Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: My wife just texted me. She's crying because of our
- 0:04Speaker 1: 9-11 post. So now you can see it at John
- 0:07Speaker 1: Jay and Rich on Instagram. You can see it at
- 0:09Speaker 1: John Jay Van Ness on Instagram. And Rich, did you
- 0:10Speaker 1: accept the clap?
- 0:11Speaker 2: I did. And you can see it on Rich Barrett
- 0:13Speaker 2: on Instagram. It was 25 years ago.
- 0:15Speaker 1: It was amazing what the people of Arizona pulled together
- 0:18Speaker 1: and did.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Anyway. So last night, you guys watched the football in Australia? Yeah.
- 0:23Speaker 3: A little bit of it.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Did you see Joe Bros?
- 0:26Speaker 4: They were fun. Yeah, they were awesome. That was cool.
- 0:28Speaker 2: They sound so good live.
- 0:30Speaker 5: They do.
- 0:31Speaker 1: I said to my son, who's a huge football fan,
- 0:33Speaker 1: I said, I go, I don't think that's, it'd be
- 0:36Speaker 1: interesting to follow these two teams through the season because
- 0:38Speaker 1: I think traveling to Australia screws up your sleep.
- 0:40Speaker 3: That's the whole big story today is that the 49ers
- 0:43Speaker 3: got there like a week ahead of time so that
- 0:44Speaker 3: they could readjust their schedules and get their bodies on
- 0:48Speaker 3: the same clock of Australia.
- 0:49Speaker 2: And I guess the Rams got.
- 0:51Speaker 3: There like 28 hours before the game.
- 0:52Speaker 2: And they got clobbered.
- 0:54Speaker 1: That's what Kemp was telling me. And I was like,
- 0:56Speaker 1: I go, and I bet you it's going to mess
- 0:57Speaker 1: them up for the rest of the season. But because
- 0:59Speaker 1: sleep is so important. And then this video.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Has gone viral with Australian news anchors. We're watching some
- 1:05Speaker 2: footy game in America.
- 1:07Speaker 3: The Rams and the San Francisco 69ers play some rubbish game.
- 1:15Speaker 4: 49ers.
- 1:17Speaker 2: That sounds much more interesting.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:18Speaker 2: A lot of people might pay to see this. That's
- 1:23Speaker 2: what we were doing. The 49ers. That's much harder to
- 1:26Speaker 2: explain to your wife.
- 1:30Speaker 5: I saw a lot of people poking fun at the
- 1:32Speaker 5: football field itself saying that that was the first nfl
- 1:36Speaker 5: game that has front row seats that are nosebleeds because
- 1:39Speaker 5: it was played on.
- 1:40Speaker 2: A cricket field oh yeah so far away.
- 1:42Speaker 5: When it would pan out on the drone it looked
- 1:44Speaker 5: like they were really really far away from the field.
- 1:47Speaker 4: Do you know how big that state how many people
- 1:48Speaker 4: were there i couldn't i didn't hear them say No,
- 1:50Speaker 4: I didn't know.
- 1:51Speaker 2: But it seemed like a lot. It's a big stadium.
- 1:52Speaker 2: It looked awesome.
- 1:53Speaker 5: I just really enjoyed seeing Brock Purdy out there because
- 1:55Speaker 5: I was like, hometown hero.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Look at you go, dude.
- 1:58Speaker 5: You're crushing it.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I love that they call it footy game.
- 2:00Speaker 4: I know, right?
- 2:00Speaker 2: That's what I was laughing at.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Footy game.
- 2:04Speaker 1: If you are in the serving business, the restaurant business,
- 2:08Speaker 1: there's a server that's calling out waiters and waitresses on
- 2:12Speaker 1: the awkward thing they do when someone is dealing with
- 2:14Speaker 1: the bill and the tip on the table. You know
- 2:17Speaker 1: that little thing, that little toaster thing that they'll hand
- 2:20Speaker 1: you sometimes and they'll hand.
- 2:22Speaker 4: It to you right there.
- 2:24Speaker 2: They watch you give them a tip. They say that phrase,
- 2:26Speaker 2: it's going to ask you a couple of questions. Yes. Okay,
- 2:28Speaker 2: listen to this guy.
- 2:29Speaker 6: One of the worst things you can do as a
- 2:31Speaker 6: server who uses a handheld is to drop it off
- 2:32Speaker 6: and say, it's just going to ask you a quick question.
- 2:35Speaker 6: It is so awkward and it's so easily avoidable. They
- 2:37Speaker 6: knew they were going to tip before they walked in
- 2:39Speaker 6: the restaurant.
- 2:39Speaker 2: You don't have to tell them.
- 2:40Speaker 6: The awkward part comes when they feel like you're watching
- 2:42Speaker 6: them and standing over them as they're filling it out.
- 2:44Speaker 6: There's two simple things I do to make it seem
- 2:45Speaker 6: like not a big deal. The first one is making
- 2:47Speaker 6: small talk with everyone at the table except for the.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Person signing the check.
