- 1:16Mr. Chairman, there are 11 yeses and two Nos.
- 1:18This is Will Montgomery. From a Washington Redskin
- 1:27center. Y'all what's good folks?
- 1:29This is Trey Johnson, the Headbanger y'all, and you're
- 1:32listening to Mess Hall with Rally Captain and Tell Gate Ten
- 1:35word. What's going on everybody?
- 1:39Not your typical show opening. Today's not your typical show.
- 1:42We were supposed to record something yesterday.
- 1:44Unfortunately, I got stuck at the DC City Council office.
- 1:49What you guys just heard was them casting the vote to approve
- 1:53the RFK Campus project. And what you're not seeing is my
- 1:57Co host and good friend rally captain beside me.
- 2:00Because of scheduling conflicts, we couldn't record the show
- 2:04yesterday and we weren't to be able to record one this evening,
- 2:07but we had to get one out. So I'm recording this right now.
- 2:12It is Thursday, let's just say early morning and I wanted to
- 2:16make sure that we got something out for you guys because
- 2:18yesterday was it was historic day.
- 2:21It was a momentous day for not only the city, but also for any
- 2:27Washington fan out there, regardless of what.
- 2:29Name you root for, it's. Just all burgundy and gold.
- 2:33And now the burgundy and gold are coming back to DC.
- 2:38So let me recap. Yesterday I got to the council
- 2:43chamber, the Wilson Building down in DC off of 14th St. at
- 2:479:00 AM. They were set to start the
- 2:51hearing, let's just say 10:30 or so.
- 2:55So I want to get there early because I thought I'd be packed
- 2:57and it was. It was definitely busy.
- 2:58It was a lot of people there, a lot of buzz.
- 3:01There were some people there opposing the stadium.
- 3:04There was some TV reporters there and then a lot of DC
- 3:07residents there in favor of the stadium.
- 3:10It's 10:30. No one knows what's going on,
- 3:14but you can actually stream the DC Council in their meetings.
- 3:19So they are actually having a breakfast pre meeting that we
- 3:24can watch. They decide to open the council
- 3:27chamber doors at roughly 11:00 when it was supposed to start,
- 3:32by the way. So we all file in.
- 3:35I get my seat right there in the middle and I'm hanging out
- 3:38talking to some of the team officials and some different
- 3:41just, you know, Washingtonians. And that was actually a guy from
- 3:43Virginia that came out that just really wanted to make sure that
- 3:46the stadium deal passed. I thought he was from DC.
- 3:48He wasn't even a commander's fan.
- 3:49He just kind of wanted the deal to go through because he knew
- 3:52that it was right for the city. And we're just waiting and
- 3:57waiting. It's 12:30, and next thing I
- 4:01know, nothing's happening. So I pull up the breakfast
- 4:05meeting. They are still sitting in their
- 4:06chambers deliberating and going back and forth.
- 4:10And what had happened earlier that day was the Washington
- 4:14Commander sent a letter out to the DC Council and this is what
- 4:19it read. Dear Chairman Mendelson and the
- 4:22members of the DC Council, the Washington Commander's right to
- 4:25express our deep concern regarding the last minute new
- 4:28demands proposed by the Council mere hours before the final vote
- 4:32on the Robert F Kennedy Campus Redevelopment Act of 2025.
- 4:37The Commanders have committed to a once in a generation 2.7
- 4:40billion investment in the District's future, bringing
- 4:43thousands of jobs and catalyzing economic growth and opportunity.
- 4:48Our vision creates approximately 5 to 6000 housing units,
- 4:51including at least 30% affordable housing.
- 4:54As labor union leaders for Metropolitan Washington Council,
- 4:58AFLCIL, Baltimore, DC Building Trades, UNITE HERE Local 23 and
- 5:0325 and 32, BJSEIU wrote yesterday in the Washington
- 5:08Business Journal. The Commander's new home at the
- 5:11historic RFK site will represent.
- 5:13One of the. Biggest wins for union workers
- 5:15in the district's history. In fact, the commanders have
- 5:18already put millions of dollars into the site to prepare for
- 5:21development. For several months, our teams
- 5:25worked in good faith with each council member to finalize this
- 5:27project. Just last month, an overwhelming
- 5:30majority of the Council voted for this project and we are
- 5:33proud to announce this deal with the Mayor and the Council.
- 5:36It reflected the widespread support from residents across
- 5:38the district who want to see more jobs, more opportunities
- 5:42and celebrate their football team coming home.
- 5:44Less than 24 hours before the final vote, the Commander's
- 5:48organization was presented with a list of unworkable and
- 5:51impractical new last minute demands by council members,
- 5:55which we simply cannot agree to as it jeopardizes the deal.
