- 0:32Speaker 1: of postseason play, and of course we're capping off Week
- 0:35Speaker 1: seventeen with tonight's Rams versus Falcons game. One thing we
- 0:39Speaker 1: want to let you guys know about, if you haven't
- 0:40Speaker 1: seen it already, Fanduels Drive same game parlay picture this.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I want you to close your eyes unless you're on
- 0:45Speaker 1: the road right now. We're gonna use We're gonna envision
- 0:48Speaker 1: all of it. You see my hand going down over
- 0:50Speaker 1: my face. That's what we're envisioning. Picture this. You see
- 0:53Speaker 1: the rams. They have a little bit of momentum. Right Stafford,
- 0:56Speaker 1: he's slinking it, pooking a cool. He catches everything. You
- 0:59Speaker 1: think to yourself, Hey, I got a thought. There's no
- 1:01Speaker 1: way they don't score a touchdown this drive. You crack
- 1:03Speaker 1: open the Fando Sports with gap you can cook up
- 1:05Speaker 1: a parlay that breaks down the drive exactly as you
- 1:08Speaker 1: see it. Because why we're manifesting right now, we're manifesting
- 1:11Speaker 1: Stafford's passing yards, Pooka's receiving yards, and the rams to
- 1:14Speaker 1: score am. Fando's giving all customers a live profit boost token.
- 1:18Speaker 1: By the way, you can stop. You can open your eyes. Now,
- 1:19Speaker 1: you can open your eyes, and I apologize. Fandos giving
- 1:22Speaker 1: all customers live profit Boosts token to use on the
- 1:25Speaker 1: game so you can boost the payout and make the
- 1:27Speaker 1: winnings even bigger. Just at the fandel dot Com slash
- 1:30Speaker 1: busting to get started, fandle play your game. Hey, Michigan's
- 1:37Speaker 1: got a football coach. We got a ball coach. Huh
- 1:40Speaker 1: got ourselves a ball coach. Kyle Whittingham twenty one seasons
- 1:44Speaker 1: at Utah over three decades at Utah. Honestly spent most
- 1:48Speaker 1: of his life in Utah. He played football at BYU,
- 1:51Speaker 1: did a little bit over there was under Urban Meyer,
- 1:54Speaker 1: and then took the head coaching job when overmine, I
- 1:56Speaker 1: believe went to Florida.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Correct?
- 1:58Speaker 1: Is that my correct in saying that? So a lot
- 2:01Speaker 1: of success there comes over hat in hand does his
- 2:05Speaker 1: press conference? He has one statement that just absolutely fires
- 2:07Speaker 1: me up. Really, did you watch the press conference, the
- 2:09Speaker 1: Michigan press conference. I didn't think you would, But it's
- 2:11Speaker 1: okay because I'm going to tell.
- 2:12Speaker 2: You everything you need to hear and check it out.
- 2:14Speaker 1: He says you will become us, we will not become you.
- 2:17Speaker 1: And that's referring to the culture of Michigan. He said
- 2:21Speaker 1: all the right things in my opinion, and then you
- 2:23Speaker 1: start to break down what's this man about to bring
- 2:24Speaker 1: because you really start to realize that Kyle Woodingham what
- 2:27Speaker 1: he is. He's a boss. He's a CEO type of
- 2:29Speaker 1: individual that is going to be the name to face
- 2:32Speaker 1: the culture of your franchise. But he's going to allow
- 2:34Speaker 1: the coaches who he brings in with great hires to
- 2:37Speaker 1: coach these guys and then game management, culture, attitude, toughness.
- 2:42Speaker 1: The whole thing comes from winning. I believe he's worked
- 2:44Speaker 1: out for more than like six thousand days in a
- 2:47Speaker 1: row or something like that. He's got some weird stat
- 2:49Speaker 1: that in that way. But start to read a couple
- 2:51Speaker 1: of things. Jason Beck the OC at Utah, that's his
- 2:55Speaker 1: front runner for who's going to be his OC at Michigan.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Scored forty one point five points per game last year.
- 3:00Speaker 1: They were the number two offense in all of college football,
- 3:03Speaker 1: the number five rush defense, and those two stats might
- 3:05Speaker 1: be flipped and might be two for rushing, five in total.
- 3:09Speaker 1: So that gets you pretty fired up. You watch Utah's offense.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I've watched like four games over the weekend just to
- 3:14Speaker 1: rewatch the play calling, all those things. Very creative, very exciting.
- 3:18Speaker 1: They love to run the ball, but they're very creative
- 3:20Speaker 1: in their past game as well, which is awesome for
- 3:22Speaker 1: a quarterback. That will help. I pray to God stays
- 3:24Speaker 1: at Michigan. Then they got this DC. Who's gonna be
- 3:27Speaker 1: the DC? J Hill? Who's Jay Hill? That's the DC
- 3:30Speaker 1: for BYU. You're probably wondering, what how are we gonna have?
- 3:34Speaker 1: How are we gonna have a BYU, who's sworn enemy
- 3:37Speaker 1: is Utah. How is the d C from him? From
- 3:39Speaker 1: BYU gonna go with a guy from Utah to Michigan.
- 3:42Speaker 1: J Hill at Weber State went over to Utah for
- 3:46Speaker 1: a few years and apparently has a great relationship with Kyle.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Whittingham saw that to be said, boys, cautiously optimistic if
- 3:53Speaker 1: we could just keep this roster intact, which is a
- 3:56Speaker 1: big if, right And I think it starts at the
- 3:58Speaker 1: top of that quarterback, he stays. I think the rest
- 4:00Speaker 1: of them stay.
- 4:01Speaker 2: We spend a.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Butload of money, we get to middle of January, I
- 4:05Speaker 1: might be called for a national championship. I might, but
- 4:08Speaker 1: right now I'm caustiously optimistic right now because the more
- 4:10Speaker 1: are we in this cat, the more I'm like, we
- 4:12Speaker 1: got a leader of men with integrity. You know what
- 4:14Speaker 1: I'm saying, Gregor can you hear me?
- 4:16Speaker 3: Greg's here? One quick note to selfishly insert Baylor in here.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Utah beat Baylor by completing their first pass of the
- 4:24Speaker 3: game with five minutes left in the fourth quarter, put
- 4:27Speaker 3: at fifty seven on us. They ain't have to throw
- 4:29Speaker 3: the ball. They're big, ugly.
- 4:35Speaker 4: Baylor being Baylor.
- 4:36Speaker 3: But I'm very excited for Michigan. I think Whittingham is
- 4:38Speaker 3: going to be a great fit. And I think all
- 4:42Speaker 3: the talent that he'll be able to bring in with
- 4:44Speaker 3: the Michigan m as well as just like all the
- 4:47Speaker 3: prowess and all of his experience be dangerous.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Can I see one more thing?
- 4:51Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 4:52Speaker 1: You go over Twitter, you go in the search bar,
- 4:54Speaker 1: you type of Michigan football. You see a lot of
- 4:55Speaker 1: opinions being made. You see some USC fan bases that
- 5:00Speaker 1: are like, oh shit, Kyle Woodingham is now in the
- 5:04Speaker 1: Big ten. Like Utah was owning the Pac twelve for
- 5:06Speaker 1: a couple of years and they figured out USC and
- 5:09Speaker 1: Oregon and Washington, all these big schools, and USC was
- 5:12Speaker 1: kind of happy to get away from Kylewoodham allegedly. I
- 5:14Speaker 1: will also say this, Utah fans maybe the nicest group
- 5:18Speaker 1: of people. Great, they've been incredible. But I've been watching,
- 5:21Speaker 1: like the banter culture culture.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I've been in the back, I've been in.
- 5:24Speaker 1: The shadows a little bit, just kind of watching, and
- 5:26Speaker 1: it seems like Utah fans and Michigan fans like at
- 5:28Speaker 1: first wanted to do this, but then they realized, like, hey,
- 5:30Speaker 1: I think I think we're Okay here, I think we're
- 5:32Speaker 1: really Hey, Utah fans are really happy for Michigan fans.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Michigan fans are very like now we're like fans of
- 5:36Speaker 1: Utah for some reason. So it seems like we got
- 5:38Speaker 1: some harmony taking place between Utah and the University of Michigan. Greg,
- 5:41Speaker 1: do you care to comment?
- 5:43Speaker 4: I just can't escape all you Michigan guys. I had
- 5:45Speaker 4: a new Portnoy this morning and listen to him talking
- 5:48Speaker 4: about how the block and is is how you just
- 5:53Speaker 4: get to select what coach you want and you have
- 5:55Speaker 4: your pick of the litter. And I guess you forgot that. Literally,
- 6:00Speaker 4: if this guy didn't just leave Utah because he didn't
- 6:03Speaker 4: want to be part of that private equity recruiting, who
- 6:07Speaker 4: would be the coach?
- 6:08Speaker 1: No, you're right, listen, I's.
- 6:11Speaker 4: He's a great coach. I'm not debating all, no doubt.
- 6:14Speaker 1: We're talking about Dave Portnoy, the attitude.
- 6:16Speaker 4: I can't escape you Michigan guys. But I will say
- 6:20Speaker 4: it was not looking good when it all went down,
- 6:23Speaker 4: and there was a lot of questions of who you
- 6:25Speaker 4: were going to get, and there was rumors about Caitlin
- 6:26Speaker 4: de Boor and Dillingham and all these guys, and then
- 6:29Speaker 4: they're renewing and renewing and taking themselves off the board,
- 6:32Speaker 4: and uh, I don't think it could have worked considering
- 6:36Speaker 4: how bad the situation was, I don't think it could
- 6:39Speaker 4: have worked out any better for Michigan to get him.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Hey, I agree with that. And let me just say
- 6:45Speaker 1: Dave and his attitude about Michigan, I can understand that attitude.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I kind of had it a little bit. These last
- 6:52Speaker 1: couple of years. I've realized I need to fall back
- 6:54Speaker 1: a little bit and just be a true fan of
- 6:55Speaker 1: Michigan and just hope for the best cause this whole
- 6:58Speaker 1: Like you know, blue Chip we're gonna tion which they are,
- 7:00Speaker 1: top five program, which they are, but the Michigan man,
- 7:04Speaker 1: all the things, the arrogance that kind of comes with it.
- 7:06Speaker 1: We've talked about it quite a bit.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Yeah, you've changed it up over there. It's time.
- 7:09Speaker 1: It's time to settle in and just realize, like, other
- 7:12Speaker 1: than twenty one to twenty three, since what I got there,
- 7:17Speaker 1: it's not been great like nine to now. It's not
- 7:21Speaker 1: been like, oh, this is the greatest program in the
- 7:24Speaker 1: entire world. We need to get back to that. I
- 7:26Speaker 1: think Kyle Woodingham is the guy that gets us back
- 7:28Speaker 1: to that.
- 7:28Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, all right, he's I mean,
- 7:30Speaker 4: I don't know a ton about him. Obviously, I know
- 7:32Speaker 4: how good he was and how successful he was at Utah.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Any idea why he was at Utah so long? Like
- 7:39Speaker 4: why didn't he go to.
- 7:41Speaker 2: I was curious about that too, because he did that.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Wasn't he going to Alabama? Why wasn't he going to
- 7:46Speaker 4: Michigan years ago? Like? Right? And again he could have
- 7:50Speaker 4: just been super loyal. And again I don't know a
- 7:52Speaker 4: ton about him.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Yeah, my understanding is he's a million gah.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Winning ten eleven games and having that kind of culture
- 7:59Speaker 2: at Utah is not easy. It is not easy. I
- 8:02Speaker 2: think Michigan did find somebody.
- 8:04Speaker 4: I think it's a home run, and I think from
- 8:05Speaker 4: a stabilizing factor, you can just hear it when he talks,
- 8:09Speaker 4: you can hear it when he commands the room. I
- 8:12Speaker 4: think for everything both football and non football going on
- 8:15Speaker 4: at Michigan over the last couple of years, I think
- 8:17Speaker 4: he checks a lot of boxes. Besides just hey, he's
- 8:20Speaker 4: won a lot of games in the past. I do
- 8:23Speaker 4: think he's going to bring a leadership and a presence
- 8:25Speaker 4: to the program that they need right now.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I agree with that. I know that there's
- 8:29Speaker 1: a lot of transition taking place as far as conferences go,
- 8:31Speaker 1: like when he got in there the Mountain West and
- 8:33Speaker 1: they go to the PAC twelve, and so there was
- 8:34Speaker 1: like a lot of changing taking place. But I know
- 8:36Speaker 1: at one point he was offered the Florida job. He
- 8:39Speaker 1: was offered a multitude of other jobs. When rich Rodriguez
- 8:43Speaker 1: was like the hot new name at West Virginia back
- 8:45Speaker 1: when I was in high school and ended up taking
- 8:47Speaker 1: the Michigan job, I know people were kind of clamoring
- 8:50Speaker 1: for Kyle Woodingham as well. And then when rich Rod left,
- 8:53Speaker 1: if it wasn't when Bratty Hoak was the next coach,
- 8:56Speaker 1: Kyle Woodham's kind of name kind of did come up.
- 8:58Speaker 1: And then when Britty Hook left, it seem like it
- 9:00Speaker 1: was Horball or bust. And even when Harrball left, I
- 9:05Speaker 1: believe Whittingham was a name that also came up again.
- 9:07Speaker 1: But they also they clearly hired internally wish row More,
- 9:10Speaker 1: which ended up not being the move. Yeah, ended up
- 9:14Speaker 1: not being the move there.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I feel like it's as he right, as he like
- 9:17Speaker 2: you know, as they move changed the chapter, turned the
- 9:20Speaker 2: page and everything else. Like say, Whittingham is going to
- 9:23Speaker 2: have success at Michigan, I feel like it'll it'll be
- 9:26Speaker 2: in the spots where you even even the years where
- 9:28Speaker 2: you won the Natty or those times were all that
- 9:31Speaker 2: staff and everything was together and how everything went down.
- 9:33Speaker 2: I feel like it's just gonna be weird to look
- 9:34Speaker 2: back and want to prop those years up.
- 9:38Speaker 1: If you're in Michigan, It'll be interesting to see how
- 9:41Speaker 1: like that.
- 9:41Speaker 2: That's just that's just my own observation listening to winning
- 9:44Speaker 2: Ham come in and just seeing some of the tweets
- 9:46Speaker 2: that were written about him, because he does seem like
- 9:49Speaker 2: a good a good head football.
- 9:50Speaker 1: I saw a Notre Dame, a Notre Dame alum kind
- 9:52Speaker 1: of got on and was like, this is what you're
- 9:54Speaker 1: getting with winning Ham. Integrity, character, You're never gonna have
- 9:57Speaker 1: a scandal. This is a guy that does it the
- 9:58Speaker 1: right way. It's clearly the attitude and the car like
- 10:01Speaker 1: the the man we need at the Helm. After these
- 10:04Speaker 1: past kind of three four years of like you know,
- 10:08Speaker 1: the brand kind of getting hurt from Michigan, myself being like, hey, listen,
- 10:12Speaker 1: I understand that I'm understanding why people dislike Michigan so much.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Now there's a piece of me that loves people hating Michigan.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I think it'll continue to be that way because of
- 10:21Speaker 2: fans like oh dp oh Dave.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's watching Dave.
- 10:25Speaker 2: I'm smiling and laughing at his tweets and also like, God,
- 10:28Speaker 2: I hate this dude.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Dave does go a crazy way about Michigan. I love
- 10:34Speaker 1: I love it. But I'm also I'm a realist enough
- 10:36Speaker 1: to be like, yeah, in twenty years from now, all
- 10:38Speaker 1: about me. Yeah, we won the nat Championship in twenty three.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I'll be very proud of that. I think we had
- 10:41Speaker 1: one of the best rosters ever. But you can't really
- 10:44Speaker 1: ignore all the things that were also taking place.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Now.
- 10:47Speaker 1: As far as the allegations of cheating, I'll fight that
- 10:50Speaker 1: to the end. It seems like the NCAA bent the
- 10:51Speaker 1: knee on that with just a fine Let me ask
- 10:53Speaker 1: you this, Greg, Let's get off of Michigan for a second. Yeah,
- 10:56Speaker 1: your school play against the Ohio State. I think it's
- 10:59Speaker 1: like ten point dogs right now. There's something Miami's getting
- 11:03Speaker 1: against that. I agree, but I want to know. I mean, Homer,
- 11:09Speaker 1: I want to hear what you have to say about
- 11:11Speaker 1: Carson Beck them running the ball and being three zero
- 11:13Speaker 1: at the end of a half or yeah, three zero
- 11:15Speaker 1: at the end a half against.
- 11:16Speaker 4: An m Yeah, that's not going to cut it.
- 11:20Speaker 1: That is not going to cut it.
- 11:21Speaker 4: That offensive output is not going to cut it. As
- 11:25Speaker 4: you guys know, I am a fan of the forward pass.
- 11:27Speaker 4: I do think the pass is a is a big
- 11:30Speaker 4: is a big asset if you're trying to score some points.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Obviously I'm biased. Obviously I'm a huge Miami game, Miami guy.
- 11:37Speaker 4: This is a Miami house. My wife and I like,
- 11:39Speaker 4: our whole family is Miami people. Mario Cristball is one
- 11:44Speaker 4: of my favorite people in the world. He's a friend.
- 11:46Speaker 4: He coached me, recruited me. I met Mario he was
- 11:49Speaker 4: the GA at Miami. So my rising sophomore year, the
- 11:52Speaker 4: summer between my freshman and sophomore year, my dad brought me.
