Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Good friend of ours is John Boyle, team writer for
- 0:03Speaker 1: the Seahawks, team reporter for the Seahawks. Used to be
- 0:06Speaker 1: at the Ever Harold covering the University of Washington and
- 0:08Speaker 1: the Seahawks. He joined us on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline
- 0:12Speaker 1: live because his girls are now in school and this
- 0:14Speaker 1: is a good time for us to get a hold
- 0:15Speaker 1: of him.
- 0:16Speaker 2: We just dropped him off.
- 0:18Speaker 1: John was in the super secret double secret probation dinner
- 0:23Speaker 1: last night, Ceremony of the Rings, the Lords of the Rings.
- 0:28Speaker 1: The Seahawks got their Super Bowl rings last night. John
- 0:32Speaker 1: Boyle got one because he's a Seahawks employee and busts
- 0:34Speaker 1: his tale to do it. He joins us now to
- 0:36Speaker 1: tell us all about it.
- 0:37Speaker 2: How about John? Congratulations?
- 0:40Speaker 3: Well thanks Greg.
- 0:41Speaker 4: To clarify the not all the staff has gotten there, right, Yeah,
- 0:44Speaker 4: but you guys, there will be a later celebration happening,
- 0:49Speaker 4: so do not have mine yet.
- 0:51Speaker 2: But I thought they counted you in the football staff.
- 0:56Speaker 4: You know, it's you know, it's kind of a they
- 0:59Speaker 4: got to cut their.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Remember off that mark. But we were there, our department
- 1:02Speaker 3: was there in a working capacity. After the event, I.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Stand corrected all morning. I've been pumping up. How you're
- 1:08Speaker 2: going to tell us how heavy it is?
- 1:10Speaker 3: Look, I saw him a post, I held one. I
- 1:12Speaker 3: can tell what?
- 1:14Speaker 2: Okay, what's what makes it speakable?
- 1:16Speaker 1: Let's first of all, let's describe the event for people
- 1:19Speaker 1: who now that they put videos out and everything else.
- 1:21Speaker 2: What was it like there?
- 1:23Speaker 4: I mean, it's a good time. So now that it's over,
- 1:25Speaker 4: we can tell people where it was. It was in
- 1:26Speaker 4: a big old hangar and boeing that they did up
- 1:29Speaker 4: very nice with a lot of curtains, basically created like
- 1:34Speaker 4: separate roots for a cocktail hour and a dinner and.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Then the after party. It was a it was a
- 1:38Speaker 3: good time.
- 1:39Speaker 4: I will have a story publishing soon about the event.
- 1:41Speaker 4: And my biggest takeaway is as someone who was around
- 1:44Speaker 4: the team, you would appreciate just like how fun these guys,
- 1:47Speaker 4: how much fun these guys were having together, and how
- 1:50Speaker 4: like I mean it was they were having the hardest time,
- 1:53Speaker 4: like staying on schedule. Players to just run off to
- 1:56Speaker 4: get drinks with each other and chat and like you
- 1:58Speaker 4: need to sit down, like do the ring. I'm sure
- 2:00Speaker 4: you saw everyone saw the videos. The rings get lowered
- 2:03Speaker 4: to their tables, which means players need to be in
- 2:05Speaker 4: their seats where their ring is going to come down.
- 2:07Speaker 4: And that was not an easy thing to get done,
- 2:09Speaker 4: but it was. Players had a great time.
- 2:11Speaker 1: You know.
- 2:11Speaker 4: I heard some people involved in planning the event and saying,
- 2:14Speaker 4: you know, sometimes players get from past Super Bowls. What
- 2:17Speaker 4: they've heard is or past parties, players get their rings
- 2:20Speaker 4: and they jet out, you know, they want to go
- 2:22Speaker 4: to their own party or go out with their friends.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Almost everyone stayed till this party ended and was you know,
- 2:27Speaker 4: they were dancing on stage. It is just it is
- 2:29Speaker 4: very fitting for what you know, this team. You know,
- 2:32Speaker 4: one of their biggest strengths last year was how close
- 2:35Speaker 4: and how together this team was and that carried through
- 2:37Speaker 4: the party.
- 2:38Speaker 2: You sound like you had a good time, John, your
- 2:40Speaker 2: voice is tired.
- 2:42Speaker 3: I was working. I think I think I got my
- 2:45Speaker 3: daughter's cold. I was working.
- 2:48Speaker 4: I was weird there late in a in a less
- 2:50Speaker 4: you know, party capacity, but it was still it was
- 2:52Speaker 4: still a fun thing to be around and to see
- 2:54Speaker 4: the players doing their thing.
- 2:55Speaker 3: I got I.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Got to ask you about the rings coming out of
- 2:59Speaker 1: the sky.
- 3:00Speaker 2: So that is a.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Boeing hangar, the one in Renton down at the airfield
- 3:04Speaker 1: down there. Yeah, up and see okay at Bowing Field. Yeah,
- 3:09Speaker 1: and so this the guys had to be in their
- 3:11Speaker 1: assigned seats because each individual box was individualized for them
- 3:15Speaker 1: of course, because their rings are individualized, and so they
- 3:17Speaker 1: had to de scrat that whole thing.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Would they come down on wires and the parachutes? What
- 3:22Speaker 2: was that about?
- 3:23Speaker 4: It was like it was like auto light fixture that
- 3:26Speaker 4: you know, so just sitting on top of a little
- 3:28Speaker 4: square light and I don't know the you know, the
- 3:31Speaker 4: engineering behind it, but they just slowly lowered they put
- 3:34Speaker 4: on it. This was actually very funny. On a five
- 3:37Speaker 4: minute countdown clock, players on a huge screen, five minutes
- 3:41Speaker 4: counting down, and at the end of the five minutes,
- 3:43Speaker 4: cool like hype video started and then the rings were
- 3:47Speaker 4: supposed to lower. They ended up having to reset the
- 3:51Speaker 4: five minute video put three more minute clock because people
- 3:54Speaker 4: there's music playing in the background and players were up
- 3:57Speaker 4: on stage with the DJ Dancy and when they're supposed
- 3:59Speaker 4: to get in there, so that the five park became
- 4:02Speaker 4: five minutes.
- 4:02Speaker 3: To three minute.
- 4:03Speaker 4: Then they finally got everybody seated, but yeah, then they
- 4:05Speaker 4: just slowly lowered down and it's funny. Some players saw
- 4:09Speaker 4: it coming and we're looking up and other players are
- 4:11Speaker 4: kind of looking around and all of a sudden like, oh.
