- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friends, yes, I am somewhere on Kilimanjaro right now, and I am recording this before, I leave.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: My wife said to me, just now, you don't want everyone to know when you're traveling.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, exactly when you're traveling and I said, well, I'm not super worried.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we have two strapping, strong, young men living at home right now, and our closest next door neighbor is the chief of police.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: Not to mention that I know that the people in the Adventure Sports podcast family are good folks I really believe that and you can't live your life in fear I wanted you to know what was going on and so today I have another episode from Carl and Derek from the back packing and blisters podcast this time This is a past episode that they previously ran on their show
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: So this episode is a flashback episode from a completely different podcast.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's never been played on the adventure sports podcast before.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have tons to share today.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: I will share when I get back.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: But today is the 21st.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: And if I have my math right, that means I either just summited Kilimanjaro yesterday.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: Or perhaps...
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: We turned around because things didn't go as planned either way.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm on the way back down the mountain and I'm looking forward to catching up with you here in a couple of days when I return back to Goodall, Colorado.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: But now, as time to get jazzed, it's time to get excited.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's time to make some noise for the back packing and blisters.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: Blister advertisement.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_02]: Unless you have Hobbit feet, like Carl, we've all had blisters, annoying, painful, disgusting.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: Now there's a use for those blisters, guys.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's called plus busters, recycled blister pus, repurpose into a chapstick slash sunscreen combo.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_02]: And of course, it's organic, obviously.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_02]: Check it out.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_02]: It smells so bad, even the sun is repulsed.com.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: What's going on everybody this is there can with me today is the only man who is scared of bear a porcupine a zebra you name it when he tried to grow a mustache it was terrifying carl man really there he is
- 2:45[SPEAKER_04]: Welcome to the Bad Packed Vishes podcast.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_04]: This episode is brought to you by the quilt that was the most commonly used on the collegiate loop in light and equipment.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_04]: Check them out at lindaquibment.com.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_04]: With me today is a man who tells victims of the matrix that snitches get glitches.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, okay.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_02]: All right, really repurposed that snitches get stitches.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's sort of just like, just piggybacked off of somebody else's cool saying, really.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's okay.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_04]: Like, like cool saying, you feel like when somebody says that to you, you're like, that guy's cool.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's well known, I should say.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: And you're just, okay.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_02]: So you're just stealing essentially.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_02]: What is the matrix, Derek?
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: The matrix is the truth, Carl.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_02]: And are you willing to face the truth, you know?
- 3:33[SPEAKER_02]: Are you willing to face the...
- 3:34[SPEAKER_04]: I thought the matrix was the opposite of the truth.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_04]: It was the world that was pulled over our eyes to deceive us from the truth.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_02]: Well, yes, that's true.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_02]: But...
- 3:41[SPEAKER_02]: I think we need to discuss today what like what pill would you take number one obviously but like Are you somebody who can handle the truth or do you need to live in the
- 3:58[SPEAKER_04]: You think you're connecting other movies there?
- 3:59[SPEAKER_02]: The fake world.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_04]: Can you handle the truth?
- 4:01[SPEAKER_02]: This isn't the Truman Show Carl.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_02]: Can you live in like reality or do you need to live in your little bubble?
- 4:06[SPEAKER_04]: Right?
- 4:06[SPEAKER_04]: It's beginning glitchy.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like there's a glitch in Derrick's Matrix because now it's just thrown out random movie references that don't really relate at all to anything we're talking about.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_04]: The godfather and Truman are exactly the... No, it's got it.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_04]: All right, what do you say which pill would I have taken so you get the red pill you get the red pill you get the blue pill do you remember what each pill does Yes, in somebody's hands and we don't know if they use hand sanitizer so it's a little gross But if you had to take one which one you taken hands sanitizer do you remember what they each did?
- 4:33[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the red pill is the one where you like keep on going down the rabbit hole and the blue pill You just go back to the matriose life.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going red pill.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_04]: I like a good mystery So you draw us to stranger with dirty hands
- 4:45[SPEAKER_02]: Correct.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_04]: I think I don't want to take any pill.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to skip both of them.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_04]: That's not an option.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and I'm going to be like take your sunglasses off your little creepy and you have dirty hands.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_02]: So guys, this is this is what I have to do with every week.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_02]: This this kind of an answer.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, well, pick a pill.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_02]: Pick a pill.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_04]: You can't handle the you want to just go back to pick a pill if I was forced to pick a pill.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_02]: You go blue.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm being honest, I probably take the blue pill.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: You just want to go back to candy land and look your life.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_04]: I just don't trust the guy, so I'm like, I don't know where the red pill is going to take.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_04]: But he's proving that he is from somewhere different.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_04]: He's showing you that he's from a different.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_04]: No, you know, that's how scams work is people make you believe something that's not true.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: This is before that time.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_03]: So, and look, it's, they were, you know, before it's kind of scams.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_03]: The Pilskamp.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_03]: It's the Pilskamp, bro.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_03]: It's Lauren Spichburn.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_03]: It's Lauren Spichburn.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_03]: It's the best life ever set in the entire podcast, right?
