- 1:12Speaker 3: hour of hell.
- 1:31Speaker 4: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown's Attack of the
- 1:33Speaker 4: Killers soundtrack. I'm Brian. I'm David. And we're coming to
- 1:36Speaker 4: you live via digital recording from Gallery K. Back again
- 1:40Speaker 4: for this year's Halloween festivities. We've done many different Meltdown
- 1:45Speaker 4: macabre parties over the years. We've dialed it back sometimes.
- 1:49Speaker 4: This is like super low-key. We're having a listening party.
- 1:53Speaker 4: I was like, really? I just want to put together
- 1:55Speaker 4: a Halloween-themed horror movie sort of episode. And then just
- 2:01Speaker 4: play some songs. That's what I want to do. David
- 2:05Speaker 4: has come along for this ride. We are loaded up
- 2:09Speaker 4: on our pumpkin lattes. All right, maybe just me. Maybe
- 2:12Speaker 4: I'm the basic bitch. But I'm like, it's an October thing.
- 2:16Speaker 4: You got to have a pumpkin-flavored something. It wasn't pumpkin spice.
- 2:18Speaker 4: You're only halfway there. Pumpkin pie, spice latte, something. I
- 2:22Speaker 4: don't know. I got to have a pumpkin-flavored beverage. It's October.
- 2:27Speaker 4: I really do buy into it, though. Like, I know
- 2:30Speaker 4: it's bullshit. Like, I know that it's the scam and
- 2:33Speaker 4: it's so, like, super ridiculously overplayed at this point. But, like,
- 2:38Speaker 4: October starts creeping in. I start seeing the signs out
- 2:41Speaker 4: in front of gas stations selling that shit. I'm just like, man,
- 2:45Speaker 4: I love October.
- 2:46Speaker 14: I think Dairy Queen is my only real annual hook
- 2:50Speaker 14: every Halloween. They do pumpkin pie blizzards, and I always
- 2:53Speaker 14: have to get a couple of those whenever they're putting
- 2:56Speaker 14: those out in November.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Truthfully, I've realized I'm okay with pumpkin flavor. I think
- 3:02Speaker 4: I just like it because it reminds me that it's
- 3:03Speaker 4: October and it's Halloween, and Halloween is awesome. So, like, again,
- 3:07Speaker 4: it's like a mental thing. Like, I've tricked myself into
- 3:09Speaker 4: liking the flavor more than I do. Because, like, for years, like,
- 3:12Speaker 4: the Thanksgiving things, pumpkin pie, and, like, growing up, it
- 3:16Speaker 4: was like the whole family would acknowledge, yeah, we really
- 3:19Speaker 4: just want whipped cream. So, I'm like, make it equal
- 3:22Speaker 4: amounts whipped cream and pie, and then I'll eat the
- 3:24Speaker 4: whipped cream off, and I'll probably accidentally get some pie
- 3:26Speaker 4: in there, too. But, like, so, like, the flavor is
- 3:29Speaker 4: a side. The flavor doesn't matter. Like, it's just, I
- 3:33Speaker 4: know it's Halloween, damn it. And I'm going to be
- 3:35Speaker 4: a super geek and go buy new Halloween things at
- 3:38Speaker 4: the stores. And I'm just going to load up and
- 3:41Speaker 4: eat Count Chocula every day of my life. And it's
- 3:43Speaker 4: going to be a wonderful time. I ate a lot
- 3:45Speaker 4: of pumpkin seeds when I was a kid. Those are
- 3:47Speaker 4: pretty cool. It was one of those, yeah.
- 3:49Speaker 14: Pumpkins, I would keep all the seeds and bake them
- 3:52Speaker 14: and shake them in salt and all that.
- 3:54Speaker 4: I was going to say, that was back in the
- 3:55Speaker 4: day when you had to do it yourself. Now they
- 3:57Speaker 4: actually sell.
- 3:58Speaker 14: That was back when Halloween costumes were like a vinyl
- 4:00Speaker 14: bodysuit and a mask with a rubber band that was
- 4:03Speaker 14: going to tear into your hair and ears the whole night.
- 4:06Speaker 4: And it said on your chest, Batman. That's how you
- 4:09Speaker 4: know I'm Batman.
- 4:10Speaker 14: A mask that would just sweat up and musty up
- 4:13Speaker 14: your face the whole night.
- 4:14Speaker 4: You're just breathing onto your own face. Just a little
- 4:18Speaker 4: cloud around your eyes. Oh, you take it off. It's just.
- 4:24Speaker 14: when i was a kid i didn't i didn't believe
- 4:26Speaker 14: that pumpkin pies were made from pumpkin.
- 4:29Speaker 4: I still question it especially now because i think it's
- 4:31Speaker 4: all fake this taste with everything else pumpkin i feel
- 4:34Speaker 4: like pumpkin pie in particular tastes different from other pumpkin
- 4:37Speaker 4: items and i remember as a kid i was.
- 4:39Speaker 14: Just like did he just name it pumpkin pie because
- 4:42Speaker 14: like you generally eat it for thanksgiving i was like
- 4:45Speaker 14: i remember just really being shocked like a nine-year-old when
- 4:48Speaker 14: I found out they were actually made from pumpkins.
- 4:50Speaker 4: It was almost gourd pie. But that sounds kind of gross.
- 4:54Speaker 4: So people were like, people like jack-o'-lanterns. Let's just call
- 4:57Speaker 4: it that. Well, that's, yeah, it's one of the, because
- 5:00Speaker 4: it doesn't really make sense. Because, like, you cut into
- 5:02Speaker 4: that and you're scooping guts out. It doesn't smell like
- 5:05Speaker 4: any pumpkin flavored bullshit they're selling you. Did they just
- 5:07Speaker 4: chop up the pumpkin itself?
- 5:08Speaker 14: Did they just put it in a blender and make
- 5:10Speaker 14: a mush out of it and then you bake it? Like,
- 5:12Speaker 14: I don't even understand what part of the pumpkin ends
- 5:14Speaker 14: up in the pie. Because it's so empty. I mean,
- 5:16Speaker 14: there's guts in there, but it's still so empty.
- 5:18Speaker 4: It's hollow with gross guts and seeds. Does it take
- 5:20Speaker 4: two dozen pumpkins to make one pie? Maybe so. If
- 5:23Speaker 4: you are a big pumpkin pie person at home, feel
- 5:26Speaker 4: free to write in and tell us we're stupid.
- 5:29Speaker 14: It's kind of like Silk, where they have to kill
- 5:30Speaker 14: thousands of silkworms to make one blouse.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Thousands of pumpkins died to bring you these plans. All right,
- 5:37Speaker 4: we've jumped into a new genre there. All right, so
- 5:43Speaker 4: let's kick off the music. Okay. I went a lot
- 5:47Speaker 4: of different weird ways here. Most of this I've pieced
- 5:50Speaker 4: together from stuff that I've mentioned on the original recipe
- 5:54Speaker 4: episodes lately that we've, anytime I go anywhere specifically with Misty,
- 5:58Speaker 4: usually we end up going to bookstores, which she thinks
- 6:02Speaker 4: she knows how to read. I know better than, I
- 6:03Speaker 4: know I'm not going to read. So I'm usually looking
- 6:06Speaker 4: through CDs for the soundtrack episodes. I have bought so
- 6:10Speaker 4: many soundtracks in this past year or so. Like it's ridiculous.
- 6:14Speaker 4: ridiculous it's like we're talking like older stuff new stuff
- 6:17Speaker 4: both yeah i mean just yeah across the board uh
- 6:22Speaker 4: yeah it's just i mean again i'm finding them on
- 6:25Speaker 4: cd like there's a few i bought on vinyl because
- 6:27Speaker 4: again i'm not super vinyl i know it's hip and
- 6:30Speaker 4: all but i'm not hip so i bought a few
- 6:32Speaker 4: that are just like weird like i'm not gonna find
- 6:34Speaker 4: anywhere else but for the most part it's cds because
- 6:37Speaker 4: i'm a dork and i live in an era when
- 6:39Speaker 4: cds were cool And so again, a lot of it's
- 6:42Speaker 4: like in the middle and a lot of it, as
- 6:44Speaker 4: we're going to find here, is probably 90s-esque because they
- 6:47Speaker 4: put out a lot of, you know, everything came out
- 6:50Speaker 4: on CD in the 90s. But specifically, there was a
- 6:52Speaker 4: lot of horror and kind of cool teenage-ish stuff. Well,
- 6:57Speaker 4: that's when that weird renaissance happened with Scream. Scream came out,
- 7:00Speaker 4: and it made horror mainstream again. And cool for kids. Like,
- 7:04Speaker 4: that was the thing. Horror was always a thing, but again,
- 7:07Speaker 4: it was never really specifically aimed.
- 7:08Speaker 14: The soundtrack became cool, somewhat not mainstreamy bands doing catchy
- 7:13Speaker 14: little songs that are a little dark and spooky.
- 7:15Speaker 4: Yeah, the lesser bands on a normal soundtrack would be
- 7:18Speaker 4: like the headliners on a new cool kid horror movie
- 7:22Speaker 4: of the summer.
- 7:23Speaker 8: Right.
- 7:24Speaker 4: So, yeah, there's a lot of that that we fall
- 7:27Speaker 4: into here. But then I also found just some odd
- 7:30Speaker 4: things that I was like, yeah, nobody's going to buy
- 7:33Speaker 4: this but me. And yes, I brought them with me.
- 7:35Speaker 4: So you guys at home can look at them as
- 7:37Speaker 4: David does.
- 7:38Speaker 10: I'll heal something for your eyes.
- 7:41Speaker 4: All right. So this one you'll probably more appreciate as
- 7:43Speaker 4: a geek that worked at a video store because we
- 7:45Speaker 4: sold a lot of copies of Casper. Oh my gosh.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Now this is... That had a girl from Adam's family, right? Yeah,
- 7:54Speaker 4: the original one had... The original Wednesday? Yeah, had... What
- 7:59Speaker 4: is her name? Christina Ricci? Yeah, Christina Ricci, or however
- 8:02Speaker 4: she'd like to pronounce it. Had her as the main one. Now, again,
- 8:07Speaker 4: this is when you start delving into, yeah, we're doing
- 8:10Speaker 4: a sequel. We can't afford her again. We can't pull
- 8:13Speaker 4: in that Bill Pullman money. She was money at that time. She, yeah,
- 8:18Speaker 4: I mean, she was the big star of that movie, yeah. So,
- 8:21Speaker 4: coming back to do another one that, and it looks
- 8:24Speaker 4: like it actually got a theatrical release. I assumed this
- 8:27Speaker 4: went straight to video, but it's got, like, an actual, like,
- 8:30Speaker 4: lineup here, like they paid to actually put it out
- 8:33Speaker 4: in theaters. So, yeah, this one is the sequel, Casper,
- 8:38Speaker 4: A Spirited Beginning. which based on the first one be
- 8:43Speaker 4: a beginning like what's the second no you gotta prequel
- 8:45Speaker 4: it up man people love prequels.
- 8:46Speaker 14: So it's the first one like casper the like mortal
- 8:49Speaker 14: man dying and then this one's like his ghost comes
- 8:52Speaker 14: from the grave and now it's casper.
- 8:53Speaker 4: There's nothing that kids love more than other dead children
- 8:57Speaker 4: which is basically the casper story right like how we
- 9:00Speaker 4: made a comedy out of it like let's have a
- 9:02Speaker 4: family fun picture about this dead kid But, yeah, I
- 9:07Speaker 4: don't know who, like, again, this is not Christina Ricci.
- 9:10Speaker 4: This is not this little family shot. That might be
- 9:13Speaker 4: Becky from Full House. But other than that, our big
- 9:17Speaker 4: star that there's three pictures on the back, the biggest
- 9:20Speaker 4: one is Rodney Dangerfield.
- 9:23Speaker 8: What?
- 9:23Speaker 4: When you're pulling in, Rodney Dangerfield is your big name
- 9:27Speaker 4: for Casper. That's bizarre. The other thing that sold me
- 9:32Speaker 4: is the front of this. It's like Andrew Dice Clay, like, busy. Like,
- 9:35Speaker 4: I mean.
- 9:35Speaker 2: He's.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Studying for his next woody allen movie which is true
- 9:39Speaker 4: is the scary are you serious he's in a yeah
- 9:42Speaker 4: just like two years ago he was in a woody
- 9:44Speaker 4: allen movie figure that out so yeah the thing that
- 9:48Speaker 4: really sold me on this other than i do like
- 9:50Speaker 4: some of the bands on here but the front of
- 9:52Speaker 4: it has one of those motion things look at that
- 9:55Speaker 4: it's got that ridgy little motion action going on when.
- 9:57Speaker 15: You move it.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Look at all the dead kids waving at me. Look
- 9:59Speaker 4: at all of them. It's got those other three ghosts
- 10:01Speaker 4: that were jackass in the first one. They're back. Don't worry.
- 10:04Speaker 4: I feel like there's like, well, like the modern era,
- 10:08Speaker 4: like now, I feel like someone like Zack Snyder, someone
- 10:11Speaker 4: has like a dark, realistic version of Casper where like
- 10:14Speaker 4: he gets killed by three bullies and they all come
- 10:16Speaker 4: back as ghosts and Some dark, morbid Casper. You've set
- 10:21Speaker 4: the wheels in motion. It's happening now. Somewhere a little
- 10:24Speaker 4: light just went on over Zack Snyder's head. With a
- 10:27Speaker 4: music video at some point. A bunch of slow-mo ghosts
- 10:31Speaker 4: running at each other with the Ripley chest. Ripley ghost chest.
- 10:36Speaker 4: He's got a lot of issues, that Zack Snyder. No doubt.
- 10:38Speaker 4: He has weird things that he's into that I don't
- 10:41Speaker 4: fully understand. And I'm okay with that. So this one, again,
- 10:45Speaker 4: most of these I'm just picking. There's some weird choices
- 10:47Speaker 4: on this as well. I'm not going to go with
- 10:50Speaker 4: this Bobby McFerrin. But what I am, again, there were
- 10:54Speaker 4: some good stuff as I got here. Once I got
- 10:57Speaker 4: to Oingo Boingo, I'm like, all right, I'm sold. And
- 11:00Speaker 4: not Dead Man's Party. Because I came in probably with
- 11:04Speaker 4: everybody else. You know, your Dead Man's Party. Well, that's
- 11:07Speaker 4: Danny Elfman, correct? Isn't that Danny Elfman? That was the
- 11:09Speaker 4: lead singer of Oingo Boingo?
- 11:11Speaker 8: Yes.
- 11:11Speaker 4: Yes. His brother started it, and then he kind of
- 11:15Speaker 4: hijacked it from... Not really. I think the brother kind
- 11:17Speaker 4: of left it. And at the same time, Danny started
- 11:20Speaker 4: kind of moving more and more into the power position,
- 11:23Speaker 4: and then he just.
- 11:24Speaker 14: But Dead Man's party in particular is Elfman on the vocals, correct?
- 11:28Speaker 16: Yes.
- 11:28Speaker 4: I think all of it was always him.
- 11:30Speaker 14: Because I've always heard that, but it's one of those
- 11:31Speaker 14: things I never... Fact-checked it, but I've always heard that
- 11:34Speaker 14: it was Danny Elfman that did vocals.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I think they started off kind of more instrumental,
- 11:38Speaker 4: like when it was the Brothers Band. And then as
- 11:40Speaker 4: they were like, hey, we need a singer. Let's bring
- 11:42Speaker 4: your little brother in. And then all of a sudden
- 11:44Speaker 4: it's like, oh, by the way, your little brother's a genius.
- 11:47Speaker 14: I wish someone would make a fan video that grabs
- 11:50Speaker 14: a bunch of Nightmare Before Christmas and has Jack as
- 11:52Speaker 14: if he's... singing like dead man's party like in my
- 11:55Speaker 14: head like back then i remember kind of thinking i
- 11:56Speaker 14: was like.
- 11:56Speaker 4: That would be a perfect mashup they could probably do
- 11:59Speaker 4: that actually so just like somehow grab snippets from nightmare
- 12:02Speaker 4: you know to kind of create a fake video for
- 12:04Speaker 4: it people get on it that's what youtube is for
- 12:07Speaker 4: for god's sakes do this but this one because again
- 12:11Speaker 4: i have at least one copy of dead man's party
- 12:15Speaker 4: it's on like again it's always on those halloween compilation
- 12:18Speaker 4: kind of things So I know I've got at least
- 12:20Speaker 4: once there. I'm sure it's ended up on other soundtracks
- 12:23Speaker 4: back to school maybe. Wow. So like it's in a
- 12:26Speaker 4: lot of other weird stuff. But this was the first
- 12:29Speaker 4: time I'd seen No One Lives Forever, which is a
- 12:32Speaker 4: nice creepy way to kick things off.
- 13:11Speaker 8: Don't worry too much, you make yourself sad.
- 13:14Speaker 4: You can't change fate, but don't feel so bad.
- 13:17Speaker 8: You do what you can, it's just like the weather.
- 13:21Speaker 8: Once a quick completed brother, no one lives forever. Let's
- 13:25Speaker 8: have a party, there's a full moon in the sky.
- 13:27Speaker 8: It's the hour of the wolf and I come.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I'm so happy dancing while the brimmer eats.
- 13:41Speaker 10: The guts, cuts, cuts, but he can't get me.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I'm as clever as can be, and I'm very quick,
- 13:47Speaker 1: but don't forget.
- 13:48Speaker 8: We've only got so many tricks. No one lets me down.
- 14:07Speaker 4: Hey!
- 14:07Speaker 7: Do you think you've got it rough?
- 14:10Speaker 8: What about your darling darling?
- 14:12Speaker 4: Ten short years, he's getting old and drunk.
- 14:15Speaker 8: I don't think it's very fair.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Cold shot love, but it's old and it is my friend.
- 14:20Speaker 8: No one lives forever, let's have a party, there's a
- 14:24Speaker 8: full moon.
- 14:24Speaker 9: In the sky.
- 14:25Speaker 8: It's the hour of the wolf and I don't wanna die.
- 14:36Speaker 17: I'm so happy Dancing low the drimmer He percuts, cuts,
- 14:40Speaker 17: cuts But he can't get me I'm as clever.
- 14:43Speaker 1: As he can be And I'm very quick.
- 14:44Speaker 17: But don't forget We've only got so many tricks Now
- 14:47Speaker 17: I'm as clever guitar.
- 14:49Speaker 8: Solo Enjoy it while you can.
- 16:05Speaker 4: It's just like the weather.
- 16:06Speaker 8: So quit complaining, brother. No one lives forever. This is
- 16:11Speaker 8: a party. There's a food in the sky. It's the
- 16:13Speaker 8: hour of the wolf and I don't want to die.
- 16:16Speaker 8: No one beats it as they will go long because
- 16:19Speaker 8: they say who cares? There's no place to hide. No
- 16:22Speaker 8: where to run. No time to cry.
- 16:25Speaker 17: No one, no one, no one, no one No one,
- 16:32Speaker 17: no one, no one, no one No one lives forever.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Police.
- 16:45Speaker 4: I know.
- 16:45Speaker 7: I know.
- 16:45Speaker 1: A skeleton. Keep calm.
- 16:47Speaker 4: Turn off all the lights. Make sure the doors are locked.
- 16:49Speaker 4: It's one of those, I don't... I know him mostly
- 16:52Speaker 4: through these kind of things. Like, I know him through
- 16:54Speaker 4: the soundtrack stuff. I know him through, like... Danny Elfman? Yeah,
- 16:57Speaker 4: Danny Elfman. And Oingo Boingo. Because, like, he's been in movies. Like,
- 17:01Speaker 4: the band's been in movies. He's done, you know, the
- 17:04Speaker 4: voice of Jack. The singing voice of Jack. Just to
- 17:06Speaker 4: be clear. Of course, Sarandon will get pissed if you
- 17:09Speaker 4: don't give him the right credit. Right. But, yeah, otherwise,
- 17:12Speaker 4: it's one of those, like, I still... don't know that
- 17:14Speaker 4: I have a full album. Like I love what I've heard,
- 17:16Speaker 4: but it's one of those, I just keep forgetting to
- 17:19Speaker 4: go back and do my homework and like just buy
- 17:21Speaker 4: a bunch of their albums and like totally immerse myself
- 17:23Speaker 4: in them. But they were kind of amazing back then.
- 17:26Speaker 4: Like there's, there's like those, like one of those old
- 17:30Speaker 4: concert films that I played on one of these episodes
- 17:32Speaker 4: years ago. That's just like all these different bands from
- 17:35Speaker 4: like late seventies and early eighties, like come together into
- 17:38Speaker 4: this one movie. And it's just like all these crazy,
- 17:40Speaker 4: like punk rock bands. And then there's like bands from
- 17:43Speaker 4: London and, And then just oingo boingo, like right when
- 17:45Speaker 4: they were hitting it and they were badass. So it
- 17:49Speaker 4: is one of those, like I'm always impressed with them
- 17:51Speaker 4: and Danny in particular. So yeah, I need to go.
- 17:54Speaker 14: You might see a strange resurgence of oingo boingo, maybe like,
- 17:59Speaker 14: you know, Steven Spielberg's working on the ready player one movie.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:02Speaker 4: And that song dead man's party is like the whole
- 18:05Speaker 4: book and the whole movie is just full of eighties throwback,
- 18:07Speaker 4: but that song's real important early in the story. So
- 18:10Speaker 4: it'd be interesting to see if Danny Elfman himself, like,
- 18:14Speaker 4: I don't know. Somehow, maybe, you know, signs off or
- 18:18Speaker 4: gets involved or something with that. He seems like he's
- 18:20Speaker 4: dialed it back a little bit lately. Like everything's not,
- 18:23Speaker 4: every score isn't shoved down your throat. I guess maybe
- 18:26Speaker 4: because Tim Burton's moved in other, right? I mean, it's still,
- 18:29Speaker 4: he's trying to do other things, but I mean, that's
- 18:31Speaker 4: the thing he can do so many other things. types
- 18:34Speaker 4: of music that he just sort of fell into what
- 18:36Speaker 4: worked and what made him money. Have you seen his
- 18:38Speaker 4: recent thing that he just did this week?
- 18:41Speaker 8: No.
- 18:42Speaker 4: I don't know his motivations. I just saw the YouTube
- 18:45Speaker 4: clip and if it's real, I'm assuming it's real. I
- 18:49Speaker 4: just saw a couple different things. No one called it
- 18:50Speaker 4: out as fake. But I guess he did.
- 18:53Speaker 14: A minute and a half orchestra score for the presidential debate.
