Speaker 1: And now Move the Sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
• 0:07
Speaker 1: What's up, everybody? Welcome to Move the Sticks on a Monday, DJ.
• 0:10
Speaker 1: Bucky Rhett back with you as we go through some
• 0:12
Speaker 1: of the big games from this last week. A lot
• 0:15
Speaker 1: of storylines, a lot of things to get to.
• 0:17
  Speaker 2: Buck.
• 0:17
Speaker 1: It looks like your background right there, you're either at
• 0:20
Speaker 1: work or you're in some type of a holding situation there.
• 0:22
Speaker 1: What what do we got going on?
• 0:24
  Speaker 3: Oh, I'm going to work. I can't.
• 0:25
Speaker 4: I came into work, flew right off the plane, jump
• 0:29
Speaker 4: right in, decided to come in office and do the
• 0:31
Speaker 4: podcast kind of like on location.
• 0:33
Speaker 3: If I go a little differently, you.
• 0:34
Speaker 1: Know, nice Rett supporting team win or lose.
• 0:37
  Speaker 2: I like that.
• 0:38
Speaker 5: I appreciate it, baby every week. You know, we're not
• 0:41
Speaker 5: fair weather fans over here. Loyalty is a big deal.
• 0:44
Speaker 5: And yeah, I just wanted to make it clear this
• 0:46
Speaker 5: was this was not forty nine ers read Bucky. I
• 0:48
  Speaker 5: wouldn't do.
• 0:49
  Speaker 2: That to you.
• 0:50
  Speaker 3: Yeah you're talking.
• 0:51
Speaker 1: We'll get to that game. Yeah, we'll get to that
• 0:53
Speaker 1: game in a minute. We got we got definitely got
• 0:55
Speaker 1: a chance to get to that one. Let's let's get
• 0:56
Speaker 1: going because we had a lot of games to get
• 0:58
Speaker 1: to all. I'll start us off here with the game
• 1:00
Speaker 1: I was at, which ended up being I think the
• 1:01
Speaker 1: game of the day. The Chargers, as they always do,
• 1:04
Speaker 1: they play a thriller, comes down to the very end.
• 1:06
Speaker 1: They losing a walk off kick to the Lions forty
• 1:09
Speaker 1: one to thirty eight a game. The Lions were a
• 1:12
Speaker 1: track meet in the first half, run the ball, second half,
• 1:15
Speaker 1: they threw it all over the place. An impressive day
• 1:18
Speaker 1: from the Lions offense. The Chargers defense. Look, you're coming
• 1:21
Speaker 1: off games against Tyson Bagent and Zach Wilson and those offenses.
• 1:26
Speaker 1: The defense, you know, was a sack fest and it
• 1:28
Speaker 1: was impressive in this one. They didn't get a single sack.
• 1:30
Speaker 1: They could not get pressure on Jared Goff. It was
• 1:33
Speaker 1: one explosive after another. And a couple of takeaways from that,
• 1:37
Speaker 1: and we'll go around the horn on this game here,
• 1:39
Speaker 1: but number one the takeaway was you'll never regret investing
• 1:43
Speaker 1: in the offensive line. It's a really good offensive line,
• 1:47
Speaker 1: if not the best offensive line in the NFL with
• 1:49
Speaker 1: the Detroit Lions. And they can run right their right
• 1:51
Speaker 1: handed run team behind Piney Sewel, and then they all
• 1:54
Speaker 1: five are good in pass protection. Panae Seuele played really
• 1:57
Speaker 1: really well against Bosa in pass pro as well. Across
• 2:00
Speaker 1: the board, there's no weakness. We talk about tomato cans,
• 2:02
Speaker 1: Bucky and no tomato cans on this front. There's no
• 2:06
Speaker 1: there's no easy matchup, there's no easy win. They controlled
• 2:08
Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage defensively, I still think obviously by
• 2:11
Speaker 1: the points they gave up. I know they're ranked high,
• 2:13
Speaker 1: but Aiden Hudginson's a star. Ali McNeill's a really good player.
• 2:16
Speaker 1: They've got some other good players. This is not a
• 2:19
Speaker 1: defense to me that when you look at the NFC
• 2:21
Speaker 1: and you look at the Eagles, the Cowboys, the Niners,
• 2:23
Speaker 1: once you get into the tournament, I think that'll that'll
• 2:25
Speaker 1: probably slow them down and hurt them at that point
• 2:28
Speaker 1: in time. But offensively, especially upfront in the trench, is
• 2:32
Speaker 1: really really good football team.
• 2:34
Speaker 4: I mean, LOOKDJ, you talked about investing in the offensive line.
• 2:37
Speaker 4: They've done a really good job of that. And I
• 2:40
Speaker 4: love it when the team really takes on the personality
• 2:42
Speaker 4: of their coach. So you see Dan Campbell, high octane,
• 2:45
Speaker 4: a lot of energy, a lot of rough and tumbled,
• 2:47
Speaker 4: old school tough guy stuff, and this team plays like that.
• 2:50
Speaker 4: And look, he's a tight end by trade, so it's
• 2:53
Speaker 4: not a coincidence that the offensive line is something that
• 2:55
Speaker 4: he's really invested in. Their offense is their best defense
• 2:59
Speaker 4: and the way that they are able to in a
• 3:02
Speaker 4: diverse approach. Using a diverse approach, they can run it,
• 3:05
Speaker 4: they can throw it, they can control the game, and
• 3:07
Speaker 4: so that defense that you worry about, if they get
• 3:11
Speaker 4: the game on their terms, they can make it very,
• 3:13
Speaker 4: very difficult for anybody to play with them.
• 3:15
Speaker 3: And that's what you saw. You saw the running game.
• 3:18
Speaker 4: David Montgomery shows up and decides that he wants to
• 3:20
Speaker 4: be Barry Sanders two point zero.
• 3:21
Speaker 1: As I know, he had seventy five yards in him.
• 3:25
Speaker 3: I know you heard that in it, Jimmy Gibbs.
• 3:28
Speaker 4: You got Aman Rossaint Brown catching balls all over the place.
• 3:32
Speaker 3: I mean, this team is really good.
• 3:34
Speaker 4: And you know, say what you will about Jerry Goff
• 3:37
Speaker 4: in this offense for this team, he is the perfect
• 3:40
Speaker 4: franchise quarterback that just kind of plays that pass first
• 3:42
Speaker 4: point guard role for this this squad.
• 3:45
Speaker 5: I thought this this game from a game management perspective,
• 3:48
Speaker 5: was kind of interesting. I mean, these two teams were
• 3:50
Speaker 5: a combined seven for eight on the fourth downs, right,
• 3:55
Speaker 5: and none perhaps more glaring than Dan Campbell's decision at
• 3:59
Speaker 5: the certainly could have kicked the field goal with what
• 4:02
Speaker 5: about a minute twenty to go and decides to you know,
• 4:05
Speaker 5: to just end it and run the clock out, gets
• 4:08
Speaker 5: that big conversion. He was Laporta on the catch, right,
• 4:10
Speaker 5: and then they end up, you know, kicking the field
• 4:12
Speaker 5: goal with no time left. It felt like it felt
• 4:16
Speaker 5: like a Brandon Staley way to try to win the
• 4:18
Speaker 5: football game. And I love that that Dan Campbell, you know,
• 4:22
Speaker 5: loves that has that confidence in his team and showed
• 4:24
Speaker 5: it a number of times and actually went for it
• 4:26
Speaker 5: more than Brandon Staley did in this game five times,
• 4:29
Speaker 5: converted four of them and none bigger than the end.
• 4:31
Speaker 5: So I just you know, again, you talk about taking
• 4:34
Speaker 5: over the mentality of a team and having the confidence
• 4:37
Speaker 5: and the compete level to go out there and perform,
• 4:40
Speaker 5: you know, in those high stress, high pressure environments like
• 4:43
Speaker 5: they had in that game where you know it was
• 4:45
Speaker 5: going back and forth right in the second half, and
• 4:47
Speaker 5: so those key plays, you know, those fourth downs were
• 4:50
Speaker 5: massive and that they were able to convert, especially on
• 4:52
Speaker 5: that last one when that could have backfired. Was was
• 4:55
Speaker 5: a big deal, and I thought just kind of a
• 4:58
Speaker 5: symbolic moment for that Lions team, understanding where they are,
• 5:02
Speaker 5: how good they can be, and that their coach believes
• 5:04
Speaker 5: in them that way to go and get that done.
• 5:06
Speaker 1: Yeah, and that last one, why do you do that?
• 5:08
Speaker 1: With a minute twenty The Chargers last five possessions five
• 5:11
Speaker 1: touchdowns exactly, So I mean, he knew where that was headed.
• 5:15
Speaker 1: If he gave the ball back, he wasn't going to
• 5:17
Speaker 1: do that, so it was aggressive. Now, this is one
• 5:19
Speaker 1: of the things I love about when we're doing what
• 5:21
Speaker 1: we're doing because you get a chance to watch tape,
• 5:23
Speaker 1: we have our conversations, and then we have the resources
• 5:26
Speaker 1: because of who we're affiliated with with the league to
• 5:28
Speaker 1: be able to pull up some numbers. So I reached
• 5:31
Speaker 1: out to a couple of our buddies. Bill Smith helped
• 5:33
Speaker 1: me out with the project, and then Jack Andraid helped
• 5:35
Speaker 1: me out with another one. But on this one, I'm
• 5:37
Speaker 1: watching this game and it wasn't it was in the
• 5:39
Speaker 1: preparation for this game as well as I feel like
• 5:41
Speaker 1: watching football on a weekly basis, I just feel like, man,
• 5:44
Speaker 1: you know, the best matchup right now was when you
• 5:46
Speaker 1: can get in three by one or just getting a
• 5:48
Speaker 1: three receiver set to the same side, and that number
• 5:50
Speaker 1: three receiver, how many times do you see that guy
• 5:53
Speaker 1: get matched up with linebackers and.
• 5:54
  Speaker 2: It doesn't matter.
• 5:55
Speaker 1: It could be a wide out, it could be a
• 5:57
Speaker 1: tight end and it flexed out, it could be a
• 5:59
Speaker 1: back that you put down there. But I was like, man,
• 6:01
Speaker 1: it seems like that's just stealing. So I said, can
• 6:03
Speaker 1: we pull the numbers of when you target the number
• 6:06
Speaker 1: three receiver and see what that looks like? And so
• 6:09
Speaker 1: here's what it is, guys. I thought this was pretty interesting.
• 6:12
Speaker 1: So when you're in trips here targeting that number three receiver,
• 6:17
Speaker 1: the completion percentage is seventy five point one percent. Seventy
• 6:22
Speaker 1: five point one percent. All other all other passes in
• 6:26
Speaker 1: the league sixty seven point one percent. So I mean
• 6:28
  Speaker 1: it's a high it's a high level, right, but still
• 6:31
Speaker 1: that's a significant difference. Now the air yards are down
• 6:33
Speaker 1: a little bit, down to five point nine yards, which
• 6:36
Speaker 1: isn't a huge number. But the here's the other one,
• 6:40
Speaker 1: the success rate open target rate. Right, So open target rate,
• 6:45
Speaker 1: just open target rate, I should say, fifty four point
• 6:48
Speaker 1: one percent on all the other throws, it's forty six
• 6:50
Speaker 1: point seven percent. So like guys, A guys are getting
• 6:54
Speaker 1: open and they're easy layup completions. They just you're stealing
• 6:58
Speaker 1: and buck. You can speak to this as so somebody
• 7:00
Speaker 1: who's a play caller on your high school team.
• 7:02
  Speaker 2: I mean, you'll see it.
