- 0:09Speaker 1: Front Office unfiltered time with resident GM Jim Bowden joining
- 0:12Speaker 1: us JB. We were just talking about Wilson Contreras and
- 0:15Speaker 1: his hot week in terms of hot headed week, your
- 0:19Speaker 1: thoughts on everything that's gone on down there, and you
- 0:21Speaker 1: know how you would deal with it as a front
- 0:23Speaker 1: office if anything at all, Like, if you're the Red
- 0:26Speaker 1: Sox and you kind of stink this year, are you like, hey,
- 0:28Speaker 1: this is a fun spark for the team. What's your
- 0:30Speaker 1: view on what happened specifically last night? But also the player?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Well, I think, first of all, we all know that
- 0:35Speaker 2: Wilson Contreras is a very emotional player. He's got a
- 0:39Speaker 2: lot of passion, and he's got a lot going on
- 0:42Speaker 2: in his life right now. And I think the earthquakes
- 0:44Speaker 2: that are taking place in Venezuela is home country, and
- 0:47Speaker 2: all the things that he's dealing with comes out.
- 0:49Speaker 3: And remember, the.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Red Sox don't have that veteran leadership. There's no Alex
- 0:53Speaker 2: Bregman in that clubhouse. So Wilson Contreras, who has been
- 0:56Speaker 2: their best offensive player, is now trying to take a
- 1:00Speaker 2: role of being a leader, which is not He's not
- 1:02Speaker 2: a leader type. He's someone that you need a leader
- 1:04Speaker 2: to kind of keep him in line, and the Red
- 1:06Speaker 2: Sox don't have that. They have a lot of young
- 1:08Speaker 2: position players that aren't able to do that. But he's
- 1:11Speaker 2: having a great year. He's hitting two eighty three, like,
- 1:13Speaker 2: with eighteen home runs, and he leads the team and
- 1:15Speaker 2: runs batt in. He's just been really consistent offensively for them.
- 1:20Speaker 2: You know, obviously you don't like to see, you know,
- 1:22Speaker 2: the two ejections and not, you know, having to leave games,
- 1:26Speaker 2: and you certainly you know he's going to get suspended
- 1:28Speaker 2: for throwing the helmet.
- 1:29Speaker 3: That was the worst thing that took place.
- 1:31Speaker 2: You know, I don't think Cavali needed to do that,
- 1:34Speaker 2: and certainly Contraras is the one that escalated the situation
- 1:38Speaker 2: for me. But again, I think you've got a rookie
- 1:41Speaker 2: manager in Chad Tracy who should be calling him in
- 1:44Speaker 2: and calling him down. You've got a second year general manager,
- 1:49Speaker 2: same situation, and you don't have player leadership, and I
- 1:51Speaker 2: think that kind of makes this worse than it really
- 1:54Speaker 2: should be.
- 1:55Speaker 3: I like the player.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I like his heart, he wants to win, he plays
- 1:58Speaker 2: the game hard, but someone needs to talk to him
- 2:02Speaker 2: and try to keep them in line a little bit.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Not, I guess questioning some of the moves the Red
- 2:07Speaker 4: Sox made. But is this like the culmination of the
- 2:11Speaker 4: fact that Breslo didn't get a Bregman to be in
- 2:13Speaker 4: that clubhouse, the fact that, yes, the value of Roman Anthony,
- 2:17Speaker 4: like oh, he's going to be our best player, doesn't
- 2:20Speaker 4: suffice the leadership role. Do you feel like this kind
- 2:24Speaker 4: of came to a head in this moment because of
- 2:27Speaker 4: the fact that Wilson Contreras, who I agree with you
- 2:29Speaker 4: and I said it earlier. Isn't that leadership type?
- 2:32Speaker 3: He's the energy guy.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree with that assessment, and you know they
- 2:37Speaker 2: lacked the veteran leadership.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Look. I like their young players.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I love Roman Anthony and Saydan Rafaela and Will bra
- 2:44Speaker 2: and I think Marcello Meyer has talent. But you know,
- 2:47Speaker 2: when you're going to have that many young players, you
- 2:49Speaker 2: do need player leadership. We saw what Alex Bregman did.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I don't mean on the field. I'm not talking about
- 2:54Speaker 2: his offense or defense, but what he was doing as
- 2:57Speaker 2: a leader for the young players and even a eater.
- 3:00Speaker 2: You know you need, as you guys know Todd and
- 3:04Speaker 2: Eric playing the game as long as you guys did
- 3:06Speaker 2: you do need player leadership in the clubhouse, you know,
- 3:08Speaker 2: and that's something that the Red Sox lack.
