- 0:11Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to episode thirty eight of Revellio four
- 0:15Speaker 1: February nineteenth, twenty twenty six.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I'm Amy, I'm Nicole, and I'm Tom.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Nicole's back yayyy yay, just for one episode and then
- 0:41Speaker 3: I'll be I will not be here the next the
- 0:43Speaker 3: next episode, so I get a another.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Little break from me. I guess. Yeah, glad to be back.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 0:54Speaker 5: And to today's topic too, because obviously you told us
- 0:58Speaker 5: that you weren't that familiar with the Harry Potter game.
- 1:00Speaker 5: So it's more convenient obviously to have something like you
- 1:04Speaker 5: can you know, bring value to and you know from
- 1:08Speaker 5: your point of view and be like, Okay, yeah, I
- 1:09Speaker 5: think I can, because it happens many times that you're
- 1:12Speaker 5: discussing something it's like like what can I possibly say?
- 1:15Speaker 5: So yeah, But we are continuing today with our discussion
- 1:21Speaker 5: on Harry Potter games. So in this episode we're going
- 1:25Speaker 5: to be discussing the lego Harry Potter games.
- 1:28Speaker 2: But first, listening to.
- 1:35Speaker 4: W W in the Wizarding Wireless Network now for the
- 1:39Speaker 4: latest headlines. So we do have a little bit of
- 1:44Speaker 4: news this episode. So first, if you're following along on
- 1:49Speaker 4: the Audible full cast, audio editions. We're chugging right along
- 1:53Speaker 4: and Dabbled a Fire was released a couple of days ago. Actually,
- 1:57Speaker 4: so we're Yeah, I can't believe that. It seemed like
- 2:01Speaker 4: when we initially talked about it and we mentioned all
- 2:04Speaker 4: the dates and how they were spread out of when
- 2:05Speaker 4: these were going to be releasing, that it just seemed
- 2:07Speaker 4: like so far and here we are already flying at
- 2:11Speaker 4: the halfway Yeah, like the halfway point. Yeah, I'm behind.
- 2:15Speaker 4: I'm still listening through Chamber of Secrets. But yeah, the
- 2:19Speaker 4: good thing is they'll be there forever and to take
- 2:22Speaker 4: your time with. And also Harry Potter Vision of Magic
- 2:28Speaker 4: have announced their next magical destination, which will be Montreal,
- 2:33Speaker 4: which is in Quebec, Canada, So if you are near there.
- 2:37Speaker 4: I've never had the opportunity to go to the Vision
- 2:39Speaker 4: of Magic. I feel like the last place it was
- 2:41Speaker 4: in the States was Chicago. That was maybe the first
- 2:46Speaker 4: location that yeah, maybe the first location they had. But
- 2:50Speaker 4: so I don't know too too much about it, but yeah,
- 2:53Speaker 4: it will be making its way to Canada.
- 2:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I'd love to go there. I'd love to seem,
- 2:58Speaker 5: you know, like something very differ friend from the type
- 3:01Speaker 5: of experience that we're used to, like the Forbidden Forest experience,
- 3:04Speaker 5: so hopefully it comes closer. I don't know where it
- 3:09Speaker 5: is in Europe right now, or if it is even anywhere.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I don't think, yeah it's no.
- 3:16Speaker 4: It's I just went to the website and it's in
- 3:21Speaker 4: I don't know if it's currently there or coming there,
- 3:23Speaker 4: but Singapore. So their website has Singapore in montrail.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:29Speaker 5: But I only missed the Harry Potter exhibition when I
- 3:32Speaker 5: went to Madrid, like by a couple of weeks. So
- 3:34Speaker 5: I was so I was like, oh, I might be
- 3:37Speaker 5: able to go to the Harry Potter exhibition because I
- 3:39Speaker 5: had no idea it was in Madrid. But then I
- 3:40Speaker 5: was like, then I just was there and was checking
- 3:43Speaker 5: the website. I was like the thank you everyone who
- 3:45Speaker 5: joined the exhibition and who visited. We are now closed.
- 3:49Speaker 5: I was like, damn, I missed it. Yeah, but yeah, hopefully,
- 3:53Speaker 5: hopefully soon I get to visit these experiences.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Yeah, well yeah, hope. I feel like Visions of Magic.
- 4:02Speaker 4: I feel like after Chicago, I feel like it did
- 4:04Speaker 4: leave the States, and I don't know if I'm remembering
- 4:07Speaker 4: right if it went to like Australia or something like it,
- 4:10Speaker 4: I feel like it Dixico or yeah, maybe it was Mexico. Yeah,
- 4:14Speaker 4: it like did it didn't stay in the States for long.
- 4:17Speaker 4: But yeah, this is if you don't know what we're
- 4:20Speaker 4: talking about, it's like an interactive like art experience. So yeah,
- 4:27Speaker 4: hopefully it keeps touring and does well. And yeah, it
- 4:31Speaker 4: looks like this Singapore is like they have on their website.
- 4:34Speaker 4: It's their like premiere in Asia. So yeah, but it
- 4:38Speaker 4: is coming to Canada and yeah, we also learned that
- 4:46Speaker 4: has Bro is going to becoming the global primary toy
- 4:50Speaker 4: licensee for the Harry Potter franchise starting in twenty twenty seven,
- 4:58Speaker 4: and with this partner ship, they will develop a range
- 5:02Speaker 4: of products inspired by both the films and the TV series.
- 5:07Speaker 4: And it looks like this is going to be a
- 5:08Speaker 4: multi year licensing partnership with you know, Warner Brothers Discovery,
- 5:12Speaker 4: and obviously it's coinciding with the HBO series coming out.
- 5:17Speaker 1: So it's interesting because it feels like we haven't really
- 5:22Speaker 1: had like a lot of Harry Potter toys since like
- 5:27Speaker 1: the two thousands. No just Lego really yeah, yeah, who
- 5:33Speaker 1: wasn't in the two thousands? Was it Mattel that had licensing.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I feel like it was.
- 5:38Speaker 4: I think so I was.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I was.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Actually when I saw this story, it made me think, like, well,
- 5:43Speaker 4: who had the licensing before?
- 5:46Speaker 1: I remember like the little like figures they would have,
- 5:49Speaker 1: like the little like doll with like some sort of accessory.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Remember there was like the Ginny Weasley one.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I know. Yeah, I just googled it really quick,
- 6:07Speaker 4: and all it really is mentioned is Hasbro taking over.
- 6:12Speaker 4: I mean there's I think that maybe there's been like
- 6:16Speaker 4: after they had if it was Mattel, I think it
- 6:19Speaker 4: was more just random little like no one hold held,
- 6:22Speaker 4: but like licensing to all of it, because I remember
- 6:25Speaker 4: there was like I think it's a if they're exclusive
- 6:29Speaker 4: to Walmart or if I've just seen them at Walmart.
- 6:31Speaker 4: There's like dolls that are Harry Potter like kind of
- 6:34Speaker 4: like a like Barbie Doll type of doll, and so
- 6:38Speaker 4: obviously whatever, I think they just had like these partnerships
- 6:42Speaker 4: or like these temporary licenses for you know, whatever kind
- 6:47Speaker 4: of product. But yeah, this seems to be the first
- 6:49Speaker 4: time in a very long time that we're going to
- 6:51Speaker 4: have like one company partnering, and it seems more like, yeah,
- 6:59Speaker 4: they're obviously to be the primary So I wonder if
- 7:01Speaker 4: you yes, yeah, and those just came out I think
- 7:06Speaker 4: within the last couple of years. And I think there's
- 7:10Speaker 4: like a lot of accessories and stuff for them too.
- 7:12Speaker 4: But hmm yeah, So I guess we'll see. It'll be
- 7:18Speaker 4: interesting to see like more of that stuff come back
- 7:22Speaker 4: on the shelves, and I guess what they come out
- 7:25Speaker 4: with and how they navigate having stuff from the films
- 7:30Speaker 4: and also stuff from the TV show.
- 7:34Speaker 1: What there's Harry Potter, Polly Pockets. Did we know this?
- 7:38Speaker 2: No, like classic Pollypocket?
- 7:44Speaker 4: Yeah, like I did see. Isn't there like it's like Hogwarts? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 7:53Speaker 4: I think they I think, isn't I think it's out now,
- 7:55Speaker 4: Like I think you can get it like Target, Walmart.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I want it. A little sorting hat.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Oh these are really cute.
- 8:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I just I just googled it.
- 8:09Speaker 1: It is Oh my gosh, I need.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Forty dollars, which isn't bad, I suppose, but it is
- 8:15Speaker 4: super cute.
- 8:16Speaker 1: There's a little Hogwarts Express train.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Oh well, actually it's on sale right now ab at
- 8:24Speaker 4: because it was originally fifty four to ninety Okay, so
- 8:27Speaker 4: thirty nine is the price.
- 8:30Speaker 1: I do not remember costing that much better. Were not
- 8:35Speaker 1: Were they like, well maybe ten bucks.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Throwing that ip and the price just goes right up.
- 8:43Speaker 4: But no, it's super cute with the oh and I
- 8:45Speaker 4: do love the little attention to detail, like in the
- 8:48Speaker 4: Great Hall, like with even the little like gargoyle statues
- 8:52Speaker 4: on the side and the plates. Yeah it is. It
- 8:55Speaker 4: is really cute. And the cases really cute with a
- 8:58Speaker 4: little wand handle. It's yeah, well, super cute. Well, excited
- 9:03Speaker 4: to see I guess what has Bro does. I don't
- 9:05Speaker 4: know if I'm necessarily in the market of buying like
- 9:08Speaker 4: Harry Potter toys right now unfortunately now that I'm in
- 9:12Speaker 4: my thirties, but excited to see what they what they do.
- 9:18Speaker 4: So next there is going to be a new and
- 9:21Speaker 4: like actually first of its kind, Harry Potter Drone show
- 9:25Speaker 4: that's going to be called Drone Art Show Harry Potter
- 9:29Speaker 4: not a very like creative name, but it gets to
- 9:32Speaker 4: the point of what it is. So this will be
- 9:36Speaker 4: debuting very soon, actually next month in March, but it's
- 9:40Speaker 4: only going to be for three nights from March twenty
- 9:42Speaker 4: six to the twenty eighth, and it's going to be
- 9:44Speaker 4: at the Mirrormar Regional Park in Miramar, Florida, which is
- 9:47Speaker 4: in the Miami area, which I really wish that this
- 9:53Speaker 4: was going to be there February twenty sixth to the
- 9:55Speaker 4: twenty eighth, because I am going to be in the
- 9:58Speaker 4: like Fort Lauderdale, Miami area then, and so it would
- 10:02Speaker 4: have been really nice, but unfortunately it's next month. So look,
- 10:08Speaker 4: this show is described as having around like twelve hundred
- 10:11Speaker 4: synchronized drones. They'll be creating wizarding visuals obviously up in
- 10:16Speaker 4: the air, alongside the iconic music from the films, and
- 10:20Speaker 4: the show time will be about sixty minutes, which is
- 10:23Speaker 4: pretty long for a drone show, and it looks like
- 10:28Speaker 4: guess we'll also receive little led wristbands that will be
- 10:31Speaker 4: synchronized with the drone show as well. So super cool.
- 10:36Speaker 4: And if so, if you're in the area of kind
- 10:39Speaker 4: of southern Florida or you know, anywhere closer there and
- 10:42Speaker 4: can get there, definitely go. I'm hoping that, you know,
- 10:46Speaker 4: I'll have to remember when this is going on so
- 10:48Speaker 4: I can like look on TikTok to see if I
- 10:50Speaker 4: can find some videos of it. But yeah, hopefully this
- 10:55Speaker 4: is successful and it does well, because I could see
- 10:57Speaker 4: if it does well, maybe we'll start to see this
- 11:01Speaker 4: pop up in you know, other cities.
- 11:04Speaker 1: It's a cool idea.
- 11:08Speaker 4: And then lastly, there's just a few kind of like
- 11:11Speaker 4: TV show update things that have kind of been going around.
- 11:15Speaker 4: So the first thing that I saw was that the
- 11:18Speaker 4: CEO and President of Global Streaming and Games for Warner
- 11:21Speaker 4: Brothers Discovery, his name is JB. Perette Parrot. We're terrible
- 11:26Speaker 4: at names here, but he says that the Harry Potter
- 11:30Speaker 4: TV series will be quote the biggest streaming event in
- 11:33Speaker 4: the history of HBO Max and arguably in streaming period.
- 11:40Speaker 4: And he also said that Casey Bloyce, the chairman and
- 11:45Speaker 4: CEO of HBO, doesn't like JB saying this, but he
- 11:50Speaker 4: thinks that it will be the streaming event of the decade.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Yeah, so I believe it.
- 11:56Speaker 4: I do too. They definitely have a lot of confidence
- 11:59Speaker 4: in it, which I think is warranted. I mean, obviously
- 12:01Speaker 4: HBO has put out some like pretty popular series, right,
- 12:05Speaker 4: and I think they definitely like the numbers will have
- 12:08Speaker 4: to rival things like especially I think of Game of
- 12:10Speaker 4: Thrones especially, But I think that I mean, it's Harry Potter.
- 12:17Speaker 1: It's such a huge ip.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Yeah. I think also too, from like a curiosity standpoint,
- 12:24Speaker 4: like people turn in, tune in when they're curious about
- 12:28Speaker 4: what it will be.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Even people who are kind of mad about it, I'm
- 12:32Speaker 1: sure will contribute to the numbers because they want to know.
- 12:36Speaker 2: I'm still thinking about it.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Tom, But you know you're gonna watch it?
- 12:44Speaker 1: Am I right? Or am I wrong? Like watch it.
- 12:47Speaker 5: I mean, it's definitely gonna peak my curiosity. But yeah,
- 12:51Speaker 5: it's uh, this first season at least, I think, will
- 12:55Speaker 5: be huge. But I'm pretty certain the numbers will start
- 12:59Speaker 5: dipping after the first season.
- 13:01Speaker 2: It's just natural.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Because the curiosity will have already been like.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Or I mean, then the numbers could grow if it's
- 13:08Speaker 4: really really good. This is true.