- 5:46[SPEAKER_03]: It's Lauren Spichburn.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_03]: It's Lauren Spichburn.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_03]: It's Lauren Spichburn.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_03]: You're telling me if Lauren's came to your house.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_03]: The nature's pill scene is before the time was scams.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_03]: There's the listen.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_03]: It's the Matrix Pilskamp.
- 6:00[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_02]: You're not ready for it.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like if Lawrence Fischburn came to your house with those shades and sat and looked at you, maybe that speech.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_02]: You'll be terrified.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I know it.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_04]: So I don't, that's why I don't want to take a pill.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to have people like fear monger me and to take a pill out of a dirty hand.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_04]: Fear monger.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, it's a little intense, but it's you know what we don't we don't we didn't know him The character the main character me out in know him, but hopefully if you've been listening to this podcast long enough You know us and so you can take you can trust us to take the red pill.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_04]: Is that fair?
- 6:32[SPEAKER_04]: I'm taking the red pill
- 6:33[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_04]: You took some.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_04]: We're talking about that.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_04]: And then also I got a couple of interesting tidbits that we got coming up.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_04]: And one of them is they're actually rebooting an old TV show that you still watch.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_04]: So.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_04]: That to look forward to.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_04]: Any predictions?
- 6:50[SPEAKER_04]: Excited.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_04]: Hondo.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_04]: How does he have said first John 13 little children let us not love and word and talk, but indeed and in truth.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_04]: So, Derek, in the backpacking world, what's an example of somebody who's all talk?
- 7:09[SPEAKER_04]: How does that get down?
- 7:10[SPEAKER_02]: Somebody who's all talk.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_02]: Get back home.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I guess someone who, I don't know, like, brags about all the accomplishments they've had on the trail, but then can't physically stay with the group, maybe?
- 7:23[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe they show signs of weaknesses, shoulders.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_02]: I can be a lot of things.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: What's that experience like for you?
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: What do you think?
- 7:33[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, I come across a lot of people who do a really good job with spreadsheets and they've got kind of their gear situated.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_04]: They've got their gear purchased.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_04]: They've got their their base weight configured, but they don't really go backpack.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, they just got all the nickmacks and what they just like the organization said or they go backpack.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_04]: They're like, I'm going to go on a 4-8 trip.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_04]: Actually, I only made it half a day and I'm good.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to walk back out.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_04]: Interesting.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: So they're not out there for the love of the outdoors.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_02]: They're more.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_02]: They're out there for the love of the deer.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_04]: There's a lot.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_04]: Some of them actually do go outside and stay outside and go back home for a long time.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_04]: So that's they get respect there.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_04]: But the people that just yeah, the all-talk people that's not as much fun.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_04]: So you know what they're running this in this episode.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_04]: So it doesn't matter.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_04]: That's true.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_04]: Here we go.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_04]: Don't believe what the back pack in the world is telling you to believe.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_04]: If you take the blue pill, the story ends.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_04]: You wake up in your tent and believe whatever you want to believe.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_04]: You take the red pill.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_04]: You stay in backpacking and blisters land and we show you just how deep the rabbit hole goes.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to peel back the curtain, right?
- 8:37[SPEAKER_04]: That's correct.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_04]: So what is something that people believe that needs to be revealed to them as false or that there's actual truth that's different.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_02]: You want to go first?
- 8:48[SPEAKER_04]: Sure.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna, let's start, let's start with the bug spray.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_02]: If you use deep or off or whatever, it will repel all insects.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_02]: Why is it bad, though, Carl?
- 9:00[SPEAKER_02]: Because it's like basically spraying poison on yourself.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: We've had instances where you spray this and it gets on your gear, your shoe, your shirt, your bag, and it melts or your gear.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_04]: Is that something that you want to be putting on your skin?
- 9:15[SPEAKER_02]: Clearly, some people swear by it.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think they take the blue pill.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_04]: That's the soul of the grocery store.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_04]: It's sold at your outdoor store.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_04]: It's sold everywhere.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_02]: Everywhere.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_02]: Blue pill, though.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_04]: So, yeah.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_04]: A lot of the solution.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_04]: How do we overcome this?
- 9:29[SPEAKER_02]: How do we overcome it?
- 9:30[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_04]: What do you do, Derek?
- 9:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_02]: What could I use instead?
- 9:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I got it right here, Carl.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: This is what I use.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_02]: I use the lemon grass farms.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_02]: All natural.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_02]: All natural.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: Insect repellent.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: It's phenomenal.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's phenomenal.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_04]: It is.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_04]: It's like essential oils.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_04]: And for those that know their essential oils and have been part of the essential oils, Pyramid scheme, you know that they can cure cancer as well.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know about that.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_02]: I know that when I use it, I took a friend somewhere that gets roasted by mosquitoes and they got maybe one bite.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_02]: It was amazing.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_04]: So you don't need deets, what you're saying?
- 10:05[SPEAKER_02]: You don't need deets.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_02]: Get rid of the poison.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, I'm going to start with backpacks that are terrible like backpacks that are non-functional just yeah, so here's what he will do is they're trying to lighten their loads they buy these ultra light backpacks right and the way that the backpacks are ultra light aside for the fabric is they take all of
- 10:27[SPEAKER_04]: The handy-dandy pockets, they take off the brain, they take off all these different pockets from your packs.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_04]: So you just have like one main compartment, maybe a little bit of a mesh on the outside, right?