- 11:56Speaker 4: I had an older brother, my older I still have
- 11:58Speaker 4: an older brother. My older brother was being recruited, so
- 12:02Speaker 4: we went down and Butch Davis was the coach. Mario
- 12:06Speaker 4: Cristobal was the offensive GA and like assistant tight ends coach.
- 12:12Speaker 4: So I was fifteen years old met him down there,
- 12:16Speaker 4: developed a relationship. He then went with Chiano to Rutgers.
- 12:18Speaker 4: I'm from Jersey. They recruited the shit out a Rutger
- 12:22Speaker 4: at a New Jersey when they were at Rutgers, so
- 12:23Speaker 4: I've known Mario. He came back my last two years
- 12:27Speaker 4: and coached me. So my point saying this is we
- 12:29Speaker 4: go way back. I love him. He was the guy
- 12:32Speaker 4: for the job. I always said if he couldn't bring
- 12:33Speaker 4: Miami back, nobody could. So like we are riding with
- 12:37Speaker 4: Miami always. Weirdly speaking, my second favorite team. If they're
- 12:43Speaker 4: not playing Miami, I do cheer for Ohio State. I've
- 12:45Speaker 4: gotten to o Ryan Day really well and become friendly
- 12:48Speaker 4: with him and have spent some time at ot Ohio
- 12:50Speaker 4: State the last couple offseasons. So we're riding with Miami.
- 12:53Speaker 4: If they weren't playing Ohio State, we'd ride with Ohio State.
- 12:56Speaker 4: But we are Miami through and through. Could they do it? Yes,
- 13:00Speaker 4: They're gonna have to play much better on offense, especially
- 13:03Speaker 4: in the passing game.
- 13:04Speaker 2: So it's a win win for It's a win win
- 13:06Speaker 2: for Greg.
- 13:06Speaker 1: The Olsen household doesn't care about the outcome of this game.
- 13:09Speaker 2: The household Miami Olson household my but I know Greg
- 13:13Speaker 2: internally like, no, we want, we want Miami to win,
- 13:16Speaker 2: doesn't It sounds like but if you lose, you're gonna
- 13:18Speaker 2: be happy for coach today.
- 13:20Speaker 4: No, I want to see. I have yearned for. So
- 13:23Speaker 4: my my junior and senior year in high school, Miami
- 13:27Speaker 4: played in back to back national championships. So like I
- 13:30Speaker 4: my whole recruiting process, my whole kind of going through
- 13:34Speaker 4: that whole world was like Miami was the program.
- 13:37Speaker 2: This is early two thousands, right.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Yeah, so this was like two thousand and one, two
- 13:42Speaker 4: thousand and two. Yeah, pre the seasons might have been
- 13:44Speaker 4: two thousand, two thousand and one or whatever, the years
- 13:47Speaker 4: of the national title. So we my junior year we
- 13:49Speaker 4: beat Nebraska, and then my senior year we lost in
- 13:52Speaker 4: overtime to Ohio State, and I ended up going to
- 13:55Speaker 4: Notre Dame with my older brother, but then transferred shortly
- 13:58Speaker 4: thereafter to Miami. So like we are Miami people. Met
- 14:02Speaker 4: my wife there, my brother and sister in law went there,
- 14:05Speaker 4: my younger brother went there, Like we are Miami people,
- 14:09Speaker 4: so we are riding with them, but.
- 14:12Speaker 2: You yearn for those, for those moments.
- 14:14Speaker 4: I want to see Miami back on top again.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Right.
- 14:16Speaker 4: We've been saying that you is back for fifteen years. Yeah,
- 14:19Speaker 4: it'd be nice to actually be able to say it.
- 14:23Speaker 2: I'm with you too, because anytime, like anytime like a
- 14:26Speaker 2: documentary comes out or anything about Miami, something about the
- 14:29Speaker 2: full white, like the white face mass the orange and
- 14:33Speaker 2: green like I remember my first game on PlayStation was
- 14:38Speaker 2: one of those years when Miami's coming off a national championship,
- 14:40Speaker 2: and the first game that I played was a Miami
- 14:42Speaker 2: Florida State game where you could see the glare off
- 14:45Speaker 2: the helmet for the first time in a video game,
- 14:48Speaker 2: and you thought it was the most realistic thing you'd
- 14:49Speaker 2: ever seen in your life. So I'm with you. There
- 14:51Speaker 2: is a there's that that fantasy of the Miami logo
- 14:55Speaker 2: and everything coming back. I just don't think that they'll
- 14:57Speaker 2: have enough to take down state.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Especially because Ohio State's coming.
- 15:02Speaker 4: They play the game. They play the game, baby, they
- 15:04Speaker 4: play the game. Coming on this argument with my kid,
- 15:06Speaker 4: you brought up the white helmets. The other day, we
- 15:08Speaker 4: were getting ready to watch the A and M game,
- 15:11Speaker 4: and my my oldest son, he's like, man, I hope
- 15:13Speaker 4: they go all black and the black helmets and I'm
- 15:16Speaker 4: sitting there and I'm just like, how dare you? Yeah,
- 15:19Speaker 4: the Miami white helmet, especially when we went all white,
- 15:24Speaker 4: white helmet, white cleats, white top, like that is just
- 15:28Speaker 4: an icon.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Yeah, the Miami white helmet with the running back face mask,
- 15:33Speaker 2: the little two bar.
- 15:35Speaker 4: Those legendary Miami games, those National title games, those Hall
- 15:39Speaker 4: of Fame players. Yeah, they all had the white helmet
- 15:42Speaker 4: with the U on the side, like that was the helmet. Yeah, man,
- 15:45Speaker 4: I still got mine right here.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Hold on, yeah, show it off. Man with the dark visor.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Boy he's got two Emmys in the back, but he
- 15:52Speaker 1: can't display his helmet.
- 15:54Speaker 2: What'd you ask, Mitch?
- 15:56Speaker 4: The one you want? All? You want to see this
- 16:01Speaker 4: guy lined up over the top of you on third
- 16:04Speaker 4: and seven when you know you got me man coverage
- 16:06Speaker 4: And I'm just.
- 16:07Speaker 2: You're just gonna do Yeah, you're gonna do something on
- 16:09Speaker 2: the sticks. You're probably gonna try and lean into my
- 16:11Speaker 2: body inside, go up and hook it up around around
- 16:16Speaker 2: the sticks.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Look at that.
- 16:17Speaker 4: You A lot of scuff on this, A lot of scuff, Yeah,
- 16:20Speaker 4: a lot of scuff. How's this side look?
- 16:22Speaker 1: I can't say not so bad, not not as not
- 16:24Speaker 1: as scuff side hit.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a helmet that's seeing you know several sea guys.
- 16:30Speaker 4: I show you the best part of this? Can I
- 16:31Speaker 4: show you the best part of this? Do you remember
- 16:33Speaker 4: when our helmets look like that on the exact? When
- 16:38Speaker 4: did we all not die? No?
- 16:41Speaker 2: I think we slowly are. There's just you know, science
- 16:43Speaker 2: got to continue to come.
- 16:44Speaker 1: That's all human beanks, that's all human beanks. We were fine,
- 16:47Speaker 1: We're gonna be my.
- 16:48Speaker 4: High school helmet. I don't I really don't know how
- 16:51Speaker 4: we didn't die.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Yeah, bro, how hard it is on the inside.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and you really got like if it got cold
- 16:57Speaker 1: out and you'd put it on, it's like I need fifteen.
- 17:00Speaker 1: And sometimes I would just leave my helmet on for
- 17:02Speaker 1: the entirety of the practice and do the water ball.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I wouldn't take it off just so it would.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Be that running back three bread in the Miami helmet.
- 17:10Speaker 4: That is.
- 17:13Speaker 1: That extra two inches at the botto of the face mask.
- 17:16Speaker 2: All them decals, would you get the decals for all the.
- 17:20Speaker 4: Stickers killing people?
- 17:23Speaker 1: Those are just bodies?
- 17:24Speaker 2: You know? His dad His dad was the head coach,
- 17:26Speaker 2: so he probably made up a bunch of stickers for him. Yeah,
- 17:28Speaker 2: look that is brutal. You had the blue lining boys.
- 17:38Speaker 2: I love our show. I love our show right now,
- 17:40Speaker 2: just showing off the old look face. Look at all
- 17:46Speaker 2: these scratches.
- 17:47Speaker 1: The most of the scratches on the crown of the he.
- 17:49Speaker 4: Went down here.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a brutal face mask. The one, the one
- 17:52Speaker 2: in Miami was the the one, especially as a batter
- 17:56Speaker 2: if you got that three bar one.
- 17:57Speaker 4: My first year playing at Miami, my red shirt freshman year,
- 18:00Speaker 4: I wore that face mask. I have pictures of myself
- 18:04Speaker 4: playing in college with the two bar dion but down
- 18:07Speaker 4: to here so bad.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Gotta protect my neck, gotta protect my throat.
- 18:12Speaker 1: How much of the players kill you for that before
- 18:13Speaker 1: you were like, I got to change the face mask?
- 18:15Speaker 4: Oh, I think I think at the time, I think
- 18:17Speaker 4: we all thought it was cool. I don't know, I
- 18:21Speaker 4: don't know. I really look back, and I'm like, questionable decisions.
- 18:25Speaker 1: No doubt. You see, Like even like in the nineties,
- 18:28Speaker 1: the giant shoulder pads and the cowboy collar. My junior
- 18:31Speaker 1: of high school, I had the butterfly collar. I had
- 18:34Speaker 1: no neck issues. I just wanted to look bigger. I
- 18:36Speaker 1: was just trying to get after it. No, no, none, My.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Shoulder pads in high school were this big.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it was about it was about the.
- 18:47Speaker 4: Arms were like super skinny, sticking out the bottom and
- 18:50Speaker 4: back then. I don't know about you guys, but when
- 18:51Speaker 4: I played are well like later in my in my
- 18:55Speaker 4: high school, but like early on, our sleeves were like loose,
- 18:57Speaker 4: you know. Yeah, so we would twist them and then
- 19:00Speaker 4: tape them and then you like rolled the tape up
- 19:03Speaker 4: to make them tight. That was before they had like elastic.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Yeah, so you had like these.
- 19:07Speaker 4: I still have skinny arms, but like these little skinny
- 19:10Speaker 4: bitch arms sticking out the bottom of these huge shoulder pads.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Looking like straws coming out of a bottom.
- 19:15Speaker 1: No doubt, it is the funniest look in the world
- 19:18Speaker 1: to just see giants shoulder pads and little sticks coming
- 19:20Speaker 1: out of there.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I mean, think about you. You think of an image
- 19:22Speaker 2: of a Miami player. It's like Ray Lewis when he
- 19:24Speaker 2: had those massive pads. The jersey was like up to
- 19:26Speaker 2: his above his belly, but massive helmet on.
- 19:30Speaker 4: I never got into the crop. That was never my
- 19:32Speaker 4: body type.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Always I would always look at some of my other
- 19:37Speaker 1: offensive linement brothre and when they would go crop top
- 19:39Speaker 1: and I'm like, the confidence on these guys, just let
- 19:41Speaker 1: that thing hang out. I wish I was secure in
- 19:43Speaker 1: my body at the time, because I think the crop
- 19:46Speaker 1: top look goes hard, goes hard.
- 19:48Speaker 4: Yeah, if you look like some of those guys.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I kind of I think the big boys doing it too.
- 19:53Speaker 4: I don't mind.
- 19:53Speaker 1: I'm like, hey, the big boys.
- 19:55Speaker 4: So I was like in the middle right, Like I
- 19:57Speaker 4: wasn't like so big that you just like into it.
- 20:00Speaker 4: It's like that guy is awesome. But then obviously I
- 20:02Speaker 4: wasn't like washboard app so I was kind of like
- 20:05Speaker 4: dad Bob.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Bro.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Once the compression shorts got on me and it squeezed
- 20:10Speaker 2: the muffletop a little bit toward it seemed like it
- 20:11Speaker 2: was oozing out like an ice cream cone. Like we're
- 20:14Speaker 2: guys that's seen like, oh, they got some athletic ability
- 20:16Speaker 2: or an athletic build. But if you get seen with
- 20:18Speaker 2: that hanging over, you're kind of like a you're not
- 20:20Speaker 2: leaning in.
- 20:21Speaker 1: What's going on here, dude. I would spend even in
- 20:23Speaker 1: the legally, I would get my compression like shorts and
- 20:26Speaker 1: I would put my feet in it with the waistband
- 20:29Speaker 1: and I would pull it just to try to combat
- 20:32Speaker 1: that the exact thing you're talking about.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Sometimes I would put my compressions over my mouth. I
- 20:38Speaker 2: can't get I can't get caught. You were like you
- 20:42Speaker 2: or you're like kind of a couple of practices and
- 20:46Speaker 2: then I'm just like, I can't get caught doing this. Man,
- 20:48Speaker 2: the boys are gonna clown my eyes.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Dude. But in a game, though, in a game, you
- 20:52Speaker 1: put it up a little higher so it does just
- 20:53Speaker 1: the jersey when it squeezes in, like just form fits
- 20:56Speaker 1: you all the way down. Yeah, because catching that angle, dude, Yeah,
- 21:00Speaker 1: cut in that angle, it's a tough.
- 21:01Speaker 4: It's a tough go, especially like in December. Maybe in
- 21:05Speaker 4: like August training camp you're like I'm pretty good, Like yeah, yep.
- 21:09Speaker 4: Like I would see pictures of myself in August, right
- 21:11Speaker 4: before training camp, and I was like, that's look, it's
- 21:14Speaker 4: pretty good.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:15Speaker 4: December, you're just like eating pizza, holding on for dear life.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Pie.
- 21:21Speaker 1: You're already thinking about this offseason. I'm gonna do X,
- 21:24Speaker 1: Y and Z.
- 21:25Speaker 4: I'm gonna shape it's the divisional round of the playoffs, dude.
- 21:30Speaker 2: No, it's before Christmas. You're just like, I'm gonna do it.
- 21:34Speaker 2: I'm gonna get it done. That is that's every every
- 21:38Speaker 2: white guy, every white guy that plays football, because you.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Yeah, and you have this regiment about you. You're like,
- 21:45Speaker 1: I am this is me the entire year. I'm not
- 21:47Speaker 1: gonna waiver on this. And then week four hits and
- 21:49Speaker 1: you're like, fuck it, dude, pizza had a bad game, Pizza, sushi,
- 21:53Speaker 1: Chinese food with the boy on Mondays.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a comfort, there's a mental comfort to all
- 21:58Speaker 4: of that.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Yeah, you're trying to hit some New Year's right.
- 22:01Speaker 4: The year reminiscing just made my day. So what else
- 22:04Speaker 4: you guys.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Got, Dude, Let's talk about our tweets.
- 22:06Speaker 4: The my tweet So, dude, I land check Twitter. Yeah,
- 22:12Speaker 4: mine mentions I'm getting killed, and I finally scroll up
- 22:17Speaker 4: to the source of it all and both of you
- 22:19Speaker 4: separately tweet me. But Will sends me about momentum. You're
- 22:23Speaker 4: asking me about going for two tailor. I was sitting
- 22:26Speaker 4: on the plane taxing dying dude.
- 22:30Speaker 1: And you know what's crazy too, is it's literally coming down.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I'm like, this is the perfect scenario for us to
- 22:34Speaker 1: talk about tomorrow. And I'm thinking the Bills are going
- 22:36Speaker 1: to get this. They should go for too. I hope
- 22:38Speaker 1: mcdermom does go for two, and then obviously it would happened.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Happened if they just would have kicked the pat after
- 22:43Speaker 1: the first touchdown, it would have been a moot point.
- 22:45Speaker 1: But after the game, all of them are kind of
- 22:48Speaker 1: discussing should you have gone for two? Should you not have?
- 22:50Speaker 1: And everybody who was like, yes, you should have gone
- 22:53Speaker 1: for two all brought up momentum as their key point.
- 22:56Speaker 4: Of course, because they don't know what else to say.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Yeah, because analytics can't measure moments.
- 23:00Speaker 4: And by the way, add more momentum after the back
- 23:04Speaker 4: to back touchdown drives no doubt. If they would have
- 23:07Speaker 4: only gotten more momentum, they would have made the two
- 23:10Speaker 4: point and then.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Kick the extra point, it would have gotten blocked again,
- 23:17Speaker 2: well analytically. Analytically, you sit back and you look at
- 23:21Speaker 2: like here, here's where you know. And by the way,
- 23:24Speaker 2: I'm with you on the go for two. I was
- 23:26Speaker 2: just grinning ear to ear knowing that this game was
- 23:29Speaker 2: going to come down to I wonder if the Bills
- 23:30Speaker 2: are going to go for two. I had my tweet
- 23:33Speaker 2: ready to go and I just held on it. I'm like,
- 23:34Speaker 2: I gotta make sure the Bills don't get the two
- 23:36Speaker 2: point conversion. Yeah for this to work. Now you're learning, Yeah, yeah,
- 23:40Speaker 2: you're learning.