- 13:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it could happen. But I'm just thinking
- 13:15Speaker 5: about this as you know. It's here's the thing, like,
- 13:18Speaker 5: because other shows like Stranger Things were had this hype
- 13:23Speaker 5: around them, and because obviously you don't you know, there's
- 13:26Speaker 5: this excitement and you know, not knowing what's gonna happen,
- 13:31Speaker 5: and like there's a lot like a lot of the
- 13:33Speaker 5: part that really built up the hype was that you know,
- 13:36Speaker 5: and obviously the ending wasn't really good. But then like,
- 13:41Speaker 5: I think, what what this? I think it's a little
- 13:44Speaker 5: risky to just being calling it the streaming event of
- 13:46Speaker 5: the decade or of it could be the most successful
- 13:49Speaker 5: show of HBO Max of course, But I think it's
- 13:53Speaker 5: just the fact that it's such a known story at
- 13:55Speaker 5: this point and there's no surprise and there's no like, yeah,
- 14:00Speaker 5: just like anticipation for what's going to happen, because we
- 14:03Speaker 5: all know what happens. So I don't know how they're
- 14:06Speaker 5: going to play with that and just be like keeping
- 14:09Speaker 5: people like interested for ten years and just you know, like,
- 14:14Speaker 5: of course the first season does make sense that it's
- 14:16Speaker 5: going to make a lot of numbers because people will
- 14:18Speaker 5: be very curious to see how they handle it and
- 14:20Speaker 5: how everything looks like, and how the characters are interpreted,
- 14:23Speaker 5: and you know, these little like bits that they might
- 14:25Speaker 5: you know, start putting in to fill in the blanks
- 14:27Speaker 5: because there's a lot of time that you're like eight
- 14:29Speaker 5: hours of content. So but then it's like, how is
- 14:33Speaker 5: it going to continue with this ipe being so big?
- 14:39Speaker 4: Well, and I think to that point of like how
- 14:42Speaker 4: how to keep people interested will actually like tie in
- 14:45Speaker 4: a little bit to the next point that I'll make
- 14:47Speaker 4: here in a little bit, But I think that one
- 14:50Speaker 4: thing that it might have going for it in terms
- 14:52Speaker 4: of like I think of, you know, like you mentioned,
- 14:54Speaker 4: like Stranger Things, I think of even again to bring
- 14:57Speaker 4: up Game of Thrones, where over time, the I guess
- 15:04Speaker 4: the way that fans like rated those seasons, like did decree,
- 15:08Speaker 4: like people still came in and watched it. But like
- 15:10Speaker 4: very similarly to Stranger Things, a lot of people really
- 15:14Speaker 4: hated the last season of Game of Thrones, thought they
- 15:16Speaker 4: threw it away. And I think part of what happened
- 15:19Speaker 4: there is like they the first couple seasons are so
- 15:23Speaker 4: great because they worked with the author and they were
- 15:26Speaker 4: really following the source material. And then obviously, like George R.
- 15:30Speaker 4: Martin hasn't finished writing Game of Thrones yet and I
- 15:34Speaker 4: don't think we'll ever actually get the rest of the books.
- 15:36Speaker 4: But then so they got to a point right where
- 15:39Speaker 4: they had to like wrap up the show without having
- 15:42Speaker 4: the source material. There was a lot of tension between
- 15:45Speaker 4: them and George R. Martin, and he started taking a
- 15:47Speaker 4: step you know, or I don't know, he decided to
- 15:50Speaker 4: take a step back, or he was forced to take
- 15:51Speaker 4: a step back whatever happened, he wasn't as involved, and
- 15:55Speaker 4: I think we saw that in the show. We saw
- 15:57Speaker 4: without his source material, without his input, and with the
- 16:02Speaker 4: I almostaid the Duffer brothers though they're stranger things with
- 16:05Speaker 4: the two brothers, they were two brothers. I think too
- 16:08Speaker 4: that did Game of Thrones. You could see they were
- 16:10Speaker 4: then writing it and they were coming up with the
- 16:11Speaker 4: end of the story, and while it was I think
- 16:13Speaker 4: it was still like okay, it wasn't as good as
- 16:16Speaker 4: those first couple of seasons. I think also with Stranger
- 16:19Speaker 4: Things that kind of happened right, where's like we opened
- 16:22Speaker 4: up all these things and then we're like, well, now
- 16:23Speaker 4: we need to finish this, and like we need to
- 16:25Speaker 4: just like hurry rush, kind of finish it. And it
- 16:29Speaker 4: kind of just was like wait, what, Like this was
- 16:31Speaker 4: just a mess when you've had your earlier seasons were great.
- 16:34Speaker 4: I think the thing that's good about Harry Potter is
- 16:37Speaker 4: obviously like to your point of like, we do have
- 16:39Speaker 4: the blueprint already, right, it is a complete series, so.
- 16:43Speaker 1: We do ending you kind of the book, yeah, right,
- 16:49Speaker 1: and they have something to lean on, I guess is
- 16:50Speaker 1: what you know through the whole series.
- 16:52Speaker 4: They don't have to make up their own ending at
- 16:54Speaker 4: the end, you know. And I guess time will tell
- 16:57Speaker 4: to see how long you know, JKR stays on as
- 17:00Speaker 4: a producer and has involvement. But I'm hoping that the
- 17:04Speaker 4: fact that they have the whole story laid out in
- 17:06Speaker 4: books for them, wow help.
- 17:08Speaker 1: And this is the first time the films didn't have
- 17:10Speaker 1: that benefit. So I'm kind of curious to see too,
- 17:13Speaker 1: like does that help, Like are they going to be
- 17:17Speaker 1: able to put the correct emphasis on things knowing the
- 17:22Speaker 1: importance of it later on, whereas the movies had some
- 17:26Speaker 1: of those issues where they had to kind of like
- 17:29Speaker 1: quick remedy something later. Yeah, So I'm curious to see
- 17:34Speaker 1: like this because it is gonna be the first time
- 17:36Speaker 1: we'll see that kind of advantage. I guess.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the thing.
- 17:41Speaker 5: The films did have that level of anticipation and that
- 17:44Speaker 5: like because it was coming out so like one on one,
- 17:47Speaker 5: like the film, a book came out, the film came out,
- 17:49Speaker 5: the book came out, the film came out. So there
- 17:51Speaker 5: was a lot of people who didn't read the books
- 17:53Speaker 5: and you know, there so they just saw the films
- 17:55Speaker 5: and they didn't know what was going to happen unless
- 17:57Speaker 5: they went online. So there was like this whole Even
- 18:00Speaker 5: in twenty eleven when the last film came out, there
- 18:03Speaker 5: was thousands of people, millions of people that were like,
- 18:04Speaker 5: oh my gosh, this ending, and you know, they were
- 18:06Speaker 5: completely like taken a bat by it. And so in
- 18:12Speaker 5: here it's like, yes, you can add those little elements,
- 18:14Speaker 5: and of course it's going to I think the balls
- 18:16Speaker 5: in their court one percent because they can just include
- 18:20Speaker 5: everything and just make map out the whole, the whole show,
- 18:25Speaker 5: knowing how it ends. So obviously they have a lot
- 18:28Speaker 5: more advantage in that sense. That's what they win, I think.
- 18:31Speaker 5: But they're going to lose a bit of that anticipation
- 18:33Speaker 5: that we had with the previous adaptation, and also you know,
- 18:37Speaker 5: having to prove themselves obviously that you know it's worth
- 18:41Speaker 5: watching and that because like we said, like these films
- 18:45Speaker 5: are incredibly popular to this day. People love them. They're
- 18:49Speaker 5: in theme parks, they're everywhere, and it's very hard to
- 18:52Speaker 5: for people to suddenly, you know, come across this new
- 18:56Speaker 5: adaptation that you know, it's not from something that's been
- 18:59Speaker 5: dormant for some time. You know, you have the Chronicles
- 19:02Speaker 5: of Narnia. It was you know, it didn't even see
- 19:05Speaker 5: its whole run in the films, you know, And same
- 19:09Speaker 5: thing happened with Percy Jackson. So I think again, a
- 19:12Speaker 5: lot of people don't read books. They just watch the
- 19:15Speaker 5: shows or they watch the films or so it's it's
- 19:18Speaker 5: a little complicated to see how that's going to live up.
- 19:22Speaker 5: Because yeah, and that's also the issue that I've had
- 19:24Speaker 5: with them calling it. I guess obviously it's everything is marketing, right,
- 19:28Speaker 5: but like calling it like an original HBO show, I've
- 19:31Speaker 5: always had like a little bit of a because it's
- 19:33Speaker 5: like it is original because it's HBO in that sense,
- 19:36Speaker 5: but it's not a news story, you know. So it's
- 19:38Speaker 5: kind of like that's where I have like a little
- 19:40Speaker 5: bit of a conflict with what they keep saying. But
- 19:43Speaker 5: I mean, of course, like we don't know what's gonna happen,
- 19:46Speaker 5: I will tell, But yeah, it's interesting to see how
- 19:51Speaker 5: this kind of starts unfolding as we get closer to
- 19:53Speaker 5: the release date. It was just you know, a year away,
- 19:58Speaker 5: maybe even less.
- 20:00Speaker 4: So Yeah, I think to the point two of them
- 20:03Speaker 4: calling it HBO original too, because that is how they
- 20:05Speaker 4: refer to like all of their shows that are like
- 20:08Speaker 4: made in house. So obviously, like again to I don't
- 20:11Speaker 4: want to keep bringing up Game of Thrones, but that's
- 20:13Speaker 4: also considered an HBO original, and I think that they do, yeah,
- 20:18Speaker 4: and I think, you know, really they're doing that to
- 20:20Speaker 4: distinguish from things that they just have the right to
- 20:23Speaker 4: distribute versus something that they're creating for themselves. So I
- 20:27Speaker 4: think that hopefully, like that is that's more like why
- 20:32Speaker 4: they play into that of like, you know, as HBO,
- 20:34Speaker 4: like we're making the show. It's why it's we're calling
- 20:36Speaker 4: it original, rather than like this is a thing we
- 20:39Speaker 4: came up with. You know, it's still I think, you know,
- 20:41Speaker 4: it's still an adaptation. But at least that's my always
- 20:46Speaker 4: been my interpretation of like how they use that that slogan.
- 20:49Speaker 4: I think of yeah, other shows that they get the
- 20:52Speaker 4: distribution rights too, but they didn't create themselves. But I mean, yeah,
- 20:58Speaker 4: and I guess like to this whole thing we're talking out.
- 21:00Speaker 4: So the next thing I had here on news was
- 21:02Speaker 4: that the actor Lox Pratt, who's going to be playing
- 21:05Speaker 4: Draco Malfoy in the series, did like an interview where
- 21:10Speaker 4: he teased a bit about how the TV show is
- 21:12Speaker 4: going to be showing so much more than the books,
- 21:15Speaker 4: and mentioned that we might even get to see like
- 21:18Speaker 4: Malfoy manner. As early as season one, Pratt said, quote,
- 21:23Speaker 4: you get to see all the teachers in their little rooms.
- 21:26Speaker 4: You get to see Draco at home. I won't spoil
- 21:28Speaker 4: too much about that, but there are some brilliant scenes
- 21:30Speaker 4: at home where you start to get an insight into
- 21:32Speaker 4: how he is. And I think that you know, to
- 21:35Speaker 4: your point, you know, tom of like, how do we
- 21:38Speaker 4: keep this interesting and different and get people wanting to
- 21:42Speaker 4: come back and watch this when you know we have
- 21:45Speaker 4: the books and we have the films. I think we'll
- 21:48Speaker 4: probably really play into these kind of moments, right, like
- 21:54Speaker 4: not the things that we saw in the films, but
- 21:56Speaker 4: the other things from the book that we didn't get
- 21:59Speaker 4: to see poor trade and also like these other little
- 22:02Speaker 4: side things that we didn't even get to see in
- 22:05Speaker 4: the book. I think that that will be their smoking gun,
- 22:11Speaker 4: if you know, for lack of a better term, of
- 22:13Speaker 4: how they can kind of like really capture people to
- 22:16Speaker 4: like stay. And I think like for me, that's like
- 22:20Speaker 4: my main driver for I mean, it's Harry Potter. So
- 22:22Speaker 4: I'm going to watch any any wishering world content that
- 22:25Speaker 4: comes out. But the thing that has me most excited
- 22:28Speaker 4: about is seeing those things that we haven't previously seen before,
- 22:33Speaker 4: and like what other additions we might get. But I
- 22:39Speaker 4: think this quote and this whole thing also like and
- 22:43Speaker 4: you'll see, I like added like a million questions that
- 22:45Speaker 4: came flooding into my head, you know, is I guess,
- 22:49Speaker 4: how do we like feel about this? Right? Like this
- 22:52Speaker 4: extra material? Like, do we think that the show writers
- 22:56Speaker 4: are just developing it on their own? Do we think
- 22:59Speaker 4: that JKR has had any involvement in developing because obviously
- 23:02Speaker 4: in the books we don't see in Alfoy just chilling
- 23:05Speaker 4: at home, right, so that would be extra stuff? You know?
- 23:09Speaker 4: Do we then consider this extra stuff canon? And it's
- 23:13Speaker 4: a whole curse Child debate, right and like and do
- 23:16Speaker 4: we you know, obviously their biggest marketing thing they're doing
- 23:19Speaker 4: here is like, this is going to be a faithful adaptation,
- 23:23Speaker 4: and it still can be right when there's exact scenes,
- 23:26Speaker 4: But how much is that faithful adaptation marketing challenged when
- 23:31Speaker 4: you're gonna start adding in all these other scenes that
- 23:35Speaker 4: like weren't even in the book.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Yeah, that is a little bit contradictory, but I will
- 23:41Speaker 1: say things like this, things like that little tease photo
- 23:47Speaker 1: we saw of Nicholas Flamel, like things like that. That's
- 23:51Speaker 1: what I want from this. I don't want a recycled
- 23:55Speaker 1: version of what we've already seen and what we've already had.
- 23:58Speaker 1: If you're gonna make some thing like this, it should
- 24:01Speaker 1: add to the world and not just regurgitate. So this
- 24:07Speaker 1: is what I want. Like, I want extra little things,
- 24:11Speaker 1: and like obviously I don't want things that are going
- 24:14Speaker 1: to feel out of place or like contradict the story
- 24:19Speaker 1: we already have, but I want things that are going
- 24:24Speaker 1: to kind of fit in alongside the source content that
- 24:28Speaker 1: we know so well. And I want to be able
- 24:31Speaker 1: to see things that maybe we wouldn't see from the
- 24:35Speaker 1: books that are from Harry's perspective.
