- 0:09Hey, what's up, everybody? Welcome to another
- 0:11episode of Fanatically Speaking. I'm Kent, your
- 0:14co -host and promoter. I'm Log Off, the Log Off
- 0:17legend, hater of social media, co -host and producer
- 0:19of the show. And we have another Super Bowl episode,
- 0:24but this time we're going to talk about all the
- 0:26fun stuff. We ain't even talking about the game.
- 0:29Yeah, the Super Bowl is an event. It's an unofficial
- 0:34holiday, man. Yeah, I guess we are going to talk
- 0:37about not the game this year, but... moments
- 0:40of past games. And then again, everything that
- 0:44comes with the Super Bowl, as you said, it's
- 0:47a national holiday. Should it be a holiday the
- 0:49day after things like that commercials and halftime
- 0:52shows and food, all that stuff we're going to
- 0:55get into on this episode. Yeah, yeah. And leading
- 0:59off, you got you got a rundown. I find going
- 1:02however you want to go with it. I think it's
- 1:05obvious where we should start. But but yeah,
- 1:07but you go ahead. You lead off. So you will start
- 1:10we will start with the best Super Bowl we've
- 1:12watched Yeah, yeah, so so we're gonna do they
- 1:16back and forth here This is not saying we're
- 1:19not ranking. We're not saying like this is the
- 1:22best Super Bowl in the history of Super Bowls
- 1:23cuz that's all You know, that's all based on
- 1:27your opinion and what you've seen, right? So
- 1:29we're just saying like in our lifetime. We're
- 1:31roughly the same age I'm a little older, but
- 1:34we've seen you know watch Super Bowls And so
- 1:37I want to get into like, like what Super Bowl
- 1:40that you've watched and you were just like, man,
- 1:42this is like one of the greatest games I've ever
- 1:44seen. Got it. Is there, is there one that stands
- 1:49out to you? Well, any other, you know, me, man,
- 1:54I'm a, I'm a Homer. I'm biased. Uh, it would
- 1:57be blasphemy if I didn't say the Philadelphia
- 2:01Eagles went in their first Super Bowl. Was it
- 2:03the greatest Super Bowl I've ever watched? Because.
- 2:06Never thought in my lifetime. I see the Philadelphia
- 2:08Eagles with a Super Bowl Amazingly, I've seen
- 2:12them win two But growing up, you know, we've
- 2:15talked about this before That's why I picked
- 2:18that game is you know, is it technically the
- 2:20best Super Bowl I've ever watched probably not
- 2:21right, but it's pretty damn good one a lot to
- 2:25you I mean you had an upset. I'm not even get
- 2:28into the plays. I'm just saying You know when
- 2:31you play against Tom Brady New England Patriots,
- 2:33you're normally counted out The Eagles went into
- 2:36that game with a backup quarterback and they
- 2:38still beat the great Tom Brady, Bill Belichick,
- 2:40New England Patriots in a Super Bowl for their
- 2:43first Super Bowl ever in the history of the franchise.
- 2:47So that went to me. I have to name it as the
- 2:50best one I ever watched because my team came
- 2:53out on top. OK, now, now, if you want me to name
- 2:58another one, I guess I could, but. No, I'm going
- 3:03to roll with that one. I understand your bias.
- 3:06Yes. I get the bias, and it's not discrimination
- 3:11excluding any other teams when you can give it
- 3:13to one that had the best emotional connection.
- 3:17Yeah, I'm not going to, you're my bias, man.
- 3:20I'm not going to just name the Eagles or talk
- 3:23about the Eagles just to do it, right? I'm going
- 3:25to give you some information and some backup,
- 3:27and it's going to be legitimate. And it can be
- 3:29a legitimate argument, right? Yeah. but my bias
- 3:32is yeah pretty equal to my hatred of the cowboys
- 3:34so okay all right so in terms of a watching experience
- 3:41i'm trying to think about the one that had the
- 3:44the biggest impact on me the one that that felt
- 3:49like i guess you could say like the biggest spectacle
- 3:53like the one where it where the game felt big
- 3:58and Was it that long ago? Wasn't incredibly recent
- 4:03either. But the crazy thing is, for even young
- 4:05sports fans, I feel like they're going to know
- 4:07a lot of these names from the Super Bowl. But
- 4:09I just remember sitting down watching it, being
- 4:11enthralled and being invested, even though neither
- 4:13one of them were my team. And I didn't really
- 4:15have a rooting interest for either side. February
- 4:202013, Ravens 49ers. OK. That's where I ended
- 4:26up going. Okay. And that was the, the, the lights
- 4:29out Joe Flacco game. Um, he threw for almost
- 4:33300 yards, three, three touchdowns, no picks,
- 4:35you know, played against the 49ers. That was
- 4:37a Colin Kaepernick year. He threw for 300 yards,
- 4:41a touchdown and a pick you had, uh, on for the
- 4:44Ravens, you had, you know, you had Ray Rice,
- 4:48you know, before the scandal, um, before the
- 4:52punch. before knocking a woman out and his wife
- 4:57out in an elevator. Hey, better listen to your
- 4:59corner, man. Watch for the hook. Got to watch
- 5:01for the hook. You got Anquan Bolden. You've got
- 5:07a defense that had both Ray Lewis and Ed Reed
- 5:11on it. It's a... uh uh Hello, Enata on that team.
- 5:17Bernard Pollard on that team. Terrell Suggs on
- 5:19that team. Yeah. Like just names for days. Patrick
- 5:23Willis on the Niners. Patrick Willis. Yeah. That
- 5:28um uh Frank Gore on the Niners. Yeah. Michael
- 5:32Crabtree, Vernon Davis. Yeah. Randy Moss. That
- 5:37one was on that roster. That's a weird one. I'm
- 5:40just, he was on the roster, dude. Like, yeah,
- 5:42I mean, like, you know, Ahmad Brooks, Delaney
- 5:44Walker, like it was, it was such a big, it felt
- 5:48like a, like a football, like a respected football
- 5:54player resume game where some of these guys,
- 5:58of course, are hall of famers, but like the names
- 6:01we were laying out, all of those guys are heavily
- 6:03respected as, as, as football players. And it
- 6:07just felt big. It was a back and forth game.
- 6:11And Baltimore was able to hold on at the end,
- 6:13you know, ended up winning by three. You know,
- 6:17no questionable calls, no headache play calling
- 6:21that you can remember off the top of your head.
- 6:23It was just hard nose football to the end of
- 6:26the game into the fourth quarter. And Baltimore
- 6:28was able to, you know, to hold on enough to be
- 6:30able to win. And so that was the one for me where
- 6:33it was kind of the best watching experience.
