- MARK HAYES (00:01.996) Alright ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another exciting edition of Two Men in Black and White and Honest Conversation. Wow. Texas, Texas, Texas. Only in Texas. I hate Texas. I'm just gonna be honest with you. I hate the cowboys. I hate the size of Texas. I hate everything it stands for. I've never been able to have success in Texas in my lifetime. on two stints in the Lone Star State. yeah, it's just really frustrating to look at the outcome of the election. The shenanigans started early. I believe I texted you early. I said, the fuckery has begun in Texas. Brock Adellas joins us live from the beautiful confines of the Upper Hudson River Valley, right outside New York City. Brock, James Tallarico. We got them, but what do we got? Who knows? On the blue side of the ledger, thanks for nothing. Brock, what say you? Brock Ganeles (01:09.803) So Mark, we've been having these conversations for over a year, right? Two men in black and white, an honest conversation. And I have to say, when you talk to a black person every day for a year, for somewhere between 30 minutes and an hour, you start recognizing and addressing things in society that you probably as a white person would have just waltz right past and not had a second thought about. You would have watched commentary and listened to it and not have it like ring a bell in your head. you would have looked at things like the Talarico versus Jasmine Crockett primary in Texas and probably not spent that much time of your mental focus on who won, kind of doing a little bit of a who cares, right? But once you start having the conversations and thinking about it and you've like had your eyes open to how a lot of shit works, then you can't unsee it. MARK HAYES (02:15.31) Sure. Brock Ganeles (02:28.393) And for at least the last couple of weeks, I've been like, I know I'm to be disappointed in Texas because I'm a Jasmine Crockett fan. Not because she's a black woman. Hopefully not despite the fact that she's a black woman because she's a talented politician who is taking the fight to Trump and had become a leader of the movement I feel I'm a part of the resistance movement against white supremacy and Trump and MAGA. And she was a star that movement and I didn't think that we could afford to lose her. And it's not like she's dead, but like she's lost the same platform that she had before. But as the, as I watched the whole primary between the shenanigans of the Tal Reiko, you know, MARK HAYES (03:02.144) Mm-hmm. Brock Ganeles (03:15.625) I won't go that far with it. The fact that Tellurico would not address the blatant racism that worked its way into the election process. And he decided to step aside. He un-John McCain'd, right? He didn't grab the microphone and say, no, no, no, that's not how we're going to run this campaign. He was tacitly, quietly happy to have Crockett be undermined by all kinds of racist trolls. And And then the blatant voter suppression, which was just like a, you know, like a dress rehearsal for what's going to go on in November, right? The MAGA is just lobbying out there all the bullshit that they're going to throw at minorities so that they can't get out and vote. So I woke up disappointed today and I think it was a bad day for the left. MARK HAYES (04:03.096) Yep. Yep. MARK HAYES (04:09.058) Yeah, I would agree. Brock, see if you can follow me in this logic. You know, people looked at us crazy when we thought that OJ Simpson had been set up by the police. People wondered why black folks were rioting. when the officers in the Rodney King case got off. Brock Ganeles (04:38.497) It's anniversary today, right? MARK HAYES (04:39.886) Yes, indeed. People look at African Americans and say, what are you so upset about? Black folks are not surprised today. This has been happening to us all our lives. Here comes this unproven commodity. A guy with state legislature experience who happens to be a good looking dude. I don't know. I mean, maybe he's telegenic. I don't know. I'm just trying to come up with some qualities that make this guy, you know, ultra religious. Brock Ganeles (05:07.071) Easy. Okay. Brock Ganeles (05:14.569) Okay. Ultra religious. He's, he's, he's hitting you with Bible scripture more to me, more than being telegenic. He's given, he's feeding you all that. The good book all day that MARK HAYES (05:28.107) All day. But the good book didn't cause him to John McCain this situation and grab the microphone and say, no, no. Jasmine Crockett is a fine human being. We just have some differences of opinion on how we should govern from the left. Right? He didn't do that. But black folks are not surprised. Black folks were not surprised when some super PAC came in with $4 million. and thrust it into his campaign to help him get over the hump. Black folks were not surprised that they put the party, put him up against Jasmine Crockett and said, yeah, he could beat her. Someone who you have already identified as a person who we could coalesce behind and have coalesced behind, right? And was leading a reckoning in this country to bring us all together. Now, what do you think the guy from the religious right is going to offer? Number one, they did, you know, the goal was achieved and that was to silence Jasmine Crockett, right? She now doesn't have the capital needed, right? In these different committees that she was a part of. We no longer get access to her expertise as a former prosecutor, right? As a legal stalwart, a legal talent that was able to, let's just face it, make the right very uncomfortable. She didn't pull any punches with them. Do you think we're