- 0:04This is Living Waters of Grace, the teaching ministry of Lewis
- 0:08Harold, assistant pastor of Calvary Chapel of Westmoreland
- 0:12County in Greensburg, PA. Now here's Pastor Lewis as he
- 0:16continues teaching through God's Word.
- 0:37And even our leadership did it in 2015 and drape the entire
- 0:44White House with the rainbow for gay pride.
- 0:49God have mercy on us. Have mercy on us.
- 0:56And then again, even with the chance to transgenderism, if we
- 1:01go to Genesis, back in Genesis chapter 1 and verse 27, it's
- 1:07very clear. In my opinion, it's very clear.
- 1:12Gender and sexuality are topics that are leading in culture
- 1:16today, being discussed often. The world has a very specific
- 1:20opinion about these topics. Gender is fluid and sexuality is
- 1:24whatever you decide it is. But is that what the Bible
- 1:29teaches? No.
- 1:31God created men and women distinctly, and sexuality is
- 1:35meant to be enjoyed in the context of marriage between one
- 1:38man and one woman for life. Pastor Lewis reminds us of this
- 1:43biblical truth today and encourages us to stand strong no
- 1:47matter what our world says now. Here's Pastor Lewis in the Book
- 1:51of Second Timothy, Chapter 3, with today's edition of Living
- 1:55Waters of Grace. Let each of you look on not only
- 2:00he says not only he's not saying that you never look on your own
- 2:03interest, but he says don't look only on your interest, but also
- 2:07on the entrance, on the entrance of others with this self love,
- 2:12this pride. It's it's love instead of
- 2:16worshipping and loving God, OK. When we love ourselves instead
- 2:21of worshipping and loving God, what they do is that they love
- 2:25themselves and make gods of themselves and become users of
- 2:30people for their benefit. And that's one of the dangers of
- 2:34loving self because we begin to instead of loving people, we use
- 2:38people, we use people for our own benefit.
- 2:42The next one he talks about, he talks about the lovers of money,
- 2:47lovers of money. And when you love money, it be
- 2:51you become covetous because you want what money can give you.
- 2:54And that's a part of self love. Become lovers of money.
- 2:59You go out and go get the things that give you pleasure, the
- 3:01things that feel your lusts. And instead of using things like
- 3:06money, which is provided by God to provide for our own needs,
- 3:11instead of using them for that, or use them to glorify God, or
- 3:14use them using money to bless other people, instead of using
- 3:19it that way, we love money and make idols out of the money and
- 3:23the things and often things. But we use people instead of
- 3:28using money. We instead use people instead of
- 3:31loving people. So it's a misplaced love there.
- 3:35It's a misplaced love. We should be loving others, but
- 3:38instead we love things and we use others.
- 3:43We get it backwards there. We get it backwards there.
- 3:46And what Paul is saying that in these last days people will
- 3:48misplace their love. They'll love themselves and
- 3:51things instead of loving God and loving others and using things
- 3:58for God's glory. The next one he says is
- 4:01boasters. He talks about these boasters.
- 4:04Boasters. This is vaunting and praising
- 4:07themselves. If we are to boast.
- 4:10The Bible tells us that if we do boast, we are.
- 4:13We should boast in the Lord and not in ourselves.
- 4:17The boasters are people who like to make I statements.
- 4:21I statements. I did this, I did that.
- 4:25I have this or I have that. I have this ability or I have
- 4:31that ability. I'm I'm this and I'm that.
- 4:35It's a lot of I statements enjoy telling you things that they've
- 4:40done to help somebody else or things that they have done that
- 4:44promotes themselves. It's vaunting, it's prideful,
- 4:48and these things come directly. This boasting comes directly
- 4:52from Satan himself. If you look back in Isaiah
- 4:55chapter 14, verses 13 and 14, I'll just read it to you.
- 4:59You don't have to turn there, but it says, for you have said
- 5:03in your heart, I will ascend into heaven.
- 5:06I will exalt my throne above the stars of God.
- 5:10I will sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest
- 5:15sides of the north. I will ascend above the heights
- 5:19of the clouds. I will be like the Most High all
- 5:24these I statements I will, I will, I will, I can, I can, I
- 5:30did, I did beware of these I statement These are people who
- 5:34are full of pride, full of pride.
