Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: All right, it's Wayne Dan. I gotta tell you. Literally,
- 0:03Speaker 1: we have talked about her coming in studio for probably
- 0:07Speaker 1: what a good year too? Oh okay two years. Dash
- 0:10Speaker 1: should made time for us today. Thank you for being here.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I appreciate it, of course. And the funny thing is
- 0:17Speaker 1: football just came about in the building and we were
- 0:20Speaker 1: talking and you're like, I'm a big Chiefs fan because
- 0:23Speaker 1: who's got so let's start. Obviously you have some swiftye
- 0:28Speaker 1: and you to be celebrated news like that.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Uh, they call me trailer swift on the streets, so
- 0:33Speaker 2: people have said.
- 0:34Speaker 3: That, Yeah, I'm not hilarious.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I'm making merch right now. I think it's so funny.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Run with it, right, I'll give you one just makes
- 0:44Speaker 2: a tank top only if it's crop girl. Yeah, girl,
- 0:47Speaker 2: come on as a fet so we'll talk music and
- 0:50Speaker 2: we'll talk to you being an artist in a second,
- 0:52Speaker 2: as a music fan.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Yeah, did you nerd out Taylor's news yesterday? Yeah?
- 0:58Speaker 2: Well, okay, my mom is the one that called me.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I was in Whole Foods shopping and she was like,
- 1:02Speaker 2: did you hear? And I was like, what are you
- 1:03Speaker 2: talking about? She's like, Taylor gon't engaged and I was like, what, that's.
- 1:07Speaker 3: The cash register and the girl on who's checking me out?
- 1:09Speaker 1: I was like wait what? And I was like, oh
- 1:11Speaker 1: my god.
- 1:11Speaker 2: It was like the most wholesome moment of like girlhood,
- 1:13Speaker 2: just like all freaking out.
- 1:14Speaker 3: It was cute. So yeah, I did.
- 1:16Speaker 1: So let me ask you, as somebody who now is
- 1:18Speaker 1: your own artist and you're inspiring another generation of artists
- 1:23Speaker 1: behind you, what is it about Taylor Swift that's so
- 1:26Speaker 1: appealing Because a lot of people are just fans, right,
- 1:28Speaker 1: but now you understand multiple sides of the business. Yeah,
- 1:30Speaker 1: plus you're fans, So what is it about Taylor that
- 1:32Speaker 1: you're like? Well?
- 1:34Speaker 2: As a kid, I loved her songwriting and her how
- 1:37Speaker 2: she just showed up in the world as like such
- 1:39Speaker 2: a role model for young women, and that's why I
- 1:41Speaker 2: was drawn to her. But now as someone who's in
- 1:43Speaker 2: the business who understands, like, you know, having a label
- 1:46Speaker 2: deal and working radio and publishing and like all the
- 1:50Speaker 2: different sides of the music world that aren't you can't.
- 1:54Speaker 2: You don't know that until you're actually doing it. I
- 1:56Speaker 2: respect her so much as a businesswoman as a CEO.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I've watched like all her documentaries and.
- 2:02Speaker 3: She's a genius.
- 2:03Speaker 2: That woman is so smart and she's such a boss,
- 2:06Speaker 2: and I'm like, oh, I want to be like that.
- 2:08Speaker 2: So I feel like I've taken like the business side
- 2:10Speaker 2: of me, like really admires her for that too.
- 2:12Speaker 1: What are some pieces, because obviously being inspired by somebody
- 2:15Speaker 1: means they give you ideas on how to execute for you. Yeah,
- 2:19Speaker 1: so what are behind the scenes things that fans may
- 2:22Speaker 1: have zero clue about that, Like you give attention to
- 2:25Speaker 1: because you saw Taylor do something and you're like, hey,
- 2:28Speaker 1: I want to have my hands more on that.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Well, one thing is she has like this is like
- 2:32Speaker 2: kind of corporate meeting. I don't know how often she
- 2:35Speaker 2: does it, but like both her parents are on the board.
- 2:37Speaker 2: It's a board meeting, and she has like this really
- 2:39Speaker 2: core meeting. However often she does it, but it's all
- 2:43Speaker 2: like big ideas and they go from the small sottle
- 2:45Speaker 2: details to like, hey, this is the next album. This
- 2:48Speaker 2: is why I want to start teasing it, and it's
- 2:49Speaker 2: just like everyone knows everything and it's in like this
- 2:52Speaker 2: one bubble. And she also has her own like management
- 2:54Speaker 2: company that just manages her thirteen management and she owns
- 2:58Speaker 2: that company, which is gene it's just like little things
- 3:01Speaker 2: like that that I'm like, well duh, but usually that's
- 3:04Speaker 2: not how the artist works, which doesn't really make sense.
