- 0:00Aloha. Wednesday morning. Moderate winds and scattered showers are moving in through the weekend, with elevated surf on the south shore. I'm Mele with what's happening in Hawaiʻi today.
- 1:37Expect steady trade winds and periodic showers, especially on windward slopes and mountains. Showers will be heaviest at night and early morning—afternoons should be drier. Rain amounts will be light to moderate. Strong winds are in effect through Thursday morning for most island channels. If you're planning windward activities like the Hāna Highway or waterfall hikes, afternoon is your window when showers ease.
- 1:58South shore surf is running moderate—Waikiki is at 4.2 feet with strong shore break and rip currents, so that's a watch-from-shore day unless you know what you're doing. Kauaʻi's Hanalei is 5.2 feet and even rougher. Hapuna on the Big Island is nearly glass at 1.2 feet, and Kāʻanapali on Maui is small and manageable.
- 2:14Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has several trail closures—Kīpukapuaulu is temporarily closed due to hazardous trees, and the Lava Tube Bridge is under replacement. Kīlauea is actively erupting, so check current conditions before heading to the park. The rest of the islands are operating normally.
- 2:29Our lighthouse guide just went live—it walks through all the accessible lighthouses across the islands, from Kīlauea Point on Kauaʻi to Makapuʻu and Diamond Head on Oʻahu, plus what to know about the Big Island and Maui. If you're planning a coastal drive this week and want to add a few stops, it's a solid reference.
- 2:45Thursday winds ease slightly, and by Friday the south swell starts to fade. Weekend looks mostly unsettled with showers continuing.
- 2:51If you're heading to the south shore today, bring your sunscreen and respect the rip currents. Catch you tomorrow.