- 23:40Speaker 4: You have to make sure your criticism comes after you
- 23:43Speaker 4: know the results.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Yes, exactly. So I shoot that. I shoot that out there,
- 23:49Speaker 2: But I'm also thinking in my head like, okay, here's
- 23:51Speaker 2: a good analytical question as well, like if you're self
- 23:53Speaker 2: scouting yourself, because you're right though, one touch up before
- 23:56Speaker 2: that extra point gets blocked. So it's like, okay, well,
- 23:59Speaker 2: we're just we're have to go for two because the
- 24:01Speaker 2: extra point got blocked, but we're also going to go
- 24:02Speaker 2: for two because that's what our game plan, our strategy
- 24:04Speaker 2: is gonna be. Anyways, try to win in regulation. But
- 24:07Speaker 2: my question would be when do also analytics within your
- 24:11Speaker 2: own season come into play, because yeah, they got their
- 24:15Speaker 2: extra point block, but what's their percentage on making an
- 24:17Speaker 2: extra point to go into ot versus you are before
- 24:20Speaker 2: this two failed two point conversion. You're one for six
- 24:23Speaker 2: at going for two throughout this year as the Buffalo Bills.
- 24:27Speaker 2: So they missed this one, they're now one for seven
- 24:29Speaker 2: on going for two. So analytically, in general, universally, it's like, hey,
- 24:33Speaker 2: everything screams go for two. But if you're the Bills,
- 24:35Speaker 2: you haven't been successful at all. Really, you've been successful
- 24:38Speaker 2: one time out of six up until that point of
- 24:41Speaker 2: going for two. And then you look at the if
- 24:43Speaker 2: you look at the example last week, which it's like,
- 24:45Speaker 2: why didn't the Bears go for two? They end up
- 24:47Speaker 2: kicking the extra point, going to overtime and winning ot
- 24:50Speaker 2: Bills it felt like they did. Bringing up the word momentum,
- 24:53Speaker 2: had all the momentum because Philadelphia had what twelve yards
- 24:57Speaker 2: passing in the second.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Happen and they had twelve yards total twelve yard.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Total in the second half, Like Philly wasn't doing anything
- 25:03Speaker 2: offensively and they were up thirteen nothing going to that
- 25:05Speaker 2: fourth quarter, and Josh Allen was Josh Allen. Buffalo was
- 25:09Speaker 2: becoming Buffalo. Their offense was becoming that offense, So why
- 25:12Speaker 2: not kick that extra point? Going ot? Like in my
- 25:15Speaker 2: head knowing like confidence level, whise, like, bro, we are
- 25:18Speaker 2: we're taking over this team because they're not moving the
- 25:20Speaker 2: ball at all.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Yes, my confidence. Your confidence was so high, your momentum
- 25:27Speaker 4: was very high. You had just scored back to back touchdowns.
- 25:31Speaker 4: Why did your offense the defense was reeling, The defense
- 25:35Speaker 4: was tired I've heard all these things right for the
- 25:37Speaker 4: whole year, then it's even more reason. If that's the mentality,
- 25:41Speaker 4: then it's even more reason to say, keep my offense
- 25:43Speaker 4: on the field. They couldn't stop us. Put the offense
- 25:47Speaker 4: back on the field, and let's win the game with
- 25:49Speaker 4: my hobbled quarterback who's banged up his foot. Do I
- 25:52Speaker 4: want to play a whole overtime period? And they talk about, well,
- 25:56Speaker 4: just make the extra point and go to overtime. Badgely
- 25:59Speaker 4: was twenty to twenty five on the year an extra points, he's.
- 26:03Speaker 2: But again one for six on two point conversion. So
- 26:05Speaker 2: most of you want to look at.
- 26:07Speaker 4: Who are you gonna bet that's gonna go above their odds?
- 26:10Speaker 4: Badge your third kicker of the year or.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Josh Allen your third kicker of the year.
- 26:16Speaker 4: Okay, well that's our next.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Point, I would go, so are you arguing? Are you
- 26:20Speaker 1: arguing just to argue?
- 26:21Speaker 2: Like I am arguing just to argue, because I do
- 26:24Speaker 2: want to know, like, at what point are you self
- 26:26Speaker 2: scouting enough to be like, all right, I get that
- 26:28Speaker 2: you're rolling the dice go in this direction with going
- 26:30Speaker 2: for two, but again you have failed to convert two
- 26:34Speaker 2: point conversion. You know, five out of the six times
- 26:37Speaker 2: that you've already done it now six out of the seven.
- 26:39Speaker 4: Yeah, And that's a valid argument. And obviously that's something
- 26:43Speaker 4: that each team has to take into consideration as they
- 26:45Speaker 4: look at their own two point plays, their play calls,
- 26:48Speaker 4: their strategy. So that's certainly a fair and valid argument.
- 26:53Speaker 4: I think where the where the argument universally, I'm not
- 26:55Speaker 4: saying your argument, I'm just saying the universal argument on
- 26:59Speaker 4: all of this is everyone just assumes you make the
- 27:03Speaker 4: extra point. And I just watched you miss an extra
- 27:06Speaker 4: point by yeah yeah, yeah. So like there's always this
- 27:10Speaker 4: assumption that if you go for two, you're gonna miss,
- 27:13Speaker 4: and it's so stupid. All you had to do was
- 27:16Speaker 4: line up in the driving rain and just make a
- 27:18Speaker 4: simple extra point that oh yeah, on your first touchdown
- 27:21Speaker 4: I watched get blocked. So like there's this assumption that
- 27:25Speaker 4: what happened on the previous two point play matters, but
- 27:27Speaker 4: what happened on the previous point after try is somehow irrelevant.
- 27:33Speaker 4: I asked you this question the night before Texans Chargers.
- 27:40Speaker 4: Dick or the kicker has had an amazing season. Amazing
- 27:44Speaker 4: So they are down ten, they go down and they score.
- 27:48Speaker 4: The Chargers are down ten, they go down and score
- 27:50Speaker 4: a touchdown. So we're watching this game at our hotel
- 27:53Speaker 4: in Indie because that game was a big factor in
- 27:56Speaker 4: how meaningful our game was yesterday. Yeah, the Bolts needed
- 28:00Speaker 4: the Chargers to come back and win for the Colts
- 28:03Speaker 4: to still be playing for something against Jacksonville yesterday. So selfishly,
- 28:07Speaker 4: we're like, we love this game to mean something to Indy.
- 28:10Speaker 4: So we're watching intently. I say all that long story short.
- 28:14Speaker 4: They score a touchdown. So now it's a four point game.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Okay, how much times left?
- 28:20Speaker 4: Uh that's a good question, is it like under it's
- 28:24Speaker 4: it's it's minutes to go into thirty.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Okay, okay, okay, that's that's good enough.
- 28:29Speaker 4: Uh hold on, he's.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Got to know he's got now you know Gray, he's
- 28:33Speaker 1: just he's a detailed oriented guy.
- 28:35Speaker 4: Well it matters. It's a great question.
- 28:38Speaker 1: It's enough. And you're like, yeah, that's not that's.
- 28:40Speaker 2: That's that's a conversation.
- 28:42Speaker 4: Touchdown.
- 28:42Speaker 2: That's all I need to know. I need to know
- 28:44Speaker 2: exactly seven.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Okay, all right, so lots of time? How many time outs?
- 28:50Speaker 4: I think they had all of them?
- 28:51Speaker 1: Okay, So and all the time in the world.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Analytically, this is a time where you scored and go
- 28:56Speaker 2: for two, correct.
- 28:57Speaker 4: I'm asked, Okay, so I'm just painting this scenarios. This
- 29:01Speaker 4: is a very So you talk about like where these
- 29:03Speaker 4: teams are on the cutting edge, nobody's quite ready. Like
- 29:06Speaker 4: the down by fourteen thing, You're starting to see more
- 29:08Speaker 4: teams after the first touchdown. Not everybody, but a lot
- 29:11Speaker 4: of teams are going for two the first time to
- 29:13Speaker 4: try to make it six. The fifteen to one. We
- 29:15Speaker 4: talked about fourth down. This was the fourth down conversation
- 29:19Speaker 4: like five years ago. So there's phases to all of this.
- 29:22Speaker 4: I don't know if teams are ready to like regularly
- 29:24Speaker 4: adopt down ten to go for two to make a
- 29:26Speaker 4: field goal win it. But let's just talk about what happened.
- 29:30Speaker 4: So they try to just take the foregone conclusion of
- 29:33Speaker 4: making this extra point. This sun is blaring on my face.
- 29:39Speaker 4: I'm gonna shed the b lines hold on. So they
- 29:41Speaker 4: take the day, Just take the points, make it a
- 29:43Speaker 4: three point It's a field goal game, right, That's what
- 29:45Speaker 4: everyone's saying. Making a field goal game. Don't make it
- 29:47Speaker 4: a touchdown game. He misses the extra point, so they
- 29:51Speaker 4: now are down four and they need a touchdown to win.
- 29:55Speaker 4: No longer a field goal could tie. If they would
- 29:58Speaker 4: have went for two and failed, they still would have
- 30:02Speaker 4: been down four. What is the difference at the end
- 30:06Speaker 4: of the game for Harball the press conference, dicker, the
- 30:11Speaker 4: kicker needs to be better, he's been awesome all year,
- 30:13Speaker 4: and he missed the kick. You go for two. The
- 30:15Speaker 4: question is, coach, you are there now. It didn't matter.
- 30:18Speaker 4: They never got the ball back. But if Justin Herbert
- 30:22Speaker 4: got that ball down four, that conversation. If you need
- 30:26Speaker 4: a touchdown and you get goal to go and you
- 30:28Speaker 4: come up short, it's like, if only you were down three,
- 30:31Speaker 4: you would have kicked the field goal and tied the game. Well,
- 30:35Speaker 4: you missed the extra point. But now the coach doesn't
- 30:37Speaker 4: have to justify. The coach just says, my kicker stinks.
- 30:40Speaker 4: I'm a great coach.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Yeah. Uh, listener, you've really gotten me on the down
- 30:47Speaker 1: fourteen late. You score the first touchdown, you go for two.
- 30:50Speaker 1: I'm understanding that level of aggression, but ten points, I'm
- 30:55Speaker 1: not seeing where it's go for two in the situation.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Yes, I'm saying that's so. Yeah, I guess this is
- 31:02Speaker 2: where that phase is still that gap started close.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Because I guess I'm looking at it like, you clearly
- 31:06Speaker 1: just kick the extra point.
- 31:08Speaker 2: I'm starting I'm starting to naturally feel like when you're
- 31:10Speaker 2: down ten, that's all I was asking the time. If
- 31:12Speaker 2: you're within like what six seven minutes, I'm starting to yeah, fuck,
- 31:19Speaker 2: if you're around that timeframe. I am now starting to
- 31:22Speaker 2: naturally think if you're down ten and you score, you
- 31:24Speaker 2: now go for two. So I'm starting to get into
- 31:26Speaker 2: the that you know, New world where you know Greg
- 31:29Speaker 2: and they're they're teaching you all these this analytical side
- 31:32Speaker 2: of football on what you would do. So Yeah, hearing that,
- 31:34Speaker 2: I'm thinking, oh, damn, that's a bad Yeah, that's a
- 31:36Speaker 2: bad move on the coaching side to not go for
- 31:40Speaker 2: two in that situation.
- 31:41Speaker 4: Yeah. And I'm not saying that it's a no brainer.
- 31:43Speaker 4: I'm not saying that if it was me that I
- 31:45Speaker 4: feel so strongly that I would do it every time.
- 31:48Speaker 4: I'm not suggesting that. All I'm suggesting is we have
- 31:52Speaker 4: programmed that the anti analytics, the anti two crowd, has
- 31:56Speaker 4: built their argument from point after tries or one one
- 32:00Speaker 4: hundred percent successful all of the time, and two point
- 32:03Speaker 4: plays are failures, Like we have completely taken both ends
- 32:08Speaker 4: in the extremes where no one ever misses a pat
- 32:11Speaker 4: and everyone always fails a two point play, and it's
- 32:14Speaker 4: just obviously not true.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it's obviously not true. But still I feel like
- 32:18Speaker 1: the percentages are way different. I think we talked about
- 32:20Speaker 1: two point conversions being what fifty percent close, say the
- 32:25Speaker 1: mid forties point after try is I gotta believe in
- 32:29Speaker 1: the eighties.
- 32:30Speaker 4: Yeah, Oh of course it's Oh I bet you, it's higher,
- 32:33Speaker 4: I bet you.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just being conservative. So some guy on the
- 32:35Speaker 1: internet right now is all like, actually it's this, you know.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Yeah, so Taylor, he's battling an imaginary hater.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Yeah, just in case, you know, this is called covering.
- 32:45Speaker 1: It's like Will holding his tweet back for a couple
- 32:47Speaker 1: extra minutes. You got to do that.
- 32:48Speaker 4: Two point tries are hard. That's why you typically want
- 32:51Speaker 4: multiple cracks at him. Yeah, so like it just that's
- 32:55Speaker 4: the whole idea again, the down fourteen, the down fifteen.
- 32:58Speaker 4: You want multiple cracks, so you want multiple opportunities to
- 33:02Speaker 4: get him because going one for one is hard. Going
- 33:07Speaker 4: one for one is less than a coin flip.
- 33:09Speaker 1: How many two point plays when you were playing, did
- 33:12Speaker 1: you guys practice one? Maybe two?
- 33:16Speaker 4: We on our call sheet probably inside the five those
- 33:19Speaker 4: were probably your you know you're inside the five. We
- 33:23Speaker 4: probably had five total. Yeah, and a couple of passes,
- 33:31Speaker 4: which I guess was like a separate Like that was
- 33:33Speaker 4: like Jumbo twenty three big bodies and everyone had like
- 33:38Speaker 4: a million different tight end play actions and faked. We
- 33:41Speaker 4: did a ship ton of it with Cam. Our goal
- 33:45Speaker 4: line stuff was actually really good. Obviously he was a
- 33:47Speaker 4: huge factor in that because he was such a threat
- 33:50Speaker 4: whether he was in gun, whether he's under center. So
- 33:52Speaker 4: like our goal line stuff was pretty extensive just because
- 33:55Speaker 4: of him. But uh yeah, teams have way more now
- 33:59Speaker 4: than they used to.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Yeah, let me ask you this, Greg, what would the conversation,
- 34:06Speaker 2: so if we're talking about the extremes on the analytics
- 34:08Speaker 2: side of like you're not wrong trying to kick the
- 34:10Speaker 2: extra point, but you know that one right there, you
- 34:13Speaker 2: miss YadA, YadA, YadA, what would be your conversation with
- 34:18Speaker 2: coach Harball or a head coach on what they're thinking
- 34:21Speaker 2: is or what they should challenge themselves to interrogate about
- 34:24Speaker 2: themselves on why you don't go for two in that situation.
- 34:28Speaker 4: Like if I was trying to convince some wife, right, Like.
- 34:30Speaker 2: If you're sitting there and you're in a room with
- 34:31Speaker 2: these head coaches on thinking about this, this level of
- 34:33Speaker 2: thinking with the two point conversion, because a lot of
- 34:35Speaker 2: it does come back to this press or like, hey,
- 34:38Speaker 2: what is what are we avoiding by not trying to
- 34:41Speaker 2: go for two here? You know what I'm saying?
- 34:43Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, I think the first the first thing I
- 34:48Speaker 4: would try to just present is how much of your
- 34:52Speaker 4: decision making is effected on your desire or lack there
- 34:56Speaker 4: of answering these questions like how much does that matter
- 35:00Speaker 4: to you? How much does public perception, how much does criticism,
- 35:04Speaker 4: how much does the fallback matter? And I think it's
- 35:08Speaker 4: a fair I don't blame coaches who do value it.
- 35:11Speaker 4: I think there's certain coaches that have built up more
- 35:13Speaker 4: credits and more stock that those postgame press conferences are
- 35:17Speaker 4: a non factor. Right. Their jobs not on the line,
- 35:20Speaker 4: they're not under constant heat. It's a very different experience
- 35:25Speaker 4: in different markets for different coaches, based on market size, media,
- 35:30Speaker 4: how much they've won or lost. Right, Like certain coaches
- 35:33Speaker 4: are teflon, You're not going to get up there and
- 35:34Speaker 4: question decisions made by you know. I mean, I guess
- 35:38Speaker 4: we saw Andy Reid get questioned this year, but that
- 35:40Speaker 4: seems kind of stupid. So I do think there are
- 35:43Speaker 4: varying degrees of your ability to stand at the podium
- 35:47Speaker 4: and say nothing any of you say matter. My job
- 35:50Speaker 4: is safe and I'll do it again. Right, It's the
- 35:52Speaker 4: Dan Campbell effect. So you first got to just decide
- 35:55Speaker 4: how much is your decision making being influenced by any
- 35:58Speaker 4: of those emotions. These are emotional decisions, and you value
- 36:02Speaker 4: that as a person. The conversation should end, right. There's
- 36:05Speaker 4: no convincing anyone that what emotions they they feel aren't real.
