- 0:13Hey guys, welcome back to the ask me world.
- 0:15My name is Don. I have autism ADHD OCD and
- 0:18dyslexia, and I make weekly videos on this type of content.

- 0:27Hey, guys, just want to give a shout-out to today's video
- 0:29sponsor, which is brilliant. And I'll brilliant.
- 0:31Super awesome. They got in touch with me and
- 0:33said that, they have this super awesome thing for ADHD.
- 0:35And I was like, I'm all ears, right?
- 0:37So anyway, yeah, they sent me a bunch of these things.
- 0:40It's a non prescription. A Pathak medicine that you can
- 0:43take to like lot of stress and kind of like help with ADHD
- 0:46symptoms and things like that. This is why I wanted to try it.
- 0:49So my idea is that I'm going to take these awesome little.
- 0:54I'll show you exactly what they look like.
- 0:55These little kind of like discs. They just dissolve into your
- 0:57tongue, right? And I'll be taking these off.
- 0:59I'd like a week's worth already or more than that.
- 1:01And these are really really cool.
- 1:02So I'm going to take these through off, four to five weeks
- 1:04to see if they can help reduce my kind of anxiety, my ADHD
- 1:08symptoms and things like that. Brilliant is really really cool.
- 1:11They all seem Really nice and they do a version for adults and
- 1:15children. So this one is obviously for
- 1:16adults because I'm taking it, but it's really, really, really
- 1:19cool. So this is, again like a
- 1:21non-prescription, homeopathic medicine.
- 1:24And, you know, there's no real harmful side effects of things.
- 1:26Really, really interesting. So I was like, hey, let's give
- 1:29it a shot and see how it works. So join me on my journey.
- 1:31I'll be checking in with you guys every like week or so.
- 1:34It's like you know how I'm getting on with this and see
- 1:35what the results are and if it can benefit you in your life, in
- 1:38the meantime, if you want to check out brillier, then do so
- 1:41with the link in the Chin down below, super awesome.
- 1:43Alright, on with the video. Okay guys, what is going on?
- 1:46I am really excited to do this video because I've seen a lot of
- 1:50parents and kind of like caregivers who take the kids to
- 1:52school, and the kids are on the, you know, on the autism spectrum
- 1:55and they have a school phobia, right?
- 1:57Ida School phobia. When I was a kid, it was really
- 1:59difficult for me to go to school and stay in school.
- 2:02And so I was I was just like, completely agitated, irritated
- 2:07triggered the whole time and this didn't work well, my mental
- 2:10health wasn't good. And for my condition of having
- 2:13Asperger's syndrome and ADHD it just didn't go.
- 2:15Well, okay, so I'm sure we five hacks and this is going to be
- 2:17life-changing for people as well.
- 2:19So hopefully this will help you to no end and yeah.
- 2:22Leave me a comment and a thumbs up on this video.
- 2:24If you think this video is awesome.
- 2:26Okay cool. So the first one is
- 2:28understanding the triggers. First thing to do is create a
- 2:30list of all the scary this as non-scary tasks that take place
- 2:33in the school. So ask the child say hey can you
- 2:36help me make? Can you help me make a list of
- 2:40all of the The scary things, versus the non scary things that
- 2:44you do in school, could be walking down the hallway, going
- 2:46to class sitting next to other kids, doing certain activities,
- 2:49PE Whatever. By doing this, you're
- 2:51understanding what their triggers actually are.
- 2:54The second thing is to color subject on a chart where you
- 2:58write all the subjects that they're doing in school are all
- 3:00the things that they do in school and then you get them to
- 3:02color in, like green for the ones they enjoy and then read
- 3:05for the ones that are bad, which is basically meaning that what
- 3:08the experience when they're in that lesson and maybe if you
- 3:11pinpoint, why Listen to Bad, not just because the fact that some
- 3:13people just don't like certain lessons, it could be more of a
- 3:16detailed fact that maybe there's a certain kind of issue of that
- 3:19room. You know can be Century, that is
- 3:21the best way to do it. Another way is to create a worry
- 3:24book now, writing down all of the issues in one book and you
- 3:28can also try and personalize the book by like you're not putting
- 3:30stickers and stuff on it and making it kind of like there's
- 3:33you know if they're really into Pokemon and Minecraft will get
- 3:35Pokemon Minecraft stickers sticking all over the book and
- 3:37then they'll kind of want to write in that book and write
- 3:39although worries down and then this does a few things.