- 3:11Speaker 3: This team is dysfunctional.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I mean, we know that they put together a pitching
- 3:15Speaker 2: staff that is good enough to make it to October,
- 3:18Speaker 2: but they didn't build a functional lineup. This is not
- 3:21Speaker 2: a very good offensive team. They are in need of
- 3:24Speaker 2: bats and so yeah, this team just was not put
- 3:28Speaker 2: together very well and they've got some work to do
- 3:31Speaker 2: before we, you know, cover them in October.
- 3:33Speaker 3: The next time, I.
- 3:35Speaker 5: Want to ask a question, Jaron Duran I said it before.
- 3:38Speaker 5: He needs a little bit of a change of scenery
- 3:41Speaker 5: from the Red Sox. I know how good he is,
- 3:43Speaker 5: I know how good he could play. Talk to me.
- 3:45Speaker 5: Is there any landing spots for him or do you
- 3:48Speaker 5: think he'll still be a Red Sox move forward?
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look, I think the San Diego Padres
- 3:52Speaker 2: are a great landing spot for him. I know aj
- 3:55Speaker 2: Preller has inquired about him several times.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Over the last few years.
- 3:59Speaker 2: With the vision of Fernando Tatisan right, Jackson Maryland center
- 4:03Speaker 2: and Jaren Durant and left with a great power, speed
- 4:06Speaker 2: potential combination. You know, I think the Red Sox outfield
- 4:09Speaker 2: situation has been muddled with you know, the goal Glover
- 4:12Speaker 2: William or Bray and right, you've got the platinum center
- 4:15Speaker 2: fielder and Sadan Raphaela and Duran knows that Roman Anthony
- 4:18Speaker 2: is going to be the long term left fielder. It's
- 4:20Speaker 2: not going to be him, and so I think it's
- 4:23Speaker 2: only a matter of time before he gets that change
- 4:25Speaker 2: of scenery.
- 4:26Speaker 3: But obviously it's makes it a.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Little more difficult for Craig Breslo when he's hitting one
- 4:30Speaker 2: ninety six and been on base at a twenty five
- 4:33Speaker 2: percent clip. It's hard to trade a player when you're
- 4:35Speaker 2: not performing here. But I agree with you, I think
- 4:39Speaker 2: a change of scenery makes a lot of sense here.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I think if I were another team out there, I
- 4:43Speaker 2: would try to buy low right now to get Duran
- 4:46Speaker 2: because I do like the player. I think he needs
- 4:48Speaker 2: to be put in left field and left and left
- 4:50Speaker 2: field and not have the DH full time. But he's
- 4:54Speaker 2: a much better player than what we've seen.
- 4:57Speaker 4: As the team acquiring him. Is it fair to say
- 5:02Speaker 4: your job could be able to line if you overpay
- 5:04Speaker 4: for a guy that's hitting one ninety six with the
- 5:07Speaker 4: potential that we just saw him win the MVP of
- 5:09Speaker 4: the All Star Game two years ago. So is that
- 5:11Speaker 4: the harder job or is it the job of getting
- 5:14Speaker 4: rid of the guy who's hitting one ninety six.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 5:17Speaker 2: I mean, look, it doesn't matter if you overpay. You know,
- 5:20Speaker 2: the GM job is it about winning trades. It's about
- 5:23Speaker 2: winning championships, right, It's okay to lose trades if you're
- 5:27Speaker 2: gonna win. I mean, the best GMS in baseball have
- 5:30Speaker 2: lost trades. I mean, who can forget John Schuholtz ed
- 5:35Speaker 2: trading David Cone for Ed Hearner, trading Adam Wainwright for JD.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Drew.
- 5:39Speaker 2: I mean, you know, these kind of things are going
- 5:41Speaker 2: to happen. Only thing that fans care about, and players
- 5:44Speaker 2: care about, and cities care about and media cares about
- 5:47Speaker 2: is winning bottom line. So you know, there are times
- 5:50Speaker 2: you have to overpay in trades, but if you get
- 5:52Speaker 2: the player that you want, sometimes it's okay to trade that.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Perhaps you're overpaying because you have an excess of pitching,
- 5:59Speaker 2: or an excess of shortstops, or an excess somewhere where
- 6:02Speaker 2: you feel like you can overpay, but it's worth it
- 6:05Speaker 2: because the player you're getting is a better fit that
- 6:08Speaker 2: player can bring you a championship where maybe what you
- 6:11Speaker 2: gave up wasn't going to help you as much.
