- 0:53SPEAKER_04: I was gonna say, we've been doing this for like five years.
- 0:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 0:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we must have done a Halloween episode.
- 0:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I think it was like our first uh first year we did.
- 0:59SPEAKER_09: No, or maybe second year.
- 1:00SPEAKER_04: Really?
- 1:01SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:01SPEAKER_09: Because we were in here, so it might have been the second year.
- 1:04SPEAKER_04: What did we do?
- 1:05SPEAKER_04: Just play like spooky music or something?
- 1:07SPEAKER_09: Oh, I I went over the history of Halloween.
- 1:12SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 1:12SPEAKER_09: Salwin, if you're to be technical.
- 1:16SPEAKER_04: I re I remember that.
- 1:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:18SPEAKER_09: So um it was a lovely time was had by all.

- 1:27SPEAKER_04: Welcome to the O'Brien and Doug podcast.
- 1:29SPEAKER_04: I'm O'Brien.
- 1:29SPEAKER_04: I'm Doug! Hello! I thought you were the ghost of Doug.
- 1:32SPEAKER_11: I'm the ghost of Doug.
- 1:33SPEAKER_04: Boo.
- 1:34SPEAKER_11: Listen to our podcast.
- 1:36SPEAKER_11: Or I want your eternity like Freddie Krueger.
- 1:40SPEAKER_04: It is episode uh 264.
- 1:43SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:44SPEAKER_04: Um we had a couple of um passings recently.
- 1:52SPEAKER_04: And uh I was listening to our friend Eddie Trunk, and he made a bold claim.
- 2:01SPEAKER_04: Um so I'm talking specifically about the s kind of sudden passing of Ace Fraley.
- 2:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 2:09SPEAKER_04: From Kiss.
- 2:10SPEAKER_04: Original guitar player.
- 2:12SPEAKER_04: Um Frayley's Comet, that was his his solo project.
- 2:16SPEAKER_04: Um he had a big hit with uh I just got that.
- 2:21SPEAKER_09: Frayley's Comet.
- 2:22SPEAKER_04: You didn't know that was his uh I didn't know that was a side brother.
- 2:25SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that was his band.
- 2:25SPEAKER_04: After after Kiss was Frayle's Comet.
- 2:27SPEAKER_09: I did not know.
- 2:28SPEAKER_04: Um they had a kind of a big hit um with the let me get it pulled up here.
- 2:38SPEAKER_04: Um It was actually uh you know how they all had solo albums in the 70s, like 70 seven?
- 2:45SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 2:45SPEAKER_04: His was actually thought to be the best one out of all the four members, the best solo album.
- 2:52SPEAKER_04: Believe it or not.
- 2:54SPEAKER_04: But he had this back in the New York groove.
- 3:04SPEAKER_04: You remember this?
- 3:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I didn't know this was Ace Freely.
- 3:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's singing and playing guitar.
- 3:11SPEAKER_04: This is a great song.
- 3:52SPEAKER_04: Now, arguably uh I mean it's no in a New York minute, but well, that's true.
- 3:58SPEAKER_04: It's pretty good.
- 3:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I know.
- 3:59SPEAKER_04: It's yeah.
- 4:00SPEAKER_04: I I love this song actually.
- 4:01SPEAKER_04: It's fun.
- 4:01SPEAKER_04: It's fun, is what it is.
- 4:02SPEAKER_04: It's it's fun.
- 4:03SPEAKER_09: The the drums sound like he's beating on luggage.
- 4:08SPEAKER_04: And you never know, he may be.
- 4:09SPEAKER_09: Um Like that very first uh weird owl song, everybody Another One Takes the Bus.
- 4:15SPEAKER_09: You know he's beating on a suitcase, right?
- 4:17SPEAKER_04: I did not.
- 4:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:18SPEAKER_04: But that's you know, that's that's par for the course.
- 4:21SPEAKER_04: There's a lot of people that that kind of do that.
- 4:23SPEAKER_09: Well, we started out on a half of half of a acoustic guitar.
- 4:27SPEAKER_09: So I mean, you know, anything's possible.
- 4:28SPEAKER_04: And I have a tailor, so we could go back to that if you uh Hey, that'd be easy.
- 4:31SPEAKER_09: We should do we should do a retro night.
- 4:33SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 4:34SPEAKER_09: I'll get the shaker and the and uh you know a good empty, you know, hollow guitar body, and we'll jam out.
- 4:41SPEAKER_04: Um I'm down for it.
- 4:42SPEAKER_04: Cool.
- 4:43SPEAKER_04: Uh that's the best best stories.
- 4:47SPEAKER_04: Acer's React.
- 4:49SPEAKER_04: Uh there we go.
- 4:51SPEAKER_04: Okay, so I was what I was gonna say is um a lot of people think many of Ace Freely's contributions to Kiss, the songs that he did with the band, uh were some of the better ones.
- 5:03SPEAKER_04: You know, because you think of well, you think of KISS and you think keep it simple, stupid, and rock and roll all night, obviously, you know.
- 5:11SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 5:12SPEAKER_04: Things like that.
- 5:12SPEAKER_04: Detroit rocks.
- 5:13SPEAKER_04: Which is really kind of an easy song.
- 5:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:15SPEAKER_04: You know.
- 5:16SPEAKER_04: Um, most of his freely songs, Freely, fair f fair freely.
- 5:22SPEAKER_04: Freely.
- 5:23SPEAKER_04: Um they had these rifts, you know, these catchy hooks in the rifts like parasites.
- 5:30SPEAKER_04: This is uh, I mean, that's uh memorable.
- 5:44SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 5:55SPEAKER_04: So, I mean, he wrote that.
- 5:56SPEAKER_04: It's Gene singing.
- 5:58SPEAKER_04: Right, obviously.
- 5:59SPEAKER_09: Anthrax does a good cover of that.
- 6:01SPEAKER_04: Yes, I remember.
- 6:01SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 6:02SPEAKER_04: Um Fractured Mirror was uh, let's see, did he I think he wrote this.
- 6:08SPEAKER_04: I'm not sure if he's singing it or not.
- 6:11SPEAKER_04: Oh, no, yeah, he is singing it because this comes from his solo album.
- 6:15SPEAKER_04: Uh this that's not what I want.
- 6:16SPEAKER_04: I want I want Kiss songs.
- 6:18SPEAKER_04: Music from the Elder.
- 6:19SPEAKER_04: I don't even want to go there.
- 6:20SPEAKER_04: That's a horrible album.
- 6:21SPEAKER_04: It is.
- 6:22SPEAKER_04: Um Unmasked 1980, Torpedo Girl.
- 6:25SPEAKER_04: I've never heard this song.
- 6:27SPEAKER_04: I'm not a huge Kiss fan.
- 6:29SPEAKER_04: I mean, I I'm Yeah.
- 6:33unknown: Man Battle Station Torpedo.
- 6:36unknown: Man, Battle Station Torpedo.
- 7:12SPEAKER_04: Anyway, um, Strange Ways from Hotter than Hell.
- 7:15SPEAKER_04: I'm not gonna listen to all of them.
- 7:17SPEAKER_04: Uh let's see.
- 7:18SPEAKER_04: I'm just talking about the Kiest one.
- 7:19SPEAKER_04: Well, cold gin.
- 7:20SPEAKER_04: I mean, everybody knows cold gin from kidding.
- 7:22SPEAKER_04: That's a that's a really riff.
- 7:25SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 7:26SPEAKER_04: You know, that's one of their signatures on it, really.
- 7:40SPEAKER_04: And then the last one they have here on this list is, of course, Shock Me, which is another.
- 7:55SPEAKER_04: Okay, so here's here's my problem with our friend Eddie Trunk.
- 7:59SPEAKER_04: Now I know Eddie was friends with Ace Fraley.
- 8:03SPEAKER_04: He'll tell you that.
- 8:04SPEAKER_09: Oh, I'm sure he won't.
- 8:05SPEAKER_04: And actually, he he was, actually, because I think he was responsible for signing Fraley's comment to Mega Force Records.
- 8:12SPEAKER_10: Oh, okay.
- 8:13SPEAKER_04: So, um, because at the time, and I heard this on his podcast today, which was pre-recorded, but he had said something about because when he worked AR for Mega Force Records, they had Anthrax and they had uh Man of War, I think.
