaker 5: longest run was twenty six. Dobbs was the one that
- 9:23Speaker 5: Evan just talked about, and then Moore had the forty
- 9:26Speaker 5: five yard touchdown. Like that's a lot of big plays
- 9:29Speaker 5: in the running game.
- 9:30Speaker 4: Yeah, and they ran at Michael Parsons. They said, you know,
- 9:34Speaker 4: te off like get upfield, like get vertical, and we're
- 9:37Speaker 4: going to wash you down and then we're going to
- 9:38Speaker 4: run it right behind you. And that's what they were
- 9:40Speaker 4: able to do. I think there are ways that you
- 9:42Speaker 4: can use that game plan, but I tend to agree
- 9:45Speaker 4: with you, Paul, that they'll overcorrect now right right, like
- 9:50Speaker 4: they'll they'll fix it and they'll come into this game
- 9:53Speaker 4: and they'll say, well, the Patriots don't really have much
- 9:54Speaker 4: of a passing game, so we have to stop the run.
- 9:57Speaker 4: So I look at it as like that's the chess
- 9:59Speaker 4: matt between O'Brien and Quinn. Is Quinn's gonna probably come
- 10:03Speaker 4: out with some different things in the run game. What
- 10:06Speaker 4: does O'Brien do to combat that. I also would say that,
- 10:09Speaker 4: you know, not having Trayvon Diggs is a factor. Their
- 10:13Speaker 4: secondary looked completely out of swords last week without Trayvon Diggs.
- 10:17Speaker 4: And I'm not talking about like they don't have the horses.
- 10:20Speaker 4: It was more they didn't have the assignments down right,
- 10:22Speaker 4: the communication and the on field chemistry.
- 10:25Speaker 5: They did's some mixing and matching too. They and I
- 10:28Speaker 5: don't have all the names in front of me now,
- 10:29Speaker 5: but I think they moved Doron uh god, what's his name? Yeah?
- 10:36Speaker 4: Yeah, Their other corner. You're talking about the corner that
- 10:39Speaker 4: took Yeah, yeah.
- 10:41Speaker 5: Yeah, it's not pain though, I know that's a that's
- 10:45Speaker 5: a defensive lineman. Do uh, where's my guy here?
- 10:51Speaker 1: Yes?
- 10:52Speaker 5: He so he's he kind of moved and uh, you
- 10:55Speaker 5: know from like the the nickelback into one of the
- 10:58Speaker 5: one of the regular starting spots. Obviously Steph is there,
- 11:02Speaker 5: but I think their safeties is still reasonable. I like,
- 11:06Speaker 5: I kind of always liked Malie Hooker. I don't know
- 11:09Speaker 5: if he's a great player. I didn't say that, but
- 11:11Speaker 5: I've always kind of liked him. I think they need
- 11:15Speaker 5: to find the matchup where and I'm not going to
- 11:17Speaker 5: even try to pronounce the name, but the former Dolphins
- 11:19Speaker 5: number one first round pick, Yeah no.
- 11:23Speaker 4: They didn't play much last time.
- 11:24Speaker 5: Yeah, because he can't play.
- 11:26Speaker 4: Yeah, so Jordan Lewis was there, nickel and then Bland
- 11:29Speaker 4: played outside and Gilmore obviously plays outside. But to me,
- 11:32Speaker 4: it was just there was at least two or three
- 11:35Speaker 4: like bad coverage bus without digs back there just because
- 11:38Speaker 4: those guys, you know, Gilmour just got there. These guys
- 11:41Speaker 4: haven't played a whole lot of football together, you know,
- 11:43Speaker 4: like all of that stuff.
- 11:44Speaker 5: To me, adds up to the anatomy of an overlooked opponent, right,
- 11:49Speaker 5: And I understand why people, and I know Alex has
- 11:51Speaker 5: been with everybody else like that's not going to happen
- 11:54Speaker 5: two weeks in a rown. It probably won't. It probably
- 11:57Speaker 5: is going to get over corrected, as Evan said, But
- 12:00Speaker 5: what happens when you just don't put in the time
- 12:02Speaker 5: because it's Arizona, they're not even trying to win, So
- 12:06Speaker 5: what happens You get ball run down your throat for
- 12:08Speaker 5: two hundred and twenty five yards because you're not paying attention.
- 12:11Speaker 5: You know, you know, Micah Posin's trying to get like
- 12:13Speaker 5: seven sacks today and he's upfield and they're running right
- 12:16Speaker 5: at him, like Evan talked about yesterday, so you know,
- 12:19Speaker 5: coverage breakdowns, assignment breakdowns. To me, it all adds up
- 12:24Speaker 5: to a typical Cowboys team that's not paying attention because they,
- 12:29Speaker 5: as Fred likes to say, they're smelling themselves. And that's
- 12:32Speaker 5: why I think it's a good spot. I think they
- 12:34Speaker 5: could be absolutely overlooking this game as well.
- 12:37Speaker 8: And to that point, though, like I would feel much
- 12:39Speaker 8: better about it if we had really kind of gotten
- 12:41Speaker 8: into a groove passing the ball and shown that they
- 12:45Speaker 8: really can move up the field and take advantage of
- 12:47Speaker 8: all those issues they have with their secondary right now.
- 12:50Speaker 3: And I just I'm not convinced yet.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think there's any way they look past
- 12:54Speaker 1: this game.
- 12:55Speaker 6: It's the Patriots.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Yeah, well it's after coming off that loss last year.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Yeah, it's I just think they're looking. They think they're
- 13:03Speaker 5: their competition is next week because we're the Super Bowl contenders. Yeah,
- 13:07Speaker 5: but they've got San Francisco's the measuring stick. That's the game.
- 13:10Speaker 1: But they don't want to lose two in a row.
- 13:12Speaker 5: No, of course they don't want to.
- 13:14Speaker 4: I don't think that they're not going to be locked in, Like,
- 13:16Speaker 4: That's not why I'm taking the Patriots. I just like
- 13:18Speaker 4: certain things about this matchup for the Patriots. I think
- 13:21Speaker 4: the Patriots can run the ball on this team. I
- 13:23Speaker 4: think they can throw it on them too, if they
- 13:25Speaker 4: can block up front. Like obviously that's easier said than done.
- 13:27Speaker 4: But I look at this a lot like the Philly game,
- 13:30Speaker 4: where yeah, your offensive line got its butt kicked for
- 13:33Speaker 4: four quarters, but he still through for three hundred yards.
- 13:35Speaker 1: And usually when there's one guy that you know, like
- 13:39Speaker 1: in this case, Michael Parses. But you know JJ Watt
- 13:42Speaker 1: we've seen in the past. Bill figures out how to
- 13:44Speaker 1: neutralize that guy.
- 13:46Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I just wonder front Lawrence and well,
- 13:51Speaker 6: I mean, Odiggy Zoo.
- 13:52Speaker 5: I think they're a really good defense. Now, I don't know.
- 13:55Speaker 5: I don't have much confidence that the Patriots will be
- 13:58Speaker 5: able to run the ball like that. I think it
- 14:00Speaker 5: would be more like the Jets game for Dallas, where
- 14:02Speaker 5: they'll just say, we need to stop the run today,
- 14:04Speaker 5: and if they throw at three hundred plus, it's going
- 14:06Speaker 5: to because the Patriots are behind. I'm really worried about
- 14:09Speaker 5: some of the comments that came out of that game
- 14:11Speaker 5: the other day. Like if I heard one guy say it,
- 14:14Speaker 5: I heard every single guy. You know, no turnovers clean,
- 14:17Speaker 5: Like if that's the goal every week is just to
- 14:20Speaker 5: play safe and conservative and not do anything wrong, that's
- 14:24Speaker 5: not going to be enough most weeks.
- 14:25Speaker 1: No, but they had to take that baby step. They
- 14:28Speaker 1: had to reverse that trend that and that's why the
- 14:32Speaker 1: focus was all about, you know, ball, you know, not
- 14:35Speaker 1: turning the ball over, because.
- 14:37Speaker 5: No, I know that you don't want to turn the
- 14:39Speaker 5: ball over. I understand that that's a focus, but like
- 14:43Speaker 5: I would feel, like Glex said, I would feel better
- 14:46Speaker 5: if you know, they ran a conventional offense and didn't turn.
- 14:50Speaker 1: The ball over.
- 14:50Speaker 5: They scored thirteen points.
- 14:52Speaker 1: It didn't turn the ball over, well, I think, but
- 14:54Speaker 1: I think you know you're you're turning the ball over
- 14:57Speaker 1: leading into the game. You know the weather's going to
- 14:59Speaker 1: be bad. The the emphasis was all about protecting the ball,
- 15:03Speaker 1: you know, to the detriment of you know, being a
- 15:07Speaker 1: little bit more complex on offense.
- 15:09Speaker 5: You know, well, I don't necessarily like, I don't necessarily
- 15:12Speaker 5: think they weren't complex. I think I think that they
- 15:14Speaker 5: were more concerned about that than scoring. And yeah, I
- 15:19Speaker 5: think they get to score. Like I'm with Evan on this.
- 15:21Speaker 5: If it's a low scoring game and they can win
- 15:23Speaker 5: twenty to seventeen, I'm with Evan and Mike. I think
- 15:26Speaker 5: they can win. I don't think it will be that.
- 15:28Speaker 5: I don't think Dallas is going to be like in
- 15:30Speaker 5: the teams when this game is over.
- 15:32Speaker 8: And to that point, like they might have not turned
- 15:33Speaker 8: the ball over, but it's still to me at least
- 15:36Speaker 8: was disciplinary stuff that was killing their own momentum on offense.
- 15:40Speaker 6: And yeah, that just three penalties on the second possession
- 15:43Speaker 6: of the second half.
- 15:44Speaker 4: That was like, I mean that one Yeah, that one
- 15:47Speaker 4: drive was bad, but I don't you know, outside of
- 15:49Speaker 4: that one drive, I thought that really just like the
- 15:51Speaker 4: positive that I took away from it is how well
- 15:53Speaker 4: they run blocked a really good Jets defensive front, for sure,
- 15:57Speaker 4: And that was the first time all season long that
- 16:00Speaker 4: I've seen them move the line of scrimmage in the
- 16:01Speaker 4: run game, especially in the second half. They really got
- 16:04Speaker 4: it going there a little bit with Zeke And so
- 16:07Speaker 4: if they can block like that moving forward in the
- 16:09Speaker 4: run game, and I had my concerns about Vederien Lowe
- 16:13Speaker 4: and pass protection, but he's a strong guy. You know,
- 16:16Speaker 4: he can run block and you know him next to
- 16:18Speaker 4: on Wuenu. And if Trent Brown plays like that like
- 16:21Speaker 4: he did on Sunday, and he plays like that consistently,
- 16:24Speaker 4: then I think that they're going to be able to
- 16:26Speaker 4: run the football again, and then you know, maybe that
- 16:28Speaker 4: does take some pressure off the passing game. But I
- 16:31Speaker 4: have my concerns that Dallas is gonna overcorrect, like I said,
- 16:33Speaker 4: and they're gonna be ready to stop the run, like
- 16:35Speaker 4: Paul said. But I think in general that's the biggest
- 16:38Speaker 4: positive into Fred's point of these little baby steps. Okay,
- 16:42Speaker 4: so now you've checked run blocking off, like, you clean
- 16:44Speaker 4: that up a little bit. This week, you didn't turn
- 16:46Speaker 4: the ball over. You clean that up a little bit.
- 16:48Speaker 4: This week you were able to run some more play
- 16:50Speaker 4: action and do some different things from under center. Check
- 16:53Speaker 4: that box off. It's baby steps, but like those are
- 16:56Speaker 4: the positives that you can take away from this game
- 16:59Speaker 4: that fully lead to more points in the future.
- 17:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I would agree with all of that. Show absolutely
- 17:04Speaker 5: baby steps.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean they've got to do you know, they've
- 17:08Speaker 1: got to prove to themselves that they can do it
- 17:10Speaker 1: before anything else. And so you know, now you have
- 17:14Speaker 1: to just build on it. You know, now you have
- 17:16Speaker 1: to do it a second games just need to see
- 17:19Speaker 1: the do it. We've blocked well that game. Now you
- 17:22Speaker 1: know we're good. No, you're not good. You got to
- 17:23Speaker 1: Now you got to build on consistency.
- 17:26Speaker 6: Yeah, and I would say, I mean these are things
- 17:27Speaker 6: that you had to get right now. It's about can
- 17:29Speaker 6: we conquer the next step, which would be to beat
- 17:31Speaker 6: a playoff team, you know, on the road, like you know,
- 17:33Speaker 6: that's the multi season long kind of like I'm looking
- 17:37Speaker 6: I'm looking for some point like, I think the best
- 17:39Speaker 6: offensive game they had of the three was the first one.
- 17:43Speaker 5: Now you could argue and say, well, it doesn't really
- 17:45Speaker 5: matter because they turned the ball over twice and you lost.
- 17:48Speaker 5: At least they had a chance, they had a puncher's chance.
- 17:51Speaker 5: They were they were moving the ball up and down
- 17:52Speaker 5: the field that day. That's the only one of the
- 17:54Speaker 5: three games that I thought they moved the ball consistently well.
- 17:58Speaker 5: They probably should have had more than twenty points in
- 18:00Speaker 5: that game. I think some of the decisions on fourth
- 18:03Speaker 5: downs heard him in that game. Quite frankly, I think
- 18:06Speaker 5: they left points on the field. I don't think they
- 18:08Speaker 5: left a lot of points. I mean they did miss
- 18:10Speaker 5: two field goals, one of them is a fifty seven yarder,
- 18:12Speaker 5: and you know, in the half, we all know it
- 18:14Speaker 5: was raining, so who knows what's going to happen when.
- 18:16Speaker 4: It rains, Cardona looking at you.
- 18:19Speaker 5: I thought the first game, despite the mistakes, that to
- 18:23Speaker 5: me was the baby steps, like this was better than
- 18:25Speaker 5: last year. Like we're moving the ball four hundred plus
- 18:27Speaker 5: yards down in the red zone like five times, six times,
- 18:31Speaker 5: maybe even like that to me was the encouraging and
- 18:34Speaker 5: I think they kind of backslid the last two weeks.
- 18:36Speaker 6: I think part of my positivity too, though, is I
- 18:38Speaker 6: I have resuscitated my optimism of Bill O'Brien and the
- 18:42Speaker 6: offense getting better as the season goes. And I think
- 18:44Speaker 6: kind of, you know, from comparison, which you know, I
- 18:49Speaker 6: don't know what it would have built towards last year,
- 18:52Speaker 6: but I know that the players didn't really seem to
- 18:54Speaker 6: buy into it, so I think it got kind of
- 18:55Speaker 6: undercut and and they didn't show that development for you know,
- 18:59Speaker 6: and to be fair, it's been a few years that
- 19:00Speaker 6: you've really seen them peak at the end of the season.
- 19:02Speaker 6: But that's kind of what I'm holding out hope for still.
- 19:04Speaker 6: And I think, you know, it kind of connects to
- 19:06Speaker 6: what Evan said yesterday of you know, there are plays
- 19:08Speaker 6: there to be made, and if you believe that the
- 19:10Speaker 6: offensive line can start to block a little bit and
- 19:12Speaker 6: then maybe they can produce those points. But I think
- 19:14Speaker 6: you're right. I mean I talk sometimes in these like
- 19:16Speaker 6: big kind of story narrative storylines of you know, can
- 19:19Speaker 6: you beat a playoff time when you boil it down?
- 19:21Speaker 5: Though you're right, it's just can you put up I
- 19:23Speaker 5: do I do share your enthusiasm in your faith in
- 19:27Speaker 5: that it will get better, whereas I never felt that
- 19:29Speaker 5: last year. I think that they have a well orchestrated plan,
- 19:35Speaker 5: let's put it that way. I don't know if the
- 19:36Speaker 5: players are good enough to execute. I think Evan said
- 19:38Speaker 5: that yesterday about the chunk plays. Everybody's saying, wow, you know,
- 19:42Speaker 5: they got to try to get it downfield. I don't
- 19:43Speaker 5: know if they have the pieces to do that. But
- 19:45Speaker 5: I do know that Philip Bryant will have more Pharaoh
- 19:48Speaker 5: Brown touchdowns, more examples of plays like that in different
- 19:52Speaker 5: ways periodically, just like Josh McDaniels did two years ago.
- 19:56Speaker 1: What bothers me most about this game coming up is,
- 20:00Speaker 1: I think you're gonna have to score points. I don't
- 20:02Speaker 1: think you're gonna win it with less than twenty points.
- 20:06Speaker 1: And I in week four, I still don't know who
- 20:10Speaker 1: our reliable receivers are. Who are the guys that you
- 20:13Speaker 1: can count on. I think you can count on Hunter
- 20:15Speaker 1: Henry to do what he does.
- 20:18Speaker 5: And you know that's really kind of it.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Yeah, in terms of you know, in the passing game,
- 20:23Speaker 1: who are the guys everybody that Matt can rely on?
- 20:26Speaker 1: And no one's emerged yet.
- 20:28Speaker 8: No, you guy's not seen like a little bit from
- 20:30Speaker 8: Kendrick starting to.
- 20:32Speaker 4: He's not consistent.
- 20:32Speaker 1: It's not consistent enough. Yeah.
- 20:34Speaker 4: Yeah, their receiving corps has played at like one of
- 20:38Speaker 4: the worst in the league two or three weeks. I
- 20:41Speaker 4: mean they they make no plays on the ball, like
- 20:44Speaker 4: no plays I can and I understand that sometimes you know,
- 20:47Speaker 4: the throw could be a little bit better here or there.
- 20:49Speaker 4: But every week you go and you watch these other teams,
- 20:51Speaker 4: and these receivers are are making catches outside their frame
- 20:54Speaker 4: for the quarterback, right, They're making these contested catches, catching
- 20:57Speaker 4: back shoulders, catching balls over their heads. They don't make
- 21:01Speaker 4: those types of plays down the field for the quarterback here,
- 21:04Speaker 4: let alone get open against man coverage like that would
- 21:06Speaker 4: obviously be the most important thing, the most stable thing
- 21:10Speaker 4: that you can do week in and week out. But
- 21:12Speaker 4: they're not even making plays on the ball. Yeah.
- 21:15Speaker 6: I would have liked to see Parker week one though,
- 21:16Speaker 6: because I think he might have had some opportunities. I mean,
- 21:18Speaker 6: that's his thing, like he can do that. You know,
- 21:20Speaker 6: he hasn't done it. No, I know, it's been two games.
- 21:22Speaker 6: You know it's and everything guys are saying is right,
- 21:25Speaker 6: But you know, again, sample size three games in. You know,
- 21:28Speaker 6: you've had some bodies moving around too, So I mean,
- 21:30Speaker 6: I'm I know what it is, but I know that
- 21:31Speaker 6: that's something that they have in the bag with Parker
- 21:33Speaker 6: and some of the downfields.
- 21:35Speaker 5: I don't know for sure, but I think that they
- 21:36Speaker 5: feel like Parker is that that number one guy. I
- 21:39Speaker 5: think that's a.
- 21:40Speaker 6: Mistake, yeah, because I would, Oh, we've been saying that
- 21:42Speaker 6: for two years, right.
