- 1:52Speaker 3: What up everybody? Events? Right, we are back on the
- 1:55Speaker 3: Sports Done Right podcast, affectionately known as a Sports Cup Minnesota,
- 2:00Speaker 3: coming to you from the Situation Room here at the
- 2:05Speaker 3: Sports Governor Mansion. All right, let's just get right into it.
- 2:09Speaker 3: First off, shout out to our main sponsor, Seventh Avenue Pizza,
- 2:14Speaker 3: the best frozen pizza out there. All about the ingredients
- 2:18Speaker 3: the Nelson family. Not only do they make great ice cream,
- 2:21Speaker 3: great jerky, the best frozen pizza. Make sure you get
- 2:25Speaker 3: you some, as I like to say, Seventh Avenue Pizza.
- 2:30Speaker 3: All right, folks, I'm a little late on the Quasy news.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Vikings fire their general manager. Somebody had to take the
- 2:40Speaker 3: hit for this. JJ McCarthy and all this stuff, YadA, YadA, YadA.
- 2:45Speaker 3: To be fair, a lot of Quazies draft picks just
- 2:50Speaker 3: haven't been hitting. That's the other thing too, that's kind
- 2:52Speaker 3: of getting not discussed a lot here in terms of
- 2:57Speaker 3: that because it's all getting lost in the quarterback news
- 3:00Speaker 3: with JJ and whatnot. So I'm not going to talk
- 3:03Speaker 3: too much about it just because I'm a little late
- 3:05Speaker 3: on that. You've already heard a bunch of different opinions.
- 3:07Speaker 3: But my opinion, would I've made that call. Probably not.
- 3:12Speaker 3: I probably would have given another year. But I can
- 3:16Speaker 3: kind of understand, kind of get it well. Like I said,
- 3:22Speaker 3: you know a lot of his picks and from the
- 3:25Speaker 3: draft just have not been hitting. And you know, I've
- 3:29Speaker 3: been talking with a lot of people. I was on
- 3:31Speaker 3: a couple shows outside of the state, and you know,
- 3:35Speaker 3: one of the things I think that maybe the Vikings
- 3:38Speaker 3: got enamored with too, was, you know, JJ McCarthy winning
- 3:41Speaker 3: that championship at Michigan. I think there was something about
- 3:45Speaker 3: drafting a quote unquote national championship winning quarterback. You know,
- 3:52Speaker 3: it just has that ring to it. You can put
- 3:54Speaker 3: it out there blah blah blah. But you know, if
- 3:58Speaker 3: you go back and look, you know, Michigan relied a
- 4:02Speaker 3: lot on that running game, Blake Quorum. They had some
- 4:04Speaker 3: good receivers, but they didn't ask JJ in college, you know,
- 4:08Speaker 3: Harold didn't ask him to do a whole lot. You know,
- 4:12Speaker 3: he had some nice passes. Obviously they won a national championship,
- 4:17Speaker 3: but yeah, I just don't know, and obviously he has
- 4:21Speaker 3: not been able to stay healthy enough to be on
- 4:25Speaker 3: the field to get a real good evaluation of his talent.
- 4:29Speaker 3: And all of a sudden vikings in Trouble because you know,
- 4:36Speaker 3: you got this huge, absolutely huge quarterback question hanging over
- 4:40Speaker 3: the franchise. Now got to bring in a new GM.
- 4:43Speaker 3: And by the way, the quarterback that comes in alongside JJ,
- 4:48Speaker 3: he has to be ready to play. He has to
- 4:50Speaker 3: be ready to push JJ because and I think they've
- 4:54Speaker 3: kind of alluded to it. You know, it can be
- 4:55Speaker 3: an open job, and you know, best quarterback wins.
- 5:02Speaker 4: You know.
