- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of the Tortured Fans Department Podcast.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: As always, I'm your host, Sean Boyle, and joining me today is the man who won our master's draft that we had last week on the podcast, is Mr.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Michael Blum.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Can officially call him our golf expert.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Blum, how are you?
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Well, Sean, I'm good.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Thank you for having me again, and uh very happy to collect half of my winnings from that pool.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's just unreal.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: The other man who was on the draft last week, many of you know him as a founding father of this podcast, Mr.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Michael Collins.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: He has somehow shirked his responsibility of recording the follow-up episode to the Masters, and he has also not paid his debts.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: I believe a Collins always pays his debts.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: That's what I was under the impression of.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: I'm sure he'll get it to you at some point.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: I'm sure a lot's across his desk at the minute.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: I did send you your lunch money bum.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: It was not my idea either.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: It was, of course, Collins' idea to put stakes on it.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: He loves having some skin in the game, and of course, that ended up costing both me and him as you walked away with some good lunch money.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: And I will say I'll have to listen to that episode back, but I believe that's the only thing that I got right in the preview.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: I think I might add more Kawa top 10, but like everything else was just stinker after stinker for me.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: It was uh it was not our best work in terms of a preview.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Our picks to win were awful.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: We picked John Rom, Jordan Spieth, and Victor Hovland across the board.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Not very good.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Our top tens weren't good.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: The Collins pick of the week was so close.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: It was Ludwig top Nord, only to have Victor snipe him on Sunday.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: It was really tough.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: We will get into all of that.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: A little quick agenda for the day.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: We have a little masters recap.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: We're going to get into Tortured Fans of the Week.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: We'll do the best thing we saw.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: And then we're also going to return the segment Did You See This with some both sports and non-sports items.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: I did want to ask you one question before we dive in.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you want to address it on here, but I did win the baseball game draft.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: That voting has concluded.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: I bring this up because I was at my first baseball game of the year, and I'm happy to report it was the 16th consecutive victory in Philly's games that I've attended.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: I think they need to start paying for my ticket, but I have alerted the group each time I'm going to a game ahead of the game, so everyone is aware.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: And I'm 16-0 in my last 16.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: And I think in baseball, too, where it's more random, like it's that much more impressive.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: And I feel like not enough people are talking about this streak, Sean.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: You seem to bring the bad news fillies that always disappoint us every year.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: Some good luck whenever you go.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: So I agree.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, Middleton, Dombrowski, whoever's listening, like we got to get this postseason tickets because they don't lose when he's in the builder.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: I'm counting, I might even count the draft as a 17th consecutive victory.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: But I will say I was lucky I got Christopher Sanchez on the mound, the Phillies ace.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: That always helps.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: I promise I'm not usually scouting pitching matchups.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: And to be honest, this streak stretches the past, I would say, seven years because I've not been able to attend many games, especially when living outside of Pennsylvania.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: I was only ever able to see them play when they were in Cincinnati or Minnesota.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: So happy to get the Phillies back on the right track.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Let's dive into the Masters.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Rory McElroy won his second consecutive green jacket.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Blum, I'm just going to toss it to you.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: What were your thoughts on his performance at Augusta National this whole weekend?
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: I thought he played pretty well for the most part.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: Um, obviously, I think a lot of people are going to talk about being up, you know, seven strokes after Friday to find himself, you know, down two on Sunday.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: Like that's going to happen.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: Like, guys are going to make charges.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: It was a stacked leaderboard.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: You had every big name.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: You had the guy that almost beat him last year, Justin Rose.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: You had, you know, Scotty over there.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, guys like Russell Henley, Mark Kawa were up there as well, uh, Patrick Reed.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: So it was a great leaderboard, but I think his ability to not get rattled, obviously, he's been there before.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: He knows what it takes to win.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: He's one of the best players in the world.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: I never thought for one second that like I don't think he's going to do it.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: Like, if I was a betting man, which I'm not, I would when Rory dipped into the plus odds, I feel like that was like the best bet you could have made at the time.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: And um, obviously he had the the bad T shot on 18, which caused some doubt, but I was able to get it up around the green, on and two putt for the win.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: So I thought um it was a very impressive performance.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: And not like not a lot of people talked about him as a winner.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: I know we didn't do that on this podcast.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: So um, you know, it's only happened four times back-to-back masters champs.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: So definitely uh, you know, very impressive uh by him.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we kind of thought he might be resting on his laurels a bit after winning last year.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Kind of seemed like he had reached the pinnacle and achieved everything he wanted to in the game.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: But it actually just freed him up.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: And I think that's what we saw on Thursday and Friday when he was able to build that lead out to set six or seven shots.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: It was him just being so at ease.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: He was making putts that he would normally not make it, Augusta, because he's hitting him with a little bit more pressure behind them.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: I think everything just opened up and he was a much different player because of it.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: And then as you mentioned, it did get tight on the weekend, but he was able to just constantly remind himself, I've already won one of these.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: I think winning last year allowed him to win this year.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: I think it would be a much different story if he was still searching for his first and he had given away that seven-shot lead.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: I think we'd be maybe talking about a different champion right now.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: But I think, like you said, it was well deserved.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: Rory has cemented himself now.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Six majors is no joke.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: That is up there with the greats in the game of golf.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: From a historical context, where do you think Rory ultimately ends up?
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: And I guess realistically, do you think he can add more majors to that tally, especially with how we just mentioned, he seems to be a perfect course fit at Augusta, and he's definitely swinging free there.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think you his name, I think his name needs to come up in conversations of, you know, I think one of the greatest.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Like he's becoming a big tournament golfer.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Obviously, the Masters was the one that always eloted him.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: He's checked that box off, you know, twice in the last two years.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: So I think, you know, at the end of tier one, beginning of tier two, obviously he's not like Tiger, he's not, you know, Jack, he's not that level in terms of like accolades, Gary Player.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: But I think when it's all said and done, he's what, 37, 38, like he has probably what 10, 12 more years of major level golf in him.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, he's dedicated, he's gonna take care of his body.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: Um, and also like as long as he's able to you know keep playing Augusta like 20 times for the masters, I don't see him ever losing again at that course.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a good point.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: That was one of the big storylines was during one of his interviews, he mentioned that he would drop his daughter off at school and then fly his private plane to Augusta, play 18 holes, and fly back to be able to pick her up and have dinner with the family.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: That just that day is just better than anything I'll ever be able to do.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: And I didn't know, like, I know the course is open, guys can go and play like practice rounds and all, but I wasn't aware to that level that he was doing that.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: I guess it wasn't public knowledge, so it was curious to hear him even say, like, yeah, I feel like I had an unfair advantage because I was playing this course like ten times the week before.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: So I was a little like, should have should he have said that?