• 7:03
Speaker 1: I know you guys don't throw the ball out, but
• 7:04
Speaker 1: you're playing against teams that are throwing it, and you
• 7:07
Speaker 1: see it from someone who's played on the offensive side
• 7:09
Speaker 1: the defensive side. I just remember seeing it with the
• 7:11
Speaker 1: Chiefs forever. I saw Tyreek Hill on that number three
• 7:13
Speaker 1: spot wearing out linebackers and Cover three and just wearing
• 7:17
Speaker 1: them out on those deep over routes. Like it just
• 7:19
Speaker 1: seems like, man, that is a hidden gem when you're
• 7:21
  Speaker 1: designing offense.
• 7:22
Speaker 4: Well, it's the hardest formation to deal with because what
• 7:26
Speaker 4: it does is it makes you, from a defensive standpoint
• 7:28
Speaker 4: declare if you're in zone, it's easy to tell because
• 7:31
Speaker 4: you can tell that the linebacker is over top of
• 7:32
Speaker 4: number three. If you're a man to man, you look
• 7:34
Speaker 4: over there, you're like, hey, there's a little dude over
• 7:36
Speaker 4: there and the slot and you can run right at him.
• 7:38
Speaker 4: And so it gives you an opportunity to make the
• 7:41
Speaker 4: game very easy for the quarterback. It's also a high
• 7:44
Speaker 4: comcretion completion percentage throw because it's the shortest throw, it's
• 7:47
Speaker 4: right in the middle, it's right there.
• 7:48
Speaker 3: It's easy for the quarterback to do.
• 7:50
Speaker 4: And if you add like RPO layers where the the
• 7:53
Speaker 4: back comes in front of the quarterback and you make
• 7:55
Speaker 4: that guy kind of make a decision where he steps
• 7:58
Speaker 4: to be a part of the run defense or he
• 8:00
Speaker 4: says back, it just makes it very very easy. What
• 8:03
Speaker 4: you're seeing in today's game, it's all matchup driven. These
• 8:08
Speaker 4: play callers offensively now are just creating and dictating matchups
• 8:12
Speaker 4: and they're making it very very simple for the quarterback.
• 8:15
Speaker 4: That's why you're seeing so many teams have so much
• 8:17
Speaker 4: success going to the number three in the slot.
• 8:20
Speaker 1: How about this, I'll add this other number. So, how
• 8:22
Speaker 1: about when you're seeing man coverage, Because you talked about
• 8:24
Speaker 1: you're gonna it's gonna be a coverage indicator. What are
• 8:26
Speaker 1: you getting right against man coverage? The open target rate
• 8:30
Speaker 1: targeting number three thirty seven point nine percent, everybody else
• 8:33
Speaker 1: twenty nine point six percent. So, in other words, if
• 8:36
Speaker 1: you're seeing man coverage, across the board. That's where your
• 8:39
Speaker 1: eyes go. That's the best matchup, that's where you're going
• 8:42
Speaker 1: to have the most success.
• 8:43
Speaker 5: Love it, uh man. I think that's that's really important.
• 8:47
Speaker 5: I think to kind of understand as you're trying to
• 8:49
Speaker 5: assess what teams are doing in terms of passing concepts
• 8:52
Speaker 5: and how they're trying to attack defenses. I think that
• 8:56
Speaker 5: that's telling. And then you start to look at some
• 8:58
Speaker 5: of the body types of the players that are in
• 9:00
Speaker 5: they are running those number three routes, and they can
• 9:01
Speaker 5: be those dudes with the with the real speed to
• 9:04
Speaker 5: cause those mismatches right, the suddenness to create separation, and
• 9:07
Speaker 5: a man versus and a man coverage type of situation.
• 9:11
  Speaker 1: You're getting a safety A lot of times you're gonna
• 9:13
Speaker 1: be able to get the safety, and you got the
• 9:15
Speaker 1: safety a depth, So you gotta see it like I
• 9:17
Speaker 1: see it when like a Loie Gilman was put in
• 9:19
Speaker 1: a bind in this game against the Lions a couple
• 9:21
Speaker 1: times where he's got Amara Saint Brown in that spot,
• 9:24
Speaker 1: he's twelve yards off buck, He's got a three way
• 9:27
Speaker 1: go like he can he can take me anywhere he
• 9:29
Speaker 1: wants to go, and that's impossible.
• 9:31
Speaker 2: It's impossible to cover that.
• 9:33
Speaker 4: It is, and you talked about the part of it.
• 9:34
Speaker 4: You talked about a three way go. DB's to talk
• 9:37
Speaker 4: about a two way go, like he can go in
• 9:39
Speaker 4: and out. You don't really have the ability to play
• 9:41
Speaker 4: with leverage because depending on if you have a what
• 9:43
Speaker 4: they call a whole defender, meaning a linebacker sitting in
• 9:46
Speaker 4: the hold at about eight to ten.
• 9:47
Speaker 3: Yards, you may not have help on the short underneath pattern.
• 9:50
Speaker 4: So now you leaning heavy inside and you have a
• 9:53
Speaker 4: guy who has will go like a momro Saint Brown,
• 9:55
Speaker 4: they kind of stick and nod you inside, didn't break out.
• 9:58
Speaker 4: You don't have enough speed to be able to get outside.
• 10:01
Speaker 4: And the other thing that you have is that number
• 10:04
Speaker 4: three guy has the ability to the motion. He can go
• 10:07
Speaker 4: in and out and across, and so you can get
• 10:09
Speaker 4: them on the move. And there's so many different things
• 10:11
Speaker 4: that you can do with bunch routes to make it
• 10:13
Speaker 4: very difficult to get your hands on them. Yeah, the
• 10:16
Speaker 4: smartest coaches should put their best receivers there, and they're red.
• 10:20
Speaker 4: You talked about the size guy where we're seeing the
• 10:22
Speaker 4: little guys, but for the longest time, Sean Payton would
• 10:25
Speaker 4: put the big receiver Holston, the Michael Thomas. He would
• 10:29
Speaker 4: put those guys there and they're quicker than your linebackers,
• 10:33
Speaker 4: but more physical than your little nickels. And once again,
• 10:36
Speaker 4: it's another way for them to really exploit a matchup
• 10:39
Speaker 4: over the middle of the field.
• 10:40
Speaker 5: And then what happens on the backside is you find
• 10:42
Speaker 5: yourself in one on one opportunities too on the single
• 10:45
Speaker 5: receiver side, which you saw with the red around right
• 10:48
Speaker 5: in the red zone that.
• 10:49
Speaker 1: Specific everybody's doing. That red zone is three by one
• 10:53
Speaker 1: and they're working the one on one on the backside.
• 10:55
Speaker 5: There you go. There you go really hard, good project.
• 10:58
Speaker 4: It's hard being a dB. It's just so all the advantages,
• 11:02
Speaker 4: all the advantages, it's hard. And if you were a
• 11:04
Speaker 4: play call, do you talk about that? You take your
• 11:06
Speaker 4: two best players and put number one on the backside
• 11:09
Speaker 4: and number three on the front side.
• 11:10
Speaker 3: How do you handle that?
• 11:11
Speaker 4: Because you can't double everybody, so how do you? So
• 11:14
Speaker 4: it really creates a lot of problems for defensive play
• 11:17
Speaker 4: calls as they're trying to figure out how to match
• 11:19
Speaker 4: up with what the offense is presenting.
• 11:21
Speaker 1: I know, I know, I went along on that game,
• 11:22
Speaker 1: but that was just something That was fascinating to me
• 11:25
Speaker 1: when you see something specifically and you can kind of
• 11:27
Speaker 1: widen it out and say, okay, there's something here, man
• 11:29
Speaker 1: like this. Smart teams are doing this. Smart teams are
• 11:32
Speaker 1: doing something, so maybe we ought to pay attention to it. Buck,
• 11:35
Speaker 1: you had a game. It ended up being a blowout,
• 11:37
Speaker 1: but it was a big matchup. It was highly anticipated,
• 11:40
Speaker 1: but not the outcome.
• 11:41
Speaker 3: We all thought, yeah, yeah, highly anticipated.
• 11:43
Speaker 4: But much like you, this sent me on a research
• 11:46
Speaker 4: project as well, because you know, one thing, it's so
• 11:50
Speaker 4: funny how much people tell you and the press is
• 11:52
Speaker 4: leading up to the game about what's going to happen.
• 11:55
Speaker 3: And so day Sung goes to the forty nine ers.
• 11:58
Speaker 4: There's all this heat on Steve Wilks about the defense coordinated.
• 12:02
Speaker 4: We got to get the defense right. Doug Peterson talking
• 12:04
Speaker 4: about how static they are. Well, you know what happens
• 12:07
Speaker 4: when you have a bye week and you get a
• 12:08
Speaker 4: couple of new toys like Chase Young and Randy Gregory.
• 12:11
Speaker 4: You decide that you're gonna do something that you've never done.
• 12:13
Speaker 4: So the first player of the game, I'm sitting on
• 12:15
Speaker 4: the sideline and they have five d linemen on the field,
• 12:18
Speaker 4: and if You can imagine this DJ, because you've seen
• 12:20
Speaker 4: Chase Young and Nick Bosa. Imagine those two guys standing
• 12:25
Speaker 4: up on the edges. And then you have Eric Armstead inside,
• 12:28
Speaker 4: Javon Hargrave inside, you have Randy Gregory rotating in, and
• 12:32
Speaker 4: they decided that, you know what we're gonna do with guys.
• 12:34
Speaker 4: We're gonna be a five man front today, and we're
• 12:36
Speaker 4: going to make sure that you can't double team our guys.
• 12:39
Speaker 4: And we're not only gonna put that bear front out there.
• 12:42
Speaker 4: We're gonna let Nick Bosa and Chase Young decide. Sometimes
• 12:45
Speaker 4: you line up outside. Sometimes you guys just stand up in.
• 12:47
Speaker 3: The A gaps. Just stand in the A gaps and
• 12:49
Speaker 3: move around and do all this.
• 12:51
Speaker 4: And so the first three drives, I think Trevor Lawrence
• 12:55
Speaker 4: saw thirteen people on the field because DJ before he
• 12:57
Speaker 4: could even get to the top of the drop, he's
• 12:59
Speaker 4: moving and whatever, and the ghosts are coming. And the
• 13:03
Speaker 4: other thing I learned about, and this is really important
• 13:06
Speaker 4: when we talk about like the draft process, environment matters.
• 13:10
Speaker 4: Talking to Chase Young after the game, oh, He's like, Oh,
• 13:14
Speaker 4: that's a completely different vibe when you go to San Francisco.
• 13:16
Speaker 4: Like the expectations, the levels or whatever, because DJ, guess
• 13:19
Speaker 4: what I saw Chase Young running to the ball. I
• 13:21
Speaker 4: saw him playing with a lot of energy. I saw
• 13:23
Speaker 4: him doing all the things that you saw him.
• 13:25
Speaker 2: Doing at Ohio State.
• 13:26
Speaker 4: And I was like, huh, I wonder maybe because his
• 13:28
Speaker 4: teammate Nick Bost is there and can tell him, hey, man,
• 13:31
Speaker 4: knock it off, or guaranty is POSI, Hey, you need
• 13:37
Speaker 4: to get your butt to the ball. And all of
• 13:39
Speaker 4: a sudden, the Chase Young that was off defensive Rookie
• 13:43
Speaker 4: of the Year, that's the guy that shows up, and
• 13:46
Speaker 4: that's the guy that makes the forty nine is defense
• 13:48
Speaker 4: really really scared because the Jaguars couldn't block him at
• 13:51
  Speaker 4: a point of a time.
