Latest / Mom Street USA / 50. Overcoming Motion Sickness at Disney
Transcript
- 0:04Welcome everybody to Mom St. USA.
- 0:06My name is Jackie AKA Wishes Mama and joining me is my
- 0:10wonderful Co host Kate AKA the Disney Cicerone.
- 0:13And we are coming to you tonight with a topic that I feel like a
- 0:17lot of people ask us about and that is Disney with motion
- 0:21sensitivity or having motion sickness and what does that look
- 0:25like? And how do I do that and all
- 0:27those types of things? So that's the goal tonight is
- 0:29for us to give you all of this really good information.
- 0:32So Kate, how's it going today? It's going.
- 0:35We've had quite an interesting week with a lot of winter storms
- 0:41and things, so recovering from that, but I feel like this topic
- 0:46is a really great one to dig into.
- 0:49I'm I'm someone who does suffer from motion sickness and so do
- 0:52two of my children. So I'm very well versed in this
- 0:56topic. Although I will say there's
- 0:59different levels of motion sickness and sensitivity
- 1:01depending on who you are and something that borrow bothers
- 1:04somebody, it might not bother somebody else.
- 1:07So so true. As you start to think about this
- 1:10topic in general, we give you tips.
- 1:13Just know that just like if you have, if you have maybe shoes
- 1:18that you recommend for Disney. Some shoes might work better for
- 1:21some people but not for others, you know and so it's the same
- 1:24kind of thing. With this topic, I think you
- 1:26have to think about it that way. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:29And I'm I am at this point knock on wood, lucky enough to not
- 1:33have to worry too much about motion sickness.
- 1:36Although my oldest has been prone to motion sickness in the
- 1:40car. When we're driving like to and
- 1:42from Disney like in the mountains, we have to like we
- 1:45have a little bag of stuff for him to be ready.
- 1:47So I'm waiting for the day that it creeps into his ride riding
- 1:54when we go. So I I'm kind of just prepared.
- 1:57And we on this last trip we did grab his little bag of stuff
- 2:01that we had like prep for him and throw it in our our park bag
- 2:04just in case. So we had it, but as of right
- 2:07now, knock on wood, we're doing OK.
- 2:11Well, my my oldest is the same. He doesn't do like trips over
- 2:15the mountains and windy twisty. He gets sick every single time.
- 2:18He just hates hates those drives.
- 2:21And then my middle child, she gets sick every time we fly.
- 2:25So she's airsick but never carsick.
- 2:27Like she could read in the car. She's like good.
- 2:30But something about the like turbulence and dropping in the
- 2:33aircraft makes her sick. So she has a different kind of
- 2:35sickness than he does. And then I have one where I
- 2:38like, can't go backwards on anything and I can't do like
- 2:41extreme spinning. So we we have a variety of
- 2:46sickness a little bit of. Everything for you.
- 2:48Just to keep you on your toes. Yeah.
- 2:52Yes. Well, shall we talk?
- 2:53I think the first thing we're going to tackle is just some
- 2:56methods that we have come up with or researched or you know,
- 3:00people that have given us information and their insight on
- 3:04just ways to combat motion sickness when you're at the
- 3:07parks. So I think we're going to start
- 3:10there tonight. So let's talk about some some
- 3:14methods to help combat sickness. And I do see over here on my
- 3:17side hope is saying someone said smelling an alcohol wipe makes
- 3:20nausea go away, but it makes me feel so sick smelling it.
- 3:23So that is. I've heard that too that
- 3:26smelling an alcohol wipe or a little bit of rubbing alcohol
- 3:29will help sometimes with sickness, but it does depend on
- 3:32the person, obviously. Jackie, what do you want to dive
- 3:36into our first topic here? Yeah.
- 3:39So one of the ones that I think I will always suggest to people,
- 3:42and I suggest this to literally everyone that's going to Disney
- 3:45is just if there are rides that you're concerned about, whether
- 3:48it be if it's appropriate for your kid, whether it be if it's
- 3:51appropriate for you, whether it be motion sickness, whatever
- 3:54your reasoning, if it's something you're concerned
- 3:56about, just pull up a point of view video on YouTube, watch it,
- 4:01get an idea for what it's like and and kind of go from there.
- 4:04Now some of the rides that are are easier to do that than
- 4:08others. Some of them are dark.
- 4:10If you're looking at something like Tron or Cosmic Rewind, it's
- 4:13hard on some of those point of view videos.
- 4:15You've really got to find one that's got good, like night
- 4:18vision with that, but some of some of the other ones you
- 4:22you'll be able to tell fairly easily if you think that will
- 4:25bother you for your particular motion sickness symptoms and
- 4:30triggers. Yeah, that's really good advice.
- 4:34Also, being really aware of what you eat and when you eat before
- 4:37going on a ride that can make you feel nauseous.
- 4:40Avoiding this is kind of hard to do at Disney.
- 4:42Honestly. I saw this advice.
- 4:43I was like, I don't think we could do this avoiding greasy
- 4:46and acidic foods. Maybe you don't eat like the
- 4:49whole corn dog, you've got offered half of it or something.
- 4:52You know, like maybe just like moderate.
- 4:54Your also avoiding carbonated drinks.
- 4:57Dinner is not always fun to do on vacation.
- 4:58Sometimes you really like drinking that, but sometimes
- 5:02that can upset your stomach a little bit more when you go on
- 5:04these rides. Also eating smaller meals more
- 5:07often, smaller meals and snacks more often than rather than like
- 5:11large meals. So instead of like 3 meals a
- 5:13day, you eat like 6 snacks or smaller portions per day.
- 5:18I find especially when it's hot outside, this is really critical
- 5:21for me. In the Florida heat it will get
- 5:24me. If I try to eat big meals, I
- 5:27almost always get really sick, so having small meals makes a
- 5:31difference. And I think paying attention to
- 5:33what you're eating right before you know you're going to be
- 5:37going on one of those rides. So maybe not completely avoiding
- 5:41it all day long, but just being really smart about, OK, we have
- 5:46a lightning lane for or a virtual queue return time for
- 5:48Cosmic Rewind. We're going to be going on that,
- 5:51you know, relatively early in the morning.
- 5:53So I'm going to be careful about what I eat for breakfast because
- 5:55I know that that one's going to be a trigger for me.
- 5:57So just thinking about what you're eating and when you're
- 6:00eating it. Yeah, also drinking lots of
- 6:04water. Always.
- 6:07But it really does make a huge difference.
- 6:09If you keep yourself really well hydrated, you can definitely
- 6:12combat a lot of that sickness. Is it like your whole body
- 6:15starts to just feel awful when you haven't drank enough water?
- 6:18And it's really easy to get dehydrated at Disney?
- 6:21Yeah. Yeah, I definitely agree with
- 6:23that. And Blair makes a really good
- 6:24point over here on my side of the chat.
- 6:26She said. Sipping water regularly, not
- 6:28chugging it all at once, that could also have the opposite
- 6:31effect. So that is a very good point.
- 6:32Blair, thank you for adding that.
- 6:34When it comes to drinking your water, yeah, don't.
- 6:36Don't chug a whole a whole water bottle worth of water before you
- 6:40get on Tron. Yeah, I have a hard time doing
- 6:43that. Anyway.
- 6:44Like, I've I've tried to do that to stay hydrated.
- 6:46Like, I like the idea of like, oh, like drink the rest of your
- 6:48water before you refill your water bottle.
- 6:50But I can't always drink that much water.
- 6:52It will make me sick. So yes, sipping throughout the
- 6:55day is a very smart choice. Yes, and planning your outfits
- 7:01around it, which sounds a little like what, but just making sure
- 7:06that you're comfortable and you're not.
- 7:08Your outfits aren't too tight. Don't make you feel
- 7:11claustrophobic, especially around like your stomach area.
- 7:16You know, making sure that you're comfortable in what
- 7:18you're wearing. So that way if you are in a in a
- 7:20situation where you start to get a little bit nauseous, that
- 7:24doesn't make it worse. Yeah, you know, you think of AI
- 7:28know for me, if I start to feel really sick, say if I'm on an
- 7:31airplane, I start to feel air sick.
- 7:33I immediately get like super, super hot and I want to be able
- 7:36to take off layers. But if I don't have any layers I
- 7:38can take off in public, like that becomes like a huge
- 7:41problem, right? So think through knowing from
- 7:45your past experience, how you, how you experience your
- 7:48sickness, you know, and to kind of dress accordingly.
- 7:50Sometimes people, something impressing their stomach will
- 7:54trigger something if they're feeling off.
- 7:56Or maybe it's it's the layers and it's the heat, you know,
- 7:58just give yourself a fighting chance of not getting sick by by
- 8:04what you're wearing. I think is is wise to do.
- 8:07And I think the other thing you can think about, we talked about
- 8:10what you're wearing, but also where you are in the car, you
- 8:13are less likely to get sick if you're in the middle of a
- 8:16coaster versus the front or the back.
- 8:19So you can always just kindly request it from the Cast member
- 8:23when you get like to the last cast member that assigns you
- 8:26your row that you're going in. If it's a coaster, you can just
- 8:29ask them for a middle row or see what they can do.
- 8:32Sometimes you might have to wait one more round.
- 8:35Oftentimes they're just like, yeah, go ahead.
- 8:36You know, it's it's not a big deal at all when you're
- 8:38requesting something like that. Yeah, they're used to it.
- 8:41But always be kind anyway, because it does inconvenience
- 8:44them a little bit, you know. So just just just be kind about
- 8:47it. Don't be rude as always to cast
- 8:50members, and I would also say this is especially true on like
- 8:54Cosmic Rewind is a big one that you definitely want to try to
- 8:57sit in the middle ish like row 5-6 if you can.
- 9:01Those are a little bit easier on your body in terms of the G
- 9:05forces and things like that, so I.
- 9:07Recommend that, yeah. Another thing you can do is to
- 9:12focus your eyes on a fixed spot. You know, this is like you would
- 9:15anybody who's much sick. This is like, OK, when you sit
- 9:17in the car, you watch the road or you drive, it's like, ideally
- 9:20you're driving because that will keep you from getting sick,
- 9:22right? But the same kind of goes for if
- 9:26you're on a ride as much as you possibly can, keep your head and
- 9:29neck as still as possible and don't like on Cosmic Rewind.
- 9:35Don't look at the moon, like, don't look at anything that's
- 9:37going to cause the G forces here.
- 9:39So don't look at the goat on Big Thunder Mountain in Disneyland.
- 9:42You don't have to worry about the Rams and Disney World
- 9:45because they're not a thing. Don't look at the moon on Cosmic
- 9:49Rewind, that will that will definitely make you feel way
- 9:52more sick. Things you can also do is like
- 9:55plant your feet firmly and kind of hold on so you don't get
- 9:58jostled as much. Also good if you have like back
- 10:01injuries and things like that. Although you should talk to your
- 10:04doctor. Refuge have back injuries about
- 10:05whether or not you should go on these rides.
- 10:07Very true. Not doctors.
- 10:08So also watch the track if you can, just like you would the
- 10:15road on coasters to see what's coming if you're able to some of
- 10:18these you can't like Cosmic will be Turning and and Space
- 10:23Mountain. It's dark you know.
- 10:25So as much as humanly possible, watch and see what's coming,
- 10:28because your eyes are taking input to communicate to your
- 10:31brain about what you what you should be doing, what your
- 10:33body's doing, and when you can make that connection visually
- 10:37with what's going on in your brain, that will make it so that
- 10:39you will get less sick. Exactly.