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: I don't know, but I feel like that raised some little question marks about the win.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it did raise an eyebrow for me too, because it almost seemed like he went out of his way to mention it.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: It was like, by the way, I do fly private and I do play Augusta National more than you do.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: So it was kind of a flex.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: And I think too, I don't know about you, but he's becoming a little borderline, like unlikable to me, the way that he treats the media.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Oh, like this isn't Scotty here.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: The green jacket comment of like, oh, I already have one of these, whatever happens, happens.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, like you said, the private jet stuff.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: Like, Scotty, yes, did Scotty have a bad exchange with a reporter?
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: But Rory, I don't know if it's like the European in him, but comes across as a little more like snotty and like arrogant with the attitude of like, oh, I'm a grand slam winner now.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: Maybe I'm off, maybe um you can you put me in check, but that was one of my takeaways as well.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: No, I don't think you're totally off base.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: He also has that, he's a small Irishman, and he has a little bit of that Connor McGregor walk to him.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: He bounces up and down when he walks.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: He has a certain swagger with his stride.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: So I think that might play into it.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: He definitely could be cocky at times, and I could see how you might be rubbed the wrong way a little bit.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: I'm a big Rory guy, and I think maybe some of that stuff is him trying to talk himself into things where he's almost speaking out loud, oh, I'm not nervous.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: I've won this already, I already have a green jacket at home.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: Where it's kind of like it's almost like he's covering in case something bad does happen.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Because I still think deep down there is probably some trauma built into some of the collapses he's had.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I will say that's a good thing to bring up.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: I'm not so sure his daughter is a huge fan of his.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: She might be in the same camp as you because you mentioned when we were preparing for this, she did not seem even a little bit interested on 18 after he won.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: I don't think there was a more upset person in the world that Rory won than Poppy.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Like there was not a semblance of a smile on that girl's face.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: No, no.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: And I will say she also made a pretty crazy putt one of the last couple years at the part three contest, and Shane Lowry was playing with them and Rory, and they all went wild, and Poppy just kind of handed the putter back and said, next hole.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: So Poppy just might not be into the sport of golf too much.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's her vibe, just like, hey, this is what I do.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: Like I show up, I leave, like I don't look like I'm enjoying myself, but uh I'm here.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the other girl, Poppy.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: You score a touchdown, you hand the ball, you hand the ball at the ref.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about some of the good performances that ultimately fell a bit short.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: We have mentioned Scotty.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: We've alluded to him.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: He finishes in second place, one shot back, countless missed opportunities with the flat stick for Scotty this week.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: I think he would agree he hit it more than well enough to win.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: I will say we touched on his exchange with the reporter, just completely uncalled for, a drive-by to Jason Sobel.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Sobel was one of the mainstays in golf media.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: He's been around for 30 years, and he asked he asked Scotty a pretty simple question just do you think he could have got more out of the round?
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: But Scotty shot a good score, and Scotty just hit him back with awful question next.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: And come to find out, Jason Sobel bought his firstborn a putter with the Masters logo on it, and he had another putter lined up to give his second born this week at the Masters, and Scotty just spit in his face.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: So I I'll I'll let you talk about his play and his off-course performance this week.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: So first off, I did not know about that putter story, so that's added uh you know stake in the heart.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: But um yeah, I feel like in regards to the interview question, I can see both sides of it.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: I I think it was poorly worded, like you could tell what Silva was going for.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Like it came across of like, oh, you just shot like a 65 D'Agusta, the best round of your life, like be better.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: And I think that's how Scotty took it.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: So I could see both sides, but also like in that position, you just like need to go to your you know, stereotypical like athlete answer of just like talking around and like answering a question that you know golfers get all the time.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Um, but in regards to the play, I thought, you know, he like hovered a lot Thursday, Friday.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: He was just always around, and then you know, obviously you had the 65, and then I think everyone's gonna talk about, you know, we were robbed of a Scotty Rory playoff on that putt on 17 that he missed by probably less than a millimeter.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: So interesting to look back on that as well.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: But uh, I mean he's still he's still the best in the world.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: I don't think a one-stroke loss at Augusta is going to taint him at all.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: Uh, so he'll be back, but definitely, you know, it was a Scotty performance, so I think we all expected it.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think that's well said.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: He just needed to make a couple more putts, especially on Thursday or Friday, and he probably is wearing that green jacket instead of Rory.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Another couple of guys who will leave this week feeling a little bit disappointed will be Cam Young and Justin Rose.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: I guess let's start with Cam Young just because he played in that final pairing with Rory.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: A young American golfer, he's going to be in the mix at a lot of majors.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: So anytime you feel like an opportunity slips through your fingertips, I'm sure it's disappointing, but I don't think he should be too discouraged.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: I think we're both on the same page.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: We see him winning one of these pretty soon.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: He's so good.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: So good.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: Like he's he he will win multiple majors.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: I think his let's put a number on it.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: Let's get wild.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: Let's get let's put a number on it.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: What is he like 20 27, 28?
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it'd say he's around 28.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: I'll give him three.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: That's I think that's fair.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: I I was worried you were gonna say something crazy, like seven, which not to put him in a box, but that's a that's a very, very large amount of majors.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: Three is high, but it's I mean, he's that good.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: Like I'll give him a green jacket and maybe like two PGA championships if we're getting specific.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so nothing really to worry about with Cam Young, just a not the best Sunday, really kind of stunk it up on Sunday when he had an opportunity there in front of him.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: A guy who will be disappointed, and and the clock is starting to tick, is Team Rose, Justin Rose.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: This guy, I mean, his eighth top ten at Augusta.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: He's well into his 40s.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: He plays this course better than anybody, but it always seems like he's the bridesmaid and never the bride.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: I was rooting for him so hard.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: I wanted him to win so badly.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: He was he was my old, the one that single-handedly got me my uh my ten-dollar lunch.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: Uh thank you, MC.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: But uh, yeah, I mean he I get timeless, timeless golfer.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: Um, I I think you said time's running.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: I think this was his maybe last true chance at winning a green jacket.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: I hope I'm wrong.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: You know, he can play, obviously, he I think he'll play good golf into his 40s as well.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: Um he'll be what 40s think, six next year or late this year.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: But uh yeah, that was heartbreaking.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: I was really, really rooting for him.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's another guy.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: He just couldn't couldn't make any putts, couldn't, couldn't get a putt to drop throughout much of the week and weekend.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: So tough stuff for Justin Rose.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: He's a class act, a top man as as usual in defeat.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: Anyone else you wanted to mention as we put a bow on the Masters?
