- 1:39Speaker 4: It's a podcast, Come twenty five.
- 1:41Speaker 5: Wis sol twenty line wheel.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Appreciate you guys being here. Got a big show and
- 1:46Speaker 2: we're gonna start.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Off with I mean quite possibly are how We've had
- 1:51Speaker 1: a few big guests, but a tier guests. Steven Asmith
- 1:55Speaker 1: is a tier for sure, for sure. So that's what
- 1:57Speaker 1: we're gonna start with here in New York. We're at
- 1:59Speaker 1: Fanatics Fest, and we spent some time with Steven A.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Smith and he hates the Cowboys.
- 2:03Speaker 2: He does.
- 2:04Speaker 6: He's very open about that.
- 2:05Speaker 1: He's ESPN's biggest personality by far at this point, probably
- 2:08Speaker 1: highest paid, but he hates the Cowboys so much. And
- 2:11Speaker 1: Eddie still had him after the interview signed his Cowboys.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Had on purpose. It is pretty funny. Okay, let's get
- 2:15Speaker 2: the show started here with Steven A. Smith.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Here with Steven A.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Smith, which I have to say, listening to your podcast now,
- 2:23Speaker 1: do you feel freer to be able.
- 2:26Speaker 3: To talk about other things?
- 2:27Speaker 1: Because obviously I love hearing your takes on sports, but
- 2:30Speaker 1: to hear you talk politics and pop culture, like, is
- 2:33Speaker 1: that refreshing for you to be able to spread out now?
- 2:35Speaker 7: Well, for me is what I wanted to do. It's
- 2:37Speaker 7: what I've always wanted to do. I certainly understand that
- 2:40Speaker 7: that's not necessarily the right place to do those kind
- 2:43Speaker 7: of things for ESPN. It's a sports network. And I
- 2:46Speaker 7: remember specifically before twenty twenty round twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen,
- 2:53Speaker 7: when so many things were going on and Jimmy Pittaro
- 2:55Speaker 7: came in as president of ESPN. You know, his whole
- 2:59Speaker 7: thing to get us as a network back and focused
- 3:03Speaker 7: on giving the sports fans what they come to ESPN
- 3:07Speaker 7: the C and if we're being you know, as somebody
- 3:10Speaker 7: that's considered the face of the network, it's my obligation
- 3:15Speaker 7: to highlight when the boss is right. We did do that.
- 3:19Speaker 7: We got away to some degree from giving the audience
- 3:23Speaker 7: what they came to ESPN the C. So I was
- 3:26Speaker 7: in complete support of him in terms of redirecting our
- 3:30Speaker 7: focus back to making sure that when folks come to
- 3:34Speaker 7: a sports network buy and large, that's exactly what the
- 3:37Speaker 7: hell you're giving them. But in the same breath, I
- 3:40Speaker 7: think that when you walk away from that to those
- 3:43Speaker 7: particular channels and you're out here living your own life,
- 3:46Speaker 7: you're paying taxes, you're dealing with crime, you're dealing with
- 3:50Speaker 7: so many different things that are going on in the
- 3:52Speaker 7: real world. I wouldn't call it an obligation, but it
- 3:56Speaker 7: is a good thing to do to show that your
- 3:59Speaker 7: social conscious, you're paying attention to what's going on and
- 4:03Speaker 7: you're not one dimensional in terms of what you think
- 4:06Speaker 7: about and what you feel. And so I like the
- 4:10Speaker 7: idea of having a platform like my podcast Slash Show,
- 4:14Speaker 7: where over iHeartRadio over YouTube. I'm really showing the world
- 4:19Speaker 7: what's on my mind on a day to day basis
- 4:22Speaker 7: that in some cases extend beyond the parameters and sports.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Is it different going viral to a new crowd when
- 4:29Speaker 1: you have an opinion that's not sports, Because I'm sure
- 4:31Speaker 1: you say something sports, it goes viral. It's the same
- 4:33Speaker 1: people yelling at you. But I see you go viral
- 4:35Speaker 1: for all kinds it takes.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Now, it's crazy.
- 4:37Speaker 7: You know, it's a lot of fun when I'm doing
- 4:39Speaker 7: pop culture and entertainment. For the most part, it wasn't
- 4:42Speaker 7: fun when I had to talk about p Diddy. It
- 4:44Speaker 7: wasn't fun when I had to talk about Will Smith.
- 4:47Speaker 7: It wasn't fun when I had to talk about Jada Pinkett.
- 4:49Speaker 7: But it was the news, and I thought that it
- 4:51Speaker 7: was important to touch on those things to provide a perspective,
- 4:53Speaker 7: because I'm not out here trying to insult or character
- 4:57Speaker 7: assassinate anybody. But it's important that when some body does
- 5:00Speaker 7: something wrong, including myself, that we're willing to highlight and
- 5:03Speaker 7: point out what you did wrong.
- 5:05Speaker 5: There.
- 5:06Speaker 7: I think that a lot of times in our society
- 5:08Speaker 7: what makes us very very cruel, And I would say
- 5:12Speaker 7: irresponsible is when we use any little thing as a
- 5:16Speaker 7: means to character assassinate somebody. You make a mistake, and
- 5:20Speaker 7: that's who you are. You make a mistake, that's who
- 5:22Speaker 7: you are. Know it isn't it's what you did in
- 5:24Speaker 7: this particular instance. So what you made that mistake, somebody
- 5:28Speaker 7: points it out. Tomorrow, do you do something good, and
- 5:31Speaker 7: we'll point that out. And that's what I try to
- 5:33Speaker 7: do because as a journalist, as a personality, as somebody
- 5:36Speaker 7: that's been in media for the last thirty years, I
- 5:40Speaker 7: know the responsibility that I have and one of the
- 5:42Speaker 7: biggest responsibilities that I have is to be fair and
- 5:45Speaker 7: to make sure that what you do and your worst
- 5:48Speaker 7: possible moment doesn't define who you are. And a lot
- 5:51Speaker 7: of times you have people, particularly in the world of politics, well,
- 5:55Speaker 7: if you're black and you're talking about somebody that's a Republican,
- 5:58Speaker 7: well they must be a racist. No they're not. That's wrong.