- 36:11Speaker 4: I'm never gonna convince anyone otherwise. Right. If that's just
- 36:14Speaker 4: how you feel, you might be wrong. But I'm never
- 36:17Speaker 4: gonna win that bat. An emotional battle is never gonna
- 36:21Speaker 4: be won if that's not the limiting factor, and they
- 36:24Speaker 4: are open minded to just talking about Okay, what does
- 36:28Speaker 4: improve our chances? It comes down to trying to win
- 36:30Speaker 4: the game when you get an opportunity in regulation. Now,
- 36:35Speaker 4: regular season, postseason has changed over time has changed a
- 36:39Speaker 4: little bit, so the odds are a little bit more
- 36:41Speaker 4: in your favor with both teams getting a possession, But
- 36:44Speaker 4: by and large, I would try to operate as often
- 36:47Speaker 4: as possible. If I get an opportunity to win the
- 36:50Speaker 4: game in regulation, I'm gonna do it. And those would
- 36:56Speaker 4: probably be like my two main north stars. And then
- 36:59Speaker 4: there's a lot of nuance in situation and strengths of
- 37:02Speaker 4: your team and quarterback style and offensive play caller. Like
- 37:06Speaker 4: then there's a lot of like team nuance that each
- 37:08Speaker 4: team has to make their own decision based, but like
- 37:11Speaker 4: those two guiding principles would be where I would start personally.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Yeah, the thing I love about this conversation is that
- 37:18Speaker 1: you're exactly the last thing you said is like, it's
- 37:22Speaker 1: not like a black and white type of thing. It
- 37:24Speaker 1: depends on what personnel you have, what quarterback though, and
- 37:26Speaker 1: that that's what makes it so much more fun to
- 37:28Speaker 1: look into and see, like, hey, what coach is willing
- 37:31Speaker 1: to slap their balls on the table and be like
- 37:33Speaker 1: this is what is what we're gonna do we get
- 37:34Speaker 1: in a week out regardless of circumstance. While you were talking,
- 37:37Speaker 1: I was thinking about the fifteen points being down, fifteen
- 37:41Speaker 1: go you go for two in the first touchdown. You
- 37:43Speaker 1: don't get it the second time, you have to use
- 37:47Speaker 1: you know what, I've worked through it in my head.
- 37:49Speaker 1: You have to go for two in the second one
- 37:50Speaker 1: to even tie it. Never mind, I'm back, I'm back.
- 37:54Speaker 4: Let me again not to rehash all of that, because if.
- 37:57Speaker 2: You don't get the first one, you're down nine. Right,
- 38:02Speaker 2: So that's where him trying to wrap our heads around
- 38:06Speaker 2: going for two down fifteen. That's where I'm kind That's
- 38:09Speaker 2: why I get a little bit more resistant.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:12Speaker 4: Again, it comes it comes down to take the emotion
- 38:15Speaker 4: out of it. From a practical standpoint. Would you rather
- 38:17Speaker 4: be down nine with three and a half minutes or
- 38:20Speaker 4: would you rather be down two with fifteen seconds?
- 38:24Speaker 2: No?
- 38:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I understand that that's it.
- 38:26Speaker 4: From a non emotional not the how hard I'm going
- 38:29Speaker 4: to play on defense and the defense is so more
- 38:32Speaker 4: motivated down eight that they are nine, and the guys
- 38:36Speaker 4: on the sideliner slapping each other on the backs, like,
- 38:38Speaker 4: eliminate all of that. Yeah, just from a practical sense.
- 38:42Speaker 4: The argument against what the Phi, what Philly did, and
- 38:45Speaker 4: what everyone came after me for supporting, was they assumed
- 38:51Speaker 4: that you missed the first one and you're down nine,
- 38:53Speaker 4: and you're an idiot be down eight and it's a
- 38:56Speaker 4: one score game and take it to overtime. But and
- 39:00Speaker 4: I'm down nine is because I failed on the two
- 39:02Speaker 4: point conversion. So why would being down eight? Why should
- 39:05Speaker 4: I assume I get the two point conversion?
- 39:07Speaker 2: Defense? Have it both ways defensif it's a little bit
- 39:11Speaker 2: more retired, a little bit more defeated, like fuck, they're
- 39:13Speaker 2: probably gonna get that. It's a mom first one.
- 39:15Speaker 1: I started this conversation. I apologize.
- 39:18Speaker 4: It's emotion, and that's why I said, if emotion's gonna
- 39:22Speaker 4: run it, you're never gonna win the battle. And that's okay.
- 39:24Speaker 4: I'm not saying those feelings aren't real. I'm just saying
- 39:27Speaker 4: they're not impactful. And if they are impactful, you should
- 39:32Speaker 4: fire your defense. You should cut everyone. And Will Compton
- 39:36Speaker 4: is not gonna run through his a gap on a
- 39:38Speaker 4: run blitz hard down nine than he would down eight.
- 39:42Speaker 4: That he shouldn't be your mic backer.
- 39:44Speaker 2: The reason I'm leavin is I right before he started
- 39:47Speaker 2: to go, uh, your feelings like, it's fair to feel
- 39:51Speaker 2: what you say, but they're not impactful. Before he started
- 39:53Speaker 2: to say that, a switch fliped in my mind to
- 39:56Speaker 2: where he's now talking to his wife. I'm thinking, I
- 39:57Speaker 2: wonder how this would go through. I'm yeah, yeah, there's
- 40:03Speaker 2: is not impacuation.
- 40:07Speaker 1: I gotta drop that on tailing one day just to
- 40:09Speaker 1: see how it goes hit you boys, up, don't do it.
- 40:12Speaker 1: It's not that it's not the move, all right, end up.

- 40:41Speaker 1: prescription roast sparks are right for you. That's r O
- 40:44Speaker 1: dot Co slash Busting for fifteen dollars off your first order.
- 40:48Speaker 1: Let's get back to the episode with Greg Olsen. Did
- 40:51Speaker 1: you do you get a chance to check out the
- 40:52Speaker 1: Steelers and the Browns?
- 40:54Speaker 4: I didn't that game was going on right when my
- 40:56Speaker 4: game was gone lost in the.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Browns bro you know, need you don't really need to
- 41:01Speaker 1: know the game. But Miles Garrett obviously one sack away
- 41:03Speaker 1: from holding the record. From a solo standpoint after the game,
- 41:06Speaker 1: he said, they were worried about keeping me away from
- 41:08Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers to uh, more worried about that than getting
- 41:11Speaker 1: to win. That's what That's why we came back to
- 41:13Speaker 1: bite them. Have you ever been in a situation where,
- 41:16Speaker 1: like in your in your career where someone was chasing
- 41:18Speaker 1: a record and what the if there was a meeting
- 41:21Speaker 1: room about that, because it seemed like with the Steelers,
- 41:23Speaker 1: and I think there was like conversations taking place like
- 41:25Speaker 1: if he beats you whatever, grab his face mask, do
- 41:27Speaker 1: not let him get it. And then in the game
- 41:30Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter they had multiple three and outs.
- 41:32Speaker 1: But there are a few times that Miles Geartt's like
- 41:34Speaker 1: basically getting there, Aaron Rodgers like fuck this and just
- 41:36Speaker 1: dumps it off to the side like they were. They
- 41:39Speaker 1: seem very obvious they're more worried about Miles than they were, Hey,
- 41:43Speaker 1: let's go try to win this game.
- 41:45Speaker 4: You know. It kind of reminds me I don't know.
- 41:47Speaker 4: Did you guys play high school basketball?
- 41:49Speaker 2: No, No, one year in eighth grade fourth So.
- 41:51Speaker 4: High school basketball, we you know, we were like an
- 41:54Speaker 4: average you know, we were fine, but we would go
- 41:56Speaker 4: play some of these teams that were real good and
- 41:59Speaker 4: they were just better than us. So this is what
- 42:01Speaker 4: kind of reminds me, like before the game, like you
- 42:03Speaker 4: and your buddies, you'd sit there and you'd be like,
- 42:05Speaker 4: we could lose by fifty. You cannot let anyone dunk.
- 42:09Speaker 4: Like we're follon guys, We're flipping them upside down, We're
- 42:12Speaker 4: sending them into the wall, intentional fouls, text, whatever it takes.
- 42:17Speaker 4: Nobody dunks. That's kind of like what this reminds me of. Right,
- 42:22Speaker 4: you said we can concede the game, We're not gonna
- 42:24Speaker 4: give up. We're gonna throw the ball in the ground,
- 42:26Speaker 4: We're gonna spike it. Do not let Miles Garrett live
- 42:30Speaker 4: in infamy. That this that Aaron Rodgers is Brett Favre
- 42:34Speaker 4: right where he's the quarterback we see sacked, you know,
- 42:37Speaker 4: when Strahan breaks the record. So like that's where my
- 42:41Speaker 4: mind goes on all this. Whether that's real or not,
- 42:44Speaker 4: I don't know. I guess you'd have to ask Rogers
- 42:47Speaker 4: and those guys. But I don't blame them, Like I
- 42:51Speaker 4: didn't want teams to break records against us. You know,
- 42:54Speaker 4: those years that you were losing. If you played a
- 42:56Speaker 4: divisional rival or somebody that you could knock out of
- 42:59Speaker 4: the playoffs and you already out, You're like, well, if
- 43:01Speaker 4: I'm gonna be home, I'm gonna ruin their season. So
- 43:03Speaker 4: I just think that's kind of the NFL. I don't
- 43:05Speaker 4: know if anyone in the NFL wants to see in
- 43:08Speaker 4: their moment in their game, their team get like better
- 43:12Speaker 4: one upped. So if that was their mindset and they
- 43:15Speaker 4: didn't want him to break the record, then I have
- 43:18Speaker 4: no problems with it.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Yeah, like I got there's there's part of me that
- 43:21Speaker 2: thinks and again I'm just assuming, but Aaron's playing is
- 43:25Speaker 2: like he's trying to play to win. But in the
- 43:27Speaker 2: back of Aaron's mind, he's like, this is not another
- 43:30Speaker 2: thing where I'm gonna follow suit. Yeah, far I'm not
- 43:32Speaker 2: gonna take over Brett Farva.
- 43:33Speaker 1: Oh you think you think history was in the back
- 43:35Speaker 1: of his mind.
- 43:36Speaker 2: As a competitor, Like why wouldn't he think about that?
- 43:39Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, like all the things where
- 43:40Speaker 2: he's kind of like he's been the next Brett Fava
- 43:43Speaker 2: Green Bay, like going and playing for different.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Teams, like the same different team.
- 43:47Speaker 2: The same different team, like all of these things, and
- 43:50Speaker 2: just the relationship they seem to have had with everything
- 43:53Speaker 2: that's come out. I'm just sure, like as a competitor,
- 43:55Speaker 2: that that was one thousand percent probably in his mind
- 43:58Speaker 2: to some extent, you know what i mean, Like I'm
- 44:00Speaker 2: not gonna be I'm not taking over Brett Farm's clip
- 44:02Speaker 2: for like giving up the record seat.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it's so surprising to me. Like we had Dean
- 44:06Speaker 1: Dawkins on last week. He was gonna he was playing
- 44:09Speaker 1: the Browns and in that game, it's like, hey, he's coming,
- 44:12Speaker 1: Like you don't make sure you're not the guy, and
- 44:15Speaker 1: it ends up not being the guy. Now the Steelers
- 44:17Speaker 1: game has happened. That was only one game left for
- 44:18Speaker 1: him to get this. I just keep picturing in my
- 44:21Speaker 1: head like it's the fourth quarter, there's a couple of
- 44:23Speaker 1: minutes left and who I don't know who the Brown's playing.
- 44:26Speaker 2: I think it's the Bengals. So it's a game that
- 44:27Speaker 2: means nothing.
- 44:29Speaker 1: Game means nothing.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Everybody right now this week is planning for Hey, where
- 44:32Speaker 2: are we going in the office?
- 44:33Speaker 1: Right And so does Joe Burrow. He'll probably get sacked
- 44:36Speaker 1: anyway based on the way his his his career is
- 44:39Speaker 1: gone and getting sacked. But does Joe Burrow bend the
- 44:42Speaker 1: knee and kind of give Miles Garrett one to take
- 44:45Speaker 1: home the all time record because Miles when he when
- 44:47Speaker 1: he was getting close, there's like three shot games and
- 44:50Speaker 1: it was like he had like twenty five tape to
- 44:51Speaker 1: his wrist. He's thinking beyond the sack record, like he's like,
- 44:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna handle this no problem now. There's gotta be
- 44:58Speaker 1: a level of like I might never get here again.
- 45:00Speaker 1: I might never get to the opportunity where I can
- 45:02Speaker 1: break the record. Panic is starting to set in, probably
- 45:05Speaker 1: on in his camp, like I've got to get this
- 45:07Speaker 1: fucking record now, and if I don't, like I'll probably
- 45:09Speaker 1: never sniff this again.
- 45:11Speaker 2: And the Bengals like, even though you say Joe b
- 45:13Speaker 2: is he gonna be like, I don't think the division
- 45:15Speaker 2: rival to me. If you're the Bengals, You're there is
- 45:17Speaker 2: no goal for this game. The entire goal should be
- 45:20Speaker 2: Miles Garrett is not getting this record on us.
- 45:23Speaker 1: But Joe, Joey b has kind of got that. You
- 45:25Speaker 1: can see his press conferences with the Bengals. He's a adult,
- 45:28Speaker 1: you know, he doesn't seem like he's happy. He's saying
- 45:31Speaker 1: very vague things. I could see Joe pulling a Aaron Rodgers,
- 45:36Speaker 1: which not Aaron Rodgers. Brett far where Brett was like
- 45:38Speaker 1: it was kind of known that, Like Brett kind of
- 45:40Speaker 1: gave it to my action fell down, Yeah, play action
- 45:43Speaker 1: fell down. Let him have it? Like, can we see
- 45:45Speaker 1: Joe Burrow be like, let me get this guy one
- 45:49Speaker 1: or two? You know, set the tone. Who's gonna set it?
- 45:51Speaker 1: I'll set it for the boy, cause this is true
- 45:54Speaker 1: history that we're looking at here. It's like, Yo, it's crazy.
- 45:57Speaker 2: I like thinking that this game now has true meaning,
- 46:00Speaker 2: room meaning, because.
- 46:01Speaker 4: Dud it's a great game for males. Garrett to try
- 46:05Speaker 4: to break it right, because the offensive lines poured. You know,
- 46:08Speaker 4: historically the last couple of years they've been poor, and
- 46:10Speaker 4: they're gonna throw the ship out of the ball. Yeah, right,
- 46:12Speaker 4: So you're gonna get a ton of pass attempts. You're
- 46:14Speaker 4: gonna get a ton of passing downs if for whatever
- 46:18Speaker 4: reason they don't give up a sack to Miles Garrett.
- 46:20Speaker 4: Then we have to look back on the last couple
- 46:22Speaker 4: of years and be like, what how come you when
- 46:25Speaker 4: the game meant nothing? You guys protected the ship out
- 46:28Speaker 4: of Joe Burrow. Years you've seen him just get his
- 46:31Speaker 4: lock knocked off?
- 46:33Speaker 2: What's going on here?
- 46:34Speaker 4: Like all of a sudden, you guys needed this record
- 46:37Speaker 4: to like motivate yourselves that point.
- 46:39Speaker 2: Hey, but Greg, if you're if you're a tight end
- 46:41Speaker 2: on the Bengals, like what would be your goal going
- 46:45Speaker 2: into the game, Like are you Are you somebody that
- 46:47Speaker 2: would as a tight end? Be like, hey, coach, like Chip,
- 46:49Speaker 2: I'll fucking block all game. We're not letting Miles Garrett
- 46:52Speaker 2: get this sack.
- 46:54Speaker 4: I mean I did my fair share of chips. I
- 46:58Speaker 4: had my fair share of that guy didn't see me
- 47:00Speaker 4: coming ear hole shot. I didn't love that, Like I
- 47:03Speaker 4: didn't love the idea of like ear holding a guy
- 47:06Speaker 4: who wasn't looking at me. I mean I did it.
- 47:08Speaker 4: It wasn't something I got great pride out of. I
- 47:10Speaker 4: didn't feel like, oh, I'm a badass because I just
- 47:12Speaker 4: ear hold this guy who didn't see me. I want
- 47:15Speaker 4: to run down the field, like my life, my whole
- 47:18Speaker 4: career was like running down the field far Like I
- 47:21Speaker 4: watch a lot of these offenses now far like it's
- 47:27Speaker 4: naked flat, it's naked drag, it's naked over, And I'm
- 47:30Speaker 4: looking at myself like, oh my god, I would have
- 47:32Speaker 4: caught three thousand balls and these offenses like we were vertical,
- 47:37Speaker 4: we were going downfield. We were middle benders, we were
- 47:39Speaker 4: deep overs. We were twenty two inside numbers of the
- 47:42Speaker 4: hash and two yards inside the hash, Like I couldn't
- 47:46Speaker 4: afford to chip anyone unless you just ran a flat
- 47:49Speaker 4: or a check, And I had no interest in any
- 47:51Speaker 4: of that. Like I wanted downfield ball in the air,
- 47:54Speaker 4: air yards. That was just my game. So I would
- 47:57Speaker 4: had a hard time playing in an offense with a
- 47:59Speaker 4: whole game. I just edged and chipped. We did it,
- 48:02Speaker 4: but it was not something that I wanted to make
- 48:04Speaker 4: a living doing because it just really it cuts down
- 48:08Speaker 4: on the types of route you can run.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you you.
- 48:11Speaker 2: I'm wondering if you're ready to just sacrifice running routes
- 48:14Speaker 2: that way.
- 48:16Speaker 4: He's trying to hit eighty catches for everywhere.
- 48:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true, Like, are you aware it's record?
- 48:23Speaker 4: I mean, what about my incentive? About eighty catches. I know,
- 48:26Speaker 4: fifty grand Do we care about that?
- 48:28Speaker 2: Greg?