• 13:52
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's interesting to me.
• 13:54
Speaker 1: And then you know, coming out of this game, Buck
• 13:57
Speaker 1: one of the one of the storylines was, oh, I
• 13:59
Speaker 1: guess brock Per he's fixed. So I'm like, well, let
• 14:01
Speaker 1: me go watch this because they're coming off of a
• 14:02
Speaker 1: couple of games have been a little disappointing. They start
• 14:05
Speaker 1: off in this game and they hit, they get a
• 14:07
Speaker 1: shallow early just nice easy completions.
• 14:10
Speaker 2: It was just like the classic, just kind of getting yellow.
• 14:12
Speaker 3: Was that the shallow the Christian McCaffrey who's lined up
• 14:14
Speaker 3: at X wide receiver.
• 14:17
Speaker 4: Yeah, all the way across, all the.
• 14:21
Speaker 2: Way across the field. Uh. And so they hit that early.
• 14:24
Speaker 1: He makes an unbelievable throw across body throw touchdown which
• 14:28
Speaker 1: I didn't think had a chance to get there. Somehow
• 14:30
Speaker 1: it got there. That was a kind of a confidence
• 14:32
Speaker 1: builder as well. Then they hit a you know, they
• 14:34
Speaker 1: hit they beat Lloyd on a wheel with uh with
• 14:38
Speaker 1: the tight end later.
• 14:39
Speaker 2: On in the game.
• 14:40
Speaker 1: So it was it was a nice job of scheme
• 14:41
Speaker 1: and some things I thought, really more than anything else,
• 14:43
Speaker 1: it was just get him in a rhythm, get him
• 14:44
Speaker 1: in a rhythm early. They didn't need him to throw
• 14:46
Speaker 1: it fifty times by any stretch, but they got him going.
• 14:49
Speaker 1: And then the other thing I would say is you
• 14:52
  Speaker 1: tell me because I don't. I don't study the Jags
• 14:55
Speaker 1: every week on defense. But man Iyuk on Tyson Campbell,
• 14:59
Speaker 1: they liked that one. They sure liked going at that
• 15:01
Speaker 1: one because he got him several times in that game.
• 15:06
  Speaker 3: Here's what I would say.
• 15:09
Speaker 4: The Niners, We've talked about it for years, the positionless
• 15:12
Speaker 4: football DJ to watch it play out on turf. It
• 15:15
Speaker 4: was the one opportunity that I've had to really watch
• 15:18
Speaker 4: them and what they did. They are a nightmare as
• 15:20
Speaker 4: a defensive play caller to figure out how to match
• 15:22
Speaker 4: up with. Like I'm joking about Christian McCaffrey lining up
• 15:25
Speaker 4: at x DJ, there was one time where Christian McCaffrey's
• 15:28
Speaker 4: at X and Kyle yuchek is basically the z Deebo
• 15:32
Speaker 4: Samuels in the slot killed on somebody's in the backfield.
• 15:35
Speaker 4: And so if you're a man demand, how do you
• 15:37
Speaker 4: align to all of the moving parts And they change
• 15:41
Speaker 4: their formations and what they're doing without changing the personnel groupings,
• 15:46
Speaker 4: So you can't hide the vulnerable player that you have
• 15:49
Speaker 4: in man. If you play zone, they mess.
• 15:52
Speaker 3: Up all your rules.
• 15:53
Speaker 4: It can be the most confusing and confounding offense that
• 15:57
Speaker 4: you can match up with. If they're healthy going into
• 16:00
Speaker 4: the playoffs, good luck to a defensive coordinator trying to
• 16:02
Speaker 4: come over a plan to deal with them.
• 16:03
Speaker 1: Let me ask you this, if you're playing, if you're
• 16:05
Speaker 1: getting ready to play them because of that, and rep
• 16:06
Speaker 1: jump in on this on the back end, But I mean,
• 16:09
Speaker 1: this is this an offense?
• 16:10
  Speaker 3: Now?
• 16:10
Speaker 1: I remember Belichick used to not put numbers on scout
• 16:12
Speaker 1: team against certain teams.
• 16:14
  Speaker 2: I don't care.
• 16:14
  Speaker 1: I don't care if that's McCaffrey, if that's Deebo Sama's
• 16:17
Speaker 1: Brandon Ayuk. We're just gonna where you line up is
• 16:19
Speaker 1: the position. We're gonna treat you as like that. Numbers
• 16:21
  Speaker 1: are irrelevant.
• 16:22
Speaker 4: But you have to have the personnel on defense to
• 16:24
Speaker 4: be able to do that, because you can get caught
• 16:26
Speaker 4: in a bad matchup with like your dB is maybe
• 16:29
Speaker 4: eating up by Christian McCaffrey and then you got Deebo
• 16:32
Speaker 4: Samuel on Devin Lloyd or for Yea Luakan. It just
• 16:35
Speaker 4: makes it very hard to do. And not only do
• 16:39
Speaker 4: they put you in those spots early, they didn't motion
• 16:42
Speaker 4: and shift, so now you got to check in a line,
• 16:44
Speaker 4: so they really put you by the mind. What you
• 16:46
Speaker 4: saw was Kyle Shanahan given ten, eleven, twelve days to
• 16:50
Speaker 4: kind of get in the lab and play around with
• 16:52
Speaker 4: all the toys in the toy box. It can be
• 16:54
Speaker 4: really really confusing for the four opponents going forward.
• 16:58
Speaker 5: Well, I'm just listening to a couple of things and
• 17:00
Speaker 5: they keep keep coming back, coming back to the same
• 17:03
Speaker 5: conclusion or the question I should say you mentioned, Uh,
• 17:07
Speaker 5: you know irrelevance. You mentioned playing around with toys. Where's
• 17:12
Speaker 5: Calvin Ridley gone in the Jaguars offense? Three targets after
• 17:17
Speaker 5: you know that week one, You're like, holy smokes, here
• 17:20
Speaker 5: he is the guy we've been talking about all off season.
• 17:22
Speaker 5: Is the steal of the off season is going to
• 17:24
Speaker 5: be you know, have this breakout campaign and you know
• 17:28
Speaker 5: he's targeted three times, catches two balls where Christian Kirk's
• 17:30
Speaker 5: getting you know, eleven different looks. And that's fine. You
• 17:33
Speaker 5: pay Christian Kirk a lot of money. He's a really
• 17:35
Speaker 5: good receiver. I understand that part. I fell into the
• 17:37
Speaker 5: trap of like of you know, buying into the hype
• 17:40
Speaker 5: on Ridley and it just.
• 17:41
Speaker 1: Oh, Bucky ruined my fantasy team. I fired Bucky as
• 17:44
Speaker 1: my fantasy advisor. He was my he was my.
• 17:46
Speaker 2: Official advisor for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
• 17:49
Speaker 1: I drafted Tank Bigsby and I drafted Calvin Ridley. My
• 17:52
Speaker 1: team stinks. I'm not taking any ownership. I'm blaming it
• 17:55
Speaker 1: all on Buck. I'm just throwing it all on Buck
• 17:57
  Speaker 1: with two things.
• 17:58
Speaker 3: Tank Bigsby right now just has a black cloud over said.
• 18:00
Speaker 4: Every time the ball is in his direction, he either
• 18:02
Speaker 4: tips it its intercepted almost or whatever.
• 18:05
  Speaker 3: It's bad.
• 18:06
Speaker 4: The thing about Kevin really, and this is funny because
• 18:08
Speaker 4: the first couple games of the year, they really tried
• 18:10
Speaker 4: to force feed Calvin Ridley. But what it did, it
• 18:12
Speaker 4: ruined the flow of the offense. I thought, what was interesting.
• 18:16
Speaker 4: We can talk about this later on when we talked
• 18:17
Speaker 4: about Trevor Lawrence, because ultimately he's going to have a
• 18:20
  Speaker 4: big payday.
• 18:21
Speaker 3: Nick Bosa Before the game.
• 18:22
Speaker 4: Three days before the game, Nick Bosa was asked about
• 18:24
Speaker 4: Trevor Lawrence and defending Trevor Lawrence. He was like, well,
• 18:27
Speaker 4: stop the running game, stopped the RPOs and screens and
• 18:30
Speaker 4: make him play quarterback. I thought there was a damning
• 18:34
Speaker 4: indictment on what somebody yelse sees from the quarterback, and
• 18:38
Speaker 4: so coming into the game, I was like, okay, well,
• 18:40
Speaker 4: let's see. They stopped the screens, it didn't let them
• 18:43
Speaker 4: do RPOs, and he had a really tough time finding
• 18:46
Speaker 4: his guys. And maybe it was just like a bad
• 18:48
Speaker 4: game from number sixteen. But it's something that you have
• 18:51
Speaker 4: to think about because as much as so many of
• 18:54
Speaker 4: us love him, there are some things in his game
• 18:57
Speaker 4: that he has to work through.
• 18:57
Speaker 3: If he wants to go to that next level.
• 19:00
Speaker 1: Their point, he's caught some heat. I meant, we can
• 19:04
Speaker 1: we can get moving to the next game. But look,
• 19:06
Speaker 1: it's is not that whole draft class when you look
• 19:09
Speaker 1: at it, I mean, it has not been good. Uh,
• 19:12
Speaker 1: all these guys he has been he has been hell
• 19:15
Speaker 1: heralded as the you know, the city on the hill there,
• 19:19
Speaker 1: the shining star, the beacon of a draft class that's
• 19:22
Speaker 1: been terrible. And now because it's like there's no we
• 19:25
Speaker 1: have there's no more arrows you can sling at at
• 19:28
Speaker 1: Justin Fields and Trey Lance, Zach Wilson, obviously Mac Jones,
• 19:32
Speaker 1: I mean like that, that's all, that's all been done.
• 19:35
Speaker 1: And now it's like, Okay, Trevor's kind of the last
• 19:37
Speaker 1: man standing, and now everybody's going away, and we've been
• 19:39
Speaker 1: looking at all this other stuff, like is this guy
• 19:41
Speaker 1: who we thought he was like that that conversation fair
• 19:44
Speaker 1: or not? Buck, that's that's started. That conversation absolutely has
• 19:48
  Speaker 1: started started.
• 19:49
Speaker 3: And to me, it was telling that someone would go
• 19:52
  Speaker 3: on record.
• 19:53
Speaker 4: Two people went on record, Nick Bosa and Kyle Shanahan,
• 19:56
Speaker 4: Cayle Shanison. He kind of looks like the same guy
• 19:59
Speaker 4: we saw two years ago as a rookie, I was like,
• 20:01
  Speaker 4: uh wow.
• 20:02
Speaker 1: Like yeah, well I remember, remember well, you remember you
• 20:06
Speaker 1: remember the reports, whether they were accurate or not. Was
• 20:09
Speaker 1: that that Shanahan liked U Zach? No, it was it
• 20:15
Speaker 1: was Zach Wilson was the was the top quarterback. And
• 20:19
Speaker 1: then they like Mac. You know, he like Mac is
• 20:21
Speaker 1: the next one. He might get a chance to coach Mac.
• 20:24
Speaker 3: There all of them.
• 20:28
Speaker 5: Can I just say something as transition to the next game,
• 20:32
Speaker 5: I'm just so thankful that now that we are not
• 20:36
Speaker 5: at the phase of this program where I still have
• 20:38
Speaker 5: to grade Mac Jones every week, and then I have
• 20:40
  Speaker 5: transition being.
• 20:42
Speaker 1: The you pick the right year for that one. Davis Mills,
• 20:48
Speaker 1: Rhett was good for Mac Jones and Davis Mills every week.