- 24:38Speaker 5: H Yeah, I think that's I do like the part of,
- 24:42Speaker 5: you know, seeing the teachers in the rooms and stuff like,
- 24:44Speaker 5: I think that's exciting. But at the same time, it's like,
- 24:48Speaker 5: how much would we consider all that canon? Because according
- 24:52Speaker 5: to the actor who's doing is playing Dumbledore, he said
- 24:56Speaker 5: that she's not involved at all, even though she's one
- 25:01Speaker 5: of the producers. But he did speak on it because
- 25:04Speaker 5: of you know, the trans issue debate, and you know,
- 25:09Speaker 5: he weighed in on it and talked about it and said, like,
- 25:12Speaker 5: you know, he kind of like balanced it and said, Okay,
- 25:15Speaker 5: but the story is really rich and she's not involved
- 25:17Speaker 5: in it at all. And I don't know if she
- 25:20Speaker 5: said at all, but she he was like, she's pretty
- 25:22Speaker 5: much not involved with it. So, I mean, yeah, I
- 25:27Speaker 5: don't know how canon this will be or how contradictory.
- 25:32Speaker 5: Doesn't have to be contradictory. I think I think all
- 25:34Speaker 5: of the video games that came up, like even if
- 25:36Speaker 5: it's the card game forgot the name now, but or
- 25:41Speaker 5: it could be Hobwart's Mystery or things like that that
- 25:43Speaker 5: you know that that stuff it enriches the world.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Is it canon? How canon is it? Well? I think
- 25:49Speaker 2: it depends up, you know, to each person.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Uh.
- 25:53Speaker 5: You know, people will take the books says canon and
- 25:56Speaker 5: maybe nothing that was added into the films, like is
- 25:59Speaker 5: you know, the borrow being destroyed in the sixth film Hannon? Well,
- 26:03Speaker 5: I mean it depends, you know, to people who love
- 26:07Speaker 5: the films. Yeah, to people who you know, hardcore book
- 26:10Speaker 5: fans and hate everything that deviates from the storytelling. Uh No,
- 26:14Speaker 5: So I guess it just depend on who watches, right.
- 26:19Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, but yeah, I mean I think it, you know,
- 26:23Speaker 4: it is good to hear it, because you know, I
- 26:25Speaker 4: do agree. I think I'm more like I'm definitely aligned
- 26:28Speaker 4: with kind of like what you had said Amy about
- 26:30Speaker 4: like this is kind of like what you know you're
- 26:32Speaker 4: looking for, and this is like really, if we're going
- 26:34Speaker 4: to redo this, like let's add these things. I think.
- 26:39Speaker 4: You know, obviously the books are limited in a way
- 26:42Speaker 4: by being just from Harry's perspective, right, because you don't
- 26:45Speaker 4: get to see Malfoy at home. You don't get to
- 26:48Speaker 4: see the teachers in their rooms and stuff like that
- 26:50Speaker 4: because Harry is not there, And so you do get
- 26:54Speaker 4: to kind of explore that a little bit more in
- 26:58Speaker 4: like visual media. And I think actually in the movies,
- 27:02Speaker 4: I think the movies were still very much from Harry's perspective,
- 27:05Speaker 4: Like I don't think we really got too too much
- 27:09Speaker 4: outside of like what Harry was like directly like kind
- 27:12Speaker 4: of involved in other than obviously like flashback scenes like
- 27:15Speaker 4: I think during you know, like halfwood prints. But I
- 27:17Speaker 4: still think very much I see those films through Harry's
- 27:21Speaker 4: eyes and Harry's perspective, So yeah, I'll.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Believe very yeah.
- 27:25Speaker 4: Yeah, but I think we'll see more of that in
- 27:28Speaker 4: the show than we got in the films, because obviously
- 27:31Speaker 4: they have the benefit of time, right, Like you can
- 27:33Speaker 4: fit you can fit quite a lot into eight hours
- 27:37Speaker 4: of Team at.
- 27:38Speaker 5: Least the first three books, because after book three, like
- 27:41Speaker 5: book four, they're not going to be able to deviate
- 27:43Speaker 5: from it at all because it's a very long you know,
- 27:47Speaker 5: they were considered to be adapted into two films like
- 27:50Speaker 5: Goblet of Fire in the beginning, so it's not going
- 27:53Speaker 5: I don't think it's going to be much possible to
- 27:55Speaker 5: get that. But for the first few seasons, I think
- 27:57Speaker 5: they have that benefit of you know, just including those
- 28:00Speaker 5: things that we didn't get to see in the films
- 28:02Speaker 5: or or read in the books, which should contribute to
- 28:07Speaker 5: people wanting to tune in.
- 28:09Speaker 4: Yeah, and I guess we'll have to see, like what
- 28:11Speaker 4: those later seasons look like in terms of like a
- 28:14Speaker 4: number of episodes in run time, because I guess if
- 28:18Speaker 4: they you know, if the show was really successful and
- 28:20Speaker 4: they have the budget to make more episodes for those
- 28:25Speaker 4: later seasons, you know, they totally could. I hate that,
- 28:29Speaker 4: Like in the last couple of years, Like do you
- 28:31Speaker 4: remember like ten years ago when shows used to be
- 28:34Speaker 4: like sixteen plus episodes like and then I don't know
- 28:39Speaker 4: what happened that. I don't know if it was like
- 28:42Speaker 4: part of it. Yeah, I think streaming. I think maybe
- 28:45Speaker 4: also like a little bit of like what happened like
- 28:47Speaker 4: with COVID and production and now all of a sudden,
- 28:50Speaker 4: everything is like six, seven, eight episodes, and it's like
- 28:55Speaker 4: we're I'm like, I kind of miss like having twenty
- 28:59Speaker 4: episodes in a season. Let's go back to that episodes
- 29:03Speaker 4: like you know, yeah, yeah, we just don't do that anymore.
- 29:07Speaker 4: And I don't know again, yeah, I don't know if
- 29:08Speaker 4: it's a budgeting thing or if Yeah, they just our
- 29:12Speaker 4: attention span as a species is going down, and they're like,
- 29:15Speaker 4: people are going to fall off if we do twenty
- 29:17Speaker 4: episodes of a season. But you know, they definitely like
- 29:21Speaker 4: have the possibility to make those, you know, we don't.
- 29:24Speaker 4: You know, you don't need nothing. There's no playbook anywhere
- 29:27Speaker 4: that says you can only do eight episodes and eight
- 29:29Speaker 4: episodes only, So maybe you know, those later seasons, will
- 29:32Speaker 4: we see more like ten episodes, eleven episodes, twelve episodes
- 29:36Speaker 4: to be able to tell the story but also give
- 29:38Speaker 4: room for them to like breathe a little bit, because
- 29:41Speaker 4: I think, yeah, seeing those things that Harry is not
- 29:44Speaker 4: there for but a part are the story and vital
- 29:46Speaker 4: to the story is really exciting, and things that we
- 29:50Speaker 4: know happened but just you know, Harry wasn't there for,
- 29:54Speaker 4: so I guess we'll see.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Like Prisoner of Azkaban, I would be real curious to
- 30:00Speaker 1: see some scenes inside ask in prison.
- 30:04Speaker 4: Mm hmmm.
- 30:05Speaker 1: I think that'd be kind of cool.
- 30:08Speaker 4: Or even Seriu Seiri that was me. That was me
- 30:11Speaker 4: combining serious and seeing, but even seeing serious like breakout
- 30:17Speaker 4: and that whole thing right like that would make such
- 30:19Speaker 4: good television. And I'm sure I could totally see us
- 30:24Speaker 4: seeing something like that. So yeah, I don't know. I mean,
- 30:29Speaker 4: I stay excited for it. I completely understand your reservations, Tom,
- 30:35Speaker 4: because I think I do. I think I have reservations too,
- 30:38Speaker 4: but I try to like gaslight myself into thinking I'm
- 30:42Speaker 4: so excited for this. I don't have any reservations, but
- 30:46Speaker 4: but the deep down, I do, you know.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Yeah, but uh, to go with.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Our main discussion theme for this episode, everything is awesome.
- 31:00Speaker 4: That's going on in the movie. Yeah, yes, yes, I'm
- 31:04Speaker 4: trying to think positively, but yeah, I mean either way,
- 31:10Speaker 4: I am somebody who like I'm definitely like ready to
- 31:13Speaker 4: be very critical you know, of the show, but like
- 31:16Speaker 4: I am still excited. And I do think every time
- 31:19Speaker 4: we get these little teasers in these little bits, like
- 31:21Speaker 4: it does add to my you know, excitement and like
- 31:24Speaker 4: you know, as a as a big fan of Malfoy,
- 31:27Speaker 4: like it's excited for me to hear that maybe we'll
- 31:29Speaker 4: get more Draco in the show than we got, you know,
- 31:32Speaker 4: in the films. It's like what Tom had like thirty
- 31:35Speaker 4: minutes or something like that of total run time in
- 31:37Speaker 4: the movies. Yeah, and would love to see more about
- 31:40Speaker 4: the dynamic at home you don't think of our Malfoy
- 31:42Speaker 4: episode and we talked about them, like I'd love to
- 31:45Speaker 4: see that dynamic at home, like, but at the same time,
- 31:48Speaker 4: I don't want to see it because like, are we
- 31:50Speaker 4: going to see like Dobby like earlier and like see
- 31:53Speaker 4: the dynamic with Dobby And I don't know why I
- 31:55Speaker 4: can handle.
- 31:56Speaker 5: That or are they looking like to give Great Go
- 32:00Speaker 5: his arc of redemption from the get go and kind
- 32:02Speaker 5: of like being like taking a little bit of pins, like, yeah,
- 32:06Speaker 5: like what are they trying because Malfo in the first year,
- 32:09Speaker 5: So yeah, and you're not supposed to feel bad for him,
- 32:12Speaker 5: You're you're supposed to you know, So that's risky if
- 32:16Speaker 5: you change that, if you kind of like start putting
- 32:19Speaker 5: these It's very common in series today. You know, everything
- 32:23Speaker 5: is very like, you know, light hearted, and it's very
- 32:26Speaker 5: like everyone's good and no one's you know, no one's evil,
- 32:28Speaker 5: and and so I don't know, maybe it's just a
- 32:33Speaker 5: little you know, maybe it's less like really small scenes
- 32:36Speaker 5: of the kids receiving their letters. It's not probably going
- 32:39Speaker 5: to be a whole episode on Malfoy matter, But I'm guessing, like, yeah,
- 32:45Speaker 5: what wonder what they might want to do without what
- 32:47Speaker 5: do you what they think adds value more than just
- 32:50Speaker 5: filling in the blanks, if it really adds value to
- 32:53Speaker 5: the story, or if it's going to contradict it to
- 32:57Speaker 5: a certain degree.
- 33:00Speaker 2: But we'll see.
- 33:00Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I mean I think that they can still
- 33:03Speaker 4: show him like being a prick and also show kind
- 33:08Speaker 4: of why he is, you know, like kind.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Of we already kind of get that a little bit
- 33:16Speaker 1: in the books.
- 33:18Speaker 4: Yeah, just the way his father kind of talks to him,
- 33:20Speaker 4: and the way like Harry observes, like their interactions. I think,
- 33:23Speaker 4: like especially you know, during the scene in Borgan and Burkes,
- 33:27Speaker 4: like when obviously Harry's there hiding and they don't know
- 33:30Speaker 4: he's there, and he's kind of I feel like that's
- 33:32Speaker 4: the first time he really is like observing Draco, like
- 33:35Speaker 4: with his father. I could see it being moments like that,
- 33:39Speaker 4: but I don't think it takes away from like Draco es. Yeah,
- 33:41Speaker 4: absolutely being a menace in those at the beginning, but
- 33:45Speaker 4: maybe getting a better understanding of like why he became
- 33:48Speaker 4: such a menace. See. I love a villain story, right,
- 33:52Speaker 4: and I love the backstory of the villain and how
- 33:53Speaker 4: they get to become a villain and what made their
- 33:55Speaker 4: villain moment. I think they're much more I've talked about
- 33:58Speaker 4: this before. I think there's so much more like interesting
- 34:00Speaker 4: than heroes, you know. But that's why I like Harry
- 34:04Speaker 4: so much, because he's a hero with like a tragic backstory.
- 34:07Speaker 4: A lot of heroes don't necessarily have a tragic backstory.
- 34:09Speaker 4: They just rise to being a hero. So yeah, either way,
- 34:14Speaker 4: I'm excited and yeah, but other than that, it's been
- 34:19Speaker 4: I think kind of quiet on the show front because
- 34:21Speaker 4: I think obviously they've transitioned more to filming inside. I
- 34:24Speaker 4: did see a story that talked about some Dumbledore office
- 34:29Speaker 4: portrait people that have been confirmed. So I think we'll
- 34:33Speaker 4: also get to see more scenes like of Dumbledore, like
- 34:36Speaker 4: in his office, which will be really nice. Maybe that's
- 34:40Speaker 4: what Locks is referring to. Hear of like the teachers
- 34:42Speaker 4: in their little rooms. Not that I think Dumbledore's room
- 34:45Speaker 4: is little, but but I think we'll get to see, Uh,
- 34:48Speaker 4: that'd be really interesting to see him, like, you know,
- 34:50Speaker 4: having conversations with the portraits. And Yeah, so that's what's
- 34:58Speaker 4: going on.

- 35:27Speaker 5: So for today's main discussion, like we anticipated the beginning
- 35:31Speaker 5: of the show, we're going to be diving into the
- 35:34Speaker 5: Lego Harry Potter Games, which, for those of you who
- 35:38Speaker 5: don't know, is an extensive compendium of Harry Potter books
- 35:41Speaker 5: and films, and it's divided into two chapters, so one
- 35:45Speaker 5: of it it's Lego Harry Potter's Year one to four,
- 35:47Speaker 5: and then it's Lego Harry Potter Years five to seven.
- 35:51Speaker 5: Very straightforward, again, just going straight to the point with
- 35:56Speaker 5: the titles, and yeah, it's heavily inspired by the films,
- 36:00Speaker 5: creating iconic and pivotal moments from all eight movies while
- 36:03Speaker 5: still capturing that broader world building that the books gave us.
- 36:09Speaker 5: So before we start talking about it, like I wanted
- 36:12Speaker 5: to know, like your general thoughts of it, you know,
- 36:14Speaker 5: of the games as a whole, Like what do you think,
- 36:16Speaker 5: what are your memories of it?
- 36:20Speaker 1: I remember getting this for my Wii way back in
- 36:24Speaker 1: two thousand and nine or whenever it was, Yeah, spending
- 36:30Speaker 1: like hours working on this, trying to complete all of
- 36:34Speaker 1: the wizard level thing and then like the the Hogwarts
- 36:40Speaker 1: Crest try and get all my little pieces. Mm hmm.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Was that good on the Wii?