- 8:30SPEAKER_04: Really heavy stuff.
- 8:31SPEAKER_04: And Eddie Trunk was like, I think we need somebody who can get on the radio.
- 8:35SPEAKER_04: I think we need an artist that's known and that has had a hit at that time, New York groove.
- 8:42SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 8:42SPEAKER_04: And so the the head of Mega Force Records was like, I I I don't see it, but I'll trust you.
- 8:48SPEAKER_04: And so he got Ace Fraley, and I think they did pretty well with him.
- 8:52SPEAKER_04: Um but anyway, so he had he had done things with Ace Fraley over the years.
- 8:57SPEAKER_04: So they were I I they were friends.
- 9:00SPEAKER_04: But he said something on his live show yesterday uh that I don't agree with.
- 9:08SPEAKER_04: And I can see where he was coming from.
- 9:11SPEAKER_04: Uh and I uh in a roundabout way I I kind of understand.
- 9:18SPEAKER_04: He said that Ace Fraley's loss loss or the loss of Ace Fraley is very comparable to the loss of Eddie Van Halen.
- 9:29SPEAKER_10: No.
- 9:30SPEAKER_04: Well, that was my initial reaction.
- 9:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 9:33SPEAKER_04: And his his reasoning was of course, you know, Eddie Van Halen uh r reinvented guitar.
- 9:40SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 9:41SPEAKER_04: You know, and he was a trailblazer, and you know, a lot of people picked up the instrument because of him and played the way they play because of him.
- 9:48SPEAKER_04: Same can be said for Ace Freely.
- 9:50SPEAKER_04: This is accord according to Eddie Trunk, he said that KISS was the reason a lot of people picked up the electric guitar.
- 10:01SPEAKER_04: And you could say that about Tony Naomi, you could say that about George Harrison, Jimmy Page.
- 10:08SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 10:08SPEAKER_09: You know?
- 10:09SPEAKER_04: But would you compare them to Eddie Van Halen?
- 10:11SPEAKER_04: No.
- 10:11SPEAKER_04: No.
- 10:12SPEAKER_04: I wouldn't either.
- 10:13SPEAKER_09: I mean, were they responsible for people picking up the guitar?
- 10:17SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 10:17SPEAKER_04: No question.
- 10:18SPEAKER_09: But I I don't think the death of Ace Freely was anywhere near as big as I don't think so either.
- 10:27SPEAKER_04: Ace Freely for for I mean, I know that he was still putting out music.
- 10:32SPEAKER_04: Matter of fact, I think he just put out a record a couple years ago.
- 10:36SPEAKER_04: I don't know how well it sell it sold.
- 10:38SPEAKER_04: I don't know how well his, you know, music sold overall over the years.
- 10:46SPEAKER_04: You didn't hear it on the radio like you hear jump.
- 10:48SPEAKER_04: Nope.
- 10:49SPEAKER_04: You know, or other Van Halen songs, Panama.
- 10:53SPEAKER_04: You know.
- 10:54SPEAKER_04: So I was just I was trying to understand it, and I I guess in a roundabout way, just that way right there, you know, that yes, yes, he was responsible for p some people picking up the guitar.
- 11:05SPEAKER_04: But that's it.
- 11:06SPEAKER_04: That's where the comparison ends.
- 11:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 11:07SPEAKER_09: I mean he's not as inf influential as Eddie.
- 11:10SPEAKER_04: Not at all.
- 11:11SPEAKER_09: And never will be.
- 11:12SPEAKER_04: No.
- 11:12SPEAKER_04: So I don't think so either.
- 11:14SPEAKER_04: You know, uh, and I think Eddie was probably talking from a place of um nostalgia and because he was a big he's a big KISS guy.
- 11:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:25SPEAKER_04: And he was friends with Ace.
- 11:26SPEAKER_04: So I think he was trying to build up his legacy.
- 11:28SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's probably a little bit of bias there.
- 11:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah, a little bit.
- 11:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:32SPEAKER_04: Um, but anyway, it's it is loss, I I think.
- 11:36SPEAKER_04: I mean, there's a there are a lot of people that were early KISS fans and a lot of people that were Ace Fraley fans.
- 11:41SPEAKER_04: And he was a unique individual, that's for sure.
- 11:44SPEAKER_04: The spaceman.
- 11:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:45SPEAKER_04: You know?
- 11:46SPEAKER_08: There was a Did anybody s did is is it what did he die of?
- 11:51SPEAKER_04: Oh, yes.
- 11:52SPEAKER_04: So uh we we didn't go there.
- 11:54SPEAKER_09: I haven't I haven't I haven't seen anything about it.
- 11:56SPEAKER_04: So he why?
- 11:58SPEAKER_04: So he uh well he fell and uh he fell once and he was fine.
- 12:05SPEAKER_04: Um I guess he fell and and hit his head or something, but he was fine.
- 12:10SPEAKER_04: And um everybody checked in with him and he he was good.
- 12:13SPEAKER_04: Well then like a couple weeks later, he fell again down his stairs.
- 12:18SPEAKER_04: Oh and hit his head and had a brain bleed.
- 12:22SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 12:23SPEAKER_04: He was uh in a coma for a long time and eventually it just couldn't come back from it.
- 12:29SPEAKER_04: I had I hadn't heard why he I didn't know if he was sick or No, no, it was from what I understand, it was a it was uh just an accident.
- 12:37SPEAKER_04: I mean he fell down the stairs and I mean I don't know if he was drunk.
- 12:40SPEAKER_04: I don't know what I don't know what his history is.
- 12:43SPEAKER_04: I I mean I know he's has a history of of substance, but I don't know if he he might have been clean.
- 12:48SPEAKER_04: I mean you know for the past number of years.
- 12:50SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 12:51SPEAKER_04: Because I'm not a a huge fan of the Yeah, I don't you know we didn't know I can't really say that he was drunk.
- 12:56SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 12:57SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 12:57SPEAKER_04: Um but I do know that he fell.
- 12:59SPEAKER_04: And he is I mean he's in his late 70s, I think.
- 13:01SPEAKER_04: Oh, he's gotta be, yeah.
- 13:02SPEAKER_04: You know, or early 70s.
- 13:04SPEAKER_04: So I I don't think he's he's not a young man.
- 13:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 13:07SPEAKER_04: So he fell, but he hit his head.
- 13:09SPEAKER_04: And and uh could happen anyway.
- 13:11SPEAKER_04: Yep, and and didn't recover.
- 13:12SPEAKER_04: So uh rest in peace, ace freely.
- 13:16SPEAKER_04: Uh I think there was somebody else that passed away.
- 13:18SPEAKER_09: Uh the bass player from Limp Biscuit passed away.
- 13:21SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 13:21SPEAKER_04: And they haven't given a cause of death for that.
- 13:23SPEAKER_04: Uh liver disease.
- 13:24SPEAKER_04: Oh, they did liver disease.
- 13:25SPEAKER_04: They did, okay.
- 13:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 13:26SPEAKER_04: Um and there was another, it was another, there was a jazz bass player.
- 13:31SPEAKER_09: Anthony Jackson.
- 13:32SPEAKER_09: Yes, Anthony Jackson.
- 13:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 13:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 13:35SPEAKER_04: Um that's three, right?
- 13:38SPEAKER_04: So we're good for a while.
- 13:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we're good for a while.
- 13:41SPEAKER_04: Um but the other the other thing that happened is basically MTV finally took its last breath.
- 13:50SPEAKER_10: Finally.
- 13:51SPEAKER_04: Um somebody put a friggin' bullet in their head.
- 13:54SPEAKER_04: Well, you know, MTV was I thought of course it was part of my childhood.
- 13:59SPEAKER_04: When it when it when it debuted and it was like it was something else.
- 14:07SPEAKER_04: I mean it was we didn't get it at first, obviously, because we didn't get cable or anything like that.
- 14:11SPEAKER_04: But eventually we did get cable, excuse me.
- 14:15SPEAKER_04: Um and which came with MTV.
- 14:18SPEAKER_04: And I was glued to it, man.
- 14:20SPEAKER_04: I mean you remember when we were into all the hairbands and stuff, and I would watch, you know, Headbanger's Ball and you know Well, honestly, it was the only place we were getting modern music from.
- 14:32SPEAKER_04: It's true.