- 4:12Speaker 3: There's a ring in front of it. Yeah. It was
- 4:14Speaker 3: very cool and.
- 4:15Speaker 4: The player reactions were pretty cool to see how into
- 4:18Speaker 4: it they were.
- 4:19Speaker 1: What's cool about the ring? How heavy is it? I mean,
- 4:21Speaker 1: does it feel like a weight in your hand?
- 4:23Speaker 3: And how big they're?
- 4:25Speaker 4: They're big, as you know, as we've said, they're the
- 4:28Speaker 4: biggest super Bowl rings ever made. I don't have a lot,
- 4:31Speaker 4: like I haven't handled a lot of Super bowlings well,
- 4:33Speaker 4: so I can't compare the weight to anything else, but
- 4:35Speaker 4: I'll say it, it would not be a practical piece
- 4:37Speaker 4: of jewelry to wear around.
- 4:39Speaker 1: You say, the biggest rings ever made. That you're talking
- 4:42Speaker 1: about circumference size.
- 4:44Speaker 4: I I you know, I don't even honestly know what
- 4:47Speaker 4: how they just find that. I would assume it's just that,
- 4:49Speaker 4: you know, the circumference of it. But I know that's
- 4:52Speaker 4: just kind of what we've been you know, what we've
- 4:54Speaker 4: been hearing from the jeweler and everybody else. So they are,
- 4:57Speaker 4: they're big, and they're spectacular.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Tell us about this piece of a football. There's actually
- 5:02Speaker 1: leather inside each ring? Am I right?
- 5:05Speaker 2: And you open up a door.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Yeah, so that.
- 5:07Speaker 4: Yeah, so the jeweler Jason, the Beverly Hills who did these,
- 5:11Speaker 4: They got procured a bunch of footballs. I don't think
- 5:14Speaker 4: they're all actual Super Bowl footballs, but they're all like
- 5:16Speaker 4: from the season. Got a bunch of footballs and just
- 5:19Speaker 4: cut up little tiny pieces so it opens up kind
- 5:22Speaker 4: of the top of the ring becomes like you can
- 5:25Speaker 4: wear it separately as a pennant has a thing like
- 5:27Speaker 4: you can put a chain in. And underneath that is
- 5:30Speaker 4: the fiftieth season logo and that's kind of backed by
- 5:33Speaker 4: a piece of leather that's from a football.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Wow, all right, I need one of those, but that's
- 5:37Speaker 2: gonna cost me.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and then you can get one actually cool fifty replicas, right,
- 5:41Speaker 1: you could buy replicas, Yes, and they're only they're only
- 5:44Speaker 1: sixteen dollars, right, No, fifteen hundred.
- 5:46Speaker 4: Well, there's a less expensive version as well. That's the
- 5:49Speaker 4: the very limited like there's only seventy six of those
- 5:52Speaker 4: for the for the inaugural season, seventy six. There is
- 5:56Speaker 4: a I wouldn't call it cheat by any means, but
- 5:59Speaker 4: the less expense.
- 6:00Speaker 3: The version on the case of Bettverlely Hills website as well.
- 6:03Speaker 2: And boy, Mafi was there. Craig.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I saw Riek Wolland post on his Instagram he was there, boy, Yeah, yeah,
- 6:09Speaker 1: Kobe Bryant was Was Kenneth Walker there?
- 6:13Speaker 4: I did not see him, No, I you know, I
- 6:15Speaker 4: can't one hundred percent confirm that he was not there,
- 6:17Speaker 4: but I didn't see him anywhere. It was a cool thing,
- 6:21Speaker 4: you know when Mike, Mike and Mike and John Schneider
- 6:23Speaker 4: and Chuck Ar'll gave a little speeches and Mike made
- 6:26Speaker 4: sure to kind of shout out and thank those guys
- 6:28Speaker 4: who were no longer you know, members of the team,
- 6:31Speaker 4: but for their contributions. You know, there were some former
- 6:34Speaker 4: coaches there, including Quint Kubiak was there, Nolan Nolan teasily
- 6:39Speaker 4: made it back. He was there, so they all got
- 6:42Speaker 4: you know, made sure to shadow those guys as well.
- 6:45Speaker 2: John.
- 6:45Speaker 5: I understand you spoke with Jason about how collaborative the
- 6:48Speaker 5: design was, but was there one specific feature or maybe
- 6:52Speaker 5: a detail that generated the most discussion or debate before
- 6:56Speaker 5: the final design was even approved.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:00Speaker 4: I mean from talking to him and people in the
- 7:02Speaker 4: organization who are involvement, it sounds like it was very
- 7:05Speaker 4: as you might expect, kind of how this source has
- 7:07Speaker 4: always been.
- 7:07Speaker 3: It was very much about like.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Celebrating the fans and with that looming field, there's you know,
- 7:13Speaker 4: the sides of the rings or the arches of women field. Actually,
- 7:16Speaker 4: if there's all twelve flag button that when pushed causes
- 7:19Speaker 4: the arches to pop out, So it's a very like
- 7:23Speaker 4: connected to the fans. You know, there's a few different
- 7:27Speaker 4: representations of twelve on the ring. There's like twelve feathers,
- 7:30Speaker 4: so there's twenty one on one side. So it was
- 7:33Speaker 4: a very cognitive effort to sure that the fans in
- 7:38Speaker 4: the stadium were a part of this.
- 7:41Speaker 5: M OB Money over Bs became that mantra for this
- 7:45Speaker 5: twenty twenty five team.
- 7:47Speaker 2: How much of that mindset influence d I was.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Able to money missions mission?
- 7:51Speaker 5: I thought it was that's what I said, mob mission,
- 7:54Speaker 5: money said, money Bad said.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Is on the side of one of the sides of
- 7:59Speaker 2: the rings.
- 7:59Speaker 5: Yeah, why was that important enough to earn a permanent
- 8:02Speaker 5: peace on the ring?
- 8:03Speaker 2: You think?
- 8:04Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I think it was just kind of
- 8:06Speaker 4: celebrating part of what that that particular team, what was
- 8:09Speaker 4: one of their rallying cries and what made that? Yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 4: whether it's the way Mike's all talks about process or
- 8:16Speaker 4: that term mob of like they don't you know, they
- 8:19Speaker 4: were focused on the important stuff and not not all
- 8:23Speaker 4: the that can cause distractions and cause division.