- 10:43Scientist Kate over there telling us Brain connection.
- 10:49Love it. Love it.
- 10:51Now if you are in the parks and you do start to feel sick and
- 10:55you don't have anything with you, which we're going to talk
- 10:58about here in a moment, some different things you can use and
- 11:01bring with you. Go to first aid.
- 11:04They have things that will help and they are.
- 11:08That's what they're there for. They're there to help you and to
- 11:11give you advice. And so go to first aid, let them
- 11:16know what's going on and they will help you out.
- 11:18So if you are stuck in the parks with nothing to help.
- 11:23First aid is your place to go, yeah.
- 11:25And they'll also, especially if you have been sick, they'll take
- 11:28your blood pressure and they'll like, make sure it take your
- 11:30vitals and things, make sure that you're doing OK, which I
- 11:33think it is good for just reassurance.
- 11:36But you're they'll take care of you.
- 11:37They'll give you things if you need them and they'll offer you
- 11:41some medicine if they if they think it might help, if they've
- 11:44diagnosed you with whatever and they think it would be good.
- 11:46So yeah, definitely a great place to go and it doesn't, it
- 11:49doesn't cost anything, It's free.
- 11:51So go and get the help you need. And especially if it's hot
- 11:53outside, it's air conditioned in there.
- 11:56So and often times if it gets to the point where you like need a
- 11:59space to lay down, they've got areas that they can help you
- 12:02find to go and take a break for a minute if you need to, you
- 12:07know they're they're definitely there to help.
- 12:08So utilize that. Yeah, Disney, it's all about
- 12:11your health and safety. They care about you in the
- 12:14parks. They want to make sure that you
- 12:15are being safe and that you're getting what you need so that
- 12:18you are not going to get injured or injure anybody else.
- 12:21So, so yes, go there if you can. Let's talk about some different
- 12:25things that you can try to help if you're someone who is new to
- 12:29motion sickness or you haven't quite figured out what works
- 12:33best for you. Now.
- 12:35Disclaimer This is not medical advice.
- 12:39This is just things that we have found that have worked for
- 12:42others or have worked for Kate and her family.
- 12:46Definitely talk to your doctor. If you're someone who knows that
- 12:50you experience motion sickness but have not found that you know
- 12:55combination of what works for you, please talk to your doctor.
- 12:58Do not take our advice solely and use it in the parks.
- 13:02This is just information that we'd like to present to you so
- 13:06that you can take it to your doctor to figure out what's
- 13:09best. Yes, we are.
- 13:11We are definitely not medical professionals and we don't want
- 13:13to come off as though as such. So but and you also know your
- 13:19body and there might also be things we suggest here that
- 13:22might have adverse, what is it adverse like.
- 13:27These are not side effects when you take them with another
- 13:30medication that you might be on and those kinds of things.
- 13:33So if anything is is like a medication, definitely make sure
- 13:36you check with your doctor to make sure it's something you can
- 13:38take. That being said, the first thing
- 13:42we have is motion sickness bands, which a lot of people
- 13:45will recommend that you can get. The ones that are just the ones
- 13:48that use a pressure point right here between your two tendons
- 13:54newer than both your wrists and that that's supposed to kind of
- 13:56like help alleviate motion sickness.
- 13:59And for some people these work really, really well, very
- 14:02effective. My, my son, who's a little bit
- 14:04more sensory of a person, really hated them because he didn't
- 14:08like something pushing on his wrist, so.
- 14:11Yeah, that's exactly what happened with mine.
- 14:14He will still reluctantly wear them because he prefers that
- 14:19over the the medication that we have for him.
- 14:23He would prefer to not have to take the medication if he
- 14:26doesn't have to, which, like, I don't blame him at all, but he
- 14:29doesn't like. Yeah, he doesn't like how tight
- 14:31it feels and constricting that it feels on him.
- 14:33So he very reluctantly will wear them, but he doesn't love them.
- 14:37Yeah, but there are some people that swear by them.
- 14:39Like that's the only thing that works for them and that's great.
- 14:42They've never worked for me. So I've I've, I've tried them
- 14:45several times and they've never worked.
- 14:46So it's like I've kind of given up on them for my me personally.
- 14:50There's a lot of people they do work for and if you want to go
- 14:54to like the next level, if you're like you know you're a
- 14:56chronic motion sickness person and to you or like I'm ready to
- 15:01just like invest in something that will stop this.
- 15:04They have something called a relief, relief band, which is a
- 15:09about 200 to 2:20 depending on the model that you get, but it's
- 15:14more effective for a lot of people.
- 15:15So it's an anti nausea band that releases a specific pattern of
- 15:19pulses that stimulates the median nerve under the skin.
- 15:23The pulses normalize the nerve messaging from the brain to the
- 15:26stomach and rapidly relieve nausea and vomiting symptoms
- 15:29without any side effects. So I don't know if that is safe.
- 15:34Some people have said they've used it during pregnancy.
- 15:36I don't know if it's safe for pregnant people, so also keep me
- 15:39to talk to your doctor. But it does sound like it's been
- 15:43a game changer for a lot of people and some other people
- 15:46were just like this didn't work for me at all.
- 15:48Like we said, yeah, so, but that might be something if you suffer
- 15:53from motion sickness long term, but you're just like and you're
- 15:55sad that you can't go on things, maybe it's something you want to
- 15:58give a try and invest in. Yeah, yeah, I was reading that
- 16:02that when you put that under notes, I was like, that is
- 16:04fascinating. Again, I'm not, you know, I I am
- 16:07just barely dipping my toes into this world right now.
- 16:10So, like, I don't know a lot of the different things other than
- 16:12just the few things that we've tried for my son.
- 16:14But like, I was like, huh, that's really interesting.
- 16:18I have a couple people over here that are saying that, yeah, they
- 16:20know. Blair says her husband used one
- 16:22and it worked. Well, Stephanie, so that they
- 16:23have them for her husband and her daughter and they both work,
- 16:26work really well for both of them, so.
- 16:29Yeah, like I was reading through some of the reviews of it
- 16:31because I don't have one personally, and that seemed to
- 16:34be the thing that didn't work on.
- 16:35It was the charger Like it wouldn't get.
- 16:37It wouldn't charge properly. That would be.
- 16:40That would be a problem. So I mean, that seems like a
- 16:43downside, but the rest of it, it seems like it actually did work
- 16:45for a lot of people. So kind of an interesting option
- 16:48there. Do we want to talk a little bit
- 16:50about something that is more of a medication that you can take?
- 16:53Because there's a couple options here.
- 16:55We have several different options as far as like a
- 16:57medication version, the first being Dramamine and they do have
- 17:02an adult version and a kids version of this.
- 17:04So if you've got a kiddo that I think it's under 12, don't quote
- 17:08me on that, but I'm pretty sure it's under 12.
- 17:11They have a kids version. This is what we've tried with my
- 17:14son. He hates the way it tastes, but
- 17:16it works really well for him. So.
- 17:20So you would take it about 30 minutes before going on whatever
- 17:24ride it is that you anticipate giving you problems.
- 17:28So it is a preventative. It's not something that's going
- 17:30to necessarily help, although it could in a pinch.
- 17:34It has with my son before when we were in the car, but it's
- 17:38mostly more effective as a preventative, so if you're
- 17:42already feeling sick, it may be too late for it to help.
- 17:45It just really depends on. I mean, you might as well try,
- 17:48but probably it'll probably prevent any future sickness from
- 17:52that point, so. Yes, and I will say this.
- 17:55We have a note here about opting for a less drowsy formula,
- 17:59possibly because like this will this knocks my son out whenever
- 18:04he takes it. Yeah, so it makes them very
- 18:07sleepy. Yeah.
- 18:08But the less drowsy formula, I'm not sure there is a kid version
- 18:11of the less drowsy formula. I haven't seen one.
- 18:14If there is, because it's the same, the same formula as
- 18:18boning. So if you're familiar with that,
- 18:20that's meclizine hydrochloride. That's pretty much the same
- 18:24active ingredient as less drowsy Dramamine.
- 18:28So if you're looking trying to debate between the two, pretty
- 18:31much the same thing, between boning and less Drowsy
- 18:34Dramamine, those are the usually the ones that I lean towards
- 18:38taking. I I swear by boning for when I
- 18:41fly especially, and I'll take boning before a day when I know
- 18:45I'm going to do a lot of thrill rides and it usually doesn't
- 18:48make me too drowsy. I don't notice being that much
- 18:52more tired, but it does keep me from getting sick on a lot of
- 18:55things so. Yeah.
- 18:56And do keep in mind that both of those options do have like a
- 19:00time frame, so like they they're not going to last you 24 hours
- 19:03there, you know. So, so definitely look into that
- 19:06because you may need to end up taking a second dose during the
- 19:08middle of the day. So that may help you determine
- 19:11what kind of option you want to look at for that.
- 19:14Yeah, and they say it with boning.
- 19:15You should take it the one the night before you go to the parks
- 19:19and then take it as directed throughout the day the next day
- 19:22and that kind of like gets it into your system to start
- 19:26preventing things. I guess that's what I heard.
- 19:28I've actually never tried that but that's what people have been
- 19:30recommending and I was like well, as long as you're taking
- 19:32it as the as directed you know like time frame, it seems like
- 19:36that wouldn't be a bad option to do.
- 19:38Especially if you know that you get sick on rides.
- 19:41I didn't mention it, but I think we should something that I do
- 19:46with my kids because the flavours not the best with
- 19:51Dramamine. My kids usually I'm not like
- 19:55World's Best Mom for this, but they usually take it with
- 19:58something that they do like the taste of.
- 20:00So for me it's usually like M&M's or some sort of candy they
- 20:03like. Not a ton, just a little bit,
- 20:05yeah. But you know, whatever it is
- 20:08that they do like to eat, that can kind of mask the flavor.
- 20:10Like they always have a follow up.
- 20:11They always ask for a bottle of water and like a little bit of
- 20:13candy. And so they they eat it.
- 20:15They eat it really quickly. And then they, like shove the
- 20:17candy in their mouth and then drink a whole bunch of water.
- 20:19And that's how they they eat. They take them because they
- 20:21hate, they hate the flavor. I think all of all three of my
- 20:23kids hate it. So yeah, good times with that.
- 20:29Hey, you know, it could be worse.
- 20:32Don't make me a bad mom. Thank you, Christina, for that.
- 20:35I appreciate that. I mean, I'm just like, hey,
- 20:37sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do, especially if
- 20:39you're flying with your children and you know they're going to
- 20:42get air sick and they don't like the flavor of something.
- 20:44We're like, what's worse, them having a small handful of M and
- 20:48Ms. or the air sickness? Right.
- 20:51It's like not. Nope, Nope.
- 20:53M and Ms. It is a whole bag if they need it.
- 20:59I also say that something we have discovered, because
- 21:03everybody in my family pretty much gets motion sick, is that
- 21:06Benadryl can also work in a pinch.
- 21:08If you don't have anything else on hand but you do have
- 21:11Benadryl, again, it's going to make you drowsy.
- 21:13Like don't. I wouldn't recommend driving
- 21:15taking that, and I wouldn't, you know, I would just know that
- 21:19you're going to get pretty sleepy and I wouldn't, I
- 21:21wouldn't take it unless you absolutely had to.
