Governor Dan McKee is pushing to let state workers and teachers retire early under the “Rule of 90” — if your age plus years of service hit 90, you’re eligible for full pension. Designed to undo 2011 cuts that sparked backlash, the plan could cost taxpayers $12.7 million in Year One and up to $106 million long-term, slightly worsening Rhode Island’s pension gap.