- 6:36That um it was for me. It was an easy pick number
- 6:40one out of the box Okay That's not about I mean,
- 6:44it's not a bad one Right. Yeah Yep. Yeah, I liked
- 6:49it, you know 34 31 so Nice close scoring back
- 6:53and forth game. Yeah. Yeah close game like you
- 6:57said come down to the to the wire and I mean
- 7:01That's a that's a that's a pretty good. I said
- 7:04that is a pretty good Super Bowl Yeah. And keep
- 7:06in mind, just one more thing, just keep in mind,
- 7:09we were just talking about, you know, the halftime
- 7:12and the previous episode, we were talking about
- 7:14just how big like halftime swings are in the
- 7:19Super Bowl. I want you to keep in mind that going
- 7:22into halftime, Baltimore was up 21 to six. Yep.
- 7:27And San Francisco came out and scored 17 points
- 7:30in that third quarter. So it's just I loved it.
- 7:33It was a it was a which I'm going to knock you
- 7:36out again that but that was after yeah, Jacobi
- 7:39Jones returned the second half kickoff to for
- 7:42108 yards. There you go. There you go. That's
- 7:46yeah. And it was a huge play the huge play a
- 7:49huge swing, but it was back and forth. I'm going
- 7:51to hit people in the face and we'll see who's
- 7:54the last man standing and that Ravens. I mean
- 7:57that Ravens defense still gave up 31 point. Well,
- 8:00I mean, I guess, you know, special teams and
- 8:02all that, but still, still 31 points on the board.
- 8:04It doesn't look great. No, no, no, no. That's
- 8:07a, that's a really good one. Like you said, you
- 8:09want, you want the games to be close. Uh, you
- 8:13know, maybe if it's not your team, cause then
- 8:15it makes a little nail biting, but either the
- 8:17way it's still a good, you, you want the games
- 8:19to be close, right? I mean, again, watching Super
- 8:21Bowls throughout the years, blowouts are never
- 8:23fun. Um, Ken, Ken, that's where we're, that's
- 8:27where we're different, dude. I love watching
- 8:30that ass whooping. except when it's your team.
- 8:34Like, yeah, I mean, I obviously enjoy the Eagles,
- 8:36but yeah, I mean, sometimes, man, like, it just
- 8:39depends on where you're at as a football fan
- 8:40and where you're at as a fan. I think if you
- 8:42get a, again, we talk about the Super Bowl brings
- 8:45in all different people and everybody watching,
- 8:47right? So if you're not a football fan and you're
- 8:49watching a blowout, you're probably like, whoa,
- 8:51I don't, you know, like, this is not fun. But
- 8:54I think it just, I think it just depends on the
- 8:57type of person you are and what you want to see.
- 9:01Yeah. Yeah. It's personality based because I
- 9:03have to say if a non football fan comes in and
- 9:05they sit and watch a blowout and they don't like
- 9:07football, that nerd can get out of my living
- 9:09room, go, go watch cricket or something else.
- 9:12Kiss my ass. I don't want to hear your opinions
- 9:14and thoughts on football. If you're not a real
- 9:16fan and ass whooping is an ass whooping. If,
- 9:21if the, if the Steelers are playing the Ravens
- 9:23and they have an, and the Steelers have an opportunity
- 9:25to beat them by 40 and it just happens to be
- 9:29a down year for the Ravens, I wanna see it. Because
- 9:33you know what? They're gonna end up playing twice
- 9:35a year, every year forever. Let's see how they
- 9:38come back the next time. So even with blowouts
- 9:41and Super Bowls, I don't mind it. Like both teams
- 9:44signed up for it. The losing team had an opportunity
- 9:48to drag another team and just didn't do it. Yeah.
- 9:51So, yeah. I mean, maybe, maybe that's where I'm
- 9:53different. I don't mind it that much. I don't,
- 9:55but I also don't ask for a ton from my sports
- 9:57either. But you never know. Like I said, it could
- 10:00be, it could be a blowout and teams come back.
- 10:02Like you just mentioned the 49ers came back.
- 10:04They didn't win, but they came back and we've
- 10:06obviously seen the Falcons blow a 28 three league.
- 10:09So it does happen. Um, but yeah, like I said,
- 10:13either way, that's a good game. There's obviously
- 10:17all the ones we've seen in our lifetime. That's
- 10:20a really good pick, I like it. So let's go to
- 10:22the best play you've ever seen in a Super Bowl.
- 10:28And I'm gonna say play, performance. I'm just
- 10:30gonna bunch it all together. However you wanna,
- 10:32if you don't have a play, then maybe it's a performance
- 10:35by a player, I don't know. Okay, but, and that's
- 10:39just so by performance, you mean like a collective
- 10:42of of a of a stat line in the Super Bowl. Yeah.
- 10:50Yeah. I'll just add that to it. I mean, I I originally
- 10:52was thinking like best play you've ever seen
- 10:54because there's been so many moments in Super
- 10:57Bowls and again, once you've watched not ones
- 11:00you saw, you know, on NFL on NFL on NFL films.
- 11:05Uh why can't I pick why can't I pick one from
- 11:071978? You know, before I was uh before I was
- 11:10born. Nah. Okay, so I'm gonna lead off. Yeah,
- 11:18again, my bias is, you know, it's the Philly
- 11:21special. That's why I said I wasn't gonna talk
- 11:23about plays in my favorite Super Bowl, best Super
- 11:25Bowl I ever watched. Again, that play at that
- 11:31moment, at that time, you know, the Eagles were
- 11:34up 15 to 12, 38 seconds left, second quarter,
- 11:38almost halftime, fourth and goal at the one,
- 11:41you know, and they run a trick play. You know
- 11:44what I mean? To throw the ball to your quarterback.
- 11:48You know what I mean? So the Philly special was
- 11:50amazing, caught everybody off guard. Even though
- 11:53the play had been, you know, ran before in the
- 11:55NFL by the Patriots, the Eagles did it with their
- 12:00own little twist on it, I guess, the way they
- 12:03pulled it off from Nick Foles, you know, acting
- 12:08like he's calling an audible and talking to his
- 12:10lineman and all this stuff. You know, Corey Clement
- 12:13and Trey Burton pulling that off, man. You know,
- 12:17the Philly Special, greatest play I've ever seen
- 12:18in the Super Bowl. The balls to call it at that
- 12:22moment, and it worked. You can't tell me any
- 12:25different. I mean, the only thing that I didn't
- 12:32like about the Philly Special is - What? No,
- 12:36no, no, just listen. Just hear me out. take a
- 12:40deep breath. The only thing I didn't like about
- 12:44it is it was such a good, effective and creative
- 12:48play call, but you'll never see it again. You
- 12:54can't just run that play again. You know what
- 12:57I mean? Like it was, it was, it was one of the
- 12:59rare creative designed plays that you're not
- 13:05going to see emulated all over the league. Does
- 13:08that make sense? No, even though like I said,
- 13:10it's been done before But to pull it off to like
- 13:15that, you know, I mean so in that moment. Yeah
- 13:18in that moment Yeah in that moment itself, right?