- 5:59Most demands were made verbally without supporting
- 6:01documentation. Given our deep engagement with
- 6:03the council over many months and are proven willingness to
- 6:06address any council member feedback, this is unexpected and
- 6:10unfortunate. Many of those proposals
- 6:12significantly impact our ability to deliver this project as
- 6:15envision and will restrict the value this project would
- 6:18deliver. These amendments could limit or
- 6:21even preclude construction. Reduce RF KS ability to attend
- 6:25major event to attract major events.
- 6:28Limit the city's ability to deliver on its proposed housing
- 6:32and hinder CBE participation in the project.
- 6:35Additionally, unions have stressed or discomfort with the
- 6:38proposed changes and are lobbying against any further
- 6:41amendments to the deal. Most do not want these
- 6:44amendments to impact our ability to deliver a world class stadium
- 6:47with premier mixed-use development.
- 6:49In the interest of moving forward with one of the most
- 6:52impactful projects in Washington, DC, we urge you to
- 6:55honor our core agreement from only one month ago and move
- 6:58forward with the final approval. Mark Klaus, Washington
- 7:01commander's team president. So the team sent this out
- 7:05yesterday and everyone's abuzz. What what's going on?
- 7:10I'm I'm there outside the chambers.
- 7:11We're there inside the chambers. And you can actually watch this
- 7:16breakfast meeting happening. Several council members who were
- 7:19a no vote, Robert Ward, Junior Fruman and Nadeau just we're
- 7:24going back and forth talking about the amendments they want
- 7:26to bring up. To be clear, there were 13 new
- 7:30amendments that they want to discuss and bring up to this
- 7:34campus project. They could have passed any of
- 7:37these amendments and passed the project, but the commanders
- 7:41might not have agreed to one of these amendments and could have
- 7:43said, you know what, thanks, but no thanks.
- 7:46We're doing something else. To be clear, I don't think the
- 7:50commanders would have gone to Virginia.
- 7:52I don't think they would have gone to Maryland or anywhere
- 7:54else. I just honestly think if an
- 7:57amendment passed, for example, Robert White, junior council
- 8:02member at large, proposed 5 amendments.
- 8:06He actually withdrew one of them.
- 8:08But all four of the amendments he proposed failed miserably and
- 8:131 he withdrew because it counted on another one of the other
- 8:15amendments going through. But one amendment he proposed
- 8:18was to if by 2050 a portion of the land is undeveloped, that DC
- 8:27were to take the land back. Council Chair Mendelssohn urged
- 8:32members not to support this. Council Member Mcduffie also
- 8:36urged people not support this so that there are already things in
- 8:39place that if the land is left vacant, then the team could be
- 8:43taxed, they could be hit in other ways as penalties.
- 8:46There are already tools there. And council member, Council
- 8:50Chair Mendelssohn basically said that Robert White was looking
- 8:53for a problem that did not exist.
- 8:55And that's honestly what it felt like.
- 8:57And I don't go to these things every day, Thank God.
- 9:00I, I hopefully will not go to one of these things in the near
- 9:04future or ever again. But it felt like grandstanding.
- 9:08It felt like these council members were trying to propose
- 9:11things and pitch things. That's just, I don't want to say
- 9:16don't matter, but that already have restrictions and rules in
- 9:19place to be taken care of. And one of them was something
- 9:23that was to be worked on five years down the road.
- 9:26And the council chairs were just saying this is not something we
- 9:28have to tackle now and has any effect on this deal.
- 9:31So why are you bringing this up and trying to tack it on?
- 9:34The fact of the matter is some of these amendments, and I'm
- 9:36looking at this, they got proposed.
- 9:40Tuesday. Night at 6:56 PM, right?
- 9:45The fact of the matter is this thing was in its 11th hour and
- 9:49you're now bringing this up at 6:56 PM and the team is just
- 9:52seeing this then. So I don't blame them for taking
- 9:56their stance and sending that letter the very next day.
- 10:00And I was live tweeting and kind of keeping everybody updated for
- 10:04what was going on at a certain point when they finished their
- 10:08breakfast meeting, which by the way, it was now 1:30.
- 10:11So that's a super long breakfast.
- 10:13And me and a lot of other people were starving inside the council
- 10:16chair, council member, council Chair Mendelssohn and others
- 10:22ended up getting on a call with the commanders.
- 10:24I stepped out of the council room, took a interview with
- 10:28Embassy Four, and they said, hey, they're talking with the
- 10:31commanders right now. So I made sure everyone knew
- 10:34that that was happening. And rumor was things were going
- 10:39to go through, but we still had to go through all the hoops and
- 10:42jump through everything to hear all thirteen of these amendments
- 10:46to see if somebody would actually get any of them
- 10:49approved. By my count, I think only one of
- 10:53them passed, and that was amendment by Council Member
- 10:56Felder that talked about adding a 2 million annual fee for a
- 11:01community reinvestment fund. So I don't think that's
- 11:05something the commander's had an issue with.