- 6:15Speaker 5: I want to go on a different socks team. White
- 6:17Speaker 5: Sox still in the thicket things they've been doing pretty well.
- 6:22Speaker 5: How big of a buyer do you think they will
- 6:24Speaker 5: become trade deadline?
- 6:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they're going to be a buyer. And
- 6:27Speaker 2: you know, I was a fan of the hiring of
- 6:29Speaker 2: Chris Getz. I think I was one of only few
- 6:30Speaker 2: because I remember Chris gets calling me and said he'll
- 6:33Speaker 2: never forget that. I was there supporting the hire at
- 6:35Speaker 2: the time. I believe in what Chris gets is building.
- 6:39Speaker 2: He understands makeup and character, He understands baseball players. So
- 6:43Speaker 2: you know, when you look at him building this lineup
- 6:45Speaker 2: right now, you know he built a nucleus in the middle,
- 6:48Speaker 2: and then he's got a bunch of gamers and baseball
- 6:50Speaker 2: players around it. The White Sox right now are one
- 6:53Speaker 2: of only eight teams in baseball that has scored four
- 6:55Speaker 2: hundred runs as a team.
- 6:56Speaker 3: That's how good this offense has been.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Very young team that's going to be to get there
- 7:00Speaker 2: for years to come.
- 7:01Speaker 3: But pitching is the issue. As we all know, and
- 7:03Speaker 3: they need pitching.
- 7:04Speaker 2: If they're gonna win this division or if they're gonna
- 7:06Speaker 2: get in as a wildcard team, they're gonna have to
- 7:08Speaker 2: get pitching now. I talked to Chris Getz a couple
- 7:11Speaker 2: of weeks ago. He made it very clear to me
- 7:13Speaker 2: if they are still in this race, he said in
- 7:15Speaker 2: a month quote unquote a month, which would put it
- 7:18Speaker 2: right after the All Star Game, that he would be
- 7:20Speaker 2: in buy mode. Now, that doesn't mean he's gonna, you know,
- 7:22Speaker 2: mortgage the future, but it does mean, for an example,
- 7:26Speaker 2: if the Red Sox decided to sell between now and
- 7:29Speaker 2: the August third deadline, the White Sox would have interested
- 7:32Speaker 2: in Sonny Gray and or a roll This Chapman, two
- 7:35Speaker 2: guys that would absolutely fill the need and improve their
- 7:37Speaker 2: chances of winning. I do expect the White Sox to
- 7:40Speaker 2: be buyers. I do expect them to still be in
- 7:42Speaker 2: the race when we get to August.
- 7:44Speaker 1: People dehydration sucks, quints, electrolyte stick packs to the rescue.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I order them. I use them all of the time.
- 7:55Speaker 6: Somebody who may or may not have had some adult
- 7:57Speaker 6: beverages in their life. The next day, you know what
- 7:58Speaker 6: flavor I like, watermelon and I don't like watermelon, I'll
- 8:02Speaker 6: go raspberry and it helps me to get my citrus
- 8:05Speaker 6: salt in. But if I do, it helps me to
- 8:08Speaker 6: get back to normal, feeling good and ready to go
- 8:10Speaker 6: the next day.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Yep, tough workout or dry mouth in the morning, whatever
- 8:13Speaker 1: it is, this is going to help you out. Quint

- 8:47Speaker 1: want to take us to a little little taste of
- 8:50Speaker 1: GM territory. So the latest episode that you put out
- 8:53Speaker 1: there and I encourage everyone to go subscribe right now
- 8:55Speaker 1: please on YouTube and wherever you get your pods. This
- 8:57Speaker 1: is the hottest time of year for this mock trades.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Do you have a favorite? If not, I can t
- 9:03Speaker 1: you up on one that stood out to me that
- 9:05Speaker 1: got made some noise online. But was there a favorite
- 9:06Speaker 1: where you're like, hey, I really think both sides should
- 9:09Speaker 1: consider this.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I think my favorite trade idea is Joe Ryan
- 9:13Speaker 2: to the Atlanta Braves. I think that they've got the pitching,
- 9:18Speaker 2: the braves of the young pitching that they could sacrifice
- 9:21Speaker 2: to get Joe Ryan. You know, whether it's cam Keminedtti
- 9:24Speaker 2: and j R. Ritchie, whether it's Dedy or Fuentes and Caminetti.