- 10:35[SPEAKER_04]: So they've removed all the accessory pockets and all the accessory due to as it make it functional, and they've taken it off to shed the weight.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_04]: that make sense.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_04]: But then what people do is then they spend a ton of extra money buying pockets to add right back to the pack.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_04]: They buy like the double hip belt pocket.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_04]: They buy double shoulder strap pockets and they just simply add it right back to the pack.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_02]: What you're probably actually heavier than the actual.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe it's just they're just trying to get this like pack weight down by buying a more expensive pack that has less features.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_04]: But then the more expensive pack becomes even more expensive when you add all the pockets back on.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_04]: That's
- 11:15[SPEAKER_02]: So you think in the whole industry's making more money because they're selling now pockets individually and the back packs and the back packs are still about the same amount of money Yeah, how much does a pocket go for how much does like a small So you can being hit belt pocket go for like let's say it was e-packs how much would you guess?
- 11:32[SPEAKER_04]: $30.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, more like $50.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_04]: $50.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_02]: $50.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_04]: And it's not a great one either.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_04]: So I try one out this summer, and I actually lost a map out of the pocket.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_04]: And so I took the packet off the pack.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_04]: And so if you want to be ultra light, just keep the pack as is.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_04]: If you want to have your pack actually function in an organizational way, then buy a pack that keeps the pockets.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_04]: Don't overspend it.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_02]: You seem very passionate about the pockets.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: I am like this is rubbed you the wrong way for a long time.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_04]: Literally digs I lost a map out of one.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: Literally did.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_02]: Interesting.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Rubbing is my hip too.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_02]: Did you get a rash?
- 12:06[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe if you had some some of this lemongrass, might have helped, I don't know.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_04]: That would have solved that problem as well.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_02]: Well, two birds one stone.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_02]: Next one is, uh...
- 12:17[SPEAKER_02]: the faith, the trust that people put in the trail signs, Carl, they just believe these trail signs to be the end of be all of where they're going.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_02]: As if they're never wrong, as if they're never, like if the mileage is actually wrong on the trail signs, and I think it's high tide that we spoke to this about this.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_02]: And I think we've talked about this again, too.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_02]: This is why we have things like GPS now, like if GPS now for location obviously is huge but like GPS is and then we we have mentioned hundreds of times on this podcast like the actual old school paper map.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the one that I just lost and just talking about one of you lost with a fake pocket paper, but yeah, whatever you know what you're saying.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so you're saying is do you think people are like navigating or using the trail signs is like a trusted source or guide for their journey.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_02]: I think more than they should because there are there are instances like when we were in I don't know like BAMP for you don't even see a trail sign for Lord knows how long and then there's other times where like in you somebody even right I mean we were out there and it's like hey this is gonna be in seven miles but it's really more like nine or ten miles or that was
- 13:32[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and so I think if you're planning a trip like, hey, we'll go do this trip in three days, and this is the mileage, but then you get them and you're like, hold on my Absolutely, so I'll share that Our most recent trip to collegiate loop, there's one sign and we weren't you trusting them, so I immediately needed it was wrong, but our camp was at this creek.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_04]: I think it was like called cottonwood creek and We had about 10 miles left to go to get to the creek
- 13:59[SPEAKER_04]: And I saw a sign, it said caught one creek, 17 miles.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_04]: 17.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_04]: 17.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_04]: So seven mile differential.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_04]: That's, that's all right.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_04]: So I don't even think, I don't think people are like navigating by trail signs, but I think that they are using them as a general guideline.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_04]: And I would question that as well.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm with you on this one.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, agreed agreed agreed agreed agreed agreed.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_02]: Take the red pill guys.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_02]: I wish you next one.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, so next one is, I'm going to probably make some people mad about this, but there's a lot of folks are buying gear based upon reviews that they're seeing on YouTube.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_04]: And there are some legitimate YouTubers we've had them on the show that I trust their gear reviews.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_04]: Our number one seed is just now doors for sure.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_04]: But there's others.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_04]: There's many others that aren't really testing their gear in the outdoors.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_04]: And we've even had one of them admit that on our show that happened early.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_04]: But one guy we had, and I can name names said that he tested out some sleeping pads and sleeping bags in his living room.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_04]: And then did it like a gear review video.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_04]: And so, and it was on this podcast talking about it.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I would just say that if you are blindly trusting YouTubers not knowing how much they've actually used the gear, like if they're not telling you how much they've used it, just I would be very careful.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_04]: And if they're testing something indoors when you're going to be outdoors, kind of what?
- 15:18[SPEAKER_04]: Well, you don't always know that, that that was like a secret that kind of got revealed.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think that was intentional.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_04]: I think I kind of dug it out of them.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_04]: You might have.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_02]: That might be one of your best interviews.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_04]: It's kind of the, yes, an investigator reporting maybe, right?