- 11:08All I know is the parts that the commanders would have had a
- 11:11problem with where they came out or just came through the
- 11:14Grapevine that they would have had an issue with these
- 11:17amendments. None of those went through and
- 11:20the deal passed 11 to 2. The only people that not in
- 11:25favor of it were Nadeau, who was always going to be in no matter
- 11:28what, and Robert White Junior, who, frankly, I've got a problem
- 11:32with. But hey, that's a story for
- 11:33another pod and another day and maybe next year when elections
- 11:37come up. But the team's coming home, all
- 11:40right? We are.
- 11:40We're not 100% there yet. There's still some more hurdles
- 11:43that need to go through, but for all intents and purposes this is
- 11:48now out of DC's hands. It goes to Congress.
- 11:51Congress is or Congress has A and I'm just looking through my
- 11:55tweets from yesterday. Congress has a 30 day review
- 11:59period, so once the mayor signs it makes it official.
- 12:02Congress has a 30 day review window.
- 12:05Blocking anything would be rare. Now granted, they did block ADC
- 12:10Bill years ago in regards to the budget, but if they do nothing,
- 12:15it just goes through after that it it's full steam ahead.
- 12:18And if any of you have driven by the RFK side, you can see
- 12:22they're working on this thing to make sure it is in fact going to
- 12:25be ready by 2030. And I for one, cannot wait to be
- 12:28there for the groundbreaking when that first shovel is in the
- 12:30dirt. And I cannot wait to be there
- 12:33for, I'm assuming it's got to be week one of the NFL season in
- 12:3720-30 there. There's no way they make us Week
- 12:392 right after all this waiting in the pomp and circumstance
- 12:42that they can't make us wait another week.
- 12:44But I cannot wait to be there for the new RFK.
- 12:47And I know there's a lot of our listeners out there that are
- 12:50curious what's going to happen with PS LS?
- 12:52What's going to happen with tailgating?
- 12:54You know, where am I going to park?
- 12:55How's all this going to happen? Trust me, Rally and I are going
- 12:59to do what we can to be your voice, to raise your concerns
- 13:05with the organization and the proper people over there to make
- 13:09sure that it doesn't fall on deaf ears.
- 13:11Because yes, tailgating is a concern.
- 13:14But for me, PS LS are even bigger a concern because from a
- 13:17tailgating perspective, guys, we're resilient.
- 13:20We're going to find a way to tailgate.
- 13:21There might not be the exact same thing that we've been doing
- 13:23for the past 20 years at Northwest Stadium, but
- 13:26realistically, we'll find a way. We'll adapt, but just know that
- 13:32we're going to be fighting for you to make sure that everyone's
- 13:36questions are answered. And I do know that they said,
- 13:39you know the last hearing I was in that we should expect PS LS
- 13:43come 2026. Just know that I have been in
- 13:46contact with the organization to have a follow up meeting
- 13:48regarding that to talk about payment plans and things and
- 13:52messaging back to fans because we deserve the right to just
- 13:57understand what's going on. And I want to make sure they
- 13:59understand from our perspective. Hey, offering me a Nosebleed
- 14:04seat when I've been sitting downstairs in my family's seats
- 14:08for almost 30 years does not constitute saving me money on
- 14:14APSL, right? I, I get that they're going to
- 14:16want to keep premium seats downstairs.
- 14:19That's just what every team does.
- 14:20I'm looking hopefully to go to Sofi.
- 14:22Probably won't be able to make it, but who knows.
- 14:24But the lower ball, particularly between the actual goal lines,
- 14:28is club level. So some of us that are in that
- 14:32lower area today might not be able to sit there just because
- 14:35that's the club section or probably where the club sections
- 14:38going to be. And we might have to move up to
- 14:40maybe where our 200 level is now or maybe where the 300 level is
- 14:43the actual club level. Because those PS LS are going to
- 14:46be cheaper because they won't be club.
- 14:48But just know that we're going to be your voice.
- 14:50And if you guys have something you want to get back to them,
- 14:53tweet us, message us, get a hold of us.
- 14:56Rally is at rally Captain, I'm at tailgate.
- 14:58Ted, you watch the show. Odds are you, you know what our
- 15:02handles are. You know how to find us.
- 15:03You know how to get a hold of us.
- 15:05But I'd be remiss if I didn't talk about how yesterday went.
- 15:09And after the vote happened, I ended up having a couple
- 15:12cocktails with some of the people to just celebrate.
