- 0:00Half and development in a person to be play craft to keep what I
- 0:05am come whatever rabbi come whatever parents meet success
- 0:11and different things. Now he says the last one was
- 0:13discussed last week, which was half a cost, which is anger and
- 0:17keep a dog keep it that being someone who's difficult someone
- 0:21was particular someone who's a little bit, you know, gets upset
- 0:23easily. So he brings them to my mom says
- 0:27I'm the alpha of the colony thought yes, even though
- 0:32typically when it comes to character traits, the rulers go
- 0:35with the middle of the road. That's true in general when it
- 0:38comes to cost and it comes to anger other extreme of our cost
- 0:43Meda and I it's inherently a bad Meda out of them all very bad.
- 0:48But I will Adam she the person should go the opposite extreme
- 0:55and you know the character trait you should have somewhere down
- 0:57the middle when it comes to anger.
- 0:59You should be 100% pole opposite of anger.
- 1:02And then you have to train yourself, he says figure out
- 1:08ways to train yourself to not get angry.
- 1:11And what does that mean? That means you need to create a
- 1:14wiring and a mechanism. But someone realizes that they
- 1:18have a flaw, that they have something that they're prone to
- 1:20do. The system is you have to be
- 1:22able to undo it. The only way to undo it is to
- 1:24create a new wiring. A new wiring means you set
- 1:28yourself up a plan. You know, whenever, whenever we
- 1:31get angry, we're not happy about getting angry.
- 1:33That's a sure. And after the fact, we're upset
- 1:34about it. So what's going to stop the next
- 1:36time? What's going to stop the next
- 1:37time is, is if you have some sort of system or a plan how to
- 1:41handle it. Typically that plan means a
- 1:44mechanism, meaning if someone says something to you that gets
- 1:47you upset, you have a weight sale.
- 1:49Wait a second. I pause.
- 1:51I ignore them. I don't consider that words
- 1:54worth anything. I give myself a second to think.
- 1:58I call someone to discuss it, whatever may be come with some
- 2:01system to slow it down. And it's hard to tell you.
- 2:05We need to train. When it comes to anger
- 2:07specifically, you need to call up a new plan so you don't
- 2:10repeat the same mistake. Yes, of course none of us like
- 2:13that mistake. And of course, none of us are
- 2:15proud of it. But that's not enough because I
- 2:18won't start the next time or stops the next time with these
- 2:20things. There's a different way toward
- 2:23the finish line that's needed when it comes to anger.
- 2:25And he says I'll feel about Davosha.
- 2:28And the big thing with anger is because it's a negative topic
- 2:30and it's a problematic 1, even if you have an excuse.
- 2:34And often times people do have excuses to get angry.
- 2:37Even if you have excuses, you still don't get angry.
- 2:40I noticed something and that is a certain people who are often
- 2:44angry. It's one thing you tell them you
- 2:46try working them or they try working themselves not to be
- 2:48angry. But then there's a lot of times
- 2:50and then they get angry and it seems like it seems valid, seems
- 2:54like it makes sense. And you forget exactly like
- 2:57what's wrong with what they're doing.
- 2:59They have right for this, They have right for this reaction.
- 3:02And then you think of yourself, that's true, 1000% true.
- 3:05But if you would look at another person who never gets angry,
- 3:09you'd find that a lot of scenarios that could be triggers
- 3:14don't happen for that other soft person.
- 3:17That's an easy person. Which means anger is not just an
- 3:20open child case. Should they do it?
- 3:22Should not do it. And then all the cases where
- 3:24they have a person's right to get angry.
- 3:25You know what? His right to get angry.
- 3:28Nothing to say about that one. Yeah, we're going to talk to him
- 3:31off the ledge. When it comes to the crazy ones,
- 3:33we're going to talk to him the ledge when he's overdoing it.
- 3:36But the ones that make sense, Hey, they didn't invite him.
- 3:38Hey, they insulted him. Wow.
- 3:40They ignored him, someone made him look bad, all those things.