- 5:02Speaker 3: To be fair to JJ, he has you know, he's
- 5:05Speaker 3: looked good at times. He's had some nice throws at times,
- 5:07Speaker 3: of course, but as bad as this has all been, somehow,
- 5:12Speaker 3: you know, Justin Jefferson still got a thousand yards. Can
- 5:15Speaker 3: you imagine if JJ was decent this year. I mean,
- 5:20Speaker 3: Justin Jefferson may have went for two thousand yards. I mean,
- 5:23Speaker 3: as crazy as that that shit sounds, but man, I yeah,
- 5:27Speaker 3: So the vikings all of a sudden kind of I
- 5:30Speaker 3: don't want to say in the world of trouble, but yeah,
- 5:32Speaker 3: some major decisions that they have to hit on here upcoming.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Good luck, good luck. All right, we're gonna keep it
- 5:43Speaker 3: moving here and I again, this is Evins Right on
- 5:45Speaker 3: the Sports Done Right podcasts. You can find the podcast
- 5:49Speaker 3: on all major streaming platforms, and I want to thank you.
- 5:52Speaker 3: We've been doing this for over ten years now. I
- 5:55Speaker 3: want to give a shout out to Troy Geary, will Stein,
- 6:00Speaker 3: the Gary Stein and Oh what is it? I had
- 6:03Speaker 3: it written down here their show and some other podcast
- 6:09Speaker 3: friends of mine. They are big time. No they're down
- 6:12Speaker 3: in Super Bowl and it just reminded me because they
- 6:15Speaker 3: invited me down when I was in Phoenix and was
- 6:17Speaker 3: able to go down to Radio Row and you know,
- 6:19Speaker 3: kind of meet the legends, get the pictures, all that stuff. Yeah,
- 6:25Speaker 3: Gary Stein and Stevens Show. Sorry about that. Make sure
- 6:29Speaker 3: you check out their podcasts as well. But just wanted
- 6:31Speaker 3: to give those homies some a quick shout out because
- 6:33Speaker 3: they took care of me. And if you ever get
- 6:36Speaker 3: the chance, if you're in the podcast or in the
- 6:39Speaker 3: media and you can go to Radio Row, you gotta
- 6:41Speaker 3: do it once in a lifetime experience, man. All Right.
- 6:45Speaker 3: With that being said, Sports Governor was also live at
- 6:49Speaker 3: the Minnesota Golden Gopher game last night. Men's hoops. Boy,
- 6:55Speaker 3: it was good for a long time. They got it
- 6:59Speaker 3: up to about what a fifth teen to sixteen point
- 7:01Speaker 3: lead midway through the second half. Oh, it was like
- 7:04Speaker 3: the Gophers finally gonna do it. But then here comes
- 7:07Speaker 3: Michigan State and they just start hoisting threes. But in
- 7:10Speaker 3: the end, Minnesota holds on gets the win over the
- 7:17Speaker 3: tenth ranked Michigan State Spartans seventy six to seventy three.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Jalen Crocker Johnson, the big forward number five, led the
- 7:27Speaker 3: way with twenty two points. Here's the thing, the Gophers
- 7:31Speaker 3: starters did all the scoring, no bench scoring whatsoever. Zero
- 7:35Speaker 3: points from the bench. And I'll speak on that in
- 7:40Speaker 3: a minute. But you know, nice games from Isaaca Ossama.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Bobby Durkin had thirteen points, Kay Tyson had seventeen. But man,
- 7:54Speaker 3: what I like about this Gopher team the first off,
- 7:56Speaker 3: just the ball movement is a lot better than it
- 8:00Speaker 3: has been the past couple of years under Ben Johnson.
- 8:03Speaker 3: They just flow. I love the way that they just
- 8:06Speaker 3: they don't stop moving, or at least last night when
- 8:08Speaker 3: I was there, offense always in motion. And you know,
- 8:15Speaker 3: I'm going to talk here part of the show a
- 8:17Speaker 3: little bit later on in kind of the state of
- 8:18Speaker 3: the NBA and big men in general, you know, because
- 8:22Speaker 3: people just love the hoystuff, these threes. But man, I
- 8:25Speaker 3: have to Gophers could develop somebody in that low post.