• 20:52
Speaker 5: I'm happy to throw out grades now on the current
• 20:55
Speaker 5: Houston Texans quarterback man. Oh is just I mean, it
• 20:59
Speaker 5: is so much fun to watch each and I mean
• 21:01
Speaker 5: it's the first game that I watch every every Monday
• 21:04
Speaker 5: without I mean, like whether we're talking about it or not,
• 21:06
Speaker 5: just because what CJ. Stroud is doing is incredible. Now, look,
• 21:09
Speaker 5: here's the other thing that I think helps him in
• 21:11
Speaker 5: a game like this against Cincinnati, is Devin Singletary went
• 21:14
Speaker 5: off and they ran the football better than they have
• 21:17
Speaker 5: all season long. So that's one thing. Here's the other thing.
• 21:21
Speaker 5: You know, we talk about all that he has done well.
• 21:24
Speaker 5: He is leading the He is not just like checking
• 21:27
Speaker 5: the ball down and letting his playmakers go at it.
• 21:29
Speaker 5: He is throwing the football down the field. The yards
• 21:31
Speaker 5: per attempt are up over ten. He's thrown for more
• 21:34
Speaker 5: first downs in the league than anybody, all while leading
• 21:37
Speaker 5: the league in the fewest interceptions with just two. That's
• 21:40
Speaker 5: stuff you just don't see from rookie quarterbacks. I mean,
• 21:43
Speaker 5: just a couple of things that stood out. I mean,
• 21:45
Speaker 5: like he's got the ability to layer those deep dig
• 21:47
Speaker 5: routes I mean over the linebacker and thread it right
• 21:50
Speaker 5: into was one early in the game of Dalton Schultz
• 21:52
Speaker 5: was beautiful. It's like good pace on it, but an
• 21:54
Speaker 5: element of touch too, right. And then when he really
• 21:57
Speaker 5: needs to rev up the RPMs man, he can do
• 21:59
Speaker 5: that with the best of them. I mean, like how
• 22:02
Speaker 5: many how about the amount of play action and bootlegs
• 22:05
Speaker 5: he ran in this game that Bobby slowk was drawn up.
• 22:08
Speaker 5: I mean, obviously it helps when the when the you know,
• 22:10
Speaker 5: the rushing attack is working as good as it was.
• 22:14
Speaker 5: The mobility he sees open grass in front of him,
• 22:17
Speaker 5: I mean, and shows really good foot quickness to get
• 22:19
Speaker 5: out of the pocket and then run for a ten
• 22:21
Speaker 5: yard touchdown. Look his interception, you know it was play action.
• 22:26
Speaker 5: He turns around, he's got a rusher in his face.
• 22:28
Speaker 5: He got sped up a little bit and then just
• 22:30
Speaker 5: didn't you know, didn't see the whole picture and missed
• 22:33
Speaker 5: cam trailer cam Taylor Britt trailing on a on a
• 22:35
Speaker 5: deep over route. But the play action here in this
• 22:38
Speaker 5: one I think really stood out to me. He's nine
• 22:40
Speaker 5: to fourteen hundred and sixty nine yards in a touchdown,
• 22:42
Speaker 5: most productivity on play action of any quarterback this week.
• 22:45
Speaker 5: So he's got that working. And man, I'm just telling you, like,
• 22:51
Speaker 5: it's bombs away in that offense, and that is so
• 22:54
Speaker 5: much fun. I think you got to give a lot
• 22:56
Speaker 5: of credit to slowk too, and for bringing out the
• 22:58
Speaker 5: best in CJ. He was obviously a really talented guy.
• 23:01
Speaker 1: He's been awesome man, and Buck knows him better than
• 23:04
Speaker 1: any of us, just from the time he's spent around
• 23:06
Speaker 1: him as a high schooler. I saw an interview the
• 23:08
Speaker 1: other day because we nailed it on the play. It's
• 23:11
Speaker 1: been he's legitimately, you know, in the in the very
• 23:15
Speaker 1: very very very small circle of people competing for the MVP.
• 23:18
Speaker 1: Like he's in the very tight circle there. It's been
• 23:21
Speaker 1: that good. It's been, you know, as good as rookie
• 23:23
Speaker 1: quarterback as I've seen all that stuff. The play is excellent.
• 23:26
Speaker 1: I saw an interview of the day with him though,
• 23:27
Speaker 1: that caught my eye when I was talking to him
• 23:29
Speaker 1: about you know, look the S two Test and all that,
• 23:33
Speaker 1: all all that conversation that came out, and they asked him,
• 23:37
Speaker 1: what would you look for in a quarterback if you
• 23:38
  Speaker 1: were evaluating quarterbacks?
• 23:40
Speaker 2: Yes? Did you see that? So I don't know.
• 23:42
Speaker 1: Like so the one thing he's like, look, I'd want
• 23:44
Speaker 1: to sit in the room with him and watch tape
• 23:45
Speaker 1: see how much he understands football.
• 23:47
Speaker 2: Okay, I got that.
• 23:48
Speaker 1: But then he said something that we've talked about forever,
• 23:50
Speaker 1: which is I would never take a quarterback who only
• 23:52
Speaker 1: played one sport, and Buck correct me if I'm wrong.
• 23:58
Speaker 2: Rice only played one sport.
• 24:00
Speaker 4: I think so he played a little bit of basketball
• 24:03
Speaker 4: a little bit, but I don't know if he played
• 24:04
Speaker 4: for the High CJ.
• 24:05
Speaker 1: Played like they grew up together and they grew up
• 24:08
Speaker 1: competing against each other, and it was just I mean,
• 24:11
Speaker 1: and Buck had both of them on his seven on seventeen,
• 24:14
  Speaker 1: but I just I thought that was and I didn't
• 24:16
Speaker 1: think he was I'm not saying he was taking a
• 24:18
Speaker 1: shot at bright show, but I'm thinking it was kind
• 24:20
Speaker 1: of like it was kind of like, how could you
• 24:21
Speaker 1: overlook this? Like how did you guys think guy was
• 24:24
Speaker 1: a second pick? It wasn't like he fell that far
• 24:25
  Speaker 1: in the draft.
• 24:26
Speaker 4: No, But I think I think just all the conversation,
• 24:29
  Speaker 4: and I think in a way that's that's his way
• 24:31
Speaker 4: of keeping receipts and keeping the conversation going. I think
• 24:35
Speaker 4: the main thing when he talked about instincts, he also
• 24:37
Speaker 4: talked about making sure that you talk to the teammates
• 24:41
Speaker 4: about how they viewed the quarterback and those things. I
• 24:44
Speaker 4: think the best part of his game when you hear
• 24:48
Speaker 4: his teammates talk about his leadership skills and those things.
• 24:51
Speaker 3: I was reading the quotes.
• 24:53
Speaker 4: After the game about looking through the interception and how
• 24:55
Speaker 4: he just went to the things that hey, guys, it's
• 24:57
Speaker 4: so many we got one play at a time. I
• 24:58
Speaker 4: got this, I'll figure it out, we'll fit exit or whatever.
• 25:01
Speaker 4: To me, the fact that he's been thrown in a
• 25:03
Speaker 4: situation where he doesn't have a marque playmaker around him,
• 25:06
Speaker 4: and he has had the kind of like.
• 25:08
Speaker 2: Oh, I don't know about that.
• 25:09
Speaker 5: Now take down, let's go.
• 25:12
  Speaker 1: I mean like, I mean, he's really you're saying, like
• 25:16
  Speaker 1: someone who's been.
• 25:20
  Speaker 3: That whatever.
• 25:20
Speaker 4: But I think you know because he played without Nico
• 25:23
Speaker 4: Collins yesterday, right, he didn't have Nico Collins.
• 25:26
  Speaker 2: Noah Brown.
• 25:27
Speaker 1: I guess, I guess I undergraded Noah Brown.
• 25:29
  Speaker 2: That's the story.
• 25:32
Speaker 4: Yeah, And man, this team has so much confidence that
• 25:36
Speaker 4: they've not only worked themselves in the conversation, they're like, well,
• 25:38
Speaker 4: they're not going to be one of the top teams
• 25:40
Speaker 4: in the draft, but they legitimately have a shot to
• 25:42
Speaker 4: win the AFC South By.
• 25:44
Speaker 5: The way, Sheldon Rankins might have played the game of
• 25:46
Speaker 5: his life yesterday at defensive tackle. And I'm not sure
• 25:48
Speaker 5: a lot of people even realized he's on the Texans.
• 25:51
Speaker 2: Right, Hey, three sacks?
• 25:53
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, just unbelievable that he comes in there
• 25:56
Speaker 4: like they're they're looked at it. They're talking to town,
• 25:58
Speaker 4: they have talked to everyone is beginning to discuss CJ.
• 26:01
Speaker 4: Stroud and how this team has kind of come from
• 26:03
Speaker 4: out of nowhere's kind of be in the conversation as
• 26:05
  Speaker 4: a playoff contender.
• 26:06
  Speaker 3: It's really remarkable.
• 26:07
Speaker 1: Yeah, well, look the other side of it, real quick.
• 26:09
Speaker 1: Not great for the Bengals. Burrow had a couple of turnovers.
• 26:12
Speaker 1: They weren't totally healthy. But no excuse there.
• 26:14
Speaker 3: That's again they can't run the ball.
• 26:17
Speaker 1: Yeah again they threw. Yeah, Burrow threw for three forty
• 26:21
Speaker 1: seven but had the two turnovers. Jamar Chase had a
• 26:24
Speaker 1: big day. Tyler Boyd had a big day, but sixty
• 26:27
Speaker 1: six rushing yards to Bucky's point there, So that's that's concerning.
• 26:32
Speaker 1: And then they couldn't get a stop. I mean, you
• 26:33
Speaker 1: couldn't get a stop at the end of the game
• 26:34
Speaker 1: when you need to stop. So I'm not gonna plan
• 26:36
Speaker 1: on the Bengals. I think they're gonna be okay. They're
• 26:38
Speaker 1: coming off of a couple of big wins. They'll probably
• 26:40
Speaker 1: do for a little bit of a let down there,
• 26:42
Speaker 1: but Houston, as Bucky said, is very much in the
• 26:44
Speaker 1: mix to win that division. So big win for them.
• 26:47
  Speaker 1: All Right, we'll take a break, we'll come back, we'll
• 26:49
Speaker 1: jump into the Seattle Washington game. We'll start there right
• 26:53
Speaker 1: after this, all right, guys, see how twenty six they
• 27:02
Speaker 1: beat the Commanders. Big day for Gino Smith stat wise,
• 27:05
Speaker 1: you look down three hundred and sixty nine yards, a
• 27:07
Speaker 1: couple of touchdowns. DK Metcalf had a big day, Lockett
• 27:11
Speaker 1: had a big day Smith and Jigbo was solid. They
• 27:13
Speaker 1: get the game winning field goal at the end there.
• 27:15
Speaker 1: They ran the ball well with their two young backs,
• 27:17
Speaker 1: with Kenneth Walker and Zach Sharbonay. I went back and
• 27:20
Speaker 1: watched the video and I'll get I'll spend a brief
• 27:23
Speaker 1: amount of time on the Seahawks before because I want
• 27:24
Speaker 1: to get to Washington. It was actually more interesting than
• 27:26
Speaker 1: me when I watched the tape. But with with Gino,
• 27:31
  Speaker 1: he's moving around well like he's you know, it's it's
• 27:34
Speaker 1: an underrated aspect of his game. Like he'll he'll kind
• 27:36
Speaker 1: of exhaust plays at times. There's times that he'll hold
• 27:38
Speaker 1: the ball, maybe take a sack, but he's extending plays.