- 18:58Speaker 14: Because he said something like Trump was like leering over
- 19:02Speaker 14: Clinton's You know, the one where they got to walk
- 19:04Speaker 14: around and stuff. And I guess he felt like he
- 19:06Speaker 14: was so creepy in the background that he took like
- 19:08Speaker 14: a minute and a half of the debate and did
- 19:10Speaker 14: some creepy score where it's like Trump, like, you know,
- 19:13Speaker 14: mean mugging her in the background.
- 19:14Speaker 4: And it's on YouTube. It sounds like Elfman. I'm like, wow,
- 19:17Speaker 4: are you that bored? Like you just, you see a
- 19:19Speaker 4: presidential debate, you hammer out like a minute and a half.
- 19:21Speaker 4: I think I can write something for that. Maybe. Yeah.
- 19:25Speaker 4: He's looking for new directions. I guess this is the
- 19:27Speaker 4: way to go. Has he ever won an award for anything?
- 19:30Speaker 14: You know, because I kind of feel like it's the
- 19:32Speaker 14: John Williams thing where it's like John Williams still can't
- 19:34Speaker 14: quite get that Oscar, Emmy, whatever.
- 19:38Speaker 4: I think John Williams has one, but Elfman, I don't remember. Yeah,
- 19:42Speaker 4: I feel like maybe he's gotten nominated early on, but
- 19:44Speaker 4: now he's so... It's just a foregone conclusion. Obviously, he's
- 19:48Speaker 4: going to be in a Tim Burton movie. It's going
- 19:50Speaker 4: to sound like most Tim, you know, Danny Elfman stuff. So, yeah,
- 19:54Speaker 4: I feel like now they wouldn't really pay much attention
- 19:57Speaker 4: to him unless he did something drastically different, which he
- 19:59Speaker 4: can do if you look back in his old catalog.
- 20:00Speaker 4: He's done non-Burton stuff before, right?
- 20:03Speaker 14: I'm blanking out, but I swear, you know, within the
- 20:05Speaker 14: last 10 years, I want to say there was some
- 20:08Speaker 14: movie I watched. And, you know, I didn't turn it
- 20:10Speaker 14: off right away when the credits rolled. I saw him
- 20:13Speaker 14: as the, you know, doing the score. I mean, I'm surprised, like, whoa,
- 20:16Speaker 14: Elfin did this?
- 20:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean. Like, it was something really different. Again,
- 20:19Speaker 4: if you go back and look, like, he's done, like,
- 20:23Speaker 4: he did the entire, like, musical score for Midnight Run. Like,
- 20:26Speaker 4: the Charles Broden. Yeah, the old school. And it's, like,
- 20:29Speaker 4: kind of jazzy. Like, there's horns. Like, it's. Well, you
- 20:32Speaker 4: did that Noingle Boingo. I don't know if he was
- 20:34Speaker 4: attached to those guys still, but you get that vibe.
- 20:38Speaker 4: There's definitely a horn section in Noingle Boingo. He's capable
- 20:42Speaker 4: of so many other things, but again, this is what
- 20:46Speaker 4: makes him money. I can't blame him. You do what
- 20:48Speaker 4: your career becomes, whether you're in charge of it. It
- 20:51Speaker 4: doesn't always happen the way you plan.
- 20:55Speaker 5: Alright.
- 20:57Speaker 4: I guess we should move.
- 20:59Speaker 5: On.
- 20:59Speaker 4: So, I also found I don't think I saw that one. Again,
- 21:04Speaker 4: it's pretty interesting as movies go. It's kind of not
- 21:08Speaker 4: what you expect. I assume it's just another slashery kind
- 21:11Speaker 4: of thing when I first saw all the advertising back
- 21:14Speaker 4: when it came out. But it's different anyway. Is it
- 21:18Speaker 4: still 90s? Some of these are kind of not. And
- 21:22Speaker 4: then some of them are just weird offshoots. Like this one.
- 21:28Speaker 4: This is Like Eating Glass. from Block Party.
- 22:57Speaker 6: In this house It's so cold.
- 24:13Speaker 9: It's okay. It's okay.
- 24:16Speaker 8: It's okay. You can tell they're very British. Because they're
- 25:25Speaker 8: like eating gloss.
- 25:50Speaker 4: But, you know, like drinking poison, like eating glass. It's
- 25:53Speaker 4: pretty horror-esque if you ask me. So I thought that
- 25:56Speaker 4: was an interesting one to work in here.
- 25:57Speaker 14: This is like a nice angsty ex-girlfriend kind of song.
- 26:02Speaker 14: Dating you was like eating glass. I think there's one
- 26:05Speaker 14: of those on here.
- 26:08Speaker 4: Or on one of these. They're all kind of angsty
- 26:10Speaker 4: 90s stuff. That was like the 90s bread and butter.
- 26:14Speaker 14: Oh yeah either talking about your psycho ex-girlfriend or the
- 26:18Speaker 14: psycho ex-boyfriend girlfriend both it was just like that was
- 26:22Speaker 14: when poe came out right wasn't poe 90s but she
- 26:24Speaker 14: did like trigger happy jack and like a whole cd
- 26:26Speaker 14: just based on a psycho.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Ex-boyfriend late 90s i'm thinking seems like around there much
- 26:32Speaker 4: like the faculty oh wow Which crosses over into sci-fi
- 26:38Speaker 4: horror and sort of... Because it was a little bit
- 26:41Speaker 4: of an Invasion of the Body Snatchers thing, wasn't it?
- 26:43Speaker 4: It's very... It's been a minute since I saw that one. Well, again,
- 26:46Speaker 4: it's like... This is Rodriguez. People kind of forget this
- 26:51Speaker 4: is Robert Rodriguez. I didn't remember that at all. Yeah,
- 26:54Speaker 4: he's so not afraid to totally... let's say, pay homage
- 27:00Speaker 4: to his things that he loves, much like Quentin, they're
- 27:03Speaker 4: bestest pals, and they both are like, let's not shy
- 27:06Speaker 4: away from the fact that I love this other thing,
- 27:08Speaker 4: so I'm going to do this thing that's kind of
- 27:10Speaker 4: like the things I like crammed together, and this is
- 27:12Speaker 4: totally like that. If you go back and watch it,
- 27:15Speaker 4: it's so much Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but then,
- 27:18Speaker 4: because it's the teen thing, again, they work in- Is
- 27:21Speaker 4: this one where the whole town is watching the kids
- 27:23Speaker 4: and everything they do, or am I mixing this up
- 27:24Speaker 4: with another one? I think that's another, that's- I would
- 27:28Speaker 4: have worked that in, because I kind of like that one, actually.
- 27:30Speaker 4: That has a weird little Pleasantville gone wrong kind of
- 27:33Speaker 4: a thing.
- 27:33Speaker 10: Right, right.
- 27:34Speaker 4: It's like, that's pretty fun, actually. But no, this one's
- 27:37Speaker 4: just mostly high school based, and all the teachers start
- 27:42Speaker 4: kind of turning, and then other kids start kind of...
- 27:44Speaker 4: So it becomes a like... And it's also a little thing,
- 27:47Speaker 4: like who can you trust? Who's already turned, and how
- 27:49Speaker 4: do I know? You're really my friend, and even though
- 27:52Speaker 4: you look like my friend, and... So you get a
- 27:54Speaker 4: lot of that. There's a very, again, pulling odd things
- 27:57Speaker 4: to steal from. There's a very life force scene at
- 28:00Speaker 4: the end.
- 28:01Speaker 7: Really?
- 28:01Speaker 4: That's digging deep to go for that one. But again,
- 28:03Speaker 4: it's Rodriguez. He's a geek. But it's also, I think,
- 28:06Speaker 4: Kevin Williamson. Again, scream writer. So you're pulling it and
- 28:11Speaker 4: making it sort of super almost self-conscious horror. It's sort
- 28:17Speaker 4: of that self-aware wave that started kicking in right around then.
- 28:21Speaker 4: And then it like runs rampant now. Like that's all
- 28:23Speaker 4: we have is self-aware horror movies now. But this was like, again,
- 28:27Speaker 4: Scream's kind of the beginning of that. And this was
- 28:29Speaker 4: like after the first Scream. So yeah, it's like Williamson
- 28:32Speaker 4: working with Robert Rodriguez. So there's a lot of cheesy
- 28:34Speaker 4: elements there. But I think this was a really fun movie.
- 28:37Speaker 4: And there's a ton of like, again, it's all like
- 28:41Speaker 4: school based. It's all high school. So you're going to
- 28:43Speaker 4: have covers of I'm 18 and Another Brick in the Wall.
- 28:46Speaker 4: And like anything you can work in. School's out, of course.
- 28:49Speaker 4: You have to have a version of School's out. It's
- 28:51Speaker 4: like a prerequisite for any movie that involves kids, specifically
- 28:55Speaker 4: if it's in a high school. You have to have
- 28:57Speaker 4: a scene that's like just a little crossover scene where
- 29:00Speaker 4: that plays as kids are leaving school. Even if it's
- 29:02Speaker 4: just like 15 seconds. Yeah, you gotta pay for it
- 29:06Speaker 4: and put it in there. It's in the bylaws of Hollywood,
- 29:09Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure. But this one brought up another situation,
- 29:13Speaker 4: which is there are also bands that I know specifically
- 29:16Speaker 4: because of soundtracks. One of which is Stabbing Westward.
- 29:20Speaker 10: Oh, wow.
- 29:21Speaker 14: I definitely knew them before movie soundtracks because I went
- 29:24Speaker 14: from Nine Inch Nails right to Stabbing Westward.
- 29:26Speaker 4: I like them, but it's one of those I started thinking.
- 29:28Speaker 4: What song did they use in that soundtrack? I don't
- 29:31Speaker 4: think I have a Stabbing Westward album, but I have
- 29:34Speaker 4: like 12 songs by them because there was that run
- 29:37Speaker 4: in this era and it continued into the early 2000s. Well,
- 29:40Speaker 4: I remember his music was in a lot of trailers
- 29:42Speaker 4: and stuff at the time. I worked at the theater
- 29:44Speaker 4: at the time and it seemed like they just ran
- 29:45Speaker 4: with that dude's voice. It was almost like the same
- 29:48Speaker 4: two or three songs, but it was like... I like them.
- 29:51Speaker 4: That's the thing. That's why I was kind of like, oh, well,
- 29:53Speaker 4: if nothing else, I'm going to pick that just because
- 29:55Speaker 4: I like Stabbing Westward. I saw that band in concert
- 29:57Speaker 4: in the 90s. How cool are you? Here in Louisville,
- 30:01Speaker 4: like he played, I don't think, what was it called?
- 30:04Speaker 4: The Thunderdome? What was the little, the bar? Not Thunderdome.
- 30:08Speaker 4: What was it? It was actually. Was it actually called Thunderdome? Yeah,
- 30:11Speaker 4: they weren't real imaginative, obviously. It was a cross from
- 30:14Speaker 4: the volleyball bar. And then like across the street was
- 30:18Speaker 4: a crappy bar. And then they built a little section
- 30:20Speaker 4: on the side that, At least had enough room to
- 30:22Speaker 4: put people in to bring in middle range bands. I
- 30:25Speaker 4: saw a lot of really great shows there.
- 30:29Speaker 14: It blows me away in retrospect how little that place was.
- 30:31Speaker 14: They had big mainstream bands playing that little place back then.
- 30:34Speaker 4: I saw, again... Fugazi?
- 30:37Speaker 8: Danzig?
- 30:38Speaker 4: Years later, as I'm talking to John Doe, I saw
- 30:41Speaker 4: the John Doe thing, which was his band after X.
- 30:45Speaker 4: That played there.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Like, Julianne Hatfield played there. Yeah, I was at that one, too.
- 30:49Speaker 8: Wow.
- 30:50Speaker 4: I was there. She'd been hanging out a long time ago. Yeah,
- 30:53Speaker 4: they had some cool stuff there. So, yeah, this one has, again,
- 30:58Speaker 4: I thought very fitting for the episode, Haunting Me.
- 31:01Speaker 8: Haunting Me. It feels that way when I look in
- 32:24Speaker 8: your eyes now.
- 32:25Speaker 6: The truth is cast inside of me.
- 32:31Speaker 4: Whoever said love is real.
- 32:32Speaker 18: And love is blood has never felt the way that
- 32:36Speaker 18: I feel.
- 34:28Speaker 5: Matter can I get your ghost Bob.
- 34:32Speaker 4: I think that one is very angsty 90s relationship oh
- 34:35Speaker 4: man if you think the songs you have heard are
- 34:38Speaker 4: angsty you should listen to a CD I mean he
- 34:40Speaker 4: just has I mean it you can just see him
- 34:43Speaker 4: in his room like crying smoking cigarettes like writing.
- 34:48Speaker 14: Whoever this girl is she just absolutely ripped his heart
- 34:51Speaker 14: out like just modern Edgar Allen Poe stuff that he
- 34:56Speaker 14: was just like broken inside.
- 35:00Speaker 4: Anyway, moving on, I also, as I started doing these,
- 35:05Speaker 4: I realized from the very first episode, I was like, okay,
- 35:07Speaker 4: along the way, I'm also going to, because I set
- 35:10Speaker 4: up the guidelines to this show, but they're not hard rules.
- 35:14Speaker 4: And by the way, I run the show, so I
- 35:16Speaker 4: can do whatever the hell I want. So from the
- 35:17Speaker 4: very first time, I was like, okay, I also am
- 35:19Speaker 4: going to play stuff that's from soundtracks, but there's interesting
- 35:23Speaker 4: covers of them, which is cool. And then I got to,
- 35:26Speaker 4: I could not buy the soundtrack for Cursed. i actually
- 35:32Speaker 4: just saw which one's cursed i just saw this this
- 35:34Speaker 4: year like it's one of those i knew of it
- 35:36Speaker 4: and kind of went oh yeah that seems kind of
- 35:38Speaker 4: cool speaking of casper it's west craven this is like
- 35:44Speaker 4: screen 2.5 like it's in the middle somewhere i think
- 35:50Speaker 4: maybe it's before three Like, legit, it's in the Scream trilogy?
- 35:54Speaker 4: Or are you just saying, like, it feels like... No,
- 35:55Speaker 4: but it is Scream. Like, you can go home and
- 35:58Speaker 4: watch this and tell me it does not feel like
- 36:00Speaker 4: Scream 1 1⁄2, 2 1⁄2. Like, it feels so Scream.
- 36:05Speaker 4: So he just tried to do his own thing again?
- 36:07Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, he kind of perfected it. Like, it
- 36:10Speaker 4: is weird, because he takes a turn. Like, you look
- 36:12Speaker 4: at his older stuff, and it doesn't really match Scream. Like,
- 36:15Speaker 4: Scream has a different vibe. Right, you can tell. It
- 36:17Speaker 4: might have been the Williamson writing, too. But still, like...
- 36:22Speaker 4: This movie, Cursed, feels so much like Scream, just in
- 36:27Speaker 4: the tone. Like, again, the story is totally different. It's
- 36:30Speaker 4: a werewolf movie, and it has Christina Ricci and a
- 36:34Speaker 4: then-unknown Jesse Eisenberg.
- 36:37Speaker 17: Really?
- 36:38Speaker 4: Is her brother. How old is he in this? He's...
- 36:41Speaker 4: I mean, again, he always looks the same. So I
- 36:43Speaker 4: guess this was right at the point when he was breaking,
- 36:45Speaker 4: because he was coming up in some indie movies around
- 36:47Speaker 4: this time. So this is around Zombieland? No, this was... Well,
- 36:50Speaker 4: this is like... Let's see if we've got a date
- 36:53Speaker 4: on this thing.
- 36:53Speaker 8: 2006.
- 36:57Speaker 4: So that would have been a few years. Oh, Zombieland,
- 36:59Speaker 4: like 2010-ish? Yeah.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Wow.
- 37:01Speaker 4: Yeah, so this would have been a few years before Zombieland.
- 37:04Speaker 4: Because that was the first movie I know Eisenberg from.
- 37:06Speaker 4: I hadn't seen him in anything prior. I'd seen him before,
- 37:07Speaker 4: because he's in Squid and the Whale, isn't he? And
- 37:09Speaker 4: I'd seen that... So I've seen him in stuff before Zombieland.
- 37:13Speaker 4: But again, it seemed weird. Like, wait, he's going to
- 37:17Speaker 4: be in Zombieland? Like, that seemed like a weird turn.
- 37:19Speaker 4: And then you watch it and go, oh, no, they
- 37:21Speaker 4: knew what they were doing. Yeah, Michael Cera was busy.
- 37:23Speaker 4: So we got Eisenberg. And since then, now I'm like,
- 37:26Speaker 4: because it was such a joke that he was so
- 37:28Speaker 4: much like Michael Cera. But I'm like, now I'm like,
- 37:29Speaker 4: I kind of like his version of it better as
- 37:31Speaker 4: time's gone on. Like, Michael Cera seems weird and got
- 37:35Speaker 4: weirder as he went on. And like, it's, yeah. Scott Pilgrim.
- 37:40Speaker 4: bought a little for him in my opinion like i
- 37:42Speaker 4: was like okay i get i get you here being
- 37:44Speaker 4: like this but some of those other ones and i
- 37:46Speaker 4: don't mind it in the rest of development because everyone's
- 37:48Speaker 4: so obnoxious oh yeah but when you see him like
- 37:51Speaker 4: in other stuff doing the same thing it's like dude
- 37:53Speaker 4: are you just like this all the time are you
- 37:54Speaker 4: even acting or is this just yeah like is this
- 37:56Speaker 4: just how you are where yeah you look at eisenberg
- 37:58Speaker 4: it's even as much as like his version of lex
- 38:01Speaker 4: luther right i think it's not good but like it
- 38:04Speaker 4: is certainly different than what he does and other stuff
- 38:07Speaker 4: trying it's like i still think he's yeah he's making
- 38:09Speaker 4: a very bold move it doesn't fit what they're trying
- 38:12Speaker 4: to do but like that's not his fault like again
- 38:15Speaker 4: that's more director yeah usually in that stuff on so
- 38:18Speaker 4: i still think his performance is good it just doesn't
- 38:20Speaker 4: match the movie that needs to be made maybe not
- 38:25Speaker 4: what got made but needs to be made so but
- 38:28Speaker 4: yeah this cursed was so much like i went in
- 38:31Speaker 4: and like I think I just, like, I chalked it
- 38:35Speaker 4: up to another horror movie. Like, again, in this era,
- 38:37Speaker 4: late 90s through mid-2000s. Everything wanted to be Scream. Everything
- 38:42Speaker 4: wanted to be Scream in the 90s. I guess this
- 38:43Speaker 4: late it would have been post-Scream 3. But I swear,
- 38:46Speaker 4: this is Scream 3 and a half then. Because it's so, like,
- 38:49Speaker 4: the tone is so much like Scream. But in, like,
- 38:52Speaker 4: a silly way that, like, I had so much fun
- 38:55Speaker 4: with this movie. Like, it's ridiculous. Is that Richie on
- 38:59Speaker 4: the cover to CD?
- 39:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:00Speaker 4: Because it kind of looks like Rihanna. To me, that
- 39:03Speaker 4: looks like Rihanna. That's kind of a lateral move, you know?
- 39:07Speaker 4: Just a little more tan. But other than that... But no, it's... Yeah,
- 39:11Speaker 4: it's like... Well, I say it's a great horror movie.
- 39:15Speaker 4: Probably not. I mean, it's equally as much kind of comedy.
- 39:19Speaker 4: Which Scream was too, though. Like I said, trying to
- 39:22Speaker 4: bottle his own lightning. That was, I think, what really...
- 39:24Speaker 4: That was his move.
- 39:25Speaker 14: Can you name a prior horror movie that had equally
- 39:28Speaker 14: as much humor as... Intentional humor as it did spooky stuff?
- 39:33Speaker 14: Scream really did go for a good comedic script.
- 39:36Speaker 4: Well, I say good. I haven't watched it forever. At
- 39:38Speaker 4: the time, I saw that movie three times in a theater.
- 39:40Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 39:41Speaker 4: I was a mark when Scream first came out. There's
- 39:44Speaker 4: some parts now that I see the strings really heavy.
- 39:47Speaker 8: It's so....
- 39:49Speaker 4: It's so heavy handed in certain aspects of it that's
- 39:52Speaker 4: trying really hard to be like, it's self-aware. It's a
- 39:56Speaker 4: comedy too, guys.
- 39:57Speaker 14: Well, the fact that your main guys love horror movies
- 40:01Speaker 14: and are talking about horror movies throughout the whole thing.
- 40:02Speaker 4: See, that I'm okay with. Again, I think that's just
- 40:04Speaker 4: sort of clever. That was them being kind of set
- 40:08Speaker 4: in the real world.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Right.
- 40:10Speaker 4: And felt very grounded that way which yeah like again
- 40:13Speaker 4: as horror geeks you're just like oh wait i get
- 40:15Speaker 4: this because it's.
- 40:15Speaker 14: The same thing how every zombie movie won't use the
- 40:16Speaker 14: word zombie yeah or not all of them but so
- 40:19Speaker 14: many of them a zombie thing happens and it's like
- 40:21Speaker 14: for some reason in that weird universe like the idea
- 40:24Speaker 14: of zombie doesn't exist so no one calls them zombies
- 40:26Speaker 14: call them walkers and we call them weird stuff and
- 40:28Speaker 14: it's like just acknowledge that the idea of zombie exists
- 40:32Speaker 14: one more reason.
- 40:32Speaker 4: Return of living dead is so awesome Not only does
- 40:35Speaker 4: it exist, but the movie Night of the Living Dead exists.
- 40:38Speaker 4: They mention it by name, and these monsters are the
- 40:42Speaker 4: same ones from that. It happened in the real world,
- 40:45Speaker 4: and then they made a fake movie about it. That's awesome. God,
- 40:47Speaker 4: I love that movie. Anyway, cursed. So, yeah, it's super
- 40:52Speaker 4: geeky post-Scream version of Scream, only adding a werewolf element
- 40:58Speaker 4: to it. Oh, my God, it's so much fun. It's
- 41:02Speaker 4: so ridiculous to watch. Werewolf movies are tough. Yeah. I mean,
- 41:05Speaker 4: it's hard.
- 41:05Speaker 14: You got a million good vampire movies, a million good
- 41:08Speaker 14: zombie movies, you know, good Frankenstein movies.
- 41:11Speaker 4: And no, I don't know about mummies and stuff.
- 41:13Speaker 14: Definitely plenty of good ghosts, but I mean, wolf, wolf, man, werewolves,
- 41:16Speaker 14: that's a very common horror creature. And we don't have that,
- 41:20Speaker 14: you know, knock it out the ballpark to me. I mean,
- 41:23Speaker 14: I'm sure there's probably some old school stuff that was
- 41:24Speaker 14: great for his time.