- 21:23If you had nothing else to take, but you had some Benadryl, you
- 21:26could take that and it has similar effects to Bonine and
- 21:30Dramamine. Yeah, I hadn't heard that
- 21:32before. So I was like, hmm, that's
- 21:33interesting because I do usually keep Benadryl on me.
- 21:35So I was like, well, that's good to know.
- 21:37Yeah, I've gotten desperate a couple of times, so.
- 21:40Hey, you know, that's. Mostly on flights.
- 21:43So I get to sleep and then it was not a big deal, yeah.
- 21:46Yeah, So another option if you're not a fan of medication,
- 21:51oral medication, they do make different types of patches that
- 21:55you can wear. I'm not even going to attempt to
- 21:58pronounce that word. Oh.
- 22:00OK, I'll do it. I've got it.
- 22:02So scopolamine transdermal patch, it's a prescription only
- 22:08patch that you put behind your ear and it lasts or you can also
- 22:12put it on your stomach, but I know for sure behind your ear
- 22:15and it lasts for three days so you don't take it off for three
- 22:18days. And it that is what I used on my
- 22:21first cruise when I was like super nauseous.
- 22:23And I you can you have to go to your doctor to get a
- 22:26prescription for it and it really doesn't have a ton of
- 22:29side effects. I think it was mostly like dry
- 22:32mouth, which I didn't really experience.
- 22:34And then when you come off of it, you can feel like slightly
- 22:37dizzy when you're like coming back, like once you remove it.
- 22:41But I found that that was one of the best things.
- 22:44If you're you're a severe motion sickness sufferer, that is
- 22:49tremendously helpful and it's just something.
- 22:51It's this patch you put on your skin.
- 22:53So. Yeah, that's good to know.
- 22:55And then I did reach out to some friends on Discord and just
- 22:58asked about, you know, if you guys have suggestions.
- 23:00So our friend Kristen had a link to these ones on Amazon that are
- 23:06like natural herb, like like an herbal relief patch for motion
- 23:10sickness. And she said that especially for
- 23:13my husband and kids wear those on Flight of Passage, Cosmic,
- 23:15etcetera. And for car sickness too.
- 23:17They put them behind each ear and on their belly button.
- 23:21Yeah, yeah, I've. I have used those.
- 23:24They didn't work for me. But again, different people
- 23:27works for different things. So I have heard it working for
- 23:29other people really well. The one that I got had a very
- 23:33strange smell. So I was like I think that was
- 23:35part of it was like the smell was very off putting and
- 23:37probably made me a little bit more nauseous.
- 23:38So I think you would have. There's a couple different
- 23:40versions out there though, so maybe I just got a weird one.
- 23:43Yeah. So if you're looking for the one
- 23:44that Kristen, our friend Kristen suggested, it is in our Mom St.
- 23:47channel on the Discord, which you can find that in Mr. Lincoln
- 23:51bio. So if you're looking for that
- 23:53one, that's where it is. Thank you, Kristen.
- 23:55Yeah, it's I think that that does work for a lot of people.
- 23:58It's gotten really high reviews on Amazon and things like that.
- 24:01So it's an option that just didn't work for me.
- 24:05Next up we have mints, which we talked a little bit about.
- 24:09Like you can smell little alcohol wipes, you know instead
- 24:11of smelling something you can have something sometimes,
- 24:15especially peppermint and spearmint.
- 24:18Those tend to to help a lot and you could also do them in like
- 24:22not not eating them, but you can use them in essential oil form
- 24:26as well as long as you know how to use those safely.
- 24:29Because there's there's ways to use essential oils that are can
- 24:32otherwise they can irritate your skin or your kids skin or things
- 24:35like that. So make sure you're using them
- 24:36safely. Yeah.
- 24:38And then another one that you can use is different forms of
- 24:42ginger. So whether that be ginger chews,
- 24:43ginger candy, ginger ale, there are ginger pills that you can
- 24:47take. So there's also different forms
- 24:49of that. So if you find that you know
- 24:51that when your stomach is upset or you're feeling nauseous, that
- 24:54ginger helps you with that, that is definitely an option.
- 24:57And just throw some in your bag in a little zip lock or whatever
- 25:00you need and then just have it on hand.
- 25:03If you're those types of ones that we just recommended, I
- 25:06would say are more for like maybe a little lesser versions
- 25:11of motion sickness, because those are truly not going to
- 25:14probably help. If you're like full out nauseous
- 25:19after getting off of a ride, it may tide you over for a few
- 25:22seconds until you use one. Maybe one of the other options
- 25:26that we suggested, but those are definitely good in a pinch to
- 25:29have on hand. Definitely.
- 25:31And Christina and Brittany over here both saying mint chewing
- 25:35gum is like is what they use. And I agree that's that's
- 25:38definitely something I feel like, I feel like with the mint
- 25:42and the ginger. Just for somebody, for me
- 25:44personally who does has a lot of motion sickness, I feel like
- 25:47those are kind of good at kind of like staving off like light
- 25:49motion sickness, like just kind of like the general unease.
- 25:53If like on a boat it's like barely rocking, I'm good.
- 25:56Like maybe that would help for me personally, Like if it's
- 25:59going to be like a more extreme, I'm going to have to go to like
- 26:02one of the other methods. And everybody, you're
- 26:04everybody's different. So it depends on who you are and
- 26:07how your motion sickness effects you.
- 26:08So yeah. And I think just some some
- 26:12general advice from the mom St. Moms here.
- 26:16Pace yourself. If you know that certain rides
- 26:20are going to upset your stomach, make you feel nauseous, give
- 26:23yourself time in between to recover before going on another
- 26:26ride. Go sit down, go find some air
- 26:30conditioning to relax and maybe close your eyes for a few
- 26:33seconds and just let your body calm before you try to go on
- 26:37another thrill ride. Yeah, for sure.
- 26:41Like, really give yourself the time and don't.
- 26:43It's very tempting. It doesn't need to run thing to
- 26:46thing to thing to thing and you don't want to like slow down
- 26:48your party. They also have to really pay
- 26:50attention and your kids too. If they're like struggling, like
- 26:54sit down and and give them that time to just rest and and like
- 26:57let their body kind of reorient before you push into something
- 27:00else or you push yourself to something else, that can make
- 27:03all the difference. I do have a note here from
- 27:06Gisella says pretzels help when nauseous that they learn them
- 27:09from their OBGYN. So that's pretty interesting.
- 27:13I had never heard pretzels, but we're all fans of pretzels over
- 27:16here. Maybe keep a little bag of
- 27:19pretzels on you just in case. I think that would help for
- 27:22especially pregnancy, like morning sickness and stuff.
- 27:26It's, you know, having some carbs definitely helps a lot
- 27:29when you're feeling nauseous, yeah.
- 27:31Yeah, I agree. It's more advice knowing your
- 27:33limits and what you can and cannot handle.
- 27:37And sometimes it's maybe better to sit out a ride than to be
- 27:40sick the rest of the day. Yeah, which is hard.
- 27:44It's hard to sit out a ride, especially when you really want
- 27:47to go on it. You really want to experience
- 27:49it. But you know, there's some
- 27:52things that if you experience it and then you feel sick for like
- 27:552 hours afterwards, imagine all the stuff you're not going to be
- 27:57able to enjoy just because you chose to go on the thing that
- 28:01maybe made you sick. So know your limits.
- 28:03It's always, always good life advice.
- 28:06Yeah, know your limitation. So true.
- 28:09Yeah, I had an experience with that.
- 28:11I don't have motion sickness, but I was early on in my
- 28:15pregnancy and I went to Universal with some friends and
- 28:19I had been cleared by my doctors to write anything I wanted, but
- 28:21I knew that that was not in my best interest.
- 28:25So the only time that I've been to Universal, I rode like two
- 28:29things because I was like, I was, but I was like, again, it
- 28:33wasn't worth ruining the experience for me.
- 28:37Yeah. So I walked through all the
- 28:39queues and I got to, you know, be immersed in all of the
- 28:42different lands and see everything.
- 28:44Still. I just didn't do the rights.
- 28:46So, you know, you got to make that decision for what's best
- 28:49for you and what's best for your group.
- 28:51And it was early on in our trip, too.
- 28:53It was like the first day. So I was like, Nope, not doing
- 28:58it. Yeah, but it is, it is good
- 29:01though, I mean to still be able to walk through the queues,
- 29:04that's a really good thing. You can you still can do that
- 29:08and just walk through the queues with your party and then just
- 29:10take the, you know, they call it chicken exit, but like, you
- 29:12know, take the take the exit before you go over.
- 29:14Just to ask a cast member and say like hey, I I prefer not to
- 29:17ride. Is there a way that I could exit
- 29:19and they will show you a place to go?
- 29:21Because that happens a lot, especially in those big thrill
- 29:24rides. So you don't have to feel weird
- 29:26about doing that. That's OK.
- 29:27Yeah, yeah, it happens a lot. A lot more than people think, I
- 29:30feel like. But yeah, that's totally an
- 29:32option if you're if you want to spend time with your family and
- 29:35want to be there with them and want to get to, you know, don't
- 29:38want to have to sit back while everyone else waits for 30
- 29:41minutes for a ride, wait with them and then just dip out.
- 29:46And a lot of Disney rides, like half of the experiences in the
- 29:49queue, you know, they have those elaborate themed queues.
- 29:52Think of like Rise of Resistance and even Cosmic Rewind.
- 29:55Like a lot of these rides have these incredible queues.
- 29:58Tron has an incredible queue. Well, part of it, half of
- 30:01Tron's, 1/4 of Tron's queue is incredible.
- 30:07Let me Yeah, maybe like a solid, solid third.
- 30:10I don't know. Depends on, I mean, yeah.
- 30:15Well, because you get to see, like the reveal at the beginning
- 30:18and then you get to go, yeah, I mean.
- 30:20It's like the big loading room is cool and like the beginning
- 30:23is kind of cool and then it was kind of like, OK, so you see the
- 30:28lockers, it's just kind of fun. Like, you know, you get to see
- 30:30what it what's happening. Watching people load is pretty
- 30:33fun anyway. I also have a note here from
- 30:37Britney. It says if I feel sick or
- 30:38nauseous on a ride, I just close my eyes, which honestly, I've
- 30:42never tried, but my kids do that when they're scared.
- 30:44So I don't know, like, that could definitely help.
- 30:47So it's something to try if you want to, yeah.
- 30:52So yeah. And then I do have I I I
- 30:55honestly just copied and pasted this from our friend Christina,
- 30:58who I think is over on your side of the chat right now.
- 31:00But she had a really, really good insight on taking her
- 31:03kiddo. She had talked about maybe
- 31:07preloading all of the Super easy rides and working their way up
- 31:11to the bigger rides. She said going on 7 Doors Mine
- 31:15train, although it was my kiddos choice entirely, was too much
- 31:17for him and he was scared of other rides after that.
- 31:20He didn't like how it made his stomach feel, so he thought
- 31:22every ride was going to be like that.
- 31:25So that's a really, really good point is if it's your kiddos
- 31:28first experience on these coasters and you're really not
- 31:30sure, maybe working them up to that is a really good point.
- 31:35And then she had some really good advice.
- 31:36She said doing things before the trip that would help them get
- 31:39used to that dropping sensation that a lot of the rides have.
- 31:43She said. For example, during the summer,
- 31:44go to a water park, go down slides or slides at your local
- 31:47park, go sledding down some hills.
