- 0:00Speaker 1: When you look back on it, do you ever, do
- 0:01Speaker 1: you ever able to figure out a reason why you
- 0:03Speaker 1: liked to record things or like what you got out
- 0:06Speaker 1: of like, you know, as, cause as we get older, we,
- 0:09Speaker 1: you kind of start to get a little bit of a,
- 0:10Speaker 1: like a overview kind of of ourselves even, you know,
- 0:14Speaker 1: in the world, maybe a little bit, a little bit
- 0:15Speaker 1: of an idea of what we have been doing in
- 0:18Speaker 1: the world. You ever able to figure any of that out?
- 0:21Speaker 1: Kind of like the reasoning behind some of it, like
- 0:23Speaker 1: why you liked capturing things or why you liked like
- 0:26Speaker 1: pulling the wool over people's, or, you know? Yeah.
- 0:29Speaker 2: I think there was kind of a, a few layers
- 0:33Speaker 2: to that for sure. And that's a cool question. Um,
- 0:36Speaker 2: it's a great question. Cause like one, one thing was
- 0:42Speaker 2: we never really had, you know, you know, a video
- 0:46Speaker 2: camera or, uh, you know, you know, when I was,
- 0:49Speaker 2: I grew up in the eighties, so we didn't have
- 0:51Speaker 2: a video camera or even in a film camera. We
- 0:54Speaker 2: didn't even take a lot of photos and, you know, we,
- 0:56Speaker 2: we didn't, it was kind of expensive, you know, people
- 0:59Speaker 2: that had a video camera, they had like, you know,
- 1:01Speaker 2: a lot of money to have a video camera. We
- 1:02Speaker 2: never had a video camera, you know? And so when
- 1:05Speaker 2: all of a sudden they became somewhat attainable, you know,
- 1:09Speaker 2: I would, I would sort of sign one out at school.
- 1:14Speaker 2: And I would, I found that it was kind of a,
- 1:19Speaker 2: first of all, I love comedy. So I loved, you know,
- 1:22Speaker 2: David Letterman. I love watching him go out in the
- 1:24Speaker 2: street and, you know, do stuff. And I loved, you know,
- 1:27Speaker 2: Monty Python and, you know, just SCTV. And I just
- 1:31Speaker 2: love comedy. I was, I was start, was doing standup
- 1:35Speaker 2: comedy in Ottawa when I was 16 years old. And like,
- 1:38Speaker 2: I was, would go down to watch, you know, Norm MacDonald,
- 1:41Speaker 2: you know, when he was in his twenties, you know,
- 1:43Speaker 2: and I'm just like, it was sort of a, this
- 1:45Speaker 2: amazing thing. And I somehow had this sort of feeling
- 1:49Speaker 2: that if I could just get a video camera and
- 1:52Speaker 2: go film stuff that, you know, maybe I could, uh,
- 1:56Speaker 2: you know, make a show or whatever but there's also
- 2:00Speaker 2: Skateboarder you know and that was that was sort of
- 2:02Speaker 2: skateboarding videos where holy shit look at this this is
- 2:05Speaker 2: amazing how did you find that so fast yeah there
- 2:08Speaker 2: me at 16 years old yuck yucks yeah how did
- 2:12Speaker 2: you find that so fast I don't even know you
- 2:14Speaker 2: must have had that in advance that is unbelievable there's
- 2:16Speaker 2: some sort of weird algorithm here or something like that I.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Don't know if they did or not but yeah it
- 2:19Speaker 1: looks great wow yeah it looks so yeah look.
- 2:22Speaker 2: At that microphone too it's like I don't even they
- 2:24Speaker 2: didn't even use the right microphone back then but um
- 2:27Speaker 2: But I, no, I just, I don't know, I often
- 2:32Speaker 2: kind of like think there's something about like, I don't know,
- 2:38Speaker 2: I think I've always been really afraid of the concept
- 2:40Speaker 2: of like being dead, you know, like being gone and
- 2:45Speaker 2: like there being no sort of, you know, recollection of
- 2:51Speaker 2: anything that you've ever done, right? And I always found
- 2:55Speaker 2: it interesting to just kind of document things and just
- 2:59Speaker 2: record things and that'll be there, you know, in some
- 3:02Speaker 2: electronic way floating around there forever. And it sort of
- 3:05Speaker 2: feels in a little way like kind of like sort
- 3:06Speaker 2: of a weird kind of immortality in a way, you know.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I think that's kind of what fascinates me about these
- 3:13Speaker 2: ruins in the desert too. Like these people came and
- 3:15Speaker 2: built these things in the year 875 and I'm walking
- 3:18Speaker 2: through it and looking at it and filming it and
- 3:19Speaker 2: talking about it with you. And so they're kind of
- 3:22Speaker 2: in a way kind of remembered, you know.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:25Speaker 2: And then there was also just kind of the blatant
- 3:28Speaker 2: you know, when I was younger, I was a little,
- 3:33Speaker 2: quite a bit different than I am now. I think
- 3:34Speaker 2: I've calmed down quite a bit. Like when I was younger,
- 3:37Speaker 2: I really always needed to be kind of like, you know,
- 3:40Speaker 2: the center of attention, the class clown, moving around a lot.
- 3:44Speaker 2: He was, was weird as a kid. So to me,
- 3:47Speaker 2: it seemed like a really good way of just kind of, uh,
- 3:51Speaker 2: you know, documenting all of this silliness, you know? And, uh,
- 3:56Speaker 2: And I loved it, you know, I love filming stuff
- 3:58Speaker 2: and showing it to.
- 3:59Speaker 1: People at school.
- 4:00Speaker 2: And it was just fun.
- 4:01Speaker 1: You captured so much. You were one of the first
- 4:02Speaker 1: people really to just capture shit and just show it
- 4:05Speaker 1: to people kind of, you know, like, kind of like,
- 4:08Speaker 1: not shit, but I mean, just cat, you know.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yeah, no shit for sure.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Actually actual shit was involved quite a bit.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Yeah. We're going to capture shit and show it to you.
- 4:16Speaker 1: What do you mean? Like, this is what we mean.