gonna get that same zeal from James Tallarico? I sure don't. Brock Ganeles (07:21.281) No, he's courting. He's courting MAGA. He's MAGA lite. He's basically raised his hand and said, I'm going to run a campaign that's MAGA lite or I'm going to project. I'm going to make them all feel comfortable and I'm going to try to win some Republicans. That was his pitch versus Jasmine's, I'm going to energize the base. It's like, I'm going to peel off. MARK HAYES (07:24.816) Absolutely. Brock Ganeles (07:43.262) some MAGAites and it's like that's not the movement I want to be a part of I'm not behind Jinx Tal Reiko I prefer him to fucking Ken Paxson right or fucking Cornyn right I don't want MAGA but I'm not behind him I don't give a shit I've already told you MARK HAYES (07:48.076) MARK HAYES (07:52.738) Thank you. Brock Ganeles (08:00.609) The fucking preaching to me doesn't do it. Separation of church and state. I don't care what your religion tells you to do any more than you should care what my religion tells me to do. How bad we just, that's why we have a constitution and theory, right? Cause we're getting the religion. We're supposedly getting the religion out of there. I don't see always going to energize. I don't see how black people are going to come out to vote for them. Fucking I wouldn't, I would not. And that's so to me, he's going to suppress the vote and he's going to try the, the, the black vote. And he's going to try to win by pulling over MAGA people, which means he has to play to the middle, which means it's a watered down party, which means it's status, a future of status quo. So MARK HAYES (08:45.806) That's fucking cool. Yeah. Brock Ganeles (08:47.879) I know his policies probably in theory don't say that, but who he is as a person, how he ran his campaign and who he's trying to court tells me all I need to know about where, how he would govern. So to me, it's a loss for the resistance. I mean, every time a progressive candidate doesn't win an election, it's a loss, but I didn't even really consider Jasmine Crockett a progressive candidate. She was just a fighter. MARK HAYES (09:07.288) Okay. MARK HAYES (09:15.234) I didn't either. Right? Right. Who fought for what was right, not necessarily what was black and white. She fought for the democracy. She was out here plugging away every day for the democracy. She didn't put up with their shit. She gave it as good as they tried to send it over to her. Brock Ganeles (09:18.849) You know? MARK HAYES (09:42.935) and push back. We're not gonna see that from Talarico. We're gonna see the set. We're right back to, we might as well have Chuck Schumer in there. This is the guy Chuck Schumer wanted, right? Somebody who's not gonna push back, right? Somebody who's not gonna make waves. This guy will sit in that seat forever. If he's able to beat Paxton and record it. Brock Ganeles (10:05.867) my God, if you can't beat, it can't beat those two guys. But you know, it's a very racist state. We couldn't, you know, I didn't really expect much more coming out of Texas. It was high, it was high turnout, even with the voter suppression, which is encouraging. If you're on the left. MARK HAYES (10:11.917) Yes. MARK HAYES (10:15.832) Sure. MARK HAYES (10:24.695) Right. Brock Ganeles (10:24.757) I I prefer Talarico over a pure MAGA candidate, but it's a disappointment. But there's no way you can't convince me that the powers that Ken Martin led, Democratic Party, didn't want a white candidate. I mean, they're like, hey, we lost with Colin Allred and now, you know, we can't win statewide. MARK HAYES (10:29.985) Right. Brock Ganeles (10:47.329) with a person of color. think that was the thinking of, you know, the party that's that money didn't come. wasn't a gift from the gods, right? It was, you know, a calculated decision to throw more money at the race. and and and by elevating the electability. Topic, which is self-fulfilling. MARK HAYES (11:00.024) physically. MARK HAYES (11:09.666) Mm-hmm. Brock Ganeles (11:10.517) you know, it just pushes white people to vote white. And in this case, Latino people to vote white, right? Cause the electability, cause they're convinced they're not the racist one, but it's the other person is racist. You can't trust that other person. So you end up voting like a racist because like you can't trust the other person won't be racist. And you know, it's just a loser's bet all along. And it just gets back to why there's so few black senators. MARK HAYES (11:16.13) Yep. Yep. MARK HAYES (11:21.472) At Earth, Right. MARK HAYES (11:36.078) Mm-hmm. Brock Ganeles (11:37.204) So because black candidates can't win statewide because there's no state that's, you know, that isn't majority white. And that's why I actually saw a poll and I don't believe the polls either, because I think people say one thing in the polls, but when it comes to voting. MARK HAYES (11:44.973) Mm-hmm. MARK HAYES (11:53.1) and did something else in the booth. Brock Ganeles (11:54.336) they do something else. Cause I saw a poll where it's Keisha Lansbottoms is running for governor of Georgia. I didn't even realize that. So there was a poll today where she's supposedly ahead. And as soon as I looked at it, was like, I don't believe it. Do not fucking believe it. MARK HAYES (12:01.33) yeah? MARK HAYES (12:09.441) Mm-hmm. Brock Ganeles (12:10.569) not in a state, right? That I don't believe people will vote what they just told that pollster, right? I'll believe it. I'll believe it when I see it. And we just don't see enough of it. And that's why we don't have enough diversity and we get watered down middle of the road, fucking politics. And, you