- 14:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:34SPEAKER_09: Because they weren't playing it on the radio.
- 14:36SPEAKER_04: Nope.
- 14:36SPEAKER_09: Up here.
- 14:37SPEAKER_04: No, not up here.
- 14:38SPEAKER_04: So yeah, that's the only way that's the one.
- 14:42SPEAKER_09: Oh, what's what's new, you know?
- 14:44SPEAKER_04: Stay tuned in.
- 14:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:45SPEAKER_04: Um and then geez, what was it?
- 14:48SPEAKER_04: It had it was in the nineties.
- 14:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it was like mid-90s.
- 14:51SPEAKER_04: That they just stopped playing music.
- 14:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they just or if they didn't stop, they would reserve an hour here and then an hour like overnight.
- 15:01SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 15:02SPEAKER_04: To or a couple hours overnight to play music videos.
- 15:05SPEAKER_09: I blame Road Rules or uh what was it?
- 15:07SPEAKER_09: Real World.
- 15:08SPEAKER_09: Real World.
- 15:08SPEAKER_04: Real and Road Rules.
- 15:09SPEAKER_09: And Road Rules, yeah.
- 15:10SPEAKER_04: You know, all those reality shows that they that they started, and there's they were still doing to this day.
- 15:16SPEAKER_04: Just stupid reality shows.
- 15:18SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 15:19SPEAKER_04: And um that's all it became was reality shows, and it took it over.
- 15:25SPEAKER_04: And we kept saying for years and years and years, change the name of the thing.
- 15:29SPEAKER_04: It's not music television.
- 15:30SPEAKER_08: It's not MTV, man.
- 15:31SPEAKER_04: You're not you're not doing music.
- 15:33SPEAKER_04: I haven't played in music since 90 something.
- 15:35SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 15:36SPEAKER_04: So I mean they did they did MTV Unplugged, which was great.
- 15:39SPEAKER_04: They did a bunch of cool shows, but then reality TV took over and it was Well, they just had their VMA awards of what was it, a month or so ago?
- 15:48SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 15:48SPEAKER_09: Which And we were like What videos?
- 15:50SPEAKER_09: What what video are you talking about?
- 15:52SPEAKER_09: You're not they nobody's making videos anymore.
- 15:54SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 15:54SPEAKER_04: So And if they are, MTV sure isn't showing them.
- 15:58SPEAKER_09: Yeah, exactly.
- 15:59SPEAKER_04: So finally MTV, the the the music video actually I think MTV in general, right?
- 16:04SPEAKER_04: Is it MTV in general?
- 16:05SPEAKER_04: That's my understanding, the whole channel just kind of just kind of shut shut down.
- 16:10SPEAKER_04: Um a long, slow death.
- 16:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's like it's like watching somebody pass away from a like a debilitating wasting disease.
- 16:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 16:21SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 16:22SPEAKER_09: It's just like, oh when are we gonna can we put them out of their misery, you know?
- 16:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 16:27SPEAKER_04: There was a time though that it was great.
- 16:29SPEAKER_04: Um well not great, because I do think it's ironically the first video that MTV showed video killed a radio star.
- 16:38SPEAKER_04: Yep, by the buggles.
- 16:40SPEAKER_04: And it's prophetic.
- 16:41SPEAKER_04: It really is.
- 16:42SPEAKER_04: It really did.
- 16:44SPEAKER_04: Because when MTV started and and grew through the 80s, you weren't uh a star unless you had a video on MTV.
- 16:56SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 16:57SPEAKER_04: You know, and if you were a if you were a star from the 70s, you had to do a video.
- 17:02SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 17:03SPEAKER_04: MTV to keep your you know keep your leg keep your star.
- 17:06SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 17:07SPEAKER_04: Um and then Well it was like all that uh hair metal guys.
- 17:12SPEAKER_09: They were all like, oh yeah, we you know, they finally premiered our video on MTV, and all of a sudden then we got the big, you know, we got this, we got that, you know.
- 17:20SPEAKER_09: All of them.
- 17:21SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 17:21SPEAKER_09: All of them.
- 17:22SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 17:23SPEAKER_04: So and and it didn't matter if you had a song on the radio.
- 17:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it didn't matter.
- 17:29SPEAKER_04: It helped, obviously, but it didn't it didn't matter because you were on MTV.
- 17:31SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 17:32SPEAKER_04: So I think to that extent, it kind of was a double-edged sword, you know, for music.
- 17:40SPEAKER_04: Um and and then MTV stopped really playing videos and then radio became big again through the nineties and early two thousands, and and now it's all it's all gone to hell in the handbasket.
- 17:53SPEAKER_04: Stream streaming.
- 17:55SPEAKER_09: Everything sucks.
- 17:56SPEAKER_04: So true.
- 17:58SPEAKER_04: Um terrible.
- 17:59SPEAKER_04: That being said, I do have kind of a cool thing that Ultimate Classic Rock is doing.
- 18:05SPEAKER_04: Um the headline is can you name these iconic 80s music videos from a single freeze frame?
- 18:13SPEAKER_04: So you'll get a picture.
- 18:14SPEAKER_04: Okay, and you have to try and name the music video from the picture.
- 18:20SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 18:21SPEAKER_04: Now I know you didn't get MTV.
- 18:22SPEAKER_04: No, I did not.
- 18:23SPEAKER_04: But you've seen a lot of videos.
- 18:24SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 18:25SPEAKER_04: So, and I have not looked at this.
- 18:27SPEAKER_04: Can you see that okay?
- 18:28SPEAKER_04: Or should I put it up there?
- 18:29SPEAKER_08: No, that's fine.
- 18:30SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 18:30SPEAKER_04: Um, I have not looked at this, so I don't know what these videos are.
- 18:34SPEAKER_04: I don't know what the answers are.
- 18:35SPEAKER_04: So we're gonna do it together.
- 18:36SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 18:37SPEAKER_04: So um the first one That's an MTV logo.
- 18:42SPEAKER_04: Yes, it is.
- 18:43SPEAKER_04: Uh so good at this.
- 18:46SPEAKER_04: So when I look at that, I I think two things.
- 18:50SPEAKER_04: I think well, the first thing for my first guess is Rick Astley.
- 18:56SPEAKER_04: I thought it was I thought his was more like like Well uh um it's it's not uh It's not uh never let you I don't think never gonna let uh never gonna give you up.
- 19:09SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 19:10SPEAKER_04: I think it's together forever.
- 19:11SPEAKER_04: Oh maybe it is, yeah.
- 19:12SPEAKER_04: It's either that or my second guess is Mick Jagger and David Bowie.
- 19:17SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 19:18SPEAKER_04: Uh dance uh dance in the streets.
- 19:21SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:22SPEAKER_04: Um do you what do you think?
- 19:24SPEAKER_09: I think it's the Rick Astley one.
- 19:25SPEAKER_04: You think it's the riskly?
- 19:26SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 19:27SPEAKER_04: So let's see.
- 19:29SPEAKER_04: Uh oh wait.
- 19:34SPEAKER_04: Why can't I?
- 19:36SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's I guess that's not the first one.
- 19:38SPEAKER_09: Oh, it's not the first one?
- 19:39SPEAKER_09: That's not the first one.
- 19:40SPEAKER_04: Oh, this one is easy.
- 19:41SPEAKER_09: Oh, shh.
- 19:48SPEAKER_04: Aha.
- 19:49SPEAKER_04: Take on me, yes.
- 19:50SPEAKER_04: It says scroll for answer, but the answer is like right there for 1984.
- 19:54SPEAKER_10: We got this.
- 19:56SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 19:56SPEAKER_04: So, and there's the video right there.
- 19:59SPEAKER_04: Okay, we're not gonna we're not gonna watch that.
- 20:01SPEAKER_04: Let's look at this one.
- 20:04SPEAKER_04: Hmm.

- 20:10SPEAKER_04: I know the video.
- 20:11SPEAKER_04: I mean, I've seen it.
- 20:14SPEAKER_04: Oh, yes, I I know what that is.
- 20:15SPEAKER_04: That's uh like a prayer, Madonna.
- 20:17SPEAKER_04: Is it?
- 20:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 20:19SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, because that's a statue.
- 20:21SPEAKER_04: Is that like a statue of Jesus?
- 20:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 20:23SPEAKER_04: It's supposed to be, yes.
