- 0:45Speaker 2: So, hey, great to see you, Todd. You as most
- 0:48Speaker 2: of our our viewers here know who you are, of course,
- 0:51Speaker 2: Eagles right tackle Todd Harriman's great tackle tackle guard played
- 0:56Speaker 2: on every position but center for Andy Reid. So no
- 1:00Speaker 2: instruction necessarily there, Todd. These are our great Patreon members.
- 1:03Speaker 2: They ask awesome question. You're gonna love the caliber of
- 1:06Speaker 2: question that they ask.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Hey, DoD, I remember watching you for many years. Thank
- 1:11Speaker 3: you for.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Pretty much for doing this. My pleasure, my pleasure.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Two questions, one football one other. I noticed when we
- 1:21Speaker 3: were watched the game and you had Melatta and Dickerson
- 1:26Speaker 3: Enstein talking about communication. Okay, I know you all will
- 1:30Speaker 3: make calls at the line. But I'm curious to communication
- 1:34Speaker 3: when you adjust.
- 1:35Speaker 4: I'll answer this the best way I can.
- 1:37Speaker 5: I talked to a couple of guys after the game
- 1:39Speaker 5: last week, and when they were trying to run the
- 1:40Speaker 5: hurry up, you know, it was hard to distinguish what
- 1:45Speaker 5: was being said.
- 1:46Speaker 4: And some plays sound very similar.
- 1:48Speaker 5: And so when you have plays that sounds similar, you know,
- 1:52Speaker 5: when you're trying to hurry up and get things done
- 1:54Speaker 5: and the defense is screaming and everything like that, you know,
- 1:58Speaker 5: once I could hear something different than the other side.
- 2:02Speaker 5: And so if you guys aren't all five of you
- 2:04Speaker 5: moving on the same beat, then there's gonna be breakdowns
- 2:07Speaker 5: and protection. There's gonna be breakdowns and run schemes and
- 2:10Speaker 5: lanes and stuff like that. So that's just, you know,
- 2:15Speaker 5: an example of how important communication is.
- 2:18Speaker 4: So I believe it's a chain of commitments.
- 2:22Speaker 5: And you know, and I know that Landon being very
- 2:26Speaker 5: experienced on the on the offense and also just having
- 2:29Speaker 5: a pretty good football mind. I think he makes or
- 2:33Speaker 5: at least he helps out with a lot of calls
- 2:34Speaker 5: out there.
- 2:35Speaker 6: I had a kind of question about, like with offensive lines,
- 2:38Speaker 6: I know, what are conversations like behind.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Like with coaches say we need you in thisitue eight,
- 2:41Speaker 3: then you're not at that way, to.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Be honest, So.
- 2:46Speaker 5: It all depends on the coach, you know, Like Andy
- 2:50Speaker 5: Reid was never really I don't think he ever find
- 2:53Speaker 5: anybody for their weight. Like I don't know, like some
- 2:56Speaker 5: coaches are pretty strict about it and like give you
- 2:58Speaker 5: a window and you got to stay there. But I
- 3:01Speaker 5: do know certain certain position coaches, you know, have a
- 3:06Speaker 5: preference like Juan Castillo, he just wanted big dudes. And
- 3:10Speaker 5: so I remember when I got moved from tackle to
- 3:15Speaker 5: guard my second year. You know, in the meetings, Want
- 3:20Speaker 5: always would have this like he'd be drawn stuff on
- 3:22Speaker 5: the board and he had this equation that he'd like
- 3:24Speaker 5: he would put up and he'd be like mask kicks ass.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Todd, thanks for doing this.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Who was the toughest defensive lineman that you played against?
- 3:38Speaker 5: I always get this question, and it's not who you
- 3:41Speaker 5: would think, you know. I feel like as a tall guard,
- 3:47Speaker 5: I got used to playing guys that were shorter than
- 3:51Speaker 5: me a lot of time, so.
- 3:53Speaker 4: That was like the average. I just got used to
- 3:56Speaker 4: that and I got good against that.
- 3:58Speaker 5: But every now and then, especially you know, I would
- 4:01Speaker 5: get a tall guy that would come and it would
- 4:03Speaker 5: just be a little different, like different visualization of it.
- 4:08Speaker 5: I would fall for some stupid stuff that I normally
- 4:11Speaker 5: wouldn't for somebody that was shorter, and I just never
- 4:13Speaker 5: understood why. But the guy that comes to mind that
- 4:16Speaker 5: used to give me fits and he was he was
- 4:18Speaker 5: a solid player, but I mean he wasn't like a
- 4:21Speaker 5: world beater or anything, but Chris Canty. He was like
- 4:25Speaker 5: a six eight b lineman. He had a crazy face mask.