- 3:07Speaker 2: But you can do whatever the hell you want because
- 3:08Speaker 2: you are the CEO as the artist.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's really interesting.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Plus you can pay yourself.
- 3:13Speaker 3: You can pay yourself.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Listen with checks on checks on Buck's. Let's rewind things
- 3:20Speaker 1: because obviously you had a great CMA fest. We saw
- 3:23Speaker 1: the bar take over there, but we haven't talked before,
- 3:26Speaker 1: so we're going to rewind things back. Let's take it
- 3:28Speaker 1: as things started to take off for you, because it
- 3:32Speaker 1: literally like Austin went from a song that oh oh,
- 3:36Speaker 1: that's that TikTok song, yeah, to like all over radio,
- 3:39Speaker 1: all over social media. What was that rise like for you?
- 3:43Speaker 1: And was it a little terrifying because thanks to social
- 3:45Speaker 1: media that fire burns fast now?
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it was insane. It was so surreal. For context,
- 3:51Speaker 2: I've been chasing this since I was eight years old.
- 3:53Speaker 2: That's when I started gigging and writing songs and all
- 3:54Speaker 2: that stuff. And to have a song do what it
- 3:57Speaker 2: did on social media and then transfer so beautifully over
- 4:02Speaker 2: to like the real world of music was like my
- 4:06Speaker 2: dream coming true. Times ten, and like the fact that
- 4:09Speaker 2: it went so international so fast was also a crazy
- 4:12Speaker 2: part of it because before I was even touring in America,
- 4:15Speaker 2: I was out in Europe, in Australia and New Zealand
- 4:18Speaker 2: and like doing that whole thing, which usually takes years
- 4:20Speaker 2: and years and years, especially for country.
- 4:22Speaker 3: People to get to So that was also wild.
- 4:25Speaker 2: And I was just like thrown into it and I
- 4:26Speaker 2: was like, let's do this thing, like I'm so ready
- 4:29Speaker 2: for it.
- 4:29Speaker 3: It was wild.
- 4:30Speaker 1: The only thing that I hate about like TikTok I
- 4:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna use the word TikTok artists is that oh god,
- 4:39Speaker 1: you get well, there's like a negative contentsation. Yeah, just
- 4:42Speaker 1: because somebody may have discovered you there or like that's
- 4:46Speaker 1: the gas was already there, you just needed the fire
- 4:47Speaker 1: to be lit. It's almost like you get pigeonholed there.
- 4:53Speaker 1: How have you combatd that? Like, how have you been
- 4:55Speaker 1: like well, no, hang on, that's that's what opened the door.
- 4:58Speaker 1: But like the rest of the house has made hits. Yeah,
- 5:00Speaker 1: I know.
- 5:00Speaker 2: It's so frustrating being like, oh, you're that TikTok artist
- 5:03Speaker 2: and I'm like shut up, like no, that's it's a
- 5:06Speaker 2: free marketing tool, like I would be stupid.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Not to be using it. Whatever.
- 5:09Speaker 2: I could go on for hours about that, but no,
- 5:12Speaker 2: I think for me, I can't control what people say
- 5:15Speaker 2: about me. I can laugh at it and not be
- 5:17Speaker 2: affected by it. But I think for me, like I
- 5:20Speaker 2: always consider myself a songwriter first and foremost, and so
- 5:22Speaker 2: putting out the next single not this party, and being like, well,
- 5:26Speaker 2: what about this one? My TikTok artist now and what
- 5:28Speaker 2: about this song and what about this writing? And like
- 5:30Speaker 2: I think I just like proved myself as like I'm
- 5:32Speaker 2: an artist first and foremost, and like, sorry, I'm good
- 5:35Speaker 2: at social media, sue me, you know. So it just
- 5:38Speaker 2: like kind of backlashed at them if they kept calling
- 5:41Speaker 2: me that. And I don't really get called that anymore,
- 5:42Speaker 2: which is cool.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Which is nice to get past because it's almost like
- 5:46Speaker 1: before social media, there was an American Idol, right, and if
- 5:48Speaker 1: you go an American Idol now you're like, here's American
- 5:51Speaker 1: Idol Champion falls around forever.