- 6:01Speaker 7: Don't do that. You know you disagree with them when
- 6:03Speaker 7: this issue attack that issue.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Well, now, if there's a there's no nuance you're there's
- 6:08Speaker 3: a body of.
- 6:08Speaker 7: Work that is indicative of what you are, then that's different.
- 6:12Speaker 7: But on a case by case basis, and the same
- 6:15Speaker 7: thing with you know on the liberal side. You know
- 6:17Speaker 7: when conservatives say certain things, I'm not about that. It's
- 6:20Speaker 7: about Okay, today, this is what the story is. Tomorrow
- 6:23Speaker 7: it might be something else. Next week it might be
- 6:25Speaker 7: something else. Let's go on a case by case basis
- 6:27Speaker 7: because we can all. I think we all find out
- 6:29Speaker 7: we got common ground and we'll get far more of
- 6:33Speaker 7: us would get along than people realize. I truly believe that.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Right.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Three final things Olympics. First, the twenty twenty four basketball team.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Do you feel like they did what they went out
- 6:43Speaker 1: to do? Serbia game is obviously pretty close? Did you
- 6:45Speaker 1: expect there to be close games? And then secondly, what's
- 6:48Speaker 1: who's the twenty twenty eighteen.
- 6:50Speaker 7: I expected the games to be relatively close. I didn't
- 6:54Speaker 7: expect it to be the nail biden that it was
- 6:55Speaker 7: against Serbia. I didn't expect them to struggle against France
- 6:59Speaker 7: to way that they did. And then Steph Curry exploded
- 7:02Speaker 7: in both games. I expected Steph Curry to look better
- 7:05Speaker 7: rian to the semifinals in a gold medal game, but
- 7:08Speaker 7: that didn't happen. I expected Jason Tatum to play more
- 7:11Speaker 7: that didn't happen. There were a couple of things that
- 7:14Speaker 7: you could look at, but overall bottom line is USA
- 7:17Speaker 7: went to France to win a gold medal, and they
- 7:19Speaker 7: brought home the gold medal. So they did their thing.
- 7:21Speaker 7: As it retains to twenty twenty eight. You won't see
- 7:25Speaker 7: Lebron there. You probably won't see KD there, you won't
- 7:28Speaker 7: see Steph there. But I do think you'll see Anthony Edwards.
- 7:32Speaker 7: I do think you'll see Tatum. I think yeah, because
- 7:36Speaker 7: I don't think Steve curR be coaching in twenty twenty eight.
- 7:38Speaker 7: I don't think he'd be coaching the team. I don't
- 7:40Speaker 7: think Jason Tatum is going to if Steve Curr's coaching,
- 7:43Speaker 7: and I wouldn't blame him after that experience to be
- 7:45Speaker 7: quite interested, because I don't listen. Steve Kerr is one
- 7:48Speaker 7: of the great great coaches this game has ever seen.
- 7:51Speaker 7: But there's no excuse in hell that you can walk
- 7:53Speaker 7: up to Jason Tatum before a game and say, I
- 7:58Speaker 7: might I might not have time to play you today.
- 8:00Speaker 7: He is one of the greatest players in the world
- 8:01Speaker 7: and a reigning defending NBA champion who's been a first
- 8:04Speaker 7: team All NBA player. The last three years. And by
- 8:06Speaker 7: the way, two guys and Drew Holliday and Derek White
- 8:09Speaker 7: who deferred to him for eighty two games during the
- 8:12Speaker 7: regular season. In the postseason, you finding Tom for them,
- 8:14Speaker 7: but not him. Jason Tatum could play four different positions
- 8:17Speaker 7: on the basketball court. How do you excuse not finding
- 8:20Speaker 7: Tom for him? And that's why he looks so bad
- 8:23Speaker 7: when you did put him in because he never knew
- 8:25Speaker 7: when he was gonna play, and he couldn't catch any
- 8:27Speaker 7: rhythm or anything like that. So I look at it
- 8:29Speaker 7: from that standpoint, but it is what it is. At
- 8:31Speaker 7: the end of the day, they came home with the
- 8:32Speaker 7: golden That's what matters most.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Last question is Steven A.
- 8:35Speaker 5: Smith.
- 8:35Speaker 6: You talk about getting along and all of us getting along.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I want to talk about my Dallas Cowboys.
- 8:42Speaker 7: I want truth.
- 8:44Speaker 3: I want the truth, Stephen A.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Smith.
- 8:46Speaker 6: I want the real, honest opinion of my Dallas Cowboys.
- 8:49Speaker 4: This season.
- 8:50Speaker 5: They're gonna suck this year.
- 8:53Speaker 7: I don't think they're gonna I think they're gonna have
- 8:55Speaker 7: a tough time making the playoffs. And I think even
- 8:58Speaker 7: if they do make the playoffs, they gonna go home
- 8:59Speaker 7: ear like they always do. You got Mike McCarthy there.
- 9:03Speaker 7: I think this will probably be his last year coaching.
- 9:05Speaker 7: It would is surprised I think that Dak Prescott is
- 9:07Speaker 7: gonna get resigned. I don't think he deserves sixty million.