- 15:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, right, say, dare I say.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, dare I say.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_04]: Well, we'll submit that for the podcast and Nobel Prize.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_02]: Wow, I think, I think we're in the top three running right now.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_02]: I, it's hard for me to disagree on this because there's so much on social media in general, right, not just backpacking at people just like, oh, it's on there, right, must, it's truth, it's gospel, so.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_04]: And before you think around our high horse, like, we've already told you well, times don't even trust us, like we'll tell you how much we've used it.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_04]: We used it a lot and I'm just not like a meticulous reviewer.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_04]: We like this thread is going to free after 75 hours of use.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_04]: So beware of, you know, like, I don't know.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_04]: I don't, I'm not that meticulous.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, didn't you sit at the beginning of the episode that they could trust us with the red pill?
- 16:11[SPEAKER_02]: Did you say that?
- 16:11[SPEAKER_04]: They did.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I did say that.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_04]: So now can you trust what I'm saying about not trusting us is the question, right?
- 16:17[SPEAKER_02]: Can you trust Carl or can you trust me I'm called I'm called.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm out.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_02]: I guess I'm out.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_02]: You're out.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's one left I'm gonna keep talking though.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: Take the green pill.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: What you got?
- 16:27[SPEAKER_02]: My next one is okay, people okay This is something that's sold all in all outdoor stores sometimes in the grocery store as well
- 16:34[SPEAKER_02]: And people will use this on the trail thinking it's like not a big deal if they're using it in a lake upon a river Biodegradable soap Not safe even though it says it's safe for the ponds and the why not it's always harmful Why not wait?
- 16:53[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't know about this.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_02]: Why is not safe because you're increasing first of all you're increasing all the junk in there
- 16:59[SPEAKER_02]: right?
- 17:00[SPEAKER_02]: It still increases like the nitrogen in the water, which is not good for animals.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_02]: It's harming the animals.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_02]: You're putting something that's not natural in the water.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_02]: And furthermore, what if somebody's downstream?
- 17:09[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to filter your soapy dishwater poopy water, whatever that is?
- 17:13[SPEAKER_02]: You know, like that's disgusting.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_02]: So when they just clean your filter, it's
- 17:17[SPEAKER_02]: That's fair, that might, but I think putting anything in water in nature that is not natural from nature is going to be harmful.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_02]: And this is one example.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, let's, let's rank him.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_04]: So you take off your shoe and sock.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_04]: You put your foot in the one that's not natural.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_04]: Is that reckon nature?
- 17:35[SPEAKER_02]: Is that a bacteria is not in nature?
- 17:39[SPEAKER_02]: I'm asking like let's rake him let's go your dirty foot maybe you take a little swim in the water So now you get your butt in there and then and then you get the totally different ones worse I'm totally different my butt my feet might have a smell unlikely obviously But they have bacteria there's bacteria everywhere in in nature There's there's creatures designed to like eat poop in the ocean to eat poop to just bugs insects This is their job right but if you're putting a chemical
- 18:08[SPEAKER_02]: in that's a man by the rate of was a chemical that was on that you're going to do this all day aren't you like okay not that's all you know just throw you you're the guy who throws all the styrofoam cups out in the wild aren't you you're that guy way you that guy you don't know the answer that's you're different you know the answer what biodegradable it's okay not to know i'm not a scientist either as i'm asking
- 18:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying it's not going to buy out of grade.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_02]: I'm saying, hey, there's different timelines for different bad or terrible things, right?
- 18:33[SPEAKER_02]: But also, it still has chemicals in it.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what's we want to pull up a soap and find out.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's got chemicals in it that are still going to raise nitrogen levels in the water.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: Still going to be harmful for a little critter in the water.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_02]: That's not used to chemical.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: So if you want to kill wildlife, why don't we?
- 18:47[SPEAKER_02]: Is that what you're saying you want to do?
- 18:49[SPEAKER_02]: You want to kill wildlife?