• 27:41
Speaker 1: He's making some things happen. And then they've got guys
• 27:43
Speaker 1: that can do stuff with the ball in their hands,
• 27:44
Speaker 1: Like it's not only the wide ouse. With DK, we
• 27:47
Speaker 1: know how physical and fast he is after the catch.
• 27:49
Speaker 1: But then Kenneth Walker what he adds to the passing
• 27:51
Speaker 1: game to be able to check the ball down. I
• 27:54
Speaker 1: was just thinking about it with the Kenneth Walker aspect
• 27:56
Speaker 1: of it. Are you missing the boat if if you
• 28:00
Speaker 1: have if you are playing two running backs, most teams
• 28:02
Speaker 1: are playing two guys primarily, right, you got two guys.
• 28:06
  Speaker 2: Doesn't one of.
• 28:06
Speaker 1: The two have to be able to make house calls? Like,
• 28:09
Speaker 1: doesn't one of the two have to be dynamic and explosive,
• 28:12
Speaker 1: Like I'm all for you know, look, instinctive power, you know,
• 28:16
Speaker 1: those are great elements in the back. But if I've
• 28:18
Speaker 1: got that the other guy buck, I want that guy
• 28:20
Speaker 1: to be able to freaking go. And you watch Kenneth Walker,
• 28:23
Speaker 1: he can absolutely go. I saw what Jamir Gibbs we
• 28:25
  Speaker 1: referenced earlier.
• 28:26
  Speaker 2: He can fly.
• 28:27
Speaker 1: You see all these some of these undersized backs that
• 28:29
Speaker 1: are making plays each and every week. Like, I just
• 28:31
Speaker 1: think that the speed, the speed of the running back
• 28:34
Speaker 1: is kind of back.
• 28:35
  Speaker 2: It's it's back in business.
• 28:37
Speaker 3: Oh, it has to be. You have to have the
• 28:38
Speaker 3: ability to produce big plays.
• 28:40
Speaker 4: Like it's a correlation between explosive plays and putting points
• 28:43
Speaker 4: on the board. If you don't have anyone that can
• 28:45
Speaker 4: take into distance, it's hard to have ten play drives,
• 28:47
Speaker 4: four and five plays at four and five yards at
• 28:49
Speaker 4: a time. You need to have at least one back
• 28:51
Speaker 4: to have some major juice. And I would suggest two
• 28:53
Speaker 4: out of you three, you need to have some big
• 28:55
  Speaker 4: play potential.
• 28:56
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, and then you saw it, you know,
• 28:58
Speaker 5: in the in the past game with Kenneth Walker right
• 29:00
Speaker 5: on that sixty and he just he was out the gate.
• 29:04
Speaker 5: And you know you saw that at Michigan State that
• 29:06
Speaker 5: final year. I mean, he had a ton of explosive plays,
• 29:09
Speaker 5: you know, a bunch of them in the run game,
• 29:11
Speaker 5: more so in the past game. But he Yeah, that
• 29:13
Speaker 5: is a terrific one two punch because Charbona makes you
• 29:16
Speaker 5: feel it right when you're gonna come at him, He's
• 29:18
Speaker 5: gonna make you feel it. And Kenneth Walker has has everything,
• 29:21
Speaker 5: all the juice you want. Had a running back that's
• 29:23
Speaker 5: a that is a potent attack, and a physical offensive
• 29:25
Speaker 5: line too up there in Seattle.
• 29:27
Speaker 1: Yeah, and and an offensive line that I'm I don't know,
• 29:29
Speaker 1: if they had a get together. I would imagine like
• 29:32
Speaker 1: if I'm if I'm in that offensive line group and
• 29:34
Speaker 1: I know, I've got the commanders coming up, and they
• 29:36
Speaker 1: want to trade Montes sweat and Chase hung before.
• 29:38
Speaker 2: You play him. Hey, I'm good, let's have at. Let's
• 29:40
  Speaker 2: have at.
• 29:41
Speaker 1: We'll have a little Mexican food and maybe have a
• 29:43
Speaker 1: little get together with the offensive line. Just kind of
• 29:45
Speaker 1: enjoy our enjoy our evening together. Because that does not
• 29:48
Speaker 1: look like the same Washington defensive front. They couldn't get
• 29:50
Speaker 1: any pressure. Sam Howell played good guys, He's a good player. Right,
• 29:53
Speaker 1: I'll jump over to you on this one. But I'm
• 29:55
Speaker 1: watching him going like they've got a quarter.
• 29:56
  Speaker 2: He's their guy.
• 29:57
Speaker 5: He can be I feel like that that that's the
• 30:00
Speaker 5: part of the piece of the discussion here. I mean
• 30:01
Speaker 5: the way that he leads him down and throws that
• 30:03
Speaker 5: touchdown late to to kind of give him through. I mean,
• 30:06
Speaker 5: big t Diami Brown, you know, love that obviously, the
• 30:09
Speaker 5: built in connection there and all that, But I mean,
• 30:12
Speaker 5: how about the off schedule play just to get it
• 30:15
Speaker 5: to be to Brian Robinson for the first touchdown. Now,
• 30:18
Speaker 5: they went quiet for way too long in that game offensively,
• 30:21
Speaker 5: I don't know if you put all that on how though.
• 30:23
Speaker 5: I mean, he's been efficient, Yeah, he's thrown some picks.
• 30:26
Speaker 5: He's been sacked a bunch. They have got to improve
• 30:29
Speaker 5: that offensive line like that is now now. I mean,
• 30:31
Speaker 5: like I was gonna say it's priority one, but I
• 30:33
Speaker 5: don't have any edge rushers anymore, so like it's kind.
• 30:35
Speaker 1: Of line I want to help the quarterback out.
• 30:38
Speaker 5: Yeah, you got to, and we'll get to that. I
• 30:40
Speaker 5: know we got we'll have a pretty interesting discussion on
• 30:42
Speaker 5: helping out your young quarterback on the video show this week.
• 30:45
Speaker 5: But Sam Howe, I think has proven at this point
• 30:49
Speaker 5: in the season that he deserves the opportunity to be
• 30:52
Speaker 5: QB one going into next year. And now it's about supporting.
• 30:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, who knew you do, Caroline? Who knew?
• 30:57
Speaker 1: Bucke's Alma Waters a quarterback factory? Drake may coming. We
• 31:00
Speaker 1: got Sam Howell playing great? Who knew?
• 31:02
Speaker 4: And he looks he's even connecting with Theammy Brown Toury connection.
• 31:08
Speaker 4: So like Sam Howe, I would say it has exceeded
• 31:10
Speaker 4: expectations because it hasn't been perfect for him, and you're
• 31:12
Speaker 4: right that offensive line is very leaky, but his leadership ability,
• 31:15
Speaker 4: but his passing skills he certainly has it.
• 31:18
Speaker 3: They got to steal the fact he's a fifth round pick.
• 31:20
Speaker 4: And the amount of money they're paying him for what
• 31:22
Speaker 4: they're getting, it should allow them to build up the
• 31:24
Speaker 4: rest of their team.
• 31:25
  Speaker 5: Yeah, good point.
• 31:26
Speaker 1: All right, let's let's keep it rolling here. Bucky, you're
• 31:28
Speaker 1: up next. This is a game again. I try and
• 31:30
Speaker 1: get as many of these as I can't watch as
• 31:32
Speaker 1: much tape. I did not see any of this game.
• 31:34
Speaker 1: I have not seen any tape of this game. So
• 31:35
Speaker 1: I'm curious to see what went down here with the
• 31:38
Speaker 1: Browns coming back and beating the Ravens thirty three to
• 31:40
  Speaker 1: thirty one.
• 31:41
Speaker 4: Such a weird game, right, But so you look up
• 31:42
Speaker 4: and I mean the Ravens are just shell lacking the Browns.
• 31:45
Speaker 4: I mean, just up and down the field. You're seeing
• 31:47
Speaker 4: Lamar Jackson half his way. You see an early run
• 31:50
Speaker 4: from Keyton Mitchell. He does what he does evidently, which
• 31:53
Speaker 4: is a breakout for thirty five plus yard run for
• 31:56
Speaker 4: a touchdown early and the.
• 31:57
Speaker 2: Other speed guy sitting all speed guys, you know.
• 31:59
Speaker 4: And so you see that, you see a vintage Odell
• 32:01
Speaker 4: Beckham junior moment. He catches the slang and throws up
• 32:04
Speaker 4: the deuces, and you begin to think that the Ravens
• 32:09
Speaker 4: are gonna blow them out, and then the game just
• 32:11
Speaker 4: kind of takes an odd turn in the late stages.
• 32:14
Speaker 4: Deshaun Watson, after struggling the first part of the game,
• 32:18
Speaker 4: he kind of finds a rhythm. They make a couple
• 32:20
Speaker 4: of plays and they find themselves in it. And then
• 32:23
Speaker 4: DeShawn Washson earned a little, I would say a lot
• 32:27
Speaker 4: of respect from his teammates and his coaches just by
• 32:29
Speaker 4: hanging in there and battling. It wasn't pretty, but he
• 32:31
Speaker 4: made enough plays to put him back in the mix,
• 32:34
Speaker 4: and lo and behold, they walk away with the win
• 32:36
Speaker 4: and a gang of confidence, thinking that they may be
• 32:39
Speaker 4: able to compete despite all the deficiencies that they have
• 32:42
Speaker 4: on their offensive side of the ball.
• 32:44
Speaker 5: Yeah, and you know, you love to feel like you
• 32:48
Speaker 5: all you've got way up there. I feel like you
• 32:50
Speaker 5: love to keep a little lower, a little lower, Yeah,
• 32:54
Speaker 5: go all the way down even just put it on you.
• 32:59
Speaker 5: I think with Baltimore, like, I love that they can
• 33:02
Speaker 5: put the points up right. I love that they can
• 33:03
Speaker 5: come out And obviously Kyle Hamilton's work at the beginning
• 33:07
Speaker 5: of the game, I mean that was that was a
• 33:09
Speaker 5: lot right, incredible athleticism. But I think I just I
• 33:12
Speaker 5: would love the Ravens to still have that ability to
• 33:14
Speaker 5: put a game away in the fourth quarter, like you
• 33:16
Speaker 5: were up fourteen points in the fourth quarter, Like, let's
• 33:18
Speaker 5: salt that thing away the way that we've seen the
• 33:20
Speaker 5: Ravens ground and pound, like, I love that they could
• 33:22
Speaker 5: throw it around a little bit more this year, but
• 33:25
Speaker 5: I still want to see them assert their dominance, you
• 33:28
Speaker 5: know in the ground game.
• 33:29
Speaker 2: What happened on the.
• 33:29
Speaker 1: Pick six, because again I'm looking at the notes on
• 33:32
Speaker 1: the game. I haven't seen the game.
• 33:33
Speaker 4: I just got deflected, log got deflected, bug got deflected.
• 33:37
Speaker 4: K Newsom comes out of know where, it makes a
• 33:39
Speaker 4: great play, goes and takes the other way.
• 33:41
Speaker 3: But Red, you bring up a big point.
• 33:43
Speaker 4: All three of the Ravens' losses have come when they've
• 33:46
Speaker 4: had leads, significant leads, and they haven't been Pittsburgh.
• 33:49
Speaker 2: They blew that game.
• 33:50
Speaker 3: Yeah so so so now I'm beginning to wonder.
• 33:53
Speaker 4: I know they wanted to move away from that run
• 33:55
Speaker 4: heavy attack, that they would utilize it under Greg Roman,
• 33:58
Speaker 4: but I do want to if they were running ball
• 34:00
Speaker 4: like that where they have lost these games.
