- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn German with Fexingo. Luna: Hey Lucas, glad to be here. I've been thinking about food all day. Lucas: Oh, perfect timing. Today we're learning two very useful cooking verbs: kochen and backen. Luna: Kochen means to cook, right? And backen is to bake? Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with kochen. Repeat after me: Ich koche gern. Luna: Ich koche gern. That means 'I like to cook'? Lucas: Yes. Ich koche gern. Let's use it in a tiny scene. Imagine you're at a party and someone asks about your hobbies. Luna: Was machst du gern? Ich koche gern. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's try backen. Ich backe einen Kuchen. Luna: Ich backe einen Kuchen. I bake a cake. Yeah, sounds tasty. Lucas: Yes. Ich backe einen Kuchen. Notice the verb backen changes a bit: ich backe, du backst, er backt. Luna: So for you, Lucas, it would be du backst. Backst du einen Kuchen? Lucas: Ja, backst du einen Kuchen? That's a great question. Let's practice that: Backst du einen Kuchen? Luna: Backst du einen Kuchen? Backst du Brot? I can ask: Backst du Brot? Lucas: Yes. Backst du Brot? Do you bake bread? Let's say that together. Backst du Brot? Luna: Backst du Brot? Ich backe Brot. Oh, I can say that about myself. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's combine them. Wir kochen zusammen. We cook together. Luna: Wir kochen zusammen. That's nice. Me and a friend cooking together. Lucas: Right. Wir kochen zusammen. Let's repeat all five phrases slowly. First: Ich koche gern. Luna: Ich koche gern. Lucas: Ich backe einen Kuchen. Luna: Ich backe einen Kuchen. Lucas: Kochst du oft? Luna: Kochst du oft?