- 18:50[SPEAKER_02]: I know you like pictures with mousse and whatever.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: He'll take a picture with a pile of scat.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, this is where we're at in his life now.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_04]: So, somebody got a bunch of fans of theirs on in the attack.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_02]: All right, I know you don't, I know you're not like a fan of soap in general.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_02]: And we all get that the B&B family understands the annual shower.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_02]: I got it, but rather, you don't think of a fan of soap.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_04]: Like, we just spent the whole beginning part of the episode time at Dirty Hands and you don't think of a fan of soap.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, maybe not.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_04]: That goes together.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friends, I want to take a minute to tell you about campfire ranch.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_01]: My friend Sam started campfire ranch several years ago, and his goal, his mission, is to energize places by creating meaningful human experiences in the outdoors.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: And all of the campfire ranch locations from their campgrounds to trailside lodges to back country huts, their goal is to help you stay in the place and in the way that you want, so that you can spend more time getting out there and getting after it.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_01]: Campfire Ranch Little Sugar is a trailside lodge located in Belivista, Arkansas, just north of Bentonville, the mountain bike capital of the world.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_01]: The lodge features seven private bedrooms with on-sweet bathrooms and communal spaces for gathering, meeting with others, and relaxing after a long day on the trails.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: Little Sugar has immediate access to 160-plus miles of public trails designed for mountain biking gravel biking, trail running and hiking, and it also has easy access to the food, art, and music scene of downtown Bentonville.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: So grab some buddies and go to www.campfirerange.co slash ASP, that's not.com, it's .co slash ASP, and you'll get 15% off nightly base rates at little sugar and bellivist to Arkansas, and this opportunity is valid all the way through 2026.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: But you know how these things go, your weekend is going to fill up quickly.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: So go right now to campfirerans.co slash ASP to plan your big adventure.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_04]: All right, next one I got is, okay, this one, I fell victim to him and it'll be strong like recently all right, so you go on to some of these websites such as like Roger and gear and you're looking for some different types of like backpacking snacks and you happen upon a brand that has way better ingredients, it's just like, you know,
- 21:28[SPEAKER_04]: high nutritional value.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_04]: They might even call it like a cookie or something.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_04]: And you're like, ooh, okay, this is different.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to have a different, you know, kind of mix up my snacks, and so you buy it.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_04]: It's usually a graciously expensive.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_04]: And, and then you get it sent to you, and then you eat it.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_04]: And if you're eating on the trail, you convince yourself,
- 21:46[SPEAKER_04]: Like the matrix for this is that this is actually a cookie, but it's a healthy cookie.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, okay.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_04]: And so you're enjoying it, but you're kidding yourself folks.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_04]: It tastes like trash.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_04]: There's no healthy cookies.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_04]: It tastes good.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_04]: Like they're either they have bad stuff in them like sugar and they taste good or they don't and they taste bad.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_04]: So I bought this cookie that, I don't know, it was like a little bag of cookies.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_04]: It was supposed to be a healthy and it, I just like spinning it out.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_04]: I was like this is disgusting.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_04]: I couldn't even
- 22:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think we've, I've had this conversation as you too.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's like one of the hard things about going backpacks and I feel like my nutrition in general suffers because a lot of the stuff we have to buy is, you know, like it's processed or it's freeze, you're out of where.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_02]: So it's going to, it's it's just hard.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_02]: And so I think the marketing for a lot of these like the newest power bar, the newest whatever energy bar is like we're going to make it stand out because it's going to be.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_02]: organic or it's going to be all natural or it's going to have like sugar and that's all great but it's still your still just jam and junk and this barn you go like process it together.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_04]: It's just not it's not natural and I'm not saying like you have to have chips a hole which is like chemical cookie you they do taste really amazing those are so good they are but you can have like so that there's like trader Joe's versions of chips a hole and they still taste good but don't fool yourself it's not a healthy cookie so bad for you
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: That one makes sense.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, my last one is, is okay, this has to do with lightning and metal.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_02]: Like if you, if you have a, there's a, there's a myth of like, if I have a metal backpack frame and I'm out there in a lightning storm is going to attract lightning, I got to get rid of this metal frame.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_02]: I got to, look, guys.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_02]: If you're in a lighting storm, here's the deal.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty much everything is a conductor of electricity.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_02]: When you're talking about like 300 million volts of electricity, just it's some things are more than others.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_02]: And usually it's like the tallest thing around, mainly like a tree.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_02]: So the way to like be better about this is not worrying about your backpack frame.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's like don't go stand on the top of the hill, maybe, right?
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: Or don't...
- 23:54[SPEAKER_02]: just don't be a don't be taller than everybody else like Carlos right so just don't don't be the tallest thing out there like just keep going but like the odds of yeah it's more likely gonna attract something larger like a tree or or something out there that's way bigger than you not you're a little you know a spray frame or whatever you use car
- 24:14[SPEAKER_04]: I like that you for honest with science again.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_04]: That was pretty nice of you like a conductor.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_04]: That was pretty good.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: It's all due to its light.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_04]: It's like millions of volts of electricity.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_04]: Volt, that's another good vocabular we're got.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_04]: Like bullets.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_04]: All right, I would like to pose the question.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_04]: What percent of the B&B family right now they're listening?
- 24:34[SPEAKER_04]: What percent have a external metal backpack frame?
- 24:40[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna I'm gonna assume which is never good by me to do it.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I'm gonna assume it's like the Maybe the generation before us
- 24:50[SPEAKER_02]: The boomers the boomers.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe they have some old my grandpa game.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_02]: We just Rucksack and it's got a eternal frame So I don't I would say it's a small percentage though.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'll go zero percent.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know about zero I think it's probably like 0.1% and there's a few just trying to be retro, right?
- 25:07[SPEAKER_02]: There's a few But but again like there's still there's still metal frames out there that are still in garage sales.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_02]: I see all the time at garage sales
- 25:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but they could still be like, oh, I have a metal frame.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's very thin, it's like internal frame you're saying.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it could be internal, external, but it's so they're worried because it's like, it's metal.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, you're worried about a little baby, little wire, as opposed to, you know, I don't know, yeah, you're right.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_02]: But it's going to get you.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to get you.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_04]: But it's general idea is correct.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_04]: I just don't know how many people you're hitting.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know how many people you're.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_02]: It could be it could be an internal metal frame of a new backpack.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't mean it's I think the myth is like I agree if I have metal.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to get hit.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: I got to get my backpack off.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_02]: I got to go do what what are you going to go do?