- 9:28Speaker 2: I mean, any way you want to take two of
- 9:29Speaker 2: the three, you know. I think if you're the Minnesota Twins,
- 9:32Speaker 2: you have to realize you're a year and a half
- 9:34Speaker 2: away from losing Joe Ryan. You're not going to be
- 9:36Speaker 2: able to extend him long term with the cost that
- 9:39Speaker 2: it's going to take. And even though you're in a
- 9:42Speaker 2: race right now, I get it, but you're not really
- 9:44Speaker 2: in a race. And I would try to get my
- 9:46Speaker 2: return and if I could get two of those Braves
- 9:49Speaker 2: pitchers that I could control for five or six years
- 9:51Speaker 2: at the big league level. I've got to do it.
- 9:53Speaker 2: And for Atlanta, I think you have to understand you
- 9:57Speaker 2: have a window here.
- 9:59Speaker 3: You've got to under stan the Phillies are gonna beat you.
- 10:01Speaker 2: They're gonna beat They're gonna win this division because you
- 10:05Speaker 2: know they have Zach Wheeler and Christopher Sanchez and Asus Lozardo,
- 10:08Speaker 2: and you've got Chris Sale. And then you're hoping for
- 10:10Speaker 2: rain because you've got guys on the injured list or
- 10:13Speaker 2: you have guys that have just fallen flat on their
- 10:15Speaker 2: face over the last five or six starts. So the
- 10:17Speaker 2: Philly's gonna catch you. They're gonna go buy you. And
- 10:19Speaker 2: you've got the Miami Marlins that had the best record
- 10:22Speaker 2: in Major League Baseball in the month of June. They're
- 10:24Speaker 2: coming after you as well. You're gonna have to get
- 10:26Speaker 2: starting pitching. And I think the other issue is this
- 10:29Speaker 2: is your window to win, right I mean, when you
- 10:32Speaker 2: have a Kunya and Albi's and Olsen and this group
- 10:35Speaker 2: that you put together, you've got to go all in
- 10:38Speaker 2: and try to win right now. So I think it's
- 10:40Speaker 2: the kind of deal that would make sense for Minnesota
- 10:43Speaker 2: and building for the future. And I think for the Braves,
- 10:45Speaker 2: it's time to make that uncomfortable trade that Alexanthopolis doesn't
- 10:49Speaker 2: like to make but has made in the past, like
- 10:52Speaker 2: he did with Troy Tilowitzki when he was running the
- 10:54Speaker 2: Toronto Blue Jays. The time is to make that painful
- 10:57Speaker 2: trade that might come back to burn you, but it's
- 11:00Speaker 2: worth it if you can win. And this would give
- 11:02Speaker 2: you two postseasons with Chris Sale and Joe Ryan at
- 11:05Speaker 2: the top of your starting rotation.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Wait, didn't Alex Santopolos also trade for Ri Dickey. Yes,
- 11:14Speaker 4: that one didn't work out, but you know what, we
- 11:16Speaker 4: don't remember what the gms do. My question for you
- 11:20Speaker 4: is what are your other mock trades? Joe Adele and
- 11:23Speaker 4: I'm going to have a follow up based on what
- 11:25Speaker 4: you say. The Joe Adele io.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Yeah, the Joe Adell going to the Philadelphia Phillies, three
- 11:32Speaker 2: prospects going the other way to the Angels. This is
- 11:35Speaker 2: a deal that would never happen if Perrymanassion was still
- 11:39Speaker 2: the GM. But the great news for Angel fans is
- 11:42Speaker 2: John Moseylock is going to be making the calls at
- 11:45Speaker 2: this trade deadline.
- 11:45Speaker 3: For the Angels.
- 11:46Speaker 2: And by the way, John Mosey Lock will be on
- 11:48Speaker 2: my award winning Front Office show this Sunday ten to
- 11:51Speaker 2: one on Serious XM Channel eighty nine on MLB Network Radio,
- 11:55Speaker 2: and we're going to break down all the details of
- 11:57Speaker 2: what Moe's going to do with the Angels. But the
- 11:58Speaker 2: one thing that Moe has made very clear, He's going
- 12:01Speaker 2: to listen on on almost every player there, and if
- 12:05Speaker 2: he can make a good trade, he is going to
- 12:08Speaker 2: make a good trade.
- 12:10Speaker 3: He's not going to be afraid.
- 12:11Speaker 2: And I got the sense that after he met with
- 12:13Speaker 2: team president Molly Jolly, and after he met with the
- 12:16Speaker 2: owner briefly Ardi Moreno for a two or three hour breakfast,
- 12:19Speaker 2: he got the impression that his recommendations are going to
- 12:22Speaker 2: be heard and he's going to have the freedom and
- 12:25Speaker 2: the vision to be able to make this organization better,
- 12:27Speaker 2: which means the Angels pretty good chance that they're going
- 12:30Speaker 2: to get offers on Joe Adell, read Detmer, Jose Soriano,
- 12:34Speaker 2: and he's going to be open if he can make
- 12:36Speaker 2: trades to improve the team.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Mike Trout, excuse me.