know, I mean, it's better than Trump and MAGA, but it's, it's status quo, status quo America, right? MARK HAYES (12:15.831) Right. MARK HAYES (12:32.728) But it ain't going to save our democracy. And it ain't going to save our democracy. If we don't get somebody in there who wants to kick somebody's ass and who is willing to fight back and is willing to make the kind of sacrifices that Jasper Crockett had put on the front lines, someone who's going to go in there and say, Hey, absolutely not. is wrong. James Salarico doesn't realize the impact of what it is to be black in Texas. This Collin County, one of the richest counties in America where he's from, experiencing unprecedented growth right now. You know who owns a lot of Collin County? Your boy, Jerry Jones. Jerry Jones owns a shit ton of real estate in Collin County. That the housing, I lived just to the north of Collin County. Had I stayed there, I would not have been able to afford the property taxes in my home. Three to five years after I moved in, I would have had to move out. That's how fast the growth was happening. And that was 10 years ago, 12 years ago. Had I stayed, I would have been priced out of my home because of property taxes. James Tallarico don't know what the struggle is all about. You don't know what it's like to be black and t... Okay, there is no African, there is no diversity in leadership when it comes to Texas. Okay, the leadership there is lily white, even in Dallas County, where you have a large African American contingent, you can't win with black candidates. And then we saw all over the state yesterday, the fuck. Right? Black folks being told, you're in the wrong polling place. you're in the wrong polling place. Colin Allred and Jasmine Crockett have to file motions. The motions get filed, but yeah, we'll leave the polling places open, but all the votes that come in after seven o'clock, put those aside. We'll figure out what to do with those later, says the state Supreme Court. MARK HAYES (14:59.202) And who was the opposition in the courtroom? Ken Paxton. So we got the Fox watching the hen house, right? And you want me to believe it was a fair election? I mean, this has been going on in Texas forever and a day. Brock, what'd I tell you the other day? We got 4 million voting age African-Americans in the state of Texas, right? Did 2 million people all total? even show up to vote? I mean, it is ridiculous the voter suppression that's happening in this country. Look at Mississippi. You have what, zero, one or zero African-American representatives in Congress? I think it's zero. Brock Ganeles (15:49.929) Is it zero? Not even in like Jackson? I thought there was like the one district. MARK HAYES (15:54.02) It might be Jackson. That might be it. But you've got majority black counties all over Mississippi and you can't win. Georgia, same thing. We do a little bit better here. But Stacey Abrams is the perfect example of the candidate back in 2018. She had what? Over a million voters that the current governor. removed from the rolls as the Secretary of State who was also running for governor. And he still only won by 50,000 votes. Brock Ganeles (16:37.757) Same playbook. Same playbook. MARK HAYES (16:39.392) Yeah, same playbook everywhere. You think Tallerico is going to go in and fight for that playbook to be reversed? Why would he? He's benefited from it. And he doesn't realize it's a problem because it's never impacted him. And I'm sure, remember the most segregated day of the week? that happens to be a Sunday where all his ideology is rooted. I'm not quite sure how many African-American parishioners there are sitting next to him in a pew on Sundays in Texas in one of the richest counties in America. So miss me on Mr. Talarico being a fighter for what's right. What's right when you ask whom? Which part of the electorate is he fighting for? Because we've already established if you're in the middle, you're with MAGA. There is no middle ground when it comes to being a part of the resistance because the middle ground leads us toward that authoritarian state, toward that fascist regime and more of it that we have now. You think anybody's partying harder than the Republicans right now, especially the Republicans in Congress who had to deal with Jasmine on a regular basis? Huh. She was tearing their asses up on a regular basis. Yes. Exactly. Brock Ganeles (18:04.479) Yeah, those white racist Republicans, they're just happy to have one less black person in there, right? That they have to deal with, right? But it's me, Tal Reiko just gets me, gets us, in my mind, just gets us back to that Merrick Garland mentality of we have to play the middle and things have to be cordial when in reality, if and when, Democrats can never wrestle this country back from MAGA. Like then we're going to have to get out a sledgehammer and like basically break everything they created and put people in jail. Not Gen six, not like just the Yahoo's, the, the, the, convenient idiots that were thrown out there. I'm talking about like the actual masterminds behind it. The ones committing the real crimes, the ones that have really broken that democracy. and violated the Constitution. Not just the yahoos on the streets that they tricked into like being the front men for their war, right? Jan 6, none of the organizers. No organizer got touched. MARK HAYES (19:18.541) Right? Right? Who's, who? Brock, again, who's gonna have the stomach to prosecute Kristi Noem, Pete Hegseth, Cash Mattel, Todd Blanch? All these people. you know it. Well, point him. Brock Ganeles (19:39.01) Jack Smith, Jack Smith did have the fucking stomach