- 8:26Speaker 3: On a team.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Like they were a very tight knit together group and
- 8:31Speaker 4: stayed focused on what they needed to and that was
- 8:34Speaker 4: a big part of last season's success.
- 8:36Speaker 1: John, when we were covering the Super Bowl forty eight champions,
- 8:39Speaker 1: I can't remember when those guys got their rings, do you.
- 8:44Speaker 4: I believe it was similar timing, but I don't, you know.
- 8:47Speaker 4: I think it was around this time of year though.
- 8:50Speaker 1: So talk about the timing of it, Gray, Zabel, Leonard
- 8:52Speaker 1: Williams talked about getting it now, and Zabel in particular,
- 8:55Speaker 1: You're next to me when Zabel was saying how it
- 8:58Speaker 1: bookends and closes a chapter the last season and moves
- 9:01Speaker 1: them mentally onto this season, did you sense that too, that, Okay,
- 9:05Speaker 1: this is our last to run. Now we got to
- 9:07Speaker 1: go to work for July twenty fifth.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it makes I mean just logistically doing it
- 9:12Speaker 4: around Mini camp is makes sense because that's like the
- 9:16Speaker 4: one mandatory part of the offseason calendar.
- 9:18Speaker 3: To doing it when you know you're gonna have.
- 9:20Speaker 4: Everybody there, but also yeah, like if if you're gonna
- 9:23Speaker 4: do this and like it well into trade camp, that
- 9:26Speaker 4: is gonna feel okay, Well, our tensions on twenty twenty six,
- 9:29Speaker 4: and yet we're talking about last year still, which kind
- 9:32Speaker 4: of gets in the way of Mike's ford Mont. So
- 9:35Speaker 4: he did feel like a night's okay, we're wrapping up
- 9:39Speaker 4: mini camp. But they obviously workout program and now one
- 9:41Speaker 4: more celebration. Remember last year forward? It was funny actually,
- 9:45Speaker 4: the the DJ at the event, metro Boom, and he
- 9:49Speaker 4: a couple times to take the mic and say some things.
- 9:52Speaker 4: A lot of times he says something along uns have
- 9:54Speaker 4: you all ready to run it back? And you could
- 9:57Speaker 4: the players go no, they're so in tune with Mike
- 10:01Speaker 4: of no, we're running it forward. So even when the
- 10:03Speaker 4: DJ at the party wants to run it back, they
- 10:05Speaker 4: were correcting them.
- 10:07Speaker 1: For those of us who are not in there, what
- 10:09Speaker 1: is John What is Mike McDonald like in these type
- 10:11Speaker 1: of events?
- 10:12Speaker 2: Is he in characters?
- 10:13Speaker 4: He's having a good time. He's he's not like, all
- 10:17Speaker 4: of a sudden some different person, but he's he's enjoying himself.
- 10:21Speaker 4: From one point, I did notice it was, you know,
- 10:23Speaker 4: pretty late in the night and he and Clint Kubiak
- 10:24Speaker 4: were having a long talks like they're probably talking about some.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Dirdy football stuff right now.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's he's having a good time and
- 10:32Speaker 4: just like everybody else, it's a lot of fun.
- 10:35Speaker 1: All right. You and I are watching practices last few weeks.
- 10:37Speaker 1: What stood out to you about these offseason practices if anything.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Oh, you know, several things, but you know, you were
- 10:44Speaker 4: there yesterday, Like it it felt very like spirited, like
- 10:47Speaker 4: they knew that was the last day they The competition
- 10:50Speaker 4: seemed to kind of ramp up, the trash talk seemed
- 10:52Speaker 4: to ramp up a little bit. You know, I think
- 10:56Speaker 4: we all know this defense is going to be really good,
- 10:58Speaker 4: and they had some really good moments.
- 10:59Speaker 3: But I think one thing that's going to really make
- 11:01Speaker 3: a difference for.
- 11:01Speaker 4: This team this year is, even with the new offensive coordinator,
- 11:04Speaker 4: there's so much more continentity both you know, personnel wise.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Last year you're changing quarterbacks, you're moving on from some
- 11:11Speaker 4: key player including DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. To this year,
- 11:14Speaker 4: it's like you have so much continuity in the offense
- 11:17Speaker 4: and the scheme will be very similar even with a
- 11:19Speaker 4: new head coach. So I think like that we're gonna
- 11:21Speaker 4: see that unit. I think a lot farther ahead than
- 11:22Speaker 4: it was.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Go ahead, Chris gambling man here, or I should say
- 11:27Speaker 2: just betting in general? What is the I would.
- 11:31Speaker 5: Say that I know, John, I am, I completely understand
- 11:36Speaker 5: that John, get it.
- 11:38Speaker 4: But let's say we have a robust gambling.
- 11:41Speaker 5: Yes, let's put the wearing of your ring that you
- 11:45Speaker 5: will get at some point this summer over under at
- 11:48Speaker 5: five and a half you will wear it five and
- 11:50Speaker 5: a half times over under.
- 11:52Speaker 4: That question exactly under. This is not, again, a very
- 11:58Speaker 4: practical piece of jewelry. As much as my eleven year
- 12:02Speaker 4: old wants to take it to school, that ass me
- 12:06Speaker 4: that she's like when you get your rink and I
- 12:07Speaker 4: work as well, I think I'm going to pass on that. Yeah,
- 12:12Speaker 4: this will probably, you know, map to show some family
- 12:14Speaker 4: and friends and then be locked away safely.
- 12:17Speaker 3: I understand you know a lot of people who were.
- 12:19Speaker 4: With the team in twenty thirteen hundred previous rings on.
- 12:21Speaker 4: So maybe we say over as just a really optimistic
- 12:25Speaker 4: hope for the future of the organization.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Well, that's true, okay, fair, we're talking fifteen years.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Hopefully, there's many more parties.
- 12:33Speaker 1: You got to slap a chain on there and let
- 12:35Speaker 1: your goaler at the school the pendant off to bling
- 12:38Speaker 1: that that's going to.
- 12:39Speaker 4: I'm gonna not do that. As much as I as
- 12:42Speaker 4: much as I trust the fifth grader, I'm gonna I'm not.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Well, that probably worth at least fifty sixty thousand dollars
- 12:49Speaker 1: a piece, I would think.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Right I that I don't know, but they're they're not cheap.
- 12:54Speaker 3: I know that.