• 34:02
Speaker 5: And so once once they developed the fourteen point lead,
• 34:05
Speaker 5: they ran the ball three more times from nine minutes
• 34:08
Speaker 5: on in the fourth quarter. Interesting, Yeah, three times, just weird,
• 34:12
Speaker 5: Like it just does when they're built to do that.
• 34:14
Speaker 5: They're built to put a team away more than anybody.
• 34:17
Speaker 4: They should be their mentality should be able to grind
• 34:19
Speaker 4: it out and kind of punch people in the ribs
• 34:21
Speaker 4: and kind of get them.
• 34:22
Speaker 3: Up out of there. But but they haven't.
• 34:24
Speaker 4: And so you now look at this division and it's
• 34:27
Speaker 4: all muddled up and they have a tough game.
• 34:29
Speaker 3: I think next week they play the Bengals. Are the Steelers.
• 34:34
Speaker 3: They have another division game, they have another division.
• 34:36
Speaker 5: Game, Bengals. Yeah. So so now that's Thursday night.
• 34:41
Speaker 1: It's great day. We got a good one Thursday night.
• 34:44
Speaker 3: That's like that's like a loser leave town match, and
• 34:47
  Speaker 3: like so.
• 34:49
Speaker 4: It's a big game because you're gonna look up and
• 34:52
Speaker 4: you're representative from them, you know if the Pittsburgh Stellers.
• 34:56
Speaker 2: Oh maybe, Man, that's what it's gonna be. All right,
• 35:01
Speaker 2: let's keep it rolling here. RTT. What's the next game?
• 35:03
Speaker 5: Yeah, next one is the twenty twenty three debut of
• 35:08
Speaker 5: one Kyler Murray for the Arizona Cardinals getting the first start.
• 35:13
Speaker 5: What kind of a wacky wild world that's been at
• 35:15
Speaker 5: quarterback in Arizona, right, I mean, we thought for so
• 35:18
Speaker 5: long it was going to be Colt McCoy starting week one.
• 35:20
Speaker 5: He then gets jettison. Josh Dabbs comes in week before,
• 35:24
Speaker 5: starts the first eight games, Clayton tuone starts one at
• 35:26
Speaker 5: the disaster, and then Murray comes back kind of to
• 35:30
Speaker 5: save the day here week ten. Now, look, there was
• 35:32
Speaker 5: definitely a little bit of rust. He was off kind
• 35:35
Speaker 5: of uncharacteristically on a few throws that he normally makes.
• 35:38
Speaker 5: But man, he had He had a beautiful sideline throw
• 35:42
Speaker 5: to Trey McBride, who, by the way, is coming. He
• 35:45
Speaker 5: started to play as a tight end now like Colorado
• 35:47
Speaker 5: State second round pick I think two years ago. Now,
• 35:49
Speaker 5: I mean, is really coming to play.
• 35:52
  Speaker 2: Now.
• 35:52
Speaker 5: There's some I thought he had which was kind of
• 35:54
Speaker 5: I kind of view Kyler as as a little bit
• 35:57
Speaker 5: of a you know, a wild card in terms of
• 36:00
Speaker 5: fundamentals and mechanics, right, because he can do it from
• 36:02
Speaker 5: all over the place. But he had some textbook mechanical
• 36:05
Speaker 5: stuff that looks really good. Rolling left gadget play. He stops,
• 36:08
Speaker 5: resets his feet, gets his hips in the right direction,
• 36:10
Speaker 5: throws a perfect strike all the way across the field
• 36:13
Speaker 5: for an explosive play, but then still has some of
• 36:16
Speaker 5: those those throws were unnecessarily kind of like fades away
• 36:20
Speaker 5: throws one that goes incomplete. But I think the biggest
• 36:23
Speaker 5: revelation in this game his knee is okay, Like it
• 36:29
Speaker 5: is it is all good, Like you see him take
• 36:31
Speaker 5: it down and scramble when he sees open grass. He's
• 36:34
Speaker 5: got a read option that he pulls for a touchdown
• 36:36
Speaker 5: down inside the ten. And then that wild run right
• 36:39
Speaker 5: on third and ten, he runs seventy four yards to
• 36:44
Speaker 5: pick up I think fourteen on a conversion. And by
• 36:47
Speaker 5: the way, DJ, you'll love this on the GPS, he
• 36:49
Speaker 5: went over twenty miles an hour on that throw. I
• 36:53
Speaker 5: think that that the theme of this thing is Kyler
• 36:56
Speaker 5: makes the Cardinals dangerous against any opponent.
• 36:58
  Speaker 2: Here.
• 36:59
Speaker 5: Now the question is what does this do for them
• 37:02
Speaker 5: from a from a roster development standpoint, Like you know,
• 37:06
Speaker 5: like we're are you going to see enoughing Kyler over
• 37:08
Speaker 5: the course of the next eight weeks where you're like.
• 37:10
Speaker 1: Dude, that that that that decision might be made for him,
• 37:12
Speaker 1: right because if the season and today they're picking fourth.
• 37:15
Speaker 5: Yeah, you're gonna be you're gonna be out of luck.
• 37:17
Speaker 2: So they're out of the they're out of that market.
• 37:19
Speaker 2: So that that, you know, it's interesting.
• 37:21
Speaker 1: We'll start keeping an eye on the draft order as
• 37:23
Speaker 1: we you know, as we go through the second half
• 37:24
Speaker 1: of the season here, because that's a storyline we got
• 37:26
Speaker 1: to keep an eye on. But you know, I'm looking
• 37:28
Speaker 1: at the other side.
• 37:30
  Speaker 3: Man.
• 37:30
Speaker 1: It's for as much as the Jets get talked about
• 37:33
Speaker 1: as being quarterback challenged, man, the Falcons just they're wasting
• 37:37
Speaker 1: a lot of good players on that side of the ball.
• 37:40
Speaker 5: Three catches for Drake London, three catches for Kyle Pitts.
• 37:44
Speaker 2: At least they gave b Jon Robinson the ball this week.
• 37:46
Speaker 5: Twenty two carries. Yeah, that was nice.
• 37:48
Speaker 1: He did good stuff. Not enough five yards on a touchdown.
• 37:51
Speaker 1: They only threw him at once. But I mean, I
• 37:53
  Speaker 1: don't know, they're frush. I don't want to We we
• 37:54
Speaker 1: kind of talk about the Falcons every week.
• 37:57
  Speaker 2: A little frustrated. Somebody's frustrated.
• 37:59
Speaker 1: They're frustrating Buck when you see that many good players
• 38:01
Speaker 1: at the skill positions and they're just there's something like,
• 38:05
Speaker 1: can you you tell me, Buck, if you if you
• 38:06
Speaker 1: had all the those bills. That bills offense you around,
• 38:09
Speaker 1: what if you didn't have a quarterback, you didn't have
• 38:11
Speaker 1: Jim Kelly there at that time those guys, you guys been.
• 38:13
Speaker 2: Pulling your hair out.
• 38:14
Speaker 5: Well this one for a second too, and sorry bucketting
• 38:17
Speaker 5: me to cutch off. So we're getting to the point
• 38:20
Speaker 5: where the Falcons are gonna have to make a call
• 38:22
Speaker 5: on Kyle Pitts's fifth year option, Like it's gonna come up.
• 38:25
Speaker 5: I think it might come up.
• 38:26
Speaker 1: It up because you can trade him. You just pick
• 38:27
Speaker 1: it up, because even if you don't know how to
• 38:29
Speaker 1: use him, you'll be.
• 38:30
Speaker 5: Get do you think, oh I think?
• 38:32
Speaker 2: I mean at worst you get a one two.
• 38:34
  Speaker 5: At worst you're.
• 38:35
Speaker 1: Getting it to you might get a late you might
• 38:36
Speaker 1: get a mid to late one.
• 38:38
Speaker 5: Well, just with the way that offense is constructed to play,
• 38:41
Speaker 5: I mean, like does it matter if you have him
• 38:43
Speaker 5: or you don't in Atlanta? I mean, why not go
• 38:46
Speaker 5: get I mean, if you're not going to use it
• 38:47
Speaker 5: that way, they might as well, you know, try to
• 38:49
Speaker 5: get something for him, right.
• 38:50
Speaker 1: I know one thing I'd call in the Charger games,
• 38:52
Speaker 1: he can come to the Chargers because I would love
• 38:54
Speaker 1: to see him with that all.
• 38:56
Speaker 2: Just add another add another tree topper to that list. Yeah,
• 39:01
Speaker 2: it is, it is.
• 39:03
Speaker 4: I could see the frustration when it comes to Atlantic,
• 39:06
Speaker 4: because you would think we all thought this offense was
• 39:07
Speaker 4: gonna be high powered. I thought they'd be able to
• 39:09
Speaker 4: score points regardless who the quarterback was. I thought'd be
• 39:11
Speaker 4: able to the explosiveness that they had on the outside,
• 39:13
Speaker 4: and they just haven't been able to do it. Arthur
• 39:15
Speaker 4: Smith is obviously frustrated the quarterback play has not been
• 39:18
Speaker 4: what he wanted. Towne Heinekee was the quarterback. Then he
• 39:20
Speaker 4: gets hurt. So then Desert Ritter comes back in. He's
• 39:22
Speaker 4: just not good enough. We'll see, because this is going
• 39:26
Speaker 4: to be one where they rude the lost opportunity to
• 39:29
Speaker 4: win the division because the division is right different than
• 39:31
  Speaker 4: the take.
• 39:31
Speaker 2: Man, they know that get it done now.
• 39:33
Speaker 1: They can't get out of their wrong way, all right,
• 39:35
Speaker 1: the Vikings they beat the Saints. The Josh Dobbs movie.
• 39:40
Speaker 1: You know, this is like a Disney movie. Man, the
• 39:42
Speaker 1: way this thing's all coming together for him after this trade,
• 39:45
Speaker 1: gets thrust right into the lineup, has a solid game,
• 39:48
Speaker 1: and this one it was a slow start. Took him
• 39:49
Speaker 1: a while to get going. Watching the tape on that
• 39:52
Speaker 1: I was curious to see how much they were going
• 39:54
Speaker 1: to use some design quarterback runs. He's so athletic, and
• 39:56
Speaker 1: I saw the eight carries for forty four yards, but
• 39:58
Speaker 1: just two zone riad keepers.
• 40:00
  Speaker 2: That was it.
• 40:00
Speaker 1: Everything else is kind of organic coming out of the play,
• 40:03
Speaker 1: and he's able to scramble and make some things happen there.
• 40:06
Speaker 1: But the other thing I was thinking of, and I
• 40:08
Speaker 1: was talking to read about this a little earlier, Buck,
• 40:10
Speaker 1: but I mean the Vikings, maybe more so anybody else.
• 40:14
Speaker 1: They might have executed like the two best trades of
• 40:17
Speaker 1: the last few years. And and not say that didn't
• 40:20
Speaker 1: work out for the other teams, because obviously Stefan Diggs
• 40:22
Speaker 1: has been a good player for the for the Bills.
• 40:24
Speaker 1: But in that trade they get Justin Jefferson, So that's
• 40:28
Speaker 1: they take a young they get rid of the veteran,
• 40:29
Speaker 1: take the young player. Then they trade a pick for TJ. Hockinson,
• 40:33
Speaker 1: which has been an excellent player for them. He had
• 40:35
Speaker 1: a huge day man eleven for a buck thirty four
• 40:37
Speaker 1: in a touchdown, And when I watched the tape of him,
• 40:40
Speaker 1: I loved him as a blocker coming out, and I
• 40:41
Speaker 1: thought he was going to be a solid tight end.