- 8:29Speaker 3: They could They might be able to dominate a little bit,
- 8:34Speaker 3: could be Jalen Crocker Johnson. But irregardless, a real good
- 8:40Speaker 3: effort last night. The Gophers just played hard and as
- 8:44Speaker 3: Michigan State started mounting their comeback because they just went
- 8:47Speaker 3: three crazy and they were hitting them and it's Michigan State,
- 8:51Speaker 3: it's you know, tom Izzo's you know, he just knows
- 8:54Speaker 3: how to coach. He's a legend Hall of Famer, and
- 8:57Speaker 3: here comes Michigan State all the sudden. Man, it was
- 9:01Speaker 3: just like, you cannot be making this up. Now that's
- 9:04Speaker 3: down to three. I mean we were just up like fifteen, sixteen,
- 9:08Speaker 3: seventeen points. But fortunately Minnesota holds on. They get that win,
- 9:15Speaker 3: kids get the storm to court, all that fun stuff.
- 9:18Speaker 3: But just they much need to win because look, legal
- 9:22Speaker 3: Medved has done a I think he's done a really
- 9:25Speaker 3: good job. Even though the Gophers are still they're just
- 9:28Speaker 3: only eleven and twelve. They really should have a few
- 9:32Speaker 3: more victories. But they have just been on the wrong
- 9:35Speaker 3: side of some losses here recently where they've done everything
- 9:41Speaker 3: but win the game, let's say. And it was just
- 9:44Speaker 3: really good to see that the effort paid off. Yeah,
- 9:47Speaker 3: it almost came back to haunt him again last night,
- 9:50Speaker 3: but they got the win at home and can start
- 9:53Speaker 3: building hopefully on this win over Sparty real quick. Here
- 10:00Speaker 3: on the Michigan State side, you know, Izzo just he
- 10:05Speaker 3: knows how to coach his team big Vard Corn Carr
- 10:09Speaker 3: had sixteen points, Jeremy Fears had ten, and Jordan Scott
- 10:14Speaker 3: fifteen points and Trey Fort had twelve as well for
- 10:19Speaker 3: the Michigan State. And you know, Michigan State's a good team.
- 10:23Speaker 3: You know, we were talking in the first half, me
- 10:25Speaker 3: and my son and friend that were at the game.
- 10:27Speaker 3: We were talking, Hey, this could be a Final Four
- 10:30Speaker 3: type of team for Tom Izzo. They are. They're just solid.
- 10:35Speaker 3: They seem to just know where to be good rebounds
- 10:39Speaker 3: on defense. And you know, the one thing that really
- 10:43Speaker 3: kind of hurt again with the Gophers got to get
- 10:45Speaker 3: better on the free throws. You know, as this game
- 10:48Speaker 3: was getting close towards the end of the game, Gophers
- 10:51Speaker 3: a lot of you know, one and ones on the
- 10:53Speaker 3: free throw line. That's gonna come back to haunt them
- 10:56Speaker 3: at the wrong time. They got away with it last
- 10:58Speaker 3: night because if they hit those free throws, you know,
- 11:03Speaker 3: they probably win by at least six points, six seven points.