- 31:49If it's winter, you know, just to try to get them used to what
- 31:53that might feel like. And I think that's a really,
- 31:54really good idea if you're someone who maybe you suffer
- 31:57motion sickness and you anticipate that your kiddo is
- 31:59going to trying to test the waters a little bit before you
- 32:03just dive in feet first. Yeah, I mean, you could even go
- 32:06to a more local amusement park if you have something that's
- 32:09smaller. You know, a lot of states do
- 32:12have something that's a smaller amusement park that you could
- 32:14just try going on a couple of rides, you know, maybe or a
- 32:17State Fair or something like that where you can just kind of
- 32:20test out what kind of rides maybe they like or don't or
- 32:23those kinds of things. I think that's really wise,
- 32:25especially if they've never been to Disney before.
- 32:27And because Disney is such a it is an investment of time and
- 32:33energy and money and all the things.
- 32:34So knowing in advance how they might handle things gives you a
- 32:37game plan for like, OK, here's how.
- 32:40Here's how we should do this. So I love that advice.
- 32:42Christina, thanks for sharing that.
- 32:44Yeah, like I said, I literally was like, Oh yeah, that's good
- 32:46copy paste. Yeah, Oh yeah.
- 32:52And Britney says VR is kind of fun to try ahead of time.
- 32:55Like virtual reality. My kids got so excited with
- 32:58virtual virtual reality ride. POVPOV is for Disney, which we
- 33:02talked about POV watching them, but I never really thought like
- 33:07a virtual reality one would be really cool, like, you know, be
- 33:10fully immersed into it. That's the idea and that may
- 33:13help you determine like if we're going to talk about here
- 33:16shortly, rides to watch out for. But some of them screens can be
- 33:20an issue, so giving them something like that could
- 33:23definitely help. Again, test the waters on that.
- 33:27Yeah, because screens is a whole almost a different thing than
- 33:30motion. So shall we shall we transition
- 33:33to that that topic here? Because we have different rides
- 33:37to watch out for in all of the Disney parks, specifically which
- 33:42ones you might need to have a game plan for and what kind of
- 33:45motion it is. So Jackie, do you want to help
- 33:48us dive in? Yes.
- 33:49So there we were kind of debating about the best way to
- 33:53give you guys this information. So we kind of arranged it in the
- 33:57best way. We thought that it would be
- 33:58helpful because there are several different types of
- 34:00motion sickness. You know, you may be someone
- 34:03that those drops where your your stomach kind of bottoms out
- 34:06really gets you. It may be the spinning motion,
- 34:08it may be screens or 3D things. You know, there's lots of
- 34:11different versions of motion sickness so to speak.
- 34:15So we're going to kind of give you guys some different lists
- 34:17and you may hear duplicate rides on some of them because some of
- 34:20them hit more than one category when it comes to motion sickness
- 34:23unfortunately. But we are going to touch on all
- 34:27the US parks and a little bit on Disneyland Paris just because we
- 34:30can and we figure that will be helpful information because.
- 34:33Because we can, Because we can. And because it's helpful.
- 34:37Yes. For.
- 34:38Sure, absolutely. So I think we're going to start
- 34:41with Disneyland. So we're going to start out in
- 34:44California. So in Disneyland.
- 34:47A couple just general motion rides to look out for when it
- 34:52comes to just overall motion sickness, and a lot of these
- 34:55also have that kind of dropping sensation.
- 34:57So Big Thunder, Mountain Chippendales gadget coaster, the
- 35:02Indiana Jones Adventure, the Matterhorn Bobsleds, Space
- 35:05Mountain Pirates out there because of the drops.
- 35:07Those can possibly bother some people.
- 35:10Yep, and Rise of the Resistance as well.
- 35:14For spinning rides in Disneyland, we've got Astro
- 35:18Orbiter, Mad Tea Party, Dumbo, the King Arthur Carousel and I
- 35:22put in their Runaway Railway because there are a couple
- 35:25sections in Runaway Railway where there's there's some
- 35:27spinning motion there, so. Yeah, for sure.
- 35:30It just kind of, yeah, yeah, just a little bit, not a lot,
- 35:34right, But it's there. And that may be one that you
- 35:35could get away with just kind of closing your eyes when it starts
- 35:38to spin, and then when it stops spinning, you can open them
- 35:40again, because it's it's not the whole ride with that one.
- 35:43And there is like a screen to where it feels like there's
- 35:46motion on the screen even though you're not being jostled at all.
- 35:48So that could also be a time for that.
- 35:51Yeah, so let's talk about other screen rides.
- 35:53At Disneyland, Smugglers, Run Start Force and Rise of the
- 35:57Resistance. So unfortunately, if you are a
- 35:59screen person, Star Wars area is just not for you.
- 36:04I know they have a lot of like, motion simulators, Star Wars,
- 36:09like, how do we point you in space?
- 36:11Just put a motion simulator on it.
- 36:13We're good. That's pretty much how that
- 36:15happened. Yeah, pretty much and.
- 36:19I also want to say that when I, you were the one that originally
- 36:23compiled this list of rides. Thank you very much for that,
- 36:25because you're such a sweetheart.
- 36:27But the when I saw the carousel, my brain was like that kind of
- 36:33this goes up and down. And then I was like, oh, it does
- 36:36go around. The whole thing spins, Kate.
- 36:41My brain was like, it's just up and down motion.
- 36:43I was like, Oh no, this is this is around.
- 36:46They're all around. Every single carousel is always
- 36:49around. Yep.
- 36:50I know, and it was. And honestly, it was hard for me
- 36:53to kind of compile the list because I'm not someone who
- 36:56deals with it directly. So I was just like, well, I
- 36:58literally, I literally went to the app and pulled up the entire
- 37:02list of attractions and was like went through each one and was
- 37:05like using my best judgement. So if I forgot any, I'm really
- 37:09sorry. Or if I did, please let me know.
- 37:12Let us know in the comments if you're like, oh, this one too.
- 37:14Because again, everyone's different.
- 37:16That's. The other name, Merry Go Round.
- 37:21That's true, yes. I don't know where my brain was.
- 37:24I will say that you wouldn't think that Chippendale's Gadget
- 37:27coaster would be one that would be on this list because it's
- 37:29like, it's like a little kids coaster.
- 37:32It's like what, 23 seconds long? It's like one of the shortest
- 37:35rides in dizzy history. But I I was reading through just
- 37:39some I was, I was crawling Reddit because I was just like
- 37:42interested to see what other people thought about this topic.
- 37:45And there was some dad that was just like, yeah, I got motion
- 37:49sick on Gadget's Go coaster. And that's how I knew I was
- 37:51getting old. And I was like, I was like, Oh
- 37:55no. So yeah, it is what it is.
- 37:58You can't get motion sick on that one.
- 38:00Connor's got a good question over here Kate, for you, does
- 38:03Nemo's submarine voyage ever count as a motion sickness prone
- 38:09ride? No, I think it's more of a
- 38:11claustrophobic ride. That's what I was thinking and
- 38:13that's what I debated when I pulled up that list.
- 38:15I was like, I think that's just mostly claustrophobia when it
- 38:18comes to that. It doesn't.
- 38:20It really just kind of stays at the same level and goes really
- 38:23slow. So it doesn't, there's no ups
- 38:25and downs. There's no, I mean it kind of
- 38:28like I think the hole might vibrate slightly at one point.
- 38:31It's very, very, very slow moving and it's just if you're
- 38:36claustrophobic at all, just don't don't go on it.
- 38:39It will I. It will make it because they
- 38:42close the Hatch and then you're stuck there for like 20 minutes
- 38:45and it's and you can't get off. There's no way to get off of it.
- 38:48It's you're literally underwater going around in it.
- 38:51So there is an option for people who are nervous about it.
- 38:57There is an option that is like an accessible option that you
- 39:00can go and you can watch it from a room and you can kind of like
- 39:03see the ride through some portholes magically.
- 39:05Like you can see what the ride is without going and sitting in
- 39:09the submarine. So you can always ask for that
- 39:11if you're just like, I just don't know and I'm too scared to
- 39:14try. That way you can still
- 39:16experience the ride without actually having to get in the
- 39:18submarine so. That's a good point.
- 39:21Yeah. Yeah.
- 39:22All right. So let's look at California
- 39:24Adventure again. We tried to kind of divide these
- 39:28out into different categories based on what may happen for
- 39:32them. So just kind of general motion
- 39:36can be you know, motion issues when it comes to California
- 39:40Adventure, goofy Sky, School Guardians, Mission Breakout,
- 39:44which is that really, really big with drops so that up and down.
- 39:49Yep, exactly. Yeah.
- 39:51And credit Coaster Luigi's Rollick and Roadsters leaders,
- 39:55Junkyard Jamboree and the swinging version of the Pixar
- 39:58Pal around can all definitely be just general motion sickness
- 40:02inducing. Yeah, definitely the Pixar pal
- 40:05around. That's the big Ferris wheel
- 40:07because you don't know which one that is.
- 40:09And the swinging cars are the ones that will dissolve a sudden
- 40:12kind of like drop all the way the other side and then swing
- 40:14back and forth. They do put bags where people
- 40:20get sick and like look like air sickness bags.
- 40:22They do stock those on there for a reason and they they do have
- 40:28ones that are non swinging. They do rock back and forth just
- 40:31a little bit, but they're usually not not too bad unless
- 40:34it's super windy. So yeah, but usually, I don't
- 40:39usually have a problem with that, but that doesn't mean that
- 40:41somebody else wouldn't. So just know that they rock a
- 40:43little bit. And your non swinging one is is
- 40:45pretty much a standard Ferris wheel.
- 40:47It's just a very large Ferris wheel.
- 40:49So keep that in mind. You know, we're not talking,
- 40:52we're not talking. If you're scared of heights or
- 40:54anything like that, but just motion sickness wise, you should
- 40:57be OK. And then spinning sensations at
- 41:00California Adventure, the Golden Zephyr, the Silly Symphony
- 41:03Swings and the Critter Carousel. Again, it's just that round
- 41:07spinning motion. They're not super big thrill
- 41:10rides, they're just, they just have that spinning motion to
- 41:14them, so. Yeah, I think, Christina says.
- 41:17So in other words, the shorter list would be rides that are
- 41:19safe to ride for motion sickness, yes?
- 41:23Yeah. And it really just depends on
- 41:24what type of motion sickness you're prone to.
- 41:26If you're prone to all of these, I'm really sorry, But take our
- 41:30advice that we talked about earlier and maybe you'll be able
- 41:32to go on a few. Yeah, get that relief fan.
- 41:36Maybe that'll work. And then screen.
- 41:40So if you're a screen person that you have issues with
- 41:43screens when it comes to rides, Guardians Mission Breakout has
- 41:46screens. Now with that one there, you're
- 41:50looking at them pretty like you're not moving as you're
- 41:53looking at the screens. Correct me if I'm wrong.
- 41:55Yeah, it's not like a motion. I mean, what will happen is the
- 41:58whole thing will just be going like up and down and up and down
- 42:01like like like this while they're there.
- 42:03So it's like you're kind of feels like being on a boat on
- 42:06the waves is what it feels like while they're stuff happening on
- 42:09the screens. And then you'll either go up or
- 42:10you'll go down, you know, as the scene ends or whatever.
- 42:13And it's very hard to predict because it's not the same every
- 42:16single time they do change it. So it's hard to kind of like
- 42:19brace yourself or know which section to do what that that
- 42:23it's kind of randomized. So tougher, tougher to
- 42:26anticipate. Yeah.