- 5:37Psalm 32 and two says this my soul shall make its boast in the
- 5:42Lord and the humble shall hear of it and be glad and I just
- 5:47also want to read for you Jeremiah.
- 5:49This is one of my favorite verses actually, when it talks
- 5:52about boasting and talks about who we should boast or how we
- 5:56should boast. But in Jeremiah 9 and 23, he
- 5:59says, Thus says the Lord, let not the wise man glory in his
- 6:03wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, let not the
- 6:08rich man glory in his riches. But let him who glories or let
- 6:13him who boasts, let him boast in this that he understands and
- 6:19knows me, that I am the Lord, exercising loving kindness,
- 6:24judgement, and righteousness in the earth.
- 6:27For these things, in these things I delight, says the Lord.
- 6:32If we are to love somebody, we're to boast.
- 6:35If we're to glory in anything, it should be in the Lord,
- 6:39because no matter what it is that we have anything of any
- 6:41significance, anything that's any good, it comes from Him.
- 6:46We don't have anything of our own, anything.
- 6:50It all comes from him. So where are we able to boast?
- 6:54In Second Corinthians 10/17 it says, But he who glories or he
- 7:00who boast, let him boast in the Lord.
- 7:06And then he and then he talks about this, this pride, this
- 7:09pride, these the next one is proud.
- 7:12These people are proud, they're arrogant of themselves, they are
- 7:18wise in their own hearts. And pride actually leads to
- 7:22rebellion against God all the time.
- 7:25Pride leads to rebellion against God and and pride, you know,
- 7:28what pride mostly comes in at is in our reluctance or in our
- 7:33neglect to pray because when things are going well, we feel
- 7:36like we got it. We got it.
- 7:39You know, I'm Lord, I got this now.
- 7:41I don't need you man, not for this.
- 7:45So we don't pray, we stop praying.
- 7:48Praying is one of the most important parts of our humility.
- 7:53It shows our humility. If there's anything that shows
- 7:55our humility, most it's it's our prayer time.
- 7:57When we go into prayer and we surrender to the Lord and we let
- 8:03Him know how helpless and powerless we are and how great
- 8:09and how mighty he is, that's where our prayer time is about
- 8:16in many cases. And and when we don't pray, it's
- 8:19a sign of our pride. The arrogance to think that we
- 8:23can handle things on our own or the Lord is the last one that we
- 8:27do go to for prayer. When we pray, we look at every
- 8:31other Ave. look at every other resource, everything else, and
- 8:35then we go to the Lord. It's like, well, this is my last
- 8:38resort. It shouldn't be our last resort.
- 8:40It should be the first thing we do.
- 8:43This should be the first thing that we do.
- 8:46So pride does lead to rebellion eventually reach it leads to
- 8:50rebellion against God and against his word.
- 8:54There's some biblical examples of this rebellion, you know, for
- 8:58example, the Tower of Babel, that is an example of rebellion
- 9:03against God. When God opened the the door of
- 9:08the ark and he let Noah and his three sons out, he told him to
- 9:12be fruitful, multiply and spread it over the earth, go out
- 9:16throughout the whole earth, fill the whole earth.
- 9:18Don't just go to one place, He said, fill the whole earth.
- 9:23But then these people came to Babel, Shinar, which is
- 9:27basically Babylon. He came there and, and, and
- 9:29instead of doing what God told him to do, they said we want to
- 9:34stop here and we're going to make a city here and we are
- 9:39going to build a tower here that's going to go up to the
- 9:42heavens. Because we can do anything of
- 9:46ourselves if we just stick together and we put our minds to
- 9:49it. There's nothing that we can't
- 9:52do. We don't have to obey that
- 9:56commandment to go spread out that let's all stay together.
- 10:00Let's be of one language. So Tower of Babel, we're not
- 10:04going to do it, Lord, we're not going to spread out.
- 10:07We're not going to go out. We're going to all stay
- 10:08together. But God is God.
- 10:12If you don't submit to his will, He will make you willing to
- 10:15submit to his will when he desires to.
- 10:18And that's exactly what he did with them.