- 13:21It's hard to pull off and we saw a couple plays
- 13:23this season just to you know talk about the season,
- 13:25you know, James Winston made a catch and then
- 13:28you know actually made moves to score a touchdown
- 13:30this year and Jared Goff Had a touchdown called
- 13:34back. So we see they you know Quarterbacks they're
- 13:37gonna, you know, they're gonna make plays sometimes
- 13:39they're gonna call these trick trick plays But
- 13:43nothing like that. I don't think in that moment
- 13:45at least for I don't I mean and that's been a
- 13:47while now, so Yeah, I think it'll still Maybe
- 13:54not exactly that play but you know, maybe something
- 13:56but you're right though. You're right. I mean
- 13:58it can't that's a tough one to duplicate Okay
- 14:05all right um for me and again i'm i try to think
- 14:09about like moments yeah like i try to think about
- 14:14like the the the holy shit did you see that you
- 14:18know type of fact for me yeah um it was the uh
- 14:25rams titans okay super bowl yep isaac bruce was
- 14:31an incredible man just that performance that
- 14:35performance, like it was because it was, it was
- 14:37a complete game. Like we all knew, I mean, you
- 14:40know, small undersized wide receiver, you know,
- 14:46not, not tiny by any stretch, but electric is
- 14:49all get out and I'm gonna have to look it up.
- 14:53I know he had a huge play in that game. I don't
- 14:56want to misquote it and say how many yards, how
- 14:58many yards it was. I want to say, hold on, give
- 15:00me a second. I'm going to look it up. He had
- 15:04a touchdown for 73 yards. A 73 yard reception
- 15:09for a touchdown. He put on a show. And that was
- 15:14a super flashy offense for the Rams anyway. But
- 15:19yeah. So what now? Greatest show on turf. Greatest
- 15:23show on turf. And he was the standout in that
- 15:28game to me. so yeah to me that was kind of the
- 15:32one that kind of stood out the most obviously
- 15:34you know we we know the you know the titans there
- 15:37was the um you know just kind of that wasn't
- 15:40too far from the uh like the rebranding you know
- 15:44from you know and all that and you know mcnair
- 15:47and but but no but for me yeah that it was that
- 15:50it was that game it was and and this just goes
- 15:54to show you that even even now, even though the
- 15:56Rams are in a totally different city, there's
- 15:58still a good, you know, good franchise overall.
- 16:02Yes. Not a bad one. You could have went with
- 16:05that game as well. We could have went with that
- 16:08game is the best, the best game ever played.
- 16:11Superbowl I've watched and I just want to, I
- 16:15have to throw out a couple of plays that had
- 16:17in mind and I'm not going to name a list. I know
- 16:19how I am, but A couple of the plays that I thought
- 16:24were unbelievable plays in Super Bowls that I've
- 16:26watched were Jake DeLome, the longest touchdown
- 16:31pass ever in Super Bowl history, 85 yards to
- 16:33Moosen Mohammed in another game that could be
- 16:38one of the greatest games I've ever watched Super
- 16:40Bowls. And James Harrison's 99 yard, 100 yard,
- 16:45however you want to point it. I think it was
- 16:48officially a 99 yard pick six on Kurt Warner.
- 16:52I mean, he was rumbling, bumbling, and stumbling
- 16:55all the way to the end. The whole way to get
- 16:58those six points. And that is a big man to take
- 17:02one to intercept it. James Harrison, that's a
- 17:06big man to yeah to to intercept it and run You
- 17:09know the length of the football field and score
- 17:11that was a huge moment That game also had the
- 17:13San Antonio homes catch that won it again that
- 17:16game itself could be one of the gate grace games
- 17:18ever I had to I had to mention that those moments
- 17:21and that those games as well No, no, but you're
- 17:30talking about a 99 yard uh you know pick six
- 17:34it it was a real uh mommy look at me ass type
- 17:40touchdown like it was it was everybody's watching
- 17:43me right now i i can't goof this up like i gotta
- 17:47stay on my feet it would yeah and for a gentleman
- 17:52of that size um yeah for him to be able to to
- 17:55run that back yeah it yeah that's crazy looking
- 17:58i i i hate that it happened to curt warner uh
- 18:01who is my if I've never mentioned this, is my
- 18:04favorite quarterback that is not a Philadelphia
- 18:07Eagle or had been a Philadelphia Eagle. So I
- 18:11hate it happen to him, but hey, it is still one
- 18:14of the greatest plays I've ever seen in Super
- 18:17Bowl. Yeah, hell yeah. So that's the best we've
- 18:27seen and thought we've seen. How about the worst
- 18:31game? that I've had to endure in Super Bowl history.
- 18:37Um, and, and we're going to get into worst plays
- 18:39that I've ever watched. Uh, and it, there's a
- 18:43common theme with these teams, some of these
- 18:45teams in my, in my picks, but go ahead. I already
- 18:48know because, because I think, I think one of
- 18:51them, I think one of them is mine, but it, but
- 18:54it's not, it's going to be for the opposite reason
- 18:56that yours is. So again, I'm not going to list
- 18:59a bunch of games, but I had a couple in mind
- 19:02One was the Colts Bears Super Bowl Good for Peyton
- 19:07Manning that he won a Super Bowl and I know it
- 19:09had Devin Hester's Returned so maybe that's why
- 19:12I didn't pick that as my worst Super Bowl ever
- 19:15I had to watch but again having to watch Rex
- 19:17Grossman And the Bears offense was enough That
- 19:22was not a good Super Bowl for me, but the one
- 19:25was the Patriot Rams Patriots won 13 to 3 2019
- 19:30We mentioned in another episode Jared Goff He
- 19:33made a Super Bowl and the Rams threw a dud of
- 19:37three points on the board and the Patriots didn't
- 19:39do a whole lot more So one of the worst Super
- 19:42Bowls I've watched and that's the one that really
- 19:44comes to mind And again, I've watched and I could
- 19:47have easily said any Cowboy Super Bowl win in
- 19:50the 90s was one of the worst to watch them destroy
- 19:54Buffalo or beat Pittsburgh, but in all honesty
- 19:59Super Bowl. That Rams Patriots Super Bowl not
- 20:02too long ago was was really bad to watch. So,
- 20:06is that your worst one? That is my worst one.
- 20:10Okay. Alright. You got a different one. So, I
- 20:13oh yeah. I I get to be the guy. Okay. Dude, the
- 20:17worst the the the worst watched uh Super Bowl
- 20:21was the the 50 burger Super Bowl 50. Panthers
- 20:27Broncos. Oh, that game sucked. It was terrible.
- 20:31It was a horrible Super Bowl. Like I don't even,
- 20:35it was, it was bad. It was bad football to watch.