- 12:55Speaker 1: If they're selling replicas for sixteen thousand, you can bet
- 12:57Speaker 1: they're probably four times that an actual. Ye, John, I appreciate.
- 13:01Speaker 1: I know you got a cold. I know you're trying
- 13:02Speaker 1: to get into the off season for real. Like I am,
- 13:04Speaker 1: appreciate you bringing on. Enjoy the weekend, enjoy the soccer.
- 13:08Speaker 4: No pro guess, John Boyle.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Our friend a long time. He and I have been
- 13:13Speaker 1: working together here in Seattle.
- 13:14Speaker 2: He said.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Nneth Walker was not at the ring ceremony that he
- 13:18Speaker 1: had been telling the Seahawks he would be there. Mike
- 13:20Speaker 1: McDonald said he was very much looking forward to Kenneth
- 13:23Speaker 1: Walker returning after signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, but
- 13:26Speaker 1: apparently was not at the event last night. To get
- 13:30Speaker 1: his ring. What do you do with that? You sent
- 13:31Speaker 1: it in FedEx, you say I got delayed or something.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Who knows, Maybe he'll just pick it up when the
- 13:39Speaker 1: Chiefs and Seahawks play this coming fall and Lumanfield. But no,
- 13:44Speaker 1: it's apparently a couple of people on the text line
- 13:47Speaker 1: asking but Kenneth Walker was not there. But again, the
- 13:51Speaker 1: reason we had John on is first to give you
- 13:53Speaker 1: a feel for where I'm glad he told us it
- 13:55Speaker 1: was at a hangar at Boeing Field. We didn't know that,
- 13:58Speaker 1: And also to underscore the fact that this doesn't happen
- 14:01Speaker 1: every day. This is only the second time ever that
- 14:04Speaker 1: a Seattle Seahawk has received a Super Bowl ring for
- 14:06Speaker 1: winning the game, and it doesn't happen very often around
- 14:10Speaker 1: the league that you get back and do it again
- 14:11Speaker 1: the next year. Yeah, it has happened. It's not impossible,
- 14:15Speaker 1: but it's hard, and there are a lot of things
- 14:17Speaker 1: that have to go in your favor, most of which
- 14:20Speaker 1: being the health of the players and starters to get
- 14:23Speaker 1: back there. And no matter how good your team is,
- 14:25Speaker 1: they just cannot replicate exactly what they had last year.
- 14:28Speaker 1: It will be different in some way, not the least
- 14:31Speaker 1: of which the rams reloading and Miles Garrett and all
- 14:33Speaker 1: of that. But I got to sense yesterday out at
- 14:36Speaker 1: the facility they appreciate the rarity, the uniqueness, the specialness
- 14:40Speaker 1: of last night and getting their rings four nine on
- 14:44Speaker 1: the Komodade Tech nine. You're a part of the show
- 14:47Speaker 1: every day at eleven thirty, and that's what's going to
- 14:49Speaker 1: happen next. On ninety three point three k oh one thing. Sorry,
- 14:52Speaker 1: let me give your keyword before we get a break. Thanks, Chris.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Chris gives me this sheet every day at eleven o'clock
- 14:57Speaker 1: and I forget it every day at eleven oh one.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I just want to let you know that he does
- 15:01Speaker 1: his job. I fail mine this hour. Your chance to
- 15:04Speaker 1: win twenty five hundred dollars go to nine three three
- 15:07Speaker 1: KJR dot com. Enter the word trip trip like he's

- 15:50Speaker 1: the Netherlands, Ecuador, Ivy Coast, Tunisia, Sweden, and of course Monday, Egypt,
- 15:57Speaker 1: Belgium live noon from Womenfield and Seattle. I'll be across
- 16:03Speaker 1: the street at Jimmy's on first broadcasting on Monday morning.
- 16:05Speaker 2: You know what time it is.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Music means it's time to readback your text four nine
- 16:08Speaker 1: four to five one to the komodage text line.
- 16:11Speaker 5: Greg opened up the show asking y'all about your interests
- 16:15Speaker 5: of the World Cup taking place here in Seattle, and
- 16:18Speaker 5: we got a bunch of responses from the three six
- 16:22Speaker 5: oh do not care from the two O six pretty
- 16:25Speaker 5: much watch on the US on a couple other teams
- 16:27Speaker 5: until the final rounds when I watched them all two
- 16:30Speaker 5: O six zero interest in soccer, rooting for USA, but
- 16:33Speaker 5: will not watch two five to three. I played soccer
- 16:36Speaker 5: back in fifth grade through high school, but not really
- 16:39Speaker 5: caring too much about the FIFA from three to six
- 16:42Speaker 5: oh on a scale of zero to ten. My interest
- 16:45Speaker 5: level is Neil well played there, so you know about soccer.
- 16:48Speaker 2: I see what you did there.
- 16:49Speaker 5: Two five three I'll be watching a lot half German.
- 16:52Speaker 5: Grew up with soccer as basically my religion. Four two
- 16:57Speaker 5: five Not interested in soccer in Seattle is pushing this
- 17:00Speaker 5: mayhem went from actually just leave it at that, uh
- 17:04Speaker 5: from three to six Oho. Not the biggest soccer fan,
- 17:06Speaker 5: but I will definitely watch them, maybe all night matches,
- 17:10Speaker 5: just you know, to go along with Mariners games, but
- 17:12Speaker 5: probably won't watch too many other countries. From a four
- 17:15Speaker 5: to two five big fan, going to watch every single
- 17:17Speaker 5: game I can. We'll be down there for the Belgium
- 17:20Speaker 5: and Egypt on Friday match on six nineteen, and that's
- 17:24Speaker 5: that's our O day guy.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Yeah, coach guard guy, thanks for that two oh six
- 17:29Speaker 1: said admitted local lifelong soccer player parents Sounders season ticket holder,
- 17:34Speaker 1: lover of the game. Being a host country of the
- 17:36Speaker 1: World Cup as an honor, regardless of the issues around
- 17:39Speaker 1: the cost et cetera. Being a host city takes it
- 17:41Speaker 1: to another level for locals that don't care about soccer.
- 17:44Speaker 1: I recommend people watching and enjoying the passion of tourists
- 17:48Speaker 1: who no doubt will have a blast experiencing our region
- 17:51Speaker 1: in addition to the great game in a world class stadium. Enjoy.