- 48:28Speaker 1: If you spent if you spent your life worrying about
- 48:31Speaker 1: check chipping people and not moving the ball down the field,
- 48:34Speaker 1: you're standing up to close your blinds when the sun's
- 48:36Speaker 1: in your face.
- 48:36Speaker 4: Correct hitting a button?
- 48:38Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, Like that's a little bit better. Now it
- 48:40Speaker 1: is a lot better. Yeah.
- 48:42Speaker 4: Here's what I will say though, And Taylor, you'll appreciate
- 48:44Speaker 4: this and every tackle I ever played with, Like even
- 48:48Speaker 4: when we got like new guys like Michael or came
- 48:50Speaker 4: and Khalil's brother Matt came, So we had a couple
- 48:53Speaker 4: like tackles join us in our run in Carolina and
- 48:57Speaker 4: they all love this. So pat on the back to me.
- 48:59Speaker 4: I I played ninety percent of the game in a
- 49:01Speaker 4: two point stance, but attached to the tackle. We had
- 49:05Speaker 4: kind of formed an eleven personnel like in passing situations.
- 49:10Speaker 4: But I would My rule was I never let the
- 49:13Speaker 4: defensive end ever line up outside of me. So I
- 49:16Speaker 4: was never gonna take my split my distance from you.
- 49:20Speaker 4: If I was lined up on the left side and
- 49:21Speaker 4: I was trying to gauge my distance from you as
- 49:23Speaker 4: the left tackle, would I would say, I'm always going
- 49:26Speaker 4: to capture the defensive end. I didn't want to stand
- 49:28Speaker 4: so close to you. I'm three yards from two yards
- 49:31Speaker 4: from you, and then Miles Garrett's a wide nine technique
- 49:34Speaker 4: outside me. I go run my route and you sit.
- 49:38Speaker 4: Miles Garrett is like six yards from you, running at
- 49:41Speaker 4: your face.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Yeah, that's terrifying.
- 49:42Speaker 4: That's terrifying. But how often you see tight ends. They
- 49:45Speaker 4: come up, they set their feet, and then the defensive
- 49:49Speaker 4: end picks where he needs to go. I would come
- 49:52Speaker 4: real wide out of the huddle, wait for the defensive
- 49:55Speaker 4: end to pick his landmark on you, and then I
- 49:58Speaker 4: would reduce my split. And I'll never forget. I was
- 50:00Speaker 4: playing in Detroit one year. Kyle Van den.
- 50:03Speaker 1: Bosch, remember him, Oh yeah, Yeah.
- 50:05Speaker 4: He'd wear those lens, uh like contact lenses and ship
- 50:11Speaker 4: where like he didn't have a pupil. Like this guy
- 50:13Speaker 4: was a maniac. And I'm messing with him in my
- 50:15Speaker 4: split and I'm not letting him take these like wide
- 50:18Speaker 4: ghost nine splits on pass downs. And he's losing his
- 50:21Speaker 4: ship and he's trying to move and I just keep
- 50:23Speaker 4: moving with him, just trying to capture him on the tackle.
- 50:26Speaker 4: And he looks at me and he motherfucks me and
- 50:30Speaker 4: screams in my face about moving my split. I almost
- 50:32Speaker 4: shit my pants. He was like a demon. I was like, dude,
- 50:37Speaker 4: you're scariest shit and you'll probably kill me on the
- 50:39Speaker 4: next run play. But I am not going to let
- 50:41Speaker 4: you line up on our left tackle nine yards off
- 50:44Speaker 4: of his ankle.
- 50:45Speaker 1: That is uh, well, that is big time and you
- 50:47Speaker 1: should have so you pat yourself on the back for that.
- 50:49Speaker 4: There was no the.
- 50:50Speaker 2: Left tackle needs to be saying did he send you
- 50:52Speaker 2: a Christmas gift this year?
- 50:53Speaker 4: Every year?
- 50:54Speaker 2: Every year?
- 50:55Speaker 1: I love it, dude, I love it because we would
- 50:56Speaker 1: we would go through we would play like big time,
- 50:59Speaker 1: big time guys like do uh Suggs or Miller or whoever,
- 51:02Speaker 1: and I be like, hey, we're gonna chip. We would
- 51:04Speaker 1: go through indye periods of like, hey, these are how
- 51:06Speaker 1: the tackles like to get like to get chipped. And
- 51:08Speaker 1: there was nothing worse to me than when the tight
- 51:11Speaker 1: end would line up tight to me and then the
- 51:13Speaker 1: defensive end would line up in a wide nine on
- 51:15Speaker 1: the outside of him, and the chip would be, oh,
- 51:18Speaker 1: he beat me off the ball. Let me push him
- 51:20Speaker 1: in the back so he gets a more of a jumpstart,
- 51:22Speaker 1: and I literally I would just tell you, guys, I'm like, bro,
- 51:25Speaker 1: if I don't need you to do much, just get
- 51:27Speaker 1: in front of him for a second and bring him
- 51:29Speaker 1: to me. That's all I want you to do.
- 51:30Speaker 4: Bring him to You got to contain him. You gotta
- 51:32Speaker 4: capture him and push him.
- 51:33Speaker 1: In, funnel him in. But when you are behind him
- 51:35Speaker 1: and you're pushing his ass so he gets farther up
- 51:38Speaker 1: the field, I'm in panic mode.
- 51:40Speaker 4: Now.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Now I'm in i have to get the hell out
- 51:42Speaker 1: of whatever situation I am. I don't know where I
- 51:45Speaker 1: am as if as far as pocket integrity or nothing,
- 51:48Speaker 1: And it's just it's absolute hell. It's the worst feeling
- 51:50Speaker 1: in the world.
- 51:50Speaker 4: When the tight end the lines outside of him, I
- 51:53Speaker 4: could chip him, Yeah, I could like crack him on
- 51:56Speaker 4: some sort of like pin and pull outside run play.
- 51:59Speaker 4: What I really liked about it that twice a game
- 52:01Speaker 4: that they asked me to pass protect, I liked being
- 52:05Speaker 4: on the outside and I would just power jump the
- 52:07Speaker 4: shit out of him outside in and I would just
- 52:09Speaker 4: earhole them, snatch them at the line of scrimmage. I
- 52:12Speaker 4: didn't want to set as a why I didn't want
- 52:14Speaker 4: to set as a nine technique myself. If you didn't
- 52:17Speaker 4: want to do it, I sure shit didn't want to
- 52:18Speaker 4: do it. It just made the light the game so
- 52:21Speaker 4: much easier when there was the tight end and the
- 52:23Speaker 4: tackle and the defensive end lined up in between them.
- 52:26Speaker 4: That's the idea. I just don't know why more people
- 52:29Speaker 4: don't do it.
- 52:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and I don't understand tight end's past setting one.
- 52:33Speaker 1: It always always looks terrible. They don't know what they're doing.
- 52:35Speaker 1: Put there exactly, get on them right away. I'll come
- 52:38Speaker 1: help you in a minute, because you know, it's like
- 52:40Speaker 1: play action. I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go into the
- 52:42Speaker 1: big gap. I'm gonna check my linebacker, and the first
- 52:44Speaker 1: thing I'm doing is gonna check you. Just lose outside.
- 52:46Speaker 1: I'll meet you between him and the quarterback.
- 52:48Speaker 4: Dude, I would. I mean, I'm sure it happened a
- 52:50Speaker 4: handful of times over the years. But like if I
- 52:52Speaker 4: got trapped on a pass set, we used to call
- 52:55Speaker 4: it Randy Louie, where like the tight end had the end,
- 52:58Speaker 4: the line would slide away and then the back was
- 53:01Speaker 4: like my help. But like if the backskuy came then
- 53:04Speaker 4: I was one on one. If I had that guy
- 53:08Speaker 4: outside of me, and I knew it was like a
- 53:10Speaker 4: traditional kickset wide punch. I was like, all right, man,
- 53:13Speaker 4: like this is gonna be a fucking battle. Yeah, But
- 53:16Speaker 4: if I had that guy inside, it didn't matter who
- 53:18Speaker 4: he was. If I knew I could block him down
- 53:21Speaker 4: from the outside and then just wrestle him even if
- 53:24Speaker 4: he knocked me back. He had to knock me back
- 53:26Speaker 4: from the line of scrimmage.
- 53:27Speaker 1: I was fine, Yeah, that's diaslow death. Like you under
- 53:31Speaker 1: stand in the process, you understand, I love her all.
- 53:33Speaker 1: Talking about our fears, you blocking one on one, me
- 53:36Speaker 1: getting a wide nines ass pushed, you playing man coverage.
- 53:40Speaker 2: It's all hell anytime of back motions out of the backfield,
- 53:42Speaker 2: we can't check, yeah to rat or replace with the
- 53:46Speaker 2: safety blitzing to where I could take the blitz and
- 53:49Speaker 2: he can go cover the bag. Yeah, I was in
- 53:50Speaker 2: a mental health.
- 53:51Speaker 4: Didn't have a segment where we each get to air
- 53:54Speaker 4: our like worst nightmare that we had to like hide
- 53:57Speaker 4: for twenty years when we played and these things suck.
- 54:01Speaker 4: We just had to be like, dude, I'm good at everything, right,
- 54:03Speaker 4: nothing I can't do, And now we have like a
- 54:06Speaker 4: free it's like a free get out of jail card.
- 54:08Speaker 4: You get like one segment of Monday where you can
- 54:12Speaker 4: admit all the shit you weren't good at and that
- 54:14Speaker 4: you were scared to death.
- 54:15Speaker 5: Of doing exactly due because it's so funny how that
- 54:20Speaker 5: the plays we're talking about probably happened two or three
- 54:22Speaker 5: times a game, but we would spend most of the
- 54:24Speaker 5: game thinking, when are these two or three times.
- 54:26Speaker 2: Most of the going to happen week? Most of the week,
- 54:30Speaker 2: what situation could this?
- 54:31Speaker 1: And it's like, yeah, I feel good about this, this
- 54:32Speaker 1: and this, but if this comes up, I swear to God.
- 54:35Speaker 1: And then you'd be like the second quarter being like,
- 54:36Speaker 1: when's it gonna happen? When you're in the middle, you
- 54:38Speaker 1: just finished the player, You're like, I hope it's not
- 54:40Speaker 1: this next play coming up.
- 54:41Speaker 4: You know, it's like a third down. You're like, it's
- 54:43Speaker 4: third and six. You're looking at the sideline. You're like,
- 54:45Speaker 4: don't call it, Yeah, don't, don't.
- 54:47Speaker 1: Don't on a route.
- 54:49Speaker 4: I'm doing good down the field.
- 54:50Speaker 1: I would tell my coaches. I'd be like, hey, listen,
- 54:53Speaker 1: I don't care about like a lot of chips. I
- 54:55Speaker 1: just need one early in the game. I need one
- 54:58Speaker 1: like legit chip them early in the game that way
- 55:00Speaker 1: he's thinking about it. Anytime the tight end would come
- 55:02Speaker 1: in and then give me one around the third quarter,
- 55:04Speaker 1: give me two, and I'm happy because it makes him think.
- 55:07Speaker 1: And that's all I need is for them just to
- 55:09Speaker 1: think a little bit. Then I'll be all right.
- 55:11Speaker 4: But it was a terrifying my career. At the end
- 55:13Speaker 4: of my career, when you know you're old and you
- 55:16Speaker 4: just say whatever the fuck you want to say and
- 55:18Speaker 4: you don't care anymore. Yeah, we would be in like
- 55:20Speaker 4: install meeting on third down and if there was like
- 55:23Speaker 4: more than one play where the tight end had to
- 55:26Speaker 4: stay in. And remember, like back early in our careers,
- 55:29Speaker 4: we used to call it like Mustang protection, where like
- 55:31Speaker 4: the tight end and the running back would stand next
- 55:33Speaker 4: to the quarterback and it was like full seven man
- 55:36Speaker 4: protection and anyway like that, or when you had to
- 55:39Speaker 4: block the d end, if they had more than like
- 55:42Speaker 4: one or two of those, it'd be like, hey, anybody
- 55:43Speaker 4: have any questions. I'm like, I got a question and
- 55:45Speaker 4: be like, all right, what elson I'd be like, so
- 55:48Speaker 4: this twenty five million dollar an end that all that
- 55:51Speaker 4: week I've heard we got a chip and we got
- 55:53Speaker 4: to engin. We got to give body presents to our
- 55:55Speaker 4: fifteen million dollar tackles. I'm gonna block him on third
- 55:59Speaker 4: and eight by myself while they all slide to nobody.
- 56:03Speaker 4: I just want to make sure I have the protection
- 56:06Speaker 4: understood correctly, because for the last four days I've been
- 56:10Speaker 4: beat down my face about chip Edge, don't get wide
- 56:13Speaker 4: with your split running backs, give body presents. But now
- 56:16Speaker 4: on third and eight, it's like, don't worry. Olsen's got
- 56:19Speaker 4: von Miller and everyone else. You just go slide and
- 56:22Speaker 4: just do this whole slide thing where nobody touches anyone.
- 56:26Speaker 4: That's what we're gonna call on third and eight, you know,
- 56:29Speaker 4: And everyone would laugh, But I was like, I'm not
- 56:31Speaker 4: even joking.
- 56:32Speaker 2: Is so stupid, right, right, You're not joking? Yes, I
- 56:35Speaker 2: feel you there, like when I would have to eventually
- 56:38Speaker 2: soil the DN because they wouldn't want to bam in
- 56:40Speaker 2: the red zone and I'll just back so just again,
- 56:43Speaker 2: just we want to get this clear what we're worried
- 56:46Speaker 2: about in the red zone inside, let's say the fifteen
- 56:49Speaker 2: we're worried about this choice route from darren Sprolls. You're
- 56:52Speaker 2: telling me I can't BAM when I know this option
- 56:55Speaker 2: route's coming because he's gonna be in an obvious chowel alignment.
- 56:58Speaker 2: I can't bam the end. You want me to cover
- 57:01Speaker 2: him one on one. I just want to be clear
- 57:03Speaker 2: because I've asked if I could BAM all week and
- 57:04Speaker 2: nobody's really told me anything.
- 57:05Speaker 4: What the fuck does BAM mean?
- 57:07Speaker 2: Bam is when the end will come out and hit
- 57:09Speaker 2: or bam running like yeah, yeah, yeah, he'll push it
- 57:13Speaker 2: so defensively ship. Yeah, the def yeah, basically a defense ship.
- 57:17Speaker 4: I hadn't heard that.
- 57:18Speaker 2: So that way the running back once they get hit,
- 57:20Speaker 2: they have to just get in their route asat versus.
- 57:22Speaker 4: Coming free release on one in space. And then when
- 57:27Speaker 4: he scores, you'll get coached up about where your alignment
- 57:30Speaker 4: was and where your leverage was, and well.
- 57:32Speaker 2: You got to close the distance, stay inside out. You
- 57:35Speaker 2: gotta get your hands on him. At some point. It's
- 57:36Speaker 2: Darren fucking Sprolls. Yeah, but the ends will get mad
- 57:39Speaker 2: because the ends you got to take them out of
- 57:41Speaker 2: their pass rush because like you want me to bam
- 57:43Speaker 2: Sprolls when you expect to cover I'm like, it's Darren Sprolls.
- 57:46Speaker 2: I would love if I could just get a little
- 57:48Speaker 2: some kind of chip on this man before we run.
- 57:51Speaker 2: They're highly targeted their favorite route, which is a choice
- 57:53Speaker 2: route in the red zone. Yeah.
- 57:54Speaker 4: Meanwhile, the offensive quality control guys stood up there on
- 57:59Speaker 4: Wednesday on out team and said, hey, guys, darren Sprolls,
- 58:03Speaker 4: we got us. I could have told you it was
- 58:04Speaker 4: a touchdown four days exactly.
- 58:08Speaker 1: Well, I just imagine Will and the defensive man coming
- 58:10Speaker 1: up to Will and be like, Yo, what do you
- 58:11Speaker 1: making me? Bamed, He's like, justin, I'd rather not be
- 58:13Speaker 1: in that play. I'd rather not be in.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Unfortunately I'm in, so I need you to trim Murphy.
- 58:21Speaker 4: I'd rather get a fucking calf cramp and come out
- 58:23Speaker 4: of the game. I'm not thrilled about it either.
- 58:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, Oh dude, Yeah, that's that's I'm glad
- 58:29Speaker 1: we got to work through that.
- 58:31Speaker 2: We got a playoff game with your Carolina Panthers Tampa
- 58:34Speaker 2: Bay Buccaneers. Wow, that's a game that means something winning
- 58:38Speaker 2: in Both of you guys lost over the weekend. I
- 58:41Speaker 2: do like the Panthers this week. Like, if I'm leaning
- 58:43Speaker 2: on anything, it's gonna be the defense of the Panthers.
- 58:46Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a winning in there is this like weird
- 58:51Speaker 4: not a weird scenario, but there is this like far
- 58:53Speaker 4: fetched scenario that if somehow the Falcons beat the Rams tonight,
- 58:58Speaker 4: then even if Tampa eats Carolina next week, if the
- 59:03Speaker 4: Falcons also win and they played New Orleans, that it
- 59:07Speaker 4: would be a three way tie. And then Carolina even
- 59:10Speaker 4: if they lost, they would be an eight to nine winner.
- 59:14Speaker 2: So they'd still get in.
- 59:16Speaker 4: So they'd still get in. So that's that's assumed that
- 59:20Speaker 4: the Falcon that the Falcons don't beat the Rams tonight,
- 59:23Speaker 4: and yeah.