- 11:06Speaker 3: So hey, folks, I'm just gonna tell you, glad we
- 11:11Speaker 3: got to win eleven and twelve Michigan State's nineteen and four,
- 11:17Speaker 3: and we'll see what happens from here. You know, let's
- 11:21Speaker 3: just try and keep building this thing. And you know,
- 11:24Speaker 3: if the Gophers can land in any type of postseason tournament,
- 11:28Speaker 3: we'll see if that happens. But things are going the
- 11:31Speaker 3: right way under coach Medved and I feel very very
- 11:35Speaker 3: confident in our program people. With that being said, huge
- 11:43Speaker 3: win for the Ladies tonight women basketball team ninety one
- 11:47Speaker 3: eighty five over the number ten rank Iowa Hawk Guys.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Gotta like that. Go for programs taking out top ten programs,
- 11:56Speaker 3: gotta like it. But yeah, it kind of a replay
- 12:00Speaker 3: from last night. However, the Ladies went up big as
- 12:04Speaker 3: well and Iowa in the last quarter. Remember they played quarters,
- 12:09Speaker 3: so in the fourth quarter Iowa had a big one
- 12:12Speaker 3: thirty to nineteen over the Gophers, almost came back, but Gophers,
- 12:16Speaker 3: you know, hit some free throws held them off. Ninety
- 12:19Speaker 3: one eighty five. Big games here from Tory McKinney. Big
- 12:28Speaker 3: Grace had twenty one points as well. Mara Bron had
- 12:31Speaker 3: sixteen and Gophers ladies get that win a Maya battle
- 12:37Speaker 3: shout out to hershey got twelve, and really like what
- 12:41Speaker 3: Coachi Don has going over here. Gophers are seventeen and six,
- 12:45Speaker 3: Iowa eighteen and five, and maybe these golden Gopher ladies
- 12:48Speaker 3: need to be ranked here after this week, So congrats
- 12:52Speaker 3: to them. Keep it up. Very impressed by the lady
- 12:56Speaker 3: Gophers and what they're doing over there on campus. And
- 12:59Speaker 3: like I said, Coach Don, she is really putting together
- 13:01Speaker 3: some really good basketball teams and the Gophers good hire
- 13:07Speaker 3: by her. Somebody did their homework and they are definitely
- 13:12Speaker 3: doing it there. So congratulations to the ladies and again
- 13:17Speaker 3: Sports Done Right podcast. So we're gonna keep it moving.
- 13:20Speaker 3: We're gonna move right on over to the Minnesota Wild,
- 13:23Speaker 3: third ranked team points wise in all of the NHL
- 13:29Speaker 3: as we now hit the Olympic Break, Minnesota Wild with
- 13:36Speaker 3: seventy eight points only trailing Colorado and the West and
- 13:42Speaker 3: Tampa Bay over in the East and excuse me, and
- 13:49Speaker 3: excuse me. Carolina also has seventy eight points, so maybe
- 13:53Speaker 3: sitting for it. But hey, man, Minnesota Wild, they're teasing
- 13:57Speaker 3: you again, aren't they. They're teasing us again. Everybody's like, Oh,
- 14:01Speaker 3: we're gonna go on that Stanley Cup run, and you
- 14:03Speaker 3: just might this year. Just might. That's what it's gonna take,
- 14:07Speaker 3: because it's really time. It's been a long time, obviously
- 14:11Speaker 3: since Minnesota Wild made a deep run, and everything that
- 14:15Speaker 3: Garrett is doing over there seems to be paying off.
- 14:18Speaker 3: The trades are working out, you know, obviously the one
- 14:23Speaker 3: wins are coming. They were to hit a little bit
- 14:26Speaker 3: of a rough stretch a couple weeks ago, but have
- 14:29Speaker 3: definitely rebounded. Carill seems to be back on pace now.
- 14:33Speaker 3: So Minnesota Wild doing the do as they like I said,
- 14:38Speaker 3: head into the Olympic break there, So props to Minnesota.
- 14:42Speaker 3: By the way, the official record thirty four, fourteen and.
- 14:49Speaker 5: Ten.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Let's see seventy eight points. Colorado has eighty three, Dallas
- 14:55Speaker 3: right behind him at seventy seven points and then drop
- 14:58Speaker 3: off and the rest of the Central Division there and
- 15:01Speaker 3: over in the Pacific Division, Las Vegas, who's on top
- 15:04Speaker 3: of that division only has sixty six points as well.