- 3:41The first Thing is that it gets rid of all the worries from
- 3:43their heads, they stuff kind of thinking about getting anxious
- 3:46about things and head but also allows you to detailed go
- 3:49through the things that they are struggling with in the school.
- 3:53Super super dope. Okay, the next thing I want to
- 3:55talk about, next hack I'm going to talk about is creating
- 3:57strategies for home use to come anxiety and relaxation, right?
- 4:01So we need to do is you know, use things that help relax like
- 4:06go for a walk or playing in the park or riding your bike.
- 4:09Something that click create more of a An exercise thing which
- 4:13helps move oxygen around the body and helps create cam, but
- 4:16cam at home because what you don't want is, I'm coming home
- 4:19and having that stress, they had in school at home because then
- 4:21it makes a home run and come to a place and there's no
- 4:24relaxation at all and all other time when we relax, we get a
- 4:27chance to reset step back and just kind of really assess the
- 4:30situation and come down and start again.
- 4:33The next thing I would say is maybe why not build Legos or
- 4:36play Minecraft you know doing something that really helps you
- 4:39relax but also gives you focus to keep In the fact that you are
- 4:42relaxing, but you're also focusing your energy, these are
- 4:45really good. Another one is to schedule quiet
- 4:48time into your day so they can go in their room where they know
- 4:52they're safe, then they know that they are calm and
- 4:55Collective and then got their room and chill and play and that
- 4:58is their space. But you need to kind of like,
- 5:00you know, if you think about it, bedrooms are one of the places
- 5:02where we kind of spent the least amount of time awake.
- 5:05Because, you know, you've got a bedroom when you go to try and
- 5:07sleep, but when you're you know, suffering anxiety and you having
- 5:09issues with going to school, one of the things you really We want
- 5:12is somewhere at home which is just your Haven, you're safe
- 5:15haven, where you can just go and chill out and just have that you
- 5:19time, right? So I make sure that they do
- 5:21scheduling time to go in their room to chill out because it
- 5:24could even be like a teepee tent in the living room with like
- 5:26some cushions in it or whatever works do it but schedule it in.
- 5:30Don't forget about this is important okay so the next hack
- 5:33is to communicate with the school directly so you could
- 5:36contact these senko to special educational needs coordinator at
- 5:40the school and Them aware of all the issues that you've collected
- 5:44from hack. Number one, we took about the
- 5:46issues. Now, you also need to find out
- 5:48what has been done so far to accommodate the needs of the
- 5:50child within the school because then you'll have like a detailed
- 5:54outline of what has currently been done?
- 5:57Where the issues lie and where you should go forward from.
- 5:59This is how you create a plan of action consult with the direct
- 6:03line of Staff, who deals with your child on a day-to-day basis
- 6:06and discuss what strategies they've used.
- 6:07Because you never know, because that person is dealing with your
- 6:10child in an environment that your are not familiar with or
- 6:12have never been in with your child.
- 6:15This person may have strategies that they've developed with your
- 6:17kid, that you could use somewhere else.
- 6:19But also that you could make a note of so that the teachers do
- 6:22change, then you can, you know, replace the the personal
- 6:26learning plan with one, you now have with the person who's
- 6:28worked with them on the strategies if you get me and the
- 6:31other one is to literally simply ask your child, what support,
- 6:35they feel, they need when in school by asking the child
- 6:38directly, they may be able to, if they are verbal be able to
- 6:41Tell you exactly what the issues are that they're having.
- 6:44You may be able to say, like, hey look, I have an issue with
- 6:46the whole. I have an issue with the
- 6:47assembly. I have an issue is lining up and
- 6:49going into college could be anything, right?
- 6:51But they will tell you that it directly, if they are able to
- 6:54order to draw it out. And this is a really good one, a
- 6:56lot of people just don't seem to want to ask children because it
- 6:59may just let their mind because they're so busy worrying about
- 7:01situation at hand. Okay.