- 41:25Speaker 4: Yeah. Like the universal stuff still kind of cool.
- 41:28Speaker 14: Werewolf in London, you know, those classics are, you go
- 41:31Speaker 14: back and watch them and it's like, man, kind of
- 41:33Speaker 14: feel like maybe at the time that was super scary
- 41:36Speaker 14: yeah but there's not many of them that really.
- 41:38Speaker 4: Again yeah people still love american werewolf in london they
- 41:41Speaker 4: still uh again howling's pretty cool but again it's there's
- 41:46Speaker 4: parts of it that feels like a weird movie that
- 41:48Speaker 4: hadn't been competing with other werewolf movies because they really
- 41:52Speaker 4: weren't making them like that where now like everything feels
- 41:55Speaker 4: cliche because we've seen it all so many times so
- 41:58Speaker 4: We get ourselves into this scenario where it's like, how
- 42:00Speaker 4: do we compete with all the other movies we've already
- 42:02Speaker 4: seen before? I guess technically Twilight is a werewolf movie.
- 42:08Speaker 19: I mean.
- 42:09Speaker 4: Is Twilight horror?
- 42:10Speaker 14: Do you think for people that categorize stuff on shelves,
- 42:14Speaker 14: do they put Twilight in horror or do they put
- 42:16Speaker 14: it in romance?
- 42:17Speaker 4: Where do you put Twilight? I mean, at this point,
- 42:19Speaker 4: there has to be a romance slash horror section, right?
- 42:22Speaker 4: I mean, post-Twilight, they've done so much of that. You
- 42:25Speaker 4: have to. Romantic horror.
- 42:27Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 42:28Speaker 4: Horror romance. Next to your Beauty and the Beast box set.
- 42:31Speaker 4: You've got to have that like, he's sort of a monster,
- 42:34Speaker 4: but You know, you got to have that in.
- 42:36Speaker 14: I thought it was funny that whoever it is that
- 42:38Speaker 14: makes Twilight, I forget who the producers were behind.
- 42:40Speaker 4: That, but apparently like it was just silly. I thought
- 42:45Speaker 4: to me that like they tweeted or something, you know,
- 42:47Speaker 4: some kind of social media thing where they're like, yeah,
- 42:50Speaker 4: you know, Stephanie Meyer ever wrote anything else. We would
- 42:53Speaker 4: sure love to make a movie of it. It wasn't
- 42:56Speaker 4: like it was directly to her. It was like this
- 42:58Speaker 4: out in the open statement. Like, yeah, too bad Stephanie
- 43:01Speaker 4: Meyer hasn't wrote anything because we would love to make
- 43:03Speaker 4: more movies. By the way, lady. You do know how
- 43:07Speaker 4: much money you made on that? Why would you not
- 43:09Speaker 4: keep making crap anymore? JK Rowling is still laughing at you.
- 43:12Speaker 4: You got to catch up.
- 43:13Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 43:14Speaker 4: I mean, regardless. Well, that's the thing. Like, regardless of
- 43:16Speaker 4: whether or not people, you know, respect what you did. Mm-hmm.
- 43:20Speaker 4: there's still money.
- 43:21Speaker 15: To be made.
- 43:22Speaker 4: I mean, I'm sure this doofus that made Fifty Shades
- 43:25Speaker 4: of Grey will continue knocking out bad wannabe fan fiction
- 43:30Speaker 4: and they'll pay her a fortune for it. And keep
- 43:31Speaker 4: getting movies made of it.
- 43:33Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 43:33Speaker 14: I mean, that would be, I think, an excellent case
- 43:35Speaker 14: in point right there. It's like, if she had kept
- 43:38Speaker 14: writing Twilight stuff, Fifty Shades of Grey wouldn't have been necessary.
- 43:41Speaker 14: They would have just kept going with her material instead
- 43:44Speaker 14: of going with somebody that's writing fan fiction based on it.
- 43:46Speaker 14: But somebody had to carry the baton of crappy writing.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Oh.
- 43:51Speaker 4: Ah werewolves so that was my thing on this one
- 43:55Speaker 4: and this was the one i'm going to slightly uh
- 43:57Speaker 4: adjust and go back to my original play on this
- 44:01Speaker 4: and one of the reasons as i picked it up
- 44:03Speaker 4: i'm like all right track number one is a cover
- 44:06Speaker 4: of little red riding hood which is i love that
- 44:09Speaker 4: original song anyway sam the sham is awesome like that
- 44:13Speaker 4: song to be as weird and dark as it was
- 44:16Speaker 4: for that time period like is amazing. So it's awesome, but...
- 44:22Speaker 4: Who covers it? Bowling for Soup does not really do
- 44:25Speaker 4: it justice. Is that one of those bands where that
- 44:27Speaker 4: was their thing, where they do a lot of covers?
- 44:29Speaker 4: Or am I mixing them up with... Me First and
- 44:31Speaker 4: the Gaming Indians?
- 44:32Speaker 13: Yeah, okay.
- 44:32Speaker 4: They're good, though. Yeah, I don't know. Me First is fantastic.
- 44:35Speaker 4: I have an album that I'm going to work into
- 44:37Speaker 4: one of these shows. The Bar Mitzvah CD is the
- 44:39Speaker 4: greatest thing I've ever heard. Those guys were good. Where these, like... Yeah,
- 44:44Speaker 4: it's just not... No offense, Bowling for Soup, but it's
- 44:46Speaker 4: just not doing it justice. And I'm like, well, I
- 44:50Speaker 4: own the other best version of this that I know of.
- 44:54Speaker 4: And is it from a soundtrack? No, because this band
- 44:57Speaker 4: not only never got huge, but it's already gone. But
- 45:01Speaker 4: they were semi... Actually, regional. They were somewhere in this
- 45:05Speaker 4: general area. And for a while, they were touring around.
- 45:08Speaker 4: And we'd run into them and met them. And I
- 45:10Speaker 4: did a... Back in the print days, I did an
- 45:12Speaker 4: interview with them. And they were awesome. Their name is
- 45:16Speaker 4: Johnny Owen the Jerks.
- 45:18Speaker 5: And.
- 45:19Speaker 4: They do. To me, their version rivals the original. And
- 45:23Speaker 4: that's a bold statement for me. But I've heard a
- 45:25Speaker 4: lot of covers. I've listened to a couple other ones
- 45:27Speaker 4: that I didn't know about earlier today. And nothing comes
- 45:31Speaker 4: close to the original, except for this version. If you
- 45:36Speaker 4: run across, this album is called Taking Out the Trash-a-billy.
- 45:39Speaker 4: If you have any interest in rockabilly or gothabilly or
- 45:44Speaker 4: any bastardized version of rockabilly kind of stuff. Psychobilly. Psycho Billy,
- 45:49Speaker 4: this is an amazing album. And again, they've already parted ways.
- 45:54Speaker 4: So this was a magical space and time where these
- 45:57Speaker 4: three guys were together. I saw them play live at
- 46:00Speaker 4: least twice. They were amazing live. To be like a
- 46:04Speaker 4: three-piece and their friend Ryan, who now plays with Pokey Lafarge,
- 46:08Speaker 4: was playing harmonica. And it was amazing. In like a
- 46:12Speaker 4: tiny bar here in town. And to be able to
- 46:15Speaker 4: go back and see them now. because I don't know
- 46:18Speaker 4: what happened. Two of them broke off into other bands,
- 46:21Speaker 4: and the other guy, I think, runs the record label
- 46:23Speaker 4: they were on. I'm like, that's it. I don't think
- 46:25Speaker 4: there's any more from them. I was like, I'm going
- 46:29Speaker 4: to stray out of the official soundtrack here and play
- 46:32Speaker 4: you a better version. You're welcome, because this version is badass.
- 46:37Speaker 4: This is Johnny O and the Jerks.
- 46:41Speaker 8: Who's that I see walking in these woods?
- 46:48Speaker 11: Why, that's Little Red Riding Hood.
- 46:54Speaker 7: Hey there, Little Red Riding Hood.
- 46:59Speaker 6: You sure are looking good.
- 47:02Speaker 1: Everything a big bad wolf could want.
- 47:08Speaker 8: Now listen to me.
- 47:10Speaker 1: Little Red Riding Hood.
- 47:15Speaker 6: I don't think that big girl should go.
- 47:19Speaker 7: Walking in the spooky old woods alone.
- 47:28Speaker 8: What big eyes you have And other eyes.
- 47:32Speaker 1: That drive wolf man.
- 47:35Speaker 17: So see that you don't get chased I think I
- 47:39Speaker 17: ought to walk with you four ways What.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Four lips you have Could sure love some wolf man.
- 47:50Speaker 7: I feel like getting to grandma's place I think I.
- 47:54Speaker 8: Ought to walk with you to be.
- 47:56Speaker 19: Saved I'm gonna keep my sheep suit on Until.
- 48:02Speaker 8: I'm sure that you've been shown That I can be just,
- 48:07Speaker 8: just one with you alone.
- 48:16Speaker 7: I'd like to hold you if I could But you
- 48:21Speaker 7: might think I'm a big bad wolf So I won't
- 48:27Speaker 7: What a big heart I have All the better just
- 48:35Speaker 7: to love you with Little red riding hood Even bad wolves.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Just walk on by my side Before we get to
- 48:54Speaker 1: Grandma's place You ought to.
- 48:57Speaker 8: See things just.
- 48:58Speaker 7: My way Little Red Riding Hood.
- 49:04Speaker 6: You sure are looking good.
- 49:08Speaker 7: You're everything a big bad wolf could want.
- 49:14Speaker 9: Ow Ow.
- 49:40Speaker 6: Ever since the other night, things are happening.
- 50:08Speaker 4: Things i can't explain all right so just because i
- 50:12Speaker 4: i you know avoided that song um to work something
- 50:16Speaker 4: in and here's where we're gonna here's where we're gonna
- 50:18Speaker 4: play hard into the 90s which is weird because this
- 50:21Speaker 4: is 2006 as we said so there's gonna be a
- 50:23Speaker 4: boy band on here um no no this is uh
- 50:26Speaker 4: but i i always think it's funny when somebody like
- 50:28Speaker 4: makes a special version of the song just for a
- 50:31Speaker 4: soundtrack so i kind of have to work those into
- 50:33Speaker 4: these shows because i think it's funny this is better
- 50:36Speaker 4: now The Cursed Mix, parentheses, by Collective Soul. Yeah, yeah.
- 50:59Speaker 8: Oh, I'm newly calibrated. Yeah, yeah.
- 51:03Speaker 16: Oh, shiny and clean.
- 51:07Speaker 8: From your recent adaptation.
- 51:11Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Time to redefine.
- 51:38Speaker 18: Oh, I'm happy as Christmas.
- 51:40Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah.
- 51:42Speaker 9: All wrapped in PC.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 51:46Speaker 8: I'm your recent acquisition.
- 51:48Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 51:50Speaker 19: Time to celebrate me.
- 51:54Speaker 8: Let the word out. I've got to get out.
- 52:09Speaker 1: The world's done shaking, the world's done shaking me down.
- 53:46Speaker 8: I'm feeling much better now.
- 53:48Speaker 4: Collective Soul. I saw it at a concert.
- 53:51Speaker 8: Oh, Lord.
- 53:51Speaker 4: I feel bad saying it. Did they open for somebody? No,
- 53:53Speaker 4: this is what's funny. Yes, actually. That's what I was
- 53:55Speaker 4: going to say. Who did they open for?
- 53:56Speaker 8: It was.
- 53:57Speaker 4: what was that show at the time? I think it
- 54:00Speaker 4: was blues travelers, collective soul. And I want to say, Oh,
- 54:07Speaker 4: what's her name? Cheryl Crow. It was some weird thing
- 54:09Speaker 4: where I was like, Oh, well, like I can see
- 54:12Speaker 4: the other two kind of being paired up, but there's,
- 54:15Speaker 4: there's still kind of, it was at the palace.
- 54:17Speaker 14: And here's what's funny. Well, funny, I guess to me,
- 54:20Speaker 14: cause I wasn't there for collective soul, but they were
- 54:21Speaker 14: like the main event. So I stayed cause I'm like, Oh,
- 54:24Speaker 14: I'm here.
- 54:25Speaker 20: All right.
- 54:25Speaker 4: And, um, so when the show's over, the drummer throws
- 54:29Speaker 4: the drumsticks out into the crowd. I caught it. And like,
- 54:33Speaker 4: I like, I like just kind of like threw it
- 54:36Speaker 4: down real quick. Like I just caught like a mouse
- 54:38Speaker 4: or I was just like, Oh, like I literally dropped it.
- 54:41Speaker 4: And the person right in front of me, like yanked
- 54:43Speaker 4: it up real quick. Like I had just dropped gold.
- 54:45Speaker 4: I was like, I don't want that. Ew, gross sweat.
- 54:48Speaker 4: Drummer sweat.
- 54:48Speaker 7: Gross.
- 54:52Speaker 4: Oh, well that's way more connected to collective soul than
- 54:55Speaker 4: I am. It's one of those, like, And that's what
- 54:57Speaker 4: I keep running. I want to come back, because this
- 54:59Speaker 4: one I was at least trying to shove the slant
- 55:02Speaker 4: towards horror, but I do want to come back in
- 55:05Speaker 4: ones that are just, because I've gotten so many out
- 55:07Speaker 4: of this little buying spree in the last year, that
- 55:09Speaker 4: I'm like, wow, there really is a 90s sound. Like,
- 55:13Speaker 4: I'm so used to, like, the 80s definitely have a sound,
- 55:16Speaker 4: and the 70s have a sound, but you're like, nah, no,
- 55:19Speaker 4: 90s definitely had a sound. And, like, it is all
- 55:22Speaker 4: over these 90s soundtracks. So it's like, I want to
- 55:24Speaker 4: come back and do one that's very, like, Let's just
- 55:27Speaker 4: go knee deep in the 90s here with the soundtrack.
- 55:30Speaker 4: So we're coming back to that, guys. I think it's
- 55:32Speaker 4: starting to come back around.
- 55:33Speaker 14: I was just kind of noticing just on the way
- 55:35Speaker 14: here even, when I was coming down Bardistown Road on
- 55:39Speaker 14: the way here, there's a lot of tied flannels going on.
- 55:44Speaker 4: There's a lot of grunge-influenced fashion. And I'm not bringing
- 55:48Speaker 4: it back. I've never stopped wearing my flannel shirts because
- 55:52Speaker 4: I'm not doing it to be cool. I'm talking teenagers, though.
- 55:54Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying? I'm not saying they're doing
- 55:56Speaker 4: weird stuff these days. I got to say.
- 55:57Speaker 14: Man, I was at an intersection. I honestly counted six.
- 56:02Speaker 14: I'm standing there like- And by the way, it's hot out, kids.
- 56:04Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like 80 degrees. It's really freaking hot. I
- 56:06Speaker 4: know it's October. And I'm saying as I have one,
- 56:08Speaker 4: but I also didn't know if it was going to
- 56:09Speaker 4: be cold or hot in here. This was function. I
- 56:12Speaker 4: was like, well, it might be cold. I'm going to
- 56:13Speaker 4: bring a flannel. Again, that's what mine's always been. I
- 56:15Speaker 4: was wearing it well before. I look back and there's
- 56:17Speaker 4: pictures of me with another shirt on top of a
- 56:19Speaker 4: shirt in the- late early 80s like i'm just like
- 56:23Speaker 4: i wasn't doing it to be cool it was just
- 56:25Speaker 4: what i did and it always makes me think of
- 56:28Speaker 4: puffer vests with no sleeves you know that's what i
- 56:30Speaker 4: was gonna say if i stole the shirt on top
- 56:32Speaker 4: of a shirt from anything it wasn't the 90s era
- 56:34Speaker 4: it was marty mcfly there you go marty mcfly is
- 56:37Speaker 4: wearing a t-shirt and another shirt and suspenders and a
- 56:41Speaker 4: jacket and a denim jacket which i also had that
- 56:43Speaker 4: denim jacket and the puffer vest on top of that
- 56:47Speaker 4: like dude was layered So if I stole it from anybody,
- 56:50Speaker 4: it's probably very consciously Marty McFly.

- 58:23Speaker 4: All right, speaking of cheesy movies, like we have been
- 58:27Speaker 4: the whole time, I think we're taking it up in
- 58:29Speaker 4: the cheesy area now. Scooby-Doo. Oh, my gosh. Now, I mean,
- 58:36Speaker 4: I already had this, actually, but since we just saw
- 58:39Speaker 4: Matthew Lillard a couple weeks ago in the real world
- 58:42Speaker 4: and spoke to him very briefly. This kind of comes
- 58:45Speaker 4: back around on Scream, doesn't it? Wasn't he in Scream? Oh, yeah. But,
- 58:48Speaker 4: I mean, to me, this is his neck. That's the thing. Like,
- 58:51Speaker 4: in line there. There was tons of posters for Scream.
- 58:56Speaker 4: And then a good amount of shots of him as Shaq.
- 58:59Speaker 4: And that's the thing. You can make fun of these
- 59:00Speaker 4: movies as much as you want. Nothing from hackers? No
- 59:02Speaker 4: hackers at all? they're not see that's the thing we're
- 59:06Speaker 4: that's like a teenage him and hackers right serial killer
- 59:09Speaker 4: wasn't that yeah that's him um but no misty was
- 59:13Speaker 4: the one going what no without a paddle so like
- 59:17Speaker 4: again there's always some there was the other did he
- 59:19Speaker 4: laugh at that did he think that was funny i
- 59:21Speaker 4: think that was just us in line exclaiming as we
- 59:23Speaker 4: went past but no the uh the other one was
- 59:27Speaker 4: like there was a one or two SLC punk.
- 59:31Speaker 13: Gotcha.
- 59:31Speaker 4: I'm like, that's again, it's, it's a deep geek thing
- 59:35Speaker 4: that like, if you're, so that's the one like Jay
- 59:37Speaker 4: was there like, dude, SLC punk was my movie, man.
- 59:39Speaker 4: Like for the kids that were into that, like he
- 59:42Speaker 4: was their man. So there's a little bit of that,
- 59:44Speaker 4: but for the most part, it was mostly scream. And
- 59:47Speaker 4: then a good amount, including that little kid dressed in
- 59:49Speaker 4: a full on Scooby-Doo costume.
- 59:51Speaker 8: Wow.
- 59:51Speaker 4: It was kind of adorable. It's ridiculous. But that's the thing.
- 59:55Speaker 4: Like you can make fun of these movies. They're pretty ridiculous.
- 59:59Speaker 4: The first one, I mean, you have to give a
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: little bit of writing credit because that's James Gunn. Is
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: it really?
- 1:00:06Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: So again, I think that's why it's as clever as
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: it is. I remember not hating it. I just remember,
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: I mean, I was an older dude. It wasn't like
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: I was judging it. I was like, oh no, I
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: would completely understand a kid watching a Scooby-Doo movie and
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: loving it. Well, I remember even at the time when
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: they announced it, I'm like, oh God, they're going to
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: make a live action Scooby-Doo. And then they were like,
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: Matthew Lillard is shagging. I'm like, No, that's pretty good.
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: I'm just like, you can't. You can't argue. And then
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: seeing it, I was like, oh, shit. Because you know he.
- 1:00:35Speaker 14: Has to carry the whole scene. Because you're working with
- 1:00:38Speaker 14: basically Jar Jar. You're working with a computer thing that's
- 1:00:40Speaker 14: not there. So yeah, you need someone that can just
- 1:00:43Speaker 14: be ridiculous and crazy on his own. And as hackers
- 1:00:46Speaker 14: and everything they've shown, he can be ridiculous.
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: Not only the voice. got the voice full on Casey Kasem,
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: but like on top of that, like put that scruff
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: on his face and he's got the look off the shirt.
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: Like he was just, he just nailed it across the board.
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: And I was just like, that's impressive. Like, cause that's
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: a hard thing to be able to have to live
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: up to Shaggy. Like the one, I mean, that show
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: is the most, am I blanking out? Is it just
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: Geller or is Prince in that one too? No, he's
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: in that one. Right. It's both. Again, it's a pretty
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: impressive cat. Cause that's the other thing. That's the two
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: things I remember. Shaggy's bad-ass.
- 1:01:19Speaker 14: Velma is hot yeah honestly I think that's what started
- 1:01:24Speaker 14: like you know there's a huge fan art craze behind
- 1:01:27Speaker 14: her now where it's always her super sexy and I
- 1:01:29Speaker 14: think it's cause of that movie that movie over sexualized
- 1:01:33Speaker 14: her and it's just been that thing now look.
- 1:01:34Speaker 16: At her right there yeah look at that inlay that's
- 1:01:37Speaker 16: a deep cut that's a deep cut on that shirt
- 1:01:39Speaker 16: and it ain't by accident so and it's funny only
- 1:01:43Speaker 16: now I've since gone back and watched Freaks and Geeks
- 1:01:45Speaker 16: and I'm like damn I just like her in everything
- 1:01:48Speaker 16: You can keep casting her in Marvel movies.
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: Cause I'm okay with that. She is returned now. I
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: was keep going like, where the hell did she go?
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: Why is she not in more stuff? She is. I
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: just hadn't, I think she did like TV and I
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: just hadn't been watching any of it. It was, I
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: think I, did I work at the theater then? I don't,
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: I don't think I, I think I might've worked at
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: the theater. I don't know.
- 1:02:07Speaker 14: But I just remember like so many people being so
- 1:02:09Speaker 14: pissed at the end. It's like a Scooby-Doo movie and
- 1:02:12Speaker 14: everyone still wanted, I guess it maybe it was another,
- 1:02:14Speaker 14: you know, after effect to scream or everything had to
- 1:02:17Speaker 14: have a twist. everything had to have a twist and
- 1:02:19Speaker 14: when it was scrappy like so many people like spoiler alert.
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: Guys i don't want to ruin the scooby-doo movie for
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: you years later but it's weird like you know people
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: coming out there's like yeah what'd you think and it
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: was stupid scrappy i'm like okay but was it funny
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: like start to say it was mad at the whole
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: movie because it didn't have a good twist it was
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: also working that generational thing because it was one of
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: those like depending on when you caught it like if
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: you were a little kid that came up watching scooby-doo
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: when Scrappy was a thing, I think you were oblivious
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: to it. He was just one of the characters. If
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: you grew up with the old, like the 60s, early
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: 70s ones, those classic run of them, like Scrappy was
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: a bastardization of the show that you loved. So it
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: is like, if you were old school, you were like, bullshit,
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: I don't want Scrappy anywhere in this movie. And then, like,
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: the other people, again, so it became kind of that
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: dividing line of, like, are you super hardcore about the
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: original Scooby? That's the thing. That's a weird thing to
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: be hardcore about, though. Not really. Because that's the thing.