to do it. If who's going to have the stomach to appoint someone who's going to do it, which arguably should be a mandate of the voters, you know, tell me who you're, you know, tell me who you're going to put in those seats before I tell you where I'm going to vote for you or not. But all right. The South disappoints again. We get, you know, racism. MARK HAYES (19:53.792) Right. Yep. Yeah, Yeah. Brock Ganeles (20:09.057) rears its ugly head as it does every day and then is, you know, clearly we get a big reminder of it on election days. MARK HAYES (20:16.845) Sure. Brock Ganeles (20:19.945) I think it was like bursting the bubble of the resistance movement of losing Jasmine Crockett and not letting her be able to ascend politically and in terms of her power and her voice. And we get it. Just another what religious Bible belt, middle of the road, white guy. Come on. Lose me with that fucking idea. Like that's, that's going to unify a resistance. Absolutely not. MARK HAYES (20:26.414) Mm-hmm. MARK HAYES (20:48.002) Yeah. Yeah. Brock Ganeles (20:50.101) big bad start to like primary season for an election that's gonna, you know, I don't see how it's not gonna be rigged at this point. I mean, you just saw how easy it was. Look how easy it was to fuck things up in Texas, to send people to the wrong place or to say they're at the wrong place. Individuals have no recourse. MARK HAYES (21:02.765) Yeah! MARK HAYES (21:12.31) None. Who do you tell? You know, if we wanted to snitch, who do we tell? Who do we go to? You you look around, you look right, you look left, everything's covered by, you know, MAGA and MAGA types or people fronting for MAGA. It's a joke. We are going into the shitter. We are going into the shitter. Now is as good a time as any to start thinking about Brock Ganeles (21:20.033) Who's? Yeah. MARK HAYES (21:42.299) moving abroad. Especially if you're black or brown. Because I don't see Tallarico, you know, laying down in front of the ICE vehicles, you know, as they're shipping people into their new facilities that they'll be purchasing in Texas. You know, plenty of room in Texas. You know, you can you can build wide, long, high, very flat out there. plenty of room for warehouses for human beings, right? We know that the prison industrial complex exists for a reason in the United States. We do it better than anyone and we're gonna continue to do it because there are no, when it comes to finding champions, especially in the Senate where the real power lies. We don't have the representation we need. Look at the minority leader. Chuckles his day is gone. He's so out of touch Get who's gonna legislate when it comes to AI brought they couldn't even legislate the WWW How are they gonna legislate when it comes to AI and they have no idea how it works? They have no idea and they're not they're not trying to figure it out You know chuckle chuckle. What's the difference between Chuckles and Grassley? I mean, there's no difference. Right? They're both sitting there on death's door. You know, basically speaking, you know, in terms of where we are in our democracy, Grassley is happy about it. Chuckles claims he isn't. But he continues to try to pull us to the center. Where all the shit goes wrong. This is how we got here by people on the left. MARK HAYES (23:44.28) pulling us back to the middle and basically negotiating with terrorists. Brock Ganeles (23:51.306) Yeah, the middle, the false middle, you know, it's really, it's really the right. It's always been, it's been sold to us as the middle, but it's not the true middle. It's, it's the status quo for a nation that's been built on white supremacy and, and a quote love of capitalism that really, as we talked about, has been toxic capitalism all along. MARK HAYES (23:53.984) Yeah. Right. MARK HAYES (24:00.516) Yep. MARK HAYES (24:08.248) Bye. MARK HAYES (24:11.694) See you. Brock Ganeles (24:19.541) But, know, I mean, we have so much money in our politics, right? It's almost impossible to root it out unless you unless you move to, you know, kind of the Bernie camp. No, I mean, yeah, there's such celebration also in North Carolina, because this guy, Roy Cooper, right, ex governor is going to run for senator. And I'm like, OK, I guess that's the best you can get in North Carolina. MARK HAYES (24:24.942) Right. MARK HAYES (24:29.762) Yep. Which is not allowed. MARK HAYES (24:42.007) Thank you. MARK HAYES (24:46.734) With Carolina, right. Brock Ganeles (24:47.669) But that's the absolute middle of the road candidate, the candidate who can make the right feel comfortable that nothing's really going to change with a guy like that around. MARK HAYES (24:58.314) Yep. You know, and again, North Carolina, you know, one of the I have, I have a lot of youth hockey experiences from the South. North Carolina was the worst. The worst, whether it was Raleigh over there in that rank in Kerry, North Carolina, where the hurricanes have a facility. didn't matter, we always had an issue. They always had an issue with the one black kid on the team. Whoever we were, it didn't matter who we were playing on the other side. They always had an issue with the one black kid on the team. That was, those were the weekends. If I had to miss a weekend, it could not be a weekend we were going to North Carolina because I knew there were gonna be problems and I knew I had to be there just in case to protect my kid. Brock Ganeles (25:54.594) many black people are in the Senate? Is it just also Brooks and Cory Booker? And Warren Axel's three. MARK HAYES (25:59.553) and more not and more not. Three, Yep, out of 100. Brock Ganeles (26:09.857) 3%. MARK