- 15:07Speaker 3: So it gives you a good idea of what's happening
- 15:10Speaker 3: with the Minnesota whild so far this season. So keep
- 15:12Speaker 3: it up. We'll see what happens after the break when
- 15:15Speaker 3: everybody gets back from the Olympics. And also with Carell
- 15:19Speaker 3: not playing in the Olympics this year, I think that
- 15:24Speaker 3: kind of helps him. Let your star warst just decompress. Chill.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Should be good, should be good. All right, NBA, and
- 15:37Speaker 3: I wanted to take some time here's you know, I've
- 15:40Speaker 3: been okay, so I'm in my mid fifties. You know,
- 15:44Speaker 3: I grew up you know, the NBA Golden era, eighties, nineties,
- 15:49Speaker 3: all that stuff early two thousands, back when centers were
- 15:52Speaker 3: centers playing in the low post and people were driving
- 15:56Speaker 3: to the hoop and all that fun stuff. But now
- 16:00Speaker 3: it's a different game. And I came across the YouTube
- 16:03Speaker 3: video and I bear with me here as I'm trying
- 16:06Speaker 3: to pull it up. NBA Legends explained why the current
- 16:09Speaker 3: NBA is dead. It's from a guy called mister Sports.
- 16:13Speaker 3: The video on YouTube has over six hundred thousand views,
- 16:18Speaker 3: and the guy's channel, you know, he's got mad followers
- 16:22Speaker 3: all that stuff, and I'm just gonna tell you it
- 16:26Speaker 3: was a very interesting video because me and a lot
- 16:28Speaker 3: of my friends and a lot of my younger friends
- 16:31Speaker 3: have kind of started talking about this Today's NBA over
- 16:36Speaker 3: the past couple of decades, just load management, nothing but
- 16:44Speaker 3: three pointers. Nobody like I said, the sinners no longer
- 16:48Speaker 3: like a shack playing down in that low post. Centers
- 16:51Speaker 3: are out there above the three point lines. And you know,
- 16:56Speaker 3: a couple notes here that I made real quick, and
- 16:58Speaker 3: I actually recorded some audio here that I'll share with
- 17:02Speaker 3: you as well on this on the Sports Done Right podcast.
- 17:06Speaker 3: NBA forty percent declined the viewership over the past fifty
- 17:09Speaker 3: few years. Let's see regular season games average one point
- 17:14Speaker 3: five to three million viewers last season on ABC, ESPN,
- 17:18Speaker 3: and TNT. That was the lowest sense of the pandemic.
- 17:22Speaker 3: And what is going on? I mean, you hear people
- 17:25Speaker 3: complain about all the time, load management, people just hoisting
- 17:29Speaker 3: up threes, the product's becoming a little bit unwatchable at times,
- 17:33Speaker 3: all that stuff, and I, you know, I tend to agree.
- 17:39Speaker 3: You know, I don't want to just sound like the
- 17:40Speaker 3: old guy sitting on this porch, you know, back in mind, Dan,
- 17:45Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean, you know, when you have centers
- 17:47Speaker 3: out here. And we were actually talking about it last
- 17:49Speaker 3: night at the Gopher game, cause you know, the big
- 17:52Speaker 3: guys down there in college you know, they don't play
- 17:54Speaker 3: in the low post. And I was saying, you know,
- 17:58Speaker 3: if there was a low post center in college basketball nowadays,
- 18:03Speaker 3: probably dominate A because he's playing in the low post. B.
- 18:08Speaker 3: The opposing sinners don't know how to defend in the
- 18:11Speaker 3: low post anymore. They probably just be you know, in
- 18:14Speaker 3: a sense quote unquote hackashacking. And it is just amazing
- 18:21Speaker 3: to watch. You know, seven foot dudes just literally run
- 18:24Speaker 3: out to the three point line. Nobody drives to the
- 18:29Speaker 3: hoops anymore. And yeah, it's very interesting because it's not
- 18:36Speaker 3: fun to watch. And I you know, NBA's got issues
- 18:41Speaker 3: in terms of viewership this and that. Now they're you know,
- 18:44Speaker 3: they put the product over what four or five different
- 18:48Speaker 3: streaming apps, so now you got to kind of go
- 18:50Speaker 3: find games and if you're not signed up here, you
- 18:54Speaker 3: know how it goes. But anyway, let's start with Magic Johnson.