- 10:21Pharaoh. That's another example of
- 10:24someone who just wanted to rebel against God.
- 10:27Let my people go. No, I'm not letting your people
- 10:29go. Who are you, God?
- 10:30Who is your God that I should listen to him?
- 10:35Total rebellion. Pharaoh thought he was a God
- 10:37himself. Total rebellion, and God had to
- 10:42humble him as well. Well, we're seeing a lot of
- 10:45rebellion today. We see it also today.
- 10:49Look at the rebellion that we have in the sexual immorality of
- 10:55our life. You know, people, you know, God
- 10:57said this is marriage and this is where sex belongs.
- 11:00It belongs in marriage. It's the marriage bed that is
- 11:04honorable and undefiled. But fornicators and adulterers,
- 11:11God will judge. It's what the Scripture says in
- 11:14Hebrews. But today we have people and I
- 11:19did it. I was in rebellion against God.
- 11:21At one point I thought, I don't need to get married.
- 11:23I could just live with this woman, I love her.
- 11:26God said no, no, it was in rebellion.
- 11:31And today it's in rebellion. When people live together as
- 11:33opposed to get married, I can. It's basically them saying I
- 11:37don't have to listen to God's command.
- 11:39I can do what I want to do. I can be with who I want to be.
- 11:44I don't need some piece of paper to tell me that I'm married.
- 11:49I don't need to stand before God and make a commitment to him to
- 11:53say that I'm married. Well, it's God's institution.
- 11:56Yes, we do. He make this institution.
- 12:01He put this institution in place.
- 12:03We didn't do it ourselves. It's rebellion against him when
- 12:07we don't do it his way. It's also rebellion with this
- 12:12gay, with this, this marriage of, of gay pride in this
- 12:15marriage even in fact, they even call it gay pride.
- 12:18It's them. It's, it's them being prideful
- 12:21and basically saying, God, I'll tell you what, my God, no, God
- 12:25said marriage is between a man and a woman.
- 12:28It's between a man. For this reason, shall a man
- 12:32leave his wife and be 1 flesh? I mean, I'm sorry, a man should
- 12:38leave his mother and his father and be joined to his wife and be
- 12:421 flesh for that reason only. A man leaving his wife and every
- 12:48wife is a woman, every wife is a woman leaves his man leaves his
- 12:53wife and and and leaves his family and goes to be joined
- 12:56together with his wife. But now in our society we say we
- 13:00don't have to do it that way because you say it.
- 13:04I can be in love with whoever I want to be in love with.
- 13:08I'll join myself to whoever I want to join myself to.
- 13:13I don't have to listen to you God concerning that.
- 13:17And he already he told us that in Genesis chapter 2 and he told
- 13:21us again, Jesus even said it. And I, you know, I, I, I
- 13:24shouldn't, I shouldn't and I admit it that I shouldn't.
- 13:29But I do get a little annoyed when I hear people say Jesus
- 13:33never talked about gay people not being able to get married or
- 13:37not being able to be together. He most certainly did in Matthew
- 13:4119 when he repeated the same thing that God his father.
- 13:46He said it back in Genesis chapter 2.
- 13:51For this reason, a man shall leave his father and his mother
- 13:56and be joined to his wife. What is Jesus telling us?
- 14:01Marriage is between a man and a woman, and anything else that
- 14:07people want to call marriage other than that is in rebellion.
- 14:12It's in rebellion and even go as far as they call it gay pride.
- 14:16They admit it. It's our pride that we do this
- 14:21out of rebellion. And then it goes even further.
- 14:24They took the rainbow that God gave to Noah as a sign that he
- 14:30will not destroy the earth again by water.
- 14:33They took that sign, that covenant sign that was from God,
- 14:42and they put it on their banner. And even our leadership did it
- 14:48in 2015 and draped the entire White House with the rainbow for
- 14:56gay pride. God have mercy on us.
- 15:02Have mercy on us. And then again, even with the
- 15:06chance to transgenderism, if we go to Genesis, back in Genesis
- 15:12chapter 1 and verse 27, it's very clear.
- 15:17In my opinion. It's very clear, He says.
- 15:21So God created man in his own image, in the image of God.
- 15:27He created him, male and female. He created them.