- 9:10Speaker 7: I don't think when you've been a quarterback for eight
- 9:12Speaker 7: years and you got two playoff victories to show for it,
- 9:14Speaker 7: that you deserve sixty million dollars. I just don't believe that.
- 9:18Speaker 7: I'm talking about sixty million per year. I don't believe that.
- 9:21Speaker 7: But Jerry Jones will probably end up having to pay
- 9:23Speaker 7: him anyway. And I think that in a hard cap
- 9:25Speaker 7: league that is the National Football League, I think one
- 9:28Speaker 7: of the changes that needs to take place is that
- 9:31Speaker 7: we need to find see NFL teams become more sticklers
- 9:36Speaker 7: for giving quarterbacks this kind of money because the money
- 9:39Speaker 7: that you give them court you and prevents you from
- 9:41Speaker 7: giving others money. And there's other people that deserve some
- 9:44Speaker 7: of that cash. You know, listen to quarterback is the
- 9:47Speaker 7: most important position. But the caveat that we've got to
- 9:50Speaker 7: add to it is that if you produce, if you
- 9:52Speaker 7: don't listen, there's a lot of quarterbacks that can get
- 9:56Speaker 7: half of Dak Prescott's dollars and still win two playoff
- 9:59Speaker 7: games in eight years. And so I look at it
- 10:01Speaker 7: from that standpoint, and I'm about production. You got to
- 10:05Speaker 7: be able to produce and get it done. And if
- 10:07Speaker 7: you don't get it done, I'm not saying you deserve
- 10:08Speaker 7: to be broke. I'm not saying that you don't deserve
- 10:11Speaker 7: to be in the league. I'm not saying you don't
- 10:12Speaker 7: deserve to be paid. But we don't need to be
- 10:15Speaker 7: spending that an ordinate amount of money on quarterbacks that
- 10:18Speaker 7: don't know how to win in January. We don't need
- 10:21Speaker 7: to be doing that.
- 10:22Speaker 1: It's like it's like the paulpe they're cheering out there
- 10:24Speaker 1: all right here.
- 10:24Speaker 3: That Steven A. Smith Show on iHeartRadio.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Also the by the way, Congress New York has bestseller Thanks,

- 10:32Speaker 1: of Second Chances, the first six Big Fan, Appreciate you
- 10:34Speaker 1: doing appreciated else?
- 10:36Speaker 3: Steven A. Smith, Everybody, all right?
- 10:39Speaker 1: The cool thing about to pick six is the payouts.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Like you've picked between two and six players, right, So
- 10:45Speaker 1: let's say you pick three players and each player you're
- 10:49Speaker 1: picking you go over or under a specific stat and
- 10:52Speaker 1: that stat can be touchdowns or catches, or you'll be like,
- 10:54Speaker 1: I Betty goes over eight catches this game, Well that's
- 10:57Speaker 1: a lot of catches. I would say probably under for
- 10:59Speaker 1: most catches if it's if it's eight. But that's what
- 11:01Speaker 1: you do in the DraftKings Pick six app. It's very simple,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and it feels so simple that I feel like I'm
- 11:07Speaker 1: gonna make a ton of money. But that's usually how
- 11:09Speaker 1: I end up losing because I think it's too simple.

- 11:53Speaker 8: Here is Super Bowl forty three champion Ryan Clark from
- 11:56Speaker 8: when we were at Fanatics Fest as well. Ryan played
- 11:59Speaker 8: thirteen seasons in the NFL as a safety, was known
- 12:01Speaker 8: for his hard hitting style of play that probably wouldn't
- 12:04Speaker 8: last nowadays. He's one of the biggest faces of ESPN
- 12:07Speaker 8: now when it comes to NFL analysis and big thanks
- 12:10Speaker 8: to Ryan.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Coming on.
- 12:11Speaker 8: Here is Ryan Clark too, too.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Too, Ryan yours?
- 12:17Speaker 5: Can I sing?
- 12:17Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 12:18Speaker 5: You want me to say?
- 12:19Speaker 3: The question is can you like? Will you?
- 12:21Speaker 5: But I absolutely cannot?
- 12:23Speaker 3: But I will, Okay, Ryan?
- 12:24Speaker 4: I did have a question about that though.
- 12:27Speaker 6: What's the one song you know every word too?
- 12:31Speaker 9: I know every word to a lot of songs, but
- 12:34Speaker 9: my go to karaoke is the Cheers theme song?
- 12:39Speaker 3: Wa who karaoke? Who even has that in the machine?
- 12:42Speaker 5: I don't think I don't. I actually don't think people do.
- 12:45Speaker 5: I just know about heart.
- 12:46Speaker 3: You just go singing a cappella listen.
- 12:49Speaker 9: I can't saying no way, So it don't matter if
- 12:51Speaker 9: they got their music or not, but it does it makes.
- 12:54Speaker 5: People feel welcome.
- 12:56Speaker 3: I agree with that.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Yeah, it was just that's like you know, you say
- 13:00Speaker 1: karaoke song, I get up and sing Yankee Doodle and
- 13:02Speaker 1: you're like, that's in karaoke, like anybody knows it, but
- 13:05Speaker 1: you know.
- 13:05Speaker 5: But right, so what's the key to karaoke?
- 13:08Speaker 9: Have a singing but singing a song that at some
- 13:11Speaker 9: point everyone can join in or people of our era,
- 13:15Speaker 9: the young kids obviously they don't, but anybody our age.
- 13:18Speaker 9: Once you get to where everybody knows, everybody knows that
- 13:23Speaker 9: part and they sing with you, and now you don't
- 13:25Speaker 9: sound as terrible as.