- 15:15Charles Mann was out there. He was actually, I think he was
- 15:18working at Monumental Sports doing construction for the
- 15:24Capital One Arena project. So he came in very Incognito in
- 15:29jeans and AT shirt and just went to go talk to Zachary Parker,
- 15:35Louise George and another one of the council members just to tell
- 15:38him his support and why this needs to happen.
- 15:40And I'm not sure if that's what helped get across the goal line,
- 15:43but I am sure that several, the council members talked multiple
- 15:49times about your phone calls, your emails, just reaching out.
- 15:54You guys made a difference. Our listeners made a difference.
- 15:58And thank you all for contacting them.
- 16:01You know, we, we put the bat signal out there for you guys
- 16:04and you answered and you answered in droves.
- 16:07I actually had a council members office call me and say you can
- 16:11stop now. This is this is not enough is
- 16:14enough. But the vote is over with.
- 16:16Everything's passed and it actually passed with more
- 16:20members than the original 1 did. So I'm happy to say we're going
- 16:24to be back in DC and best believe we're popping champagne
- 16:28at the tailgate that first week and I hope you guys are all
- 16:31going to be there with me. But with that being said, I want
- 16:34to get into this match up with the Raiders.
- 16:38Not sure what's going to happen this week, right?
- 16:40We got a tough test and it's not tough specifically because it's
- 16:44the Raiders stuff because don't know who's going to be playing
- 16:48quarterback. The team has to designate
- 16:52someone to give a talk on Wednesdays that is a
- 16:56quarterback. Typically it's a starting
- 16:58quarterback. Well, this Wednesday, yesterday
- 17:01it was Marcus Mariota. Marcus ended up going to the
- 17:04podium and it wasn't Jaden. Jaden was ADNP.
- 17:07We had a lot of guys on that DNP list.
- 17:10I'm not surprised. I think Eckler got a rest day,
- 17:14Tonsil got a rest day, Bobby Wagner got a rest day.
- 17:17My rebuttal is we hadn't played since Thursday.
- 17:21You really need a rest day. It it seemed kind of odd to me
- 17:25that they got that. But hey, I mean, Coach Quinn
- 17:29knows what he's doing with these guys.
- 17:31The other guys that were DNP, John Bates, no Brown and Jayden
- 17:36Daniels, right? And I really don't know if James
- 17:40going to play. I'm not too sure what's going to
- 17:42happen, but this is DQ talking about what the game plan is for
- 17:45Jayden for the rest of the week. What is the plan for Jayden
- 17:48today and then the rest of the week?
- 17:49Sure. So Jayden had good rehab session
- 17:53today. He also threw out in the field.
- 17:55He won't practice today. And then as we get into Friday,
- 17:58I'll give you an. Assessment of where we're at
- 18:01for, you know, after we go through practice on Friday.
- 18:05So a lot of fans, a lot of shows have been debating should he
- 18:10play, should he play if he isn't it 100% and should he just sit
- 18:15this week out? We get 17 games, 17 games to see
- 18:21who's the best of the best. So this isn't baseball where you
- 18:26have what 162? This isn't basketball where you
- 18:29got players are doing load management and just sitting out
- 18:32because you know they want to take the day off.
- 18:34I'm sure there's other reasons, but it just it feels that way
- 18:37for me sometimes. It's why I gave up my wizard
- 18:39season tickets. Well, one of many reasons.
- 18:41They're also horrible to watch and not a fan fun experience.
- 18:44But if Telly Oz hears that, hey, let him know.
- 18:48But I on the mindset of you got a couple things going for you.
- 18:53You've got an AFC team you're playing.
- 18:57So when it comes down to record in the end, it doesn't hurt as
- 19:01much because we're not an NFC team.
- 19:02All right, you have a tough matchup after this.
- 19:08We're the Chargers. Granted, once again, it's also
- 19:11an AFC team, but it's still a damn tough match up against the
- 19:14Chargers. I think the Riggers, you know,
- 19:18are going to be a heck of a lot easier competition than the
- 19:20Chargers. I am of the mindset of this is a
- 19:24marathon. It's not a Sprint, right?
- 19:27If Jaden can get back to being even a couple percentage points
- 19:33healthier from not playing this week, I have faith that Marcus
- 19:38and the other guys on that roster can ultimately get us
- 19:42that W at the end of the day. Right.
- 19:45And I know that's not a popular opinion.
- 19:47I know that there's some out that are saying I'll take Jaden
- 19:49at 7080% / 100% Marcus. I personally wouldn't.
- 19:55But what can you expect from Marcus?
- 19:58This is actually what DQ had to say about that.
- 20:02With Marcus, you guys were slow and bringing him back, making
- 20:06sure he was back from the Achilles.