- 5:53Speaker 3: I'm an artist, yeah, but then carry Underwood broke out
- 5:56Speaker 3: of that. Yeah, So it just takes time.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I think, honestly, at what point were you like, hey,
- 6:02Speaker 1: this is cool, But like I Don't want to live.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Austin was such a massive song right on social media,
- 6:07Speaker 1: did phenomenally in streaming and on radio as well. At
- 6:11Speaker 1: what point we were like, Okay, this is cool, but
- 6:13Speaker 1: like like let's let's clean the slate off and like,
- 6:16Speaker 1: let's really now that you have the attention, now that
- 6:19Speaker 1: the spotlight's on, like let's.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I think honestly, I started getting comments like she only
- 6:24Speaker 2: has one song, like oh, this song again, and I
- 6:27Speaker 2: think I started kind of listening to that. And also
- 6:29Speaker 2: it was it had been like nine months of just
- 6:31Speaker 2: pushing the shit out of that song, and I was like, Okay,
- 6:34Speaker 2: it's time to put out another banger. And in that time,
- 6:36Speaker 2: I'd put out the rest of that album, the deluxe version,
- 6:39Speaker 2: so like there had been new music in the market,
- 6:41Speaker 2: but like, Austin was such a huge song that the
- 6:44Speaker 2: other songs made like just the tiniest little blip compared
- 6:47Speaker 2: to that. So I was like, okay, what is the
- 6:49Speaker 2: next push? And then not this party? I wrote it
- 6:51Speaker 2: and the whole team was just like, girl, this is
- 6:54Speaker 2: it because it has that you know, it has that
- 6:57Speaker 2: kind of that soul inside to it that I love
- 7:00Speaker 2: writing about that the kind of like the sadness of like,
- 7:03Speaker 2: oh man, I'm not at this party. I want to
- 7:05Speaker 2: be with this home boy in the backseat right now.
- 7:07Speaker 2: But then it has that huge dance beat, which is
- 7:09Speaker 2: so such a big part of who I am as
- 7:11Speaker 2: an artist, and like that line dancing side of me.
- 7:13Speaker 2: So it was kind of the perfect follow up. So
- 7:15Speaker 2: I was just kind of waiting for that and then
- 7:17Speaker 2: it came about and I was like, let's go.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 7:20Speaker 1: When it comes to that, there's so many artists that
- 7:23Speaker 1: love the songwriting part, and like, I don't want to
- 7:26Speaker 1: say they have to perform, but like there's a lot
- 7:29Speaker 1: of people that would be happy just they just want
- 7:31Speaker 1: to write it, let it all out, and then go
- 7:33Speaker 1: let it live while they move on. Is there any
- 7:36Speaker 1: part of you that's like, hey, if I just wrote songs,
- 7:38Speaker 1: that wouldn't be the end of the world for me.
- 7:40Speaker 3: I've thought about that for sure.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Last year I hit kind of a dark spot mentally,
- 7:45Speaker 2: just dealing with all of a sudden being in the
- 7:48Speaker 2: light and it was just a really fast transition and
- 7:51Speaker 2: I was like, oh God, this is a lot and
- 7:54Speaker 2: I definitely thought about that. But I think there's a
- 7:57Speaker 2: part of me that just feels so at home on
- 7:59Speaker 2: stage and the performing that aspects of it, the engagement
- 8:03Speaker 2: of people is just lights me on fire more than
- 8:05Speaker 2: anything else does.
- 8:06Speaker 3: So I don't think I could just be a songwriter ever.
- 8:10Speaker 1: As cool as it is to watch like the TikTok
- 8:12Speaker 1: stuff blow up and then the success to transition to
- 8:15Speaker 1: other avenues of country, what have been some cool moments
- 8:19Speaker 1: for you? And I love to ask this question to
- 8:20Speaker 1: like newer artists, because you're still very much looking through
- 8:25Speaker 1: fan glasses, right even though you're even though you're doing
- 8:28Speaker 1: it and you're creating and you're seeing success and selling
- 8:30Speaker 1: merchant tickets, you're meeting heroes that you've never met. You're
- 8:34Speaker 1: getting dms from other artists and celebrities that are like,
- 8:37Speaker 1: hey girl, I'm coming on the show. I love this whatever.