- 13:26Speaker 1: You did, bef when they sing with you. You don't
- 13:28Speaker 1: sound as terrible when.
- 13:29Speaker 5: They sing with you when you're singing by yourself.
- 13:31Speaker 1: You still okay, let me ask you about people thinking
- 13:34Speaker 1: you are suck or are awesome? Okay, Now that you
- 13:37Speaker 1: are having opinions publicly a lot of the time of media, right,
- 13:41Speaker 1: you have a lot to say. That's different because if
- 13:44Speaker 1: people don't agree, but you can go viral for many
- 13:45Speaker 1: reasons now but based on your opinions, Yeah, different than
- 13:48Speaker 1: when you played, especially how because when you played well,
- 13:51Speaker 1: social media wasn't as in your face. Yeah, but now
- 13:55Speaker 1: if you say something that you have a hot take
- 13:58Speaker 1: that people will let you know, how is that Ben
- 14:00Speaker 1: Haws that adjustment been to everybody having a voice.
- 14:02Speaker 9: You know what, I think everybody having a voice is cool.
- 14:06Speaker 9: I mean, I think that's what our country wants and
- 14:10Speaker 9: wants to give people the ability to have. And also
- 14:15Speaker 9: it's also something I think if people are entitled to
- 14:18Speaker 9: based on our freedoms and rights. Now, as far as
- 14:21Speaker 9: the criticism, the criticism is something you allow. If I
- 14:25Speaker 9: don't want people to hear me, I could just shut
- 14:28Speaker 9: the hell up or block them.
- 14:29Speaker 5: But it's not even that right because here's the thing.
- 14:32Speaker 9: Because of my jobs, I'm gonna talk, right, I'm gonna
- 14:35Speaker 9: answer questions, like my job is to get my opinion.
- 14:38Speaker 5: It's a lot of times I'm not the one.
- 14:40Speaker 9: Putting it out there on social media, or I don't
- 14:43Speaker 9: expect it to be on social media, and somebody that
- 14:45Speaker 9: doesn't like it or that likes it clips it like
- 14:48Speaker 9: it is what it is. The biggest part is being
- 14:49Speaker 9: authentic to yourself, Like you can't tell me something about
- 14:53Speaker 9: me that's true that I don't know, right, you can't
- 14:56Speaker 9: tell me that I think this or feel this if
- 14:59Speaker 9: I don't, and so to me, the opinions of the
- 15:02Speaker 9: people who are outside who hear what I say or
- 15:05Speaker 9: see me do something. They don't really matter to me
- 15:07Speaker 9: because I'm only doing or saying what I want to do.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Anyway, Yeah, I just block them. That's really good. I
- 15:13Speaker 1: like what you say. It's a lot of integrity in
- 15:15Speaker 1: that You're strong. I just block them.
- 15:17Speaker 5: I only block people to protect them from me.
- 15:22Speaker 9: Oh like, so if somebody says something to me that
- 15:26Speaker 9: makes me want to be too honest with them, right,
- 15:29Speaker 9: because like I'm sort of like, I just want to
- 15:31Speaker 9: go look at your profile pick or I want to
- 15:34Speaker 9: go look at the other things you tweet.
- 15:36Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying.
- 15:37Speaker 9: It's like you, if you have any deficiencies that are
- 15:42Speaker 9: visible through your words or your profile picture, I'm.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Gonna kill you now I'm talking.
- 15:47Speaker 9: And so I've gotten to the point now though, where
- 15:51Speaker 9: that's bullying, right or.
- 15:53Speaker 5: I'm punching down.
- 15:54Speaker 9: And so if I get that feeling like I want
- 15:57Speaker 9: to flame you, those are the people I block.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Opinions on Let's go number one the Dallas Cowboys this season.
- 16:05Speaker 5: Oh they're gonna suck.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, why why this time?
- 16:12Speaker 5: But the thing is, though, so here's what's funny.
- 16:15Speaker 9: The Dallas Cowboys have won twelve games the last three years,
- 16:19Speaker 9: and no matter what we want to say about their
- 16:21Speaker 9: playoff performances, the team hasn't sucked. The Dallas Cowboys haven't
- 16:26Speaker 9: been a bad football team. At the end, there's a
- 16:28Speaker 9: possibility this could be a bad football team. There's a
- 16:31Speaker 9: possibility that this team won't make the playoffs, that teams
- 16:35Speaker 9: like the Washington Commanders and New York Giants will be
- 16:38Speaker 9: more on their level than they ever have been. Dak
- 16:41Speaker 9: Prescott is talking about working on a deal. You lose
- 16:44Speaker 9: dan Quinn, your defense coordinator, and your entire roster was
- 16:47Speaker 9: built around what dan Quinn wants to do. You don't
- 16:50Speaker 9: add another piece outside of Jake Ferguson. And so I
- 16:53Speaker 9: do think you put this this squad who is either
- 16:58Speaker 9: praised too highly they win or to me criticized too
- 17:02Speaker 9: harshly when they lose. You put this team that's in
- 17:04Speaker 9: the spotlight in a worse position because you haven't worked
- 17:08Speaker 9: to make it better.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Next up, Caleb Williams and what he is walking into
- 17:12Speaker 1: in Chicago with that roster.
- 17:14Speaker 9: The best position we've seen a rookie quarterback or number
- 17:18Speaker 9: one overall pick walk into in the history of football,
- 17:22Speaker 9: I think the only thing close to it would probably
- 17:24Speaker 9: be Andrew Luck and that's because Peyton Manning was hurt
- 17:27Speaker 9: the year before, which gave them that pick.
- 17:30Speaker 5: We have to remember Chicago used Carolina's pick.