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: So I'll quickly shout out um my guy, Victor Howlin, who embarrassed me the first three days.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: He made a late Sunday charge before a costly double on 15 that that set him back.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: He probably wasn't going to win.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: I think he was six under going into 15, so he would have to like, you know, two Eagles and two birdies, which you're not going to do that on the closing stretch at Augusta.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: Uh Morakawa and Russell Henley, they had really strong Sundays.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: Morakawa, too.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: I was watching him.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: He was like limping around the entire It was AARP really hamming up that back injury.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: That makes it that much more impressive.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Like, I thought watching him walk the course on Thursday, I thought we're heading for another withdrawal.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Like, there's no way this guy can walk that course for four more days.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: And he not only did that, but he got a top 10 out of it.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: So I wanted to shout out him.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: And Russell Henley, I thought, played very consistent golf all four days.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: He's probably never a guy that you're never going to look at and be like, yeah, he's going to win a major just because he lacks that kind of it factor, but just a very like solid 8 out of 10 golfer.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: Like, you know what you're going to get out of him.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think with Morikawa, I'll touch on first.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm I'm concerned he might have been hamming it up.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: I'm trying not to be a cynic, but he was absolutely going at flagsticks on Saturday to close his round, and then on Sunday, he he was dialed in to a really, really high level, and then you see him bend down to pick his ball up out of the hole, and you would think it was the senior tour.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: So I'm not sure how he's able to swing 175 miles per hour ball speed, and then it's it's it's cumbersome to bend and to walk.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: Maybe he was put on a show for the f for the patrons, but either way, you're right.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: Colin was impressive this weekend.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: And then with Russell Henley, yeah, he's one of those guys where he's just a really good golfer, but if you don't know what he sounds like, you're probably not he's probably never gonna be a household name.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: And I just don't know that I know what Russell Henley sounds like.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: I've never seen him do an interview.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: He's not that guy.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: I think I've heard him talk once after he won like the Arnold Palmer last year, one of the signature events, and he just sounds like exactly how you would imagine a Russell Henley sounds like, is the best I can describe it.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: Straight from central casting.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: All right, final thoughts.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: Why don't we put a number on it out of one to ten in terms of the Masters is great.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: Every year it always delivers.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: Some years are a little bit more intriguing than others.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: I thought this year was phenomenal.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: In particular, Saturday.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: It seemed like you just couldn't get a feel for what was going to happen.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: Any scenario was in play.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: So just give me a number score one through ten on how you will remember this year's Masters.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: I would probably go like eight and a half, I would say.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Like I, like you said, Saturday, I think was by far the highlight.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: It looked very, very bleak after Rory's charge late Friday, where we were headed for a stinker of a weekend.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: He fell back to the pack, you know, guys behind him got hot.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: And then, you know, by the back nine on Sunday, like it was just full on.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: Like six or seven guys could win this one.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't be surprised.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: Um, then obviously he said Rosie couldn't make a putt, Scotty couldn't make a putt.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: You know, we lost like Patrick Reed fell, Troll Hatton was up there as well.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: You know, he had a um a bad, I think it was Saturday as well.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: But um, you got the little bit of the last whole drama when Rory, you know, went right on his t-shot, but I don't, I would never like doubted that he would just bogey that hole even from that position.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: He had plenty of room to just get up and around the green.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: But uh overall, I mean, we got a good winner.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: It was, you know, good leaderboard, you know, some Sunday drama, fun moving day.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: So I think eight and a half is is a fair grade.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was right in that same ballpark.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go eight.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: The only differentiating factor I had was I think that the course setup was a little bit questionable.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: I thought the toughest day was Thursday, which maybe it had something to do with the wind, but we don't get masters forecasts without without any rain in the picture anymore.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: And we finally had one of those this year, and it just kind of stinks that we didn't get to see a real, real, proper test on the weekend.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: Saturday in particular, it it played pretty easy, and there was a lot of people well under par.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: So I get they wanted to create the moving day electricity on the leaderboard, and I think in that aspect it worked because it was able to allow the field to catch up to Rory.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: So I'm not sure that they would do it differently if they could.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: Just selfishly, when you like seeing guys struggle a little bit, some more water balls and things of that nature.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: I would have hoped for a little bit of faster greens at the very least over the weekend.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: And one more miscellaneous thought.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: I always forget every year how much I love the 15th hole.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Like is that not like the best hole?
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: Dude, it's so good.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: And I can't emphasize enough when I went it that green, it it is so thin, and they're hitting 230 plus yard shots onto it and stopping them when when executed properly.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: It I can't emphasize enough how hard that is.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: It seems impossible, borderline impossible.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: I know for me, you could give me a bucket of balls from about 100 yards, and I might keep one or two out of those hundred on the green, just on the green.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: And these guys are flagging balls from 230.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: It's incredible, it just shows you the level that they're at compared to Osposos.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: Like you could eagle, wouldn't be surprised.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: You can get a nine, wouldn't be surprised.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: And I'm talking like professionals too, and like the amount of guys that like how far would you say that water is in the back of the green?
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Like 60 yards, 50 yards behind the green?