- 12:39Speaker 4: No, that was well, that was that was exactly what
- 12:42Speaker 4: I was going to cough about how would can you
- 12:45Speaker 4: switch that in the sense of Mike Trout. Would it
- 12:47Speaker 4: be the same haul back if the Phillies take on
- 12:51Speaker 4: some of the contracts and get and get arty moreno
- 12:54Speaker 4: out from underneath that.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Uh, Well, Mike Trout is the one situation that I
- 12:59Speaker 2: don't get the impression that Mike Trout wants to leave
- 13:02Speaker 2: the Angels number one.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Number two.
- 13:05Speaker 2: I don't get the impression that John Mosey Loock wants
- 13:07Speaker 2: to come over here on a short term contract and
- 13:11Speaker 2: move Mike Trout. And I don't get the impression that
- 13:14Speaker 2: Alarady Morino wants Mike Trout to finish his career in
- 13:16Speaker 2: any other uniform except the Angels. So I think Trout
- 13:20Speaker 2: is the one exception. Again, that's my early read. I
- 13:22Speaker 2: will ask John mose look directly on Sunday to make
- 13:27Speaker 2: him give me that direct answer.
- 13:29Speaker 3: But the early vibe.
- 13:31Speaker 2: That I'm getting from Moe is that Mike Trout will
- 13:33Speaker 2: be an Angel on August fourth.
- 13:37Speaker 1: JAB question for you about timing. I know everybody always asks,
- 13:40Speaker 1: like one of these trades going to happen, and most
- 13:41Speaker 1: front offices are focused on the draft right now and
- 13:44Speaker 1: then eventually we'll start to trickle in with trade offers
- 13:48Speaker 1: for teams that know they're selling and maybe are selling
- 13:50Speaker 1: big names. Do you think there should be more urgency
- 13:52Speaker 1: in general? This is just a big picture question. The
- 13:54Speaker 1: reason I ask is Matt Chapman just got hurt. I
- 13:56Speaker 1: know his name popped up. The stock is pretty good
- 13:58Speaker 1: based off a slow start, but and he really rebounded
- 14:01Speaker 1: and he's a good player, he's got the track record.
- 14:03Speaker 1: That's not an easy contract to move. My point is
- 14:05Speaker 1: do you always have to wait or can you, as
- 14:08Speaker 1: the seller try and call teams and say, hey, we're
- 14:10Speaker 1: taking final offers. We're doing this now. Because there always
- 14:13Speaker 1: is injury risk. I know it's not crazy for a
- 14:15Speaker 1: position player, but let's say Chapman is out for a
- 14:17Speaker 1: month or two, they just lost their opportunity.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Yeah, there's no doubt. And look, we don't have a
- 14:23Speaker 2: lot of sellers right now. That's part of the problem.
- 14:25Speaker 2: All the gms I talked to and no one expects
- 14:27Speaker 2: a lot of action until as you mentioned after the
- 14:30Speaker 2: All Star week. You know that being said, we do
- 14:34Speaker 2: know Rockies, Giants and now probably Angels are the three
- 14:37Speaker 2: teams that you know probably will and I don't think
- 14:41Speaker 2: there is any question. If you're a seller, the quicker
- 14:44Speaker 2: you sell, in theory, the bigger return you get. Because
- 14:47Speaker 2: in theory, if you're going to trade, and you're a
- 14:50Speaker 2: seller star player to someone, there's more value the more
- 14:53Speaker 2: games he can play. You know, if you're going to
- 14:55Speaker 2: make the deal Logust third, well, then you're only getting
- 14:57Speaker 2: fifty eight days of regular season. If you trade them today,
- 15:01Speaker 2: you get in, you know, thirty four extra days of
- 15:04Speaker 2: that player. So there's more trade value to come back
- 15:07Speaker 2: to you. So if you're a team like the Giants
- 15:09Speaker 2: and you're trying to move Robbie Ray or Lewis Arrise
- 15:13Speaker 2: or even Raphael Devers earlier, better for sure for them.