- 21:43Speaker 5: I mean I think that there are times where, you know,
- 21:45Speaker 5: every once in a while, he'll go out and he'll
- 21:47Speaker 5: catch six or seven and two or three of them
- 21:49Speaker 5: will be exactly the way you're talking about, and you'd
- 21:51Speaker 5: be like, wow, there's some plays. Yeah, you know, like
- 21:53Speaker 5: five for one to twenty five against Baltimore last year
- 21:56Speaker 5: with like two or three really nice contested catch is
- 22:00Speaker 5: near the sideline. But then you know, the next three
- 22:02Speaker 5: games it's nothing. And I think it's kind of similar
- 22:05Speaker 5: with Kendrick Bourne. Like the first game he catches two
- 22:07Speaker 5: beautiful touchdowns and you're like, oh, okay, the next game
- 22:10Speaker 5: he's a bit player, and then the next game, you know,
- 22:13Speaker 5: they didn't really throw the ball. I'm not blaming Born
- 22:14Speaker 5: for that. You know, we threw the ball twenty nine times.
- 22:18Speaker 5: But he's been kind of quiet.
- 22:19Speaker 1: But I find myself like kind of resting my hope
- 22:22Speaker 1: on two rookies and a guy who's always hurt and
- 22:26Speaker 1: tort You.
- 22:27Speaker 4: Know, Parker is interesting to me. I wonder you know
- 22:30Speaker 4: now he's this is the story with him, Like he
- 22:32Speaker 4: had a good training camp. I thought he was great
- 22:35Speaker 4: in Green Bay. Like he made some really good plays
- 22:37Speaker 4: in the joint practices. Yeah yeah, and then he gets
- 22:39Speaker 4: hurt and and it's off the rails, like he d
- 22:43Speaker 4: throw that Mac threw to him on third down on
- 22:46Speaker 4: the little corner route, Like that effort's not good enough,
- 22:50Speaker 4: Like he got the throw could have been a little
- 22:52Speaker 4: bit better. Sure, But like I just said it, like
- 22:55Speaker 4: every once in a while, like someone's got to make
- 22:56Speaker 4: a play on the ball for the quarterback.
- 22:58Speaker 5: And they'll hit some of these. They'll they'll like that
- 23:00Speaker 5: was an example, the one to Dug.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Get a flag.
- 23:03Speaker 5: Well oh yeah, yeah, well again they should have gotten
- 23:05Speaker 5: a flag, Douglas one. But I think that they'll they'll
- 23:08Speaker 5: hit some of these eventually. They're not going to go
- 23:11Speaker 5: the whole year without being able to get any any
- 23:14Speaker 5: product production down the.
- 23:15Speaker 6: Field, but just some consistency. I think, to Fred's point,
- 23:17Speaker 6: like can we just get somebody who you know, just
- 23:19Speaker 6: starts to stack a few games together where good game,
- 23:22Speaker 6: good game, good game not And sometimes I wonder if
- 23:25Speaker 6: it's related to the way they approach things with their
- 23:26Speaker 6: game plan of you know, and which I don't really
- 23:28Speaker 6: like sometimes, like I feel like guys want to get
- 23:30Speaker 6: in there and have consistency and know what kind of
- 23:33Speaker 6: opportunities they're going to get and not be like, oh,
- 23:35Speaker 6: I'm out of the game plan this week. I'm not
- 23:36Speaker 6: as invested if I get, you know, my seven snaps
- 23:39Speaker 6: and I want to play a lot.
- 23:40Speaker 5: I think that bothers born a little bit. Yeah, how
- 23:43Speaker 5: how he's sort of yo yo is back and forth
- 23:45Speaker 5: with usage.
- 23:46Speaker 4: I agree, yeah, yeah, all right.
- 23:49Speaker 1: A five to five PATS five hundred is the A
- 23:51Speaker 1: Sticket hotline web radio at patriot dot com is the
- 23:54Speaker 1: excuse me wow email address. Let's go to the fort
- 23:58Speaker 1: over there. H Tyler's don't know, he's just listening what
- 24:02Speaker 1: I like to listen.
- 24:03Speaker 7: He said he has bad service that can't listen to show.
- 24:06Speaker 1: So you just wanted to call one of our lives.
- 24:10Speaker 1: We're here to serve. Todd's in North Carolina.
- 24:13Speaker 9: What's up time, I guess since Tyler's doing that, I'll
- 24:16Speaker 9: make this really quick. I saw some stuff on the
- 24:19Speaker 9: sideline where Bill Coach Bill was talking. Head Coach Bill
- 24:23Speaker 9: was talking to Mac the fair time, and then a
- 24:26Speaker 9: couple of times I saw Brian talking to him, and
- 24:27Speaker 9: then all of a sudden, head coach Bill comes up
- 24:29Speaker 9: and talks to him again. It almost seems like to
- 24:32Speaker 9: me that our head coach, you know, mister Belichick, wants
- 24:36Speaker 9: the ophense to play not to lose instead of playing
- 24:39Speaker 9: to win. And I'm worried about that because if you
- 24:42Speaker 9: that approach, I don't think is feasible. And you guys
- 24:45Speaker 9: want people to step up and you know, take the
- 24:47Speaker 9: roles and you know, get to build the confidence. I
- 24:49Speaker 9: don't think it'll.
- 24:50Speaker 10: Work if they have that approach.
- 24:51Speaker 9: So did I see things wrong or you know, what
- 24:54Speaker 9: do you guys?
- 24:54Speaker 1: I think in the last game they were definitely playing
- 24:57Speaker 1: not to lose. They were playing very conservative.
- 24:59Speaker 5: But I'm also going off of history, and I don't
- 25:01Speaker 5: know about Laska. I don't know that whole. The only
- 25:04Speaker 5: thing I saw was he told Mac good job. I
- 25:06Speaker 5: know on one of the players. I think he ran
- 25:08Speaker 5: and then there was a time out and he went
- 25:09Speaker 5: over and I think he lifted up his headset and
- 25:11Speaker 5: said good job, and then they moved somewhere else. So
- 25:15Speaker 5: I don't know, I'm not reading into that, but I
- 25:17Speaker 5: think this happened last year. You know, when Mac was
- 25:21Speaker 5: turning the ball over a lot early in the year.
- 25:23Speaker 5: Then he got hurt, and the hatchetman, Mike Lombardi came
- 25:26Speaker 5: out and told you how it's going to be out
- 25:28Speaker 5: of the league and lose his job if he continues
- 25:31Speaker 5: to turn the ball over. And when he came back,
- 25:33Speaker 5: he no longer was throwing the ball all over the
- 25:35Speaker 5: yard the way he was the first three weeks, which
- 25:37Speaker 5: was great statistically because he was no longer turning the
- 25:40Speaker 5: ball over. But I don't think the offense ever looked
- 25:43Speaker 5: as really aside from maybe one night in Minnesota, I
- 25:47Speaker 5: don't think the offense ever looked as dangerous as it
- 25:49Speaker 5: did against Baltimore.
- 25:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, he does lead the league in deep
- 25:53Speaker 4: pass attempts, so you can cry, so you can say
- 25:56Speaker 4: that they're conservative and get I get the general the
- 25:59Speaker 4: general take, but when you throw the ball in three weeks,
- 26:03Speaker 4: you throw the ball twenty plus yards sixteen times and
- 26:05Speaker 4: lead the league in deep passes.
- 26:07Speaker 5: That's a fair thing.
- 26:08Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know if that's like really necessarily conservative.
- 26:12Speaker 5: I don't think that's necessarily I think that they're more
- 26:14Speaker 5: concerned with not turning the ball over than anything else.
- 26:16Speaker 5: But that is certainly a counterpoint to that mentality. Yeah,
- 26:20Speaker 5: you can't lead the league in deep passes and then say, well,
- 26:23Speaker 5: you know, I mean, I would argue that deep passes
- 26:25Speaker 5: aren't necessarily dangerous passes, if that makes any sense, but
- 26:31Speaker 5: they shouldn't be. Yeah. Now, I would also say, to
- 26:34Speaker 5: combat my own argument that I thought he threw a
- 26:36Speaker 5: number of passes that were not like wide open the
- 26:39Speaker 5: other day. Oh yeah, and he completed some of them.
- 26:41Speaker 5: Some of them got knocked down and some of them
- 26:43Speaker 5: got completed. So he wasn't necessarily, you know, going out
- 26:47Speaker 5: of his way to be too safe with the ball.
- 26:49Speaker 5: So we'll see it. It was, like Fred said, it
- 26:51Speaker 5: was one game, we'll see if it continues to be
- 26:54Speaker 5: a trend.
- 26:55Speaker 4: I think when you know, we were sitting there in
- 26:56Speaker 4: the second half in the press box and you just
- 26:59Speaker 4: you felt like there was that mentality that Zack Wilson's
- 27:03Speaker 4: not scoring two touchdowns against us, right Like, we're just
- 27:08Speaker 4: keep punting. We're up ten points and there's no way
- 27:11Speaker 4: in hell the quarterback on the other side is scoring
- 27:13Speaker 4: fourteen against our defense and in a quarter and a half,
- 27:15Speaker 4: it's just not happening.
- 27:17Speaker 5: So they could still be playing and the town in.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Some ways, like you can't blame them for it now.
- 27:22Speaker 4: It almost burned them, right like, And that was what
- 27:25Speaker 4: I was kind of going after yesterday. But at the
- 27:27Speaker 4: same time, like, I can't really blame them for thinking.
- 27:30Speaker 6: That it's It's not a strategy that's going to work
- 27:32Speaker 6: against a lot of teams in the league. I mean
- 27:34Speaker 6: maybe one that might that might be the only that
- 27:36Speaker 6: might be.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Let's go to Edward in Myrtle Beach. What's up Edward? Hey?
- 27:43Speaker 11: It was going on, guys, how were you good?
- 27:46Speaker 10: Hey?
- 27:47Speaker 11: I think this this game on Sunday against the Cowboys,
- 27:49Speaker 11: and I'll be quick and take your answer off the air.
- 27:53Speaker 11: I think this game against the Cowboys could be really
- 27:56Speaker 11: a turnaround game. I mean, you get to two and two,
- 28:00Speaker 11: you find a way to win that game, and then
- 28:02Speaker 11: you got the Saints at home, who knows what's going
- 28:04Speaker 11: on with with car And then you got the Raiders
- 28:09Speaker 11: on the road. Yeah, if they get this game against
- 28:11Speaker 11: the Cowboys, they're two and two, they might have a
- 28:14Speaker 11: legitimate chance they get to four and two. I mean,
- 28:17Speaker 11: not to you know, get aheadad of ourselves, but way good.
- 28:21Speaker 5: Yeah, those are coin flip games. I totally agree. You
- 28:24Speaker 5: have an opportunity to go where the other team is
- 28:27Speaker 5: not discernibly better than you the way you know it
- 28:31Speaker 5: has been the first four weeks, So I agree. But
- 28:34Speaker 5: I would put those games in the coin flippy.
- 28:38Speaker 4: If we came into this season and with the schedule
- 28:42Speaker 4: of being what it was, and obviously pre Rogers injury,
- 28:45Speaker 4: if I had told you in in August that they'd
- 28:47Speaker 4: be two and two after the first four of the games.
- 28:50Speaker 5: Sign up, that's what a lot of the locals thought.
- 28:52Speaker 1: I thought.
- 28:52Speaker 5: I thought it was kind of wishful thinking. But I
- 28:54Speaker 5: also didn't know that Rogers.
- 28:55Speaker 4: Was going to get hurt, right, so that one, obviously,
- 28:57Speaker 4: you know, is a break. But if they be Dallas
- 29:00Speaker 4: and now they're two and two coming out of the
- 29:02Speaker 4: first four, you gave yourself a chance.
- 29:04Speaker 5: I would have said one and three, and I would
- 29:06Speaker 5: have said they'll find a way to win one of
- 29:09Speaker 5: those games that the other team is going to be
- 29:11Speaker 5: favored in now two and two is finding a way
- 29:16Speaker 5: to win one of those games that the other teams playing.
- 29:18Speaker 1: But don't you think that Before the Jets game, people
- 29:21Speaker 1: were like, you have to beat the Jets because you're
- 29:23Speaker 1: not going to be able to beat Dallas. But that's changed,
- 29:26Speaker 1: that's changed.
- 29:27Speaker 5: Yeah, the Jets was a must win. I mean yeah,
- 29:30Speaker 5: I think I totally do Fred's mentality. I totally everybody
- 29:36Speaker 5: was saying in that Well, I don't know why it's changed. Yeah,
- 29:39Speaker 5: Fred's right. Everybody has said that, and I.
- 29:41Speaker 6: Think it's worth just saying like ahead of time that
- 29:43Speaker 6: you know, I don't think that the Cowboys are, you know,
- 29:45Speaker 6: this great juggernaut or anything like this, but this is
- 29:47Speaker 6: still a game that these Patriots haven't been won.
- 29:48Speaker 1: And five, the Cowboys don't really have that big home
- 29:51Speaker 1: advantage home field advantage now. They their record at home
- 29:55Speaker 1: is not great.
- 29:56Speaker 6: I just think, like you got it, like you said,
- 29:58Speaker 6: baby steps, but this is just not a game that
- 30:00Speaker 6: they've won the last couple of years. So to get
- 30:02Speaker 6: this win, it's not going to mean hey we're back, baby,
- 30:05Speaker 6: but I think it could really go a long way
- 30:06Speaker 6: to say hey we we can start to beat these
- 30:08Speaker 6: teams that are good.
- 30:10Speaker 1: You have to see the game, how the.
- 30:14Speaker 6: Yeah, no, I mean that's fair too. But I also
- 30:16Speaker 6: think just even like last week was you just got
- 30:19Speaker 6: to beat the Jets, It's like I'll just I'll take
- 30:20Speaker 6: a win over a good team. However it looks, you know,
- 30:23Speaker 6: because they just haven't been able to win those games
- 30:25Speaker 6: in any of that fashion. Yeah, other than like the
- 30:27Speaker 6: Bills win game, you know, like that one, all right,
- 30:30Speaker 6: there you go, that's a you know, asterisk kind of
- 30:32Speaker 6: game of well we have to talk about the weather.
- 30:34Speaker 6: But I don't think there'll be anything like that in
- 30:36Speaker 6: this game. I mean it should be pretty straight up.
- 30:38Speaker 4: I mean, they definitely have a pretty distinct talent disadvantage
- 30:42Speaker 4: in this game. And that's sort of like the one thing,
- 30:44Speaker 4: like there's a chance to get Boat Rays, Like there's
- 30:46Speaker 4: a chance that Dallas is just they have a lot
- 30:48Speaker 4: more talent than the Patriots, especially on offense, but even defensively,
- 30:53Speaker 4: Like Michael Parsons is the best player in the game,
- 30:55Speaker 4: and he's a cowboy, So there's a chance that the
- 30:57Speaker 4: talent gap is too much. But I just think that
- 30:59Speaker 4: the coaching app in this particular matchup. I actually think
- 31:02Speaker 4: that they'll allow couch them. I think they have an
- 31:04Speaker 4: advantage there.
- 31:05Speaker 3: You know what.
- 31:05Speaker 6: Actually, one more thing I wanted to just bring up
- 31:07Speaker 6: that I remember was interesting to me. So Schottenheimer's their
- 31:10Speaker 6: offensive coordinator. And I remember a clip from Eric Mangini
- 31:13Speaker 6: when he went to the Jets and he hired Schottenheimer
- 31:17Speaker 6: as his offensive coordinator, and I remember him talking about
- 31:20Speaker 6: specifically liking Schottenheimer against the Patriots defense because and this
- 31:24Speaker 6: is of course going back to two thousand and six,
- 31:26Speaker 6: so I mean it's a while, but specifically like the
- 31:29Speaker 6: amount of pre snap motion and the amount of communication
- 31:32Speaker 6: that Schottenheimer's offense forced upon the Patriots defense. And I
- 31:37Speaker 6: remember maybe you've heard this term. This is something I know.
- 31:39Speaker 6: The Patriots defense is rule based, and he said every
- 31:43Speaker 6: time they move, every time we shift, there's eleven communications
- 31:47Speaker 6: that have to happen. So if we move two or
- 31:49Speaker 6: three times, there's thirty three communications. And that was part
- 31:52Speaker 6: of it fed into twenty ten two with the Browns
- 31:54Speaker 6: when he was able to beat the Patriots as well.
- 31:56Speaker 6: So I just I thought it was kind of interesting
- 31:58Speaker 6: in terms of Schottenheimer. Can you even to kick around
- 32:00Speaker 6: if you're an offensive cordinator, you can work forever, I guess.
- 32:04Speaker 6: But it was something that Mangini, someone from inside the system,
- 32:07Speaker 6: kind of liked against the Patriots defense. For whatever it's worth.
- 32:09Speaker 4: At this point, I haven't done much of that. Yeah,
- 32:11Speaker 4: through three weeks, because I think this is McCarthy's offense.
- 32:15Speaker 4: I don't think this is Schottenheimer's offense.
- 32:17Speaker 6: That's fair and.
- 32:18Speaker 4: So Shotenheimer is is a West Coast guy. He's a
- 32:21Speaker 4: Shanahan Tree coach.
- 32:22Speaker 6: Yeah, the twenty second in motion.
- 32:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know. I mean, maybe, like I agree
- 32:27Speaker 4: that there are ways that they could change their their
- 32:29Speaker 4: stripes and that would hurt the Patriots maybe, but not
- 32:33Speaker 4: based off of the things I've seen in the first
- 32:35Speaker 4: three weeks.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Ethan's in Kentucky. What's up? Ethan? Hey?
- 32:39Speaker 10: Guys, what's going on?
- 32:40Speaker 6: Ethan?
- 32:42Speaker 9: Hey?
- 32:42Speaker 12: I got a couple of skiing questions for of and
- 32:44Speaker 12: I'll try to make it.
- 32:45Speaker 13: Shorter than what it sounds like in my head.
- 32:47Speaker 12: But I was wondering as far as on the zone
- 32:50Speaker 12: or gamble team. So what does Bill o'bron predominantly?
- 32:54Speaker 10: What does he ran this year?
- 32:56Speaker 4: Wait? Sorry?
- 32:56Speaker 1: What was that? There was Zodor gap scheme.
- 33:00Speaker 4: So they were pretty balanced the first two weeks, but
- 33:04Speaker 4: they were predominantly gap last week, which I don't think
- 33:07Speaker 4: was a mistake or acquainted.
- 33:09Speaker 12: A second part of this and then I'll take it
- 33:12Speaker 12: off there as far as like the correlation between when
- 33:17Speaker 12: the zone or when we're in the gun is the
- 33:20Speaker 12: zone under center of gas game like I'll say that.
- 33:24Speaker 12: I say this a coach in Western.
- 33:25Speaker 13: Stick you and the Tony Franklin system's kind of taken
- 33:28Speaker 13: over like the spread office, and it seems like predominantly
- 33:31Speaker 13: which I know as a lot of different levels predominantly
- 33:34Speaker 13: though in the gun single back stuff, it's always going
- 33:36Speaker 13: to be zoned, and I was wondering, like if we
- 33:38Speaker 13: have any tales like that or is it pretty much
- 33:41Speaker 13: mixed up?
- 33:42Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a fair question. Yeah. So they run a
- 33:44Speaker 4: lot of inside zone from the gun because they run
- 33:46Speaker 4: a lot of RPO with it, so they'll run a
- 33:49Speaker 4: lot of inside zone, But they also run a lot
- 33:51Speaker 4: of trap right, like influenced trap. So I don't know,
- 33:54Speaker 4: it's a little bit of both, but I would say
- 33:57Speaker 4: last week they definitely got back to let's get downhill,
- 34:01Speaker 4: Let's get man on a man. Uh, double teams in
- 34:03Speaker 4: the middle of the line. Obviously the full back was
- 34:06Speaker 4: part of the of the equation. Again, you know, like
- 34:09Speaker 4: a lot more of that type of stuff against the Jets,
- 34:12Speaker 4: which I think is not a mistake. I think that
- 34:14Speaker 4: that will probably continue. But you know, in terms of
- 34:18Speaker 4: the gun, they have not been a very good gun
- 34:20Speaker 4: run team. Whether that's because of the backs or because
- 34:23Speaker 4: of the blocking or because of both, they haven't really
- 34:25Speaker 4: been very productive running the football out of the gun.