- 20:40It was bad football to watch because I'm sitting
- 20:43there and I'm watching like, no, no, no. Like,
- 20:46no, the, like the better team should win. Why
- 20:50isn't the better team winning? Yeah, the you
- 20:53know, and here here does so the the final score
- 20:56of the Super Bowl Which is a little confusing
- 20:59and I'll get to that in a second. It was 24 10
- 21:02Yeah, the game didn't feel like it. It felt like
- 21:05it should be 12 to 3 like it didn't three Yeah,
- 21:09it was it was a terrible last game and and and
- 21:14when you when you broke it all down to me, it
- 21:18was one of the rare instances, especially in
- 21:20a in a quarterback matchup where it's like we
- 21:26knew how great Cam Newton was, and it didn't
- 21:30materialize for him. But however, the Panthers
- 21:34had 21 first downs in that Super Bowl. 21 first
- 21:39downs. The Broncos had 11, almost half. Okay?
- 21:46Total yards, the Panthers, 315 yards. Broncos,
- 21:51194. They beat them in rushing. They beat them
- 21:55in rushing attempts. They beat them in yards
- 21:56per carry. They had more sacks. Like they were
- 22:00doing the things that you needed to do to win
- 22:02the game and they just could not score to save
- 22:05their lives. Denver, you know, they got the fumble
- 22:08recovery. You know, they were able to score a
- 22:11touchdown with that. So that's seven free points.
- 22:12Field goal. field goal, field goal. And then
- 22:15they had the score at the end of the fourth quarter.
- 22:18C .J. Anderton rushes in for a touchdown and
- 22:20then they do two point conversion and score that
- 22:22too. But other than that, the Panthers kick that
- 22:27we're going to make the history books look a
- 22:31little bit better by kicking this chip shot field
- 22:34goal to make it 10 points as opposed to it being
- 22:38a seven point loss. It was it was terrible to
- 22:44watch because the whole time I'm My mind was
- 22:47blown as to how they were able to lose the game
- 22:49in that manner And it was such a slow loss. It
- 22:54was like dude. Let's just get this over with
- 22:56so I go to sleep. Yeah Hey, that's a really good
- 23:00one. I did I don't I don't think of it as a bad
- 23:04one that I watched But I could see I can definitely
- 23:07see it being a bad Super Bowl. And like you just
- 23:10mentioned, you know, us being in Charlotte area
- 23:12again, we were thinking the Panthers, you know,
- 23:14what a season they had. Right. And then that
- 23:17offense was amazing. And then to get to the Super
- 23:20Bowl and not perform and then noodle arm Peyton
- 23:23Manning over there, couldn't throw 10 yards,
- 23:27couldn't throw 10 yards. And in that Super Bowl,
- 23:30in that Super Bowl, there were two offensive
- 23:33touchdowns scored between both teams. it was
- 23:36they both had one they both had oh and here no
- 23:39and this is what i mean just how bad it was one
- 23:41of them was a one yard touchdown run by jonathan
- 23:44stewart and the other was a two yard touchdown
- 23:46run by cj anderson like it was bad football yeah
- 23:50like it wasn't fun to watch and i would argue
- 23:53too i mean i would uh bring up you know not blaming
- 23:56the refs but i don't think it was a very well
- 23:58officiated game as well uh that's a good point
- 24:02too there's all kind of conspiracy theory you
- 24:04know there always is about with this referee
- 24:06and Peyton Manning and his record with this ref.
- 24:10And then like I said, some of the calls, you
- 24:11know, we're very, they were very interesting,
- 24:15right? But at the same time, you know, the Panthers
- 24:18did not perform, you're right. And Nudelorm,
- 24:21Peyton Manning at that time could, it just, yeah.
- 24:25Hey, that's a good one. I like it. I didn't see
- 24:27that one coming, so. Yeah. Yeah, man, it was
- 24:30again when you said it, the first thing I thought
- 24:32was like, what's the which one had like the worst
- 24:35like, yeah, like physical reaction experience
- 24:39to watching it, man. Yeah, it pisses me off.
- 24:42So with the worst game we've watched, I'm going
- 24:45to go to the worst play that I've had to see
- 24:47in a Super Bowl. Oh, can't and I'm a piss you
- 24:52off, man. That's OK. So I, you know, my pick,
- 24:57I'll get to. One that came to mind was from that
- 25:00game you just mentioned. It was Cam Newton not
- 25:03falling on the fumble. Stop. That's mine. No,
- 25:07no, that's my pick. Wow. It's my pick. I was
- 25:09going to double up on it. I have to go with it.
- 25:14Hold on. You've watched a lot of football in
- 25:16your life, dude. You ain't never seen no shit
- 25:19like that in your life. You've never seen it.
- 25:21You haven't seen it before. And you will never
- 25:23see that again, where you can visibly see a human
- 25:27being stop and hesitate from jumping on a fumble.
- 25:31Yeah. You're never going to see it again in your
- 25:34life. And I know that he's spoken out about it
- 25:37and he definitely regrets it. You know what I
- 25:40mean? And in that moment, you know, only he knows
- 25:44what's going through his mind, right? That You
- 25:46know, do I, don't I? But like you said, you would
- 25:49think in the Superbowl, it's all out. And I don't
- 25:53like it to be put as like a permanent knock on
- 25:57cam. You know what I mean? But it was a huge
- 25:59moment and it was a really bad play and a bad
- 26:02decision to not at least try to get that fumble.
- 26:06But that was not my pick. So that was your pick.
- 26:10You have any more thoughts? That's your pick?
- 26:12Okay. So my pick again we go back to like you
- 26:16said you watch a game you're invested they're
- 26:19not even your teams and Then you see a play So
- 26:26stupid So dumb that you're like anybody Kevin
- 26:32Patulo could have called a better play Anybody
- 26:37could have called a better play at that moment
- 26:40in time And some of it was I was rooting for
- 26:44against the other team because I didn't want
- 26:45to see them win again. And it's the last time
- 26:49to see Hawks and the Patriots played in the Super
- 26:51Bowl. Oh my God, man. Russell Wilson trying to
- 26:55be the hero, not given the ball to beast mode.
- 26:59However that play call came in, however that
- 27:01decision was made, right? You got that miracle
- 27:05catch, right? And they're set up. for the win.
- 27:12They're about to take the Patriots' soul, right?
