Transcript
- 0:00Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, or DIWA,
- 0:03presents a remarkable example of long -term infrastructure
- 0:07leadership. Over more than three decades, it
- 0:10has evolved from a local utility provider into
- 0:13a global benchmark for sustainable growth, operational
- 0:16reliability, and advanced technology adoption.
- 0:20That transformation began on 1 January 1992,
- 0:24when DIWA was formed by a decree issued by the
- 0:26late Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid al -Maktoum. The
- 0:30decree merged Dubai Electricity Company and Dubai
- 0:32Water Department, which had been operating independently
- 0:35since their establishment by the late Sheikh
- 0:37Rashid bin Saeed al -Maktoum in 1959. This merger
- 0:41created a unified organizational model and laid
- 0:44the foundation for long -term strategic planning,
- 0:46institutional governance, and infrastructure
- 0:49development aligned with Dubai's future aspirations.
- 0:52Today, under the vision and directives of His
- 0:55Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,
- 0:57Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE
- 1:00and ruler of Dubai, Diwa continues to expand
- 1:03its production and technical capabilities in
- 1:06line with Dubai's rapid urban and economic growth.
- 1:09Diwa has developed world -class power generation
- 1:11and water desalination facilities that have achieved
- 1:14multiple Guinness World Records. These include
- 1:17the tallest concentrated solar power tower at
- 1:19over 263 meters, the largest solar energy storage
- 1:23capacity in Phase 4 of the Mohammed bin Rashid
- 1:26Al Maktoum Solar Park, and the largest single
- 1:28-site natural gas power generation facility worldwide
- 1:31at the Jebel Ali complex. In terms of scale,
- 1:34Diwa's installed generation capacity has reached
- 1:37approximately 18 gigawatts, with plans to increase
- 1:40this to 23 gigawatts by 2030. This supports rising
- 1:44energy demand, sustainable economic growth, and
- 1:47Dubai's competitiveness as a global hub for business
- 1:50and investment. Clean and renewable energy remains
- 1:53central to this strategy. The Mohammed bin Rashid
- 1:56Al Maktoum Solar Park, one of the largest single
- 1:59-site solar parks in the world, now has a current
- 2:01production capacity of 3 ,860 megawatts. Artificial
- 2:06intelligence is also playing an important role
- 2:08by optimizing photovoltaic panel cleaning cycles,
- 2:11forecasting generation output, and improving
- 2:13the integration of energy storage systems with
- 2:15the grid. Diwa has also strengthened renewable
- 2:18energy integration through advanced storage solutions,
- 2:22including battery storage, grid -scale energy
- 2:24storage, molten salt thermal storage in concentrated
- 2:28solar power projects, and the Hada Pumped Storage
- 2:30Hydroelectric Power Plant. It is also exploring
- 2:33green hydrogen as part of a diversified energy
- 2:36mix. These efforts directly support the Dubai
- 2:39Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims for a
- 2:42100 % clean energy mix and net zero by 2050.
- 2:46Diwa has already increased clean energy share
- 2:48in Dubai's energy mix to 21%, and it plans to
- 2:51raise this to beyond 36 % by 2030, as the solar
- 2:55park's capacity surpasses 8 ,000 megawatts, significantly
- 2:58exceeding the initial 5 ,000 megawatts target.
- 3:01Overall, Diwa's journey reflects not just expansion
- 3:04in capacity, but the creation of an advanced
- 3:07model that combines strategic vision, operational
- 3:10efficiency, and innovation to support a more
- 3:12sustainable future for Dubai.