- 34:29Speaker 12: So it scares me about Dallas is you know, if
- 34:31Speaker 12: we are if we do have that tail sign that
- 34:33Speaker 12: weren't the gun and ins on of his own, like
- 34:35Speaker 12: a lot of stuff we do to try to stop,
- 34:36Speaker 12: which again I know it's a lot different like double
- 34:38Speaker 12: on the one technique, a lot of a lot of
- 34:40Speaker 12: stun and I know Dallas gets pretty creative.
- 34:42Speaker 13: Upfront, which would make it harder to get those doubles
- 34:44Speaker 13: to backers.
- 34:46Speaker 4: Yeah. No, they they they slant their line a ton
- 34:49Speaker 4: like That's that's what Dallas does. They they slant their line,
- 34:52Speaker 4: so they're they're trying to knife guys into gaps and
- 34:55Speaker 4: get up the field, and so that's what you know,
- 34:58Speaker 4: to combat that. Uh, the Cardinals used a lot of
- 35:01Speaker 4: misdirection or a lot of pin poll really to kind
- 35:04Speaker 4: of like fold the line, so invite them up the
- 35:05Speaker 4: field and then pull them through. And that was really effective.
- 35:09Speaker 4: So I think that this is another week where you
- 35:12Speaker 4: want to try to get some some gap schemes going,
- 35:14Speaker 4: try to get some downhill polars and things like that
- 35:17Speaker 4: and and let them get up the field, you know,
- 35:19Speaker 4: maybe basically invite them. But that guy knows his ball.
- 35:22Speaker 4: That was good.
- 35:25Speaker 5: Back to the Cardinals and you said they used a
- 35:27Speaker 5: lot of pin and pull. I did a little did
- 35:28Speaker 5: a little research on that guy. Their offensive Rember.
- 35:33Speaker 4: I was like offensive, that makes me.
- 35:36Speaker 5: Less but yeah, right, I was gonna say dan Zig.
- 35:41Speaker 6: Like the band.
- 35:41Speaker 5: Yeah, So I don't know, it was something like that.
- 35:45Speaker 5: I haven't looked it up.
- 35:46Speaker 4: Yesterday Dan dan Petsing Petsing Pets, But yeah, there. Their
- 35:53Speaker 4: run game is Cardinals run game is fun. They do
- 35:56Speaker 4: a lot of different things.
- 35:58Speaker 3: Uh.
- 35:58Speaker 4: They they gashed them on a on a z Own wineback,
- 36:00Speaker 4: which is like one of my favorite plays, and they
- 36:03Speaker 4: got him on a lot of different things that they
- 36:05Speaker 4: were good.
- 36:06Speaker 5: So I just looked up to and Fred you mentioned
- 36:08Speaker 5: the home home field thing for Dallas and You're not
- 36:11Speaker 5: the first person in this building that has said that
- 36:13Speaker 5: to me this week. And I'm just curious, like what
- 36:16Speaker 5: we're basing that on. Like, they've been very good at
- 36:19Speaker 5: home lately. I believe they're on an eight game or
- 36:22Speaker 5: nine I think a nine game winning streak at home,
- 36:24Speaker 5: and they're fourteen and three like in the last seventeen
- 36:27Speaker 5: home games.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Like overall, if you look at their record at at
- 36:31Speaker 1: and T's But.
- 36:32Speaker 5: I'm just talking about the team that's playing right now,
- 36:35Speaker 5: Like overall, the Patriots are like one hundred and twenty
- 36:39Speaker 5: games over five hundred at Jillette Stadium, right, But this
- 36:41Speaker 5: team isn't. This team has had a real hard time
- 36:44Speaker 5: winning at home.
- 36:45Speaker 1: That's correct.
- 36:46Speaker 5: So you know, like Tom Brady never lost at Jillette Stadium,
- 36:48Speaker 5: but Mac Jones is having a hard time winning yet,
- 36:50Speaker 5: that's true. So the current team for the Cowboys is
- 36:54Speaker 5: like on a nine game winning streak at home.
- 36:56Speaker 4: Okay, don't you think that that stuff is always just
- 36:58Speaker 4: like good luck of the draw who playing like the
- 37:00Speaker 4: divisional game.
- 37:01Speaker 5: It certainly can be. Yeah, I mean.
- 37:04Speaker 4: Obviously if you look at it over like the course
- 37:06Speaker 4: of five ten years, maybe that's different.
- 37:08Speaker 5: But but last year they beat Cincinnati at home. Right now, again,
- 37:12Speaker 5: luck of the draw. They caught him early, Yeah, before
- 37:15Speaker 5: they had gotten their their footing.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Last time Patriots were there, they beat the Cowboys. Yeah,
- 37:23Speaker 1: Dean Lewis right for Lewis game correcting that.
- 37:26Speaker 5: But that's my point.
- 37:26Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a while ago.
- 37:27Speaker 5: Who played quarterback for Dallas Antonio Romo. It wasn't Dak
- 37:32Speaker 5: Prescott because that would be the starter you see in
- 37:37Speaker 5: the starter generally gets hurt.
- 37:39Speaker 4: Wait eight years isn't that like eight years ago? Now,
- 37:42Speaker 4: like that was a long time ago.
- 37:43Speaker 5: Now they did not have their starting quarterback in that game.
- 37:47Speaker 4: Oh, I was like, well, Dak was like in like
- 37:49Speaker 4: middle school or something.
- 37:50Speaker 5: So I was just I mean, I don't know if
- 37:52Speaker 5: it was Romo hurt. Romo must have been hurt because
- 37:54Speaker 5: he didn't.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Play, framing him writes in with all due respect to
- 37:58Speaker 1: Evan Lazarre, belittling the Cowboy his offense is like thinking
- 38:01Speaker 1: on a kid with zits at his face. The Cowboys
- 38:04Speaker 1: two years ago scored thirty four points and through for
- 38:06Speaker 1: more than five hundred year.
- 38:07Speaker 4: It's a different offensive coordinator, that's my point.
- 38:10Speaker 1: And this Patriots offense in twenty twenty three works just
- 38:12Speaker 1: as well as the train services in Boston. Stay on
- 38:16Speaker 1: planet Earth, Evan.
- 38:18Speaker 4: It's a different offensive coordinator. I said that at the
- 38:20Speaker 4: beginning of the day. You know what I hate like
- 38:23Speaker 4: people not people don't listen. Yeah, hey, Kellen Moore is
- 38:25Speaker 4: not there anymore. Kellen Moore, as Mike McCarthy told you,
- 38:28Speaker 4: wants to light up the scoreboard. He's a former quarterback.
- 38:31Speaker 4: He's thirty five years old.
- 38:32Speaker 5: By the way, the worst out outing that Charters Savann
- 38:35Speaker 5: is twenty eight.
- 38:36Speaker 4: They are as he's a spread gun. Let's rip it
- 38:40Speaker 4: and grip it and rip it offensive coordinator. Now they
- 38:43Speaker 4: like to run the ball and they're not as good.
- 38:46Speaker 5: That would have been Brandon Whedon for those of you wondering, oh, who.
- 38:49Speaker 6: Is like twenty seven? When he got drafted in Yes,
- 38:52Speaker 6: through f one hundred and eighty seven yards and a pick.
- 38:56Speaker 6: Whatever happened like this is like just popped into my head.
- 38:58Speaker 6: What happened in their tight end that they have that
- 39:00Speaker 6: was pretty good?
- 39:02Speaker 5: Houston, where do you go? I didn't even realize signed
- 39:05Speaker 5: they have Jake Ferguson.
- 39:06Speaker 6: Mary Cooper to then yeah he was good, uh in
- 39:11Speaker 6: that game in our game and not in the nineteen
- 39:13Speaker 6: game or.
- 39:15Speaker 5: Oh in the twenty one game.
- 39:16Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I think that's a big part of it.
- 39:18Speaker 4: They don't have like Michael Gallup is you know, because
- 39:22Speaker 4: Brandon Cooks has been hurt, like getting out of the lineup.
- 39:25Speaker 4: He's probably gonna play on Sunday. But I don't think
- 39:28Speaker 4: he's really like.
- 39:29Speaker 5: Climent, but he's like a secondary guy.
- 39:32Speaker 4: He's like the favorite, but I don't think he's really
- 39:35Speaker 4: found his footing in Dallas yet either. So Gallip will
- 39:38Speaker 4: once again, I'll have a great like DeVante Parker sideline
- 39:42Speaker 4: contested grab right, but he's not really a consistent guy either.
- 39:45Speaker 4: So outside of Lamb, like they are kind of searching
- 39:48Speaker 4: for some secondary receiver options.
- 39:51Speaker 5: This is on deck because if he does that, he
- 39:54Speaker 5: just says, I'm just gonna make sure that I do
- 39:56Speaker 5: CD Lamb. Then that's not gonna work well for them.
- 39:58Speaker 5: That's not a good formula against the Patriots. But you know,
- 40:02Speaker 5: Gallup had seven for ninety two the other day. I
- 40:04Speaker 5: think if he does a little of that, yeah, that's
- 40:06Speaker 5: where you make your hay against the Patriots.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:08Speaker 4: Well, so the first the matchup, along with Callen Moore changing,
- 40:12Speaker 4: they had Cooper and they had Lamb, so that Patriots
- 40:15Speaker 4: doubled Cooper, and I think they put Gilmour on Cooper
- 40:18Speaker 4: if I remember correctly in that game.
- 40:20Speaker 5: And I know that Jalen Mills was covering and Jalen
- 40:23Speaker 5: Mills over.
- 40:24Speaker 4: Right, Jalen Mills like single coverage on Ceede Lamb the
- 40:28Speaker 4: entire game and was beaten like a drum. So that's
- 40:31Speaker 4: it's a different offense than it was in twenty twenty one,
- 40:34Speaker 4: different coordinator, different personnel. I mean, I know it might set, yeah,
- 40:38Speaker 4: like I know it's still Dak, but it's mindset.
- 40:40Speaker 1: It's different junior from Canton. Is it just me? Or
- 40:44Speaker 1: have our tackles this year thoroughly outplayed our interior line.
- 40:47Speaker 1: If so, that doesn't see my ideal considering the interior
- 40:50Speaker 1: is the only part of the line Bill seems to
- 40:52Speaker 1: take seriously. On a positive note, Christian Gonzalez continues to
- 40:56Speaker 1: impress not sure what the route is called, but when
- 40:58Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson faked slit near the goal line it broke out.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Gonzo barely flinched and stuck with him the whole play
- 41:05Speaker 1: without touching it. I can't remember any corner we've had
- 41:08Speaker 1: since Reeves, who makes that play without holding a little
- 41:12Speaker 1: It's hard to believe that this was only his third game.
- 41:14Speaker 5: Cracked that whip Steph Gilmore. The tackles haven't been any better.
- 41:21Speaker 5: I mean, Trent Brown was really good on Sunday, but
- 41:24Speaker 5: the tackles haven't been consistently better. It's like that, what
- 41:29Speaker 5: was your stats for the right tackle last week? Eight
- 41:32Speaker 5: eight hurries to O show.
- 41:33Speaker 4: It's actually six hurries and two quarterback kids. I do
- 41:37Speaker 4: eight pressures.
- 41:37Speaker 6: I do really want to those strange, like, what was
- 41:40Speaker 6: that related to Linger? Is this the kind of thing?
- 41:43Speaker 6: I was kind of pissed too, because I I I was, uh, well,
- 41:47Speaker 6: I wasn't pissed. I was frustrated because they I heard
- 41:50Speaker 6: a teas on Felger Mass yesterday.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Let me pull back on that a little bit.
- 41:53Speaker 6: I heard a teas on Felberg and Mass like and
- 41:55Speaker 6: the one player that Greg Biard thinks should be benched,
- 41:57Speaker 6: and I was like, oh, I want to hear who
- 41:58Speaker 6: this was, and I didn't. I missed it.
- 41:59Speaker 5: So I was like it was it, Okay, that's big
- 42:06Speaker 5: market te right there. Because I normally, as you know,
- 42:08Speaker 5: don't care. But when they said that, I was like
- 42:10Speaker 5: Oh no, I was interested in that too.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Well.
- 42:13Speaker 6: I mean it's you know, I don't I mean, I
- 42:14Speaker 6: don't really need confirmation of of what I see. Like,
- 42:17Speaker 6: you know, I I've done this long enough that I have.
- 42:19Speaker 5: Confidence in it.
- 42:20Speaker 6: But it's always, you know, you see the game I
- 42:22Speaker 6: think certain ways, and that's like, you know, you come
- 42:23Speaker 6: away from watching it again and that's like the one
- 42:25Speaker 6: thing is like, god damn freaking cold, Strange is struggling,
- 42:29Speaker 6: you know, And thought David Andrews on him today was
- 42:33Speaker 6: kind of telling.
- 42:34Speaker 5: Oh, yeah, I worked really hard.
- 42:35Speaker 6: Yeah, And yesterday they had and Clem talked a little
- 42:39Speaker 6: bit about him of you know, there's one thing about practicing,
- 42:41Speaker 6: but there's another about like playing and getting into game shape. Yeah,
- 42:45Speaker 6: they're kind of laying that's. Yeah, they're laying that groundwork.
- 42:48Speaker 6: So I just I wonder if he's gonna, you know,
- 42:49Speaker 6: if they're gonna say, hey, let's sit him down and
- 42:51Speaker 6: let him get healthy.
- 42:53Speaker 1: You know.
- 42:53Speaker 6: I really hope it's not just like you're okay, but
- 42:55Speaker 6: we just can't play you right now. That would be
- 42:57Speaker 6: really uh.
- 42:57Speaker 4: I just don't know where he plays on the line,
- 42:59Speaker 4: Like I think center.
- 43:01Speaker 5: That's what Greg.
- 43:02Speaker 6: Greg said that was a possible another place you could go, right,
- 43:05Speaker 6: I mean, there's nowhere else to go, no one.
- 43:06Speaker 5: I could just imagine Greg and Evan in a room
- 43:09Speaker 5: together talking about the base. And he's a little too tall,
- 43:12Speaker 5: like you know, he's he's got a higher base. His
- 43:15Speaker 5: strength is like in his mid set guard. He's a
- 43:18Speaker 5: little bit too so like grip strength.
- 43:21Speaker 4: His anchors.
- 43:23Speaker 5: Yes, you guys want to.
- 43:25Speaker 4: I don't want to. I don't want to get into like.
- 43:26Speaker 5: Greg say the same You say the same thing, but
- 43:30Speaker 5: you both exactly lots.
- 43:32Speaker 4: So I read Greg on his his like you know,
- 43:35Speaker 4: breakdown of the game or whatever, and I agreed one
- 43:38Speaker 4: hundred percent with everything he said about cold strange. And
- 43:40Speaker 4: he said that Mafy at least, you know, is going
- 43:44Speaker 4: to get pushed back into the pockets like he can't move.
- 43:48Speaker 4: But at least he's not going to be you know right.
- 43:51Speaker 6: He might not be athletic enough, I think at least,
- 43:54Speaker 6: but just blown he walked back into the fire.
- 43:56Speaker 4: Right, he's going to be sturdy. When somebody tries to
- 44:02Speaker 4: power he looks like a mailbox.
- 44:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Well, the thing about Cole is like, if you've got
- 44:06Speaker 1: a strength disadvantage to begin with, and a bad knee.
- 44:10Speaker 6: Oh yeah, and you can't anchor again.
- 44:13Speaker 4: But his problem is pad level, Like he plays too
- 44:16Speaker 4: high for a guard. Ye, you know guards, they got
- 44:18Speaker 4: to sit down, Like you got to have really good
- 44:20Speaker 4: flexibility to be able to bend and sit down in
- 44:23Speaker 4: your chair and like and absorb contact. And he plays
- 44:27Speaker 4: too tall in his stance and so he's just on
- 44:30Speaker 4: skates whenever guys get get into his body and he
- 44:34Speaker 4: can't drop his anchor and center is probably like the
- 44:37Speaker 4: best for his body type is probably the best spot.
- 44:40Speaker 4: Like he has technically the measurables to play tackle, but
- 44:44Speaker 4: you can't really make that true. That's a huge transition.
- 44:47Speaker 4: That's like more of an off season.
- 44:48Speaker 5: Yeah thing he said that yesterday too, Like you wouldn't
- 44:51Speaker 5: be able to do it during the season, but down
- 44:53Speaker 5: the road and maybe next year. You know, that's David
- 44:56Speaker 5: Andrews defense. I mean, Jake Andrews hasn't been over.
- 45:00Speaker 4: Yeah, this is a cold Strange's situation is getting dicey,
- 45:06Speaker 4: like when we're we don't really throw the word bust
- 45:08Speaker 4: around here too often. We try not to, I feel like,
- 45:12Speaker 4: but you know that we're trending towards a position where
- 45:15Speaker 4: It's like for the betterment of the team, like they
- 45:19Speaker 4: might need to roll over.
- 45:20Speaker 5: We don't throw when they're still on it, No problem,
- 45:24Speaker 5: no problem, bust.
- 45:26Speaker 4: We Mafi might be the better player for this team.
- 45:29Speaker 4: It's you know, and I'm not saying that Cole Strange
- 45:31Speaker 4: cannot have an is not gonna have an NFL future
- 45:33Speaker 4: or anything like that, but for their issues and like
- 45:36Speaker 4: what they need to shore up, like he might be
- 45:39Speaker 4: the better option for this football team.

- 46:49Speaker 15: And we are back with the show within a show,
- 46:53Speaker 15: also known as the PU Halftime Show. I am joined
- 46:57Speaker 15: by Faith or l She's been on the show before.
- 47:00Speaker 3: Yes, I was on the first episode and then boot
- 47:02Speaker 3: it off until now.
- 47:03Speaker 15: Yeah. I told you'd be back. All right, We're gonna
- 47:06Speaker 15: start with some trivia for a Patriots on Filter T shirt. Faith,
- 47:10Speaker 15: don't answer the questions ready? Question one. In two thousand,
- 47:15Speaker 15: Tom Brady was the fourth quarterback on the New England
- 47:18Speaker 15: Patriots depth chart. Can you name the quarterback just ahead
- 47:21Speaker 15: of him? At number three?
- 47:23Speaker 3: Good question?
- 47:23Speaker 15: Were you even alive then?
- 47:24Speaker 3: I was born?
- 47:25Speaker 15: As question two? A linebacker out of Notre Dame who
- 47:30Speaker 15: was part of the Boston Patriots from nineteen sixty two
- 47:33Speaker 15: to nineteen sixty eight until he was traded to Miami
- 47:36Speaker 15: for the nineteen sixty nine season. Which player was this
- 47:39Speaker 15: that sound better? I worded that a little better?
- 47:41Speaker 3: Great?
- 47:41Speaker 1: All right?
- 47:42Speaker 15: Question three? Who was the Patriots first overall pick of
- 47:46Speaker 15: the nineteen eighty two NFL Draft?
- 47:48Speaker 3: Were you alive then?
- 47:49Speaker 15: Oh?
- 47:49Speaker 2: I was not.
- 47:50Speaker 15: I know some people think I might have been, but
- 47:52Speaker 15: I was not. All right, let's get into it. Faith
- 47:56Speaker 15: is our communications service, our digital services cour coordinator. Yes,
- 48:01Speaker 15: and she also does some part time work for New
- 48:04Speaker 15: England's other football team, the Boston Renegades.
- 48:07Speaker 3: Yes.
- 48:08Speaker 15: And was your role with them? Exactly?
- 48:09Speaker 3: I'm their director of content.