- 17:57Speaker 5: I'm guessing the barge offers a great background view of
- 18:01Speaker 5: downtown from the two to six.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Yes it does, and the Ferris Wheel, the Great Wheel
- 18:07Speaker 1: and Eliot Bay and with the day this clear, probably
- 18:11Speaker 1: the Olympics mountains in the distance. Yeah, it's pretty cool
- 18:15Speaker 1: to us.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Six points out. Thank you that the barge.
- 18:18Speaker 1: All the proceeds from the fan barge for the World
- 18:21Speaker 1: Cup on off of Peer sixty two go to the
- 18:23Speaker 1: Ray Foundation, the Sounders and Rains Charitable Community Fund.
- 18:28Speaker 2: So that's cool.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Fifty two dollars to go onto the barge two hundred
- 18:31Speaker 1: and twenty seventy one vip up on the lows.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Level, this is a fun one. From the five, eight
- 18:37Speaker 2: to five.
- 18:38Speaker 1: That's our buddy, that Rochester.
- 18:41Speaker 5: Greg and Chris with the World Cup starting. What sports
- 18:43Speaker 5: do you not care about watching at all? Mine is
- 18:46Speaker 5: fighting sports. I cannot get into boxing, UFC and especially WWE.
- 18:52Speaker 2: I got say I'm with you on the wrestling.
- 18:55Speaker 5: As a as a young man growing up, I enjoyed
- 18:57Speaker 5: it from my maybe teenage years eleven to like sixteen,
- 19:01Speaker 5: and then after a while I just got like man.
- 19:04Speaker 5: But now that I understand the backstory of it, I
- 19:06Speaker 5: probably could get back into it, but I.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Don't watch it anymore. So I'm with you with the wrestling.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I agree with Rochester on UFC and MMA can't get me.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I did I boxed at West Point. You had the box.
- 19:19Speaker 1: It was a mandatory graduation required.
- 19:22Speaker 5: No, I was slow, and you see a bit of
- 19:25Speaker 5: him beating up somebody from talking crazy to him.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I know how to rip your voice box out, But no,
- 19:31Speaker 2: that's all you need. Greg. They didn't say, you know
- 19:33Speaker 2: there's a tactic to this.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Can you win the fight? They told me how to
- 19:37Speaker 1: rip a voice box out. I've never practiced it because
- 19:39Speaker 1: it's a human nature. I think you'll be okay. If
- 19:41Speaker 1: your life depended on it, you will have a voice
- 19:43Speaker 1: box in your hand.
- 19:46Speaker 2: But no, UFC and MMA not for me. Non combative sports.
- 19:51Speaker 1: I don't like. That's a good question.
- 19:53Speaker 2: I wish I understood curling. I can't get into it
- 19:56Speaker 2: well better than me. I've never even tried to watch it.
- 19:59Speaker 1: I even went to the Granite Club up on across
- 20:02Speaker 1: from Ingram walk right out.
- 20:04Speaker 2: I stayed. We tried. I just couldn't get it, but
- 20:09Speaker 2: we tried it. He's tried what we do. It was
- 20:12Speaker 2: kind of cool. I guess showed me the motion.
- 20:17Speaker 5: Yeah, it's not easy, it's I don't think i'd be
- 20:21Speaker 5: any good to watch. Yeah, that's the I'm combative sport. Yeah,
- 20:26Speaker 5: curling is probably way up there for me. But I
- 20:28Speaker 5: would never think, huh, curling's on TV. I would just
- 20:33Speaker 5: skip right on through. I like bowling. I could watch bowling,
- 20:36Speaker 5: really bowling on TV.
- 20:38Speaker 2: You know, you.
- 20:38Speaker 5: Remember that moment where the gentleman won and said, who
- 20:41Speaker 5: the hell do you think you are? That was probably
- 20:44Speaker 5: the greatest bowling one that was.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Who was?
- 20:46Speaker 1: I can picture him, but I can't remember his name.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Someone on the text line exactly I will not be
- 20:52Speaker 1: attending the three six says I'll be staying as far
- 20:54Speaker 1: away from Seattle as possible. That's a lot of people
- 20:57Speaker 1: think that way. Of course, three six O means you're
- 20:58Speaker 1: not in Seattle to begin with. Two six Adidas and
- 21:02Speaker 1: Timbers are hosting a four day watch party here in
- 21:04Speaker 1: downtown Portland for all games through Monday. I think I'll
- 21:07Speaker 1: go watch the Canada game in my all USA gear,
- 21:10Speaker 1: Canada and Balsia Herzegovina kick off in about twenty minutes
- 21:13Speaker 1: in Toronto.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Enjoy the games.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Two o six All Zip Interest World Cup bringing half
- 21:23Speaker 1: a million visitors Seattle awesome because of that on slate
- 21:26Speaker 1: Nae Fox of money blah blah blah, two o six.
- 21:31Speaker 1: When I played high school football, our football coach required
- 21:34Speaker 1: you to do at least one other high school sport
- 21:37Speaker 1: or prove you were doing something athletic outside of school karate, club, soccer,
- 21:41Speaker 1: et cetera. But that was the late nineteen eighties.
- 21:43Speaker 2: That's a great coach. That is a great coach.
- 21:46Speaker 1: And the NFL coaches that I talked to, Pete Carroll,
- 21:48Speaker 1: Mike McDonald, guy all around the league, the Harbaughs, they
- 21:53Speaker 1: all extlore the values of playing multiple sports and the
- 21:57Speaker 1: trend in this sports toward singular sports. It's in all
- 22:00Speaker 1: around baseball travel teams and AAU basketball teams and seven
- 22:04Speaker 1: on seven football teams that take up all of their
- 22:07Speaker 1: offseasons and then you only play one sport is wrong.
- 22:10Speaker 1: It's a money grab, it's for for profit. It's all
- 22:13Speaker 1: about what's wrong in youth sports. Diversify. Pete Carroll talked
- 22:18Speaker 1: all the time about he wanted players football players for
- 22:21Speaker 1: the Seahawks who stood at the file line with a
- 22:24Speaker 1: second left in the game and the pressure of that
- 22:26Speaker 1: who stared down a pitch at three to two, bottom
- 22:28Speaker 1: of the ninth, bottom of the seventh of a high
- 22:30Speaker 1: school game with a game on the line. He wanted
- 22:32Speaker 1: players like that who had to sink a forty foot
- 22:34Speaker 1: putt to win a prep a youth golf tournament. He
- 22:38Speaker 1: wanted that as a football player. But now it's oh,
- 22:42Speaker 1: these kids got to go to a seven on seven
- 22:44Speaker 1: flag whatever tournament in June in Arizona that cost five
- 22:49Speaker 1: thousand dollars, or some performance center or AAU travel basketball
- 22:55Speaker 1: or travel baseball or gymnastics or what have you.