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: I will, like, stand by that original run of Scooby-Doo is, like,
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: some of my favorite cartoons. And I'm a dork that
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: watches cartoons all the damn time. And I'm like, that
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: original run. There's some other stuff later.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: Whatever.
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: Whatever. But the original lineup that they did, those first
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: season or two, and then when they brought in the
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: weird celebrity guest stars, that was still all the same
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: animators and voices. So that run right there is fucking perfect.
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: It is so entertaining. It's sort of cementing the genre.
- 1:03:45Speaker 14: I mean, the whole hallway scene with people running in
- 1:03:48Speaker 14: and out of doors left and right. I mean, that
- 1:03:50Speaker 14: all goes back to Scooby-Doo.
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: A lot of those very cliche sort of throwback things.
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: Eyes behind the painting watching you. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:03:56Speaker 14: All those things that cartoons today will still throw homage
- 1:03:59Speaker 14: to that goes back to scooby-doo i love that era
- 1:04:02Speaker 14: again that is hannah barbara right yeah.
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: That that to me is like the pinnacle of hannah
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: barbara because they get they get so lazy you talk
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: about the laugh olympics were awesome okay no that i
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: do i did i loved every week when i was
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: a kid i used to love the laugh olympics oh
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: my god but no it is one of those like
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: but you start seeing like how hacky they kind of
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: became with the other when they got successful then they
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: were like oh let's put a bunch of them out
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: so it's like There's so many of them that it's
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: the exact same scenario. It's the same dynamic over and
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: over and over again of a group of kids in
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: a vehicle, probably, with one that's either an animal or
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: something kind of animal-like. So it's like your Jabberjaw. They
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: became the blueprint that everyone refuses to deviate from. Yeah.
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: It's like either a group of kids solving mysteries, or
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: they're a rock band, or... both sometimes both but seriously
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: like what was the one where the shark is playing
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: the drums that was yeah the jabber jaw is a
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: shark playing the drums so it's sort of josie and
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: the pussycats and scooby-doo because the shark is kind of
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: the scooby of the bunch and then you've got and
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: that dude is just fred over and over again he's
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: in every one like speed buggy's kind of the same
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: way that dude with the ascots kind of fred the
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: guy driving is shaggy like look at him straight up
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: shaggy the car is scooby in the scenario because he
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: talks like It's the same every time you'd come back
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: to Captain Caveman. And I'm like, well, he's the Scooby.
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: The teen angels are in a van. They're a short one.
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: But other than that, it's the Scooby scenario again. They're
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: solving mysteries, for fuck's sakes. I'm like, Hanna-Barbera, you bastards.
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: If I didn't find you so entertaining, I would totally
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: call you out. But they're all still pretty damn entertaining.
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: But they all came from Scooby-Doo for me, anyway. I
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: love Scooby. I have problems. Anyway, this one, I went
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: with the most sort of cheesy haunted house-esque, very like
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: on a compilation of Halloween hits. This one is Bump
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: in the Night from All Stars. Oh, wow. I don't
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: know who the fuck All Stars is.
- 1:06:27Speaker 18: There's a chill in the air You hear a creak
- 1:06:32Speaker 18: on the stairs You got a knock on your door
- 1:06:39Speaker 18: Is there anybody out?
- 1:06:40Speaker 6: They're out to.
- 1:06:44Speaker 9: Get you, to.
- 1:06:45Speaker 11: Capture you and make.
- 1:06:47Speaker 5: You Swear about Howling and.
- 1:06:50Speaker 21: Prowling You're shivering, quivering Swear about Things cannot run And
- 1:06:55Speaker 21: you cannot hide Yeah, you gotta face it Baby, things
- 1:07:02Speaker 21: go bump in the night Wherever you run And wherever
- 1:07:06Speaker 21: you hide Yeah, you gotta face it Baby, things go bump, bump,
- 1:07:13Speaker 21: bump in the night Tell me who's.
- 1:07:18Speaker 8: Freaking who It's very Scooby-Doo.
- 1:07:22Speaker 18: You hear a shriek in the house You know it's
- 1:07:28Speaker 18: freaking me out They're out to get you To.
- 1:07:37Speaker 8: Capture you and make you Bye. Bye. Bye. They go bomb.
- 1:08:16Speaker 7: They go bomb, they go bomb, they go They go.
- 1:08:19Speaker 18: Bomb, they go, they go bomb, they.
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: Go You cannot run, and you cannot hide Yeah, you've got.
- 1:08:26Speaker 8: To face it, baby, this go bomb, bomb, bomb in
- 1:08:30Speaker 8: the night Yeah, you gotta face it, baby Things go bump, bump,
- 1:08:37Speaker 8: bump in the night You.
- 1:08:39Speaker 6: Know wherever you run And wherever you hide.
- 1:08:42Speaker 8: Yeah, you gotta face it, baby Things.
- 1:08:44Speaker 6: Go bump, bump, bump in the night You can't run,
- 1:08:48Speaker 6: you can't hide Yeah, you gotta face.
- 1:08:51Speaker 8: It, baby Things go bump, bump, bump.
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: In the night You know wherever you run And wherever
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: you hide Yeah, you gotta face.
- 1:08:59Speaker 8: It, baby.
- 1:09:10Speaker 15: Like, what was that?
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: That's also why you get soundtracks. You find new bands
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: that you never knew existed, or maybe never existed again.
- 1:09:17Speaker 13: Right.
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: There's a formula to it.
- 1:09:20Speaker 8: A very simple formula.
- 1:09:22Speaker 11: Everybody's a suspect.
- 1:09:23Speaker 8: All right.
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: So we've already referenced them many, many times. Are we
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: ready to just dive into the Scream run? We're going
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: to do all the movies. Come on. Just all those soundtracks.
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: I thought as I get into it, I've had the
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: first Scream soundtrack from the beginning.
- 1:09:40Speaker 10: Oh, man.
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: I wore that out. That was one of those CDs
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: I played to the point that it couldn't play anymore.
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: The disc just skipped so much that I was like,
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: I had to buy the soundtrack a second time. And
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: you should. It's a great soundtrack. We've already... That CD
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: introduced me to Nick Cave. I will forever love Scream
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: for introducing me to Nick Cave alone. We've already worked
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: in at least... I've already played on the horror covers.
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: I already did Don't Fear the Reaper. Again, big surprise.
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: There's a version of Schools out on here. But yeah,
- 1:10:08Speaker 4: we've worked in a few. But this one, I was like,
- 1:10:10Speaker 4: the one that... Again, being a geek who played this
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: soundtrack all the time, driving around in my car, playing Scream.
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: Just when Youth of America kicks on, first song out
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: of the gate. And I'm just like, that's so perfect
- 1:10:24Speaker 4: for this franchise. For that very self-aware, making fun of
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: teenagers movie that's going to be offing them in a minute.
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: Because it comes on very early in the movie. And
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: I'm just like... It's so perfect. God bless the youth
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: of America because they're stupid and they're about to die.
- 1:11:07Speaker 10: God bless our youth America And I can't.
- 1:11:10Speaker 8: Stand this anymore All the dead kids lying on.
- 1:11:17Speaker 6: Your door.
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: Got a carrot on a stick in front of you.
- 1:11:54Speaker 8: Take it back from my older cast.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: You know they can't even use it now.
- 1:12:05Speaker 8: And it was yours in the first place anyway. You've
- 1:12:23Speaker 8: been wasting.
- 1:13:39Speaker 22: We all go a little mad sometimes.
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: So as I got it, I was like, well, obviously
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: I've got that one. In the last couple of months,
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: I came across Scream 2. So I'm like, well, if
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: we're going to get rolling, let's just knock it out
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: and go ahead and do like one per movie.
- 1:13:54Speaker 14: Didn't every movie do some weird remix on the Nick
- 1:13:58Speaker 14: Cave song?
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: Like Red Right Hand has like a version for every movie, right?
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: It's not. Because it's different. I think they remix it
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: and do it different in other movies. We'll get to
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: that one. It is on this first soundtrack. But that's
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: just a straight up version, I believe, on the first one.
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: On this one, Scream 2, which is funny because it's
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: also on this one. Usually they wouldn't repeat the same song.
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: You might use it in the movie because it does
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: become the theme of the series almost. Almost, which I
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: promise you that too. But that melody is just so catchy.
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: And just for me, even as watching the movie... That
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: melody was so hauntingly that it stood out to where
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: I was like, what? Honestly, I didn't know that that
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: was a song on its own at first. When it
- 1:14:37Speaker 4: first kicks on, I just think this is the score.
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: And then it starts to invoke. I'm like, whoa, it's
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: a song? I thought this was just kind of the
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: creepy melody for the movie. Yes and yes. It works
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: on both counts. So yeah, this one is just, once again,
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: the regular one on screen two. So with this, we're
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: going to go, again, these are a little more generic.
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: This becomes, okay, we're moving into a slightly different era.
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: We've got to start working in some hip hop.
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: And again, they got made fun of, I think, in
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: that first one, because it is a whole bunch of
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: white kids in that first movie.
- 1:15:06Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: Where this, they tried to like, let's get some Jada
- 1:15:09Speaker 4: Pinkett Smith in there. She might have just been Pinkett
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: at that point. Was this back when she was singing?
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: Do what? Is this back when she was doing music? No,
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: she's our intro girl, though. She's the Drew, if I remember.
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: It's been a while since I've seen two.
- 1:15:21Speaker 14: Two and three I only saw once in theaters. I
- 1:15:23Speaker 14: honestly never watched them again after.
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: I still stand by them. I still think... You still
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: think they're good? Minus the endings. Which, again, the endings
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: have to be... Again, it's Scooby-Doo. Basically, it's a whodunit
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: more than any slasher ever was. I never thought of
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: it like that. It is kind of like an R-rated Scooby-Doo,
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: isn't it?
- 1:15:39Speaker 17: It is.
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: I mean, the whole time, it's a guy and an
- 1:15:41Speaker 4: ass running around. It's kind of pushing up the horror aspect.
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: Kids trying to figure out the mystery. Yeah, and the
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: cops don't believe them and won't help them.
- 1:15:47Speaker 6: Interesting.
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: I never thought of it that way. Things stealing from Scooby-Doo.
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: You're ripping a mask off someone. Oh, my God. Who
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: would have known, damn you, Matthew Litter. You son of
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: a bitch. I would have gotten away. Anyway, so I
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: was like, I still stand by those phrases. two and
- 1:16:07Speaker 4: three as solid movies even three which again you lose
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: williamson if i remember correctly we because one and two
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: are the same writer same director like it's the same
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: group and i still feel like that ending just got
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: tacked i think both times they're like oh shit we
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: have to end this thing now yeah especially two because
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: two is solid but.
- 1:16:25Speaker 14: They always felt rushed and i remember as a kid
- 1:16:27Speaker 14: i'm i just i have problems with like over evaluating
- 1:16:30Speaker 14: things i watch like if something got any mystery factor.
- 1:16:34Speaker 14: My brain is just trying to figure everything out from go.
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: See, I go the other way. I think I like
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: just going along for the ride. I think I'm just like,
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: you know, let's just see where this goes.
- 1:16:43Speaker 14: I think with... I remember griping at the time. you know,
- 1:16:46Speaker 14: about the endings in two and three, because I was like,
- 1:16:47Speaker 14: you know, being upset that they were so unpredictable. Because
- 1:16:49Speaker 14: with the first one, you can look at part one,
- 1:16:52Speaker 14: and you can see who did it in part one.
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: If you pay attention, you're like, oh my gosh, yeah,
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: it was those two. It makes sense. Two and three,
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: it doesn't. Well, and there's real motivation. Right, right. Where two...
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: I mean, one of them is a... Doesn't the motivation
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: come at the end? It's like, I'm secretly your sister.
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: It's something weird. That's three. Two is like, they draw
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: a thread all the way back to the first movie,
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: but you never knew anything about it until the reveal
- 1:17:17Speaker 4: 10 minutes from the end of this one.
- 1:17:19Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: And I'm like, but... Well, then we had nothing to
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: go on. Why would we know? There is no figuring
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: it out because this is all bullshit that you slapped
- 1:17:26Speaker 4: on at the end. And then the other... Again, to
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: mimic the first one, the other character that comes into play...
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: is fucking nobody. I mean, actually, the star, Timothy Oliphant,
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: back when nobody knew who the fuck he was, as
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: a kid, but the character is so minimally in the movie,
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: let alone not important. It's hard to believe that they're...
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: That's kind of why the first one is so amazing, because...
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: It hit him in plain sight. And it even did
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: a thing where it kind of put him out in front, like, oh,
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: it's obviously this guy, but then as the movie goes on,
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: you go, oh, well, it can't be him. That'd be
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: too obvious. Yeah, they wouldn't make it him. They said
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: it's him the whole movie. But then it's also like,
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: those are real characters. Like, we spend the entire movie
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: with those two, and we're like, okay, so this is,
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: you know, this is a big thing when you reveal, oh,
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: by the way, they've been killing people the whole movie.
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: He's trying to kill his girlfriend. You know, they killed,
- 1:18:17Speaker 4: you know, this, it's such a big reveal. Where by
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: the second one, you're just like, well, I don't know
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: any of these. Like, why do I give a rat's ass?
- 1:18:25Speaker 4: Like everyone would introduce new people and it was like, what?
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: You pulled these two minor characters out of obscurity in
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: the script and just decided to make them the big reveal.
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: And I'm like, it's not a reveal that if you
- 1:18:36Speaker 4: don't care, like it's not a big deal. So yeah,
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: that's two. And three. Three is where they're making a
- 1:18:42Speaker 4: movie about it. Yeah, which again, I think, to one
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: up the self-referential, the levels of stab making fun of Scream,
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: I love a lot of the stuff that gets built up.
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: We're still talking Wes though, right? Isn't it ironic that
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: he turned around and did that with Freddy Krueger later, right?
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: It wasn't one of his future Freddy Kruegers was about them.
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: I thought it was that after Final or New Nightmare.
- 1:19:05Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure. So New Nightmare came before Scream?
- 1:19:09Speaker 14: I thought that was the other round, but I honestly
- 1:19:11Speaker 14: can't say for a fact, but I thought Scream was first,
- 1:19:15Speaker 14: and then he tried to do something new with Freddy.
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: I think New Nightmare was definitely before Scream 3. I
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: wonder if they both came from the same concept then.
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: I wonder if maybe he was working with the thing about, oh,
- 1:19:27Speaker 4: we know of this horror thing, but they're doing a
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: movie about it, and shit that's real ends up still happening.
- 1:19:34Speaker 15: Here's some information about Wes Craven's New Nightmare.
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: 1994, New Nightmare. That's about the same. So that's like
- 1:19:42Speaker 4: two years before? Yeah, that's really close. It's like 96
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: on screen. So, again, self-aware. He had to have been
- 1:19:49Speaker 4: drawn from the same concepts then. Again, it is kind
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: of that same sort of self-aware, but it's not like... Oh,
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: it's hyper-aware. The movie is... Well, I mean, the movie... Oh, yeah,
- 1:19:59Speaker 4: Freddy Krueger movies exist. Existed in the New Nightmare world. Yeah,
- 1:20:02Speaker 4: it's been a long time since I've seen New Nightmare, but...
- 1:20:05Speaker 4: yeah it's like it is kind of that same little
- 1:20:07Speaker 4: area that obviously he's pretty interested in but to me
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: like it's just sort of regular world like they were
- 1:20:13Speaker 4: already kind of taking in interesting steps being like horror
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: fans and talking about it and being self-referential in that
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: way but when it becomes a movie about a movie
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: that you're watching the movie like it's so late and
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: like i love like them on the set of the
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: first movie like you're watching them like try to run
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: around the house but then it stops because it's propped
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: you know it's all just a big set so it's
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: like hosie's crazy ass in that third movie i think
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: that's what saved that for me like for me she
- 1:20:41Speaker 4: was what made me happy in that movie it's fucking
- 1:20:43Speaker 4: hilarious she is insane maybe in the real world i
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: don't know parker give us a call you can come
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: on the show but yeah i love her in pretty
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: much everything but she is have you seen mascots yet
- 1:20:54Speaker 4: That just dropped. Mascots?
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: No.
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: That's the people that do Spinal Tap, Best in Show,
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: and all that. It just went live on Netflix yesterday.
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: I saw the airport this morning. She's crazy in that too.
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: She's so much fun. She's so good at being crazy.
- 1:21:08Speaker 4: That's why I assume maybe she's a little bit crazy.
- 1:21:10Speaker 4: Mighty Wind, she cracks me up in Mighty Wind. She
- 1:21:15Speaker 4: is so beyond. I just love her in improv movies.
- 1:21:19Speaker 4: I love her in anything pretty much. She's so insane.
- 1:21:24Speaker 8: Oh.
- 1:21:25Speaker 4: So.
- 1:21:27Speaker 14: Kind of reminds me of Westworld in a bit. Not to, like,
- 1:21:29Speaker 14: deviate too much, but, you know, Crichton wrote Westworld just
- 1:21:34Speaker 14: before Jurassic Park, and it both kind of had that
- 1:21:36Speaker 14: same aspect.
- 1:21:36Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:21:37Speaker 14: People go into a park to relive some weird other era.
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: Robots, but basically it's the same thing.
- 1:21:42Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: Interesting. So, yeah, this one was just, like, there's some
- 1:21:48Speaker 4: rap thrown in at the beginning here. We got some masterpiece. Yeah,
- 1:21:51Speaker 4: I was going to say, I thought that was the...
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: era like i think that's the song that's on there
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: right and uh there's a couple more odd choices so
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: since this one we have to just sort of pick
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: something i'm gonna go with the one that i like
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: the song best and he's a friend of the show
- 1:22:08Speaker 4: so we're gonna go with uh again this is also
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: how horror movies usually work uh you're in the right
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: place at the wrong.
- 1:22:15Speaker 6: Time everybody dies But us, we're going to carry on
- 1:22:19Speaker 6: and plan the sequel.
- 1:22:21Speaker 8: Because let's face it, baby, these days, you've got.
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: To have a sequel. This is Right Place, Wrong Time
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: by John Spencer Blues Explosion.
- 1:23:03Speaker 8: I was in the right place, but I must have
- 1:23:05Speaker 8: been the wrong time. I was in the right scene,
- 1:23:09Speaker 8: but I must have used the wrong line. I was
- 1:23:12Speaker 8: in the right trip, but I must have used the
- 1:23:15Speaker 8: wrong call.
- 1:23:15Speaker 6: Even if it's in a bad place, you don't wonder
- 1:23:19Speaker 6: what it's here for.
- 1:23:20Speaker 8: I was in the right place, but I must have
- 1:23:23Speaker 8: been the wrong time.
- 1:23:24Speaker 6: Man who was in a bad place, but I'm having
- 1:23:26Speaker 6: such a good time.
- 1:23:30Speaker 8: I've been running and trying to catch up in my mind.
- 1:23:35Speaker 8: I got to give myself a good time this time.
- 1:23:39Speaker 6: Just need a little brain silence to the way.
- 1:23:49Speaker 8: But it wasn't the right time. I was in the
- 1:23:53Speaker 8: right place. But it wasn't the wrong song. I was
- 1:23:57Speaker 8: in the right thing. But it seemed like the wrong line.
- 1:24:01Speaker 8: I was in the right world.
- 1:24:03Speaker 11: But it seemed like the wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
- 1:24:38Speaker 5: Slippin' down, shakin' deep and high now down the street.
- 1:24:44Speaker 9: See my heart shakin' with the air of who I'm me.
- 1:24:48Speaker 8: Refined confusion as I made it so clear.
- 1:24:52Speaker 10: What a way to wake up and go, get all.
- 1:24:54Speaker 8: Out of here. I was in the right place, but
- 1:24:57Speaker 8: it must have been the wrong time. I was in
- 1:25:00Speaker 8: the right sitting, but I must have used the wrong line.
- 1:25:03Speaker 5: I was in the.
- 1:25:05Speaker 8: Right road, but I must have took a wrong turn.
- 1:25:07Speaker 21: I took the right move, babe, but I did it
- 1:25:10Speaker 21: at the wrong time.
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: I was in the right trip, but I must have
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: used the wrong call.
- 1:25:15Speaker 8: I was in a bad place, and I wonder what
- 1:25:19Speaker 8: it's good for. That's right!
- 1:25:20Speaker 9: That's right!
- 1:25:27Speaker 20: This is John Spencer and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:26:02Speaker 14: Man, after the first soundtrack, you could tell there was
- 1:26:04Speaker 14: a lot of producers like, hey, we need a little
- 1:26:05Speaker 14: bit of this in there. We need a little bit
- 1:26:07Speaker 14: of that in there.
- 1:26:07Speaker 8: Definitely.
- 1:26:09Speaker 4: That one's a lot of that weird stuff. It kind
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: of gets all over the place.
- 1:26:12Speaker 14: The first one at least felt like there was the
- 1:26:14Speaker 14: same mental stream being followed with the music. The other
- 1:26:19Speaker 14: soundtracks kind of felt like, hey, let's cover all bases,
- 1:26:23Speaker 14: all genres, all ethnicities, you know, be as PC as
- 1:26:26Speaker 14: we can with this soundtrack.
- 1:26:27Speaker 4: And it's like, Is it about the movie or is
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: it about selling CDs? I mean, again, sometimes that works
- 1:26:32Speaker 4: if it works within the context of the movie. And
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: then other times it just feels like the post-production part
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: of it. They're just like, and now slap some of
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: this in there. So it depends on, yeah, if it's
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: actually an important part of the film when they make
- 1:26:46Speaker 4: the choices for the soundtrack. Because I'm always more impressed
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: when they had the songs picked out. well before. There
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: are some filmmakers that are playing them on set while
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: they're shooting. If I was an actor, I think that
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: would completely help. That full immersion, even audio immersion, would really,
- 1:27:02Speaker 4: really help. To me, that makes a big difference.
- 1:27:05Speaker 14: I remember Rob Zombie practically campaigning against the Scream movies.
- 1:27:10Speaker 4: He was so angry at the Scream movies. Everyone that
- 1:27:15Speaker 4: came out, he was just going, he's big. Even on stage,
- 1:27:17Speaker 4: at the time, You know, like he was a big
- 1:27:20Speaker 4: deal in his solo career. And I saw him like
- 1:27:21Speaker 4: two or three times in the 90s on stage. And
- 1:27:24Speaker 4: he would talk about it like on stage, you know, about.