HAYES (26:11.278) We're 13 % of the population. We're 49 % of the prison population, 3 % of the Senate. MARK HAYES (26:23.202) and you wonder why we're upset. White America, don't ask me while I'm upset. You know, before we get to our quick hit, well, let's just roll into our quick hit because I'm so goddamn frustrated. Idaho City, City Council, decided that they were gonna roll back the Juneteenth holiday, not institute it, bring back Columbus Day because the City Council President said, that no one had ever heard of Juneteenth until about five years ago, and that was for political purposes. That's how dumb. revisionist history sounds. That's how stupid it is. Got multiple seconds. Only one person on the city council stood up for it and said, both of these holidays are worth celebrating if you want to look at it that way. You know, we appreciate what Columbus did in his, you know, expedition and his celebration of, you know, we can celebrate his, you know, discovery. Brock Ganeles (27:27.969) Did Bo ride? MARK HAYES (27:30.732) He discovered something that was already here and a people that was already here, but let's give him credit anyway. know, right? White fragility is a real problem, Brock. You know, no one had heard of Juneteenth until five years ago. What the fuck are you talking about? Read a book. Read a book. It's always a mystery when white history comes under question. or is challenged. Right? He, he, what he doesn't understand there is that white people were still holding slaves until Juneteenth. Because they weren't gonna tell the slaves they were free. Why would they? They were getting free work, free labor. My God, if people really dug into what Juneteenth was, it would make you absolutely furious. absolutely furious to know that some of your ancestors were held over even after they were declared free. Even after freedom had had rang. It would make you absolutely furious. But we've never been able to make anybody understand why reparations. MARK HAYES (29:00.226) for black America should be offered. Can't figure out a way to pay for it. 13 % of the population, everybody else has been paid for their hardship. Everybody else has been paid for having a foot put up. The Japanese who were interned, they got paid. What, you mean to tell me we built this shit for free? And when we send you the bill, you stamp denied on it and send it back to us and tell us don't ask again or else might be trouble, trouble. And then you wonder why Black America walks around mad. And you wonder why Black America doesn't want to come outside and march. You wonder why Black America says, told you so. We've been knowing police been killing Black folks. We just started to believe it when we got more camp, but like we didn't believe it when we saw it with Rodney King. We thought in the immortal words of one of our high school classmates, well, he must've done something for them to beat him like that. Yeah, he was born with the wrong color skin. He didn't have a complexion for the connection. That's what Rodney King did wrong because he was allegedly speeding in a Hyundai. And back in the early 90s, you couldn't speed in a Hyundai with four people in it. Brock Ganeles (30:25.109) Din Yerande. 945. MARK HAYES (30:26.638) No sir. So yeah, so this is a huge step in the wrong direction for race in America. And I believe if I could quote your text, what did your text say to me earlier today? America needs a reckoning on race right now? Today? Brock Ganeles (30:48.351) Yeah. And a black and white conversation. Cause one of the best things as I said at the top, say, first of all, having these conversations, you think start to think differently because you're hearing different things. But also the, you always saw that story, how easy it is to, for parents to get their kids comfortable with black America by just watching a few TV shows. MARK HAYES (30:51.405) Yes, sir. MARK HAYES (31:13.358) Mm-hmm. Brock Ganeles (31:14.015) The easier thing to do because we live in our phones, cause I realized it happened to me is if you just start following like Jamel Hill, Angela Rye, Don Lemon, Roland Martin, okay, follow those four and then all of sudden your feed changes because now the algorithm sees that you're actually following and watching a couple shows that are different. So it starts feeding you other things like that. And then just through that, you start watching and listening to different voices and you get a different perspective on the world because you're not just getting yourself in essence thrown back at you, right? Your feed shouldn't be a mirror. MARK HAYES (31:37.486) And go. Brock Ganeles (31:59.606) You shouldn't write shouldn't just look at yourself and scroll through and reinforce everything that you thought like actually dive in and get all kinds of actually I could give you like 10 others Jay Reed and I just I just Discovered this woman of Reneisha Risha Risha something Yeah, Rishi Culver. my god. She's fire. Jesus Christ MARK HAYES (32:02.958) You know? MARK HAYES (32:12.957) Mm-hmm. MARK HAYES (32:18.914) We see Colbert? We see Colbert? Brock Ganeles (32:25.343) My wife thinks I dropped the F-bomb too much. She leads the internet in it. I love it. MARK HAYES (32:25.45) yeah. Number one, she's ranked number one in F Pumps. Brock Ganeles (32:36.245) Meanwhile, and Jasmine Crockett to it. She's too confrontational. I was watching C-SPAN last night and they had all these call ins of people saying who they voted for and why. And you could just hear all the code words, right? she's too confrontational. We need someone who could reach across the aisle and be less combative. And we