- 22:58Speaker 2: It's soccer. If you go on not about soccer and
- 23:01Speaker 2: youe soccer, it's ridiculous.
- 23:03Speaker 1: So hats off to you and the two oh six
- 23:05Speaker 1: who had a coach who saw the importance of playing more.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I played four sports in high school and it was
- 23:10Speaker 1: really glad I did. But soccer and football wouldn't max. So, oh, well,
- 23:17Speaker 1: I'll be watching it. Let's see, I'm a soccer fan.
- 23:20Speaker 1: I am not three successes. I am not a soccer
- 23:22Speaker 1: fan at all, but I will definitely watch some of
- 23:24Speaker 1: maybe all of tonight's match along with the Mariners game,
- 23:27Speaker 1: but I probably won't watch other countries matches. There are
- 23:29Speaker 1: a lot of people like that who will watch that.
- 23:31Speaker 1: They will watch the US matches, and rightly so. I
- 23:40Speaker 1: do not care you or said that ghost Seahawks said
- 23:43Speaker 1: to two five three, I get that.
- 23:45Speaker 2: It's three six? Oh isn't it?
- 23:46Speaker 1: Isn't Ian Farness a former star soccer player at oday?
- 23:50Speaker 2: It depends what you call star.
- 23:52Speaker 1: How do you define the word start? I know he
- 23:56Speaker 1: played soccer at oday, but I don't know if he
- 23:59Speaker 1: was a n't have to ask.
- 24:01Speaker 5: He is going to be very like, oh, you know,
- 24:03Speaker 5: it's pretty good. He's not gonna Yeah, he won't.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Was he a star?
- 24:05Speaker 2: Is his name on the waldo day for an? It
- 24:07Speaker 2: probably is, and he won't. Even if it is.
- 24:09Speaker 5: His name's on the walledo deck. I wouldn't be surprised. Really, yeah,
- 24:12Speaker 5: look what he's done.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Is your name on the wall? Absolutely not. I'm on
- 24:16Speaker 2: the top ten of long jump, you know, so your
- 24:18Speaker 2: name is on the walleto deck. I don't know it's
- 24:20Speaker 2: not on the wall. I don't.
- 24:21Speaker 5: It might be in all like Breezeway, because I'm top
- 24:23Speaker 5: ten all time in the long jump. Now I just
- 24:25Speaker 5: moved down the seventh because some kid, you know, he
- 24:28Speaker 5: did really well.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Did you meet him? I haven't met him.
- 24:31Speaker 5: But the guy that is leading us, he jumped like
- 24:33Speaker 5: twenty three feet and he was back in nineteen seventy something.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Would you jump? I jumped twenty one to four. Really, yeah,
- 24:39Speaker 2: that's not shabby.
- 24:40Speaker 5: It's not And then I got hurt because I thought
- 24:42Speaker 5: I was gonna go to state and win it, but
- 24:44Speaker 5: I got hurt.
- 24:44Speaker 2: So it is what it is. It would be nice
- 24:47Speaker 2: to do that, but the fact that I'm still the
- 24:48Speaker 2: top ten is kind of cool.
- 24:49Speaker 5: Wonder how long I'll be up there? It spend what
- 24:51Speaker 5: thirteen years? So we'll say if it you know how
- 24:54Speaker 5: long that stands? Hugh Bruce Springsteen's Glory Day music. That's
- 24:59Speaker 5: what my kids would be saying right now, Cory Days. Yeah,
- 25:03Speaker 5: I get that a lot at home.
- 25:04Speaker 1: And for Nas the mayor, Maple Valley, the Star player,
- 25:08Speaker 1: former day high school soccer player joins us Next on
- 25:11Speaker 1: ninety three point three kJ RFM, Welcome Back Craig bellin
- 25:19Speaker 1: newstribute Christopher Kidd with you as we are every weekday
- 25:21Speaker 1: ten am to noon on ninety three point three kJ
- 25:23Speaker 1: RM again the World Cup starting back up again in
- 25:26Speaker 1: about ten minutes time in Toronto, Canada, Bosnia, Herzegovina, and
- 25:31Speaker 1: then tonight six pm the US and Paraguay and Englewood
- 25:35Speaker 1: at SOFI Stadium live here on our air, ninety three
- 25:37Speaker 1: point three KJRFM at six pm.
- 25:41Speaker 2: I'm well, thank you.
- 25:42Speaker 1: What's the upshot of the crack and hiring the fired
- 25:45Speaker 1: Canucks GM as assistant.
- 25:47Speaker 6: Jatrick Alvin good hockey guy didn't really run the show there.
- 25:51Speaker 6: He was kind of a puppet for Jim Rutherford. Has
- 25:56Speaker 6: you know we had Thomas transon from Vancouver yesterday who
- 25:58Speaker 6: would be the first to criticize if he be. I
- 26:00Speaker 6: can say I like Thomas, but BB and he said,
- 26:03Speaker 6: well respected in the hockey community, well respected in the
- 26:06Speaker 6: scouting and personnel circles. Gives Jason botroll a I think
- 26:10Speaker 6: an experienced right hand man in that regard. Ryan Jankowski,
- 26:15Speaker 6: Alexandra MANDRICKI and are the other two assistant gms that
- 26:19Speaker 6: deal with personnel and so forth. But they're not at
- 26:23Speaker 6: the there their titles, their expertise or experiences different than
- 26:28Speaker 6: Patrick Alvin. And then the third one is is Ricky
- 26:30Speaker 6: Olchek and he's he's assisant GM, but he's basically their
- 26:33Speaker 6: salary cap guy. He's the old Matt Thomas. So uh,
- 26:37Speaker 6: it was a position you certainly probably in some ways
- 26:39Speaker 6: needed kind of replacing Botroll's position that wasn't replaced last
- 26:45Speaker 6: year when he got bumped up, right, So yeah, I
- 26:49Speaker 6: think it's I think it's a good move.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I think it's a good you know.
- 26:53Speaker 6: I mean you, on the surface, Vancouver fired, Vancouver Canucks GM,
- 26:58Speaker 6: worst team in the league, You're like, what the hell?