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: In the deepest part, it's probably 50 or 60 yards behind the the flag.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: And there were about maybe at least 10 balls that ended up in there.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: Just like if you landed an inch long, it's rolling for days, and that ball's gone.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: And if you keep it up, you still have the one of the hardest chips in golf just to keep it on the green during your chip shot.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: So it's just an iconic hole.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: And it probably is underrated in terms of the masters because I feel like A-Men Corner gets all the attention, and then some of the opening holes as well, because everybody's tuned in for the start of the round.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: 15, you're right.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: I'm glad you brought that up.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: And another thing, I I one more shout out this guy, whenever he's around, it's an absolute delight.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: Hao Tong Li.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, he absolutely ruined Scotty Scheffler's masters.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: He played with him on Sunday, and Hao Tong was in the jungle on 13 for a good 40 minutes, just icing Scotty out.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: And it was so funny.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: He picked up his ball at one point when he shouldn't have.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: He it was a true menace.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: He made a 10, he made a six the hole before.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: He's just electric every time he's around.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: I'm very glad you mentioned him, Sean.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: He also putted the ball in the water on that hole.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: Right down the hill.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: Uh forgot to book a screen.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: On the course, splash.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: He put after spending several shots in the jungle, he got to the green and put it back in the water.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: Just that's good stuff, Hao Tung.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: We're happy to have you around.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: I would love to know.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: I if you said an over-under on maybe like 30 and a half minutes, they were on that hole.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: I feel like it would probably be over.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think the announcer said that Scotty was 100 and some yards away and he had walked up to the green and back two different times.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: Just while he was waiting for how tong to get situated.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: At that point, that's a put her hand up and go ahead and hit Scotty.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: I think we we're all we've all played ready golf before.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: Shout out Hao Tong.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: Shout out Hao Tong.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about our Tortured Fans of the Week, Blum.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: This one is going to hit close to home for both of us here.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: It's it's bad and worse.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: So let's start with the bad, which I believe is your Tortured Fans of the Week, because there's no way it is worse than my current situation.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: Probably not, Sean, but uh I do need a platformed event, so so thank you for that.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: Uh my tortured fans of the week are fans of the Philadelphia 76ers.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: You can't make it up.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: You can't make it up.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: No, they can't.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: Uh, more specifically, fans of Joel Embiid, who is probably one of the best basketball players I have seen at his peak play.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: He just can't catch a break with injuries.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: Obviously, he missed the first two years of his career, had numerous leg, meniscus injuries.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: Even when he's healthy, every year there's a random injury that pops up.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: He's fractured his orbital orbital bone when one of his teammates shouldered him the cheek.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: He had Bell's palsy where he couldn't feel the right side of his face.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: I forgot about the palsy.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Bell's palsy.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: And he also had another leg injury on top of that as well, and he played through it.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: Now we have this year where hey, he's fully healthy.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: You know, maybe the team's not great.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: Probably wouldn't do much in the playoffs, but we had some semblance of hope.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: And out of nowhere, we hit our hit with the Shams report that appendicitis.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: A little appendectomy in in early April for my MVP.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: Oh man.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it you said it all.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: You you covered it all.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: It's truly uh astonishing the things that he has gone through personally, and therefore the Sixers have gone through because of his ability to just find insane ways to be unavailable.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: He is so consistent that anytime it gets into April, May, something crazy is going to happen to Joel Embiid, and he will not be able to play.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: And the Sixers don't stand a chance without him.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: They, like you said, they probably didn't stand a chance with him, but you could talk yourself into something with Joel Embiid on the court.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: You have a pretty good five with him healthy, and uh without him, it's just it's doom and gloom.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: It it really is bad vibes in Philadelphia.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: The Flyers, hey, uh, can I talk you into some hockey?
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: You can try, but yeah, no one really cares.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: So so yeah, tough times for the Sixers.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: The Philly fans are pivoting and becoming hockey fans.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: That's a little bit gross.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: A lot of them haven't watched a game all season of the Flyers, and now they're diehards.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: We know a few of those.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: My tortured fans this week are my beloved Tottenham Hotspur.
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: Oh god, I try not to talk English football on this platform because we mostly talk American sports, we talk pop culture, we try to have fun with it, connect with everybody, but I have been putting this off all year, and it's come to a head, and I need to address it.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: My favorite team in all of sports is on the brink of relegation.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: For those of you that don't know, relegation is synonymous with death.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: It is awful, it could completely ruin the fortunes of a football club forever.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: It has that it could have that long of effects on a team, on a club.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: And Tottenham are one of the richest clubs in all of Europe, one of the ten richest in the world, one of the big six in England, and it's been considered unfathomable for one of those big six to ever actually get relegated.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: The way you win in football is often tied to how much money you spend, and those six seem to be head and shoulders above much of the competition year in and year out.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: So the worst one of them should ever finish is around 12th or 13th during a very bad season.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: Well, Tottenham finished 17th last season, one place above relegation.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: We flirted with disaster, but to be honest, we were never really in the mud.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: We had a pretty clear points gap of the teams below us.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: We never really started to sweat.
- 26:37SPEAKER_00: Well, this season, folks, it is completely different.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: We're 18th, we are two points away from safety, and there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: Every time you think there's light at the end of the tunnel, that is just an oncoming train.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: There is a countless number of injuries.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: All of our best players have spent most of the season on the sidelines.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: We've fired two managers at this point.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: We're on our third manager of the season, and we have six games left to try to pull a rabbit out of a hat and stay in the Premier League next season.
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: If you guys have watched Ted Lasso, he makes a joke that, oh, you get relegated from the Premier League and you go to the championship, doesn't sound so bad.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: Ted, you're so wrong.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: It's it's it's worse than bad.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: It's the worst thing that could ever happen.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: So I've been battling that.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: Bum any sympathy dad.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: I I feel your pain.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm battling appendicitis, you're battling relegation.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: Like the boys are in bad, bad shape right now.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: Well, let's try to flip the script.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about the best things we saw this week.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: I'll let you kick it off.
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: So the the best thing I saw this week was the uh the WNBA draft was was this week.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: Uh the Dallas Stars had the first overall pick.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: Uh they drafted uh Izzy Fudd uh from UConn, teaming her with her current girlfriend, Paige Beckers, who also plays at UConn, which when I saw that I thought that was very cool.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: Obviously, it's very rare you could play with your significant other, uh, let alone in professional sports.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: But that also made me think of the question I posed to you, Sean.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: Would you want to work with a significant other?
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's tough.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: I I don't know.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it seems unavoidable that you end up just meeting most of the people in your life at work, so you feel like you're tempted to at some point date a coworker.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: I think the short answer would be no.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: Let's stay, let's avoid that.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: I think our messaging as a podcast should be we we don't we don't fish in the same pond that we work in.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think my my official stance would be like if it was a corporate job, maybe nine to five, I feel like I would be much more likely to.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: But in like a professional sports world where like there's trades, you can get released at any time, you can move across the country.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: That I think would be more of an obstacle.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: But uh I am rooting for them.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: I'm a big fan of Paige.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: Uh, not as familiar with uh AZ FUD, but obviously she's a great player, so uh, you know, we'll see what happens.
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's cool.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: And I didn't know that they got drafted to the same team, and I'm a WMBA guy, so that's I'm glad you brought that onto my radar.