- 3:43Class is a case where as a right to get angry, you have nothing
- 3:46to say there. But you realize that someone who
- 3:49thinks differently, someone who thinks that anger is a problem
- 3:53and realizes and lives his life without that me, that that
- 3:56person will have multiple examples in his own life.
- 4:00Millions on his own life where he had a chance to get angry and
- 4:04he didn't. And it's not just should you or
- 4:06shouldn't you? Is it fair or is it valid or not
- 4:08valid? Even in cases where it's valid
- 4:11to get angry, you have to tell yourself it may be valid and
- 4:14might be right. It might be technically in my
- 4:17mind fair that I'm getting angry now.
- 4:19That does not make a difference. If I were a person that held an
- 4:23anger is a bad thing. I want to respond these cases as
- 4:26well. I would say to myself, I'm going
- 4:28to be that guy who is going to ignore all those triggers and
- 4:32you're a whole totally different person.
- 4:33And when you end up become, and it's the beauty of it, easier
- 4:38person to be around because there's someone who's often
- 4:41anger, no matter what, there's always something.
- 4:44And even if you know, you only scale it down to the valid
- 4:47excuses, there's a lot of valid excuses to get angry.
- 4:50Also it could be anything driving, talking, buy a meal in
- 4:55a shul, in office, anything in life can get people angry and
- 4:59they can be valid as juices. Not the even valid crazy ones.
- 5:03Valid right? You walk in front of a person
- 5:06and they're just let's say non Jew in the city and you're not
- 5:09sure what you did wrong. And they they they yell at you
- 5:11because you cut them all for you bumped into them, all those
- 5:13things and you just get tense and they have a right to get
- 5:16upset with you technically speaking as you bumped into
- 5:17them. But if they're not angry people
- 5:20and they're not that way, they just move on and it just goes on
- 5:23and life just moves on as normal.
- 5:25And then it turns out all those valid excuses as well are also
- 5:29nothing. A person could be living life
- 5:31with a mating triggers, valid triggers, or they could be
- 5:35living life easy. And what happens is the people
- 5:37around you don't have to worry about you as much.
- 5:40People around you don't have to be conscious of you as much in a
- 5:42serious way, in a tense way. And over time you become the
- 5:46person that they wish they had around.
- 5:48Whereas the other option, sadly, as the kind of person you don't
- 5:52want to have around because it's very hard to deal with.
- 5:54It's hard to be uptight all the time and it's hard to be on
- 5:56your, you know, best behavior all the time.
- 5:58You know it is with someone scary in the room the same thing
- 6:01as you. As someone who's often angry in
- 6:03the room, it's the exact same thing.
- 6:05They put you in a tense state and everything changes.
- 6:08Whereas if you're easy and you start to get rid of the invalid
- 6:12anger or even the valid anger, you become a person who's
- 6:15comfortable to be around. That doesn't mean you're a
- 6:17person that they run over. The reality is over time, even
- 6:22though you don't get angry and you don't react, you don't
- 6:24respond, which in America is called a pushover.
- 6:27No, no, no. When you become actually is a
- 6:30more likable person and people don't realize this all the time,
- 6:34you get your way way more often than the guy who gets angry.
- 6:39The guy who gets angry is controlling the show.
- 6:41He's making a tense room and he's getting his outcome.
- 6:44Technically speaking, maybe he'll get served 1st and I'll
- 6:47get responded to 1st and people will make sure to greet him
- 6:50first and all that. But that's all in a tense state.
- 6:54That's not what they want to do and therefore if they can get
- 6:57around it, they would. And if he lost any level of
- 7:00prestige, they would have now ignore him.
- 7:02And if his wealth went down, his name went down or whatever,
- 7:07maybe you went down, he's nothing.
- 7:09Because when you're controlling the show through your reaction
- 7:13and through your tent state, you're controlling the show.
- 7:16What happens is you create an image that people have to play
- 7:19into, but the moment your control goes out the window
- 7:23because people don't care about your control, whether because
- 7:26the person is considered a crazy person or because he doesn't
- 7:28have the wealth he used to have all that stuff.