- 48:11Speaker 15: There you go, charge of everything, there you go. And
- 48:13Speaker 15: in her free time, she got inspired with this role
- 48:16Speaker 15: to start her own podcast called The Playmaker's Perspective. So
- 48:21Speaker 15: we're going to talk about a show within a show.
- 48:24Speaker 15: In the show within a show, absolutely, so Faith, tell
- 48:27Speaker 15: me about it. What's this about? When you started?
- 48:29Speaker 3: Yes? So honestly, I was inspired by Unfiltered. I used
- 48:33Speaker 3: to help Matt in the booth with the audio and
- 48:36Speaker 3: so just kind of sitting and listening to everybody talk
- 48:39Speaker 3: about the NFL, talk about the Patriots was kind of
- 48:42Speaker 3: inspiring to me. And I just know through the Boston
- 48:44Speaker 3: Renegades and women in my network in general, that a
- 48:47Speaker 3: lot of women would want a seat at a table
- 48:50Speaker 3: like this to talk about the league, to talk about
- 48:52Speaker 3: the NFL, And so yeah, the idea kind of came
- 48:55Speaker 3: from that, just wanting to kind of make that table
- 48:58Speaker 3: for women around football to kind of talk talk about
- 49:00Speaker 3: the game. Our mission statement is just to give women
- 49:04Speaker 3: football players and others involved in the game an outlet
- 49:06Speaker 3: to share their thoughts on the NFL through their unique
- 49:09Speaker 3: perspective as players and women around football. Our little tagline
- 49:13Speaker 3: is live the game, Talk the game, Elevate the game.
- 49:16Speaker 3: But yeah, we started right before the season kind of
- 49:19Speaker 3: got going. We did like a preview episode. I do
- 49:21Speaker 3: it with a running back on the Boston Renegades, Katie Falkowski.
- 49:25Speaker 3: She's amazing, She is awesome at what she does on
- 49:28Speaker 3: the football field and off the field. She's just a
- 49:32Speaker 3: super amazing personality and she's brought so much energy to
- 49:34Speaker 3: the podcast. So we did like a little preview of
- 49:37Speaker 3: like who we are, what our goal was then did
- 49:39Speaker 3: like a preseason recap and then yeah, we've been rolling
- 49:42Speaker 3: once a week. We post on Wednesdays and.
- 49:44Speaker 15: It's on Spotify and Apple, so this is easily accessible.
- 49:48Speaker 3: Yes, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and we're on Instagram.
- 49:51Speaker 15: There you go, so follow that. You also get a
- 49:53Speaker 15: bunch of Renegade players to join the podcast, right, you
- 49:57Speaker 15: got the quarterback? I don't remember her name off top
- 49:59Speaker 15: of my hand.
- 50:00Speaker 3: Yes, so we so far we've gotten Erica Adams, she's
- 50:03Speaker 3: a defensive back on the Renegades, and Ash Beckham, who
- 50:06Speaker 3: is an offensive lineman on the Boston Renegades. We do
- 50:09Speaker 3: have a lot of other players lined up. We're hoping
- 50:12Speaker 3: to get women also that aren't just football players, but
- 50:15Speaker 3: sports reporters, coaches, scouts, like anything anyone that's involved in
- 50:20Speaker 3: football we want to have on the podcast. But yeah,
- 50:23Speaker 3: hoping to get lots of Renegades players on there.
- 50:24Speaker 15: And how I don't want to disrespect how many consecutive
- 50:28Speaker 15: championships has it been for them?
- 50:29Speaker 3: So they just won their fifth straight?
- 50:32Speaker 15: Okay, guy, it's a fun league. Check it out. Patriots
- 50:36Speaker 15: have done a lot of collapse with them and as
- 50:39Speaker 15: I know, you guys started the podcast mostly doing Renegade
- 50:43Speaker 15: stuff and now it's going towards more NFL content. It's
- 50:46Speaker 15: the off season for the Renegades.
- 50:47Speaker 3: Correct, yees, So it's the off season for the Renegade.
- 50:49Speaker 3: So we are one NFL our Segments include things like
- 50:53Speaker 3: League round Up, just kind of news that's happening in
- 50:55Speaker 3: the league. We do predictions every week. I actually do.
- 50:58Speaker 3: Gotta have faith prediction.
- 51:00Speaker 15: Right, we have that coming for the end of this
- 51:01Speaker 15: little segment.
- 51:02Speaker 3: Oh good, good, And so we kind of talk about
- 51:04Speaker 3: how we did the previous week, but also you know
- 51:07Speaker 3: what game made us stop and watch this week? A
- 51:09Speaker 3: playmaker of the week. And then I do a little
- 51:11Speaker 3: photographer's perspective on just some content around the league. I
- 51:15Speaker 3: talked a lot about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey this past.
- 51:17Speaker 15: Week, all the topic around every outlet, of course.
- 51:20Speaker 3: But yeah, so we we are fully NFL podcast right now.
- 51:24Speaker 3: As the off season comes and the Renegade season actually
- 51:27Speaker 3: starts up, we probably will transition a little bit, but
- 51:30Speaker 3: we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
- 51:31Speaker 15: I mean, that's always fun. So Faith, Yes, what are
- 51:35Speaker 15: your predictions for the Thursday night game and the Pats game? Okay,
- 51:41Speaker 15: and what's your tag again, what is it?
- 51:43Speaker 3: Gotta have faith?
- 51:44Speaker 15: Gotta have faith? The gotta have faith picks for the
- 51:46Speaker 15: Thursday night game and the Pats game.
- 51:48Speaker 3: So for the Pats game, I picked the Patriots twenty
- 51:52Speaker 3: three to Cowboys twenty.
- 51:54Speaker 15: Okay, close.
- 51:55Speaker 3: So the whole point of the gotta have faith is
- 51:59Speaker 3: basically the only thing that's really riding on it is
- 52:02Speaker 3: you gotta have faith. You really got to just believe
- 52:04Speaker 3: that something can work out here, even though it probably won't.
- 52:09Speaker 3: I was currently one for two. I did pick the Lions.
- 52:12Speaker 15: Being the dead. I was there when you picked that.
- 52:14Speaker 3: Yes, that was the one that I got right, But yeah,
- 52:18Speaker 3: that's that's my prediction. I feel like the Patriots can
- 52:20Speaker 3: pull it out, I really do.
- 52:21Speaker 15: And who you got for Packers Lions? I think that's
- 52:24Speaker 15: the game. I was literally I'm going, I'm sure Packers
- 52:29Speaker 15: Lions this Thursday.
- 52:31Speaker 3: You know what. I'm still high on the Lions. I
- 52:33Speaker 3: feel like they're gonna pull it off.
- 52:35Speaker 15: Okay, They've had a couple of close games.
- 52:36Speaker 3: They have and I feel like, you know, they're kind
- 52:38Speaker 3: of hitting their stride. It is Packers Lions to confirm,
- 52:42Speaker 3: but I think they'll pull it off.
- 52:44Speaker 15: Okay, So what else can we talk about? We who are?
- 52:48Speaker 3: Who is?
- 52:49Speaker 15: Who's your dream guest for the show?
- 52:51Speaker 3: Dream guest? Oh my gosh, that's a great question. Well,
- 52:58Speaker 3: the quarterback for the Boston Renigades else and k Hill
- 53:00Speaker 3: definitely excited to have her on. She's she is the
- 53:03Speaker 3: Tom Brady of women's professional football. Tom Brady's actually the
- 53:07Speaker 3: Alison Kate Hill of men's professional football. But very excited
- 53:11Speaker 3: to have her on in the future. She is a
- 53:14Speaker 3: personal trainer. It's a trainer in her day to day job,
- 53:17Speaker 3: and so she's super busy. But we'll definitely have her
- 53:20Speaker 3: on if I was shooting for the moon. The president
- 53:24Speaker 3: of the Las Vegas Raiders, I mean, she's absolute queen.
- 53:27Speaker 3: I've met her when we went out to Vegas last
- 53:30Speaker 3: year and she's just amazing. So having her own be awesome.
- 53:32Speaker 15: We got we got to get some some connections together.
- 53:35Speaker 3: I know, we'll see we're just starting, we're just getting.
- 53:37Speaker 15: Rolling, and we got get Douce on it too.
- 53:39Speaker 3: Obviously, of course we'll have you on there too.
- 53:42Speaker 15: I'm down. I'm down. I don't know if I have
- 53:44Speaker 15: a fun tagline like keep the Faith though for my prediction.
- 53:48Speaker 15: All right, guys, so faith thank you for joining Playmaker's
- 53:52Speaker 15: Perspective available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts.
- 53:56Speaker 3: Yes, and at Playmaker's Perspective on Instagram.
- 53:58Speaker 15: So guys, give that a fall, give it a listen to,
- 54:02Speaker 15: and send your trivia answers into webra dot Patriots dot
- 54:05Speaker 15: com for a chance to win the Patriots on filtered
- 54:07Speaker 15: t shirt. You got to get rid of them so
- 54:09Speaker 15: we can get some.
- 54:10Speaker 3: New updated on one.
- 54:12Speaker 15: All right, let's get back to the show.
- 54:16Speaker 16: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, no
- 54:21Speaker 16: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 54:24Speaker 16: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 54:28Speaker 16: now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 54:33Speaker 5: And now great moments in.
- 54:37Speaker 15: History.
- 54:38Speaker 17: He said that there's an episode of Breaking Bad, which
- 54:40Speaker 17: I know you were a big fan of, yeah, which
- 54:42Speaker 17: had a cork sniffing incident in it, and they were
- 54:45Speaker 17: scolding you for not remembering that fact, and you conveniently
- 54:49Speaker 17: didn't read their email when they wrote into the show
- 54:51Speaker 17: about it.
- 54:51Speaker 1: So we're sourcing our source now is a fictional television No,
- 54:54Speaker 1: I'm saying that you you do you don't play both side.
- 54:57Speaker 6: You don't play it fairly.
- 54:58Speaker 17: Here the guy writes it and offering alternative evidence, and
- 55:01Speaker 17: you refuse to read it again.
- 55:03Speaker 1: Your evidence is a fictional television show.
- 55:05Speaker 4: That's not my evidence.
- 55:06Speaker 5: I'm just saying it is.
- 55:07Speaker 1: I'm sticking up to just use it, mister brown Cave.
- 55:10Speaker 5: I'm not using it as evidence.
- 55:11Speaker 17: I'm saying I'm sticking up for the guy who wrote
- 55:13Speaker 17: in and was saying that you should have remembered that.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Maybe I should have. I don't know. There was like
- 55:18Speaker 1: nine seasons, so I don't know. All I know is
- 55:20Speaker 1: that it's settled now. No, it's not. It courts. You know,
- 55:24Speaker 1: I was thinking that you should change your fundraiser from
- 55:27Speaker 1: a wine tasted to an ass taste. Wow, that was rude.
- 55:37Speaker 1: That's another great moment from all right back here in
- 55:42Speaker 1: Patriots on filtered eight five five PATS five hundred eight
- 55:45Speaker 1: at web radio, at Patriots dot com as the email address.
- 55:48Speaker 1: We gave away some T shirts during the halftime show.
- 55:52Speaker 5: I love the trivia question.
- 55:53Speaker 1: Yeah, well we're gonna read them. In two thousand, Tom
- 55:57Speaker 1: Brady was the fourth quarterback on the New England Patriots
- 55:59Speaker 1: Depth Show. Can you name the quarterback just ahead of
- 56:02Speaker 1: him at number three?
- 56:04Speaker 5: Michael Bishop?
- 56:05Speaker 1: That's correct, and the winner was Mike in I think
- 56:09Speaker 1: South Brunswick, New Jersey.
- 56:11Speaker 6: Michael Bishop wrote SBNJ.
- 56:13Speaker 4: Did Michael Bishop answer his own question? Said his name
- 56:16Speaker 4: is Mike?
- 56:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it could be a linebacker out of Notre Dame.
- 56:20Speaker 1: Which player was part of the Boston Patriots nineteen sixty
- 56:23Speaker 1: two to sixty eight until traded to Miami for the
- 56:27Speaker 1: nineteen sixty nine season.
- 56:29Speaker 5: My guess is it's Nick Bonacani.
- 56:30Speaker 1: And your guess is correct.
- 56:32Speaker 6: But I would loved him on inside the NFL.
- 56:34Speaker 1: When it was Ernest Chavez.
- 56:36Speaker 5: Way before my time, when it was what oh, the
- 56:39Speaker 5: winner was.
- 56:40Speaker 1: The winner Winter Winner? Chicken? Denn job uh. Finally, who
- 56:44Speaker 1: was the Patriots first overall pick of the nineteen eighty
- 56:48Speaker 1: two NFL draft?
- 56:51Speaker 5: Paul Afore Kenneth Simms.
- 56:54Speaker 1: Kenneth Simms is correct, SAMs. Ryan Dobson got that one right. Okay,
- 56:59Speaker 1: So Ryan, get rid of some of those T shirts.
- 57:01Speaker 5: They're all excels good stuff.
- 57:04Speaker 6: You're getting an excel by the way, speaking of inside
- 57:06Speaker 6: the NFL, have you guys watched that at all?
- 57:07Speaker 1: It's on?
- 57:09Speaker 6: Is it the upn What do I call that? Thirteen?
- 57:10Speaker 2: Now?
- 57:11Speaker 6: Is it upn C?
- 57:13Speaker 5: W C w which one is it?
- 57:15Speaker 1: Man?
- 57:15Speaker 6: Is that show going Downhill? Like that was my favorite
- 57:17Speaker 6: show growing up? That's all there was, you know, right,
- 57:20Speaker 6: and but you had like the NFL Films package, you
- 57:23Speaker 6: have the highlights of every game. And then I'm watching
- 57:25Speaker 6: it last night and I'm like, it's Chris Long, Channing Crowder,
- 57:29Speaker 6: they got what the old safety from the Steelers is
- 57:32Speaker 6: the host, but just no chemistry.
- 57:34Speaker 5: They've all got no was it?
- 57:36Speaker 6: He's on ESPN all the time, Ryan Clark, there was
- 57:41Speaker 6: one other guy, but they just had no chemistry. They're
- 57:43Speaker 6: all kind of dressed like in their own separate, specific ways,
- 57:46Speaker 6: and I was just like, this is not what I
- 57:48Speaker 6: remember growing up. They should be my favorite show, but
- 57:50Speaker 6: not anymore.
- 57:51Speaker 5: Yeah, that was a good show.
- 57:53Speaker 6: Loved it every week.
- 57:54Speaker 4: That nothing's as good as he used to be.
- 57:57Speaker 1: No, well, back then the word a lot of all
- 58:00Speaker 1: it is. If you wanted like a highlight package show,
- 58:03Speaker 1: that was it.
- 58:04Speaker 6: It was that and Berman on Sunday Night. You know
- 58:06Speaker 6: you watch Chris Burman original Primetime Prime Time was excellent
- 58:10Speaker 6: with Berman and Jackson. I still love hearing him on
- 58:13Speaker 6: the TV, like you know, when you just really get
- 58:15Speaker 6: I love it. It just brings me back to my youth,
- 58:17Speaker 6: Like like anytime I can watch him doing his little highlights,
- 58:19Speaker 6: I think, what Monday night before football he gets a
- 58:21Speaker 6: little segment. Now, yeah, well he enjoyed it, and you
- 58:24Speaker 6: could tell, yeah, some personality to That's why, Like.
- 58:26Speaker 1: When Romo first started, I thought he was a breath
- 58:29Speaker 1: of fresh air because like he seemed like he was
- 58:32Speaker 1: having fun and he was really into it. And now
- 58:34Speaker 1: it doesn't seem that way.
- 58:35Speaker 5: I thought it was decent.
- 58:36Speaker 4: The other day I didn't listen to Obviously we were
- 58:38Speaker 4: at the game, so I didn't hear the whole thing,
- 58:40Speaker 4: but some of his like the things that he says,
- 58:43Speaker 4: I just I don't know. I'm not like he blamed
- 58:47Speaker 4: like the the Unders throw on Pop Douglas. He was
- 58:50Speaker 4: like Pop Douglas ran the wrong route.
- 58:52Speaker 5: Well there was a question on that. That's why I
- 58:53Speaker 5: asked you that yesterday. How he was He was wondering
- 58:56Speaker 5: if he was where Max thought he was going to be.
- 58:58Speaker 4: But like how like if you're Romo and you're watching
- 59:01Speaker 4: that play live and he has the telestrater thing next
- 59:05Speaker 4: to him that shows him the all twenty two, like instantly,
- 59:07Speaker 4: I just don't know how you could watch that play
- 59:09Speaker 4: and be like he ran like because I had all
- 59:11Speaker 4: these people in my mentions, like I watched it live,
- 59:13Speaker 4: we watch it from the press box, and I was like,
- 59:15Speaker 4: I mean, Bob Douglas is like a couple of yards
- 59:17Speaker 4: behind the defender. He understood, and he underthrows the ball.
- 59:20Speaker 4: I don't know what you know, And everybody he ran
- 59:22Speaker 4: the wrong round because like Romo said that he ran
- 59:24Speaker 4: the wrong route on TV.
- 59:26Speaker 5: I thought some of the things he said more so
- 59:28Speaker 5: on Zach Wilson though, like a lot of times those
- 59:30Speaker 5: guys just go out there and they just tell you
- 59:32Speaker 5: how hard it is, and you know, give him a break,
- 59:34Speaker 5: and he wasn't. He was like, these are just average
- 59:37Speaker 5: routine plays that any NFL player should be able to make,
- 59:40Speaker 5: and he can't make them. He refuses to go to
- 59:43Speaker 5: the bolt, look at the coverage, and do what he's
- 59:45Speaker 5: supposed to do, right. He was pretty critical. I almost
- 59:49Speaker 5: felt bad, Oh, I felt bad.
- 59:50Speaker 6: It was hard.
- 59:51Speaker 5: I felt bad for Zach Wilson at points in the
- 59:54Speaker 5: game because he was so overmatched, you know.
- 59:57Speaker 6: Like he just doesn't have a chance.
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: I mean, it's all his own fault.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: Deep has some gripes with US Deep Deep piece from
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Seattle says he loves the show after moving to the
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: US from India twenty five years ago. I've moved around
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: a lot, and your show has given me a certain
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: sense of centering and belonging during that time. So thank you.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: You're the absolute best. That said, you're insane. Bill bashing
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: over the last year has become tedious that in giving
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Mac Jones a pass at most times, Paul is the
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: only exception, albeit partially. Twenty to thirty two teams have
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: o line gaps, thirty two out of thirty two teams
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: have injuries. Less than ten teams feel absolutely great about
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: all their weapons. However, the better teams with above average
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: quarterbacks win despite gaps and injuries and weaknesses in position groups.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: I am not talking about the elite quarterbacks, but the
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: quarterbacks ranked eight to sixteen can be effective with weaknesses
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: around them. The main problem is that Mac Jones is
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: a bottom ten quarterback and you all keep grading him
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: in an ever lower curve every week. Mac okay against
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: the Jets, really with a fifty percent completion record, Please,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: for the love of all things good in life, take
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: your collective heads out of the you know where and
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: stop insulting your listener's intelligence. The team's woes are sixty
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: percent attributed to Mac, fifteen percent to coaching, and twenty
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: five percent to player skills. Also Evan a couple of
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: timid observations for you. One, it's okay to critique Bill,
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: but maybe have some self awareness before you get go
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: on a ten minute tirade on teaching him how to scheme.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: And two, this isn't the anti Bellum South or the
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: British raj You don't have to add mister every time
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: you mentioned the owner, just Robert or Kraft will suffice.
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: Hey, man, he's the one that signed. I'm as respectful
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: to that.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: I don't ever hear you calling Bill mister Belichick. All
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: that said, you are all great, contribute to my sanity
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: among everything else that is going on in life. Keep
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: up the good work.