- 8:39Speaker 1: So give us a couple of moments like that where
- 8:41Speaker 1: you were like, oh my god, get where you got,
- 8:43Speaker 1: where you got to do that, Oh my god, like
- 8:46Speaker 1: your fans would for I think.
- 8:47Speaker 2: The first one was when Keith Urban texted me. I
- 8:50Speaker 2: was in Germany on this like press tour and I
- 8:52Speaker 2: got a text. It was like, hey, d it's Keith
- 8:56Speaker 2: Urban in parentheses and I was like, what is going on,
- 9:00Speaker 2: like freaking out, and he liked Austin and he had
- 9:03Speaker 2: me come play it at cmafes last year two years ago,
- 9:06Speaker 2: and that was that was wild because I mean, it's
- 9:08Speaker 2: freaking Keith her but I'm such a fan of his
- 9:11Speaker 2: and like hanging out with him and his band and
- 9:14Speaker 2: like learning the song how they wanted to do it
- 9:16Speaker 2: was just such a cool way to experience someone else's camp.
- 9:20Speaker 2: And like Keith has been in it forever and I
- 9:22Speaker 2: have not. I'm so new to this scene.
- 9:24Speaker 1: It was.
- 9:25Speaker 2: It was kind of like just like a study period
- 9:28Speaker 2: of like, Okay, this is really cool to see how
- 9:30Speaker 2: you do it and how you interact with your band
- 9:32Speaker 2: and your team, and it was.
- 9:33Speaker 3: It was really cool. So that was the first one
- 9:35Speaker 3: that like geeked me out.
- 9:37Speaker 1: He Keith has always been a guy, Like there's there's
- 9:40Speaker 1: stories like that for you and other female arts as well.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I mean, matter of fact, he had a handful of
- 9:45Speaker 1: Vegas residencies where only female artists open for him. That's
- 9:48Speaker 1: so cool, Like he has he has a like a
- 9:51Speaker 1: sob and maybe it's the dad's side of the girl.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Dad.
- 9:54Speaker 1: He's got like this soft spot for like Hey, I
- 9:56Speaker 1: have a platform. Yeah, and getting a platform is hard,
- 9:59Speaker 1: and sometimes it's a lot harder for a female country artist.
- 10:02Speaker 1: So he's like, step on in, I got you. Yeah,
- 10:05Speaker 1: who are other artists that have maybe befriended you, like,
- 10:08Speaker 1: hey we should tour, Hey we should do a song. Hey,
- 10:11Speaker 1: you know, I love what you're do and like support
- 10:13Speaker 1: from the industry.
- 10:14Speaker 2: I mean, Lady Wilson from the beginning was she texted me.
- 10:17Speaker 2: We met at the CMT Awards and I was that
- 10:19Speaker 2: was my first ward showever, and she came up to
- 10:21Speaker 2: me backstage. It was just like such older sister vibes
- 10:25Speaker 2: Her and Kelsey Vallerini have been total older sisters to me.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Megan too.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Megan and I met a couple months ago and we
- 10:31Speaker 2: Drake Margerite isn't her bus and we just talked all
- 10:34Speaker 2: the shit and it was so healthy.
- 10:36Speaker 3: It was great.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:38Speaker 2: So, I mean, honestly, I just feel like I've been
- 10:40Speaker 2: lifted up by so many like women around me, which
- 10:42Speaker 2: has been really nice. And then Thomas Red of course
- 10:44Speaker 2: bring me out in to her. He's such a buddy,
- 10:46Speaker 2: he's so cool. We met the first time in a session,
- 10:49Speaker 2: which is cool, and so we got to hang out.
- 10:52Speaker 3: I cuss a lot.
- 10:53Speaker 2: He doesn't, so that was a crazy juxtaposition. He's such
- 10:55Speaker 2: a wholesome dad and I was just like.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Yeah, this dude and blah blah blah.
- 11:00Speaker 3: He's just like holy God, and I'm like, oh god.
- 11:02Speaker 3: So that was a very fun session.
- 11:04Speaker 1: His wife wiped down the studio with a left.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Let's clean up after her, and I was like sick.
- 11:11Speaker 1: She's like, did you give her a high five? Here? O?
- 11:17Speaker 1: My god?
- 11:18Speaker 3: He's so sweet.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Success is so is so hard to grab onto right,
- 11:23Speaker 1: and it's and it's kind of like that, it's it's
- 11:26Speaker 1: tough to get to where you want to go, but
- 11:27Speaker 1: it's twice it's tough to stay there. So knowing that
- 11:30Speaker 1: Austin's your first offering the country radio, it saws success.