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: I do think it would be different as well, like you mentioned with professional sports, just the locker room dynamic.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: There's other people sharing that space with you.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: So I think that does change things a bit.
- 29:32SPEAKER_00: And usually it's pretty tight quarters in terms of just how many people are working there.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: In a corporate office, sometimes you could go a whole day without seeing your significant other.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: So yeah, definitely different for a basketball to share a backcourt with your significant other.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: Uh, my best thing I saw is Marie Luis Etta.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: She becomes the first woman to manage a top-flight European men's football team.
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: So I'm very football-centric this episode, soccer, as you may call it.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: But she was hired by Union Berlin in the Bundesliga in Germany to take over for the rest of the season.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: First time it's been done in all of Europe's top six leagues.
- 30:09SPEAKER_00: So really cool to see them finally doing that.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: I think it's long overdue.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: And I would recommend that the United States women's national team coach Emma Hayes, I would love to have her at Tottenham.
- 30:19SPEAKER_00: I think she's a proper, proper football coach, and we're in need of one of those.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: Is she a former player, Sean?
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: I would assume.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: The one that got hired by Union Berlin.
- 30:30SPEAKER_00: Yes, she is.
- 30:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: Good for her.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: That's awesome.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm not sure how high a level she played at, but I know she's been working on getting her coaching badges, which is something you need to coach professional football over there.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: So she's been in the in the mix for a while.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: And the Bundesliga is a pretty good league, too, isn't it?
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: Like secondary to the Premier League in terms of Europe.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's right, it's right up there with Italy, Syria, and La Liga in Spain.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: It's it's a very good league, one of the top five for sure, and you can make an argument of the second best.
- 30:57SPEAKER_00: So and they're always at the forefront of a lot of things, too.
- 31:00SPEAKER_00: They have some cool ownership models where fans have to own 50 plus 1% of each club, which is awesome.
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: So they get to vote on decisions surrounding the club.
- 31:09SPEAKER_00: Really cool league, and I think this is another notch in their belt.
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: Let's go, Maria Louie.
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: All right, let's do it.
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: Did you see this?
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: It's it's one of my favorite segments that we do.
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: I think it's a fan favorite as well.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: So hopefully this lives up to the hype.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: Uh I think we have to start here, Blum.
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: It's the story that has taken over NFL headlines the last couple of weeks.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: It is the Diana Roussini Mike Vrabel situation.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: For listeners that are unaware, Diana Roussini was formerly a reporter for the Athletics.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: She has since stepped down very recently at the time of recording.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: But she was an NFL insider.
- 31:48SPEAKER_00: She has been a long time NFL insider.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: She's worked for ESPN, various other networks, and she was seen cozying up next to active Patriots head coach, former Titans head coach, which you will have to answer for, but Mike Vrabel.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: So they were at a resort, I believe, in Arizona, just outside a wine country.
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: Some photos holding hands, lounging by the pool at an exclusive couples resort.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: It's all alleged, it's all hearsay, it's a couple of still photos, nothing too incriminating, but where there's smoke, there's fire, and this story has gotten out of control.
- 32:25SPEAKER_00: So, what were your thoughts on this whole situation?
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: So it's funny, when I saw this, it took me back to so Vrabel was hired by the Titans in 2018.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: There were a few, like obviously, I'm a Titans fan for those listening that don't know.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: There were obviously like the Titans reporters that like I follow for team news, actives and inactives on Sundays, things like that.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: When Vrabel got hired in 2018, oh no, Diana Roussini suddenly knew more about the Titans.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: This is when she worked at ESPN.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: She was breaking more Titans news than before.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: So it's like, oh, like this is cool.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: Like I have like a you know an ESPN face like that's in the know on the Titans, just not thinking anything of it.
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: So obviously, variable, he gets fired in what 2023.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: Suddenly, Diana Rushini, not as in the no on the Titans as she was in 2018.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: Leading up to this pod, I saw you had this topic research.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: She reported some Patriots news this year, Sean.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: Did she?
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: She did.
- 33:35SPEAKER_01: She had some stuff out there.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: So listen, we're not pointing fingers, we're not saying I'm just giving you what we know as facts.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: They were pictured together.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: There are pictures online.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: Um the Roussini Vabel relationship goes back to, I believe, to be 2018.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: She's on record saying they are friends, they have hung out together in the past.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: Are these photos evidence that there may be something more?
- 34:05SPEAKER_01: Potentially.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: Potentially.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: Potentially.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: Potentially.
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: Allegedly, potentially, yeah.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's not who amongst us hasn't interwalked fingers with some close friends at an exclusive couples resort.
- 34:18SPEAKER_00: But Bum, that's that's pretty damning stuff out of you.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: Great boots on the ground work as a Titans fan.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: There's not many podcasts across the country giving you that.
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: I think I'm willing to go as far as saying that's a smoking gun.
- 34:30SPEAKER_00: That is a smoking gun in this drama.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, I'm surprised that she stepped down from the athletic, I guess, but I guess I read that she was only she only had a couple months left on her contract.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: So maybe just at that point, it's the easiest thing to do.
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: Avoid any further speculation and try to let the story die down a bit instead of fanning the flames even further.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: Really tough look, if anything is true.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: You know, there's there's families and significant others in play as well.
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: So it's it's a gross situation.
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: I hope that the Patriots fans are able to sleep well at night, knowing another one of their coaches might have some pretty vile behavior in his love life.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: And also, I'm a big fan of like Diana Rossini's like a very funny personality.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: Umbrella, like she'll always joked about like how much she likes she doesn't like her husband, like they don't like text all the time.
- 35:19SPEAKER_01: So it's funny like seeing those clips like resurface now, and like you have all the trolls out on social media.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: So that didn't help her cause either.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it always amazes me how people are able to track back and find these things so quickly.
- 35:34SPEAKER_00: So I pray we never get to that level where people care enough about what we say to spit it back in our face.
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: Uh, let's let's move on to one of the things I put in the dock here.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: It is Italy fails to qualify for the third consecutive World Cup.
- 35:49SPEAKER_00: Really tough stuff for the Italians.
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: A sport that they say they invented, they try to claim that their game, calcio, as they call it, is theirs.
- 35:59SPEAKER_00: Uh, they have not made any of the last three World Cups.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: It's a blessing in disguise for those of us here in the United States because we do not now have to put up with these fake Italian Americans pretending to care about soccer and parading around America all summer, like the cast of the Jersey Shore in tight-fitting soccer kits.