- 42:29And then as far as other screen rides, Soren again, now I think
- 42:33people have said that the different versions of Soren have
- 42:36a different effect on them. So some have said that, you
- 42:40know, there's two different versions of Soren that exist.
- 42:42There is Soren around the world and Soren over California, so
- 42:45I've heard different variations of that ride affect people
- 42:49differently. I don't know if you think the
- 42:51older version is is less synced to the the motions because it's
- 42:57just older in general and the footage is a little fuzzier.
- 43:00Yeah. And so any time that the footage
- 43:03isn't like 100% synced with your motion, that was going to make
- 43:07you a little bit queasier. I feel like soaring around the
- 43:09world. I haven't encountered a ton of
- 43:12people that have an issue with that version.
- 43:14That's also what I found and I asked our good friend Becca, who
- 43:18I I know has motion sickness, and she said that the the
- 43:21biggest issue she had is the one where they go over the freeway.
- 43:25Yeah, That one's so, yeah. So there we go.
- 43:29So if you're if you're worried about Soren, seems like over
- 43:34California has more issues than around the world.
- 43:37Yeah, probably because it's older technology.
- 43:39Yeah. And and now I will say both of
- 43:42them are not always available at whichever coast you're going to
- 43:46because we'll talk about soaring again when we get to Epcot.
- 43:48So like right now at Epcot, on a Hop Coast for a minute at Epcot
- 43:53we have Soaring Over California currently, but it's not a that's
- 43:58not the permanent one that's there.
- 44:00It's usually soaring around the world.
- 44:03Yeah, they kind of switch them out with like whatever festival
- 44:06is happening. So to check before you go.
- 44:09And in California Adventure, right now, you guys have soaring
- 44:12around the world, I believe. Yeah, I feel like it's late in
- 44:15the spring. I know they hand out oranges
- 44:17when they do it because of the orange scent and soaring over
- 44:19California there. It's always like a promotion
- 44:21where they give you an orange, like a cutie, but amazing.
- 44:25Yeah, it's. I can't remember which festival
- 44:27it is, but one of the festivals they bring it back for that one
- 44:30every year it seems like at least for the last couple years.
- 44:33Yeah. So again, when you're looking at
- 44:35Soren, see which video you're going to see and then maybe make
- 44:38your decision based on that Other screens at California
- 44:42Adventure, web Slinger stuff that does have screens.
- 44:44I put Philharmagic on there because it is a 3D experience
- 44:47and if you have issues with 3D, that could bother you.
- 44:51I know people who 3D gives them like massive headaches, and so
- 44:56it could. Could bother you with that.
- 44:58Same with Toy Story, Midway Mania on that as well with the
- 45:023D screens, yeah. And I do know some people that
- 45:04just like choose to not put on their glasses for it.
- 45:08And it's a little bit tougher with Midway Mania for that one
- 45:11because it makes it harder to to shoot the things.
- 45:15But the with film hard magic you easily could not wear glasses
- 45:19and be just fine. It would just be, you know,
- 45:21blurry like it does with without the 3D glasses.
- 45:23So, yes, absolutely. And also Connor says, addition
- 45:28to the spinning rides in Disneyland, we forgot Roger
- 45:31Rabbit's cartoon spin, which does spin.
- 45:34And you kind of control it a little bit so you can kind of
- 45:38stop it from spinning a whole lot.
- 45:41But it does, It does have a spinning motion.
- 45:42So, yes, thank you, Connor for that.
- 45:45Oh, Amber is saying. Also the Inside Out ride at DCA.
- 45:49Oh yeah, I haven't been on that in eons.
- 45:52Last time I was on that was when it was flicks, Flyers.
- 45:54They rebranded it and stuck it in another part of the park.
- 45:57It used to be over in Buck's land.
- 46:00Yeah, it's it one. It goes in a circle and then it
- 46:02goes up and down. So they kind of like go like
- 46:05this. So yeah, that one could be if
- 46:08you don't do spinning and a little bit of the drops, but
- 46:10that's very gentle because it's a kids ride.
- 46:12So again, you can see that one before you get on it kind of
- 46:16make a judgement call. Yeah, that's always helpful.
- 46:18When you can see what's going on and you can watch it maybe
- 46:22before you get on, that's always helpful.
- 46:24Yeah, honestly, I forget about that ride because they tuck it
- 46:27in. It's like in the middle of the
- 46:30coaster for Incredi coaster. It's tucked in the center of it.
- 46:33It is like I forget it's there half the time.
- 46:37Well, especially when it used to be in a different part of the
- 46:40park, that makes it even easier to be like it doesn't.
- 46:43It's not there, it's. Like it doesn't exist anymore.
- 46:44Yeah, because it used to be. Flicks.
- 46:46Flyers. So gosh, that ride.
- 46:48Yep, it's there. Thank you.
- 46:51That one, thank you. We appreciate all of your input.
- 46:54That's helpful. All right.
- 46:56Shall we hop over to Disney World?
- 46:59Yes, let's do it. OK, again, here here are our
- 47:03categories that we're trying our best to kind of give you some
- 47:08options of looking into. For you.
- 47:11Kate, do you want to read our Magic Kingdom list since I read
- 47:13all the Disneyland? Yeah, sure, Let's let's do the
- 47:17ones that we're less familiar with.
- 47:20No, I'm just kidding. I know Magic Kingdom, so falling
- 47:23and dipping and general motion rides at Magic Kingdom
- 47:26Barnstormer. Again, kind of like the Gadget
- 47:29coaster. They're very similar, very short
- 47:30rides, but they do have some dips and turns and things in
- 47:33them. Big Thunder Mountain, Space
- 47:36Mountain 7, Dwarfs Mine Train, Tron, and then Pirates also does
- 47:43have one drop in it. It's not not terribly long and
- 47:46not terribly severe, but there is a drop.
- 47:49So just FYI, Spinning Rides, we have Mad Tea Party and Dumbo,
- 47:55the Magic carpets of Aladdin, Astro Orbiter and Prince
- 47:59Charming Regal Carousel which does go around and up and down
- 48:08if you want to think about it that way.
- 48:10And then screens, of course, feel hard magic, just like in
- 48:13California Adventure. So same kind of thing.
- 48:15All right, let's talk about Epcot.
- 48:17Epcot is an interesting one. There's a couple little like
- 48:21asterisks, I feel like when it comes to some of the things in
- 48:24Epcot. So let's just talk about just
- 48:27general motion sickness, falling and dipping, those types of
- 48:31things. So you've got Cosmic Rewind,
- 48:32which is one that we have mentioned a lot already in this
- 48:34podcast episode, Guardians of the Galaxy.
- 48:37Cosmic Rewind is a big one. Mission space is a really big
- 48:40one. A lot of people get really,
- 48:42really nauseous on mission space or?
- 48:44We could come back to that, like just like come back because that
- 48:47has like a bigger discussion. We'll we'll come back to that in
- 48:50a moment and then also Remy's Ratatouille adventure can get
- 48:55some people with the the kind of jerky motion with that.
- 49:00If we want to talk about rides with screens again Mission
- 49:05Space, which pause on that for a second.
- 49:09Remy also has screens Sauron, which we've talked about with
- 49:13the the the differences in those as well.
- 49:16One that I thought was interesting that I saw is that
- 49:18some people talked about then Finding Nemo ride.
- 49:22So the seas with Nemo and friends specifically for the
- 49:25section when you go through the EAC E Australian current because
- 49:29you are in like a tunnel with the bubbles kind of and waves
- 49:32floating around you. So that could bother some
- 49:35people. So that again, maybe just a part
- 49:38where you just close your eyes through and then open it again
- 49:40whenever you come out the other side of the tunnel.
- 49:43It's pretty obvious it's coming. You can kind of see it and it's
- 49:45not a very fast moving ride, so yeah.
- 49:48You'll you'll, you'll be able to tell when it's coming and
- 49:51probably very quickly be able to tell whether or not it's going
- 49:53to make you feel sick. Yeah.
- 49:56And then just something to keep in mind if screens are an issue
- 50:00for you. There are a couple like IMAX
- 50:03style screens for the shows in World Showcase that I found that
- 50:09people had mentioned possibly made them feel a little Vertigo
- 50:13or motion sickness. So the Canada far and wide
- 50:17impressions to France and the reflections of China shows can
- 50:20all just be once to be cautious about if you know that those big
- 50:24IMAX screens kind of make you feel sick.
- 50:27Technically they're circle vision, I know, but not
- 50:30everybody understands circle vision.
- 50:32Kate, I'm over here like it's not IMAX.
- 50:35I said IMAX style. It's not.
- 50:38You did, Yes, you're right, yes. It is circle vision 360°, but I
- 50:46want to make sure that all of our listeners are aware of what
- 50:49in the world that means, Kate. You're right.
- 50:51You're right. I'm just like, Oh my gosh, look
- 50:56at circle vision. I'm sorry, OK.
- 51:02Oh, my goodness. OK.
- 51:03Should we circle back to Mission Space, Kate?
- 51:06Yeah, I do want to mention Buzz Lightyear.
- 51:09We forgot that one in Magic Kingdom because some people do
- 51:12get motion sickness in the tunnel of Buzz Lightyear or if
- 51:15like this, they the ones in Magic Kingdom spin, right?
- 51:18Or is that just Disneyland? They can, but you control them,
- 51:22yeah. So depends on how much the
- 51:23person who's with you spins it. You tell them stops.
- 51:27I did forget there was that tunnel part in that because I
- 51:29thought, I thought about Buzz Lightyear.
- 51:30But I was like, well, you control it so you can decide how
- 51:33much you, you know, get jostled side to side.
- 51:35But that's true, there is a tunnel in that one as well.
- 51:38Yeah, yeah. Let's talk about Mission Space.
- 51:42I feel like everybody's been waiting for this moment, the
- 51:44whole episode. So it's finally arrived.
- 51:47Here we are at Mission Space, and the thing to know about
- 51:51Mission Space is it's not a traditional thrill ride like
- 51:56most of the other rides you experience in Disney.
- 51:58It is kind of like what they use to train astronauts to go to
- 52:03space and they put you in this little like capsule and then
- 52:06they spin it really fast until you feel weightless.
- 52:11So it is a spinning, an extreme spinning.
- 52:14If you go on the orange side, I believe the green side doesn't
- 52:18have the same kind of spinning effects or it's lesser to
- 52:21lesser. To green, I think it's lesser,
- 52:23there is still a little bit of that, but it's significantly
- 52:26less, yeah so. I went on Mission Space once.
- 52:32I didn't know much about it. This was a long time ago because
- 52:37I was still fairly new to Disney World.
- 52:39This was like an over a decade ago.
- 52:43And so I was like, oh, like, I'm good with roller coasters, so
- 52:46I'll be fine to go on the Orange side.
- 52:48That was a huge mistake for me. Huge because I got, I mean I
- 52:54luckily I I kept it in, but I was really, really nauseous and
- 52:57I would the whole time I was like they're like telling me I
- 53:00need to hit some button or something.
- 53:01I have like vague recollection of like if I just hit it, maybe
- 53:04I can get out of here faster. I'm also claustrophobic and the
- 53:07thing comes in like like this, like it's like right next to
- 53:10your face. It's so tiny.
- 53:13So it was like a nightmare for me.
- 53:15So I will never ever go on that ride, even on the green side
- 53:18again. I it actually both me and my
- 53:20husband. My husband does not really
- 53:21suffer from motion sickness at all.
- 53:24It knocked us out so badly. It was the morning in Epcot.