- 11:33Speaker 1: It had not normal. I'm sure you've heard from anybody
- 11:37Speaker 1: that listen right that that that's not normal to see
- 11:40Speaker 1: success like that out of the gate. What type of
- 11:42Speaker 1: pressure do you put on yourself now? Moving forward? Obviously
- 11:46Speaker 1: we have the next single, not at this party, but
- 11:47Speaker 1: like even past that, Like, hey, we started we started
- 11:51Speaker 1: at ten, so we can't we can't come back at four.
- 11:56Speaker 2: I'm working this new project right now, which I feel
- 11:58Speaker 2: like is kind of like my baby country album because
- 12:01Speaker 2: I had What Happens Now come out, but it was
- 12:04Speaker 2: kind of so lost in the sauce. And now it's like, Okay,
- 12:07Speaker 2: this is like the first like big project in putting
- 12:09Speaker 2: out and I'm not lie. I'm kind of freaking out.
- 12:11Speaker 3: A little bit inside about it because I care.
- 12:13Speaker 2: So much and I really really love these songs and
- 12:15Speaker 2: I just want people to understand the songs.
- 12:17Speaker 3: And love them the way I do.
- 12:20Speaker 2: So that's been a lot of pressure, and not just
- 12:22Speaker 2: like the songs, it's like the music videos and the
- 12:24Speaker 2: cover art and like every little piece of it really
- 12:27Speaker 2: matters to me, like the like of like that music
- 12:29Speaker 2: video was so fun shooting and I it's we shot
- 12:33Speaker 2: it like a week before it came out, so it
- 12:34Speaker 2: was like so running gun and like girl, I pray
- 12:37Speaker 2: and it turns out well because there's not a second
- 12:39Speaker 2: option we have here. So yeah, there's a lot of
- 12:42Speaker 2: pressure on it. But also I think I make the
- 12:44Speaker 2: best art under pressure, So I'm kind of.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Like letting myself just be what it is. I trust myself.
- 12:51Speaker 2: I really do trust myself as an artist, and I'm
- 12:54Speaker 2: just gonna try my best and do the best I can,
- 12:57Speaker 2: and there's not much I can do about that.
- 12:59Speaker 1: So, yeah, I'd like to talk about collabs because everybody
- 13:04Speaker 1: is doing collabs and it's almost like if your album
- 13:07Speaker 1: doesn't have it, like, well, then go back and find one. Right.
- 13:10Speaker 1: It almost feels like that's the native in Nashville right
- 13:12Speaker 1: now as you still are introducing yourself very much to
- 13:15Speaker 1: fans every day, is there any party that's like cool?
- 13:18Speaker 1: Collabs are great, but like we're going to establish who
- 13:21Speaker 1: I am first before like I just start being just
- 13:26Speaker 1: singing hooks for everybody else. Yeah, I that for you.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I haven't done an official collab yet, and I've
- 13:31Speaker 2: kind of been waiting for a very special moment, and
- 13:34Speaker 2: we have some special moments coming up which are which
- 13:38Speaker 2: is exciting, definitely on the horizon. But this first part
- 13:41Speaker 2: of the project that's coming out soon, it's just there's
- 13:44Speaker 2: no collaps. It's just all me, and I feel like
- 13:46Speaker 2: I had to kind of rewind and introduce people to like, Okay,
- 13:49Speaker 2: now you heard my hit, you maybe heard a couple songs,
- 13:51Speaker 2: but let's rewind and let's talk about where I came.
- 13:54Speaker 3: From and why I do what I do. And why
- 13:56Speaker 3: I show up the way I show up because y'all
- 13:58Speaker 3: have no idea. You just call me the boots girl,
- 14:00Speaker 3: you know. So let's back it up.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I have to ask because anybody that watches the video
- 14:06Speaker 1: portion of this interview, there was a big smile, face
- 14:09Speaker 1: was glowing a little bit when you said there's special
- 14:11Speaker 1: things coming. So I have to say, is there a
- 14:14Speaker 1: collab on the horizon. I'm not going to ask you
- 14:16Speaker 1: to name names or give release dates, but like, is
- 14:18Speaker 1: there something set in stone, Like, hey, we are going
- 14:20Speaker 1: to do something and it's going to happen you know
- 14:23Speaker 1: this year?
- 14:24Speaker 3: Yes, not this year?