- 20:24SPEAKER_04: It is.
- 20:25SPEAKER_04: It was like a prayer for Madonna.
- 20:26SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 20:27SPEAKER_09: Oh, there it is, and there she is.
- 20:28SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 20:28SPEAKER_09: She was pretty hot then.
- 20:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, she was.
- 20:31SPEAKER_04: And then she's not gonna lie.
- 20:32SPEAKER_09: And then she Yeah, then she went downhill.
- 20:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I don't know what happened.
- 20:35SPEAKER_04: And it's not not in hotness, she just like lost her mind.
- 20:38SPEAKER_09: Well, yeah, it all went together.
- 20:40SPEAKER_09: It was like one package.
- 20:41SPEAKER_04: It's like Yeah.
- 20:42SPEAKER_09: I blame Sean Penn.
- 20:44SPEAKER_04: Um Yeah.

- 21:41SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 21:42SPEAKER_04: Uh oh, you know what I think it is?
- 21:44SPEAKER_04: This is my guess.
- 21:45SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 21:46SPEAKER_04: I think it's Prince.
- 21:48SPEAKER_09: It's not Purple Rain, or uh What was that name of his movie, Under the Bridge?
- 21:52SPEAKER_04: Purple Rain.
- 21:53SPEAKER_04: Oh, he did have a movie called Under the Bridge.
- 21:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah.

- 21:59SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: That's what I'm gonna say.

- 34:44SPEAKER_04: Ooh, I know, right?
- 34:45SPEAKER_04: We don't do that.
- 34:47SPEAKER_04: We don't do that anymore.

- 35:11SPEAKER_09: We saw it.
- 35:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we did see it witnesses from my apartment.
- 35:15SPEAKER_04: We have receipts.
- 35:16SPEAKER_04: We do.
- 35:17SPEAKER_04: But anyway, uh I give her a hard time about it.
- 35:19SPEAKER_04: But and and but they were good friends.
- 35:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 35:21SPEAKER_04: Uh they went to uh the same college, they went to school together.
- 35:24SPEAKER_04: Anyway, so we went to see Ryan's um comedy performance.
- 35:28SPEAKER_04: And let's see, how can I put this?
- 35:32SPEAKER_04: Ryan was great.
- 35:33SPEAKER_04: Ryan was the headliner, right?
- 35:35SPEAKER_04: He had two openers.
- 35:36SPEAKER_04: Um uh I will say this about Ryan's comedy, and he warned us uh ahead of time um that because he doesn't play up here very often.
- 35:48SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 35:48SPEAKER_04: Uh, but he's he said you're getting the$10 show because you paid$10, you're getting the$10 show.
- 35:53SPEAKER_04: And 75% of what he did I've already seen.
- 35:57SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 35:58SPEAKER_04: You know, I mean he he rehashed an old routine.
- 36:01SPEAKER_04: Oh, sure.
- 36:01SPEAKER_04: He added a few things in and stuff like that.
- 36:03SPEAKER_04: And it was funny.
- 36:04SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's still you know, and that whole crowd is packed with Ryan Gartley friends and stuff.
- 36:07SPEAKER_04: Oh, sure.
- 36:08SPEAKER_04: You know, yeah.
- 36:08SPEAKER_04: And everybody obviously laughed.
- 36:10SPEAKER_04: And some of them some of them finished his jokes.
- 36:15SPEAKER_09: Ah, yeah.
- 36:16SPEAKER_04: Or at least one of them.
- 36:17SPEAKER_04: That's gotta be a nightmare for him.
- 36:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, right.
- 36:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 36:19SPEAKER_04: Uh but he was great.
- 36:20SPEAKER_04: I mean, and he's he's got a natural um he's got natural timing.
- 36:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 36:26SPEAKER_04: And you know, he's natural delivery.
- 36:28SPEAKER_09: Well, he was always funny.
- 36:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:30SPEAKER_04: You know.
- 36:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 36:31SPEAKER_04: Uh the two guys that were on before him were uh well, there was a there was a guy that was the host of the show, and he was not funny.
- 36:42SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 36:42SPEAKER_04: There were a couple of instances that were funny, like where his interaction with the audience and stuff like that.
- 36:48SPEAKER_04: But they always resort to adult stuff.
- 36:51SPEAKER_04: Oh, sure.
- 36:52SPEAKER_04: Um, I'm not sure why they feel they need to, but and I'm not a prude or anything, but it just some of it's not necessary.
- 37:00SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 37:01SPEAKER_04: Anyway, he wasn't that funny.
- 37:03SPEAKER_04: And then the other guy was horrible.
- 37:06SPEAKER_04: It was like he was standing up at the microphone and just uh reading.
- 37:11SPEAKER_04: He wasn't reading, but it seemed like he was reading.
- 37:14SPEAKER_04: Like, okay, that's my that's one joke, I'm gonna go to the next joke.
- 37:17SPEAKER_04: And it was really bad.
- 37:19SPEAKER_04: It was it wasn't even funny.
- 37:20SPEAKER_04: People were laughing out of courtesy, you know?
- 37:23SPEAKER_04: It was pretty bad.
- 37:25SPEAKER_04: But the reason I stopped when I saw this, because we already named this, right?
- 37:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 37:29SPEAKER_04: Hee-ha.
- 37:31SPEAKER_04: So Garley has this idea.
- 37:33SPEAKER_04: Uh I hope I mean, who listens?
- 37:36SPEAKER_04: We have like twenty-five listeners, so nobody's gonna hear this.
- 37:39SPEAKER_04: But uh he wants to incorporate the Star City Syndicate.
- 37:43SPEAKER_04: Uh he's writing a hee-haw type variety show where it incorporates comedy and the Star City Syndicate.
- 37:56SPEAKER_04: So he would like to, he's been talking to Morton about it.
- 37:59SPEAKER_04: He would like to Was Morton there?
- 38:01SPEAKER_04: Morton was there.
- 38:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 38:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 38:02SPEAKER_04: I sat right next to him.
- 38:03SPEAKER_04: And and he he would like to uh do like a hee-haw type show that he's writing with the Star City Syndicate.
- 38:15SPEAKER_04: And I think it's a neat idea.
- 38:17SPEAKER_04: I also think it's kind of odd, but Gartley is all for it.
- 38:24SPEAKER_09: He's he's Well that you know, our fundraising show would be a good time for that.
- 38:29SPEAKER_04: Well, that's what it that's what Morton was thinking.
- 38:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 38:32SPEAKER_04: Um so uh just be ready.
- 38:37SPEAKER_04: That that may be coming down the pike.
- 38:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 38:39SPEAKER_04: Not sure if it's he I mean it's gonna be a reality or not, but but uh he was telling me all about it.
- 38:45SPEAKER_04: He's like, you know, we just kind of like little skits, you know, and I was like, uh most of the people in the band would be would be amenable to be up for that.
- 38:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:53SPEAKER_04: You know.
- 38:54SPEAKER_04: Um so anyway, but yeah, you were right.
- 38:57SPEAKER_04: This is he haw.
- 38:58SPEAKER_09: That but the second guy you remind me of was was uh from uh when uh John Lithgow was on Third Rock from the Sun.
- 39:06SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 39:06SPEAKER_09: And he tried to be a stand-up comedian, he was like, joke one! And you told a joke, okay, joke two.
- 39:13SPEAKER_04: I don't remember that, but that sounds uh let's see.

- 43:39SPEAKER_04: Just do some Toto.
- 43:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:40SPEAKER_04: Uh but I do want to share some new music.
- 43:42SPEAKER_04: Now, you know how what a big fan of Vince Gill I am.
- 43:45SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 43:45SPEAKER_04: And and we talked about did we talk I think we talked about did we talk about it on the podcast about his record deal?
- 43:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:51SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 43:52SPEAKER_04: Two or three weeks ago?
- 43:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:53SPEAKER_04: Something like that.
- 43:54SPEAKER_04: So he's he's got a lifetime record deal with MCA.
- 43:57SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 43:57SPEAKER_04: Which was his record label anyway.
- 43:59SPEAKER_04: Uh for For the longest time.
- 44:01SPEAKER_04: Um and he's got about seventy-four songs.
- 44:06SPEAKER_04: So he's releasing an EP a month until they're all right out.
- 44:12SPEAKER_04: Which is a lot.