don't need that in our politics, blah, blah, blah. But anyway, you got to change. If you just change your feed a little bit, it changes your perspective. MARK HAYES (32:48.334) Yes! Brock Ganeles (33:05.512) A LOT. MARK HAYES (33:06.488) Yes, yes. And Brock, it doesn't endanger you to give an honest listen to the other side. It doesn't make you less white. It doesn't punish you for being white. It doesn't blame you for being, you know, black America is just, all we want you to do is listen. Right? We don't want you, we want you to do what's fair. But all we want you to do is listen. can't get folks to listen and listen to understand, not listen to respond, but listen to understand. When I was born, Brock, my parents were just getting voting rights. The Voting Rights Acts of 1964. I was born in 1965. We're not that far away. from separate lunch counters, from separate water fountains. My father, when he was in college, Brock, had to go around the back when his baseball team would travel through the South to get food. I keep telling you these stories. We couldn't go to predominantly white institutions when my dad was applying for colleges. Wasn't happening in the 50s, in the early 50s, mid to late 50s. Brock Ganeles (34:05.537) Mark, what did we? Yeah. Brock Ganeles (34:22.155) my point Brock Ganeles (34:34.379) crusade I'm gonna go on, welcome to join me on it, is I'm gonna go on like a massive crusade against the word electability because that is a weight-washed word for say what you really mean. that you think because electability is only used for people of color. MARK HAYES (34:43.95) Mm-hmm. MARK HAYES (34:47.522) Yes. MARK HAYES (34:55.723) And it is. Yeah. Brock Ganeles (34:58.131) and maybe female candidates. And if you combine the two, then it's, you know, you got yourself the double whammy, right? So political pundits like C-SPAN announcers who are on there in their middle of the road show that they're trying to do, right? They all happened to be white last night. Shocker. And MARK HAYES (35:02.295) It is rad. MARK HAYES (35:15.48) Surprise. Surprise. Brock Ganeles (35:17.685) They keep using the term electability. Don't use electability. Say what you really mean. Say that the electorate is too racist. You think the electorate is too racist to vote for a certain candidate. Don't flip it on the candidate and say the candidate isn't electable. Say the electorate. The voters are too racist. That's what is making you think that that candidate is unelectable. MARK HAYES (35:22.222) All right. MARK HAYES (35:29.752) Sure. MARK HAYES (35:44.888) Sure. Brock Ganeles (35:45.298) Say the word! They're either too racist or they're too sexist, too xenophobic, too homophobic. Whenever electability comes into play, let's think as we're talking about the people that vote, not the candidate. MARK HAYES (35:52.248) Hello. MARK HAYES (36:03.426) Right. Yep. Brock Ganeles (36:05.799) and say it, say it out loud. Don't bury it under a political word like electability as if we're in a social science project. No, we're talking about society. MARK HAYES (36:15.438) Well... Well, Brock, are we gonna hurt white people's feelings because that's what the media, the media is charged with not upsetting white America. And now that we understand the media, who helped us understand what electability is, right? This is what the media has done, the assault on black and brown people through the media and its representations. of the black and brown experience in America. Brock, let's go back to the beginning. And matter of fact, let's skip up to the 70s. Chico and the man. George Jefferson, Fred Sanford. That's how we were introduced to the black and brown experience, the junk man. The taxi driver, taxi driving Hispanic. who spoke Spanish when he got upset, right? George Jefferson, the guy who got him a business and then was able to move on up on the East side to a deluxe apartment in the sky, right? But we were introduced to the Cleavers, the Partridge family, the Brady Bunch. Brady Bunch was divorced. That was a blended family. Making good money, Carol stayed home. The Partridge family. Brock Ganeles (37:37.185) But he was an architect. He was an architect making good money. MARK HAYES (37:46.433) Right? All these positive influences from white families, right? The white family was just everything we loved about America. Hey, hey, hey, look at the Fonz, you know, even the guy that was rough around the edges was super neat, super, super quaffed, right? And didn't get in trouble with the law. Brock Ganeles (37:59.212) Happy days. Brock Ganeles (38:09.397) Was a good guy. Good guy at heart. Yeah, I hear you. MARK HAYES (38:17.398) Again, the guy who rode the motorcycle, right? Rough around the edges, right? Bringing people together, the Fonzarelli, Arthur Fonzarelli. Brock Ganeles (38:26.635) What we can... Mark, they stumbled the one of the commentators stumbled into last night by saying, well, Talarico has really done good with the white vote and know, Jasmine Crockett's really done with the black vote. And then she said like, you know, so we're, yeah, we're really seeing, you know, some, a lot of identity politics here. And I was like, Ooh, so you just lumped in white people voting for the white candidate's identity politics. Cause that used to only be used when people of color voted for a person of color. now we're actually, MARK HAYES (38:43.458) We are. MARK HAYES (38:53.582) Yeah? Yeah? Brock Ganeles (38:58.091) have some recognition that the white voters are voting for the white person for no other reason than they're seeing the white person. And it's probably someone in her ear was