- 18:59Speaker 3: This is a very very interesting take here, and again
- 19:01Speaker 3: this came from the video from mister Sports on the
- 19:05Speaker 3: NBA and why it kind of sucks right now.
- 19:11Speaker 6: Scene and five time champion Magic Johnson believes the league
- 19:15Speaker 6: lost something real when rivalries died. Back then, he and
- 19:19Speaker 6: Larry Bird weren't friends during the season, and that hate
- 19:22Speaker 6: drove them to greatness. Fans felt it. When the Lakers
- 19:25Speaker 6: and Celtics met. The whole country watched because every play
- 19:29Speaker 6: carried emotional weight.
- 19:31Speaker 2: What's happened to the rivalries?
- 19:33Speaker 7: That's today's game, Like I meant each other, that's they
- 19:37Speaker 7: don't like.
- 19:37Speaker 5: See I hated Larry and every Celtic I really don't
- 19:43Speaker 5: like you.
- 19:43Speaker 2: But now I love it because.
- 19:48Speaker 3: That's what it was, right, the Celtics Lakers hate each
- 19:53Speaker 3: other and disliked each other, so it made for great
- 19:56Speaker 3: TV and people tune it in.
- 19:59Speaker 5: And now with I don't know if it's AAU, I
- 20:02Speaker 5: don't know what it is.
- 20:03Speaker 8: Now, everybody's shaking each other's hand, Everybody like each other, won't.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Go at each other like really hard.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Even that's what happened to the All Star Game.
- 20:14Speaker 7: See yeah, see the All Star went to the All
- 20:16Speaker 7: Star Game right then?
- 20:18Speaker 8: See we hated the East right, I'm coming to I'm
- 20:22Speaker 8: coming to bust you, right, Michael Isaiah, doctor Jay, you
- 20:28Speaker 8: can't have one over me.
- 20:29Speaker 3: See, I'm coming to get that now.
- 20:33Speaker 1: See this is.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Hundred to two hundreds.
- 20:37Speaker 5: What is that.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Exactly? Man, It's it's it's crazy. It is just crazy. No,
- 20:45Speaker 3: I'm looking at some of the comments on that video
- 20:48Speaker 3: here too. It's a somebody wrote it's a three point
- 20:50Speaker 3: contest that gets interrupted with free throws and ads. Yeah, yeah,
- 20:55Speaker 3: it's it's very interesting, you know, because it's just not
- 21:01Speaker 3: for me as fun of a product to watch, as
- 21:04Speaker 3: entertaining as a product to watch anymore. You know, I
- 21:09Speaker 3: was down a few weeks ago watching the te Wolves
- 21:14Speaker 3: and you know, just same thing, man, you know, just
- 21:18Speaker 3: go Bear out there, Rudy out there at the three
- 21:21Speaker 3: point line hoisting stuff. It's just like, come on, man,
- 21:23Speaker 3: you're seven over seven feet tall, go to the hoop.
- 21:28Speaker 3: But then he goes to the hoop and kind of
- 21:30Speaker 3: like a deer on ice sometimes. But here's some other
- 21:34Speaker 3: sound from Paul Pierce and Kevin Gartinett.
- 21:39Speaker 6: Maybe it's not entirely their fault, but legends like Kevin
- 21:42Speaker 6: Garnett and Paul Pierce don't field players today are doing
- 21:46Speaker 6: enough to stay healthy and play eighty two games and we.
- 21:49Speaker 5: Don't think that the NBA today's NBA player, they do
- 21:52Speaker 5: play at a fast rate, but I.