- 1:27:26Speaker 14: All these bullshit McDonald's horror movies that are trying to
- 1:27:29Speaker 14: sell you tacos.
- 1:27:30Speaker 4: And just like he'd go about the commercialization of horror movies.
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: That's funny as the man who remade Halloween.
- 1:27:36Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: Cut to 10 years later. Not near as good if
- 1:27:38Speaker 4: you ask me. Exactly. My opinion is the original John
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: Carpenter Halloween is a masterpiece that cannot be touched as
- 1:27:47Speaker 4: horror movies go.
- 1:27:48Speaker 14: I realized earlier this week, again, not trying to tree branch,
- 1:27:51Speaker 14: I was thinking about it, and I don't think I've
- 1:27:55Speaker 14: watched any remake.
- 1:27:58Speaker 4: Of anything.
- 1:27:59Speaker 14: I have not seen it. I didn't watch the new Halloween.
- 1:28:02Speaker 14: I didn't watch that remake of Friday the 13th.
- 1:28:05Speaker 4: Of just the recent wave or ever in life? Like
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: in the last 10, 15 years. Like all the horror ones,
- 1:28:09Speaker 4: like the Freddy Krueger one, Halloween, Friday the 13th. Only
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: a few times. I didn't see Total Recall. I didn't
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: see Robocop. Yeah, I've seen all of them. If you
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: count Judge Dredd, I saw the new Judge Dredd, but yeah,
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: it was great. But it's still, it's a remake of
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: a different movie. Right, it's a different, right. We talked
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: about that movie.
- 1:28:24Speaker 14: But it was weird, I was thinking about it, I
- 1:28:25Speaker 14: was like, you know, I was like, man, who wants
- 1:28:27Speaker 14: to see these remakes?
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: And I was like, is it just me? Like, I
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: don't think I've went and saw, even like renting or
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: downloading or anything later, I literally have not watched a remake. Like,
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: in my head, I'm just like, I don't want to
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: see your new version.
- 1:28:39Speaker 20: Eh.
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: I've said it before on this. I don't care. If
- 1:28:41Speaker 4: you do something interesting with it, if you do something
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: different with it. I'm okay with it. Do your own thing.
- 1:28:48Speaker 4: Just don't do a straight up rip-off version. That's why
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: I have so many problems. Oh, that's why I was
- 1:28:52Speaker 4: thinking of it. Sorry, I just watched the new Ghostbusters.
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: Because I think that was the first time I was like, oh,
- 1:28:56Speaker 4: I just watched a reboot for the first time, didn't I?
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: We'll get back to that later. But no, and that's
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: why I was ready to give Rob Zombie so much shit.
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: Because I'm like, that's my main problem with that, especially
- 1:29:09Speaker 4: that first one. Is like, you're just retreading things we've
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: already seen. Doing it in a way that I don't
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: agree with because I don't understand. You're just making him
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: a white trash hillbilly because that's everything you like.
- 1:29:21Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: That's your own personal thing that you're cramming into this
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: mythology that has existed well before your thing got big.
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: So it's like, that's weird and seems very self-satisfying and self-gratifying.
- 1:29:35Speaker 4: Anything to show Sherry Moon's ass, you know. Well, any excuse.
- 1:29:39Speaker 4: And to make her sort of an angel?
- 1:29:40Speaker 13: I don't know.
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: But, uh... I need a horse! like a horse in
- 1:29:45Speaker 4: the background of something yeah I don't know I mean
- 1:29:48Speaker 4: 2 is at least it's own like it kind of
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: stands on it's own as it's own horror movie I
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: still don't think it's a good Michael Myers movie but
- 1:29:55Speaker 4: I don't mind it as a slasher if you called
- 1:29:57Speaker 4: that guy something else but like it's more entertaining like
- 1:30:01Speaker 4: the first one just hits all the beats of the
- 1:30:03Speaker 4: one we've already seen after cramming a weird backstory in
- 1:30:05Speaker 4: that we don't need so.
- 1:30:06Speaker 14: I don't know I have issues I don't really care
- 1:30:09Speaker 14: not that my opinion matters but I don't really care
- 1:30:11Speaker 14: for his movies in general House of a Thousand Corpses
- 1:30:14Speaker 14: feels fun in a comic book-y kind of way.
- 1:30:15Speaker 4: Just silly, mindless. That one is such a rip-off. But
- 1:30:20Speaker 4: it seems like he's having fun with it. That's what
- 1:30:23Speaker 4: I think is the difference. I think everybody involved in
- 1:30:27Speaker 4: that feels like they're having fun, so I'm having fun
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: watching it. And I don't get that from Devil's Rejects.
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: And I know that some people really like Devil's Rejects more.
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: I think Misty and Jake both like that one more.
- 1:30:37Speaker 4: And I'm just like, it's not fun. At that point, like,
- 1:30:41Speaker 4: But all of those characters that were kind of funny
- 1:30:44Speaker 4: in the first one are just disturbingly mean. Right. The
- 1:30:50Speaker 4: whole movie is so mean-spirited. Like, it takes that left
- 1:30:53Speaker 4: turn into, like, well, now we want to be gritty 70s. So, like, well,
- 1:30:56Speaker 4: now what was funny 80s movie the first time around
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: becomes gritty 70s movie that now is, like, just. gross
- 1:31:06Speaker 4: it's just like dirty and gross and like everybody in
- 1:31:09Speaker 4: it is a jackass that I don't want to be watching.
- 1:31:12Speaker 14: It felt it felt contradictory to his whole I don't
- 1:31:14Speaker 14: want to be mean to say gimmick but his whole
- 1:31:16Speaker 14: thing of being like you know even as a musician
- 1:31:18Speaker 14: like I'm the whole retro horror thing that was his
- 1:31:20Speaker 14: whole thing and I feel like the people that I
- 1:31:24Speaker 14: know I wouldn't say I'm a hardcore horror kid but
- 1:31:26Speaker 14: I definitely like horror and I definitely have a lot
- 1:31:28Speaker 14: of friends that are really into horror none of them
- 1:31:30Speaker 14: strike me as psychopaths They're all people that enjoy scary movies,
- 1:31:35Speaker 14: but they're not mean people that ever think want to
- 1:31:37Speaker 14: hurt anybody. There's a tongue-in-cheekness to horror movies that's accepted.
- 1:31:44Speaker 14: And I don't think Rob Zombie... I think he lost
- 1:31:47Speaker 14: that in his movies. It's like he wanted them to
- 1:31:49Speaker 14: be so revolting and disgusting and real. It's like, okay,
- 1:31:53Speaker 14: now you've crossed into another thing now. It doesn't feel
- 1:31:56Speaker 14: like a horror movie.
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: It feels like... torture porn in a way and I
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: feel like he wanted to be taken seriously all of
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: a sudden like in the beginning it was just like
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: hey I'm making this horror movie for fun because I'm
- 1:32:05Speaker 4: a rock star but I kind of want to make
- 1:32:06Speaker 4: movies too and like okay like it's like he wasn't
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: taking it that seriously he was still having fun And
- 1:32:11Speaker 4: then it became this, I want to be an artist
- 1:32:14Speaker 4: kind of a feeling.
- 1:32:15Speaker 14: He wanted to be the one who remade the crow
- 1:32:17Speaker 14: and it was going to be a satanic preacher. And
- 1:32:18Speaker 14: then he like, he wanted to do all this stuff
- 1:32:21Speaker 14: back then in the nineties. Like, and every time I
- 1:32:23Speaker 14: would hear the idea, I'm like, no, please don't.
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: What are you talking about? When I heard them giving Halloween,
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: I'm just like, but no, you don't. And again, I
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: don't even think, I don't think any, I don't want
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: to give anything like it's such hallowed ground that nobody
- 1:32:35Speaker 4: can touch it. There's plenty of great things that have
- 1:32:38Speaker 4: been remade and they've, As long as you do your
- 1:32:41Speaker 4: own thing with it, it's cool. But if you're not
- 1:32:44Speaker 4: going to put that much work into it, if you're
- 1:32:46Speaker 4: just going to do a retread of something we've already seen,
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: it's a waste. He has something else about to come out,
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: doesn't he? I think he's still... It just came out,
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: I think. Yeah, the whole cast was at Scarefest. It's
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: out there. Yeah, I've tuned him out for so long now. So, Scream.
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: Back in the middle of our Scream rundown here. um
- 1:33:11Speaker 4: so back to what you were saying earlier the yeah
- 1:33:14Speaker 4: they they red right hand is amazing it's in the
- 1:33:17Speaker 4: first movie it takes over the first movie you're just
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: like oh my god what is that song it's awesome
- 1:33:21Speaker 4: they work it in again in the second one so
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: obviously it's part of this series by the third one
- 1:33:27Speaker 4: It gets a weird remix. By the third one, Nick
- 1:33:29Speaker 4: Cave goes, okay, I'm going to write you a new...
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: They actually list it as sort of a sequel. It's
- 1:33:34Speaker 4: like he writes another version of Red Right Hand. Left
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: Red Hand? Yeah, Left Blue Hand. Red Left Hand. Yeah,
- 1:33:44Speaker 4: so it's... I thought it was interesting because I remember
- 1:33:48Speaker 4: sitting there that third one going... wait this is different
- 1:33:51Speaker 4: yeah so in a way it's like that's that's the
- 1:33:53Speaker 4: one i wanted to work into this scenario it's like
- 1:33:55Speaker 4: we were all pretty familiar with you know red right
- 1:33:58Speaker 4: hand at this point i have it on his albums
- 1:34:01Speaker 4: i have it on these albums like i have five
- 1:34:03Speaker 4: copies of.
- 1:34:03Speaker 14: Somebody in my current playlist and stuff like yeah it's
- 1:34:06Speaker 14: on just it's one of those ones it doesn't age
- 1:34:08Speaker 14: for me.
- 1:34:09Speaker 4: But like this is different like it's the one-off time
- 1:34:13Speaker 4: that you're gonna be like wait what are these lyrics
- 1:34:15Speaker 4: and obviously knew he was working for screen because he
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: works it in there so like you'll get a little.
- 1:34:20Speaker 14: Extra cameo he wasn't like in any of them was
- 1:34:22Speaker 14: he like it would.
- 1:34:23Speaker 4: Have been great to walk by in the background at
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: some point just audio form so this is the alternate
- 1:34:29Speaker 4: version the second version the sequel version from nick cave
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: and the bad seeds this is red right hand part two.
- 1:34:55Speaker 5: Take a little walk to the edge of town, now
- 1:34:59Speaker 5: spread your wings and fly.
- 1:35:01Speaker 11: Don't the lights of the city look so damn pretty when.
- 1:35:07Speaker 8: You're flying so high?
- 1:35:11Speaker 11: It's hard to know that down below the streets.
- 1:35:16Speaker 8: Baby, swimming deep in blood, it's enough to.
- 1:35:22Speaker 2: Make me groan and cry.
- 1:35:27Speaker 11: You really want to know what's wrong with this little
- 1:35:31Speaker 11: industry scratching your head with your red right hand. You see,
- 1:35:44Speaker 11: everyone's a liar, baby, that's the truth. I said everyone's
- 1:35:55Speaker 11: a liar, baby, and I got proof.
- 1:36:01Speaker 8: You got a new boy, you feel.
- 1:36:03Speaker 11: You're in with a chance.
- 1:36:06Speaker 8: You think you're in his arms, but you're in his hands.
- 1:36:10Speaker 8: Still he seems so cute and true, groovy.
- 1:36:17Speaker 11: But to get that boy up on the stand and
- 1:36:21Speaker 11: to watch him raise his red right hand.
- 1:36:33Speaker 13: Yeah, move your hips, babe Or move your mind.
- 1:36:41Speaker 8: I use your lips, babe.
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: To conceal his cry He's a trace in a tiny
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: finger Down your spine He's leaving behind.
- 1:36:57Speaker 6: A thin red line You're gonna get so sick when.
- 1:37:02Speaker 8: It all comes down so heavy. A low-end monsie.
- 1:37:09Speaker 11: Crosses land as he rips your chest with his red
- 1:37:14Speaker 11: right hand.
- 1:37:25Speaker 9: Thank you.
- 1:37:50Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 1:37:50Speaker 8: Thank you.
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: I'm talking about.
- 1:38:30Speaker 8: blood, babe. It's in your veins.
- 1:38:34Speaker 6: Your mommy and daddy, they've got the same. You're under
- 1:38:47Speaker 6: the mirror day.
- 1:38:50Speaker 11: After day You'll see a pretty face crumbling away As
- 1:38:56Speaker 11: you become your mom and daddy Scream once, scream twice,
- 1:39:05Speaker 11: now scream again Cover that face with a big bright hand.
- 1:39:19Speaker 8: Thank you.
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: Bye.
- 1:40:03Speaker 8: Thank you.
- 1:40:35Speaker 3: If you find yourself dealing with an unexpected backstory and
- 1:40:37Speaker 3: a preponderance of exposition, then the sequel rules do not apply.
- 1:40:41Speaker 3: Because you are not dealing with a sequel. You are
- 1:40:44Speaker 3: dealing with the concluding chapter of a.
- 1:40:47Speaker 6: Trilogy.
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: That's right. It's a rarity in the horror field, but
- 1:40:51Speaker 3: it does exist. And it is a force to be
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: reckoned with because true trilogies are all about going back
- 1:40:56Speaker 3: to the beginning and discovering something that wasn't true from
- 1:40:59Speaker 3: the get-go. Godfather, Jedi, all revealed something that we thought
- 1:41:03Speaker 3: was true.
- 1:41:04Speaker 6: That wasn't true.
- 1:41:04Speaker 14: Did you see where someone, I don't know if it
- 1:41:08Speaker 14: is on Etsy. I don't know if it was just
- 1:41:11Speaker 14: like maybe a Kickstarter thing. Someone took the lyrics to
- 1:41:15Speaker 14: Red Right Hand and did Dr. Seuss illustrations and did
- 1:41:19Speaker 14: it like a Dr.
- 1:41:19Speaker 4: Seuss book. Google it. It looks amazing.
- 1:41:23Speaker 14: Cause it's like in my head, I started thinking, I
- 1:41:25Speaker 14: was like, I started like thinking of lyrics in my head.
- 1:41:27Speaker 14: I'm like, oh my God, that really does kind of work.
- 1:41:30Speaker 14: You could do an image for each of those lines.
- 1:41:31Speaker 14: And I like, I looked at the book online, all
- 1:41:34Speaker 14: the illustrations, like I want that book. It even has
- 1:41:36Speaker 14: a cover. It is legit. It looks just like a Dr.
- 1:41:40Speaker 4: Seuss book. It's not like they took images from Dr. Seuss.
- 1:41:43Speaker 4: Someone did new illustrations in Dr. Seuss style. It's the
- 1:41:47Speaker 4: red right hand. Every page is a lyric with an illustration.
- 1:41:51Speaker 4: It's amazing. I'd have that book.
- 1:41:53Speaker 14: All those illustrations are kind of creepy anyway. It was
- 1:41:56Speaker 14: such a perfect blend.
- 1:42:00Speaker 4: That'll lead us into this next movie, which is one
- 1:42:02Speaker 4: of the many issues that came up with Scream 4.
- 1:42:06Speaker 4: There is no Red Right Hand. There was a Part 4?
- 1:42:10Speaker 4: There's a Part 4. Wow, that's bad. I didn't even
- 1:42:12Speaker 4: know there was a Part 4. I guess I had
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: already checked out. I was like, wow. The fourth one
- 1:42:17Speaker 4: comes back around and they don't work in Red Right Hand.
- 1:42:20Speaker 4: And I'm like, okay, there's the problem right there. It's
- 1:42:24Speaker 4: got a lot of good stuff in it along the way.
- 1:42:26Speaker 4: I don't hate it.
- 1:42:26Speaker 14: It'd be like Halloween without that piano melody. Come on,
- 1:42:29Speaker 14: that's your theme at this point.
- 1:42:32Speaker 4: So, again, We did a whole episode on it. Don't
- 1:42:36Speaker 4: go back and listen to it. Scream 4? That sounds terrible.
- 1:42:39Speaker 4: But there's a lot of good in there. I still
- 1:42:43Speaker 4: think they went the wrong direction with the story. What
- 1:42:47Speaker 4: was the premise of 4? Was it still the same
- 1:42:49Speaker 4: kids or did they somehow deviate completely? That becomes the
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: problem is it keeps relying on what we've already seen
- 1:42:55Speaker 4: in the first three. How many times can you try
- 1:42:56Speaker 4: to kill Nev Campbell? That's what I'm saying. They bring
- 1:42:58Speaker 4: Nev back to town. It's back in the same town.
- 1:43:01Speaker 4: Dewey's still running the, you know, chair. Does he have
- 1:43:04Speaker 4: any limbs left at this point? Like, doesn't he break
- 1:43:07Speaker 4: a leg? And that is the funny thing. Every time
- 1:43:10Speaker 4: he just gets beat to hell. He's just like in
- 1:43:13Speaker 4: a wheelchair. Comes shuffling back into frame with his limpy
- 1:43:17Speaker 4: ass by the second movie. So, like, I think it is.
- 1:43:20Speaker 4: I think that part's actually pretty funny. That's the running
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: theme of these. Let's just beat the hell out of
- 1:43:24Speaker 4: David Arquette. But, like, it does work in the same
- 1:43:28Speaker 4: big main three characters. And we watch him and freaking
- 1:43:31Speaker 4: Courtney Cox again. And I'm like, that's cool. You can
- 1:43:35Speaker 4: work them in. But now's the time to start off
- 1:43:37Speaker 4: in these old characters and, like, move it to new.
- 1:43:39Speaker 4: When you've got Emma Roberts in it, you've got the
- 1:43:42Speaker 4: next wave. You've got the new generation in your movie.
- 1:43:45Speaker 4: I said it at the time. Pass the torch. Like,
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: she needs to be the star of this. We're not
- 1:43:50Speaker 4: talking about the TV show, are we?
- 1:43:52Speaker 11: No.
- 1:43:52Speaker 4: This is the movie. This is the movie for her?
- 1:43:54Speaker 4: And then they, again, now they, no, she's on Scream Queens.
- 1:43:57Speaker 4: She's on the other one. Oh, okay, okay. The other one.
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: That was like, okay. But no, that's what I'm saying, though.
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: It was like, obviously she can do this. Wes needed
- 1:44:06Speaker 4: to bank on that and just be like, this girl's
- 1:44:09Speaker 4: got talent, and I need to start making a whole
- 1:44:11Speaker 4: new series of movies based around her.
- 1:44:13Speaker 14: Because how easy isn't it just offhand to be like,
- 1:44:16Speaker 14: the twist is... If Campbell becomes the killer. Like, something
- 1:44:19Speaker 14: weird where that's what happens. It breaks her, and now
- 1:44:21Speaker 14: she's the murderer trying to.
- 1:44:22Speaker 4: Kill this other person. I came up with, like, two
- 1:44:24Speaker 4: or three better Indians than that. One major one that
- 1:44:26Speaker 4: I'm like, you could make a whole other trilogy at
- 1:44:29Speaker 4: least after. Like, I love the way I came up
- 1:44:31Speaker 4: with it. And then, like, even then, like, make, you know,
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: I think I said that at the time, too. I'm like, why? Like,
- 1:44:36Speaker 4: we pushed this girl over the edge. Like, at this point,
- 1:44:40Speaker 4: she should snap and start killing people. Even that would be,
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: but it just becomes super conventional stuff. cookie cutter like
- 1:44:47Speaker 4: the first three and like we've seen that damn it
- 1:44:50Speaker 4: wes i know you're gonna keel over before long but
- 1:44:52Speaker 4: stop doing that so now we don't get any more
- 1:44:55Speaker 4: wes screen movies but it's kind of an odd way
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: to end that series but oh well i guess we'll
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: see if somebody else tries to steal it and reboot
- 1:45:05Speaker 4: away the tv series but to me possibly the best
- 1:45:09Speaker 4: thing that came out of that movie and again i
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: i worked it into that episode i don't care i
- 1:45:12Speaker 4: want to play it again Mostly I want to hear it.
- 1:45:14Speaker 4: I have not heard it in a while. The song
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: Bad Karma is awesome. And like so fits that story
- 1:45:22Speaker 4: in the movie. And yeah, it's a great song. So
- 1:45:25Speaker 4: this is Ida Maria, who is Norwegian. And I feel
- 1:45:29Speaker 4: like this is another one I need to put on
- 1:45:30Speaker 4: my list and delve a little more into her discography. Because, yeah,
- 1:45:34Speaker 4: she's pretty damn interesting. But this is the Scream 4 version. Again,
- 1:45:39Speaker 4: I like when they make a special version. of bad karma.
- 1:45:42Speaker 8: Just one question. Do you think it's over, Sidney?
- 1:45:48Speaker 6: You better believe in karma.
- 1:45:58Speaker 8: Baby, it's gonna sting.
- 1:46:02Speaker 4: The wheel of life's gonna do you in, so I
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: don't really have to.
- 1:46:06Speaker 15: Do a thing.
- 1:46:07Speaker 8: You made me drink the cruel egg.
- 1:46:09Speaker 15: You drank my.
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: I'm the devil, but even he ain't taking you back.
- 1:46:38Speaker 4: We'll be right back.
- 1:47:01Speaker 8: You better believe and come on. Just look at the
- 1:47:04Speaker 8: sorry shape you're in. There's a doll with your name
- 1:47:08Speaker 8: and your gloomy face.
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: The department of doom with a rush on your case.
- 1:47:12Speaker 8: You better believe in voodoo, babe. I got a long
- 1:47:15Speaker 8: list of your sins.
- 1:47:17Speaker 23: There's a word you might have heard called payback.
- 1:47:20Speaker 8: And I'm running out of pins. You're a survivor, aren't you, Sidney?
- 1:47:58Speaker 8: You're one and only skill.
- 1:48:00Speaker 4: You survive.
- 1:48:01Speaker 3: I have one question for you. What good is it
- 1:48:04Speaker 3: to be a survivor in this little drama if everyone
- 1:48:07Speaker 3: close to you is dead?
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: All right, so you had at least one you wanted
- 1:48:10Speaker 4: to work in. We've done a lot of song songs.
- 1:48:14Speaker 4: This one is score-oriented, is it not? I don't know.
- 1:48:17Speaker 4: I mean, I guess in my head it's just.
- 1:48:20Speaker 14: I mean, everything we've talked about has been kind of
- 1:48:22Speaker 14: tongue-in-cheek and quirky and kind of, you know, not necessarily serious,
- 1:48:28Speaker 14: terrifying music, obviously.