probably like, never say that again. Right. Like she, but it was like a mistake, but you know that she came to that conclusion. but I, know, but you know, electability, I'm on a crusade against electability. Don't want to hear it ever again. Let's talk about the voters. MARK HAYES (39:10.382) K68. Right. MARK HAYES (39:16.246) Just blurt it, just blurt it. Brock Ganeles (39:28.189) We're getting an interesting note in the chat that we didn't bring up earlier, which is, you know, almost like salt on the wounds, right? A, everyone's talking about how gracious Jasmine Crockett was today with her acceptance letter, right, that she posted in social media, but already immediately how she needs to be on the team to rally that black vote because Telerico can't win unless there's good black voter turnout. MARK HAYES (39:41.289) Uh-huh. MARK HAYES (39:49.163) Heheheheh! Brock Ganeles (39:54.742) Why? Because Texas is such a racist state. So, Telerico is allowed to wink, wink to the white people about the black woman and keep quiet while his posse is out being racist. But now after he wins, the black woman has to... MARK HAYES (39:54.93) well. Brock Ganeles (40:14.453) come on board with him as if nothing happened. like, just as a human being, you don't look at that and just be like, that's pretty fucked up. I wouldn't be able to do that. I wouldn't be that gracious. There's no fucking... MARK HAYES (40:15.01) Get on board. Be a team player. MARK HAYES (40:30.67) But we're surprised the Kamala won't do it. We're surprised the Kamala's not out here stumpin'. You how many death threats Kamala got in the 90 days run up to the election? The 100 days she got to run for president? Brock Ganeles (40:42.081) Yeah, and oh, really? Did everyone really rally around her? No, Clooney and fucking Carville and a bunch of other yahoos wanted to have like an open primary where, you know, cabal of Bill Clinton and, you know, a bunch of others was going to decide who the candidate was because, oh, you know, Biden doesn't get to pick the black candidate. Yeah, I mean, it's so fucked up. It's got me fucking. MARK HAYES (40:46.818) No. MARK HAYES (41:08.428) Yeah, it's maddening. Now you understand why Black folks throw a fist up in the air. again, we need to have more of these conversations. We can't have enough of these conversations, like at this point. Brock Ganeles (41:31.744) Mark, you know I even wonder why black people even live in the South. I mean, I get it. Maybe it's because you grew up there. Maybe your family there. Maybe because it's your land. because it's the only... It was the first place your ancestors were brought so you stayed there. But... All of America is racist, but... I just... I mean, to live in a red state in the South... MARK HAYES (41:35.377) yeah! yeah! Brock Ganeles (41:56.47) that's just gonna go out of their way to fuck you all the time is... I mean... I don't think... You know, I grew up in the Northeast, so it's easier to stay where you grew up, right? MARK HAYES (41:56.78) Makes no sense. MARK HAYES (42:04.91) It's scary, MARK HAYES (42:09.528) Yeah. Brock Ganeles (42:12.341) But damn, you know, you're always getting voter suppressed. You don't get voter suppression in New York, right? You just don't. MARK HAYES (42:19.318) No, no. You know, I had a good friend here who was a good white Italian family. He moved to the South because he wanted more diversity to raise his children. Yeah, they left a couple of years ago and moved to Colorado. They said, screw this shit. I'm not retiring in a red state. I can't take it. I can't take it. And you know, that was a white family who saw it and recognized it. We were here for the cost of living, but now even that is a joke. So, you know, it's very different. And now I'm like actually considering becoming a digital nomad. I mean, you know, it's awful nice to go into a store and not be looked at twice, you know, and not have people follow you around just because it's a nice. establishment. You know, it, it's all it's awful. Nice to be comfortable. You realize how difficult it is to be comfortable as a black person. You know how my heart races when I see blue lights in the mirror in the rear view. It's scary. It is scary. And it's sad that it's come to that. It is sad that it has come to that. Brock Ganeles (43:53.995) come to that I feel like it's always it's probably always been that. MARK HAYES (43:55.873) It's always been that way. But you know, we thought we'd get better during our growth. Brock Ganeles (44:00.076) What? Our lifetimes. Yeah, We hope that we're not dead yet. Someone else jumped in the chat talking about the Southern states and numerical advantage. I don't know if there's is there any state where there's truly a numerical advantage? Is there a Southern state? MARK HAYES (44:13.933) Texas is blue. Texas is demographically blue according to the numbers and the report. Georgia, demographically blue. Brock Ganeles (44:22.741) Well, more Democrats voted than Republicans last night. But yeah, the voter suppression is everywhere because the levers of power still control who, you know, how things run, right? And that's, I mean, that's why voter suppression is increased, right? Because the numbers are becoming closer to equal. MARK HAYES (44:37.538) Hello. MARK HAYES (44:41.378) Well, well, Brock, think about it. Who lives in the Midwest? Who lives in Idaho? Wyoming has what, 2.5 million people? Nobody lives there in those red states. It's the same thing when you go to Texas in those rural counties. Who lives there? Nobody. Right? In Georgia, when you leave Metro Atlanta, who lives there? know, Marjorie Taylor