- 44:13SPEAKER_04: So I got the first EP.
- 44:15SPEAKER_04: Nice.
- 44:16SPEAKER_04: Um the whole series is called Fifty Years from Home.
- 44:20SPEAKER_04: Um and just you know, uh and I love Vinskill.
- 44:27SPEAKER_04: Um and I'm not saying it's bad, because it's good, but it's very slow.
- 44:33SPEAKER_04: You know, I mean, he's known for the ballads and stuff.
- 44:37SPEAKER_04: But I love his up tempo stuff.
- 44:40SPEAKER_04: Um but there aren't any up tempo songs on this EP.
- 44:44SPEAKER_04: So, but I I've I've picked a couple that I w want to share a little bit of.
- 44:51SPEAKER_04: Um and it's you know, if you know Vince Gill, then you'll recognize some of this stuff.
- 44:58SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's all brand new stuff, but it's nothing you haven't heard before.
- 45:02SPEAKER_04: Right, really.
- 45:03SPEAKER_04: So I'll give you the first track.
- 45:04SPEAKER_04: This is called I Gave You Everything I Had, and this kind of sums up what this whole project is for Vince Gill.
- 45:12SPEAKER_04: Um so just let's listen to just a little bit of it and then maybe a chorus or something.
- 45:19SPEAKER_13: I still got songs I'm dying to sing, but man, my fingers ache these old guitar strings.
- 45:33SPEAKER_13: Spin the hounds remembering the stand the time are a precious thing.
- 45:48SPEAKER_13: I've said goodbye to some real good friends.
- 45:54SPEAKER_13: Life looks different to an aging land.
- 46:02SPEAKER_13: I don't question it will end.
- 46:08SPEAKER_13: I just wait for I gave you everything.
- 46:42SPEAKER_04: So, I mean, it's pretty pretty standard.
- 46:45SPEAKER_09: Well, it's pretty prophetic.
- 46:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 46:47SPEAKER_09: He's talking about his career.
- 46:48SPEAKER_09: His career.
- 46:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 46:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 46:50SPEAKER_04: Um the the whole lens thing.
- 46:54SPEAKER_04: You know, if I'm not gonna uh critique it.
- 46:56SPEAKER_04: Well, I guess I am gonna kind of critique it because I'm in a weird place.
- 47:00SPEAKER_04: Uh I don't know if you saw I posted some stuff.
- 47:02SPEAKER_04: Uh some piano stuff.
- 47:04SPEAKER_04: Some piano stuff.
- 47:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 47:05SPEAKER_04: Um be and and I overthink things, and we we we talk about this ad nauseum and I appreciate you you know putting up with it.
- 47:14SPEAKER_04: Um but I have besties do.
- 47:17SPEAKER_04: I haven't written a song in a couple of years.
- 47:19SPEAKER_04: And so I've been doing this piano stuff, and it's very cathartic for me.
- 47:23SPEAKER_04: Because I can sit down at a piano and I'm and I'm not a very gr good piano player per se.
- 47:29SPEAKER_04: But uh I can sit down and write a melody uh pretty easily.
- 47:34SPEAKER_04: Um and so I've been doing this this piano stuff just to just to create, because I need to create something.
- 47:41SPEAKER_04: And and my wife kinda she didn't get mad at me, but I I put some of this stuff on YouTube and shared it on my social media, and she's like, now nobody's gonna buy it when you actually, you know, put it on whatever, you know.
- 47:55SPEAKER_04: Go bad.
- 47:56SPEAKER_04: But that that's not what matters to me.
- 47:58SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 47:58SPEAKER_04: I don't it probably should, but the fact that I'm creating and I'm putting it out there is right now enough.
- 48:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 48:07SPEAKER_04: You know.
- 48:08SPEAKER_04: I want to get back to writing songs.
- 48:10SPEAKER_04: I just there's some sort of block and I'm not sure what it is.
- 48:13SPEAKER_04: But I listen to that and I'm like, of course, you know, a lot of Vince Gill lyrics are simple.
- 48:21SPEAKER_04: You know, the language is it's not it's not I mean, it's I'm not saying it's not poetic.
- 48:27SPEAKER_04: It's real.
- 48:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he's no Neil Pearce.
- 48:30SPEAKER_04: He's no Neil Pearce, right.
- 48:31SPEAKER_04: There's no there's although he has big words or anything, you know, you know Although he has written songs that are great, like pr like profound songs.
- 48:42SPEAKER_04: Song the the The River.
- 48:43SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 48:43SPEAKER_04: Uh or A River Like You.
- 48:45SPEAKER_04: It was one of my favorite Vince Gill songs that nobody knows.
- 48:48SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 48:48SPEAKER_04: Because it was like an album track on his four album set, you know, and it wasn't a single.
- 48:53SPEAKER_04: But the lyrics of that song are amazing.
- 48:56SPEAKER_04: But sometimes you just overthink things, you know, like that song right there.
- 49:02SPEAKER_04: It's it's nice.
- 49:04SPEAKER_04: Uh I, as a songwriter, I might have tried harder.
- 49:10SPEAKER_04: Do you know what I mean?
- 49:11SPEAKER_04: It's and I don't mean it like if you did it.
- 49:15SPEAKER_04: Or he should have.
- 49:17SPEAKER_04: Well, no, it's not that he should have, because I would have tried harder.
- 49:22SPEAKER_04: To make it a little more um colorful, a little more poetic.
- 49:28SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 49:29SPEAKER_04: The way he speaks is plain language.
- 49:31SPEAKER_04: And that's great because that's that's that's all you need.
- 49:35SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 49:35SPEAKER_04: You know?
- 49:36SPEAKER_04: And if you like Vince Gill, that's what you're gonna get.
- 49:38SPEAKER_04: And that's great.
- 49:40SPEAKER_04: Um but I overthink things, you know?
- 49:43SPEAKER_04: And why can't I just sit down and write in plain words?
- 49:47SPEAKER_04: W I don't have anything to write right now, but I overthink it.
- 49:51SPEAKER_04: It's like, oh, this isn't good enough.
- 49:53SPEAKER_09: Well, maybe you should.
- 49:54SPEAKER_09: I know.
- 49:55SPEAKER_09: Maybe you should just write plain words.
- 49:56SPEAKER_09: I should, maybe.
- 49:58SPEAKER_09: And then say we're and then you can always go back and edit it.
- 50:00SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 50:01SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean?
- 50:02SPEAKER_04: It's but I sit on it for a week.
- 50:04SPEAKER_04: I don't get past that.
- 50:05SPEAKER_04: Now I get it.
- 50:06SPEAKER_04: You know, it's just it's weird.
- 50:08SPEAKER_04: Uh I'm gonna play you one a piece of one more.
- 50:10SPEAKER_04: Uh this one is called When a Soldier Dies.
- 50:13SPEAKER_04: And yes, it is a little slow.
- 50:18SPEAKER_04: And uh, but I think it's great.
- 50:20SPEAKER_04: I love it.
- 50:20SPEAKER_04: I love all this stuff.
- 50:21SPEAKER_04: It's simple.
- 50:24SPEAKER_04: The melody is simple, and it it's almost familiar, right?
- 50:31SPEAKER_13: I mean you can we still do not shoot he was fighting for one night that showed up at our door with the purple heart nothing.
- 50:57SPEAKER_04: See, that's pretty great.
- 51:09SPEAKER_13: We're broken like we've never been.
- 51:20SPEAKER_13: What's that means no one win?
- 51:26SPEAKER_13: Spread the deadliest to stay.
- 51:32SPEAKER_13: I don't think I understand I want to be a fellow man.
- 52:03SPEAKER_04: Obviously, he's, you know, making a commentary.
- 52:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know, yeah.
- 52:08SPEAKER_04: Which is I think what a lot a lot of people feel, but I'm and a lot of what I like about Vince Gill is uh his voice and this and this production and the sound and you know the harmonies and everything.
- 52:31SPEAKER_04: You know.
- 52:32SPEAKER_04: So anyway, yeah, uh that's the first installment uh of 50 years from home.
- 52:38SPEAKER_04: Uh Vince Gill's new EP.
- 52:40SPEAKER_04: Uh there'll be a new one next month.
- 52:41SPEAKER_09: So that's kinda cool.
- 52:43SPEAKER_09: Hey, little fun fact I learned over the weekend.