• 40:44
Speaker 1: He maybe hasn't been as dominant a blocker as I
• 40:47
Speaker 1: thought he would, but he's been a better receiver then
• 40:50
Speaker 1: I thought he would.
• 40:51
  Speaker 2: But he's a good.
• 40:51
Speaker 1: Player, and I saw some savvy on him, like he
• 40:55
Speaker 1: can really get up on your toes and then he's
• 40:57
Speaker 1: able to lean and nod and stick and go. He
• 40:59
Speaker 1: he's polished right now. I almost wonder if if Justin
• 41:03
Speaker 1: Jefferson's helped him some it just to develop some more
• 41:06
Speaker 1: nuance and some more polish to his game.
• 41:08
Speaker 4: I wondered, I mean, I wondered that when it comes
• 41:10
Speaker 4: to that, Like Dave Hockinson talked about the connection here
• 41:13
Speaker 4: and Josh Dobbs have evidently the off season they used.
• 41:15
Speaker 3: To throw to one another over and over and over again.
• 41:18
Speaker 3: Maybe they shared the same agent.
• 41:19
Speaker 4: Mike Mack might be both of their representatives, but they
• 41:22
Speaker 4: thrown to each other going back to Dopps. Unless I
• 41:27
Speaker 4: misremember the evaluation, I don't remember him running a lot
• 41:31
Speaker 4: at Tennessee. I remember he ran some, but I don't
• 41:33
Speaker 4: remember him being the choice.
• 41:35
Speaker 2: But he could, but he could, but he could run
• 41:37
  Speaker 2: like the.
• 41:38
Speaker 4: Dude that I'm seeing in the Minnesota Vikers uniform. I'm like, hey, man,
• 41:40
Speaker 4: this dude is like super athletic with a little swag
• 41:43
Speaker 4: and a little flare. I feel like he's fully come
• 41:45
Speaker 4: into the confident version of the quarterback that is playing.
• 41:50
Speaker 4: And look, it'll be interesting what happens for him at
• 41:54
Speaker 4: the end of the season. But this is a really
• 41:56
Speaker 4: solid Minnesota team and I don't think we can speak
• 41:59
Speaker 4: enough about but they've done defensively to really up the annie.
• 42:03
Speaker 3: Brian Floyes has really been a nice get for them.
• 42:05
Speaker 4: They're playing really good defense, They're really throwing a bunch
• 42:08
Speaker 4: of things at opposing quarterbacks, and they're going to kind
• 42:11
Speaker 4: of climb into conversation as a playoff team because Kevin
• 42:14
Speaker 4: O'Connor has done a really good job.
• 42:15
Speaker 3: And then she said, what are they? Are? They one
• 42:18
Speaker 3: and four with without with Justin Jefferson, but five and
• 42:22
  Speaker 3: zero without him.
• 42:23
  Speaker 2: It's pretty crazy.
• 42:25
Speaker 5: When he gets that doesn't mean anything to me.
• 42:28
Speaker 2: Du back, No, no, no.
• 42:30
Speaker 4: But when he gets back though, because remember early New
• 42:32
Speaker 4: Year they were kind of force feed him, is this
• 42:34
Speaker 4: now a more balanced offense when it comes to ball
• 42:37
Speaker 4: distribution when Justin Jefferson comes.
• 42:39
Speaker 1: I looked up the notes because you got me thinking.
• 42:41
Speaker 1: So I'm back to twenty seventeen, Josh Dobbs was six
• 42:44
Speaker 1: zho three three two sixteen ran a four to six
• 42:47
Speaker 1: four my notes gun spread, some half rolls, some zone reads.
• 42:52
Speaker 2: Some QB sweeps. So he did run the ball. I'll
• 42:54
Speaker 2: get there. He can avoid climb in the pocket.
• 42:57
Speaker 1: Full field you'll see full field read is gonna win delivery.
• 43:01
Speaker 2: How about the topp are here, guys the last line
• 43:03
Speaker 2: I'm on. My thing had a great Senior Bowl week.
• 43:06
Speaker 5: Swear we do this, We do this every week, Like
• 43:10
  Speaker 5: what is again?
• 43:11
Speaker 1: I guess that that that you know, that week of
• 43:13
Speaker 1: practice for the quarterbacks, and I guess we got to
• 43:17
Speaker 1: start we got to start putting more into that man,
• 43:19
Speaker 1: because I just keep seeing this, well Dak Prescott him
• 43:21
Speaker 1: like there's there's I swear we've done this seven times this.
• 43:24
Speaker 5: Year where we've talked about that, and we're going to
• 43:25
Speaker 5: see more dudes, more high level dudes now with now
• 43:29
Speaker 5: being eligible. But let me just one quick thing on
• 43:31
Speaker 5: the Saints as the part of that game. You know,
• 43:34
Speaker 5: the Saints kind of had a little brief resurgence there
• 43:37
Speaker 5: the last couple of weeks, and I thought, you know,
• 43:39
Speaker 5: at least in my opinion, Taysom Hill in the rediscovery
• 43:42
Speaker 5: of his abilities as a Swiss Army knife type of weapon.
• 43:45
Speaker 5: It was a big part of that resurgence offensively.
• 43:48
  Speaker 3: And come back.
• 43:48
Speaker 2: In this game, he's got three touches.
• 43:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, ran the ball once, was targeted a couple of times,
• 43:54
Speaker 5: caught two balls. Michael Thomas, by the way, played just
• 43:57
Speaker 5: two snaps in this game. I know there was some
• 44:01
Speaker 5: weird kind of legal legal stuff going on that week.
• 44:03
Speaker 5: I don't know how much that might have played into it,
• 44:05
Speaker 5: but at Perry, by the way, had a really good
• 44:08
Speaker 5: East West Shrine Bowl week. Yeah, at Perry came in big,
• 44:12
Speaker 5: big frame at his first career touchdown. But I just
• 44:15
Speaker 5: still think they've got to find ways to get taste,
• 44:17
Speaker 5: get the ball in Taysom Hill's hands one way or another.
• 44:19
Speaker 5: I know, like you can't spend the entire game and
• 44:22
Speaker 5: some of those gadget looks with him, but man, they're
• 44:25
Speaker 5: different when he's contributing and impacting the game.
• 44:28
  Speaker 2: Interesting.
• 44:29
Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, he's a solid player. They need him
• 44:32
Speaker 4: because he has been impactful with the games.
• 44:34
  Speaker 3: That they played.
• 44:34
  Speaker 2: Well.
• 44:35
Speaker 4: He's had a big role in the offense as a
• 44:37
Speaker 4: runner and as a gadget utility player.
• 44:40
Speaker 1: All Right, last one we're going to hit on in
• 44:42
Speaker 1: depth here, and that is the Steelers beating the Packers
• 44:45
Speaker 1: Buck as you mentioned a little bit earlier, kind of
• 44:47
Speaker 1: joking but not joking. Steelers has got a good chance
• 44:49
Speaker 1: to win this division.
• 44:50
Speaker 4: MAN six and three DJ six and three, and that
• 44:53
Speaker 4: they find a way to win without gaining more yards
• 44:56
Speaker 4: than their opponent. It is the biggest magic trick that
• 44:59
Speaker 4: we have seen. If they can hold the opponent to
• 45:02
Speaker 4: under twenty two points, they find a way to win.
• 45:04
Speaker 4: And they did it again with the Packers. They just
• 45:07
Speaker 4: kind of piece millet together, hodgepodge, whatever you want to
• 45:10
  Speaker 4: call it.
• 45:11
Speaker 3: They were able to get two hundred and five rushing yards,
• 45:13
  Speaker 3: which is significant.
• 45:15
Speaker 4: Jayden Warren has kind of been the guy. It's kind
• 45:16
Speaker 4: of funny because and watching them feel level. Jayden Warren
• 45:19
Speaker 4: no more juice, Yeah, some juice. He makes some things happen.
• 45:22
Speaker 4: But they're finally running the ball. With both of those guys,
• 45:27
Speaker 4: they kind of they committed in this game to running
• 45:29
Speaker 4: the football and made life easier for Kenny Pickett. If
• 45:32
Speaker 4: they're going to be this defensive led team and they
• 45:35
Speaker 4: can run the football, they can make life miserable because
• 45:37
Speaker 4: they can get the game into the fourth quarter, and
• 45:39
Speaker 4: they have shown that they are very comfortable in these
• 45:41
Speaker 4: uncomfortable moments where you have to get a play in
• 45:44
Speaker 4: the fourth quarter. Mike Tomlin continues to pull out these
• 45:48
Speaker 4: rabbits out of pass. I don't know how he does it,
• 45:50
Speaker 4: but they're six and three and it's probably one of
• 45:52
Speaker 4: the biggest miracles that I've ever seen.
• 45:54
Speaker 1: Yeah, I was watching them or watching the tape of
• 45:57
Speaker 1: this game. I tweeted out Brodick Jones and he's he's
• 46:01
Speaker 1: he is a stud like they. I don't know what
• 46:03
Speaker 1: took him so long to get him in the lineup
• 46:05
Speaker 1: and get him going, but there they had I think
• 46:07
Speaker 1: eight explosive runs and I want to say six or
• 46:10
Speaker 1: were right behind him, or he's either got the key
• 46:12
Speaker 1: block on the backside cutting guys off, or he's working
• 46:14
Speaker 1: up to a linebacker. He's a key, key component to
• 46:17
Speaker 1: why this run game has has got cranked up so
• 46:20
Speaker 1: and not a surprise there. I think, you know, Omar
• 46:22
Speaker 1: Khn and Andy Wide or good friends, they've known each
• 46:25
Speaker 1: other forever. They get paired up. They I think they
• 46:29
Speaker 1: believe Omar has seen the Steelers when they were really good,
• 46:32
Speaker 1: how they were a line of scrimmage. Team Andy is
• 46:34
Speaker 1: is Buck and you know as well read from Philadelphia
• 46:38
Speaker 1: and Baltimore understands this is not rocket science, right like you,
• 46:42
Speaker 1: I was talking about Detroit earlier. You went at the
• 46:43
Speaker 1: line of scrimmage. You invest in the offensive line, you
• 46:46
Speaker 1: invest in the defensive line, and you go off you go.
• 46:49
Speaker 1: And I was even thinking about, you know, watching this game,
• 46:52
Speaker 1: I was comparing the Steelers, who the way that they play,
• 46:57
Speaker 1: and I'm sitting here scratching my head, going, why aren't
• 47:01
Speaker 1: the Jets trying to do this like that? That doesn't
• 47:03
Speaker 1: make any sense to me. The Jets are throwing it
• 47:05
Speaker 1: twice as much as they're running it. They can't run
• 47:07
Speaker 1: the ball. Zack Wilson's there, you know, their best. You know,
• 47:10
Speaker 1: I think they are the most yards on the ground
• 47:11
Speaker 1: this last week. But I'm sitting there going like this
• 47:14
Speaker 1: is the Steelers know who they are. They don't care
• 47:17
Speaker 1: about style points. It's all bottom line. We're gonna we're
• 47:20
Speaker 1: gonna try and beat you up as best we can,
• 47:23
Speaker 1: and we're gonna have one more point than you do
• 47:25
Speaker 1: at the end of the day.
• 47:25
  Speaker 2: Book it looks.
• 47:27
Speaker 3: I love it. It is.
• 47:29
Speaker 5: It's funny and finally, finally, you know, like just understanding.
• 47:33
Speaker 5: It took you know, as you mentioned, it took a
• 47:34
Speaker 5: while to get proderct Jones in the lineup. It took him.