- 17:33Speaker 9: Who could really use another number one pick to get
- 17:36Speaker 9: the number one overall pick after playing better toward the
- 17:38Speaker 9: end of the season building around him in the offseason.
- 17:42Speaker 9: As far as GM Ryan Poles and his vision for
- 17:44Speaker 9: some of the skilled players Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, DeAndre Swift,
- 17:50Speaker 9: Roma Dunze, drafted Cole Comet at the tight end position,
- 17:53Speaker 9: I think he has an opportunity to.
- 17:54Speaker 5: Have a really good year.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Any chance that JJ McCarthy injury could actually be a
- 17:59Speaker 1: blessing in disguise.
- 18:03Speaker 9: I mean, I think there's a chance we could see
- 18:05Speaker 9: it that way, but I don't know if it is right. Like,
- 18:09Speaker 9: if JJ McCarthy is really good year two on, are
- 18:13Speaker 9: we gonna sit here and say he's really good because
- 18:15Speaker 9: he didn't play last year? Or is the optimist and
- 18:19Speaker 9: knee or the pessimists, I don't know which one it
- 18:21Speaker 9: to be gonna say, Hell, he would have been good
- 18:23Speaker 9: as a rookie. Imagine what he could be had he
- 18:26Speaker 9: had that year of experience. But I do think the
- 18:29Speaker 9: caution in which they are handling his injury is a blessing, saying, hey.
- 18:35Speaker 5: Look, kid, take the year off, let's get healthy.
- 18:37Speaker 9: Let's find a way for you to be back and
- 18:39Speaker 9: better next offseason when you could play with one of
- 18:42Speaker 9: the best wide receivers of football.
- 18:44Speaker 3: How real is CJ. Stroud?
- 18:46Speaker 5: The realist? Absolute realist. I think I separate Patrick Mahomes
- 18:52Speaker 5: from all quarterbacks.
- 18:53Speaker 9: I think he's the nominally right, Patrick Mahomes is Michael Jordan,
- 18:57Speaker 9: like you should compare all the other players in Michael
- 18:59Speaker 9: Jordan's eara outside of Michael Jordan.
- 19:02Speaker 5: Patrick Mahomes is that. I think CJ.
- 19:04Speaker 9: Stroud has an opportunity to win the MVP this year
- 19:06Speaker 9: being the AFC Championship and sort of start a legacy
- 19:11Speaker 9: in Houston like none we've ever seen, and which is
- 19:15Speaker 9: what has been a very dysfunctional organization.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Josh Allen with no wide receivers.
- 19:21Speaker 5: Still a bad mother effer though, Josh Allen man.
- 19:24Speaker 9: I think Josh Allen is so talented, I think he's
- 19:27Speaker 9: so tough, but I also believe he needs to help.
- 19:31Speaker 9: I think Josh Allen needs great players around him to
- 19:34Speaker 9: protect him from himself, from forcing the ball into coverage,
- 19:38Speaker 9: from trying to run the football too much, from trying
- 19:40Speaker 9: to do too many things. And I think not to
- 19:42Speaker 9: mention now defensively, Jordan Poyer is no longer there, Tredavis White,
- 19:49Speaker 9: who had been injured, is no longer there.
- 19:50Speaker 5: Matt Malano to me, who is their best player?
- 19:53Speaker 9: Toyers is pectorial like this team is so just sort
- 19:57Speaker 9: of at a deficit from a roster standpoint, I ain't
- 20:00Speaker 9: compared to what they've been in years past. I think
- 20:02Speaker 9: he'll struggle this year, not only with production, but with
- 20:07Speaker 9: keeping himself from putting the team in bad position trying
- 20:10Speaker 9: to do too much with all that talent.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Jordan Love got paid. Yeah, who's his number one guy?
- 20:18Speaker 9: I mean, I think it all depends on how you
- 20:19Speaker 9: look at it. Romeo Dobbs would probably be my first answer.
- 20:23Speaker 9: I think D'artavian Wicks is probably the most talented of
- 20:28Speaker 9: the group. And I think somehow because maybe he's gotten money,
- 20:32Speaker 9: or because we're trying to focused on who the number
- 20:34Speaker 9: one guy is in a group of wide receivers where
- 20:37Speaker 9: they don't really need a number one. We watched them
- 20:40Speaker 9: play last year, and it's sort of like, throw the
- 20:42Speaker 9: ball to the open guy.
- 20:43Speaker 5: What a novel idea. Oh my gosh, he has the
- 20:47Speaker 5: best matchup, he's wide ass open. Throw him the ball.
- 20:51Speaker 9: Whereas we see so many times with these number one dudes,
- 20:54Speaker 9: you get one hundred and eighty targets and forty of
- 20:56Speaker 9: them are bad targets because we expect you to win.
- 20:58Speaker 5: I think that team would be good.
- 21:00Speaker 9: But also adding Josh Jacobs and Matt Lafleur, finally getting
- 21:04Speaker 9: to run the offense he wants to run, not the
- 21:07Speaker 9: one Aaron Rodgers okays.
- 21:09Speaker 5: Is kind of what we saw the last half of
- 21:10Speaker 5: the season.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Final question when it comes to the NFL this coming season,
- 21:17Speaker 1: like we're seeing a lot of things different, most visually
- 21:20Speaker 1: is the kickoff role. Is this gonna be normal in
- 21:23Speaker 1: like three weeks?
- 21:24Speaker 3: This always gonna look weird?
- 21:25Speaker 5: Does It's always going to look weird to people like us?