- 36:48Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, it worked really well on the way. Yeah,
- 36:52Speaker 1: I remember it was kind of actually easier I think,
- 36:57Speaker 1: to like be able to point at things he had
- 37:00Speaker 1: to cast spells on because you would just use the
- 37:02Speaker 1: because it was like the Wand with the nun Chuck,
- 37:06Speaker 1: and like you would use the wand to point out
- 37:08Speaker 1: what you wanted to point at. So it was a
- 37:10Speaker 1: little easier than like other consoles and trying to target
- 37:13Speaker 1: where you're shooting the spells. But yeah, for some reason,
- 37:18Speaker 1: I just have a very vivid memory of sitting in
- 37:20Speaker 1: my butterfly chair in the basement, the only piece of
- 37:27Speaker 1: furniture in the basement, and like I had hoarded a
- 37:33Speaker 1: bunch of those like Nutter butter snacks, the cookies, and
- 37:37Speaker 1: they're like in the pocket of my chair. I'd just
- 37:40Speaker 1: be playing like Harry Potter eating my Nutter butters.
- 37:50Speaker 2: How about you, Nicole.
- 37:51Speaker 4: I feel like I don't remember if I almost think
- 37:55Speaker 4: I didn't. Lego Harry Potter was not the first Lego
- 38:00Speaker 4: video game that I played. I don't think I am
- 38:04Speaker 4: a big fan of the Lego video games in general,
- 38:08Speaker 4: Like I think the very first I think maybe the
- 38:11Speaker 4: very first Lego game I had was Lord of the
- 38:15Speaker 4: Rings for like my twods, and I've played like Marvel
- 38:23Speaker 4: like I've played a lot of them. I think I
- 38:26Speaker 4: finally got Lego Harry Potter when I got my switch.
- 38:32Speaker 4: That might have been the first time. I actually think
- 38:34Speaker 4: even before that, I may have had like the iPad
- 38:37Speaker 4: version of it. I feel I remember that and I think, yeah,
- 38:42Speaker 4: I think that was the first version I had of it,
- 38:44Speaker 4: and that was the first the first way I played it,
- 38:48Speaker 4: and I didn't really get into it, I think because
- 38:50Speaker 4: like the iPad version was not the best, like like
- 38:53Speaker 4: having to like you know, drag your finger because like
- 38:56Speaker 4: at the time, I didn't have like, you know, of
- 39:00Speaker 4: video game controller hooked up to my iPad. I was
- 39:03Speaker 4: literally like doing it all with my finger, and it
- 39:05Speaker 4: just is not the best user experience. And so I
- 39:08Speaker 4: think I like wanted to play and I was so
- 39:10Speaker 4: excited by it, but I like fell off just because
- 39:13Speaker 4: of the mode. And then once they released it in
- 39:18Speaker 4: one game for the Switch, I repurchased it for the
- 39:22Speaker 4: Switch and I thought the experience of playing it on
- 39:24Speaker 4: the switch was so much better. And I think like
- 39:27Speaker 4: Lego games in general just work really really well as
- 39:31Speaker 4: handheld games. I do have a Lego game for I
- 39:35Speaker 4: had a Star Wars Lego game for my PlayStation four,
- 39:38Speaker 4: and again, again, I still think it's so much better
- 39:40Speaker 4: on the handheld than you know, on the big screen.
- 39:43Speaker 4: But I just think that the I definitely think the
- 39:46Speaker 4: Lego games are probably not for everyone, right, Like, if
- 39:48Speaker 4: you're like a hardcore gamer, like you're probably not gonna
- 39:51Speaker 4: love them because they're very silly, right, They're meant to
- 39:54Speaker 4: be fun, and like they're really good for children, like
- 39:57Speaker 4: if for if you know, if like if children want
- 39:59Speaker 4: to get into like Harry Potter video games, I think
- 40:02Speaker 4: Lego is a really good, you know, segue for them
- 40:04Speaker 4: before like jumping straight to something like Hogwarts Legacy, right, Like,
- 40:08Speaker 4: the Lego games are a better I think that if
- 40:11Speaker 4: you just it's yeah, I just I think they're really
- 40:14Speaker 4: fun and really silly, but in such a good way,
- 40:19Speaker 4: and they're really fun to like go back to. I
- 40:22Speaker 4: think they have a really good like replayability to them
- 40:25Speaker 4: as well, just because of like how you know, cute
- 40:28Speaker 4: they are. And it's also not like it doesn't feel
- 40:31Speaker 4: so high stakes like I think of, you know, I
- 40:34Speaker 4: think of like some RPG games where you're like, I'm
- 40:37Speaker 4: about to be like murdered by this boss that's coming
- 40:40Speaker 4: at me, and like you don't really have to, I mean,
- 40:43Speaker 4: you do, you know you your Lego's pieces break apart,
- 40:45Speaker 4: and how you like how you die. Yeah, but even
- 40:52Speaker 4: that's funny, right, You're not like, it's not making like
- 40:55Speaker 4: you dying in the game isn't scary. It's like a funny.
- 40:57Speaker 5: Thing and it's yes, and we're going to dive into
- 41:01Speaker 5: that part as well, the comedic aspect of it, because
- 41:04Speaker 5: I think it's one of the major highlights these games have.
- 41:07Speaker 5: They just you know, make you laugh and have a
- 41:10Speaker 5: good time and kind of like take away a little
- 41:12Speaker 5: bit of that seriousness attached to the series. So yeah,
- 41:16Speaker 5: so a little bit about how it all began. There's
- 41:21Speaker 5: not much backstory on it, but basically, like rumors started
- 41:25Speaker 5: happening in two thousand and eight, then there were leaks
- 41:27Speaker 5: the following year, and.
- 41:28Speaker 2: Warner Brothers confirmed the title in mid two thousand and
- 41:33Speaker 2: nine for a twenty ten lunch launch. So yeah.
- 41:38Speaker 5: The first Harry Potter game, Lego Harry Potter Years One
- 41:41Speaker 5: to four, was released in June twenty ten, so it
- 41:44Speaker 5: was first released in the UK and then in the US,
- 41:47Speaker 5: and it later got platform specific releases as well, including
- 41:51Speaker 5: a delayed esp version in August twenty ten and a
- 41:56Speaker 5: Mac version in February twenty eleven, and then the follow
- 42:01Speaker 5: up to it, Lego Harry Potter Years five to seven
- 42:03Speaker 5: was released on November eleven, twenty eleven, in the US,
- 42:08Speaker 5: and on November eighteenth in Europe. So that's kind of
- 42:11Speaker 5: like a bit of a you know, band between the
- 42:15Speaker 5: US release and Europe. Well only a few days, but yeah, still, like,
- 42:22Speaker 5: you know, it looks kind of like a little old
- 42:24Speaker 5: school when things were released like two weeks from apart,
- 42:28Speaker 5: you know, like now everything is so instant, like you
- 42:32Speaker 5: get global releases for everything. And a bit about the developers.
- 42:38Speaker 5: It was developed by Travelers Tales aka t T Games
- 42:42Speaker 5: and published by Warner Brothers Interactive. So something that these
- 42:48Speaker 5: Lego Harry Potter games did is that they kind of
- 42:51Speaker 5: saved Lego Harry Potter as a franchise. So going back
- 42:56Speaker 5: in time, we are in the year two thousand and nine,
- 42:58Speaker 5: twenty ten. You know, the Harry Potter sets hadn't been
- 43:02Speaker 5: as lively as they had in the past, and they
- 43:05Speaker 5: were starting to go down on sales and just you
- 43:10Speaker 5: know the variety, so they weren't at the you know,
- 43:13Speaker 5: cusp of popularity at that time. But these games really
- 43:18Speaker 5: helped spark renewed interest in both the game series and
- 43:21Speaker 5: the physical sets, and then came this boom of Lego
- 43:25Speaker 5: sets that we know today to this day. So you know,
- 43:30Speaker 5: we really should be giving these games more credit than
- 43:33Speaker 5: than that, because I didn't know this back actually, like
- 43:36Speaker 5: I wasn't really much paying attention to Lego at that time.
- 43:40Speaker 5: So but it's cool to see how, you know, when
- 43:44Speaker 5: you do something right and you put you know, in
- 43:47Speaker 5: the effort and and just pull the strings the way
- 43:52Speaker 5: you're supposed to, you can have like this huge market
- 43:55Speaker 5: that's going to bring you decades of revenue after it.
- 44:00Speaker 1: I was just looking up too, because I was kind
- 44:02Speaker 1: of curious about like the history of Lego games in general.
- 44:07Speaker 1: So obviously there were Lego video games in like the nineties.
- 44:11Speaker 1: It looks like nineteen ninety five there was one. But yeah,
- 44:16Speaker 1: the Lego Star Wars, like Nicole mentioned, was the first
- 44:20Speaker 1: of these like Lego and IP kind of games, and
- 44:26Speaker 1: that was two thousand and five. So Lego Harry Potter
- 44:30Speaker 1: came out about five years after they started doing this
- 44:33Speaker 1: like film franchise IP Lego thing that they're doing there.
- 44:42Speaker 4: Yeah, well it's interesting about that too because I think
- 44:44Speaker 4: that in the like kind of I say recent years,
- 44:47Speaker 4: but like when I say recent years, I time is weird, right,
- 44:51Speaker 4: So I'm I don't mean the last couple of years.
- 44:53Speaker 4: I probably mean the twenty years, ten years, right, Like yeah,
- 44:57Speaker 4: nineteen ninety five was yesterday, right, Yeah, yeah, that kind
- 45:01Speaker 4: of thing. But I think about how because I actually didn't.
- 45:06Speaker 4: And it's so funny because I'm like, I can see
- 45:07Speaker 4: my game stacks from here, but I can't see what
- 45:10Speaker 4: I have. I can't remember exactly which Lego games I
- 45:12Speaker 4: had on the DS. I can't remember if I think,
- 45:15Speaker 4: I don't know if I had that Star Wars one
- 45:17Speaker 4: on my DS, but I do know that I did
- 45:19Speaker 4: repurchase it for my Switch when they re got the
- 45:25Speaker 4: word is escaping me like reimagined rework, like yeah, when
- 45:31Speaker 4: they like, you know, clean up the graphics, remastered that. Yeah,
- 45:37Speaker 4: And so I think. But my point of this is
- 45:40Speaker 4: that I think that the you know, it's interesting to
- 45:44Speaker 4: hear how long the Lego games have actually been around,
- 45:47Speaker 4: but there's obviously still some level of popularity there or
- 45:54Speaker 4: desire for them for them to reput out, because even like,
- 45:58Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure technically when and Lego Harry Potter got,
- 46:03Speaker 4: I guess it was technically also a remaster when it
- 46:06Speaker 4: was released for like newer systems, and when they kind
- 46:10Speaker 4: of combined it, you could get it in one pack.
- 46:12Speaker 4: I do think that was technically considered a remastered edition
- 46:16Speaker 4: as well, with like updated graphics and stuff. I could
- 46:18Speaker 4: be wrong, but I feel like it was marketed that
- 46:19Speaker 4: way as well.
- 46:20Speaker 2: But yeah, it was.
- 46:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it was the release on Switch and
- 46:24Speaker 5: it was like kind of like updated. But I think
- 46:27Speaker 5: the official quote unquote remake happened last year when they
- 46:31Speaker 5: re released the games, so it's kind of it's obviously
- 46:33Speaker 5: the same game, but I think they did some tweaks
- 46:35Speaker 5: to some of the graphics stuff, And I haven't played
- 46:38Speaker 5: that updated version, but it's pretty much the same.
- 46:41Speaker 4: But yeah, but I think it's just interesting that like they,
- 46:46Speaker 4: you know, to even to go back and remaster a
- 46:50Speaker 4: game obviously shows that there's some kind of popularity there.
- 46:54Speaker 4: I think obviously it helps that it's like IP driven too, right,
- 46:57Speaker 4: Like I think those games that we're seeing them go
- 46:59Speaker 4: back and master are a lot of IP But I'm
- 47:02Speaker 4: also like excited that they do that because I think
- 47:04Speaker 4: it brings more people into playing them. Like, you know,
- 47:09Speaker 4: because if a game came out, I don't know, twenty
- 47:11Speaker 4: years ago and unless you're really big into gaming and
- 47:14Speaker 4: you're like I want to collect older games, like it
- 47:17Speaker 4: might be something that passes you by, but when they
- 47:19Speaker 4: decide to remaster and re release these things for newer,
- 47:22Speaker 4: updated systems, Like I'm sure there's a lot of people
- 47:25Speaker 4: that play Lego Harry Potter now that like did not
- 47:28Speaker 4: play it back when it, you know, initially came out.
- 47:33Speaker 1: So I think too, like just the general look of
- 47:38Speaker 1: these games helps its longevity, and that like it's very
- 47:43Speaker 1: it's legos, so it's like simple in its makeup, and
- 47:47Speaker 1: it's built and like everything's Lego, so it's blocks, right,
- 47:51Speaker 1: So it doesn't end up looking outdated because it's supposed
- 47:57Speaker 1: to look like Lego blocks. It was like more simplistic
- 48:02Speaker 1: and that's okay because that's what it's supposed to be,
- 48:06Speaker 1: which I think helps a lot. So there's probably not
- 48:08Speaker 1: a ton of remastering necessarily, in like the graphics themselves
- 48:15Speaker 1: is probably just more and like making it.
- 48:19Speaker 5: Like yeah, but I think they did such a nice
- 48:23Speaker 5: work with the graphic part because it's partly it's Lego
- 48:26Speaker 5: and it's literally like Lego pieces, but then part of
- 48:29Speaker 5: it it's like actual three D environments, so it's not
- 48:33Speaker 5: a it's not a Hogwarts built out of lego. It's
- 48:36Speaker 5: not like the Hogwarts set that you see that they
- 48:39Speaker 5: that it's on the market. It's actually like a video
- 48:43Speaker 5: game version of Hogwarts. But they do put like lego
- 48:47Speaker 5: objects and things and cabinets and different elements. Of course,
- 48:51Speaker 5: the students and teachers and all the characters, everything is lego,
- 48:55Speaker 5: but a lot of it is also part of that
- 48:57Speaker 5: three D environment that is you know, I think it's
- 49:01Speaker 5: great because it kind of like it just lures you
- 49:05Speaker 5: in a bit more and it's more immersive, and I
- 49:09Speaker 5: really love how they played with that aspect as well.