- 15:33Now I've looked and I've searched and I've still have not
- 15:38been able to find where he created them.
- 15:41Male, female and transgender. I haven't found it yet.
- 15:46Don't think I will. Again, that is in rebellion to
- 15:50God. You don't tell me, God, whether
- 15:52I'm a man or a woman, I tell myself it's based on how I feel.
- 15:59Rebellion, total rebellion. And this is the world we're
- 16:03living in. This is the world we're living
- 16:06in. So when you say the last times,
- 16:08boy, it sure sounds like it, doesn't it?
- 16:11The last days sure sounds like it.
- 16:16I think you've heard me enough on that one.
- 16:18OK, blasphemers. And I think I make this one last
- 16:21look. Like I said, we can't.
- 16:22I want to take my time and go through these because I don't
- 16:25want to rush to them because there's so many messages in
- 16:28this. But blasphemers is are those who
- 16:31speak contemptuous and bitter words against others.
- 16:35It's acting or or causing slander, revelling or showing
- 16:42lack of reverence for God, showing opposition to the
- 16:47authority of God and of God's word is blasphemy, blasphemy.
- 16:53And we're going to see a lot more blasphemous people or
- 16:56people who are blaspheming God in the later days.
- 16:58We're always starting to see some.
- 17:00We're already starting to see some.
- 17:01Anyone who goes against the authority of God, heresy.
- 17:06All that is blasphemy and it's in First Timothy 6 and one it
- 17:11commands against that behavior that blasphemy should that that
- 17:16you know anybody who any behavior that blasphemes the
- 17:19Lord First Timothy chapter 6 and verse one talks against that and
- 17:24this is what it says it says let as many bond servants as are
- 17:29under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor so
- 17:35that the name of God and his doctrine may not be blasphemed.
- 17:41We don't do anything against God, anything against His word
- 17:46or his doctrine that would be blasphemous against him.
- 17:53And I'm going to do one more. He talks about disobedience to
- 17:55parents, and this is the last one I'm going to do today.
- 17:59But when you talk about disobedience to parents, it's
- 18:03really disrespect for parents. And when you disrespect your
- 18:06parents, if you, if you can do that and disrespect your parents
- 18:10and do that continuously, then you're not going to have any,
- 18:13any respect for anybody else. If I don't respect my parents,
- 18:19who should I respect? I obviously don't respect God
- 18:22because he's the one that gave us that 5th commandment, right,
- 18:26that says honor your father and your mother so that your days
- 18:31will be long upon the earth. He's going to give us that
- 18:34commandment. So if I disrespect or if I don't
- 18:38honor my father and my mother, that I'm already in disrespect
- 18:42to him. I'm disrespecting my parents.
- 18:45I don't honor them. I'm not in obedience to them.
- 18:49So then who will I obey? I'm not going to obey anybody,
- 18:54not going to obey anybody. And this is what this is talking
- 18:58about. In the last days, there'll be
- 19:00people who just won't have any obedience to any authority.
- 19:05They'll just do whatever they want to do, no boundaries, Just
- 19:10do whatever they want to do, whatever pleases them,
- 19:14regardless of who defends, regardless of what laws it may
- 19:17break. Don't care, don't care.
- 19:20But I want to say this, I want to say this in closing, and then
- 19:23we can pick this up again next week.
- 19:25But I want to say this, that in order for a child to be
- 19:30disobedient, there must first have been instruction.
- 19:36There must first have been commandment.
- 19:39There must first have been guidance.
- 19:44Johnny, don't do this. Don't do that.
- 19:46That must have been spoken first.
- 19:49Because if our children don't have any guidance, if they've
- 19:54never been given instruction, if they've never had any
- 19:59expectation of what to obey, how can we call them disobedient?
- 20:08They can only obey what they've been given commandment for, what
- 20:12they've been given instruction for, and that comes back to
- 20:17parents. But if you have parents who are
- 20:21disrespectful and not obedient to their parents, how would they
- 20:26raise theirs? That's why it's so important to
- 20:30be in a place of teaching where you can be under the word of
- 20:34God. So that young parents, I applaud
- 20:37you young people who are bringing your children and
- 20:40they're seeing you come and sit under the word of God.