- 7:30Now all of a sudden, nothing doing, no one's recognizing
- 7:34whereas or as a regular person who's just easy, then people are
- 7:38good to him regardless of any other stature because of the
- 7:42fact that it's not about the state that he controlled.
- 7:45It's rather about the state that you as a people want to treat
- 7:49him with. That's how it depends on, say,
- 7:51if a person is someone who's often angry, they can originally
- 7:55be a person who controls the room.
- 7:57Eventually they're a person who loses the room.
- 8:00Whereas you're a person is always easy, then from the
- 8:03beginning the room likes you and the room is good with you.
- 8:06What about the fact that once in a while you need to get angry?
- 8:08Whatever. Like any angry on principle.
- 8:12Good. Can I tell?
- 8:13You one thing for me firstly, I'm not afraid to share with
- 8:15everyone if somebody cheats or is dishonest or takes advantage
- 8:22like scams, you how could you not get angry Good.
- 8:26It goes against like your your your core.
- 8:28You go do that. How could somebody steal?
- 8:30You're very hurt. Steal from you or steal in
- 8:33general? He's talking about from me,
- 8:36somebody ripped you over, OK. I mean, it's your question and
- 8:39you're right to a degree, I think, which means if it's about
- 8:43principle, then it should be the exact same perspective whether
- 8:47it was to you or it's somebody else, other people too.
- 8:50Other people, OK. So then then it's playing
- 8:54principle fine if you if it's the same reaction, you and
- 8:56someone else and it's playing principle.
- 8:58And then the goal should be you don't hold to the person.
- 9:01It's not anger, sorry. You don't hold to the person,
- 9:04you don't agree with him. You maybe even tell us the
- 9:07people keep away from him. You tell them off or that's
- 9:11fine, but your own burning Med, that's something else.
- 9:15That's a question mark. And there will only be doable if
- 9:18you're doing it for the sake of other people's honor or you say
- 9:20for the sake of a Shem's honor, stuff like that.
- 9:23You're upset now again, you have to blend it.
- 9:26Sometimes we get angry in those situations.
- 9:28How does this guy get to live with it?
- 9:29How is it fair that the community looks like I'm a
- 9:31decent guy and he's cheating people?
- 9:33That's already now moving over to a different zone and that's
- 9:36already your own personal. I can't believe I'm a regular
- 9:40guy and this guy's a big deal and he's nobody and stuff like
- 9:42that. And I can't believe he's able to
- 9:44marry over his kids and normally and people impressed by him and
- 9:47they give him an all the and he doesn't serve anything into
- 9:50that's right now you're blending on.
- 9:52I don't really like the fact that he's more than me and stuff
- 9:54like that. That's already personal.
- 9:56Leave that out plain principle. You absolutely have a right to
- 10:01say about him at times and not hold of him.
- 10:04Tell your family to keep away all that stuff and even to yell.
- 10:08Tell him off. But the personal anger usually
- 10:11comes, if you look at it closely, usually comes from a
- 10:14certain inborn feeling and you have which is it's not really
- 10:18fair and proper what's going on in the world.
- 10:20Compare that to me type. That's already anger.
- 10:23That's already his story on principle.
- 10:25Talk about him to tell him off to put him down.
- 10:28That's something that's definitely doable if it's the
- 10:31right thing. Did it personally.
- 10:32Have to do let's say somebody would eat she.
- 10:34Did you? Yeah.
- 10:35Yeah. Christian, the anger is coming
- 10:37from the fact that you got wronged.
- 10:38Fine, you're entitled to be upset.
- 10:40I'm not trying to make you into it.
- 10:43You know he thought to be upset, but the extra feeling is plain
- 10:46anger. It's not a principle.
- 10:47It's not a principle. Principle is the fact that
- 10:50you're upset at him that be that he shouldn't he shouldn't exist
- 10:53in that state. Your own feeling is something
- 10:56that's personal and that's not that that's already going beyond
- 10:59principle. You have a right to have
- 11:01principle, but the emotion that you're talking about is separate
- 11:04and it's not not loved off go Good thing.