- 27:17And they're on the one -yard line, one -yard
- 27:19line, second down. Bismo just ran the ball, got
- 27:23them to the one -yard line, like just punch it
- 27:25in. And again, football knowledge, you would
- 27:27say, run it on second down, right? And like I
- 27:31say, if you're gonna throw it, you got two more
- 27:33downs to throw it, right? That's the way I would
- 27:36think. And again, no one at that point you got
- 27:40the Patriots on their heels And again, you got
- 27:43beast mode Marshawn Lynch just punch it in and
- 27:45they threw the ball and I don't know that's probably
- 27:50the maddest I've been and angriest I've been
- 27:52at a football game not being a Philadelphia Eagle
- 27:55game like I jumped up and was Literally the words
- 27:59coming out of my mouth was like are you kidding
- 28:02me? You are that that is the dumbest decision
- 28:04I've ever seen in my life Now credit to Malcolm
- 28:07Butler. He had scouted the play. He knew it was
- 28:10coming. He jumped the route made the play If
- 28:13it works, it's one of those obviously to like
- 28:16if it works Oh, yeah, great. It worked when it
- 28:19doesn't work though. This is what you get But
- 28:22it seemed like common knowledge. Like I said,
- 28:24even Kevin put too low could have said They would
- 28:26have come up with just run the ball on this second
- 28:29down with one yard to go and I bet we get it
- 28:33You know what I mean, or at least get half the
- 28:35distance or something, right? And then you can
- 28:38do whatever we want after that, right? You want
- 28:40to throw it after that, run some kind of play
- 28:42action, roll out with Russ, then you can do whatever.
- 28:46But at that moment, you just punched it that
- 28:49close, just punch it again and get one more time
- 28:51with your big, bad, running back, Marshawn Lynch.
- 28:57So yeah, definitely the worst play I've ever
- 28:59seen in my Super Bowl history in my life. It
- 29:04was so the interesting thing about both of our
- 29:07picks is that They're not going to be put in
- 29:11the same bucket in terms of because one of them
- 29:14is an actual play call and Then the other one
- 29:17is a decision made by a player within their head
- 29:20But the result of both of them came originally
- 29:24from people overthinking the situation that they
- 29:27were in And it just just do just do the thing
- 29:30that you've always done when it comes to football
- 29:33run the fucking ball And the balls and the balls
- 29:37on the ground jump on that shit I mean easy ass
- 29:41it's it's as easy as saying hey if you're thirsty
- 29:43drink water and If you're if it's cold outside
- 29:47make sure to bundle up like it's easy ass Context
- 29:51to apply to anything Think that's if there's
- 29:54anything that I are to have in common is those
- 29:56two things There's just people trying to be a
- 29:58little too much in their head about what the
- 30:01hell is happening right in front of you It's
- 30:03obvious what you should do Stop trying to zag
- 30:06when others are zigging. Yeah, and and one obviously
- 30:10affected the outcome of a game because that was
- 30:13the game What are they both like one definitely
- 30:21because it it was like this is the game's over
- 30:23this was you know boom or bust uh but then it
- 30:29was the other one definitely affected because
- 30:31that you know that changed you know the field
- 30:33position like you said you know everything like
- 30:36you can't turn the ball over like you don't want
- 30:38to give the ball to the other team and uh yeah
- 30:41both both both plays are definitely very uh similar
- 30:46You know, it's funny, I didn't even think about
- 30:49that. They both, similarly opposite. They both
- 30:54literally resulted in turnovers. But sometimes
- 31:00we need those things in life. you know your your
- 31:06pick with uh with seattle and i'm not giving
- 31:08the ball to beastmo it gave us my one of my favorite
- 31:11uh uh uh memes gifs of all time is that richard
- 31:15sherman looking up at looking up at the jumbotron
- 31:18face yeah he's like even he's thinking they're
- 31:21gonna hand it off everybody he's like he's like
- 31:23wait a minute i was like wait what i'm sorry
- 31:25what just happened yeah apparently the unbelievable
- 31:28shot carol yeah except pete carroll and russell
- 31:30wilson Yeah, they were they were they were the
- 31:33two smartest people in the building and look
- 31:35at what happened. She's Alright so we're gonna
- 31:42move off the the the field a little bit and get
- 31:46to halftime shows It's a part of the spectacle
- 31:49It is a part of the spectacle and start off with
- 31:53the the best halftime show that you've watched
- 31:57Or your favorite I'm gonna let you do the heavy
- 32:03lifting on this one, because I want to, and it's
- 32:08gonna display a lot of ignorance about me, but
- 32:11I mean, I love music. It's in my core. I feel
- 32:15like dancing is the most underrated medicine
- 32:18that's available to people. It's just vibing
- 32:20and having a good time. But we could parse through
- 32:24the years of great Super Bowl performances. I
- 32:27really honestly don't have... one that that like
- 32:30stands out to me. So, okay. I mean, I could give
- 32:35an opinion, but I'm more curious to hear what
- 32:37you said. I'd rather have fun with that. Oh,
- 32:40okay. That's fine. So, uh, obviously I was a
- 32:43more recent, you know, obviously a fan of the
- 32:47Dr. Dre. I haven't all them Eminem, Snoop, 50.
- 32:51Yeah, Snoop. Yeah. All that was great as a, as
- 32:53a, as a hip hop rap fan of especially of them.
- 32:57And, um, but I don't get too, people really get
- 33:02into the halftime show, like you said, and they're
- 33:05like, oh, that sucked, or that's bad, and I get
- 33:07it, you know what I mean? And you can go back
- 33:10to the Michael Jackson, which was more like a,
- 33:14I don't know, it was a show, because like I said,
- 33:17he's doing all kinds of stunts and performing
- 33:20and things like that, but. I have a very interesting
- 33:25historical take on that. I'm not even sure if
- 33:28you know this. Maybe you do. Do you understand
- 33:31why Michael Jackson was selected to do the Super
- 33:35Bowl halftime show? I don't think I've ever heard
- 33:38this. No. Okay. So, and feel free to look like
- 33:41this is a matter of historical record. So the
- 33:43year prior, what took place was there was the
- 33:52The Super Bowl halftime show used to be more
- 33:55college themed. You would have bands, you would
- 33:58have people dancing, you would have people doing
- 34:00ribbons and twirling batons and stuff. That was
- 34:02the Super Bowl halftime show. Because Fox did
- 34:06not have the rights to the Super Bowl, they actually
- 34:08did a in living color halftime show where they
- 34:13advertised it and marketed it as, hey, we're
- 34:16gonna do a halftime show in the middle of the
- 34:18Super Bowl. So when the halftime show comes on
- 34:21switch over to Fox. We're gonna do a show live
- 34:25On the air. I remember I remember that Yes, and
- 34:29so so they so they did that They it went perfectly
- 34:33because no one thought that people would change
- 34:35the channel from the Super Bowl to watch in living
- 34:38color, but Super Bowl literally had a, I mean,
- 34:41Super Bowl, living color had a ticker that said,
- 34:43hey, here's the time. We're gonna have it in
- 34:45the bottom right -hand corner. When the clock
- 34:47hits zero, switch right back over to the Super
- 34:49Bowl. You won't miss a thing, I promise. And
- 34:51it worked out great. And broadcasters didn't
- 34:55like that. And they were like, who can we get
- 34:57to perform to make sure that people don't change
- 34:59the channel? It's like, oh, we'll go get the
- 35:00biggest pop star ever. We'll just have Michael
- 35:03Jackson come and stand on stage for eight minutes
- 35:05and just pose while people cheer and women pass
- 35:08out in the stands. Yes. Yeah. Okay. So true story.