- 20:09From what you saw last year, what you've seen from him, the
- 20:11confidence level I know is high. What do you expect from him?
- 20:15Yeah, if called upon. We would certainly expect.
- 20:18Marcus to deliver in the fashion that he does.
- 20:20He has been. Like a real standard as a
- 20:23commander, player, teammate in elite ways and so.
- 20:28Each player that we would feature, they'd be featured.
- 20:31And not exactly the same way, although mobility for him and
- 20:34Jayden and, you know, kind of coming up in similar styles, but
- 20:39not exactly the same also. So for all the guys we have, you
- 20:42know, ways that we feature them and how we play if called upon.
- 20:45And that's what we'll do. But yeah, we have like the
- 20:49utmost confidence in him. So Mariota had Achilles
- 20:53tendonitis, didn't do anything in training camp or the
- 20:56preseason. It was honestly kind of
- 20:59frustrating there. They didn't really talk about.
- 21:01They didn't really speak about it and all you saw or all you
- 21:05really assumed was, OK, Johnson and Hartman are just competing
- 21:10for that third spot. That's why Mario is not getting
- 21:12anything. No, actually, that's probably
- 21:15why. One of the reasons, but he also
- 21:17had Achilles tendonitis. He didn't get any reps with the
- 21:21team. So we're back at that.
- 21:23He didn't get reps with the ones Jayden didn't get.
- 21:26Jayden didn't get a ton of reps with the ones.
- 21:28How rusty is he going to be? How rusty is this offense going
- 21:31to be? When Mariota did get called in,
- 21:34it was against, let's see here, last year he came in in the
- 21:41Cleveland game, the Browns game, the Panthers game and the
- 21:45Cowboys game, right? His PFF grade for the Cowboys
- 21:49game was at 85. Oh sorry, an 88.
- 21:52And the Carolina game was an 85. I mean, he stepped in and he
- 21:55stepped in admirably. He did a heck of a job, but it
- 21:58is one thing to step in when you're the backup coming off the
- 22:02bench. It's another thing to step in
- 22:04when a team is game planning for you and they know your
- 22:08tendencies and they can devise schemes to combat that.
- 22:12Good news is Coach Quinn is not telling them who is going to be
- 22:16back on the field. But from his standpoint, he does
- 22:20need to see Jayden on the field this week before he's going to
- 22:23clear him to play on Sunday. This is actually DQ talking
- 22:25about what he has to see before he'll let 5 play.
- 22:30Do you need to see him back on the field with the rest of the
- 22:32team before? You feel OK?
- 22:33Yeah, I would. It's important timing reps the
- 22:37movements, but it was a good first step.
- 22:39To it, Nikki, But yeah, we'd have to get, you know, some reps
- 22:42for sure. So the injury report isn't out
- 22:44yet by the time I'm recording this on Thursday, so I I don't
- 22:48know what Jayden's doing. I also don't know if a walk
- 22:51through on a Saturday is going to be sufficient enough for DQ
- 22:55to let 5 play if the doctors medically clear him.
- 22:59He's talking about timing. I'm going to walk through.
- 23:04You're not going to get timing from guys just standing there
- 23:07and going out, you know, 1/2 pace.
- 23:10So we'll see what that means. But one thing that does concern
- 23:13me is and rally, and I brought up on the last show, Josh
- 23:16Connolly, junior, What's he going to do?
- 23:18Is he going to be able to handle this Raiders pass rush?
- 23:21He's going to be able to handle Max Crosby.
- 23:23And I had a lot of time to kill yesterday, sitting in those
- 23:26council chambers waiting for the beginning to start.
- 23:29I went back and looked at all the film for the past two weeks
- 23:32of the Raiders, every single snap, slow motion.
- 23:37Because let me tell you, I had a lot of time to kill.
- 23:39But I also went back to a couple games last year.
- 23:41And Crosby, he's not Micah, all right?
- 23:46No one is Micah, but he's maybe a couple tears below.
- 23:50And this guy does not quit. And he does give me some
- 23:54concerns. This is actually DQ talking
- 23:56about Max Crosby as a defensive line expert.
- 24:02What would you say makes Max Crosby as effective as he is,
- 24:06and what kind of adjustments do you need to make to account for
- 24:11him? Yeah.
- 24:13I think the first two. Things that come to mind when I
- 24:15think of him. This is like elite, elite.
- 24:17Effort and like, OK, yeah. I've heard that a lot.
- 24:20But I'm saying it's at the. Upper range of it where?
- 24:23He can stamina to go hard over and over again.
- 24:27He's got Great Bend. By that I mean he can slip and
- 24:29slide in between a tight end, a tackle and then the skill work
- 24:34of it. He loves pass rush like.