- 21:54Speaker 8: Don't think they're in a tip top shape.
- 21:56Speaker 5: I don't think these players today, I think they think
- 21:58Speaker 5: they're in shape until they talk to mother folks. That's
- 22:01Speaker 5: in shap, you know what I'm saying, Like, I don't
- 22:03Speaker 5: think the league is in the type of shape that
- 22:05Speaker 5: you need to be in the type of shape to
- 22:07Speaker 5: play at this pace.
- 22:08Speaker 8: I think they think that. And if anybody knows the body,
- 22:12Speaker 8: your calves are your breaks. Some of the trains were
- 22:15Speaker 8: talking about the lack of calf raises for some of
- 22:18Speaker 8: the players to end their workout.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Bro.
- 22:20Speaker 8: We used to end a workout, especially on a leg day,
- 22:23Speaker 8: calf raises. This is this is how I'm speaking up,
- 22:25Speaker 8: This how I'm stopping.
- 22:26Speaker 3: This is my whole wiggle.
- 22:28Speaker 8: If your calves ain't here, edel Topper, Whenever I go
- 22:31Speaker 8: to finish, I gotta be athletic enough to finish right.
- 22:34Speaker 7: Like this is what tickets talk about, that they out
- 22:35Speaker 7: of shape. We practiced every day. We went up and
- 22:38Speaker 7: down every day like a game, like a game. So
- 22:41Speaker 7: we five on five pretty much the Hall season with
- 22:43Speaker 7: drills with drills, and so now they come in and they're.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Doing a lot of individual work with a trainer. You know.
- 22:48Speaker 7: So a lot of our shit was game speed.
- 22:53Speaker 3: There you go, game speed practice, playing most of the
- 22:57Speaker 3: eighty two games, all that fun stuff. So yeah, you know,
- 23:01Speaker 3: just one of those things, man. And like I said,
- 23:04Speaker 3: you know, me and a few of my friends have
- 23:06Speaker 3: kind of been discussing the state of the NBA, the
- 23:09Speaker 3: quality of the NBA product today, So it's not going
- 23:15Speaker 3: back to what I grew up with, and I do
- 23:17Speaker 3: understand that. I just would like to see, you know what,
- 23:21Speaker 3: some of these big men really just take advantage of
- 23:23Speaker 3: some low post play instead. You know, why take the
- 23:29Speaker 3: game thirty feet out there and start hoisting shots when
- 23:32Speaker 3: you can go down low and get in within five
- 23:34Speaker 3: feet and try and do some damage. That's all the
- 23:37Speaker 3: Sports gov is saying, all right. So with that being said,
- 23:43Speaker 3: speaking of NBA, our Timberwolves did not land the Greek Freak,
- 23:46Speaker 3: and I'm glad that they didn't because as I sat
- 23:50Speaker 3: on social media, as I had sent some posts out there,
- 23:54Speaker 3: it's just I don't know, man, I loved Giannis as
- 23:57Speaker 3: a player, a little bit of a knee, but you
- 24:00Speaker 3: gotta have that ego when you're on his level. But
- 24:03Speaker 3: I just didn't think what the Timberwolves were looking to
- 24:06Speaker 3: give up Julius Randall, possibly Devincenzo other pieces really warranted
- 24:13Speaker 3: bringing in the Greek freak because as great as he
- 24:17Speaker 3: is when he's healthy and on the court, that hasn't
- 24:19Speaker 3: been the case lately either with him. He's been injury prone.
- 24:23Speaker 3: He's got a bit of a calf issue right now,
- 24:26Speaker 3: speaking on what the Kevin Gard and Paul Pierce were
- 24:29Speaker 3: just speaking on there as well. So yeah, you know,
- 24:32Speaker 3: it's just I'm glad it didn't work out, and the
- 24:35Speaker 3: Timberwolves just got to work on, you know, getting a
- 24:38Speaker 3: deeper bench and you know, being able to go eight
- 24:41Speaker 3: to nine deep sometimes. Ao Desumu from the Bulls coming
- 24:47Speaker 3: our way. Nice little pick up there for the Timberwolves.