- 7:02So the next hack is adjustment. Now you could look at having a
- 7:07quiet time during the school day in a quiet room, so ask the
- 7:10school, if they can accommodate. A piece of the classroom or a
- 7:13room off to the side of a corridor where your child could
- 7:17have just a few minutes of just complete calm and relaxation.
- 7:20So they can reset themselves. Like I was saying before on the
- 7:23other hack just to kind of ground them a little bit so they
- 7:25can go breathe a little bit and everything is go, go go all the
- 7:28time then they can come around, get back into the classes and
- 7:31you know see if it makes any difference.
- 7:33I think it's worth a try that's all it is.
- 7:35Use ear Defenders outside in the playground.
- 7:37A lot of kids get triggered when I was in school I was triggered
- 7:39so much by the playground that I had to stay.
- 7:41Doors and play on the computers, to get me to a composition.
- 7:44So I can go back into the class and then learn but, you know, I,
- 7:48I didn't have any a Defenders and if my parents don't know how
- 7:49to fix it back there. And so now they do, I would have
- 7:52wanted offenders. So check that one out.
- 7:54Another tip is later, start and early finish, time to avoid busy
- 7:57school traffic. Now, School traffic is crazy.
- 8:00There's parents, there's kids, there's traffic, there's dogs
- 8:03are sometimes there's bicycles. There's scooters everything you
- 8:06can possibly think of dropping their kids off, and it's hectic.
- 8:09So if you can try and create a Later start time and a bit of an
- 8:13early finish time. You'll avoid those places of
- 8:16craziness, like I did this when I was a kid actually really
- 8:18worked. Well for me, the other one is
- 8:21using reward systems to help meet our guests.
- 8:23So I have a link for this. If you check out the link down
- 8:26below, I'll leave a link for my chart.
- 8:28I actually have a link where you can download charts which are
- 8:31like work for task chart where you have like three things that
- 8:35you work for and once you've completed all three of them, you
- 8:37can then get the reward of the thing you want.
- 8:40It's a good way of creating. You know, task success in if
- 8:44more structural visual format and then the other thing is all
- 8:47the students may like to use apps for dealing with, like,
- 8:50anxiety and stuff. So making sure that school are
- 8:52aware that, you know, your child, if they're a little bit
- 8:55older and they're using like a tablet or a smartphone, they may
- 8:58want to use an app when they're feeling stressed and it's okay
- 9:00because I know what like phones and stuff are a bit of a No-No
- 9:03in schools, but if you're using it for your mental health and
- 9:06your well-being, then why not, you know?
- 9:08Okay, so the last one is a no-brainer, but I thought I'd
- 9:10add this in here now. This is number five.
- 9:11This hack is homeschooling. It's, maybe a choice for some
- 9:15people, depending on your level of comfort, but a lot of the
- 9:17time, it's a very good one, because a lot of the triggers
- 9:21that are happening in school, I haven't, because it's in the
- 9:23school environment. It's not at home in the
- 9:26environment where the person feels their most comfortable,
- 9:30you know. So if you're trying, you know,
- 9:31if we think about this, if your result is to get your kid to
- 9:33feel as comfortable and Learners best as possible, while the best
- 9:36environment is going to be at home with their mum, or dad or
- 9:39whoever is able. If so to stay at home and My
- 9:42nose is not possible for everybody, but I feel like the
- 9:45covid thing has taught us a lot about homeschooling and how we
- 9:47could potentially work from home and teach our kids from home.
- 9:50So if this is something that you could do and as a stretch and it
- 9:53would take away the stress from the school and the strain from
- 9:55the school, you could always implement this and homeschooling
- 9:58is a really good idea if you're thinking.
- 10:01Hmm. Maybe I could try some my kid.
- 10:02So always remember guys if you're homeschooling, but then
- 10:04you want to reintegrate your child back into mainstream
- 10:06school, you know, early a day. Always remember that you need a
- 10:10period of renewed. Integration, so, prepare, well,
- 10:13for this and don't forget because a lot of people do
- 10:15forget, and it doesn't work out really well.
- 10:17Guys, if you like this video, give it thumbs up, share it on