- 14:25Speaker 1: Got it? But soon yes, Well we can't wait to
- 14:28Speaker 1: see what you and Morgan want. What I was kidding
- 14:33Speaker 1: when I say I always look over at the label
- 14:35Speaker 1: in case of like you will edit that out now
- 14:40Speaker 1: start over.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Hey, Morgan, hit me up, hit me up. I haven't
- 14:43Speaker 3: met yet, but big.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Fan, that's speaking of meeting. You have a name that
- 14:49Speaker 1: compete pronounced more than one way. Oh my god, and
- 14:53Speaker 1: I've heard it all I got but like, here's the thing.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I hate that for you. Yeah, because I've heard other
- 14:58Speaker 1: artists the same and they go, just call me whatever
- 15:01Speaker 1: and it's like, hell, no, that's you're right. Yeah, So
- 15:04Speaker 1: what's what's the worst introduction wise, You've gotten the name
- 15:10Speaker 1: like somebody just butchered the hell out of.
- 15:11Speaker 2: I had an interview the other day and he pronounced
- 15:14Speaker 2: my name three different ways during during the interview, and
- 15:18Speaker 2: I was like, this is impressed. I think he was
- 15:20Speaker 2: freaking out inside obviously, because he could tell.
- 15:22Speaker 1: If we weren't recording, I'd guess the name just to
- 15:24Speaker 1: be a dick. But I'm not going I.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Got I get Daisha all the time, dashaw sometimes, which
- 15:29Speaker 2: makes no goddamn sense. It's dash. People come yeah, just
- 15:38Speaker 2: call me dash. It's so easy.
- 15:40Speaker 1: If you're a French or Italian I can see.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Or like Russian Dasha. But it's not. In middle school,
- 15:49Speaker 3: I got called Dousha. That one hurt. Yeah, So.
- 15:56Speaker 1: That's funny. Tom Martins is still called.
- 15:57Speaker 3: That Is that right? I knew he got along for
- 16:01Speaker 3: some reason.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Trauma speaking of God, trauma, What a great segue. There
- 16:09Speaker 1: is something that Hey and I love to get, like
- 16:13Speaker 1: in the weeds with artists, okay, and speaking to Keith,
- 16:16Speaker 1: he gave us a phenomenal answer. Because mental health for
- 16:20Speaker 1: artists was never a priority it was like, keep Oh,
- 16:24Speaker 1: you made a hit, where's the next one? Give me
- 16:27Speaker 1: the next five?
- 16:28Speaker 3: You're tired?
- 16:29Speaker 1: Yeah, you won the weekend off not in the cool
- 16:31Speaker 1: maybe in December, you're like, but it's like it's April
- 16:39Speaker 1: with As fast as things took off for you, i'd
- 16:42Speaker 1: imagine mental health took a back seat. So you don't
- 16:48Speaker 1: have to share anything you don't want to. But how
- 16:50Speaker 1: did you get to a place and maybe you're not
- 16:52Speaker 1: even there yet, how did you get to a place
- 16:53Speaker 1: where you're like, hey, I have to be a priority
- 16:55Speaker 1: at some point before like I go crazy, and y'all
- 16:59Speaker 1: don't get If I go crazy, y'all don't get paid
- 17:01Speaker 1: no more.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, I got really bad.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Like last September, I was dating this guy who was
- 17:11Speaker 2: like literally my emotional support animal, and then we broke
- 17:16Speaker 2: up and that just sent me off the deep end,
- 17:19Speaker 2: as you can probably imagine. Yea, not even because I
- 17:22Speaker 2: was I mean, I was sad about the breakup, but
- 17:24Speaker 2: it was just like I didn't have anywhere to ground
- 17:26Speaker 2: myself too, and it was really scary. So I learned
- 17:30Speaker 2: that I need I need the groundingness. I need to
- 17:33Speaker 2: go play pick a ball.
- 17:34Speaker 3: With my friends.
- 17:35Speaker 2: I need to go to the grocery store and cook
- 17:36Speaker 2: my own dinner and them in town. I need to
- 17:38Speaker 2: not text anyone for twenty four hours sometimes, Like there's
- 17:41Speaker 2: just like simple things that everyone needs. And just because
- 17:45Speaker 2: I have I live in the public eye, doesn't mean
- 17:48Speaker 2: I don't need it too, you know, And.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 17:51Speaker 2: I think also there's been times when fans have come
- 17:54Speaker 2: up to me when like one night, I was in
- 17:57Speaker 2: the airport and I was just having a classic mint
- 18:00Speaker 2: t be absolute breakdown, sitting on the floor, hat sunglasses on,
- 18:04Speaker 2: like crying, okay, and.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Sometimes you just gotta do that, okay.