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: So I'm so happy we avoid that.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: We saw them start to buck their heads during the World Baseball Classic, where they got a bunch of actual Americans with an Italian grandfather to pitch for them, and they started talking a lot of smack then, and you saw them come out of the woodwork, but we don't have to deal with them this summer, so I think it's a win for us.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: And and Sean, do you know are the Italians that were representing the team trying to make are they like true Italians, or are we talking like Aaron Nolo situation?
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: No, they they're true blooded Pisons.
- 36:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, they're unfortunately they're just not that good at football anymore.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: They lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina to not make the World Cup.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: That's not the Italy I grew up knowing.
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: They won the Euros in 2020 as the best team in Europe and haven't made a World Cup in the last three cycles.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: So really gross, gross stuff.
- 37:11SPEAKER_00: The whole the whole country is irate.
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: I don't know what they're gonna do all summer.
- 37:16SPEAKER_00: I guess living in Italy is a nice consolation.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: I guess I can offer them that.
- 37:20SPEAKER_00: So I do actually have sympathy for those that live over there and breathe it.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: This is more a targeted attack at the fake Italian Americans who are gonna pretend that they care.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: We know a few of those, like you said.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: We know a few of those.
- 37:31SPEAKER_00: Basically, New Jersey.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: What do you have and did you see this?
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: So I know we talked about the Masters, we gave some analysis.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: Uh, some funny things I think happened at Augusta that you don't normally see.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: One at Augusta or two just even at a golf tournament in general.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: So uh one of the names I know we were all pretty high on, Rob McIntyre.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: He was my dark horse winner.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: He did not see the weekend.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: He had a very rough Thursday, Friday, uh, which included flipping off some patrons.
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: I don't know what they were saying to him, I don't know what prompted him, but understandable when you're playing like that at you know golf's most famous tournament, that's gonna you know spark some emotion out of you.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: Um and then also Sergio Garcia.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: You hate to see this, Sean.
- 38:20SPEAKER_01: You really hate to see this from our guy Sergio.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: But uh he was playing with John Rahm on Sunday.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: Uh T-shot goes left.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: He smacks his driver, not once but twice, into the T-box, and then proceeds to find the nearest cooler by the T-Box, takes a good swing at that with the driver, snaps the driver head off the shafts.
- 38:46SPEAKER_01: And then also, I was confused about this too.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: He proceeded to carry John Rahm's bag down the fairway, which I didn't understand.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: Do you know why he he did that?
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: No.
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: I and I honestly didn't even know that that's how he broke his driver, was hitting it off a cooler.
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: I thought that got destroyed during his hitting of the ground, but uh that's that's funny that he took it out on a cooler as well.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: That's I did see this blum, and it's it's sad, especially for Big Shot Bob.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: We expect these sort of things out of Sergio.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: He's famous for a meltdown, he's attacked bunkers all over the world.
- 39:20SPEAKER_00: He's had some spicy press conferences after some pretty terrible performances, so that's nothing new.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: To see Big Shot Bob acting like this, he had a couple of expletive rants too that were caught on a hot mic on a T-Box.
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: A lot of F bombs, a couple times saying, I wish I I just want to get out of here.
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: The the flipping off of a patron, it's tough.
- 39:44SPEAKER_00: It's it's a bad day to be a Big Shot Bob supporter.
- 39:47SPEAKER_00: We'll bounce back though.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: I I believe in him.
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: Just uh we all have bad weeks.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: We we do, especially with expectations, too.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: I think that played a part in why you might have been just so mad.
- 39:57SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about some non-sport.
- 39:59SPEAKER_00: Did you see this now?
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: This is where we get loose here.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: This is where we kick our shoes off and we we start to just pick little potpourri of things from across the way.
- 40:08SPEAKER_00: What do you have for me?
- 40:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I feel like Sean, you've been uh showing worldwide this episode with all your football topics.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: So I am going to take you to Warsaw, Poland, where a video crossed my timeline um earlier this week, where a robot, just a full-on human robot, was in a full-on sprint chasing after wild boars.
- 40:36SPEAKER_01: Just no context whatsoever.
- 40:39SPEAKER_01: There was maybe three or four of them.
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: The robot was trying his best, couldn't catch them, so the robot just stopped and then raised his fist in frustration.
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: Oh no.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: I did not see this.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: This is the first time hearing of such an incident.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: I don't want to see it either.
- 40:57SPEAKER_00: That's this is where I'm starting to get worried about technology.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: We can't have robots acting like Sergio and Big Shot Bob and have the ability to chase down wild boars.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: Like I've I've seen videos of robots like in a room where they would mimic the motions of a human right next to them, whether it's be like putting an arm up, like very simple movements.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: What was this robot doing?
- 41:23SPEAKER_01: Did it break free of a house?
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: Did it like unlock a door?
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: That's what scares me.
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: I don't like this at all, Sean.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: I want them to keep this.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: If this is going to be our future, keep them in Warsaw, and please do not bring them over the Atlantic Ocean.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: Jesus.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't want any part of that as well.
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: Please take that all away from me, sir.
- 41:44SPEAKER_00: We're done here with the robots.
- 41:46SPEAKER_00: I I'm just not a fan of any of that, and that's just it's disconcerting hearing something like that, Bomb.
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: Another thing, too.
- 41:53SPEAKER_01: So I I did a deep dive on this, Sean, and apparently wild boars, like just running loose in Warsaw, is very, very common, which again, terrifying in its own right, let alone a robot walking around.
- 42:07SPEAKER_00: So this is just pest control.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: This is really this is this is the game commission in the United States.
- 42:13SPEAKER_00: So in Poland, they just have full-blown autonomous robots doing their bidding.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: Listen, I still have so many questions about this, so I can report back if needed, but just the combination of wild boars and robots does not so well with me.
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: No, I'm with you a hundred percent.
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm out on the whole uh topic, everything involved.
- 42:34SPEAKER_00: No, thank you.
- 42:34SPEAKER_00: I have a much better thing to look at, at least.
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: Have you seen the Sabrina Carpenter music video for her song House Tour, which features Madeline Klein and Margaret Qually alongside her?
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: This is a song that's been out since last year, I believe.
- 42:51SPEAKER_00: So I was it was weird to see a music video being released now.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: I'm guessing it has something to do with Coachella, where she's headlining this weekend, which we will get into in a minute.
- 43:01SPEAKER_00: But have you seen this music video, Blum?
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: I have.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: I've seen the video shown.