- 15:18Speaker 2: And then in terms of the contending teams, you know,
- 15:20Speaker 2: contending teams always want to get better that they don't
- 15:23Speaker 2: like to wait. But the problem is in this particular environment,
- 15:26Speaker 2: we're not in a buyer seller's market. That's not what
- 15:29Speaker 2: this trade deadline is going to be about. It's going
- 15:31Speaker 2: to be contender to contender, need to need. I mean,
- 15:34Speaker 2: you've got last place teams are only five and a
- 15:36Speaker 2: half games out in the Wildcard, including the Boston Red Sox.
- 15:39Speaker 2: So you know, teams that are that close to contending.
- 15:42Speaker 2: No one is looking at their one loss record. They're
- 15:44Speaker 2: looking at the games behind in the wildcard column, and
- 15:48Speaker 2: if they're in striking distance. Nobody on July first is
- 15:51Speaker 2: willing to say pack up and sell unless someone makes
- 15:54Speaker 2: them a trade offer they can't refuse.
- 15:56Speaker 1: A se Geek is MLB's official ticket marketplace, and in
- 16:00Speaker 1: addition to finding every single game on the MLB calendar,
- 16:04Speaker 1: there are big events coming up very soon.
- 16:06Speaker 7: There's an All Star game. There's a home run derby.
- 16:09Speaker 7: And if you think you're perfect and you can pick
- 16:11Speaker 7: the right seat at the home run derby to get
- 16:12Speaker 7: the most home run balls, you can get the little
- 16:15Speaker 7: green dot and that might be your lucky seat. Don't
- 16:17Speaker 7: go red dot, though, because you might not get any balls,
- 16:19Speaker 7: but go redgreen dot and get as many home run
- 16:22Speaker 7: balls as you think you can catch.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Yep, you click the seat, you check out what your
- 16:26Speaker 1: view is. Each ticket's rated on a scale of one
- 16:28Speaker 1: to ten, so you know you're getting a good deal.
- 16:30Speaker 1: And that's what AJ's talking about. Green good, red bad.
- 16:33Speaker 1: With those dots and the code for you territory one
- 16:36Speaker 1: zero for ten percent off your next set of tickets
- 16:39Speaker 1: at Sea Geek. That's ten percent off any MLB tickets
- 16:42Speaker 1: with promo code Territory ten. Make sure you click the
- 16:46Speaker 1: link in the description of this episode that'll help you
- 16:48Speaker 1: download the app and then get the code automatically added
- 16:52Speaker 1: to your account so that you can use it later.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Thank you to see geek.
- 16:56Speaker 4: All right, let's go to the Giants. We obviously know
- 16:58Speaker 4: Robbie Ray, we survive most likely. We just talked about Chapman.
- 17:03Speaker 4: If I bring up a name like Jung Holy, he
- 17:06Speaker 4: is at the peak of what he's done in Major
- 17:09Speaker 4: League base plays, coming off of shoulder injury. They slammed
- 17:11Speaker 4: into a wall a few years ago. It's not a
- 17:14Speaker 4: buster or posey contract. Why do we not hear a
- 17:17Speaker 4: name like that that maybe the Giants will be willing
- 17:19Speaker 4: to get out of if the right team comes calling.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Giants have been very clear to opposing teams everybody but
- 17:27Speaker 2: logan Web will listen to. So that increasedly includes they
- 17:31Speaker 2: both pay guys. That that includes everybody. I mean, that's
- 17:34Speaker 2: that's what they've been saying. You know, they haven't said
- 17:37Speaker 2: except for Lee Endeavors, and they.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Haven't done that.
- 17:39Speaker 2: They just said, we're not going to trade Web. But
- 17:42Speaker 2: we'll listen on everybody else. So that's kind of where
- 17:46Speaker 2: Buster Posey and Zach Menazien are right now, and they're
- 17:49Speaker 2: open for business and they're listening to people and and
- 17:53Speaker 2: they're grinding and working, and so it'll be fun to
- 17:55Speaker 2: see what they're able to do and who they actually
- 17:57Speaker 2: trade at the end of the day. You know, I think, obviously,
- 18:00Speaker 2: as you mentioned, Robbie Rays the most obvious to go.
- 18:03Speaker 2: We don't know how many starting pitchers will or will
- 18:05Speaker 2: not be traded, and so a team, if a team
- 18:09Speaker 2: really needs a starting pitcher, if you're a team like
- 18:11Speaker 2: the Orioles, you know, at some point you might want
- 18:14Speaker 2: to stop the dreaming of school Ball or Ryan and
- 18:16Speaker 2: try to get what is realistic. Because you know, Robbie
- 18:20Speaker 2: Ray's capable of starting a Game three or a Game
- 18:22Speaker 2: four of a playoff series, and we know that is
- 18:25Speaker 2: one guy will be available, So I'm guessing he'll be
- 18:27Speaker 2: the first one traded.