- 52:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 52:46SPEAKER_09: He mentioned Purple Hearts.
- 52:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 52:48SPEAKER_09: Did you know all the purple hearts that have been warding since World War II?
- 52:53SPEAKER_09: Are in the same batch since World War II.
- 52:56SPEAKER_04: What do you mean?
- 52:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 53:00SPEAKER_09: Because they were anticipating so many casualties from the invasion, planned invasion of Japan.
- 53:06SPEAKER_09: So they pre-made all like half a million purple hearts.
- 53:10SPEAKER_09: So all the ones that they're awarding even today are from that batch.
- 53:15SPEAKER_04: That's unreal.
- 53:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 53:17SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 53:20SPEAKER_04: That's disturbing is not the word.
- 53:24SPEAKER_09: But it makes you think, man.
- 53:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 53:27SPEAKER_09: They were anticipating half a million.
- 53:30SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 53:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 53:32SPEAKER_09: That's that's that's a low estimate.
- 53:34SPEAKER_09: Maybe that is disturbing.
- 53:36SPEAKER_09: Thank goodness for the atomic bomb.
- 53:38SPEAKER_09: That's all I'm gonna say.
- 53:39SPEAKER_09: Wow.
- 53:41SPEAKER_09: So think about that.
- 53:43SPEAKER_09: Chew on that! That's Doug's history a moment.
- 53:48SPEAKER_09: Brought to you by sparkling ice.
- 53:50SPEAKER_09: Sparkling, yes.
- 53:52SPEAKER_09: Starbucks thank you, by the way, for the sparkling ice.
- 53:54SPEAKER_04: Strawberry flavor this week.
- 53:55SPEAKER_04: I do I do appreciate the sparkling ass.
- 53:59SPEAKER_04: Sparkling ash?
- 54:00SPEAKER_04: Sparkling ash.
- 54:02SPEAKER_04: Spockash.
- 54:03SPEAKER_04: Sparkling ash.
- 54:03SPEAKER_04: Sparkash.
- 54:05SPEAKER_04: What are we calling this episode?
- 54:07SPEAKER_04: Sparkling ass.
- 54:08SPEAKER_04: Sparkling ash.
- 54:09SPEAKER_04: Sorry, Blanchard children.
- 54:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, right.
- 54:11SPEAKER_04: Um, believe it or not, I think the Blanchard children uh have heard and say and say a lot worse.
- 54:17SPEAKER_04: Really?
- 54:19SPEAKER_09: See, I can't picture that.
- 54:21SPEAKER_09: No, knowing who their parents are.
- 54:24SPEAKER_09: Well, never mind.
- 54:26SPEAKER_09: Never mind.
- 54:27SPEAKER_09: It's all good though.
- 54:28SPEAKER_09: It's all good.
- 54:29SPEAKER_03: It's all good.
- 54:31SPEAKER_04: Um Yeah.
- 54:34SPEAKER_04: I think uh I think uh the mom, I think Hillary, you know, lets an S-word fly every once in a while.
- 54:40SPEAKER_09: And and uh Well I would too if I if I if I had 74,000 children.
- 54:46SPEAKER_09: Of course.
- 54:46SPEAKER_09: I would be like, you know, blinkety blink blink blank.
- 54:51SPEAKER_04: It's actually quite comical when when the the little ones kind of let it fly.
- 54:56SPEAKER_09: Oh sure, man.
- 54:58SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 54:58SPEAKER_04: And she doesn't like let them.
- 55:00SPEAKER_04: It's just a lot of people.
- 55:00SPEAKER_09: Oh no, it's just it's gonna happen.
- 55:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 55:02SPEAKER_09: I think I think it's in the DNA.
- 55:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 55:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 55:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for sure.
- 55:06SPEAKER_04: Um, so yeah, let's do this.
- 55:08SPEAKER_04: Because we screwed up a little bit.
- 55:10SPEAKER_04: A little bit.
- 55:11SPEAKER_04: A little bit.
- 55:12SPEAKER_09: We did mixtape uh Yeah, we've been having a hard time mixtape lately.
- 55:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 55:17SPEAKER_04: So we don't have an answer.
- 55:19SPEAKER_09: Yes, I think I think she did get back to you.
- 55:21SPEAKER_04: She did get back to you, okay, because so here's what happened.
- 55:23SPEAKER_04: We did mixtape last week.
- 55:26SPEAKER_04: Um and so we got we got her judgedness's uh critique, and then we did uh the present, right?
- 55:39SPEAKER_04: Is that right?
- 55:40SPEAKER_04: But we didn't pick a future question.
- 55:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we didn't pick a future question.
- 55:42SPEAKER_04: So we forgot.
- 55:43SPEAKER_04: So we don't have a question for today, but we do have we do have the one from last time.
- 55:48SPEAKER_04: The one from last time, which was uh something about the driver lic driver, I'll read it too.
- 55:52SPEAKER_09: Driver license.
- 55:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, play the song you jammed to on the day you got your driver's license.
- 55:59SPEAKER_04: And so now we have her judges.
- 56:02SPEAKER_09: Here's our judgment.
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: Um epic for the it sounds like really good.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: Um but part of the was definitely close I can because I love that one.
- 57:18SPEAKER_04: Cool.
- 57:19SPEAKER_04: Sweet.
- 57:21SPEAKER_04: Um she's right though.
- 57:23SPEAKER_04: I mean, the that's I and I can understand the the the toss up there.
- 57:27SPEAKER_04: And I can understand the ACDC too, even though I thought uh cousin Larry's was a good was a good pick.
- 57:33SPEAKER_04: But ACDC is overplayed.
- 57:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah, but you gotta understand that's what cousin Larry's question and then that's that's his jam.
- 57:40SPEAKER_04: And also, I mean, the question was when you took your driver's test, and that was what he was listening to.
- 57:45SPEAKER_04: So but she had she had some good points.
- 57:49SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 57:49SPEAKER_04: So she's wicked man.
- 57:50SPEAKER_04: She's wrong, but but you know, she she did she did well.
- 57:53SPEAKER_04: She's wrong.
- 57:56SPEAKER_04: Okay, so we're not gonna let this one slide.
- 57:58SPEAKER_04: We have to pick one.
- 57:59SPEAKER_04: Yes, right?
- 58:00SPEAKER_04: So here I'm gonna give you that.
- 58:01SPEAKER_04: Yes, have some.
- 58:02SPEAKER_04: Yes, have some.
- 58:03SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 58:05SPEAKER_09: So did she so did she just get you that like uh like I I text when we s before we started recording, I uh I thought so because she she usually she usually but sometimes she gets busy at work and um she would get you know at her job doing stuff that I'm not gonna tell you about.
- 58:22SPEAKER_03: Oh darn it.
- 58:22SPEAKER_03: I was gonna try to trick you.
- 58:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah, her and I actually had a good conversation about that.
- 58:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 58:28SPEAKER_04: So so what so you you're gonna you're not going to budge?
- 58:32SPEAKER_04: I'm leaving it completely up to her.
- 58:34SPEAKER_09: I mean, if she ever wants to reveal her identity, that's totally up to her, but uh Do you s how often do you see her?
- 58:42SPEAKER_09: See her?
- 58:43SPEAKER_09: Not very often, just because of the nature of her work.
- 58:46SPEAKER_09: But uh nature of her work.
- 58:48SPEAKER_09: But we talk all the time on Snapchat.
- 58:50SPEAKER_04: Is she in law enforcement?
- 58:52SPEAKER_07: I don't know.
- 58:57SPEAKER_04: She's a prison guard.
- 59:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you you guessed that last week.
- 59:02SPEAKER_09: Oh, did I?
- 59:02SPEAKER_09: And I said, absolutely.
- 59:04SPEAKER_09: Did I really guess that?
- 59:05SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 59:06SPEAKER_04: I don't know why.
- 59:07SPEAKER_04: Because we joked about the Holton Hilton.
- 59:09SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's right.
- 59:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's right.
- 59:11SPEAKER_04: Um she is a you're not gonna tell me anyway, so I don't know why I'm guessing.
- 59:16SPEAKER_09: I am not.
- 59:19SPEAKER_09: Like Belinda Carlisle once said, My lips are sealed.
- 59:24SPEAKER_04: Did you find one?
- 59:25SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I did.