• 47:36
Speaker 5: It took a while to realize like, hey, you know,
• 47:39
Speaker 5: when we could pound this thing, you know we're gonna
• 47:41
Speaker 5: be in the game. We're going to control the pace
• 47:43
Speaker 5: of the game. So even if we're not putting up
• 47:45
Speaker 5: four hundred and fifty yards a game, we're going to
• 47:47
Speaker 5: control the game and be in it at the end
• 47:50
Speaker 5: and have a chance to win it at the end,
• 47:51
Speaker 5: which you know, like they did here and then they
• 47:54
Speaker 5: got a big play from the defense, uh Monte case
• 47:56
Speaker 5: and then interception on Jordan Love at the end of
• 47:58
Speaker 5: the game. So I I like this formula for Pittsburgh.
• 48:02
Speaker 5: It just fits Buck.
• 48:03
Speaker 1: They know who they are, man. I mean, I think
• 48:05
Speaker 1: you kind of get you talked earlier, Buck, you brought
• 48:08
Speaker 1: up a great point about the Lions. I actually said,
• 48:10
Speaker 1: this is funny because I said this during the broadcast
• 48:12
Speaker 1: of the game and you echoed it, which is, I'm
• 48:15
Speaker 1: a believer and some people think it's hokier cliche.
• 48:17
Speaker 2: I'm a believer that you take on the personality of
• 48:19
  Speaker 2: your head coach.
• 48:20
  Speaker 1: I don't think that's I don't think that's some goofy,
• 48:23
Speaker 1: you know, cliche fans speak. I think that's real and
• 48:26
Speaker 1: I think that if you look at Detroit, that is
• 48:28
Speaker 1: Dan Campbell. His identity sprinkled all over that team and
• 48:31
Speaker 1: how they play. I don't know if it was say
• 48:33
Speaker 1: a team that epitomizes that more than the Pittsburgh Steelers
• 48:36
  Speaker 1: of Mike Tomlin.
• 48:37
Speaker 4: Yeah, just man, look at a no blink. They're not
• 48:39
Speaker 4: fearful of anything. They take on all the challenges. You
• 48:42
Speaker 4: don't hear many excuses coming from their end, and they
• 48:44
Speaker 4: just kind of play that way like it is ugly.
• 48:47
Speaker 4: It's kind of like that muckball. They did talk about it,
• 48:49
Speaker 4: but they kind of embrace it. And I think in
• 48:51
Speaker 4: that city you can do it because Pittsburgh they're bottom
• 48:54
Speaker 4: line city and you talk about just winning no matter
• 48:57
Speaker 4: what it looks like, don't worry about style points. They
• 49:00
Speaker 4: do it, but they're going to mess around and have
• 49:02
Speaker 4: enough confidence where everyone else around them is going to
• 49:05
Speaker 4: They're going to give wrap them the division and we're
• 49:07
Speaker 4: gonna look up. They're gonna be a top four seed
• 49:10
Speaker 4: and everyone's gonna say, how were they able to get
• 49:13
Speaker 4: this done without the offensive efficiency that you would expect
• 49:16
Speaker 4: a high end team to have.
• 49:18
Speaker 2: You guys play ping pong, by the way, Oh yeah, I.
• 49:20
Speaker 3: Can play a little ping fairy.
• 49:21
Speaker 1: Well yeah, yeah, I knew Bucky hand eye.
• 49:24
Speaker 2: You know you can tell Boys and Girls Club. Boys
• 49:27
  Speaker 2: and girls play.
• 49:28
Speaker 1: The Boys and Girls Club too. It was just I
• 49:31
Speaker 1: think it might have been when I was growing up, though,
• 49:32
Speaker 1: I think it might even have just been the boys club.
• 49:34
Speaker 2: That's how it was. They boys.
• 49:42
Speaker 1: But do you remember, I mean you've played against Buck,
• 49:45
Speaker 1: you know, you play against those guys. Were like, I'm
• 49:48
Speaker 1: spinning it and I'm cutting it and then the guy
• 49:50
Speaker 1: on the other side just go think think your men
• 49:52
Speaker 1: hit it back over, just waiting for you to hit
• 49:54
Speaker 1: it off the table, hit it into the net.
• 49:55
Speaker 2: That's all I done. That's the Pittsburgh Steelers in this division.
• 49:58
Speaker 5: That's to be fun, kid, fun.
• 50:01
Speaker 1: We're just gonna get it over the net. Eventually, you're
• 50:03
Speaker 1: gonna try and do something cute. You're gonna try and
• 50:05
Speaker 1: slam it and you're gonna miss. You're gonna try and
• 50:07
Speaker 1: put some backspen. You're gonna hit the net, and the
• 50:09
  Speaker 1: Steelers just.
• 50:09
Speaker 2: Good, think think, think, that's it. What's the score? Oh,
• 50:12
  Speaker 2: twenty one sixteen?
• 50:14
  Speaker 3: See later?
• 50:14
  Speaker 2: Good game?
• 50:16
  Speaker 5: All right?
• 50:17
Speaker 1: Anything else you guys want to have from these other games?
• 50:19
Speaker 1: We've got Colts, Pats, Jets, Raiders, let's not do that, Titans, Bucks, Giants, Cowboys.
• 50:24
Speaker 2: Anything you want to hit.
• 50:25
Speaker 5: On Ceedee Lamb. I mean, I think anybody who questioned
• 50:30
Speaker 5: Ceedee Lamb's you know, status as a number one wide
• 50:33
Speaker 5: receiver in this league earlier in the year is I
• 50:36
Speaker 5: think the only dude since nineteen seventy that's had three
• 50:39
Speaker 5: consecutive games of ten or more catches, one hundred and
• 50:41
Speaker 5: fifty more receiving yards, and plus he ran one in
• 50:44
Speaker 5: They they're obviously emphasizing getting him the football, which pays off.
• 50:49
Speaker 5: He's had some of the it has been the most
• 50:51
Speaker 5: productive stretch of any Cowboys receiver in Cowboys franchise history.
• 50:54
Speaker 5: It has some pretty good ones, I think. So it's
• 50:58
Speaker 5: that they're they're rocket and and obviously the Giants are
• 51:01
  Speaker 5: in major trouble.
• 51:03
Speaker 1: Yeah, they got some work to do. Uh, it's kind
• 51:06
Speaker 1: of a mess. Buck, Colts, Patriots, Mac Jones.
• 51:09
  Speaker 2: I think that's it.
• 51:10
  Speaker 1: I mean, as we're hasn't been announced, i'd be shocked
• 51:12
Speaker 1: if he's starting next week.
• 51:14
Speaker 4: Man, just just so bad, like how did it go
• 51:16
Speaker 4: so interaction like just Bill, yeah, yeah, just all bad.
• 51:22
Speaker 4: And just to hear him afterwards, just man, he just
• 51:25
Speaker 4: sounds like the dog has been beaten to a pulp.
• 51:29
Speaker 3: You know, it just doesn't have any confidence.
• 51:30
Speaker 4: And to think that he was a pro Bowl player,
• 51:32
Speaker 4: a player that had him in the playoffs as a rookie,
• 51:34
Speaker 4: and to see where he's at now is look, man,
• 51:37
  Speaker 4: it's almost it's a sad state of affairs. But it's
• 51:39
Speaker 4: a sad state of affairs in New England because you
• 51:41
Speaker 4: see him team and.
• 51:43
Speaker 5: This is well, look, you've got guys, you've got the
• 51:45
Speaker 5: fans clamoring for Will Greer to start.
• 51:48
Speaker 1: Yeah, well listen, listen, listen, just for somebody. The guy's
• 51:51
Speaker 1: barely played as somebody who's grown up in San Diego,
• 51:55
Speaker 1: where our only professional sports team is the San Diego Padres,
• 51:58
Speaker 1: who've never won a World Series. I'm not going to
• 52:01
Speaker 1: cry a river for anyone in New England for what
• 52:04
Speaker 1: they've got to experience over these years. I don't care
• 52:06
Speaker 1: what sport is. They went like zillion titles and every
• 52:09
Speaker 1: single they were like they're okay, they can. This is
• 52:12
Speaker 1: what the rest of the world has to feel like
• 52:13
Speaker 1: when these these two win, you know, two wins starts.
• 52:16
Speaker 1: That's real life, baby, That's what the rest of the
• 52:18
Speaker 1: league had over the last thirty years. You're just getting
• 52:21
Speaker 1: a little taste of it.
• 52:22
  Speaker 3: You know.
• 52:22
Speaker 1: I struggle to find any uh uh, any sympathy for
• 52:26
Speaker 1: for all the success that they've had up there.
• 52:28
Speaker 2: But it is ugly. It is not an easy watch.
• 52:31
Speaker 3: So yeah, so bad. It's just so amazing to see
• 52:33
  Speaker 3: them may.
• 52:34
Speaker 1: Antonio Pierce buck Antonio Pierce hats off Man two.
• 52:38
Speaker 2: And oh how about that.
• 52:40
Speaker 4: I bet at high school coach just a few years ago,
• 52:42
Speaker 4: long probably down the road. He's been able to bounce
• 52:45
Speaker 4: from dad to take it over the Raiders and got
• 52:48
Speaker 4: them going to and oh, given victory mondays.
• 52:50
Speaker 1: You know what I was thinking of is like, who
• 52:53
Speaker 1: was it when they were going to be blue collar
• 52:56
Speaker 1: and they wore like, uh, they were preaching they were
• 52:59
Speaker 1: going to be collar and they wore like the trucker
• 53:01
Speaker 1: shirts or whatever they had their name.
• 53:03
Speaker 3: Jim Harbaugh did that once, Jim, thank you.
• 53:06
Speaker 1: Yes Harbaugh did that, absolutely, yes, he had that those
• 53:10
Speaker 1: those shirts. Because I was thinking if I was Antonio Pierce.
• 53:12
Speaker 1: I will wear a shirt that just says not Josh,
• 53:14
  Speaker 1: that's it.
• 53:15
  Speaker 2: That's all.
• 53:15
Speaker 1: That's all it would say, because that seems to be
• 53:18
  Speaker 1: like that's the that's the key, you know, I don't
• 53:22
Speaker 1: know what, I don't know. Josh McDaniels. It seems like
• 53:24
Speaker 1: a nice enough guy when I've been around him. But man,
• 53:27
Speaker 1: they were I've never seen a group that was happy
• 53:29
Speaker 1: to have somebody not care as that is. And that
• 53:31
Speaker 1: seems like it was coaching and uh and players and
• 53:35
Speaker 1: it seems like they're playing like they're not a great team,
• 53:37
Speaker 1: they're not super talented, but they're hanging in there. They're
• 53:39
Speaker 1: in the mix in AFC.
• 53:41
Speaker 4: Yeah, and you talk about a team just making it
• 53:43
Speaker 4: about the players on offense, just making it about the players.
• 53:45
Speaker 3: They even give it to Josh Jacobs, DeVante.
• 53:47
Speaker 4: Adams how to Renfro has been brought back into the
• 53:49
Speaker 4: mix in terms of being able to get involved and
• 53:51
Speaker 4: get on the field, and and O'Connell has done a
• 53:53
Speaker 4: really good job of just managing the game. Nice to
• 53:56
Speaker 4: road to Michael Mara for a touchdown. So yeah, they're
• 53:59
Speaker 4: able to get it. So, I mean, here they are
• 54:00
Speaker 4: with five and six six and five whatever they are.
• 54:03
Speaker 4: They kind of in the conversation.
• 54:05
  Speaker 2: Yep, no doubt.
• 54:06
Speaker 1: All right, Well, we've got four more shows coming your
• 54:08