- 27:00Speaker 6: And then you kind of look at how actually it
- 27:01Speaker 6: ran there, and it was it was very It wasn't
- 27:04Speaker 6: like here where it was Ron Francis Jason bott Roll,
- 27:08Speaker 6: but Francis was just kind of up in a bigger
- 27:10Speaker 6: kind of on the exit plan. It was all Boughts
- 27:13Speaker 6: last year with your fronsibility. The model they had in
- 27:17Speaker 6: Vancouver with Jim Rutherford and Patrick Alvin was a lot
- 27:22Speaker 6: like Jerry Depoto and Justin Hollander, if.
- 27:24Speaker 2: That makes sense. Yeah, right, we all know who runs a.
- 27:26Speaker 6: Show and ain't Justin.
- 27:31Speaker 2: So botterlerel of course, he used to be the Sabers GM.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of seventeen to twenty and a lot
- 27:37Speaker 1: of people in Western New York chuckle when you wear
- 27:39Speaker 1: that bottrel is now cracking. What's different under him than
- 27:43Speaker 1: under Francis.
- 27:44Speaker 6: You can ask me that about July third or fourth, honest,
- 27:47Speaker 6: after the draft and free agency, because I can't tell
- 27:50Speaker 6: you right now. I wish I could have. I wish
- 27:51Speaker 6: I can't tell you. But they have money to spend,
- 27:54Speaker 6: as so does everybody else. Okay, that's a problem with
- 27:56Speaker 6: the league. It's the solar CAP's gone up so much
- 27:58Speaker 6: that everybody has money. The free classes awful. Uh So
- 28:01Speaker 6: you've got to go out and get aggressive, like trade
- 28:05Speaker 6: draft picks and trade prospects, and trade some guys that
- 28:09Speaker 6: might be popular for the fan bait. You've got to
- 28:12Speaker 6: do some uncomfortable things this this next three four five
- 28:15Speaker 6: weeks period into story. I don't think there's an option.
- 28:18Speaker 6: I don't think the option is stamp pat. If you
- 28:21Speaker 6: stand pat, You're just you're cutting yourself off at the knees.
- 28:25Speaker 6: You're making it really hard on the business side to
- 28:27Speaker 6: try to get people excited about hockey. You've got to
- 28:29Speaker 6: do some things so there's a lot of rumors about
- 28:31Speaker 6: there about Matthew Barzel.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Yep.
- 28:32Speaker 6: So we'll see if that maybe becomes fruition. That would
- 28:34Speaker 6: be a that would want one.
- 28:35Speaker 1: That would be a big fish.
- 28:36Speaker 2: That'd be a big fish.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:37Speaker 6: Number one center. They don't have a number one center. Sorry, Maddie,
- 28:40Speaker 6: You're not a number one center just the way it is.
- 28:42Speaker 6: So yeah, they gotta I think move Shane rights. Matty's
- 28:47Speaker 6: a two. Janeler Stevens is a three. All of a sudden,
- 28:49Speaker 6: you're a lot better at that point. Move Shane right
- 28:51Speaker 6: hell yeah yeah, are you still young? Yep, just not
- 28:55Speaker 6: working here, And I think I think for the for
- 28:57Speaker 6: the for his sake and.
- 28:58Speaker 2: For the team's sake. Sometimes she's got move on.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Those are some of the tough Movisians talking about what
- 29:04Speaker 1: do you got on the show today?
- 29:06Speaker 6: We got a Daniel and Neil weekly visit one twenty
- 29:09Speaker 6: today and then we'll check in with Corbyn Smith at
- 29:11Speaker 6: two and we'll talk a little World Cup and a
- 29:14Speaker 6: lot of Seahawks as well.
- 29:15Speaker 2: I had a great conversation yes with Drake Thomas.
- 29:17Speaker 6: Revisit some of that coming up at twelve twenty today
- 29:19Speaker 6: or twelve thirty fun Gouty A toxic, great story. I
- 29:22Speaker 6: love the story. I'm like you, I like the stories. Yeah,
- 29:24Speaker 6: I like the I mean there's a lot of big
- 29:26Speaker 6: names we can talk to. I like the good stories.
- 29:27Speaker 6: We had Tyle cod On a couple weeks ago. Great story,
- 29:29Speaker 6: Drake Thomas the same thing. Neither one of those guys
- 29:31Speaker 6: looks like an NFL player. No, I mean they're just
- 29:34Speaker 6: not big. They're not huge, they're not but boy, both
- 29:37Speaker 6: are just great stories. And they're both exactly and it's
- 29:40Speaker 6: what I would think you would agree with. This one
- 29:42Speaker 6: of the shared characteristics of Mike, of Mike McDonald and
- 29:45Speaker 6: Pete Carroll and probably it's the GM right as much
- 29:49Speaker 6: as anything. They don't care. And I'm not saying we
- 29:53Speaker 6: don't care. We didn't care. They don't care where you
- 29:55Speaker 6: came from or where you were drafted, or what you
- 29:58Speaker 6: look like, or how fast you at the combine or
- 30:00Speaker 6: what percentile you are in.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Can you play football?
- 30:03Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 30:04Speaker 2: Can you play football?
- 30:05Speaker 6: And Mike McDonald found two guys in Okata and and
- 30:09Speaker 6: and Drake Thomas ended up being starters for them and
- 30:11Speaker 6: key contributors. Thomas I had him break down the play
- 30:14Speaker 6: the interception because I was thinking to myself everyone was
- 30:18Speaker 6: raving about the ball skills, which they were like, yeah,
- 30:22Speaker 6: because the ball was kind of tipped a little bit
- 30:23Speaker 6: by Mafe McCaffrey probably should have caught. It still goes off,
- 30:27Speaker 6: but you still have to make a great play hands
- 30:29Speaker 6: wise if you're Drake Thomas at the goal line in
- 30:31Speaker 6: that game, in that last game against the forty nine ers,
- 30:33Speaker 6: ten point game or thirteen point game at that point,
- 30:35Speaker 6: could have been a three point game they score, right,
- 30:38Speaker 6: and I was thinking he had to, Like there was
- 30:42Speaker 6: a read on that play for the linebacker with McCaffrey
- 30:45Speaker 6: coming out of the backfield, and he did. We'll hear
- 30:48Speaker 6: this at twelve thirty, a great breakdown of he's going
- 30:51Speaker 6: to do this or he's gonna do that. I had
- 30:52Speaker 6: to react here or be there. He was there, he's
- 30:55Speaker 6: gonna make the tackle. McCaffrey's not going to But it
- 30:57Speaker 6: was just a great read, great play, and that's one
- 30:58Speaker 6: of the reasons the guys playing, you know, he's Mike
- 31:01Speaker 6: McDonald's guy.