- 11:06Somebody does cheat you, so you you're about to be angry about
- 11:10the principle, but not about the fact that you got wrong. 100%,
- 11:14that's the idea. Now that's a high level, of
- 11:16course a high level. But the guy, the guy didn't
- 11:18wrong you bought L Hashem wrong you not in.
- 11:21Right, right, right. The guy that's correct.
- 11:24Exactly. Alan's right.
- 11:26The perspective really we know is is that God was, won't be.
- 11:29I was behind this. Listen, I'll tell you honest
- 11:32truth. I had something I was dealing
- 11:33with a little while ago and someone was frustrating me very
- 11:36much and I had to like slowly let go, let go, let go as it
- 11:41wasn't him, it was only Hashem. It was only Hashem and was it
- 11:44was a challenge by it? Of course.
- 11:46Was I upset by it? For sure.
- 11:48Did I get upset every time I heard this person's name and
- 11:51people making a big deal about him and the guys?
- 11:53Am I Oz little bit of a fraud? Sure I was.
- 11:55We have to figure out a way to handle that.
- 11:58Your job in this type of area is to water it down, water it down,
- 12:01water it down, and water down the personal aspects of it,
- 12:05which means you retain, if we're going to keep the discipline,
- 12:08you retain the disapproval state.
- 12:10You retain the fact that you do not hold of him and you don't
- 12:13believe what he's doing, and maybe you're not going to order
- 12:15him the same way and you don't agree with the fact that people
- 12:18are honoring, making a big deal about him.
- 12:20All those perspectives are right, valid and proper.
- 12:25It is proper, not the hold of certain people if they're not
- 12:28good, it's actually the right thing to do.
- 12:31It's not called anger. It's this is this is the proper
- 12:33thought process. It's the right thing to do to
- 12:36have some people on your list. And you say that's not a person
- 12:40that we deal with. That's not a person that hold
- 12:41up. That's not a person that want my
- 12:43kids to marry. That's true.
- 12:44It's the right thing. That's not anger.
- 12:47That's opinion and that's perspective.
- 12:49And that's a good person and a great person has that without
- 12:53getting emotional at all. The emotion, it's personal.
- 12:57If you can get emotional, it's not personal.
- 12:59It's either defending yourself, defending your family member, or
- 13:03defending God. That is fine.
- 13:05But remember, if it's defending yourself, that's really anger.
- 13:08If it's really anger, it's this problem.
- 13:09That's not disable, that's defense, right?
- 13:11I'll go job more than I shouldn't get angry.
- 13:14A lot of friends with us, I shouldn't get angry.
- 13:16I shouldn't get angry because it's defending God's honor and
- 13:19we should have been or got angry and we know that that says he
- 13:21forgot things when he got angry. Is there a place for anger?
- 13:25It's a place for anger. Defending somebody's honor,
- 13:29defending God's honor, defending your parents honor is a place
- 13:32there for even that is few and far between and that has to be
- 13:37completely pure. That doesn't mean that we're
- 13:39going to be an Angel. I'm not trying to expect Angel
- 13:42mentality, but it does mean that this to me does something you
- 13:45want out of your system and you need to wait around it.
- 13:48And the way around it is I've got a hold of them.
- 13:50I don't agree with them. They shouldn't be in our
- 13:52position. That's what I hold.
- 13:54But at the same time, they're not going to control my emotions
- 13:58and I'm going to not going to use my negative emotions as a
- 14:00means to control the room. I'm going to leave my emotions
- 14:04by the door When it comes to other people.
- 14:06Is it difficult? Very.
- 14:08Is it hard to come by? Absolutely is.
- 14:10But at the same time, you become a person who is not a person.
- 14:15Were you so disciplined at home? Was I disciplined personally at
- 14:18home? It so happens to be, for
- 14:19whatever reason, that I was very, very, very, very
- 14:23infrequently disciplined. I just happened to be.