- 59:25SPEAKER_09: I I don't I I don't know.
- 59:27SPEAKER_09: This is actually gonna be kind of funny, but uh what song would you flash mob to as a way to impress a first date?
- 59:37SPEAKER_09: And then parentheses it says, Remember flash mobs?
- 59:42SPEAKER_09: That's that's what that's the only reason I chose it because of that parentheses part.
- 59:46SPEAKER_04: Remember flash mobs?
- 59:48SPEAKER_04: Where did I I just saw something that was a flash mob um that was pretty great, actually.
- 59:54SPEAKER_04: Oh, you know, you know what it was?
- 59:56SPEAKER_04: It was uh uh Star Wars um thing in a mall where they actually did a guys at a lightsaber duel?
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I did see that that went viral or something.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_04: That's kind of like a flash mob type thing.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_09: Kind of dorky.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it was dorky, but it was you know, you gotta it's endearing.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_04: You know, but I mean you had the singers, the the woman out there.
- 1:00:17unknown: Woo!
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that was I was like, okay, this just got weird.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_04: Uh okay, so that's uh mixtape for this week.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_04: Mixtape.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_09: I didn't even do the intro.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_09: It's mixtape! It was mixtape.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_09: There we go.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_04: You wanna do it again?
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_09: No, I'm getting it.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_04: Okay, good.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_04: I just did it.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_04: Um, so we're gonna take a break.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_09: We're screwing up mixtape anyway.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_09: Might as well keep on screwing it up.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_04: Keep on screwing it up.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_04: Uh, we're gonna take a break and we'll come back.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_04: Are you gonna read or are we just gonna do Lucather?
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_09: I think we should just do Lukather.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_04: So it is um one of our favorites, uh Toto guitar player, Steve Lucither's birthday today.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_04: Do we know how old he is?
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_04: 172.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_04: No, he's not.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_09: You're making that up.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_09: No, you do that, and then you go, wow, he looks really good for 172.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_04: You know who is a freak of nature?
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_04: Sammy Hagar.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_04: I know.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_04: Dude's 78 years old, and he just partied in Cabo, you know, with all these all these rock stars, and you know, Belinda Carl.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_04: Speaking of Belinda Carlisle, she got up and sang uh Heaven is a Place on Earth and a couple of bang or um Go-Go songs with Sammy Hagar.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_09: He's like 78 years old.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I mean, the dude is just a freak of nature.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_09: I think he's got alien DNA.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_04: I think you're probably right.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_04: Uh Lukather is 68 today.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_08: I'll allow it.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_04: So we'll uh we will uh listen to some Todo and maybe some Lukather himself.

- 1:03:40SPEAKER_04: Oh I keep forgetting I have to do that.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_04: Is that Toto?
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_04: Not really.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_04: I'm looking for a worm pad.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_09: Where are we all?
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_04: Let's go with that.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_17: So uh Happy birthday to you.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_17: Nope, that's wrong.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_17: Happy birthday to you, Steve.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_17: Happy birthday to you, Steve.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_17: Happy birthday, dear Steve, Steve.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_17: Happy birthday to you, Steve.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_04: We are so stupid.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_09: All right, let's uh I actually I heard somebody they it was a TV show, and they were singing happy birthday to somebody, but instead of saying happy birthday to you, they said the person's name.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_09: Like, yeah, happy birthday to Bob, happy birthday to Bob, happy birthday, dear Bob, happy birthday to Bob.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_09: That was more personal, right?
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_09: I was like, that's pretty cool.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and you don't have to pay royalties because it's not the song.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_04: Smart.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_04: Do you have to pay royalties to sing happy birthday?
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_09: Well, isn't that the thing?
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_09: They they copyrighted the song, so anytime it's on a TV show or anything, they Oh, I don't know.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_04: I didn't hear that.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_09: Anyway, uh alright, so you Googled or AI'd or Well, I Googled like Steve Lukather best guitar solos or whatever.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_09: So this is what Google AI said.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_09: Because, you know, yeah, that's what they do now.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_09: Steve Lukather's best solos are often cited as being the Toto Tracks, Rosanna and Africa, as well as his work on Michael Jackson's Africa.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah, there's no soul.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_09: He doesn't have a soul on it.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_09: Stupid AI.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_09: On Michael uh as well as his work on Michael Jackson's Beat.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_09: Other notable solos are found on George Benson's Turn Your Love Around.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, and Randy Newman.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_09: I love LA.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_09: Fans also frequently mention the solos on Toto's Home of the Brave and his work on Wild Things Run Fast and Lovers of the Night.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_09: And then it just lists uh Toto songs, Rosanna, Africa, Home of the Brave, Lovers of the Night, Michael Jackson beat it, George Benson.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_09: Cher.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_09: His solo on If I Could Turn Back Time.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_04: Lionel Ritchie.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_04: Uh slow down.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_04: Oh, sorry.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_04: Slow down.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_04: I want to play a couple of these.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_04: So you just mentioned Cher.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_04: Let's go let's go to that.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_04: Um, because like we've said year for years and years and years, uh, if it happened in if it was music and it happened in the 70s and 80s, chances are Steve Lucwither played guitar on.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_04: So so let's just go.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_03: Where's the solo?
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_03: Let's see.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_09: I don't remember the solo of this.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_09: I've been here.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_04: AI.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_04: Probably like oh I well, I know there's one spot, but it's not really a guy.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_04: I think it's right here.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_04: It's not really a guitar solo.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_19: That's not a guitar solo.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_09: Not really.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_19: That's like a an embellishment.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's really good.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so there's no guitar.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_09: Okay, so let's let's see what I got some other Google hits for.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_09: So I don't see anything.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_09: This is from Prague Archives.com.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_09: Steve Luke through top five guitar solos.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_09: There you go.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_09: Um White Sister.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_04: I think I have a library.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_04: Well, it's Bobby Kimball was amazing.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_19: All right, I'm gonna see if I can find the guitar solo here.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_19: So YouTube has this thing which says most replayed.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_19: All right.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_19: This section right here is the most replayed.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_04: It's buried in the mix though.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_04: What else you got?
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_09: Well this guy made a Spotify playlist of all his like he thinks.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_09: That's pretty expensive here.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_09: Um yeah.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_09: Okay, hold the line total.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_09: The dream of the Manchester?
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, well, he's been on everything.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_04: Uh let me play.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_04: You know what?
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna play you a quintessential Steve Lukather guitar solo.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_04: Uh and it's in a song that probably no one's ever heard.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_04: Um because it was on a uh Richard Marx album.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_04: Um but Richard Marx album Repeat Offender, which is his second uh major label record, came out in '89.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_04: The very first track.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_04: It's called Ain't Nothing You Can Do About It.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_04: And I liked Richard Marks back then.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_04: I I you know, I can take him or leave him now, but uh that album is one of my favorites, uh Repeat Offender.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_04: And so but the solo, the guitar solo in this song, is so Steve Lukather.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_04: Uh it's it's it's amazing.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_04: So I'm gonna play the I'll play a little bit of the song.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_04: I almost think the guitar solo in this song is more Steve Lukather than Toto.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_04: It's you'll know what I mean when you hear it.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_04: Have you ever heard this song?
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_04: Nope.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_09: I don't think so.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_16: Do it what I said I was now you sing.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_04: This is almost like a uh part two of Don't Mean Nothing.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_09: Oh, okay.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_16: Yep.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_16: Take it back button.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_16: Don't make the Alright, that's the song.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_19: So I'm gonna forward to the guitar solo.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_19: Because this is quintessential, Steve Lucas though.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_19: It comes right after the bridge in the song.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_04: Uh that almost sounds like the the same tone as in because he did Sunset Grill, Don Henley.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_04: Down Sunset Grill.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_04: He played the lead guitar in that.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_04: Uh he did a lot of stuff in the 80s, for sure.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_04: What are you gonna what were you gonna say?
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_09: Oh, I just I was just looking at different songs here.
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_09: Uh Turn Your Love Around, George Benson.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_09: Turn your love around.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_04: Let me see if I can find the guitar solo on that.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_09: Apparently he did the guitar solo on physical.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_09: Olivia Newton John.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_04: Well, we're gonna have to listen to that just because.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_04: This is completely different than what you just heard.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_04: Because George Benson is a jazz.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_09: Well, George Benson's a really great guitar player in his own artists.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_09: Oh, he is, yeah, for sure.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_04: Um jazz guitar.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_04: And everybody knows the song.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_04: And I think uh see Lukather co-wrote this song.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_09: He probably did.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_04: Let me find out.