- 1:48:30Speaker 4: Mine is a serious, gritty reboot of Scooby-Doo. I'm working
- 1:48:34Speaker 4: on that right now. Get Rob involved.
- 1:48:37Speaker 14: I'm going to Cast Sherry Moon's ass, and it's going
- 1:48:41Speaker 14: to be great. The music in Silent Hill, I think what...
- 1:48:47Speaker 14: It's really creepy stuff. I remember about the same time
- 1:48:52Speaker 14: I started playing Silent Hill, years before the movie. It's
- 1:48:55Speaker 14: all the same music, though. But it was about the
- 1:48:58Speaker 14: same time that Session 6 or 9... I always forget
- 1:49:00Speaker 14: the number. Session 9. I remember at the time, I
- 1:49:03Speaker 14: played the game and saw that movie at about the
- 1:49:05Speaker 14: same time.
- 1:49:06Speaker 4: It just felt... It just felt a little bit the same.
- 1:49:08Speaker 14: I was like, my God, like this music in that
- 1:49:10Speaker 14: movie would be like, so like, it's just, but it's
- 1:49:14Speaker 14: like in retrospect, I look back at Silent Hill and
- 1:49:16Speaker 14: I was like, this guy made scary music with a ukulele.
- 1:49:19Speaker 4: It's like, I go back.
- 1:49:20Speaker 14: And it's like, it's so creepy and scary and just unnerving.
- 1:49:24Speaker 14: And it's like, you know, just that main, that main
- 1:49:26Speaker 14: Silent Hill theme. It's just someone like jamming out on
- 1:49:29Speaker 14: a ukulele. And for some reason it's so creepy without
- 1:49:33Speaker 14: being cliche creepy. And I remember I used to kind
- 1:49:36Speaker 14: of question at a time, you know, when I'm playing
- 1:49:37Speaker 14: a game, I'm like, this isn't traditional scary music, but.
- 1:49:40Speaker 4: It really bugs me. Like it really bugs me. And
- 1:52:27Speaker 4: ukuleles are badass.
- 1:52:30Speaker 14: I would kind of like to see it like played live,
- 1:52:31Speaker 14: like some dude jamming on his little ukulele and like
- 1:52:34Speaker 14: some big like horror theme stage.
- 1:52:36Speaker 4: After I watched Rock That Uke, I was just like,
- 1:52:38Speaker 4: all right, I am sold and I got myself a
- 1:52:41Speaker 4: ukulele and I still can't play it. Thank you very much.
- 1:52:45Speaker 4: It is a good documentary, by the way. Punk rock ukulele.
- 1:52:50Speaker 4: It's badass. They electrified their ukuleles.
- 1:52:53Speaker 10: Really?
- 1:52:53Speaker 4: I'm kind of curious on what that sounds like. It
- 1:52:55Speaker 4: actually sounds like it might be a little badass to
- 1:52:57Speaker 4: have an electric aspect to a ukulele. I'm not sure
- 1:53:00Speaker 4: if it's online. At one point it was. It almost
- 1:53:03Speaker 4: seemed like that'd be like thrash metal.
- 1:53:05Speaker 14: Kind of stuff, just like hammering on an electric ukulele.
- 1:53:08Speaker 4: It just kind of talks to people who play ukuleles.
- 1:53:12Speaker 4: Half of them are punk rock people that have turned
- 1:53:14Speaker 4: it into a punk rock thing and then other of
- 1:53:16Speaker 4: them are like weird people that are just like this
- 1:53:20Speaker 4: is my thing stuff like you know um what was
- 1:53:22Speaker 4: it uh the fragile yeah nine inch and that there
- 1:53:25Speaker 4: was a lot of ukulele in there i remember at
- 1:53:27Speaker 4: the time i mean like this is and i saw
- 1:53:29Speaker 4: him live and they would come and play the ukulele
- 1:53:30Speaker 4: i was saying like this dude is playing a ukulele
- 1:53:33Speaker 4: right now like what is life i knew somebody years
- 1:53:35Speaker 4: ago that i worked with that again she wasn't like
- 1:53:39Speaker 4: she was a fence she was a middle-aged woman she
- 1:53:44Speaker 4: like just had a regular job and then at some
- 1:53:47Speaker 4: point decided to start taking ukulele lessons and then ended
- 1:53:51Speaker 4: up like she was like really good at it to
- 1:53:54Speaker 4: the point where like the instructor brought her into there
- 1:53:56Speaker 4: was like a sort of like a ukulele orchestra where
- 1:54:00Speaker 4: like everybody got together and played and then she got
- 1:54:03Speaker 4: to play lead on a lot of stuff because she
- 1:54:05Speaker 4: was that good and i'm just like I need to
- 1:54:08Speaker 4: see this. I wonder if it's more user friendly. Cause
- 1:54:11Speaker 4: I mean, I took guitar lessons for three months when
- 1:54:13Speaker 4: I was in high school and my fingertips felt like
- 1:54:15Speaker 4: they were going to bleed. Like it was so physically painful.
- 1:54:18Speaker 4: As much as I love music. To get that dexterity.
- 1:54:21Speaker 4: Especially the instrument part of it. Like writing songs is
- 1:54:25Speaker 4: interesting to me. I'm like, I'm, I'm, I'm down for
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: that kind of stuff. But anytime I've tried to play things,
- 1:54:30Speaker 4: My system does not work with it. I have a guitar.
- 1:54:33Speaker 4: I have a keyboard. I've played drums. I have all
- 1:54:37Speaker 4: these instruments. I mean, a rock band. Nope. My system
- 1:54:42Speaker 4: just goes, no, it ain't going to happen, dude. So
- 1:54:45Speaker 4: I just have to write a song and give it
- 1:54:47Speaker 4: to somebody else, I guess. And that doesn't happen either
- 1:54:50Speaker 4: because I'm busy editing shows. I've got music.
- 1:54:55Speaker 8: Well, me, I just don't happen to believe in ghosts.
- 1:54:59Speaker 4: Particularly all right so to round things out here um
- 1:55:04Speaker 4: you as i said we get back to it um
- 1:55:08Speaker 4: you know you pick up any bad halloween party jam
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: cd and you're gonna find a copy of the ghostbusters
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: song right and i'm like well i'm not gonna just
- 1:55:18Speaker 4: work that in that's pretty generic but then this year
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: is the year we had a new ghostbusters I'm scared.
- 1:55:25Speaker 4: I busted out the new Ghostbusters soundtrack here.
- 1:55:28Speaker 19: Oh, boy.
- 1:55:29Speaker 4: Which one are you picking on this? That's the thing.
- 1:55:32Speaker 4: This one, I mean, and then as I went into it, like,
- 1:55:36Speaker 4: I was doing, you know. Doing research. Important research on
- 1:55:40Speaker 4: Ghostbusters for this. And I'm like, they've kind of always
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: done that. Now, granted, that's only three movies. But, like,
- 1:55:47Speaker 4: the first one is, like, the most theme song theme
- 1:55:49Speaker 4: song ever. Like, it's the most iconic theme song. theme
- 1:55:53Speaker 4: song singing the name of the movie over and over
- 1:55:55Speaker 4: again so it's like all right i expected that but
- 1:55:57Speaker 4: then like there's still at least one other song in
- 1:56:01Speaker 4: that first soundtrack that like they wrote it because of
- 1:56:05Speaker 4: the movie they're referencing me ghostbusters back in.
- 1:56:08Speaker 14: Do what somebody's watching me i'm just trying to guess
- 1:56:11Speaker 14: i'm just guessing over here well no it's uh because
- 1:56:14Speaker 14: that wasn't a part of ghostbusters was it but i
- 1:56:16Speaker 14: think it was on the It was on the radio
- 1:56:19Speaker 14: at the same time. What was the one that had
- 1:56:21Speaker 14: Michael Jackson dealing part of the chorus?
- 1:56:23Speaker 4: That is... And it was like the same year as Ghostbusters,
- 1:56:26Speaker 4: but I don't think it was in the Ghostbusters movie,
- 1:56:28Speaker 4: but the song is like... I always feel like somebody's
- 1:56:31Speaker 4: watching me. I believe it's Rockwell. Okay, that sounds right, actually.
- 1:56:34Speaker 4: Let's double check. But that wasn't, I don't think, a
- 1:56:37Speaker 4: part of the Ghostbusters soundtrack, but it was the same year.
- 1:56:39Speaker 20: Rockwell.
- 1:56:41Speaker 4: And it seems like it got associated with.
- 1:56:43Speaker 10: It a lot.
- 1:56:44Speaker 4: Singer-songwriter. Somebody's watching me.
- 1:56:47Speaker 19: Yep.
- 1:56:48Speaker 4: Damn, I pulled that out of my useless brain. Rockwell
- 1:56:52Speaker 4: is the... Yeah, and that is his claim to fame.
- 1:56:54Speaker 4: He had that song. I don't know what sort of
- 1:56:57Speaker 4: blackmail material. I guess now it seems a little more realistic, possibly.
- 1:57:01Speaker 4: Maybe he offered his firstborn child to Michael to do
- 1:57:03Speaker 4: some lyrics in the chorus. What sort of blackmail material
- 1:57:05Speaker 4: he had on Michael Jackson? Because how often are you like,
- 1:57:08Speaker 4: you know, I want somebody doing some backup on my song.
- 1:57:11Speaker 4: I don't know. How about Michael Jackson? He got Prima
- 1:57:13Speaker 4: knocked down. It's like his first newborn male boy. All right,
- 1:57:17Speaker 4: so what... But no, then it was like, in that
- 1:57:20Speaker 4: same one, it's like the busboys, I think, do the
- 1:57:24Speaker 4: Guess Who's Back in Town and they're referencing Ghostbusters in
- 1:57:28Speaker 4: the middle of the song, as we'll hear. So I'm like,
- 1:57:30Speaker 4: even in that first one, we've got that going on.
- 1:57:33Speaker 4: By the second one, Bobby Brown's.
- 1:57:36Speaker 22: In the movie.
- 1:57:36Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, yeah. He's in the movie.
- 1:57:39Speaker 14: His rap at the end were like... He's rapping about,
- 1:57:43Speaker 14: what was the bad guy, Vigo?
- 1:57:45Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. And it's like he has this whole like
- 1:57:47Speaker 4: little smash rap again. Talking about Vigo, master of evil.
- 1:57:53Speaker 4: It's just so awful. Yeah, we'll get to that too.
- 1:57:59Speaker 4: And there's at least one more in that second one.
- 1:58:02Speaker 4: I think they bring in Run DMC, which again shows
- 1:58:05Speaker 4: that was like 1988, I think. So like the height
- 1:58:07Speaker 4: of like, mtv mtv like tv like you had to
- 1:58:13Speaker 4: have a guitar if you wanted to be on on
- 1:58:15Speaker 4: screen so unless you were cutting edge rap stars you
- 1:58:19Speaker 4: know so run dmc kind of came.
- 1:58:21Speaker 14: Through and like but i mean isn't that i saw
- 1:58:24Speaker 14: something on run dmc that what how like Well, that's
- 1:58:28Speaker 14: what they realized. The whole thing with Aerosmith was that
- 1:58:30Speaker 14: they couldn't get on MTV.
- 1:58:31Speaker 4: They were like, nobody's ever going to put rap on
- 1:58:33Speaker 4: there by itself. We're never going to break through. They've
- 1:58:36Speaker 4: been doing rap for like 15 years before that fully
- 1:58:40Speaker 4: established okay yeah you know the curtis blow was occasionally
- 1:58:44Speaker 4: making appearance on like american bandstand but like he's not
- 1:58:47Speaker 4: mainstream he wasn't gonna break through into top 40 on
- 1:58:51Speaker 4: soul train but they weren't getting on that yeah you're
- 1:58:53Speaker 4: not gonna break through or you weren't getting a yo
- 1:58:55Speaker 4: mtv raps yet until you bring in aerosmith who themselves
- 1:58:59Speaker 4: were has-beens at that point like they drug them out
- 1:59:02Speaker 4: of the gutter probably literally and we're like dude we
- 1:59:05Speaker 4: need somebody to help us get in you guys need
- 1:59:07Speaker 4: a foot back into this game right it was a
- 1:59:10Speaker 4: very strange mutual.
- 1:59:11Speaker 14: It was yeah it's amazing and it really is a
- 1:59:14Speaker 14: great video like even to today it's very it holds
- 1:59:18Speaker 14: up it's very it's very tongue-in-cheek like it's very because
- 1:59:22Speaker 14: you know it's not like it was an aggressive thing
- 1:59:24Speaker 14: but you know in the 80s it was like rap
- 1:59:27Speaker 14: or rock you know it was one of those things
- 1:59:28Speaker 14: like you couldn't be both You know, so.
- 1:59:30Speaker 4: It was really cool to see a great rapper and
- 1:59:33Speaker 4: an established classical rock artist like, oh, no, dude, it's music.
- 1:59:38Speaker 4: You know, and it was such a fun video. You know,
- 1:59:40Speaker 4: we hang out and party together. You guys can too.
- 1:59:43Speaker 4: The fans just let's all come together.
- 1:59:44Speaker 8: And it did.
- 1:59:45Speaker 4: It honestly did mesh really well. It's actually a really
- 1:59:47Speaker 4: clever song. It overlaps really well. So, we're not playing that, though. But,
- 1:59:54Speaker 4: I mean, again, of the cheesy stuff on the Ghostbusters
- 1:59:57Speaker 4: 2 soundtrack, Run DMC is badass, so you can't go
- 2:00:00Speaker 4: wrong with that. But then I started looking at this
- 2:00:02Speaker 4: new one, and this new one, like, it's not just that, okay, yeah,
- 2:00:05Speaker 4: somebody else is going to cover the Ghostbusters song, but
- 2:00:09Speaker 4: it's on here, like, over and over again in different forms.
- 2:00:13Speaker 4: There is, uh, Walk the Moon, uh, pentatonix obviously i'm
- 2:00:20Speaker 4: very familiar with them uh wolf alice does a song
- 2:00:24Speaker 4: called ghoster uh let's see fallout boy your your pal
- 2:00:28Speaker 4: fallout boy and missy elliott does ghostbusters quotations i'm not
- 2:00:33Speaker 4: afraid close quotation uh let's see we got mark ronson
- 2:00:38Speaker 4: passion pit i don't even know who this other dude
- 2:00:41Speaker 4: is uh doing get ghost i mean how and original
- 2:00:45Speaker 4: version by ray parker jr is also on here you
- 2:00:48Speaker 4: have like half the songs on this soundtrack mention ghostbusters
- 2:00:53Speaker 4: like by name or referencing ghosts and stuff going on
- 2:00:57Speaker 4: in the plot or like it's just the whole thing
- 2:00:59Speaker 4: is unnecessary in a way but i'm like you know
- 2:01:02Speaker 4: it's also like i kind of like when they really
- 2:01:05Speaker 4: make the soundtrack about the movie that it isn't just
- 2:01:08Speaker 4: Here's some songs by the same, you know, recording company
- 2:01:11Speaker 4: that is partners with the studio. And they slap these
- 2:01:14Speaker 4: in because they're pushing this band this year. I mean, granted,
- 2:01:17Speaker 4: they're still picking bands that are quote unquote popular right now. But,
- 2:01:20Speaker 4: and Missy Elliott. But, ah, slam. But, I was just like,
- 2:01:27Speaker 4: at least like they did well before the movie got made.
- 2:01:30Speaker 4: Well before the bad press started. They were like, okay,
- 2:01:32Speaker 4: we're going to bring in all these people. We're going
- 2:01:34Speaker 4: to bring in all these current artists. And we're going
- 2:01:36Speaker 4: to put together a soundtrack that really is kind of
- 2:01:38Speaker 4: about this. And then we'll slip a couple of extra
- 2:01:41Speaker 4: songs in there. Because don't get me wrong, I am,
- 2:01:44Speaker 4: in a future episode, going to be working in Rhythm
- 2:01:46Speaker 4: of the Night. Don't you worry. You can't go wrong
- 2:01:49Speaker 4: with DeBarge. But it wasn't creepy enough. Okay, in my opinion,
- 2:01:52Speaker 4: I think it's awesome. Many people would be creeped out
- 2:01:55Speaker 4: by DeBarge. But, yeah, and that seems funny in the movie,
- 2:01:59Speaker 4: but it doesn't really work in our Halloween episode. So...
- 2:02:02Speaker 4: The rest of these, though, like, there's so many of
- 2:02:04Speaker 4: them that were so ghost-centric. I'm like, now, what kind
- 2:02:08Speaker 4: of a geek would sit down and make a Ghostbusters
- 2:02:12Speaker 4: mega-mix of all this nonsense? Oh, wait, it's me. So,
- 2:02:17Speaker 4: that's what we're going to close out on. This monstrosity
- 2:02:21Speaker 4: of Ghostbusters songs, I don't know. There was too much.
- 2:02:25Speaker 4: I couldn't not do it. Because we can't just play one. Like,
- 2:02:28Speaker 4: they're all about Ghostbusters.
- 2:02:30Speaker 8: Like, the.
- 2:02:31Speaker 4: DJ Slimer, Megamix. DJ Brian Meltdown. MC Vigo, Nightlord, Dubstep.
- 2:02:42Speaker 4: I don't know. So that's how we're going to go out.
- 2:02:45Speaker 4: Do you have any closing thoughts for this spooky episode?
- 2:02:50Speaker 4: It makes me want to go back and visit all
- 2:02:51Speaker 4: these 90s soundtracks now. I'm telling you. And into the
- 2:02:54Speaker 4: future with Ghostbusters. When the sequel, oh, probably doesn't get made. Okay,
- 2:03:00Speaker 4: I don't know if it was a race thing or
- 2:03:02Speaker 4: a lady thing, but I'm mad as hell. Otherwise, that
- 2:03:06Speaker 4: about does it. Thank you once again to Gallery K
- 2:03:09Speaker 4: for letting us come here and hang around and loiter
- 2:03:12Speaker 4: and drink our pumpkin lattes and have a big Halloween hootenanny. So, yeah,
- 2:03:17Speaker 4: support them. Go to galleryk, that's just the letter, k.net,
- 2:03:21Speaker 4: and yeah, see what they've got going on. They also
- 2:03:24Speaker 4: put together some awesome art shows, and many others. There's
- 2:03:27Speaker 4: some really awesome art on the walls in here. Yeah,
- 2:03:29Speaker 4: they've got really cool stuff, and it's an interesting layout,
- 2:03:33Speaker 4: and they do a lot of cool different types of shows. So, yeah,
- 2:03:36Speaker 4: go check them out, and thanks to them for supporting us.
- 2:03:41Speaker 4: And with that, I will remind you, Get a Life
- 2:03:44Speaker 4: will provide the spooky soundtrack.
- 2:03:49Speaker 8: Hello, Ghostbusters.
- 2:03:50Speaker 15: Hello, Ghostbusters.
- 2:04:01Speaker 3: Show this prehistoric bitch how we do things downtown.
- 2:04:06Speaker 5: If there's something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call?
- 2:04:19Speaker 4: Ghostbusters!
- 2:04:28Speaker 8: If there's something weird and it don't look good, who
- 2:04:32Speaker 8: you gonna call? The city is headed for a disaster.
- 2:04:36Speaker 23: Of biblical proportions.
- 2:04:38Speaker 9: Who you gonna call.
- 2:04:39Speaker 1: When you feel it all up and up inside your head?
- 2:04:42Speaker 8: Do you wanna know where the story goes or make
- 2:04:45Speaker 8: it up and sad?
- 2:04:46Speaker 19: Now you're complicated, scares us to the bone, but.
- 2:04:51Speaker 8: No one says you're bad.
- 2:05:28Speaker 6: All alone with a friend, one to the two.
- 2:05:32Speaker 8: Joe, is that what I did?
- 2:05:34Speaker 4: Did I see something?
- 2:05:36Speaker 8: You're still on your spine. Your heart doesn't strike. Not
- 2:05:40Speaker 8: filled by the flames that go bump in the night.
- 2:05:44Speaker 8: Walk through the wall with no time to stall. You
- 2:05:47Speaker 8: call the Ghostbusters. Look, that's who you call. Ghostbusters.
- 2:05:52Speaker 9: We, we, we, we. Let's go.
- 2:06:31Speaker 23: Too hot to handle, too cold to hold. They called
- 2:06:34Speaker 23: the Ghostbusters and they're in control. Had a throwing party
- 2:06:37Speaker 23: for a bunch of children. Well, all the while, the
- 2:06:39Speaker 23: slime was under the building. So they packed up, regrouped,
- 2:06:42Speaker 23: got a grip, came equipped. Grabbed a proton patch on
- 2:06:44Speaker 23: the back, then they split. Find out about Eagle, the
- 2:06:47Speaker 23: master of evil.
- 2:06:47Speaker 8: Try to battle my boys? That's not legal. Yeah, I
- 2:06:55Speaker 8: think this is gonna be another one of those fun ones. Heart, soul, dance.
- 2:07:13Speaker 5: What a lovely singing voice you must have.
- 2:07:16Speaker 8: And I go wild Faced with creatures of.
- 2:07:19Speaker 18: The night You think they won't make you spooked But
- 2:07:26Speaker 18: it just feels so scary Time to leave this world
- 2:08:18Speaker 18: behind And that's the only situation We can make.
- 2:08:24Speaker 8: It out alive I.
- 2:08:27Speaker 9: See tears in your.
- 2:08:29Speaker 18: Eyes Fear leaves you paralyzed My.
- 2:08:34Speaker 6: Fear spurs me on.
- 2:08:36Speaker 8: It boils my blood It's a natural.
- 2:08:39Speaker 1: Heart I ain't afraid of no ghost.
- 2:09:15Speaker 4: You know busting makes me feel good.
- 2:09:17Speaker 6: I ain't afraid of no ghost.
- 2:09:24Speaker 8: You know busting makes me feel good.
- 2:09:28Speaker 19: When the things that slither in the shadows Keep you
- 2:09:35Speaker 19: up late at night When there's something lurking in your
- 2:09:40Speaker 19: closet Who can make you feel alright That's right.
- 2:09:54Speaker 8: Ghostbusters.
- 2:10:24Speaker 6: Ghostbusters, what do you want?
- 2:10:50Speaker 22: We'll be right back. They had no sense of fear,
- 2:11:09Speaker 22: cause they knew.
- 2:11:10Speaker 10: That they were missing those boys who the bitches showed
- 2:11:13Speaker 10: and called.
- 2:11:14Speaker 8: Them a right cheat. They were a bunch.
- 2:11:16Speaker 10: Of naps, tried to pass you through the joint, you
- 2:11:18Speaker 10: stepped right in and got down to the point where the.