- 20:44Those of you who are teaching your children at home the word
- 20:48of God, they understand discipline, they understand
- 20:52authority, they understand that you are under authority.
- 20:56And you are the first example, just like Jesus Christ was an
- 21:00example of that for us. He was under the authority of
- 21:04his Father when he walked upon this earth.
- 21:07Because I only do what my father does.
- 21:10My father says, I only do what my father says.
- 21:13I don't do my own thing. Even when it came to going to
- 21:16the cross, he said, Lord, I don't want to go, but not my
- 21:19will. Your will be done.
- 21:22I'm not going to disobey you. I just want to know is there
- 21:25another way I can do this? But I'm not going to disobey
- 21:29you. I'm not going to dishonor you.
- 21:34He's our example, so we must be an example.
- 21:39Forget if they see us that we are submitted to God, that we
- 21:43are submitted to his authority. We're submitted to his leading.
- 21:47Then when we give direction to them, we're not telling them to
- 21:50do anything that we're not doing ourselves.
- 21:54And that's important and that's important.
- 21:58So we want to close there with disobedient to parents and we
- 22:01come back, we'll go into unthankful and unloving and all
- 22:06of those, you know, it's such a blessing because as we read
- 22:09through these, we see how Jesus was in almost every situation
- 22:14was just the total opposite of all those things.
- 22:16And and I don't know about you, but even as I look at some of
- 22:19those things, I think about it. So you know what some of those
- 22:21things actually was me and some of those things are even me now.
- 22:25Sometimes I get off, I get off cue.
- 22:32I still need the Lord to help me to not fall into these things on
- 22:38a regular basis. I still need the Lord to give me
- 22:40direction, to give me instruction, to give me those
- 22:43boundaries. I still need the Lord to do that
- 22:46for me and to work in my heart so that I'm not disobedient, so
- 22:52that I'm not lovers, a lover of myself, so that I don't become
- 22:56in love with money and what money can do.
- 23:01I don't want that to be me. I don't want to be proud.
- 23:04And there's times that I can be. I can be those things without
- 23:08the help of God. I can be all those things.
- 23:14So Lord, I need them. I need you.
- 23:17I need you to help me with this all the time.
- 23:19And as I think about Jesus Christ, he was our example.
- 23:23He was our example of what to be here in the Earth realm, and he
- 23:28walked in a way that was so selfless that it took him all
- 23:35the way to the cross. That's why he gave his life for
- 23:38us, because he was selfless. If he was a lover of self,
- 23:41there's no way he would have gone to the cross for us.
- 23:46But he was selfless. He came to be a ransom for us
- 23:52and we knew deserve it. Thank you for tuning in to
- 23:58Living Waters of Grace with Pastor Louis Harrell.
- 24:02We're currently in the books of First and Second Timothy.
- 24:05Some of the things included in these New Testament letters from
- 24:09Paul are that the young and newly established Pastor Timothy
- 24:14was being encouraged to hold fast to what was true.
- 24:18He was challenged to confront and address the false teachers
- 24:22that were rising up. He was also reminded to accept
- 24:26his calling to the ministry with gratefulness and to address the
- 24:30happenings going on in the Ephesian church.
- 24:33Paul was imparting his experience and knowledge to the
- 24:37next generation. Timothy was receptive to
- 24:41learning and gleaning what he could from Paul's wisdom.
- 24:44This is how it should be in ministry across multiple
- 24:47generations. Those who have lived a little
- 24:50more life should be open to sharing their successes and also
- 24:55things they've learned along the way that we're not a wind.
- 24:59The younger generations coming up can learn and appreciate much
- 25:03from those ahead of them and perhaps avoid some of the same
- 25:06pitfalls that their mentors work through mentoring.
- 25:11It's a beautiful relationship when the hearts are in the right
- 25:15place to learn and grow. You trust that you're in a
- 25:18community where this is happening.
- 25:20Older ones providing advice and wisdom and each side learning
- 25:25and growing from one another. This certainly was the case for
- 25:29Paul and Timothy as they were comrades for the sake of the
- 25:33gospel. For more information on where
- 25:36this teaching came from, go to calvarychapelonline.com.