- 18:07Speaker 2: And I'm in the airport and these fans come up
- 18:09Speaker 2: to me and they're like, are you Dasha, And I
- 18:12Speaker 2: literally look at them, I take off my sunglasses. I'm like,
- 18:14Speaker 2: I am and I love you, and I am in
- 18:17Speaker 2: no picure. I'm in no state to take a picture
- 18:18Speaker 2: right now. And I hope you understand that, and just
- 18:20Speaker 2: having that real connection like I am a person in
- 18:25Speaker 2: some fugly sweatpants right now, sobbing my eyes out and
- 18:28Speaker 2: I love you, but do not ask for a picture
- 18:31Speaker 2: right now.
- 18:32Speaker 3: And it's just like setting that boundary, I think is
- 18:33Speaker 3: really healthy.
- 18:34Speaker 2: So I've kind of learned that I'm a people pleaser,
- 18:38Speaker 2: recovering people pleaser, and we're trying to miss you.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Know, and listen. But like the boundary thing doesn't make
- 18:44Speaker 1: you bad, no, and the unfortunate thing is as much
- 18:48Speaker 1: as you can explain it, right. And there's some people
- 18:51Speaker 1: in your life that like give them an explanation so
- 18:54Speaker 1: they don't hate you. But like other people, it's like, dude, dude, dude,
- 18:58Speaker 1: what if I was going to the bathroom straight bathroom? Yeah,
- 19:02Speaker 1: because like I'm in a moment where I just need
- 19:04Speaker 1: me and don't be around you. I'll sign something. Let
- 19:07Speaker 1: me sign something.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Easy, exactly.
- 19:09Speaker 2: And I think, honestly, like having that rapport fans is
- 19:13Speaker 2: really important to me because the whole relationship of like
- 19:18Speaker 2: artists fan is so like I'm above you, and I
- 19:21Speaker 2: think it's so backwards and weird because at the end
- 19:24Speaker 2: of the day, like I'm not better than you just
- 19:26Speaker 2: because I make music and you know about it. It's
- 19:28Speaker 2: I don't like that dynamic at all, and I think
- 19:31Speaker 2: it makes it like needy and like frantic and scary
- 19:35Speaker 2: and like that's how you get chased down the street,
- 19:37Speaker 2: and that's how people show up to your house. But
- 19:39Speaker 2: if you just like are so human with him, it
- 19:42Speaker 2: kind of breaks that, like, oh you're a god. We're
- 19:45Speaker 2: just all humans together. So I've been trying to practicing
- 19:48Speaker 2: that when I can. But also I'm just a girl.
- 19:52Speaker 2: So we're trying our best.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Think you're doing great musically. In between now and the
- 19:59Speaker 1: rest of the year. I things are still burning red
- 20:01Speaker 1: hot for your wise and schedule wise. Where's some downtime
- 20:05Speaker 1: that you've intentionally placed in between now and the end
- 20:07Speaker 1: of the year.
- 20:08Speaker 2: I have some off time at Christmas.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Not till December.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Well, okay, that's not true. I'm going home for Thanksgiving.
- 20:15Speaker 2: And the last year I was in the Thanksgiving parade.
- 20:17Speaker 2: I don't know if you saw lips.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Should we talk about it?
- 20:21Speaker 1: No, let me tell you no, it was great. Don't
- 20:26Speaker 1: worry about it. Listen, regardless of them, just a girl.
- 20:29Speaker 1: First of all. First of all, that's on them, not.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Youatting rhythmsic over my face.
- 20:35Speaker 3: That was on me. Let's be real, and let's be
- 20:37Speaker 3: so real.
- 20:39Speaker 1: You're drowning. I'm trying to throw you a life preserver.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Just grab it and we'll move on. So will you
- 20:45Speaker 1: have downtime over Thanksgiving.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm gonna go home and I do you know
- 20:49Speaker 2: about blackout Wednesday? It's the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and then
- 20:53Speaker 2: that's all the high school homies pull up to that
- 20:55Speaker 2: local bar.
- 20:55Speaker 3: We go to Frog and Peach, okay, and it's the
- 20:58Speaker 3: most fun.
