  Have you seen those sitcoms where the busy protagonists bustle around and tell

  people to walk with them?

  I got reminded of this because I used to be one of those people before COVID.

  Okay, confession time. I used to have people walk with me if they needed time

  with me between meetings.
• 0:19
  They would accompany me right up to the conference door from my office door
• 0:23
  to get two words in and a request for follow-up.
• 0:27
  Do not get me wrong, I was busy.
• 0:30
  But most importantly, I was a busybody like Martha.
• 0:35
  And Jesus answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you're worried and troubled
• 0:41
  about many things, but one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part,
• 0:47
  which will not be taken away from her.
• 0:51
  Luke 10, verses 41 and 42 It took me a Bible study of having a Mary's Heart
• 0:59
  in Martha world by Joanne Weaver to realize what I was doing wrong.

  I was prioritizing busyness and accomplishment over love and compassion.

  Work needed to get done, and I was doing the best I could, filling my daily
• 1:15
  task list and going above and beyond. The results spoke for themselves.

  But what did people think when they needed my time and advice.
• 1:24
  Up until today, I would have said that I learned a lot from that Bible study
• 1:28
  and that I learned to prioritize God and people over results and accomplishments.
• 1:33
  But I would be wrong.
• 1:36
  This morning on my walk, I did it again. I told Jesus to walk with me. Yeah, gasp.
• 1:43
  The Holy Spirit nudged me to rephrase that and I said, sorry,
• 1:47
  Lord, may I walk with you?
• 1:51
  But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached him and said,
• 1:56
  Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone?
• 2:00
  Therefore tell her to help me.

  Luke 10.40 I was telling Jesus what to do just like Martha did.
• 2:10
  Please learn from my arrogance.
• 2:12
  What was wrong with me asking God to walk with? Well, let me tell you. I was being prideful.
• 2:19
  That statement shows that I am at the center of my world and not Jesus.
• 2:23
  I was being disobedient.
• 2:26
  I was leading Jesus instead of following. I was telling the author of the universe
• 2:32
  to do something instead of submitting to his will.
• 2:35
  And I was being unteachable. I think I know where to go and I'm demonstrating
• 2:40
  unwillingness to learn and be open.
• 2:43
  Thank God for the Holy Spirit and the gentle nudges. Maybe I will do better next time.

  Maybe I'll run up and catch up to him with my little feet. I know he will wait for me.

  Dear Jesus, Thank you for your patience and willingness to transform a sinner like me.

  Your love carries me through the good and the bad times.

  Grant me the goodness to heed to your teaching and execute for your instructions. Amen.