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: But keep of the good work. After that entire email,
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: what's his name? I forgot deep, Deep, I'm going to
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: invite you to watch some film with me of Mac
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: Jones whenever you want. This is an open invitation, and
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: we can break down the film together and let's see
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: if your opinion on him changes in terms of what's
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: at more. I'd fallow about the offense.
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: I think it's do a great job, deep good email.
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: But I'm that serious, like I'm not trying to come
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: at him or anything like.
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: No, I will say this about that email. I thought
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: it was going to go in a much different direction
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: than it did. Yeah, but listen to Bill stuff. We
- 1:02:43Speaker 5: get it, we can we put a new disclaimer at
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: the beginning of the show. We understand that we've won
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: six Super Bowls and more, had more success than any
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: of us would have ever dreamed of, and we all
- 1:02:55Speaker 5: widely considered Bill Belichick to be the greatest coach of
- 1:02:57Speaker 5: all time. But at the same time, you want us to,
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: you know, criticize the quarterback, but you don't let us
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: criticize the coach. I get it, one has a much
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: better resume than the other, but they all should be
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: allowed to be criticized, right.
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: I don't know. I I just I feel our conversations
- 1:03:16Speaker 6: on MAC have been fair, and you know, I feel
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: like we don't go overboard when you know he plays
- 1:03:22Speaker 6: something bad. Like you know, I think we all agree
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: he's an average quarterback. So there's gonna be bad stuff
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: and there's.
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: Gonna be good stuff.
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: So he's accurate, but he thinks, he stinks he thinks
- 1:03:30Speaker 6: he's a below average quarterback.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: He thinks he's a bottom ten quarterback.
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: That's and that's and that's his opinion, and that's great.
- 1:03:37Speaker 6: You know for us that this is our job and
- 1:03:39Speaker 6: we watch him all the time all through the year.
- 1:03:41Speaker 6: That's my opinion that he's an average quarterback and that
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: he's not really bringing them down. He's also not raising them.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Right, I mean, ultimately deep could be right. We just
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: don't know. I think it's fair to say the jury's
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: still out on mac Jones.
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: I also think it's fair to say, I'm sorry to
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: cut you off, like with Bill one, Like, how many
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: more years do we have to give it before we
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: can critique him?
- 1:04:03Speaker 11: Right?
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: I think we're coming to the.
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: Yeah, it spent five years since they won the Super
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: Bowl in twenty eighteen, Like, at some point we have
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: to And this really started in nineteen with Bill, Like
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: in the offense and the lack of weapons and the
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: lack of support around the quarterback. It's why the quarterbacks
- 1:04:21Speaker 4: you had one of the reasons why he left. And
- 1:04:23Speaker 4: I would also just say, like, no, I don't everybody
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: knows I don't know more than Bill Belichick about football
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: and myself included especially. But the point is is, I
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: don't really think his track record with offensive football is
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: all that great outside of Brady, Like, I don't think
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: that his track record with it is all that great.
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: I don't personally. That's the parts that like, I don't
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: ever feel comfortable like, well, how could you set up
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: that play exus nosewise? Like what about it?
- 1:04:50Speaker 6: No?
- 1:04:50Speaker 5: I mean, I've never been in that situation, but I
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: do feel comfortable sort of opining on whether or not
- 1:04:57Speaker 5: I feel the way he sets up a team or
- 1:04:59Speaker 5: tries to bill the team is best in this day
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: and age. And that's where I would question some of
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: the stuff Evan just said, you know, his offensive football.
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: I think he still thinks what he's doing, you know,
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: Like I think I think he's thrilled with a win
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: like Sunday. I look at a win like Sunday and said,
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: you can't do that thirteen times? You might be able
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: to do that.
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: He said that after the game. He said, We're not
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: going to win very many games scoring fifteen.
- 1:05:25Speaker 5: I know he says it, but I don't think he
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: believes it. What he does doesn't show you that he believes.
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: That what was Deep's breakdown? I mean, is it? Mac
- 1:05:33Speaker 6: was fifty percent? Bill was fifteen.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: Mac is sixty five.
- 1:05:38Speaker 5: And I didn't even add it up to add el
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: real quick with these things. Did it actually add up
- 1:05:42Speaker 5: to one hundred? Because I'm famous. I'm famous for havings
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: that don't equal one hundred when I'm done.
- 1:05:47Speaker 6: Skill of player a chunk?
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: Well?
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: See? Could that stuck out to me? He mentioned the
- 1:05:52Speaker 5: skill of play.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: And talent, But I want to reiterate was coaching?
- 1:05:56Speaker 5: Can I reiterate that I really liked that email. I
- 1:06:00Speaker 5: tend to like the emails that are critical of us
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: more than anything else, as long as they're fair, like
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: the one that criticized Evan before for suggesting that the
- 1:06:09Speaker 5: Dolphins the Cowboys have never been good on offense, which
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: is not what he said. But the skill of the
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: players to me is Bill. Yeah, he separated those two.
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: Was Bill was like ten percent, The skill of the
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: players was twenty five. Bill acquires the players, that's all
- 1:06:27Speaker 5: part of Bill and then rolls them out there, you know,
- 1:06:29Speaker 5: And that's where I would like. I don't criticize Bill
- 1:06:32Speaker 5: because of his game plan on Sunday or what he
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: did on defense. I criticize Bill because there are opportunities
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: to improve the things that we think need to be improved,
- 1:06:41Speaker 5: and he doesn't do it.
- 1:06:42Speaker 6: Yeah, and I don't And I won't even like venture
- 1:06:45Speaker 6: to say what his philosophy is about team building because
- 1:06:48Speaker 6: you know, look, they took a wide receiver in the
- 1:06:50Speaker 6: first round. They took a running back in the first round.
- 1:06:51Speaker 6: They've taken a tackle in the first round. All of
- 1:06:53Speaker 6: these things they've done, which had they hit, they'd be
- 1:06:56Speaker 6: in a different place right now. But they I mean,
- 1:06:58Speaker 6: I like, we can't sit here and talk about Cole
- 1:07:00Speaker 6: Strange having a terrible start to year two, whether it's
- 1:07:03Speaker 6: because of the injuries or whatever, and not say why
- 1:07:06Speaker 6: did we draft to guard in the first round when
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: our offense.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Is so Bill was as good a personnel guy as
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: he was a coach. They never lose.
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: Yeah, that's two thousand and seven. Like when he had
- 1:07:19Speaker 5: when he actually had more talent than everybody else, they
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: were thirty seconds from going undefeated. That's how good a
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: coach he is.
- 1:07:28Speaker 6: Yeah, I just don't know what the disconnect is, like
- 1:07:31Speaker 6: why like why why do they have to be different?
- 1:07:33Speaker 6: You know, like why can you sit there and look
- 1:07:36Speaker 6: at a player, and you've seen a million different NFL
- 1:07:38Speaker 6: players over the course of your career. You studied them,
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: you know everything there is content to know about every position,
- 1:07:44Speaker 6: and then the misses have just been so consistently bad.
- 1:07:47Speaker 6: And that's like that, and that's really all it is
- 1:07:49Speaker 6: for me with my criticism of Bill is that the
- 1:07:52Speaker 6: drafts have not been good enough. And that's why you
- 1:07:54Speaker 6: are where you are. You have not developed any star
- 1:07:56Speaker 6: players in the last four years, and you're still sitting
- 1:07:59Speaker 6: kind of in neutral because you don't have players that
- 1:08:01Speaker 6: can change the game. You got a couple Jude on,
- 1:08:03Speaker 6: you know, like you've found little bits and pieces, but
- 1:08:05Speaker 6: they haven't found the next Gronk. They haven't found, you know,
- 1:08:09Speaker 6: the next Nate Soldier for that matter, like just a
- 1:08:11Speaker 6: solid tackle who's going to be out there, doesn't need
- 1:08:14Speaker 6: to be a world beater, and that's it. That's everything.
- 1:08:17Speaker 5: The players that he has found offensively like that, generational players.
- 1:08:22Speaker 5: It's obviously one hundred and ninety ninth overall Gronk, who
- 1:08:26Speaker 5: everybody in the league would have loved to have had.
- 1:08:29Speaker 5: He never would have been around in the second round
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: if he didn't have the back problem. It's coming out,
- 1:08:35Speaker 5: you know, Welker diamond in the rough, Edelman diamond in
- 1:08:39Speaker 5: the rough. You know, it's and I give him credit
- 1:08:42Speaker 5: for development in that in that regard and identifying skills
- 1:08:46Speaker 5: that translate to what he wants to do. I give
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: him one thousand percent credit for that.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: But don't forget Steve Nis.
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: What you know when you draft Nikhil Harry, that's a
- 1:08:59Speaker 5: little bit differ. You know, there's there's stakes involved there,
- 1:09:03Speaker 5: like if if Julian Edelman, like there are way more
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: guys that you've long since forgotten about that he tried
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: to make out of Julian Edelman.
- 1:09:12Speaker 6: We know that.
- 1:09:13Speaker 5: Okay, I don't have to give you my I love
- 1:09:15Speaker 5: to give you the run.
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: They're good, They're always good.
- 1:09:17Speaker 5: I won't do it. But there's no pressure there, there's
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: no there's no stakes involved, there's nothing. You know, if
- 1:09:24Speaker 5: it does. If this doesn't work, it's not you know,
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: it's a it's an undrafted free agent, it's a sixth
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: to seventh round pick, doesn't matter. But if you miss
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: on Nikhil Harry, it matters. Exactly the reason why.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: You just said, it sets you back.
- 1:09:35Speaker 5: You should you should have a tackle that is part
- 1:09:37Speaker 5: of your your your core. You should have a running
- 1:09:39Speaker 5: back who's part of your core. You should have a
- 1:09:41Speaker 5: wide receiver that's part of your core. And you should
- 1:09:44Speaker 5: have a guard now that's part of your core. And
- 1:09:46Speaker 5: I'm not sure you have any.
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: Of them, Ramote and Tampa. I really appreciate the format
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: of PU. You talk about all the topics hot through sleeper, sleepers.
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: You have a large panel, but everyone speaks when they
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: want to, and everyone speaks during the show. You also
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: don't repeat. You also don't repeat or drag out maybe
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: a little topics, which I love. I love listening for
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: those reasons. My question is why are talk radio shows
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: set up the way they are and not more like PU.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: I hate how they all clamor to talk, repeat the
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: same topic each hour, and pretty much have the same
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: agenda every day. Am I in the minority that find
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: their format frustrating? We're in a podcast era. We don't
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: need the hot topics repeated when we can play them
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: on demand.
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know, ahead, I mean, I don't
- 1:10:33Speaker 6: listen to a lot of other podcasts, so I'm not
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: really sure you know. I mean, I listen to radio shows,
- 1:10:37Speaker 6: but I don't know.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: Yeah, the radio shows that he's talking about are designed
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: for basically people who are only listening for twenty minutes, right.
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: I was going to say that that's why they repeat
- 1:10:46Speaker 5: a lot of them. They repeat a lot of topics.
- 1:10:48Speaker 5: They also have to take a lot of commercial breaks
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: that we don't. We take one in the middle of
- 1:10:51Speaker 5: the show, much to Hearty's dismay. But they you know,
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: if they talk about something from two to three, the
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: people that are in the car are from five to six,
- 1:11:04Speaker 5: are not the same people. So that's why they sort
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: of reset. And Felger says that all the time, you know,
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: just reset, you know, And it is a lot if
- 1:11:13Speaker 5: you happen to listen to the whole show, it's a
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: lot of repetition. And I get you a point because
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: you're listening on a podcast, so you hear whatever you
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: want to hear, you know, and you know, playing back,
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: but people are listening live, so they're kind of replaying
- 1:11:28Speaker 5: the the hits, so to speak.
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: You've got to get the sound bites, you you got
- 1:11:32Speaker 6: to do all that.
- 1:11:32Speaker 8: A lot of people take themselves too seriously too, not
- 1:11:35Speaker 8: necessarily like local radio.
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: But that's why I think Felgrims never been accused of
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: it's taking themselves too seriously.
- 1:11:40Speaker 8: But there are like a lot of like the Beat
- 1:11:44Speaker 8: Writer podcasts like.
- 1:11:47Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, that's like kind of like they have to
- 1:11:49Speaker 6: do it too.
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: Why Alex and I so well?
- 1:11:52Speaker 6: But how many podcasts two are about one team?
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:11:55Speaker 6: I mean, like Alex said, yeah, the beat Writers. But
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: this is like you guys have been when this for
- 1:12:00Speaker 6: twenty what four years now? Like you guys have the
- 1:12:03Speaker 6: chemistry that goes back, but I mean working together, you know,
- 1:12:09Speaker 6: like I don't I don't know what this show would
- 1:12:11Speaker 6: be without, you know, you guys and your relationship as
- 1:12:13Speaker 6: kind of the anchor and you know, your silly fights
- 1:12:15Speaker 6: that you get into and you know, like that's just
- 1:12:17Speaker 6: something that you can't Hey, here's the two new Boston
- 1:12:20Speaker 6: Herald writers for the Patriots. They got a new podcast, Like.
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: Let's step that up. You know, we've we've stepped away
- 1:12:25Speaker 5: from that a little bit lately. Have you noticed that?
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: Well, that one you know, back in the day when
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: I thought the team was pretty good with Brady, you
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: guys didn't. So we fought.
- 1:12:36Speaker 5: So also, and the trap away from that that you
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: don't think the team's very good.
- 1:12:41Speaker 6: But I also think it's fun too that, like, you know,
- 1:12:43Speaker 6: when Andy comes back in and you know, there's listeners
- 1:12:45Speaker 6: who remember him, and it's you know, it's almost like
- 1:12:47Speaker 6: a sitcom where a character comes back into that show absolutely,
- 1:12:51Speaker 6: you know, in the Cramer clap, you know.
- 1:12:55Speaker 5: Love them, love him, hate them whatever. Glenn Ordway, Okay,
- 1:12:59Speaker 5: when I when he first asked me to be on
- 1:13:01Speaker 5: the Big Show one hundred years ago, and that's exactly
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: what he used to talk about. He goes, every day
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: is a different episode, and you know, you're gonna find
- 1:13:12Speaker 5: whatever your personality is is gonna get accentuated, and then
- 1:13:15Speaker 5: we're gonna explode it to something much bigger than it is,
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: and you're gonna play a character. You're gonna play a role.
- 1:13:22Speaker 5: And he said, I never want you to ever say
- 1:13:24Speaker 5: something or do something that you don't believe, but we're
- 1:13:27Speaker 5: gonna accentuate your quirks and that's gonna be a big thing.
- 1:13:31Speaker 5: And I think that that's right about this in general.
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: You know, and obviously Mike and Tony are the two
- 1:13:36Speaker 5: psychopaths that find fault and everything, right. I know them
- 1:13:40Speaker 5: both pretty well away from the radio, and especially Tony
- 1:13:44Speaker 5: is really nothing like his on air personality, nothing like it.
- 1:13:48Speaker 5: It just sort of gets.
- 1:13:49Speaker 6: Blown as he gets squeaky and raspy, like just in this.
- 1:13:52Speaker 5: The voice, the voice is real.
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: The voice is Chris and Colorado. I'm not sure about
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: your other emailer, But where do we sign up to
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: watch film with Evan?
- 1:14:03Speaker 15: I think we should auction?
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: Yeah, little I could be Patriots. Where do I to lose?
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: You have to watch film?
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: But where do I send a check? And you not
- 1:14:13Speaker 5: have to do that? Yeah, exactly, Fred and I will
- 1:14:17Speaker 5: do that.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: I'd also like to recommend watching j T O'Sullivan's break
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: down of Mac against the Jets on the QB School.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: This is the most objective show out there except Paul
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: Starks negativity for Fred's hobarts kidding you guys are great.
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: That's another great email.
- 1:14:32Speaker 6: Yeah, the JT. The JT thing was great. You know,
- 1:14:35Speaker 6: it was really focusing on those thirty second start in
- 1:14:37Speaker 6: a row. Mack was better than most people thought. Well,
- 1:14:39Speaker 6: he broke down those third, third down throws and we.
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: Got to get to the point where every all fifteen
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: passes that he completed.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: Instead of like, oh here's a stat that you know
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: he's as good as Aaron Rodgers is, you know.
- 1:14:51Speaker 6: Yeah, I would say the most interesting thing to me though,
- 1:14:54Speaker 6: was he broke down the the incompletion of Juju up
- 1:14:58Speaker 6: the sideline. I'm not sure if that was the first
- 1:14:59Speaker 6: or secon can third down at the end, but it
- 1:15:02Speaker 6: was really for him. More credit to the Jets for
- 1:15:04Speaker 6: really just playing it really well, not really leaving them.
- 1:15:06Speaker 5: And that was the disguised, disguised coverage they showed. They
- 1:15:10Speaker 5: showed one and the jumped into you kind of did
- 1:15:12Speaker 5: a flare out, you know.
- 1:15:13Speaker 6: So I look, anytime someone wants to do one of
- 1:15:16Speaker 6: those things, I'll watch it, and you know, I'm jto
- 1:15:18Speaker 6: Selvon's been doing a great job.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: Franklin and Baltimore has a response to deep oh boy.
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: I'm not the biggest fan of Mac myself, but I
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: honestly don't know how any fan can look at the
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: pass catchers, see them game in and game out, be
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: bereft of talent, and yet put the otus on Mac
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: as if he was the one who personally picked those players.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: If you believe that Bill the GM, the person who
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: constructed the offensive roster, is above report reproach, then just
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: say it. The rest of us. However, don't view Bill's
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: mishandling of the wide receivers as bashing, but rather a
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: legitimate criticism of his possibly outdated perspective towards the position.
- 1:15:56Speaker 5: That's kind of how I feel. Yeah, like I don't
- 1:15:58Speaker 5: feel like we bash anybody with the Patriots, do you.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: Know Andrew and Louisiana. So Mac is sicking blame. I
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: remember when Bill used to get credit for coaching players
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: up and developing talent. Interesting when the players not playing
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: up to expectation, it's all the players fall. Sounds like
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: a separate category.
- 1:16:19Speaker 5: Told you that was a good email.
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: He mentioned, I'll come back to teflon Bill.
- 1:16:23Speaker 5: I told you that inspire more email, that deep scent.
- 1:16:27Speaker 5: That's how you know it's good cause you get people
- 1:16:29Speaker 5: that come back and they weigh in either to support
- 1:16:33Speaker 5: or to come back.
- 1:16:34Speaker 6: You know what keeps it keeps playing in my head.
- 1:16:36Speaker 6: It was something that Bill said. I think it was
- 1:16:37Speaker 6: the end of last year when we're in that phase
- 1:16:39Speaker 6: of like can you just admit Max the starter or not?
- 1:16:41Speaker 6: And he said Mac can play in this league. And
- 1:16:43Speaker 6: I still just like, that's that's what I feel too,
- 1:16:45Speaker 6: Like he can play in this league. I just don't
- 1:16:47Speaker 6: know if he can put it all together and be
- 1:16:49Speaker 6: like a really good winning quarter but he can play.
- 1:16:51Speaker 5: Waiting to see a consistent level where I say something
- 1:16:57Speaker 5: happened today because of Mac.
- 1:16:59Speaker 6: Well that's I.
- 1:17:00Speaker 8: Remember sitting in the Training Camp show last year and
- 1:17:02Speaker 8: saying that this is the year we're going to find
- 1:17:04Speaker 8: out if Mac is a quarterback that can win you
- 1:17:06Speaker 8: a game or if he is a quarterback that loses
- 1:17:08Speaker 8: you a game. And he's still in like Kirk Cousins.