- 24:35Vaughn And so for those two, you know, kind of doing the pass
- 24:39rush summit, there's a a level of studying and preparation
- 24:44instincts. I would say are a big part of
- 24:45that, but. Man do I love.
- 24:47The first step. Quickness and just the absolute
- 24:49dog of a competitor. Sometimes you don't win on the
- 24:53first move. And you have to stay relentless
- 24:55and that is absolutely, you know, been part of his career.
- 25:00Crosby has a motor, does not quit.
- 25:07I have this guy, I don't know if he just chop on synergies right
- 25:09before the game or before every defensive Dr. he's out there on,
- 25:13but when you think a play is done, he just comes out of
- 25:15nowhere. I mean, he just constantly is
- 25:17running and moving and just never stops his feet.
- 25:19And I'm concerned about him going up against Connelly,
- 25:23right? If we don't have John Bates this
- 25:25week, who was the DNP? All right, and you know what?
- 25:28Let DQ talk about John Bates's status for this week.
- 25:33I'm John Bates also experiencing injury.
- 25:36Any update on on him? And if he does have to be out,
- 25:39how do you all have to fill that void from his blocking ability?
- 25:42Yeah, yeah, we all know how. John's so rare.
- 25:45In that way on the. Blocking side so.
- 25:47It wouldn't be in exactly the same way.
- 25:49Like you don't just, you know, plug and play into that.
- 25:51Spot. I feel like we're pretty diverse
- 25:53in how we would have to go after it, but it would be, you know,
- 25:57something that would be. Difficult in that spot.
- 26:00We'll see where we look like by Friday like.
- 26:02I said as I'm going through with John, I'm in that same spot.
- 26:05Of where are we we're? Going to make good decisions for
- 26:07the guys and they're working. Hard having the extra time.
- 26:10Is helpful, meaning like a longer, you know, time in
- 26:14between the two games. But there's a couple.
- 26:16That I'm still in the wait and see mode and position.
- 26:19Specific work. Then we'll get into, you know.
- 26:22Tomorrow, today, we're going to be indoors.
- 26:25Many you. Know did things through the
- 26:27walkthrough and then see we are tomorrow so I'm.
- 26:29Still going to wait and see with a couple guys.
- 26:34Earlier this past Monday, Coach said that he did not think that
- 26:37Bates had no one. We're going to play.
- 26:39It concerns me, right? We have a weakness at our
- 26:42offensive line. I, I want Wiley to start Coach
- 26:46saying it's a competition. If Connolly has beat out Wiley,
- 26:50then that is concerning. I, I don't know if I believe
- 26:54that 1000% that Connolly has beaten out Wiley.
- 26:57I think they're maybe just letting him sharpen his teeth.
- 27:00But right now he's putting our offense at risk, right?
- 27:05We have an issue. We are missing one of the best
- 27:08blocking tight ends in the league and we have a right
- 27:11tackle, a rookie right tackle who is going up against some
- 27:14world beaters and we got to give him some help.
- 27:18Bill's going to get RB one most likely right.
- 27:20C Rod is going to be out there. You're going to have Mcnichols.
- 27:24How is Bill in pass protection? How was he picking up a blitz?
- 27:28All right? How is he going to handle that
- 27:30pressure coming off that side? Crosby also lines up in
- 27:33different spots, right? He doesn't just stick directly
- 27:36over the right tackle. I saw a couple times over the
- 27:38left tackle. I mean, Tunsil jumped last week
- 27:41when Michael was in front of him, had a false start penalty,
- 27:44right? The guy wreaks havoc.
- 27:45Not the same degree, but right now the way our offense is
- 27:49running, which is very poorly, it doesn't have to be the same
- 27:52degree for him to cause a difference.
- 27:55If John can't go, I want to see Trent Scott out there.
- 28:00I want to see him lined up as an ex tackle to help Chip, to help
- 28:07do something because we have got to get this running and going.
- 28:10We have got to get it off the ground if we want to walk out of
- 28:13Northwest Stadium with a win, if we want to head out to LA, go
- 28:16out to the West Coast to be up one.
- 28:19If you looked at the first four games this season, I mean, some
- 28:23would think that we could potentially be 3 and 1.
- 28:26I didn't think that we would go four and out.
- 28:27I got to go back and look at Ragnar's prediction.
- 28:30But three and one would be phenomenal.
- 28:35If we lose this week and we go out to LA, there's a good
- 28:39possibility we could be one in three.
- 28:41The Chargers are no joke. The Chargers are a heck of a
- 28:45team and they beat the Chiefs and they crushed Raiders, right?
- 28:51It was a horrible game for Gino. Gino threw 3 picks.
- 28:53So not even getting into their offense and how inept it's been.