- 25:48[SPEAKER_04]: I'm a greedy.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_04]: I'm saying like you're hitting a bigger audience than what I was suggesting.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just saying.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_04]: I wonder how many people are actually really worried about this I mean, I don't know.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_02]: I think quite a few.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: Well, think about like when you get caught in a
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's a lot of people who haven't been in a crazy Lightning storm, right?
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe they've had some rain and we're about when you're in like a thunderous lightning storm I think there's quite a few people that are like, oh, I don't really know where do I go like what do I do I need to go up by a tree?
- 26:16[SPEAKER_02]: Do I need to go like where do I go?
- 26:18[SPEAKER_02]: I mean we get people in our own group that we're like freaking out.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_02]: They're like, I am gonna like leave everything metal on the ground and run away
- 26:26[SPEAKER_02]: And right, they ran away.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_02]: Well, away from the middle.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know you're probably right.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_04]: There's probably more people scared about that.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_04]: I guess I'm, yeah, I guess the lightning thing is not on my list like I've been around lighting enough and I'm definitely concerned about it, but I'm also in my mind, I'm thinking it's like the lightning stats where it's like eight people get struck by a lightning, you know, nation wide every year.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_02]: I agree and most of the time they survive as well.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think maybe it's eight deaths, you're out of no.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's like 90% I think it's a very high percentage.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_02]: I could be right.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_02]: I just had this trivia question on a game as well.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_02]: It was like 80 or 90%.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_02]: Survive, but I think it was, I think it was, I think it was Witz and Wagers.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_02]: Actually, Fabulous.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's a great game.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's a great game.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_02]: That's a good one.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_02]: I learned a lot of the time I play.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_02]: You got one more?
- 27:16[SPEAKER_02]: Here you go.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_04]: I've got to come more, I'm trying to think which one, I can't, I can't have a lot.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_04]: So should I pick on Cottage companies or Cottage companies?
- 27:23[SPEAKER_04]: Trails or should I pick on... Who trails?
- 27:28[SPEAKER_02]: I don't Cottage companies seem to kind of niche.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_04]: I can't, I can't, I don't know.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like I've got to share one of a freeze ride food because I actually reached out to a company about this to get their, get their kind of counter argument, I guess.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_04]: So I should probably do that one.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that sounds good, do that.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, so...
- 27:43[SPEAKER_04]: There's some most of the food that you get in those like meal packets or freeze dried food, right?
- 27:49[SPEAKER_04]: But yes, as a result, people assume that what they're buying is freeze dried food.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_04]: And there's some companies that don't actually make freeze dried food, they make dehydrated food.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_02]: dehydrated food, right?
- 27:57[SPEAKER_04]: Which is significantly cheaper.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_04]: So my problem was, why is your food either as expensive or more expensive if it's just dehydrated versus freeze dried?
- 28:08[SPEAKER_04]: So I had a problem with that.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like, it should be way cheaper because the process is cheaper.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_04]: You don't need the same machines.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I can dehydrate food at home.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_04]: It's not that big of a deal, right?
- 28:16[SPEAKER_04]: Are they marketing is more healthy, somehow?
- 28:19[SPEAKER_04]: Is it?
- 28:19[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think they're marketing that way.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_04]: I just, so I reached out to one company that does the hydrified call good to go.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_04]: And their counter argument is that they fully cook their meals.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_04]: So their meals are all together.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_04]: And then they dehydrate them rather than like freeze drawing, individual ingredients or buying, individual ingredients freezer and like throwing them in the bag.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_04]: And then they, of course, they say they have a smaller branch.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_04]: They have higher ingredient prices.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_04]: And then they use the dreaded supply chain phrase.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_04]: So you get, I guess you can make the case.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_02]: That's a hard one.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I are many people really caring about that.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_02]: You think?
- 28:53[SPEAKER_04]: I think one of the food prices, right?
- 28:55[SPEAKER_04]: So if you see somebody who's like, wait a second, you're should be cheaper.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but we want cheaper prices for everything, though, not just for each of them.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_02]: I like California gas prices.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_02]: If you live here, you will.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_02]: I only pay five dollars a gallon, guys.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_02]: Don't be jealous.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_04]: Don't be.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, I'm going to say maybe on that one.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_04]: I get that there's might be better crafted.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_04]: I'll be honest, though, like in terms of taste, like there's taste good.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_04]: Good to go is one of the good, you know, they taste
- 29:22[SPEAKER_04]: like good meals, but so do the other ones that do it the different way.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_04]: Right?
- 29:26[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_02]: Is it worth it, you're saying?
- 29:29[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_04]: I'll let a real study.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_04]: You tell me what you think on that one.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if that's a good big as a deal.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_02]: As we're presenting, is you're presenting to me.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_02]: But I see your plan.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_02]: I see your point.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_02]: It is kind of annoying.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to give you one that I have a strong reaction to.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if you have a strong reaction.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_04]: So I have asked people, you know, over the years you're like, oh, hey, what's treasuring your list?
- 29:47[SPEAKER_04]: Like, what's in your bucket list?