- 1:17:11Speaker 5: Like like, I don't have very many like right down
- 1:17:14Speaker 5: the middle. And you guys know, I'm a little probably
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: more critical of Mac than you guys are, But I
- 1:17:19Speaker 5: don't have a laundry list of games where I said
- 1:17:21Speaker 5: they lost that game because of Mac. I don't think
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: that's true. I don't think that they've lost any maybe
- 1:17:28Speaker 5: because of Mac, But I don't have any that they
- 1:17:31Speaker 5: won because of him either. Yeah, And I think that
- 1:17:34Speaker 5: sort of puts.
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: You in quarterback purgatory.
- 1:17:37Speaker 5: Yeah, Like I think that the Cincinnati Bengals with Marvin
- 1:17:42Speaker 5: Lewis and Andy Dalton had a lot of talent, and
- 1:17:47Speaker 5: Dalton played well at times the first three or four
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: years of his career. They won a couple of divisions.
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: They went to the playoffs three or four years in
- 1:17:52Speaker 5: a row, and they couldn't win when they got there
- 1:17:56Speaker 5: because the quarterback was just sort of along for the ride.
- 1:17:59Speaker 5: He wasn't terrible. Andy Dalton in Cincinnati wasn't terrible, but
- 1:18:02Speaker 5: he wasn't good enough either. And I hope that this
- 1:18:06Speaker 5: guy's better than that.
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: But we'll see, Uh guess what we'll see now Evan's back.
- 1:18:14Speaker 18: Has has returned, has turned all right?
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: Is yours?
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: I'm taking the Patriots Devon at practice. Lock it in,
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: lock it up, lock it, lock it in, everybody, perfect
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: attendance for the Patriots. So cold, strange out there, Devon
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: Godshaw out there, Jonathan Jones out there, pads pads on Wednesday.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: Okay, well then that's that's even a bigger uh you know,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: fact that.
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: We'll see has a as the head coach likes to say, well,
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: we'll give you the injury report when we need to
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: give you the injury repard. So around four o'clock, we'll
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: see who participated as much as we'll make sure that
- 1:19:05Speaker 4: we get whatever. But good news. I think it looks
- 1:19:10Speaker 4: like Godshow at least avoided a major injury.
- 1:19:13Speaker 6: I'm just I'm just hoping this isn't one of those. Yeah,
- 1:19:15Speaker 6: he was there for stretching, but then as soon as
- 1:19:16Speaker 6: stretching was over it media goes away.
- 1:19:18Speaker 5: I think he'll be limited. I think you'll list him
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: as limited, no doubt. But it's a good sign. I
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: know a lot of people had had posted that, you know,
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: around the time the equality stuff, and then you know,
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: they eventually put a quality on on injury reserve. They
- 1:19:33Speaker 5: said that they felt like he avoided anything major.
- 1:19:36Speaker 6: So yeah, there's a new ninety four out there too,
- 1:19:39Speaker 6: so chances yeah, he's.
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: A many many.
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: Many another Jones.
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: The defensive tackle, another Jones.
- 1:19:47Speaker 6: But upper field penetrate.
- 1:19:50Speaker 4: Upper fields and upper fields the last week or two, yeah,
- 1:19:54Speaker 4: all last week too.
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: Usual media contingent, yep, yep.
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: Usual media contingent. Always a little bit more numbers on
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: Wednesday because you got the quarterback and you got Bill
- 1:20:05Speaker 4: so a lot of people come down on Wednesdays, you know,
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: turn the page to the next opponent, that sort of thing.
- 1:20:11Speaker 4: So nice, nice contingent out there. Weathers still holding up,
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: so no rain.
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: Just curious of the usual media contingent. How many are
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: going to Germany?
- 1:20:23Speaker 4: Oh, I haven't take a poll. I haven't taken a
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: pole yet, but I will. I'll get back to you,
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: but you get back out there, ask everybody. I'll do that.
- 1:20:31Speaker 6: I think I talked to Mark and I think he's yeah.
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: They're there.
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: I've heard some yeses and some nose already, but not
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: enough to draw.
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: It ain't cheap to get over there now, just I wouldn't.
- 1:20:43Speaker 6: I feel like ten people covering the past a lot
- 1:20:47Speaker 6: of Thunderdome, They're going to make them fight for it, right,
- 1:20:50Speaker 6: Karen Karen.
- 1:20:53Speaker 4: And then all the the people that do everything. I
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: don't know what to call those producers, but general general assignment,
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: That's what I'm talking about.
- 1:21:02Speaker 5: Those people, Yeah, Capital jan journalists.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just not curious. How was the mood of
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: the team coming off their first win of the year.
- 1:21:13Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, you know they were there sounds they were normal,
- 1:21:19Speaker 4: Like I don't think that, Yeah, they were. I'm trying
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: to think of the name of the song that It
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: isn't the lyric that I'm thinking right now because I
- 1:21:25Speaker 4: don't want to say the lyric, but it you know,
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: they were there were some dancing and some some rapping
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: going on, some singing, along going on during stretching.
- 1:21:34Speaker 6: Song, how's it go?
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: Smoke weed every day?
- 1:21:38Speaker 5: Smoke every day?
- 1:21:41Speaker 6: That one can't the next episode?
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: Do you think to get ready for the Cowboys, they
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: might go indoors at some point this this week.
- 1:21:51Speaker 4: That's a good question. Maybe maybe Friday, if they're going
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: to pick a day to go inside.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: Just for kicks, Yeah, just to crank up the music.
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: Usually Fridays would be that day. From my experience, it's possible.
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: Okay, good question. Uh. Kyle and Pembroke, in response to
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: Deep Build a GM, screwed Mac over by letting Myers
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: go and replacing him with Juju. If we ad Meyers,
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: the Patriots are two and one in the eminem connection
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: Mac and Myers is heading this team to a playoff
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: birth so ps, I'd pay a lot to do film
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: breakdown with Evan.
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: Oh, since you've been gone?
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: Another song by the.
- 1:22:29Speaker 6: Way, Yeah, yeah, yeah, A lot of people they want
- 1:22:31Speaker 6: to sign up in the experience.
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, well, we do the audio breakdowns of
- 1:22:36Speaker 4: MAC every single week, So I take about twenty minutes
- 1:22:39Speaker 4: of MAC film and break it down so you're not
- 1:22:41Speaker 4: I'm not live, but you can like walk you know,
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: walk it through.
- 1:22:45Speaker 5: With set up. Yeah, I'm sorry, Webbex.
- 1:22:48Speaker 6: I was just gonna say, I'm really just really availability, Stacy.
- 1:22:54Speaker 6: Can you only have to make the offensive coordinator available
- 1:22:56Speaker 6: every week? I'm just kind of mad at myself for
- 1:22:59Speaker 6: my Jacoby Myers me to take of the spring, you know,
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: when he left, and I'm like, I'm like, how was
- 1:23:04Speaker 6: I not apoplectic about that?
- 1:23:06Speaker 5: I try to tell you all the time. I know
- 1:23:08Speaker 5: you're right, Paul, That's not what I'm going to tell
- 1:23:10Speaker 5: you all the time. But you know, just because I'm crazy,
- 1:23:14Speaker 5: you know me, I'm wrong.
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: You know, you know, like in politics when the president
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: does the State of the UNI and then whatever party.
- 1:23:22Speaker 5: Gives a bottle.
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: So when Bill O'Brien does his thing, we should have
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: the Evan rebuttal afterwards.
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: No, let me tell you what you did wrong. But
- 1:23:31Speaker 4: I to that point. We actually did have a comment
- 1:23:34Speaker 4: on YouTube. I don't remember who the commenter's name was
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: that call us out on that, and I'm like, deeps email,
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: I agree completely with that criticism.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: We were me.
- 1:23:44Speaker 4: I will speak for myself. I don't aswee for you guys.
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: I totally thought Juju was going to be a better
- 1:23:49Speaker 4: option for them than Jacobe Myers thought it was going
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: to be an upgrade, and that it's not even just
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: not been an upgrade. It's been a complete disaster kind
- 1:23:57Speaker 4: of so far.
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: This is one where I think, I think, I think
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: I kind of sided with Myers on that one.
- 1:24:02Speaker 5: Yeah, you did, you were with me?
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: Yeah, because we, like mister Myers, we wanted to hit well,
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: you know what.
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: That might have been part of it too. Maybe I
- 1:24:09Speaker 5: was I was biased, totally.
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: I totally undersold what what Paul mentioned yesterday, which I
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: thought was a really good point of just like how
- 1:24:18Speaker 4: much space Kansas City's offense opens up, so that like
- 1:24:21Speaker 4: when he was catching the ball in Kansas City.
- 1:24:24Speaker 6: And theat is totally different, right.
- 1:24:26Speaker 4: Like the Yaka setup is so different than like when
- 1:24:29Speaker 4: he catches the ball here and there's there's a guy
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: on top of him. Already in Kansas City, there was
- 1:24:33Speaker 4: all of this open space for him to just run
- 1:24:35Speaker 4: with the football, and that that hasn't translated here.
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: You know, he just has his only other really good
- 1:24:42Speaker 5: year in the NFL was opposite Antonio Brown and the
- 1:24:45Speaker 5: height of Antonio Brown's powers.
- 1:24:47Speaker 6: And it's like and you're just talking about the field
- 1:24:48Speaker 6: stuff which is completely applicable. But I'm just like, we
- 1:24:51Speaker 6: love Jacoby Myers. He's a receiver that we developed here
- 1:24:54Speaker 6: as a guy in the inside who made big plays,
- 1:24:57Speaker 6: Like how do we let him go?
- 1:24:58Speaker 8: I think there's really something to be said to for
- 1:25:00Speaker 8: like kind of setting a tone of this is an
- 1:25:02Speaker 8: undrafted guy that we developed and now we're rewarding because
- 1:25:06Speaker 8: if you like that.
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: I thought he was a little bit of a malcontent
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: and he was part of the Gang of five, and
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: I don't think they wanted to give him the money,
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: but I think it was a mistake.
- 1:25:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it was a mistake. And I also like,
- 1:25:25Speaker 5: I just I didn't really I didn't really get the
- 1:25:29Speaker 5: whole thing if you wanted to bring him in, if
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: you want to bring Juju in, because you said all
- 1:25:33Speaker 5: the things that were on the pros, right, more yak,
- 1:25:37Speaker 5: more playmaking ability, maybe an ability to make a guy miss,
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: whereas Jacoby didn't have a lot of that in this game,
- 1:25:42Speaker 5: and I agree he didn't. Why like it had to
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: be won for one. That's the part that I really
- 1:25:47Speaker 5: bristled at all off season. It was Mike Kasiki for
- 1:25:51Speaker 5: John hu Smith, it was Juju Smith, Schuster for for
- 1:25:55Speaker 5: Jacoby Myers. It was at the time James Robinson for
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: Damien Harris, and I said, okay, yeah, you can make
- 1:26:05Speaker 5: an argument. You can make an argument that in all
- 1:26:07Speaker 5: of those cases you got a little bit better. But
- 1:26:09Speaker 5: really you're talking about six and a half dozen, it's
- 1:26:12Speaker 5: not really much different. And I would say I loved
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: what Jacobe Myers did. I thought that he clearly fit
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: in why not bring Juju in? In addition to that.
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: He investing too much in the offense, Paul.
- 1:26:25Speaker 5: That's where I got really frustrated. Now, there was a
- 1:26:27Speaker 5: lot of other things I said at the time. We
- 1:26:29Speaker 5: don't have to get back to him now about the
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: yak and they both averaged twelve or catch. I don't
- 1:26:33Speaker 5: really care how that comes about. It was a twelve
- 1:26:35Speaker 5: yard game. You know.
- 1:26:36Speaker 8: I stand by my TikTok boy comments I made back then.
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: Let's go back to the ace ticket Hut Johnson, Louisiana.
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: What's up?
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: John got to make it the jeap talk by you.
- 1:26:52Speaker 12: Joke yesterday talked about the.
- 1:26:59Speaker 5: Better than now.
- 1:27:00Speaker 10: I know even like and I know they have.
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: A little bit he said, you said Cardinals, right, yeah, yeah, Cardinals, Yeah,
- 1:27:11Speaker 4: uh yeah, they they were feisty. I mean, I don't know.
- 1:27:13Speaker 4: I only watched one one game of theirs really closely,
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: so I don't know what the first two games really
- 1:27:18Speaker 4: looked like.
- 1:27:18Speaker 5: They were pretty good in the first on the second
- 1:27:21Speaker 5: game against the Giants.
- 1:27:22Speaker 4: The one thing that really stood out and we'll see,
- 1:27:24Speaker 4: like you know, they were playing in their dome in Arizona,
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: Like I would like to see what it's like on
- 1:27:28Speaker 4: a fast track for this Patriots offense. But I thought
- 1:27:30Speaker 4: even the Cardinals had a lot more team speed than
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: the Patriots did offensively, you know, they and they when
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: you kind of look at their personnel like Hollywood Brown,
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: Rondell Moore, like they do, they they have guys that
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: can run on that team. And that was one thing
- 1:27:45Speaker 4: that I think really stood out to me watching them
- 1:27:47Speaker 4: on film was was how fast they were a lot
- 1:27:50Speaker 4: faster than I thought.
- 1:27:51Speaker 6: It's funny how that works.
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: Yeah, if you want fast, if you want team speed,
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: get fast players.
- 1:27:56Speaker 6: So what was the quote, Yeah, that was the quote.
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: If you want to be tough, get tough players.
- 1:28:01Speaker 5: I have a hot girlfriend. I'm going to start dating
- 1:28:03Speaker 5: hot girls.
- 1:28:03Speaker 6: Back next week. Week five is yeah, you could be
- 1:28:06Speaker 6: back next week.
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: I think I think you will be.
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: Let's go to Nate in Northeastern Pennsylvania, ingod.
- 1:28:18Speaker 10: I have a quick observation. I'm hoping to get your
- 1:28:21Speaker 10: take on. I don't know if it's right or wrong either,
- 1:28:23Speaker 10: so Evan, you steel free to chime in. But over
- 1:28:25Speaker 10: the last three games, it's on offensive play calling. Over
- 1:28:29Speaker 10: the last three games, I've been pretty satisfied with with
- 1:28:31Speaker 10: Bill O'Brien, and a lot of it stuffy schemed up.
- 1:28:34Speaker 10: But I've gotten the vibe that a lot of times
- 1:28:37Speaker 10: on like second or third down and let's just say
- 1:28:40Speaker 10: six yards the past play goes for like four yards
- 1:28:44Speaker 10: or five yards, it seems like they're scheming up a
- 1:28:47Speaker 10: lot of stuff that's just short of the sticks. Is
- 1:28:49Speaker 10: it just me or do you guys see that as well?
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: Honestly, I thought last week it was the opposite that
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: they were scheming, especially in the second half of that
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: they were right on third down in the first half
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: they were six for ten. The second half I thought
- 1:29:04Speaker 4: that they were I mean, there was all the deep
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: balls to juju and stuff like that that they were
- 1:29:07Speaker 4: trying to do on on third and medium, which so
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: I don't necessarily think that it that it has anything
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: to do with play designer.
- 1:29:15Speaker 6: Park Parker passed the sticks on that big one of
- 1:29:17Speaker 6: the left sideline.
- 1:29:17Speaker 5: I mean, this is totally anecdotal, but I can think
- 1:29:21Speaker 5: of the Tom Brady offense often being predicated on throw
- 1:29:27Speaker 5: short of the sticks and relying on Wes Welker and
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: Julian Edelman. They run for the first down James White,
- 1:29:33Speaker 5: a lot of their third down success is not necessarily
- 1:29:36Speaker 5: throwing it beyond the sticks.
- 1:29:38Speaker 4: Yeah, football outsiders used to used to track it. They
- 1:29:42Speaker 4: called it Alex after Alex Smith. Alex Smith was always
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: short of the sticks. But you know, ri ip to
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: football outsiders, they're they're going through some so they I
- 1:29:51Speaker 4: don't know if that stat is readily available anymore, but
- 1:29:55Speaker 4: usually the Patriots were actually pretty good about throwing past
- 1:29:59Speaker 4: the sticks tip to the rest of the league. So
- 1:30:01Speaker 4: I don't know what it's act quite quite right now.
- 1:30:04Speaker 10: Yeah, maybe I'm still just reeling from last week with
- 1:30:06Speaker 10: the Dolphins and how many tents bring the sticks out
- 1:30:09Speaker 10: to measure. But I just didn't see very much yards
- 1:30:12Speaker 10: after contact on some of those short plays. But again,
- 1:30:15Speaker 10: I'm kind of lumping all three games together.
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: Thank guys, all right, Thanks Nate, Eric is in Amherstburg.
- 1:30:22Speaker 5: What's up, Eric, Bill Township.
- 1:30:25Speaker 19: Hey, guys, I'm going to make this really quick, but
- 1:30:27Speaker 19: I have a little bit of a bone to pick.
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: With Dus because finally somebody.
- 1:30:33Speaker 19: Right, so you said that only like, oh, what wide
- 1:30:37Speaker 19: receiver can make a difference on this offense.
- 1:30:39Speaker 10: It's not just one wide receiver.
- 1:30:42Speaker 19: It's the accumulation from twenty eighteen till now, Sony Juju,
- 1:30:48Speaker 19: all the type one, all these guys that Bill just
- 1:30:51Speaker 19: can't draft. He's bringing in guys to replace guys like
- 1:30:54Speaker 19: you guys were saying, it's not working out and it
- 1:30:58Speaker 19: is completely bare. And if you want to go, just
- 1:31:02Speaker 19: with this off season, because I'm sick of you guys
- 1:31:05Speaker 19: talking about Gonzo and how great he is. He could
- 1:31:08Speaker 19: be delon standers and in this day and age, it's nothing.
- 1:31:12Speaker 10: It means nothing.
- 1:31:13Speaker 19: You sign or bring in Zay Flowers, bringing Hopkins, that's
- 1:31:18Speaker 19: one move. Eliminate Gonzo and does that change your offense?
- 1:31:22Speaker 9: Does that make you more competitive?
- 1:31:24Speaker 11: I think it does.
- 1:31:25Speaker 19: I don't think Gonzo makes the difference on keeping us
- 1:31:27Speaker 19: competitive in the game.
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: How a great day, guys, all right? I disagree a
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: little bit. I mean in terms of scoring a lot
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: of points. Obviously, no, you need you need pass catches.
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: But I think the defense is what is keeping them
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: competitive right now, and he's a big part of the defense.
- 1:31:42Speaker 4: I would also just say, like why not both like
- 1:31:44Speaker 4: you he mentioned the Hopkins, like they could have signed
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: Hopkins and drafted Christian Gonzales in the first round, So
- 1:31:50Speaker 4: I like that. That's the piece of it to me.
- 1:31:52Speaker 4: That doesn't really Yes, you can't have Zay Flowers and
- 1:31:56Speaker 4: Christian Gonzales, you had to pick one or the other
- 1:31:58Speaker 4: there in the first round. But you could have had
- 1:32:00Speaker 4: Christian Gonzalez and let's say, you know, Josh Downs, you
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: know who's had a pretty good start in Indianapolis, so
- 1:32:07Speaker 4: like you could have It doesn't have to be one
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: into the other. It might not have been Zey Flowers,
- 1:32:11Speaker 4: but it could have been somebody else.
- 1:32:12Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I agree with I mean, I don't know,
- 1:32:14Speaker 6: always call me out, but you know, my point was
- 1:32:16Speaker 6: more just that they weren't they didn't ignore it, like
- 1:32:18Speaker 6: they drafted a wide receiver in the first round. Like
- 1:32:20Speaker 6: it's not like they just are like we're never touching
- 1:32:22Speaker 6: a wide receiver. I agree with everything he said.