- 4:30Speaker 5: He played for shoot I think he played for Dallas,
- 4:34Speaker 5: he played for the Giants, didn't play for Washington. But yeah,
- 4:39Speaker 5: we just played against each other so much in the division,
- 4:42Speaker 5: and I just remember like beat me with some like
- 4:45Speaker 5: so silly moves sometimes and like Trey looking at me
- 4:48Speaker 5: and being like you.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Are right man, I'm just like, yeah, I don't know
- 4:52Speaker 4: what's going on. That's funny. What's up Chris? So you know,
- 4:57Speaker 4: I'm sure you watched the game.
- 4:59Speaker 5: It seemed like the interior of the line just wasn't
- 5:03Speaker 5: played up to their own standard.
- 5:04Speaker 4: I just think that there was nothing stood out in particular.
- 5:09Speaker 5: I mean they obviously the defense is focusing on stopping
- 5:13Speaker 5: the run, you know, jamming the box up and they
- 5:15Speaker 5: wanted to make sure that they could try to stop Saquon,
- 5:18Speaker 5: and I think that was like their number one thing
- 5:22Speaker 5: that they wanted to do, you know, which always makes
- 5:24Speaker 5: it tough, and you really need to as an offensive line,
- 5:28Speaker 5: you know, you can only block so many people, so
- 5:31Speaker 5: you know, you you really need to wait for the
- 5:33Speaker 5: play calls to change and stuff at that point. Also,
- 5:38Speaker 5: you know, communications tough sometimes, you know, communication gets screwed
- 5:42Speaker 5: up in a game, especially, I know that they were
- 5:45Speaker 5: trying to do a little like no huddle type stuff
- 5:48Speaker 5: early on, you know, to get some tempo and a
- 5:52Speaker 5: little bit of urgency going, and that can also screw
- 5:54Speaker 5: up with some things, you know, when you're when you're
- 5:56Speaker 5: trying to rush and get some calls out and then
- 5:58Speaker 5: get the ball out. You know, it's just it's a
- 6:02Speaker 5: tough quick chain to make everything happen, especially when you're
- 6:04Speaker 5: used to taking your trot up from the huddle, you know,
- 6:08Speaker 5: getting in your stance, looking around, you know, listening for
- 6:11Speaker 5: the call, echoing the call. You know, when you got
- 6:14Speaker 5: the whole play clock with you and you're not trying
- 6:17Speaker 5: to press it, it's a big difference.
- 6:20Speaker 7: You mentioned something when you started on here because you
- 6:22Speaker 7: were a guard at a tackle, and we're seeing kind
- 6:24Speaker 7: of with the offensive line right now. The specialization I
- 6:27Speaker 7: would see of a left tackle right tackle seems like
- 6:30Speaker 7: Scenbury specialized and somebody like you that could do multiple
- 6:33Speaker 7: things is less common. How would you impair yourself your
- 6:37Speaker 7: body to play the left the guard or would you
- 6:39Speaker 7: be able to do it? Because what I understand, you
- 6:41Speaker 7: really have to have a different strength side to play
- 6:44Speaker 7: both sides of the line.
- 6:45Speaker 4: How did you do that for me?
- 6:47Speaker 5: When I got to the league and then I was
- 6:49Speaker 5: backing up Tray at left tackle, and Wan liked to
- 6:54Speaker 5: keep a certain amount of guys and he wanted really
- 6:56Speaker 5: one guy to be a swing tackle, and since I
- 6:59Speaker 5: was playing left tackle, working that all through camp, and
- 7:04Speaker 5: then he saw me.
- 7:05Speaker 4: You know, I think I was second.
- 7:06Speaker 5: String left tackle, third string right tackle, and so I
- 7:10Speaker 5: was getting the reps on both sides and kind of
- 7:12Speaker 5: able to keep it fresh and not really lose the
- 7:16Speaker 5: right side technique like I had before. And then so then,
- 7:21Speaker 5: you know, I think it really depends on what you
- 7:23Speaker 5: have as your backups, what you have available. So like
- 7:26Speaker 5: I my personal experience like gave me the background to
- 7:30Speaker 5: be able to be pretty flexible in my stance and
- 7:33Speaker 5: play both sides. Some guys play left side all through college,
- 7:37Speaker 5: all through high school, get to the NFL, can't get
- 7:40Speaker 5: in the right handed stance or vice versa.
- 7:42Speaker 6: You get to twenty fifteen and you get released and
- 7:46Speaker 6: you you signed immediately with Colts, Right, how does that
- 7:50Speaker 6: affect your just your your feelings about football, your career,
- 7:56Speaker 6: who you are, Like, how do you move past understand
- 7:59Speaker 6: the end of kind of your career.
- 8:01Speaker 4: It's a thoughtful question.