- 21:28Speaker 9: But I do think it will get normal and we
- 21:32Speaker 9: will want to normalize it when the play is no
- 21:35Speaker 9: longer ceremonial. Right, think about it, We've all waited for
- 21:39Speaker 9: the Super Bowl. We're fired up, and damn Harrison, Butcker
- 21:43Speaker 9: kicks it eight yards and end zone, the.
- 21:45Speaker 5: Dude takes you know what I mean, Like, that's what
- 21:48Speaker 5: it was. It was a time for.
- 21:49Speaker 9: Us to all stand up, snap pitchers or go get snacks.
- 21:53Speaker 9: Whereas I think now, because there's ways to gain advantages
- 21:57Speaker 9: if you're the kicking team as well also ways schematically
- 22:00Speaker 9: to win in the dynamic kickoff if you're the return team,
- 22:04Speaker 9: we'll see more.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Exciting place not the final question at the bonus question,
- 22:08Speaker 1: is Dak worth sixty million dollars?
- 22:11Speaker 5: You're worth what they pay you?
- 22:12Speaker 3: Well, Dak gets sixty million dollars close.
- 22:14Speaker 5: Too, for sure. Yeah, here's my thing.
- 22:18Speaker 9: If he does it now, No, they're talking about this
- 22:20Speaker 9: deal getting done.
- 22:23Speaker 5: He said it could be done.
- 22:24Speaker 9: He wants it done before the season, and he says
- 22:26Speaker 9: the talks are going well as close as it's ever been.
- 22:30Speaker 5: I would only do that if I'm Jerry Jones.
- 22:32Speaker 9: Is if I can get him to sign for what
- 22:35Speaker 9: we're seeing Jordan Love and what Trevor Lawrence and those.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Guys like high fifty five fifty Yeah, yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 9: Because but if I wait, then yes, but if you
- 22:44Speaker 9: sign now, no, you got to sign the deals these
- 22:46Speaker 9: other dudes signed.
- 22:47Speaker 5: What makes you worth sixty million When I'm competing.
- 22:50Speaker 1: With myself, that he's just the latest dump.
- 22:52Speaker 9: I mean, yeah, but that's that's such a huge joke though, right, Like,
- 22:57Speaker 9: I mean, I don't know.
- 22:58Speaker 5: Maybe you think Dak's better than Joe Burrow. I don't.
- 23:00Speaker 3: I don't either.
- 23:01Speaker 1: He does play though, Yeah, he's available for sure.
- 23:05Speaker 9: But my point is I don't even like the Cowboys soot.
- 23:09Speaker 9: If I'm negotiating the contract, that's what I say, Like,
- 23:12Speaker 9: you're signing this deal now, the going rate is fifty five,
- 23:15Speaker 9: You're gonna take fifty five if not, if I don't
- 23:18Speaker 9: give a little to give you fifty.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Six, big fans appreciate you, man, Thank you so much,
- 23:23Speaker 1: you guys, sir. He's a former NFL linebacker. It's Channing Crowder.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Channing played his entire career with the Dolphins. Now is
- 23:31Speaker 1: a podcast with Fred Taylor and Ryan Clark called The
- 23:33Speaker 1: Pivot Podcast, which is really good. Here he is Channing Crowder.
- 23:37Speaker 1: So we were just talking to Fred and Fred said
- 23:40Speaker 1: that you say wild stuff.
- 23:43Speaker 3: He's crazy. He said, you're the crazy one.
- 23:45Speaker 4: I do have a good time with life.
- 23:48Speaker 1: What were you like as a kid, Damn, Yeah.
- 23:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I have some questions. Oh I was always wild
- 23:57Speaker 4: interceeding single mom. You know what I'm saying, Like, yeah,
- 24:01Speaker 4: so you had to you know what I'm saying. It
- 24:03Speaker 4: was it was always a struggle. It was always you
- 24:07Speaker 4: had to make it a you know, like almost crap
- 24:11Speaker 4: or get off the pot.
- 24:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 24:12Speaker 4: And so that's where life was for me. So I
- 24:15Speaker 4: always wanted to lighten everybody's life, and I think that's
- 24:18Speaker 4: what built my personality. Was just every time I'm around somebody,
- 24:22Speaker 4: I want you to leave the room in a better
- 24:24Speaker 4: mental place than you walked in the room. If you're
- 24:26Speaker 4: around me.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Okay, well what if you're on the field.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Obviously you're running the defense and middle linebacker.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Did you talk a lot across the line?
- 24:32Speaker 4: Oh? I talked to everybody cause it wasn't it really?
- 24:35Speaker 4: And I've told my story. I can tell you all
- 24:37Speaker 4: a bunch of stories. I talked trash for me and
- 24:40Speaker 4: my teammates more than to hurt or feel.
- 24:42Speaker 3: It wasn't so much at them. It was mostly for you.
- 24:45Speaker 4: It was a blind like I didn't see people's faces
- 24:48Speaker 4: when I played. I just saw a blank. It's you're
- 24:51Speaker 4: trying to my coach tells me to get here. Your
- 24:54Speaker 4: coach tells me, tells you not to let me get there.
- 24:58Speaker 4: So it was a blank slate.
- 24:59Speaker 3: But the the.
- 25:03Speaker 4: Antics of it was to hurt your feelings. Why I
- 25:06Speaker 4: got there, and it was just fun and it happened
- 25:10Speaker 4: a lot of times. And I have a bunch of
- 25:11Speaker 4: stories about guys I really got to and guys I
- 25:14Speaker 4: couldn't get to, Like.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Could you not crack?