- 59:24Speaker 2: To win.
- 59:24Speaker 4: And in the way, Carolina is very weird, like one
- 59:27Speaker 4: week good, one week off. They've kind of won, lost
- 59:30Speaker 4: one loss. They kind of bounce back and forth weekly
- 59:32Speaker 4: over the last like eight weeks. Tampa Bay is really struggling.
- 59:36Speaker 4: They just cannot find their way this back half the
- 59:39Speaker 4: season after starting so strong, may have just not been
- 59:44Speaker 4: nearly as effective, not nearly as efficient, especially on offense.
- 59:47Speaker 4: So yeah, I mean, I'd like to see Carolina make
- 59:50Speaker 4: the playoffs. I think that'd be really cool. We haven't
- 59:52Speaker 4: been since twenty seventeen, so it's been a while, so
- 59:57Speaker 4: I think it's fascinating that after all this it's gonna
- 59:59Speaker 4: come down to one game Week eighteen, most likely winner
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: take all. But yeah, I think Carolina's got a great shot.
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: They seem to bounce back, they seem to lose after
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: they win, and win after they lose. So from a
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: pattern standpoint, Week eighteen looks good.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I love I love the pattern talk. My kids
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: are all about patterns right now. I think you're right.
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: Like the run game of the Panthers, I think Bryce
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: has actually looked better this year. He said, he makes
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: some really good throws and it's like the inconsistency. But
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: at the same time, you look at Tampa Bay and
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: just riddled with injuries. Something's wrong with Baker. It feels
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: like he looks like a guy that's just like willing
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: himself to play every single week when he needs to
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: be on a stretcher or getting some rehab. So yeah,
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: I like the Panthers as well. I like the Panders.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: I think it doesn't really matter. I think both whichever
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: team goes in the playoffs, it's a very short playoff run,
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: but making the playoffs still says a lot about your franchise.
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: Yeah, you get into the get in the dance. Yeah,
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: you get the dance.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Anything can happen.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: How do you see the uh, how do you see
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: the one seed sticking out? Because I want to get
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: to where we're talking who we think can make the
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: run to the Super Bowl Big games. Next week you'll
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: have what Seattle and the Niners, which you'll have which
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: has massive implace. Yeah.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: The winner of that game has the one seedon. Yeah,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: which is wild.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: In the shadows all you're winning and taking care of this. Yeah,
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: what you cut?
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: You gotta love that about them, man. Yeah, like Shanahan incredible? Well,
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: who who you got in that game?
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: I think Shanahan. I said this yesterday in our game
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: we had Indianapolis and Jacksonville and we were talking about
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: the job Liam Cohen's done. And you know, they got
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: one pro bowler and it's the long snapper, and what
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: a job he's done. They won their twelve game and
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: all that, and I made the comment that it's probably
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: the most packed coach of the year, you know, candidacy pool,
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: candidate pool in years. I mean you start talking about
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: like the one year turnarounds, Ben Johnson, Vrabel and and
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: Liam Cohen, then you start talking about the job Mike
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: McDonald's done in his second year in Seattle, getting that
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: right back on track. Are really the best team in
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: the league, you know, give or take. And then and
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: then with Shanahan, you know, a guy that we've seen
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: playing Super Bowl is a guy that's name has been
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: in the mix of, you know, one of the top
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: coaches in the league for a long time. So maybe
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: we don't appreciate because we just assume the forty nine
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: ers should always be good. But I mean, you look
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: at what that team has gone through, right They lost
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: Brock Purdy for stretches of game, They lose Fred Warner done,
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: Bosa done, Miss Kittle. I want to say last night
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: was Kittle's like fourth or fifth missed game they've played
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: without Chunks, you know, Ayuk just disappeared off the face
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: of the earth. Like they have had some really interesting
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: roster situations, and now here they are in a week eighteen,
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: win and not only win your division, but get the
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: first round by as the one seed and play and
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: have home field advantage through the Super Bowl potentially. So
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: Shanahan's in that mix. I think it's remarkable that game
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: last night was incredible score and forty plus. I just
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: I worry defensively in the playoffs. We've talked about that
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: on here a lot. I think defense matters a lot
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: more come postseason than it does in the regular season.
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: The teams that make the playoff are disproportionately offensively driven.
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: There's a few anomalies, you know, Texans. In the past,
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: there's been some teams that have been road on their defense,
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: but it's mostly good teams that can score points. So
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: now it's like, Okay, who can actually stop somebody who
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: can actually play competent defense, run game. Some of the
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: things that don't have as big of an impact over
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: the course of a long season do matter in a
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: one and done scenario in the playoffs. So I'd still
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: go with Seattle because I think Seattle's defense is as good,
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: if not better than any I think offensively, they're still
- 1:03:33Speaker 4: hit or miss, They're still not exactly sure. They got
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: to get that pass game back to what it was.
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: But San Francisco's offense is probably the best offense of
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: the last three or four weeks in the league. The
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: defense scares me.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I brought Pertty has been playing girl. The zero
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: pass rushed by the defense right now. On Fando Sportsbook,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan is plus one thirty. He's the favorite right now.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: He's the favorite.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: He's the favor for Coach of the year fall by pipe.
- 1:03:55Speaker 4: So you would have to bet one thirty to win
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: one hundred.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: No, if you bet one hundred, win one hundred and thirty.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: So yeah, so he gets plus odds. These are futures,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: that's usually they're always gonna sit in the plus. So
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: Shanahan's plus one thirty. Mike Vrabels next at one forty,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: plus one forty, then as a big drop off of
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: Mike McDonald at plus five hundred, and then Liam colem
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: Is at fifteen hundred from there, which I thought Liam
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: would be a little higher than that.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: It's dude, it's honestly just because of the market that
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: they're in, Like it's the Jacksonville Jaguars, Like nobody Rames won.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: Coach of the Year in twenty one or something like
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: that with the with the Titans in there.
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: Yeah, probably Verah one coach of the year's Ran Rivera
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: one Coach of the Year twice with us, and yeah,
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: we're small market.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: It's interesting. I mean, Liam com dude, it.
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: Is jating odds.
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: Let me ask you this because again I'm not overly
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: familiar with how the whole thing works, So like is
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: there an element to that where name recognition. So for
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: these odds makers, the Shanahans of the world are gonna
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: just get more bets placed on them because there's more
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: name recognition as opposed to Liam Cohen. So by they
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: got to reduce the odds of a guy like Shanahan
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: because he's gonna get so much action. Is that part
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: of it?
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like I want to say, Vegas, they just
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: they just they understand the pulse of what's going to
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: happen or what's going on at this current moment. So
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: for example, like the moment Fernando Mendoza, so it was
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: very close between Diego Pavia and Fernando Mendoza. And this
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: is just one example of like a futures bet. They
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: were both neck and neck going.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: Into Diego was a favorite over that's right, do.
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: Yeah, Diego was a favorite over Mendoza. And the talk
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: that week was if for Nanda Mendoza has a good
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: game against Ohio State, like a good quarterback, got stats,
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: got touchdowns, all this stuff, like Fernana Mendoza could edge
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: out and could beat Diego Pavia. Well for Nanda Mendoz
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: only through what one touchdown? Yeah yeah, big there down
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: in the game, but nothing. That's like he should have
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: ran away with this. But the moment that game ended,
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: Banana Mendoza became minus three thousand in the sportsbook to
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: win the Heisman. So it's like they ultimately knew who
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: was gonna win a Heisman immediately after that game concluded.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: Yeah you know what I mean to where you could argue,
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: you could talk about the Diego all you wanted, but
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: he wasn't even close once that game ended. As far
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: as the sports the sports book and the markets and
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: the betting odds and everything else. So what Fando's saying
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: this is Shanahan's become a real favorite. They don't know
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: who's gonna win out of Rabel and Shanahan. That's why
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: they're only ten off. Who was third on the list.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: Mike McDonald, but he was plus five hundred.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: Mike McDonald plus five hundred and then Liam Cohen at
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: plus fifteen hundred. Is just in the world of us
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: arguing or debating about it, it seems bizarre because Liam
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Cohen has just as good of a resume, if not
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: better than everybody else, Like I know, there's a lot
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: of great candidate's, Like even Ben Johnson, he wasn't even
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: in the top four. He's probably sitting it. He's probably
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: sitting at fifth in the odds. And I get that
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: they just lost in Shanahan that kind of edges him
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: out there. But as far as how close the race
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: could be, it seems like it's gonna come down to
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: Rabel or Shanahan. If Shanahan wins this next week against
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: getting the one seed over Seattle, it seems like Shanahan's
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: gonna get it. If the Niners lose and Vrabel they beat,
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: who do they play? The Dolphins?
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: Yes, I have that game, Patriots Dolphins.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: Yeah, so Patriots Dolphins. If Patriots win and Niners lose,
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: like Vable, it seems like he's going to be the
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: likely one to win Coach of the Year. That's how
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: the odds, that's how the markets kind of have it
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: set up.
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: The next two after that was Ben Jonson at plus
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: two thousand and then Sean Payton at plus six thousand.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: So yeah, so right now to two man race. It's
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: two man race.
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: I think they're taking into account all the momentum that
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: Jacksonville has though, yeah, won games in a row.
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: Dude, I'm with you that that.
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I know that.
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: I know you're joking. But to me, that's why it's
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: also so bizarre because what Cohen, Trevor Lawrence, he's been
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: playing really well, like what Jacksonville has done this year,
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: compared to what they go last year four and thirteen. Yeah, yep,
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: four and thirteen to where they're now now they're only
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: a four lost team. What they've done, it seems wild
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: that it's the gap is so far with Liam Cohen
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: being in this coach.
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: On their whole roster.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's crazy you brought up as a long
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: snapper because I know the Patriots had three or four
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: Pro Bowlers. I mean, Drake May was one of the quarterback. Yeah,
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: one of us who is a serious the MVP of
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: the league, arguably MVP, but he was at an MVP
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: caliber quarterback at the beginning of the year. In August September,
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: the conversation revolving around Drake May was one more year
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: and he's going to be a guy in this league.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: And then all of a sudden, after they started with
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: a one to two early in the year, it became like, oh,
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: Drake may is the guy, which would tell you that
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: a lot of coaching took place. Guys if you look
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: at their roster and I'm not very familiar with Jaguars roster,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: but the Patriots roster isn't a roster. It's like Ravens, Eagles,
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: like even the Bengals, like they're not a roster that
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: you're like you can really hang on, be like, this
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: is a contending team, yet I think who the Broncos play,
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: because if the Broncos lose and they.
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: Win, Broncos played the Chargers.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: So Broncos loose, are the Chargers and the Patriots beat Miami,
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: they have the one seed, right, So that's who you
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: look at to be like, oh, I can see why
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: Vrabel should be it should be a coach of the
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: Year guy. I think Liam Comb should be in that
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: one fifty one sixty range. If he's a third, put
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: him at plus one sixty because those guys do have
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: a hell of a resume to say I should be
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: coach of the year. Those three especially, I would throw
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: Ben Johnson in there as well. It's incredible, what I mean.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: Caleb Williams is a similar conversation too, Like this year,
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: it's like he's all these bad habits, they're kind of
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: masking him and stuff like that, but the kid is
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: just he truly has gotten better every single week. So
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: it's it's gonna be awesome to see.
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: And then again, I'm not taking anything away from very books,
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: I think sure, yeah, I do think there is an
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: element also for some of those guys where they're calling
- 1:09:28Speaker 4: the plays, they're coaching the quarterback, they're like, and again
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: I'm not saying Rabel's not doing a ton because he
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: obviously has won in multiple spots. Again, I'm not making
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: this an anti Vrabel thing at all, but like last night,
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: when you're watching San Francisco fight that game out, you're
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: watching Ben Johnson and Kyle Shanahan duel it out where
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: the only reason San Francisco won is they scored forty
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: plus games, forty plus points in regulation. Yeah, it is impressive,
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: Like that was too high level coaches who are also
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: calling the plays, who are also coaching the quarterback, who
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: are also like, that's there's a that's a big, huge impact.
- 1:10:08Speaker 4: I mean, that's why those coaches are the ones everybody's
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: trying to go find the advantage New England's going to have.
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: And this is the brilliant I give a lot of
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: credit to Vrabel for how he did this is if
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: you're not going to call the offensive plays as a
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: head coach, the next best option is to hire a
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: formally fired offensive head coach that likely is not going
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: to be stolen away from you anytime soon. Like, I
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: don't know if Josh for as good of a job
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: as Josh McDaniels has done with Drake May. You don't
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: ever hear his name as the next head coach. You
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: hear Clint Kubiak, and you hear all these because we've
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: seen Josh daniels be a head coach and now maybe
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: in his next time he would do a great job.
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: Who knows, But like, there's an advantage to hire former
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: fired head coaches as your coordinator on the other side
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: of the ball, because you're not fearful you're going to
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: lose them. Yeah, so that's the next best scenario if
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: that play caller is your head coach. Ala Shanahan, McVeigh,
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: Ben Johnson, et cetera. So it's a good setup what
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: New England has.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: The Shanahan things so interesting to me because it reminds
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: me of like what I'm assuming it was like for
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: when people were watching Michael Jordan or Peyton Manning, Tom Brady,
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: like these great consistent players that were so amazing Lebron
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: James as well, where it's like they're doing incredible things,
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: but eventually the public's like, Okay, he does incredible things,
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: and you kind of like take away from how how
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: successful they've been and it's like, oh, that's just them,
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: so you don't hold the weight of them being successful
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: as much as you would. Rabel who comes in the
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: first year at the Patriots, Ben Johnson, it's like, oh,
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan, Yeah he's good, he's had a great year,
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: a lot of injuries, but people aren't really realizing what
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: he's done for the franchise, right.
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: I think they're solely starting to come about it now
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: now him be becoming the favorite. It's almost like yeah,
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: if they win, like he'll get it, yeah and.
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: He should vote.
- 1:11:53Speaker 6: It.
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: Remind me when this like when do all these.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: Awards, so the playoffs they say, do not get but
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: I think the voting ends after the divisional round. You
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: might be right, it's sometime in the playoffs before the
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: Super Bowl, that the vote happens, PA playoffs can become
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: a massive fact, a massive factor.
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: Yeah, it'll be I'm excited to see what the Patriots
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: do in the playoffs because again, if you go by
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: strength of schedule, they have the statistically the worst strength
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: of schedule. Who's this the Patriots.
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it'll be interesting to see them in the playoffs
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: as well.
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: I have them for the first time this week, so
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: I'm actually is to dive in, Drake study watch them
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: because I've only seen them from afar. I've seen highlights,
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: I've watched clips, but I haven't actually spent any time
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: watching them. So I got them Miami. I got Patriots
- 1:12:40Speaker 4: Miami in Foxborough this weekend. So I'm actually curious if
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: my opinions of them change better or worse at the
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: end of the week than where I am now before.
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: I haven't really had a chance to dive in yet.
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: I think they'll I think they'll come out better. Like
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: Drake May is such a baller. Everybody knows what Drake
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: May's been doing, but just offensively, the vibe and feel
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: like again we've played for these Vabel teams, like when
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: they have when the culture is hitting whenever. When all
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: the vibes are going in, they're winning football games. Like
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: you just see the geil going on in New England.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: Their defense is salty. I think you'll have a lot
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: of fun, like diving into the weeds of the Patriots.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: The buy ins incredible.
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: I think they can where it stays for me right now,
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: like before Week eighteen happens, because Week eighteen obviously has
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: a lot of implications. But let's say everybody handles their
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: business and are slotted where they are currently slotted. Me,
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: I see the Super Bowl being uh, Seattle in New
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: England is what I would call. I would love that
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: Super Bowl Seattle in New New England.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: I would absolutely love it. Let's talk, I mean, we
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: know what we gotta get you out of here. Let's
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: talk playoffs real quick. If I said to you Denver Broncos,
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: New England, Patriots, Jacksonville, Jaguars, Houston Texans, Los Angeles Chargers,
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: Buffalo Bills, and I left out Steelers and Ravens there
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: because we'll find that out next week. Of those teams
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: are just named, who you got who you think has
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: got the best? Because I feel like people are really
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: on the NFC. But the AFC, dude, like, I have
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: no idea whos going to come out of that.
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: I really don't. I mean, I think we've been saying
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: this every Monday morning for the last two months. Like
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: the AFC, I could make a really strong argument for
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: every single one of those teams why they could win
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: the whole thing and why they couldn't. I'll tell you
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: who I think is sneaky. And I'm not saying this
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: is my number one, but I well, I might be.
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: I think the Houston Texans are a sneaky postseason team
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: because defense is so now is so much more important.
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: I've said this a thousand times, but like defenses can
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: carry you a lot more in the postseason than the
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: can regular season. They got off to a fast start
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: those explosive plays on Saturday Night against against the Chargers,
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: Like that's what they need to be get stroud, pushing
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: the ball downfield, hard play action stuff thrown over the
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: top of your head. So I think they're just good
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: enough on offense to be just like middle of the road,
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: hang in there, make the players that are there, and
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: I think they can be dominant, like suffocatingly dominant on
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: defense and we've seen, We've seen that formula work. Now
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: I can make an argument for the Patriots. I do
- 1:15:15Speaker 4: think at some point in the playoffs, like overall, roster
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: does start matter, like when you start looking at like
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: premier players, star players. I'm not sure where Jacksonville and
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: New England are quite yet. You know, they're very early
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: in this rebuild quote unquote, So I do think they
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: have some work to do there of just getting prominent
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: players at impactful positions. But I think that AFC man
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: is just so up in the air. I think LA
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: and Seattle are the two clear cut over a long
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: period of time. I think they're the two best teams.