- 14:25I'm the 7th kid and I there, they came between the cracks and
- 14:28I was a goody goody, whatever it is.
- 14:30I wasn't disciplined and my parents weren't the discipline
- 14:32type. Do I hold the discipline?
- 14:34Yeah. Is that anger?
- 14:35No, discipline is not anger. Even when he brings down.
- 14:38Of course, we know parents have to get upset at the children's
- 14:41group and grandparents. Whatever.
- 14:43A tear. Wow, huh.
- 14:45You have to care, but you have to sketch.
- 14:48In those scenarios. It brings down sketch to anger,
- 14:51which means, and this is a real major thing, when a person, a
- 14:54parent reacts to a child out of anger, that's a big problem.
- 14:59When a parent reacts to a child and they display anger, but they
- 15:02really come perfect. The perfect discipline.
- 15:06The home is at times to display anger, but to be calm and sight.
- 15:11When I've seen this and I've seen this close, close to me,
- 15:15and that is when parents can upset their children and it
- 15:18seems like it's a fight. There should never be a fight
- 15:22between a parent and a child, even if it's through the means
- 15:25of this. What I mean fight, you're not
- 15:27equals. You're not equals.
- 15:28You're on top, they're on bottom.
- 15:30I don't care if if kids call their parents by their first
- 15:33names in America. Doesn't make a difference.
- 15:35I don't care if kids treat parents a certain way today.
- 15:37You're not equals and therefore you should never be insulted by
- 15:41your child. You're not equals.
- 15:43You should never be personally upset by your little child.
- 15:45You're not equals and never you shouldn't be have that anger.
- 15:48That emotion shouldn't exist. You should be disappointed.
- 15:51You should display discipline. You should display being at
- 15:55times upset. But anger, As if I'm emotionally
- 15:57upset because they hurt me. They're not your equal.
- 16:00They're not on par with you. They're beneath you as a
- 16:03different wavelength and different generation.
- 16:05And when parents get angry and therefore insulted by their
- 16:09children, and they give out the emotion that comes from insult,
- 16:13that is the wrong emotion. A child should never feel the
- 16:16emotion of having insulted their parents, even if they insult
- 16:20their parents. Something happened to me a
- 16:22couple days ago at my house. One of my kids said something
- 16:25and I was literally for a second or more than a second, I was
- 16:28insulted, insulted. And my wife told me she was
- 16:32right. She says do not react.
- 16:34I said, what do you mean if I don't react then I'm letting
- 16:37this go and how can I let this go?
- 16:40She says, I'm telling you right now, don't react right.
- 16:42You have to be. You have to be disciplined, but
- 16:45don't react. OK.
- 16:47And trust me, I had to leave the class.
- 16:49I didn't react. I walked out of the house and
- 16:52fine, he got, they got their discipline.
- 16:55At the end of the day, the discipline was very clear.
- 16:58The discipline was way more than I would have given with that
- 17:00reaction. But it was done without that
- 17:02emotion. And that for me was difficult to
- 17:04happen to be. I had to leave any house.
- 17:06So it wasn't, you know, it would have been a disaster.
- 17:08You run, you get upset, and then you run out his doors.
- 17:10Fine, but technically speaking, she pulled the right move and it
- 17:14was a far stronger discipline than I would have given in the
- 17:18moment, and also far more effective.
- 17:20I'm not saying it works every time, but I am saying the
- 17:23emotion of anger is an emotion that should not be in our
- 17:26system, but we can help ourselves instead.
- 17:29You want to get upset at times. You can display discipline at
- 17:31times. You can do all that.
- 17:33You do not want to control the room through emotion because the
- 17:38way the world works is the moment they don't need you, the
- 17:41moment they don't care for that person and they get rid of that
- 17:43person. Because the emotion that
- 17:46controls the room is an emotion that's difficult to be around.
- 17:49Whereas the one that is based on discipline and the mind and a
- 17:54mature approach, that one is not emotion.
- 17:58That's the mind and that is crazy by 5.
- 18:00Stop with this.