- 29:49[SPEAKER_04]: What trails you want to do, right?
- 29:50[SPEAKER_04]: And if we ask people 10 years ago, people would say like, the job mirror trail, we want to do it through hike at the Pacific Crest Trail.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_04]: They want to go to, you know, very national parks.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_04]: But in the last, like, five-ish years, a new trail has popped up on people's lists.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_04]: It's the, you went to Highline Trail in Utah.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_04]: And I think the reason why it's on people's list is because a couple of movies have been made about this trail.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_04]: And so just because it's serving glorified in movies, people are like, oh, I want to do this trail, right?
- 30:19[SPEAKER_04]: And the trail, like the beauty of the trail, like it's nice.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_04]: But I wouldn't rank it in the top like 200 trails in the world, but somehow it's making it on a people's bucket list and I'm highly confused about this and I think they're being manipulated by the backpack on a matrix because they simply watch a video or two about it and they're like, oh, that person did it.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_04]: Now I want to do it.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_04]: But I don't think it's really, it's fine to do, but is it really like a bucket list like?
- 30:45[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, I don't think it's one of those things where it became popular.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_02]: So now we got to do it and do it because everybody, I want to say that I did the thing that was popular, right?
- 30:56[SPEAKER_02]: That's what it really boils down to.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_04]: There's some things we're appealing about it.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_04]: relatively central located in Utah.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_04]: It's kind of an annoying hike to do in terms of like shuttles and stuff like that, but it's like a relatively shorter through hike, so that's appealing to people.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_04]: So I get that, but I would do the collegiate loop over the highline trail.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_04]: It's way, it's like 10 times more beautiful and a lot less crowded.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_02]: So there's so many better trails visually, I would say, as well.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_02]: Like some of the stuff we've seen in
- 31:23[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, I mean, you could go on on like glacier, right?
- 31:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_02]: Even even even Colorado's got some great stuff.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_02]: And then you got you a 70, of course, which is, I mean, I don't know.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think it's just one of those popularity things were like, oh, it's the cool thing.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_02]: I got to do it.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: I got to do it.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_02]: Or I'm not cool.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_02]: That's, you know.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_04]: I got like some local treasure in my house.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_04]: You can make the case.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_04]: Those are nicer.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_02]: You could.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_04]: Anyway, all right.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to get off my high horse.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_04]: I think that's I got to come more.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_04]: I'll save him for later.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_04]: If you if you if you want to hear more, we'll come back to it.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think they do.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_04]: I think they do.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_04]: What did you get some good ones?
- 31:57[SPEAKER_02]: I did, but you know, I think it's all about that red pill.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_02]: Do you want to face the truth?
- 32:02[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_02]: We pulled back the curtain guys.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_02]: You let us know what you think.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_02]: You want more.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_02]: We'll give you more.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_02]: If not, take the blue pill that Carl did.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_02]: You know?
- 32:11[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_04]: I've got Matrix trivia coming up right for this.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_04]: Oh.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_04]: Three Matrix questions or Matrix related questions.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_04]: And I think you're in a pass this one.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_04]: I know you said you said you've only seen the movies.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_04]: You've seen all the movies which is one time each.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_04]: Is that correct?
- 32:28[SPEAKER_02]: Like so long ago, it's so long.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_04]: Like when did Matrix one come out?
- 32:32[SPEAKER_04]: Like want to say like 99 or 97 or something like that?
- 32:35[SPEAKER_02]: 99, that's like 20 plus years ago.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but if it's time like I feel like we were in our stage of life where you rewatch movies a lot, right?
- 32:43[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, when you were like really into it.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was in it.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I liked it.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think maybe I saw the first one twice.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_02]: I don't feel good about the story though.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_02]: It's my big time.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_04]: I just remember I was in the theater watching it.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_04]: And it was before like a hit he really got and hyped up.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_04]: And they did the red pill blue pill thing.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_04]: My buddy leaned in next me.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_04]: And you were like, no, I'm taking a blue pill.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and that ends the movie right there wouldn't be any fun.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's fine.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_04]: So, all right, here we go.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_04]: Number one, the Matrix, the first one, anyway, is considered an allegory for which of the following stories, for which the following things.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_04]: All right, there's an allegory.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_04]: A Christianity, the Lord of the Rings, C chicken little or D socialism,
- 33:29[SPEAKER_02]: The Matrix is an allegory for one of those, okay, so we got Lord of the Rings, we got Chicken Little, what was the first guy's falling, what was the first one, Christianity, Christianity or socialism, gosh, this is the role of the characters trying to think of the role, I'm going to say Christianity, just because I have no- Christianity is correct!
- 33:56[SPEAKER_04]: They have like the save your guy.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_04]: They have the the Judas character.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, look at that.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_04]: That's the hardest question out of these, right?
- 34:03[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think so.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, fine.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_04]: What is another word for a matrix?
- 34:10[SPEAKER_04]: A, a grid.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to be a column.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_04]: See a cipher or D, a paragraph.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_04]: I immediately was going to say, do you say a paragraph?