- 18:32Speaker 5: Go for it, Dad, Yeah, I was going to ask
- 18:34Speaker 5: about school ball as well. I've heard a lot of rumblings.
- 18:37Speaker 5: I'm sure you've heard a lot more about the whole situation.
- 18:39Speaker 5: Where do you see, if anything, him going anywhere? Is
- 18:43Speaker 5: it Benny talks with maybe going to a certain team.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Already, Scott Harris has been very clear that he wants
- 18:50Speaker 2: the Tigers to get back in this race. He loves
- 18:53Speaker 2: what he's seen with the best catcher in baseball and
- 18:55Speaker 2: Dylan Dingler and the rookie of the year Kevin McGonagall,
- 18:58Speaker 2: and you saw Torkles and Yard last night.
- 19:00Speaker 3: We all know good Riley.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Green is and they just believe their team is better
- 19:04Speaker 2: than the record and they can turn things around.
- 19:06Speaker 3: We saw how good Schooble looked last night.
- 19:09Speaker 2: That really helps because everybody's been scouting Schoobles every start.
- 19:13Speaker 2: That was his best start since he came off the
- 19:15Speaker 2: injured list. That was a very positive start with the
- 19:17Speaker 2: punchouts again, I don't expect a decision by the Tigers
- 19:22Speaker 2: until at least three or four or five days before
- 19:25Speaker 2: the deadline, and I think the standings and the games
- 19:28Speaker 2: behind will determine what they decide to do. But you know,
- 19:32Speaker 2: obviously if they're not in it, they'll move them. I
- 19:34Speaker 2: think the most likely candidates are Dodgers, Yankees Braves. The
- 19:40Speaker 2: Dodgers are denying it behind the scenes and telling people
- 19:43Speaker 2: that they have enough starting pitching and they're not going
- 19:45Speaker 2: to play.
- 19:45Speaker 3: I don't believe them.
- 19:47Speaker 2: It's very easy trade with them at she and River,
- 19:49Speaker 2: Ryan and Zaire Hope.
- 19:50Speaker 3: To get Schooble.
- 19:51Speaker 2: That's a package is going to be tough to match
- 19:54Speaker 2: by someone. And those are all excess players the Dodgers
- 19:57Speaker 2: could afford to trade. And if you're the Dodgers, you
- 19:59Speaker 2: wouldn't want Yamamoto, Scoobel, Otawani glasnow Snail is your rotation
- 20:05Speaker 2: in October? I would I think the Braves we talked
- 20:08Speaker 2: about the pitching they have for Joe Ryan, although alex
- 20:11Speaker 2: Anthopolis doesn't like rentals, so that's why I think Joe
- 20:14Speaker 2: Ryan's a better fit for them. But certainly he's got
- 20:16Speaker 2: the young pitching that the Detroit Tigers that Scott Harris
- 20:19Speaker 2: would want. And the New York Yankees are loaded with
- 20:21Speaker 2: guys Am Rodriguez and Ben Hess. They could trade one
- 20:24Speaker 2: of their young outfielders like Spencer Jones if they wanted to,
- 20:27Speaker 2: so they have enough to get him as well. And
- 20:30Speaker 2: I think whoever gets Schooble is going to be a
- 20:32Speaker 2: team that thinks they can win a World Series. The
- 20:35Speaker 2: price is going to hurt. It's going to be painful,
- 20:37Speaker 2: but probably worth it if you get to hoist the trophy.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Jab You're the perfect person to answer this. When I
- 20:44Speaker 4: get asked by people that play, that watch the game
- 20:47Speaker 4: you see a catcher get hit by a foul tip,
- 20:49Speaker 4: They're like, do you miss catching? When you see David
- 20:52Speaker 4: Stearns going through what he's going through as a GM?
- 20:55Speaker 4: Do you miss being a GM? Because there's like, should
- 20:59Speaker 4: he be fired? Should he get his full five year
- 21:01Speaker 4: window to make what he's done? You know, come to fruition,
- 21:05Speaker 4: He's made their defense worse, he gutted their coaching staff.
- 21:08Speaker 4: So do you really miss it? JB?
- 21:11Speaker 2: I miss it when you're winning. I miss it when
- 21:13Speaker 2: you trade for Ken Griffey Junior. I miss it the
- 21:17Speaker 2: years you're losing.