- 24:50Speaker 3: CBS Sports actually gives the Timberwolves a B plus. I'll
- 24:54Speaker 3: just read what they rode here and let me give
- 24:56Speaker 3: proper due to the if I could speak tonight the
- 25:01Speaker 3: author of this article, Jack Maloney, and again the cbssports
- 25:07Speaker 3: dot Com and blah blah blah, let's see Timberwolves Wolves
- 25:12Speaker 3: backcourt concerns became obvious on opening night when Conley, who
- 25:15Speaker 3: had been their steady starting point guard for the last
- 25:18Speaker 3: two seasons plus, came off the bench and only played
- 25:21Speaker 3: twelve minutes. Now thirty eight years old, Conley was a
- 25:24Speaker 3: shell of himself when he did get on the court.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Conon Lee's declined opened up opportunities for the likes of
- 25:31Speaker 3: Bones Highland, Terren Shannon Junior and Jalen Clark and the
- 25:36Speaker 3: aforementioned Dillingham Chris Finch gave them all a shot the
- 25:39Speaker 3: first half of the season. Only Highland has come even
- 25:43Speaker 3: close to running with the opportunity, and even at his
- 25:46Speaker 3: best as a streaky offensive player. So that's why they went.
- 25:51Speaker 3: Did that trade there, and we'll just see what happens.
- 25:55Speaker 3: It's real tight right now. Again, the West is always tight.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Minnesota Timberwolves five and five in their last ten games,
- 26:02Speaker 3: again playing down to some bad teams, playing down to
- 26:05Speaker 3: bad competition at times. And right now they are, I
- 26:12Speaker 3: believe in what seventh in the West? Let me double
- 26:18Speaker 3: check that real quick. They are excuse me, fifth right
- 26:26Speaker 3: now at thirty two and twenty. Okay, see on top
- 26:31Speaker 3: at forty and twelve. San Antonio behind them at number two.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Denvers number three, Rockets are four, Wolves five, Lakers six.
- 26:41Speaker 3: They are half a game behind or behind the Wolves,
- 26:44Speaker 3: and the Suns are seventh. So there you go. And
- 26:50Speaker 3: by the way, Greek Freak may be available in the
- 26:52Speaker 3: offseason as well, so you know that can still happen.
- 26:57Speaker 3: We'll see what happens, see how his health hold up
- 27:00Speaker 3: here the rest of the year. He did say he
- 27:02Speaker 3: wants to be in Milwaukee. He did say he just
- 27:04Speaker 3: wants them to I think he just wants them to
- 27:06Speaker 3: put more of an effort into bringing back some winning
- 27:09Speaker 3: basketball out there as well. You know, it makes sense.
- 27:14Speaker 3: But no Greek Freak in Minneapolis at least right now.
- 27:22Speaker 3: So with that being said, I'm going to get on
- 27:24Speaker 3: out of here. Got the motivated waiting. I am Vince Right,
- 27:29Speaker 3: Sports Governor. This is the Sports Done Right podcast, and
- 27:32Speaker 3: again I thank you very much for all the support.
- 27:34Speaker 3: I thank you all for you know, the love, just
- 27:40Speaker 3: everything regarding this podcast. Man. Like I said, you know,
- 27:42Speaker 3: I was looking at the start date over ten years now,
- 27:46Speaker 3: just over ten years we've been doing this, So shout
- 27:49Speaker 3: out to everybody. Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
- 27:52Speaker 3: And we'll be back next week with more sports done right.
- 27:59Speaker 4: You can get your boys scattered, smothered, or covered, But
- 28:03Speaker 4: why would you when you can get your sports done
- 28:06Speaker 4: right