- 35:14That's what led up to, you know, famous perfection,
- 35:18professional singers and performers doing halftime
- 35:22shows. That's what it took was, was someone being
- 35:25so innovative and in living color to do that.
- 35:28And then them reacting by saying, okay, well,
- 35:30we just gotta get someone bigger. Okay. I did
- 35:36not know that. I do remember that. Yeah, I know
- 35:40there's a lot of, they try to give you some times
- 35:43like I know wrestling, WWE did that one year.
- 35:45They had a halftime show where you could go flip
- 35:48over and watch a match instead of the halftime
- 35:52show. So again, this is one that always sticks
- 35:57to me. I enjoyed it. Again, I would be telling
- 36:01my age. I am that TRL Total Request Live when
- 36:06I was in high school, you know, that I just,
- 36:08you know, like I said, I like all music and the
- 36:13year MTV produced the show and they had Aerosmith,
- 36:16NSYNC, Brittany, Nelly, Mary J. Blige. To me,
- 36:20that was fun. You got a multitude of artists,
- 36:24different music styles, and they all kind of
- 36:27mixed it together. I really enjoyed that. You
- 36:31know what I mean? I could easily say, you know,
- 36:33Justin and Janet was my favorite Super Bowl halftime
- 36:36show. For many reasons. But no, nah. And I'm
- 36:42a huge Timberlake fan. So, but yeah. Yeah, I
- 36:46think that one, you know. That was a, that was
- 36:50a fun one. So not just one artist performing
- 36:53their, their hits for, you know, five seconds
- 36:55of their hits, but a mix of artists performing
- 36:59five seconds of their hits. But, uh, so for me,
- 37:05that's all. Okay. What, uh, what else you got?
- 37:10You said, so you want to go work worst. Yeah,
- 37:13that's an easy one. That's an easy one. Go. It's,
- 37:16uh, So I know a couple who secretly don't want
- 37:23to be named. They may like this band, but Coldplay
- 37:27was the worst Super Bowl. Maybe it's good to
- 37:35go cheat on your spouse, but not good for a Super
- 37:39Bowl halftime show. I don't mind Coldplay. But,
- 37:44you know, I need some upbeat music. I need some,
- 37:47you know, something. I don't need Coldplay to
- 37:50be playing at my halftime show. OK, all right.
- 37:56I OK, so my so mine I'm going to. It's similar
- 38:01along those lines. So, oh, God, all right. I
- 38:07like Coldplay, right? I like Coldplay. Yeah,
- 38:11I still want on my halftime show. I get you.
- 38:14There's nothing that Coldplay can do that's football
- 38:19music. It doesn't work. No. I mean, like Shaday,
- 38:26I don't want her to do the halftime show. That's
- 38:29a great point. So for me, a bad halftime show
- 38:34is a culmination of a lot of things. It's a culmination
- 38:37of an artist that I personally deem doesn't deserve
- 38:42that opportunity. It's an audience that I personally
- 38:46believe doesn't have a catalog that warrants
- 38:50it. It's someone that I believe doesn't have
- 38:55the, let's just say the appeal of someone who
- 39:01is performing at halftime should have in order
- 39:07to get something that coveted. And so I've got,
- 39:12I've got three takes on this when it comes to
- 39:15this. And one of them is going to come out of
- 39:17nowhere. But the weekend, the weekend, terrible.
- 39:22Hell out of here. Didn't like it. The weekend.
- 39:26I did not like it. It was, it was too much. It
- 39:28was too busy. It tried to be too artistic. It's
- 39:31like, it's just a halftime show. What do you
- 39:32do for the Superbowl dude? Like this is just
- 39:34too much. Okay. But to me, the the worst one
- 39:39that I saw that was the funnest to watch because
- 39:42I knew that this artist didn't have enough and
- 39:47she had to bring Missy Elliott to come do all
- 39:49her bangers just to lift it up to make it an
- 39:52actual halftime show. I'm talking about Katy
- 39:54Perry. Yeah. Yeah. She didn't have, she had,
- 39:57she has three legit bangers and that was it.
- 40:01Yeah. And then it's like, you know what? We just
- 40:03gonna have Missy come out here and do get your
- 40:05freak on real quick for us. And it was a good
- 40:09surprise and it was good to kind of see Missy
- 40:14get a moment to perform at the Superbowl, which
- 40:16I mean, if we're gonna be honest, there's not
- 40:18gonna be a lot of opportunities for someone who
- 40:20I think is that, I believe that Missy is one
- 40:25of the most underappreciated female artists in
- 40:28all of music. as an artist that is as good as
- 40:32any female rapper you've ever heard and can sing
- 40:34as good as, as well as any, you know, female
- 40:38singer. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And, you know, and
- 40:41then, oh, and on top of that, she's produced
- 40:42by Timbo. Like, come on. Yeah. So for her to
- 40:45get that opportunity to perform, I'm going to
- 40:48give, you know, good for her, but for Katy Perry
- 40:53to kind of get top billing. And then I don't
- 40:55even know if you notice, you can look at like
- 40:57there were articles written about it. The bump
- 40:59that Missy got as her being introduced to so
- 41:03many people in a generation of people who didn't
- 41:05know her music was like, yo, Missy got slaps
- 41:09and her downloads and her album buys went bananas
- 41:13for weeks post Super Bowl appearance. Not so
- 41:16much for Katy Perry, which was kind of my original
- 41:19point. So music snobbish take, I'll take it.
- 41:25And the only other thing I'm going to say, because
- 41:28this is a gentleman who I feel like has earned
- 41:31a right to be in a Super Bowl performance before
- 41:35he passes away, before he leaves us, is one of
- 41:38the greats. This name is going to come out of
- 41:41nowhere, but I don't know if you've ever heard
- 41:43this. There is an artist that is world renowned,
- 41:49world respected, well respected everywhere he
- 41:52goes internationally forever. He is a master
- 41:56at one instrument. And when I say the instrument,
- 42:00you only think of one person. And his wish is
- 42:04to do nothing but play the national anthem with
- 42:07his instrument during the Super Bowl. It's his
- 42:10only wish that he has remaining. He's achieved
- 42:12everything else that he could musically. And
- 42:15I'm talking about the gentleman who has mastered
- 42:17the saxophone. Go ahead and say his name. Oh,
- 42:20I don't know. I don't know. Oh, you know. I'll
- 42:24probably do if you say it, but at the moment
- 42:25- You know it's Kenny G. Oh, yeah. Okay, Kenny
- 42:28G. Kenny G, whose albums have sold millions upon
- 42:35millions. Yeah. You hear a saxophone and you
- 42:38go, oh yeah, that's Kenny G. You don't know another
- 42:41saxophone player other than Bill Clinton. So,
- 42:45you know, so he's got literally one wish is to
- 42:50play the national anthem. Wow. during the Super
- 42:53Bowl because you know, usually they have someone
- 42:56come out and sing it. Yeah. Why don't they make
- 42:58that happen? I don't know, man. I don't know.