- 53:27We had to go back and we slept the rest of the day in our hotel
- 53:30because we literally couldn't. Like our heads were so messed up
- 53:33we couldn't function the rest of the day.
- 53:34So it took us out for a whole Disney day.
- 53:37So if you have motion sickness, my best advice is to don't go on
- 53:40the orange side. Maybe go on the green side if
- 53:43you've prepared, maybe. But I don't even recommend that.
- 53:46No, don't go on it. It is like that's not a ride for
- 53:49me. No.
- 53:50There. I feel like it like we talked
- 53:52about the different categories of motion sickness.
- 53:55It checks all the boxes and then some.
- 53:57Yeah, every single. So unless you like foolproof,
- 54:00know that your prep will make you not motion sick, then you
- 54:08could try the green. But maybe try it towards the end
- 54:11of the day or like right before you're going to take a break at
- 54:13your hotel. So that way you can go back and
- 54:15lay down if you need to. Because yeah, I don't even
- 54:17suffer from motion sickness and I have not even done the orange
- 54:20side. I've done the green side and it
- 54:23Nope, it makes it gives me a headache every time I do it.
- 54:25Yeah, it's awful. It's awful.
- 54:28I was like, why would I do this? For fun.
- 54:31This is not fun. I think they do also have motion
- 54:34sickness bags in the orange side of mission space as well.
- 54:38I didn't know that at the time, though, but they definitely have
- 54:40like a lot of trash cans. After you get off of the ride,
- 54:43that's always an indication of what that writes about how many
- 54:47trash cans are available at the end.
- 54:49And if they are open on the top or not, yes that is the other
- 54:54indicator because you will find all of the trash cans in the
- 54:58exit queue area of Guardians at Epcot all have open.
- 55:04Tops. Yeah.
- 55:05For that purpose, yeah. There's a lot of people that are
- 55:08affected by Cosmic Rewind. They really struggle with that
- 55:12for sure. So yeah, Mission Space just
- 55:15don't. Just.
- 55:16That's our advice. Just don't.
- 55:19It looks like we might have forgotten a few rides, Jackie.
- 55:22If we have one. Feel free for Epcot.
- 55:26Sherry says it's frozen ever After effect you since it goes
- 55:29backwards and I do. I don't do backwards rides much
- 55:35but it's like it doesn't. It's not long enough to affect
- 55:38me I guess, and like the IT does go backwards though, and rather
- 55:43quickly for a short period. So if any backwards motion
- 55:46bothers you, maybe don't do that.
- 55:49It's like Everest for me is like that, Like the backwards is
- 55:52really, really tough. But and it does have a drop
- 55:55which so I did forget that on my my falling motion list.
- 55:59So thank you. Like I said, I may have
- 56:01forgotten some. Yeah, yeah, everybody.
- 56:03Everybody's talking about Cosmic too.
- 56:06Yeah, Cosmic is, is, is a tough one.
- 56:08It's it's tough because everybody wants to go on it
- 56:10because it's a super cool ride. Like it's really fun.
- 56:13But it is a challenge for those who have emotion sickness.
- 56:18Yes, prepare. Yes, it is you.
- 56:20Have you really got it? You.
- 56:22That is one that you really, truly got to know what works for
- 56:24you before you go on it or do it at the very end.
- 56:28Yeah, I finally told my kids that we're going to Disney, by
- 56:31the way. And my my daughter is has a lot
- 56:34of anxiety about going on that ride because she doesn't want to
- 56:36get sick. So maybe I'll share this episode
- 56:39with her. Here's all your options.
- 56:44Shall we talk about Hollywood studios?
- 56:47Yes, let's do it. OK, Hollywood Studios, I'm, I'm
- 56:51just going to, I'm just going to throw this this out there.
- 56:54It's a really rough park for motion sickness.
- 56:59There's a lot of thrill rides. And even some of the not so
- 57:03thrill rides are you could still have issues.
- 57:06So let's just talk about what issues each of the ride has.
- 57:11Brace yourself. All right, so we do have the the
- 57:15falling and the dipping of the Tower of Terror.
- 57:17If you don't know what Tower of Terror is, it's an it pulls you
- 57:20down faster than an elevator normally would fall.
- 57:23So and then it will pull you back up and then back down and
- 57:26then back up and back down and a lot of times so and up and.
- 57:28Down, up and down. So yeah, it's definitely that
- 57:32sensation if you're on an airplane and the plane drops for
- 57:36turbulence, has kind of got that sensation to it.
- 57:38So yeah, it's that's a rough one and it's worse in its
- 57:43iterations. I don't know.
- 57:45Hollywood Studios probably doesn't have them, but I know in
- 57:48Guardians the Galaxy, the version in California, they have
- 57:52that like Monsters after Dark one that's happens during
- 57:55Halloween. That one's so much worse.
- 57:56Like I can handle the normal version and like be OK and that
- 58:00one it just it's like it's like 3 times more intense.
- 58:04So just FYI. Good to know, good to know.
- 58:08So just general motion sickness. Also some falling dipping as
- 58:13well with rock and roller coaster and slinky dog dash.
- 58:16Those are just your standard roller coasters.
- 58:19Rock and roller Coaster is more of an intense roller coaster
- 58:21that goes upside down. Slinky Dog is a little more of a
- 58:25calmer roller coaster, but still has a lot of those issues.
- 58:28Lots of little Bunny Hills on Slinky Dog.
- 58:31So if that's something that bothers you, just just maybe not
- 58:36on that one. You can see that one though,
- 58:37which is helpful, which we just were talking about being able to
- 58:39kind of watch it. You can see Slinky Dog for the
- 58:42majority of the coaster. So that's helpful.
- 58:45Yeah, I'm rocking roller coaster.
- 58:46That one always makes me feel like when I get off of it, it's
- 58:48like my head is messed up where I have to can't walk straight.
- 58:52It messes with my head more than anything else.
- 58:54This makes me feel like I'm out of it.
- 58:57So something about that. Yeah, and then spinning rides at
- 59:02Hollywood Studios. Aliens.
- 59:04Rolling saucers. I put Toy Story Mania there.
- 59:08I guess I didn't think about it. It's been somewhat, I think was
- 59:12my thought process with that, which I didn't put it on the
- 59:14spinning rides, I don't think when I mentioned it in
- 59:16Disneyland, but it does, It does kind of whip you and spin you in
- 59:20between screens. And then Runaway Railway again
- 59:23like we talked about with the California version as well, and
- 59:28then screens again, all those Star Wars rides.
- 59:31So Smugglers Run Star Tours and Rise of the Resistance.
- 59:36Toy Story Mania has screens, and I did put Muppet Vision 3D on
- 59:40there just because it is a 3D screen.
- 59:42So if that bothers you, steer clear of that one.
- 59:44But only just if it's a 3D issue for you.
- 59:49Yeah, I traveled with somebody once who, like, was so affected
- 59:52by those screens. Like it would trigger migraines
- 59:54for them. They didn't know because they'd
- 59:57never been to Disney before, Which made me very sad because
- 1:00:00they didn't. They couldn't go on virtually
- 1:00:02anything because they they were, they didn't want to go on the
- 1:00:05thrill rides and then they couldn't do the screens and I
- 1:00:08was like not really sure what's left, the carousel, carousel.
- 1:00:15So. There you go.
- 1:00:16Yep. So again, Hollywood Studios is a
- 1:00:20really tough park when it comes to that.
- 1:00:22So just beware now there are lots of shows and other things
- 1:00:27that you can enjoy there if that is a park that you are going to.
- 1:00:32But just be warned that the majority of the rides there have
- 1:00:35some sort of motion sickness warning that I would caution
- 1:00:39you. Yeah, maybe you can do some of
- 1:00:42the restaurants there instead. They've got 50s prime time and
- 1:00:44they've got the drive in, drive in, theater one, sci-fi, Drive
- 1:00:50in. Yeah, that one's really fun to
- 1:00:52do as an experience rather than a ride.
- 1:00:54You do sit in the car, but it doesn't move.
- 1:00:57You need your mood and watch some old clips of old sci-fi
- 1:01:01movies. It's really fun.
- 1:01:03Yeah, yeah, OK. I think.
- 1:01:05I think I got everything in Hollywood studios.
- 1:01:08I think so, but you guys can correct us if if we're wrong.
- 1:01:12So moving on to Animal Kingdom ones for motion dinosaur, which
- 1:01:18I think they put all the warning signs out there because people
- 1:01:21think it's not going to be like scary and you know, it's it's
- 1:01:24terrifying and it has a lot of motion.
- 1:01:26So just it's not like a fun little.
- 1:01:29It is a fun ride. It's not like a like a kids
- 1:01:31dinosaur ride. Then Kilimanjaro Safari is just
- 1:01:36very bumpy, extremely bumpy and it can do a lot of jerky, jerky
- 1:01:40motion to it. And then Expedition Everest is
- 1:01:45just a giant roller coaster and it also goes backwards for a
- 1:01:48significant portion. So it's hard then you can't
- 1:01:52watch the track. So that that is tough for some
- 1:01:55of us spinning. We have Triceratops spin.
- 1:02:00Self-explanatory and then. It's got it in the name and then
- 1:02:06screens we have Avatar Flight of Passage is is big screen with
- 1:02:10with like 3D glasses and then it's tough to be a bug also has
- 1:02:14that 3D experience as well. Yeah.
- 1:02:17And unfortunately, Flight of Passage I feel like is is a big
- 1:02:20one with people getting motion sick because it it's a simulator
- 1:02:23and it's got the 3D screens and all of that.
- 1:02:26But it's such a fun attraction. So like that's one that like if
- 1:02:30you're unsure of, like see if you can figure out a way to do
- 1:02:35that one. Yeah, that is one you shouldn't
- 1:02:38miss. If possible, It's and it's Yeah,
- 1:02:42it's it's hard because you'd be like, oh, I don't want to risk
- 1:02:44it, but I'm like, that one's worth it.
- 1:02:46That one's not like mission space.
- 1:02:47It's like you should should try. Yes, again, know your body, know
- 1:02:51what you're capable of, know your limits.
- 1:02:53But if you're wanting to to save it for one at Animal Kingdom,
- 1:02:59Flight of Passage would be our suggestion.
- 1:03:01Yeah, most definitely, yes. Well, I think that's all of
- 1:03:05Disney World. Yeah, so I think so.
- 1:03:08Again, if we forgot anymore, please let us know because
- 1:03:11again, this is we did the best we could, but everyone's
- 1:03:15different. So some of these rides may never
- 1:03:17affect you in the way that we said they might or all of them
- 1:03:22may. It just really just depends on
- 1:03:24on you as a person and how your body reacts to all of that.
- 1:03:29So yes, if we forgot any, please let us know.
- 1:03:31But in the meantime, shall we talk briefly about Disneyland
- 1:03:34Paris? Let's, let's do it to like,
- 1:03:36relive it in my life. She would appreciate that.
- 1:03:40Yes, I will say for motion Big Thunder Mountain.
- 1:03:44And I will say this version of Big Thunder Mountain is more
- 1:03:47intense than the US Parks like a lot more intense.
- 1:03:51You go down underneath the water to start out in the dark so you
- 1:03:56can't see the track at all. So if you're used to the US
- 1:03:59versions where you can see the track the whole time or most of
- 1:04:02the track. I know there's some short dark
- 1:04:03versions and or dark portions in the US there's an extended dark
- 1:04:08portion while you're going under the water in the beginning that
- 1:04:11is not in the US versions and it goes really fast through that
- 1:04:14time. It's actually really fun.