- 28:58But I don't believe them. I want us to dominate this thing
- 29:03from the start to the end and let's just run this ball and
- 29:07ground pound it and give Jaden another week to actually get
- 29:10healthy. If I go back and look at that
- 29:12Chargers game, a majority of Herbert's passes were from play
- 29:15action. And let's see here, 91% he had
- 29:21actually ended up getting were play action passes, right?
- 29:24He did a damn good job. And that just led to the fact
- 29:27that the Chargers had a good run game.
- 29:29You got to keep their defense on their toes.
- 29:32The Raiders run shocker, something that we have an issue
- 29:35with a predominant zone scheme. Approximately 67% of their snaps
- 29:41are in zone. Guess who else ran a zone
- 29:44scheme? The Packers.
- 29:46Packers ran zone and we did not do anything to try and combat
- 29:50it. I really feel that that is an
- 29:53issue with the play calling we had last week against Green Bay.
- 29:56And this scatter report isn't new.
- 29:59That's just what they do. That's how they game plan.
- 30:02Same thing for Green Bay. We need Kingsbury to step it up
- 30:06and put some zone beaters in there.
- 30:07And finally, when they just, we put some man beaters in there, I
- 30:11just, I don't feel that our coaching staff has adapted to
- 30:14what other people have done to adapt to us because we have
- 30:18tendencies, other teams have tendencies.
- 30:20And I got this from ChatGPT right?
- 30:22You can sit here and find all these different tendencies out.
- 30:25If I can find this stuff, best believe they can find this.
- 30:28So there should be a game plan in place to make this an easier
- 30:34when heading to this week. The spread dropped from 6 1/2 to
- 30:373 1/2 depending on where you end up getting your numbers.
- 30:39And believe it or not, NFL has this only dropped one spot from
- 30:43a power Ranger perspective. Looking at this, we were 7th
- 30:46last week. It's gossip 8th now that
- 30:49actually says Jane Daniels. Availability for Week 3 is now
- 30:52up in the air after he suffered a knee Sprint against the
- 30:54Packers. Per NFL Network insiders Ian
- 30:57Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, the injury rekindles concerns about
- 31:00his pass protection. The Commanders have faced 2 good
- 31:02pass rushing teams and the results have been decidedly
- 31:05mixed. Another concerning pass rusher
- 31:08is on the schedule in a Week 3 with the Raiders Max Crosby
- 31:11coming to town and Washington might have to turn to Marcus
- 31:13Mariota to start against his old team.
- 31:15The Commanders invested major resources and grain the online
- 31:18this offseason, but the results have yet to pay off.
- 31:21They also need to get Terry McCullough going after we caught
- 31:257 passes for 75 yards on 13 targets in the first two games.
- 31:29Maybe he'll suit. Maybe he's still ramping up
- 31:31after missing a chunk of training camp during his hold
- 31:33in. If Daniel's injury is a one week
- 31:36thing, perhaps a panic meter remains low.
- 31:38But Washington has four out of five games on the road
- 31:41thereafter, and the team is dealing with multiple offensive
- 31:44issues, right? The pass protection is a
- 31:48problem. Guess what offensive lineman
- 31:51don't like doing just pass protecting and sitting on their
- 31:55heels. Guess what they would rather do
- 31:56any day of the week? Run block.
- 31:59We got to run the damn ball, right?
- 32:01You guys saw something in Bill. Feed him, give him the ball,
- 32:05give him the carries, let him work, right?
- 32:08Throw C Rod in there. You kept Chris Rodriguez on the
- 32:11roster for a reason. I understand he was a healthy
- 32:14scratch last week and he was a ton of last season.
- 32:17Stop scratching him. Give him a chance.
- 32:20Make this easier on Mariota and Jaden if he's in there and
- 32:25soften up that defense. Make them have to worry about
- 32:27that run. The way you attack a pass rusher
- 32:30is you run at them this way, they're running at that ball
- 32:34carrier and not sure what's happening.
- 32:36Run at him with that play action pass makes them slow down their
- 32:39pass rush, right? These things are just it's
- 32:41football one O 1 and heading into this week, look, a lot of
- 32:45fans are automatically thinking this is a dub.
- 32:48I'm sorry, I I just, I don't know if I can agree with you.
- 32:52The Raiders beat the Pats in week 120 to 13, right?
- 32:56They got a linebacker there, Jamaal Adams.
- 32:57The guy's a stud, right? And guess what?
- 33:00They're coming here. What we have on our favor is the
- 33:04Raiders played Monday night and they're traveling from the West
- 33:06Coast to the East Coast. It's a short week.
- 33:08So maybe their battery is going to be a little bit empty, maybe
- 33:12we're going to have an advantage of the fourth quarter because
- 33:15they haven't got a ton of rest. But the fact of the matter is
- 33:18they do have some studs on their team.