- 25:19Speaker 4: I couldn't crack johnasthan Ogden. I was talking trash to Jo,
- 25:24Speaker 4: But how do you know you couldn't crack them? Because
- 25:27Speaker 4: they laughed like he'd be like, and people would hear
- 25:29Speaker 4: they'd be like, hey, they told me about you ray
- 25:31Speaker 4: Rice when he was with it. And I know all
- 25:33Speaker 4: the crap that happened with ray Rice, and we won't
- 25:37Speaker 4: get into that. But there was guys that, like I
- 25:39Speaker 4: used to try to get to and they look over
- 25:41Speaker 4: and you'd see when I called your mom, you know
- 25:45Speaker 4: your mom has herpes or your sister as simphilist and
- 25:49Speaker 4: I would see it and they look at me and
- 25:51Speaker 4: then they kind of smiled like, oh no, dudes, told
- 25:54Speaker 4: me you're gonna say this and you're gonna try to
- 25:56Speaker 4: hurt my feelings, so I'm not gonna let you. So
- 25:58Speaker 4: then at that point, it was just fun. Now it's
- 26:00Speaker 4: just it's just it's just the chess match of football.
- 26:04Speaker 4: But yeah, I love I just love the interaction between people.
- 26:08Speaker 4: I love the back and forth between people. And if
- 26:10Speaker 4: you're going against me, I'm gonna try to hurt your
- 26:13Speaker 4: feelings and see if I can get to you.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I have a question regarding what we hear today about
- 26:17Speaker 1: the Dolphins, if just Florida in general. With you playing
- 26:19Speaker 1: college ball floor, you wrote just Florida guy, right.
- 26:21Speaker 4: Yeah, guy, Yes, I'm from Atlanta, but I went to
- 26:23Speaker 4: UF and then stayed out. Florida Dolphins. Yeah, I live
- 26:26Speaker 4: on I'll never leave Miami. I'm gonna live in Miami
- 26:27Speaker 4: the rest of my life.
- 26:28Speaker 1: So here's my question about you. The perfect guy for
- 26:30Speaker 1: this conversation. Athletes like a Tua or anybody with the
- 26:35Speaker 1: Dolphins and it gets cold, it's they can't play in cold.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Is that a real thing or is that a media thing.
- 26:41Speaker 4: It's a real thing. It's a real thing. Early in
- 26:44Speaker 4: the season two thousand and five six, the Denver Broncos,
- 26:49Speaker 4: like were twelve and four. They went to the playoffs.
- 26:52Speaker 4: We beat the hell out of in Miami because they
- 26:53Speaker 4: came down to Miami. They couldn't play in one hundred
- 26:55Speaker 4: degrees weather with all the humidity. And even last year
- 26:58Speaker 4: you saw toua as soon as they I knew they
- 27:01Speaker 4: were going to Kansas City and it was gonna be
- 27:03Speaker 4: brutally eight degrees. I'm like, these dudes have never played
- 27:06Speaker 4: in this. They can't play at the top level, especially
- 27:09Speaker 4: how Mike McDaniel's offense is, that spread offense and that
- 27:12Speaker 4: timing stuff with all the speed guys a four to
- 27:16Speaker 4: three guy and eight degrees runs a four to five.
- 27:19Speaker 4: So these no safety can sit with them. So it
- 27:21Speaker 4: does to your question, it does. It does mean something,
- 27:24Speaker 4: and that's what the Dolphins have to overcome. The Dolphins
- 27:28Speaker 4: are gonna win ten, eleven, twelve games this year. They're
- 27:31Speaker 4: gonna be at the worst ten and seven. They're gonna
- 27:34Speaker 4: get to the playoffs. They're gonna have to play the Ravens,
- 27:37Speaker 4: the Steelers, the Bengals, the the Chargers, the Chiefs. They're
- 27:42Speaker 4: gonna have to play. The AFC has loaded, Uh, don't
- 27:44Speaker 4: sleep on Shane Stikeen and three Richards and the Colts,
- 27:48Speaker 4: don't sleep on Trevor Lawns and them. With that, the
- 27:51Speaker 4: AFC is loaded right now, the Dolphins are gonna whoop
- 27:54Speaker 4: a bunch of ass in the regular season, like we've
- 27:57Speaker 4: seen for the last three years. They're gonna get to
- 27:59Speaker 4: December in January and have to beat up on a
- 28:02Speaker 4: very good team in the AFC. And that's what it's
- 28:04Speaker 4: gonna be.
- 28:05Speaker 1: But then, what can you do to make sure that
- 28:07Speaker 1: whenever you go to the cold, you don't freeze like
- 28:10Speaker 1: practice train in the cold. It's like when you guys
- 28:14Speaker 1: would turn the volume up, like if you're going somewhere loud.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Because if that's the case, how do you acclimate yourself
- 28:21Speaker 1: by being involved?
- 28:23Speaker 4: You can't really acclimate yourself. You have to figure out
- 28:25Speaker 4: a way to play in that. And that's my one
- 28:27Speaker 4: thing about the Dolphins that I tell people, and that
- 28:29Speaker 4: I've even knowing Mike McDaniel. Like Mike McDaniel's been on
- 28:32Speaker 4: our podcast. I've talked with him. I'm cool with him.
- 28:34Speaker 4: I'm in South Florida. I actually I'm working on getting
- 28:38Speaker 4: a opening a restaurant in hard Rock Stadium, like I'm
- 28:41Speaker 4: always down there. I want to see a team that
- 28:44Speaker 4: can load up in a I formation and run the
- 28:48Speaker 4: ball straight down somebody's throat, because if you think about it.
- 28:50Speaker 4: The Chiefs can do it with Protecco, that physical style
- 28:53Speaker 4: of football, because he runs, he runs, asks what people
- 28:56Speaker 4: do in the playoffs. The Ravens are already set up
- 28:58Speaker 4: that way. Mike, Mike Tomlin a good friend of mine.