- 1:04:16It's amazing, but it is harder to see the tractor in that one,
- 1:04:19so just know that it does. It's a little bit more intense.
- 1:04:23Also Indiana Jones in the Temple of Peril.
- 1:04:25I didn't actually get to go on this this last time.
- 1:04:27We ran out of time so I sent the boys to do it.
- 1:04:29I did it the first time I was there, but it's an outdoor
- 1:04:31roller coaster and you'll be able to see a lot of what it
- 1:04:34looks like there. And Hyperspace Mountain is not
- 1:04:37like the Space Mountains in the US.
- 1:04:38It's more akin to Rocky Roller Coaster.
- 1:04:43It's in a goes upside down and it's intense.
- 1:04:45So this bear in mind, it just if you're trying to, if you're
- 1:04:49coming from the US and you're going to Disneyland Paris, just
- 1:04:51know that some of these rides are just way more intense there
- 1:04:54than they are in the US. So and also there are parts of
- 1:04:58the Caribbean does have two drops, one's kind of at the
- 1:05:00beginning and then another one's at the end when the arsenal kind
- 1:05:03of blows up. So just be aware that there's
- 1:05:06drops on that one, just like in the US but in different places.
- 1:05:11There's also spinning rides. They have the Mad Hatter's
- 1:05:14teacups, so same as the US parks pretty much.
- 1:05:17And then the screens, they've got Star Tours as well.
- 1:05:22I'm like, I don't think we did that there.
- 1:05:23I was just like, yeah, Star Tours there.
- 1:05:24I was like, oh, I remember seeing it now.
- 1:05:26Yes, they. Do they do?
- 1:05:30Yes. And then the second park in
- 1:05:32Disneyland Paris is the Walt Disney Studios park.
- 1:05:35A couple more kind of familiar rides there, the falling and or
- 1:05:40dipping motion. They do have a Tower of Terror
- 1:05:43there. Which is more similar to like
- 1:05:45the traditional Tower of Terror, correct?
- 1:05:48Yeah, it's a lot like the Disneyland version more than the
- 1:05:53Disney World. Because the Disney World is
- 1:05:55unique in that, like the car will come out and like move
- 1:05:59forward on that track and then like engage in a separate,
- 1:06:02separate shoot. It's more like the Disneyland
- 1:06:05One where it doesn't do that at all.
- 1:06:06It just goes up and down and that's it.
- 1:06:09Yeah, same kind of motion as the others.
- 1:06:12It's pretty similar to the motion wise for the elevator to
- 1:06:16Disney World. They've also got the Toy
- 1:06:19Soldiers Parachute Drop and the Slinky Dog Zig Zag Spin, which
- 1:06:24their Slinky Dog is not like the Hollywood Studios Slinky Dog.
- 1:06:27It's a lot smaller of a ride. It's not.
- 1:06:30I mean, it's on a roller coaster track, but would you consider it
- 1:06:33even really a roller? Coaster.
- 1:06:35It's like, that's right. So it goes around in a circle
- 1:06:38and then up and down. So it's like a rolling motion
- 1:06:40around in a circle. And that's it.
- 1:06:43That's all it does, just a couple times.
- 1:06:44So I didn't even go on it because I was like, I'm good.
- 1:06:48I just watched it a couple times and the toy soldiers parachute
- 1:06:52drop. If you're familiar with the
- 1:06:55jumping jellyfish in California Adventure, same kind of thing.
- 1:06:58It's like kind of this is gentle, but it still goes up and
- 1:07:00down and kind of, you know, so just be aware of that.
- 1:07:04Yeah. And then just General Motion
- 1:07:06there. They've got Avengers Assemble,
- 1:07:08which Kate, do you want to give us a brief?
- 1:07:10I'm just going to kind of ask you to maybe do a brief
- 1:07:12description of a couple of these for people who maybe you're.
- 1:07:15Wanting that one used to be rock and roller coaster that they've
- 1:07:19re themed so you can kind of know what that is.
- 1:07:22Which is funny because when my son came off of it, he was like,
- 1:07:26that is almost identical to rock and roller coaster and he didn't
- 1:07:30know that it had been rethemed. I was like, good for you,
- 1:07:33recognizing that gold. Star for you.
- 1:07:37But yeah, so it's almost exactly, it's just the theming
- 1:07:39is different. And then Crush's Coaster is very
- 1:07:43similar to Cosmic Rewind. So it has the except that the
- 1:07:49cars are a little bit different because you're sitting like
- 1:07:51back-to-back for two other people.
- 1:07:53So there's two facing this way and two facing this way.
- 1:07:56You're not, obviously, your backs aren't touching.
- 1:07:58There's a shell between you when you're sitting in like a turtle
- 1:08:01shell, and then it spins on the track as it goes through a
- 1:08:05coaster. So just similar to Cosmic
- 1:08:08Rewind, if you have problems with Cosmic Rewind, you probably
- 1:08:11will with Precious Coaster as well.
- 1:08:13My kids didn't like it because it was so unpredictable with the
- 1:08:16spinning and they didn't like being because they couldn't tell
- 1:08:18where they were going to go next with that.
- 1:08:20But it's kind of like being in the EAC and you're spinning
- 1:08:23around in it. That's the theory of the theme
- 1:08:26of the ride. So not a motion sickness
- 1:08:30friendly ride. Yeah, doesn't sound like it.
- 1:08:35Then they've also got a version of Ratatouille which is
- 1:08:38identical to the Epcot one, so pretty much.
- 1:08:42Unless it goes backwards like minded.
- 1:08:44Right. Which we, yeah, we can't control
- 1:08:47that. So, so sorry if that happens to
- 1:08:49you. So it's asked to ride again if
- 1:08:51yours goes accidentally. Back if you have the whole time
- 1:08:54spinning in screens, there's your Ratatouille RC racer, which
- 1:08:58is more of a questionable one. Kind of, because it just does
- 1:09:02like a back and forth motion if I'm remembering correctly.
- 1:09:05Yeah, but it goes way up high and then it goes it's like a
- 1:09:08big, it's like AU track and then it goes up high one way and then
- 1:09:12like those pirate ship rides that kind of go back and forth,
- 1:09:15it's the same kind of thing. So if backwards motion bothers
- 1:09:17you or like you know falling, it's got both of those in it,
- 1:09:22so. Yeah, and then the cars. 4
- 1:09:25Wheels Rally. So that's kind of like alien
- 1:09:28swirling saucers. Or if you're in Disneyland,
- 1:09:31it'll be like Mater's Junkyard Jamboree.
- 1:09:35It's pretty much the exact same ride mechanism, just different
- 1:09:38vehicles. So if the IT kind of does some
- 1:09:42spinning, it does a little bit of whipping you, those kinds of
- 1:09:45things. So I I again, I just looked at
- 1:09:49this 1/2 these rides. I didn't even bother going on
- 1:09:51because I was like, I just wasn't.
- 1:09:53We didn't have a lot of time and I was like, I'll just look at it
- 1:09:55because they're all out in the open.
- 1:09:57They're not like in building. So I was like, oh, OK.
- 1:09:59Right. Watch it and see what you think.
- 1:10:01See if it's worth it or not. And then the screens that they
- 1:10:06have. There again we talked about
- 1:10:07Ratatouille having screens and then Spider Man web adventure.
- 1:10:12You want to tell us a little bit about that one?
- 1:10:13I'm. Trying to remember, is this
- 1:10:16like, did I go on this one? I think it was.
- 1:10:20Oh, it's exactly like the one that's in California, isn't it?
- 1:10:22Like web slingers. Web slingers, Yeah.
- 1:10:24OK, wait a minute. Their their Avengers campus is
- 1:10:27just, like slightly different than the one that's in.
- 1:10:30So I was like, wait a minute. Yeah, it's web slingers.
- 1:10:33It's just in French. I remember you talking about
- 1:10:37that. So if any of you are like
- 1:10:39wanting to know more about Disneyland Paris, we did a whole
- 1:10:42episode after Kate got back on how to tackle Disneyland Paris
- 1:10:47and our tips and tricks for that.
- 1:10:48But I do remember you talking about it being in French, and it
- 1:10:51was a little bit like it was jarring.
- 1:10:54Well, what Is that the the guy's name?
- 1:10:56Who's Spider Man? I'm trying to remember the
- 1:10:57actor's name. We did this last time, I know.
- 1:11:02The actor, the actor, Tom Holland.
- 1:11:04Tom Holland. Let's say.
- 1:11:05I want to say Tom Hiddleston, but he's not him.
- 1:11:08Tom Holland is like speaking, but I know what he usually
- 1:11:11sounds like in the US version, but he's over dubbed in French
- 1:11:16the whole time. And I was just like, this is so
- 1:11:19weird. I think I have a video of it
- 1:11:21somewhere. It was very disorienting.
- 1:11:23I was like, that's not his voice.
- 1:11:25Yeah, well, it's like, so just a quick aside about Disneyland
- 1:11:28Paris. I came across a video of a
- 1:11:30parade at Disneyland Paris and my daughter, like, came up while
- 1:11:34I was watching it. She's, you know, oh, what's
- 1:11:36that? And I was like, oh, it's a
- 1:11:37parade out in Paris. And she they were playing.
- 1:11:42They were playing Someday My Prince will Come in the.
- 1:11:45But it was all in French. And she started singing it.
- 1:11:47And then she was like, Mom, what is that?
- 1:11:53Mind you, she's 5 S like, she has no concept of, like, other
- 1:11:57languages yet. We've, you know, we've talked
- 1:11:59about it, but, like, no concept of that.
- 1:12:02So I was like, well, it's, it's someday my Prince will come, but
- 1:12:04it's not in English. And she was like, what brain?
- 1:12:09Yeah. No.
- 1:12:10She. No.
- 1:12:11And I was like, it's in French. That's the language they speak
- 1:12:14in Paris. And she was like, OK, we moved
- 1:12:17on. But she was just so it was so
- 1:12:20jarring to her that she was just like, mom, this is not OK Well,
- 1:12:26it's really funny that my girls like to sing along to the songs
- 1:12:29that we heard in Disneyland Paris.
- 1:12:30So they'll put him on and stuffed and sing to, especially
- 1:12:33the ones that the fireworks won. But they like, don't really
- 1:12:36speak French that well. So they just kind of make up
- 1:12:38their own version of whatever they're saying, and that's
- 1:12:41hilarious. And I don't ever want to fix it
- 1:12:43because it makes me laugh every time it's close enough.
- 1:12:46Someday, maybe. They'll realize what they're
- 1:12:47supposed to be saying. Maybe I.
- 1:12:50Was like, well, this, the 30th anniversary is over now, so
- 1:12:52they're never gonna say that in public.
- 1:12:53So what do we find? Right.
- 1:12:56That's very true. That is very true.
- 1:12:58Well, I think that wraps up all of the rides for Disneyland,
- 1:13:03Disney World and Disneyland Paris.
- 1:13:05Hopefully that list will help you when you're planning if
- 1:13:09you've never been on something or are going for the first time.
- 1:13:12Hopefully that will help you kind of work your way through
- 1:13:16the rides and decide what you want to try.
- 1:13:19And hopefully some of the tips that we gave you at the
- 1:13:21beginning of the episode will be helpful in your trying of the
- 1:13:24rides. Yeah, there's a lot of them,
- 1:13:27too. Like, I feel like there's some
- 1:13:28things that are new that I hadn't even thought of doing.