- 33:19Brock Bowers, who is not 100%, but he is a stud tight end.
- 33:24The guy can just flat out ball. And after what happened last
- 33:29week with Kraft going up against our linebackers and our defense,
- 33:33it concerns me. DQ has some concerns about
- 33:36facing the Raiders as well. Let's hear from him.
- 33:39Hey, coach. And looking at the the Raiders,
- 33:42what comes to mind first in facing them?
- 33:45Gino Smith is under the center. What do you see in that team?
- 33:49Yeah. There's a lot to like they.
- 33:51Have obviously talk about Gino like he's got one of the
- 33:54strongest arms like can absolutely RIP the ball I.
- 33:57Think they got really good tight end group.
- 33:59They've got speed and. Route runners at receiver.
- 34:02I think an excellent running back, especially in terms of
- 34:04breaking. Tackle so.
- 34:05When you put all those together. Run game, tight ends.
- 34:08Receivers strong on quarterback. You can see that's what I
- 34:11thought of first and then on the.
- 34:13D side I like. You know, the ends, the rushers.
- 34:16That they have Koontz's. Back, they've got veteran
- 34:19strong. Linebackers Donna that are
- 34:20inside a safety that we know well and Chin, who's just down
- 34:24the box and tackling. Well, so when you look at them,
- 34:28you know, you see OK, featuring players identity, style,
- 34:32attitude. And a lot to like, you know, in
- 34:35terms. Of who they are, and certainly
- 34:37with the running. Back and the tight end, like
- 34:39these are some really talented guys, you know, who are young
- 34:42guys just kind of on their way up.
- 34:43So whatever, hands full. They're NFL players.
- 34:50They're pros. They get paid too.
- 34:52So any of you thinking this is going to be an easy win against
- 34:54Oakland, stop fooling yourselves.
- 34:57Our team has not proven right now that it's the same team that
- 35:01we watched last season. I'm going to have some concerns,
- 35:03especially if we've got a quarterback, a franchise
- 35:06quarterback in Jay and who we don't know is going to play.
- 35:08Especially if we are missing a key compare of our offense, John
- 35:13Bates, Especially if we've got a rookie right tackle out there
- 35:16who has not proved that he can actually do the job yet.
- 35:20Rally and I each week talk about who needs to step up for us to
- 35:24get this W who needs to step up this week to make sure that he
- 35:28and I are both walking out and all of you that are listening,
- 35:32walking out of Northwest Stadium with a smile, right?
- 35:35I want to light a victory cigar. I didn't get the light one this
- 35:37past week against the Packers. I was going to sit on my deck
- 35:40with my fire pit at 1:00 in the morning and smoke that victory
- 35:44cigar. It's still waiting, still
- 35:46waiting to be lit for me this week.
- 35:48The only way I get a chance to light that is if the running
- 35:53game gets moving, if the big boys up front do their job, earn
- 35:58their paycheck and actually block, right.
- 36:01We need to move this ball. We are 33% on 3rd down.
- 36:05It's not acceptable, not by any means, right?
- 36:08Josh Connolly, badass what? Whoever is out there, I need you
- 36:13guys to step up this week and make sure that you protect
- 36:17Jayden or Marcus or whoever's throwing that ball and make sure
- 36:21you open up some running lanes for Bill C, Rod Mcnichol,
- 36:25whoever it may be. Because if we control that, we
- 36:28control that line of scrimmage, we win this game on Sunday.
- 36:33I'm taking us. I'm taking us to win.
- 36:36I think we cover this spread. If you guys bet 3 1/2.
- 36:40The six point spread scared me, right?
- 36:42Especially you would Jaden being hurt.
- 36:43Luckily it dropped, but I am thinking we pulled this off this
- 36:47week and then we fly out to LA and take on a tough Chargers
- 36:52team, but we'll worry about that another time.
- 36:55We are planning on having Rally back for the next one, but we
- 36:57want to make sure we got this out to you guys just because of
- 37:00the momentous thing that happened in history yesterday
- 37:04for this team and for the city. And we'd be remiss if we didn't
- 37:08celebrate that with you guys. It's going to be it's going to
- 37:11be crazy while we're in for some fun next couple of months, next
- 37:14couple of years as I started announcing more stuff at the
- 37:16stadium. But I hope to see you guys out
- 37:19of Northwest. I know Rally's going to be
- 37:20making his rounds and all the tailgate lots.
- 37:22Make sure you tell him what's up, pass him a shot.
- 37:26But for those of you listening, I'd use his trademark.
- 37:29But I don't want to have to pay him any money.
- 37:30I appreciate it. Guys, take care.