- 1:32:24Speaker 5: Yeah, that was one of those that was one of
- 1:32:26Speaker 5: those coming at you with things that I've heard you
- 1:32:28Speaker 5: say many times. Yes, yeah, the draft. The Gonzales thing
- 1:32:31Speaker 5: to me is interesting, and I listen. I was on
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: Gonzales before they drafted him. He was a guy that
- 1:32:37Speaker 5: I identified as one of two or three guys that
- 1:32:39Speaker 5: really it hopes that they got. So I'm thrilled. No,
- 1:32:43Speaker 5: I'm thrilled with the way he's playing. I'm not trying
- 1:32:45Speaker 5: to tell you that I didn't want him, because I did.
- 1:32:48Speaker 5: But I do sort of understand the argument of you're
- 1:32:52Speaker 5: falling short because of you're missing some pieces on offense.
- 1:32:56Speaker 5: So just because you hit on the first round pick
- 1:32:58Speaker 5: doesn't I'm fine with it. I'm like, I'm just giving
- 1:33:01Speaker 5: you the devil's advocates, like did you lose a couple
- 1:33:04Speaker 5: of games because you couldn't protect your quarterback? But so
- 1:33:07Speaker 5: maybe if you took it. You know the gripe about
- 1:33:09Speaker 5: the day two picks, like absolutely know you could go
- 1:33:12Speaker 5: there too, and has looked great in flashes, but he
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: doesn't play.
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: Does right? And neither does they both play ten snaps
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: a game right? So like the criticism isn't of Gonzales.
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: I know you're not saying you.
- 1:33:26Speaker 5: Can't state that strongly enough. The criticism is not of Gonzales,
- 1:33:30Speaker 5: who I just wrote an ode to.
- 1:33:33Speaker 6: Where would we be without him right now?
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:33:37Speaker 6: Yeah, that's well, that's another.
- 1:33:39Speaker 4: That's the one that really, like obviously really kills them
- 1:33:42Speaker 4: because in their eyes, they're not going to invest another
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: top fifty pick in a receiver because they just did
- 1:33:48Speaker 4: that last year. And that's how that's how they've explained
- 1:33:51Speaker 4: it in the past, like when they went in nineteen
- 1:33:54Speaker 4: they took nick kill Harry in the first round, and
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: then in twenty twenty they I think they took Trey
- 1:33:58Speaker 4: Nixon in the seventh that was maybe that year, but
- 1:34:01Speaker 4: they didn't take a receiver, and everybody was like, like,
- 1:34:05Speaker 4: how did you not take a receiver? Like that's like,
- 1:34:07Speaker 4: it's such a big issue. And his response was, we
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: traded for SNeW and we drafted Nikhil Harry, so we
- 1:34:13Speaker 4: had already invested a first in a second round pick
- 1:34:16Speaker 4: at the receiver position. So we're not gonna we've used
- 1:34:19Speaker 4: too much capital on receivers. Whereas other teams, you know,
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: I've mentioned Philly in the past, they just kept trying.
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: They they just kept drafting them and it worked out.
- 1:34:28Speaker 19: Uh.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: Still in Seattle, people that are calling for Mac to
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: be retooled with high end weapons are forgetting the fact
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: that you have to make this guy the highest paid
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: player on your franchise's history soon on top of equipping
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: him with players that have to carry him. That doesn't
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: make sense to me, So I can see how it
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: wouldn't make sense to Robert Craft in most gms.
- 1:34:48Speaker 5: Then you don't want to win like you're you're content
- 1:34:52Speaker 5: with this, I mean, you have to spend money at some.
- 1:34:55Speaker 6: Point, right, Yep, did a tough decision. What's I mean?
- 1:35:00Speaker 5: I mean, I'm not telling you you have to do
- 1:35:02Speaker 5: it to Mac Jones, but I'm saying the guy is right,
- 1:35:04Speaker 5: the email is right. Eventually, soon your quarterback is going
- 1:35:09Speaker 5: to be your highest paid player that you've ever had
- 1:35:10Speaker 5: in your team. That's going to happen sooner or later
- 1:35:13Speaker 5: three years, Okay, whether it's Mac or somebody else, like,
- 1:35:16Speaker 5: at some point that's going to happen. Are you willing
- 1:35:20Speaker 5: to you know, not necessarily the highest guy, but are
- 1:35:23Speaker 5: you willing to augment that with high paid guys around him?
- 1:35:27Speaker 5: And if you're not, you're going to struggle.
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: I know, that.
- 1:35:30Speaker 6: And then the hard thing too is like watching you know,
- 1:35:31Speaker 6: some of Dallas's games with the Giants and just watching
- 1:35:33Speaker 6: Daniel Jones and like this is you know, it's just
- 1:35:35Speaker 6: such a hard thing. Like I get why they did it,
- 1:35:37Speaker 6: but like, you don't want to be that team that
- 1:35:39Speaker 6: has to pay the average quarterback with the hope that
- 1:35:42Speaker 6: he's going to suddenly get to a level that you
- 1:35:44Speaker 6: have not seen and you're paying him for things that
- 1:35:47Speaker 6: you haven't seen yet. You know, you're giving him a
- 1:35:49Speaker 6: top of then you know, top of the team kind
- 1:35:51Speaker 6: of contract.
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: And I won't kill him if they don't do that
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: for mac Jones. That's the reason you said.
- 1:35:56Speaker 4: That's why I think the fifth year option is a
- 1:35:58Speaker 4: no brainer for mac Jones.
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: It's only like twenty million, yeah, and.
- 1:36:01Speaker 4: So that way there you still have the fifth year
- 1:36:03Speaker 4: of team control, but you're not paying the forty million.
- 1:36:06Speaker 4: That's what that's the problem the Giants. That was the
- 1:36:08Speaker 4: mistake the Giants made the Giants be And granted it
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: was based off of Daniel Jones's first two years in
- 1:36:13Speaker 4: the league, so I understand why they didn't want to
- 1:36:16Speaker 4: pick up the option. But they didn't pick up the option,
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: so then he became a free agent a year earlier,
- 1:36:21Speaker 4: and so then they had no choice but to pay him.
- 1:36:23Speaker 5: They only got four years of affordability instead of five.
- 1:36:26Speaker 5: You should get five.
- 1:36:27Speaker 4: Because technically you can pick up the fifth year option,
- 1:36:30Speaker 4: and then in year six you could franchise him. And
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: now you're still kicking the can down the road of
- 1:36:35Speaker 4: giving him the ninety million dollars guarantee.
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: So Richard New York City loved the show. I think
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: what the caller who criticized the Gonzo pick does not
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: realize is that you need a lockdown corner in the NFL.
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: As Fred said previously a while ago, a lockdown corner
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: opens things up and helps you in this league. That's
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: for sure.
- 1:36:55Speaker 6: It's one of the three.
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: They're rare.
- 1:36:56Speaker 6: Yeah, it's they're rare. The corner, a pass rusher, a receiver,
- 1:36:59Speaker 6: cour back. I mean those are you know, the big
- 1:37:01Speaker 6: four and left tackle maybe, but you know they didn't
- 1:37:04Speaker 6: have that guy, and I mean, I don't know what
- 1:37:05Speaker 6: things would look like right now when you got all
- 1:37:07Speaker 6: the Joneses are on the sideline. You had no Gonzales,
- 1:37:10Speaker 6: so you would have been starting Sean Wade and Miles Bryant.
- 1:37:13Speaker 6: Last week, like you know, I mean, I you know,
- 1:37:16Speaker 6: respect that that people prefer the receiver, and I understand why,
- 1:37:19Speaker 6: but I think given where Gonzo was supposed to go
- 1:37:21Speaker 6: and where you got him, it was a no brainer.
- 1:37:23Speaker 6: And it didn't fill And I think, you know the
- 1:37:25Speaker 6: point a hit in the second a hit in the
- 1:37:28Speaker 6: second round.
- 1:37:29Speaker 5: But I thought there were there were alignment and skill
- 1:37:31Speaker 5: position guys to be had that but it's just.
- 1:37:34Speaker 6: Like, it's so frustrating because you have a sixth round
- 1:37:36Speaker 6: pick that is clearly the most athletic receiver you got.
- 1:37:40Speaker 6: What would it look like if instead of Jake Andrews,
- 1:37:42Speaker 6: who God knows when he's ever going to get in
- 1:37:44Speaker 6: the lineup, if you if you got one of those
- 1:37:46Speaker 6: earlier guys like D three, that's what it looks like
- 1:37:49Speaker 6: at the sixth round. What would it look like in
- 1:37:51Speaker 6: the third.
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: We're talking about the fourth round? Dwan Jones right names
- 1:37:54Speaker 5: the fourth round, we're talking about moving him to the
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: left side.
- 1:37:57Speaker 4: Now, yeah, I know he's a player, conclin he was
- 1:38:01Speaker 4: great at Ohio State. Dwan Jones Like that was an
- 1:38:04Speaker 4: off the field like personality trait.
- 1:38:07Speaker 5: But that's like second I mean, you know, the second
- 1:38:10Speaker 5: or third day, like, no, I hear you. That's when
- 1:38:13Speaker 5: you roll the dice on.
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: It shutters in Manchester, UK. I thought Douglas's game looked
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: off a bit last weekend, and I'm just wondering if
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: others thought that too, and if it's from the knock
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: of his confidence after Bill benched him against the Fins.
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: I hope I'm wrong, but I got and Bill's stubborn
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: ways affected more than one game. And thanks duds for
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: the Patriots propaganda support.
- 1:38:37Speaker 6: I don't know, I didn't see enough of them to
- 1:38:38Speaker 6: really make that observation.
- 1:38:40Speaker 5: I don't know his game well enough to know if
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: he was off last week, let's put it on.
- 1:38:43Speaker 4: I mean, obviously they didn't connect on the deep ball,
- 1:38:45Speaker 4: so if you're going just based off of like the targets,
- 1:38:48Speaker 4: I guess like that. But I thought the route that
- 1:38:50Speaker 4: he ran on third down, that Mac made a great
- 1:38:52Speaker 4: throw to throw it, you know, drop it over the
- 1:38:54Speaker 4: first level and before I thought that was a really
- 1:38:57Speaker 4: good route. I mean, if you like watch it, he
- 1:38:59Speaker 4: he really does a nice job of pushing vertical up
- 1:39:02Speaker 4: the field to get the safety to you know, have
- 1:39:04Speaker 4: to bail out and then break like he's a dynamic
- 1:39:07Speaker 4: route runner. They just they got to figure out a
- 1:39:09Speaker 4: way to get him involved with while living with the
- 1:39:13Speaker 4: growing pains of a rookie receives.
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: My only concerns with him or size. I think he
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: can play. I think he has ability to play.
- 1:39:18Speaker 6: Canny hold up?
- 1:39:19Speaker 5: Can he hold up?
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: Sulman? What's your assessment Ben on the linebackers so far?
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: I feel like I haven't heard any of their names
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: stand out. Bentley to Vi Wilson, and to an extent,
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: see to have been quiet. But what are all your thoughts?
- 1:39:33Speaker 6: I think Bentley was bad last week, he was good
- 1:39:35Speaker 6: this week. Tova has been what he's what he is,
- 1:39:39Speaker 6: and mac Wilson is barely playing right now.
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: And do you include Jennings as a linebacker well.
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: For this game? Sure?
- 1:39:45Speaker 6: Yeah, sure, And I mean I'd love to see more
- 1:39:47Speaker 6: of him. I just I don't I don't know how
- 1:39:48Speaker 6: much he can really move the needle.
- 1:39:51Speaker 5: Like Bentley and Tavai struggled against Miami speed, Yeah, they
- 1:39:56Speaker 5: are much more present against the Jets physicality that's kind
- 1:40:01Speaker 5: of lends itself to them. And I think Jennings played
- 1:40:03Speaker 5: for the same reason.
- 1:40:05Speaker 4: Yeah, but Bentley was awesome against the Jets.
- 1:40:08Speaker 5: That's his game.
- 1:40:10Speaker 4: That's why that's why I like them against Dallas is
- 1:40:12Speaker 4: because I think that he can play that way. Like
- 1:40:14Speaker 4: if you're going to play in a pham booth against
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: Jewan Bentley and run.
- 1:40:17Speaker 15: It right out of it.
- 1:40:18Speaker 5: They're different caliber players, that's all. I mean. That's how
- 1:40:21Speaker 5: Dallas has to caliber players.
- 1:40:23Speaker 6: I mean, but you know, twenty six snaps last week.
- 1:40:26Speaker 6: I just he's a really interesting player to me of
- 1:40:28Speaker 6: how the league's gonna view him this offseason and how
- 1:40:30Speaker 6: the Patriots are going to view him this offseason. He
- 1:40:33Speaker 6: certainly looks athletic out there running around, but.
- 1:40:35Speaker 5: I think he's fine. I think he's I think he's
- 1:40:37Speaker 5: a role player that he does in that role.
- 1:40:40Speaker 4: I feel for Kyle Duger in that respect because I
- 1:40:44Speaker 4: don't think it's on purpose. I know people like where
- 1:40:46Speaker 4: the tinfoil at on on these types of things and
- 1:40:48Speaker 4: say that, but they had to. They have to replace
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: Devin mccordy. He has to be a part of that,
- 1:40:54Speaker 4: and he's moving further and further away from the ball,
- 1:40:57Speaker 4: So like all of those plays on the ball that
- 1:40:59Speaker 4: he made last year are now. I'll go in to
- 1:41:01Speaker 4: Jabriel Peppers, who happens to not be a free agency.
- 1:41:04Speaker 5: At full disclosure. In general terms, I'm one of those
- 1:41:07Speaker 5: tinfoil hat guys. I agree with Evan what he just
- 1:41:10Speaker 5: said about Dugger. I don't think this one is is that.
- 1:41:13Speaker 5: I think this is out of necessity. Clearly they're not
- 1:41:16Speaker 5: thrilled with with Adrian Phillips and Jalen Mills because they
- 1:41:19Speaker 5: haven't played a whole lot. So it's Dougger, it's Pepper's.
- 1:41:22Speaker 6: You know, it's a little more this week.
- 1:41:25Speaker 5: But you're right about it. But I don't. I don't
- 1:41:27Speaker 5: feel like it was some kind of orchestrated attempt to
- 1:41:31Speaker 5: get I think you could make an argument with what
- 1:41:33Speaker 5: they did with the tackles last year. I had the
- 1:41:35Speaker 5: tinfoil hat on for that, and clearly so did Trent Brown.
- 1:41:42Speaker 5: But I don't. I don't look at this that way.
- 1:41:45Speaker 5: I think that Dugger is probably not going to have
- 1:41:49Speaker 5: the stats that he did last year anyway. I mean,
- 1:41:51Speaker 5: the ball found him a lot last year. You know,
- 1:41:54Speaker 5: like a fumble, remember the fumble that Hopkins had against
- 1:41:57Speaker 5: Arizona when he's like carrying it like this and you
- 1:41:59Speaker 5: just dropped it and then Duger picks it up and
- 1:42:02Speaker 5: runs it in for a touchdown like those, he's that's
- 1:42:05Speaker 5: not likely to happen two years in a row. And
- 1:42:07Speaker 5: now you couple the fact that he's been sort of
- 1:42:10Speaker 5: single high a little bit, which never.
- 1:42:12Speaker 6: Was Now it must be so hard for other teams,
- 1:42:15Speaker 6: especially on defense, to project how the Patriots players would
- 1:42:18Speaker 6: fit into their scheme, because you know, if you're gonna
- 1:42:20Speaker 6: sign to a big deal and you like his his
- 1:42:22Speaker 6: pass rush ability, he's never been a three down defensive
- 1:42:26Speaker 6: player going back to college, he's always just kind of
- 1:42:29Speaker 6: been a pass rusher. And you know, how much do
- 1:42:31Speaker 6: other teams really value that role for if we're going
- 1:42:33Speaker 6: to pay a defensive end outside linebacker, we want to
- 1:42:36Speaker 6: make sure he's gonna be playing.
- 1:42:38Speaker 5: I don't know. I don't know how much, but I
- 1:42:39Speaker 5: think every team has those kinds of players. I just
- 1:42:41Speaker 5: don't know how much you pay for that.
- 1:42:43Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:42:44Speaker 5: He's not Von Miller. You know who's gonna command big
- 1:42:48Speaker 5: money as a situational pass rusher, But I don't know,
- 1:42:51Speaker 5: could it be Leonard Floyd.
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: It's just really hard to see him as anything more
- 1:42:56Speaker 4: than a situational pass rusher because he's, like you said,
- 1:43:00Speaker 4: like you didn't even do that in college like at Michigan,
- 1:43:02Speaker 4: he was a rotational guy too, and it's really hard
- 1:43:06Speaker 4: to like shake that reputation around the league. Like a
- 1:43:09Speaker 4: lot of times teams do go back to their college
- 1:43:13Speaker 4: evaluation of players and they're like, this is what we
- 1:43:15Speaker 4: thought of him coming out. It's sort of what he's
- 1:43:17Speaker 4: been in the league. Like we don't we view him
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: as a third down guy, and that's it.
- 1:43:23Speaker 5: I'd be very surprised if he leaves because of a
- 1:43:27Speaker 5: big money deal. Yeah, you know, I for all the
- 1:43:31Speaker 5: reasons you guys just said. I think if he leaves,
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: it's gonna because the Patriots clearly didn't really want him.
- 1:43:36Speaker 6: And they just think they could get a third down
- 1:43:39Speaker 6: pass rush outside guy who's got some traits.
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: That uh email says, what happens when Thornton comes back?
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: Does he help the Patriots pass game more because he's
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: our deep threat hopefully?
- 1:43:50Speaker 6: I mean that would be the optimistic against hope that yeah,
- 1:43:53Speaker 6: he's gonna bring an elementary.
- 1:43:54Speaker 4: I'm ready to get hurt again by Taekwon Thorton.
- 1:43:57Speaker 5: You're gonna you're gonna put yourself on the game.
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: I'm gonna I'm going to be vulnerable, Paul, and I'm
- 1:44:01Speaker 4: going to put myself out there again because I'm proud
- 1:44:04Speaker 4: of you there. They don't have very many guys that
- 1:44:07Speaker 4: can separate, like whatever way you want to call that,
- 1:44:11Speaker 4: like you know, route running speed with Taekwon's.
- 1:44:14Speaker 5: Jody's going to come back and like in the fifth game,
- 1:44:16Speaker 5: he's going to get hurt again. He's going to be like,
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: we are never ever ever getting back together.
- 1:44:22Speaker 4: Oh I do it every time with him. I'm infatuated
- 1:44:25Speaker 4: by the skill set and the player has just not
- 1:44:29Speaker 4: consistently been able to put it together. But when you
- 1:44:32Speaker 4: see those flashes, man, like even the catch he got
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: hurt on and joint practices against the Packers, ran right
- 1:44:37Speaker 4: by everybody, and you know he got hurt laying out
- 1:44:40Speaker 4: for the pass and practice.
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: Let's see. Phil writes in if Strange is out in city,
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: so is healthy? Is he an option at left guard?
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: And if so, does he look better than Mafi?
- 1:44:51Speaker 6: I was thinking a little bit about that. I know,
- 1:44:53Speaker 6: no so play. You know that was where he played
- 1:44:55Speaker 6: last year in college.
- 1:44:58Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:44:59Speaker 6: It's a good question on him at tackle. And that's
- 1:45:02Speaker 6: it because it kind of seemed like it although they
- 1:45:03Speaker 6: give them.
- 1:45:04Speaker 4: Did they give played guard?
- 1:45:05Speaker 6: And we want we want right you got in there,
- 1:45:08Speaker 6: so maybe maybe. I mean I would keep an eye
- 1:45:11Speaker 6: on both Mafi and and him as you know, potential guys,
- 1:45:15Speaker 6: especially with them when you was a free agent. I mean,
- 1:45:17Speaker 6: is it crazy to think that next year those are
- 1:45:18Speaker 6: your two starting guards?