Greene's district. Brock Ganeles (44:47.521) Nah, it's mostly white. MARK HAYES (45:08.49) If she wins, she wins with 15,000 votes. Nobody lives up there. Right? So, you know, when you get away from these city centers, there's no, no, you know, ridiculous population boom. You know, remember the issues around the 2020 election that Trump claimed was stolen from him. You know, all the issues were in those little tiny counties, right? Where they thought they could get away with some shit. People wait a minute kind of numbers you got coming out of here out of this little tiny rink eating County where nobody lives It's all farmland down here people you know, come on, miss me with that bullshit. You know, they keep on talking to us, you know, and pissing on us and telling us it's raining and they talk to us as if we're stupid, as if we don't know what's going on. That's the problem here. And, you know, the Republicans are just better at it, right? Because they're more diabolical, they're more evil, they don't care whether or not they get caught because, well, They don't care if they get caught because if they get caught, there are no consequences and repercussions. We've already proven that you can be a pedophile on the Republican side and get away with it. Our president does it, has done it, and he continues to do it and has yet to be held accountable for his crimes against humanity and against children. MARK HAYES (46:50.562) I'm off my soapbox. MARK HAYES (46:56.526) It's frustrating, bro. It really is. Brock Ganeles (46:58.409) All right. Quick hit. I'm going to shift. We're going to show totally shift gears on us. So you, Roland Morton had a good verb today. Speaking of watching something you never would have watched before about black people and economic, you know, thinking now about economics, economic power. MARK HAYES (47:02.979) Do it. MARK HAYES (47:10.562) Okay. Brock Ganeles (47:19.009) So I'm shifting gears off politics for a second here to wrap this show up. Do you realize the WNBA is still in negotiations and does not have a contract for their upcoming basketball season after four, three, four months? And... MARK HAYES (47:33.464) Gay, Black, Women. Good luck trying to sell it. Brock Ganeles (47:40.414) except that it is the fastest growing, fastest growing sports league in the country right now. MARK HAYES (47:46.946) right now. MARK HAYES (47:50.456) Can't get a deal. Brock Ganeles (47:50.946) the highest percentage growth of the value of the teams in the league. Now operationally we know like you don't always make money when you're in growth mode operationally but the underlying value of the entity that you own is going up and you get your big payoff when you sell the franchise. So owners ownership MARK HAYES (48:11.064) Right. MARK HAYES (48:14.552) They're waiting. Brock Ganeles (48:14.687) you know, you know, miss me with your complaints that you're losing a few dollars, million dollars here or there operationally because the value of what your own is going through the roof. Every city wants a WNBA team. mean, just the value of the league is going, is going crazy, but they're a couple of weeks away and they still don't have a signed contract and it just goes back to economic power and it's another place in society where we MARK HAYES (48:26.51) Okay. MARK HAYES (48:37.206) Thank you. Brock Ganeles (48:44.621) as a society should be rooting for and supporting the players, the labor, and not fucking, we see NBA franchises, they're all multi-billionaires. MARK HAYES (48:58.326) Billions, Brock Ganeles (49:00.391) So, and we know the same and the WNBA is on that trajectory. So all those owners are going to be, we're to have a huge return on this investment. We should be rooting for the players and the labor that they get to make their money for building the value for the owners. So I'm, you know. MARK HAYES (49:10.606) Mm-hmm. MARK HAYES (49:19.17) Yep. MARK HAYES (49:25.537) It's sad. Brock Ganeles (49:25.779) I'm just, it's just such a microcosm of American capitalism, of our society, WNBA. It's another place, like Jasmine Crockett, another place where women and women of color are, you know, in essence getting played by. MARK HAYES (49:29.046) of society. Epstein class wins again. Brock Ganeles (49:42.761) mainstream and getting no support from the media. And, you know, once again, almost like being depicted, like they're being greedy when we all are watching them build this phenomenally valuable league for the owners who will get the ultimate payoff for the success. MARK HAYES (49:51.15) Right. MARK HAYES (49:58.273) Right. MARK HAYES (50:02.892) Right. And don't tell me it's not watchable, right? Because it's had the highest ratings of any of these leaks. Brock Ganeles (50:10.625) I mean, the numbers speak for itself. The viewership's huge. MARK HAYES (50:13.484) I'm a still alive. Men lie, women lie, the numbers don't lie. Brock Ganeles (50:20.235) don't lie. So I'm on board with the NW NBA players always have been but I want them to break the NBA and sign a huge huge deal for themselves because they deserve it. No other no other reason than because they deserve it. MARK HAYES (50:32.172) No doubt. No doubt. Yep. MARK HAYES (50:38.398) Absolutely. All right, my friend, that's going to wrap it up. Hey, stay Colin Kaepernick around here. We got the seven. Got the fist in the air. Stay loud. Stay proud. Stay woke. Stay motivated. Brock Ganeles (50:49.153) I him back in the fight. I want him back in the fight. All right, Mark, always a pleasure. one today, talk to you tomorrow. MARK HAYES (50:55.896) We'll talk to you soon, Yes, sir. Sounds good. Peace.