- 49:15Speaker 5: So a little bit into the playability and game mechanics
- 49:19Speaker 5: of these games. So if we're talking about levels, it
- 49:23Speaker 5: features a total of twenty four main story levels per game,
- 49:27Speaker 5: which with six levels for each of the years, with
- 49:30Speaker 5: Deathly Hollows getting a total of twelve level levels for
- 49:33Speaker 5: Deathly Hollows Part one and Deathly Halls Part two respectively.
- 49:37Speaker 5: I never counted them, so this is something that I,
- 49:40Speaker 5: you know, pulled out of the archives and I was like, oh,
- 49:43Speaker 5: I didn't know it was at like actually like six
- 49:45Speaker 5: levels per year. So that was interesting because to me,
- 49:48Speaker 5: it was like a lot more. But no, I guess
- 49:51Speaker 5: it's been a while since I played them, but it
- 49:55Speaker 5: does seem like a complete year, you know what I mean,
- 49:57Speaker 5: Like it didn't seem like you were just sing little bits.
- 50:02Speaker 2: Of of of the respective year you were at.
- 50:05Speaker 5: But it just I don't know if it was because
- 50:08Speaker 5: of the cut scenes as well that were really you know,
- 50:11Speaker 5: really well integrated into the into the game. But yeah,
- 50:15Speaker 5: they did a really good job with it. And you
- 50:19Speaker 5: know a lot of what makes these games, you know,
- 50:24Speaker 5: really good at what they're what they do. It's a
- 50:26Speaker 5: split screen co op, which, like we discussed in our
- 50:29Speaker 5: previous episode, was something lacking in most of and for
- 50:32Speaker 5: the most part of the original games.
- 50:34Speaker 2: So you know, here you can just have two players
- 50:38Speaker 2: at the.
- 50:38Speaker 5: Same time you're working doing you know, one is you know,
- 50:43Speaker 5: casting a spell while the other is fetching something for
- 50:45Speaker 5: you or is exploring, and uh, it's it's a lot
- 50:49Speaker 5: of fun, it seems, you know. It's the way they
- 50:51Speaker 5: split the screen is very intuitive in the sense that
- 50:55Speaker 5: it's not a it's not a fixed screen, but it's
- 50:58Speaker 5: it kind of like moves as you kind of like
- 51:00Speaker 5: explore and and move around so I think that's a
- 51:03Speaker 5: very uh, it's a very interesting because that's one of
- 51:07Speaker 5: the things of co op that you're like, I don't
- 51:09Speaker 5: know if it's gonna work, but it does work, and
- 51:11Speaker 5: it's you know, kind of seamless and you don't really
- 51:13Speaker 5: you're not paying that much attention to the what the
- 51:16Speaker 5: other person's doing.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Yeah, if I remember correctly, too, Like you can go
- 51:21Speaker 1: in and out of two player modes, so like within
- 51:24Speaker 1: the same play through of the game, you could have
- 51:28Speaker 1: started a solo and then have someone hop in with
- 51:31Speaker 1: you for a level and then hop out and then
- 51:33Speaker 1: like continue solo. So it wasn't like you'd have to
- 51:36Speaker 1: like start a full new game to do two Playerhi
- 51:40Speaker 1: was nice.
- 51:41Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 51:42Speaker 5: I also played the Jurassic Park lego with my boyfriend
- 51:48Speaker 5: a few months ago, and it was a lot of fun.
- 51:50Speaker 5: And we did the whole split screen thing, and I would,
- 51:52Speaker 5: like you said, I would hop on and off, you know,
- 51:55Speaker 5: depending on on what was needed at the time.
- 51:58Speaker 2: But yeah, it's it's a lot of fun.
- 52:00Speaker 5: It's really it's a it brings a new you know,
- 52:03Speaker 5: a new spice into the gameplay aspect of these games
- 52:08Speaker 5: as a whole. And speaking of this, each character has
- 52:13Speaker 5: their own special ability, so you can find yourself switching
- 52:16Speaker 5: between Harry, Ron, and Hermione quite often in the levels,
- 52:20Speaker 5: so you know Hermione obviously, you know. It's kind of
- 52:23Speaker 5: like the puzzle solving thinker uh and then Ron for example,
- 52:28Speaker 5: in the first three years, he uses scabbers to travel
- 52:31Speaker 5: through pipes and unlock doors or fetch important objects, and
- 52:35Speaker 5: Harry is kind of like the all round lead in
- 52:37Speaker 5: most combat and story progression, including also specific levels that
- 52:42Speaker 5: require the use of the invisibility cloak. So just like
- 52:46Speaker 5: in the original games, they you know, like we talked
- 52:49Speaker 5: about in back when they release Prisoner of Azkaban, they
- 52:52Speaker 5: all have like their ability and you kind of like
- 52:54Speaker 5: feel a little bit of that nostalgic, you know thing
- 52:58Speaker 5: when you know you're reminisces about playing the old games
- 53:02Speaker 5: and you're like, oh, I can switch back between the
- 53:04Speaker 5: three of them at you know, at will and just
- 53:07Speaker 5: you know, use them according to what you know the
- 53:11Speaker 5: mission needs to that in that specific moment. So I
- 53:15Speaker 5: think that was also a very fun, fun way of mechanics,
- 53:23Speaker 5: and unlike some of the original Harry Potter tying games
- 53:26Speaker 5: that we discussed, which often restricted exploration and free roaming.
- 53:31Speaker 5: The Lego titles encourage meandering through hub areas mainly Hogwarts
- 53:36Speaker 5: and diagon Alley, plus transitional spaces like station sections and
- 53:42Speaker 5: the Deathly Hollows Campsite Hub while you know you're solving puzzles,
- 53:45Speaker 5: assembling objects, collecting large number of studs. And for those
- 53:50Speaker 5: of you who are unfamiliar with this, which I also
- 53:52Speaker 5: didn't know, studs are the primary coin like currency and
- 53:56Speaker 5: almost all TD game like Lego titles, and they're used
- 54:00Speaker 5: to unlock characters, bells, and ability. So it's the little
- 54:05Speaker 5: coins and you know, things that you you think come
- 54:07Speaker 5: across its like tokens and you collect just because it's
- 54:11Speaker 5: like Mario when you go and you like.
- 54:13Speaker 2: Collect as many coins as you can.
- 54:16Speaker 5: But this is really this is actually a great accounting
- 54:20Speaker 5: because it kind of like allows you to replay it
- 54:23Speaker 5: just to collect more because the more you play it
- 54:25Speaker 5: and the more the higher you score, the more things
- 54:27Speaker 5: you unlock or characters or it's just a lot of
- 54:33Speaker 5: fun because you know it has that little like you know,
- 54:36Speaker 5: even though it's six levels, they do have like like
- 54:39Speaker 5: you said, Nicole, that replay value just to keep getting
- 54:42Speaker 5: better at it and just you know, like the old
- 54:43Speaker 5: Mario games.
- 54:45Speaker 1: Yeah, and some of them you have to go back
- 54:49Speaker 1: and replay later to complete your Hogwarts Crest. Yeah, you
- 54:53Speaker 1: if you play through it the first time and you
- 54:56Speaker 1: haven't unlocked certain characters, there's pieces that you might not
- 54:59Speaker 1: be to do that level yet, but later, once you
- 55:03Speaker 1: unlock somebody, you can go back and do it again.
- 55:06Speaker 2: Mm hmmm hmmm. Yeah.
- 55:09Speaker 5: So, and now that you mentioned that, I remember the
- 55:12Speaker 5: music at the end of the mission, and which is
- 55:15Speaker 5: the kind of I think it's a quidditch one.
- 55:18Speaker 2: From the first film.
- 55:19Speaker 5: And something that I didn't add to this document but
- 55:21Speaker 5: I wanted to mention is I love the soundtrack because
- 55:24Speaker 5: it's all coming from the films, and they usually use
- 55:28Speaker 5: film specific scores for the year you're currently in. So
- 55:31Speaker 5: you're going to be hearing some Prison of Azkavat music
- 55:33Speaker 5: when you're in year three, going to be hearing, you know,
- 55:36Speaker 5: Sorcerer's Stone when you're in your first year, and it
- 55:39Speaker 5: just really brings this kind of like nostalgic vibe to
- 55:41Speaker 5: the game that it's really nice. And you know, instead
- 55:44Speaker 5: of having its own soundtrack the way the Harry Potter
- 55:46Speaker 5: games did, the way Hogwarts Legacy does they really said,
- 55:50Speaker 5: let's just you know, make use of these soundtrack and
- 55:53Speaker 5: just you know, play along, and it works really well.
- 55:57Speaker 5: It just really immerses you so much more into to
- 56:00Speaker 5: the whole environment.
- 56:03Speaker 4: That kind of makes sense too, because you're like really
- 56:05Speaker 4: just kind of playing through the movie, right, m hm.
- 56:09Speaker 4: And so I mean it it would have been I
- 56:12Speaker 4: would have been interested to see though, if they had
- 56:14Speaker 4: created their own score, like what it would sound like,
- 56:18Speaker 4: especially like being like this kind of like, I don't know, silly, funny, unhinged,
- 56:25Speaker 4: tongue in cheek kind of game like what they would
- 56:27Speaker 4: have come up with. But but yeah, I agree that
- 56:30Speaker 4: I think using the film scores works well for it.
- 56:33Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Yeah. Some would call it lazy that they
- 56:36Speaker 2: didn't do their.
- 56:37Speaker 5: Own soundtrack, but I think they do it for all
- 56:39Speaker 5: of their games, right, I think it's I think for
- 56:43Speaker 5: Jurassic Park it's the same. So they kind of like
- 56:46Speaker 5: film scores and Star Wars I imagine too the same.
- 56:50Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think that, like, ultimately, I think what's
- 56:52Speaker 4: really great about the Lego games from like I guess
- 56:55Speaker 4: a sound design perspective is not even like just the music,
- 56:58Speaker 4: but all the other sounds like, yeah, the sounds that
- 57:00Speaker 4: like the characters kind of make the sounds of like
- 57:03Speaker 4: destroying all the legos and everything like that. I think
- 57:05Speaker 4: that's really like their sound design bread and butter that
- 57:09Speaker 4: So it's like, I think they should focus on that
- 57:11Speaker 4: more so than they should focus on having to create, you.
- 57:14Speaker 5: Know, absolutely a new score. Yeah, yeah, definitely. So speaking
- 57:20Speaker 5: of unlockables, the game is stocked with those, so you
- 57:23Speaker 5: have a massive character roster, from students to staff to
- 57:28Speaker 5: death beaters, ministry figures, ghost creatures, muggles. There is a
- 57:32Speaker 5: total of one hundred and sixty seven playable characters for
- 57:35Speaker 5: the first four years, and there's two hundred four years
- 57:39Speaker 5: five to seven with a combined total of three hundred
- 57:41Speaker 5: and sixty seven characters. So that's a big roster. And
- 57:46Speaker 5: some of them are unlucked wise while completing the story mode,
- 57:49Speaker 5: and the rest are hidden elsewhere throughout the game. So
- 57:52Speaker 5: that also brings a little bit more of that replay
- 57:54Speaker 5: value to it because you kind of like want to
- 57:56Speaker 5: go back to it just to unlock certain characters. And
- 57:59Speaker 5: it's fun because I've even watched one that's spell a Trick.
- 58:01Speaker 5: You're playing a spellatrix and it's it's great, Like it's
- 58:06Speaker 5: it's a lot of fun to just kind of like,
- 58:08Speaker 5: you know, get into another character shooes and just you know,
- 58:12Speaker 5: play from their perspective as well. And yeah, that's a
- 58:17Speaker 5: lot of fun. I think they do that with again
- 58:19Speaker 5: with all of their games. It's part of like their
- 58:21Speaker 5: bread and butter, and it seems to work because people
- 58:25Speaker 5: love to you know, the more characters they have to
- 58:28Speaker 5: choose from, the more engaged they are with the gameplay.
- 58:34Speaker 5: So some of the spell categories include obviously the spells
- 58:37Speaker 5: that you're taught in classes. So each class when you
- 58:41Speaker 5: learn something, there's always this obstacle or something that happens
- 58:44Speaker 5: in the class that's usually comical and so you know
- 58:49Speaker 5: you have to to pass that level. Instead of having
- 58:53Speaker 5: like challenges like you had in the video games, there's
- 58:55Speaker 5: like this thing that happens, this event that you have
- 58:58Speaker 5: to solve and that's how master the spell. But you
- 59:01Speaker 5: can also purchase spells and you can also learn dark magic,
- 59:07Speaker 5: so yeah, and some of the other abilities that are
- 59:10Speaker 5: included are obviously you know, the invisibility cloak, turning into
- 59:14Speaker 5: and in amagi parcel tongue, goblin keys, Mandred handling the
- 59:19Speaker 5: time turner use, and more so, it's very complete. That's
- 59:24Speaker 5: why I say, you know, I like to talk about
- 59:25Speaker 5: it as a compendium because it's very like it has
- 59:28Speaker 5: all of the elements that you love from you know,
- 59:31Speaker 5: the story, but in one game, and it's not restricted
- 59:35Speaker 5: to the play you know, to a specific game like
- 59:39Speaker 5: you had in the first tie in games that you
- 59:41Speaker 5: have like these elements and these mechanics and these kind
- 59:44Speaker 5: of like things that were very exclusive to that particular game.
- 59:48Speaker 5: Here's kind of like you have it all in one
- 59:50Speaker 5: single in one single title. So that's also really cool.
- 59:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think there's so many layers in this
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: game that, like you said, it's just it's something you
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: can play for a really long time, especially with it
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: being technically two separate games but now in one package.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Yeah.
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: And something that you know, we we already touched on before,
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: but it's you know, has to do with the comedic tone.
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: So it really nails it by taking kind of like
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: the darker events of the story and it translates them
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: into more affectionate, family friendly slapstick you know, moments through
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: visual gags or exaggerated character reactions and that you know,
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: classic we were talking about this is the classic near silent
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: Lego storytelling style. We're kind of like, the closest you're
- 1:00:47Speaker 5: going to get to a spoken word is a grunt.
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: You're probably gonna get m mmm. And I absolutely adored that.
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: I thought it was super cute and so funny. So
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: it does feel funny, but it doesn't take away from
- 1:01:04Speaker 5: the story, so it's not being it's not mocking the story,
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: but it kind of like parodies iconic moments and keeps
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: that humor, that humor intact while flying through these kind
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: of like more darker heavy scenes and moments, because after all,
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: it's more of a kid's oriented game, but still one
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: that adults also will have a lot of fun playing
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: and will appreciate. So I just wanted to mention some
- 1:01:33Speaker 5: of these moments that I thought were kind of comical
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: and that I remember from playing. So one is when
- 1:01:40Speaker 5: Harry brings Cedric's body back after the third task. So
- 1:01:44Speaker 5: Cedric is literally in pieces, like we said, when Lego
- 1:01:47Speaker 5: character dies, they're just kind of like disembodied, like there's
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: like Lego pieces everywhere scattered and Dumblore basically comforts Aimos
- 1:01:57Speaker 5: by handling him a little lego instruction sheet to put
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: him back together. So he's like mm hmm, and dumbloir appears.