- 2:11:20Speaker 8: Gold buttons just came in.
- 2:11:22Speaker 1: Pretty!
- 2:11:35Speaker 7: About five o'clock those boys came up and they could
- 2:11:38Speaker 7: see those folks were real And they knew they'd better
- 2:11:41Speaker 7: get right.
- 2:11:42Speaker 8: To work so they revved up and acted real Dancing
- 2:11:52Speaker 8: around and the whole town started to roar. And they'd
- 2:11:55Speaker 8: see it each time they'd box those sliders, plop down
- 2:11:58Speaker 8: and do the throw.
- 2:11:59Speaker 10: They weren't boxing, they were trapping, they were shooting through
- 2:12:02Speaker 10: the junk. They'd fight me and I got down to
- 2:12:05Speaker 10: the point that.
- 2:12:05Speaker 8: Was close by.
- 2:12:27Speaker 4: Guys, I cannot do it by myself.
- 2:12:29Speaker 17: This equipment is untested and highly understable.
- 2:12:36Speaker 23: If they want something bad, yo, they gotta wanna give
- 2:12:39Speaker 23: you all.
- 2:12:40Speaker 6: Cause I believe so much.
- 2:12:43Speaker 8: In we, and no, we're not kidding.
- 2:12:45Speaker 23: If they feel the same as me, yo, they gotta
- 2:12:48Speaker 23: wanna take the ball.
- 2:12:51Speaker 8: Now find out that nothing is given.
- 2:12:54Speaker 1: Don't know where the cards may fall.
- 2:13:00Speaker 10: All I know is that we've got to get it.
- 2:13:04Speaker 8: We've got to make it or not.
- 2:13:07Speaker 1: Well, I guess we're going to have.
- 2:13:11Speaker 8: To take control.
- 2:13:20Speaker 6: To us, we've got to take it on.
- 2:13:28Speaker 8: Now can't you see that all we need to do
- 2:13:31Speaker 8: is go get up? Gotta make your own decision.
- 2:13:34Speaker 19: You gotta go for what you know.
- 2:13:38Speaker 8: We'll be right back.
- 2:13:57Speaker 10: All I know is that we've got to get it.
- 2:14:01Speaker 6: We've got to make it on our own.
- 2:14:05Speaker 1: Well, I guess we're gonna have to take control.
- 2:14:11Speaker 6: If it's up to us, we've got to take it on.
- 2:14:16Speaker 1: Gotta, gotta take it home.
- 2:14:20Speaker 8: Gotta, gotta, gotta take it home.
- 2:14:39Speaker 4: I think we better split up.
- 2:14:40Speaker 1: Good idea.
- 2:14:41Speaker 18: Yeah, we can do more damage that way.
- 2:14:58Speaker 8: So you get the call? Now, it's no dream because
- 2:15:14Speaker 8: you've seen a shadow in the night. But we will
- 2:15:17Speaker 8: come and get it done.
- 2:15:18Speaker 1: Don't worry, Satan's right.
- 2:15:20Speaker 4: Now, there's a group who likes the truth.
- 2:15:22Speaker 8: And you know you can trust us.
- 2:15:24Speaker 4: So don't get nervous, because at your service, the locals
- 2:15:26Speaker 4: go faster!
- 2:15:42Speaker 12: I remember the time I visited the grave My life
- 2:15:47Speaker 12: on the line Only my life to save All by
- 2:15:51Speaker 12: myself With no one around Did not understand A hand
- 2:15:56Speaker 12: coming out the ground I knew.
- 2:15:58Speaker 19: It wasn't mine It was somebody else's But I didn't care, G.
- 2:16:03Speaker 8: I just need my own men. Ghostbusters! And strapped to
- 2:16:07Speaker 8: their back, screaming, Ghostbusters! Ghostbusters attack. We had a really
- 2:16:13Speaker 8: neighborhood Ghostbusters. That's what they said to me.
- 2:16:16Speaker 4: Be all the busters of any, G-H-O-S-T.
- 2:16:18Speaker 8: Ghostbusters! Howling, haunting, scaring, screaming, ghostly.
- 2:16:29Speaker 10: Ghosts, ghouling demons, monsters, spooks, werewolves, and devils.
- 2:16:33Speaker 8: All those things. Nightmare, Batman, can it be beat? It
- 2:16:39Speaker 8: takes a brave man to can and defeat. You must
- 2:16:43Speaker 8: be brave, just the bravest of most.
- 2:16:46Speaker 12: You must be able to say, I ain't afraid of
- 2:16:49Speaker 12: no ghost.
- 2:16:52Speaker 9: Go, go, go, go, go.
- 2:16:54Speaker 6: Bustin', bustin', bustin'..
- 2:16:56Speaker 8: One time in the house. Kiss everybody out there. We
- 2:17:00Speaker 8: love ya. Somebody get me the Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters! Ghostbusters. I
- 2:17:20Speaker 8: ain't afraid of no ghosts. Ghostbusters. I ain't afraid of
- 2:17:25Speaker 8: no ghosts. Ghostbusters. I ain't afraid of no ghosts.
- 2:17:30Speaker 4: Ghostbusters.
- 2:17:31Speaker 6: I ain't afraid of no ghosts.
- 2:17:37Speaker 8: Ghostbusters.
- 2:17:40Speaker 6: Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da- When it comes through your door Unless you just
- 2:18:31Speaker 6: want some more I think you better call.
- 2:18:33Speaker 8: Ghostbusters Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters Who you gonna call?
- 2:18:45Speaker 8: Think you better call? Ghostbusters! Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!
- 2:18:52Speaker 6: I can't hear you.
- 2:18:53Speaker 4: Who you gonna call?
- 2:18:55Speaker 8: Ghostbusters! Louder! Ghostbusters! Who you gonna call?
- 2:19:02Speaker 6: Ghostbusters! Who can you call? Ghostbusters! Who you gonna call?
- 2:19:11Speaker 8: Ghostbusters! We came, we saw, we kicked its ass.
- 2:19:22Speaker 4: This is like super geeky bonus track. It's like the
- 2:19:27Speaker 4: hidden track at the end of the album. Let's go.
- 2:19:33Speaker 15: Let's go. Oh, I'm sorry.
- 2:19:35Speaker 4: I'll let you. Again, you just watched it. I just
- 2:19:39Speaker 4: watched it two days ago, and I have very strong opinions.
- 2:19:42Speaker 4: All right, let's go ahead. Throw them in just minorly.
- 2:19:45Speaker 4: We can do a whole episode if we want, but
- 2:19:47Speaker 4: for now, let's do a great thing of it. All right.
- 2:19:51Speaker 14: Well, I would start off by saying that I'm really impartial.
- 2:19:55Speaker 14: When all the hate started, it was really fun to
- 2:19:57Speaker 14: watch videos on it and keep up with both sides.
- 2:20:00Speaker 4: The online bitching.
- 2:20:01Speaker 10: Right.
- 2:20:02Speaker 4: But for me, honestly, I love Ghostbusters, but I'm not
- 2:20:04Speaker 4: one of those people that was like, you know, like
- 2:20:07Speaker 4: you said before, it can't be touched. That's what I'm saying.
- 2:20:10Speaker 4: I've gotten more and more like that as years have
- 2:20:12Speaker 4: gone on. I think for me... do whatever you want
- 2:20:13Speaker 4: to do. Just do a good thing.
- 2:20:15Speaker 14: I was just like, I'm just, when I watch it,
- 2:20:17Speaker 14: that's going to be what decides it for me. I
- 2:20:18Speaker 14: don't care how the marketing is. I don't care all
- 2:20:21Speaker 14: the back drama. If the movie is good, then the
- 2:20:24Speaker 14: movie is good. And I honestly didn't laugh once. And
- 2:20:27Speaker 14: to me, that's what, what it was about. And I,
- 2:20:30Speaker 14: like I said, I went in open-minded. I did not
- 2:20:32Speaker 14: have a bias at all going into this. I was like,
- 2:20:36Speaker 14: I love Ghostbusters and this doesn't change Ghostbusters. I still
- 2:20:38Speaker 14: have that movie. So I was like, if, and everyone
- 2:20:41Speaker 14: in this movie, I'm like, you are all funny people.
- 2:20:43Speaker 14: This should be a really good movie. And in the end,
- 2:20:45Speaker 14: I really just think in my opinion, if it falls
- 2:20:48Speaker 14: on Paul Feig, not on the cast, like that script
- 2:20:51Speaker 14: was just so underwhelming and all the jokes. One, actually
- 2:20:57Speaker 14: a buddy, um, kind of put it really well, I think.
- 2:20:59Speaker 14: He said that it felt like it was SNL sketches
- 2:21:03Speaker 14: tried to be done in a movie format.
- 2:21:05Speaker 4: And it's like, it's just, they didn't land. They've fallen
- 2:21:07Speaker 4: victim of, for the last 30, some odd, however, well, 40,
- 2:21:10Speaker 4: how long has SNL been going on, that they've been
- 2:21:12Speaker 4: knocking out movies, some of which are classics, a lot
- 2:21:16Speaker 4: of which fall by the wayside because they're bad SNL sketches,
- 2:21:19Speaker 4: drug out way too long. For me, and I think
- 2:21:23Speaker 4: I mentioned this afterwards, I like, I, I kind of
- 2:21:26Speaker 4: got sick of it all. Cause I'm just like, again,
- 2:21:28Speaker 4: the same thing. Like, I don't care who it is.
- 2:21:30Speaker 4: All these women are funny. I don't care if they're women.
- 2:21:33Speaker 4: I had issues with like, why even make it, why
- 2:21:37Speaker 4: not just go ahead and make it in the same universe? Really?
- 2:21:39Speaker 6: Right.
- 2:21:40Speaker 4: Then you can't work in the cameos, but the cameos
- 2:21:43Speaker 4: are pretty funny. But, um, yeah, I think my take
- 2:21:46Speaker 4: on it was, I feel like the jokey joke stuff
- 2:21:49Speaker 4: was pretty mainstream and normal. What I responded to is
- 2:21:52Speaker 4: I do like all those, those actresses and, The interpersonal stuff,
- 2:21:57Speaker 4: like the little like offhand comments, I always thought were funny.
- 2:22:02Speaker 4: And it was just like minor things that they would
- 2:22:04Speaker 4: say to each other in between the big, you know,
- 2:22:07Speaker 4: stagey scenes and pratfalls and silly stuff. Like there was
- 2:22:11Speaker 4: just some stuff that I don't even know if was
- 2:22:13Speaker 4: in the script.
- 2:22:14Speaker 23: Right.
- 2:22:14Speaker 4: Well, it doesn't say it kind of makes you wonder
- 2:22:16Speaker 4: at each other. And I'm like, they were just improvving
- 2:22:18Speaker 4: on the spot in between bigger jokes.
- 2:22:20Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 2:22:20Speaker 4: The little chemistry between the three and then girl just
- 2:22:24Speaker 4: does all her, she just yells all her lines. And
- 2:22:26Speaker 4: some of them are funny every once in a while,
- 2:22:28Speaker 4: but she's just kind of silly in her own special way.
- 2:22:31Speaker 4: I don't dislike her. She's just funny. But the, our
- 2:22:33Speaker 4: main three scientists, like, I think they have good chemistry,
- 2:22:37Speaker 4: and they do kind of work as a weird little team. And, like,
- 2:22:40Speaker 4: I would kind of like to see them do more together.
- 2:22:42Speaker 4: I wouldn't even mind if they did another Ghostbusters. Like,
- 2:22:45Speaker 4: they set up some really cool stuff that tied into
- 2:22:49Speaker 4: the previous universe of Ghostbusters. And I'm like, I don't
- 2:22:52Speaker 4: mind it. Do another one. Like, again, I would like
- 2:22:54Speaker 4: it if it got even better. But I'm like, I
- 2:22:56Speaker 4: feel like you've got the bones... of a good team
- 2:22:59Speaker 4: here that like, and Paul Feig, again, I still haven't
- 2:23:03Speaker 4: seen a lot of his, but I'm like, he's not untalented.
- 2:23:06Speaker 14: I think the Bridesmaids movies are funny. And so I
- 2:23:09Speaker 14: was like, why is everyone hating on Melissa McCarthy? And
- 2:23:11Speaker 14: this dude's like, this could end up being a really
- 2:23:14Speaker 14: funny movie. It's just the backdrop. You know, if Ghostbusters
- 2:23:17Speaker 14: is just the backdrop for a script, this might be great.
- 2:23:20Speaker 14: It might give them a lot of stuff to work
- 2:23:21Speaker 14: with to tell great jokes. And for me, they just
- 2:23:24Speaker 14: didn't land.
- 2:23:25Speaker 4: For me, it felt like, like you said, like, If
- 2:23:27Speaker 4: there was humor, it was in what felt like the
- 2:23:30Speaker 4: little stuff that wasn't necessarily meant to be funny funny. Well, okay.
- 2:23:35Speaker 4: Across the board, the thing that always struck me as
- 2:23:37Speaker 4: funny is Thor. It's out of his damn mind.
- 2:23:40Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 2:23:41Speaker 4: And like, I like that they just committed to that.
- 2:23:43Speaker 4: Like it was, especially that guy coming in. Man, they
- 2:23:45Speaker 4: took Bimbo to the nth level. Yeah. Like he was just.
- 2:23:48Speaker 4: And like to the point, like you'd.
- 2:23:49Speaker 13: Think he'd be.
- 2:23:49Speaker 4: Like the part with the coffee is where I almost
- 2:23:51Speaker 4: laughed because like he spit the coffee. Whoa, what the?
- 2:23:54Speaker 4: And it's just, and then they played that throughout the
- 2:23:56Speaker 4: whole movie when he drinks coffee later on.
- 2:23:58Speaker 10: I'm like.
- 2:23:58Speaker 4: They'd just make him a little silly at the beginning,
- 2:24:01Speaker 4: and then he'd become an important part of the plot.
- 2:24:03Speaker 4: I mean, he is, but an important part of the team,
- 2:24:06Speaker 4: and he'd really kind of get his shit together, and
- 2:24:08Speaker 4: he wouldn't be an idiot. Oh, the dance scene felt
- 2:24:09Speaker 4: so out of place. That does seem very forced. Oh,
- 2:24:12Speaker 4: the police force is dancing. It seems forced. Is this
- 2:24:15Speaker 4: funny to anybody? That was my thing. I was kind
- 2:24:17Speaker 4: of looking around the room like, I mean, for a kid,
- 2:24:19Speaker 4: would this be funny, maybe? Like, I'm trying to understand
- 2:24:21Speaker 4: where there's humor, because it was so long. It was
- 2:24:24Speaker 4: like a good 45 seconds to a minute. It was
- 2:24:26Speaker 4: a long dance scene. But not really enough to make
- 2:24:29Speaker 4: it like a thing. But that's what felt out of place. Like,
- 2:24:32Speaker 4: to me, either make it a full-on ridiculous dance scene, like,
- 2:24:37Speaker 4: is why he's like, there's some reason within the plot
- 2:24:40Speaker 4: that he wants to do this. We'll incorporate the ghost,
- 2:24:42Speaker 4: have the ghost dancing with them or something. It was
- 2:24:44Speaker 4: just like this weird mess. Or just don't do it.
- 2:24:46Speaker 4: But that like almost too long, but not long enough
- 2:24:50Speaker 4: to make it really a thing. Like it felt like
- 2:24:52Speaker 4: they probably shot a full dancing. Oh man, that last
- 2:24:55Speaker 4: third felt like a separate movie. Yeah. So once they
- 2:24:57Speaker 4: go to like wrap things up, it felt like this
- 2:25:00Speaker 4: pre-filmed ending just got tacked on. And done. Yeah. But no,
- 2:25:06Speaker 4: that was my thing. His performance is kind of amazing
- 2:25:09Speaker 4: because he fully commits. He is ridiculous and insane the
- 2:25:13Speaker 4: entire movie. Even when there's weird supernatural elements that come in,
- 2:25:18Speaker 4: he still doesn't snap back into being a normal person.
- 2:25:21Speaker 4: It's like his dumbness mixed with this other weird guy,
- 2:25:24Speaker 4: and I'm just like... It never becomes normal. Like, that
- 2:25:27Speaker 4: was a pretty ballsy move for a studio movie to
- 2:25:30Speaker 4: be like, we're going to take this super popular actor.
- 2:25:32Speaker 4: We're going to make him not only kind of dumb.
- 2:25:35Speaker 4: Wasn't he like last year's sexiest man alive? And like
- 2:25:38Speaker 4: I said, if you're going for cliche bingo, it's perfect.
- 2:25:40Speaker 4: They're not stupid because he's also in that little t-shirt
- 2:25:42Speaker 4: the whole time. So I'm like, dude's hot. He is
- 2:25:45Speaker 4: Clark Kent. He's all ripped and shit. But I'm just like, yeah, I...
- 2:25:50Speaker 4: I'm like, that's an amazing performance because it's not at
- 2:25:54Speaker 4: all what you would expect, especially in a big studio movie.
- 2:25:57Speaker 4: And maybe that's why it caught people off guard. They're like,
- 2:25:59Speaker 4: what the hell is this? And we don't want to
- 2:26:00Speaker 4: see this again. So maybe that's why they're going to
- 2:26:02Speaker 4: scrap it from here on out. But I still think
- 2:26:05Speaker 4: there's a lot of good in it. It's got issues,
- 2:26:07Speaker 4: as we said. I just would like to see a
- 2:26:09Speaker 4: different writer. I don't think there's anything wrong with the cast.
- 2:26:12Speaker 4: The people involved, I don't think there's anything wrong with them.
- 2:26:14Speaker 4: I think either let them have more input on the
- 2:26:17Speaker 4: script and let them do their own thing more. These
- 2:26:19Speaker 4: are all people that are used to improv and writing
- 2:26:21Speaker 4: their own comedy. Write it. Because sometimes you get to
- 2:26:23Speaker 4: those comedies that are so much improv, you lose a
- 2:26:26Speaker 4: story altogether. Like anything Seth Rogen does. Well, then you
- 2:26:28Speaker 4: get Waiting for Guffman. Seth Rogen involved in anything. I
- 2:26:31Speaker 4: love all those shows, but Waiting for Guffman was the
- 2:26:33Speaker 4: week when I felt like this improv is not quite landing.
- 2:26:35Speaker 4: It's a little, yeah. So, yeah, definitely write your good jokes,
- 2:26:38Speaker 4: but let them... Let them go a little off script.
- 2:26:41Speaker 4: Give them time for that. You need a story that
- 2:26:44Speaker 4: you're telling and then along the way you can improv stuff.
- 2:26:47Speaker 4: But there are some that are just like, alright, and action.
- 2:26:50Speaker 4: Make a movie. They don't even know where they're going
- 2:26:54Speaker 4: by the end of the scene. I'm just like, okay,
- 2:26:56Speaker 4: we at least need a direction that we're heading toward.
- 2:26:59Speaker 4: Something driving the movie would be nice. Thanks. So, within reason.
- 2:27:03Speaker 4: I think both of those come together. Get a decent
- 2:27:06Speaker 4: skeleton and then fill it in with decent improv and
- 2:27:09Speaker 4: Somehow it'll come together. And again, I think all those,
- 2:27:12Speaker 4: those actors involved are good. Yeah, they're all great. Yeah.
- 2:27:14Speaker 14: And it's completely unwarranted the way they were treated with
- 2:27:17Speaker 14: all that. You know, when they made it that whole,
- 2:27:19Speaker 14: you know, him versus her thing and their Twitters were
- 2:27:22Speaker 14: getting hated on like that's. Man, they are funny, great people.
- 2:27:26Speaker 14: Those people are not men haters.
- 2:27:30Speaker 4: They're great. It's not on them. That was the marketing
- 2:27:32Speaker 4: engine of Sony. That was not their fault. And I
- 2:27:35Speaker 4: really responded to Kristen Wiig. Like, I always like seeing
- 2:27:38Speaker 4: her when she does sort of normal roles because she's
- 2:27:40Speaker 4: not the over-the-top one. Like, she's so, like, straight-laced. And
- 2:27:44Speaker 4: so watching her play that and then kind of be silly,
- 2:27:47Speaker 4: but she's got to kind of, like, contain her, you know,
- 2:27:49Speaker 4: because she can be way sillier than that. And, like,
- 2:27:52Speaker 4: she just.
- 2:27:54Speaker 4: I mean you look back at Ghostbusters and I mean
- 2:27:57Speaker 4: it's not like Bill Murray's always being ridiculous it's not
- 2:28:00Speaker 4: like he's straight lacing trying to keep it calm like
- 2:28:03Speaker 4: let them go like let them go it's one of
- 2:28:05Speaker 4: those like if you look at it like from an
- 2:28:08Speaker 4: outside because now we're it's so beloved and we're so
- 2:28:11Speaker 4: like we love Bill Murray we love that movie like
- 2:28:13Speaker 4: everything about it is so like holy that you're not
- 2:28:16Speaker 4: gonna touch it but like if you look at it
- 2:28:19Speaker 4: he's almost like a sociopath yeah like He, like, is
- 2:28:22Speaker 4: so detached. Well, doesn't he make a rape joke about
- 2:28:25Speaker 4: Sigourney Weaver, doesn't he? When she's on the bed all possessed,
- 2:28:31Speaker 4: I want to say he makes a weird date rapey
- 2:28:34Speaker 4: kind of comment. That's creepy, but again, you don't have
- 2:28:38Speaker 4: to go back very far when that stuff was acceptable,
- 2:28:41Speaker 4: so that's weird. But just in general, like, the fact
- 2:28:44Speaker 4: that he never takes anything seriously, like, ever, and there
- 2:28:48Speaker 4: are people's lives at stake. And he never steps it
- 2:28:52Speaker 4: up and is just like, okay guys, seriously. Like the
- 2:28:54Speaker 4: whole time. Like he is just detached and making wise cries,
- 2:28:58Speaker 4: which again for the audience is fucking awesome. But if
- 2:29:01Speaker 4: you're like on any level looking at this as if
- 2:29:03Speaker 4: it were a real thing, like he's possibly completely insane.
- 2:29:08Speaker 4: And luckily he's got some good one liners because it's awesome.
- 2:29:12Speaker 4: But yeah, I don't know.
- 2:29:15Speaker 20: I don't know.
- 2:29:15Speaker 4: I mean, it does again, like, I don't think it's
- 2:29:17Speaker 4: fair to compare it to because I don't think that's
- 2:29:19Speaker 4: what they were trying to do. I don't think you should.
- 2:29:21Speaker 14: It's not fair to compare Kristen Wiig to Bill Murray.