- 43:07SPEAKER_01: Um, this this came across my desk when I was scrolling Twitter and I saw one of like the main stories was um I think it was like Sabrina Carpenter puts out in quotes campy new music video.
- 43:24SPEAKER_01: I was like, okay, that's I'll check it out.
- 43:27SPEAKER_01: I won't be shy.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: And um I did, I did, it was like I feel like every Sabrina Carpenter video you've seen just maybe turned up to 11.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: Um, I was not familiar with the song Frior.
- 43:41SPEAKER_01: I thought it was a new song, so good to know that it was not a new song.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: Uh also, maybe I live in a rock, but I was not familiar with these other two girls as well.
- 43:49SPEAKER_01: I know the ones married to Jack Antonov.
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: Uh so assuming that's how she she got that gig with Taylor's uh connection with Sabrina.
- 43:57SPEAKER_01: But um I watched it once, I only watched it once Months hand up.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: And uh it's a good song, so I'll be listening to the song again, but arguably, you know, not as much of the music.
- 44:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: I won't I won't like turn it off if it just happens to find me.
- 44:13SPEAKER_00: Comes across out.
- 44:14SPEAKER_00: I haven't watched the full video yet, but I have seen several clips to the point where I think I've I've heard every note of the song through the clips, so I I could jump to some conclusions.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: First of all, audience, this is not safe for work stuff.
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: Do not put this one on at work.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: If I were to recommend a time to watch it, maybe just before bed, you know, that that'd be that'd be a decent time to pop it on.
- 44:36SPEAKER_00: Margaret Quali, though, bum.
- 44:37SPEAKER_00: Yes, she is married to Jack Ansoff.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: She's a very good actress, she's got some real acting chops.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: She's been in several good movies.
- 44:45SPEAKER_00: Her mom, I believe, is was a famous actress as well.
- 44:48SPEAKER_00: I'm blanking on her name, but I believe she is a bit of a Nepo baby, but her work does speak for itself.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: I just want to say, Margaret, and Madeline Klein is from Outer Banks.
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: That's where she gained fame, and she's been in some movies since then.
- 45:01SPEAKER_00: Knives Out, she appeared in in one of those sequels.
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: So both both relatively well-known actresses, nothing, nothing A-list or anything like that, but Margaret Qually in particular, you're well above this.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: And every week now I see her popping in a new music video.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: She's been in a couple of the Bleachers music videos with Jack just doing similar bits, if I would say, wearing some short skirts.
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: Margaret, you're better than this, but hey, sis, if you got it, flaunt it.
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: Do you?
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: I just don't think music videos should be where we spend most of our time for the rest of your career.
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: I think you got some real acting chops.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, echo your your sentiments, Sean.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: But um, listen, I saw it.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: Happy I'm I saw it, and now I'm moving on with my life.
- 45:45SPEAKER_00: Another did you see this question?
- 45:47SPEAKER_00: We touched on Coachella a second ago.
- 45:49SPEAKER_00: Sabrina Carpenter was one of the headlining acts.
- 45:52SPEAKER_00: Justin Bieber seems to be the main storyline from Coachella.
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: I guess my question is, did you see that this is happening?
- 45:59SPEAKER_00: And more importantly, would you ever attend a music festival?
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: No shot.
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: No shot.
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: I just I don't have that in me.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: It could be like just one day, it could be six hours.
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: Like, if um have to like shower in a makeshift setup, and it's just I'm not a camper.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: Like, I would like to do it once in my life.
- 46:25SPEAKER_01: I feel like that setup is you know camping at a concert.
- 46:30SPEAKER_01: But um the Bieber, I thought the Bieber thing was cool.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: I thought it was different.
- 46:35SPEAKER_01: I know there were some mixed reviews on it about the whole like let me just pull up YouTube and like someone yell out a song and I played.
- 46:42SPEAKER_01: I thought that was interesting.
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: Um the overall Coachella, I'm kind of out on the overall vibe.
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: I feel like it's just like the influencers, like Olympics, basically, where they just dress in crazy outfits and there's no real winner.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: You just go to go and post on social media, which is not my scene, not my vibe, but uh yeah, not not for me.
- 47:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we're in lockstep there.
- 47:09SPEAKER_00: I just couldn't be more out on the thought of everything surrounding a music festival.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: The only thing I would be there for would be the music, but festivals seem to be about so much else aside from the music.
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: It's all about pomp.
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: Like you said, it's a bunch of wiggle dickers, the the new influencer generation getting all dolled up.
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: It's about the outfits, it's about saying you were at Coachella, it's just not for me.
- 47:30SPEAKER_00: If you go and you love festivals, hey, by all means go right ahead.
- 47:33SPEAKER_00: I prefer to piss where I so choose and be able to wash my hands afterwards, and you're just not getting that experience in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of people.
- 47:44SPEAKER_00: So, not for me.
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: You did mention Bieber's performance was pretty good.
- 47:48SPEAKER_00: I agreed.
- 47:49SPEAKER_00: I from what I heard, it it seemed pretty cool.
- 47:51SPEAKER_00: He's very talented, dude.
- 47:52SPEAKER_00: Obviously, he can put asses in seats when he's locked in and doing things correctly, which he seems to be doing.
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: So good for Bieber.
- 48:02SPEAKER_00: It seems to have turned women our age into a tizzy back into their preteens with his performance.
- 48:07SPEAKER_00: I'm seeing lots of pictures from girls our age posting throwbacks to when they were preteens falling in love with Bieber after, you know, baby and the like came out.
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: So I guess good for Bieber to turn back time.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: I've always been a fan of his, like even going through you know, his peak was probably like my middle school years.
- 48:28SPEAKER_01: I always thought he had great songs.
- 48:30SPEAKER_01: I was kind of almost like a closet fan because it wasn't cool as a as a male to you know take in his music.
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: But um, no, he's good.
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: He's talented, and I like I said, I enjoyed his Coachella performance and you know his music in general.
- 48:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've aged where I'm very comfortable with my own skin now, but I was right there with you.
- 48:49SPEAKER_00: Back then, I probably used to shit on him a little bit.
- 48:51SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, Bernard's for girls, that sort of thing.
- 48:54SPEAKER_00: No, he's a talented guy, some catchy songs, great voice.
- 48:58SPEAKER_00: Definitely a believer nowadays.
- 49:01SPEAKER_00: Maybe the off-the-court stuff with Justin, maybe some of those antics.
- 49:05SPEAKER_00: I'm not a fan of those, but it seems like he might have grown up a bit since then.