- 1:02:04Speaker 6: He's like, ah, when I think this is like to
- 1:02:08Speaker 6: your point too, that's a really good way because obviously
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: this is a really like traumatic and like tragic thing
- 1:02:14Speaker 6: that happens in this children's.
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: Story, right, And I think that, like, you know, a
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: lot of kids do growing up do grow do grow
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: up playing with legos, right, And you're used to like
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: taking like having to like sometimes take things apart and
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: put them back together. And I don't think you necessarily
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: like you think of it from the framework of well,
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: my lego piece is just broken up right now. You
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: don't think of it as this lego piece is dead.
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: And so I think that like it's a very smart
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: way to kind of like in you know, and obviously
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: again their children's games, but like, yeah, exactly how they
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: approach these darker topics in a children's game, because I
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: think if I was a young child and I was
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: playing this, like I don't know if I would, I
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: probably would think that like Cedric was dead, but like
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: because obviously I read the books, but like, I don't know,
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: it doesn't come across, right, and that like way of like, wow,
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: this person was just murdered. You're like, oh, they're like
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: pieces fall apart. Here's the instruction sheet to put him
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: back together. I mean, clearly Amos doesn't figure it out
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: because Cedric doesn't come back, and so we don't put
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: him back together. But I think, yeah, it's.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: Just a and it was a very simple instruction sheet.
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: Well, right, because the like the the human characters, like, well,
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: they don't even come apart really like in real life,
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: they're already kind of put together.
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: But you know, yeah, but yeah, absolutely, because he's actually
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: after like in year five, he does canonically appears dead.
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: So obviously he wasn't put back together, but it does
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: open that door of like hope, you know, of just
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: you know, thinking of a brighter day ahead. Another moment
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: is movie death is omitted, so he simply disappears after
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: the seven Harry sequence. Hetwig's death is emitted as well.
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: Good because that was traumatic in the film.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: Yes, yes it was another moment.
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: This one is really bad too, but I couldn't not
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: not include it. So Dobby is not actually stabbed by
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: Belatrix his knife. Instead, he's crashed, he's crushed by a
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: bunch of furniture and his legs are cut off. I
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: don't know how much milder that is, but.
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: Literally, yeah, I don't know about his legs just getting
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: cut off, like if that was like you know, but
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: again I think it's I think it's again. It's you
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: can think of it through this way of like, oh,
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: the pieces are just falling apart and coming up, rather.
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: Than yeah, exactly if we could ever pick up the
- 1:04:50Speaker 5: pieces again, then we'd be able to, you know, relive him.
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: But it's kind of like all it's it's gone now.
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: So and then another moment is in the film, book
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: and video game, Baltimore kills Nate because he believes name
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: to be the master of the Elder One, so as
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: long as he was alive, he was never going to
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: be able to master it. But in the game it
- 1:05:11Speaker 5: is just because Nate eats the last cookie, so againing.
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: Our children if someone eats you take your last cookie
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: at one, that.
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: Is exactly like it's these really dark moments and the
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: absurdity that Lego has, but it's so it's so good,
- 1:05:35Speaker 5: like like you guys, it's kind of like tongue in cheek.
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: It's very It's very subtle too, and and it just
- 1:05:41Speaker 5: doesn't mock the story, surprisingly because people could be like,
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: you know, this is insulting, but it isn't, you know,
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: in a way they do it so with such care
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: at the same time, and something as funny as this.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: Also, he does, you know, eventually pass away, but it's
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: it's never seen, you know.
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: The character just goes away.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. Yes.
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: It even mentions, you know, Ron putting his head inside
- 1:06:07Speaker 5: of a bucket of water just to get some tears
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: off him. Well, he's kind of like in his last
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: few minutes. So it's it's like these very very dark
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: moments in the book and the films get translated as
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: kind of like comical escapes from you know, a little
- 1:06:27Speaker 5: bit of that darker tone and heavy moments that you
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: know otherwise are pretty hard to come by, you know.
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: It's it's a good way of dealing with it, honestly.
- 1:06:41Speaker 5: So I wanted to mention a couple more. One of
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: them is when Series falls through the veil, Harry pulls
- 1:06:46Speaker 5: off his legs trying to save him, and Series pops
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: back out just to ask Bloopin for his legs and
- 1:06:52Speaker 5: then goes back through again.
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: And I could already hear like the noise is like yeah,
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: like hmmm ah oh oh, yeah, it's so good.
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: I struggle with that one a little bit more though,
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: because like Serious is my guy again, I think it's
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: still it doesn't And again too, to your point, I
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: don't think that like I don't ever feel this like
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: intentional mocking or whatever. I you know, always have seen
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: it as a we have to make light of this
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: like tragic scene. And I think because the whole game
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: is funny, that's why also why it works, right, It's
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: not like the game is just not funny, and then
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: when there's death, it's funny. It's just funny all the time,
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: so then it makes sense when the death is funny.
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: But yeah, I do I do like how they navigated
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: this one because it actually, weirdly like still feels very
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: in character. Obviously it's not a thing that would really happen, right,
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: but it still feels in character for Serious, So I
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: can that makes me feel a little bit better that
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: his like his spirit is like still there.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 1:08:08Speaker 5: And one more than I wanted to mention is during
- 1:08:10Speaker 5: the duo sequence and the final showdown between Harry and Voldemort.
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: His glasses land on Voldemort, who politely hands them back
- 1:08:18Speaker 5: before resuming the fight. So again, this absurdity that happens
- 1:08:22Speaker 5: that you know, this humor that you know, that would
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: have never happened in any other iteration of the story,
- 1:08:28Speaker 5: just in Lego, and it doesn't take away from it
- 1:08:33Speaker 5: being a very important moment of this climactic scene, but
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: it does kind of like give it a more lighthearted approach.
- 1:08:42Speaker 5: So I think these are really funny. And the fact
- 1:08:45Speaker 5: that they don't talk, because I know that in you know,
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: subsequent Lego games, they started including dialogue, and I think
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: that killed a little bit of that that special element
- 1:08:56Speaker 5: that it had, because I think the fact that they
- 1:08:58Speaker 5: don't talk and they're so graphic and they're just kind
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: of like explaining everything with little drawings. And it's even
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: when Harry gets sorted. I remember when he gets sorted,
- 1:09:08Speaker 5: he gets like, you know, he's in decisive between griffind
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: Or and Slytherin, and you know, you see little sounds
- 1:09:13Speaker 5: going on. It's a lot of fun, and I think
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: it's attributed, you know, for a large part because of
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: the absence of dialogue. Just those little grunts and you know,
- 1:09:24Speaker 5: happy sounds and just laughs and I think brings so
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: much magic to the game that to me, it's I
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: wouldn't ever want a remake of the game with dialogue,
- 1:09:35Speaker 5: Like I would rather just have it as it is
- 1:09:37Speaker 5: because it just does it, you know it it it
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: does what it's supposed to do in such a good way,
- 1:09:42Speaker 5: and yeah, I just love it.
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: Well and not having dialogue avoids like what we got
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: it universal with the Hermione, the original Hermione, right express
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: Like I just imagine I'm redoing it and adding dialogue
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: and it's just like that and I'm just like I
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: can't listen to this, yeah, exactly, So you just you
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: just avoid that, especially for I think especially for these
- 1:10:10Speaker 4: games where they're like IP based and you like maybe
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: have something in your mind of like how it's going
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: to sound because of the actors. It's just like, just
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: keep the just don't have dialogue because then you don't
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: have to worry about there being a really bad voiceover interpretation.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: Also, legos shouldn't talk like they're legos exactly, so, like
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: it makes sense that they don't come out in full
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: sentences in English or whatever language.
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: You know, yeah, I think in both the Jurassic Park
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: and the Lord of the Rings they have dialogue.
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: I wonder if that's that might be. They must have
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: remastered Lord of the Rings because I'm pretty sure my
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: one for the Twods didn't have dialogue. Yeah, but I
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: could be wrong. Yeah, it's been a long, long long
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: time since I played that.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 1:11:04Speaker 5: And yeah, just speaking about that a little bit like
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: it depending on the version that we were playing. So
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: obviously the DS version of the Lego games were a
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: bit more condensed or weren't as expansive at the console
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: and see versions, so all of the hub options that
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: you have like diagon Alley and you know you get
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: Hogsmead as well hogsaed Station, like you didn't get all
- 1:11:28Speaker 5: of that in the in the console the old handheld versions.
- 1:11:33Speaker 5: But yeah, like it depended on the the console that
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: you played it at, but it was basically kind of
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: like the same game overall, even the iPad version. I
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: was just looking it back because I remember when you
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: mentioned that, I was like, oh, yes, there was an
- 1:11:46Speaker 5: actual iPad version, and I think it was one of
- 1:11:49Speaker 5: the handheld versions adapted for the iPad. So so yeah,
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: that's That's also something I just wanted to mention quick.
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: And one more thing that I want to say is
- 1:12:01Speaker 5: that it offers the chance to explore areas that were
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: unplayable in the main tie in games, which I think
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: is one of the very exciting parts of it and
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: something that I loved about it because you get to
- 1:12:13Speaker 5: not just see cut scenes, but also you know, step
- 1:12:16Speaker 5: into these places and play and explore, you know, and
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: you get like Hogsmeat, Platform nine and three Quarters, Private Drive,
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: Diagon Alley, the Leaky Cauldron, Nocturnale, the Borrow, Grimal plays,
- 1:12:27Speaker 5: the Ministry of Magic. We were never able to play
- 1:12:30Speaker 5: inside the Ministry of Magic, and here you get like
- 1:12:32Speaker 5: a full playable level of it, or even you know,
- 1:12:37Speaker 5: the playground featured and the opening scene of Order the
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: Phoenix right before the Dementors attacked Harry and Dudley, you.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: Get to play there as well.
- 1:12:45Speaker 5: So I love the fact that they kind of like said, okay,
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: what was unexplored in the previous games that you know,
- 1:12:50Speaker 5: we could kind of like draw people in. So they
- 1:12:54Speaker 5: kind of like also included a lot of levels, like
- 1:12:56Speaker 5: there's one that's you're basically playing as Ron and Hermione
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: Harry's Brumus jings in his first quidditch match, and you're
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: just kind of like finding your way up to Snape
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: and you have to overcome all of these obstacles. So
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: it's great because it kind of sees the story from
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: a different perspective in that sense, and it gives you
- 1:13:15Speaker 5: like these this this opportunity to play in different locations
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: that otherwise you would have never been able to. So
- 1:13:29Speaker 5: just some reception about the reception of the game and
- 1:13:33Speaker 5: final thoughts. So the critical response overall was quite positive
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: for both games, especially on the console and perceived versions
- 1:13:41Speaker 5: for the reasons that we talked about about it being
- 1:13:44Speaker 5: a bit more like explorable and bigger and just you know,
- 1:13:49Speaker 5: the scale of it was obviously it allowed more development
- 1:13:53Speaker 5: put into it. Years one through four received slightly stronger
- 1:13:59Speaker 5: overall pray for the charm soundtrack, faithfulness to the films,
- 1:14:04Speaker 5: and the replayability value, and Years five to seven were
- 1:14:09Speaker 5: also well received, particularly for humor and accessibility, but scores
- 1:14:15Speaker 5: were a bit uneven across platforms because we were starting
- 1:14:18Speaker 5: to get more into like the year twenty eleven, so
- 1:14:21Speaker 5: we're starting to get like more versions, so we got
- 1:14:24Speaker 5: like the DS version, we have the PC Splash console version,
- 1:14:29Speaker 5: we have the iPad version too, So obviously it depends
- 1:14:32Speaker 5: on which platform you're playing it in. But yeah, again,
- 1:14:36Speaker 5: like they the humor, the comedic aspect of it was
- 1:14:40Speaker 5: always a highlight. How they managed to navigate through those
- 1:14:43Speaker 5: like darker moments with the use of this comedy aspect,
- 1:14:48Speaker 5: and I like comic relief moments, and so yeah, I just,
- 1:14:54Speaker 5: you know, was wondering if you guys thought like these
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: Lego Harry Potter games actually met fan expect or if
- 1:15:01Speaker 5: they kind of, in their way quietly exceeded them.
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: Hmmm. I mean that's hard for me to answer, because
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: this was like the first Lego game I ever played.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: M So I think like personally it exceeded my expectations
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: because I didn't know what to expect. I just bought
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: it blindly and was like, it's Harry Potter, I'm going
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: to play it, and then really enjoyed it.
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: I remember them being very popular, Like I feel like
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: people enjoyed them.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: Yeah, it's interesting to hear. Yeah, it's interesting to hear
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: that like the first four games kind of you know,
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: have scored a little bit better overall, which in a
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: way doesn't like fully surprise me, Like I guess, I wonder,
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: like what the reasoning for that is? Is it that
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: you know, could it have been? Because you know how
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: originally the games came out in two parts, so is
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: part of it that like people picked up the first
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: one and then didn't necessarily continue and play the second one.
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: And I almost wonder if now that you can buy
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: them combined, if like more people have played through it all,
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: is it, like you know, yeah, I wonder too if
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: it's also like story based, right, like do the first
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: especially the first two like books for films, Like do
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: they translate better for a game? Then later on when
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: we get very very story driven, And then also think, yeah,
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: is like did maybe because obviously the books get darker
- 1:16:42Speaker 4: as we go on, right, so did the fact that
- 1:16:45Speaker 4: the books got darker, And obviously you know, we just
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: talked about how they worked through that. But I wonder
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: if the changes they had to make to like work
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: around that, if that, like you know, people didn't love
- 1:16:57Speaker 4: that as much because I know you mentioned like they
- 1:16:59Speaker 4: score stronger a little bit for like faithfulness to the
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: films for the first ones, and obviously those last couple
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: ones they couldn't be as faithful to the films because
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: there was some dark stuff there. So as you were
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: saying that, I was just thinking about, like just wondering
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: what it was about years five through seven that, you know,
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: maybe scored a little bit lower. And then it made
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: me think about your question of like, did did have
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: like overall, has Lego Harry Potter met fan expectations? I
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: think yes, I think from like a Harry Potter fan
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: base and also like someone who's a fan of like
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: Lego games. But I also wonder if you dive into
- 1:17:38Speaker 4: it more like did certain years meet fan expectations more
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: than other years? Could be another way to look at it, Yeah,
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: which is I think, Yeah.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: I'm just gonna say it's interesting because I feel like
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: the film Companion games kind of fell into that same trap.