- 31:02Speaker 2: In a very cerebral defense from I'm mistaken it was
- 31:05Speaker 2: a ten to three game at the time or thirteen three,
- 31:08Speaker 2: because I think I think that I think thirteen. I
- 31:11Speaker 2: thought the sas then went down and kicked the Clinton
- 31:12Speaker 2: was his tempoint game. It's a tempoint game.
- 31:15Speaker 1: I thought that might have been. They start, Okata and
- 31:20Speaker 1: Thomas start because of how good they are practicing. They
- 31:23Speaker 1: are exquisite practice players like to a detail to a t.
- 31:27Speaker 6: They know everything and where to be and how to
- 31:29Speaker 6: be there. And not every guy in your team is
- 31:33Speaker 6: going to be an all pro, right just I mean,
- 31:36Speaker 6: I know we all want to and right maybe rightfully
- 31:38Speaker 6: so wrongfully so we all want to bash in the
- 31:40Speaker 6: right guard. Not every player is not all twenty two
- 31:42Speaker 6: guys are going to be great.
- 31:44Speaker 1: By the way, Anthony Bradford is the starting right guard
- 31:46Speaker 1: and I don't see anything yet changing that.
- 31:48Speaker 2: If you want to know, I mean, it's going to
- 31:50Speaker 2: take a lot.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. We Bo Stevens, the rookie fifth round pick,
- 31:54Speaker 1: is well behind. He was third string the.
- 31:56Speaker 6: Whole OTAs and Mini camp. When Bradford missed a couple
- 32:01Speaker 6: on the way when he was out there, there was
- 32:05Speaker 6: no question, no none, no, that was it was the
- 32:08Speaker 6: offensive line looked If you want to know what the
- 32:10Speaker 6: offensive line looked like, look at the Super.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Bowl and John Benton, the offensive line coach, loves Anthony
- 32:14Speaker 1: Bradford loves his physicality. I signed pick up a one
- 32:18Speaker 1: man sled yesterday and about throw it. Yeah, and nobody
- 32:21Speaker 1: else goes even lifting out the ground and Bradford almost
- 32:23Speaker 1: picked up him through it.
- 32:24Speaker 2: And John Bent was like, that's amazing, that's awesome.
- 32:27Speaker 6: Well he brings he brings up an attitude that I
- 32:30Speaker 6: don't know if it exists with the other guys, like
- 32:34Speaker 6: like he has. There's a little DJ flucker, there's a yeah,
- 32:37Speaker 6: there's a little i'll use a gym warre terms a
- 32:38Speaker 6: little dirt bagging him, a little dirt bagging him, which
- 32:41Speaker 6: I think.
- 32:41Speaker 2: I'm sure Benton loves. You know all right? Were you
- 32:44Speaker 2: a soccer star at Oday? That's what the text text
- 32:47Speaker 2: line as star star.
- 32:51Speaker 6: I almost let him go without asking Chris Star No,
- 32:55Speaker 6: uh no, I played on it when I was at Oday.
- 33:00Speaker 6: And I don't know how their team is now, I'm
- 33:01Speaker 6: not sure. But when I was at Oday, we were
- 33:04Speaker 6: all four years I was there, I didn't play varsital
- 33:07Speaker 6: four years, but all four years I was there, we
- 33:09Speaker 6: were ranked as the number one team in the state.
- 33:11Speaker 6: We never won a state title, got knocked out by
- 33:13Speaker 6: the Schmitzer Boys my senior year.
- 33:16Speaker 2: They were good at soccer. I don't know if you've
- 33:17Speaker 2: ever heard.
- 33:17Speaker 6: I heard, yeah they played for Nathan They actually they
- 33:20Speaker 6: were a legitimate Nathan Hale team, not one that was
- 33:23Speaker 6: bought and paid for it. But no, I was okay.
- 33:27Speaker 6: We had a great team. We had great I mean
- 33:29Speaker 6: O date Pat Rainey was our coach, great programs you played.
- 33:32Speaker 6: I was a goalie, you were a goalie, a keeper.
- 33:35Speaker 6: I would not have guessed that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I
- 33:38Speaker 6: was defender. Yeah, was outside back.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:41Speaker 6: I was about one seventy five one eighty back then,
- 33:43Speaker 6: so a little bit a little bit lighter five pounds, yeah,
- 33:46Speaker 6: just five pounds from where I am now.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Sure. But other keeper, Steve McChesney was better than me.
- 33:52Speaker 2: He was our number one guy. I was number two.
- 33:53Speaker 6: But we we combined to allow fewer goals and I
- 33:56Speaker 6: think any any year school history. So yeah, we were
- 33:58Speaker 6: all right, but we had guys. I mean there were
- 34:00Speaker 6: games we didn't see the ball, like we're that good.
- 34:03Speaker 6: Like half our team got drafted in an ASL. The
- 34:06Speaker 6: other half was playing in Division one soccer or at
- 34:09Speaker 6: worst playing at Seattle Pacific D two which was better
- 34:11Speaker 6: than most D one schools with Cliff McGrath, I was
- 34:14Speaker 6: the exception. So to say I was a star, no,
- 34:16Speaker 6: I was the I was the outlier. I just was there.
- 34:18Speaker 2: There you have it.
- 34:20Speaker 1: I was there.
- 34:21Speaker 2: I was there.
- 34:21Speaker 6: I was good enough to be on the best team
- 34:24Speaker 6: in the state. I was not one of the better
- 34:26Speaker 6: players by any stretch.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Now we know. Yeah, there's the official word from me,
- 34:29Speaker 1: and yeah, all right, we're late. It's Ian's time, so
- 34:32Speaker 1: I don't care see it.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Have a great weekend. Thanks for listening.
- 34:36Speaker 1: I will talk to you from Jimmy's on First across
- 34:38Speaker 1: the street from the World Cup in Seattle on Monday morning.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Thanks for listening, Thanks for everything.
- 34:41Speaker 1: To Chris, I have a great weekend, and Ian and
- 34:45Speaker 1: Anders are up next to ninety three point three kJ
- 34:47Speaker 1: r FM.