- 43:00And maybe it's just one of this appealing to
- 43:02the younger demographic. But listen, you can
- 43:07say whatever you want to about Kenny G. Kenny
- 43:10G. G? Panty dropper. I bet he's better than the
- 43:16guy that sang the national anthem at the AFC
- 43:18title game. I don't even know who that dude was.
- 43:21I don't either, but it wasn't good. You see what
- 43:25I'm saying? I don't know. Did they have tryouts
- 43:27for that? I don't know, man. We were talking
- 43:29about that. My wife and I, I'm like, did they
- 43:32have tryouts? They just pick, does he know somebody?
- 43:35Like, how do you get to sing that? There you
- 43:37go. Like it wasn't like, oh, he had his Carl
- 43:40Lewis moment. It was like, dude, nah, that's
- 43:43not good. Listen, you couldn't, you can't even
- 43:46sing in church. get out of here. You're not gonna
- 43:50make the choir get the hell out of here. You
- 43:53ain't getting the solo. You wanna talk about
- 43:56food? Because now I'm hungry. Yeah, we're gonna
- 43:58get into, yeah, I'm starving. Yeah, let's get
- 44:00into the, yeah, food, like, in general, like,
- 44:09what's your go -to food? I'm just gonna throw
- 44:12this all together, by the way. Would you, what's
- 44:15your go -to food for the Super Bowl? Would you,
- 44:18do you want to go to it? Would you want to watch
- 44:20the game at a party or just at home like you
- 44:22normally watch football? And then do you care
- 44:26about the commercials? Okay. So I'm going to,
- 44:29I can fly through those real quick. Yeah. Let's
- 44:31just roll through them. Um, my favorite Superbowl
- 44:36food is a, it's prepackaged. It's frozen. It's
- 44:42easy to make. I would always make them in the
- 44:46oven. But with the advent and popularity of a
- 44:50air fryer, I have lost my mind because it makes
- 44:54them to perfection. Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs
- 44:58makes many beef corn dogs that are perfection.
- 45:03Oh my God, they're so good. I did not see that
- 45:06coming. It's awesome. It's the perfect. Pig in
- 45:10a blanket without you having to do all the extra
- 45:12work. Whatever you want to dip it in. My daughter
- 45:15dips it in ranch. Wife likes to dip it in barbecue
- 45:18sauce. Some people just dip it in ketchup and
- 45:21mustard. It's perfect, man. Crispy, soft, salty,
- 45:27easy. Finger food. Not super messy. But it's,
- 45:32but it's always a winner because you think there's
- 45:35all, all the other foods we can, you know, what
- 45:37super, you know, chips and nachos and pizza and
- 45:40all that wings and all of that, all that stuff
- 45:42is more messy, but these things, toothpick in
- 45:45it, easy peasy. You can eat 10 to 15 of them
- 45:49and it'll hold you over and you know, something
- 45:51good to mix with your liquor. Okay. I like it.
- 45:56Not mad at it. Have you tried any? I've never
- 46:00I didn't even know they existed like you got
- 46:02you got to try them like they're not gonna say
- 46:05you a link yo I'm We ain't get no advertising
- 46:08money from this, but I'm gonna have to say you
- 46:10a link Duke like they are you got an air fryer?
- 46:13Yes kit bangers. You gotta trust me. All right.
- 46:17Yeah, send me the link I'll eat them this year
- 46:21Yeah, I mean if I said I don't really have a
- 46:23favorite food like we normally go with the normal
- 46:25I said we might get wings we may do a big like
- 46:28dip with some chips Obviously, you never go wrong
- 46:32with some sort of uh, what's your dip? What's
- 46:35your dip go to? Man like like sometimes we do
- 46:40like a buffalo chicken But I'm more of like a
- 46:45cheese, you know, like a chili cheese is a good
- 46:47one We always have ranch always have guac Yes
- 46:52or no, I like well, I like French onion. Yeah,
- 46:56I do like French onion with some chips yeah with
- 46:58some ruffles um yeah any anything like that man
- 47:02i like to just chips and dip and we'll have some
- 47:05fruit things like that uh maybe some celery cucumbers
- 47:10and ranch all that is what we go to for our football
- 47:13games even the super bowl it's going to be stuff
- 47:15like that but i would definitely try your your
- 47:17mini corn dogs and let's see uh i would uh i'm
- 47:23gonna get into the watch it at home or go to
- 47:26a party So growing up, real quick, we used to
- 47:30always go to like, some of my parents, you know,
- 47:34another family friend's house, right? And they
- 47:37would have a Super Bowl party with other couples.
- 47:39It seemed like me and my brother were the only
- 47:41kids though. But the one thing I remember about
- 47:43that, it was fun, like growing up it was always
- 47:45like, oh yeah, Super Bowl Sunday, we're going
- 47:47over to, you know, so -and -so's house, we're
- 47:49gonna, you know. They made like these little
- 47:50small like, what are they like, what are they
- 47:54called, Cornish hens? Cornish game hens correct
- 47:58game. Yes. Yes. Yes. So I just as a kid I remember
- 48:02looking forward to just you know at the time
- 48:04I think I just caught him like little chickens
- 48:06so, you know So it was you know that that I remember
- 48:11that was always fun But you know as a kid like,
- 48:13you know, I'm playing and watching and it's a
- 48:16little different when you're a kid So but as
- 48:18I've gotten, you know older and throughout the
- 48:21years, I Honestly, I just want to watch the game
- 48:24I don't care about any party. Let me just watch
- 48:27the game on my couch, in my chair, whatever the
- 48:31case, be comfortable in my house. And I am going
- 48:36to wholeheartedly agree with you to my soul.
- 48:40And here is why people as a sports fan, you have
- 48:46a particular way that you do everything. You
- 48:51got a particular way that you prepare in the
- 48:54morning for game day, how you watch the game,
- 48:58where you watch the game, whether you watch the
- 49:00game with sound, whether you're watching other
- 49:03things at the same time that the game is on.
- 49:06Are we eating dinner or is dinner on whole? Are
- 49:08we going to eat during halftime? Do I want to
- 49:11watch the halftime show? Like just the way that
- 49:14people watch sports is such a different experience.
- 49:17And when you go somewhere else, it's out of your
- 49:19control. You're at the mercy of what someone
- 49:22else is going to do. And, you know, God bless
- 49:25their souls. I've spent Thanksgiving with some
- 49:27family members who just did not have the game
- 49:29on. Oh, God. And, you know, it could it could
- 49:33ruin it could ruin relationships long term because
- 49:36it's like, wait, wait, wait. Like, no, like,
- 49:38do you guys understand football is on? And it's
- 49:42great to see you all. But, you know, I want to
- 49:45watch football. I want to watch the Cowboys lose.