- 21:18Speaker 3: No, I don't.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Is it fun to have a plane flyover a stadium
- 21:22Speaker 2: that says fire Bowden? Is it fun to have death
- 21:24Speaker 2: threats and Major League Baseball sending policemen to your house
- 21:29Speaker 2: just so you don't get shot? No, that part's not
- 21:31Speaker 2: fun at all. I don't miss that part of it whatsoever.
- 21:35Speaker 2: I don't miss seven days a week, eighteen hours a
- 21:37Speaker 2: day grind, but miss I do miss the fraternity feeling
- 21:42Speaker 2: in the clubhouse every single day. I do miss the
- 21:44Speaker 2: ability at the trade deadline to go make deals. Like
- 21:47Speaker 2: one of my favorite times in the trade deadline is
- 21:49Speaker 2: I got three starting pitchers within eight days and David Wells,
- 21:52Speaker 2: Mark Portugal and David Burba and it was an.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Amazing eight days in my life.
- 21:56Speaker 2: The adrenaline was crazy and our team ended up going
- 21:59Speaker 2: to the NLCS because of it. I miss those moments,
- 22:02Speaker 2: but I also have compassion to what David Stearns and
- 22:05Speaker 2: Craig Breslo are going through. The hate that they get professionally,
- 22:08Speaker 2: the hate they get personally, the hate that their family gets,
- 22:12Speaker 2: the threats that they get. It's terrible and disgusting, and
- 22:16Speaker 2: I feel for them and I support them.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Look, David Stearns is.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Gonna get his five years in New York to turn
- 22:23Speaker 2: things around. This was a miserable offseason. As we know,
- 22:27Speaker 2: he's going to get a chance to fix it. We'll
- 22:29Speaker 2: see what he's able to do. And I think Craig
- 22:31Speaker 2: Breslo's got a shot of one more offseason to fix
- 22:34Speaker 2: it as well. I know theo Epstein and John Henry
- 22:36Speaker 2: are both supporting them. I think sometimes you got to
- 22:39Speaker 2: give the executives an extra year or two. Fans don't
- 22:42Speaker 2: like it, but fans just want to win. And the
- 22:45Speaker 2: one thing, and I mentioned this to Craig Breslow the
- 22:47Speaker 2: other day, is you know, when we were losing, everybody
- 22:50Speaker 2: wanted me fire and everybody hated. When we finished in
- 22:53Speaker 2: first the next two years, I didn't have to pay
- 22:54Speaker 2: for dinner for about ten years. So baseball changes that
- 22:58Speaker 2: quick as a And I remember Andy McPhail once telling
- 23:02Speaker 2: when I first got the job, he said, just remember this.
- 23:05Speaker 2: The years that you lose, you're going to be hated.
- 23:07Speaker 2: The years that you win, you're going to be loved,
- 23:08Speaker 2: and it's never going to be in between. And that's
- 23:11Speaker 2: absolutely how it plays out for that particular position.
- 23:13Speaker 3: So do I miss the years of losing? No? Do
- 23:16Speaker 3: I miss the years of winning? Yes?
- 23:20Speaker 1: JB. We'll finish with this. My favorite part of what
- 23:22Speaker 1: you said the other day was basically how that airplane
- 23:25Speaker 1: was able to save money by switching fire to hire. Right,
- 23:29Speaker 1: he just kind of wided out the f and then
- 23:31Speaker 1: put an h and then said hire Boden for both teams.
- 23:34Speaker 1: And that was at the Bengals game. So they wanted
- 23:36Speaker 1: you to run the Bengals and the Reds. So how
- 23:38Speaker 1: quickly the tables turn, as they would say in the office, Yeah.
- 23:42Speaker 3: It does happen that quick.
- 23:43Speaker 2: It was funny because I was at that Bengals game
- 23:45Speaker 2: when the plane floor and said Boden, hire Boden to
- 23:48Speaker 2: do both the same airplane.
- 23:50Speaker 3: By the way, they said fire Boden the previous year.
- 23:52Speaker 3: And that's just how it works. Almost ridiculous. And a third,
- 23:56Speaker 3: but it's all part of it.
- 23:57Speaker 2: But the end of the day, as I've told everybody,
- 24:00Speaker 2: those positions, you have to win. And that doesn't mean
- 24:02Speaker 2: finishing second, third, or fourth. That doesn't mean winning ninety games.
- 24:06Speaker 2: You gotta win. You gotta win. You gotta be able
- 24:09Speaker 2: to pop champagne. You gotta be able to hold up trophies.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Yep, great stuff.
- 24:14Speaker 5: JB.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Love talking to you. Thanks for the time. Everyone. Check
- 24:16Speaker 1: out GM Territory and we'll catch you soon.