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: And I know we discussed lapsed episode that like the
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: first three games are like a lot of people's favorites,
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: whereas the last several kind of it didn't really translate
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: so well to video game for him. So I wonder
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: if it's just kind of the same deal here of
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: it just didn't translate quite as well in those years.
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: Something funny this takes me back to is like a
- 1:18:22Speaker 5: few years I keep saying a few years ago.
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: Again, it was probably two decades ago.
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: I remember because my brother would read the books before
- 1:18:31Speaker 5: I did, and he'd be like, how are they going
- 1:18:34Speaker 5: to make a video game out of Order of the Phoenix.
- 1:18:37Speaker 5: He was like, there's nothing happening, like action wise, it's
- 1:18:40Speaker 5: like such a slow paced book, and it's just like,
- 1:18:44Speaker 5: you know, Harry overthinking and just being like a lot
- 1:18:46Speaker 5: of his internal conflict. And he was like, I remember
- 1:18:50Speaker 5: vividly him saying, what on earth are they going to
- 1:18:52Speaker 5: do with a Harry Potter video game? And I was
- 1:18:55Speaker 5: like hmm, And I was like, I don't know, like yeah,
- 1:18:59Speaker 5: and so it kind kind of like, you know, go
- 1:19:01Speaker 5: to that point of like saying, maybe the first three
- 1:19:04Speaker 5: ones are the ones that were more inclined to go
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: by that gameplay mechanic and just translate it a lot
- 1:19:13Speaker 5: better than the subsequent installments did. Even though I think
- 1:19:17Speaker 5: Goblet of Fire had a huge potential to be an
- 1:19:20Speaker 5: amazing game because of the Triwizard Tournament. After that one,
- 1:19:25Speaker 5: you know, you do get Dumbledoreo's army, but you know,
- 1:19:28Speaker 5: a level the level in the game was recruiting students,
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: So it wasn't like even something that you would be like, oh,
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: let's you know, let's teach them a less the spell
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: or that or this. You know, they weren't even learning
- 1:19:41Speaker 5: anything in Defense against the Dark Arts. So it is
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: it is interesting to see how you know, many times
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: we treat Harry Potter as this whole thing, obviously, this
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: whole full body of work, but each installment is so
- 1:19:54Speaker 5: particular and could really play very well with this me
- 1:20:00Speaker 5: medium of video games for some of them, but the
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: others might not. So they really did struggle and with
- 1:20:06Speaker 5: the last few games like Deathly Hall's Part one and two.
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: With the original games, they did struggle a lot with that.
- 1:20:13Speaker 5: So it's very interesting you brought up because I hadn't
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: thought about it, and I think it's it's it could
- 1:20:18Speaker 5: be a very very you know, I'm thinking it's very possible.
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: There's there's truth to that.
- 1:20:26Speaker 4: Well, I mean I think even like thinking about it
- 1:20:30Speaker 4: from like a film perspective, like I remember, like when
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: we were waiting for like film adaptations of those later books,
- 1:20:37Speaker 4: like there was a lot of discourse around like how
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: are they going to translate this into a film? Right,
- 1:20:41Speaker 4: Like How is Order of the Phoenix going to work
- 1:20:43Speaker 4: as a film because the same things you just mentioned, right, Like,
- 1:20:46Speaker 4: how do we capture some of that? How are we
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: going to split Deathly Hallows into two parts when the
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: first book, the first part of the book is them
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: like camping half the time, right, Like, how is that
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: going to be a film that's going to be keeping
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: your attention? And so I think that in general today, right, right, Yeah,
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: that's funny, it's yeah, I think that. Yeah, so they
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: did something right there, but also at the expense of things, right,
- 1:21:10Speaker 4: Like you do have to make choices, I think more
- 1:21:13Speaker 4: with those later books because there is so much internal things.
- 1:21:16Speaker 4: There's so much plot driven stuff that really I think
- 1:21:20Speaker 4: only works really really well in a book, and so
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: you've got to like navigate that while still telling the story.
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: And I think that unfortunately, like it's hard, Yeah, that's
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: exactly it. It's harder to translate that into a game.
- 1:21:33Speaker 4: And not that those games are bad, but there is
- 1:21:35Speaker 4: something just very like whimsical and magical, and I don't
- 1:21:41Speaker 4: know about especially like the first two books that I
- 1:21:46Speaker 4: think just translate really well into two games, right, because
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: I think it's like you've got them discovering there was
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: a world, and sorting and the introduction of quidditch and
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: the introduction of classes at Hogwarts, Like, there's just so
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: much that you can do there throughout the entire especially
- 1:22:02Speaker 4: I think a Sorcerer's Stone like that one just reads
- 1:22:05Speaker 4: like perfectly translated into a video game, where it does
- 1:22:08Speaker 4: get harder, I think after Goblet of Fire. But yeah,
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: I still think overall, like I think that it has
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: met expectations. I think that I'm very interested. I guess
- 1:22:22Speaker 4: to hear like how many fans like have actually played
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: like the lego Harry Potter games or if you know,
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: because I don't think they get as much, you know,
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: I don't know. I think about when Hogwart's Legacy came
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: out right, Like, obviously as a huge game, it gets
- 1:22:38Speaker 4: a lot of discourse online. You've got a lot of
- 1:22:41Speaker 4: people reaching to play at whether they're Harry Potter fans
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: or just fans of RPGs and like video games in general.
- 1:22:48Speaker 4: And it very much is not just looked at as
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: a Harry Potter video game. It's looked at as a
- 1:22:54Speaker 4: video game as part of the video games that are
- 1:22:57Speaker 4: that are out right now. Whereas I do think Lego
- 1:23:00Speaker 4: games are maybe a little bit more niche whether that's
- 1:23:04Speaker 4: like kids and adults that are just really into the
- 1:23:08Speaker 4: IP or really into Lego games, but they just feel
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: more I don't know how much they're talked about in
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: the like overall, I don't know if zeitgeist is the
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: right word to use here in the video game community.
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: So I could see maybe to your other point, maybe
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: they like quietly exceeded them, because it's like, I don't
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: know how much people are like, oh man, there's a
- 1:23:31Speaker 4: new Lego Harry Potter game coming out. I got to
- 1:23:33Speaker 4: run out and to get it the day it comes out,
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: versus maybe you eventually just pick it up and you're like, Wow,
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: why didn't I play this sooner? This is so fun?
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: Mm hmm yeah. Yeah.
- 1:23:42Speaker 5: Also, I don't think it would have had the same
- 1:23:44Speaker 5: impact if it was released today as they had back
- 1:23:46Speaker 5: in the day, because you would put anything out back
- 1:23:49Speaker 5: in the day and people would buy it and they
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: would play it just because you know, it was the
- 1:23:55Speaker 5: cusp of popularity for Harry Potter back then, and everything
- 1:23:58Speaker 5: was still so new, and books the last book had
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: only come out a couple of years before that still
- 1:24:03Speaker 5: had more movies. We were, you know, just about to
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: wrap up that that uh, that event. But I think
- 1:24:11Speaker 5: it it just really came out in a time where
- 1:24:15Speaker 5: it allowed it for for it to be popular and
- 1:24:19Speaker 5: for people to really enjoy them. I do think they're
- 1:24:22Speaker 5: very much appreciated in the fandom as a whole, Like
- 1:24:26Speaker 5: the first three games of the main titles, and obviously
- 1:24:30Speaker 5: Hotwart's legacy, I think it's the one that takes all
- 1:24:32Speaker 5: of the credit. Like for most people, it's kind of
- 1:24:35Speaker 5: like the best game, and obviously it's the newest one,
- 1:24:39Speaker 5: it's the most Obviously it's an open world RPG game.
- 1:24:42Speaker 5: So like you said, Nicole, like it just it doesn't
- 1:24:45Speaker 5: it's not just for the fans, but also for OURPG
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: fans as well, and they all had like really really
- 1:24:51Speaker 5: high opinions of that game. But I do think that
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: Hotwarts Lego Harry Potter, even though it's obviously less popular,
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: I do think it's pretty well, you know, received, and
- 1:25:04Speaker 5: it is a fan favorite, we could call it in
- 1:25:07Speaker 5: terms of what Harry Potter games are good. At least
- 1:25:11Speaker 5: in a lot of the YouTube videos that I've seen
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: of rankings, Lego is always pretty much out up there,
- 1:25:17Speaker 5: which is funny because it's like the Lego games did
- 1:25:20Speaker 5: a better work at capturing that than the games did themselves.
- 1:25:26Speaker 5: So you know, this ties in a little bit into
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: this last question that I had that if you know
- 1:25:31Speaker 5: they are any better than the original EA Harry Potter games,
- 1:25:34Speaker 5: or if we're kind of comparing two different design philosophies,
- 1:25:39Speaker 5: And I mean, I think in my you know, I
- 1:25:42Speaker 5: think that it's very different design philosophies as well, So
- 1:25:46Speaker 5: it's kind of like comparing peers to apples in that regard.
- 1:25:50Speaker 5: Even though it's the same story and there's a lot
- 1:25:52Speaker 5: of elements that they share, it's just very different mechanics.
- 1:25:56Speaker 5: It's a different objective, it's a different like. So I
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: think it's unfair because some are important to compare them,
- 1:26:04Speaker 5: but in terms of like how addictive they are her
- 1:26:07Speaker 5: in terms of how good they are or how fun
- 1:26:09Speaker 5: they are, I think the Lego Harry Potter games as
- 1:26:11Speaker 5: a whole do a much better job than the main
- 1:26:14Speaker 5: ty in games, just because of how they managed to
- 1:26:18Speaker 5: keep it very consistent. And that's something that we didn't
- 1:26:21Speaker 5: talk about, but it's consistent all throughout, so even the
- 1:26:25Speaker 5: castle design is almost I think it's the same throughout
- 1:26:29Speaker 5: the whole of it. I'm not sure if they kind
- 1:26:32Speaker 5: of kept the design for the first four of Yes,
- 1:26:35Speaker 5: they change it for definitely Holl's Part two, so they
- 1:26:38Speaker 5: added that viaduct from the Battle of Hogwarts, but other
- 1:26:41Speaker 5: than that, the castle was kind of like the same,
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: So they were able kind of like to make it
- 1:26:45Speaker 5: a lot more consistent, which, again, like we talked at
- 1:26:49Speaker 5: the beginning of the movies, didn't have that advantage and
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: they kind of had to play by a year as
- 1:26:57Speaker 5: the books were being released. By here, they had like
- 1:26:59Speaker 5: a much more They had more room to give us
- 1:27:02Speaker 5: something a lot more consistent, and I love a good consistency,
- 1:27:06Speaker 5: and I think that it did a great job too.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. I mean they're very different than those
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: first EA games, so I guess it's just more of
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: a personal preference. But I will say I enjoyed Lego
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: Harry Potter more than I did the original games.
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you can't compare them. I think in
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: the same way that you wouldn't really be able to
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: compare the original games to like Hogwarts Legacy now or
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: Lego Harry Potter to Hogwarts Legacy, and they're just all
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: very separate, and I think again, it is a preference thing.
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: I also prefer the Lego Harry Potter games. That's why
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: I've played those, and I haven't played you know, the
- 1:27:48Speaker 4: original tie in games. And you know, I did have
- 1:27:51Speaker 4: the original Goblet of Fire on game Boy, and I
- 1:27:54Speaker 4: don't I think at the found it way too hard
- 1:27:56Speaker 4: at the time, and that didn't really play it, whereas
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: I maybe I gotta like, let me get what, let
- 1:28:05Speaker 4: me start with Hogwarts Legacy is right. I pre ordered
- 1:28:08Speaker 4: that game and it's still wrapped on my shelf. I know,
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: I know. I think I'm going to end up just
- 1:28:14Speaker 4: having to like purchase it on my switch because it's
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: been discounted a lot, and so I think, like, if
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: I play it on my switch, I'm more likely to
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: pick it up over my PlayStation.
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: Imagine channel opening a YouTube channel channel.
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: Those are a lot of money today.
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: Yeah, they are. They are. But I think that, yeah,
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: Nicole plays their Hogwarts Legacy. Yeah, I think that it's Yeah,
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: it's a preference thing. I think the one thing that's
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: really great about like Lego picking up Harry Potter is like,
- 1:28:45Speaker 4: because one, of course they would, why wouldn't they? But
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: I also think it just makes like Harry Potter, video
- 1:28:52Speaker 4: gaming more accessible to like the wider audience, because like
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: you do get a lot of people who don't like
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: playing big like RPG kind of games like, which is
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: sometimes me like I've always wanted to get into them
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: and want to like them, but I just get so
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: frustrated that it just becomes not fun anymore. Or there's
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: so many things to remember, and I'm just like I'd
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: rather just watch a movie, like or I'd rather watch
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: somebody playing through the game, right, Whereas, yeah, I love
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: doing that. Whereas I think, like, you know, there is
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: a right now, there's such a like like I don't know,
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: popularity around like cozy games, right, and like what people
- 1:29:31Speaker 4: are calling cozy games, And I see the Lego games
- 1:29:34Speaker 4: as kind of like falling into that space because there
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: isn't high risk. There isn't high stakes, Like it's a
- 1:29:40Speaker 4: lot of puzzles and like right, right, and then you
- 1:29:47Speaker 4: get right and then you get put back together. Like
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: it's not you know, it's it's it's just you can
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: easily like sit on the couch and just kind of
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: play through it and not feel like your heart is
- 1:29:56Speaker 4: racing because you're having to battle God. I think of
- 1:30:00Speaker 4: a Lord of the Rings game I played, and I
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: would just remember getting like surrounded by orcs and it
- 1:30:06Speaker 4: was just like the scariest of stressful. Yes, it was
- 1:30:09Speaker 4: Shadow of Mortor. That was the first thing I got it.
- 1:30:11Speaker 4: I got it with my place, and it was just
- 1:30:13Speaker 4: the most stressful thing ever. Well that's why. That's probably
- 1:30:19Speaker 4: also why I haven't played it yet.
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: But I always you can take breathers in between the
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: battles and go to the Room of Requirement and just
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: hang out in your little like creature vivariums.