- 34:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to say grid immediately.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go with grid.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_04]: Great, it's correct, look at the ads, you're the past trivia.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_04]: I feel special.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_04]: Not paragraph.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_04]: I was leaning towards column actually.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_04]: This one, I'm just hoping you get, it's not much of a choice.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_04]: I knew it was the name of the main character, but the main bad guy called him by a different name.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_04]: What was it?
- 34:43[SPEAKER_04]: No idea.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, can you give me?
- 34:45[SPEAKER_02]: Wait, this is the most commonly quoted line of the entire series probably is it okay, Mr. Anderson called him Mr. Anderson.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_02]: Mr. Anderson.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's what it's gonna.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, all right.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_02]: I got it.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you dominated man Just throwing out darts and hitting the board.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_04]: Couple to this I thought you know we kind of found a find out what's your top sci-fi movie all time
- 35:10[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I'm not matrix.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_02]: Now, I have a couple, a couple.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_02]: OK, I said, go ahead.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think for the time, I think when I finally got to see, I think it's the first radar movie I saw.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember what it came out.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what it was.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_02]: I can't remember.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_02]: I was I think it was Terminator 2.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was so cool.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that was very cool.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_02]: It was so cool.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_02]: I was like this is so cool.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_02]: So probably that one.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: I was on the edge of my seat and then I mean all the back of the futures are awesome.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_02]: I like all the back to futures.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_02]: You could throw stowers in there I guess.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, they're those.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, I think that's where you get, like, sci-fi, right?
- 35:47[SPEAKER_04]: Like, first is fantasy.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_04]: There's nothing really sciencey about Star Wars, right?
- 35:50[SPEAKER_04]: It feels, it's classified as sci-fi, though, because it feels, it feels, though, right?
- 35:55[SPEAKER_04]: But it really is just like space fantasy.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_04]: Just like, like, like, like, like, like, head back to the future's mind, but is that, is there any, like, science behind that?
- 36:02[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, Doc Brown, bro, come on.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: Pluckus classes, but yeah.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_02]: Pluckus capacitor.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_02]: Jiggle while.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I heard somebody say, like, if you,
- 36:10[SPEAKER_04]: So if you are wanting to send, you know, like at the very beginning, they send the dog like a minute into the future, right?
- 36:17[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_04]: So if you send something like one minute into the future, and you put it in the same spot, then you're going to end up in the middle of outer space, because the earth is moving around the sun.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_04]: So you can't put it in the same spot, just one minute in the future.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_04]: You'd have to account for distance as well, right?
- 36:34[SPEAKER_02]: Because we're traveling it well, like a vows and mows and all.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, something like that.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_04]: And so I don't know that they really cover that.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_02]: That's a good point, you know?
- 36:41[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think Doc Brown was calculating correctly.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_04]: If he was, they didn't share that in the movie, so we'll have to ask the screenwriters, I guess.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_04]: Unbeluble.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_04]: Unbeluble.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_04]: Wow.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_04]: Our last tip I got is I told you they are rebooting a TV show.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_04]: One, I think you're currently, you're currently binge watching the old one.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_04]: Am I?
- 36:59[SPEAKER_04]: And that my friend is murderous she wrote.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_04]: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
- 37:29[SPEAKER_02]: the Halloween per se yeah yeah alien yeah I could see her doing she was an alien that was still going to remember saying she was freaky or friday freaky or friday yeah yeah um I mean I could see that I guess I don't know you can see her like running in the murder people every I mean cuz she's older now and it's like I could see it but I don't know I remember it was like a huge fan of the show the time I think I was more into like a magnum p.i.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_04]: I watched it with I think my parents watched it or my grandma watched it and at the time I thought it was fine and then I think we flipped on an old episode and I was like, too, she's super nosy like get like she's like going into crime scenes and she's doing really inappropriate things just to try to figure out who and then of course she she solves the murder of course, but you're not really supposed to do what she did Well, I mean it's illegal probably, right?
- 38:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you can get trouble for that stuff Wow, it's a beware.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_02]: It's a good thing you're so straight-laced.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_02]: I'll never have that problem, right?
- 38:25[SPEAKER_02]: That's it for me.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_02]: That's all I got.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_02]: That's all I got.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_02]: Guys, I'm just gonna leave it with this.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_02]: If you want to have a great life, take that red pill.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_02]: You want to have a boring life.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_02]: Every day, take that blue pill.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_02]: Just like you know who right next to me.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_02]: Deep next to me.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_02]: long time ago, I had a, uh, flux capacitor.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_02]: And, uh, I said, Carl, look, I can send you, I can send you to the future, man.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_02]: I can do it.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, really?
- 39:01[SPEAKER_02]: I want to go into the past, though.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_02]: I said, all right.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, this is meant for the future, but I'll do, I'll do the past for you, because I'm not smart.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_02]: I did it.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_02]: And, uh, the goal, I said, why do you want to go into the past?
- 39:12[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, I can't really say.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_02]: And I said, well, uh,
- 39:15[SPEAKER_02]: be honest with me is it for something a top of your head that you don't have anymore to try get more hair back he's like you got me.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_02]: So I sent him back like 20 years and he really I mean he got like a couple hairs.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_02]: It was that not the changed.