- 20:59Speaker 1: You just said you get high school kids drunk.
- 21:02Speaker 3: No high school homies. Oh, I mean, maybe depends.
- 21:07Speaker 1: I just want to see what tom I would say
- 21:08Speaker 1: about that.
- 21:10Speaker 2: But yeah, it's the best day of her So I
- 21:11Speaker 2: made sure I'm off because I want to go to
- 21:13Speaker 2: black I wouldn't.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Say as you should. That's it's funny because when you
- 21:15Speaker 1: work where we work, we do the same thing. Really,
- 21:19Speaker 1: but it's not it's not celebrating.
- 21:21Speaker 3: It's oh coping, it's coping. Yeah, yeah, I mean it's
- 21:25Speaker 3: a little bit of both.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Nobody will hear this part of the interview, so you
- 21:27Speaker 1: know we will clip it, clip it. Give me the
- 21:32Speaker 1: best tour story. You got best tour story because you
- 21:35Speaker 1: had mentioned Thomas rhtt. Obviously you've been on the road
- 21:37Speaker 1: and you have festivals. You're bumping into big names. So
- 21:40Speaker 1: give us, give us a cool This isn't like a
- 21:43Speaker 1: weird like. Give us a secret, but like, what's a
- 21:45Speaker 1: cool story that you're like, Man, this is something I'll
- 21:47Speaker 1: remember forever.
- 21:48Speaker 3: I have.
- 21:48Speaker 2: I have the perfect one, okay, so and I have
- 21:51Speaker 2: a picture to go along with it that can be
- 21:53Speaker 2: an asset later. So it was the last night of
- 21:57Speaker 2: my portion of the Veteran Boots tour with tr and Tucker.
- 22:00Speaker 2: We more and uh Tucker and I've gotten really close
- 22:04Speaker 2: because her stars kind of rose at the same time,
- 22:06Speaker 2: so we've just been everywhere at the same time, and
- 22:08Speaker 2: we just became really good friends this past like year
- 22:10Speaker 2: and a half. So we had the idea hanging out
- 22:14Speaker 2: like the previous weekend. I was like, we need to
- 22:16Speaker 2: do an end of tour prank on tr. It's my
- 22:20Speaker 2: last show next weekend. We gotta do something. And He's like,
- 22:22Speaker 2: I'm so in and I was like, oh my god,
- 22:24Speaker 2: I have an idea. So I would go up and
- 22:26Speaker 2: sing Heads Carolina with tr you know, and uh Tucker
- 22:29Speaker 2: would usually go up right after and do small Town Girls.
- 22:33Speaker 2: And so I was like, Tucker, what if we clip
- 22:37Speaker 2: in some of my extensions to your hair. Okay, put
- 22:39Speaker 2: it on a little ball cap, put on a little
- 22:42Speaker 2: tank top that I would wear, and you go out.
- 22:44Speaker 2: I'll be seeing inside stage and you go out for me,
- 22:47Speaker 2: and you walk out, and we're gonna go see TR's
- 22:50Speaker 2: face when you walk out in my fucking extensions and
- 22:53Speaker 2: start singing this song, okay, and then during the chorus, I'm.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Gonna walk out dressed as you.
- 22:58Speaker 2: I'm gonna get a little mustache on and all that thing,
- 23:01Speaker 2: maybe even drow some abs on. I'm gonna walk out,
- 23:04Speaker 2: and then we're both gonna be on stage with him,
- 23:05Speaker 2: dressed up as each other and sing this song together.
- 23:08Speaker 2: And he's like At first he was like hell yeah,
- 23:11Speaker 2: and then he was like, I don't know. Once the
- 23:12Speaker 2: extensions came out, he was like I don't know, man,
- 23:15Speaker 2: And then we tried them on in the bus.
- 23:16Speaker 3: And he was like feeling himself. So I'm like, it's happening. Okay.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Unfortunately that was a show that got lightning out, so
- 23:23Speaker 2: it never happened. I know, I know, but it could
- 23:28Speaker 2: still happen. And then I told tr about it and
- 23:30Speaker 2: he was so upset because that was so funny. But
- 23:32Speaker 2: the good news is I have a picture of Tucker
- 23:34Speaker 2: with my extensions in so.
- 23:38Speaker 1: You guys forever, yep, Hey, I appreciate you. Thanks for
- 23:41Speaker 1: taking time to hang, Thanks for having me