- 49:50So you lose that when you step out of your own
- 49:53environment and then there's the thing with the
- 49:57Super Bowl where it's such a production. You're
- 50:00going to get home so late and you got to go to
- 50:03work tomorrow. Yes. Which is another story. So
- 50:06it's like you're going to get home. If you're
- 50:08lucky, you'll get home 10, 10, 30. If you're
- 50:10lucky. Yeah, maybe. Yes. Yeah. And then it's
- 50:16over. No, go ahead. No, they do start them earlier
- 50:19than they used to. So they, I think they did
- 50:21adjust that some. I mean, I definitely remember
- 50:24it being really late. Uh, but yeah, I can't do
- 50:29it. Nah. Yeah. Not for me. Um, all right. And
- 50:34then do you care about the commercials? Um, and
- 50:42now no. And the reason why is I actually had
- 50:48to have somebody point out to me, it's a form
- 50:51of marketing where I realized that now I'm of
- 50:56an age and a stature in life that I am the target
- 50:59demographic for all the shit they're trying to
- 51:01sell me. Where before commercials were fun and
- 51:05interesting, but now I'm like offended when they
- 51:09purposely use a number one hit from the year
- 51:12that I graduated. You know what I mean? You know
- 51:14what I mean? Stuff like that. It's like, oh yeah,
- 51:16this was your, this song was the most popular
- 51:20song, you know, when you, in August, when you
- 51:23started your 11th grade year in high school and
- 51:25that nostalgia kicks in. And then they couple
- 51:28that with a message that kind of plucks the strings
- 51:32of, of, of a human being's vulnerability to try
- 51:35to sell you some shit. So I take offense to,
- 51:38to commercials. There's been some classics like,
- 51:41you know, that made waves and then dot like,
- 51:44remember Puppy Monkey Baby? It lasted for a week
- 51:49and a half and then we forgot about it, but it
- 51:51was a moment. There was the crypto one from some
- 51:57years ago where it was just the QR code on the
- 52:00screen for 30 seconds and everybody ran to their
- 52:03phone to scan it. But for me, I could live with
- 52:08or without them. And with the advent of the Internet,
- 52:13most of the Super Bowl commercials, very, very
- 52:16few of them still get held until the Super Bowl.
- 52:18But most of them are released days before. You
- 52:21could just watch them all on on the on YouTube.
- 52:24Yeah, now. Yeah, now. Yeah. So it's like why?
- 52:27Like, no, I'm no, I'm not paying attention to
- 52:29them like not live. I don't need to see everybody
- 52:31else's reaction. So I was thinking about this.
- 52:35And definitely now I don't care about them as
- 52:38much as I used to, right? And not that I ever
- 52:41really cared about them, but it was always one
- 52:43of those things, a part of the experience of
- 52:44a Super Bowl was like, oh, what's the commercials
- 52:47going to be? So I put Super Bowl commercials
- 52:50in a category now with like the shock value,
- 52:57kinda. So it's kinda like, if you remember, and
- 53:01if you're of our age. There used to be a thing
- 53:04called music videos and then they had the mtv
- 53:08vmas the video music awards Which they still
- 53:12have them for some reason, but there's no videos,
- 53:14but they still have the awards But every year
- 53:17at the awards It seemed like every year they
- 53:20were trying to top the last year right with the
- 53:23big surprise the big moment the big shock value
- 53:27the same I put it I put these commercials in
- 53:30the same as like I watch wrestling again. So
- 53:34in wrestling, they're always trying to, at these
- 53:38big like WrestleMania's, at certain times there's
- 53:41these big moments. Today, you know, as of this
- 53:44recording, the Royal Rumble is gonna happen today.
- 53:47Who's gonna be the surprise entrant? So every,
- 53:49you gotta try to top yourself every time. So
- 53:52sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. So
- 53:55I put Super Bowl commercials in that same space
- 53:59in that Now wrestling somehow pulls it off that
- 54:03they can continue to surprise you and shock you
- 54:06The VMAs got to a point to where I'm like, yeah
- 54:09y 'all just reaching and trying something, you
- 54:11know I mean, it's like you're you can tell that
- 54:13you're trying too hard To top yourself and I
- 54:18feel the same way with Super Bowl commercials
- 54:20now I feel like everyone's trying too hard and
- 54:24It doesn't always it's not hitting like it used
- 54:27to You know, and the beer commercials used to
- 54:29always have good ones. But it was you got to
- 54:32think like it wasn't always this way. You know,
- 54:35I don't know exactly when Super Bowl commercials
- 54:37started being a real, real big thing and everyone
- 54:40started catching on. And then now it's like a
- 54:42thing. And that's the way I feel about Super
- 54:44Bowl commercials, that they're just trying to
- 54:46top each other or top each year. What can we
- 54:49do? And I think sometimes they just try too hard.
- 54:55Mean I'll still watch them, but I kind of miss
- 54:57them and then each year I feel like then I watch
- 54:59them the day after normally online like you said
- 55:02But oh what I miss cuz I don't really pay attention
- 55:04to commercials. I hate commercials. So Then I
- 55:08watch them. I'm like meh it is what it is like,
- 55:12you know, I'm not like laughing too hard and
- 55:14I'm not like overwhelmed so Yeah, I'll say this
- 55:19I'll say this I'll give them all the the help
- 55:23and free advice that they need. If you wanna
- 55:27have a good, like a good ad run, the best thing
- 55:35that you can do to make it memorable and to make
- 55:37it stick is to make it funny. Don't make it silly,
- 55:40don't make it wacky. And make something that
- 55:45sticks that can sustain the test of time for
- 55:49the moment. And you know, you're spending a lot
- 55:52of money on it. And I know, you know, a lot of
- 55:55this is, you know, internet algorithm driven
- 55:57and all these things, but ultimately like you're
- 55:59broadcasting this thing live on television with
- 56:01everyone watching get on television, give them
- 56:04something. And if you give them something that's
- 56:07funny and entertaining, they'll be more likely
- 56:08to share it. Like, I don't care if you're going
- 56:10to put Matthew McConaughey in your commercial,
- 56:12dude. Don't care. Don't care. Yeah. Make it something
- 56:16that's funny. Make me laugh. And you got me.
- 56:19So, you know, I'll just, I'll end it on that.
- 56:22Yeah. It's pretty easy. Uh, and then again, like
- 56:25you said, make, make the day after a holiday
- 56:26and then we're so we're solid. Uh, yeah, it definitely
- 56:31needs to be, you know, it's, you know, you get
- 56:33Super Bowl Monday, get that cold, get that cold.
- 56:37Yeah. I mean, just make it, just make it a holiday.
- 56:39Just make it a, you know, it's easy. We have
- 56:42Valentine's day. Let's have Super Bowl. Alright,
- 56:48so that's another episode of Phenacly speaking