- 2:50Speaker 6: The second thing I do is wait for about half
- 2:52Speaker 6: a second when they hold the toast out and hand
- 2:53Speaker 6: it back to you. It makes it seem like you're
- 2:55Speaker 6: more engaged in the conversation than them signing the check.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Let me tell you how good small talk works. It
- 3:01Speaker 1: was my birthday last Friday and I'm at this coffee
- 3:04Speaker 1: shop and my wife's sitting next to me and I
- 3:06Speaker 1: order the coffee and I order her drink. And the
- 3:09Speaker 1: person takes my order and says, hey, how's your day going?
- 3:12Speaker 1: And then they turn the thing to tip. And the
- 3:15Speaker 1: tipping options were like 18%. 25% and 30%. Now I'm
- 3:24Speaker 1: in San Diego. Like sometimes when I'm, I'm just being,
- 3:27Speaker 1: I'm being as honest.
- 3:28Speaker 2: As I can.
- 3:29Speaker 1: If they happens here in this town, if it's someone
- 3:31Speaker 1: who recognizes me, I always try to do a bigger tip, right?
- 3:33Speaker 2: Cause it bums me out that they recognize me. Right.
- 3:38Speaker 1: So my wife goes, she goes, how's your day going?
- 3:40Speaker 1: The lady goes, ask me that. My wife goes, it's
- 3:42Speaker 1: his birthday today. And she turned the tips thing around. Well,
- 3:46Speaker 1: happy birthday.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Hey, it's his birthday today. And I'm like, well, looks
- 3:50Speaker 2: like I got to hit 30. 30% is a lot.
- 3:54Speaker 2: So I said to Blake, I said, hey. Don't ever
- 3:57Speaker 2: talk again with her. Don't ever.
- 4:00Speaker 4: No small talk. She can't just live her life.
- 4:02Speaker 2: No small talk.
- 4:03Speaker 1: You ask me to order you the drink, go back
- 4:04Speaker 1: there and sit down at the table while I order
- 4:07Speaker 1: the drink.
- 4:08Speaker 2: It's her fault. 30% is- That's out of control.
- 4:11Speaker 5: I know.
- 4:11Speaker 1: And you know what else they do in San Diego
- 4:14Speaker 1: or in California thing? You tip and then there's a
- 4:18Speaker 1: service fee now in California where you- They.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Do that in Vegas too. It's something like that. Yeah.
- 4:24Speaker 1: So then I see this thing was on BuzzFeed about
- 4:27Speaker 1: things that used to be free, but now cost money.
- 4:30Speaker 2: And number 10 on the list, it's pizza delivery.
- 4:32Speaker 1: It says, I'm fine tipping, but a delivery fee.
- 4:35Speaker 2: So you have a delivery fee and then you tip
- 4:38Speaker 2: too much. Things that used to be free, but now
- 4:41Speaker 2: cost money.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Lame. Parking.
- 4:44Speaker 1: So it used to be that you could just find
- 4:46Speaker 1: something on a nearby street. Now it seems like you
- 4:47Speaker 1: have to scan a QR code for every parking space
- 4:50Speaker 1: on earth.
- 4:50Speaker 4: If there's anything close to any sort of downtown or
- 4:53Speaker 4: any sort of scene at all, you can't just find
- 4:56Speaker 4: a parking lot.
- 4:56Speaker 1: It all costs money. Free internet content. Why is everything
- 5:00Speaker 1: that's worth reading behind a paywall?
- 5:02Speaker 2: Oh, that's nuts.
- 5:03Speaker 3: I'm always like, I can find it somewhere else.
- 5:05Speaker 4: I'm not going to subscribe to you. I just want
- 5:07Speaker 4: to read what you're talking about.
- 5:08Speaker 2: It's so frustrating, right? It's so maddening.
- 5:11Speaker 1: It says YouTube without excessive ads. Now a 10 minute
- 5:14Speaker 1: video could be broken into three breaks. Unless you pay
- 5:17Speaker 1: to get rid of them. The Disney fast pass says
- 5:19Speaker 1: used to be an awesome and free way to skip
- 5:21Speaker 1: long lines. Now it's been replaced by paid options. I
- 5:24Speaker 1: knew there were two rides when I was at Disneyland
- 5:25Speaker 1: over the summer that you could pay for a fast pass. Yeah.
- 5:28Speaker 2: It was worth it.
- 5:28Speaker 5: I remember it was the paper and you'd be able
- 5:30Speaker 5: to go like, I think it was like one an
- 5:31Speaker 5: hour or something like that.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Not anymore.
- 5:34Speaker 5: One a day.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Checked airline bags used to be free. That's true. All
- 5:39Speaker 2: the concert ticket fees. Buying a ticket used to be
- 5:41Speaker 2: face value.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Now when you add in convenience fees, processing, and delivery,
- 5:44Speaker 1: it can make the price of the ticket double. Phone accessories.
- 5:48Speaker 1: This really pisses me off too now. This is not
- 5:50Speaker 1: that long ago. iPhones used to come with headphones and
- 5:52Speaker 1: a charger. Now you've got to buy that stuff separately.
- 5:54Speaker 5: Yes, the charging block. Bring it back, please.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Isn't that a bummer?
- 5:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:59Speaker 4: When you buy the new AirPods, you don't get the
- 6:01Speaker 4: charging case for free. You've got to pay extra for
- 6:04Speaker 4: the charging case. How are you going to use them
- 6:07Speaker 4: more than one time if you don't get the charging case?