- 49:09SPEAKER_00: So overall, you could put us down as fans of JP.
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's always going to be the off-the-field concerns, but if you throw on with you, like you don't think I'm gonna like start vibing, like you would be wrong.
- 49:25SPEAKER_00: And mistletoe around Christmas time?
- 49:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, what a what a tune.
- 49:30SPEAKER_00: So yeah, he's got he's got hits for days.
- 49:34SPEAKER_00: Let's get away from music for a second here because we're gonna we're gonna wrap up with one more music note.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: But I have to ask you, did you see this heist in Poland?
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: This was brought to my attention by Shane Douglas, so I have to give him credit there, but it was a Kit Kat heist.
- 49:48SPEAKER_00: Over 400,000 Kit Kats were stolen in transit from Italy to Poland.
- 49:54SPEAKER_00: I don't know if they were for the wild boars.
- 49:56SPEAKER_00: I don't know what's going on here.
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: I didn't know Kit Kats existed outside the United States, to be quite honest.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: No, I was one, not aware of the story, and two, very confused if you're going to be stealing candy.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: I feel like Kit Kats would be fairly low on my list of candy to steal.
- 50:16SPEAKER_01: Maybe they're a delicacy over there, you know, going from Italy to Poland, who knows?
- 50:23SPEAKER_01: But um, I mean, 400,000, that's like it's not a small amount of Kit Kat, Sean.
- 50:29SPEAKER_00: That's that's a lifetime supply, what one would say.
- 50:32SPEAKER_00: I think you could feed a village for life with that.
- 50:35SPEAKER_00: Also, yeah, I just don't know that I'm targeting a Kit Kat truck.
- 50:39SPEAKER_00: Like you said, it's not only not the best candy, it's just why are we stealing candy?
- 50:43SPEAKER_00: It's a relatively inexpensive item if you wanted to buy.
- 50:47SPEAKER_00: I think if we were gonna take over 400,000 of something, we could have done a bit better.
- 50:52SPEAKER_01: What uh candy would you steal, Sean?
- 50:55SPEAKER_00: 400,000 Reese's Christmas trees.
- 50:59SPEAKER_00: I would go Reese Cups.
- 51:01SPEAKER_00: See, I like the the ratio of peanut butter to chocolate in the shapes more than I do in the actual cups.
- 51:07SPEAKER_00: But listen, you can't go wrong when you're tasting that peanut butter.
- 51:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:11SPEAKER_00: Best candy by far.
- 51:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no wrong answers.
- 51:14SPEAKER_00: Final one, little treat here, not only for you, Bum, because I know you're gonna enjoy this, but the listeners as well.
- 51:21SPEAKER_00: This was announced on this podcast months ago.
- 51:24SPEAKER_00: I I'd been reading the tea leaves, some sneaking suspicions, but I said Gracie Abrams would be putting out a third album this year.
- 51:30SPEAKER_00: We there was nothing in the public eye that I was aware of, but it was just a feeling I had as a diehard Gracie fan.
- 51:38SPEAKER_00: Well, she's finally starting to tease it on her Instagram.
- 51:41SPEAKER_00: She's posting pictures, some cryptic messages.
- 51:43SPEAKER_00: She just posted a picture the other day with the number three.
- 51:46SPEAKER_00: It seemed to be a book with a witch on it, maybe a Halloween release.
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure when.
- 51:51SPEAKER_00: Let me just I'm just gonna go ahead and sign the petition.
- 51:54SPEAKER_00: I'm all in on whatever this work will be.
- 51:56SPEAKER_00: I wanted to get your thoughts, and did you see this?
- 51:59SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: So, first off, myself is on the Roussini and Vrabel beat, and now we have Shawnee Boyle on the Gracie Abrams beat predicting this months in advance, as you said.
- 52:09SPEAKER_01: Uh no.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: We are in those two areas bulletproof.
- 52:16unknown: No.
- 52:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:17SPEAKER_01: Um I did see this.
- 52:18SPEAKER_01: Uh, very excited as well.
- 52:20SPEAKER_01: Uh big fan of her and her music.
- 52:22SPEAKER_01: Um, I know you saw her you know at Red Rocks uh last year, Sean.
- 52:26SPEAKER_01: That was a great show as well.
- 52:27SPEAKER_01: Um, I watched the concert.
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: Uh she just has hits, hit after hit, no misses.
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: So I'm hoping we get uh no doubt side.
- 52:35SPEAKER_01: We won't, uh, but I'm sure we'll get a few good songs um on this album as well.
- 52:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, very excited about that.
- 52:41SPEAKER_00: I I did, I've seen her three times now because I did see her open for Taylor Swift at the Ares Tour before she really popped off, too.
- 52:48SPEAKER_00: So that was the Red Rocks concerts for my second and third time seeing her.
- 52:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, love Gracie.
- 52:53SPEAKER_00: Very excited.
- 52:54SPEAKER_00: We have a lot of good music on the way.
- 52:55SPEAKER_00: We've got Noah Khan coming out this week.
- 52:57SPEAKER_00: We've got Olivia Rodrigo this summer.
- 53:00SPEAKER_00: I'm sure there's going to be more announced soon.
- 53:02SPEAKER_00: I think we are going to get some Phoebe Bridgers.
- 53:04SPEAKER_00: I'm hoping Maggie Rogers puts something out.
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: Well, I know you're a subscriber to her newsletter.
- 53:08SPEAKER_00: We both, we both do re read those regularly, and she has teased that she's been in the studio recently.
- 53:14SPEAKER_00: So I think we might be seeing some Maggie soon, too.
- 53:18SPEAKER_01: She said that she's been writing music.
- 53:20SPEAKER_01: She's just not in a place yet to release it.
- 53:23SPEAKER_01: So whatever that means, hey, I'm not an artist, I can't relate, but that's hope.
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: She does a little 180 and let's get those uh those tracks out to the public, please.
- 53:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 53:32SPEAKER_00: Hey, give her we'll give you your space, Queen.
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: We know when you're ready, you're gonna give us nothing but hits.
- 53:36SPEAKER_00: So good stuff on the music front.
- 53:39SPEAKER_00: Blum, thank you very much for joining me.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: I enjoyed this episode.
- 53:42SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 53:43SPEAKER_01: I feel like we uh touch on a wide range of subjects.
- 53:46SPEAKER_01: So uh fun shown.
- 53:48SPEAKER_01: Thanks.