- 2:29:24Speaker 14: That's just not fair. But in a script sense, you know,
- 2:29:28Speaker 14: if you were to like do a one for one,
- 2:29:30Speaker 14: she was meant to kind of be to Bill Murray
- 2:29:32Speaker 14: and she wasn't.
- 2:29:33Speaker 4: Given that level. Yeah. Well, she's not written.
- 2:29:35Speaker 14: Well, I mean, if she's not meant to be to
- 2:29:37Speaker 14: Bill Murray, it would be like, Yeah. McCarthy's obviously to
- 2:29:40Speaker 14: Dan Aykroyd. Egon is the old girl with the blonde hair.
- 2:29:43Speaker 4: But she's fucking hilarious. She was fun to watch, but
- 2:29:45Speaker 4: like I said, it never made me laugh out loud,
- 2:29:46Speaker 4: but she was ridiculous. But again, it's like, talk about commitment. Like,
- 2:29:51Speaker 4: she is that character through and through. Like, she never, like,
- 2:29:55Speaker 4: went into weird little bits. Like, she was that character
- 2:29:59Speaker 4: from the moment the camera came on.
- 2:30:01Speaker 14: It's almost weird because in a way, I guess she
- 2:30:03Speaker 14: acted more Bill Murray than Kirsten Wiig did. Like, she
- 2:30:06Speaker 14: was so, like, no matter what was going on, it.
- 2:30:09Speaker 4: Didn't matter to her. She's pretty silly. But she was
- 2:30:11Speaker 4: clearly Egon. Like, she's clearly the Egon character. Old school
- 2:30:13Speaker 4: Egon is like, business all the time haircut which i
- 2:30:17Speaker 4: do love that they gave her the cartoon egon haircut
- 2:30:19Speaker 4: that was very very cool ever like everything is serious
- 2:30:22Speaker 4: to egon in those other movies so like it is
- 2:30:25Speaker 4: sort of polar opposite so i guess they reversed the
- 2:30:27Speaker 4: two characters the personality of egon yeah she's the serious
- 2:30:31Speaker 4: scientist i didn't think about it that way so i
- 2:30:33Speaker 4: guess you did have all three of their personalities just
- 2:30:35Speaker 4: kind of jumbled up a little but no like i
- 2:30:38Speaker 4: would love i don't say i would love to see
- 2:30:41Speaker 4: another movie but if they do another movie i would
- 2:30:43Speaker 4: really hope there'd be more focus on the writing. I
- 2:30:47Speaker 4: just don't think, well, and what bugged me, cause like
- 2:30:49Speaker 4: I said, someone that was, that didn't choose a side
- 2:30:52Speaker 4: when all the drama was going on, but obviously they
- 2:30:54Speaker 4: made it a men versus women thing, you know? And
- 2:30:58Speaker 4: what bugged me is that you have jokes in your
- 2:31:01Speaker 4: own movie about men and women, like the.
- 2:31:06Speaker 14: Obvious one, you know, when old girl like jumps into
- 2:31:09Speaker 14: the concert crowd and hits the ground. I was like,
- 2:31:11Speaker 14: I don't know if it's a lady thing or a
- 2:31:12Speaker 14: black thing, but it's like, wait, You're writing this. You
- 2:31:16Speaker 14: don't get to go, Oh, you know, men versus women,
- 2:31:19Speaker 14: but then write men versus women kind of jokes.
- 2:31:21Speaker 4: Do you get what I'm saying? Like you're doing a
- 2:31:22Speaker 4: whole like, Oh, did you do just do that to me?
- 2:31:24Speaker 4: Cause I'm a women is like it. you don't get
- 2:31:28Speaker 4: to write that joke and then be defensive about that. Like, oh,
- 2:31:31Speaker 4: you have a problem with women as ghost spiders. Like, wait,
- 2:31:33Speaker 4: you're writing jokes that make you a hypocrite in your
- 2:31:36Speaker 4: stance right now. There was like three or four parts
- 2:31:38Speaker 4: where someone was like, oh, is it because I'm a
- 2:31:40Speaker 4: girl kind of thing? I'm like, what? Why are you
- 2:31:43Speaker 4: doing that? I'm feeling like they're commenting to the audience
- 2:31:47Speaker 4: for real. Like, it's not like they don't know there's
- 2:31:49Speaker 4: an audience there. At this point, they're like, this is
- 2:31:52Speaker 4: a thing from the real world that you guys know. Remember?
- 2:31:54Speaker 4: They're pointing at you out in the audience going, remember
- 2:31:57Speaker 4: that thing on the internet? Yeah, that's what this joke is. Again,
- 2:32:02Speaker 4: a little heavy handed on the real world referencing.
- 2:32:05Speaker 14: Again, I still poke most of it. I put it
- 2:32:09Speaker 14: on Sony and Paul mostly. I just feel bad for
- 2:32:12Speaker 14: everyone else in the movie. They're not tainted, but it
- 2:32:17Speaker 14: seems like all this internet hate got thrown at them
- 2:32:21Speaker 14: and it's like, it's not their fault, man. I mean,
- 2:32:23Speaker 14: you've seen these guys in other stuff. You can't not
- 2:32:26Speaker 14: like these people. These people are not mean, malicious people.
- 2:32:29Speaker 14: These are really great, funny people.
- 2:32:31Speaker 4: It's not, it's not them. Don't, don't get on them
- 2:32:34Speaker 4: about that. It's just, it's just people hating on the
- 2:32:36Speaker 4: whole idea. Like knee jerk reaction. Oh God, a remake.
- 2:32:39Speaker 4: And I'm like, yeah, I don't think you will see
- 2:32:42Speaker 4: an outright rebellion until I've called this movie from day one.
- 2:32:45Speaker 4: When they try to do back to the future, One
- 2:32:48Speaker 4: day it will happen. Can we cast Eric Stiltz? One day.
- 2:32:52Speaker 4: Just the old Eric Stiltz come, I'm going to ride
- 2:32:54Speaker 4: a skateboard. Ah, I broke my hip. Yeah, I think that...
- 2:32:58Speaker 4: His turn is finally going to come back around.
- 2:33:00Speaker 14: You know, I think the... And I don't know, maybe
- 2:33:03Speaker 14: it'll die away. Maybe as like our generation gets older,
- 2:33:06Speaker 14: it just kind of dies off.
- 2:33:07Speaker 4: I mean, that's the thing. The reboot, hey, we'll go away.
- 2:33:09Speaker 4: But wait till like Gen Xers are all gone. I
- 2:33:11Speaker 4: bet you'll have license to do whatever you want because
- 2:33:13Speaker 4: millennials don't hold it near as dear. Millennials are way
- 2:33:18Speaker 4: more detached about everything. Like there is not. That's the warning.
- 2:33:24Speaker 4: We got to get out of here. No, I mean,
- 2:33:27Speaker 4: I rarely see the level of dedication and the fervor
- 2:33:32Speaker 4: that gets worked up when it's somebody newer like a
- 2:33:35Speaker 4: newer generation you just like i feel like they're not
- 2:33:40Speaker 4: near as invested and and maybe that's a healthy thing
- 2:33:43Speaker 4: like again the older generation well again it's that it's
- 2:33:46Speaker 4: that era in between it's like you know back in
- 2:33:48Speaker 4: the 50s nobody gave a rat's ass about geeky stuff
- 2:33:51Speaker 4: like they were going to work every day and you
- 2:33:52Speaker 4: know so it was only that like mid 70s through
- 2:33:55Speaker 4: the 90s that became the geek generation. I think it's
- 2:33:58Speaker 4: a scope thing. We just latched ourselves to all pop culture.
- 2:34:02Speaker 4: And now I think kids are just like, they're invested
- 2:34:04Speaker 4: in so much more. Like there's so much more at
- 2:34:06Speaker 4: their fingertips that they don't focus on any one thing
- 2:34:09Speaker 4: for long enough to be that worked up over it.
- 2:34:12Speaker 4: They still like what they like, but it's not near
- 2:34:15Speaker 4: the investment that, you know, the kids of that era
- 2:34:18Speaker 4: had about everything.
- 2:34:19Speaker 14: I think it's something, I think it's going to be
- 2:34:21Speaker 14: something that, It's going to go away with time because
- 2:34:24Speaker 14: I think, you know, I can only speak for myself,
- 2:34:26Speaker 14: but in the 80s, all I had was what was
- 2:34:30Speaker 14: on the TV, what I saw in the theater, and
- 2:34:32Speaker 14: what I was playing on this video game.
- 2:34:34Speaker 4: Millennials have access to everything. Now that the internet is
- 2:34:38Speaker 4: so accessible, you have access to everything to the end
- 2:34:41Speaker 4: of time. So it's not like you have this small,
- 2:34:43Speaker 4: narrow choice of pop culture stuff. You have everything. So
- 2:34:47Speaker 4: I think, yeah, for us at the time, like Ghostbusters
- 2:34:50Speaker 4: was such a big deal. It was one of those...
- 2:34:52Speaker 4: Few things you had access to back then. Comedy, horror,
- 2:34:55Speaker 4: this is it. They haven't made anything else. It was
- 2:34:57Speaker 4: also a smaller group of things that had been made
- 2:35:00Speaker 4: up to that point.
- 2:35:01Speaker 9: Who knows?
- 2:35:01Speaker 14: If I had more access to 70s, 60s, 50s movies,
- 2:35:04Speaker 14: maybe I would... I've been way into completely other stuff
- 2:35:08Speaker 14: at the time.
- 2:35:08Speaker 4: It would definitely change. But I didn't. At that point,
- 2:35:10Speaker 4: all I had were 80s movies and 80s television. And
- 2:35:12Speaker 4: you couldn't, like you didn't even have access to them.
- 2:35:14Speaker 20: Right.
- 2:35:15Speaker 4: That's what I mean. You couldn't download it. You couldn't
- 2:35:17Speaker 4: rent stuff. Again, that's part of the geeky thing, I think.
- 2:35:21Speaker 4: We were the first generation who then started to get access.
- 2:35:24Speaker 4: So we're like the baby version of what they're getting now.
- 2:35:27Speaker 4: The fact that we had cable being piped into our
- 2:35:29Speaker 4: house- right is a step forward right for the geeks
- 2:35:33Speaker 4: like because before that like you had to go to
- 2:35:35Speaker 4: like a movie house and see a revival of an
- 2:35:37Speaker 4: old movie right that was the only chance you would
- 2:35:39Speaker 4: ever show it to see well no it wasn't even
- 2:35:42Speaker 4: a thing two or three channels like if you go
- 2:35:44Speaker 4: back hf and uhf you only have two or three
- 2:35:45Speaker 4: channels and hbo then if hbo didn't show it you
- 2:35:48Speaker 4: weren't gonna see you go back pre-hbo like Sometimes they
- 2:35:52Speaker 4: would play the late night movie at midnight on a Sunday.
- 2:35:57Speaker 4: You might catch something on regular TV once in your lifetime.
- 2:36:02Speaker 4: That's the circle. That's how I accidentally found Monty Python.
- 2:36:04Speaker 4: I think KET at 2 in the morning would show
- 2:36:07Speaker 4: old school Monty Python. I'm like, what is this? This
- 2:36:09Speaker 4: is it. I've never seen this before. If I would
- 2:36:12Speaker 4: have had full access, I would have known what Monty
- 2:36:14Speaker 4: Python was.
- 2:36:14Speaker 20: Of course.
- 2:36:16Speaker 4: So I think that's the difference we start getting cable
- 2:36:18Speaker 4: piped into our house we have a VHS placed down
- 2:36:20Speaker 4: the street that we can like go and pick specific
- 2:36:23Speaker 4: thing like oh my god that movie I want to
- 2:36:24Speaker 4: see they made a version of it I can take
- 2:36:26Speaker 4: it home and watch it now granted you have to
- 2:36:28Speaker 4: get in a car you have to drive you have
- 2:36:30Speaker 4: to pick out that specific one if it's there then
- 2:36:32Speaker 4: you can bring it back you've only got till tomorrow
- 2:36:34Speaker 4: to take it back 530 the next day so you
- 2:36:36Speaker 4: can go home and watch it right away rewind it
- 2:36:38Speaker 4: pop some freaking popcorn in our new microwave holy shit.
- 2:36:41Speaker 14: Oh what are you talking about when I was a
- 2:36:43Speaker 14: kid you remember the ones he had to do on
- 2:36:44Speaker 14: the oven It kind of looked like an aluminum skillet.
- 2:36:48Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 2:36:48Speaker 4: And you had to like move it in circle and
- 2:36:49Speaker 4: it would blow up real big and round. Retro scream.
- 2:36:52Speaker 4: It's got some jiffy pop in the screen.
- 2:36:54Speaker 8: Nice.
- 2:36:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's part of it. I think we
- 2:36:57Speaker 4: kind of got those baby steps of like, okay, here
- 2:37:00Speaker 4: are the things. They're in your house. They're harder to
- 2:37:02Speaker 4: get to, but you can latch on to them. And
- 2:37:04Speaker 4: that's the thing. We only had that handful of stuff. Like,
- 2:37:07Speaker 4: I paid $ 89. 99 for this VHS tape. It's my favorite
- 2:37:10Speaker 4: movie ever. Versus I download 100 things this weekend. Kids
- 2:37:14Speaker 4: now are just like, I can stream whatever I want
- 2:37:17Speaker 4: on the internet. So you just don't get invested much. physically, financially,
- 2:37:22Speaker 4: like the same way you did.
- 2:37:23Speaker 14: You know, and again, like we're talking about right now,
- 2:37:25Speaker 14: it's like if VHS was so expensive.
- 2:37:28Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 2:37:28Speaker 4: So no like me no joke it was 100 bucks
- 2:37:30Speaker 4: you know that copy of rental copies coming to america
- 2:37:34Speaker 4: that i had got watched whether you liked it or
- 2:37:37Speaker 4: not because it was just it was either that or
- 2:37:39Speaker 4: regular tv so you know you so ghostbusters was something
- 2:37:42Speaker 4: you saw so much back to the future something you
- 2:37:44Speaker 4: saw so much that it's just it's ingrained in us
- 2:37:48Speaker 4: so much more than someone growing up now that has
- 2:37:51Speaker 4: access to so many more things. I watched this one
- 2:37:52Speaker 4: video on YouTube. They're still going to watch it once
- 2:37:54Speaker 4: or twice, but then they're going to move on to
- 2:37:55Speaker 4: something else. And you're not going to watch it again
- 2:37:56Speaker 4: because there's a hundred new videos on YouTube any second.
- 2:38:00Speaker 4: There's no reason to go back to that one. I've
- 2:38:02Speaker 4: already seen it. I'm going to go to that same
- 2:38:03Speaker 4: person's next YouTube video. It's just there's so much more.
- 2:38:07Speaker 4: It's splintered into a million new things that I don't
- 2:38:10Speaker 4: think anybody from this point on will probably latch on
- 2:38:13Speaker 4: to stuff the way that those generations did right there
- 2:38:16Speaker 4: and then. spot, you know?
- 2:38:18Speaker 14: I remember when I was working retail, you know, there's
- 2:38:20Speaker 14: that whole concept of disposable fashion, you know, like clothing
- 2:38:23Speaker 14: is just cheap because it's meant to be worn once
- 2:38:25Speaker 14: or twice and done. I kind of feel like that's
- 2:38:27Speaker 14: unfortunately what entertainment is going to become. It's not going
- 2:38:30Speaker 14: to be meant to like be an outstanding piece of
- 2:38:33Speaker 14: something that, you know, has a legacy and goes on.
- 2:38:35Speaker 4: It's just meant to like Watch this. It's consumption. It's
- 2:38:38Speaker 4: like Michael Bay. It's like, just watch this this summer,
- 2:38:40Speaker 4: have a good time at the theater, and, you know,
- 2:38:43Speaker 4: the movie's whatever next year. It is consumption. Entertainment now
- 2:38:47Speaker 4: has become like food. Like you just, it's like you
- 2:38:52Speaker 4: have to have it at your finger. It's not even,
- 2:38:54Speaker 4: we can't even wait for a certain time in a
- 2:38:56Speaker 4: day to watch. And I was like, I need it now.
- 2:38:57Speaker 4: I hate to admit it. Podcasts are like that. Think
- 2:39:00Speaker 4: how often you go through them. Do you go back
- 2:39:02Speaker 4: and re-listen to them? I have with a few, but
- 2:39:05Speaker 4: not much because there's another one coming. i've got three
- 2:39:08Speaker 4: more of these that are coming out and i like
- 2:39:09Speaker 4: this one i like.
- 2:39:10Speaker 14: This one i miss a podcast about not going back
- 2:39:12Speaker 14: like there's some weird part was like oh i want
- 2:39:14Speaker 14: to listen to the most current one yeah as if
- 2:39:15Speaker 14: somehow because.
- 2:39:16Speaker 4: Talking about an old topic is like out of date
- 2:39:19Speaker 4: a week later that's what i'm saying like we're at
- 2:39:21Speaker 4: the point where we're past like even having like you
- 2:39:25Speaker 4: don't You're not storing up old podcasts and putting them
- 2:39:28Speaker 4: on a shelf and making a box set out of them.
- 2:39:30Speaker 4: When it's gone, it's gone. Have you heard episode 174
- 2:39:32Speaker 4: of Retronauts? Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Let's go
- 2:39:35Speaker 4: back and watch it again for the seventh time. I'm
- 2:39:37Speaker 4: going to re-listen to this podcast from seven years ago.
- 2:39:40Speaker 4: Which is pretty interesting if you do, by the way.
- 2:39:42Speaker 4: I've done it. But only because you're just like, what
- 2:39:45Speaker 4: were we talking about? When we would do the news,
- 2:39:49Speaker 4: and I'm like, oh, not only was that a thing
- 2:39:52Speaker 4: that they had just announced they're going to do, they
- 2:39:53Speaker 4: made it. It fell on its face. We made fun
- 2:39:56Speaker 4: of it then. Now it's forgotten already and they're making
- 2:39:59Speaker 4: a reboot of it. Like within the span of us
- 2:40:01Speaker 4: doing this show, I can already hear things that like
- 2:40:03Speaker 4: hadn't existed to happen to didn't work to, they were
- 2:40:07Speaker 4: trying to do a new version. Like it's weird. The arc,
- 2:40:09Speaker 4: because we've been yammering on in microphones for so long
- 2:40:12Speaker 4: on this show that that actually happens. But yeah, there's
- 2:40:16Speaker 4: a lot of information there.
- 2:40:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:40:20Speaker 4: I think, I think reboot hate is temporary. I think
- 2:40:23Speaker 4: that with millennials, what, internet generations going forward you know
- 2:40:28Speaker 4: that kind of like because like i said i think
- 2:40:30Speaker 4: it was more access we didn't have access to a
- 2:40:32Speaker 4: lot of stuff we only had access to limited things
- 2:40:34Speaker 4: and if you had the money to get it then
- 2:40:35Speaker 4: you probably wore it out you know so that makes
- 2:40:39Speaker 4: you more you know attached and dedicated to it so
- 2:40:42Speaker 4: yeah i completely understand why people are attached reboots i
- 2:40:45Speaker 4: just don't think it's probably all that healthy like probably
- 2:40:49Speaker 4: need to look in the mirror and be like Am
- 2:40:51Speaker 4: I taking this a little too serious? Maybe like, well,
- 2:40:54Speaker 4: that's my thing. Just make a good thing. No matter
- 2:40:56Speaker 4: what it is, like whether it's a new movie or
- 2:40:59Speaker 4: a reboot, you know, podcast or a YouTube channel, like
- 2:41:03Speaker 4: just do a good version of it. Whatever the hell
- 2:41:05Speaker 4: you're doing, whatever level you're doing it, you know, multi-million
- 2:41:08Speaker 4: dollar studio or geek in your basement. Like just somebody
- 2:41:12Speaker 4: put together good product and that's what we need to
- 2:41:14Speaker 4: go look for.
- 2:41:16Speaker 1: Yup. Yup. All right.
- 2:41:18Speaker 4: Have fun with that people. It's like super geeky bonus track.
- 2:41:27Speaker 4: It's like the hidden track at the end of the
- 2:41:29Speaker 4: album is our geek talk.
- 2:41:31Speaker 14: I didn't mean to like, you know, start a whole
- 2:41:33Speaker 14: tangent on Ghostbusters. I just literally just saw like two
- 2:41:35Speaker 14: days ago. It was like, I guess, you know, cause
- 2:41:38Speaker 14: for me, like I said, with all the drama going
- 2:41:39Speaker 14: on in my head, I'm like, I can't wait to
- 2:41:41Speaker 14: see this movie and kind of see.
- 2:41:43Speaker 4: Where I actually land in all this. Cause I was
- 2:41:46Speaker 4: just like this, it was just, it was entertaining.
- 2:41:50Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 2:41:50Speaker 14: To watch the hate videos and the love videos leading
- 2:41:53Speaker 14: up to me finally seeing it. But it was just,
- 2:41:57Speaker 14: it's just too much. Like if, if we're going to
- 2:42:00Speaker 14: freak the fuck out this hard, every time someone does
- 2:42:04Speaker 14: something artistic, you don't agree with you.
- 2:42:07Speaker 4: You don't understand that. The concept of art. It's not
- 2:42:11Speaker 4: meant to be what you expect nice and tidy. That's
- 2:42:14Speaker 4: what I've landed on on these. That's why I've kind
- 2:42:16Speaker 4: of loosened my death grip that everybody else always had
- 2:42:19Speaker 4: on remakes and movies in general. I'm like, it's still art.
- 2:42:22Speaker 4: You want the same movie until the end of time?
- 2:42:24Speaker 4: Is that what you want? You want the same formula
- 2:42:26Speaker 4: and the same thing until the end of time? It
- 2:42:28Speaker 4: needs to be a flowing, living, breathing kind of a
- 2:42:31Speaker 4: thing that constantly changes and has new people come into it.
- 2:42:34Speaker 4: It has new approaches and a new perspective and Maybe
- 2:42:38Speaker 4: you even switch a gender along the way. Holy shit.
- 2:42:41Speaker 4: So I'm like, to me, that isn't the issue. It's
- 2:42:43Speaker 4: just if you do a good job with all those
- 2:42:45Speaker 4: things along the way. So that's, yeah, that's my thing
- 2:42:48Speaker 4: is like, that's the best way to approach art is
- 2:42:50Speaker 4: just let go of your death grip and let somebody
- 2:42:53Speaker 4: put something good out and enjoy it for what it is. Agreed.
- 2:42:58Speaker 4: All right. Take that, people. Ain't afraid of no art. Amen.
- 2:43:07Speaker 8: Talk hard!