- 29:02Speaker 4: Every time we have this conversation, he laughs because he
- 29:04Speaker 4: knows that you're gonna have to at some point to
- 29:07Speaker 4: win a Super Bowl be able to load up and
- 29:09Speaker 4: just physically whoop somebody's ass. A weather thing like it's it,
- 29:13Speaker 4: but it is a weather thing because it works better
- 29:18Speaker 4: in that weather because you can't go out there and
- 29:20Speaker 4: be glitzy and glamour and all that stuff and motioning
- 29:23Speaker 4: and spreading the offense and bringing it back in and
- 29:26Speaker 4: all the stuff that And it's a lot of people.
- 29:28Speaker 4: Sean McVay does it. I love Sean McVay. Uh Raheem
- 29:33Speaker 4: Morris in Atlanta. It's this new it's a new coaching
- 29:37Speaker 4: tree that's going on right now because it's McDaniel, it's
- 29:40Speaker 4: Kyle Shanahan, it's McVeigh, it's all these young coaches that
- 29:44Speaker 4: are coming at Shane Stichen and the coach it's this new,
- 29:47Speaker 4: this new that old Belichick parcels tree of the three
- 29:51Speaker 4: four defense. It's not working anymore. It's not what the
- 29:55Speaker 4: league is. So they have to have this these new
- 29:57Speaker 4: young guys. But the guys that can low up and
- 30:00Speaker 4: physically just whooped somebody's butt in the line of scrimmage
- 30:04Speaker 4: is the ones that are gonna be able to do
- 30:06Speaker 4: it at a championship level. The Dolphins last year number
- 30:10Speaker 4: one offense to a led the league in passing yards.
- 30:13Speaker 4: They're gonna be able to do that. At some point.
- 30:16Speaker 4: You gotta be able to load up and beat somebody's tail.
- 30:20Speaker 4: Then that's that's the thing that great teams can do.
- 30:22Speaker 4: And that's why Mike Tomlin with the Steelers at any
- 30:25Speaker 4: year they're gonna win double digit games because of the
- 30:28Speaker 4: fact that he can load up and say, you know what,
- 30:31Speaker 4: my man back here, this big, big tailback he can
- 30:34Speaker 4: run down, He'll he'll get your eight yards of pop.
- 30:37Speaker 4: And that's what it becomes.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Then follow this logic then for the Dolphins.
- 30:40Speaker 3: I just think about the Dolphins too.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Everybody uses as the example who can't win any cold
- 30:44Speaker 1: so they need to. In the AFC East, they need
- 30:46Speaker 1: to win every game early loose. The Patriots gonna suck.
- 30:50Speaker 1: They may even go and be cold home and beat
- 30:51Speaker 1: the Patriots, and then they need to have hometel advantage
- 30:53Speaker 1: for the entire playoffs, and obviously the Super Bowl is
- 30:56Speaker 1: gonna be mostly somewhere warmer indoors.
- 30:59Speaker 3: That's their ticket.
- 31:01Speaker 1: When a bunch early lose a couple of cold wins
- 31:03Speaker 1: end of the season and then have home built the
- 31:04Speaker 1: whole time, that's about the probably the only way they

- 34:42Speaker 1: team for a while, and we would get beat seventy
- 34:45Speaker 1: to nothing, and that was hard, very hard. It's harder
- 34:47Speaker 1: when there's nothing to talk about.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Yeah, get it pounded, because.
- 34:49Speaker 1: You have to entertain them, right, It's just it's just
- 34:50Speaker 1: what do you do right, And not only that. On
- 34:53Speaker 1: the road when I would travel, they couldn't afford it
- 34:56Speaker 1: that color.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Guys, so I had to do both.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Oh man, But it's a also there were four people listening.
- 35:01Speaker 2: But it was difficult. It's a difficult job. Your brother
- 35:05Speaker 2: in law thinks he can do it.
- 35:06Speaker 6: Yes, he like every time I watch games with him,
- 35:08Speaker 6: he's like, look, what's so hard about it? You just
- 35:11Speaker 6: say what happened? Then you make a little joke about it.
- 35:13Speaker 6: And he said, look right now, they're gonna lose five yards,
- 35:15Speaker 6: it's gonna get sex, and it happens. He goes, they
- 35:18Speaker 6: told you that, buddy, Relax, it's hard. It's easy to
- 35:22Speaker 6: do it for five minutes. I bet a couple of minutes,
- 35:24Speaker 6: but you can do it for a whole game. Get
- 35:26Speaker 6: out of here.
- 35:26Speaker 5: It's tough.
- 35:28Speaker 1: It would be like someone Eddie going, Eddie, what you
- 35:31Speaker 1: do every single day?
- 35:32Speaker 2: There's nothing to it. Your job is so easy. Yeah,
- 35:34Speaker 2: you just talk to a microphone. You're talking to microphone exactly,

- 35:41Speaker 5: You think Tom Brady's gonna be good.
- 35:42Speaker 1: Yeah, he's gonna put the work in. No you have
- 35:44Speaker 1: a boner over him. But well, I'm saying I think
- 35:47Speaker 1: he'll put the work in to actually be good more
- 35:51Speaker 1: than anything he's shown has. I've watched him do some interviews.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I don't think he's shown me anything that he's gonna
- 35:55Speaker 1: be wow. But I think he'll put the work in
- 35:57Speaker 1: actually be really great. But same thing with Romo. Romo
- 36:00Speaker 1: never did anything really in media except the Sketcher's commercial.
- 36:03Speaker 5: Why Like, dang, he's gonna be good.