- 1:45:19Speaker 5: Nope, And I would applaud them for that if you
- 1:45:23Speaker 5: as long as they can play, Yeah, I would, because
- 1:45:25Speaker 5: that's what Mike. But that's what you do. You draft
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: guys to replace the guys that you think you might lose. Yeah,
- 1:45:31Speaker 5: that's what they used to do when they were really rolling.
- 1:45:34Speaker 4: I would pay Big Mic.
- 1:45:35Speaker 6: I think that's gonna be a fun off season debate
- 1:45:37Speaker 6: about Big Mic.
- 1:45:37Speaker 4: I mean, you have a like you have seventy five
- 1:45:40Speaker 4: million dollars in cap space, Like where else are you
- 1:45:43Speaker 4: going to spend it?
- 1:45:44Speaker 6: Receive a kid? We gonna need to receive guy.
- 1:45:46Speaker 4: So there's twenty million, like you know, like.
- 1:45:48Speaker 6: We need more than one receiver.
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: That's not gonna do it.
- 1:45:50Speaker 4: Guys like how many, Like it's seventy five million to
- 1:45:53Speaker 4: get to that number. And they spend to the cap.
- 1:45:56Speaker 4: Like we can talk about the cash and all that,
- 1:45:57Speaker 4: but like they spend to the cap every year mostly
- 1:46:01Speaker 4: U mostly how else are you gonna get there, like
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: without without paying some of these guys, right, you know,
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: Like it's just you're gonna gonna be forty million under
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: the cap, like I mean, but.
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: You still have to bring back some people, probably.
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: Yeah, Mike and Duggart, I think both. There's no reason
- 1:46:19Speaker 4: from a cap standpoint, like, so there, those two guys
- 1:46:22Speaker 4: are gonna cause probably ten million each at most.
- 1:46:26Speaker 5: I would say, I think Dougger's gonna get some money.
- 1:46:30Speaker 4: So you're there, you go. You spent You spent twenty
- 1:46:33Speaker 4: percent of your your eighty million dollars in cap space
- 1:46:35Speaker 4: on two on those two.
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: Guys, Christian and North Carolina. Look what happens when the
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: star player you paid has to show up in a
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: moment when you need uh need him to. He's talking
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: about Judon. Imagine if we had that on the offense,
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: we might be able to convert crucial third downs and
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: close out games or even better, come back and win.
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: Feel bad for this defense. It's going to get old
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: quick for them.
- 1:47:01Speaker 6: Like, oh, like I got you tedious of having to yeah,
- 1:47:05Speaker 6: hould the ford every game.
- 1:47:06Speaker 4: When I was watching we were watching.
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: The game, speaking of that, the Jets, they're ready to implode.
- 1:47:11Speaker 6: This Patriots broken other dam right right?
- 1:47:14Speaker 5: Good job.
- 1:47:17Speaker 4: Is it weird to you guys that Aaron Rodgers is
- 1:47:20Speaker 4: going on Pat McAfee and talking to grow up and
- 1:47:22Speaker 4: talking about his own team, like.
- 1:47:25Speaker 5: Very strange, right, It's like he's above.
- 1:47:27Speaker 4: It, but he's under contract, like he's still a Joe
- 1:47:30Speaker 4: and he's.
- 1:47:30Speaker 5: Going on he's going to be the quarterback next year.
- 1:47:32Speaker 4: Yeah, it's very odd.
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: It's weird. Let's see Rob in San Diego via Connecticut.
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: This might be a summation of the ongoing live discussion
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: regarding Gonzo in wide receiver draft picks. I think that
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: people are trying to say defense is just not as
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: important in twenty thirty twenty twenty three do many factors,
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: ranging from offensive schemes to change in rules. The outdated
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: perspective of Bill is how he chooses to allocate resources.
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: He isn't doing anything different in twenty twenty three than
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: he did in twenty sixteen, two thousand and eight or prior.
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: That's the problem. He no longer has the goat, and
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: the league has changed. Put a statue on the may
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: on the man outside Jolette the day he leaves. But
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: I think we are watching the career arc of many
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: excellent pass coaches who ended with a series of mediocre seasons.
- 1:48:25Speaker 4: Common common take.
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: Yeah, when's the last Well, I guess Bill Walsh he
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: went out on top, right, Yeah, he went out on top.
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: But coaches don't never normally like win it and say
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: I'm done.
- 1:48:38Speaker 6: Yeah, markin Levy, that was John Madden did.
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think he did.
- 1:48:42Speaker 5: He but he was early, right, I mean yeah, yeah,
- 1:48:45Speaker 5: he has like the best winning percentage of all time,
- 1:48:47Speaker 5: I believe still. Yeah, but that's percentages partly because that's
- 1:48:51Speaker 5: why I just said best winning.
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: Percent I think like when you're a coach, that's what
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: you are. Like, you can't imagine yourself doing anything else.
- 1:48:58Speaker 8: Yeah, if you're still coaching at that age, like what else,
- 1:49:01Speaker 8: you'd probably die like a minute after you retire.
- 1:49:03Speaker 3: Anyways.
- 1:49:04Speaker 5: Yeah, like the Chuck Knowles, Tom Landry's, those types. They
- 1:49:08Speaker 5: had greatness, they slowly deteriorated once the quarterback, and then
- 1:49:13Speaker 5: they had like four or five mediocre to bad seasons
- 1:49:17Speaker 5: right the same way.
- 1:49:18Speaker 6: It's funny my grand you know, my grandfather coached a
- 1:49:20Speaker 6: Tuss coach track until he died. He was like I
- 1:49:23Speaker 6: think seventy one and.
- 1:49:25Speaker 5: Then when Bill Rogers was no longer winning marathons, but
- 1:49:28Speaker 5: he never wanted to keep it going, couldn't win it
- 1:49:30Speaker 5: without But.
- 1:49:30Speaker 6: It was I remember my dad saying he continued to
- 1:49:32Speaker 6: win till the end. But but I remember my dad
- 1:49:34Speaker 6: telling me that, like, you just don't get these kids there.
- 1:49:36Speaker 6: You know, it's like in the seventies, like their long
- 1:49:38Speaker 6: hair hippies.
- 1:49:39Speaker 4: He'd get all fired up, like he just couldn't hippies, couldn't.
- 1:49:42Speaker 6: Connect with the players anymore.
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: Right, Uh, Claire, hello everywhere.
- 1:49:48Speaker 5: I had a wonderful time podcast last week.
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I.
- 1:49:51Speaker 4: Did, fabru Brown.
- 1:49:54Speaker 15: I read Brown.
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: Perhaps, she says, just perhaps the Jets are sticky with
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: Wilson to fail enough to drop the top quarterback next year,
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: to put behind Rogers for one year in twenty twenty
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: four and then take over the year after. Just the thought.
- 1:50:09Speaker 5: Quietly, so it wouldn't be the dumbest thing now.
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: No, I mean, so Sala and Douglas now have their
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: way of taking without taking, they sticking with a quarterback.
- 1:50:20Speaker 5: Well, and plus it's not going to be in different
- 1:50:23Speaker 5: with Trevor Simeon. But right, if you go to Woody
- 1:50:26Speaker 5: Johnson and say, listen, wis screwed. Like you can't get
- 1:50:30Speaker 5: anybody in. We can't get anybody in right now, right
- 1:50:33Speaker 5: So we're gonna win three or four games. We're not
- 1:50:35Speaker 5: going to do much better than that, but it's going
- 1:50:38Speaker 5: to put us in a position to get Caleble somebody, somebody,
- 1:50:43Speaker 5: and we'll have Aaron Rodgers next year. So we're gonna
- 1:50:45Speaker 5: win immediately. Because if you can keep that team reasonably intact,
- 1:50:50Speaker 5: you're gonna win that.
- 1:50:50Speaker 6: And you've got a quarterback for ten years. I mean,
- 1:50:52Speaker 6: I lose along the way. I think this mac thing
- 1:50:55Speaker 6: has changed my philosophy a little bit. Like I just like,
- 1:50:58Speaker 6: to me, it's like it's kind of a no brainer
- 1:51:00Speaker 6: to just do that. Maybe that's because I feel kind
- 1:51:02Speaker 6: of like the Patriots have burned too with the last
- 1:51:04Speaker 6: three seasons for just s's and giggles, you know. But
- 1:51:08Speaker 6: like if you get Caleb Williams, like you know what
- 1:51:11Speaker 6: I mean, you have a guy that you can I
- 1:51:13Speaker 6: just play with and win.
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: Caleb Williams is a special prospect. Some people are like
- 1:51:19Speaker 4: putting him in the Hall of Fame already, and I'm not,
- 1:51:21Speaker 4: like I don't know about that, but he's a special prospect.
- 1:51:24Speaker 4: But like but like, end of the day, is it
- 1:51:28Speaker 4: unless you've improved the supporting cast, Like how much better
- 1:51:31Speaker 4: is it truly going to be? Unless he's like generationally good, right, like.
- 1:51:36Speaker 6: For the Patriots? Yeah, yeah, yeah, like.
- 1:51:38Speaker 4: You know, and I still that's why I still go
- 1:51:42Speaker 4: and say that supporting Mac is the best path forward
- 1:51:46Speaker 4: for the Patriots, like building around him and making him
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: you know, like he likes to say, he likes to say,
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: I want to be a point guard, Like I just
- 1:51:54Speaker 4: want to distribute the ball to the open guy, Like
- 1:51:57Speaker 4: I don't want to you know, have to do five
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: hundred yards, right, And if that, to me, is still
- 1:52:03Speaker 4: the better route for this team. But like if you're
- 1:52:05Speaker 4: the team, like the Jets that are gonna lose anyways, then.
- 1:52:07Speaker 6: That's what I mean. It's like and you know, and
- 1:52:08Speaker 6: what are they gonna what are they gonna pick seventh?
- 1:52:10Speaker 6: You know, like they're gonna like the Patriots, No, the Jets,
- 1:52:13Speaker 6: you know, like like they.
- 1:52:14Speaker 5: Would have they would have to like really bottom up,
- 1:52:16Speaker 5: like last year they won seven games with that.
- 1:52:18Speaker 6: Just go for it, you know, like what's the difference.
- 1:52:23Speaker 5: Yeah, he won five, He went five and four, though
- 1:52:24Speaker 5: Mike White won one game, Okay, something. I thought it
- 1:52:27Speaker 5: was Flacco one. Uh, Flacco won at least one, maybe two.
- 1:52:31Speaker 6: But if you're just so sick of that the Jets,
- 1:52:32Speaker 6: you've been doing this forever, like you have a chance
- 1:52:34Speaker 6: to maybe like, yeah, you kind of screw it up
- 1:52:36Speaker 6: this year, but then you could be set for the
- 1:52:38Speaker 6: next few. You got everything else in place.
- 1:52:40Speaker 5: I think Mike White went one in three, Flacco went
- 1:52:42Speaker 5: one in three, and then yeah, see if my py charts,
- 1:52:49Speaker 5: that didn't add up to one hundred year, so I stopped.
- 1:52:52Speaker 4: You have to like it has to be Calla Williams. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:52:55Speaker 4: because like all these other quarterbacks are just like they're
- 1:52:57Speaker 4: they're good prospects, don't get their first round guy, but
- 1:53:00Speaker 4: like them like Zach Wilson was the first round guy
- 1:53:03Speaker 4: that like you know what I mean, Like it just
- 1:53:05Speaker 4: the cale Williams is the only one that's like generally
- 1:53:07Speaker 4: racial prospect level.
- 1:53:09Speaker 6: Once you get past third overall, there's some kind of
- 1:53:11Speaker 6: projection involved, you know, and there's certainly talented guys there,
- 1:53:14Speaker 6: but I would say, like the hit rate just rapidly drops,
- 1:53:16Speaker 6: and you know, unless you just happen to stink beyond
- 1:53:19Speaker 6: all belief. The one year that one of these guys
- 1:53:21Speaker 6: is coming out.
- 1:53:22Speaker 5: And that's the hard thing is identifying the guy. Like
- 1:53:25Speaker 5: I did a little of this because I'm going in
- 1:53:27Speaker 5: to talk to my boys on my show, and one
- 1:53:29Speaker 5: of my boys big thing is, now, why would you
- 1:53:32Speaker 5: have to do that? Why would you all these guys
- 1:53:33Speaker 5: they all stink, They all stink. Why are you gonna
- 1:53:35Speaker 5: You're gonna trade up in the top ten? You can
- 1:53:37Speaker 5: take a guy who stinks like okay, because that would
- 1:53:40Speaker 5: be because because this is why, Michael, because Michael me
- 1:53:43Speaker 5: a very like, very rudimentary listing of quarterbacks, Okay, practicing,
- 1:53:48Speaker 5: just just gonna give you, and this is not necessarily
- 1:53:51Speaker 5: anyone but Patrick was, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow,
- 1:53:55Speaker 5: Justin Herbert Lamar Jackson, Aaron Rodgers, Jalen Hurts to A
- 1:53:59Speaker 5: Dak pre Scott Russell, Wilson, Deshaun Watson, Matthew Stafford, Jerry Goff,
- 1:54:03Speaker 5: Trevor Lawrence. Okay, did I miss some? I mean, I
- 1:54:08Speaker 5: know I've read really fast, but I'm not telling you
- 1:54:11Speaker 5: this is the top fifteen. I'm not top at the order,
- 1:54:15Speaker 5: but that's about what the best quarterbacks are right now
- 1:54:17Speaker 5: in football, right Okay, Out of that group, they're all
- 1:54:21Speaker 5: first round picks except for Jalen Hurts, Dak Prescott, and
- 1:54:24Speaker 5: Russell Wilson. I included Russell Wilson based on his career,
- 1:54:28Speaker 5: not what he is right now, right, Okay, But I
- 1:54:30Speaker 5: recognize that throughout his career he was a top ten quarterback,
- 1:54:33Speaker 5: so I'm going to include him out of the interest
- 1:54:36Speaker 5: of fairness. He was a third round pick, Dak fourth round,
- 1:54:39Speaker 5: Jalen Hurts second round. All the rest of those guys
- 1:54:42Speaker 5: are first round picks. So I know that there's a
- 1:54:45Speaker 5: million busts. I know that Zach Wilson shouldn't be in
- 1:54:49Speaker 5: the league, right. I know that I know Justin Fields
- 1:54:52Speaker 5: is a disaster, right Lance, Trey Lance is hurt. But
- 1:54:56Speaker 5: if you want to get one of these guys, you
- 1:54:58Speaker 5: have to pick him in the first round. If you
- 1:55:00Speaker 5: want a guy, you just have got to hope you
- 1:55:01Speaker 5: get it right. It's not easy. Like Felger is Adam Rosen,
- 1:55:06Speaker 5: He's Adaman's Josh Josh Sam good broadcaster, Josh bad quarterback.
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: Uh sweet kid says which running back gives you the
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: best chance to win this game?
- 1:55:18Speaker 6: Zeke or Madre I Zeke based on what last week,
- 1:55:21Speaker 6: then he's got some motivation.
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: If it's not more, we got bigger problems because he's
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: he should be your best running back.
- 1:55:28Speaker 5: But what if? What if Elliott's better?
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: Who do you?
- 1:55:30Speaker 5: Are?
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: You not better? Right now?
- 1:55:33Speaker 5: I agree with you, but I don't really like I
- 1:55:35Speaker 5: think they're doing it. What difference does that make if
- 1:55:37Speaker 5: one guy is good and the other guy is not?
- 1:55:38Speaker 5: Who cares?
- 1:55:39Speaker 4: I think that this game is definitely If.
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: Our best running back right now is Zeke Elliott, we
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: got problems, okay.
- 1:55:46Speaker 6: And I think we can.
- 1:55:52Speaker 4: Forever Zeke's guy. If Zeke's decisiveness that he showed in
- 1:55:56Speaker 4: the game against Jets is what he's gonna be, then
- 1:56:00Speaker 4: the way that the Cardinals ran on the Cowboys, I
- 1:56:03Speaker 4: would didn't seek. I think is probably your best bet.
- 1:56:05Speaker 6: They're doing a thing for him too. I think they're
- 1:56:07Speaker 6: a little little honored.
- 1:56:08Speaker 4: I do think he will be motivated. Yeah, for sure.
- 1:56:10Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: James Pettigrew, the most interesting Papers fans in the world, says,
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: I'm with Evan and Mike. I think I feel like
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: there might be some bones of this team. Whilst our
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: offense sucks, I feel like our defense makes us a
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: difficult out. Yeah.
- 1:56:26Speaker 5: Oh, I would. I would largely agree with that. I
- 1:56:28Speaker 5: don't think agrees with me and Mike, but I don't
- 1:56:31Speaker 5: think they're an easy team to play. I just want
- 1:56:35Speaker 5: I just want them to surprise me. I haven't been
- 1:56:37Speaker 5: surprised in so long. I haven't seen you know what
- 1:56:39Speaker 5: I mean?
- 1:56:40Speaker 6: Like every game, I feel like I'm like, yep, that's
- 1:56:42Speaker 6: about right, you know, Like.
- 1:56:42Speaker 5: I don't know, Glee on your face is just priceless.
- 1:56:45Speaker 6: I'm not Glee. It's not Glee, No, it's I just
- 1:56:47Speaker 6: want to be the desires.
- 1:56:48Speaker 5: I want to wake up on Christmas morning and get everything.
- 1:56:50Speaker 6: I want to want that BB gun and I don't
- 1:56:52Speaker 6: want Dad to hide it in the corner. I want
- 1:56:54Speaker 6: to when I unwrap my presence. And I don't have
- 1:56:56Speaker 6: any surprises.
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: Kyle with Pembroke, I know Gilmour is a stud of
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: a quarterback. However, I noticed he's been vulnerable against quicker
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: ride receivers as he's gotten older. Do you think we
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: could use Pop Douglas as a mismatch.
- 1:57:07Speaker 5: Should have pressed him. I don't think he's going to
- 1:57:09Speaker 5: be covering to Mario Doug Gilmore.
- 1:57:12Speaker 4: Gilmore is a definitely still a starting caliber corner, but
- 1:57:16Speaker 4: he's he has lost a step. I will agree with that.
- 1:57:20Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:57:20Speaker 5: He's not going to put him on a little slot
- 1:57:22Speaker 5: guy that's never been his game the height of his power.
- 1:57:25Speaker 6: Say that about me. I'm the best cornerback in the game.
- 1:57:27Speaker 4: Still, I think he's still really good.
- 1:57:30Speaker 5: Christian can quiet chiming from the other side.
- 1:57:32Speaker 4: I remember watching him every day.
- 1:57:34Speaker 6: Who's more quiet? Who's going to say more in the game?
- 1:57:36Speaker 5: Is that over under can get an over under? That
- 1:57:38Speaker 5: one should off, should them up them up?
- 1:57:42Speaker 4: I would actually think that, like in all seriousness fascinating.
- 1:57:45Speaker 4: They would never let us make up Christian Gonzales because
- 1:57:47Speaker 4: he's a rookie, but like micing up Christian Gonzalez just
- 1:57:51Speaker 4: to hear the silence like might actually be pretty cool.
- 1:57:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I think I think it'd be great if you
- 1:57:56Speaker 5: if you miked him up and then it was like your.
- 1:57:58Speaker 3: Mother, it turns out, but just like just like.
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: You have you feature him miked up and you have
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: the song, the sound of silence in the background.
- 1:58:13Speaker 4: Just like the I just need the sound of his feet,
- 1:58:16Speaker 4: you know, like like just like and just him would
- 1:58:19Speaker 4: be like.
- 1:58:19Speaker 20: A drums would like great, all right, that's gonna be
- 1:58:28Speaker 20: it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered.