- 1:30:27Speaker 4: I'm never going to come out of your hypocrits. Well,
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: I got I'm just going to stay there. I think
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: like I am somebody because I love video games for
- 1:30:34Speaker 4: the story. So like I will always play those games
- 1:30:37Speaker 4: like on the most basic story level mode. I don't
- 1:30:39Speaker 4: want like high, I don't need crazy battle like.
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: I just want to get the story.
- 1:30:44Speaker 4: And find out the story. And so I think that, Yeah,
- 1:30:48Speaker 4: so I think you can't compare them. I'm glad that
- 1:30:50Speaker 4: Lego Harry Potter exists so that there is games there
- 1:30:53Speaker 4: for kids and for people who want to just casually game.
- 1:30:58Speaker 4: It's just yeah, it's just a very excess, and I
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: kind of hope that, like going forward, like if we
- 1:31:04Speaker 4: if like more Harry Potter video games are on our horizon,
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: I do hope that maybe, like obviously I think the
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: next project will be Hogwarts Legacy too, but I hope
- 1:31:13Speaker 4: that other than that, like there is maybe an appetite
- 1:31:17Speaker 4: for making another like simple kind of Harry Potter game,
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: but not in a way of like a mobile game,
- 1:31:25Speaker 4: because obviously we've got a lot of mobile games that
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: kind of like you know, I think of puzzles and
- 1:31:29Speaker 4: spells and things like that is a very simple game.
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: But I would love another like I guess kid friendly
- 1:31:36Speaker 4: kind of game.
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: Disney dreaml like Valley, but make it Harry Potter. Oh
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: you could in the lake and like the giant slid
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: would come and like help.
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: Out my god. Yes, that's exactly what I want. Yes, yes,
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: like animal crossing Hogwarts.
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: Like different characters and like put their little house around.
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: Yeah you know, but it's so funny because I could
- 1:32:05Speaker 4: definitely see with like the popularity of like dream Light Valley,
- 1:32:08Speaker 4: which again is another game that I bought forever ago
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: and is on my switch and I've not played it yet.
- 1:32:13Speaker 4: But like with the popularity of that. I'm kind of
- 1:32:17Speaker 4: hoping that maybe is it. Is it still port Key
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: Games now that's like taken over, is it? I don't
- 1:32:24Speaker 4: know if they still call themselves port Key Games or
- 1:32:26Speaker 4: whoever it is. That's kind of like in charge of
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: like the Wishing World Games, Like I do hope that
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: maybe they I think it still is. I think like
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: if they see the popularity of a game like that,
- 1:32:36Speaker 4: like thinking about like maybe we should make something like that.
- 1:32:40Speaker 4: I think with the TV show coming out, definitely, I
- 1:32:44Speaker 4: think puts Harry Potter back in obviously the mainstream forefront
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: a little bit more. And so you always say, right,
- 1:32:57Speaker 4: like just imagine like new like just like like Pokemon Go,
- 1:33:01Speaker 4: but it's like New catching beasts and the.
- 1:33:04Speaker 5: Case it could be you a new character and you're
- 1:33:07Speaker 5: just out in the world capturing you're.
- 1:33:09Speaker 4: Working with New, like you're working with New to capture
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: the beasts. But it's like in Dreamlight Valley style.
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: Yes, and then you can like a graphic weight and
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: like put them where you want to put.
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: You can help oh my god, you can help New
- 1:33:22Speaker 4: decorate in the case like you set up though, like
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: you like we need to become game developers because this
- 1:33:28Speaker 4: is great. And again we say this all the time,
- 1:33:31Speaker 4: but if someone happens upon this podcast and listens to
- 1:33:33Speaker 4: this and they develop this, please credit Rebellio Podcast if.
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: We gave you this idea.
- 1:33:39Speaker 7: Testers absolutely, but just imagine like you get like you
- 1:33:44Speaker 7: collect these beasts when new, and then you get in
- 1:33:48Speaker 7: the case with new and like you help create the
- 1:33:52Speaker 7: environment for that that beast.
- 1:33:54Speaker 5: Well, if you get that in Hogwarts Legacy, you get
- 1:33:57Speaker 5: something familiar. Yes, you get something pretty similar because so
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: you get to like these biomes like these like different
- 1:34:03Speaker 5: it looks like new suitcase kind of like because you
- 1:34:05Speaker 5: have this whole like huge landscape where you can just
- 1:34:10Speaker 5: host your beasts and you can pet them and beat
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: them and just kind of it feels very Pokemon.
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: There's like a beating pen, so then you can get
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: baby beats.
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: M I really like that element they.
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: See they could also do, like I think because like
- 1:34:27Speaker 4: one of my favorite games is Stardoo Valley, which again
- 1:34:32Speaker 4: is a very kind of like in it's not I'm
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: going to make a comparison that's not right at all.
- 1:34:37Speaker 4: So like anybody that plays these games is going to
- 1:34:39Speaker 4: be like, clearly Nicole doesn't what she's talking about but
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: I don't know a better way to describe it, but
- 1:34:43Speaker 4: Stardoo Valley, if you've not played it, is very similar
- 1:34:46Speaker 4: in the way to games like Animal Crossing and that
- 1:34:50Speaker 4: you're like building this thing and you're taking care of
- 1:34:53Speaker 4: your farm and your animals and all of that kind
- 1:34:55Speaker 4: of stuff. I feel like we could make a Harry
- 1:34:58Speaker 4: Potter version of something like Stardow Valley and that maybe
- 1:35:03Speaker 4: you're raising, like you have a hippogriff farm and you're
- 1:35:06Speaker 4: taking care of your little hippogriffs, or you know, you've
- 1:35:09Speaker 4: got your little pen of nifflers and you've got to
- 1:35:11Speaker 4: go out and forage for food and bring it to
- 1:35:14Speaker 4: your little nifflers. Like I just feel like we could
- 1:35:17Speaker 4: somehow make a farming type game around the world.
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: That's what they're doing with Pokemon now. They're doing this
- 1:35:25Speaker 5: animal style.
- 1:35:27Speaker 4: Are very popular, yes, yeah, and they.
- 1:35:30Speaker 5: Are kind of like using that to stress on it
- 1:35:32Speaker 5: and be like, Okay, there's a market here, let's pokemon
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: it and then you.
- 1:35:36Speaker 4: Know, yeah, I just feel like we could do that
- 1:35:40Speaker 4: with Harry Potter, Like I feel like there's certain for it.
- 1:35:45Speaker 4: There's certain yeah, yes, yeah, especially fantastic beasts like I
- 1:35:50Speaker 4: think there's definitely certain ips that wouldn't work well, and
- 1:35:53Speaker 4: like a farming style game like I could never imagine
- 1:35:56Speaker 4: like Star Wars, like being in like well, I mean
- 1:35:59Speaker 4: you could there is a lot of creatures and you
- 1:36:01Speaker 4: could take care of creatures and stuff like that. But
- 1:36:03Speaker 4: I think like Harry Potter, like you could sellhow make
- 1:36:05Speaker 4: it work? You know, maybe you're growing plants right and
- 1:36:10Speaker 4: you've got to take care of your mandrakes. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:36:15Speaker 4: well I would play that game immediately. But yeah, either way,
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: I don't think we can compare any of the moral
- 1:36:25Speaker 4: of the story of the question that we just have
- 1:36:27Speaker 4: started this all with, right is, I don't think that
- 1:36:29Speaker 4: we can really compare them at all, which I think
- 1:36:34Speaker 4: is a good thing because again, it's just something for everybody. Yeah,
- 1:36:38Speaker 4: you can kind of pick and choose what you prefer
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: and still engage in a Harry Potter video game.
- 1:36:45Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, So that's all we have for our beloved
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: lego Harry Potter games. If you haven't picked them up yet,
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: I think us three recommend you to do it, because
- 1:36:57Speaker 5: it's a great opportunity to just lay back and enjoy
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: and not being stressed, even if you are torn apart,
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: there's always going to be a backup, either.
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: A manual to put you back together again.
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: There's always a manual.
- 1:37:12Speaker 5: And it's just good, cozy, feel good games that you
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: know are perfect whenever you need a timeout. So yeah,
- 1:37:21Speaker 5: hopefully this bites a little interest to play these games
- 1:37:25Speaker 5: as well. And yeah, that's all we have for today's
- 1:37:28Speaker 5: main discussion.
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: It's a noise, all right. So last episode we asked
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: you the question do you have a favorite of the
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: Harry Potter video games? And we got a lot of responses.
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: So Hufflepuff Bell on Instagram says Hogwarts legacy. I wish
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: they could add more to it. I beat it twice,
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: first as a Hufflepuff and the second as a Slytherin.
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: Love the theming of the common rooms and want them
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: to add more years.
- 1:38:05Speaker 4: Wow, I'm curious if you enjoyed playing more as a
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: Hufflepuff or as a Slytherin.
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: Yeah, let us know.
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: I obviously I play as a Hufflepuff, and yeah, the
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: common rooms are really cool. I'm curious to see the
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: other ones, so maybe I'll have to start as.
- 1:38:23Speaker 4: The Well, if I ever start playing, you know, i'll
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: show you which is obviously going to be amazing because.
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: And then Jerry send us an email, and I'm just
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: going to summarize the first bit here. She explains that
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: she doesn't really have a lot of experience with video
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: games because they weren't really a thing when she was
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: a teenager, but she does remember trying out a Star
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: Trek game on a mainframe computer in college. So then
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: she says, quote, so when the types of video games
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: consoles in PC based computer games that you were discussing
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: came out, I was busy with work. I never bothered
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: to buy any, as I figured I would be rubbish
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: at them. And then when I heard about the first
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: person shooter type games, I really didn't want to be involved. Yeah,
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: you didn't miss much. Therefore, the only Harry Potter related
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: gaming I have ever done was the original Potter More.
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: First catching the feather to become one of the beta testers. Yeah,
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: she says she managed to do that even with dial
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: up internet access. Yeah, oh those were the times. And
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: then she says, and then the games inside Potter More.
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: I loved the toss the nomes from the garden, catch
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: the pixies, bounce the pudding. Even the game with the
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: spiders was okay. And I loved to collect potion ingredients.
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: I couldn't brew potions my internet connection was too slow. Yep,
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: I have that same problem, and or my eye hand
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: coordination was too bad. So I confessed to cheating and
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: giving my login info to a friend who could brew
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: potions to make those I needed to be able to
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: advance in the storytelling. I can never forgive whoever made
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: the decision to destroy the original Potter More. With that
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: lovely artwork and those fun games accessible even to those
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: with lack of gaming skills like me, I want to
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: play Hogwarts Legacy. At least I want to create that
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: lovely place in the Room of Requirement and capture and
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: raise various fantastic beasts. Can you tell I've watched some
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: of the YouTube videos and explore the castle and hang
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: out in the common room and fly on a hippogriff.
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: But I know that I would be rubbish at the
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: spell casting and dueling needed to get to where I
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: can manage to do that. And I am so game
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: ignorant that I am not even sure of a cost
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: effective way to get to play. Though now that I
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: do own a Windows eleven PC, I might be able
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: to question Mark question mark.
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: That's on your specs, Yeah, on ram near graphic card.
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: But but you see, Jerry would play those games that
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: we've been discussing.
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: That sounds perfect, and I think that, Like, no, I'm
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: just gonna say, I think I was thinking of what
- 1:41:24Speaker 4: Jerry was saying about the potomer games. Imagine how much
- 1:41:28Speaker 4: how cool those games would be now with the technology
- 1:41:31Speaker 4: we have now, because they would probably have like an app,
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: and like I can just imagine playing those games like
- 1:41:38Speaker 4: on my iPad and stuff and it just being so
- 1:41:40Speaker 4: much easier than we were having to try to brew
- 1:41:43Speaker 4: these potions on our dial up internet. So I agree
- 1:41:47Speaker 4: to whoever decided to get rid of all of that.
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: And you know, it's really popular now that they could
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: turn something like that into is those apps where it
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: like locks your screen and turns on your notifications so
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: that you can like get away from your phone and
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: like not have screen time, but then it like rewards
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: you with stuff. So like I know there's one where
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: like the little character knit socks and then like the
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: longer you have it up in your phone's locked, the
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: more socks you knit. You could do like a potion
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: brewing and like have all your little potions and then
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: the more you have your phone locked, the more the
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: potions brew.
- 1:42:30Speaker 2: Mm, that'd be cute.
- 1:42:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:42:34Speaker 5: I don't know if you guys remember, but back in
- 1:42:35Speaker 5: the day, the old Potter More Days PlayStation home released
- 1:42:41Speaker 5: sort of like a beta game of Potter More and
- 1:42:46Speaker 5: it was like the first thing we would get, similar
- 1:42:48Speaker 5: to Howard's Legacy.
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: I don't know if you remember that.
- 1:42:53Speaker 4: I don't.
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: There's even a trailer for it. I played it, remember
- 1:42:56Speaker 5: playing it.
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: It was only like.
- 1:42:59Speaker 5: You could do to walk through dagon Alley, the Hogworths Express,
- 1:43:03Speaker 5: the entrance hall of the castle. I think you could
- 1:43:07Speaker 5: play games as well, like wizard games, and you got
- 1:43:11Speaker 5: sorted into a house that project never was never picked up,
- 1:43:15Speaker 5: but you did get to access your common rooms and
- 1:43:19Speaker 5: it was really cool. Like I was just remembering that
- 1:43:22Speaker 5: and it kind of caught lost. It's like a hiad
- 1:43:26Speaker 5: and gem that not many people know about, but it's
- 1:43:30Speaker 5: fool that, you know. She mentioned game and Potter Moore
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: and I was like, oh, yes, I remember this game actually,
- 1:43:36Speaker 5: and it was so cool because there was literally the
- 1:43:39Speaker 5: illustrations of Pottermore in full three D four.
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: That's cool done really well.
- 1:43:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: Yeah, And then we got a couple more responses on Instagram.
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: Lucy says, Hogwart's Legacy. I have only played it one
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: time for about thirty minutes as my friend needed help
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: with questions, but it was so much fun, and I've
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: also persuaded her to actually play it in full. It
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: was a very easy, not much arm twisting thing, so
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: we'll have to ask her how that goes. And then
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: Carolyn says, my favorite is still Lego Harry Potter. The
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: humor gets me every time I play those games. Yeah,
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: yey stuff.
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:44:27Speaker 4: So for this episode's discussing question, we would like to
- 1:44:31Speaker 4: know what elements would you like to see in a
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: future Harry Potter video game? So, as always we'd love

- 1:45:17Speaker 1: of interest to you, you don't want to miss next
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: episode and until next time.
- 1:45:23Speaker 5: I'm Amy, I'm Nicole, and I'm Toms.