- 8:03Speaker 5: So that's actually really tough because you know, I have
- 8:08Speaker 5: all these loyalties the Eagles organization. You know, if I
- 8:12Speaker 5: ended up in a different scenario, hard to say that
- 8:15Speaker 5: I last ten years. You know, I felt like it
- 8:17Speaker 5: was the perfect storm for me with you know, Andy
- 8:21Speaker 5: and his staff and Wan, you know, one I felt
- 8:25Speaker 5: like really bought into me because I was a Division
- 8:28Speaker 5: two guy. He was a Division two guy. I was
- 8:30Speaker 5: like his personal project.
- 8:31Speaker 4: You know.
- 8:32Speaker 5: It was really just the perfect scenario for me. And
- 8:35Speaker 5: then living in a city like Philly for ten years,
- 8:40Speaker 5: I knew it was going to come to an end
- 8:41Speaker 5: at some point. I was hoping that I could play
- 8:45Speaker 5: my whole career here and then just you know, retire
- 8:47Speaker 5: be in the area. And I really think that, you know,
- 8:52Speaker 5: I do think that there was a possibility of that
- 8:54Speaker 5: happening maybe if how he hadn't lost control, you know,
- 9:00Speaker 5: and Chip didn't kind of.
- 9:02Speaker 4: Clear out that that year.
- 9:06Speaker 5: You know, I probably didn't feel like I was justified
- 9:10Speaker 5: to be as mad as Lashawn or Dishawn, you know,
- 9:15Speaker 5: because I was getting older. I was I was higher
- 9:18Speaker 5: on the pay scale probably than what they wanted to
- 9:20Speaker 5: give me. I was more upset that, you know. I
- 9:25Speaker 5: talked to Chip after the season. I went up there.
- 9:28Speaker 5: I was like, Yo, what's going on? What do I
- 9:31Speaker 5: gotta do working on this year? You know, and he
- 9:33Speaker 5: just like looked at me in the eye and was like,
- 9:35Speaker 5: you just keep being Utah and you're doing great.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Two parts, so two patches, two touchdowns.
- 9:41Speaker 7: Did you have the best hands on the old line?
- 9:43Speaker 4: And do you have a favorite touchdown? Yeah?
- 9:47Speaker 5: So best hands on the offensive line, I think. So,
- 9:52Speaker 5: you know, I think that maybe Sean Andrews had pretty
- 9:56Speaker 5: good hands as well, But yeah, I would I would
- 10:01Speaker 5: claim that that Peter's had pretty good hands. So maybe
- 10:05Speaker 5: when Peter showed up, he might have taken that role.
- 10:08Speaker 5: But yeah, I would say I'm up there for sure,
- 10:10Speaker 5: definitely in the conversation. My favorite touchdown was the Seattle one,
- 10:17Speaker 5: the first one, just because just the whole circumstance of
- 10:23Speaker 5: it all. You know, they call this package, you know,
- 10:26Speaker 5: the heavy package, constantly, and I know that they're always
- 10:29Speaker 5: just coming out and we're calling a run play and
- 10:30Speaker 5: I'm just an extra tackle out there, you know. And
- 10:33Speaker 5: so I just remember, and dude, I had dislocated my
- 10:37Speaker 5: finger already this game, you know, so I was like
- 10:39Speaker 5: taped up when I could have. I had my hand
- 10:42Speaker 5: was like taped in a minton basically. And and so
- 10:48Speaker 5: when the play call came into the huddle, I like
- 10:51Speaker 5: I thought I would like misheard it, and so I
- 10:53Speaker 5: was like what And then I was like, oh shit,
- 10:55Speaker 5: that's mine, that's me, okay, okay. And then I'm also
- 10:58Speaker 5: kind of thinking to my myself, like, there's no way.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Donald's going to throw it to me. You know, He's
- 11:03Speaker 4: gonna go for sure.
- 11:04Speaker 5: Somebody else is going to be open, so he's going
- 11:06Speaker 5: to go for like the sure thing, you know. But
- 11:09Speaker 5: I mean I caught it every time in practice. I've
- 11:10Speaker 5: never given him a reason to not think that I
- 11:13Speaker 5: would complete it. After I caught it, you know, I'm excited,
- 11:16Speaker 5: and I spiked the ball, but just to see you
- 11:20Speaker 5: can see it in the picture, like right before I
- 11:22Speaker 5: spike it, all the linemen on the ground behind me,
- 11:25Speaker 5: and they're all like all just faces of just jubilee
- 11:28Speaker 5: and like their hands are in the air. And then
- 11:31Speaker 5: they all came and just attacked me and it was
- 11:33Speaker 5: a mob scene. Like dude, that was the one of
- 11:36Speaker 5: the best memories I'll ever have.