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: Know whether they win or lose, who knows, but I
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: think they're the two best teams in the NFC with
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: and then you know, we can debate the rest. But AFC,
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: I think it goes like five or six teams deep.
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: Yeah, and once tam he didn't even mention with the
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: Broncos into the one seed. Yeah, but that'll to me
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: that that whole team is what does bow Knicks do?
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: So the way this would work out currently where it's his,
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: because we don't know what's gonna happen with the AFC North.
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: We don't know what's gonna happen with the NFC South,
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: but where the bracket sits right now is Houston would
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: play Pittsburgh. Houston's gonna play whoever comes out of the North,
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: and then Houston would have to go to Denver. I
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: think Houston matches up really well against Ever because that
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: defense would be would be nasty, that's and that would
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: be a big time showdown. Yeah, that'd be a big
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: time showdown in Denver. Houston versus Denver. Where I would
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: lean is Houston because I agree with you Greg on
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: that that team just being like a sneaky dominant team
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: because their defense is so nasty and violent, and they
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: got the guys that can rush the passer, they have
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: the secondary, they got backers who can fly around the
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: football field. And then coming out on the bottom side,
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: it would be you'd have Jacksonville in the Chargers facing off.
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: I would I would take Jacksonville in that game. You
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: got Buffalo the Patriots. I would be taking the Patriots,
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: and then I think Jacksonville coming to New England, that's
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: where New England wins, and then you would have whoever
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: the winner is out of out of Denver in Houston,
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: which who knows, who knows who's gonna win that game.
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: I just dude, it's gonna be hard for me to
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: bet against Drake bet against Drake May, and just the
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: focus of that that everybody's gonna be focused. But again
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: being in those being in those positions, like with Rabel,
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: just knowing how he talks about the game and everything else.
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: To me, it be hard to get off what Drake
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Ma can do.
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: And the run to the run game's coming alive. Drake
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: May's in the best deep ball since what Russell Wilson
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: in the second year when they won the Super Bowl. Like,
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: that's kind of what it's.
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: In New England being in a spot too to where
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: if they if they were to take down the Chargers
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: or Jacksonville in Foxborough, they'll be set up to where
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: if it's Houston coming out of it, they'll have to
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: get through Denver, like that'll be a very physical game.
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: Who the winner who comes out of that to where
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: New England will be just positioned well, especially if Houston wins,
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: they'll be hosting that AFC champions That's what that's what you.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: Want, that's what you want. The only thing I disagree
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: with is I kind of lean Denver over here Houston
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: because that's gonna be an awesome That's gonna be awesome game.
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: But I just think, I mean, their offensive lines give
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: up the least amount of SAX season. Yeah, and that's
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: where it's like best on best, let's see what we
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: got here. But if you can slow those guys down
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: even a little bit, that you put yourself in a
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: more advantageous situation.
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: I think how many games in a row has Houston won,
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: like seven, eight, seven or.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: Eight eight games in a row I believe.
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: And Jacksonville's won yesterday was their sixth in a row.
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: Seven here we go again. Six. Yeah, it's one of those,
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: one of those.
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: So again I ask which team enters the playoffs with
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: the most juice and the most momentum and the most
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: energy and feeling the best. They haven't lost in months.
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: But if you talk about New England too, like they've
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: really only had one bad half of football came back. Yes, yeah,
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: they lost the momentum, that's the momentum.
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: Well, the halftime always, halftime always resets, momentum resets.
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: We haven't even talked about Themnium checklist, so I know
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: like when it stops, starts, when it ends, when it resets.
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll send you those lists.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: Is a point system as well as far as like
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: three and outs touchdowns.
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: You're always gonna hear about momentum from me after the
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: result happens.
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: Yeah, which is which is smart, Which is smart because
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: you know, I would imagine that the team going in
- 1:19:17Speaker 4: the Texans. So the Texans play the Chargers this weekend.
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: Yes, so let's just they just played.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: Broncos, played the charge them.
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: Sorry, they played the.
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: Jacksonville plays Oh, jackson Titans. Jacksonville plays the Titans, sneaky.
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: The Texans play, Texans play the Colts.
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: Okay, so we don't know what's going to go on
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: with the Colts. Does Philip Rivers play? Do they start
- 1:19:43Speaker 4: Riley Leonard? Who knows? The Colts have lost all their momentum,
- 1:19:48Speaker 4: all of it, all of it.
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: People are saying it's Sauce Gardner's fault, That's what people
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: are saying.
- 1:19:53Speaker 4: They and he's one in seven, one and seven. That's
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: a tough season.
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: Yeah, So let's just say Houston keeps all their momentum
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: and gets there like ninth win in a row. Tell
- 1:20:06Speaker 4: me when their momentum ends if they lose in.
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: The playoffs when the clock at zero, got it.
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: Yeah, when they lose in the playoffs.
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: That makes sense.
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: So they have all the momentum until they lose. It.
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: Is that fair?
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: Yeah? Correct?
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: I think there's something to be said about winning a
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: lot of like winning your last six or seven games.
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: Damn it, I didn't mean to do that. They're winning
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: those last games and rolling in the playoffs with momentum.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: That is a thing.
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: I heard you say they were going to lose.
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: I'm just saying it's going to be a battle in Denver.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: I like the way Houston matches up against Denver and
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: then coming out of that game, the road that the
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: streak that they've been on. Houston Texas are the team
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: where you labeled you don't want to play them in
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: the playoffs like they are that team. I just in
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: my brain, if I'm trying to predict everything right now,
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: before we get in a week eighteen where the bracket
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: sits like they would just then after going out to Denver,
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: they would then have to go to Foxborough and winning
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: the AFC Championship against a quarterback like Drake May. So
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: that's where I would see they have all the momentum.
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: Two teams got all the momentum, right, somebody's gotta lose
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: the momentum.
- 1:21:12Speaker 4: Both wait time out, time out. This is gonna be
- 1:21:16Speaker 4: we both can have momentum at the same time.
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: Yes, dude, momentum is a fickle thing.
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: This is crazy, all of this.
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: And then if Seattle wins against the Niners, I think
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: it's gonna be hard for Seattle to lose at home
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: at all in the playoffs. So they have a ton
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: of momentum too, a ton of momentum. But if they
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: lose to the Niners, they lose a lot of momentum.
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: Now they become like a wild card team. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: that would be crazy if they lost it. But like
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: I guess, when did they lose? It would be a
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: fun thing to dive into, Like right, just depends. That's
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: why you played the game. That's why you play the game.
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: I'm fascinated by it. I think it's super interesting to
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: look at it that way, and I'm gonna lean more
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: into it, I think on my broadcasts.
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: Yeah, he has got to be the team that has
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: too much momentum, and you have.
- 1:22:08Speaker 4: Too much that you actually like overdose. Oh, yeah the
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: other way.
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: Oh yeah that yep, that's called getting cocky.
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: It's called getting hit in the mount Yeah yeah, it's
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: called getting cocky.
- 1:22:17Speaker 4: So we have different names, like up the threshold.
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: Yeah, there is.
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: There is definitely a sweet spot of momentum. There's a
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: sweet spot you gotta have.
- 1:22:25Speaker 4: Does everyone have a different sweet spot? Oh?
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: Absolutely Yeah. That's all based on the head coach.
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: Got it?
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: Yep, so that guy like Rabel?
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: Now can that head coach? Losers? Like? So when did Yeah?
- 1:22:39Speaker 4: So Vrabel had no momentum last year, got fired, couldn't
- 1:22:43Speaker 4: win it, but then he got when did he get
- 1:22:45Speaker 4: it back?
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: He went, he had to go, He had to go,
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: He had to go live in the darkness, he had
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: to go sit with Yep, got it and then he
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: came back out of the shadows.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: That's the thing about Raves man, he can hold so
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: much momentum. When you get too much momentum.
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: You gotta truly reset. That's why he had to go
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: to Cleveland for a year. Yeah, Rabel's got the juice
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: right now too. He just randomly shot Taylor and I
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: had text Merry Christmas, Yeah, Merry Christmas, love dad.
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I looked at I just smile, and so my
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: wife she goes, he really, he really does treat you
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: like that all the time. Well, yeah, this is this
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: is my life with grapes.
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: This might be my favorite five minute segment.
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: Yeah, but dude, yeah, I think I.
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: Just find it fascinating. And and Twitter. Twitter really has
- 1:23:27Speaker 4: been educating me a lot on like all of my
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: shortcomings and my football takes because I don't put enough
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: stock into and again I would I would give it
- 1:23:40Speaker 4: more credibility if someone could tell me when it stops
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: and starts.
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: Yeah, no, listen, what game do you cover this week?
- 1:23:50Speaker 4: Patriots?
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: So tons of momentum, tons of momentum.
- 1:23:53Speaker 4: I'll watched that Dolphins. Dolphins had no momentum, fired their GM,
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: got momentum back, lost the moment menim benched to a
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: next game. No momentum, Queen yours are yeah, quin yours?
- 1:24:06Speaker 4: No momentum. Last week beat Tampa who was playing for
- 1:24:10Speaker 4: the division, got their momentum back yep. And now they
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: go to Patriots. So two teams with really interesting momentum.
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: No, what he doesn't know, he doesn't know about backup
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: quarterback momentum or interim head coach met him.
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: But Quinn did lose the first time he went out there.
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: Well, they got They just had to. They had to.
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: They just had to puol Quinn aside and say, hey, man,
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: don't don't, don't put so much pressure on yourself. Just
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: go find some juice. Yeah, yeah, go crank it this week.
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: Don't take this game so seriously, go out there and
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: sling it. Yep.
- 1:24:45Speaker 4: The Dolphins got momentum back when the report came out
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: that the coach wasn't going to get fired. Do you
- 1:24:49Speaker 4: think that built their momentum.
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sure a lot of guys got some juice
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: from that. I'll tell you what, Greg, I'll watch the
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: game with you on s Yeah, and I'll also text you.
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: Just make sure you just check your phone so I
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: can just be like, hey, it's time, it's time to
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: talk momentum.
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: Can we get on a group chat and we can
- 1:25:06Speaker 4: talk momentum tonight through the game, the Monday night game.
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: Yeah, Yes, we got you, Yeah, we got you. We'll
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: let you know when.
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: Calls between your commercial breaks, and we'll let you know
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: exactly where it's at.
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: Hey, guys, all right, welcome back here to snowy Foxborough
- 1:25:20Speaker 4: jel At Stadium. Fourteen to seven. Hey guys, Joe, I
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: just need to jump in. I just heard from the
- 1:25:26Speaker 4: Busting boys. This momentum has completely flipped. There was no
- 1:25:32Speaker 4: juice in the building. And now after that last three
- 1:25:34Speaker 4: and out, New England has all the momentum.
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: Here's what Fox needs to do is they need to
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: have meters, yeah, meters and momentum of just like little
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: like thermostats, and you just slowly they gain, they lose traction,
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: and we can come up with a whole point system
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: of momentum.
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: How many times a game, in an average game like
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: last night, how many times do you think momentum flipped
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: in that game?
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: Great question. Early in the game, momentum was stagnant because
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: both teams were scoring back to back.
- 1:26:06Speaker 4: Like you think the first play the game, pick six?
- 1:26:09Speaker 4: Who had all the momentum?
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: Niners, n oh yeah, my fault Bears. Yeah.
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: I was like, wow, you just really that that wash
- 1:26:20Speaker 4: That was about something where threw the pick and then
- 1:26:25Speaker 4: convinced himself that was the best thing for him. I
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: thought maybe you had, like, now.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: Hold on, there's something to that, Like what's your quarterback's
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: biggest fear throwing a pick six?
- 1:26:34Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: Your worst fear happens right away. You can't be affected. Now,
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: that's when you start to get the momentum. Well, yeah,
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: live next to fear, Yeah, next to it.
- 1:26:44Speaker 4: Okay, So he threw the pick six Chicago on the
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: road all the momentum. Yeah, that's a defense that thrives
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: off Takeaway's best takeaway team in the league, Dennis Allen.
- 1:26:57Speaker 4: So they get it first play the game, pick six,
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: and then they proceeded to give up forty two. Right.
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: Well, there's a lot of things that happened. So momentum
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: can be can be held in the hand, but it
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: can't be owned just off of one plan. It's all
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: about what happens in the next series. And I love
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: that we're thinking this right now.
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, got a little stagnant. Realize, Hey, our momentum
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: isn't going to be defensively. The team is going to
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: be offensively. Get the gun. We're in a shootout.
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: Yeah, And Greg, can I ask you a question, please?
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: What when did you stop believing a momentum?
- 1:27:28Speaker 4: Because I'm leaning into this as a joke.
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: No, no, no no, but you also you're a momentum gy,
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: Greg's anti momentum, your anti momentum.
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: What was it?
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: What was it?
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: What was the phrase?
- 1:27:39Speaker 4: Your emotions?
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: Emotions, however, they're not valid, they're not impactful.
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: Let me be very clear. I'm going to give you
- 1:27:45Speaker 4: my my official stance on all this, because right now
- 1:27:47Speaker 4: I'm like over I'm I'm having We're having fun with
- 1:27:51Speaker 4: the conversation.
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: We're having fun.
- 1:27:54Speaker 4: There is no question in my playing career that there
- 1:27:58Speaker 4: were games I went into the game feeling better, worse,
- 1:28:02Speaker 4: more confident, less confident, liked the game plan, didn't like
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: the game plan, felt great about where my hands were,
- 1:28:10Speaker 4: like I felt like I could really catch. And there
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: were other games where I was like, I don't know,
- 1:28:14Speaker 4: like there's something about this catch here that I just
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: it's not hitting me right, and I'm really overthinking it.
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: And I experienced all of those ranges of emotions, and
- 1:28:25Speaker 4: all I'm saying is it had zero in output, had
- 1:28:29Speaker 4: zero difference in the outcome of the game. Games where
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: I went in and I'm like, I'm gonna catch a hundred.
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: I'm feeling good. I just had back to back hundred
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: yard games. I'm feeling really good. I'd have two catches
- 1:28:39Speaker 4: for seventeen yards and I had two drops. We lost.
- 1:28:43Speaker 4: I dropped the last third down. I probably should have
- 1:28:45Speaker 4: caught it. I had I was the goat, the bad
- 1:28:48Speaker 4: goat all week long. Olsen blew the game, and that
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: next game you go in, You're like, shit, I hope
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: I get an early pass. I hope I get my
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: shit going and you get one fifty Like I don't know, Like.
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: You get your momentum back there, you got it back.
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: I guess my momentum came and went, is my point. So, like,
- 1:29:04Speaker 4: do I think do I think this is an emotional game? Absolutely?
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: Do I think teams and coaches should coach emotion I
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: mean shit, you guys have seen my videos of coaching
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: the kids, Like I am a passionate, competitive, emotional person,
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: Like that's my personality, and I think football is played
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: with emotion and football is played with energy. I'm not
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: debating any of that is not a factor it is.
- 1:29:31Speaker 4: I'm just saying, when it comes to decision making and
- 1:29:34Speaker 4: trends and what we should do on the field, from
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: a decision making standpoint, I think we just put so
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: much credibility into emotion and momentum and it's really just
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: a replacement of we don't really know why we're seeing
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: what we're seeing, so we've just made up this non
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: measurable you can't quantify it. It's the only explanation why
- 1:29:57Speaker 4: a team could go touchdown, touchdown, pick six, fumble, touchdown, touchdown,
- 1:30:05Speaker 4: miss the two point conversion, get the on side kick,
- 1:30:08Speaker 4: like it's the only thing that explains the highs and
- 1:30:11Speaker 4: lows of sport, and we don't know what else to
- 1:30:14Speaker 4: call it.
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: Momentum.
- 1:30:16Speaker 4: That's what I think odd.
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: So so he didn't answer the question he's look, Greg's
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: going to become a moment I.
- 1:30:23Speaker 4: Didn't answer the question.
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: I want to know when you stop believing momentum.
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: I think I I think I'm not going to say
- 1:30:31Speaker 4: stopped believing. It's like saying I don't believe in Santa.
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: I still believe in there's a magic, the idea.
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: He doesn't a polar express, he doesn't hear the bell anymore. Yep,
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: he doesn't believe in the momentum good recent doesn't believe
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: in those.
- 1:30:42Speaker 4: Spirit I started re evaluating trends in football probably after
- 1:30:47Speaker 4: I was done, and I've gotten into this world now
- 1:30:49Speaker 4: where I have to now get in front of millions
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: of people every Sunday, nice and I have to based
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: on an hour of conversations with these coaches, which are
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: hiring degrees of information that they provide, and I have
- 1:31:04Speaker 4: to be able to get up there and figure out, Okay,
- 1:31:07Speaker 4: how do I best present this game to an audience
- 1:31:09Speaker 4: that might be diehard fans and this might be the
- 1:31:12Speaker 4: first time they've ever watched either one of these teams, Right,
- 1:31:14Speaker 4: So you've got to split that baby and talk to
- 1:31:17Speaker 4: the diehards. But you also can't assume everybody knows what
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: they know, because they might just put the TV on
- 1:31:22Speaker 4: this weekend for the first time to watch Drake May.