- 1:13:30And I was like, maybe there's some new things that I can try
- 1:13:33that would be different than just taking medication.
- 1:13:36I'll probably still will, cuz I know that works.
- 1:13:39And once you find something that works, you're like, I'm not
- 1:13:41gonna mess with that. Yeah, motion sickness.
- 1:13:43People hear me there, right? Like.
- 1:13:45Tread Tread lightly with new combinations of things.
- 1:13:50But if you haven't found something that works, or if
- 1:13:52motion sickness is new to you, which does happen, you know, as
- 1:13:55you get older or you have illness or those kinds of
- 1:13:58things. You know, like there's like
- 1:13:59maybe you could go on something last year that now all of a
- 1:14:02sudden is like giving you motion sickness.
- 1:14:04You know, we wanted to make sure we gave you guys some ideas of
- 1:14:08things that you can adapt and try to allow you to still enjoy
- 1:14:11some of your favorite rides or maybe for the first time that
- 1:14:15you couldn't before. Yeah, any last minute additions
- 1:14:19to our list on your side? I want to make sure we didn't
- 1:14:22forget any. I don't think so.
- 1:14:24OK. I think that was.
- 1:14:26I think we, I think we got most of them.
- 1:14:28I'm sure we forgetting something because that's just how it goes,
- 1:14:30right. Yeah.
- 1:14:31Always. Like you know, I forgot Space
- 1:14:33Mountain. It's fine.
- 1:14:37It's OK We know you know what Space Mountain is, so it's all
- 1:14:40right you do. It is true.
- 1:14:42It is true. Well, let's move on to our Ask
- 1:14:45the Mom segment. For those of you who maybe are
- 1:14:48new or don't know every podcast episode, we end with our Ask the
- 1:14:52Mom segment where we take a question from our Mom St.
- 1:14:55community, could be on topic, could be completely unrelated to
- 1:14:58what we've talked about, and we do our best to give you a
- 1:15:01helpful answer. So our question this week is
- 1:15:06fairly straightforward, but I feel like it's a good one to
- 1:15:08touch on. And we've we've talked about
- 1:15:10this actually like way, way, way, way, way back, like Episode
- 1:15:132 maybe of Mom St. way back, you know, over a year, year, almost
- 1:15:18a year and a half ago. And the question is what is the
- 1:15:21best way to get from the airport in Orlando to Walt Disney World
- 1:15:26property. So Kay, I'm going to let you
- 1:15:29take the lead on this one because I don't typically fly.
- 1:15:33Yeah, and I I'm flying in a couple days.
- 1:15:36So yeah, I think this has changed over time.
- 1:15:41A lot of people, if you haven't been to Disney in a long time,
- 1:15:44used to have the Magical Express service that was a free bus
- 1:15:48service that took you to your resort that doesn't exist
- 1:15:51anymore, sadly. Rest in peace, Magical Express.
- 1:15:56So I think it's Magic Express, Magical Express.
- 1:16:00I always get it. Magical.
- 1:16:01I've always got it. I think it's magical.
- 1:16:03Anyway, the Express is gone. Now.
- 1:16:06You have to go with anyone. And it's interesting because
- 1:16:08this has actually changed since we did an episode about this,
- 1:16:11because there used to be two main bus companies that you
- 1:16:15could take. One was Mirrors Connect and the
- 1:16:17other one was Sunshine Flyer. Mirrors Connect has now acquired
- 1:16:22Sunshine Flyer. So they've merged into one big
- 1:16:26company, which is it is what it is.
- 1:16:29So Mirrors Connect is one way to go.
- 1:16:33It is roughly around, I want to say $36 for adults.
- 1:16:37That sounds right. Little cheaper for kids and
- 1:16:41sometimes they run promotions with kids.
- 1:16:43You know, go free with an adult or discounted with adults or all
- 1:16:46those kinds of things. So you can kind of keep an eye
- 1:16:47out for those. I have found mirrors connect to
- 1:16:50be fairly reliable. You do have to do a shared
- 1:16:55service unless you pay for the much more expensive direct
- 1:16:58service, like very much more. It's like $250 that there's a
- 1:17:03lot more so. There's a lot more.
- 1:17:05It's like way out of my price price bracket, but they they'll
- 1:17:11take you and your luggage and they'll drop you off at your
- 1:17:13Disney resort. Usually it's to the Disney
- 1:17:16resorts. They do service a couple of the
- 1:17:18ones that are around Disney as well, so you'd have to look
- 1:17:20online and see which ones they go to.
- 1:17:23But they they do get you there in roughly an hour ish,
- 1:17:28depending on how many stops you have and what time of day you
- 1:17:31fly in. Sometimes you can wait in pretty
- 1:17:33long lines there if it's if you're coming into popular time
- 1:17:38or if you're they don't have anything.
- 1:17:39But I've never waited longer than like 10 to 15 minutes to
- 1:17:43get on my bus and then maybe another 45 minutes from there to
- 1:17:47my hotel. So I usually budget about an
- 1:17:48hour. Yeah, and keep in mind that the
- 1:17:51price for that is per person, Per person is.
- 1:17:54You are paying per person. So if you have a family of five,
- 1:17:57like eight dozen, you're trying to use that.
- 1:17:58That is, whatever the rate is is per person.
- 1:18:02Yeah, and that is round trip too.
- 1:18:03So you could, you know, in case you only wanted to go and never
- 1:18:06come back, you could see one way that's an option, but you're
- 1:18:11going round trip, so that's why I just give the round trip
- 1:18:14price. Other options is they do have, I
- 1:18:17believe, both Lyft and Uber. I haven't used them there.
- 1:18:20I usually use them in Anaheim a whole lot more.
- 1:18:22But I do know they do exist there.
- 1:18:24And so that is an option. If, especially if you have a big
- 1:18:26family and you want to do like Uber XL or something like Lyft
- 1:18:29XL, that might actually save you more money than taking $36 per
- 1:18:35person, you know. So you have to kind of do the
- 1:18:36math there. You can go online and estimate
- 1:18:39their cost. There's a really great app
- 1:18:42that's called Rome to Rio that I use all the time for when I
- 1:18:46travel anywhere. No.
- 1:18:47I use it for international travel, but it also works
- 1:18:50virtually anywhere and it will tell you the cost of taking
- 1:18:52different modes of transportation and.
- 1:18:54Also how to get there, That's helpful.
- 1:18:57Yeah, it's a free app. Rome to Rio.
- 1:18:59Definitely recommend that one. It doesn't necessarily price out
- 1:19:03Lyft rides, but it'll give you a general like, taxi rate.
- 1:19:06So you can kind of like be like, OK, that's the taxi rate and
- 1:19:09maybe then go and check out Lyft and Uber.
- 1:19:11Yeah, but that one's so you can do that.
- 1:19:14You can do a taxi. I wouldn't probably recommend
- 1:19:16that as my first one. I'd probably go either the bus
- 1:19:19or or the Lyft or Uber or rent a car.
- 1:19:23Rent a car is the other option. Sometimes rental cars can be
- 1:19:27super expensive though. From MCO.
- 1:19:29Yeah, especially Vans. Like if you have a big family.
- 1:19:34Yeah. And I think it it also depends
- 1:19:36on how long you're keeping the rental because I do know and I
- 1:19:40have heard from I believe it was our friend Victoria that told me
- 1:19:43that you can there is a rental car drop off spot on like in the
- 1:19:47middle of Disney property. So sometimes if you can find a
- 1:19:51good rate to for just like a few hour rental, it may be cheaper
- 1:19:55for you to rent a car, drop it off on Disney property, and then
- 1:19:59take a bus back to wherever you're going to go from there.
- 1:20:02So keep that in mind as well to look at kind of some different
- 1:20:05options. And I will mention that Uber and
- 1:20:07Lyft do also both allow you to like do a book ahead.
- 1:20:11So like you can do, you can pre book your time that you need to
- 1:20:16be picked up at the airport or at your resort.
- 1:20:18Yeah, I probably wouldn't do that going in.
- 1:20:22Like I would maybe do that from my resort back to my hotel by
- 1:20:26it's so unpredictable when you fly, especially these days,
- 1:20:29especially like right now in the middle of winter, like
- 1:20:31everything is cancelled and things like that and you just
- 1:20:34don't know if your flight's going to get delayed.
- 1:20:37I I'd say at least 50% of my flights are delayed by some
- 1:20:41amount, you know, and some of them make me miss connections
- 1:20:44and stuff like that. And I fly.
- 1:20:45I fly once a month, so I would say you probably wouldn't
- 1:20:49schedule them on the way out, but they're usually pretty quick
- 1:20:50to get. Yeah, on the way in, Yeah,
- 1:20:53unless you have like a ridiculously early or late time,
- 1:20:56you may have to wait a few extra minutes.
- 1:20:59But even then it's such a busy airport that you you'll have no
- 1:21:03problem. Now I will also just mention in
- 1:21:06there that if you're going to the Sanford Airport, that's a
- 1:21:09totally different story because there is that second airport in
- 1:21:13the Orlando area that some people do go to that does
- 1:21:18mirrors, does not service that airport.
- 1:21:21So keep that in mind that is not an option if you're going to
- 1:21:24Sanford, the other options are available.
- 1:21:27You may wait a little bit longer for something like a Lyft or an
- 1:21:30Uber out there, just because I don't think there are as
- 1:21:33frequent drivers that kind of populate that area.
- 1:21:37Most of them go to MCO, the Orlando airport, because that's
- 1:21:40where the majority of the flights are.
- 1:21:42Yeah, and I know in Anaheim at least I had a Lyft driver who
- 1:21:47schooled me on how to to make sure he's he was saying for them
- 1:21:52in the Anaheim area, of course this is across the country that
- 1:21:56Mondays in particular, but virtually any early morning
- 1:21:59flight, there's a lot of people trying to get to those flights.
- 1:22:03And so they, if you don't pre book, there's a chance there
- 1:22:06might not be a driver available to get you there because there's
- 1:22:09so many people trying to get there at the same time.
- 1:22:13So that I think pre booking is very, very wise if you're going
- 1:22:16to use one of those methods of getting back to the airport so
- 1:22:19that you don't miss your money, yes.
- 1:22:22Yes. Well, thank you to those of you
- 1:22:25who have sent in questions for our Ask the Mom segment.

- 1:23:25Disney details and you're just like, I don't, I can't like this

- 1:23:31doing. She's very organized, very well
- 1:23:32planned, and she will take care of your family like crazy.
- 1:23:36She's not a trip travel agent, but she is a trip consultant, so
- 1:23:41I just want to advocate for my good friend Jackie here that.

- 1:24:08So, so thank you. Yeah.
- 1:24:10And. Today's a big day for you, Kate.
- 1:24:12Oh yes, I did release a new book today that is called What the
- 1:24:19Mansion I See, which is a second book in my Pixie Dust in the
- 1:24:22Park series. It's a romantic suspense that's
- 1:24:24set in Walt Disney World. It's available on Amazon and
- 1:24:29also Barnes and Noble for print, but mostly Amazon or and and
- 1:24:33Kindle Limited as well, if you have that.
- 1:24:35All of my books just became available on Kindle Unlimited.
- 1:24:38I have three now, which is wild. So.
- 1:24:42Exciting. Yeah, but today is my official
- 1:24:44book launch for my new book that's called What the Mansion
- 1:24:48Eyes See. So yeah, very excited for that.