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_04: The song was written by Bill Champlin of Chicago, Steve Lucuther of Toto, and producer and guitarist Jay Grayton.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_19: Alright, let's uh jump ahead.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_09: I do like this song.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_09: It's an awesome song, man.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_04: Right after the bridge.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_19: Maybe not.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_19: Let's see.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_19: Did I miss something?
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_04: Where's the guitar solo?
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_04: I can shall there's no guitar solo.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_04: Who put that down?
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_04: That's ridiculous.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_04: There's no guitar solo in that song.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_04: Well, they're a liar.
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_09: I keep seeing Running with the Knight, Lionel Richie.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_09: Still popping up everywhere.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, let me do this one first though, because you said uh let's uh let's hear that.
- 1:17:47SPEAKER_04: Steve Lukather guitar solo.
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_04: Because that's gotta be pretty smoking.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_04: Do not watch the video.
- 1:18:02SPEAKER_10: Why?
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_19: Let me let me try.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_15: Let's get physical, physical, I'm gonna get physical, let's get the physical, let me buy a dog, you body dog, let me body dog.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_19: Oh yeah.
- 1:19:02SPEAKER_19: Um trying to find I know I had Lana Richie in here, but you believe I don't have that song.
- 1:19:20SPEAKER_04: Um what was the one I was thinking of?
- 1:19:24SPEAKER_04: Uh there was one uh oh, uh the tubes.
- 1:19:31SPEAKER_09: I was just gonna mention she's a beauty.
- 1:19:33SPEAKER_09: She's a beauty.
- 1:19:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:19:34SPEAKER_09: Which surprised the crap out of me.
- 1:19:36SPEAKER_09: Right?
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_09: I didn't know that.
- 1:19:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_04: Um because you would think the tubes would play on their own.
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_09: Well, you would think so.
- 1:19:44SPEAKER_04: I guess, but you know, whatever.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_04: What do I know?
- 1:19:46SPEAKER_04: Let me play the guitar solo for She's a Be, which is a just a killer.
- 1:19:49SPEAKER_04: It's a great song.
- 1:19:50SPEAKER_04: A killer track, anyway.
- 1:20:02SPEAKER_02: I mean, come on, that's so let's go.
- 1:20:10SPEAKER_04: I think we're right about where it is.
- 1:20:53SPEAKER_04: Oh, he had such a uh signature.
- 1:20:56SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:20:56SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 1:20:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:20:57SPEAKER_04: I mean but it may it worked every time.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_19: Every time.
- 1:21:01SPEAKER_19: Oh, we said Lionel Richie.
- 1:21:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:21:05SPEAKER_04: That was a that was a um like an outro solo, I think.
- 1:21:18SPEAKER_19: This is a great song too.
- 1:21:21SPEAKER_19: That's Luke Guther right there, you can tell.
- 1:21:24SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:21:34SPEAKER_19: Sorry, they don't make music like this anymore.
- 1:21:37SPEAKER_10: No stop.
- 1:21:44SPEAKER_04: Because I don't think there's a guitar solo.
- 1:21:47SPEAKER_04: I still never remember until the end.
- 1:21:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:21:49SPEAKER_04: It's it's the outro.
- 1:21:58SPEAKER_03: This is a six-minute version.
- 1:22:01SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 1:22:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:22:56SPEAKER_02: Uh oh, I just got the coolest email.
- 1:22:59SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:22:59SPEAKER_02: So first of all, before let's we're gonna end the podcast soon.
- 1:23:03SPEAKER_02: So happy birthday, Steve Lukather.
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_10: Happy birthday, Steve.
- 1:23:06SPEAKER_04: Um so remember last week I told you, I think it was last the last podcast I told you, uh, I I transferred uh Morton's cassette tape of his band onto digital and and sent him the files.
- 1:23:20SPEAKER_04: Uh so he just sends me this email.
- 1:23:22SPEAKER_04: There's a couple things I'll read to you.
- 1:23:24SPEAKER_04: Uh number one, because he had three things, and the middle thing I don't you don't need to hear.
- 1:23:29SPEAKER_04: Uh not that you don't need to hear, I don't need to put it on the podcast.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_04: Uh number one, my brother called me this morning.
- 1:23:35SPEAKER_04: I picked up KMH Music.
- 1:23:37SPEAKER_04: Brent immediately.
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_04: Oh, it's a long way down.
- 1:23:43SPEAKER_04: That's a line from a song we sang 25 years ago at Catamacca.
- 1:23:48SPEAKER_04: You've been listening to those files?
- 1:23:50SPEAKER_04: I surmised.
- 1:23:51SPEAKER_04: Oh, only about two dozen times today.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_04: Uh he told me cheerfully.
- 1:23:58SPEAKER_04: He says, Tell your buddy Brian I owe him anything from Michigan I can fit in my car next time I come up.
- 1:24:04SPEAKER_04: Has he had Werner's?
- 1:24:05SPEAKER_04: Michigan ginger ale?
- 1:24:07SPEAKER_04: I'll bring him Werners.
- 1:24:08SPEAKER_04: And next time I smoke some beef jerky, I'm sending that too.
- 1:24:12SPEAKER_04: So uh then he says, let's see.
- 1:24:16SPEAKER_04: Uh my brother famously buys whatever he wants, whenever he wants, so he's tough to surprise, but he couldn't buy digital copies of that concert, and for lots of reasons I won't go into, you made his absolute year with those files.
- 1:24:27SPEAKER_04: He's trying to make them into vinyl records now.
- 1:24:30SPEAKER_04: Boy.
- 1:24:31SPEAKER_04: And then the last thing was pretty cool.
- 1:24:34SPEAKER_04: And three.
- 1:24:35SPEAKER_04: A young girl who came into the store today with her mom stared at me, utterly fascinated.
- 1:24:41SPEAKER_04: I smiled.
- 1:24:42SPEAKER_04: Got nothing.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_04: I said, hello.
- 1:24:45SPEAKER_04: Still nothing.
- 1:24:46SPEAKER_04: Finally, she asked me gravely, Are you in a band with Mr.
- 1:24:50SPEAKER_04: Mojer?
- 1:24:51SPEAKER_04: I am in a band with Mr.
- 1:24:53SPEAKER_04: Mosier.
- 1:24:54SPEAKER_04: Mr.
- 1:24:54SPEAKER_04: Mosier is in all of my bands.
- 1:24:56SPEAKER_04: Matter of fact, he's pretty great.
- 1:24:58SPEAKER_04: She nodded solemnly.
- 1:25:00SPEAKER_04: He is my favorite teacher.
- 1:25:02SPEAKER_04: We're going to be in a band someday, too.
- 1:25:06SPEAKER_04: I have no idea who she is, but she called Dibbs on you for the record.
- 1:25:11SPEAKER_03: There we go.
- 1:25:11SPEAKER_03: That's pretty cool.
- 1:25:12SPEAKER_09: That's awesome.
- 1:25:13SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah, that's awesome.
- 1:25:14SPEAKER_09: Uh I had his uh I had his niece last week in school.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah?
- 1:25:19SPEAKER_04: How's that going by the way?
- 1:25:20SPEAKER_04: You're still uh are you subbing a lot?
- 1:25:22SPEAKER_09: Yeah, whenever, you know, whatever.
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_04: Like like uh how many days did you sub last week?
- 1:25:25SPEAKER_09: Well last week I just did one.
- 1:25:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:25:27SPEAKER_09: But uh I was there today.
- 1:25:29SPEAKER_09: But yeah, last week I did fourth grade and she was sitting there and I kept looking at her.
- 1:25:33SPEAKER_09: I was like, geez, she looks familiar.
- 1:25:36SPEAKER_09: And I saw her name and I and it kind of clicked and I w I I went up to her.
- 1:25:40SPEAKER_09: I said, Your uncle Chris Morton.
- 1:25:43SPEAKER_09: She went and I said I said I said, I'm in a band with your uncle, she goes, Oh yeah.
- 1:25:55SPEAKER_04: It's neat being almost, almost famous.
- 1:25:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I mean, I think the kids know they they they've seen me before.