- 1:31:25Speaker 4: So we need to introduce Drake May and Mike Vrabel
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: and all these guys to the world every single week.
- 1:31:33Speaker 4: But we have to do that where I'm not in
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: the building. I'm not in meetings, I'm not in the
- 1:31:37Speaker 4: locker room. I don't know the juice. I don't know
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: who's feeling good. I don't know that Taylor's ankle sore.
- 1:31:42Speaker 4: I don't know that Will doesn't want to guard Darren
- 1:31:43Speaker 4: Sproles and the goal. Like, I don't know about any
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: of this. So I have to look at the game
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: through black and white trends. Okay, how are they on
- 1:31:52Speaker 4: offensive efficiency? How are they in defensive efficiency? What coverages
- 1:31:56Speaker 4: do they love on early downs? Okay, what does this
- 1:31:58Speaker 4: team do on the early down run game? How do
- 1:32:00Speaker 4: those match? What is there at? And you got to
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: start breaking the go down the game through more of
- 1:32:05Speaker 4: like an analytical perspective, because when I put on the film,
- 1:32:11Speaker 4: I don't know if the left tackle was supposed to
- 1:32:13Speaker 4: have helped by the left guard on a full slide
- 1:32:15Speaker 4: protection when he got beat in the B gap and
- 1:32:17Speaker 4: gave up a sack. I think he should have, but
- 1:32:19Speaker 4: I don't know what the protection really was. I wasn't
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: in the meeting like I was when I was a player.
- 1:32:24Speaker 4: So I think the only way for me to fairly
- 1:32:27Speaker 4: evaluate these teams and present the matchup is a more
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: analytical approach, because it's really all we have. And as
- 1:32:35Speaker 4: I dove more into these trends, and then I stand
- 1:32:38Speaker 4: up there in the booth and I watch these games unfold.
- 1:32:41Speaker 4: More often than not, what that data, what those analytics,
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: what those reports laid out throughout the course of the week,
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: more times than not, is exactly how the game goes.
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: It's exactly how the team plays early downs, or the
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: coverage or the blitz rate or whatever it is like,
- 1:32:58Speaker 4: it typically holds pretty strong. I can't measure how hard
- 1:33:03Speaker 4: you're playing. I'm assuming everyone's playing hard, so for me,
- 1:33:06Speaker 4: it's not a factor. That is how I've now approached
- 1:33:10Speaker 4: the game the last five years, and as I've approached
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: it more like that, my understanding of the game and
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: what I say actually happening on the field has gone up.
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: Mmm.
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: I love the way you just broke the whole thing down.
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: Who do you call games with?
- 1:33:27Speaker 4: Joe Davis?
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: Joe Davis, I gotta tell you something, Joe, I gotta
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: tell you something, Joe New England. Losing that game a
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago versus the Buffalo Bills was the
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: best thing to happen to this team because it has
- 1:33:41Speaker 2: reignited and re sparked this momentum this team has going
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: into the playoffs. You know what I'm saying, you guys,
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: shit your pants, ship our pants. No, no, no, no,
- 1:33:52Speaker 2: it's got to happen. It's gotta happen in the game
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: when the Patriots score, and then we'll be in the
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: group chat I'll say save the line and then hey,
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: I tell you what, Joe, Yeah, I say?
- 1:34:02Speaker 4: Will I love you? Say it back? Yeah, yeah, what
- 1:34:07Speaker 4: do you think Twitter would do? What do you think
- 1:34:09Speaker 4: the internet? How my mentions would be a dumpster fire? No, no, no,
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: I said the word momentum. How much would people love
- 1:34:16Speaker 4: to ship on me?
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: I think people that don't see this will shoot before it,
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: but the ones that do will love you forever for
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: it love.
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: If we're it'll be a turning point to where Greg
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: now believes in momentum, in momentum, in the spirit of
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: the playoffs.
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: Right just before twenty twenty six, he believes reignited. Yeah,
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: Greg's love for the game and the passionate momentum.
- 1:34:39Speaker 4: Two thousand and it's my last story.
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: After this.
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he's been We've had him.
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, he gotta get I'm gonna go do it.
- 1:34:51Speaker 4: I gotta go sauna. I've eaten guys. I don't even
- 1:34:54Speaker 4: want to weigh in.
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: Hey, twenty twenty six.
- 1:34:57Speaker 4: Yeah, give us your story, give us your story of
- 1:34:59Speaker 4: the a lot of late night cocktails. I've really gotten
- 1:35:03Speaker 4: into espresso, Martiniz. We talked about that, hey company, separate conversation.
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 1:35:09Speaker 4: Twenty fifteen, we win our first fourteen games. We're fourteen
- 1:35:14Speaker 4: and oh on Christmas morning, we're fourteen and oh that
- 1:35:19Speaker 4: weekend we played the Atlanta We played the Atlanta Falcons,
- 1:35:22Speaker 4: who we had just two weeks prior. So in week thirteen,
- 1:35:28Speaker 4: our thirteenth win, whatever week it was. In thirteenth win,
- 1:35:30Speaker 4: we beat the Atlanta Falcons like thirty something to nothing.
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: Week fourteen we win Christmas Week, our fifteenth game. So
- 1:35:41Speaker 4: it's week sixteen. We go to Atlanta. We had just
- 1:35:44Speaker 4: beat them by thirty. We were fourteen and oh, we
- 1:35:48Speaker 4: had all the momentum. We're dabbing. We're fighting people in
- 1:35:52Speaker 4: Tennessee in the end zone. I mean, we are right.
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: Your fans are sending letters to the Charlotte Observer because
- 1:35:58Speaker 4: Cam's dabbing it. Like you talk about emotion and high
- 1:36:03Speaker 4: energy and vibes, and you couldn't be a more vibe
- 1:36:07Speaker 4: team than we were. In twenty fifteen. We lose to Atlanta.
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: Ooh, got too much.
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: We'd lose hockey hockey.
- 1:36:17Speaker 4: Cocky, we too much momentum. We lose to Atlanta. In Atlanta.
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: Week seventeen, we come home a lot of debate about
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: whether or not we should play the starters. We locked
- 1:36:29Speaker 4: up the one seed. We play. We beat the Tampa
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: Bay Bucks at home to finish the regular season fifteen
- 1:36:36Speaker 4: and one bye week. We have all the momentum. Long
- 1:36:41Speaker 4: story short, we beat Seattle. We were up thirty to
- 1:36:44Speaker 4: nothing at halftime. Apparently we left the momentum in the
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: locker room. We had to recover an on side kick
- 1:36:50Speaker 4: to win the game. We then beat the doors off
- 1:36:54Speaker 4: of Arizona. We scored like forty five. We were the
- 1:36:57Speaker 4: number one offense in the league. We scored thirty plus
- 1:37:00Speaker 4: against Seattle. We scored forty plus against the Cardinals. We
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: scored ten points in the Super Bowl. So a year
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: that was momentum and energy and vibes and good feelings
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: and locker room and we scored ten points in the
- 1:37:18Speaker 4: Super Bowl and lost. Yeah, But my point is like
- 1:37:23Speaker 4: along the ride, were we good because we were good?
- 1:37:26Speaker 4: Or were we good because we had vibes? Were we
- 1:37:28Speaker 4: good because we had momentum? I just think we were
- 1:37:31Speaker 4: good and I think we won a lot of games
- 1:37:34Speaker 4: that were close and we blew a lot of people
- 1:37:35Speaker 4: out because we were good, and Cam was the MVP
- 1:37:38Speaker 4: and we had ten Pro Bowlers, So like, was it
- 1:37:40Speaker 4: momentum or were we just good? And then all of
- 1:37:43Speaker 4: a sudden, did we lose the momentum or did we
- 1:37:45Speaker 4: just play shitty? Like I look back on the Super
- 1:37:48Speaker 4: Bowl and I'm like, we played shitty. We didn't block
- 1:37:51Speaker 4: von Miller. I ran the first third down too short.
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: I was a yard short, caught the ball and we punted,
- 1:37:56Speaker 4: Like did we lose the momentum? I just think we
- 1:37:59Speaker 4: played like shit and we lost. So like that's my point.
- 1:38:02Speaker 4: Like I look at that year and I go, if
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: the momentum was so high, why do we lose the
- 1:38:10Speaker 4: Super Bowl?
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: Man, yeah, fair enough makes you really reevaluate.
- 1:38:17Speaker 4: I should have ran deeper. On the first third down
- 1:38:19Speaker 4: of the game. I ran a backside. I was so
- 1:38:21Speaker 4: worried about edging. I had like a back I had
- 1:38:25Speaker 4: like a edge backside dig. I was late in the
- 1:38:28Speaker 4: I was late in the progression. I'll never forget it
- 1:38:30Speaker 4: my rest of my life. That's why I have so
- 1:38:33Speaker 4: many express on martinis. And I gave like a quick
- 1:38:37Speaker 4: little edge, but I probably I got out fast enough
- 1:38:39Speaker 4: that I could have gotten my depth. But they were
- 1:38:41Speaker 4: playing like quarters and the safeties were real tight, and
- 1:38:44Speaker 4: I let them dictate and it was like third and nine.
- 1:38:46Speaker 4: I ran like a seven roll to eight something like that.
- 1:38:50Speaker 4: Caught it got hit short. Nowadays, you probably go for it.
- 1:38:55Speaker 4: We punted and we fell behind by multiple scores, and
- 1:38:59Speaker 4: we just never got going. So you didn't edge it up,
- 1:39:01Speaker 4: and I'm just run a shitty route.
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: You didn't edge enough to keep it going enough get
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: so anytime I get close to edging, there's no way
- 1:39:10Speaker 2: I can keep the edge. Same.
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: I always lose the edge every time close to the edge.
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: Yeah, every single I get to the edge and I
- 1:39:17Speaker 2: just jump off the edge.
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: I always say to myself while I'm on the edge,
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: I'm like, do I this is right? Shut down the edge,
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: And it's always like finish.
- 1:39:23Speaker 2: Well, now that I know once's speak, Oh, it's already,
- 1:39:27Speaker 2: it's gone.
- 1:39:28Speaker 4: Well, now that I know that, once I have the momentum,
- 1:39:30Speaker 4: I don't want to get too far to the edge
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: of momentum because you told me that's cockiness.
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:39:34Speaker 4: But then I also have to evaluate in real time
- 1:39:37Speaker 4: where my sweet spot of momentum is because it's different
- 1:39:41Speaker 4: for everybody. And then the last piece I've learned today
- 1:39:45Speaker 4: was even though momentum is the number one factor of success,
- 1:39:50Speaker 4: there's no way to hold on to it at any moment.
- 1:39:53Speaker 4: You have to hand it back.
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: Well, you got to recalibrate. You can't fucking drink your
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: own kool aid, you know what I mean. You can't
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: think you're already dead, Like there's way to recapture the momentum,
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: which I would ask you when you lost the Falcons
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: in week fifteen, was there a sense in the locker
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: room like, hey, this is once you beat the breaks
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: off the next team you're like, hey, this lost is
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: the best.
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: Thing that happened to You can't just suit up on
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: a Sunday.
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: Yeah, we're about to go into playoff mode. We are.
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: We remember that where the Carolina is our momentum recheck.
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: Well, I was just gonna say, if you guys don't
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: lose the Falcons, you're probably bumped out in your first
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: game Divisional, probably out because then you don't have a
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: momentum check. You got to have it, just like the
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: Patriots did.
- 1:40:29Speaker 4: We scored thirty in the first half.
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: Right, but we already talked about the half wesets momentum.
- 1:40:34Speaker 4: So we scored thirty in the first half against Seattle
- 1:40:37Speaker 4: in the division round because three weeks two weeks earlier,
- 1:40:40Speaker 4: we lost in Atlanta exactly.
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: Yeah, you're starting to get it.
- 1:40:46Speaker 4: You're starting I'm starting to get it.
- 1:40:49Speaker 2: Because you remember you're going to half and you're like, oh, boys,
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: hey remember three weeks ago. You might not say it
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: out loud, but subconsciously in the back of the break,
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: that's where's att And then you thought to yourself, we're
- 1:40:56Speaker 2: gonna beat the Broncos because Peyton Main has got like
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: a broken neck and this it'll be easy.
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: He can't to the ball more a fifteen yards, which cocky.
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: So yeah, well that's a great point. What I so,
- 1:41:06Speaker 4: what I'm hearing is I need to do a better
- 1:41:08Speaker 4: job connecting two completely irrelevant, separate moments tying them together.
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: How do we tie them together? Momentum?
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't like the way you said irrelevant because
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: it felt like you were demeaning the conversation.
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: You know what he's saying, irrelevant factors that are extreme
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: on both ends.
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: I'm saying. He's telling us saying when he was thinking,
- 1:41:30Speaker 4: maybe we're getting to do with each other.
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: We're getting over our skis right now, Greg, instead of
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: standing up in the team meeting and be like, hey,
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: don't smell your own ship. Yeah, we could lose this
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: game if we walk in here with this attitude, he
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: chose to stay seated. Yep.
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: You know what I mean, yep, yep, just marinating in
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: all his momentum, which only turns into cocky.
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's like, no, you know what, we thought
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: we were going to beat the ship out of the Broncos.
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: We got humbled.
- 1:41:56Speaker 4: This is this is eye opening.
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: And before we get you out of here, Greg, give
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: me one New Year's resolution.
- 1:42:03Speaker 4: I gotta get back. I'm getting back in shape.
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, every year we talk about it. Six months,
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: I think six years. I'll every year I'll bust with
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: the boys.
- 1:42:11Speaker 4: Let's get jacked, But I'm not gonna get jacked. I'm like, sorry,
- 1:42:16Speaker 4: I'm I'm I hope you guys get jacked. I'd be
- 1:42:19Speaker 4: so proud if you get jacked. Here's how I look
- 1:42:21Speaker 4: at it. I for fourteen years, I busted my ass like,
- 1:42:27Speaker 4: I took my training very seriously what I ate in
- 1:42:30Speaker 4: my training, and I was super diligent and I was
- 1:42:32Speaker 4: never jacked. So I have no like false notions. Now
- 1:42:37Speaker 4: unless I got on like the sauce or something, I.
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: Was gonna say, now you can get on steroid.
- 1:42:40Speaker 4: Yah, I'm gonna start doing like peptide shit, which I
- 1:42:42Speaker 4: think is like the craze. I gotta like look into
- 1:42:44Speaker 4: it a little bit more.
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: Bro.
- 1:42:47Speaker 4: So if I do come back jacked, I'm here on
- 1:42:50Speaker 4: the record. If one day you see me and you're like,
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: holy shit, Olsen's yoked. I one hundred percent took some
- 1:42:57Speaker 4: sort of assistant substance peptide. I'm not saying juice, but like,
- 1:43:02Speaker 4: am I micro dosing some peptides and some Maybe I'm
- 1:43:05Speaker 4: not saying I.
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: Have you got on testosterone yet?
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: No, I'm on. I'm on hot dog beers and espresso martinis.
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: Maybe looking at some tea. Not having any more kids?
- 1:43:14Speaker 4: Are you?
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: That's the next that's the next week's conversation.
- 1:43:16Speaker 4: Next week's combo, we'll talk about after the new year
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: what we're doing to get our vibes right. But having
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: said that, like I just want to get back to
- 1:43:25Speaker 4: like middle baseline, forty one year old dad, Like I'm
- 1:43:30Speaker 4: fine taking my shirt off at the pool. No one's
- 1:43:32Speaker 4: gonna be like, wow, that guy's in great shape, and
- 1:43:33Speaker 4: everyone's gonna like, yeah, I can see how he used
- 1:43:35Speaker 4: to play pro ball, Like he's a big guy.
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's what you want.
- 1:43:38Speaker 4: I'm looking for that I'm not looking to be a hero.
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: Yeah, well, the thing you have going for you already
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: exquisite jawline. So in a T shirt, you're already running
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: the game. The goal is not to look like a bodybuilder.
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: The goal is a look in the mirror and not
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: want to throw up and be like, all right, I
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: can understand why she wants to sleep with me, and
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: that's then oh yeah, well you you check this out
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: and be like this camp either reason.
- 1:44:01Speaker 4: That it's sure not me.
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: Check it's not my body. Maybe it's just my personality.
- 1:44:05Speaker 4: Now you know, it's not my humor.
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not my body.
- 1:44:09Speaker 4: Maybe I'm just a shitty dad.
- 1:44:11Speaker 2: The goal. The goal is to feel good about having
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: sex with the lights on. Yeah, because I'm at a
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: point where I need to be pitch black. I gotta
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: close the curtains. I'm gonna close everything else.
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: Something to be said about the senses. Though you take
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: away a sense, the other one gets stronger.
- 1:44:24Speaker 4: Yeah it's nice you can't see ship.
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: Yeah, just you're all.
- 1:44:28Speaker 4: Over the map.
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm in the world where I'm having sex with
- 1:44:31Speaker 2: a T shirt on them.
- 1:44:31Speaker 4: Right, great show, great show, great show. In the last
- 1:44:41Speaker 4: four months, this might be my favorite episode we've ever heard.

- 1:44:47Speaker 1: the year. Man, Nothing matters, Nothing.
- 1:44:49Speaker 4: Matters till we're getting back in shape. We're not gonna
- 1:44:54Speaker 4: be heroes.
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: How good be heroes?
- 1:44:56Speaker 4: I think we can do it together. We gotta hold
- 1:44:58Speaker 4: each other accountable.
